Summary— Jess is turning into a great student and Luke not lorelai can think of a reason he’s become an amazing kid all of a sudden.
The library
Tumblr media
Two full weeks, two full weeks had gone by now and no calls from the school had been made to Luke's phone. This was more concerning than actually getting calls from the school. And another notable thing was that Jess started leaving every day at the same time 6:30 and he'd come back home at 9:30 or even earlier.
Luke was getting suspicious but he didn't exactly know how to bring it up since it was very possible he was cheating on his tests, maybe copying off some one else for work. So he decided he'd mention it another day, and every time that decided day came by he'd put it off again, and again.
the two of them were in the diner, it was surprisingly very quiet, there was only one person which was also surprising and then the person walked out. Jess started cleaning up the table before checking his watch.
6:15
He dropped the towel and rushed upstairs, he came back down with a backpack, had he been hiding that thing?
"where are you goin?" Luke asked, finally looking up from the counter “somewhere.” “what do you have in there?” “some things” he shrugged and opened the door, before he could even get one foot out the door he could hear Luke’s heavy steps get closer to him, he turned around again.
“What do you have in there” Luke said again, “why do you wanna know, it’s nothing important” Jess rolled his eyes and checked his watch again.
6:20
“I’ve never even seen you come outside with a backpack, and I need to know if you’re stealing things again” Luke gave him an annoyed stare, Jess unzipped the the bag and showed the books in his backpacks.
“Oh” Luke muttered, and looked over to the side “happy? Cause I need to get going” he zipped the bag up again. “where have you been going?” Luke sighed, it was time he got the truth.
“why do you wanna know?” Jess rolled his eyes again, “because I gotta know these things” another sigh came out of Luke, and Jess mumbled something. It took a good few minutes to get him to admit.
“I’m goin to the library”
He said it quietly but at least it was coherent.
———
“You’re late” you smiled as Jess sat down in front of you, “I know, I’m sorry, Luke wouldn’t let me go until I told him where I was going and what I was bringing” he smiled back at you and took out his books. “well, you’re here now, that’s what matters to me, now what’s today? math?” You smiled again and the two of you started opening your books.
“Today is math day” jess nodded and started reading your math notes.
———
“Jess, in the library? Is he meeting behind it and doing something?” Lorelai drank her coffee, “I didn’t think about that” Luke said as he gave her a doughnut.
The moment very quickly ended when Jess came in and quickly went upstairs without saying a word, Luke and Lorelai could hear the thud from Jess’s backpack hitting the floor.
Jess came back down and grabbed a doughnut; pink icing. Very weird to the two adults in the diner. Unknowing to them the only reason he grabbed it was because you swore that the pink icing on the doughnuts taste different.
———
“So anything new and interesting happening?” You asked as you and Jess walked around after studying, it was the quickest you’ve ever studied but that was because it was English, all jess had to do was read and write some answers.
“no, but, if you call getting a new shipments for the diner interesting, than yes, there something new happening” he smiled at you, “sounds very interesting” you smiled back at him.
“what about you?” Jess turned to you again “what about me? Nothing” you shrugged “cmon there’s gotta be something that’s happened so far this week” Jess said, “there’s nothing, nothings happened, and im 100 percent sure nothings gonna happen” you smiled again at him.
He wrapped his arm around your shoulder and smiled “how about I give you something to look forward to then since you’re free” Jess’s brows perked up, “really? how?” your hand reached up and grabbed his that was on your shoulder.
“how bout you, me, and chinese food, and we can do it on, Friday? You said your parents are leaving on Friday right?” He smiled as you two got closer to Luke’s diner.
“yeah, my parents are going on Friday.. that sounds like a plan” you smiled “it’s a date” he smiled. “Cmon I’ll walk you home” he walked past the diner “thanks Jess” you wrapped your arm around his waist as the two of you continued you way down the street.
-
“Did I see that right?” Lorelai’s eyes were wide and her brows were furrowed, “wow” Luke said, it was the only thing that could be uttered at the moment as they had just seen; You and Jess walking together.
“That must be why he’s going to the library so much! y/n’s always at the library!” Her mouth hung open in shock, it was silent for a few moments “y’know what, this is good” like said as he nodded while drinking his coffee.
“This is good?” She looked at him confused, “yes, he’s doing good in school, and it seems like he really likes y/n, as long as he isn’t hurting her, or doing bad things than I’m happy about this” Luke smiled “I guess this is good..” Lorelai smiled back at him.

Hospital Hallways | Luke Danes | Gilmore Girls
Tumblr media

no.16: hospitals
It was no secret that Luke hated hospitals. Everything from the sterile lighting, the smell of antiseptic in the corridors, to the constant hustle and bustle admits the calm. Not to mention the constant rotation of diseases and dying patients.
On a normal day, he could think of a million and one places that he would rather be but today he couldn't think of a single solitary reason to be anywhere else.
(Y/N) had fallen outside the diner. Black ice. Luke had seen it happen; he had rushed out to help her up but quickly found that she couldn't stand by herself. Her leg was broken, he knew that as much which meant a trip to the ER. Luke had offered to drive her, but it was only on the drive up did he realise what that entailed: being stuck in a hospital waiting room.
Luke went though, and he stayed in the waiting room as they examined her leg. He waited even though he hated nothing more than hospitals because there was nothing else he loved more than (Y/N).
He had loved her from a distance for a while. She came into the diner more and more, reciprocating Luke's flirting although he was convinced that hers were only friendly. He watched her from a distance, he didn't allow himself to get involved. She deserved something better than him, something better than what he could give her.
So he resigned himself to be her shoulder to cry on, to be there when she needed a friend. If he couldn't be anything more, Luke was happy to be the man to take her to the hospital when she broke her leg.

A non exhaustive list of terrible things Liz Danes did/said after she showed up:
- Makes a beeline straight for the pot the minute she shows up
- Hasn't called to check on Jess once in the nine (!) months he's been gone from Stars Hollow
- It's established that she generally has a terrible track record with men/employment/stable housing
- It's also established she is easily able to manipulate Luke into doing her bidding and in pretending that every new terrible idea is no big deal
- Makes a show of introducing Jess to TJ and acting like she's the best mom ever despite his obvious discomfort
-Makes several statements to Lorelai to the effect that Luke has been cleaning up after her for her entire life and finding her jobs, apartments, helping her out financially, getting rid of dangerous men
- To quote Jess verbatim: "I don't like this guy. I don't like any of the guys. She doesn't give a crap what I think. I've got nineteen years of proof to back me up". She always chose her men over him, no matter how terrible they were.
- Luke is involved in sussing out Jess's whereabouts and living situation, giving him a place to sleep (thanks to Lorelai), offering him money to fix his car. Liz is not involved in any of that and doesn't offer. She signed off on being the parent a long time ago.
- Liz shows back up for the wedding and immediately manipulates Luke into helping arrange the wedding, selling jewelry in the diner, inviting strippers to the diner...when she's around, he ends up doing her bidding almost automatically. Zero boundaries.
- There's more references to her sketchy self-employment and the many times Luke watched it fall apart.
- Luke's the one who goes to New York, finds Jess, has him go back to Stars Hollow as a favor to him. No comment from Liz on his lifestyle or offering him a place to stay. Luke is the only one who fights with him about it. Luke's also the one to give him romantic advice as Liz is not involved in that at all.
- Liz reveals her romantic history right before the wedding. Second husband was okay, third husband was not and died mysteriously, boyfriend after third husband was also okay. This is also the only wedding she's not been drunk at.
- Liz assumes Jess broke Rory's heart even though she has no idea who that is. Lorelai steps in and defends Jess, saying it just didn't work out.
- Luke is roped into taking care of Liz and TJ for several weeks after they are in a car accident and following them around on the Ren Faire circuit. I only mention this because he is, as always, forever her caretaker.
- Liz and TJ get into a screaming fight early in S5 and ruin Luke and Lorelai 's date.
- Sometime in S5 or S6 Liz mentions that she's never made dinner, not once. Jess is around 20 years old at this time period. How did he eat?
-Liz manipulates Luke into letting TJ work at the construction at Lorelai's house. She cries and throws a tantrum until he gives in. TJ somehow knocks a big hole in the upstairs of Lorelai's house.
-Liz does not show up to Jess's open house, nor does she ever mention it (or him at all) afterwards. Luke shows up to support him and tells him he's proud of him. Mom can't be bothered.
-When Liz finds out she's pregnant with Doula, she casually mentions to Luke (in public!) that she binge drank while she was pregnant with Jess. Luke isn't shocked by this.
-Liz claims to Luke that TJ abandoned her after she told him she was pregnant. Luke goes to TJ and TJ reveals that Liz got violent and threw half the household objects at his head and kicked him out when he was excited about it. Luke goes to Liz afterwards and she rants that if she stays with TJ her kid's going to end up ruined and she'll have to send it away. Luke is the one who reminds her that Jess turned out OK and that he's actually doing great (not that Liz has any knowledge of this at all or should receive any credit for it). Liz and TJ reconcile.
- Liz and TJ invite Luke over for dinner in early S7. Their stove is broken. He has to make dinner himself (because of course he does). Despite formerly being supportive, they tell him Lorelai was bad for him and Liz says some mumbo jumbo about how they were never meant to be together. Luke runs into Lorelai at the grocery store and says the whole thing was a bad idea and he'll be civil to her, but he's not interested in a personal relationship again. Lorelai basically doesn't go anywhere in town she could run into him for the next six months (okay, the romantic advice isn't terrible per se but Liz is seriously inconsistent on this issue).
- Luke attends Doula's birth. Liz is excited about April being a free babysitter.
- Liz dumps Doula on Luke at work a few weeks after she is born because she "needs a break" and disappears for hours.
-Liz and TJ invite themselves to stay at Luke's apartment some weeks later, shortly after Lorelai and Christopher have broken up. Now Liz is all excited about Lorelai and Luke getting back together (pick a lane, woman).
-In the series finale, Liz tries to dump Doula on Luke at work AGAIN (how often does she do this?) Luke stops her before she can leave, and makes her take the baby with her.
-Liz and TJ are mercifully offscreen for AYITL. Jess fulfills the role of being Luke's sounding board and attempting to comfort him when he has problems with Lorelai and there are already enough quirky townies, so she isn't needed. TJ and Liz are involved in a mysterious vegetable cult that they eventually get kicked out of, which provides a reason for Jess to come into town every so often. He's now the support to his family that Luke used to be on his own. It's implied that this is not the first time TJ and Liz have gotten involved in a cult over the past few years
My point to all of this is that Liz is not stable, she's not a decent person, she has not "redeemed" herself, she may be clean and sober but she's still horribly selfish, unreliable, and a pain in Luke's ass. There's a bunch of stuff that is implied in Jess's behavior that indicates she was a horrible mom, but we don't get the full picture until she shows up. The full picture is...a lot worse.

Chapter 17 - Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
You didn’t remember much about returning to the cabin last night as upon arriving back in Butte you and Spencer had indulged in one two many drinks at The Eldo before finally stumbling home well after midnight.
Judging by the fact your body was sore and you were naked, you’d probably had sex more than once and your head was throbbing when you opened your eyes, but you felt at peace.
Spencer stirred next to you, pulling you closer to his body and kissing your messy hair.
“I swore I’d never drink that much again.” He grumbled.
“I feel like I’ve been hit by a freight train.” You agreed.
“I think that was more my fault than the alcohol. I’m fairly certain we had sex at least five times. And from memory it got pretty rough.” He pulled you even closer.
“Worth it.” You smiled sleepily, resting your head on his chest. “I feel like shit, but I also feel on top of the fucking world.”
“Hmm, me too.” He agreed, nuzzling his face against your head.
“Don’t get excited, I don’t think my body can handle anymore sex right now.”
“Trust me when I say I don’t even think I have the energy to get it up.” He chuckled.
“That is music to my ears right now.” You giggled.
“Give it time, I’m sure there’s only so long I can lay next to a beautiful, naked woman before it happens of its own accord.”
“Fair enough.” You giggled again. “I can handle that. But I never want to drink again in my life.”
“Agreed.” Spencer exhaled before adding. “You know, until next time.”
You snuggled into him, wrapping your arm around his waist and slinging one leg over his. In that moment you felt invincible.
***
McGill’s Diner on Elk Avenue had a traffic camera positioned between the ground and first floor windows, capturing every car that passed by. It was the same camera that had witnessed the little blue Nissan purchased by Andrew Burnett in Franklin County, Virginia, drive up and down the street multiple times over the last week.
With no better place to start, Luke parked up at the curb and headed inside. He was under strict instructions from Prentiss that he was to not treat this like a federal investigation, they had no idea what they were dealing with and they didn’t want to alert the townsfolk to FBI presence. He was simply a concerned friend.
To stave off temptation, he left his creds in the hire vehicle he’d driven the forty minutes from Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport. He did however keep his firearm visible in his holster on his hip.
A little bell chimed above the door as he entered the diner. It was late enough that the breakfast rush was over and early enough for the lunchtime crowd not to have surfaced yet so it was reasonably quiet. There was an older couple in a booth over the back and a younger man and woman sitting at the counter.
Luke made his way over to where a guy around your age was fixing a pot of coffee behind the counter. He looked up when he heard Luke approached and offered him a friendly smile. He wore a green flannel shirt over a black tee which had some kind of stain down it.
“Hi there,” he put down the coffee pot and gave Luke his full attention. “Can I get you a table?”
“No, thanks. I’m actually looking for some people. My friends, I think they might be here.” Luke dove straight in.
“Sure, I might be able to help. Most people come through here even if they're just in town for a day or two. Our coffee is pretty good.”
“Is this your place?”
“No, my dads.” The man wiped his hand on his jeans before extending it towards Luke. “Jesse McGill.”
“Luke Alvez.” Luke shook his hand. “So like I said, I’m looking for my friends. Rose and Andrew Burnett. I can show you pictures if you like?”
“No, that’s ok.” Jesse rolled his lip between his teeth. “I know them. Well, I know her better than him, never really spoken to him but I’ve seen him around.”
“They still in town?” Luke asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Uh, I guess so. Haven’t seen them for a few days so I can’t be sure. People come and go, you know? This place is a bit of a tourist trap.” Jesse shrugged.
“A ski resort isn’t much of a tourist trap in spring time.” Luke narrowed his eyes on Jesse, feeling as though the man was hiding something from him. “You know where they’re staying?”
Jesse straightened his back, running a hand through his thick beard while he contemplated how to answer that. Luke could tell he knew exactly where they were staying but for whatever reason, didn’t want to share the information. He knew all it would take to get it out of him would be to flash his FBI badge, but of course Prentiss had ordered him not to.
Jesse was mulling over what you’d told him the other night about Rose not being your real name and not really being married and now a stranger had shown up looking for you, that couldn’t be good.
Something happened and we had to leave our jobs, our homes, that’s what you’d said to him. Were you running from someone, someone like this man in front of him? He didn’t want to risk your safety or betray your trust. He didn’t get a good vibe from this Luke Alvez character.
“No, sorry I don’t.” He shrugged again. “Like I say, haven’t seen them in a few days, they may have already left town.”
Luke wasn’t buying any of this. Jesse knew exactly where you and Spencer were but he wasn’t going to tell Luke. Why, Luke didn’t know, but without his FBI creds to back him up he knew he wasn’t going to get much further. Maybe he’d reassess, call Prentiss and tell her that no one was talking to him and he needed some authority on his side.
“Well, you also said most people come through here right? So I’ll take that table now and a cup of that coffee and I’ll wait.” Luke smiled smugly at him and subtly put his hands on his hips to draw attention to his firearm.
Jesse glanced down at it and the fear he’d felt for your safety only doubled. What the hell kind of trouble were you in and how could he alert you to it without arousing suspicion? For now he nodded, motioning Luke towards a table and following him over with the pot of coffee. He left him alone after that but kept a watchful eye over the stranger in his diner.
Luke pulled out his phone and texted Prentiss to let her know that he’d arrived in the Butte but hadn’t had much luck yet. He sipped the coffee, which he couldn’t deny was pretty incredible and stared at the door as if it would magically open and you would stroll in.
He was only sitting there for about a minute before a young girl with bright red hair who had been sitting at the counter slid into the booth opposite him. She had a curious look in her large green eyes as she leant on the table with her elbows.
“I know Andrew Burnett pretty well.” She cut to the chase.
“Really?” Luke cocked his eyebrow at her.
“We hooked up a few times.” She shrugged, her words causing Luke to pull a face.
“You and S…Andrew?”
“Yep.”
“How old are you?” Luke’s brow furrowed heavily, thinking there was no way Spencer would sleep with this girl.
“Twenty seven.” She sat straight and puffed out her chest but Luke’s disbelieving look caused her to huff. “Fine, I’m twenty two.”
“Yeah, uh, no offence but I’m fairly certain he wouldn’t sleep with a twenty two year old.” Luke clucked.
“Well, he did. More than once.” She smirked smugly. “I promised I wouldn’t say anything because of his little wifey, but he couldn’t keep his hands off of me.”
“Wifey as in Rose?”
“Uh huh, between you and me she seems kinda like a stick in the mud.”
“That stick in the mud is my friend.” Luke scowled at her.
“Don’t get me wrong, he’s no better. She might be boring but he has some anger issues.” She picked at one of her nails.
“Anger issues?” Luke frowned, it wasn’t the first time someone had inferred that about Spencer recently.
“Yep. I think he controls Rose, she always seems a little timid round him. And then there was the time he practically threw me against a wall.”
“He…are you sure?” Luke was frowning so hard he felt a headache pinching at his temples.
“Yeah that’s not the kind of thing you forget. He couldn’t keep it up, tried to blame me for it. So I told him he probably couldn’t keep it up because he was old…no offence.”
“None taken.” Luke pulled a face.
“Anyway so he just freaks, gets me up against the wall and yells in my face and I swear he’s going to hurt me.” She finished with a shake of her head.
“Did he?”
“No, but I think he wanted to.”
Luke pulled out his phone and got up a photograph of Spencer which he turned to show the girl.
“Is this the man you’re talking about?”
“Yep, that’s him.” She nodded. “You say you know him, you must know what he’s like.”
“Yeah, see that’s the thing, I don’t know him to be an angry or violent man. So what I’m wondering is maybe you had a little crush on him and he rebuffed you and so you’re making up stories to tarnish him and make yourself feel better.” Luke picked up the coffee mug and lifted it to his lips.
“I’m not five.” She spat. “I know what happened. I was just trying to help but if you don’t need-”
“Ok, Mary, that’s enough now.” She was cut off by a hand on her shoulder and she looked up to see Jesse standing over her. “You can leave now.”
She rolled her eyes and huffed, sliding out of the booth and sulking away. Jesse soon took her place, sitting down opposite Luke and exhaling through his nose.
“Look, I don’t make a habit of agreeing with her, but I think she might be telling you the truth.” He chewed on the inside of his cheek. “Rose told me something bad happened to them and that she had get away and when you strolled in here looking for them, I thought maybe you were the something bad, you know?”
Luke nodded slowly, sitting forward in his seat.
“But you don’t think so now?” Luke narrowed his eyes on Jesse.
“No.” Jesse shook his head. “You’re a cop right? Shoulda noticed that before, you scream law enforcement.”
“FBI.” Luke whispered so no one else would hear. “I’m not here on official capacity though, I worked with Y/N and Spencer, they’re my friends and I really am just trying to find them.”
“Y/N and Spencer?” Jesse frowned. “She told me Rose wasn’t her real name but she wouldn’t tell me what it was. They’re FBI?”
“They were, until a while ago when they just skipped down.” Luke ran his fingers through his hair, knowing he shouldn’t be telling Jesse any of this. “You said you thought that kid was telling the truth? Why?”
Jesse exhaled again, looking sceptically at Luke as though he still wasn’t sure he trusted him. He ran his fingers through his beard and pulled a face that Luke couldn’t place.
“When I first met Rose…Y/N, she told me her “husband” was a drunken bully. I got the impression she was scared of him. I asked her if he hurt her and she said no but she did say that he had a temper. He’s a skinny dude but there’s something about him that makes me think he wouldn’t hesitate in kicking someone’s ass. He doesn’t strike me as stable, if that makes sense.” Jesse looked uncomfortable sharing this information, like he was betraying you in doing so.
“It makes absolutely zero sense, but if you knew Spencer Reid, it wouldn't make sense to you either.” Luke shook his head.
“I’m scared for her.” Jesse admitted, leaning on the table and lowering his voice to barely a whisper. “They’re staying on Gothic Avenue, big cabin right at the end. Come out of here and go straight up 4th, take the second right onto Gothic. Keep going for about a half mile and it's the big one on the corner right before the large rec.”
“You did the right thing.” Luke smiled at him, reaching into his pocket and subtly sliding his card across the table which Jesse quickly took. “If you see either of them, please call me.”
“Sure.” Jesse nodded, soon sliding out of his chair and walking away.
Luke downed the rest of the coffee and got to his feet, making quick work of getting outside and back into his hired car and following Jesse’s instructions, drove towards the Gothic Avenue cabin.
But he wasn’t the only one on that particular mission and he didn’t notice the redhead following him outside and heading the same way on foot.
***
It was just before lunch time, after some extremely lazy sex that you finally dragged yourself out of bed, your hunger getting the better of you. But you soon came to find the cupboards were empty.
Spencer bribed you with sexual favours you probably would have gotten anyway, to go down to Scout’s as he physically couldn’t prise himself away from the bed. Reluctantly you’d agreed, taking a quick shower to wash the stench of sex off of you before dressing and heading outside.
You got about a third of the way down Gothic Avenue when you suddenly felt as though you were being watched. The hairs on the back of your neck stood to attention and you felt something was wrong in your gut. You picked up your pace, partially wishing you’d had the forethought to bring the Colt with you.
Just before you made it to 4th Street a hand clamped down on your shoulder. You were trained for this. You knew exactly what to do.
Without even so much as taking a breath, you spun quickly on your heels and sent your fist flying into the face of your potential attacker. They stumbled backwards with a loud groan of pain, hands flying to where you’d just punched them in the nose.
“Jesus Christ, Y/N!” He yelped, glaring at you as he held his nose.
You stared at the man you’d hit wide eyed as the air felt like it escaped your lungs.
“L-Luke?” You stuttered, wobbling on your feet. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
“Nice to see you too.” He grumbled. “I should have known better than to sneak up on you.”
“What the fuck are you doing here?” You repeated.
“Where’s Spencer?” He let go of his nose and dropped his hands to his sides.
“Don’t know what you’re talking about.” You didn’t miss a beat.
“Sorry, I meant Andrew. Andrew Burnett, your husband.” He nodded his head towards the wedding band.
“Goddamnit.” You growled, pinching the bridge of your nose. “How did you find us?”
“We’re profilers, Y/N. Come on.” He rolled his eyes. “Garcia found Reid’s car. We tracked you to a used car lot and the car you bought with Spencer’s fake licence. We put out an APB on the Nissan and found it had been picked up on cameras in this town several times.”
“Are the rest of the team here?” You folded your arms across your chest.
“No, just me. We’re shorthanded, remember?”
“Good. You need to leave, you have no idea what you’ve walked into.”
“Y/N,” he softened, stepping towards you. “Has Spencer done something? Has he threatened you?”
“What? Why would you think that?” You scoffed.
“I spoke to some people in town and they seem to think he’s this violent, angry man.”
“Who told you that?” You frowned at him.
“That doesn’t matter. You need to tell me what’s going on. You understand that this looks bad, right?” Luke pleaded with you.
“We just wanted to get away. Spencer’s been struggling since prison and I was feeling stifled at the BAU. So we decided it might be a good idea to just get away from it all for a while.” You tried to insist but you knew Luke wasn’t buying it.
“I might believe that if it wasn’t for the burner phones and fake IDs and burnt out cars.” He spat. “You were an FBI agent for a long time, you know what that looks like, don’t you?”
It looks like two criminals on the run. It looks exactly like what it is.
“What are you implying, Luke?” You frowned heavily at him.
“If Spencer has done something, to you or to anyone else, you can tell me, Y/N. You can tell me anything.” He looked deep into your eyes and you felt for a brief moment that bond between the two of you.
You could tell him anything, you knew that much. Luke Alvez had done nothing but stick by your side through everything and you knew this would be no different.
You reached up and fiddled with the rose gold heart pendant around your neck. Did you love Spencer enough to protect him from this? Or was this finally your way out?
***
Spencer threw the pillow over his head and groaned deeply as a heavy knock sounded on the front door. The alcohol from last night that still seemed to be drowning his brain cells meant it felt like whoever was knocking was doing so directly against his skull.
His plan had been not to leave this bed all day. His drive to and from South Dakota plus an exuberant amount of sex had drained his energy and the scotch he’d consumed left him feeling dizzy.
The knock came again, followed in quick succession by the doorbell. Whoever it was clearly didn’t plan to go away easily. He groaned, his head spinning as he forced himself out of the comfort of the plush bed. His eyes were blurry and made trying to find any semblance of clothes almost impossible.
As a third knock sounded he managed to locate his boxers and stumbled trying to put them on. His legs wobbled frantically as he slowly crept from the bedroom and down the stairs.
His stomach lurched as he walked and he briefly thought he might throw up but thankfully it passed. He continued through the living room towards the door as the doorbell rang once more.
“Jeez. Alright I’m coming.” He belched rather unceremoniously. “Jesus I’m still drunk.”
He threw open the door, keeping hold of it to help steady himself. He blinked a few times against the bright red assault of colour on his retinas before focusing on her face. He groaned, suddenly wishing he’d made an effort to put more clothes on and that he wasn’t standing here in just his boxers with her on his front porch.
“Fucking hell, what do you want?” He leant against the door jamb, not trusting his wobbly legs to stand unaided.
“Well that’s just rude.” Mary smirked at him and there was something menacing to it. “I just want to talk.”
“We have nothing to talk about.” He stood back up, moving to close the door in her face only in his state she was faster and she shoved her hands against the wood to stop it from closing.
“Oh I think we have a lot to talk about.” Her smirk grew. “Why don’t you invite me in, Spencer Reid?”
***
“You can tell me anything.” Luke repeated when you were silent for some time.
You rolled your eyes and scoffed.
“Oh please, Spencer couldn’t hurt a fly and you know it.” You shook your head.
“So he didn’t give you those bruises on your neck?” Luke looked quietly smug.
You unfolded your arms and one of your hands went to your throat. You’d gotten used to them being there if truth be told and didn’t think much of them most of the time.
“It’s not what it looks like.” You brushed your fingers over the bruises.
“Oh really? Because to me it looks like he tried to strangle you.” Luke hissed.
“Fucking christ, Alvez,” you spat back, grinding your teeth furiously. “You really want me to stand here and tell you I like it when he puts his hand around my throat when he fucks me?”
You swore you saw the exact moment Luke’s heart shattered in his chest. His eyes softened and he stumbled backwards, his mouth falling open as a pain washed across his face. You instantly regretted your harsh choice of words but it was too late.
“You’re…you’re sleeping with him?” He couldn’t hide the upset from his voice despite how hard he tried.
“Yeah.” You nodded. “We’re, uh, together I guess.”
“You are aware he’s sleeping with some young redhead, right?” Spencer spat.
“What? How do you know about Mary?” You glared at him.
“I met her! She told me that Spencer got aggressive with her when he couldn’t get it up. I didn’t believe her at first but then that McGill guy said you’d told him that your “husband” was a bully.” Luke sounded exasperated.
“You talked to Jesse?” You spat. “Luke, you had no right! You had no right to follow us here in the first place. We’re happy here, just let it go.”
“Happy? Happy?” He scoffed, stepping towards you. “You’ve got a fucking trail of bruises around your neck and I’m starting to think they aren’t the only ones.”
Before you could reply, Luke was grabbing one of your hands and pushing the sleeve of the pink wool sweater up your arm revealing more finger shaped bruises circling your wrist.
“Goddamnit, conejito, really? You’re happy? You’re happy being abused?” He dropped your arm and stepped back, sadly shaking his head.
“It’s not abuse, jeez. We like rough sex Luke, so what?”
“Oh my god, please stop talking about you and Reid’s sex life.”
“Are you jealous?” You scowled at him. “Are you jealous because he’s got all you ever wanted?”
He frowned at you, looking at you like he didn’t recognise you anymore, like he was standing in front of a stranger. He took a step back, shaking his head in disappointment.
“Maybe once this is what I wanted, yeah. But you aren’t the same person anymore, are you? You’re not my conejito.” He rolled his lip between his teeth.
“I was never your conejito, Luke.” You spat. “You need to leave, you shouldn’t be here.”
“I’m not going anywhere until you explain to me what’s going on. What has Spencer done? What are you scared of, Y/N?” Luke begged.
“Spencer has done nothing but love me! We wanted a fresh start, away from the BAU and all the bullshit. I don’t need you anymore Luke, I don’t need you protecting me. Let me go, for the love of god just let me go!” You raised your voice.
“I think something happened,” he stepped closer to you. “I think Spencer did something really bad and you’re covering for him because you’re scared. You don’t need to be scared, Y/N. Just tell me what he’s done and I can help you.”
He reached for you but you slapped his hand away.
“Don’t touch me. Spencer has done nothing wrong, Jesus just because you’re an FBI agent doesn’t mean you always have to think like one. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. And in this case it’s as simple as we wanted to get away and we knew we’d never be able to do that as Y/N Y/L/N and Spencer Reid.” You growled at him, your back well and truly up.
“You’re lying.” He bit back. “I know you better than you know yourself and I know when you’re lying. We’re the best goddamn profilers in the world and I swear to you, Y/N, we will find out what he’s done and we will come for him. Don’t let yourself become collateral damage.”
“Burden of proof.” You shrugged, a wry smile on your face. You remembered so well having a conversation with Spencer in his apartment about the same subject not so long ago. “You say you’re the best goddamn profiliers in the world, but so are me and Spencer. And if, hypothetically, he'd done something, do you really think he’d leave behind any evidence?”
“You could save yourself a lot of trouble if you just tell me what I need to know.” Luke continued to plead with you.
“You need to know nothing, except for the fact Spencer and I love each other and we are in this together until the bitter end. So why don’t you hop back on the jet and leave us the fuck alone.” You spat so venomously that Luke was actually a little scared of you.
“You’ve changed.” He shook his head sadly.
“And you never will.” You pushed past him on the sidewalk, deciding to forgo Scout’s in lieu of going home.
Your blood was boiling in your veins as you marched back towards the cabin, furious at the BAU for tracking you down, angry at Luke for coming all the way out here.
But it was only the beginning.
***
“What do you want from me?” Spencer sat on the couch while Mary stood over him, wishing he weren’t still tipsy and clouded by last night's scotch.
“I want to know why two FBI agents are hiding out in our town using fake names.” She folded her arms across her chest.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He tried to insist but he wasn’t able to control his facial expressions the way he normally would.
“Does the name Luke Alvez mean anything to you?” She scrutinised him and Spencer fought with his expression not to give anything anyway but the scotch was in control.
“No.” He shook his head, swallowing thickly.
“Hmm, I don’t believe you.” She spoke in a sickly sweet tone. “Because I met him and he seems pretty convinced that you and Rose…or should I say Y/N are FBI agents who just dropped their whole lives and ran off without a trace.”
She met Luke? Luke is here? Why the fuck is Luke here? What the hell is happening?
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” He folded his arms across his bare chest.
“Let’s try this again,” she came closer to him. “And I swear to god if you’re not honest with me…”
“What? You'll do what?” He scoffed at her.
“I’ll tell everyone the truth about who you are.” She shrugged.
“And you think they’d believe you?” He chuckled. “You think they will believe a story as convoluted as this? Sweetheart, they will think you’re crazy.”
“Maybe. Maybe not.” Mary shrugged. “Fine, I’ll tell everyone I know that you sexually assaulted me.”
Spencer stared at her in utter horror of what she was saying but she looked nothing by smug. His heart started hammering so hard in his chest he felt even sicker than he already had done. He searched for a sign she was bluffing but saw none.
He was taken back to an interrogation room at a woman’s correctional facility. He could see her so clearly in front of him, Cat Adams telling him she was pregnant with his child. He could hear her wicked voice in his ears.
I had Lindsey dose you in Mexico. You lost time. And I gave her very specific instructions to get you in the mood.
“W-what?” He stammered. “That’s not the kind of thing you lie about.”
“Tell me the truth then.” She shrugged.
“I’m not telling you shit.” He shook his head, pushing himself up to his wobbly legs.
“Well then, I guess I’ll go. Who should I start by telling? My dad? My brothers?” She started towards the door but Spencer quickly moved and grabbed her roughly by the wrist, somehow able not to fall flat on his face.
“Listen you little bitch,” he shook her by her arm, growling in her face. “Do you have any idea how many people are actually assaulted every day? How many don’t report it because they’re scared they won’t be believed? And you want to use their real pain for your own sick gain?”
“You know you’re not helping yourself right? If you bruise me it’ll only make my story seem more believable.” She glanced at his hand on her wrist and he quickly let her go. “And don’t think I haven’t seen the bruises on your lovely wife. I’m sure she would back up my story.”
“The only story she would back up is the one where you’re a desperate little whore who shamelessly wanted to fuck a man you perceived to married.” He snapped at her.
“Well I guess we’ll see won’t we? Who’s going to believe the strange out of towner over the young, innocent girl.” She pouted.
Stop being the boy who cried rape, Spencie. It’s not a good look.
“What do you want? Why do you care who I really am? Fine, if it’s going to shut you up, yes, my name is Spencer Reid. I was an FBI agent and so was Y/N. We changed our names and left town. Why do you even care?” He sighed in exasperation.
“I guess FBI agents make pretty good money, right?” She mused and Spencer felt his stomach coil into knots at the insinuation.
“That’s what this is about? You want money?” He scoffed.
“I told you I want out of this town. I work three jobs and I am nowhere close to having enough. Finding out your little secret is the best thing that could have happened to me. So if you don’t give me what I want, I will disgrace the former FBI agent Spencer Reid and tell everyone that you raped me. Ten grand should do it.” Her smirk grew tenfold and Spencer felt the anger rising throughout his whole body.
But his brain was still clouded in a thick fog of alcohol. If he’d been at full capacity he would have easily been able to figure a way out of this, but right now all he could think of was killing Mary. The only problem with that was his guns and hunting knife were upstairs.
He could strangle her to death, feeling as she took her last breath. But he knew better, even in his state, that killing someone close to home would only come back to bite him in the ass. He’d been so careful up until now and he couldn’t ruin everything because of this stupid bitch. There had to be another way.
Mary was a wolf in sheep’s clothing, much like he was. He’d tricked everyone in this town into thinking he was just the mild mannered Andrew Burnett here with his wife to escape the big city. But in reality he was a violent killer, an injustice collector of sorts. Maybe Mary was his karma and now was his time to pay up.
“Let’s just talk about this, please?” He begged her, eyes flickering somewhere off to the side as he sensed a movement by the kitchen.
“No, no more talking.” She shook her head, clearly not noticing he was distracted. “You pay me now or I will go straight to the cops.”
If she heard the sound of the gun being cocked, it was too late. And then suddenly the reverberation of a single gunshot filled the room and the bullet pierced straight through the back of Mary’s head, exiting between her eyes and continuing into the wall next to the front door.
The last sound Mary made was a small gasp as she collapsed on the floor in a pool of her own blood at Spencer’s feet. The shock was written all across his face as he looked up at you, still holding the smoking gun in your hand.
You tucked it in your waistband and strolled closer to Spencer whose mouth was hanging open and wide eyes glared at you in a stupor.
“W-what did you…? Why did you?” He croaked out as you stepped closer, not a single hint of remorse in your eyes.
“Karma’s a bitch.” You shrugged simply. “And so was she.”
Hahaha, this is about you.
Beware, beware, be sceptical,
Of their smiles, their smiles of plated gold.
Deceit so natural,
But a wolf in sheep's clothing is more than a warning.
Baa baa, black sheep, have you any soul?
No sir, by the way, what the hell are morals?
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick,
Jill's a little whore, and her alibis are dirty tricks.
So could you,
Tell me how you're sleeping easy,
How you're only thinking of yourself.
Show me how you justify,
Telling all your lies like second nature.
Listen, mark my words, one day (one day),
You will pay, you will pay.
Karma's gonna come collect your debt.
Aware, aware, you stalk your prey,
With criminal mentality.
You sink your teeth into the people you depend on,
Infecting everyone, you're quite the problem.
Fee-fi-fo-fum, you better run and hide,
I smell the blood of a petty little coward.
Jack be lethal, Jack be slick,
Jill will leave you lonely, dying in a filthy ditch.
So could you,
Tell me how you're sleeping easy,
How you're only thinking of yourself.
Show me how you justify,
Telling all your lies like second nature.
Listen, mark my words, one day (one day),
You will pay, you will pay.
Karma's gonna come collect your debt.
Maybe you'll change,
Abandon all your wicked ways,
Make amends and start anew again.
Maybe you'll see,
All the wrongs you did to me,
And start all over, start all over again.
Who am I kidding?
Now, let's not get overzealous here,
You've always been a huge piece of shit.
If I could kill you, I would,
But it's frowned upon in all fifty states.
Having said that, burn in hell, yeah.
Oh, oh, oh.
So tell me how you're sleeping easy,
How you're only thinking of yourself.
Show me how you justify,
Telling all your lies like second nature.
Listen, mark my words, one day (one day),
You will pay, you will pay.
Karma's gonna come collect your debt.
Karma's gonna come collect your debt.
Karma's gonna come collect your debt.

secret - luke danes
Tumblr media
luke danes x fem!reader
summary: lorelai oversteps and luke reveals your relationship
warnings: secret relationship, reader is younger than luke but no specific age is given, tiny bit of angst perhaps?
word count: 1.4k
“coffee?” luke asked, and you pushed your mug towards him with a smile.
“thanks.”
you were sitting at a table at luke’s diner when you overheard lorelai and rory talking about him,
the man oblivious as he went to fetch their order.
“do you think he’s dated anyone since rachel? lorelai said to her daughter in a hushed voice.
“I don’t know,” rory shrugged. “where would he meet anyone? he’s either here or in his apartment.”
“maybe he has a secret life. maybe he’s got a little chippy stowed away in mount pilot,” lorelai suggested, and rory laughed through her nose. “well we’ll know eventually.”
“i think he’s a bachelor for life.”
“and i think there’s someone for everyone,” the younger gilmore disagreed, before they began talking about music.
you tuned out the rest of their conversation, as it no longer pertained to your boyfriend. you and luke had been dating for about three months, and by some miracle had managed to keep it a secret; not an easy task in stars hollow. you couldn’t change the channel on the television in this town without someone finding out about it.
you were keeping the relationship hidden while it was new, since you were new to town and you were also a bit younger than luke. you had only moved here a little under six months ago; you didn’t need the added attention of a relationship while you were still settling into town, and luke respected that.
once the gilmore girls left, you went over to the counter to get another coffee to go, and luke smiled as he turned around and noticed it was you.
“hey, another coffee?” he asked.
“to go please,” you nodded, and he handed it to you, exchanging it for the mug you’d had. “call me later?” you whispered, though the diner was pretty empty, and he nodded, before you walked out of the store.
it was a few days later, and you were walking into the diner to grab a bite to eat. you put your headphones on but didn’t turn on your walkman so you could still hear as you walked inside and sat in the corner, luke holding up a finger to let you know he would be with you in a minute. you heard the door open and watched lorelai walk in and sit at the counter across from luke. you felt guilty for eavesdropping, but soon realized what the conversation was about and decided it did (slightly) pertain to you.
“hey, good party yesterday,” he greeted her, and you remembered him mentioning last night that he’d gone to help her fix something at a party her club was hosting.
“yeah, not bad”, she agreed with a smile.
“i like the new look it was very high class substitute teacher.”
“exactly what i was going for.”
“coffee?” he asked.
“oh, to go,” she answered, and luke switched the mug he’d placed in front of her for a paper cup. “hey luke, i feel a little weird even mentioning this to you-“ she began.
“what?”
“well yesterday i saw you talking to ava you know she’s in my booster club?”
“yeah i know who she is,” he replied, and you wondered what she was getting at.
“so anyhow, i saw you guys talking alone and it seemed kind of private and she mentioned earlier that you didn’t make her you know - gag,” she emphasized the word before continuing. “so I just figured you guys were making some sort of plans to hang out and see the thing is i just think it would be a little weird if you started dating a chilton mom.” you sat dumbfounded on the other side of the diner and luke raised his eyebrows slightly as she rambled on. “i know i have no right to say anything to you, but it’s just if you did date her - well i’m in the booster club with her which means i’ll hear things and i don’t know it’s just- i’d like to keep that chilton life separate from my stars hollow life so if there’s anyway that you could not date her, that would be really great,” she finished with a smile and a tap of her fingers on the counter top.
you sat in disbelief in your seat, still not daring to look their way as you wondered if it might have been better to not listen to the conversation after all.
“boy i tell you, you’ve got nerve,” he replied, sounding less than impressed with her speech.
“okay, uh w-“ she stuttered. “well i know this is your private business-“
“it is my private business.”
“you don’t see any validity to my side at all?” she asked.
“i am a grown man. you cannot tell me who to date to date,” he insisted.
“i’m not telling you who to date, i’m telling you who not to date,” she argued.
“you can’t tell me that either!”
“look-“ she began but he interrupted her.
“i will date who i like and if that screws with your plans, then i’m sorry - and if you don’t wanna hear things then don’t listen.”
“but-“
“if you don’t like it, you can just deal with it!” he said, and you weren’t sure you had ever heard him use that tone before.
“okay! i’ll just deal with it!,” she replied.
“good.”
“i just thought that if something was going to affect our friendship in some way that you might care about that because if the situation was reversed then i would care about that but that’s me! so go ahead date her!” she said, standing up, obviously offended. “marry her! make her mrs.backwards baseball cap - live happily ever after. see if i care!” lorelai flapped her arm around as she began walking out of the diner. “and by the way, I wasn’t asking her out,” luke informed her. “i was giving her directions for the quickest way back to hartford. it was very romantic. i said you take a right at deerfield and you catch the I-5 and you take it south. oh man, hot stuff!” he explained.
“that is so typical of you!”
“what?” he said, and you could recognize by his voice that he was rolling his eyes.
“that is not the quickest way back to hartford. everybody knows that you take main to cherry to linwood and then grab the 11. everybody knows that luke - everybody apparently but you!” she said, and her voice wavered as if she was getting emotional.
“and just for the record, not that it’s any of your business at all, i’m seeing someone. don’t worry she’s not one of the snobs in your chilton club so you won’t have to hear about it!”
you were glad you didn’t have a coffee yet or you probably would spat it out in surprise, and you wished more than anything that you had been able to see the look or lorelais face. you had nothing against her, but you did agree she had severely overstepped here.
“well that’s great! i’m so happy for you!” she spat angrily, and stormed out of the diner. thankfully there hadn’t been many people inside eating to hear the conversation, or luke’s confession of having a girlfriend. you decided you weren’t as concerned with people finding out anymore. you were happy with luke and that’s what was most important.
“hey,” luke greeted quietly as he appeared next to your table with a mug and coffee pot.
“hey,” you smiled up at him.
“how much did you hear?” he asked sheepishly, pouring you drink.
“all of it,” you admitted. “i’m sorry.”
“you don’t have to apologize. i’m sorry i told her without asking i just-“
“hey,” you put your hand on his softly. “i’m not mad. i guess the cats kinda out of the bag though.”
“no one knows it’s you,” he pointed out.
“it’s a small town - how long do you think it’ll take them to figure it out?” you laughed.
“yeah i guess so.”
“so, this chilton mom-“ you teased.
“don’t start,” he rolled his eyes, but smiled. “you’re really okay with people knowing about us?” he asked, and you nodded.
“yeah, i am,” you decided. “are you?”
“yeah, i guess i am,” he agreed, and you smiled.
“good.”
“good,” you beamed, and luke walked back behind the counter. you thought he had gone back to work, but he returned with another mug of coffee and sat down across from you.
“mind if i join you?” he teased, and you were surprised.
“are you…taking a break?”
“yeah,” he agreed.
“you? luke danes? are taking a break-“
“shut up before i change my mind?” he said playfully and you smiled, sipping your coffee.
“deal.”

waddup guys, here are some designs i did of the midnight burger crew. the mucklewains are there, but since they are wave forms, you cant see them. and its totally not because i lowkey forgot (they do have designs i just never got around to drawing them)
but here are some fun facts about how i designed them if anyone is interested:
starting from the left, i mentioned earlier that i based leif of luke from gilmore girls. they both lowkey have the same vibe to me but i only consume gilmore girls in bits and pieces so i could be reading that vibe very wrong.
gloria is based of my mom.
i have a whole post planned about how gloria is important to me as a podcast enjoyer of color, especially as a latine person, so ill gush about her another time. but she just remined me a lot of my own mother and i kinda wanted to honor that
ava was based off of lyla from the spiderverse movies. like with leif, i think both ava and lyla have the same vibe.
Also i kinda deviated from the trend of ava in more academic clothing since i wanted here to fit in the role of diner regular and i feel that the diner regulars are the type of people who would get up and drive to their dennys in their pjs.
casper was actually hard to design since i don't have a wide cataloge of plus size middle aged men in my mental library (for shame).
It end up being a combination of shane from stardew valley and the actor sean astin ( he was in lord of the rings ((im planning to watch the trillogy this week so no spoilers please)))
I also headcannon that he wears sketchers.
leif wears timbs, gloria wears white sneakers, and i almost gave ava crocs but it didn't feel right
and thats it. um thanks for reading this far. i am lowkey scared of posting my art. i plan on making more and posting it on here and my instagram but thats a post for another day. good night and dont stay up for too long. bye

There was five things to know about you.
The first thing that anyone needed to know about you was that you didn't look anything like your siblings. Short and plain, studious with no sense for fashion, and especially had no interest in having silly relationships like them. You doubted you would ever find anyone who would love you unless it came in the form of familial or platonic.
The second thing others need to know was that you never met your mom and that you had more siblings than you could count. The only parental structure in your life was your dad and Chiron, and occasionally, Mr. D. You spent your summers away at camp and the rest of the year at boarding school with the random weekend visit to some place Chiron brought you to keep your mind off your thoughts, though it never really worked.
The third thing was that your dad was dying. Your dad was a popular and well-respected professor in Ancient Greek studies, but five years ago, he fell ill, and four years ago, he was hospitalized. You visited him every day after school, weekends, and during the summer, when you had special permission along with your three other blood siblings to visit him. You hated to see him lying in a hospital bed, barely moving, but you could tell he always enjoyed seeing you and your siblings coming to visit and catching him up to speed on everything he missed.
The fourth was that you were completely normal. Your father had an affair (as he liked to call it) with Aphrodite, which made every child she had a demi-god, all except you. Which your dad knew bugged you even though you covered it up. Your siblings all got claimed early on except you. Even as you neared your eighteenth birthday, no sign of being claimed came. And you were the only kid at Camp Half-Blood to be mortal, being singled out and shoved into a cabin all by yourself. You were only allowed access because your dad was ill and Mr. D took pity on you for having no other relatives. Which was quite a shock to the camp that he even cared about you enough to make an exception.
Lastly, the fifth thing anyone needed to know was that you were completely and utterly in love with Percy Jackson. Aka, your best friend.
The last thing you heard about Percy was that he was off saving the world while you sat taking a calculus test.
Priorities, right?
Your siblings hadn't contacted you in some time and you weren't permitted to visit camp for safety reasons, so you sat at the hospital keeping your dad's worries at bay while you read him books or lied about your exciting life so your dad didn't feel worse that you literally had no friends besides one (which you were still unsure of due to the current predicament that they were facing).
It was graduation day, and you had just walked across the stage, looking at the crowd of unfamiliar faces of parents waiting for their kid to cross. You looked down at your diploma, tears threatening to spill over, and took in a deep breath as the kids around you stood up and threw their hats up into the air.
It was a silly dream, in comparison to the rest of the kids at camp, but you always wanted to have a normal graduation where you looked out and saw your loved ones faces, taking pictures afterwards then going to your favourite diner to eat and maybe, just maybe, get your first kiss at your favourite spot at camp. A fantasy filled day. Something you could only see in your dreams, no matter how many times you wrote it on your dream board, it was only achievable when you were asleep.
You made your way out of school after gathering your things and made your way to the hospital to see your dad. You knew he would be proud of you, even if graduating was small compared to saving the world. "Knowledge is key and power," your dad would always remind you. "It's better to have even a small portion than none." But knowledge didn't do much in a way of a social life or fixing the problems you wanted fixed. You still weren't claimed. You had no idea if the world was going to end tomorrow, if anyone you knew at camp was still alive, and it couldn't help you fix your dad's cancer. But hey, keep on learning cause you never know what you'll achieve later in life.
You exited the elevator and headed down the hall when you were stopped by nurse Kelly. "Hey, Y/N." Her voice was soft as she pulled you to the side. You could feel your stomach churning when you heard her tone of voice. She only used it when something bad pertaining to your dad happened, and this time, you were preparing for the worse.
You knew your dad wasn't getting any better. Everyday you sat and watched him grow skinnier to his bones looked like they were about to break skin, his hair had all but been gone years ago but nothing new even tried to grow and he had been coughing up blood, which he tried his hardest to hide from you.
"He's gone, isn't he?" You said quietly, looking into her eyes as you saw her face soften even more before she nodded in reply.
"He passed away about an hour ago. He watched the live stream of your graduation. He was so proud of you."
Biting your lip to stop the tears from falling, you nodded and took a deep breath. "Can I see him?"
The next hour was numbing. You held onto your dad, breathing in the citrus scent of his shampoo and the woodsy cologne he always wore. You packed up his things later that day, holding in every tear that tried to escape.
You were screwed. You had nowhere to go, and no idea if your siblings were alive or not, and the one person who was the source of hope and laughter for you was gone.
The school allowed you to stay for a few weeks as you figured out where to live and what your next step was. Your dad's lawyers found you and gave you his will. Not knowing if you were the sole benefactor to the fortune he built up, you kept everything in the bank besides a small amount which you were going to use to pay for an apartment near the college you were about to attend.
Things were finally figuring themselves out as your final weeks of staying at school drew near when you had gotten a letter from Chiron out of the blue. Everything was okay, your siblings were fine, and the camp was being rebuilt, along with an offer to teach classes to young demi-gods this summer, which included a place to stay. So you took it since you didn't have much of a job lined up yet.
"Y/N!" You heard being screamed out by a collective amount of people. And you soon felt your body being crushed by your siblings as they held onto you tightly. You smiled, holding them, not realizing until now how lonely you felt without them, even if you weren't as close to them.
The eldest, John, pulled away first and gave you a kiss on the forehead before picking up your bags. The twins, Shelby and Sky, linked their arms through yours as you walked into camp, as you took in the amount of damage it had.
Sky and Shelby were abuzz as they caught you up to speed on what happened while John shook his head chuckling as the two droned on about the most silliest of things. You tried paying attention, but your eyes and mind were in search of something far more important on what colour they were painting their cabin. Your feet stopped when your eyes landed on the thing you were searching for.
Percy.
The twins quickly took note of what was in your sights as they giggled, seeing that your fixation on your best friend was still there.
"Him and Annabelle got together, I heard." John said once he saw what his three younger siblings were looking at.
"John!" Sky gasped as he hit his older brother.
"Ow! What was the for!"
Shelby turned to look at you. "We didn't want to tell you until you were settled in more."
"Yeah, it happened just a month or two ago." Sky said quietly.
"Oh." Was all you could muster up as you watched him stacking up armor in the tote to be moved. His black hair rustled slightly in the wind, exposing his sea green eyes. "Let's just go."
The twins nodded, looping their arms through yours once more, and John led the way to your cabin.
Your cabin wasn't near the rest of the cabins besides one. Cabin number three.
Your cabin was on the tree line, covered besides one small area where your backdoor opened up to the water. And that's where you remet Percy.
You had originally met at school the year prior to him coming into camp. You were close, not as close as him and Grover, but still best friends. When you met him at camp, it was a shock, but you eventually fell into your old pattern of hanging out. You were even tolerated by Annabelle after a while.
You smiled at the memories your cabin brought up and sat down on the bed looking out the window and seeing Cabin Three in your sights.
A slight knock on the door pulled you out of your thoughts, and you looked over to see Percy learning against the door frame. "Well, well, well, look, who's back." He smirked at you, causing a huge smile to spread across your face. Forgetting the news you heard earlier that afternoon, you jumped up and rushed over to hug him. His usual scent gave you a peaceful calm, and his arms looped around your body and held you close.
"I missed you." He mumbled into your hair.
"I missed you too."
He pulled you tighter to his chest and held you for a few moments before letting go. He smiled brightly at you before crushing you into a hug again, causing you to giggle. "Did you miss me that much?"
"Of course!"
Tumblr media
You were a month into camp, and the newest campers sure kept you on your toes. You kept your distance from Percy since he was always one step behind Annabelle, and they usually kept to themselves when they weren't teaching a class to the little ones. You thought it would be better if you didn't have to see them being all coupley.
The only time you did see him was late at night when you'd go over after hearing his screams. Nightmares flooded cabin three at night, and the only way to keep them at bay was to stay up all night until sleep finally succumbed to Percy again. Each night, you read, sang, or just talked until Percy was finally able to sleep again. You knew what plagued his dreams, but he never talked about it, even when you encouraged him to.
It was just after campfire, and you were getting ready for bed when you heard a light commotion outside, and then a very loud, "Shit."
Poking your head out the window, you looked to see Percy trying to piece back together your broken flower pot that he had tripped over. You giggled as he looked around, trying to pieces that fit each other. "You know your gifts can't fix pots, right?"
He looked up and gave a sad smile. "Sorry... I guess like this pot I can't be fixed either." He pulled his knees up to his chest and rested his head on them.
You frowned at his words. Opening your cabin's door and walking out to sit next to him, the smell of alcohol hitting your nose before you even reached him. "What do you mean you can't be fixed? Who got your drunk?"
"It was one drink, I'm not even drunk."
"I said who, Percy." You knew the answer to your other question would not be answered tonight by the tone of his voice, so you decided not to push it tonight but for next time.
"Alex, from the Ares cabin. He got it for his birthday since last year he missed it because we almost all died." He looked at you with squinted eyes. You shook your head and gave a mental note to talk to Mr. D about it tomorrow.
"Okay," you said slowly. "That's not like you, though, Percy."
"She left me!" He suddenly shouted. "She doesn't want me anymore."
A few loose tears fell down his cheeks, and you reached up to wipe them away. You knew who he was talking about, and you tried to soothe him by stroking his hair as he laid his head on your lap. "Don't say that, Percy. She's your best friend and girlfriend. I bet by tomorrow morning everything will be alright."
"Not, it won't. She said she got a full ride at some school." His hand flung up, almost hitting you as he waved it angerly. "I didn't even know she applied there. She said distance was too hard and that we're better as friends anyway."
Annabelle didn't do anything for no reason, especially when Percy was involved, so you knew it had to be something important. It was probably just some silly fight since they hadn't had any true time apart from each other to take a breather. By the morning, both would be okay, and they would work something out distance wise if needed. They had time, almost a month left before college was starting, so they would be okay. You hated seeing Percy like this, so you sent up a small plea to Aphrodite in hopes she'd help their relationship, and maybe see the pathetic display of you consoling the love of your life about his girlfriend and maybe send someone to get over Percy with.
"Y/N." Percy's voice brought you out of your thoughts. He had sat up and was looking closely at you. His head slanted slightly, and then he gave you the most beautifulest smile that left you breathless.
Percy gently cupped your cheek. His tongue moistened his bottom lip as he head came close, your brain not even registering what was happening before his lips hit yours. It felt like Zeus threw a bolt of lightening at you as your lips connected and your mind became completely blank except for thoughts of Percy. The butterflies in your stomach fluttered around happily. Your body felt like it was on fire but at the same time cold as you leaned in towards Percy for his body heat. Your whole body seemed to be intoxicated by Percy, his touch, his smell. the little gasps he made. It was all you could focus on.
He was drunk and he probably wouldn't remember it in the morning, and if he did you had no idea what would happen between you two when morning came, but for now you wanted to be selfish. You never did anything in your life to displease others, always giving more of yourself than what was necessary because you wanted to fit in some way because you never did. And right now, you knew what you were doing was wrong, but as you kissed Percy back, it just felt right. Your hand fit his hand perfect, his lips felt like they belonged on yours, and even though you two had never kissed before, it felt like you had many times before. It just felt right, but it was oh so wrong.
Percy pulled back abrubtly, looking above your head. "You're glowing!" He excalimed.
You looked up to see that whatever was there was gone. "Nothing is there, Percy."
"No, I saw it. It looked like you were about to be claimed!" He said it with such a big smile on your face that you didn't have the heart to tell him that he was just seeing things due to being intoxicated.
"Yeah, must be when you kiss me that I get claimed." You joked, laughing, your thoughts still thinking about the kiss shared between the two of you.
But Percy only stared at you seriously. "Y/N, we need to kiss again to see if it works."
He leaned in, but you stopped him with your hand. "Percy, you're drunk. Don't do anything you regret, okay? Let's just go to bed. It's getting late anyway."
You got up and looked down at him as he stared down at the ground. He said a quick okay then got up. "Goodnight, Y/N."
"Goodnight, Percy."
Tumblr media
Percy ignored you for the next week, and Cabin Three was quiet at night.
Annabelle and him did seem to be done since they avoided each other almost as well as he avoided you. You were eating breakfast, staring out at the glistening lake, when a clunk of a plate hitting the table made you look up. Annabelle.
"So, I know what I did was wrong, but why is he not talking to you?" She asked, not even greeting you. You looked at her with a riased eyebrow as you swallowed the orange you were eating.
"What do you mean?"
"Percy. He's avoiding you. He takes different paths to get to where he needs to go so he doesn't bump into you. I know he knows your pattern every day, so I want to know what happened. He's my friend, after all."
"Just a conversation we had the other night." You didn't want to tell her the truth because you didn't want her to know he kissed you the same day she broke up with him.
"He kissed you." She said, causing you to gawk before quickly changing your expression. "He told me. He also told me it looked like you were about to be claimed while he kissed you. He told you, and you sent him to bed."
"He was drunk, Annabelle. He didn't know what he was talking about."
"He comprehensive enough to know what he was doing and what he saw. Y/N, I broke up with him for you."
"What?"
"He's obviously in love with you. He literally came to you that night."
You shook your head at what she was saying. "Yeah, drunk and crying over you. Not me, Annabelle. You. You're the one he has feelings for. What Percy and I have is just platonic. He chose you over immortality. That says a lot."
"I may be one reason why he chose to stay as he was, but you were the first reason." She said, her voice small and quiet.
"He's never shown any interest in me before, so I just can't have faith in his feelings over one drunk kiss." You gave her a sad smile and sighed. "I got a date anyway tonight."
You got up and grabbed your empty tray, Annabelle grabbing your arm before you could get far, a confused look in her eyes. "But you love Percy though."
You pulled your arm out of her grasp. "Now it's time to let go of Percy."
Tumblr media
You smoothed your white floral dress down and took a deep breath in. You were nervous. It was your first date ever, and Jack had always been kind to you and making you laugh easily. He had asked you the day after everything with Percy happened and you decided to go for it. You've been hanging out during the past week, but tonight was the big date.
You stood in front of Cabin 9 waiting on Jack. You were a few minutes early, but you were too nervous to be late.
The cabin's door opened, and Jack walked out wearing a slightly opened black dress shirt tucked into black dress pants and a black blazer on. His brown hair was combed except for the front that was slightly tilted up like he had been running his hands through it excessively.
"Y/N!" His smile bright once he saw you waiting. He walked over, giving you a hug, and then took your hand in his. "Are you ready?"
You nodded, smiling, and you started walking to the forest line. You couldn't help but compare him secretly to Percy as you walked and talked.
His hands were large and calloused, which you didn't mind, but compared to your small hands, you could barely hold his correctly as your fingers intertwined. He easily smiled, but his smile didn't give you those butterflies. You shook your head at your thoughts. No more Percy. You promised yourself.
You eventually made it to a small clearing and saw a small picnic laid out with tall candle holders scattered around lit up to create a romantic mood. "Wow," you gasped as he led you over.
He sat down next to you smiling sweetly. "It's our first date so I was wanted it to be special."
You looked around, the clearing was grassy, with wild flowers everywhere, fireflies danced around as the sunset and the glow from the candles created a beautiful light.
He offered you some finger sandwiches with some fruit and veggies. The date was going good, and the conversation flowed easily. Jack and you were shoulder to shoulder flirting, and your brain had completely forgotten Percy, which you were thankful for.
"You're beautiful." Jack said, his hand in your hair, his face leaning closer to yours when the siren interrupted your almost kiss.
"Is that the battle siren?" You asked eyes wide.
"I think so. I knew they were going to randomly pull it to get us prepared in case anything else happens, but this late?"
You got up hurriedly, " I got to go to the kids. They aren't prepared for this."
Jack took your hand in his. "Be careful, and good luck." He leaned and placed a small kiss on your forehead when it suddenly started to pour, drenching the both of you.
You shrieked as the cold water hit you. "Percy!" You screamed out, knowing it was his doing of some sorts. The rain poured heavier as you and Jack ran through the woods hand in hand. The rain had made it impossible to see.
"He is one hell of an opponent." Jack mumbled as you tried to find your way out. Once you reached the forest edge, you could make out the cabins, and Jack and you parted, the rain conventiely calming down now that you and Jack weren't touching.
You ran to your cabin and grabbed your sword. Jack and a few of his siblings had helped you build it the first year you were here since the teachers didn't think you should have one since you weren't a demigod. Percy had taught you to sword fight, and you now were one of the best even if you didn't have the advantages of being a demigod.
You discarded your wedges and quickly slipped on your boots, not worrying about changing your outfit since you didn't have time. The siren wailed again, letting you know it was time as you strapped on your blue bandana on your arm.
Each cabin was given a colour- red or blue- and that determined what team you were on. You were on the blue team with all the new demigods to ensure they had someone to look out for them. Chiron thought it was better to separate them from their houses so they could see what they could do in battle and fight alongside them or against them instead of being left on their own. Siblings could either baby them or throw them to the wolves, and Chiron didn't want that.
You made your way back to the forest line to the large clearing where some kids had already started fighting, others joining in as they came into the clearing. You spotted Jack in the distance, a red bandana on, as he pinned one of Apollo's kids down to the ground with a contraption that he made.
Making your way into the field, you slashed your sword that was pointing at one of the new Aphrodite kids who was crying on the ground. You twisted your sword around and flung your opponent's sword in the air and catching it. Swinging your foot beneath theirs quickly, they fell to the ground, and you grabbed the bandana off of them, cutting it in half so they couldn't back on. You tossed the other sword and continued making your way into the center of the battlefield, taking and cutting bandanas as you went.
You made it in the middle to find Percy there battling three kids at once, while a fourth one came up to strike from the back. You stepped in sword pointed to clash against theirs. The guy was strong, demigod strength being used, which was something you didn't have, but you did work out, so you used what strength you had and disarmed him, cutting his bandana in the process.
A wave of people came towards you, so you backed up, your back touching Percy's as a ground of people circled you. "Annabelle, sure knows who to coordinate these battles to her advantage." He said , slashing at someone who came forward.
"Of course she does. She knows how you fight." You grumbled.
"Do you like the weather element that I added?"
"The rain?" You questioned, ducking from the group of swords that swung at you. "You literally soaked out my date!"
"Oops, sorry."
"You don't sound sorry!" You barked back.
"Just admit the date sucked," he said between breathes as he fended off more people that was coming, "and you'd rather have been with me."
You turned around and side swept his leg, knocking him the ground, you on top of him, as a cannon ball whizzed through the air at the both of you. "Seriously? Now is not the time, Percy!"
He pulled you close, turning his wrist and letting his shield cover you both from the hound of swords clanging above you. "Now is the perfect time." His cocky smirk, irking you. "Just admit it. You wish he was me."
"No."
"I'm going to guess there were no sparks between you two." He teased. "Just a dull touch. Unlike ours, which was ten times better."
"Fine! No sparks, are you happy? Now let me up."
"Just admit that you wished it was me."
The clanging of swords got louder as more people rushed over to you causing you to panic slightly. "No!" You rolled the both of you over, you landing on your knees, as Percy used his shield to cover the back of you as you swiped your sword at those in front of you.
"Just admit you like me!" Percy yelled, his back to yours.
"Fine. I like you. No, I love you! I have been there for years, but you've been too blind to see it!" You screamed, kicking someone in the stomach.
Suddenly, the ground shook beneath you, cracking as water shot up, sending a tsunami wave over your opponents, knocking them on the ground. You turned back to see Percy smiling at you, out of breath, as he reached over and took you in his arms. The rain continues to pour down onto you as Percy cupped your cheek. "I've loved you too. I just didn't realize it."
You stared at each other for a second. The only sound you could hear was your heavy breathing and the rain pouring down. Your heads tilted unconsciously as they came closer, and your lips touched, sending tingles all up and down your body. Your arms wrapped around Percy, your sword falling to the ground as your hands found their way into his hair.
You both pulled away after a bit, gasping for air. "Y/N..." Percy said quietly, his eyes looking up. "She's finally claimed you."
You looked up to see Aphrodite's mark above you glowing.
"I guess kissing me does get you claimed." Percy said smirking before placing a small kiss on your lips.
"Are you going to be lending out your services to anyone needed to be claimed?" You teased.
"Nah, I'm retiring. These lips are only in service for you." He said, giving you another kiss. "But I do think we need to end this battle. Our team is getting beat." You laughed as he handed you your sword before going back to the fight.
Tumblr media
"No using charmspeak on me!" Percy groaned as he rolled over into his pillow.
"I didn't!" You giggled, "I just asked to watch a movie!"
Percy's face turned away from the pillow, smiling. "I know. You don't have the charmspeak me to get me to do whatever you ask of me."
You rolled your eyes at him, smacking him with a pillow. He sat up, taking the pillow away from you as he gently pushed you down onto the bed, pinning you beneath his weight. His thumb ran across your bottom lip before giving you a small kiss.
"Are you ready for camp this summer?"
"Yeah, as long as I get to cuddle you all night." He said, pulling you over to lay on top of him, and he held you close to his body.
You laughed at his goofy pout. "Well you are the only other person in that cabin, so I think we could easily make that worked."
"I'm glad you're claimed." He muttered in your hair.
You pulled away looking at him, eyebrows raised. "Oh?"
"Yeah, claimed as mine." He whispered before pulling you in for another kiss.

I turned to Spencer. “Are you going along with this?”
Spencer shrugged again, “It’s Luke’s head, not ours.” Spencer took my hand and slipped in front of me, guiding me out of the conference room behind Luke and JJ. Instead of heading straight for the door, he led me through a winding path of cubicles on the way out.
We passed Richie’s desk, and I offered him a small smile with a wave. I could’ve sworn I saw his face drop a bit when he saw me holding Spencer’s hand. I looked up at Spencer as we reached the door, who wore a smug smile on his face.
“Did you do that on purpose?” I asked. Without turning his head, he continued guiding us towards the SUV where Luke and JJ were climbing in the front seats.
“Do what on purpose?” he asked, a playful tinge in his voice.
“Spencer-” I started to scold him before Luke cut me off.
“Buckle up, kids. I’m starving.” He hit the gas with full force, jolting us forward in our seats. JJ connected her phone to the SUV, playing some song I’d never heard before.
“What song is this?” I asked. JJ dropped her jaw.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. I know you’re young, but I didn’t know I was that old.” She shook her head. “Spence, you know this song, right?” She turned her head slightly towards the back seat.
Spencer raised an eyebrow, “I don’t.”
“He doesn’t listen to music that normal people do,” I said.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Spencer said, furrowing his brow and tilting his head while awaiting my reply.
“Well, you know. Most people don’t get up in the morning and start getting ready to the musical works of Tchaikowsky.”
JJ turned her head back to us again. “How do you know what he gets ready to in the morning?” she asked, a mischievous smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Spencer and I gave each other a quick glance.
“I’ve stayed over a couple times,” I shrugged, “and no, we aren’t living together.” Spencer nodded in agreement, we could only imagine the gossip that would get started around the office if everyone knew we’d moved in together. Emily and JJ would never let us rest.
“Mhm,” Luke nodded, turning into the diner’s parking lot. “I’m sure the only things you guys did was sleep, too.” I bit my lip, turning to Spencer who was adamantly trying to escape Luke’s questioning eyes in the SUV’s mirror.
JJ giggled as Luke pulled into a parking space, shutting off the car. “Leave them alone, Luke. I’m sure you wouldn’t want us digging into your sexual history.”
Luke held his hands up in defense, “Hey now, I didn’t do anything. I was just offering Romeo and Juliet back there a chance to divulge any information they’ve been keeping to themselves.”
“Isn’t it nine in the morning?” Spencer asked, checking his watch. “This seems like more of a late-night conversation.”
“Nah,” Luke said, “it’s never too early to pick on you two.” I rolled my eyes, opening my car door and stepping out into the parking lot. The morning sun was blocked by layers of clouds covering the sky. A light breeze blew through the air, raising goosebumps on my arms.
I walked over to Spencer’s side of the car and waited for him to get out. I rubbed my hands over my arms, trying to generate some body heat. He stepped out of the car, removed his jacket and lightly draped it over my shoulders. “Thank you, honey,” I said with a smile.
“Of course,” he replied, straightening the shoulders of his jacket to best cover my figure.
Luke gagged from where he stood on the sidewalk. “This is what I’m talking about,” he looked to JJ and motioned in our direction, “it’s never too early to get at these two.”
Spencer turned to look at Luke, shooting him a quiet but playful warning glance as we approached the restaurant’s front door. It was a small building with white siding and blue shutters. “How quaint,” I heard JJ murmur as she took in the small cafe.
Floral wallpaper scattered the walls and aged wooden floors surrounded the large wood stove burning in the center of the room. Each table was full of scrapes and scratches, a lifetime of stories held in each one. Mismatched chairs were placed at each table, with placemats that look handmade.
The cafe was empty, except for a couple sitting at a table in the far corner. The woman’s dark hair and the man’s thick mustache caught my eye. “Emily? Detective Whittendon?” I called across the small room.
The pair looked in my direction. Emily smiled, waving us over. “Hey, you guys. Detective Whittendon and I decided to stop in here for a bite to eat before the day got too chaotic. Do you all want to join us?” Their plates, nearly scraped clean, indicated they’d been here for awhile.
“No thanks, boss,” Luke said, “you guys look like you’re about to head out anyway.”
Whittendon nodded. “I believe we are. Agent Prentiss, would you care to come with me back to the office while I check some things on my computer? I think I can get the information you’re looking for if I check my email list.”
“Sure,” Emily said. “Enjoy breakfast, team. We’ve got a busy day ahead.” She and Whittendon arose from their seats. Whittendon threw a couple dollar bills on the table. The couple brushed past us as they walked out.
The detective paused to address us. “Dr. Reid, Agent L/N, good to see you again. Enjoy your morning.” He continued out the door, holding it open for Emily before following her out.
Luke sat down at a table adjacent to the one Emily and Whittendon had just left. “I didn’t know Emily was into younger guys,” he said.
I knitted my brows together. “What?” I asked. “You seriously think those two are hitting it off in that way?” JJ looked as unconvinced as I did.
“Never know. Maybe it’s the porn stache,” he suggested. JJ rolled her eyes and sat down next to Luke, leaving the opposite booth open for Spencer and I. I wriggled myself into the space closest to the window as Spencer slid in next to me.
A young waitress appeared from behind the counter, her apron messy with stains and her hair tied back in a hurried ponytail. “Good morning,” she said, “what can I get you all to drink?”
After we’d all ordered our food and drinks, Luke’s phone buzzed rapidly on the table. “Must be Garcia,” he said before picking it up and answering. I could hear her muffled voice on the other end. Luke spoke in intervals, allowing Garcia to share what information she had found.
“Uh-huh… Yeah, Garcia… Okay… Sure, that would be great… Okay… Thanks again.” He set his phone back on the table top, taking a moment to think before having another bite of his breakfast sandwich.
“What was that?” JJ asked with a mouthful of toast.
“Garcia’s sending information about Graydon’s kids to our tablets. We can look over it when we get back.” JJ nodded, wiping some excess butter off her lip before taking a sip of her coffee.
We all continued eating as the waitress brought the last of our food to the table. Spencer reached across the table for the syrup, accidentally knocking the scalding coffee pot over. The spilled coffee quickly dripped off the table, landing directly on my skirt. “Dammit!” I shouted. The boiling liquid soaked into the fabric of the material, holding the blazing heat directly against my skin. I couldn’t help but think back to the car accident. Hot metal, my leg pinned between the door and the seat, struggling to pull myself out.
Spencer quickly hopped up from the table. “Oh god, I’m so sorry.” He frantically pulled napkins from a dispenser at another table, pressing them down on the black, coffee-soaked fabric.
I looked over at Luke and JJ, who were watching with concerned looks on their faces. I waved my hand at them in dismissal. “I’m really fine,” I said, “seriously, Spence.”
As he pressed another napkin to my leg, I let out a noticeable gasp and winced. “Spencer, I think it burnt my leg a bit,” I said. “I should probably go to the restroom and check it out before we go.”
“I’m so sorry. Come here,” he pulled me out from my position on the edge of the booth and walked with me to the bathroom.
I looked back at Luke and JJ. “Get boxes for our food, I’m still hungry!” I shouted as Spencer and I disappeared down the small hallway that led to the women’s restroom. He stood at the entrance, holding the door open for me. “Spencer, I really don’t need you to come in with me. It’s fine.”
“I am coming in with you. If you have a burn, you and I both know you won’t take care of it properly, the way I would.” It was evident he wasn’t backing down on this one, and who were you to challenge him.
“Fine,” I said, entering the bathroom and leaning back against the sink. Spencer knelt down and gently lifted my skirt up to unveil my upper thigh. I already had a nasty scar there from the car accident a few months prior, and now a long red streak was appearing over the scar.
“Oh god,” Spencer said, he ran a hand over his face. “I’m so sorry. We need to get something on that as soon as possible.” Though the sharp stinging in my thigh was growing more uncomfortable by the second. I tried to ignore it, choosing instead to ruffle the curls on top of my boyfriend’s head.
“It’s a good thing you’re pretty,” I joked. He looked up at me, an unamused look on his face.
“This is not funny. I know this has to be painful.” He gently dropped my skirt back down my leg, covering the affected area. “I’ll go out to the SUV and get the medical kit. There should be something for burns in the-” I cut him off, shaking my head.
“It’s not that serious, Spence. It’s just a little burn,” I said as he rose up from his kneeled position, towering over me once again. “Sure, it might sting and blister a little, but it’ll go away. I’ll certainly live.”
He sighed and leaned forward, placing both hands on either side of the sink, caging me in. “I want to make sure you’re not in any pain.” He placed a kiss on my forehead before continuing, “Can’t you let me take care of you?”
I reached my arms up, wrapping myself around his neck. “Yeah, I can. I do. But this isn’t something that needs to be taken care of,” he hummed in disagreement as I pulled him down closer to me. “I can think of some other things you could take care of, though.” I leaned back, biting my lip.
He drew in a sharp breath, raising his eyebrows at my statement. “You think so?”
“I know so, Doctor Reid,” I teased. He pulled his hands from the counter and placed them on my hips, rubbing light circles with his thumb.
He lowered his voice, his tone dark and serious, “If we ever get to a hotel, I’ll show you just how well I can take care of-”
The bathroom door swung open, JJ stood on the outside. “Hey, I just wanted to make sure Y/N was okay…” Her words became slower as her jaw dropped a bit. She looked us up and down. Spencer was leaned over me, hands planted firmly on my hips as I had my arms wrapped around his neck, hands in his curls. “Whoa,” she said, immediately looking back down at the ground, “if you guys wanted an excuse to get up from the table, you could’ve just said that.”
Luke’s head popped into the doorway behind JJ. A grin sprang on to his face as Spencer and I quickly unraveled from each other. “What happened to ‘Isn’t it only nine in the morning?’ Huh, Reid?”
Spencer looked up to make eye contact with Luke. Taking my hand, he started to pull me out of the bathroom and back into the main part of the diner. Luke laughed again, “Awh, come on, you two. You have to admit, this is funny!” JJ swatted Luke on the shoulder as he continued giggling. Spencer and I collected our forgotten food from the table before exiting the building.
When we made it out of the restaurant and to the SUV, I could tell that Luke’s taunting was starting to get on Spencer’s nerves. “Spencer and Y/N on the bathroom sink, K-I-S-S-I-N-G,” Luke sang as he climbed into the driver’s seat of the vehicle. That was actually pretty clever. Spencer, however, did not seem to think so.
“Hey, Luke,” Spencer said, interrupting his song, “you know earlier when you were joking about Y/N staying at my place?” Oh no, I thought, he’s really mad, now.
“Yeah, loverboy. Why do you ask?” Luke put the SUV in drive, backing out of the parking spot and pulling on to the street.
“I’ll have you know she stays quite frequently,” Spencer said, leaning forward in the seat to get closer to Luke. “And, no, we rarely ‘just sleep.’ So, if you need any pointers on how to get a beautiful woman in your bed, I’d be more than happy to offer some advice.”
JJ’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. My jaw quickly dropped as Luke slammed on the car’s brakes, nearly bringing us to a stop in the middle of an intersection. “Luke! Drive!” JJ said, wacking him on the shoulder once more.
I took the opportunity to wack Spencer on the arm as well. “Ouch! What was that for?” he asked.
“I can’t believe you just said that,” I said, covering my reddened cheeks with my hands. Spencer mouthed something along the lines of ‘sorry’ before Luke spoke up again.
“I believe it,” Luke said as he sped the car up. He looked back at Spencer in the rearview mirror. “My man, Spencer. I always knew he had it in him.” Luke beamed like a proud father, while JJ and I did the best to cover our faces for the rest of the drive back to the precinct.
When we arrived and reentered the building, we immediately headed for the conference room to find what Garcia had left for us on our tablets. Through the conference room blinds, I could see Matt and Rossi standing next to each other, examining the white board at the front of the room.
“What are you two looking at?” Luke asked as we entered. Spencer shut the door firmly behind us as we took our seats around the table.
Matt gestured to the gory images of the victims on the board. “Rossi and I just got back from the coroner’s office. The manner of death isn’t exactly what you’d think.” He turned to face us as Rossi pinned another image up on the board.
“What do you mean?” JJ asked. Matt looked over at Rossi, silently asking who would explain. When Rossi continued to stare at the board, Matt spoke again.
“The ME says the official cause of death was asphyxia caused by strangulation.” Eyebrows raised around the room as we all took in this new information.
“So their throats were slashed postmortem?” Spencer asked, running a hand over his stubble.
Matt nodded. “ME said they were likely strangled to death with a thick object… like a belt.”
“Why slash their throats?” JJ wondered aloud, leaning back in her chair and flipping a stray hair out of her eyes.
I took the chance to share my thoughts. “Overkill,” I theorized. “If the unsub is harboring some kind of rage, that could explain the severe beatings these men have endured, not to mention the substantial overkill he carries out after they are already dead.” Rossi turned from the board, nodding in agreement.
“Does that mean these crimes are personal?” Luke asked.
Spencer shook his head, “Not necessarily. The victims could be surrogates for the true source of the unsub’s rage.”
“Considering Garcia’s been working on victimology for nearly two days and we’ve got nothing that connects these victims, I think the kid’s right,” Rossi said. “The unsub isn’t prepared or brave enough to take out his real target. These victims are just the warm up.”
I sat up straighter in my chair, the severity of the situation at hand causing my shoulders to tense. “How do we find his real target?” I asked, looking to Rossi and his years of experience for a solution.
Rossi lowered himself into a seat at the table, thinking for a moment before continuing. “We continue to work the case as-is. We hope victimology turns up connections to a shady figure or that he gets sloppy during his next attack.” He turned to the rest of the group, “Because he will attack again. Someone with this much rage is not going to stop until they’ve eliminated their ultimate target.”
To be continued...

Where Will We End Up? (Headcanons/Context)
In honor of the resurfacing of JATP S2 rumors, here's some context set in the WWWEU? Universe.
Warnings: mentions of absent fathers, relationships with parents, implied hostile home environment, use of Y/N, Alex is Catholic, implied homophobia, female reader (Let me know if I missed something!)
Luke Patterson
Born November 25, 1977 (13 at the start of the story)
The oldest of the group
Born and raised in Canada
Moved to LA when he was 12 for his 8th-grade year
Only child
Lives with both his parents
Has a good relationship with both but struggles to communicate with his mom more
His dad plays guitar and taught him how to play
Has ADHD
Has a slight accent
And a stutter
Started cutting the sleeves of his shirts because too much fabric bothered him
Was overstimulated on the first day of school
He bumped into Alex in the cafeteria causing both of their trays to fall down
It was his last straw and he exploded
“Hey! Watch where you’re going!”
Y/N put him in his place after he yelled at Alex
He looked for them a few days later to apologize
“I uh, brought cookies?”
He brings cookies every time he messes up
Doesn’t have physical boundaries with his friends
It took getting smacked on the forehead by Bobby many, many times for him to understand not to hug him unprompted
Emily loves hosting
The group used to sleep over at Luke’s a lot
The more serious Luke got about music, the more arguments he had with his mom
It got so bad he eventually ran away from home
He actually wasn’t allowed in Alex’s room alone anymore after they got caught kissing
Every time he went over to Alex's the air was tense
He stopped showing up the way he used to, instead opting to sneak in
He picked up a job as a waiter at a local diner
The group loves to go in just to terrorize him
Firmly believes that you choose your family and he chose his
Isn’t bad at school, he just can’t focus on it for the life of him
Gets detention a lot because he gets caught not paying attention
The reason they have a zero-tolerance after 3 tardies rule
He takes boxing lessons with Jose Camacho to release his pent-up energy
Forgets he knows how to fight
Reggie Peters
Born May 06, 1978 (12 at the start of the story)
Third oldest of the group
Born and raised in LA
Lives by the beach
Likes to sneak out and listen to the waves
Can surf
Lives with both his parents
But he doesn’t have a good relationship with either
He doesn’t hate them nor have they directed anything at him, he just wishes they’d listen and spend more time with him
Only child
But he babysits Diego Miller, the little boy next door who he decided was his little brother
He’s not as dense as he makes himself out to be
He just doesn’t like to think about things too much because it stirs his feelings
Really good at Math and Science
He likes that it's logical thinking, not emotional
Doesn’t like English because it requires him to tap into emotions and he really doesn’t want to
He doesn’t like History either because it leaves him bothered by the shitty and unfair past
Has selective mutism
It kicked in badly during one of his parents' fights
The longest he’s gone mute was 2 months
It kicks in every now and then but not for as long and not around everyone
He learned ASL because of it
Sometimes he uses it outside of an episode just because it’s easier
Everyone else tries to pick it up, levels of proficiency vary
He found “Wright’s Domain” a comic book shop one day after he had walked out of his house
He spends most of his Summers there
He sits in the same bean bag
The more time he spent there, the more he found himself doing random things
He’d reorganize comics, reposition figurines and when someone asked him where they could find a specific section he pointed them to it
The couple that owns the store started to notice him
They left snacks by his bean bag chair with a note thanking him for fixing up
He wrote back a thank you with a doodle of himself holding two thumbs up and an arrow pointing out his name was Reggie
The snacks waited for him every visit
His voice did come back, at the shop
He spoke to the owners, Donna and Michael, quite often, they love hearing about his day
He eventually got a job there
Ended up bringing everyone one day
He was a little nervous because the shop was his safe space but so was the group
The owners loved the group too
Donna and Michael live in THE house
Alex Mercer
Born August 23, 1978 (12 at the start of the story)
Second to last youngest
Lives with both his parents
The eldest
He has a younger sister named Sophia
Had a good relationship with both his parents up until he came out
Always watches out for his sister
He plays tea party and dresses up with her
His dad made a comment about it and Alex stopped doing it so frequently
Grew up Catholic
He never really thought much of it until he noticed he looked at boys a lot for being a boy himself
He’s not the biggest fan of it anymore
Was already an anxious kid but as he got older; his religious background, his dad's expectations, and being more aware of the world's problems made his anxiety skyrocket
He fidgets by tapping his fingers on a surface or hitting his thighs with his hands
His parents got him a drum set to help ease it
He met Y/N when they were 7
He defended her against a bully
He got detention
She walked home with him that day and they realized they lived 3 streets down from each other
Really wants to make his dad proud
His dad has a lot of traditional views of men which contradict with Alex 95% of the time
His first crush was on Ryan, a boy he went to church with, but he didn’t know it yet
His stomach dropped when he saw Ryan and another girl share a quick kiss at the park
Developed a crush on Luke
His first kiss and boyfriend was Luke
His dad opened the door to Alex’s room and caught them kissing
His dad stood there, closed the door and walked away
His dad didn’t speak to him at all through dinner
The next day, his dad told him he’d take him to church to repent
Alex said no and came out when he was 15
They got into an argument
His dad didn’t kick him out (to save his image) but told him that until he repented, he wasn’t his son
He was the first to meet Reggie
They’re in the same Math class and the teacher asked Reggie to tutor him
They met up after school twice a week
Alex wasn’t looking for a friend but Reggie being the social butterfly he is, didn’t care
The more times they saw each other, the more Alex got used to him and his antics
He actually understood Math the way Reggie would teach him
One day Luke didn’t want to go home because he had fought with his mom and Y/N was busy, Alex found Reggie to tell him he had to stick to Luke
Reggie told him Luke was welcome to join their session
Luke sat across from them and wrote in his journal but was still fidgety
Reggie cut the tutoring session short and invited them out for ice cream
Alex questioned his life choices as Luke and Reggie’s loud personalities mixed
He initiated his and Luke’s first kiss
And then immediately panicked before Luke laughed and pulled him back in
He was the one who broke up with Luke
There was an awkward air for like 2 minutes before they talked about everything and went back to being best friends
Bobby Shaw
Born March 16, 1978 (13 at the start of the story)
The second oldest of the group
Never knew his dad
Lives with his mom and grandma
Has a good relationship with both
Only child (not really but we'll get into that later)
Keeps to himself mostly
Skates
He paints, though he doesn’t like people looking at his art
Took an art class during his freshman year
He never did anything in class
He’d do it at home and sneak in the assignment the next day, nameless
His art teacher caught him one time and told him he’d leave the art room open for him to do his assignments so as long as he starts signing his name
He spends a lot of time in the art room
Close to the art teacher, Mr. Cervantez
He was the first positive male influence in his life
Befriends Y/N first, she takes an art class with him
He’s actually not sure how to handle social interactions
He’s pretty awkward
He helped Luke on their first week of high school
Luke was being picked on and they had taken the beanie off his head
He stopped Luke from launching himself at the other guys
“Come on guys, give it back.”
One of the guys looked at him questioningly
Bobby stood his ground
The guys tossed the beanie back at Luke and Bobby walked off as soon as they left
Luke approached him weeks later and he internally panicked the whole time
Has problems with authority
That guy that will touch something after you said not to
His grandma hates that he does that but he can’t help it
He’s respectful to both his mom and grandma, no one else really
Lacks a filter, has accidentally hurt people’s feelings because of it
Not a big physical touch guy
He has to be very comfortable with you to initiate touch
All talk
Like he can’t fight
He’s gotten by on physical appearance alone
The guys hide behind him all the time and when Y/N needs him, his tall looming presence behind her has people running for the hills
He’s punched one person and one person only
It was Alex’s dad
Y/N Y/L/N
Born September 01, 1978
The youngest of the group
Only child
Lives with her mom
Dad walked out when she was 7
Her mom started drinking, causing the mother-daughter bond to break
Spends the night at Alex’s a lot
The first time, her bed was set up in Sophia’s room
After everyone had gone to sleep she snuck into Alex’s room
The next day, his parents found her sleeping at the edge of his bed with his blanket draped over the edge also to cover Alex who slept on the floor
After it happened 3 more times, they stopped trying to separate the two
She has clothes in the bottom drawer of Alex’s dresser
Alex’s number 1 protector
They made friendship bracelets, purple yarn for her and blue for Alex
Luke and her = sibling energy
Likes to wear other people's clothes
Makes her feel like they’re with her and she’s not alone
Literally carrying their love with her
It started with one of the shirts her dad left behind
She likes Alex’s hoodies, Luke’s beanies and in the Summer she’ll snag one of his sleeveless tees, Reggie’s flannels and in the Winter his leather jacket, Bobby’s t-shirts and vests
The guys knock on her door when they can’t find the item they want to wear because they know she has it
She and Alex remade their friendship bracelets to include Luke (Orange)
She made them remake them later once Bobby (Green) and Reggie (Red) became part of their little group
All 5 of them wear it no matter what
She likes to draw
Was the first to befriend Bobby in art class
She admired him from afar (because look at him) and wondered what he did, given that he always slept in the class
One time while waiting for Alex and Luke to get out of detention, she walked around school and caught Bobby in the art room
His back was to her and he wore headphones as he painted
She loved his piece and wondered why he never did anything in class
Wrote him sticky notes encouraging him to show his work
Eventually, he wrote back saying he’d reveal his work if she revealed who she was
It was a deal and they started talking more afterwards
Luke was upset when he learned she was friends with Bobby
Mostly because he thought Bobby was a dick (a dick he tried to be friends with first but failed)

After confessing your feelings to each other, Jess was desperate to take you to Stars Hollow. He wanted you to see the little town and he wanted to introduce you to Luke, knowing that his Uncle would love you straight away. And he was right. The moment you walked into the diner, you were greeted by a tall man, wearing a baseball cap and a flannel shirt embracing you in a bear hug.
‘You must be (Y/N),’ he said, pulling back from the hug and smiling at you.
‘(Y/N), this is my Uncle Luke,’ Jess introduced, taking one of your hands in his.
‘It’s nice to meet you, sir,’ you said.
‘I don’t think I’ve heard anyone call you sir,’ a tall, dark-haired woman said, getting up from her table and walking over to you, wrapping one arm around Luke and holding her hand out to you. ‘I’m Lorelai.’
‘Nice to meet you,’ you replied, reaching out to shake her hand.
‘Come and sit down, you want a coffee, hun?’ Lorelai offered, walking behind the counter and grabbing a mug and the coffee pot.
‘Get out from there,’ Luke said, walking over to Lorelai and pulling her back around the counter.
‘She doesn’t work here?’ you asked, leaning into Jess slightly.
‘No, she’s dating Luke,’ Jess explained, leading you over to the table where Lorelai had been sitting on her own. Taking your seats, Lorelai filled three mugs with coffee before sitting back down and talking at a breakneck speed, wanting to know everything about it. It was when she mentioned Rory that you felt yourself go cold.
‘You know Rory?’ you asked politely, taking a sip of your coffee.
‘Well, I’d hope so, she’s my daughter,’ Lorelai joked and you gave a weak laugh in response. ‘Why? Do you know her?’
‘(Y/N) and Rory briefly saw each other at the open house in Philadelphia,’ Jess explained. You managed to make it through the rest of the afternoon, talking to Lorelai as if nothing was wrong before you and Jess decided to call it a day and head to the apartment above the diner (Luke having offered it to you both while he stayed at Lorelai’s).
‘Are you okay?’ Jess asked after gently closing the door behind him.
‘So, this is where you lived?’ you started, looking around the small apartment, trying to change the subject.
‘Don’t change the subject,’ Jess said, seeing right through you as he wrapped his arms around your waist and held you close. You sighed before leaning your forehead on his chest.
‘I just hate the way she treated you,’ you said, your voice muffled by his t-shirt. ‘She led you on and I know you said that you don’t have feelings for her anymore, and I believe you, but she was the first girl you loved and she ruined it. You know I won’t do that right?’ you asked, moving your head to look at time.
‘Do you know what Luke said to me earlier while you were talking to Lorelai?’ Jess asked softly, bringing his hands up to gently cup your face. ‘He said that you’re good for me. That he can see how happy I am when I’m with you. And I agree with him. That’s all that matters, right?’
You couldn’t stop the butterflies in your stomach at his words and you smiled up at him, reaching on your toes to press a kiss to his lips.
‘Right.’

THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING GILMORE GIRLS: S3/EP4/ONE’S GOT CLASS THE OTHER ONE DYES (PART 5)
Parts 1-4 and all other episodes are linked in my pinned post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OMG. PHRASING, LUCAS. PHRASING!! IT'S OKAY EVERYBODY! HE MEANT METAPHORICALLY, PEOPLE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, your affair with Dean Forrester should already have you on some kind of registry.
Luke is giddy with delight over Lorelai's humilation at the school and is giggling up a storm, a gigglestorm the likes of which I've never heard before from him. Let's alll point and laugh at Lorelai! It's fun.
Tumblr media
The KarenDebbies are descending upon us. I can't wait to hear Lorelai say the word "condoms"!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've never seen him this happy before?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sadly with no context I wouldn't be able to tell if this was 2023 or 2002. Karens: Why were you discussing your pregnancy, why didn't you change the subject? Lorelai: I tried but they kept coming at me like I was poland and they were Nazis. Urrrp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In my unrated Gilmore Girls rewrite titled The Hollow, I promise to rewrite this episode so that we see Lorelai throwing condoms at high school students.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well as long it's just a banana and you don't bring Dean for the subject of your demonstration. KarenDebbie: What kind of mother are you?! Lorelai: The kind that doesn't just gloss over uncomfortable topics!
My ass you don't. She spends a good 75% of season 3 moving heaven and earth to interfere in Jess and Rory's relationship and cockblocking them to make sure these two legal adults don't fuck each other instead of giving Rory any sort of useful information about sex and you should know better than anyone that that's a solid recipe for teen pregnancy, Miss GlossyPants. Speaking of. Guess who else is about to get a fumbling attempt at Awkward Parental Sex Talk? This li'l guy.
Tumblr media
We don't want Shane to get pregnant. It would make her already tragic impending death even more tragic.
Tumblr media
So, what's up with Luke's apartment? There's a guitar, bongos, and maracas (plus a sign he stole from a bus stop). Does he have a secret past in some kind of salsa band?
Tumblr media
Luke referring to a human being as something you can "stash in a closet" like an old box of Monopoly is fucking hilarious. The delivery is also very "Jess are you a gigolo?" and "What are you, a drug dealer now?" Like he knows it's a ridiculous question but he's also mildly concerned that the answer is going to be Yes. And now, for all time favorite exchange in the entire Gilly Girls World:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jess and Rory are cool and all. But Luke and Jess are it for me. These two are the reason I keep watching. Their dynamic is so perfect and things were never the same after Milo left, not only because of the breakup of Literati but because I desperately miss these two guys playing off each other.
Tumblr media
I don't know. I feel like Shane wouldn't give a flying cupcake about getting caught. She had no problem repeatedly barging into the diner to hump Jess' leg while Luke and Lorelai were watching and Luke had to part them like Moses parting the sea to wait tables, and she had no problem playing tonsil hockey with Jess against a tree for hours in view of hundreds of people. More evidence that this little dude is lying and that Closet Girl wasn't actually Shane.
Tumblr media
We know, Jesstopher. We know. You little freakazoid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amen, brother.
Tumblr media
Bolt the doors Lucas he's gonna run! Luke should be pulling a Lorelai and throwing bags of condoms at Jess. Stars Hollow called an emergency town meeting after he drew on a sidewalk with chalk. I can't imagine the fate of both Jess and Luke if it were discovered that Jess planted his demon seed in anyone but especially precious Rory.
Tumblr media
I love it when Luke tells Jess to shut up. Fantastic stuff. Luke: If you care about this Shane girl you have to treat her better. Jess: I don't care about her. I don't know her last name. She mentioned it once, didn't stick. We're just "hangin out." Staaahp. Jess is so deliciously blunt and nonchalant about her. Anyone fellow Millenials here? Does anyone else remember that in high school in the late 90's and early 2000's "hooking up" (or in Jess' case, "hanging out") meant literally anything you wanted it to mean and so one of your friends could say "I hooked up with Jason last night" but that could mean they either made out for a few minutes or they were full on bumping uglies or something in between and you often had to ask uncomfortable questions. It was a very confusing time. It kept us all on our toes.
Tumblr media
Luke, you have a pair of eyes. You've seen what they do in your diner. There should not exist any doubt that they're not convening in your apartment to play checkers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm telling you, the dynamic of the entire Danes-Mariano family is so complex and interesting and I would twist my nipple for this show to delve into it as much as humanly possible at the expense of pushing Rory and Lorelai to the side (Lorelai off a cliff). I've hit the ceiling for screen shots here on Tumblr.com so here's the last three minutes of the episode: Luke: You need to find a girl you actually care about. Jess: Yah like it's that easy. Luke: Ya huh it's that easy if you try Jess: The girls I like don't give a damn about me. I'm not just gonna sit around hoping they change their minds and notice me, unlike SOME PEOPLE. Luke: Da fuq does that mean Jess: ya fixed any neighbor's porshes *porches lately? Luke: Shut up Jess: I've got a little self esteem Luke: Shut up Jess: Gotta go, Shane's horny again Well, that attempt at the Birds and Bees talk certainly went off the rails. Luke was able to impart to Jess that teenage boys have raging hormones and they tend to like girls and Jess don't be an idiot. It's okay Luke, at least you tried.

'Kids these days...'
Pairing|| N/A, Hades!Daugther!OC
Summary|| Holly was tasked to check on Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. She gets bored while their doing something in Denver, and wanders into a mall
W.C|| 1.2K
Warnings|| the bratty Sephora kids, yeah.
-----------------------------------
Sitting in the table across from Percy was driving Holly insane. Today she had committed one tragedy, having to confront Ares in front of the sassiest kid on the planet. That's not actually the tragedy. The tragedy was being found out by the sassiest on the planet. When Holly's sent out to 'protect' these kids, she is explicitly told not to talk, or reveal herself to them. She had followed this rule to a tee every quest prior, why'd she have to be so dumb now?
Holly picked at a last fry on her plate. She placed down ten dollars on the table and disappeared out of the diner. She was now stuck with nothing to do as those children still sit in the homestyle restaurant.
She walks down the sidewalk, looking at all the 'fun' things to do. Holly hadn't been let out of the camp to do much of the fun teenagery things to do. When she walked her way around to a local mall, it piqued her interest.
Holly pushed open one of the doors to the larger building. She was greeted with cooler air compared to the outdoors. She was reminded of something the god had told her earlier.
'Live your own teenage life for the last seven days that you can,' Ares had told Holly when she mentioned that she wasn't going to be a child in seven days. Holly entered into a giant hallway with stores.
She weaved down one way looking into several of the stores. Holly stopped at one that some campers had told her about. The store was called Sephora. She wanted to know more about one of her campers favourite stores.
She looked around the store before finding a skin care/ sunscreen section. Holly looked at the massive selection. With her godly lineage, she was much paler than half of the camp's population. Holly bit her lip, looking at her extremely pale wrist. She might have needed a stronger sunscreen.
Holly looked at the small price tags before taking a sunscreen in her hands. She scanned the back of the bottle, looking at each of the ingredients. She set the bottle back onto the shelf.
She grabbed a SPF 30 with a bit of bronzer in it. Holly, the more sheltered, shy teenager (as Luke called her) didn't really know what a bronzer was.
"Umm... Are you gonna buy that?" A smaller scoff came from beside her. Holly cocked her head to the side and down. The young girl looked no older than ten.
"I'm not sure, I need to think about it," Holly smiled at the girl.
"Well, I don't think you should, you look like you never go outside," the girl scowled. "Plus, it's the last of the drunk elephant."
"I mean I probably will get it. I use a 70 right now," Holly looked back at the product.
"You actually go outside?" The girl raised her eyebrows.
"Yeah, I work at a summer camp, I'm outside everyday," Holly stepped away a little. She looked back at the girl, and left that area to find an employee. She felt two small eyes glaring at her back.
She turned around to see the girl still looking at her.
"Hi! Are you doing alright?" an employee asked Holly.
"Yeah, no, yeah, I'm doing good. I have a question, what will a bronzer do for me?" Holly looked at the employee. She looked back toward the child.
"A bronzer will just give you a little bit of a glow. Make you a little more tan," the employee smiled.
"And does the lower SPF protect my skin as much?" Holly looked back toward the worker.
"It doesn't protect as well as, like a 60, or 70, but it still prevents against burns. Personally I find I tan better. I think that if you were to get a 30, you'll tan quicker than most, you might not need the bronzer."
"Thank you so much," Holly smiled, looking back at the name tag.
She walked back over toward the sunscreen area. She picked up the other 30 sunscreen she was looking at. She compared the backs as the girl spoke up. "Are you going to buy something?"
"I think I am," Holly placed the bronzer back onto the shelf. The girl flocked to the product, snatching it off the shelf. Holly stared at the girl. "You should pray that the gods don't take their wrath out on you, you know."
"Gods? Like Jesus and God? Because last I checked there is only one god," Holly looked at the girl like she was uneducated. Holly's dark hair followed the pattern her face.
"No, like the Greek gods. Mr. D, the three kindly ones, Hermes?" Holly stared at the girl.
"Those aren't real, that's why they're mythology. And I'm pretty sure Hermes is a disease."
"Hermes is actually gonna be pissed," Holly muttered.
"Did you just say a bad word?," Holly shook her head and walked toward the tills. Three people behind her was the girl. She was spewing off to her mom about Holly.
When Holly reached the till, she offered an older lady with more items to pass in front of her. She never knew if a random stranger was a god testing her.
After letting a few other people pass her, she came head to head once again.
"That's her mom, the girl that said the bad word and the crap about god! I bet she can't even pay for the drunk elephant!"
"Have you ever heard the 'myth' of Baucis an Philemon? A summary goes that Zeus, the kindly one, and Hermes, the messenger god, went around disguised asking for a place to stay. Denied by most, they came to a couple, they were poor yet allowed the gods in. After showing them hospitality, they were granted refuge with the gods, as the others in the town hadn't shown the gods hospitality, so they must destroy the village. Do you think you might know the moral of the story?" Holly spieled.
"I don't understand what you mean?" the girl looked up, she was even sassier than Persassy.
"Well, from what I have been taught, is that if you treat one kindly, even if they seem homely and poor, you can be spared from the wrath of the gods. For one is not always as they seem," Holly left to her register on that note. As the girl and her mother fought about the prices of her products, Holly laughed and payed the cashier with three twenty dollar bills.
"This is thirty dollars much," the cashier said. It was the same employee that helped her earlier.
"Oh is that not enough, you just helped me so much. Take another," Holly smiled, placing down another twenty. She took her sunscreen and left the store. The woman smiled, watching Holly leave. Holly smiled at the good deeds she'd done, and how she'd schooled a child.
As the family left the store Holly smiled at the girl, who was staring. Holly smirked before disappearing without a trace.

Unmasking The Truth Part 4: Penny And Dime
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: After a "lovely" conversation with Castle, things quickly go south. Content: Some cursing, mentions of guns
Tumblr media
It was almost time. You checked your watch, eight twenty-three. You adjusted your shirt collar, audibly swallowing as you thought about what could happen. Eventually, you started to walk nervously around the room, wincing at the sight of the broken windows and hole-riddled walls. Luckily, you had some duct tape lying around, so you were able to patch up the walls until you could get them fixed properly. You checked your watch again. Eight twenty-five.
The world was going slow as clouds in the sky. It paused as you paced around the room, checking your watch every few seconds.
God, eight-thirty didn't seem so far away driving to Harlem and back.
You wished you had just gone to see your friend Luke instead of going to meet Frank Castle… The Punisher. You were so nervous that you started mentally drafting up a list of things you'd rather be doing than this. Sure, all the entries were a tad dramatic for what was really happening at face value, but the fear that resided within the idea left you breathless. Snapping back to reality, you checked your watch again.
It was go time.
You got into your car, driving to the diner. Looking around, taking in the sights. It was a good way to sort of ground yourself after what happened not even three hours ago. You looked at all the neon signs and the dark alleyways that you were sure Matt was scrounging around in. You chuckled to yourself as you thought of what Foggy would do if he knew you were meeting Castle. Knowing how hesitant he was to even take the case? He would practically murder you if he knew.
Eventually, without realizing it, you got to the diner. Parking your car, you got out and leaned against the hood. You sighed, inspecting the diner windows. Everyone else in there was chilling and talking, sipping their drinks and whatnot. However, there was one person who caught your eye. A man in a ball cap sat in the middle aisle seat. The more you looked at him, you saw he had a few bruises on his face. More like a lot of bruises with a few cuts, but, oh well.
You sighed as you headed into the diner, unintentionally passing by the man. "Hey.", he said as he grabbed your wrist. You looked down with a quiet gasp, getting to see a little more of his face. Sighing, you said, "You're Frank?". He nodded as he motioned you to sit down. "Why am I here?", you asked with yet another sigh. "Cause you drove here. As for me? I came because Karen's concerned for you.", Frank said, adjusting his hat down onto his face slightly.
You scoffed as a waitress came up with a coffee pitcher. "Coffee?". "Yes, please.", Frank said, raising his cup. This stopped you from scoffing and genuinely surprised you. Usually, people who were given a life sentence for murder and torture don't usually thank diner waitresses.
"I can take care of myself, you know.", you said, adding some sugar to your coffee. "I don't need someone with your history defending me.". Frank dryly chuckled, expression not changing. "Maybe. But it looked like to me that you were three seconds away from looking like goddamn Swiss cheese.". You rolled your eyes. "Well, I survived, didn't I?".
"Yeah, because of me.", Frank said, taking a swig of his coffee. "I'm sure the bullet-riddled corpse alternative would have been a real hit at your next office reunion.". Your jaw was left on the floor at this. So he's polite to random waitresses, but not to people he saves? You chuckled to yourself realizing you were here questioning the ethics and morals of a tried-and-convicted, now escaped and presumed dead killer.
"Now, listen here.", Frank lowered his voice. Whether to drive his point home or not, you didn't know. "I've only seen people be targeted like that when they're either involved with the mafia or know something they shouldn't know, and usually those things go together.". You swallowed your fear before responding. "Yeah, well, I don't know what to tell you.". Frank shook his head. "You're into something deep. You, and Karen. You need to lay low.". You chuckled dryly, taking another drink of your coffee before responding "If you really know Karen, you know she's not going to do that.". Frank sighed, eyes darting from outside the diner back to you.
He watched as a few people left the diner.
"She's a survivor. If she's not going to, let her do what she needs to do. Just make sure she stays safe out there.", he said with a gruff tone, taking another swig of his coffee.
"Hey, you two lovebirds.", the waitress said. "We're closing.". Frank nodded, pulling out his wallet and dropping a few dollars on the table. "Thank you, ma'am.", he said with a smile. Getting up and adjusting his ball cap, he patted your shoulder and pointed outside. Understanding his message, you headed outside with him. You walked to your car, only for Frank to call out, "Hey!". You turned around with a raised eyebrow, crossing your arms to warm up due to the cold air surrounding you.
"Your place ain't completely shot up, is it?". You shook your head, walking back closer to him as it started to rain. "No, I- I can stay there. I could use some new drywall, but I can call a friend.".
Frank nodded, but just as he was about to walk away and leave you to do the same, you heard a bang. Suddenly, something bounced off a car nearby, nearly hitting you, making you squeak and duck. Frank tensed up, pulling out a gun from under his shirt, yelling to you one word.
"Drive!".
You nodded, a few tears falling from your eyes. Practically jumping into your car, you kicked it into fifth gear, speeding off. You sobbed as you sped away from the diner, hearing more gunshots from your car. Driving around never felt more safe then right now, especially considering what the hell was happening previously. But, even with the warzone going on in your thoughts, you realized you were speeding, and you slammed the breaks as you did. You needed to get yourself together.
Foggy. You needed Foggy.
Speeding off to his apartment, you thought about what the hell you would even say to him. He didn't know you knew Frank Castle, let alone you talked to him. Jesus, you thought to yourself. If your brain was racing with everything he might say, how could you think about what you could say? "Hey, Foggy, I had a coffee date with Frank Castle and almost got shot, can I crash at your place?".
Oh god, he was going to kill you.

Author notes: So sorry it took so long for this one to come out! I wanted to wait to actually experience Frank as a character to properly write him. Thank you to my mother for helping me write Frank properly! Because she's a huge Punisher fan. Thanks to @harleycao for motivating me to keep writing this! <3

family line - luke danes
Tumblr media
luke danes x fem!reader
summary: things get a little complicated when your boyfriends nephew comes to stay with him
warnings: smoking, family trouble, a bit of angst, mention of cheating but it isn’t happening?, language, readers parents are 💀
word count: 3k (this was supposed to be short)
as you woke up in bed, you rolled over to find luke’s side of the bed empty, and squinted at the clock on his nightstand; you’d slept in.
“oh crap,” you hurried to get dressed and presentable before heading downstairs to work. as you walked in, you noticed luke was on the phone, and he didn’t sound too happy with whoever he was talking to. lorelai was behind the counter grabbing donuts and putting them in a bag, while a group of boy scouts waited in line.
“okay fine,” he said loudly. “do what you want- make the arrangements. now i’m working, we’ll finish this later!” he hung up the phone with a clang.
“is everything okay?” lorelai asked, and you gave luke a worried look as you tied an apron around your waist.
“do either of you have a sister?” he asked.
“uhm, no.”
“no,” you agreed. in the six months you had been with luke, family had never really come up as a topic of dicussion; and that was more than okay with you.
“i do!” one of the boy scouts piped up.
“you have my sympathies,” luke sighed, and disappeared into the back.
“here, i’ll ring you through,” you offered to lorelai, who happily cut in front of the line.
“do you know what that was all about?” she asked, and you shook your head.
“no idea,” you answered honestly, telling her the total for the donuts as rory pestered her to hurry up.
after helping the boy scouts order and pay for their food, you went to find luke, who was sitting in the storage room organizing cans on the shelf.
“hey, sorry i was late,” you said softy.
“that’s okay, it was quiet this morning. i thought i’d let you sleep in,” he replied.
“when is it your turn to sleep in?” you teased.
“never.”
“that’s what i thought,” you sighed. “i take it that wasn’t a customer calling to place an order?”
“no,” he sighed. “it was my sister. her son - jess, my nephew is gonna stay with me for a while.”
“is your sister okay?”
“define okay,” he replied, and you gave him a look. “nothing happened to her, she just can’t control him anymore. he’s getting into trouble and she’s given up taking care of him, so she’s sending him here.”
“i see,” you nodded.
“you’re mad i didn’t ask you,” he suggested, and you shook your head.
“no, luke of course not. he’s your family, and it’s your apartment not mine,” you disagreed. “i think it’s nice that you want to help him, and your sister.”
“but?”
“but what?” you asked.
“there’s a but,” he insisted, and you sighed.
“but,” you exaggerated, raising an eyebrow. “are you sure you’re ready for this kind of responsibility?”
“you don’t think i can do it?” he asked, stopping his shelf organizing to look at you.
“it’s not that i don’t think you can, of course i do. i just - think it might be a little more difficult than you’re expecting, thats all. so if you need any help-“
“i’ll be fine,” he insisted.
“okay.”
“but thank you,” he added, kissing your forehead softly, before walking back out to help a customer who’d been ringing the service bell.
“you better be on fire or else calm down; i’m on my way!” he called, and the ringing stopped.
you sighed, wondering if luke knew what he was getting himself into.
you only worked half days at the diner so you decided to give luke some space and go back to your house for a while, tidying up a bit since you’d been at luke’s the night before.
flopping down on the couch, you scrolled through the tv channels looking for something to watch, but failed to find anything that interested you.
after making some lunch and doing some chores around the house, you went out to buy some groceries and stopped by the diner to see how luke was doing just after dinner.
“hey,” you smiled, the bell above the door altering him to your presence.
“hey, back already?”
“i’m just passing by. i’m going to the grocery store - do you need me to grab anything for you while i’m there?” you asked, but he shook his head.
“nah i think i got everything all stocked up earlier.”
“is he here already?” you asked.
“yeah, i picked him up from the bus stop an hour ago. you might run into him while you’re out and about.”
“he went out already?” you asked.
“yeah, i think he wanted to uh… see the town,” luke sounded unsure.
“honey-“
“it’s fine, i’m sure he just needs some time to get used to being here. that’s all.”
“you’re right,” you agreed. “not to go into the gorey details but i’ve been in his place before and it’s not easy. no matter how great the person you’re staying with is,” you held his hand on the counter for a second, and he looked like he wanted to ask what you meant, but just smiled instead.
“thanks. i’ll see you later?”
“i was thinking i’d give you guys some space - let him settle in on his own for at least the first night. i’ll see you tomorrow though?” you offered, and he nodded in agreement.
your mind was distracted as you shopped for a few things at the store; luke’s nephew being in town was bringing up some memories that you’d spent years trying to forget. memories of your own adolescence. you just hoped things were easier for luke and jess than they had been for you.
it was nearly eleven at night when there was a knock on the door. after a quick glance through the window, you opened the door to see luke standing there.
“hey - what’s going on is everything okay?”
“uh yeah, sure,” he replied, walking past you and into the house, and you shut the door, walking into the living room to find him sitting on the couch.
“luke?”
“yeah.”
“shouldn’t you be at home with jess? i thought you guys were going to hang out?”
“yeah, uh he went out.”
“he went out?”
“yeah. i think i scared him off,” he sighed, and you took a seat next to him, placing a hand reassuringly on his knee.
“what happened?”
“nothing - lorelai invited me to bring him by for dinner tomorrow, so he can meet her and rory, and he asked if i wanted to play poker and then left,” he shrugged.
“ahh i see.”
“see what?” he asked, and you sighed.
“when i was 17, i got into a lot of trouble - like jess. my parents - may they rot in hell - were assholes who hated me and sent me to live with my aunt. lovely woman - had no idea what to do with me.”
“you’re saying i have no idea what i’m doing?”
“i’m saying, it doesn’t matter if you do everything right, sometimes a kid like that has to decide to come around on their own.”
“why didn’t you ever tell me your parents were dead?”
“i guess it never came up,” you shrugged.
“i’m sorry.”
“don’t be,” you shook your head. “the only thing they ever gave me was the ability to lie about where i was going and which floorboards to step on so they didn’t catch me sneaking out. i’m better off without them.”
“i had no idea.”
“i don’t really talk about them, you had no way to know. i’m okay now. my life is better than i ever imagined it could be, and i have you in part to thank for it,” you kissed his cheek softly, and he wrapped his arm around you, pulling you to lean against his side.
“well i’m glad i could be of service,” he kissed you softly.
“jess will come around, luke. just give him some time. my first night after my parents sent me away i stole a car and lived in it for a week.”
“really?” he asked, looking nervous as if he thought jess might do the same.
“no,” you laughed and he relaxed. “but it did take me a while to settle in.”
“is it a bad time to mention that i told lorelai you would come to dinner tomorrow?”
“of course i’ll be there,” you smiled, snuggling into his side after pressing another soft kiss to his lips.
“i should probably get going in case he comes back to the apartment. he doesn’t have a key.”
“you didn’t give me a key?” you asked with a slight laugh.
“he said he didn’t need one,” luke shrugged.
“ah - you have a locksmith on your hands.”
“you think he can pick locks?” he asked.
“it’s not that hard-“ you raised your hands as he shor you a disapproving glance. “kidding.”
“very funny,” he rolled his eyes playfully. “i really should get home.”
“five more minutes?” you asked, clinging to him tighter so he couldn’t leave the couch.
“okay,” he conceded. “five minutes.”
“hey, perfect timing!” lorelai greeted as you stood with luke and jess at her front door. “sookie is about to break the record for the most food served outside of the roman empire.”
“sounds great,” luke replied.
“sure does,” jess agreed. though far less sincerely. the introduction between you and luke’s nephew had gone about as well as you’d expected, but you tried to remember how you felt each time your aunt brought home someone new, so you weren’t taking anything he said too personally.
“so, come on in,” lorelai offered, and jess followed her into the house, looking at some pictures on the wall before finding his way to rory’s room after being introduced to sookie and jackson.
everyone got ready to sit down at the table, rory explaining that jess was just grabbing a soda, before you realized you didn’t have a drink and went to grab one. jess was no where to be seen when you got in there, and you stepped outside to find him on the porch with a beer bottle, which he opened with the railing of the porch.
“not hungry?” you asked, holding your hand out for him to hand over the beer, which he did with a sigh.
“not really,” he agreed.
“don’t worry - i won’t tell anyone about the beer, just don’t let lorelai catch you doing it again.”
“thanks, you’re my hero,” he said sarcastically. “you gonna make me come back inside?” he asked, and you shook your head.
“no, if i was you i wouldn’t want to be in there either to be honest,” you sighed. “lorelai is trying to be nice but all this can be … kind of overwhelming.”
“yeah,” he mumbled.
“did the party move out here and no one bothered to tell us?” lorelai asked, emerging from the kitchen door.
“i’ll be right in, i think jess wants to get some fresh air,” you said, pretty sure she wasn’t gonna like that answer.
“sookie made you a grilled cheese if you don’t like pot roast,” she offered in a sing song voice.
“wow. if i’d have known that-“ jess said mockingly. you knew lorelai was only trying to help luke, but you had a feeling that she was just going to make things worse.
“you really don’t want to be here,” she gathered.
“what gave you that idea?” he teased.
“look, i’ve done this whole act before - but you’ve got a really good thing here with luke, he’s a really great guy. he really wants to take care of you and make things right for you. you’re incredibly lucky to have him,” lorelai went on and on, and even you felt awkward, taking a step back to sit on the porch swing.
“lorelai-“ you started to tell her to tone it down a little, but she ignored you. you knew luke didn’t want her meddling in the situation, him being very much an ‘if i want help i’ll ask for it’ and then never ask type of guy.
“if you give this situation half a chance, you might be suprised at how good it can be, and how much you like living here, and how good it feels to have someone like luke that you can really depend on.”
“that’s funny, i thought she,” he pointed to you. “was his girlfriend. are you sleeping with him too, or something?” jess asked, and though it was inappropriate to say the least, you barely stifled a laugh. it sounded exactly like something you would’ve said when you were his age, and lorelai was definitely laying it on pretty thick about luke.
“excuse me?”
“the whole starry eyed ‘you’re so much better off, just give it a chance’ speech. you’re either really naive, or you’re getting some,” he said, before turning to you. “sorry this might be how you find out you’re getting cheated on.”
“jess, come on-“ you sighed.
“this is my house, and i choose how i get talked to in it.”
“you know, you don’t know anything about me, or my life, or my mom, or luke, so why don’t you doctor laura someone else.”
“i’m going inside, you better not have taken that beer from my fridge,” she pointed to the bottle you had set on the table, grabbing it on her way inside and slamming the porch door.
“that wasn’t very neighborly now was it?” jess mumbled, more to himself than to you, you decided.
“hey, i’m not gonna give you a speech or anything-“
“sounds like you are.”
“she means well, even if she can be a bit… much, sometimes,” you said, crossing your arms over your chest.
“if i have to hear about how perfect my life is now one more time i might go stand in traffic,” he huffed, and to your surprise, he sat down on the opposite end of the porch swing, the chain creaking as he did.
“it’s not worth your time; no one here drives fast enough to do any damage,” you offered, and he almost smiled.
jess pulled a cigarette from his pocket and lit it, earning a side eye from you, and he sighed as he handed it over. you put it out in a small puddle of water on the porch and tossed it in the bin outside the kitchen door, before you heard luke and lorelai arguing in the kitchen.
“they fight like a married couple too,” jess added, and you laughed.
“i can’t disagree with you.”
“you sure they’re not-“
“they’re not. don’t bring it up again,” you advised, and he raised his hands in mock surrender as luke stormed out of the gilmore house.
“let’s go,” he said, looking at the two of you, and jess didn’t hesitate to get up and start walking, and in that moment you were just as eager as he was to get away from the gilmore house.
“i think i should go home. call me tomorrow?”
“you’re ditching me?” luke asked.
“no, i just think me being here isn’t really helping, and maybe you guys need some time to talk. i’ll come to yours if you want me to.”
“he’s had more of a conversation with you than he has with me,” luke argued, and you sighed, looking down at your feet. “i’m sorry, you’re right. i’ll see you tomorrow.”
“okay. i love you,” you said, giving him a kiss before he hurried to catch up with jess, and you started your walk home.
for the second time that week, luke showed up at your house unexpectedly, and you opened the door to let him inside. it was your day off work so you hadn’t talked to him since last night, and he still seemed pretty upset.
“hey, what’s up?” you asked.
“i just pushed him in a lake.”
“what?” you asked, raising your eyebrows.
“jess. i got this call from taylor that he thinks jess stole the bridge money and i went for confront him and he was being impossible and i just pushed him in. this is bad,” he trailed off mumbling to himself.
“hey maybe it’s not as bad as you think it is,” you tried to calm him down. “how good of a swimmer is he?”
“he’s fine,” he sighed. “he’s wet. i just - i lost it. you’re right; i am in so far over my head i can’t even see my own hat.”
“have you tried turning it around?” you teased, and he gave you a look.
“what was I thinking why did I say yes to this?”
“because you wanted to help him.”
“raising a kid - i don’t even like kids! they’re always sticky, like they’ve got jam on their hands. even if there’s no jam in the house, somehow they’ve always got jam on their hands. i’m not the right guy to deal with that. i have no patience for jam hands!” he spiralled.
“luke, honey. slow down,” you shushed him. “he’s a teenager, not a toddler, so i think you probably don’t have to worry about the jam thing, and you can absolutely do this. but it’s going to take more than two days and an air mattress for you guys to become best friends.”
“i swear i’m gonna kill liz,” he interrupted.
“liz isn’t here. jess is, and you cannot give up on him yet. i know this is not going how you planned but imagine how he must feel.”
“maybe you could talk to him - he doesn’t hate you like he hates me.”
“he does not hate you, luke. he doesn’t know you,” you corrected. “if you want me to talk to him i can try but i don’t know how much that will help. i can’t parent him for you. he’s living under your roof not mine.”
“you’re right,” he sighed.
“as always,” you teased, kissing him on the cheek. “do you want to stay for dinner since you’re here?”
“nah i gotta go find a gnome.”
“excuse me?”
“babette’s gnome - long story.”
“i don’t want to know,” you laughed, and he pulled you into a hug.
“thank you, for talking me out of the crazy tree.”
“you’re welcome. he just needs more time to adjust - his whole life got flipped upside down overnight,” you sympathized. “and so did yours. you need to adjust to this too. just - try not to push him in anymore lakes?” you suggested as luke stepped out the door.
“no promises,” he smiled, before leaving to go find the missing gnome, and you shook your head as you closed the door behind him. at least things were never boring in stars hollow.

eumoirous: happiness due to being honest & wholesome
stars hollow was the dream town. it was a town full of popcorn smells, charming classic stores that had been there a hundred years, and people full of love. one woman in particular caught your attention the moment you moved to town. being new in such an old-timer town, full of such a tight knit group, was impossible. the judgmental looks and small town talks. you were in town for an hour and met one person, your neighbor andrew. and a rumor about you moving to start in a new life because you committed vehicular manslaughter was the new gossip.
despite the lack of welcome from the town with a population of one thousand, seven hundred, and seventy-nine. there was one person that happened to like the smile on your face as you unpacked your floral lamp from the truck. your hair pulled back in a ponytail, your moving clothes already causing a stain. two girls approached you from the sidewalk, two coffees in their hands. the taller one was the first to speak, something weird you couldn't focus on the moment you looked into her bright eyes. it was when the shorter one, with lighter hair, smiled at you. "hi, you're the new girl. the talk of the town."
"guess so," you had chuckled nervously as you wiped your hands against your jeans and held it toward for the young girl to shake. she didn't seem older than seventeen or eighteen. but she had a warm smile. "nice to meet you, i'm rory. this is my mom, lorelai. welcome to stars hollow."
"thank you. i'm y/n." you had responded chirping with a bright grin. happy that you had found some normal human beings in this small town. the two (very weakly) helped you carry in a few items. until rory had to head off to school that morning. leaving you alone with lorelai gilmore, an inn owner you had learned. the two of you couldn't hold in the laughter as she helped you unpack a few things. the unpacking leading to way too much spiked coffee and laughs on the still wrapped couch. the two of you talked for hours and you hadn't ever felt so close to someone so quickly.
you started with flowers out of your vintage van. painted sage green with your logo in a light yellow. paintings of flowers lined the outside, something you had done your own. it was incredibly beautiful and special. driving around to the local businesses to sell flowers to those who wanted them. after a day of selling several sets of roses, tulips, sunflowers, daises and any other flowers you found beautiful. it was when you stopped for dinner at the local diner, luke's. one lorelai raved about to you days ago. the moment you stepped in you noticed the two girls once again. both ushered you over and you enjoyed a dinner with the two full of way too much junk food. that the diner man scolded you for.
it had been three years since that night. since the night you and the gilmore girls had become quite personal with one another. you honestly would consider the two your family by now. lorelai being there when you had the flu for a week. and you being there for rory's first day of college, the opening of lorelai's inn, the day your dear mother died — two many breakups on all of your behalfs. the three of you were inseparable. you were an honorary gilmore.
the first rule of the gilmore girls is no secrets. at least that's what they told you when you were welcomed into their family years ago. so when you and lorelai held a deepened secret from rory, something you had hidden for months at this point. you had started dating lorelai gilmore exactly two months ago. but your feelings for one another had lasted for longer than you could ever know.
hiding the relationship from rory was a wish made by lorelai the moment the two of you first shared a kiss. you understood it and still did. rory was always her priority, something you admired. she didn't want to do this and tell rory if it would just mess up the relationship and make it messy. but after two months, you could feel the annoyance grow. "i'll tell her another time" or "she's stressed right now, i don't want to make her shave her head!" or even "it's not the right time."
you were falling in love with her — three years in the process. this wasn't some rash decision to hide and you started to feel like you had just moved to town again. lorelai was embarrassed of you, in your mind at least. but the weeks without rory as she prepped for her midterms at harvard made being annoyed at lorelai even more difficult. too much alone time and too many kisses. god, you loved her so much.
the night of your second month anniversary was something you had been planning for days. it was four-thirty when you used your spare key to get into the gilmore house. an hour before lorelai would be off work. you decorated the house in several bouquets of roses, specifically in her bedroom. starting on dinner, something simple but absolutely delicious. a dish you had learned when you were little and known your entire life. you made it often but lorelai loved it so — it seemed perfect. by the time you had changed into a dress that you knew would make your girlfriend drool, she was already walking through the door.
a black dress covering her torso matching a sparkling cardigan. she looked as beautiful as ever, a bright smile on her face as she threw her purse on the chair. her eyes locked on you. "burglars break into houses looking that hot? i didn't see that in home alone."
"happy anniversary, lor." you greeted as the girl walked forward, firmly pressing her lips to yours. it felt much needed and much desired. her hand danced through your hair, her other brushing the waist on your dress. your lips danced for a moment as you pulled away in a hum. a pout proudly held on lorelai's face. "more kiss, or die!"
you pressed your lips to hers one more time. preparing for a simple kiss before you dined together. except, the kiss led way farther than anticipated. your arms wrapping around one another as she pushed you back lightly into the wall. your hand grasped the back of her neck, pulling her deeper into you. there were moments of the kiss until you pulled apart. a look lost on your face, a familiar one as you grabbed her hand and ran upstairs and into her room. the food could wait.
it was only moments later that the front door opened. a pair of boots clicking. rory gilmore took off her shoes and her jacket, her eyes glancing around the room. she noticed her mother and her family friend's cars outside. they were here unless they decided to walk to luke's in the spring weather. the girl immediately smelled the food on the stovetop — filling her nose quickly. rory made her way into the kitchen, noticing the hot food. she took a bite of it with a goofy grin. a shuffle from upstairs catching her attention.
"mom!" rory called out through the house, the food muffling her voice. she heard no reply and made her way up towards the stairs. hoping it wasn't some stars hollow axe murderer. she was already upstairs when she and noticed the roses, tilting her head in confusion. she had seen the movies, she knew of the romantic gesture. but her mother lacked any relationship in her life. i mean maybe she had seen a little over happy the past few months but that was nothing crazy for lorelai gilmore. so rory entered with caution, hoping to a) not find a killer b) not find her mother naked. guess which was half wrong!
"what the- ah!" rory screeched as she ran back in the hallway upon her current viewing. lorelai gilmore had never jumped up so fast, throwing her dress back over her exposed bra. her girlfriend sat below her, widened eyes. she attempted to fix her messy hair as lorelai ran after her daughter. "rory!"
"mh... i'm leaving!" the girl yelled as she ran down the stairs, her mother trailing behind her. "where did you get this athletic genes, jesus!"
"i'll just leave you guys- girls to it! ha, um." rory entered the foyer before her mother stopped her. rory gilmore had never expected to see what she saw. she always saw y/n y/l/n as a family figure, as someone truly important to her. and she knew her mother felt the same way but not this way. "rory, c'mere. i- darn you. i need to talk to you."
the girl huffed as she turned to face her mother. "you missed a rose petal there," she mumbled as she pointed to the petal in the woman's hair. she formed a small smile as she wiped it out of her own hair. a hand holding her daughter's forearm. "rory, i'm sorry. i- i should have told you i know. but i didn't want to ruin your relationship with her."
"ruin relati- just. mom, what?" the girl's voice went extremely high. only dogs being able to hear her at this point. lorelai wrapped her arms around herself as she sighed, you coming up from behind the both of them. rory gave you and awkward look, it being difficult to look at you at this moment. knowing you were just about to nail her mother. "look, rory, i'm sorry. i'm so sorry. but i was scared. because i know this-" she ushered between you and her. "-is something new. and just something you're not used to. i didn't want to scare you away or frighten you in anyway. i'm still mom, and y/n's still y/n."
the girl sighed softly as she looked between the both of you. she brushed a hand through her hair turning towards you. "are you serious about her? like you're not gonna pull a brad pitt?"
"so serious, rory, i promise. you're mother means everything to me and i'm sorry you were left out of this. because even though it's our relationship, you are your mother's first concern and responsibility. you come first and you also do in my book as well. you know i love you kid. so you should have been involved, because this affects you just as much as it does us." you explained making lorelai bite her lip. she felt bad for keeping this from rory. she knew this was her fault. but she also knew, what you just said, meant everything to her.
"well okay," rory smiled softly as she leaned forward and pulled you into a hug. following then by hugging her mother who looked at you over her shoulder. a look of apology on her face as you flashed her a small smile — one forgiving. "so, um... the fancy dinner and petals? i'm assuming this is a celebration of some sort."
"two months. two very amazing months," lorelai smiled towards you as she reached for your hand and squeezed it tightly. resulting in a smile from the girl you had watched grow up. "well congratulations guys. i love you both."

Question for you, had Jess came back in S7 and Logan just gone for good (never to be mentioned ever again) and had he & Rory got back together? How do you think Richard & Emily would have treated Jess?
Hmm! Well, I have a few more questions, I guess... In this alternate reality, have Milo and Alexis broken up yet? And was Milo not busy with Heroes? Also, were the Palladinos still involved with the show or not?
For simplicity's sake, let's just pretend that Milo was available and still dating Alexis and somehow still willing to be involved with the show that had been taken away from his close friends, the original creators of the show. The only difference is that Matt Czuchry had other commitments instead. (I'm sorry if all these practicalities are irrelevant to you, haha! But I feel like so many of the writing decisions on this show were directly related to situations with the people MAKING the show)
With all other writing circumstances being the same, I feel like a natural point of reconnection would be Jess coming to help out Luke after the diner got crashed into and/or looking after Luke in the aftermath of the breakup between Luke and Lorelai. They would also bring Jess back to get him involved with Liz's pregnancy and meeting his little sister, probably. Who knows at what point on that timeline they'd progress from Friends to More than Friends, but a lot of fanfics have dealt with those storylines and those seem to work pretty naturally. How would Richard and Emily treat Jess? Oh, well... I don't think they'd like him very much, haha. He is lower class and not college-educated, and those things mean a lot (too much) to people like them. I don't know, maybe they'd start to reluctantly thaw a bit if Jess showed up at the hospital when Richard had the heart attack and they saw how much he cares for Rory and vice-versa. Maybe Richard would grow to have a begrudging respect for Jess's intellect. (Now I'm picturing Richard wanting to invest in Truncheon (the way he wanted to franchise Luke's diner) to try to ensure that Jess would at least be able to "support" Rory, and how uncomfortable and torn Jess would be about it, haha. But I don't know if the Season 7 writers would have thought to go there?). Yeah, I don't know exactly!
