Seventeen-year-old Peter Parker, secretly the Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man of Queens, New York, has lost family and had to restart his life more times than the average kid (even one with superpowers!).

His parents Richard and Mary Parker died in an aeroplane crash when he was five. His Uncle Ben, who - along with his Aunt May - had taken him under his wing in the aftermath of his parents' abrupt passing, was shot and killed right in front of him when he was only fourteen. His Aunt May had a young stroke and passed away during the five year gap where Peter was busy being dusted (thanks Thanos!). And Tony Stark, who had only just found out he was Peter's biological father the year before Thanos attacked, when Peter was sixteen, but hadn't wanted to disrupt Peter's civilian life so had left him with his aunt, sacrificed himself to save the world, but more importantly Peter, in the final endgame battle against Thanos.

Now, Peter has blipped back into being five years after being dusted only to find he has lost family and has to restart his life all over again. This time with a great-uncle he hadn't even known existed! (Most likely due his not knowing Tony was his father and so Peggy was his grandmother until a year - six years? - beforehand.) Worse still, Peter has to move away from his friends and everything he's ever known to the world's most dangerous and crime-ridden city, Gotham. Who is Alfred Pennyworth and how has he ended up as a butler slash pseudo-grandfather to so many young people? Why do those very same young people keep on disappearing and then reappearing hours later from inside Wayne manor? What's up with those vigilantes hanging around Peter so much?

And why does everyone say that Batman has such a problem with mutants (also lesser known as metahumans) like Peter? He can't not be Spider-Man, even in a new and dangerous place like Gotham, so is Batman's prejudice going to be a problem... Or will Peter find himself an unlikely new family in the shape of bat and bird themed heroes as he builds himself a new life in Gotham city?

Lately, I have read a lot of Spider-Man&Batman crossover stories where Peter ends up in the DC universe - even ones where Dick Grayson was Richard Parker (adopted into the Parker family) in the Marvel universe before dying - which is fun but I wondered what would happen if it was somehow the same universe? Let's say the Justice League existed longer but were quieter than the Avengers and then the Avengers came crashing in, loud and proud as can be, and they refused to have anything to do with the Justice League, who they saw as nothing more than vigilantes. That's why the Justice League has never involved themselves in Avengers battles. Only now, my thought process went, the prompts above start pushing the Avengers-Justice League status quo when Spider-Man starts superheroing in Batman's city (particularly because a lot of the Avengers are gone). And the batfam find themselves unwittingly adopting a lost and lonely Spiderling.

P.S. I think Tim/Peter would be cute! They're both smart, compassionate, overly hardworking heroes; I think they're a perfect besties-to-boyfriends couple. Or an aged up! Damian/Peter could be a fun enemies or rivals-to-lovers storyline. If neither of those work, go ahead and do what inspires you instead, just don't couple him with up with Dick or Jason (which I have seen) because minor/adult couples are never cool. A better idea would be to ship Peter with no one at all!

I know I set a lot of this story prompt up for you already but that's just because I had a lot of thoughts on it. Feel free to make it your own!

THE IMAGE MADE BY ANGELS, VALENCIA, SPAIN According to tradition, the image of Our Lady of Pucha, or Nuestra Senora del Puche, was fashioned by the angels, and made of the very stone of the sacred sepulcher, where the most holy body of the Mother of God lay hidden for three days. After the assumption of the great Queen into Heaven, the holy angels took the statue they had created from Gethsemani to Pucha, placing it in a church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. The statue of Our Lady of Pucha remained there until it was buried, beneath a large bell, by the religious who lived at that first monastery at Pucha, when the Moors entered into Spain at the time of the Goths. This statue remained in the earth for well over 500 years, until Divine providence facilitated the happy discovery by the great servant of God, Saint Peter Nolasco, founder and patriarch of the Royal Order of Mercy, in the year 1237. Saint Peter Nolasco witnessed, on four consecutive Saturdays, that seven strange lights, looking like seven stars, were observed at night over the same place. They would seem to drop from Heaven seven times, and disappear into the earth, always in the same place. Saint Peter felt certain that this strange phenomenon had a meaning and purpose; so he commanded men to dig about the spot. They had not gone far into the earth when they came upon a bell of prodigious size, beneath which was a beautiful image of the Virgin Mary. Saint Peter took it up in his arms, recognizing it as a valuable gift from Heaven, and built an altar upon the very spot where it was buried. This altar became very celebrated for the number of miracles performed there. The discovery of the sacred image of Our Lady of Pucha was a powerful encouragement to King James I of Aragon, who was resolved to finish the conquest of Valencia at that time. He credited Our Lady of Pucha, and the prayers of Saint Peter Nolasco for his conquest, when he received, into his hands, the keys to the city of Valencia from the Moors. He acclaimed Our Lady of Pucha the Patroness of Valencia, and of his entire kingdom. The holy image was always considered miraculous, and was universally revered throughout Christendom. Popes and kings, and very many people of the greatest holiness and nobility came on pilgrimage to Our Lady of Pucha. The powerful protection of Our Lady of Puche was confirmed through many long years, for, whenever there was a dangerous storm threatening, the bells in the church bell tower would ring and people would again witness the wonder of the seven stars. The angels could also often be heard singing soft melodies and sweetest chants in the choir of the church that were heard by the religious, filling their hearts with heavenly rejoicing. It is recorded that a boy named Jose Carbonell, the son of Agustin Carbonell, was pushed by another boy and fell with his arm landing in the path of a heavy cart. The boy’s arm was crushed so severely, that it was soon considered necessary for a surgeon to cut-off the arm to save the child’s life. The following morning the boy’s father went to work at his brother’s farm, from which he could see the church of Our Lady of Pucha. He prayed, as he worked, with humble supplication and many tears. At the end of the day the father returned home to find the surgeon had just arrived and was undoing the bandages over the boy’s injured arm. Once it was unwrapped, the surgeon cried out, “Gentlemen, what is this? This arm is good and healthy!”  In recognition of the favor, the boy eventually took the habit of the Religious of Our Lady of Mercy. The heavenly image of Our Lady of Pucha was eventually taken from Pucha to Valencia, at the request of the Catholic monarch Philip II. The people followed the venerable Patriarch Don Juan de Ribera, Archbishop of Valencia, on foot in solemn procession on Sunday, 17 July, 1588. All was done with the same solemnity with which the procession of the Blessed Sacrament occurred in this famous city. The praises of the angels could be heard for sixteen nights in the holy church of Valencia, and the wonder of the seven stars was frequently seen, filling with inexpressible joy the witnesses, both inside and outside of Valencia. It is known that the stars have appeared many times on the bell tower of the church of Our Lady of Pucha since then, and, not only in ancient times, but they were especially noted between the years 1723 to 1758.

Ok what is it with Sappho committing suicide in Sappho to Phaon and it’s persistence from ancient authors (Ovid) to Victorian authors (Mary Robinson)? Is the need to commit suicide an over exaggeration of Sappho’s characters? Or is she not aloud to have a happy ending due to her not following expected social norms for a woman? Is it because of the supposed matronly love by a woman to a younger man? Or is it because she is not attracted to men, but to females and youths?

In order to make her make a character a heterosexual lesbian is there a need to go through a death in order to be seen, or ‘reborn’ as heteronormative?

“ Tale has been embroidered, dramatized, and novelized over the centuries by writers from Ovid—who in one poem has Sappho abjectly renouncing her gay past—to Erica Jong, in her 2003 novel “Sappho’s Leap.” As fanciful as it is, it’s easy to see how this melodrama of heterosexual passion could have been inspired by her verse, which so often describes the anguish of unrequited love. CHARL MARIE GELBERO

- Carlos Bulosan

Born in the Philippines in a small farming village called Mangusmana, Carlos Bulosan came from a family who struggled to make ends meet. Born on November 24, 1913 and died on September 11, 1956. He determined to help his family and improve his education, Bulosan emigrated to the United States at the age of 17. He started working low-paying jobs while facing racism and illness until he finally learned how to write and put a voice to the struggles of the Filipino people in the United States.

His best-known work is a semi-autobiographical book called America Is in the Heart. He also wrote The Freedom from Want. Bulosan was both a novelist and a poet, and he died in Washington in 1956. You might also enjoy our list of the best Korean authors.

ROD NAPOLEON EVANGELISTA

Born in May 29, 1949 in Manila, Jessica Hagedorn is a modern playwright, poet and writer. She came to the United States in 1963 to get her education at the American Conservatory Theater training program. She lives in New York City and has won an American Book Award and the Lucille Lotel Foundation fellowship.

Hagedorn has many famous works to her name, but Mango Tango, her first play, is one of her most famous. She also wrote Burning Heart: A Portrait of the Philippines and the fiction novel Dream Jungle.

NELLA MAY CARBONELL

Jose Rizal came from a wealthy Filipino family He was well-educated, and spent much of his time as a young adult traveling Europe to discuss politics. He is born on June 19, 1861 and died on December 30, 1896. He also studied medicine at the University of Heidelberg and pushed for Filipino reforms under the Spanish authorities. His execution at the age of 36 put a fast end to his writing career.

Rizal wrote a number of poems as a teenager. He also wrote an Operetta called On the Banks of the Pasig. His first novel, Noli Me Tangere, offended the religious leaders of his area and caused him to be deemed a troublemaker. This likely led to his later arrest for political and religious problems.

is a Filipino author who writes middle-grade and young-adult fiction. Though he was born in the Philippines, he was raised in the United States and majored in English literature at the University of Colorado with a graduate degree from Harvard. In addition to writing, he teaches English in San Francisco.

Ribay’s first works were poetry, but his book Patron Saints of Nothing is an award-winning work of adult fiction. He also wrote An Infinite Number of Parallel Universes and After the Shot Drops.

was born in Manila and moved to the United States as a child. She was born in year 1971. She studied literature and writing in California before launching her award-winning career. She now serves as an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco.

Reyes’s published works include full-length poetry collections and chapbooks. Gravities of Center, Easter Sunday and Poeta en San Francisco all won awards, including the James Laughlin Award of the Academy of American Poets. Letters to a Young Brown Girl is another popular collection.

VINSON VALLEJOS

-Elaine Castillo

is an American writer who is of Filipino descent. She studied at the University of California Berkeley and the University of London. She is passionate about equality for the people of the Philippines, and that comes out in her work. She was born in year 1984.

In 2018 Castillo published her first novel America is Not the Heart. Though this is the only publication she has so far, many reviewers consider her an up-and-coming name in literature. NPR named it one of the best books of the year.

-Francisco Sionil Jose

was a Filipino writer who is one of the most widely read in the English language. He writes about the social struggles of his culture, and his books and short stories have a huge following. He was born in Pangasinan and attended the University of Santo Tomas before starting his journalism and writing career. He was born on December 3, 1924.

Jose has many novels in his name, including The Pretenders and The Rosales Saga. He also wrote Dusk: A Novel. He won the National Artist of the Philippines award for his literary works. He died at the age of 97 in January 6, 2022.

• Tony Stark is born to Howard Stark and Maria Carbonell on May 29, 1970. Seven pounds, four ounces, a little bundle of joy in his mother’s arms. Howard hasn’t yet moved onto that awful part of his life where he stops caring about his only son, and for a few years, they’re a happy little family of three.

• May Stark comes into their lives seven years later. Little Tony steps into the room, gripping his father’s hand and hiding behind his leg as his mother beckons him closer to take his little sister in his arms.

• He looks down at her- at the wispy brown hair that matches his, the dark eyes that match his, the toothless little mouth that can’t seem to stop crying.

• Tony loves her right away. With all of his heart, all of himself, he loves her.

• When Howard starts throwing glass on May’s third birthday, drunk half out of his mind, ten-year-old Tony is the one who scoops her up and dashes out of the room, taking her into the kitchen so they can drink chocolate milk and wait for the fight to blow over.

• “Ton-ey, why’s he doin’ that?”

• “Dunno, May-day. Cupcake?”

• Neither Maria or Howard need to hear about Tony’s older roommate, a sixteen-year-old named James Rhodes, who Tony describes as ‘really nice and really big. Just, really big. He has nice eyes” and calls Rhodey.

• May is old enough to know what would happen if Howard knew how Tony felt about this boy. She vows to protect his secret with everything she has and stands up for her brother when he isn’t there to stand up for himself.

• When Tony brings Rhodey home for Christmas at seventeen and Howard orders them to leave, face red, whiskey glass clenched tight between pale fingers, ten-year-old May leaves with them.

• They find a motel on the outskirts of town and spend the night. May sleeps in an adjoining room and giggles every time she hears a loud kiss before drifting off.

• “Your little sister, she’s- she’s somethin’, huh?” Rhodey whispers later, when he knows she’s asleep.

• Tony nods and laughs, fiddling with the bracelet his boyfriend had given him when they’d been away. “Yeah, May-day? She’s great, Rhodey. Really- really great.”

• The Stark siblings never go back home.

• They move in together with Rhodey in a little apartment in Queens, New York. Tony wins guardianship over his sister. Their home feels much safer than the Stark mansion ever had, with gauzy curtains and mismatched dishes and a couch with fraying cushions.

• This is the home that May grows up in.

• She and Tony and Rhodey spend years together, working and playing and making their way through life. They play Mario Kart when it comes out and May destroys her brother and his boyfriend (husband in every way but legal, really) in every single game. The siblings teach Rhodey how to swear in Italian and laugh when he botches the pronunciation.

• When nineteen-year-old May brings her boyfriend, Benjamin, and his brother, Richard, and his wife, Mary, home for a big Thanksgiving, they’re welcomed into the family with open arms.

• May and Ben get married at twenty-two and twenty-three respectively, despite May’s wishes to wait until Tony and Rhodey had the chance. Richard and Mary have a son a year later- little Peter Benjamin Parker- and the family grows. Tony and Rhodey host the holidays every year for four years, and for those four years, they’re happy.

• Mary and Richard pass away in a car crash. It’s sudden and brutal and everyone in the car is pronounced dead on site.

• May and Ben stay with Tony and Rhodey. They mourn together.

• Peter Benjamin comes to live with them, too.

• The two-bedroom apartment hosts five mourning people. Peter cries every night, wakes everyone up, and every night, they gather in the living room and mourn and play Mario Kart and swear at each other in Italian (Peter is just learning, and he doesn’t know any curse words, so it’s allowed).

• Over the years, the Parker-Stark-Rhodes family grows from two, to three, to six, to seven, to five again.

• They’re mourning.

• But, in their own way, they’re happy.

Elena of Avalor To End With Primetime Coronation Special

Disney Junior has set a primetime finale coronation special for Elena of Avalor that will air Sunday, Aug. 23, on Disney Junior and DisneyNOW. New episodes leading up to the finale will debut every Sunday at 5 p.m.

In the prime-time special, Elena of Avalor: Coronation Day, as plans for Elena's coronation are underway, Esteban's team of villains unleash legendary spirit misfits, the Four Shades of Awesome. In order to save her kingdom, her family and her friends, Elena must journey to the Spirit World and back, and face the ultimate test of her courage and character, before becoming queen.

Jenny Slate, Mark Hamill, Fred Armisen and Andy Garcia guest star as the Four Shades of Awesome and Patrick Warburton voices Grand Macaw, ruler of the dark side of the Spirit World.

tony stark transfers to ben’s high school senior year. tony stark. richie’s insanely excited about it, and ben doesn’t know how to tell his brother to leave him alone, because clearly he doesn’t want anyone to talk to him. ben also doesn’t know why stark’s apparently flunking every class he’s in, when he has an iq of 280, according to a science journal richie’s subscribed to. ben doesn’t care about any of that when he’s told he has to tutor stark, who shows up to their first session with red-rimmed eyes and wearing a sweater that doesn’t seem like it fits him very well, and asks ben for a hug in a voice that’s quieter than the sound the same sweater makes when it brushes ben’s arm, because clearly ben says yes. 

stark—tony—doesn’t need tutoring. apparently, what he does need, is daily hugs. 

ben’s willing to provide those, even if they make something warm appear in his chest, even if tony says they’re just friends. 

even when tony finally kisses him, and the hugs go hand-in-hand with more of those kisses that just make the warmth in his chest grow. 

rivals to lovers au: who takes their rivalry seriously, and who is half in it just to push the other’s buttons?

ben doesn’t know why tony stark sits behind him during their psych lecture every single day and whispers things to him every single day like they’re friends when they clearly aren’t and he doesn’t even know why stark is taking psych when he’s an engineering major but he really doesn’t like the way the t.a. looks at stark and oh fuck maybe ben isn’t mad at stark at all and maybe he really likes the way stark always talks to him during the lecture because his comments about the professor’s mustache are always way more entertaining than anything he’s learned all year and maybe the way stark’s eyes sparkle when he grins make him look really, really pretty- 

enemies to lovers au: which one switches sides?

listen i have one kink and it’s mob boss ben parker so rival mob bosses antonio carbonell and benjamin parker realizing that they’d be so much more powerful if they just joined forces together and working it out like a business transaction. if there’s occasional fucking on the side, that’s fine, it’s all fine, it’s just a way to destress. it doesn’t matter as long as tony doesn’t catch feelings. 

(he catches feelings. and how can he not, with ben giving him that look and calling him angel in that tone of voice that should be illegal and-)

soulmate au: who is eager to meet their soulmate? who absolutely does not want to meet their soulmate?

tony knows that once he meets his soulmate—benjamin, his arm tells him—his life is supposed to get better. that’s what jarvis said happened when he found ana. 

but howard and maria are soulmates too, and he hears his mamma crying every night in the separate bedroom that she tries to hide from tony. 

so, tony’s not too hopeful that life will get better for him. the stark’s don’t seem to do all that well with the whole soulmate thing.  

single parent au: which one is the single parent? (alt. if they’re both single parents: which one is open to starting a new relationship from the start? which one is never planning on finding love again… until they meet the other and are instantly smitten?)

tony finds out about harley when the kid’s delivered by a social worker declaring tony the next of kin after his mother’s death and informing him that they did a dna test before swiftly removing herself from the premises. so. tony’s got a one-year-old to take care of and no idea what he’s doing. 

luckily, his very hot neighbor seems to have a way with babies. 

(ben really, really doesn’t, he’s just been attending every other maternity class with mary because she’s a terrifying pregnant woman and richie is a weak man who needs support from his brother, apparently.) 

alternatively:

ben doesn’t know how to raise a kid. richard and mary are gone, and peter isn’t speaking anymore, not to anyone, and ben doesn’t know what he’s doing. he knows peter cries himself to sleep every night, knows because peter doesn’t sleep unless he’s in bed with ben, and he knows he’s failing. failing richie, mary, peter. 

and then peter starts talking again. he goes back to school, and he starts talking again. it’s only a few words a day, but more and more the longer he’s in school, and ben doesn’t know what’s happening, because he isn’t doing anything. 

then he meets mr. tony, peter’s kindergarten teacher, during parent week, and everything clicks. 

ben doesn’t know how to thank him enough. tony tells him he can thank him by focusing on himself, and healing, and grieving, and if he needs help, then to give him a call. 

(ben calls him a month later, on the three-month anniversary of the crash, and tony...stays. all night. gets peter to bed. holds ben’s hand. doesn’t let go.)

doctor au: which one is the longsuffering doctor? which one is the patient?

listen. ben is not a doctor. he doesn’t even work at the hospital. he was just bringing may her lunch, because she left it at the apartment like she always does, but for some reason, there’s a really cute guy with. what looks like a burn. on his arm. waving him over, and calling him “doc” and winking at him, and really, how hard is it to pretend to be a doctor? 

(tony figures him out within seconds. but shit, this fake doctor is really, really handsome, and he blushes when tony tells him that, so really, how important is the burn on tony’s arm?)

bodyguard au: who is the bodyguard? who are they protecting? which one is secretly pining for the other?

ben didn’t mean to become a bodyguard, he went to school for art for god’s sake, but his plan to work at the firehouse didn’t work out and he still wanted to help people so...here he is. in the manor of the wealthiest people in manhattan, shaking howard stark’s hand, because apparently he’s now the bodyguard of tony stark.

(tony didn’t think dear old dad was serious when he threatened a bodyguard, but now there’s a very attractive man following him around constantly. tony thinks it’ll work out.)

pirate au: who is the pirate? who is the member of the royal family who did not sign up for this? 

captain stark has been the kingdom’s “greatest” pirate for five years. prince ben doesn’t know what’s so great about him, until he gets kidnapped from a royal banquet due to his own stupidity. (captain stark has really pretty eyes and he just wanted to know where he was going, so is it really his fault?) 

childhood best friends au: which one was super obviously in love with the other the whole time? who was oblivious until they were older?

ben’s family has been working for the royal family since before he was born, so it’s only natural that he grows up with prince tony, shares a bedroom with prince tony when one of them has a nightmare, falls in love with prince tony...gets ripped away from prince tony to serve in the royal military. 

apparently, none of that is natural, according to his fellow soldiers. 

ben doesn’t care, he just wants tony back in his arms.

I’m writing a book!

Squad Goals follows Damien Corbin, a teenage boy who’s been able to see ghosts since he was a toddler, as he meets Elizabeth Carbonell—or “Liz” for short—at the thrift store where he works part-time. She’s looking for her wife, who she hasn’t seen since they were both axe-murdered in their white-picket slice of suburbian cul-de-sac, an unsolved murder that took place fifteen years ago.

Liz is convinced Mary knows who killed them, and, partly just to stop her from possessing the poor customers who buy her haunted combat boots, Damien finds himself meeting ghost after ghost, a group of friends in life who really just want to party after death—and maybe makes a friend in the land of the living, too.

With murder as the B-plot to getting the squad back together, Damien can’t wait for this particular adventure to end—at least until he meets the cute boy who’s basically been adopted by a ghost.

I’m about halfway done with the first draft for this project, and I’m now in the research stage of self-publishing: good cover art, editing and marketing really adds up.
