As a veggie person, what are your dietary staples? Also do you actually account for protein and nutrition values or do you just eat? I’m not creative in the kitchen so I kind of just eat
oh wowie!! ok to be a responsible person i'm prefacing this by saying i am NOT a doctor/dietician/qualified medical professional in any capacity, i am just a person who is alive and who is sustaining that vitality in this particular way because it works for me!!
i'm a lot like you in that i just eat without being particularly or overly conscious of it. i've been vegan for almost a decade so i have figured out a way to feed myself that meets the needs of my body but that can look very different for every person. pls don't take this as gospel it's just what works for me <3
the bulk of my diet is just straight up fruits/vegetables. lots of whole grains/starches/carbs (rice, pasta, quinoa, etc.—not a lot of bread just bc i don't tend to eat it quick enough but i'm not remotely opposed to it!!) i get my protein predominantly from tofu/edamame (soy)/legumes/HUMMUS!! and I do regularly eat plant-based protein bars/protein supplemented snacks because it's something I'm concious of possibly not getting enough of in my diet otherwise. there's a bit of healthy fat in my diet too from things like nuts/seeds and their butters, and protein from that too, but definitely not enough to say that it's a huge part of my overall consumption.
i eat mainly whole foods at this point in my veganism, so while i appreciate the wide variety of dairy and meat alternatives that are on the market (a LIFETIME away from what was available when i went plant based) they don't make up a large/regular part of my diet. def still fuck w a vegan grilled cheese or veggie chicken nugget every once in a while!! but cheese alternatives are probably like... i buy them maybe once a month? veggie meat is probably only 4-5 times a year tbh! eating out at restaurants is different obviously, but in terms of what i'm eating at home i'd say those numbers are accurate!!
i need to also point out that i DO supplement (or try to lol) iron/b12 (b12 shots usually), and as we go into winter i'm gonna pick up some vitamin d and possibly an omega 3! i think supplementing vitamins is important for lots of ppl (not just vegetarians/vegans!) and if you can you should talk to your doctor about what might be a good option for you :)
love u! eat what makes you feel good! dress warm!

thinkin about a post i saw earlier of someone saying they get really weak when they go vegan... my friend, you are doing everything wrong if that's the case. aside from whatever health issues you may have that prevents you (i've yet to actually hear of any specific health issues that prevent someone from going vegan, maybe being allergic to legumes and soy? or an allergy to nuts etc.? otherwise... i remain kinda skeptical when someone says this, I often feel like ppl say this so they dont have to keep thinking about it), there's lot of things to consider when going vegan and its really important to talk to a nutritionist if you can before you do it.
some things to consider:
you will need to find a source of iron. theres plenty of veggies when eaten in high enough quantities that will provide iron (spinach, an obv choice). it's also wild to assume that you're supposed to get iron from ONE source of food, ideally you eat multiple things throughout the day that have an ok amount of iron that when added up over the day = the daily value you need, you dont need one big block of iron rich food to get all of your iron (and this goes for all food honestly, no reason you need to get all of your nutrients from one food per se. I dont think convenience should ever really be favored over whats ethical)
you'll need a source of omega vitamins. typically this can be found in seaweed, seeds or nuts, but ultimately it might be easier to just buy some supplements (if ur like me and dont like eating nuts a lot :/)
you'll need a way to get vitamin K2, I trust that you're able to do your own research enough to know where to find it, for now I'll tell you it can easily be obtained from saurkraut, natto, kimchi, and dandelions
there are multiple types of protein. this is probably whats tripping you up if you've already covered everything else. these proteins, or more specifically amino acids, are: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. you will need to eat complete proteins that have all of these covered, which is why often people tell you to pair rice with beans since together they are a complete protein. there used to be a website I knew of that listed the different sources of each amino acid, but if you're up to it (im not rn) id suggest looking each amino acid up and finding what food sources have them in it, you'll likely find that multiple amino acids are in one food and that another food has the rest of the amino acids- combined they make a complete protein. oh and also there are some protein powders out there that have all of the amino acids you need, so i'd suggest searching those out (make sure to look at the nutrition info, I used garden of life protein powder) bc you can easily dump that in a smoothie and there ya go.
the problem with going vegan isn't not getting enough nutrients typically, it's that it can be very hard and costly to buy everything you need. it's likely not that you CANT go vegan (unless you have specific allergies or something) just that you were never taught the best way on how to. it all boils down to nutrition, and if you're able to get all these nutrients locked down and be consistent about eating all the nutrients you need, you'll likely not have any issues being vegan, if you do that's something to bring up to a nutritionist, because vegan diets are healthy insofar as you can get all the nutrients you need, and some of us are too poor to consistently be able to buy all these different things. in that case, i'd suggest being a "reducetarian" (thats basically what I am, i'm vegan philosophically and would be more vegan if I had the cash...), rely on vegan alternatives but eat eggs or something here n there if necessary. what I do know is most people dont need to eat meat consistently every day and distrust anyone who tells you otherwise, quite frankly. eating it 2-3 times a week is sufficient from what I've read.

My parents had contractors coming into our suite again so the kid and I left early to run a few errands. Unfortunately, my errands only took about 30 minutes and we had to think of something else to do.
We went for lunch and I had a turkey wrap with lots of veggies. The kid had a clubhouse sandwich. I also had to go to the post office. We peeked around a few stores. I also decided to bite the bullet and invest in some vitamins. I hate buying vitamins. Most of the time your body doesn’t absorb them and you just wind up with expensive pee. So why did I buy some this time? Well, I’m going back on the bone strengthening iv medication. I need a decent calcium supplement for that as it removes it from your blood. I haven’t been very consistent with taking one because I knew I was getting enough in my diet. Plus, taking a calcium supplement is a pain in the ass. It binds to your other medications so you have to remember to take them a few hours later (or before) and I always forget and blah blah blah. The Cancer Agency strongly recommends me taking calcium so I’ll be going back on it.
Tumblr media
I also got iron and B12. I had to take iron back-in-the-day because my ferritin levels were like 3 and I had days where I felt like I could just curl up on the floor at work and pass out. I was anemic because I was running a ton, a vegan and menstruating. None of which I am doing now. Currently, I’m low on both because of the medications I’m on. So I’m not sure if this will even help. Not to mention, taking an iron supplement takes months and months to kick in. It’s painfully slow watching those numbers creep back up to the “normal” range again. (I think it took close to 6 months last time.) Iron can also bind to other medications too, so it’s a pain in the ass to schedule when to take it so it doesn’t interfere with my drugs. But, I’m going to try. I guess I’ll need to have various alarms for when I should take everything. B12 is a little different. Taking an injection is the best way to go. It kicks in within a few days. Orally, it takes a few weeks. I used to take B12 (or a B complex solution) regularly as well. Anyway, that’s my big soapbox speech about vitamins for today. 😂 I’m not a doctor and it’s always best to talk to a health care professional when deciding on taking a new vitamin or supplement.
After that, the kid and I had a nice walk and then we sat in the sun for a bit in lounge chairs close to the water.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It got hot fast out there so we decided to go see a movie called Past Lives. I didn’t think I could last for a whole movie. Our local movie theatre seats suck but we got there early and grabbed a couple of spots in the back row so I could kind of “sprawl” out. It’s a tiny theatre and luckily, not too many people were there.
Tumblr media
I took a 1/4 of a pain pill to help me get through it. The movie was subtitled and the the first thing the kid said to me when it started was, “Can you read that?” Luckily, it was big enough so I could. lol. I didn’t have my glasses. The movie itself was one of those artsy fartsy flicks with unique camera angles and long pauses within the dialogue. I did enjoy it. The kid wasn’t as enthralled with the storyline but I didn’t mind it.
I also finally got my results back for my tumour markers. They’re stable. Like, the same as they were 2 months ago. I know my CT results came back and I haven’t heard anything either which is a good sign. lol. Tumour marker tests have been a good measurement for me when things are going well (or bad). So, this is a relief. I’ll know more next week with what might be going on in my sacroiliac region. Could just be arthritis. The rest of my family is riddled with it - maybe it’s my turn.
I’ve managed to get out 2 days in a row for long-ish days. Tomorrow I have to take the kid to an appointment into the city so it’ll also be a long-ish day, again. For now, I’m going to make a cup of tea, get the kid ready for their music therapy session and I’m going to read my book.

I was writing, but then I came upon the fact that I don’t actually know what a healthy diet for my 300-600 pound reptiles would look like.
If you plan to keep reading, please tighten your seatbelts, not because this is exciting, but because we’ll be taking 90 degree turns at 45mph.  This is basically just me researching out loud so people can see my process.  Also, I will be mentioning various parts of animals that may make some people queasy.
Useveu are a species of intelligent, flight-capable reptiles that, in adulthood, stand between 6 to 9 feet high on average and weight roughly (so roughly) 300 to 600 pounds on average.  They are carnivores, but they live closely to humans, and would therefore eventually incorporate other types of foods into their diets.
(I think it’s worth it to note that the humans who live in countries where Useveu are common almost always have a vegetarian diet.  There are logistical and social reasons for this.)
Reptiles like komodo dragons and snakes can eat pretty much every kind of meat.  Bones and organs are definitely going to be in an Usevuth’s diet, as well.  Reptiles like geckos, however, seem to need veggies, and one thing I read specifically said to make sure geckos are getting enough calcium.
Komodo dragons and snakes eat their prey’s bones, but a gecko isn’t big enough to eat vertebrates.  Pet birds, also, are said to need calcium-rich diets, and we humans go crazy for calcium supplements, but again, pet birds and song birds don’t get opportunities to eat bones, and humans don’t exactly make an effort to eat them.
So maybe Useveu won’t naturally need calcium-rich vegetables.  And maybe they don’t need to avoid phosphorous if their intake of bone is high enough.  But they are a social species living with another social species, and both have relatively high populations, and they have to pay for their food.
Poor Useveu will largely exist off of chicken, eggs, and probably fish for their meats.  These are all high in calcium when consumed whole.  But there are more dietary needs than that.  Useveu are huge animals, and in whatever wild conditions their bodies evolved to cope with, they definitely eat red meat.  If their body relies on red meat in their diet but they’re too poor to afford meat from larger animals, this could lead to iron and vitamin B deficiencies.
I think the bottom line for the fact of whether these guys are getting everything they need from a diet of animals is pretty straightforward.  If they are consuming healthy animals whole, they themselves will be healthy.  This is with the sole exception of deficiencies from being unable to afford red meats.  These can probably be compensated for with the purchase of blood (iron, affordable) and whatever amounts of liver (B vitamins, expensive) can be managed.
My questions becomes what non-animal items an Usevuth can eat off of a human’s plate.
I know for a fact that Usevase (males) will have citrus in their diets.  But citrus fruits require a substantial amount of water to grow, and in a pre industrial revolution world where there are no freshwater rivers or lakes particularly nearby, these foods become expensive.  However, there are trains, which can extend the reach of an affordable citrus belt.  Flying to buy or deliver groceries like this would be impractical and expensive, since the quantity of products would be small for such a long distance.
Citrus fruits contain a lot of oils, acids, and vitamin C.  Usevase have a bodily use for the oils (which can be harmful to digestion in other animals), and will build a tolerance to the acids.  Psoralen, which is a substance that can cause cell damage when combined with sunlight in the skin, would be mostly harmless to Useveu thanks to their scales.
So citrus doesn’t pose a threat to my reptiles that I have to worldbuild around.  Then I look to staples of human vegetarian diets that will grow in the climate I’m looking at, as these will be foods Useveu are most likely to ingest.
Vegetarian staples are largely going to be protein-rich foods, like lentils, beans, quinoa, and eggs.  My climate can’t grow quinoa, but soy and lentil are fine.  Another good food would probably be brown rice, which can grow in this climate, as well.  Looking at its contents for things that could hurt a reptile, I see unfamiliar things like selenium and manganese, but both are water soluble and will be passed by the body once it has the amount it needs.  Bread is another thing that will likely find its way into an Usevuth’s diet, and wheat is both accessible and appears to be non-toxic.
Last on the list of human foods I’m going to bother worrying about is cabbage, which appears to be completely fine for reptiles.  Some species have trouble due to acidity or phosphorous levels in various breeds of cabbage, but this shouldn’t be a problem for Useveu.
So there I have it.  I wasted what must have been almost an hour and a half finding out that nothing I was trying to feed my reptiles was actually going to hurt them.  But at least now I know!

You're amazing! Happy birthday! I hope you like the assortment of sweets, plushies, and other items one would not reasonably buy.
I forgot to respond to this earlier but thanks Kierce

silvia de la cruz’s top tips for planning a family get-together
tip 1) offer your son to fly from La Guardia to CDMX together as a kindness even though you know he said he’d be going with his roommate and/or boss and/or its-complicated-ma-por-favor-solo-drop-it-okay? friend
tip 2) pretend to understand what the mini smirk he made after you said they’d “fly together” meant and don’t bring it up later to spare him the emotional face journey
tip 3) pretend to act pleasantly surprised when the other two góticos your son hangs out (or lives?) with are also there
tip 4) genuinely act surprised when the goth couple bring a baby with them.
tip 4.5) don’t ask why the baby looks so much like their missing roommate (nor why he’s missing in the first place; you wouldn’t put murder past either of them)
tip 5) borrow your sister’s baby stroller and try to find some time to buy the baby some clothes as you think that, while the victorian aesthetic looks nice, that baby carrier looks like it was actually made in the era and will most certainly not survive one more rock-ridden road
tip 6) when they actually arrive at abu tita’s house, let the party of old emos + your son set up camp in the small cellar - remember to ask el tío to help them move the huge wooden boxes they brought with them downstairs. don’t complain when they  ““party”” so hard they don’t come out of there until after the sun has gone down every. single. day of the trip
tip 7) while you get the dinner table ready with the finest silverware you can find, make sure to introduce the nice greek lady and her husband to the most annoying man you have ever met (El Jorge, menace to all in your corner of Valle) in hopes she can do something about it. What? They got rid of their other insufferable roommate, maybe they can work their magic here too
tip 8) let them drink the agua de jamaica your son brought out for his guests instead of serving them any of the homemade enchiladas and freshly spiced chapulines and don’t let anyone else at the table drink from it because he says the (thicker and blood red-er than usual) concoction is spiked with prescribed supplements and iron his buddies just have to take - can’t you see their pale skin? poor sick babies
tip 8.5) don’t put up much of a fight when the husband straight up snarls at your suggestion to go sunbathing in the field next morning - its not at you directly, you know they don’t even leave their own house much so its not so surprising
tip 9) throw a wet towel over your son’s boyfriend’s (”no es mi novio, ma!” yea, right) head when he starts smoking (literal smolder) in the middle of prayer during grace - that long hair of his must’ve gotten caught on the Jesus candle he’s been slowly trying to push off the table for the last 10 minutes
tip 10) pointedly ignore how the doll that looks just like her owner and is most definitely moving by itself knocks over the small wooden baby Jesus next to it on the shelf when its namesake starts hissing at the offending object (next to their wall of crucifixes, no less)
tip 11) get another wet towel for when she also inevitably catches on fire
tip 12) shut the door tight when, as you were bringing him his milk with cinnamon for the night, you see your son and his beau lowly murmuring to each other as one brushes the other’s hair. he can always have his milk in the morning.
tip 12.5) actually leave from the downstairs' cellar’s doorway when you hear the 3rd verse of the lullaby you taught your son begin to be more yawns than notes
and finally, tip 13) just buy whatever dumb lie about skin conditions, gastrointestinal sensitivities, and religious beliefs your darling son tries to tell you about his friends because if you’re one thing it isn’t stupid, and you can damn well spot a vampire when you see one; after all, you are a de la Cruz

the struggle bus
summary: spencer is the kindest human alive, which makes things tough for the reader :/ (spencer reid x fem!reader)
word count: 5.3k (a doozy kinda!)
warnings: i guess angst, but really just idiots in love (my fav trope). reader is kind of a hot mess. also, mention of overdose via multivitamin.
author’s note: hi, it’s been approx 4000 years since i last posted, but it’s just because i have no concept of ‘efficiency’ or ‘speed.’ but it’s okay. some of this is good, some of this is eh, make of that what you will. also, this is supposed to be #funny sometimes so uhhhh, keep that in mind. ALSO, the title is majorly stupid, but it was the title of the google doc, and i couldn’t think of anything else......anyways, love u!
For once, the bullpen was quiet.
Spencer was immersed in some case file, doing some work that you should have probably been doing as well, but it was approaching the late hours of the night, and you would barely be able to keep your eyes open if you came even close to trying to read or write. Your desks were situated against each other, so you shifted your gaze across the small divider to him. His sharp features were softened in the lamplight, a sight that tugged on your heartstrings, and you took a moment to just look at him. Most everyone else was gone or was too focused on getting their work done to pay attention to your reverie. Derek, if he were here, would dub you as ‘lovesick’ and shoot mischievous smirks and wiggling eyebrows in your direction, but luckily for you, he was not. Twisting carelessly in your chair with your feet propped on the desk, you chewed absentmindedly on a pen, lost deep in thought. “Hey, Spencer?”
“Yeah?” He continued scribbling on the file without so much as a glance towards you, but that was perfectly fine by you, more time for not-creepy staring.
“How many of my vitamins do you think I could eat before I died?”
At this, he furrowed his brow and neatly laid his pen down.
“That depends on what vitamin you’re taking. If you’re talking about iron supplements, the limit is somewhere around 20mg of elemental iron per kilogram of body weight. Any more than that will have incredibly unpleasant side effects like abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, and coma. However, if you’re talking about Vitamin C, it’s virtually impossible to overdose, but you might get a bad headache if you supersede 2000 mg.”
“Okay, what about my gummy vitamins?”
He narrowed his eyes at you. “While it still depends on what vitamins are included, eating a whole bottle of your typical multivitamin could easily result in death.”
You mulled this over. “So, I should definitely not go home and eat the rest of my gummy vitamins tonight?”
Spencer chuckled, “I’m not a medical doctor, but yes, I’d recommend that you don’t do that.”
Tossing your head back and letting out a small groan, you protested, “But Spencer, my gummy vitamins taste so good! And I have no food at home, so I guess I either die by overdose on gummy multivitamins or starvation.”
He couldn’t help but grin at your melodrama. It could be 12:06 in the morning, and you could still somehow make him laugh. He was starting to understand that he was in too deep, but he also had the startling realization that he didn’t mind drowning if it was in you.
“You’ve got quite the predicament on your hands there, (Y/N). Maybe you should go grocery shopping with me the next time I suggest it, so you don’t end up in this situation again.”
“Oh my god, dude!” you moaned. “I told you I was actually busy; I had to take Oscar to the vet for his vaccines! I try to be a good mother to my dog, and you know I’m not an anti-vaxxer. I’d never decline time with my favorite guy without a good reason.”
Spencer’s heart was doing somersaults at the thought of him being your favorite guy. He’d won plenty of awards and medals in his lifetime, but somehow, none of those measured up to the accomplishment of being your favorite. Pride and butterflies boiled in his stomach.
“Alright, fine, I’ll let it slide this time.”
You snorted, “I appreciate your unmatched benevolence, Dr. Reid.” Locking eyes with him, you tried to dampen the lava flow of heat in your chest that erupted when he looked at you with the softest expression you’d ever seen, but you failed miserably. You had to clear your throat and look away; it was becoming all too much. “Hey, I’m gonna run to the restroom. Don’t leave without me!”
As you dashed away, a thought crossed Spencer’s mind, and he stood up and set off down the opposite hallway.
You returned a few minutes later to an empty bullpen which made you frown, and your heart sank. You had thought he was going to wait, but guess not. Sighing, you tried to not let it sting too badly when you noticed a light on in JJ’s office. You knocked and pushed the already ajar door with a quick hello? before being met with an exhausted-looking JJ.
“Hey, (Y/N). I thought everyone had left by now.”
“Nope, not quite yet,” you replied, offering a weak smile. JJ noticed and wrote it off as fatigue. “You didn’t happen to see Spencer leave a couple minutes ago, did you?”
“Uh, no, I thought he’d gone too.”
“Hm, okay, thanks anyway!”
You prepared to leave, but she stopped you, cocking her head. “Why do you ask? Is he still here?”
Leaning your head against the doorframe, you sighed. “I’m not sure. He was here when I went to the bathroom, but he wasn’t at his desk when I came back. I’m a little disappointed. We always walk out together because we’re both afraid of the parking garage at night.”
A grin simmered on JJ’s face at that fact. “Well, I could walk you out if you’d like?”
“Nah, that’s okay; I don’t want to bother you.”
There was something behind JJ’s eyes you couldn’t identify as she replied, “Alright, then. Just let me know if you change your mind.” She definitely wasn’t thinking about how you didn’t want her intruding on a you-and-Spencer tradition. Not that she minded! She’d been rooting for you both since the minute you’d stepped into the BAU, and Spencer had looked like he was about ready to melt into the floor at the sight of such a pretty girl.
“Thanks, Jayje.”
Dragging your feet a little, you made your way back to your desk to gather your things, trying to fend off the disappointment. You had gotten your jacket on and were about to pick up your bag when you heard a (Y/N)! from down the hall. Well, that was certainly not JJ. Hesitantly, you called out, “Spencer?”
He finally emerged with his arms loaded with...something, you couldn’t discern what in the dim light. His face lit up like the Vegas strip when he saw you. “(Y/N)! I didn’t want you starving or eating all of your vitamins, so I went down to the vending machine and got you a couple snacks!” Arriving at his desk, he dropped the various bags and packets on his desk, and your eyes widened immensely.
“A couple? Dude, did you buy out the whole machine?”
Slightly breathless from his quick jog back, he waved a dismissive hand. “It was nothing. And hey, look!” He picked up a bag. “Fruit snacks! Just like your vitamins, but without the part where you get really sick.”
You were astonished, to say the least. And minorly speechless too, as evidenced by your mouth that was gaping like a fish. “Spencer...this is so nice. You really didn’t have to.”
“Don’t worry about it; I’m sure you would’ve done the same for me.”
At that, your face nearly split in two, and he mirrored your grin. You thought you might pass out at his kindness, and you knew you’d be thinking about this every day for the next two weeks at least. Your expression then turned mischievous, as you tried to tamp down all of the warmth bubbling in your stomach. “Do you want to help me try to fit all this in my bag?”
“I thought you’d never ask.”
———
Garcia had been practicing her ukulele peacefully when she got the call.  (Well, ‘peacefully’ might have been a stretch as she had threatened to smash the object on her coffee table when she simply could not get the finger picking pattern she’d practiced for what seemed like hours, but it was supposed to be a relaxing hobby, so yes, it was peaceful.) Huffing a sigh of relief when the caller ID said [(Y/N/N)!!] with the longest stream of heart emojis and not [hotch >:( ], she picked up with her usual air of cheer. “What can I do ya for, my loveliest, most bewitching—”
She was cut off abruptly by the sounds of your horrible, heart-wrenching sobs, and her brows furrowed in concern. “Oh no, my sweet! What’s wrong?” She had to wait a few moments for your tears to calm (somewhat) while you tried to wrangle in your breath, so you could form some sort of sentence.
“Penny!”—gasp—“Oh my God,”—hiccup—“it looks so bad!” With your last word, you tumbled into incoherent bawling once again.
“Dear, what looks so bad?” She held her phone between her ear and her shoulder as she began to gather up her things. Whatever was wrong, it was clear you needed some good, old-fashioned Garcia TLC, and she was ready to give it.
The sniffling subsided minorly, and you choked out, “Remember when we were talking the other day, and I mentioned that my hair had gotten a little too long for my liking?” Oh no, Garcia could see where this was going. “Well, I figured I’d spend our evening off getting my hair cut, and I went to that new hairdresser, and oh Penelope, it looks awful. I don’t think I can ever go out in public again.” With that, your tears resumed.
“Darling, you know I’ve been where you are, and I know it seems bad right now, but everything will be fine. Let me grab my scissors and I’ll be over faster than you can say, ‘Penny, I love you so much, you truly are my fairy godmother.’”
You paused before whispering into the phone, “Penelope, I do love you so much, and you are my fairy godmother. But please, hurry.”
And hurry, she did.
Garcia was knocking on your door a little over five minutes later, which was incredibly suspicious because she lived at least 10 minutes away on a good day, but in the state of your disarray, you were not inclined to care. She sat you down on the toilet in your bathroom, whipping out her hair care set (she had definitely spent a significant amount of time dabbling in cosmetology, and it was desperate times like this when it came in handy). Squeezing your eyes shut through most of it, she snipped here and there, trying to make the best of this...horribly atrocious cut (seriously, that hairdresser should be sued), and when she was finished, it was not as bad as when they started, but it still wasn’t great. The rest of the evening was spent watching cheesy rom-coms and baking in an attempt to get your mind off of your hair.
Everything was mostly fine until the next morning, when you realized you’d have to go into work like this, and as terrifying as that prospect was in a normal work environment, you also worked in a place with an abnormal amount of hot people. (And you happened to be developing feelings for one of those hot people, but your brain was insistent upon ignoring that for the time being.)
Already anticipating your worries, Penelope had sent a text without your knowledge to a BAU group chat that excluded you (she had one of these for every member, it just made surprise birthday party planning so much easier).
[penelope :)] please DO NOT MENTION (Y/N)’S HAIR!!!! she got a bad haircut and she feels really terrible about it and doesn’t want to think about it so do not talk about it!!!
[jennifer!] Oh, no! :( Lips are sealed!
[rossi ;)] rip.
Emerging from the elevator in the nicest work outfit you own (an attempt to distract from the monstrosity), you scurried to Garcia’s lair before anyone could see you. Once inside, you slammed the door shut, and leaning against it, you slid down and covered your face with the files in your hands. “Pennyyyyy,” you moaned. “I don’t think I can do this!”
She swiveled to face you with a look of empathy. “Sugar, I know you can. It—it doesn’t even look that bad!” But Garcia was a horrible liar, and if looks could kill, she would have been dead instantaneously.
Heaving yourself up off the floor, you came to sit in the seat next to her. “Can’t I just work in here today? And maybe for the rest of time?”
“You know I would love that, but those other lovely people on our team need you! Especially the young doctor, you know he’d be lonely without you.”
As if her mention had summoned him, Reid opened the door to their secret meeting, files in hand, and your eyes nearly jumped out of their sockets. Garcia stared at him very intensely, attempting to telepathically tell him to not mention the hair, and you looked like a deer in the headlights, trying to figure out a way to hide yourself from him and possibly the entire universe. And poor Reid shifted his gaze between the two of you, helplessly confused as to what he had walked into. “Am I interrupting something?”
“Uh, no!” Garcia said in the least convincing manner.
“Okay,” he responded, not convinced in the slightest. “I just came to give you some files from Hotch.” So, he handed Garcia the papers and then turned to leave when you caught his eye.
And because he was not the greatest with technology, Spencer had not checked his phone that morning…. Meaning he had not seen Garcia’s text. So he looked at you a moment and cocked his head. “Your hair looks really nice today, (Y/N). Did you get it cut?”
This time, it was Garcia’s turn to glare (because read your texts, dammit!), and you fumbled for a response. As you scanned his face, searching for a sign that he was lying, that he was just saying something to make you feel better, you came up empty. He was telling the truth. He genuinely thought your hair looked nice. “Um, uh—yeah. Yeah, I did. Thanks for noticing.”
“You’re welcome.” He offered you a smile, which you returned easily (a fact that surprised you). “See you.” Retreating from the office because the vibes in there were weird, he shut the door, finally leaving you and Garcia alone again.
You were reeling.
You thought about when you had gotten dressed that morning, and you had entertained each outfit with great scrutiny, trying to come up with something that might draw attention away from your hair. In that half hour you’d spent, you had realized that you didn’t really mind looking bad in front of Morgan or Emily or Hotch or really anyone on the team. Almost anyone. With an increasing amount of discomfort, you had realized you didn't want to look bad in front of Spencer. Of course, he’d never judge you, but you wanted to look good for him. For your best friend.
And he told you your hair looked nice.
You smiled to yourself.
Garcia turned to you with a look of shock on her face. Had that been anyone else, she was sure you would have curled up in a ball beneath her desk and would not have left until every single other person had left the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but you hadn’t, and she smirked.
Oh, she knew where this was going.
———
To put it lightly, it had not been the best of mornings.
It seemed that everything that could’ve gone wrong did, so you burst past the glass doors of the BAU six minutes late with a coffee-covered shirt, mud-stained pants, soggy shoes, and a most miserable attitude. Hotch, while a sympathetic man, was still your boss with rules to follow and when you stumbled into the bullpen, gave a pointed stare between you and the clock, and you nodded sullenly. You understood his silent admonition, but knowing that he was even slightly disappointed in you, made your knees want to buckle. Swallowing around the slug in your throat, you set your bag down beside your chair and noticed a foreign object sitting on your desk. Interest thoroughly piqued, you reached forward to find it was a book with a satin ribbon tied on it.
It truly was a beautiful book with a deep crimson hardcover and the kind of deckled edges that you loved. Running your fingers along the rough-hewn pages, you finally noted the title, and you gasped. Beloved by Toni Morrison. Your favorite. The cursive words curved in black on the cover to match the ribbon, and you carefully traced the curling letters, wondering where this gorgeous book could have come from.
In the desk across from yours, Spencer watched the scene in front of him with a grin. He couldn’t help but feel pleased at the look of awe on your face as you inspected the book with careful fingers and a gentle gaze, and his heart swelled more and more the longer he looked. “Did you know that Margaret Garner, the woman the character Sethe is based on, her trial was used as part of an effort to dismantle the Fugitive Slave Act?” Your eyes flickered up to meet his, and those stupid freaking butterflies erupted in the pit of your stomach as you realized who had gifted you the book. “The presiding judge didn’t accept her lawyer’s argument that the act violated the right to religious freedom, but it was still somewhat of a turning point in the movement to strike down the law.”
“I did not know that, but thank you. For the fact and the book.”
“You’re welcome.” He had to avert his eyes from your strong gaze because he thought he might melt otherwise.
“Please don’t misinterpret this as me being ungrateful because I’m so, so thankful, but why?”
He shrugged, “I was just in the book store, and it made me think of you.” No, he didn’t keep an eye out specifically for this book on his weekly trip to the bookstore by his apartment after you had briefly mentioned your love of Ms. Morrison’s metaphors. And he definitely didn’t ask the owner Alice if she would let him know if she ever got any new copies.
Frankly, you were at a loss for words. Combing back through your conversations with him, you tried to remember when you had talked about the book, but you couldn’t come up with anything other than a couple words tossed briefly here and there. Suppose it wasn’t really the fact that he had heard, but the fact that he had listened. He listened and remembered things about you, little things tucked in the back of his brain, and it was how he thought about you even when you weren’t around. So, you clutched the book to your chest tightly as if it could meld with your heart and let your thoughts rage with the implications for a minute before smothering your mushy grin and tucking the book into your bag.
(Later, you pulled it out on your ride home on the metro. Spencer had already gotten off at his stop a few minutes before, so you took this moment of solitude to revel in the glory of your new gift. Every time you smoothed a hand over the cover, your mind was overwhelmed with what-ifs. What if he felt the same? What if his stomach rumbled with the same butterflies when you looked at him? What if this means he likes you as more than…. And abruptly, you were doused in doubt once again, muzzling those dangerous, rearing hypotheticals. This was a path that would only lead to disappointment.
Those thoughts only got worse when you read his inscription, though:
Dear (Y/N/N),
I hope you find great joy in reacquainting yourself with the graces of Ms. Morrison’s elegant prose in this new copy. I was inspired by your praise and read this classic again, and I can say that I definitely understand your veneration of her story-telling. Hopefully, we can discuss it soon, so I can try to see all of the details that you so admire. You are always much better at appreciating the finer things in life.
She says that, “something that is loved is never lost.”
I hope you know that you will never be lost to me.
Sincerely,
Spencer
(P.S. I wrote this in pencil, so you can erase and have the clean copy you wanted.)
You would never erase it.)
———
“Hey, are you alright?”
You sat at your desk with your head in your hands. Your responding “no” came out muffled.
Spencer frowned and sat on the edge of your desk. “Is there anything I can help with?”
Running your hands over your face, you finally met his gaze. His eyes were soft as they searched your own, and the expression on his face was not of pity or frustration but empathy, and of course, he was just being his sweet self. Your eyes watered in response, and his heart clenched at the sight. You shifted your eyes somewhere else, anywhere else. “Uh, no.”
It was clearly a lie.
Furrowing his brows at your obfuscation, he scanned your face for any indication of what might be the problem. A small sigh. He came up with nothing. “Alright,” he conceded hesitantly. “May I ask what is wrong?”
“No.”
“Okay.”
You stared down at the files neatly ordered on your desk, trying to mentally shoo him away with the sheer force of your willpower alone. But Spencer Reid was a stubborn man, and you knew this, and you also knew he wasn’t leaving until he knew you were alright. So, you both sat in the silence of the bullpen that only accompanied the arrival of midnight. The glow of your lamp bathed the vicinity in a warm yellow, and the tick of the nearby clock rattled around your chest as you attempted fruitlessly to subdue your incessant thoughts. He was close enough that you could hear the soft susurration of his exhales as his eyes flitted about the room to give you some sort of breathing room, and you shut yours for a moment to appreciate this moment of peace before the inevitable catastrophe to follow.
“I’m—uh, not okay.”
Finally turning back to you with a mildly surprised expression (he didn’t expect you to say anything so soon. Or so bluntly.), he offered you one of his signature tight-lipped smiles as encouragement to continue.
“I’m kind of really struggling…” you trailed off, gaze empty, ensnared in your thoughts.
Ever the gentleman with persistence that could last a thousand years, he gently prompted, “With…?”
A strong gulp and eyes squeezed shut. “With you.”
Well, that was not the answer Spencer was expecting. He felt like he’d had the wind knocked out of him, and he was hollow and shaken and in pain. Gaping, he fumbled hopelessly for an answer, trying to find some reason you could be upset with him. He had always thought you two were the best of friends; he’d never doubted that before. How could he have missed this?
Swallowing hard against the lump in his throat, he strained to ask, “Uh—um, what—what did I do?”
Upon witnessing his struggle, you quickly amended your previous statement. “No, no, no, no, no! I’m not mad at you, well, I kind of am, but you don’t need to feel bad, it’s not your fault.”
“I’m not really sure what to make of that.”
You huffed a sigh and covered your face with your hands in a poor attempt to try to hide the blush rapidly coloring your cheeks. “I’m sorry, I just—you’re so nice!”
Now Spencer was really confused. “You’re mad at me...because you think I’m nice?”
“Yes, Spencer! You’re so nice, and it makes me incredibly frustrated. You see this?” You picked up a book from your desk and waved it frantically. A little intimidated by your crazed look, he nodded timidly. “Do you recognize this book?”
“It’s a special edition of Beloved by Toni Morrison.”
“It’s the special edition of my favorite book that you bought for me because you know how much I love this book.”
Spencer looked like a deer in the headlights. “You always said that your book at home was so messy with your annotations and that a fresh copy would have been nice.”
“You didn’t even buy it for my birthday or a special occasion! You just saw it in the store and said that you thought of me and had to buy it. That’s so unbelievably thoughtful! Not to mention the fact that I can barely look at fruit snacks now without tearing up. And—and the other day! When I got my haircut, I hated it, but I came in the next day, and you were the first person to tell me you liked it. You weren’t even lying to make me feel better; I’m a profiler, and I know that you were telling the truth. And it took no effort or thought because Spencer, you are the most kind-hearted and compassionate and generous person I’ve ever met. You are so—so genuinely good.
“No, you are the best. You are the best person I know,” you stated with finality, holding his stare with an unshakeable firmness. It was the first time you truly looked at him all night, and his heart felt like it was going to expand past his ribcage and burst open like a balloon. Your resolve melted though and your voice dropped to a near whisper. “And you’re not just nice. You’re nice to me. Which just makes it so hard.”
You deflated, withering into your seat.
“Makes what hard?”
“It makes it so much harder for me to not fall in love with you.”
Stunned silence.
Until it was shattered by a hiccup, and Spencer finally noticed the tears leaking from the corner of your eyes, and he tried, he tried so hard to puzzle through all of this new information and the fact that you just admitted you’re falling in love with him, and for some reason, you’re crying? He couldn’t even get his stupid genius brain to come with a single word before you started stumbling into an apology. “I know that’s not what you want to hear because we’re supposed to be friends, and I know that you’re just a good person, so you’re nice to everyone. Believe me, I know. And I’m sorry if I’ve made you uncomfortable, but I couldn’t keep holding on to this by myself, and I knew if anyone would let me down easy, it’d be you.” You chewed on your lip and avoided his stare at all costs. “So, I’m sorry.” You sniffled.
The quiet that followed weighed heavy on your chest, and you couldn’t seem to breathe. You had expected rejection; you hadn’t expected complete silence. And this was somehow so much more unbearable. In a voice so faint you weren’t even sure if he could hear, you begged, “Please say something.”
A beat.
“(Y/N), I love you.”
A whisper just barely verging on hopeful, “What?”
“(Y/N), I—I love you so much.” His heart felt like it was in his throat, and his voice broke slightly as he stood. “You’re the first person I think about when I get up in the morning, and you’re the last person before I fall asleep. I dread going home at the end of the day because you’re not there. When you’re not with me, even if you’re in the other room, it feels like I’ve forgotten something, and for the longest time, I couldn’t figure out what I was missing, but it was you. You consume my every thought, which is saying something because I think a lot. Actually, it’s kind of funny,” he chuckled somewhat morosely, “I truly cannot comprehend the fact that you don’t know how much I’ve liked you, how long I’ve loved you because it feels like it’s so obvious and so potent that it seeps out of me, whether I want it to or not.
“And I’m nice to you because no one else is more deserving of kindness. I’d be lucky if you let me be the one to remind you of that, everyday. Because you’re the best person I know.” You looked up at him with shining eyes and the meagerest beginnings of a smile, and he just beamed right back. With a creased brow, he ventured, “You’re my favorite person in the world, you know that, right?
Failing to suppress your growing grin, you nodded your head meekly. “Yeah, I know.”
“Good.”
Spencer felt pleased with himself until he remembered that he had forgotten the most important part. “Would you like to get dinner with me sometime? Like a date?”
Standing from your seat, you wrapped your arms around his neck and burrowed your face into his chest, and he immediately reciprocated, clutching you as close as he could. “I would love that.” It came out muffled, but he understood well enough as he pressed his face into your neck. And you stood like that for a few moments, just existing together, and for the first time in a long time, nothing hurt. There was no worry of unrequited yearning or pain of terrible pining; there were just two people who finally knew peace. Knew that the person they loved most in the world loved them back. Neither ever wanted to leave.
However, sometimes necessary duties like breathing take precedence, so you pulled back from him enough to finally claim some air. Your hands slid down his front, resting on his chest, his on your waist, and you just stared at him. The most beautiful face you’d ever seen looking right back at you with the same expression of awe that made you realize just how lucky you were. And slowly, hesitantly, you both leaned in ever so slightly with heads wavering and tension buzzing. Gingerly and sweetly. Neither could commit, but no one could pull away from fast-approaching revelation.
Finally, a breath away.
“Can I kiss you?”
You nodded.
When your lips met, your chest heaved with your eager, romantic hopes and dreams bubbling up near your lungs, finally coming to fruition. His hands came up to caress your jaw, and you leaned into him. His touch was so gentle, but he also touched you with intention. For once in his life, Spencer Reid felt no hesitation, kissing the girl of his dreams. And you felt held by him. You were bursting at the seams of your existence, swollen with infatuation and tenderness, yet totally and completely encompassed by him. You could shatter into a million tiny, little pieces, and he would be there to collect every shard. How cheesy.
Both of you grinned into the kiss; the sickly sweet itch in your heart was contagious. You finally released him, and wanting to savor the moment, you tucked yourself into the crook of his neck, so his chin could rest on the crown of your head. “I love you a lot, Dr. Reid.”
He hummed in agreement.
It didn’t need saying.

BUCCI GANG SKINCARE/BEAUTY ROUTINE (because this is what i care about)
BRUNO:
Probably has naturally perfect skin, because he’s beautiful and perfect
I love tan Buno, even if the anime and PPP make him super pale.  I translate this to the personal headcanon that he does have a natural tan, but he does use sunscreen everyday
He picked it up from being the son of a sailor, and one too many bad sunburns
Probably also loves using products with aloe in them, he knows he can trust them
Probably washes his face at night, but showers in the morning (because Abbacchio showers at night) so he thinks he doesn’t need to wash his face
Probably shaves often enough, but doesn’t cut his skin anymore when he does it because he is GROWN
Doesn’t use moisturizer because his skin is naturally on the more oily side, and thinks he doesn’t need it
He probably ends up getting wrinkles and aging MUCH faster because of this
  ABBACCHIO:
He has “A Routine” for his skincare, but he focuses more on his makeup and hair
If he’s just gonna cover it up with makeup anyways, who cares what his skin looks like
Because of that, his skin is on the sensitive side, i.e. he gets sunburn easily and has a bunch of allergies to chemicals and specific ingredients
Miraculously doesn’t get much acne anymore, just some blackheads on his nose
So yeah he puts a lot more effort into his makeup as a result
Very good at contour and cut creases-dramatic and gothic looks with dark/neutral pallets
Probably loves Kat Von D because of vibes, but also has an impressive collection of more indie brand’s liquid lipsticks and eyeliners
Actually does care a lot about his hair now that it's long
He originally let it grow out due to apathy, but Bruno complimented his hair so he keeps it long now and maintains it regularly
He washes his hair every other day give or take, then blow dries and irons it. It takes about 2 hours
He also regularly uses a hair mask, and protective sprays and oils
Also probably only uses brands recommended by hair stylists like redken and paul mitchell or the italian equivalent
He waxes all his body hair off.  All Of It.
As previously mentioned, he tends to take night showers because lets him take his time
Plus he's obv not a morning person.  He needs like an hour to do his makeup before he’s ready to go out in the morning
Probs wears the most makeup out of the gang
GIORNO:
Giorno is a person who’s carefully created a mask to achieve his dreams, and i believe this absolutely carries over into his appearance
Not to mention with issues of bullying and abuse in his past, he uses his beauty routine almost like a knight uses armor
Needless to say, he’s got the most intense skincare routine
Without fail, will wash his face and do a skincare regime twice a day
Im talking double cleansing, toner, spot correction, serum, essence, eye cream, moisturizer, etc
Spf in the highest protection available and regularly wears face masks at night
Will NOT go to bed without taking care of his skin
He definitely doesn’t seem like it, but might be the most obsessed with beauty and personal appearance out of anyone in the gang.
BUT it's the natural, effortless type of beauty.  The #wokeuplike this type
Wears some makeup, but its minimal, especially compared to Abbacchio
Some bb cream with spf and primer, lip gloss/tint, and eyebrow/lash tint.  Prefers brown mascara as opposed to black, and prefers long lashes as opposed to thick
He washes his hair with all natural products, and lets it air dry except for his donut holes in the front.  He pincurls them and uses as little hairspray as possible.
occasionally uses a straightening iron to add some curls, otherwise he thankfully has nice hair
Doesn’t really grow any facial hair.  Except for some leg/armpit hair, which is super soft and light.
Also uses hair masks and supplements for his hair, and again prefers organic/natural ingredients
I Want What He Has
MISTA:
Oh dear god
Probably one of the worst routines
Naturally has oily skin and hair, which is great for preventing aging, but bad for everything else
He does not know how to take care of himself, and unless it's brought to his attention, or he’s trying to impress/seduce someone, he doesn’t particularly care
That’s not to say that he’s a lost cause, he could probably be a model if he knew what he was doing.
Because he has oily skin, he got a lot of acne as a teen.  It’s getting better the older he gets, but he still gets plenty of white heads and acne.
Mainly on his forehead because of his beanie.
Will pop them every morning, and sometimes show it to Narancia (to his amusement) and Fugo (to his dismay)
After he pops his zits, he will use those alcohol pads
He thinks unless the skincare is actively burning his skin, it isn’t working
He’s recently started using witch hazel after a recommendation from Giorno, and it’s actually helping him a lot.  He’s not a huge fan of the smell, but it’s a start.
This man needs to take at LEAST one shower a day, sometimes two.  Not just because of his oily hair, but because of his daily activities with passione, he sweats a lot which doesn’t help with his skin or hair
He uses Head and Shoulders , which is a crying shame.
I headcanon that his hair is naturally very dark, thick and wavy/curly, a bit coarse.
9/10 his hair ends up sweat plastered to his skull by the end of the day after being under his hat
VERY HAIRY.  If he misses even a day of shaving, will grow stubble.  Body hair dark and curly
Also prolly has backne
FUGO:
Two words: Dry Skin
Which is nice because he doesn’t get a lot of acne, except for blackheads on his nose.
His skin is sensitive in other ways though
For one, it shows his blush easily, which can be embarrassing
Also dark bags under his eyes, although that’s mostly because of his irregular sleep schedules
Uses lotion on his hands a lot, because otherwise they can get very dry and cracked.
his lips are almost always cracked and chapped too, sometimes to the point of bleeding
He washes his face and hair daily, but doesn’t use moisturizer because he doesn't know that much about skincare.
He has learned about sheetmasks from Giorno, though, and likes them
He doesn’t do it often though, because Mista and Narancia make fun of him
Uses whatever shampoo or conditioner Bruno buys him, or whatever’s cheapest at the grocery store.  He does like to use mousse to slick his hair back and style it though
He can technically grow a beard and grows facial hair at a regular pace, but it’s so light and patchy that it doesn’t look that good, so he shaves regularly
NARANCIA:
Poor baby gets the painful kind of acne.
His skin is heavily affected by his hormones and diet
Maybe that’s why he prefers fruits and veggies to meats?  All the sugar and greasy food doesn’t do his skin any favors at all
Unconsciously picks at his acne, and doesn’t realize until he sees blood on his fingers that he knows isn’t from “work”
Could probably benefit from getting medication from a dermatologist, but he doesn’t know the first  thing about it, and is too embarrassed to ask Bruno for help
His hair is Dandruff prone, probably because he washes it every day.
Doesn’t use any special products or anything, but his hair is SO SOFT
It does get tangled up easily, unfortunately, and he has a cowlick on the back of his head that won’t. stay. Down.
Doesn’t really grow any facial hair yet, but his body hair is dark and thick, but very soft at the same time
Poor bby needs help with his routine
Got to Giorno, not Mista

Thundershield Concept
Supernatural AU where pre-serum Steve’s out on a Saturday night, just having a good time with his friends and not really looking for anything to happen. That is, until he catches the attention of a gorgeous blond giant, who introduces himself as Thor and offers to buy him a drink. Tall with muscles on his muscles, chiselled features, and blue eyes that are almost hypnotic to look into - even if it seems too good to be true, Steve’s all too happy to accept.
They spend the next hour or two drinking and dancing together, Steve’s heart pounding as they get closer and closer. He’s used to not being first choice when it comes to dating, and now here’s this Adonis smiling at him and listening to him talk so attentively, like there’s nobody else he’d rather be with. Watching him with hungry eyes and pulling him close, hands stroking further and further up under his shirt as they dance and grind against each other. The attention’s just as heady as the alcohol, and Steve’s not ashamed to admit he goes a little weak-kneed in Thor’s arms when Thor practically purrs in his ear that maybe they should find somewhere private.
Moments later, they’re stumbling out into the alley behind the club, still wrapped around each other as Thor presses Steve right up against the brick wall. Not exactly Steve’s usual style, but he’s ready to try anything with this guy, his heart rate thrumming when he feels hands working at his belt buckle. For a moment, there’s a sharp pricking at his neck, followed by an odd pulling or sucking sensation that leaves him more light-headed than ever as his pleasure spirals. Then it’s over as suddenly as it started when Thor pulls away and starts spluttering, his mouth bloodstained as it twists in distaste.
“Gods... are you fucking anaemic or something?” he grimaces, even as Steve gapes at him in disbelief.
“Are you a fucking vampire or something??” Steve finally manages to snap out in response, his hand flying up to his neck to staunch the flow of blood.
Only it turns out Thor is a vampire. Fangs and all, gleaming red in the dark. He was out looking for someone to take a sip from on top of a hook-up, but apparently Steve’s anaemia leaves his blood tasting sour and kind of weak. Go figure.
Even as he reels at the fact that vampires (and other supernatural creatures) are real, Steve’s surprised to find he’s mostly just disappointed and hurt that Thor seemingly only saw him as a quick source of blood. Thor’s a little awkward and quiet as he apologises, giving him time to work through his shock before offering to get him back to his friends. His hand lingers on Steve’s shoulder as they thread their way back through the crowd, and Steve can’t help but miss the weight and warmth when it vanishes as his friends catch sight of him again.
The next morning, Steve wakes up nursing a hangover and pondering over last night. It would be easy to dismiss it all as a dream. But the twin pinprick marks over his pulse point seem pretty real when he looks in the mirror. As does the note he finds in his jacket pocket as he dresses. It’s short - just a number to call, and a request if they can start over and talk over coffee sometime. Some might call him crazy, but Steve just smiles to himself as he finishes dressing and keeps the number safe for later, making a mental note to stock up on more of his iron supplements.

pin prick and needle sticks.
roman godfrey x reader
summary: your solution for roman’s feeding problem is met with some resistance.
word count: 3.9k
a/n: ya im having so much fun writing again so hopefully there will be more! i hope you enjoy and if you do, pls give me some feedback (-:
also this is a repost bc this wasn’t showing up in tags
Tumblr media
When you strode into Dr. Pryce’s office, he didn’t try to hide his surprise at your uncharacteristic appearance.
“Ms. (Y/L/N)! This is surely an unexpected visit.” Pryce pushed out of his desk chair to meet you in the middle of the large glass room.
“I hope I’m not interrupting anything.” You say politely as Johann takes the coat that’s folded over your arm.
“No, not presently. I was just about to wrap up some paperwork and go to lunch.”
“Well, I won’t keep you long. I am hoping my question has a simple enough answer.” You say as you take a seat in one of the visitors chairs across from his desk.
“So, you are looking for my expertise on a matter?” Pryce asks, taking his own seat now.
“Yes, and maybe a small favor depending on your answer.” You smile, trying to seem as sweet as possible.
You knew Johann was asked for wild favors and cover ups where the Godfrey family was concerned constantly, almost on the daily. You wanted him to be receptive to your idea and not shoot you down before he heard your pitch.
Pryce was tolerant of your presence and occasionally even fond of your acquaintance when Roman needed him for something or another. You were very bright and amiable company.
He sighs deeply, already seeming resistant, “Is this a Roman related favor?”
“Yes, but not in the way you think. It’s more like a gift I need your help in giving.”
Johann looked extremely perplexed as he placed his laced fingers on his desktop, “Now I am very intrigued. Please, proceed,”
“You are aware that Roman has been having some trouble sourcing food. Right?” You try to say everything as delicately as possible, even though you knew Pryce knew about Roman’s situation in full. Probably even more than you knew.
“Yes, I am. Unfortunately Olivia forbids me to speak with him on the matter before she does, and she refuses to do so until Roman goes to her for help.”
“Withholding access to food, sounds like an award winning mother if you ask me.”
Johann chuckles, “Yes, Olivia is nothing but selfless.”
“Selfless and maternal.”
Pryce laughs again before he asks you what is the nature of your visit in relation to Roman and his upirism.
“Like all things in Roman’s life that are broken, I have found the solution to fix them. In this case, I have decided that I will take my blood and give it to him. As much as I can give, so he will never have to worry about where to feed again.” You said this with a self assured expression, elated that you had come up with a way to help your love.
The true extent of Roman’s feeding problem had become apparent one night while you were making love.
Roman sat on his knees, your legs around his waist while he pressed his hips deliciously into yours. He had set a gentle rhythm of thrusts, ones that were illicting your mewls and calls of his name from your lips. While you were reveling in your pleasure, Roman was trembling. Desire filming his eyes as they transfixed on your jugular. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the faint thrum in your neck, your voice becoming hazy and distant as his mouth watered at the sight of your craned neck below him. It wasn’t until you grabbed his cheeks that he snapped from his thirsty stupor.
Roman tumbled off your naked form to the floor of the bedroom unceremoniously, skirting away from you until his back reached the wall, the farthest wall from the bed. You had sat up, not bothering to cover yourself as you stared at your crumpled boyfriend, who shook and stammered under his breath.
“I can’t, OK? We can’t! Not until I feed again. I don’t think I can control it- I can’t control myself.”
“Baby, it’s going to be fine. I know you would never hurt me,” You push away the remains of crumpled sheets and begin toward him, but Roman flinches aggressively.
“I can’t help it, no matter how much I don’t want too, I will. I would kill you just for a taste and I would hate myself forever.”
You wanted to offer yourself up on a silver platter then and there. Ask him to drink from you because even if he doubted his control, you knew he would stop feeding before you were in any semblance of danger. You just wanted to make him feel better, in any way you could. But, as Roman wove his hands into his hair and tugged ruthlessly at the roots, it was clear that this wasn’t going to become an argument, or even a conversation. Roman left the bedroom soon after, muttering something about the refrigerator and leeches, while you watched him leave with an ache in your chest.
You had been trying to figure out the best possible solution to Roman’s problem since. After contemplating many different avenues, you concluded that you weren’t a bank robber (even if it was just a blood bank) and hiring someone from Craigslist seemed too risky (and too weird). So, you had fallen back on your original idea from that night: Roman would drink from you.
“To be clear, you want to extract your own blood and stockpile it for Roman?”
“Exactly. I just need to know how to do it and how much I can give per week without dying of iron deficiency or something.” You nonchalantly reply.
“This is very noble of you to do, (Y/N).”
You wave a dismissive hand at his compliment, “I just want to help him in the best way I can. It’s what you do for the people you love.”
Pryce stares at you for a moment, and begins to wonder how Roman attracted you in the first place? He was sure it was the young man’s killer good looks and the charm he held with the opposite sex that first caught your attention, but you were a smart girl. You wouldn’t fall for him simply because he was a blueprint for a Greek statue or threw a few saccharine words your way. He wondered if Roman was warm and adoring? Sweet and loving and soft when he was only in your company? From what Pryce had seen first hand, Roman was kind and gentle when you were around, but only ever to you. The second Roman laid his eyes back on Pryce or anyone else for that matter, he was back to an angry frothing terror to anyone in his path.
“When giving blood for say, The Red Cross, they take about a liter of your blood which is around 15 fluid ounce. You shouldn’t give more than that a mouth, but I could give you a few supplements that could help replenish your red blood cells at a slightly quicker rate so you would be able to give blood once a week.
“You would likely need to take breaks, possibly a month on and a month off? To make sure that giving blood this frequently wouldn’t take any serious toll, or have any significant side effects on the body.” Pryce explains.
“And these supplements won’t do anything weird to me if I take them?” You trusted Pryce, but only minutely. While you felt cordial with him, you still knew to be weary of his experiments.
“No, of course not. They are all over the counter supplements and vitamins that you can buy on your own accord. I would just tell you how, when and the quantity to take.”
You sighed at his answer and laughed lightly, “So it’s all good? We could do it?”
“I don’t see why not. I could send a tech to your home to administer the IV, and possibly if this method of feeding works out for Roman long term, you could learn to insert it yourself.”
“Am I going to have like, crazy puncture marks? Am I gonna look like a junkie?” You asked, the vanity of this whole thing only now coming to your mind.
“Unfortunately, there will be noticeable marks and possible bruises from repeated insertions. I could work on something to heal your puncture marks, as I said, if this becomes a main source of Roman’s feeding.”
You nod, mulling over the information for a moment.
“When could we start?”
Tumblr media
Telling Roman about the whole thing never even crossed your mind. To you, this was a gift that you were going to give to him, and you loved the element of surprise. It was strange, sure, but to you, this idea of yours felt totally romantic. Some women gave their boyfriends watches, or flat screen TV’s, or let them put in their ass on their birthdays; but for your boyfriend? The man who had every material object he desired and every sexual need quenched? Your blood was a perfect way to show him you cared.
You didn’t want Roman to get just one bag for the first time you presented him with the blood, so you waited four long weeks to create your mini arsenal for him. You just took to wearing long sleeves around the house and silk robes right before bed to hide the little marks on your arms. Roman, still not at his most observant from his lack of feedings, didn’t even bat an eye at your clothing choices.
After your final session with one of Pryce’s tech’s in your home, you felt giddy. You had been keeping the blood in the outside fridge until you had the stockpile you desired, knowing Roman never checked it’s contents. Tonight was the night you were finally going to give them to him.
After Pryce’s man left, you placed your newest bag in the refrigerator and went back inside to change into something far more alluring than the sweatpants you adorned currently. This was going to be a special night for your man and you wanted to pull out all the stops. You had already directed Conway and Anna to make a four course feast for the two of you before you would bring out Roman’s surprise.
After changing into the tightly fitted black dress you had picked out a few weeks ago, along with Roman’s favorite silk lingerie set, you went back downstairs to continue to set the scene for Roman when he returned from work. You scattered candles around the room and played an old jazz record to soothe any worry or anxiety from your boyfriend once he entered your shared home. You wanted everything to be perfect, he deserved it.
As you finished and Anna and Conway were wrapping up the meal, you heard someone placing a key in the front door. You turned to see Roman’s tall silhouette through the frosted glass and you couldn’t keep the smile off your lips.
When he walked through the door, he looked exhausted. His eyes were haloed in shadows and he was gaunt, his pale skin pasty and dull. He looked about ready to collapse.
Until he saw you.
“Welcome home.” You said, a wide grin on your features.
“What’s all this?” Roman asked as you met him by the door.
“I know how stressed you’ve been and I wanted to set up a nice evening for the two of us.” You replied as you pushed his coat off his shoulders and held out for Conway to take.
Roman glanced over your shoulder to see the extent of the fuss you had made for him and his shoulders visibly relaxed, “You’re amazing.”
You took both his hands and started to walk back toward the table, “That I am, and I have a little surprise for you after dinner.”
Roman tugs you to him suddenly, causing you to stumble a bit in your heels, but that only accomplished to bring you flush to him.
“Is my surprise under this sexy little get up of yours?” Roman’s eyes twinkle with lust as he moves his hands down to grip your ass.
You hum with delight, “I guess you have two surprises coming, then.”
You lean up to place a lingering kiss to his lips and Roman groans a curse as you step away from his hold.
“But for now, let’s eat and unwind. How was your day?” You ask, pulling out Roman’s chair for him.
“Better now.” He grinned, one that was without smare or ulterior motive. Just a pure smile radiating happiness.
After you chatted about your days and Roman having bitched about work to his heart’s content, you both finished the delicious dinner that was prepared for you. You had moved across the table to sit on his lap while you both shared a chocolate mousse, the gentle ping of the silver spoon against the serving glass lulling you both into calm relaxation and sloth as you ate the rich dessert.
Roman’s temple was pressed against your exposed cleavage, practically purring with the bliss he felt.
“Thank you for tonight, baby. I needed it.” He sighed, turning his head just enough to let you kiss his lips.
“Of course, my love.” You responded, stroking your hand through his hair, “I’d pluck the stars from the sky if it’d make you happy.”
“Hey,” Roman smiles, poking your side, “That’s my line.”
You giggle as Roman prodes you, “Well, while I’m taking your lines, let me take another. I got you something and I need to go and get it.”
“You know I don’t need anything.” Roman says, squeezing you once more before you got off his lap.
“This present is something you need, trust me.” You say over your shoulder as you exit the kitchen and enter the garage to get the gift box you had prepared.
Was this all very dramatic? Yes. Over the top? Of course.
But you loved pampering Roman, so you threw all cares to the wind.
As you entered the kitchen with the rectangular black gift box held together with a silk ribbon, Roman looked at you confused.
“Jeez, what is that? Is my mother’s head in there?” He asked as he watched you place the box on the dining table.
“I wish.” You chuckled, dusting your hands off on your dress as you looked into Roman’s puzzled expression, “Open it.”
Unable to even guess what could be in the box, Roman stood up and walked toward you and where it lay.
“It’s not gonna be anything that’s gonna pop out at me, right?”
“Oh my God, stop being such a bitch and open it already!” You laugh, nudging him with your shoulder as you quaked with excitement.
Roman finally pulled on the black ribbon and slowly untied it, causing the sides of the box to fall apart and reveal it’s contents.
“Surprise!” You said, jumping slightly in place, barely able to keep your excitement to yourself as Roman took in the gift.
He just looked at the blood blankly, all placed in a row before him. His mouth hung open, but he said nothing.
“How did you get this?”
“Well, that’s the extra special part. It’s mine,” You gestured to the blood, “It’s all from me.”
Roman looked up at you, and the appreciation you’d thought you’d see written all over his face wasn’t there. Instead his face was red with anger.
“How could you do this? How could you be so reckless!” Roman raged.
Your heart sank with embarrassment and grief.
“I thought you’d like it.”
“Like it? Baby, why would I like you taking your blood to give to me? Do you know how dangerous this is? Do you!” You cowered under his voice, lip quivering.
“I thought you would be happy, I thought I was helping. Now you don’t have to worry about feeding or hurting anyone. I can just give blood every now and then and give it to you.” You responded, trying desperately to mend the evening.
“How did you even do this? How did you figure this out?” Roman picked up one of the bags and furiously tossed it back down.
You furrowed your brows and took a step toward your boyfriend, “OK, so don’t get mad- well, don’t get more mad I guess… but I asked Pryce-”
“You asked Pryce?” Roman shrieked, his eyes bulging from his head.
“Yes! But it wasn’t his idea, it was mine. The whole thing was my idea and all he did was help me and make sure I was safe.” You said quickly as Roman paced the length of the table in front of you.
“I’m going to kill him. I’m going to kill that stupid little prick and rip his cock off and shove it down his throat!” Roman bellowed.
“Ro, it’s not his fault,”
“It is! He let you do this! Indulged you! He fucking put a needle in your arm and touched you!” It was then that Roman finally zeroed in on the small circular band aid on the inner crook of your elbow and his face passed its red hue into bright crimson.
“Pryce never touched me! He had a lab tech help me.”
“Then I’m killing the tech, then Pryce, then everyone in that fucking nut house of a lab who knew this was happening and didn’t tell me!”
“Stop!” You shouted over Roman’s angry rant, “Enough! This wasn’t anyone’s fault but my own, apparently. I fucked up, I can see that now. But I honestly and truly thought you would love this. That you could be satiated from my blood and never worry about where the next source would come from. But hey? Guess I was wrong.”
Tears threatened to spill from your eyes as you turned on your heel to leave.
“(Y/N),” Roman called after you but you stuck up your hand to silence him.
“No, I just want to go to sleep. I’ll see you in bed.” And you walked up the stairs to leave your boyfriend stewing in his own ire.
Tumblr media
Stripped from your dress and lingerie, you lay under the thick covers of the bed and mindlessly watch some old re-run of a sitcom. It had been well over an hour since you had left Roman in the kitchen and each second he stayed away was another second of heartbreak and humiliation. You still weren’t sure why Roman had blown up the way he did… sure it was risky, but nothing that you couldn’t handle. You were a grown fucking woman who knew her own limits. You had picked up the supplements Pryce had prescribed you and you had been feeling perfectly fine. If you ever started to feel any effects, you knew you would head straight to Pryce or your primary doctor.
As another commercial break washed over the screen, Roman opened the door to the bedroom and peeked his head inside.
“You OK?”
“No.”
Roman sighed as he came fully into the room and shut the door behind himself, leaning against it.
“Listen, I’m sorry about the scene down there…”
“I’m sorry, too. I should have asked you first if you would have been OK with me doing this for you.” You slumped your shoulder into the mattress.
Roman just watched you.
“I just… Roman, I really thought you would like it! I thought you might even be grateful. I really meant what I said downstairs, I would give you a star if that would make you happy, I really would. And I thought helping solve your feeding problem would make you happy, and it didn’t, so I’m sorry.”
Still Roman stayed silent, just studying you, wrapped in a coil of thick blankets. He soon walked toward the bed and sat on the corner, his back facing you. He hunched over and placed his head in his hands, gently shook it side to side.
“I was never really even that mad at you, baby. Just at Pryce, I guess. And scared…”
“Scared about what?”
“Seriously? You’re going to ask that?” Roman glowered.
You kicked your foot out to the edge he was sitting on to jostle him, “Don’t be an asshole.”
He grumbled something under his breath that you sure was unkind before he continued.
“I was obviously fucking scared because this could go wrong, alright? You could get sick or stop clotting or something! I don’t know. I don’t have to be rational when it comes to your safety and health.”
You rolled your eyes at that comment, “I thought I was being rational coming up with this idea, Roman. In my head, this would solve everything. No more leeches or starving or worrying that you’ll kill someone when it gets too much!”
Roman looked back at you, his eyes intense as your cheeks heated with your outburst.
“I just-! Fuck,” He turned back around, bouncing his knee, “I don’t want you to do this for me and something bad happening. That’s it, that’s all.”
You frown and whisper his name, just loud enough for him to hear.
“And because you went to Pryce and not me… and that no one at my own fucking company told me about this. Fucking traitors.”
You shuffled your way out from the blankets and crawled your way toward Roman, placing a gentle hand to his shoulder to gage his reaction before you moved to hug him.
“I’m not going to get hurt, I promise. Pryce told me where to buy some vitamins to keep me healthy and they have been working. I won’t continue if I start to feel sick. And if by some chance I do, you will be the first person I tell.”
Roman says nothing at first, but you knew he heard you. You placed a few simple kisses to his shoulder and wound your arms tighter around his waist, snuggling to him.
“I want to know the second you start to feel anything less than fantastic, OK? If you feel faint or nauseous or even if you have a fucking headache, alright? I’m not fucking around here.” He replied firmly.
A smile spread across your face and you pressed it to his skin, “Of course, baby. No more secrets ever again.”
“Yeah, yeah…” Roman trailed off with a sigh, but leaning into your touch.
“You know,” You started, moving around his neck to see his face, “I thought the idea of you drinking my blood was very romantic. Maybe even erotic.”
Roman moved to give you a quizzical look and you only grinned wider.
“Something about giving myself to you fully, running through your veins, letting you have all of me, you don’t think that’s romantic?”
Roman’s lips began to pull into his signature smirk, “I think I was little more taken by your erotic comment.”
You giggled and playfully bit his shoulder, “I don’t know, I think about watching you drink it… about you covered in it and knowing it’s from me,”
Roman was quick to grab you and manhandle you around him and into his lap.
“Yeah?” He asked, smirk persistent as his hands explored your body.
“Yeah… knowing you drink my blood, my cum, that you’re the only one who knows my taste… it got me all hot, baby.”
Roman groaned deep in his chest as he dug his fingers into your hips, twitching his hips up against you and making your eyes flutter.
“My baby, my girl,” He hummed, leaning forward to ghost his lips over your own, “You drive me absolutely wild.”
“All better now?”
Roman just chuckles, grinding you down onto him.
“And you’ll drink the blood?”
“Yeah, fine,” And he finally kisses you.
You knew that he was playing it off now like it was nothing, but the honesty you had shown him, and the utter devotion you had just pledged, meant something to him. It meant everything to him.

Title: A Free Spot
Summary:
"While she was still a commander in the midst of a war, she had to shut out all raw emotion while she watched Levi take down titan after titan, as the airship took her further away from where she had wanted to be. She did too good of a job turning off her emotions then and her last memory of Levi had become a free spot in her mind.”
Slight AU! Levi sacrifices himself in Chapter 132 instead of Hange and Hange deals with the consequences years later.
Written for @levihanweek  Angstober 2020. Prompt: Free Spot
Link to cross-postings: AO3
Notes:
A part of me felt like Levi should have gone instead of Hange. That is, if one of them had to go. I'd still rather they both lived and got their happily ever after
I’m in the middle of writing for the greetings and farewell prompt but it's really just not looking to good rn so I'd rather not share it for now. Hopefully, I manage to get the motivation to finish it up. I’m probably gonna write some fluff and domestic Levihan after this. These prompts are just too heavy haha.
Either way, I had so much fun writing for angstober. I hope you enjoy and do tell me what you think!
You know Levi, it feels like my time has come. I want to act as cool as possible so let me go out like this...
It had been two years since the rumbling had stopped for good. Eren was dead. The Eldians and Marleyans had established a peace treaty and the survey corps was declared redundant, replaced with a special defense squad.
Mikasa and Armin willingly took over what was left of building the defense-oriented military. Having seen enough violence and loss to last a lifetime, one soldier slowly and quietly stepped down.
That one soldier helped build what became the new city of Paradis, but still felt the burden of responsibility. Disappearing from society and retiring to some farmland on the outskirts of central Paradis felt wrong although tempting.
That soldier had seen things first hand that most people would never experience, so it was easy to take on a job as a teacher. This was especially since most Eldians did not want a repeat of the last war and who better to teach the future generation than one who had experienced it at the front ranks.
The subjects taught were easy to pick up.
Math. Science. Languages. History.
Most kids would end up mastering the basics anyway and that was more than enough for most jobs. What most people from both sides had failed to master though, was how to empathize and how to critically think. They failed to learn how to talk things through or how to question orders.
How to talk things through. How to question orders.
That was what motivated the soldier-turned-teacher, to supplement lessons with anecdotes from the Survey Corps days. It was like living in one's dreams again. The anecdotes before and after lessons kept the students entertained and it also kept the memory of one important person alive.
Three months into the lesson, one of the students had turned out to be more invested than the others and had raised her hand in the middle of one of their story times.
"Did you marry Levi?"
Maybe the former commander did get carried away.
"The soldier I mean. The one in your stories,"  the young girl clarified.
“Lena, you shouldn’t have asked that,” another student muttered.
Lena jumped up and bowed her head in embarrassment. "I'm sorry… You always got so excited when you talked about him that I thought…"
Hange only realized then that for a second she had not moved from her spot. She put a hand to her face to see that it was wet. She hastily looked back at the blackboard and wiped her face with the collar of her sweater.
"What would make you think we married?" She managed to ask as she looked back at the young student. Most of the kids in the room were roughly twelve to thirteen years old. At that point, she was still figuring out what could be mentioned and what couldn't to a bunch of preteens.
Lena blushed. "My big sister talked about her boyfriend like that and now they're married."
"Well that story could wait another time. It looks like classes are done for the day." The teacher quickly gathered up her learning materials into one messy pile on the table, thanking whatever god existed for the timing of that question at least.
Some students protested but the teacher did not budge. The latter looked back again at the blackboard as she listened to the students pack up their things and file out of the classrooms.
As soon as the last student left, Hange quickly closed the door behind her, slid on the floor and buried her face on her hands.
Why are you crying? It's been fucking years.
She slammed the floor with her fists, letting the pain that shook through her wrists, act as punishment for that random bout of emotion.
How many stories has she told them?
They had started off as stories detailing the lives of the survey corps members who had given their lives to fight a war fueled by the hate of two nations. Somehow, the stories had shifted to her own relationships. She had talked about Moblit and Erwin, the values they had upheld for the greater good of humanity.
How had she described him for the students to think they married?
Before she knew it, she had started to talk about the strongest soldier with ironically, the most unwavering regard for human life. The one soldier who was probably capable of taking down fifty soldiers without so much as a scratch was the same soldier who would ask her privately after meetings, if she could think of a better plan which would cost less lives than the one they had thought up just a while ago. He was a soldier who would always voted on alternatives that could preserve more lives.
At that point, Hange could not even recall what words she used or what tone she kept. She started to treat those story times she promised the students after every lesson as a reprieve, a way to just imagine once again the past that she had missed, and the memory that made her relax the most was that of Levi.
It had been three months since she started teaching. She guessed that she had probably started bringing him up after the first month. It had occurred to her until that moment that she had never really implied his actual fate.
Did she talk about him in present tense?
Did she say something to make them think that he had survived?
You know Levi, it feels like my time has come. I want to act as cool as possible so let me go out like this…
Her chest constricted as she remembered how she felt saying those words. At that moment she thought she was going to die.
How to question orders. How to talk things through.
Levi had never questioned her orders or tried to talk things through in public, in fear of undermining her position.  At that moment, right in front of everyone, Levi had said, "No. You're the commander. They need you out in the field. I'm not letting you die."
He had made a good point as he prepared his gear. Although he was humanity's strongest soldier at that time, he had become a little more than deadweight due to recent injuries. Either way, everyone had enough fate in his skills then, to know that even with those injuries, he'd still have enough power to take down a few titans and buy them some time to launch the ship.
While she was still a commander in the midst of a war, she had to shut out all raw emotion while she watched Levi take down titan after titan, as the airship took her further away from where she had wanted to be. She did too good of a job turning off her emotions then and her last memory of Levi had become a free spot in her mind.
Levi is alive. Levi exists in all nighters back in the office. He exists in the late nights in the forest, injured and half asleep.
As she allowed herself to relive that moment of two years ago, the only moment Levi blatantly disobeyed orders, the dam of emotions she had kept closed somewhere inside her started to flow free. She poked a few holes into it, allowing herself a few tears as she carried herself home.
It felt like it took ages but Hange finally found herself inside her empty apartment. She locked the door behind her and slid down once again on the cold wooden floor. She neglected to turn on the lights. The darkness that slowly swallowed the room as the sun started to set, only reminded her that she was alone, alone to her own devices and her own thoughts.
Levi existed before but now he is dead.
The free spot in her mind started to disappear, replaced by what should have been the raw emotion at seeing him burn and fall into the deep ocean. The grief came in large waves and Hange drowned in the emotions she had failed to release a year ago.
She called in sick the next morning and the day after and she sat alone on her bed, only standing up to eat or use the bathroom.
By what seemed to be the fourth day, it was as if she were floating. The waves had receded and she was left to survey for any damage.
Did you marry him? Another burning question came up from within her.
Hange rephrased it, given her present circumstances. Would I have married him?
Would marrying him have meant experiencing a continuation to those late night trainings as new soldiers?
Would it have meant a sequel to those late night conversations in the commander's office over tea?
Would it have meant someone welcoming her home every night after a long day’s work?
Would it have meant someone would be sitting beside her at that moment, hugging her, while she was too paralyzed by emotion to even get up?
Hange shook as she tried to imagine how it felt like again to be hugged. She knew she could have easily called someone, Mikasa, maybe Armin for a little company. Levi though was the last one she felt completely comfortable crying to, the last person she had ever shown complete vulnerability to.
And without him, she was alone.
The cruel truth was that that memory of Levi alive had overpowered her memory of his death. That sudden realization came as the memory once again became vivid, at a time where she had no more responsibilities of keeping soldiers alive in the midst of a battle.
Hange kicked her side table and watched as it toppled over, her belongings spilling out from underneath. She smashed her chair on top of the side table then the flower vase on the dresser.
The crown and the military had given her enough compensation to replace everything and that small afterthought was what only fueled her motivation to just release the pent up emotions. Everyone she had ever lost died for them anyway.
She went for the dresser to the side of the door and pulled out the drawers one by one, spilling out the contents on the floor before smashing them into the pile of remains of the furniture she had broken only a while ago.
She stopped at the third drawer when she saw the familiar green cloak and the wings of freedom insignia. At Levi’s last moments, she was wearing his cloak since she had expected to be the one to go.
As she spread out his cloak on the floor, she smelled traces of the familiar odor of titan’s blood. A year cooped up in the drawer had preserved the original scent. She buried her face on it and started to make out the scent of blood and sweat. At a certain point, she also made out the traces as well of the scent of old wood. The cloak had also started to adjust to the new world with no titans.
She threw the cloak on her still intact bed and sat cross legged on the floor.
Am I the only one who hasn’t moved on?  She let out a burst of laughter, and sprawled on the cold wooden floor.
The Titans are gone. The Survey Corps is gone. Everyone is dead. He’s dead.
                                              Free Spot
In total, Hange took a week out of work. She used that extra time to clean up and apologize to her neighbors after that breakdown.
Surprisingly, most of them had been understanding. Hange though did not want to use the excuse of being a shell shocked soldier to be a bother to anyone and had compensated all those who lived closest to her.
When she finally showed up back to the classroom, she was surprised to see all the students on their seats as if they had expected her to be back that day.
Of course, the substitute probably told them.
“You’re surprisingly behaved today.” Hange commented as she emptied her book bag on the table.
It was Lena who came out from behind her desk with a box and placed it on the teacher’s table.
“We heard you got really sick for a while so we got you a present which could maybe help you stay healthy,” she explained, still looking apologetic.
“Thank you.” Hange blushed as she started to untie the bow and opened the box underneath. Hange fought back a wave of nostalgia and the stinging sensation in her eyes as she opened the box to find a tea set, complete with a bag of black tea on the side.
“My dad told me tea is good for the body,” one student volunteered.
Hange put one hand to her mouth, as she felt her lips tremble. A part of her wanted to laugh and a part of her wanted to cry. She had told them enough stories to keep them busy for months but she had never mentioned tea. It was an irrelevant detail in the grand scheme of things, of course she wouldn’t. “He liked black tea. We spent a lot of our free time talking over tea,” she admitted as she traced the rim of the tea cup, holding it the same way she had seen him hold it countless times before.
For a second, Lena looked panicked. “I’m sorry we didn’t mean to… You don’t have to talk about it anymore. ”
“No. It was my fault. I’m sorry.” She stood up and put her hand on the head of the young girl. “It looks like everyone pretty much guessed what happened to that soldier huh?” She smiled, keeping her tone deliberately light.
A lot of the students kept a sullen look and Hange was sure someone had explained it to them or at the least, they had picked it up on their own.
“Well, that’s the reality of war. A lot of the soldiers don’t get to marry and have kids. Just so that everyone here could live in peace.”
That night, Hange emptied the contents of the gift box on her kitchen table.
Levi would have liked the tea set. Hange thought to herself as she allowed the black tea leaves to boil on the kettle. The smell of the black tea wafted through the air and Hange closed her eyes as she allowed herself to be brought back again to those many nights when he was the one who would serve her a cup of warm tea.
Did I add too much water? Did I add too much black leaves? Would he be disappointed?
She poured the contents of the kettle into the cup and watched the tea leaves settle to the bottom of the cup.
She positioned her hands on top of the teacup, attempting to hold the cup just like he used to. The heat right on top of the boiling water, almost scalded her palm and Hange gave up after a few tries.
I never really understood how you did it.
The warm malty taste of black tea in her mouth was nostalgic. Hange only realized then that she had unknowingly abandoned this luxury right after the war. It was as if her subconscious had been protecting her from a breakdown just like the one she just had.
The smell and the taste of black tea had always been about Levi who was long gone by then. As she caressed the intricate linings of the cup though, she also started to think of the efforts of the students who had thought up the present and saved up for it.
She looked back at the memories leading up to his sacrifice at the hands of the colossal titans. The pain was still there but it was far from excruciating. It was bittersweet. Somehow, she did not need to delude herself anymore. She just had to let that bundle of emotions and memories within her untangle themselves.
Levi was gone. To Hange though, he was still alive.
He was alive in the black tea she had allowed herself to enjoy once again.
He was alive in the anecdotes she had told her class in between lessons.
He was alive in every single person who was alive because of his sacrifice.
It’s the living who give meaning to the soldiers’ deaths. It's the living who keep the dead alive.

keep seeing the "how would the clones react to reader getting their period" but it's never with the bad batch so... maybe make one with them? please? 👉👈
now that you’ve brought this to my attention i’m so damn confused as to how i’ve written not one, not two, but THREE fics with this concept and none of them involved my bad boys. i’ll remedy this problem immediately-jj
hunter’s hypersensitive senses result in him being able to sense the hormone change the first time it happens when working with them
his reaction was indeed “what the shit” and a smidge of a bluescreen bc he didn’t know what it was, just that your hormone levels were changing & he was worried bc there seemed to be no outside stimulus causing it
once he got used to it, he ended up being a great clock for it. sometimes you’re too caught up in work to focus on when it’ll hit, but hunter can smell the change from a mile away, always making sure to tell you when to pack your emergency bag on missions
tech also helps with keeping track of when it’ll hit bc hunter is sometimes incapacitated by the strength of his senses and can’t always keep track of your cycle. he’s got it programmed into his vambrace and usually will have hunter to double check the system if the latter’s up for it
his calculations haven’t been wrong yet
but tech is the most knowledgeable abt how it impacts you and how to help not that that’s a high bar to be over but still
he ends up getting a heating pad for you from one of the medics on some base or another on a day where cramps were hitting full force
the guys still think it’s hilarious how red tech turned when you kissed him on the cheek in uncontrolled glee the day he gave it to you
makes sure you have all the pills you need and does get you iron supplements when your flow is heavier than normal
crosshair was a bit squeamish abt it but was too proud to ask questions
voted most likely to say the wrong thing and get you in a bad mood
the only way to get back on your good side was to bring you food and watch your favorite holodramas in your bunk
those are some of the best times spent with the sniper bc he’s not having to fill the asshole shoes he made for himself
it eventually became a ploy to where cross would purposefully say shit so the guys would tell him to make you feel better. you grew to be able to tell when it was him just wanting to spend time with you and not him being genuinely dense
he became the favorite to go cheer you up if smth made you sad. he wouldn’t say much, but it would still be effective in making you laugh
if you were a cuddly type, he ended up eventually coming to enjoy it
there was no way in hell crosshair was gonna admit to enjoying some of your shows outside of your bunk and you were okay with that
wrecker screamed v loud when he first saw blood in your bunk (this was after hunter and tech had gotten used to it so they were able to help with explaining since you were not in the mood)
he apologized for making a commotion but you knew it came from a place of caring abt you so you weren’t really mad at the fact it worsened your headache
if massages are what you need, wrecker to the rescue
at first tech is there to tell him what spots are in the more dire need of relief, but he eventually is able to know where you need relief the most with a finely tuned eye (sorry for the unintentional one-eye joke)
your stomach, back, shoulders, hell even your feet would be taken care of by the callused hands at the first sign of them hurting you a bit more than usual
him and crosshair are absolutely astounded by the shit your body does and it seems that he never stops finding questions to ask you
he ends up buying you food one day and you tear up a little. the resulting panic and mayhem is one you wished was recorded
soon knows exactly what foods are your favorite during this time and will soon be able to catch on to when it happens, and have the food waiting for you

Hey hey hey
Think I’m going to go vegan ! Any advice ?
supplement b12 and if you’re a woman, iron and calcium. look at the things you currently eat and figure out the easy switches first; breakfast cereal with fortified plant milk (you can google vegan cereals and find all the mainstream accidentally vegan ones) or toast for breakfast. lunches, easy sandwiches with fake meat, or go falafel or hummus for cheaper, throw some leafy greens in there and some sauce, or even just pb and js. there are a lot of good base dinners that you can add to or alter, like pasta, hot pots, soups, stews, etc. supermarkets are also full of alternatives now, you can have a look around and see what you can find. if they’re a bit more expensive, then what i do is just get them on special because supermarkets rotate specials within the food types, so you’ll tend to always find something on special. many fast food places, restaurants, and wherever else also often have vegan options.
cheap lazy vegan is a great youtube channel for recipes.
and the thing people forget about is non food veganism. no products that contain animals or are tested on animals. dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, conditioner, clothes, deodorant, toothpaste, etc. the easy thing to do is just google “vegan *insert product type* and you’ll find something. pretty much every supermarket holds at least one vegan brand in each of these categories, so it’s not hard. if you can’t find something, don’t feel bad about using what  you can get until you find somewhere that you can get it vegan. it’s about trying your best and continuously trying to improve. no leather or wool in clothes, which is pretty easy. medications are exempt from veganism for obvious reasons.
then, there’s actions. no going to zoos, no killing bugs unless in self defense, like mosquitos biting you. never buying bred animals, obviously. from there, individual activism and actions are up to you, although you could just end it there with the minimum of veganism and you’d be doing far more than most.
but the most important thing to remember is don’t just take away animal products, you have to replace them. and pay attention to what you need. you don’t have to count nutrients and calories, but take note of kind of what you’re gaining. “breakfast cereal and plant milk is fortified with a bunch of stuff, so that’s a good breakfast. take my calcium now to avoid iron later”. “lunch should be about calories to have energy, make sure it’s got some protein and carbs”. “dinner is a good time to get some veggies in, get more carbs and protein. take my multis/iron/b12 now”. and snacks can be filling in gaps. “found this good snack with hemp/chia/flax seeds, so i’ll be getting omegas and fibre” “i didn’t get much protein today so i’ll just have some crackers/apples/bananas and peanut butter (all of those are super good with pb)”, “found some plant yoghurt for healthy fats and probiotics”. you can easily search up which foods give what. think of it like that, you need carbs, protein, fats, and fibre, those are the macros. from there as long as you are eating balanced with some veggies, grains and taking the needed supplements, you should be able to get all you need without worrying too much. a good thing to also do if you can afford it is to go to the doctor maybe once every 6-12 months for a blood test to check b12 and iron.

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru Chapter 3 - Practice Begins (Part 5)
This chapter took a lifetime lol

Students who were earnestly tackling long-distance ran at least six-hundred kilometers in a month. When it was time for the final stretch, it was common for some to run more than a thousand kilometers a month. Kakeru did long training runs, aiming for that level. He wished the residents of Chikusei-sou success, but that didn’t mean he intended to match his own training to the level of a newly-formed team.
“Kakeru, you ran a little too much.”
Kiyose, who was checking the training diaries, told him that after the main training. It was when everyone was working on leisurely cooling down while changing clothes and stretching on the grass of the field.
For the first two weeks, everyone struggled to make it through the regimen, in dire straits with muscle pain, blood blisters and awful foot blisters. However, the members had potential from the beginning. Now, it seemed that their bodies were adjusting little by little: running was becoming a bit more fun, and they had managed to assimilate the regimen written on the training table.
Inwardly, Kakeru was surprised at the high adaptability of the residents, but it was ultimately just beginner’s training. He was pursuing running on a whole different level. Unless someone stopped him, he tended to run for as long and as far as he liked.
“Even at your age, your body isn’t fully matured yet, so you can’t push yourself too hard. What will you do if you overwork your body now and injure it?”
Lately, Kakeru’s body felt very light. He felt that the more he ran, the stronger he got, and the more his speed improved. That was why in actuality, Kiyose’s warning didn’t hit home for him. Even so, he obediently answered, “Yes.”
“On the other hand, Prince is running too little.”
In Prince’s training diary, the word “treadmill” was written once every two days instead of “evening jog”.
“I thought that honesty was one of your best points but…this is actually just ‘I skipped jogging and read manga’, right?”
Even if Kiyose invited Prince to jog with him in the evening, Prince had built a barricade out of manga and stubbornly refused to open the door to his room.
Pursued by Kiyose, Prince desperately explained himself. “That’s true, but I really do read manga while using the treadmill. Lately, I feel like I’ve been gaining some muscle on my legs.”
“Let me see.”
Kiyose touched Prince’s calves to confirm. Seeing that, Yuki warned him, “Haiji, you should really stop that leg-touching habit of yours soon.”
Kiyose got up with a “hmm”.
“It’s true that you’ve made some progress in morning jogging and main practice. But working out on a treadmill while reading manga isn’t a good idea; it’ll ruin your form and it won’t help you develop the sensation of running on a road. I hope that you’ll join the evening jogs every day as well.”
Before Kiyose’s quiet, forceful power, Prince had no choice but to swear, “I will join.” As for Kakeru, he was relieved: he wanted Prince to run outside as much as possible. The treadmill was installed in his room, which was already bearing a lot of weight, and every time Prince trained there, Kakeru’s ceiling creaked like it was going to burst open.
“Unlike our honest Prince, there’s a king who is submitting a diary that’s filled with lies and embellishments.”
At Kiyose’s words, everyone looked at King and laughed. “You found out?” King asked, picking at the dirt with the toe of his shoe like he was embarrassed. “It’s because I can’t run at all and my times aren’t getting any better. I thought that was bad, so I showed off a little in my report.”
“It’s still only two weeks since you started training. Results won’t show that quickly,” Kiyose told King gently. “To become the quiz king, you need to steadily build up your knowledge and skills to hit the buzzer fast, right? It’s the same with track; cheap tricks won’t work. The physical strength and skills are acquired through daily training. Then, the courage to look at your true ability straight on is what will save you in the end in the actual event. I know that you’ve been training seriously, so you can just write down the truth.”
King nodded. “I’ll do that.”
“There’s no particular problems with anyone else so far. But, Nico-chan-senpai.”
“Yeah?” Nico-chan, called by Kiyose, stopped fixing his shoelaces and looked up.
“You haven’t been eating a lot lately.”
“That’s not true.”
“Don’t lie. Who do you think is making your food?”
It was Kiyose. Nothing could be hidden from the master of Chikusei-sou, who not only made the training plans but also the residents’ food.
Nico-chan explained himself while scratching his cheek. “Look, I’m stocky, you know? I need to lose some weight.”
“There’s no need for that,” Kiyose cut him off flatly. “You work your body during training, so you’ll lose weight even if you continue to eat the way you have until now. An unreasonable diet can cause your body to break down, so please eat a balanced and proper diet.”
“Got it. But if I can’t tighten up my body well in training, then I’ll go on a diet.”
“I’ve calculated that you should be able to tighten up over the summer for sure,” Kiyose conceded. “If it looks like it’s not working out, then we’ll think about it then. Don’t do anything reckless on your own.”
“Is it advantageous to be lighter?” Shindou, who was listening to the conversation, asked, tilting his head. “Won’t you have less energy if you lose weight?”
The theorist Yuki answered his question.
“Of course, unreasonable diets are banned. You’ll get anemia, and if you have that, it’ll be dangerous for your heart since that’ll put a burden on it. But fundamentally, you should tighten up your body—whittle away the extra fat and improve your cardiopulmonary functions. Even racing cars have their bodies as light as possible to make their engines more powerful. It’s the same as that.”
“I see.” Shindou withdrew in understanding.
“It’s just as Yuki said.” Kiyose looked over everyone. “Just like racing cars, where the body’s balance is confirmed and the engine’s performance is enhanced through repeatedly doing test drives, a runner also builds up their body by running every day. The backlash will be big if you seek a sudden change, so I want you all to be careful.”
Icing your muscles immediately if they seem to be staying hot after training, even just a little bit. Never missing stretches and massages. Taking supplements for iron and other nutrients which people tend to lack.
After teaching them the various ways of preventing injuries and maintaining their health, Kiyose said, “Now, you’re all dismissed.”
On the way back to Chikusei-sou, Kakeru ended up running next to Nico-chan by chance. Nico-chan was worried about his weight and currently abstaining from smoking, and he didn’t seem to be able to relieve his stress well. He looked somewhat somber.
At times like these, one should provide a fun and lighthearted topic of conversation. However, Kakeru tried thinking of all sorts of things, but couldn’t come up with anything.
“Kakeru, what’s for dinner today?”
In the end, Nico-chan was the one who started talking. I really am no good at anything other than running. Kakeru was dejected indeed.
“It’s probably curry. Haiji-san asked me to go to the shopping district to buy curry powder before the main practice.”
Something flickered at the back of Kakeru’s mind. That’s right, the shopping district. Didn’t Musa invite me to go and see his evening jog? Maybe it could be a diversion for Nico-chan.
“Nico-chan-senpai, would you like to run with me tonight?”
“Why are you talking like you’re picking me up all of a sudden?”
Yuki, who was a bit ahead of them, turned back. “Where are you taking me, darling?” he teasingly cut into the conversation with an expressionless face, as though he was wearing an iron mask.
“The shopping district,” Kakeru answered seriously. The three of them were the members who jogged on their own. It was perfect, so they decided to take a look at the “interesting thing” happening to the group jogging together.
As expected, dinner was curry. Kiyose’s personality of not cutting corners was demonstrated in his cooking as well. Before the main training, he boiled the onions until they were soft and tender, and adjusted the taste by uniquely blending the several commercially available curry powders that Kakeru bought.
But no one noticed the depth of the flavor of the curry sauce; everyone seemed more joyful at the fact that the curry contained a lot of boneless pork ribs. Even the colorfully arranged salads were devoured in an instant without a single chance to be visually appreciated.
“It wasn’t worth making this.” Kiyose, with an expression that was halfway between resentment and sadness, put the empty plates in the sink.
Nico-chan, who seemed to have decided to eat properly, said, “I’ll just have a little more.” He stood before the rice cooker. “More than taste or anything else, just let these guys eat meat.”
The kitchen didn’t fit a table for everyone to eat at. When the dining table was filled, the people who came to eat later would get out a small tea table and sit in the hallway in front of the kitchen.
Shindou and Musa arrived when Kakeru was still eating his curry. The dining table was completely filled, and though the twins were nearing dessert, they didn’t attempt to clear their seats. They were currently in a fierce argument over whether to cover strawberries in condensed milk or milk and sugar.
Kakeru, who was mindful of hierarchical relationships no matter what, held his spoon in his mouth and picked up his curry-filled plate, about to give up his seat at the table. Shindou hurriedly stopped him. “It’s fine, Kakeru.”
“Senpai-kouhai relationships do not matter in Aotake,” Musa said. “That is why it is so comfortable, right?”
“Yes.”
Kakeru sat back down at the table and ate the rest of his curry. For him, who had spent his three years of high school in his track and field club’s dorm, the fact that the upperclassmen ate in the hallway and the underclassmen ate at the table was unbelievable.
From his experience, as an underclassman he had to attend to his seniors’ personal needs, such as washing their shoes and doing their laundry. And of course his turn for the bath was near the end. That was the extent of it, and he didn’t really mind it as long as he could devote himself to practice without his seniors getting jealous of him.
Conversely, when he became an upperclassman, Kakeru didn’t want to let his underclassmen wash his shoes; they were important objects that were required for running. How his former senpai could so easily leave their shoes in someone else’s hands, he had no idea. His teammates in the same grade as him gossiped about him behind his back, saying things like “He’s messing up the order of things” and “Don’t try to look cool”. Kakeru ignored it all. No one could catch up to his speed, and if he could run without reservations when he became an upperclassman, then he was satisfied with just that. He thought he would let them say whatever they wanted.
Within the club, Kakeru had come to be kept at a distance, treated as an aloof and solitary existence. To put it another way, he was somewhat isolated.
But in Chikusei-sou, it was easy to breathe. Nobody cared about the difference between the years of their birth. They said what they wanted to say to each other. Even now, Nico-chan had just put an end to the twins’ fight. It was done forcefully by throwing both condensed milk and milk and sugar into the two’s strawberry bowls.
“You’re awful, Nico-chan-senpai! I wanted to eat it with milk and sugar!”
“I put it in for you, didn’t I.”
“I definitely prefer condensed milk.”
“I said I put it in, didn’t I.”
Leaving the exchange between the twins—who were far from reaching an agreement—and Nico-chan aside, Kakeru helped Kiyose in cleaning up. They stood next to each other at the sink, washing the dishes.
“Haiji-san, what time do you run near the shopping district?”
“Around eight. Why?”
“No, it’s nothing.”
Musa, who had come to put his plate away, winked at Kakeru.
Kakeru, Nico-chan, and Yuki went to the children’s playground at the entrance to the shopping district. Running in circles between the sandbox, swings, and slide was monotonous, but there was no other way to keep an eye on the shopping district while jogging.
They ran around thirty laps beneath the dim outside lights in the park, and just when they were feeling pretty dizzy, Kiyose and the others from Chikusei-sou appeared. They turned the corner and entered the large shopping district that led to the station. Their running abilities varied, so the procession was long and stretched out, but Prince somehow managed to keep up.
“They’re here.”
“Let’s try following them secretly.”
Kakeru and the others left the park and entered the shopping district.
There were many private shops lining both sides of the narrow street: the bakery, which had its shutters down after finishing a day’s work; the fish dealer, shouting loudly to sell the last of their wares before closing time; the snack bar, where customers were starting to come in for the night.
Lamps that imitated paper-covered lanterns cast an orange light over the street. People walking home from the station and shoppers aiming for limited-time sales crowded the shopping district.
“No matter how you look at it, Prince is too slow,” Yuki grumbled. “It’ll be hard to run without passing him.”
Kakeru and the others hid behind the passersby and slipped past Prince. When King’s back became visible, they also managed to pass him without being noticed.
“It’s Haiji.” Yuki indicated forward with his chin. Kiyose was running towards them.
“Why’s he coming back?”
“It’s too soon for him to have turned back from the station.”
The three tried to slip past by looking down, but Kiyose didn’t fail to notice them.
“Why are you guys sneaking around?” Kiyose turned and ran next to Kakeru and the others, who were running towards the station, to accompany them.
“What are you doing, Haiji-san?” Kakeru asked.
“I came to see how the guys running in the back are doing,” Kiyose answered.
His management abilities were flawless as usual. Kakeru wondered just how far he was running to keep an eye on everyone. He was a bit worried; his legs weren’t even fully recovered yet, apparently.
Meanwhile, Kiyose was carrying on the conversation with Yuki.
“Kakeru said something interesting was happening with you guys, so we came to see.”
“Oh, you mean that?”
Kiyose pointed straight ahead, where Shindou and Musa were running side by side.
“What are they doing?”
It was understandable that Nico-chan was puzzled. Shindou and Musa were wearing white T-shirts, but there were words written on their backs in jet black permanent marker. Kakeru strained his eyes and read the words on the two’s backs as they were running through the middle of the shopping district.
We’re aiming for the Hakone Ekiden!!
Supporters wanted for Kansei University Track and Field Club
“…That’s some proper lettering,” Yuki commented.
“Apparently, Shindou did it by hand,” Kiyose explained matter-of-factly, his breathing not even disturbed. “I told him to stop since it’s embarrassing, but he insisted that we needed it to raise funds. He actually made enough for everyone, supposedly.”
I’m definitely not wearing it, Kakeru thought. Shindou was always quiet and calm, with an air of aloofness like he wasn’t connected to this earthly world, but he seemed to be quite practical.
“That’s surprising. To think that Shindou-san would collect money so actively.”
“Through running, you can see unexpected sides of people,” Kiyose said with a smile. “Shindou, Musa,” he called out to the two running ahead.
“It seems that these three want to cooperate with your business activities.”
We never said that, we never said that! Kakeru and the others shook their heads in unison. Musa raised his hand a little towards Kakeru, who joined them.
“I will give you one of Shindou-san’s handmade T-shirts as well, Kakeru. Also, please take a look at that person.”
There was a bicycle weaving through the crowd of people in the shopping district. The person riding it was a girl around the same age as them. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail and she was peddling her bike with all her might, her eyes fixed on something. Even from a distance, it was clear that her profile, which could be seen occasionally, was refined and beautiful.
“That’s the daughter of the owner of Yaokatsu,” Kiyose said.
“How do you know her?” Kakeru, who was preoccupied with the girl’s profile, moved his gaze to Kiyose running next to him.
“I’ve been coming here to buy food to cook for everyone at Aotake for a long time now, so I’ve seen her around.”
“Then have you ever chatted with her?”
“Just stuff like ‘these daikon have very nice leaves’ and ‘here’s your two-hundred yen change,’” Kiyose laughed from the corner of his mouth. “Are you curious about her, Kakeru?”
“No, not really.”
He returned his gaze forward. The bike was still heading for the station, popping in and out of the crowd.
“We’ve become a bit famous thanks to this.” Shindou pulled at the hem of his T-shirt. “Every day, we form a line and run like this, and the shopkeepers who recognize Haiji-san call out to us. ‘You’re a student staying in that shabby apartment, aren’t you? Looks like you’re starting something interesting,’ they say.”
“The landlord is a regular at the go parlor here,” Kiyose said. “Apparently, he’s going around spreading word that the ‘residents of Aotake are aiming for the Hakone Ekiden’.”
It was probably a strategy to get the locals involved in the plan so they wouldn’t be able to say “I quit” so easily. Kakeru was impressed with Kiyose and the landlord’s abilities to steadily remove the obstacles in their way. Since he was the first to announce his participation, it seemed that Shindou also intended to take the initiative in doing publicity. The carefree and easygoing residents were rapidly getting carried along by the flow towards the Hakone Ekiden. Will it be okay? Kakeru felt uneasy. However, it was nice and heartening that the people outside of Chikusei-sou showed interest in Kakeru and the others aiming for the Hakone Ekiden.
“She has been showing up when we are jogging recently,” Musa lightly pointed at the daughter of Yaokatsu who was riding her bike. “Her goal is…”
Drawn in, Kakeru, Nico-chan and Yuki’s gazes looked further ahead of the bike. The person who was running there was…
“The twins!?” Kakeru shouted in shock.
“Which one!?” Nico-chan also moaned. Musa shrugged.
“Well, I don’t know.”
“It doesn’t matter, they’re identical,” Yuki coolly pointed out.
I’m sensing love in the air, Kakeru thought. Jouta and Jouji, running next to each other, didn’t seem like they noticed at all. He would have to advise them to take a proper bath as soon as possible.
For now, it seemed certain that the residents of Chikusei-sou, who worked hard to jog every morning and evening, were becoming familiar to the people of the shopping district.

Owl House s2e4
I keep wanting to post my “““liveblog”““ commentary on this one but it made me Too Emotional to do my usual raving. (My threshold for verbiage when I’m Actually Feeling Emotions is waaay low, okay. At a certain point, I legitimately can’t Make Words Fit the Feelings. So I never figured out what I really want to say about this episode.)
But with my spoon count being critically low lately and the fact that I’m now 3 episodes behind, I just want to post it As Is and get caught up!
So here’s my commentary with Massive Spoilers for “Keeping Up A-Fear-Ances”!
I have a Lot of Questions alongside the feelings, too.
Oooh, stone backstory? Unexpected but welcome.
So uhh. Where did Lilith get her blue stone? Just the "fashionable" thing?
--
"We have never seen a curse quite like this."
I want to know who came up with this crock of horrible. Had they ever experimented with it on someone else? The demon equivalent of animal testing? Is it lesser curses combined like the unholy glyph amalgamation Eda created?
--
Upon rewatch: I'm realizing this is where she probably got the idea to use potions for it! Overhearing the Healing Coven guy recommending it. Eda Actually Implemented the Healer’s Advice, and LO. IT MADE A DIFFERENCE.
--
Oh wow, I'm not very good at gauging visuals, but Eda must have run away quite young.
--
Tumblr media
The poster on the bottom right.
Tumblr media
The hair. The guyliner.
Eda listened to emo boy bands, apparently.
--
Guh.
Tumblr media
I Will Never Look Upon Sharp Iron Railings The Same Way Ever Again.
(it’s a Locked Tomb thing. It’s a Pavlovian reaction. It’s also a Nexus thing and it’s also Big Emotional. HHHHFF)
--
...Oh. Huh. So... the suitcase kinda just. Came out of nowhere?
--
THE ALARM CLOCK HAD A HEART.
First Hooty, now this thing?
--
Eda's morning routine looks so much like me on weekdays.
--
The fridge just says "C O O L".
--
"I had no idea this is what I did to you. I am so, so sorry."
Big :C Feelings. Too big for me to write about, but I'm feeling them.
--
"What? Suddenly curious about my past?"
"Always. ALWAYS curious."
Oh, dang, me too. Definitely me too.
(Give me ALL the worldbuilding! All the character developement! All the lore! All the random little bits of trivia that makes this world so CHARMING. But especially about the Clawthornes.)
--
...What's that thing on Gwendolyn's wrist? Right wrist? It kinda reminds me of flan. Or maybe a banana split.
I feel like it's maybe a coven mark, but I can't tell what it is, let alone which one it's for. She joined the Beast Coven, right?
--
"And who knows what they put in those nasty concoctions."
"Actually, I do."
So why doesn't she make her own, then? Why does she have to buy them from an elixir guy if she knows what's in them?
(Then again, I know what's in my medications and supplements, but that doesn't mean I can grow my own valerian and rhodiola and make my own vitamins and CERTAINLY can't make my own prescription meds, even if I theoretically Know How.)
--
...I am so very glad that my mother doesn't treat me like Gwendolyn treats Lilith. My father's kinda... ehhhh. It's super complicated with him... and don't even get me started on my stepmother.
But my mother WILL go out of her way to spend time with me, wants to talk to me, frequently asks how my week's going, helps me figure things out, or just talk... and it's really nice to have her.
--
Gwen, basically: I'll only help you if you help me.
Does she really need Luz's help that bad? Would she have helped her if Luz couldn't give her anything in return? And really, what DOES Luz offer her?
--
...squints.
Squints real hard.
What use does a healer need with those powerful artifacts?
Big Distrust.
(Post-rewatch reaction: V I N D I C A T I O N . )
--
Snowy Ribcage, Swampy Toes, Palm Stings?
So the Giant (Titan?*) that comprises Boiling Isles isn't just a decoration, it's used for geography. We've seen, if I remember correctly, the ribcage and (leg bones, maybe?), but this tells us the skeletal remains may indeed be complete!
(* I've been following a theory that it's the bones of The Titan they venerate, possibly even where their magic comes from. That does beg questions on how it died, if it's even really dead, and how long it's been there if it's so decayed. How long before there was life on the corpus?)
--
"didn't even stick around to watch you hatch"-- I mean, to be fair, from the sound of it, with King saying "something happened" (but he was too small to do anything), he probably WANTED to stick around and watch him hatch, But Something Happened.
--
"Knife season came early this year."
STKFGHNLDLVJAI. Speaking of charming lore. Knife season?
--
...the... night market... even has ice cream? I mean I'm glad they get to experience ice cream on The Boiling Isles, but now I'm seriously trying to figure out what it tastes like.
Especially "Franken-Fruit".
--
Oh no.
Oh no.
Baby's first transformation. <:c
--
....what happens if the "inner beast" catches inner Eda? Is that her way of fighting the curse even when she's “overtaken”?
--
Is Gwen saying "sweet flea", right, not "sweet glee"?

"Still got it!"
So it looks like Mama's where Eda gets at least some of her power from, huh?
And/or cleverness that kept Eda on the run.
How many times has Mama Clawthorne done this, I wonder?
--
.......So Mama Gwen has both beastkeeping magic, and could summon those tiles, which seems like it would be more construction coven magic?
--
Does this count as a kaiju fight? (probably not because they're not big enough. But the thought amused me.)
--
"Dang. That is GOOD elixir."
Miracle in a bottle, love.
(I know the feel because when they finally FINALLY tried the meds that actually WORK with my absolutely miserable stomach condition, the relief just to be able to do things normally SOMETIMES is so immense. When you spend so long desperate to make it stop and it just, doesn't, after trying *so many things*, when you finally find something that works even just MOST of the time, you take it and you keep it as close as you can.)
--
I don't really have the spoons to get into it or even figure out how to Do Vague Emoting right now, but every Gwendolyn is saying in the last quarter of the episode is Making Me Emotional. (Especially when she's calming her daughters. T~T)

"Titan's Blood"? Bones I get, but where do they get the blood??? (I want to say it's a plant sap or something, like dragon's blood, but I don't want to commit to it.)
--
Not the only human to have lived in Bonesborough? "Titan's Blood"?
Why am I thinking Emperor Belos? (He seems to need some sort of... ichor... to power him. Like artificial witch bile, maybe.)
Although, Gwen talks about her "great grandmother" telling her about this other human. 50 years (of Belos' rule) could be two or three generations, more like two really, but we don't know how old Belos is, or really where he comes from. He could have been that human her great-grandmother knew about before he became Emperor.
--
Also, the fact that "Titan's blood" can cause leaks BOTH ways... Doppelganger Luz?
Real question is, was she an INTENTIONAL plant, or an accidental leak?
--
The Suitcase Portal can be opened intentionally, so can Titan's Blood be used intentionally, too? (Is the Suitcase Portal powered by Titan's Blood?)
--
"Someday MY hair is gonna be big enough to do that, too."
Girl's got a dream!
(And King's "You actually WANT that?" made me grin.)
--
So they even reincorporated the fire bees from s2e1! But have they addressed what happened with the scrying potion Lilith made up for them? What did they see? Anything worth mentioning? Or was the narrative framing meant to be more about Lilith Making The Gesture than The Discoveries?

I have a chronic illness too. Do you have any tips for getting up? I cant get myself out of bed.
i’m really sorry, hon, but this is sorta... non-specific? like could you maybe give me a few more details on your chronic illness and what big symptoms it’s causing, if you don’t mind sharing?
i mean, there’s like... try to eat as healthy as you can, but ‘eating healthy’ means different things for different people. so many people tell you to eat tons of raw vegetables, but raw vegetables tear up my stomach and, to give too much information, come back out undigested. other people thrive on tons of vegetables, but my body seems to really like animal protein and carbs like oats, potatoes, bread, etc. believe me, i know it’s REALLY hard to eat well when you’re stuck horizontal, but try to get enough protein, try to eat some sort of fruit and veg every day (my trick for that is buying pouches of baby food puree, which are tasty little servings of fruit and veg puree you can keep next to your bed), try to get enough iron and B vitamins, and try not to eat a ton of sugar.
you should probably also get your vitamin D levels checked, or go ahead and try taking a vitamin D3 supplement, because being stuck inside all day makes it likely you’re D deficient and that will cause worse fatigue.
do you happen to know if you snore while you sleep? if you have sleep apnea, that can make your exhaustion worse and cause unrefreshing sleep. if you’ve ever woken up (or had someone told you that you’ve woken up) choking or gasping for air, that’s probably sleep apnea and you should talk to a sleep doctor.
it’s really hard advice to follow, but i always sleep better when i’ve done some physical exertion. if i can’t sleep well, or if i’m lying in bed all day but i have insomnia, that just makes the fatigue worse, so it helps to gather myself up to do just a tiny bit of exercise so i can sleep better so i can be a tiny bit less tired. don’t make yourself more sick by pushing too hard. if you can’t do it then you can’t do it.
do you have chronic pain? being in constant pain drains energy all by itself, and it makes it harder to sleep. i literally can’t sleep unless i’ve gotten my pain under control. if you’re not treating your pain, the fatigue will be much worse.
depression also worsens fatigue, so if you have untreated (or under-treated) depression, or other mental illness, that will make everything harder.
but even with all that said, i can’t give you any concrete how-tos, because i can’t get myself out of bed either. i spend about 90% of my day, every single day, in bed. i wish i had the answers to make us well and let us live our lives, but i just don’t know, sweetie, i’m sorry. i hope your situations improves a little.
