I updated my android last night and I hate literally everything they changed. I'm seriously upset that they removed the option to hide the fuck-ugly annoying camera notch. why the fuck would you do that. it's one small option that makes a huge difference in customizability. why is there an update anyway if they're not improving anything, it's just design changes and they suck. fuck I'm angry

"It's not happening," Danielle stated firmly. "I am not going to ignore the fact that you want me to have no say in this, as well as the obvious reason why?" Bernadette folded her arms. "Really, Miss 'no degree' thinks she has uncovered the imaginary issue does she?"
"You have Aunt Lourda bullied into selling her share, so without me, it becomes two against one, since Uncle Michael refuses to sell, meaning with me on Uncle Michael's side, you are trapped, two on two and because you are one person badgering her to sell, and myself and Michael will badger Lourda to keep it, which we know she actually does want, you will lose." Bernadette's face fell. "Seriously, if you had brains you'd almost be dangerous with your conniving, but you actually are so blatant with your ideas that it is actually embarrassing."
To her right, her uncle chuckled. "She has you, Bernie."
Bernadette's face contorted angrily. "Matthew should not have given you everything, you are too spoiled." "Dad didn't give me everything, he gave a lot to others too, just not to you because you hated one another, he had no time for you and your notions. I know you are the one that took my Mam's statues, by the way." Danielle commented. "The galling thing is, I don't actually care, I hate statues, but you having the brass neck to come into my home and take them, that was a total piss-take." "What?" Michael asked in shock, "I thought…" "I gave them to her, no, I didn't, I would have, you are the only one who actually likes those things before, for that, I actually want them back." "What'll you do with them, your mother would want them looked after." "Yeah, she would, not thieved though. Sure, look sell them to get whatever bill you are trying to get paid, paid. That's my bargain." Danielle bit her lip, it wouldn't do to call her aunt a 'mewling quim'.
"I am not in debt, how dare you, I would never…" "If you use a credit card, you are in debt." Danielle pointed out, "You opened your purse in front of us, you have three, ergo, you are in debt, but for whatever reason you want to sell the house, I am not budging. Go to the Credit Union like the rest of us."
Bernadette stormed out of the room, calling Danielle a litany of names as she went. "You've pissed her off good now," Michael commented as he put his tea in the sink.
"I don't care, Nan said specifically she did not want this house sold," Danielle stated, Michael nodded in agreement, he had been in the room when she said it. "Dad told me not to let it, and Nan told you all not to let it be sold, so as long as I am a Hughes, I will not let it." "Is the day ever going to come that we'll get to see you not be one?" "Jesus, don't you start." Danielle scoffed, seeing her uncle stick his tongue in his teeth to show her he was joking. "I am so far away from that right now." "Really, I heard Siobhan tell Deirdre you had someone in England." Danielle froze for a second, "Really?" "Yeah, some British lad, about your go, is that right?" "I don't...I did have someone, I don't anymore." "Odd, Síobhan said you seem to be smitten with him." "Síobhan's talking out her arse." Michael laughed. "You are your father's daughter, Danielle." She got to the hallway when she bumped into someone else. "Hey." "Hi." Laura gave a small smile, "I didn't see you there." "No, you're grand, have you seen Síobhan?" "No, she and Deirdre went into Galway I think." "Shit, alright, thanks, you look well by the way." "Thanks, you look good too."
The pair stood awkwardly for a moment before Danielle moved on. She walked outside and looked around. Danielle always loved her nan's, truthfully, if she could, she would buy it off her aunts and uncle and live there. The ocean was to the right, and fields of grass and cattle to the left and all around was just drips of houses every few fields and nothing else, she loved it. She bit her lips together, she was hoping that she would get to show it to Tom on their little getaway, stay a night there before moving down the country to see more people, now she would just take a few photo's, maybe if one was good enough, get it framed. Thinking of Siobhan telling Deirdre about Tom worried her slightly, but since her uncle had not mentioned a name or anything, she knew she mustn't have said too much. Thinking of Tom, she decided to see how Milan was going.
Danielle - Hey, dunno when or even if you'll get this, but how did Mac get on going to the kennels? Do you have a rug now?
Tom - Hey, I thought I sent you a message the day I left, but looking there, I never pressed send (Shame on me) he was good, seemed a little abashed we both left him, but as soon as he saw their dog, he was as happy as Larry. I also brought him to a groomer, they took out a lot of it out and recommended a brush, 'the Furminator' I like it!
Danielle - Good, though did you ever wonder who Larry was, and why the hell he is so happy? Thank you, I will pay you back for that.
Tom - I did actually :) How is Ireland?
Danielle - Complicated. How is Milan?
Tom - Good actually, the fashion show was fairly boring, but the after-party was good. I got to meet some people, exchange some numbers that may be handy.
Danielle - Good stuff, I just said I would ask how he got on, talk to you another time.
Tom - Sure, okay. Sorry, the letter didn't come when I was home.
Danielle - I'll just have to wait. Bye, Tom.
Tom - Bye Elle. X
Tom - Sorry, that was predictive text, I didn't mean to put the 'x' in.
Danielle looked at the phone, she hadn't even noticed the x if she was honest, but him putting that in stung slightly. She inhaled deeply and reminded herself that she told him she wanted to back away from everything, he was, as she knew he would be, respecting that and not trying to pressure her into anything. She had chosen this, and if something hurt, she had to remind herself that it was the result of her actions. She wondered if Tom met a nice girl there, one better suited to him. Biting her lips together, she repeated once more what she had said, if he did, there was nothing wrong with it, she had told him she was done, it still hurt though.
* Tom looked at the messages from Danielle as he stood waiting for a photoshoot to begin, she seemed more talkative, which was good surely, but she seemed to not be enjoying her trip home. He wished she would tell him, from what a text from Emma revealed, she was having a real issue with her aunt, one that was causing her more stress than was fair, but she did not tell him what it was.
As though by fate, he heard his phone go off as soon as he had put it back in his pocket, curious, he looked at it.
Danielle - just saw a picture of you at the after show, I don't know why, but that combo really works for you, loved it. :)
Tom smiled with almost childishly at that.
Tom - Really?
Danielle - Definitely, better than those grey boots by a long shot. ;)
Tom laughed. At that.
Tom - Were you Googling me?
Danielle - I may have.
Tom - I am honoured.
He had to go and do the photoshoot, so he placed his phone with the rest of his belongings and went to work.
Much to his disappointment, when he returned to it after, Danielle had not continued their conversation. Putting his phone in his pocket, he went back to his hotel.

* Danielle walked down the path of the garden, her face almost cold. Siobhan did not see her until the last moment when she turned around, she was startled to see Danielle in her face. "Hi." "Hey, Danielle." Deirdre half smiled, half looked worriedly at her older cousin.
"Hi, Deirdre, could you excuse us a minute?" Danielle smiled, though it was not a friendly one at her.
"Sure…" Deirdre brought her shopping to the house.
"What's…?" Síobhan asked worriedly.
"Did you tell her about Tom?" Síobhan didn't say anything. "Did you tell Deirdre about Tom?" She repeated.
"I told her you have a boyfriend in London, nothing else, I swear." Danielle calmed immediately. "It came out when we were talking about Laura and Evan and if they get married and then I mentioned that you could be first?" "We are broken up." She reminded her cousin.
"You are not properly though, I mean, as soon as you and 'Rear of the Year' are back around each other, you are going to forgive him, I have seen you on the phone to him, you got all sweet and happy." Síobhan pointed out.
"Talking to him is not enough to forgive him." Danielle pointed out.
"You know, and I say this with love, you are a top-notch bitch at the best of times, so I am guessing you let out some comments yourself that make you as culpable." "I…" Danielle couldn't argue that, she knew she had been nasty back to Tom, he wasn't a fame whore, but she had dug in the knife on that one. "Yes, I did." "So kiss and make up, and in the future, introduce me to Chris Hemsworth."
Danielle's brows rose, "He's married." "Yeah, I know, but that doesn't mean I cannot look on, drooling." "Never met him." "Cumberbatch?" "Him, yes." "Is he as sexy in real life?" "I don't see the appeal personally, but he is actually really lovely; him and Sophie both are." "It's so cool you know famous people." "You saw I worked on Game of Thrones too." "Yeah, but you won't say anything about it." "I can't."
"Meanie." Síobhan got her shopping from the car. "I wouldn't tell her everything you know, I mean, I know we know each other better than you and me, because of the age difference and everything, but you told me that as leverage for the other thing, and you said nothing about me telling you." "I didn't do it because of that, I did it because I wanted to show you that I trust you too." Danielle pointed out. "I spent so much time being scared that it would get out, I told no one about it." she frowned. "I guess…" "What?" "Tom said I acted as though I was ashamed of him, I guess he's right, I never told anyone anything about us, I never made him feel like he actually mattered enough to tell anyone. I wasn't, but not telling any of you, I made it seem like I was."
Síobhan stood staring at Danielle; the girl she had seen stand stone-faced at both of her parent's funerals, who never once complained or groused at looking after both of them when they were ill, who never once said anything bad about having to quit college to do so, crying as she spoke aloud her realisation as to her wrongdoing in her relationship.

This Time Around 7
Tumblr media
A strange woman Bucky is sure he knows but can’t fully recognize, picks him up after the fall of SHIELD. She claims to be friends with Steve and that she is here to help him. He can’t help but keep wondering where he knows her from; it’s definitely not through Steve Rogers. Can she help him be the man he wants to be or will the all too familiar struggles of being a super human overcome him?
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X OC Rowan O’Connor Word Count: 4,344 Rating: M Masterlist Chapter 6 Chapter 8 Taglist: @xmarveled @spidey-the-killer-queen
Rowan quickly typed out a short message to let Bucky know what was happening and her estimated arrival back to Nagano. She had left him a little over two weeks ago, against her better judgement. He seemed to be doing alright; lightly teasing her about neglecting him and not bringing him along to play with the bad guys. He didn’t have a sparring partner since she’d split a couple days after they’d landed.
“Who ya talking to with that smile on your face?” Sam leaned over the space between his co-pilot seat and Rowan’s own seat in the quinjet. They were headed back to the compound from Hotel Mahayid.
“None of your business, Mr. Murtough.” Rowan teased Sam with his undercover name he’d used to sign up with the Hotel to gain entry. The team decided to send Sam in undercover for a recon mission. He was practically unknown in this area of the world. Steve and Natasha were too well known around the bad-guy neighborhoods at the moment, and Rowan was too close to Rumlow if he was up and moving around in the Hotel.
“Awe come on Rowan, we’ve been on a mission together. We’re practically besties now.”
“No.”
“Please?”
“Those big brown eyes aren’t going to help. I’ve had a lot of time to practice ignoring the puppy-dog look. Just ask Tony.” Sam huffed and crossed his arms over his chest playfully.
“Not even a little hint. I did get some good info for you guys this week. What about his initials?”
“How do you know it’s a ‘him’? It could be a woman.”
“You don’t strike me as a double agent, O’Connor.”
“Never know Sammy boy.” The two pilots laughed light-heartedly as the quinjet raced across the vast expanse of ocean. Rowan excused herself from the cockpit after she put the jet on autopilot to the Compound. Sam nodded as he leaned back and put his hands behind his neck.
“I’ll just be here, listening to sad music, feeling sorry for myself that you don’t wanna spend time with the coolest Avenger.” Rowan didn’t stop heading for the pullout cot towards the rear of the jet as she responded in a light tone,
“Oh come on Sam, we all know Thor’s the coolest.” Sam only laughed in response before the music turned up a few notches and Rowan shed her quarter zip jumper and boots before settling into the surprisingly comfortable cot. They still had around five hours of flight time before they hit New York.
She opened her encrypted phone and went through her messages once more, re-reading the messages Bucky had sent to her. She didn’t have time to read them earlier, and had sent Bucky a quick update letting him know she’d get back to them and respond post haste when she could get away from the Avengers prying eyes and ears. He’d sent a jumbled text about how he met some people in the small suburb of Nagano, and quickly learned he spoke fluent Japanese.
Rowan hadn’t been surprised, but Bucky was startled to say the least when an old woman had asked him where his wife was and he’d not only understood her, but had answered back without thinking in a flawless dialect. Rowan laughed to herself before asking Bucky what he’d told the woman about his wife being gone, since their cover was that they were spending their honeymoon in Nagano.
Told her you had to rush back to work. She offered to introduce me to her youngest daughter. Apparently she wouldn’t leave me for a job. – B
Being a fancy LA lawyer is very demanding. How else would I be able to leave you in Japan for two weeks until I can rejoin you? – R
Speaking of… How did everything go? – B
It went. We land in less than five hours. I plan to be headed back to you in less than six. I told the team I’ve gotta help a friend in Rwanda. – R
You and your friends. – B
Rowan smirked and put her phone in her pocket. She would update Bucky in person about the mission with Sam. Being apart from Bucky and only communicating through text was kind of nice, Rowan had to admit. It helped the awkward tension ebb away a little quicker. Bucky was opening up, she dared say.
He hadn’t had any more memory breaks, but he was talking with her about all the TV shows and movies he had been binging while Rowan was gone. She figured it was easier for Bucky to type stuff out than make eye contact, which was how she was handling getting along with him.
Sometimes she felt like she could be interacting with him better, but had to keep reminding herself that she took years to get back to herself, or at least as close to herself as she thought she was. Bucky at least had someone he could go back to in a sense. He would never be the old Bucky from the forties but those memories he’d regain would help shape the new Bucky.

After a quick debriefing at the Avengers Compound, Rowan said goodbye to everyone and tried to make her way as inconspicuously as possible to the hangar to board one of Tony’s private jets that’d take her back to Nagano Airport. She heard Steve jogging up the hallway and tried not to tense up.
“Rowan! Hey Rowan, wait up.” Rowan closed her eyes and sighed before turning around to face Steve. He was dressed similarly to her—Avengers logo’d long sleeve tee and well fitted joggers with black Brooks. Both of their respective uniforms were dirty enough to warrant a hasty change before the debriefing.
“What’s up Rogers?” Steve held eye contact for a beat before he lowered his chin and looked towards his shoes. Rowan tried not to hold her breath; she had a feeling she knew where Steve was headed.
“Listen, Rowan, please just let me know that he’s okay at least. I’ve done everything but get on my knees and beg.”
“Wouldn’t mind you on your knees, Cap.”
“O’Connor, this isn’t the time for one of your quips to try and get me to back off.” Rowan looked up at Steve when he raised his gaze from his shoes to her face. He wasn’t flushed like he usually was when she cracked a joke to mess with him. She held her gaze and blinked lightly, trying to come off as bored and unbothered by his pressing the matter of Bucky.
“Listen Steve, I’ve told you if I found anything, you’d be the first to know.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me when you guys left Bucktown and disappeared? Huh? Because it seems to me that you and I have a different definition of letting me know when you find my best friend.”
“Ouch, how would Sam feel about you leaving him for Bucky?” Steve puffed his chest, face getting red with anger. He crossed his arms tightly, fabric of his shirt stretching almost painfully looking across his taught muscles.
“Damnit Rowan! I know it was you two in Bucktown! Natasha told me about your Chechnya accident; your leg gave it away. Please. Just… If you won’t tell me where he is or bring him in then… Just let me know he’s okay. He’s my best friend.” Rowan took a few breaths and cocked her hip before replying to Steve.
“Steve, I—“
“Rowan, listen, I talked to Nat about what he might be going through… As much as it stings, I get if he doesn’t want to come home; that he might not really be himself. Or—or even remember who he used to be. I won’t bug you about him anymore. I just want to know he’s okay and that he’s on the road to recovery.
“I trust you with him. I mean—yeah I’d like for it to be me out there helping him out, but I can understand why you might be the better option. So just keep him safe for me? And I’ll keep my door open for whenever you guys are ready to come home. This is your home Rowan, got it? You’re always welcome here.”
Rowan knew that if they knew half the shit she’s done she wouldn’t be wanted as much as Steve offered. She had promised that she wouldn’t tell Steve that she knew where Bucky was or if she was with him. But… it warmed a spot in her chest hearing Steve say with absolute conviction that she had a home with them, and that he trusted her to help Bucky.
Steve sighed with a small smirk on his face when Rowan mimicked a salute before nodding and mockingly calling behind her an ‘Aye aye Cap!’ That was probably the closest he was going to get to her telling him that she knew where Bucky was and that she would take care of him. Rowan kept her head down the rest of the walk to the jet. She barely nodded to the pilots when she boarded the jet, and tried not to think about how lucky Bucky was to have someone care that much about him.
She wondered if she’d ever feel that way about someone. She had Nat, but she knew if Nat couldn’t get herself out of a situation, it was low odds Rowan would be able to help her. She tried mentally shook her head and sent a quick text to Bucky before the jet left the runway. Once he responded with a sarcastic ‘finally’, Rowan shut off her phone and fell into a fitful sleep.
-TTA-
The sky was dark and stormy when Bucky met Rowan at the front gate of the safe house. It had taken her a few days of travel to make it back. She had landed in Rwanda and chartered a few other planes and busses before making it safely back to Nagano. Bucky held the gate open and quickly scanned the empty street before closing it behind Rowan as she brushed by him.
“So, how’d it go? Did anyone find out anything?” Rowan took a moment to pull off her rain jacket and sit down at the dining room table. Bucky stood with his hip slightly cocked and arms crossed over his thick chest. Rowan admired the hard lines of his shoulders before meeting his eyes and sighing slightly.
“They know something. Not sure what exactly. They saw us before we left Chicago but lost us shortly after. They don’t know where we are. Steve kept prying at me until he eventually just accepted that I wasn’t going to tell him definitively whether you were with me or not, so he just asked that I take care of you and to come home whenever you’re ready. Apparently we’re honorary members of the Avengers now.” Bucky blew air out his nose and let his lips raise in a small smile.
Rowan almost saw the crinkles in the corners of his eyes. Bucky moved over to the teapot that was steaming on the stove and poured it in two coffee cups. Handing one to Rowan, he sat down across from her on rested his elbows on the glass table.
“So what do you think we should do? Continue to Constanta? Or reroute?” Rowan took a slow sip of her tea, thinking hard about what their next move should be.
“I suggest we head to Constanta, Tony has a house there and he’s fine with me using it.”
“He’s okay with you harboring one of the world’s most dangerous assassins? The one who murdered his parents?” Bucky didn’t meet Rowan in the eyes as he spoke his last sentence. He cleared his throat as Rowan waited for him to meet her dark eyes.
“He doesn’t… know about that.” It was Rowan’s turn to break eye contact.
“Yet. I totally planned on telling him and I… I couldn’t bring myself to do it right now. I know that’s a safe place for us to go. He won’t tell anyone if we use his properties. When the timing’s right, I’ll tell Tony. Are you okay with us going there? Or do you think we should relocate somewhere else?” Bucky wanted to tell Rowan about his nightmares that he’d had when she’d been away with Steve.
The flood of memories they brought back made his head ache and eyes burn with unshed tears as he remembered the broken screams and sharp inhales that Tony’s mother had taken in her last few moments of life. He remembered the blood spattering across his face as he shot Howard.
“Bucky? Are you alright? Have you remembered something?” Rowan had sat up a bit straighter in her chair as she looked expectantly toward Bucky.
“Not right now, but… While you were gone. I was going over our travel plans in the back garden and – I don’t know, something about thinking of Tony triggered my memory of the night I murdered his parents. It was horrible, Rowan.” Bucky cleared his throat before continuing; Rowan waited patiently, knowing she didn’t really have anything to say anyway. Bucky appreciated her silence and understanding gaze.
“I’d feel a bit more comfortable if we reroute, at least for a little while until these memories aren’t so fresh… Is that okay?”
“Yeah, totally! There was about three months where I couldn’t go anywhere near New York after I regained my memories from nine eleven.”
“What is nine eleven?”
“How about we make some more tea and get supper started before I go into that?” Rowan and Bucky shared a smile as they stood and moved around the small kitchen to prepare supper.
-TTA-
Rowan felt herself relax, listening to the rain pitter-patter softly against the old windows as she set the small kitchen table. She could hear Bucky over the loud droplets finishing up supper. Over the past three months the two super soldiers had been lying low in a smaller suburb of Prague.
The older townhouse had been in one of Rowan’s cover names for a few years. She had purchased it shortly after Natasha had given her free reign once she was cleared by SHIELD’s medical team to travel alone. Nat didn’t know about it, and that made both Bucky and Rowan feel a bit more comfortable about staying for a longer period of time.
They had fallen into a comfortable routine; on Tuesdays they’d visit the farmer’s market, Fridays the grocery store for things they couldn’t find at the market, Rowan usually visited the local library and movie store every Saturday, and the old hole-in-the-wall gym was visited every day but Sunday.
Bucky was averaging memory breakthroughs about two to three times a week, depending on the activities Rowan dragged him along. Though much to Bucky’s annoyance he didn’t think he hated the outings Rowan took him on. He was starting to feel more normal. He liked the domesticity they’d found.
Though neither could fix their constant surveillance—not that they really wanted to—Bucky admired that they seemed to fit in within the small suburb. Mostly older folks who kept to themselves; every once in a while Bucky would get caught up in conversation with someone while he was tending to the small windowsill herb and flower boxes that Rowan insisted he grow. He would never admit he enjoyed the brightly painted sill boxes.
There was radio silence from the Avengers. Rowan didn’t mind. She had texted back and forth a bit with Nat and Sam, catching up on training shenanigans they had been going through with the left over SHIELD agents. The Avengers Compound was hosting a rotation of Military divisions with hopes to help the loyal SHIELD agents to new homes in similar jobs to when they had been employed with SHIELD. Tony jokingly referred to it as his way of wiping out his own red ledger.
“Need any help Barnes?” Rowan had resorted to calling Bucky by his last name after the visit to their gym. He had started getting used to his metal arm so he wasn’t as worried about using it to its full potential while sparring anymore. Needless to say he’d kicked her ass tonight, and she was sore. He smirked and held out a knife for her.
“Sure, Rowan, how nice of you to ask. You can dice up this onion to sauté for me.” Rowan rolled her eyes but grabbed the knife anyway and started dicing.
“You’re lucky you make bomb ass food, Barnes.”
“A good husband should be able to cook a decent meal for his wife every once in a while.” Rowan smiled softly, that was their cover after all, and they often joked about it while out and about in public. She glanced sideways as Bucky flipped the steaks over. His brow was heavy, and she noticed his shoulders tense up a fraction before Bucky lost his breath and dropped the spatula.
“Barnes? Bucky, hey, what’s happening. You okay? Another memory?” Rowan was speaking rapidly; Bucky had been having pretty regular breakthroughs, but usually he’d just rub his temple, shut his eyes, and breathe for a few moments before regaining his composure. Rowan could tell this was quickly turning into a more serious recall. She set her knife down and turned towards the dark haired man fully. She kept her arms at her sides—slightly bent, as were her legs—ready to move if need be.
Bucky hadn’t said a word since his whispered sentence. Just stood with his eyes looking at the steak as it burned. It was like he was frozen. His mind raced at a million miles a second, but his body couldn’t keep up. The memories whizzing across his mind made his head hurt and breath hitch. It was too much. His most recent memories hadn’t come through like this lately. Flashes of a woman—taller than him—helping him smash potatoes.
‘A good husband should be able to cook a decent meal for his wife every once in a while.’
‘You’ll make some lucky woman very happy in the future, Bucky, I just know it.’
‘You’ll be the best husband in Brooklyn.’
The words flashed through his mind and glimpses of the kind, older woman helping him chop and stir and bake food pressed against the front of his head painfully.
Rowan had watched Bucky struggle to breathe for about three minutes before touching his shoulder. She knew this was not a good idea, but his face was turning slightly blue and her steak was beginning to burn. Before she knew it that silver arm had grabbed her dicing knife and swung at her abdomen. Thanks to her ass-whooping by that same arm earlier in the day, her reflexes weren’t as quick as normal.
Rowan cursed her bruised ribs for hindering herself from moving out of the way quick enough. The knife had sliced a sizeable gash in her side; it missed all her organs but still stung like a mother fucker. Thankfully the blood splatter seemed to knock Bucky out of his head enough to pull away before Rowan’s closed fist met his bearded cheek.
“Oh my god Rowan I’m so sorry.” Bucky dropped the knife and grabbed Rowan as she slid down the cabinets to the floor.
“It’s fine.” Bucky reached for the dish towel resting on the counter and pressed it against the bleeding gash on Rowan’s side. He didn’t want to hold the towel to her side; he wanted to go jump off a fucking bridge.
“No it’s not. Look what I did. You’re bleeding.”
“You’ve done much worse to me in the past Bucky. I promise, I’m fine. Go get the first aid bag out of the bathroom.” Bucky gently replaced his shaky hands with Rowan’s own and rushed to the small bathroom. When he returned, Rowan had pulled her tank top off and was sitting with her ankles crossed on the counter. The stove had been turned off.
Bucky gulped and averted his eyes away from her sports bra as he got out the supplies so he could stitch her side up. The bleeding had subsided for the most part, but stitches would still help. He couldn’t bring himself to speak while he threaded the needle.
Rowan focused hard at the crease between Bucky’s eyebrows as he threaded a little too deep through the fat of her side. She wasn’t mad at him—how could she be? Had she not done the same thing—worse things—to Natasha and innocent people while she was still healing? In all reality it’d only been about five months since Bucky had been out of HYDRA’s grasp.
Relatively speaking he was recovering far quicker than she had anticipated. The shaking of his hands and deafening silence told Rowan that Bucky was mad at himself and probably still didn’t accept that what’d he’d done was completely normal for this completely abnormal situation.
“I have this dream—nightmare, really—that Nat and I are on this train going through the Ireland countryside… It’s a beautiful day, there’s children running up and down the aisle way and the conductor is giving some commentary on the different castles we pass. So we’re going along and all of a sudden I look out and on this far away hill is a small castle. And I can’t remember the name but I know with absolute certainty I’ve been there before. And then there are flashes of a man and woman, they’re kind of sickly looking. But they’re smiling. They’re always smiling down at me. And we’re in this castle.
“Then the next thing I can remember my face is covered in blood. There’s a man’s arm in my hand, only he’s five seats down. There’s a window busted open, rain is pouring in and people are crying and screaming. I don’t know what happened. I felt—like I was being electrocuted… It… I don’t know. It’s not even that I ripped some guys arm off. It was the rain that sticks out the most to me. It had been so clear and beautiful that day—odd for Ireland. And maybe I had blacked out for longer than I thought… I’m not sure.
“I’ve not told Nat about the dream. I’m… I’m scared as fuck Bucky. I’m scared because I think it might be an actual memory and not just a nightmare. Sometimes I can still feel the electricity coursing through my muscles like it did in the dream.” Rowan had been staring at the wrinkle in Bucky’s brow for so long she almost jumped when the crease disappeared and steel blue eyes blinked in front of her.
“You’re parents. Those sick people. That’s who you were at the castle with.”
“Yeah. Least I think so. I hope so. They looked like they loved me a lot.” Bucky didn’t say anything as he threw away the blood soaked towel and burnt steaks. He gathered up the medical supplies and returned them to the bathroom down the hall. He helped Rowan put her torn shirt back on and propped himself against the counter, looking down.
“You’re gonna hurt people Bucky. You’re human. Better me than some civilian. Don’t beat yourself up about it, okay? That’s my job.” Rowan didn’t have to force the smile that came to her lips. Bucky smiled, but Rowan figured it was for a different reason.
“My mom. She taught me to cook. That’s… She used to tell me that to be a good husband I’d need to be able to cook for my wife. She taught me how to make a lot of things. It was… Nice. My dad wasn’t around whole lot.” Rowan put her hand on his shoulder without hesitation this time and Bucky appreciated the small gesture.
It reassured him that there was at least one person who wasn’t afraid of him. Rowan squeezed once before hopping off the counter and getting another pair of steaks out of the fridge. When she didn’t speak, Bucky took that as an invitation to continue.
“I guess these past few months of… Doing normal people things brought up the memory. Though I’m not sure why my reaction was so violent. I haven’t been that bad since the first month you found me” Bucky threw away the bloodied onion slices and grabbed another after he’d cleaned the counter top.
He let Rowan start the steaks this time. The oddness of the discussion they were having and the familiar motions they were going through didn’t pass by either of them unnoticed. It was weird.
“You have been doing really well. But a lot of your recent memories have been from not that long ago. The worst reactions I had were when I remembered things from before I was taken. It seems that’d be the same case for you. Cooking with your mother was before you were taken by HYDRA. There’s more shit to fight through to get to that memory. Makes sense.”
“Thanks, Rowan.”
“For what?”
“This… The whole domestic routine. It’s… nice. I know it won’t last very long. But I enjoy it. I feel bad sometimes because I can tell you don’t seem as relaxed with it as you could be. But I still appreciate it.” Rowan felt her stomach turn a little in a way that she did not like. But she didn’t stop the soft smile that turned her lips upward, or the soft nudge she gave Bucky as they domestically cooked supper together.
“No problem Bucky. And don’t go around getting a big head about it, but this domestic shit isn’t that bad with you.”

A Legacy Left Behind - Chapter 1 - Initial Encounters - Part 3
Central Command Center, Terra Atlantus - Antarctica
John was just finishing his cup of what felt like the best coffee in the world, after spending 12 days cooped up healing inside a stasis pod, according to the cute nurse who got him breakfast. He was only allowed a bowl of warm oatmeal and a glass of juice, but he managed to charm Natalie enough to take pity on him and smuggle him a coffee. He was sworn to secrecy on the pain of death. John had taken the oath solemnly.
The wave of urgency came from nowhere and everywhere at once and he was off the infirmary bed and running towards the centre of the building before it even registered he was moving. A startled nurse yelped and jumped out of his way and he hastily threw an apology over the shoulder, but didn't break stride.
He barreled into the control room with the Chair, without really realizing the mounting dread and chaos in the atmosphere. Nobody even noticed the scrubs clad Major until he was right in front of the Chair and focused on the petrified doctor who was clutching onto the Chair for his dear life. The people around Carson were shouting at him urgently to shut it the hell down.
"Get off the Chair. Now Doctor!" The barked command brokered no argument and Carson flew off the chair as if he was thrown off by an invisible force.
John was seated on it the moment doctor came off. The Chair brightened and inclined all the way like it had never done before, since it was discovered. The whole platform was bathed in a shimmering blue as the space above their heads was transformed into a translucent holographic display of the immediate vicinity outside the facility.
John had his eyes closed in concentration. In his mind's eye, he saw the scene of the impending doom of one General Jack O'Neill and his pilot inside the approaching Black Hawk. He stared in amazement at the amount of clear and precise details he was provided through his link to the Chair that housed the control core of the facility. The identities of the life signs, the flying object, speed, height, wind conditions, temperatures and all sorts of other minute data streamed into his mind, all neatly labeled. The warmth he had gotten very much familiar with during his days in the pod was insistent and apologetic in the back of his mind. John spared a second to send reassurance that it was not its fault and John was going to take care of it.
He focused on the squid-like missile that was on its way to annihilate the oncoming intruder. The missile was confident in the live lock it had on the intruder and was cheerfully informing Sheppard that the kill will be confirmed in 6.342 seconds.
John thanked the missile for its bravery and told it sternly to stand down now because this was not an intruder; but most certainly the leader of the Outpost. Therefore they needed to keep him alive and grant him unhindered entry.
The squid missile was skeptical. John was the princeps/primaria (leader/ primary), not the life sign inside the incoming flying object; the missile was quite sure.
OK! John spent another half a precious second to digest that bit of news and went back to his mental link to the missile. He confirmed that yes he was sure and the little missile must ABORT and RETURN TO BASE right now. No, it was not in trouble for anything and yes, John promised it would be sent out first the next time any invader showed up because it was a perfect little missile with top notch performance.
He let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding when he felt the squid missile change course in an elegant, sweeping turn mid air, barely 10 yards from the chopper, and started a sedate run back towards the Outpost. He kept his mental link, sending praise and encouragement towards the little ball of destruction as he guided it back inside the building through the roof door and to the cradle on the platform. Then he gently laid it down as if it were a sleeping baby.
He disengaged from the Chair the moment he felt the missile go dormant and reclined it to a sitting position. He had been reacting on reflex until that point and as the surrounding glow and the last of the shimmering lights were fading away, he became aware that he had made a bit of a spectacle of himself.
Dr. Carson, Dr. Rodney the Hurricane and five other doctors and a few shell shocked Marines were all staring at him with their mouths half open and eyes bugging out their sockets. He gave them all a sweeping glance from left to right and broke into an abashed lopsided grin.
"The chopper is fine, it didn't crash or anything-The General should be here in about 6 minutes or so. And the missile won't take off again by accident if you want to keep studying it. I made sure of it," he reported to Dr. Carson because he was the only person he had spoken to before. He hoped that the Marines who were still staring at him in shock wouldn't come to their senses and arrest him for trespassing or something.
Dr. Hurricane managed to break away first from his astonishment and started grinning from ear to ear in a disturbing way.
"Of course! This is why it went through all those tantrums to get you here. That was quite good. You think maybe you made a record of it so I can study it frame by frame? Later of course, maybe as a side project." He gushed at John.
"See now I can start on these re-calibrations and run the diagnostics on the side at the same time. Oh yes, maybe get the crazy Czech to upload his maintenance wish list as well." He started clicking his fingers to himself and started to type at light speed on one of his laptops, muttering about the Lists and Schedules.
Carson recovered quickly upon hearing this and came instantly to his patient's defense once again. "Absolutely not, you daft bugger, the Major is still not released for duty and I need to keep him under observation for at least 12 more hours in the infirmary."
"Aye you look a bit pale already lad." The last comment was directed at John and if he was honest, John could feel a slight pressure build up behind his eyes and temples already.
He stood from the Chair and Carson moved to help him on reflex. That was a good thing because John swayed slightly on his feet and the doctor steadied him.
"Hello, Major Sheppard, I'm Dr. Elizabeth Weir. I'm the head of admin here and I would love to speak to you when Carson allows you visitors." John carefully shook the offered hand of the beaming Dr.Weir and replied an affirmative politely.
And then he let himself be herded away by Carson, to the relative safety of the infirmary. where John could hide away from the gleaming eyes and beaming smiles that were pointed at him from everywhere.
He heard one of the Marines finally letting out a loud relieved sigh and announcing that he was going to update McMurdo about the timely averted disaster, before walking away towards a phone mounted on a wall.
Defense Outpost - Antarctica
General O'Neill found himself inside the elevator, slowly grinding downhill to the central command of the Ancient Outpost not quite dead, as yet. He had left his shaken pilot above ground to collect himself and regroup. O'Neill hoped one of the soldiers above would give him a proper meal and may be some Valium. There were a few times that O'Neill had been concerned the kid might just finish the job the alien missile started; by the wobbly way he piloted the bird the rest of the journey. He was going to have to get someone else to chauffeur him back, he sighed to himself.
The elevator door opened down below to reveal the ecstatic and excited frame of Dr. Daniel Jackson. He was beaming from ear to ear and grabbed the General by the shoulder and propelled him along towards the inner building when the General did not move fast enough for him.
"Oh, Jack, That was just brilliant! We got this bright and live holo-display on the ceiling and we saw everything! I mean everything with sound effects to boot! It even had your weight and the pulse rate on display -it was crazy- One moment this bad boy was zooming in on you to blow you up and then it just turns around, cool as you please and just comes strolling back in! You just had to see it Jack. I think McKay was asking for a recording, so you might just get to see it!"
"Gee Daniel, I'm so glad my imminent death was such a source of entertainment for you." Said the General mildly.
"Oh no. I mean, no it wasn't. Of course not." Jackson fidgeted, pushed his glasses up his nose briefly and looked appropriately contrite for about a half a second.
"But Jack, you didn't die and the Major saved you just in time! You know what this means, right? Think of the treasure trove of data he can dig up for us! Finally we can make some meaningful headway in locating Atlantis!" And he was back to bright-eyed bushy-tailed Fan-Girling excitement.
"We will let the man recover and talk to him first before we go hard wiring his ass to an Ancient thing-a-ma-jig, eh Jackson?" He patted the overly excited scientist on the shoulder and continued sedately towards the people who were waiting to give him a proper report. He hoped.
He went around the central command and continued his way towards the bigger and open area they had converted to a conference room. As predicted, Dr.Weir, Dr. McKay, Lt. Ford and Sergeant Marks were waiting for him. Jackson went around O’Neill to join the expectant and beaming faces and turned towards him, completing the united front.
This should be good, Jack O’Neill mused privately.
"Welcome to Terra Atlantus General O'Neill-I would ask how your journey here was, but we all know that it was eventful. It was a genuine accident and we managed to avert the disaster in time thanks to our newest addition, Major Sheppard. I do apologize on behalf of the team for the scare, General."
Ever the diplomat, Weir didn't waste time extending her warm and happy welcome, heartfelt apology and the main objective of this little meeting all in one breath, punctuated with a warm toothy smile.
He nodded at her but turned his attention to the young Lieutenant who was holding himself at painfully rigid attention.
"Please unlock yourself from that painful stance and tell me what happened, Ford?" He waved a hand at the Marine and took the seat at the head of the long table, signaling everybody to sit and get on with it.
The Lieutenant went to a parade rest and relaxed marginally.
"Sir, the Drs McKay and Beckett were attempting a system check with the Chair and the Drs. Gordon and Sommers were occupied with the inert missile. Then the missile went online and took off through the roof. According to Dr. McKay, this was probably due to poor or confusing mental link generation. Then the Major intervened and managed to recall the bogey back to base and store it. He informed us that it was safe from any unscheduled flights again. Sir." He sat down ramrod straight, once finished with the succinct account.
“Yes, yes, I have told him many times to concentrate properly. But seeing as he was the only one who could make the thing work, I had to get him on it. Those power readings were all over the place and I had to make sure we didn't blow up or implode. If he had just given me the Major instead of himself, I'm sure we wouldn't have launched a live missile at you -” added McKay impatiently.
“- Accidentally.” He remembered to tag in.
"Are they stable now? Are we about to explode or implode?" At McKay's confused look O'Neil sighed to himself.
"The power readings you were just now worried about Doc? It is still wonky or stable?" He asked with great patience.
"What? Wonky? Of course they are stable now. In fact, the power levels throughout the whole structure have leveled out and distributed for maximum efficiency."
"Huh, I wonder if he did it on purpose or if the system just did it by itself after recognizing his presence." The doctor muttered the last to himself; promptly getting busy on the laptop he had in front of him.
Concentrating only on the fact that they were not about to go boom in the near future for the moment, Jack turned his attention towards the head of admin.
"So tell me Dr. Weir, how goes the life here?" He settled comfortably into the chair, draping his arm over the back rest. By experience, he knew this would take time. The Sergeant placed a steaming mug of coffee in front of him and he gave the man a smile. There are still some kind and humane people around here Jack, he told himself.
"Oh everything has been wonderful of course. The excavation team's last report stated with confidence that we will be finished with the final bit of discovery of the complex by the end of the week. We shall be able to send a team for exploration to that area soon. They are saying that they may have unearthed a lab area and what looks to be a closed up storage area of some kind. The exploration team is quite excited that it could be more drones or maybe even the gate ships the data-base mentioned.”
“Doctor Beckett and his team are ready to proceed with the animal trials for the artificial gene therapy. He is confident that his serum will manipulate the junk DNA in a human into a maximum level IV ATA capability. This will work on about 75% of non ATA gene population according to his latest report. Once we are through the trials and upon a peer committee approval, we could move to the clinical trials and then start the distribution among the SGC personnel -" Weir said before pausing for breath and taking a sip of her tea.
Just as well, because O'Neill was beginning to wonder if she was hiding an extra pair of lungs on her somewhere.
"Also, the translation of the initial data transfer we got from the Ancient depository is going well. We have had two more data transfers from engaging the Chair since then. We are getting all kinds of information about the Outpost, its capabilities, hints of other possible structures located around the galaxy even. But the translation is slow going since we only have three people who are proficient in the Ancient language, but it all looks quite promising."
She gave the General a winning smile before continuing.
"This is exactly why the Major will be invaluable right now. He will be able to sort the whole database into a coherent entity with an accessible index for us to study it efficiently. Not to mention all the help he can provide with the hard science projects around all Ancient equipment and of course the offense and defense capabilities of Terra Atlantus itself."
She finished her spiel without failing to enforce that they already had their greedy mitts wrapped tightly around poor Sheppard.
Not that Jack objected. He didn't. He could appreciate the value of having a close copy of an Ancient to run all things Ancient. He was quite sure the Ancient Outpost did not go through all the trouble of almost taking the entire nation hostage and demanding the life sign designated ‘P1’ be found and delivered to Antarctica, post-goddamn-haste, just to give him up. No, they needed him alright.
He had seen the kid's military jacket and was suitably impressed. The kid could pilot all the choppers on active service and a couple of fighters and even some of the heavy birds. He did have the odd remark or two made by his more sedate COs (read: desk jockeys) about following orders and maverick tendencies. But this was on a par with black ops requirements and they needed intelligent, quick thinking, cocky pilots who treated orders a bit like guidelines sometimes to get the job done. O'Neill would know, because he was not that different from this kid not too long ago. That was until someone at the head of the food chain decided to give him stars on the shoulder in the vain hope that it would make him more of a level-headed, responsible drone person.
Therefore he was convinced that this kid needed a proper and thorough orientation into the world of Stargate Command. This included the trip to Cheyenne mountain; the home of Stargate Command. The kid would get the full briefing of the program including its history, introduction to the planet-hopping through the gate, a thorough education on all things Ancient, the menace of the Wraith and a proper introduction and integration to the military contingent of the SGC.
And since he was the reason Jack wasn't dead and buried under burning wreckage, he would also get the kid into Area 51 where they designed their coolest toys to date. Time spent among the F-302 fighter interceptors and even cooler Ancient/Asgard hybrid X-13 fighters would do him good. Jack would also throw in the mandatory tours in their five active duty warships in orbit, as the cherry on top.
It had obviously nothing to do with the fact that Jack might be able to coax the kid into flying him back to McMurdo on the way back and continue the journey to the mountain with him in the luxury of the SGC private jet. Of course not; Jack was quite sure the Richardson kid was quite capable of flying him back. Maybe…
All this and more would take time. Jack was determined to get the kid through due process before this lot buried him here under the ice in the name of research, never to be seen again. Jack knew from experience that the scientists of all kinds generally lost touch with reality when they got their way. They all needed careful handling and management. And Jack was not about to release John Sheppard in-to their well-meaning yet disastrous clutches without proper training on geek-handling as well. This was the main reason he made this unscheduled visit in the first place. When he had seen the latest update the day before that the Major was out of the pod, he had made arrangements to be here when he woke up.
"I have been digging through the archives on all things Atlantis Jack - I think I'm quite close to figuring out the last recorded gate address to where the Ancients took off to. I have a feeling it might be in a different galaxy- Andromeda or probably Pegasus. And we will be another step closer to the Lost City. We'll need to focus on acquiring a ZPM because I think we might need extra power to dial this one. I just need to decode the final bit of the chevrons and we will be good to go." Jackson added his two cents to the cause.
Dr. McKay piped up when he heard the magic word.
"A Zero Point Module, often abbreviated Zed Pee Em, or for you Americans Zee Pee Em, is a power source, created by the Ancients, capable of supplying tremendous amounts of energy. It is one of the most formidable power sources known to exist, having been developed by the Ancients of course, kind of like a miniature universe in a bottle-oh, we could really use one more of those."
“Why, thank you for the waste of that perfect explanation McKay," O'Neill sniped at the unhealthy excitement pouring out of the chief of science. He then looked around and added, "Well, since everything seems to be more or less on track and in all of your capable hands, I would like to meet Sheppard now."
With that he rose swiftly from his chair and exited the conference room without giving anyone the chance to regroup and start making demands. When Daniel and Weir started to follow, he gently but firmly informed them he wanted to see the Major by himself.
The Infirmary
He found the kid sitting cross legged on a bed at the far end of the infirmary, hunched over a PDA Carson had kindly given him. It dawned on him then, seeing the still white scrubs-clad figure, that it wasn't that long ago Marshall found him half dead in a cell in Afghanistan. The stasis pod had done a good job, he thought to himself.
Carson was hovering nearby over the medical paraphernalia surrounding Sheppard. When the Major saw the one star general ambling towards him, he automatically started to stiffen up to attention. O'Neill casually waved a hand at him to stay put and went to sit comfortably on the bed next to Sheppard. His ass was numb from having to sit on that metal chair at the conference room for a half an hour.
"So, you're the hot shot who saved my ass just now, hah? Thanks for that. So how's it going? You are feeling alright after your little stay in the pod?"
John Sheppard was eyeing him warily. He was sure he was the first superior officer the kid had to report to, who was sitting on a bed nearby dangling his legs over the edge with no apparent concern in the world. Well, he was secure in his position enough he didn't have to play power games with a subordinate. Besides, proper military procedures sometimes gave him heart-burn. He preferred to avoid them both when he could.
"Carson tells me I'm quite well healed physically. Thank you, Sir. And he says that I'll need to go for a psych evaluation before he can release me for active duty. I'm not quite sure where to go from there, Sir?"
The kid managed to end the statement in a question and gave him an expectant stare.
"You're in luck because that is why I am here. Well, that and to make sure people here are behaving themselves in general."
Expectant stare turned into a slightly bewildered expression.
"If you are up to it, I will take you back with me to civilization to get you up to date in the know-how of things and what you have tangled yourself up in. Also you can tell us what happened to you back in Afghanistan, before we found you. You know-a proper debrief and such. We can take care of your psych evals there and whatever follow-ups Carson will insist on. I'll be here overnight and be leaving at noon tomorrow. So what do you say?"
The kid agreed politely because O'Neill wasn't really asking. Dr. Beckett gave his grudging consent to release him after extracting promises of getting Sheppard a full medical evaluation the moment they reached the mountain. The doctor also had some budding aspirations about getting Sheppard wrangled in his gene therapy research. Jack took an inordinate amount of pleasure squishing those at the neck. While he was sure that the good doctor would never cross any lines into human experimentation, he always felt that Carson could be quite intense when it came to his gene therapy research.
Feeling quite satisfied about the good deed he had done for the day, namely rescuing Sheppard, he left the infirmary in search of food. Near death experiences always left him starving and he needed ample sustenance before he had to break the news to the natives that he was taking their prize away for a while...

The brand new OnePlus 6T is the first OnePlus phone to be Verizon certified.
However, owners of the device are saying using the phone on Big Red is a bit tricky.
Below, we’ll tell you what you need to do to get the best possible experience using the OnePlus 6T on Verizon.
A few days before OnePlus launched the OnePlus 6T in New York City, news leaked that the device would be the first from the company to be certified to work on the Verizon network. Sure enough, OnePlus confirmed the news during its launch event.
Does the OnePlus 8 support a memory card? Neither the OnePlus 8 or the OnePlus 8 Pro have a microSD card slot. Does the OnePlus 8 support 5G? Yes, both the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro support sub.
However, it appears certification doesn’t make it as easy as one would expect to bring the device to Big Red. OnePlus 6T device owners — most of which are just now seeing the device show up at their doorsteps — are reporting various problems getting the device to work properly on the network.
We’ve taken a look around and figured out what you need to do to get the OnePlus 6T to work properly on Verizon. Here we go!
The magic words are “CDMA-less device”
When you add a OnePlus 6T to your Verizon Wireless plan, it’s not as simple as taking the SIM card out of your old device and throwing it into the new one. Instead, you’re going to have to call Verizon customer support and tell them exactly what kind of device this is, which is a CDMA-less device.

Without getting overly technical, the CDMA wireless standard is on the outs, and Verizon mostly relies on the 4G LTE standard instead. If you simply do a SIM card swap, it appears Verizon will default your device as a CDMA phone.
However, the OnePlus 6T isn’t a CDMA phone, it’s an LTE phone.
To be clear, if you do a quick SIM swap, the OnePlus 6T will still mostly work — but certain things will be wonky and some things won’t work at all. In order to get everything up and running, you’ll need to call Verizon support and tell them the device is CDMA-less. Once they switch the profile, your OnePlus 6T should work just fine in minutes.

Some reps won’t know what you’re talking about
If you get ahold of a Verizon rep and ask them to please update your network account so it works in a CDMA-less phone, you might find they have no idea what you’re talking about. According to users on Reddit and the OnePlus forums, some reps know exactly what this means while others are totally in the dark.

Other times, the rep might know what you mean but will tell you something along the lines of, “I don’t see a CDMA-less option here for your account.”
OnePlus 6T: Where to buy, when, and how much (Update: McLaren Edition info)
https://youtu.be/Tto72YWsMV8buy it from OnePlusUpdate: February 4 (9:04 am ET) - OnePlus is now selling the special McLaren Edition of the OnePlus 6T on its web site. This version of the phone has 10GB of RAM …
This problem stems from the billing side of Verizon and the network side not being in sync. For example, the network might know you’re using a certified OnePlus 6T, but your billing account doesn’t show that. In that case, the rep will not be able to update your account.
When that happens, you need to inform the rep of this issue and have them make sure the billing and network accounts are synced. Once things are synced up, the rep should see the CDMA-less option and then enable it for you.
As a side note, if you would like to do this work ahead of time, you can update your billing information yourself. Log in to your Verizon account at verizonwireless.com and navigate to My Verizon > My Device > Activate or Switch Device > Activate on an Existing Line. Once there, follow the instructions and you’ll be one step ahead of the game.
Steps to activate OnePlus 6T on Verizon
Now that you know what the problem is, here are the steps you should take to activate your OnePlus 6T on the Verizon network:
Tumblr media
Call or start an online chat with a support rep and tell them you are trying to activate a Verizon-certified phone on your account.
Inform them that they need to set the device as CDMA-less, aka, LTE-only. If that works, great. If not…
Ask them to ensure that both the billing and network profiles for your account are the same, i.e., they both say you are using a OnePlus 6T.
Once the billing/network sync is complete, the rep should see the CDMA-less setting in your network account.
It should only take a few minutes for the CDMA-less change to hit your OnePlus 6T.

NEXT: T-Mobile OnePlus 6T owners reporting success unlocking the phone early
Here’s how to get more storage space with the OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 3, two brilliant mobiles that sadly don’t directly support microSD memory cards. From memory card adapters to WiFi drives, these are the best solutions for quickly expanding the OnePlus phones’ memory.
We absolutely adore the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3, which offer tremendous value for money, but they aren’t quite perfect sadly. For instance, both phones shun memory cards, which means you’re stuck with the internal storage space for storing your apps, media, photos and other bits. And even with a base option of 64GB, that storage can fill up unnervingly quickly when you start downloading games or shooting 4K video.

Don’t fret though, because it’s actually possible to quickly and easily expand the OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 3’s built-in storage space. All you need is to sign up to the cloud, or choose from a selection of nifty accessories such as Type-C USB storage keys and memory card adapters.
Here’s how to get more storage space on your OnePlus handset.
Read next: How to free up storage space on your phone
How to expand the OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 3’s storage space: Use a microSD memory card adapter
While the OnePlus 3 and 3T don’t have a microSD memory card slot, you can get around this by using a third-party memory card adapter. These adapters plug into the OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 3’s USB port, used for charging the phones. With that done, all you need to do is slot a memory card into the adapter, and the external storage should be recognised by the phone.
However, remember that the OnePlus handsets use Type-C USB, not the bog-standard micro USB of yesteryear. So older memory card adapters won’t work.
One example of an adapter that works with the OnePlus is the HyperDrive USB Type-C Adapter. This handy device adds slots for microSD and full-sized SD cards, as well as a bonus full-sized USB port which allows you to attach a USB flash drive. That’s some impressive flexibility, for quickly and easily transferring files to and from the 3T or 3.
How to expand the OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 3’s storage space: Plug a drive into the USB Type-C port
Another option for adding extra storage to the OnePlus phones is an external Type-C USB drive, which supports Android phones. Oneplus 6t Android 11
If you’re off on your hols or some other long trip and you want to carry a massive selection of music and movies to keep you entertained, one possible solution is a hard drive with built-in WiFi support. This will allow you to stream tunes and flicks direct to your OnePlus wherever you roam, providing there’s a wireless network.
Seagate, Sandisk and a few other manufacturers offer WiFi drives that can quickly and easily connect to WiFi and stream video and audio content direct to a mobile phone. One example is the Seagate Wireless Plus, which boasts a mighty 1TB of space – enough for dozens of high-def movies. In other words, plenty to keep you entertained during that wet weekend in Windsor.

How to expand the OnePlus 3T or OnePlus 3’s storage space: Cloud storage
An alternative solution to carrying around some form of physical drive or adapter is signing up for some cloud storage. The likes of Google offer free cloud backup for your media, through services such as Google Photos and Drive. You’ll need a decent internet connection to access your stored content, of course.
Cloud storage isn’t much use if you want more space for apps and games. But thankfully you can also create your own cloud storage at home, using a NAS drive. Check Amazon for affordable NAS solutions, which connect to your home WiFi and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Providing you have an internet connection, that is.

Phones have gone from something you use for calls, texts, and managing appointments to do-it-all computing devices. Because for many people, phones are quickly replacing PCs, it only makes sense that we'd see the same sort of variety: casual phones, business phones, and yes, gaming phones.
While you can play games on any phone, the Nubia Red Magic 5S is built for it, with a powerful chipset, a butter-smooth 144Hz display, and even a built-in cooling fan. The phone looks great on paper, but does it focus too much on gaming-specific features or is it well-rounded enough to be your daily driver?

Design & Build Quality
Tumblr media
There are two versions of the Red Magic 5S, each with different specs and a different finish. We're looking at the lower-specced version, which features 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage and comes in the Sonic Silver finish. The higher-spec version comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, and a flashier if somewhat gaudy two-tone finish called Pulse.
While I'm curious how the even higher-spec phone would perform, I'm glad I received the review unit I did, because I prefer the look of it by a wide margin. Though it's called Sonic Silver, there is a slight blue tint to the finish that helps it stand out in a sea of drab-looking Android phones.
Partly due to the metal used in the build and partly due to the non-standard components like cooling fans, this is heavier than your average phone. I didn't mind this and while it's certainly a good deal heavier than the iPhone 12 Mini I use on a daily basis, I didn't find the weight annoying even after marathon gaming sessions on the 5S.
Speaking of cooling fans, these necessitate vents on the side of the Red Magic 5S. These are unusual to see on a phone, as you'd imagine, but I like the effect on the aesthetics. They give it the appearance of a powerful phone which, as it turns out, is very much the case.
Display
Tumblr media
Somewhat bucking recent trends, there is no slight notch in the display, nor is there a camera placed smack dab in the middle of the upper part of the screen. Instead, you get good old-fashioned bezels. I know these are often frowned on now, but I find the half-centimeter bezels at the top and bottom of the phone lend a nice sense of symmetry.
These bezels also have a practical nature since this is a phone you'll often use in landscape orientation. They give you a spot to actually hold on to the phone without your fingers obscuring part of the screen, which comes in handy in games with significant HUD elements on the sides of the screen.
The display is a 6.65-inch AMOLED panel, which brings some impressive color and brightness to the table. Even more impressive are the supported refresh rates. While you can use the standard 60Hz refresh rate to improve battery life, you also have options for 90Hz and 144Hz.
At 144Hz, the phone uses more battery but feels significantly smoother. This refresh rate is mainly meant for games, but I liked its overall effect on the feel of the phone so much that I left it on this setting at nearly all times.
Gaming Features
Tumblr media
One of the first things you'll notice looking over the Red Magic 5S is the bright red slighter on the upper-left side of the phone. Slide this up and the phone enters Compete Mode.
This is a dedicated gaming space that serves as an alternate launcher with several gaming-specific features. Here you can launch games, but also toggle on various options like the 144 Hz refresh rate and block calls and messages to keep you in the zone.
One of these options is the internal fan, which helps keep the phone from heating up during intense gaming. It's strange to hear the slight whir of a fan coming out of a phone, but with this on I never noticed the phone heating up significantly, even in the most demanding games.
My review unit of the Red Magic 5S also came with the company's Ice Dock. This is an optional add-on that brings an external fan to help keep the Red Magic 5S even cooler. Just slide it on, plug the built-in USB-C cable into the port on the bottom of the phone, and you've got even more cooling power.
Tumblr media
This isn't where the gaming features end. The Red Magic 5S features dual Shoulder Triggers, touch-sensitive areas on the right side of the phone that becomes the top when you turn it on its side for landscape-oriented games.
You configure the left and right shoulder triggers to virtually tap any area of the screen when you tap them. This means that they're compatible with any game without games needing to specifically support them. These lended such an advantage in games like Call of Duty that it almost felt like cheating.
The 4D Shock feature is nice, but isn't as impressive. This is only available in certain games like Asphalt 9, and adds a "rumble" effect that feels similar to the HD Rumble in the Nintendo Switch. If it was available in more games, the feature would be more impressive. Maybe someday.
Software
Tumblr media
The Red Magic 5S arrived running Android 10 and, as of the writing of this review, hasn't seen an update to Android 11. I've seen one major update during that time, but no sign that the phone will see an update to Android 11 anytime soon.
On top of Android, you get the Red Magic OS, which is essentially a pair of launchers and some various software. We've already gone over most of the significant elements here in talking about Compete Mode, but the look and feel of the phone isn't something you'd see on a Google Pixel device.
I only encountered one bug while using the phone, but it was a major one. After launching the Calendar app, the phone hard crashed to the point that the first thing I saw after the screen went black was the boot-up animation. This only happened once.
Performance
Tumblr media
The Red Magic 5S features a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with support for 5G, assuming you can get it wherever you're located. While it isn't quite as powerful as the Plus version of the same chipset, it's still among the fastest chipsets available in an Android phone right now.
This, combined with the 144Hz refresh rate, results in a phone that feels smooth no matter what you're doing. The 8GB RAM is plenty, though the bump up to 12GB is the top-spec version likely has app switching feeling even more responsive.
For benchmarks, we turned to Geekbench 5. Scores averaged 900 for single-core performance and 3,200 for multi-core. For the Compute benchmark, the Red Magic 5S averaged around 3,200 for the OpenCL score.
For gaming, I tested using a handful of the most popular games right now, including Call of Duty Mobile, Asphalt 9, Madden NFL 21, and PUBG. Even with plenty of complaints about Madden NFL 21 in the Play Store reviews, I didn't find the game to struggle even a bit on the Red Magic 5S, even at max settings.
The games I spent the most time with were Call of Duty Mobile and Asphalt 9, the former thanks to the shoulder buttons and the latter because of the support for the 4D shock feature. Even after long sessions, neither game ever lagged, and with the internal fan turned on (I never found the Ice Dock to be necessary) the phone stayed plenty cool.
Cameras
Tumblr media
The Red Magic features a 64MP rear-facing lens with a Sony IMX686 sensor, but the camera isn't very impressive. It's not bad in most cases, taking serviceable shots, but it's not going to take pictures that make you gasp when you view the results.
The front-facing camera is more of the same, but limited to 8MP. If you need to take a quick selfie, it will do the job, but again, this isn't a phone you'd buy just for the camera. It's possible future software updates may improve the photos that come out of the Red Magic 5S, but I wouldn't count on it.
Battery
Tumblr media
The battery has a capacity of 4,500 mAh, which is nice since gaming on a phone is relatively battery intensive. When it comes time to charge, the phone doesn't feature support for wireless charging, but it does feature Quick Charge up to 55W to help get the battery back up to max quickly.
Even with the capacity, I was surprised at how long the battery lasted. Maybe it's the optimizations you get from Compete Mode / Game Space, but even with the display in 144Hz mode, a near-full day of gaming, benchmarks, and other tests didn't drain the battery.
If you were to use this as you would use a "normal" phone, you could easily go a few days without charging. I can't imagine a situation where you'd need to plug this in during the day after an overnight charge.
Should You Buy The Red Magic 5S?
If you spend the vast majority of the time you're on your phone gaming, you're the exact person the Red Magic 5S is built for. While you can also harness that power for editing videos or similar power-user activities on the 5S, it's clear that this isn't what it was built for. Still, the latest update to the Red Magic 5S has ironed out enough of the bugs that it's a phone you can use for anything.
One of my personal problems with gaming phones has always been that they looked like the phone equivalents of Alienware PCs, over-designed and largely goofy. While the more powerful version of the phone in the Pulse finish suffers from this, the Sonic Silver version I had for this review doesn't have the same problem. You could carry this into a business meeting and nobody would bat an eyelash.
The Red Magic 5S isn't for everybody, but that is by design. If you're looking for a phone that can handle any game you throw at it with ease, this will be one of the first options you consider.

ABOUT BLOODY VOWS
FBI agent Lilah Love leads a complicated life. She's engaged to Kane Mendez, a man most call dangerous, but hey birds of a feather, do flock together. She's dangerous, too, and in ways only Kane understands. As for their happily ever after, well that might have to wait. Right now, an old enemy who should be dead is still living, Junior, her mystery letter writer, is stirring up trouble, and her family is trying to prove they're crazier than her. On top of that she has a new case: a dead woman in a bloody wedding dress. And since Lilah knows all too well there is no such thing as coincidence, clearly someone is sending her yet another message.
Tumblr media
EXCERPT FROM BLOODY VOWS
By the time I’m in the garage at the house, Kane is waiting for me at the door. He studies me with intensity, intensely unreadable. He’s assessing, questioning, but not talking. God love him and his understanding of how I operate.
I’m in my head.
I need to stay there right now.
He backs up to allow me to enter the back hallway and I’m quick to do just that. Once we’re both inside the warm house, I strip off my wet boots and he takes my coat before I follow him to the kitchen. I settle onto a barstool in front of the marbled island, while he prepares, and then hands me a hot Bailey’s coffee with whipped cream. Yes, the dark, dangerous Kane Mendez put whipped cream on my coffee. And still, we haven’t spoken a word.
He joins me, claiming the spot next to me while I sip my coffee, the warm, sweet liquid sliding down my throat and helping me come down about two notches.
Ready now, for more than my own mental ping-ponging of thoughts, I grab my phone, thumbing through photos until I find the image of the jar of blood. I set it in front of Kane.
“That was left for me in the refrigerator of the crime scene.”
He glances at it and then me, arching his dark brow. “The victim’s blood?”
“Pig’s blood,” I say matter-of-factly. “That’s not confirmed, but it’s going to be pig’s blood. I know it.”
He doesn’t freak out but then I don’t expect anything but calm, thoughtful contemplation from Kane. He doesn’t even ask why I make that assessment. He simply asks, “Is this Pocher or a Roger protégé?”
Just that easily he’s already in my headspace. And the question spoken at just the right time grounds me in logic rather than the emotion that had me storming out of Emma’s kitchen ready to kill Pocher.
“Logically,” I say, “the dress and the jar could point to either. Of course, my first reaction was Pocher. We just found out he came back. And when I saw that dead woman and then saw the jar of blood, I was ready to kill him.”
“Andrew influenced that. He already believed it was Pocher when he called you to the scene.”
“True. And it could be Pocher.”
“But your gut isn’t reading it that way. I can tell.”
I sip my coffee and add, “With the dress, and without the jar of blood, this would have read like a classic jealousy crime. The groom was already neglecting the bride and she had a side dude. And yet, it wasn’t a crime of rage. We’re not even sure how the woman died.”
“Meaning what?”
“She seemed to have a rupture from her throat, but there was no obvious cut.”
“Poison?” he asks.
“The new medical examiner doesn’t think so.” My cellphone rings with Lucas’s number where it still lays between me and Kane. His jaw clenches.
“I called him to hack for me, and he’s coming to dinner. And before you scowl, he was going to be alone, Kane.”
He downs his coffee, every last drop, and stands up, his spine stiff. Fuck. I answer the call on speaker. It’s better that way, with Kane’s ear where my ears are right now. “Lucas,” I say, and I don’t warn him that Kane is in the room. If he’s not smart enough to figure that out, he deserves whatever he gets. “What do you have for me?”
“I pulled Danica and North’s records. I’m sending them in a secure file by maildrop for you to accept. But there’s nothing exceptional there to see. And before you bitch, I’m digging deeper, but that will take time.”
“What about the victim and the men in her life?”
“Both her dead husband and her fiancé have donated to various Pocher-driven campaigns. That was easy to pull. Her fiancé has actually donated to your father’s campaign. But Lilah, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in this town who hasn’t pandered to Pocher’s power. And that’s all I have now. I’m drunk. I’m still drinking. No more updates tonight.”
“Yes, but—”
“No,” he says, “and I’m hanging up.” He disconnects.
I grimace and I’d call him back, but I decide better.
Kane at this point has filled a whiskey glass and is leaning on the counter in front of the sink. I stand up and close the space between us. I step directly in front of him and he downs his drink and sets the glass down. His hands are on the counter behind him. He doesn’t even think about touching me and I know it’s about Lucas. Which is exactly why I want him to know that I’m not thinking about Lucas, but rather those donations that connect Emma’s fiancé to my father. And I’m thinking about his words, his declaration that we’re dangerous to the Society. “What if—”
He grabs me and pulls me to him. “If you say that woman died because we’re together, and turn this into another reason to take off my ring, I swear to God, Lilah, I’m done.”
I can be hard. I can be cold. I can apparently be a killer. But I love Kane Mendez. He’s hard, too. He’s cold as ice. He’s forever in control. But he’s not those things with me. And it’s in this moment, for the first time ever, I realize how much I hurt him when I left him. Just how much I cut him.
“I regret every moment we were apart more than you can know. I’m not taking off the ring, Kane.” My hands settle on his chest. “Not ever. I’m not—”
His mouth closes down on mine, his hand on the back of my head, and just that easily, he reminds me I’m human again, capable of wanting, loving, needing, and forgetting all but the moment. But more so, he reminds me that he’s human. He isn’t always in control. He has emotions, torment I can taste on his tongue, even desperation he’d allow no other human to know he’s capable of feeling. I’ve pushed him away. I’ve hurt him. But I’ve always loved him and he doesn’t yet know that I’m done fighting against this, against us.
He just doesn’t know that.
And that’s a problem.
Kane picks me up and I don’t fight him. He has this thing about taking me to his bed, now our bed, as if that establishes some sort of ownership of me and us. Not that I could ever be owned, but deep down, I know we own each other. We always have. We always will. And if that’s what he needs, to feel that ownership, I’m not at war with him. I’m at war with Pocher and the Society. But he doesn’t take me upstairs and to the bedroom. He walks to the living room, neutral territory, and I understand his message. The tide has shifted. The demands have changed. Either I’m in this as his equal or I’m not in this at all. And neither is he.

My Review
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This story was a page turner I couldn’t put down. Lilah Love and Kane Mendez are once again engaged and are returning to the Hamptons to celebrate Thanksgiving, when she receives a call from her brother, the police chief, that a murder has occurred involving a woman in a wedding dress.
Is it a coincidence? Is someone trying to scare this fierce FBI profiler? Then they don't know her very well because she doesn't scare easily. But of course this is just the start of a eventful weekend for these pair as around every turn is another threat. Lilah Love will deliver justice one way or another, but is this an old enemy or a new killer that has arrived to torment her once again? But one thing is for sure, the cast of characters that she trusts is getting smaller and smaller as she takes on this new threat.
I loved the sizzling chemistry between Kane and Lilah these two seem to be all in finally with each other and I can't wait to see how this ends for them.
A real page turner I was deliberately vague about the circumstances and what Lilah and Kane endured so please go in blind ad enjoy this wild ride like I did. This will blow you away!
