Hi! I’m not really feeling well since I’m bedridden sick, and I was hoping if you can make a MoonKnight one shot, where Marc & Steven take care of a teen! Reader whose like Eleven from Stranger Things, and she’s having a nightmare about her past and the boys comfort her.
I just think it would be really wholesome and cute
We’ll never let you go back there again
Tumblr media
Hiya! I hope you feel better soon ☹️❤️‍🩹
Thank you so much for this idea it was so sweet and I almost cried writing it haha. I’m sorry if the intro is a bit long tho lol I tried to put a bit of character backstory for the reader and it ended up being a little longer than I intended it to be. I do hope that’s ok (I put a marking of where the actual fic starts). It’s angsty with comfort in the end. I hope this can help you feel better and that you take good care of yourself. ❤️ (also I want to mention that I tried making the DID as accurate to how it’s shown in the show as possible. I don’t want any inaccuracies so if I did anything wrong or messed anything up please let me know so I can do better).
You only started out as some kid from the streets. You had lost your parents at such a young age. Your mother was exposed to unnatural substances that made her very ill and she died giving birth to you, while your father died not long after due to heartbreak. The doctors were scared that you would end up with physical abnormalities due to the unnatural substances, but it was, in many ways, so much worse. They noticed a lot of weird things about you when you were dropped off at an orphanage. It wasn’t until you started making things float that they realized something was seriously wrong.
You then got sent to a lab where you were tested. They were horrible tests. Sending electrical currents to the pain receptor area of your brain just to see how it would trigger your abilities, forcing you stay awake for days in order to be able to test your brain activity and see what happens to it if you didn’t sleep. But no matter how painful the tests were, no matter how much you would scream and cry, or even beg them to stop or even let you rest, they wouldn’t allow it.
You finally ran away when you were old enough to figure out how. You were only about 15 years old and struggling to keep yourself alive. But a year later a man found you. He had said his name was Steven and seemed very worried. You recoiled from him when he tried to touch your hand. You almost ran away. But you eventually you learned to be able to trust him and went with him to his home. You soon after met Marc, who was just as nice. They had given you what you thought you could never have. You were given a new name, your current one, that had kept you well disguised and hidden from the labs system. You also soon got used to the system between Marc and Steven. They gave you so much unconditional love.
———
One night you found yourself back there again. You were being dragged by a man in a lab coat, right down the hall you had been down so, so many times before. You knew exactly where you were headed. You tried to yank your arm out of the man’s grip but it was like trying to break out of stone. When you turn your head, you notice a familiar black silhouetted figure far behind you. “STEVEN! STEVEN! MARC! HELP ME!” You begin to scream at it, with tears streaming down your face. How could they have let you gone back there? You thought you could trust them. You kept shouting their name, hoping any of them would be able to hear you.
Then suddenly you found yourself jerking awake, realizing you had been screaming their names out loud in your sleep. You still felt a hand around your wrist and desperately pulled at it like your life depended on it. You were hyperventilating and trying to get away from whoever had you.
“Hey, hey! Love, don’t worry it’s me! It’s just me!” You recognized the British accent in the darkness and felt yourself calming down slightly. Your breathing slowed as well. You whole body was shaking uncontrollably. You realized you were drenched in sweat and that your face was wet from crying. Steven then turned on the lamp on the bedside table and you were finally able to see him better.
“Are you alright?” Steven asked gently. Upon hearing those words you felt fresh hot tears beginning to fill your eyes and roll down your cheeks. You let out a sob as your shaking body fall into Stevens lap. He just strokes at your head comfortingly and makes soft shushing sounds as he lets you cry for as long as you wanted.
“Love, what happened?” Steven asked, his voice full of worry, “You were shouting to Marc and I for help so we ran here as fast as we could.”
You just keep crying as you clench at his pajama shirt. Then Marc Spector fronted, “That’s alright kid,” he said as he continued Stevens head stroking, “you can tell us when you’re ready.”
When you finally start to feel a little better you grab to hold his non head stroking hand and try to tell him.
“I-I had a h-horrible d-dream…” you say with a weak voice, “I-I d-dreamt that I w-was b-back t-t-there. A-and t-that y-you l-left…” you start to sob again into his shirt.
“Oh.. Y/n… I’m so, so sorry you had to revisit that wretched place again…” Marc said sadly, “Please remember that we love you and we would never even consider making you go back there again.”
“But don’t you worry, Y/n.” Steven said with a soft smile as he fronted again, “we will absolutely NEVER let that dream come true, even if it’s the last thing we do. Never ever will we let that happen, and that’s a promise!”
With those words you calmed down a bit more and stopped crying. “W-will you s-stay with me?” You ask as you wipe the tears away. “Of course. As long as you want us to.” Marc said with a smile. He slowly lay you back on the bed and laid himself down next to you as he cuddled you in his arms. Soon the two (three) of you had fallen asleep. You didn’t wake up again from anymore nightmares that night.

Burden of Truth (Book 1) Prologue
Father Figure! Marc Spector x Teen! Reader
Father Figure! Steven Grant x Teen! Reader
Mother Figure! Layla El-Faouly x Teen! Reader
Prologue: On the Precipice
Summary: In 2018, (Y/N) discovers grief as people turn to dust and the world turns to chaos.
Mouse Note: Welcome to Burden of Truth! Kind of a rough beginning, but, hey, how else do you become an Avatar to a god? Anyways, housekeeping: This is a platonic fic, so anyone who suggests anything inappropriate between an adult and minor will be blocked and deleted. That's pretty much it, but I wanted to make it clear. As for the actual fic, there aren't any warnings other than the violence that Marvel shows. I'm really excited to share this series! Please feel free to comment since I'm always up to answering questions and replying to comments. Plus it makes me keep writing. Without further ado, though, please enjoy!
2018…
            (Y/N) gasped for breath, but their lungs refused to bring in the air they needed. Every limb ached, and their heart beat against their chest. It stuttered, refusing to work correctly. The edges of (Y/N)’s visions blurred to black.
            Everything had gone wrong. They had thought this summer would be a beautiful one, traveling with their parents. Egypt was lovely, and (Y/N) liked to listen to their parents—anthropology and history professors—tell them about the rich history and culture of the country.
            Plus, they were far away from New York where strange aliens had recently attacked and fought Iron Man and a strange wizard. They were safe with their family and free to enjoy themself.
            And then people turned to dust.
            Screams echoed as loved ones disappeared before people’s very eyes. Cars crashed without drivers. Buses overturned and threw out people and sand. Cries went out as crashes sent metal through limbs—through torsos.
            Through (Y/N)’s torso.
            (Y/N) couldn’t even move to cover their chest as it bled. They didn’t try to. They knew they were dying. They didn’t want to (gods, please, no, I don’t want this I don’t want this) but they were.
            And they couldn’t even reach out to hold their mom and dad’s hands. (Y/N) felt like a child again, but unlike nightmares, they couldn’t run to their parents’ arms to feel safe. Even if they could, the chill of death had already taken their parents’ warmth and comfort.
            (Y/N) wished they’d all turned to dust. This was violent, painful, agonizing. Their parents had laid beside them in distress, calling out for help and rescue, dying. No one had come.
            And now (Y/N) was alone—the world hadn’t even been kind enough to let them die before their parents.
            This was just so wrong. Unfair. Unjust.
            “It is unjust.” A calm voice spoke.
            (Y/N) didn’t move. They couldn’t, and they were already dying. Their situation couldn’t get worse.
            “I can feel your pain.”
            This time, a woman, taller than humanely possible, appeared in their line of sight. She knelt among the dust and bodies of the bus and gazed at (Y/N).
            She was Egyptian, dressed in a red gown, and wore an intricate necklace of gold and turquoise. Multicolored Sleeves swept out with her arms like wings. Silky black hair fell around her shoulders, and her eyes were lined in kohl. An ostrich feather stood in a circlet and swayed in the wind.
            (Y/N)’s eyes landed on the feather, and something in their chest pulled towards it.
            The woman tilted her head and watched them in assessment. “You sense the truth.”
            “Who…” (Y/N)’s hoarse voice died.
            “I am the goddess Ma’at.” The wind whipped around her as she spoke. “I am in search of a guardian. To uphold justice in the face of wrongdoing. To protect harmony from discord. To defend truth from falsehood.”
            (Y/N) coughed, and Ma’at tilted her head.
            “I can see the truth in your heart. You want justice for everyone who suffers like you,” said Ma’at. She leaned in. “Pledge yourself to me, pledge yourself to the truth, and I will give you the life to do so.”
            (Y/N) looked into Ma’at’s eyes and summoned all their strength left.
            “Yes.”
l
2023…
            (Y/N) crouched on the roof and dropped onto the balcony below them. The house around them was quiet. The security guards were clueless to their approach, which was just fine. They didn’t want any attention.
            (Y/N) opened the sliding door of the balcony and slipped into the display room. They glanced around themself in distaste. None of the artifacts in glass cases belonged to the owner of this house. He’d “acquired” them in the aftermath of the Blip left countries in disarray, just so like many others.
            After the return of the Blipped, the problem of stolen artifacts had only gotten worse since the chaos had begun again, letting more people profit off the displaced people and their possessions.
            (Y/N) had spent years repatriating the stolen relics from the aftermath of the Blip. This man, Mr. Medrano, was among the worst offenders. He lied about his findings as an “archaeologist” and stole what he needed for glory. And along the way, he removed any competition. A thief, a liar, and a killer. Medrano was a man who brought injustice of all kinds to the world.
            And that was precisely what (Y/N) stood against—what Ma’at stood against.
            (Y/N) stopped in front of a case of Egyptian artifacts. Their eyes scanned the contents for the relic they were supposed to bring back to Egypt (send back, really, by way of another person. (Y/N) was still just a teenager, so they couldn’t send it back themself without raising suspicions. Luckily, putting something in a hidden box and not showing their face did the trick).
            (Y/N) frowned. The hieroglyphic tablet of Tethering wasn’t on the wall. It seemed they were later than expected, and Medrano had begun to work on translation.
            Which means it’ll be in his office.
            (Y/N) went to the door of the display room and peeked outside. No light, no movement. They moved into the hall and crept down towards the room at the other side of the house. Making sure their gloves were on—no sense leaving fingerprints—(Y/N) reached out and felt the door handle.
            The door was unlocked.
            Gently, (Y/N) opened it.
            Shick!
            (Y/N)’s eyes widened, and they took a step back. A man in a white, bandage-like suit stood above Medrano. He pulled two crescent-shaped blades from his chest, and Medrano’s body slumped to the ground. The man paused and looked towards the door, the moon sighting the crescent-illusion in his hood and the symbol on the forehead and chest.
            “There wasn’t supposed to be anyone here,” said the man, but (Y/N) felt in their heart that he wasn’t speaking to them.
            “Does it matter? Your job is to punish the wrongdoers in this mansion.”
            (Y/N) blinked as they heard a voice echo from behind them. It was a god’s voice. Not Ma’at, no, but most definitely a deity.
            “I won’t hurt a kid, Khonshu,” snapped the avatar, and his hood folded back.
            (Y/N) turned around and found themself staring up (really up) at a half-man, half-bird skeleton in white wrappings. This was Khonshu.
            “I’m not a wrongdoer,” said (Y/N) to Khonshu, holding up their hands. “I’m, uh, an Avatar.”
            At that, Khonshu and man stopped.
            “You can see him?” said the man, frowning warily.
            “I’m the Avatar of Ma’at,” said (Y/N). They shifted. They weren’t used to saying that. “She’s the goddess of truth.” They could see the “truth” of the world more than others, and that included the gods that walked among them.
            “That ostrich is interfering with my work,” said Khonshu, irritated.
            “You are the one who is not supposed to interfere with human business,” said Ma’at’s calm voice, and (Y/N) glanced at the office’s large window to find her sitting on the sill.
            Khonshu’s avatar looked at the window but saw nothing. “Is another god here?”
            (Y/N) nodded sharply. This was a little too much. They were used to working by themself.
            “You are doing the exact same thing,” said Khonshu.
            “I am returning artifacts to our people,” said Ma’at. “I am not interfering in human life more than that.” She glanced at Medrano’s body. “Unlike some.”
            Khonshu tsked. “I am delivering justice.”
            “A type, yes,” said Ma’at.
            “Ma’at,” said (Y/N) quietly. “I’m going to take the tablet..”
            “Go ahead, (Y/N),” said Ma’at. “Khonshu will not harm you. You have done no wrong.”
            “They interfered with my work,” said Khonshu.
            “Irritating is not wrongdoing,” said Ma’at.
            (Y/N) decided to leave before the gods continued to argue. It made them uncomfortable. Then again, a lot of interaction did. (Y/N) hadn’t really gotten to slow down and make friends after 2018, so they’d grown used to their own company (or Ma’at’s). Everything else was business, and anything more was out of their realm of understanding.
            (Y/N) opened their bag and slipped the wrapped tablet carefully from the table inside. They looked decidedly away from Medrano’s body, glanced at Khonshu’s avatar, and left the room.
            If that’s what Avatars and gods outside of themself and Ma’at were like, (Y/N) didn’t want to meet them.
l
2025…
            “(Y/N).”
            The now-seventeen-year-old raised their eyes from the book they were reading. “Yes, Ma’at?”
            “I have an important job for you.”
            (Y/N) frowned. Ma’at never described anything as “important.” Necessary? Yes. Important? No. Everything was equally pertinent to upholding justice and order to Ma’at.
            “I need you to retrieve a scarab.”
            “Who stole it?” asked (Y/N).
            “You are.”
            (Y/N) looked at Ma’at in surprise. “What?” Ma’at disliked any injustice or unlawful actions.
            “You are stealing the scarab of Ammit,” said Ma’at.
            Ammit.
            Ammit ruled the scales in the Judgement of the Dead. Ma’at was the Feather of Truth against which human hearts were weighed. One had abandoned true justice; one continued to defend it.
            And (Y/N) was stuck in the middle with the burden to protect the truth of it all.

recruitment gone… right?
platonic!steven grant/marc spector x teenage!reader
summary: who in their right mind sends a teenager to recruit a dangerous vigilante all on their own? oh sam and fucking bucky.
warnings: teenage avenger reader, inaccuracies, clueless steven being an overall mess and a huge cap fan, violence, swearing, gen z shit? perhaps idk, 2k word count
Tumblr media
request: ‘can you do a father figure Marc Spector/Steven Grant x A teenage avenger who was sent to recruit him? I imagine the reader being a typical Gen Z kid with a sarcastic sense of humor, but meaning well.’
notes: loosely based off this request i got MONTHS ago. i’m so sorry it’s taken forever this has literally been in my drafts for a year. not a whole lot of father figure-ing going on but i think it’s a funny little neutral recruitment blurb/one-shot. enjoy. also not sure if this is gen-z enough but i was not going to make this obnoxiously “relatable”
Tumblr media
“It shouldn’t be too hard.”
“Sam, I want you to think about what you just said. Then think about who you’re talking to. And then… consider the possibility that your plan might actually work if you send Barnes.”
A distant voice shouted through the speaker of your phone. “No can do, kid. Recruitment is below my paygrade now!”
You rolled your eyes, shuffling down a busy sidewalk in the midst of London. “Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot I’m talking to the big champs now.”
You heard Sam chuckle in amusement, and you could imagine him shaking his head at your words. “You know what you gotta do. The sooner you get it done, the sooner you can get back to base. Kick some ass with the big champs.”
“Yeah, yeah,” it was time to get serious. “Got it, Wilson. I’ll check in later.”
Instead, it was Bucky who answered. “You’ve got this, squirt!”
Rolling your eyes, you didn’t even give Sam a chance to get a word in before you were ending the call, stuffing your phone into your pocket and narrowing in on the bus stop ahead.
This is stupid, you thought as you waited a safe distance away. You couldn’t risk your target spotting you before you could properly assess them. Who in their right mind sends a teenager—a freaking teenager—to recruit one of England’s most dangerous vigilantes?
You’re not scared—you were far more than capable to defend yourself, even against the famed Moon Knight—but it feels out of your way, something you’ve never been asked to do. But of course, as an Avenger, this was your duty.
You couldn’t help but think of this whole thing as a personal attack. With Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson assuming the mantle of interim leaders of the Avengers (or rather what remains of them), this whole mission seemed like their version of a practical joke.
Those two loved you with all their heart, you didn’t doubt it, but they take the role of “fun uncles” a bit too seriously.
But anyway, this recruitment... This isn’t fun. Not in the slightest.
This is like being a salesperson.
Shudder.
Finally, you catch sight of your target—Steven Grant, an extremely sleepy, stumbling gift-shoppist who had appeared at the bus stop surprisingly early for once.
He seems gentle enough, guard mostly down, clutching his bag with a paranoid grip but that was the only thing tense about him. He’s technically older than you, not ridiculously so, but a bit younger than Sam.
You watch as his lips start forming some words; it’s subtle, nothing anyone would really notice unless they were analyzing him piece by piece like you currently were.
Ah. You realized with a pleased smile. Steven Grant and Marc Spector are working together.
You’re snapped out of your thoughts by the sound of the bus arriving, squeaking loudly as it stopped in the street.
Showtime.
There was a click in your brain, or that’s what it felt like at least, and a quick scanning of your surroundings made it easy to instantly blend in.
Tumblr media
Steven Grant was having a decent morning. He actually woke up in time, ate a decent breakfast, and rushed out of the house with ten minutes to spare.
Even Marc had been pleasant this morning, making unusual small talk as Steven went about his business, getting ready for work.
And everything was well. Up until now—as he stood in the bus, trying to keep himself from falling asleep on the passengers around him, despite the extra shot of espresso he’d slipped into his drink this morning.
Steven.
He jolted awake, pulling his head away from a man’s shoulder with a small ‘sorry!’
But before he could doze off once more, something odd came over him. A strange tingling feeling, as if he was being watched.
It snapped the drowsiness right out of his system, eyeing everyone suspiciously.
You feel it too, don’t you? Something isn’t right.
“What—” He mumbled quietly, searching for the source but coming up emptyhanded.
There was nothing peculiar or odd about his fellow commuters.
So, he continued about his day, feeling that unsettling eye on him at all times but unaware as to its source.
It was only when his shift was over, that he was walking home, that he decided this charade had gone on for far too long.
Despite Marc’s pleas to let him front, Steven stopped in his dead tracks, away from any curious eyes.
“Oi, who’s there?”
Great job, Steven. If that isn’t the most cliché thing to say before the main character gets killed in a horror movie. Marc sighed.
“Shut up,” hissed Steven quietly. “You know I don’t watch horror movies—”
Steven blinked and suddenly you’re there, standing in front of him as if you’d been there the entire time.
“AH!”
The scream echoed down the alley, high-pitched and nearly startling you into a similar yelp.
But you were quite used to your presence spooking others, it’s a part of your abilities that you’d never been able to control.
Chest heaving and cheeks tinted with embarrassment, Steven gave you a suspicious glare.
“Oh, it’s—it’s just a kid,” he tried to brush off his embarrassing reaction.
You scoffed, a bruise to your ego. “Not just a kid.”
“Well, I know what I’m seeing,” Steven argued. “And you look like a child—“
“Firstly,” you’re staring at Mr. Knight’s suit, taken aback by the change in his appearance that you’d apparently triggered by startling him so bad. “I’m seventeen. Second, I thought you had a whole—“
You aimlessly motioned around your head in a sort of halo way, confusing the ever fuck out of Steven who just stood there blankly.
“A whole w-what?” He gaped, desperate to know what you— a complete stranger — had to say about his kickass suit.
“You know, a whole cape thing goin’ on.”
Ha! Colonel Sanders.
Steven wished there was a way to punch Marc.
“Now, you’re just talking about my lesser counterpart,” Steven shrugged, trying to hide the fact that he had just been offended to the core.
“Ouch, hard feelings?”
Steven pulled his lips to the side. “You could say that— wait. How do you know about—?”
“Let’s cut to the chase,” you interrupted. “I was sent here on behalf of an organization that is really interested in having you join our ranks. Normally, they’d send someone else but you’re stuck with me so—“
“What organization? What ranks? You’re hiring?” I guess we’re both interrupting each other now. You fought the urge to roll your eyes. Even if the task was annoying, you wouldn’t be returning to base with a new recruit if you hit him with a bunch of attitude.
Patience was not your strongest virtue. “Not exactly. As soon as you put that blade down, maybe we can talk some more.”
Steven looked down with a jolt, as if he hadn’t realized he’d been white-knuckling the weapon since you appeared.
Slowly, he started to store the blade before Marc cut in hastily. Hello? Are you seriously letting a kid tell you what to do? A kid who appeared out of thin air?
Steven caught Marc’s glare in the reflection of a small puddle, the road damp from London’s regular showers. He looked much more menacing than Steven, even with his half-assed suit.
He hadn’t said it yet, but Steven knew Marc was aching to take over. And it was probably the smartest option- Steven wasn’t the best at confrontation.
“Don’t hurt a minor please,” he pleaded quietly. Marc narrowed his eyes at the notion. But he nodded his head dismissively.
With a sigh, Steven allowed Marc to front.
All the while, you minded your own business as well as you could, staring at the sky suspiciously. You wouldn’t be surprised if Sam had sent Redwing to spy on you. Not because he didn’t trust you of course, but because him and Bucky loved to get a laugh in whenever they could.
“Alright, let’s cut the bullshit. Who sent you? Harrow?”
You nearly gave yourself whiplash from how fast your head snapped forward.
The suit was different, cape billowing behind him, and eyes even whiter than before. They seemed to glow-- no, they were glowing-- and glare into the depths of your soul. You were almost intimidated.
“Who the hell is Harrow? Absolutely not. Since you asked so nicely, I was sent on behalf of Captain America.”
Captain America? He gripped the crescent blade tighter.
He considered your words carefully, staring at you with the utmost suspicion. Lip curling up, head already starting to shake in disapproval, annoyance consuming him altogether—
“That’s bullshit.”
Tumblr media
“That’s- that’s amazing!”
You couldn’t help the smirk on your face. “It is pretty cool,” you shrugged thirty minutes later, chewing through a particularly large bite of your warm bagel. You were sat in the corner of a small, dingy bakery. What it lacked in aesthetics, the bakery definitely made up for in flavor.
“Do you think you could maybe, like I dunno, introduce us?” Steven asked with an excitement that barely kept him still in his seat.
You’re surprised he hasn’t gathered the attention of everyone else in the bakery, but for once, you’re not the one worried about being on the opposite end of a judgmental eye.
Being an Avenger in these post-Blip days isn’t as easy as it was before… stack that on top of being a ‘child’ and it’s the perfect recipe for disaster.
‘They’re too young!’
‘They can barely contain their abilities!’
‘The Avengers already ruined our lives before! Why should we trust a child?!’
Even if you denied it a million times, there was always a small part of you that craved their approval. Their vote of trust…Maybe this mission would help with that, once they learned that it was you who got the infamous bad-guy-turned-good Moon Knight to join the world’s mightiest superheroes…
Well, maybe it wasn’t exactly you who got Steven to willingly agree. But there was absolutely no way in hell you were ever telling Sam that it was his pull that got the deal sealed.
“Sure,” you smiled back at Steven who just about died at your response. The coffee in his mug jostled out and splashed onto the table. “Big Captain America fan?”
“As of late,” Steven grinned. “So, when do we leave? Is—” He gasped suddenly and lowered his voice to a whisper. “Is Captain America coming to pick me up?”
Jesus Christ. Marc groaned. This was a fucking mistake.
Steven ignored him and looked at you expectantly.
You glanced up from your phone where you’d been rapidly typing something up. You did a double-take as you processed his question.
“Absolutely,” you deadpanned. “He’ll send a car for you. Probably meet you at the airport with his private jet.”
Steven’s eyes grew wider with every word. Marc was scowling in the reflection of the window behind you.
“Bollocks...” he breathed, staring down at his lap in disbelief.
You narrowed your eyes at him.
“I don’t even know what to say. I mean, who—who would’ve thought they would send a seventeen-year-old to recruit little ole me—”
You saw something click in his brain. He looked up with glazed over irritation. “...you’re... you’re not being serious.”
“Of course, I’m not being serious, Grant. I got here alone and I’m more than capable of getting us back to base. You can save the fangirling for when we finally touch down alright? He’ll meet us there.”
Steven pursed his lips at you.
Rolling your eyes, you finished your text and locked your phone with a click. “I’m being serious this time.”
Excitement poured into his gaze again. You’re not sure how Marc feels about it, only that after explaining yourself in very, very specific detail, he was open to the discussion. But it must be a mutual decision at this point. You doubt Steven would’ve gotten this far if his counterpart was fighting against it.
“Marc is on board?”
“Absolutely.”
Don’t lie. I’m regretting this more and more each second.
Steven continued. “Should I... should I pack my bags?”
“Yeah, that’d be a good idea,” you agreed nonchalantly.
“... now?”
You tapped your phone and glanced at the time. “If you want to make our flight in less than an hour, I’d say so.”
“Bollocks!” Steven exclaimed, nearly knocking the table over on his mad dash out the door.
You snickered as he slammed into a lady on his way out.

Dress Shopping Expeditions
Warnings: none (I think), let me know if I missed any :)
Pairings: Marc Spector x daughter reader, Steven Grant x reader platonic, Khonshu x reader platonic
Request: Hello! Could you do a fic for the Mk boys? I request another Mk boys x daughter bc I am such a simp after bingeing all your Mk x daughter or teen fics. Okay, so I know formal isn't really common in the Uk but I know some people do Proms, so could you do a fic where the Mk boys takes her dress shopping? And Khonshu is just judging all the dresses. Thought It would be a cute and funny fic
Request by: @mochystark
*not my gif*
Summary: It’s time for prom, so naturally you have to go dress shopping. Your father is less than pleased
A/N: I haven’t really written in a while- so please excuse the shitty writing
Please don’t plagiarize my work, you may reblog if you like but I’m asking that you don’t steal my hard work
Tumblr media
“Come on!” You cheered, literally dragging the man behind you by the arm into the closest shop.
Marc tried- and failed- to dig his heels into the ground. “But I don’t want to,” He whined childishly.
“Well that’s too bad,” You looked over your shoulder at him with a grin, “Because Steven volunteered you to do it.”
The man was in fact still being pulled along behind you, but this time he was muttering obscenities to his alter.
If there was one thing in this world your father hated, it was shopping. But dress shopping, oh that was worse. So much worse.
The store was filled to the brim with gowns of all shapes and sizes. Colors ranging from the brightest oranges, to the darkest greens. You were completely in awe at everything you saw, spinning in a circle as your eyes tried to drink it all in.
Marc came to a stop, crossing his arms as he looked around nervously, “I don’t like this.” He muttered.
“Aww,” You teased, “Does dress shopping make you uncomfortable, dad?”
He let out a huff of air and turned his head to face the other way so you wouldn’t see the way his cheeks tinged the pink of a nearby Barbie-like dress, “Shut up.”
You just laughed, skipping off in a different direction to look at some colorful material, leaving Marc to rock back and forth on his heels where you had left him.
“Marc,” Steven chastised in his ear, “I volunteered you for this so that you could spend some time with Y/n.”
Marc shifted on his feet again, “I don’t know anything about this stuff, Steven!” He complained, not caring about any of the surrounding people who threw weird looks his way for talking to seemingly himself.
“It’s her prom,” The british man’s voice softened, “And you’re her father. She deserves to have you here with her.”
Your father deflated a bit at that before he sighed, “Yeah, yeah, you’re right.”
After only a second's hesitation, he set off into your direction, you in turn looking up and grinning brightly when you saw him approach.
“Dad, good, do you mind holding this?” You barely waited for him to nod before shoving at least five dresses into his hold.
“Yep,” He grunted a bit, “I got it.”
He followed you around like a lost puppy for the next forty five minutes as you tossed into his arms the different dresses you wanted to try on, and he didn’t complain once. In fact, he even seemed to be slightly happy.
Eventually, you trailed into the dressing room and one by one tried on the dresses, him waiting outside and you walking out each time to ask for his opinion.
“No.” Khonshu said the second you opened the door and stepped from your dressing room for the twenty-seventh dress you were trying on.
The God evidently had nothing better to do and decided to drop by to help.
“No?” You quipped back, anger rising in your voice.
“I don’t like it.” He said simply.
“Oh? You don’t like it?” You seethed, eyes narrowing at his quick judgment of your dress.
“Now, now,” Steven said nervously, looking back and forth between you two, “Let’s not fight.”
“No, let’s.” Marc fronted with a grunt and muttered, “Maybe the store will kick us out then.”
“No, I don’t.” Khonshu continued as if the other two hadn’t even spoken.
Marc sighed at the look Steven was giving him in a nearby mirror- one that told him to intervene before things got messy- and he stepped in between both of you.
“Sweetie,” He spoke, gently laying his hands on your shoulders, “You look beautiful.” He gently placed a kiss on your forehead.
You smiled up at him before grinning at Khonshu, “See? I look beautiful in this dress.”
Your father nodded, “And if you want to get this dress- then we’ll get this one.”
You shook your head and turned back into your dressing room, “Nah, I don’t really like it that much anyway.”
Steven burst into a fit of giggles as Marc’s face dropped and even Khonshu let out a small snigger.
Despite that though, the three of them stayed, waiting until you found the perfect dress. Not once complaining, but a couple more small fights did break out between you and the God of the moon.

Glimpse of Past (Marc Spector x teen!reader
summary: Marc emphatize with you when you showed up at his door and shared your past.
warnings: child abuse, death (mentioned) (lmk if I missed anything)
request: "Could I request a moonknight x teen reader (platonic) where reader usually helps them with finding people or finding information, kind of like “guy in chair”. And they often spend late nights helping Steven, Jake and Marc not spending a lot of time at home. Maybe Steven questions it but reader kinda shrugs it off. Then one day reader shows up covered in bruises and all of them tries to find out what happened but reader doesn’t want to tell them but then reveals that it was one of reader’s parents. And Marc becomes really protective because of what happened to him when he was a kid. You can decide the ending if you want but I would love to see some Hurt/Comfort."
a/n: I'm sorry I only did it with Marc, I sorta wrote it to take set right after incidents in season 1 with reader not knowing Steven and Jake yet
Tumblr media
Marc Spector wasn't the one who worked well with people, but he eventually got a hang of it, thanks to you.
The mercenary never intended to have someone working off-screen for him. You were a threat. You came too close to Marc's secret job for his liking, prying on his night activities and even providing proof. Khonshu was telling Marc to get rid of you, but you butted him first by signing yourself to work with him. Marc couldn't risk someone knowing his night profession, and he didn't wanna kill a child. And judging your ability to be able to uncover the whole Moon Knight thing just reveals that you could be more than useful. So work with him, you did.
Yet earning the certain Spector's trust was hard. There were more than a handful of times when you gotta prove to him that you were, indeed, more than useful for him to fully trust you. Which you consider weird because he was the one who saved you from "getting rid of."
The crescent moon turned into full then turned anew. You found yourself rather at home with Marc than at your actual house. Oftentimes, you spend days with him even if he doesn't go on missions. As much as Marc hated to admit, he does enjoy it too. He enjoys hearing your antics in the comms, he enjoys hearing you read a book of pun jokes and coming home to you spreading out on the couch after a long mission.
You left him with a note that says, "I'll be back soon" once and have never been back ever since. His worry starts to grow as high as those skyscraper buildings. It's been weeks and Marc couldn't find any sign of your existence. Nevertheless, he prayed to anyone listening to him to keep you safe.
You are, in fact, not safe
Your hand trails on the newly made black eye on your face. A wince was shown on your reflection in the mirror.
You never intended to go home. You never wanted to go home. You were going to buy something in a store when you accidentally crashed into one of your father's friends. They immediately took you back to him and he was beyond furious. He locked you in your room for days and only opened the door to feed or beat you.
He had thrown out all your electronic devices; he made sure to cut any way of communication with the outside world so you weren't able to reach Marc. You were glad you left your camera in Marc's place, it was a gift from your late brother, the one you used to spy on Marc.
Your father let you out recently because he needs help to do chores. You still get beatings if you don't do exactly what he says. The newest black eye was obtained from dropping a bottle of beer because your hand hurts from his beatings.
Sighing heavily, you looked outside the bathroom when you heard a knock on the door.
The man sitting on the armchair paid no attention to it, locking his eyes on the TV. He, however, bitterly spat, "Get the door, they're my friends."
"Why don't you get it yourself?" You whispered under your breath, thinking he couldn't hear you. He did.
"What the fuck did you just say to me?" Your body flinched when you heard his boots making their way to where you are. "You should be glad I let you out that room." A slap. "You ungrateful bastard of a child." Another slap. "You should be glad I even spared your life!" This one almost sends you to the floor, but his hands pull you by your collar and smash your body to the nearest wall. "You took everything from me. My wife, my son, my good and perfect life with them!"
Your body made contact with the cold hard sink before falling to the floor. Groaning in pain, you felt another thing stomping your abdomen several times. After what felt like forever, your father finally stopped. With your final energy, you look at the front door. Seeing as your father and his friends were occupied by the TV, you dashed out of the bathroom and eventually out of the house. They noticed, of course, but you didn't care, all you cared about was running away as far as you can. You run to the only place you had in mind. The last thing you remember was knocking your hand on the familiar dark wooden door.
Marc scanned your sleeping form on the couch, noting the many differences between your usual self before your disappearance and now. Your clothes looked more like it's hanging on your body. Dark spots are circling your eyes with a slight dark blue color on one of them. Your skin is littered with bruises; purple, blue, even yellow. You look so… fragile. Totally different from the last time he saw you.
The time Marc realized you were not coming back or went "missing", he tried to find you by asking people he knows who know you. He tried looking and digging for information on where you live since you never told him. But he found nothing.
When he opened the door and saw you, he was beyond relieved to know that you were still alive. However, his heart dropped the moment he looked into your eyes. The sight was too familiar to him. He swore he caught a glimpse of himself inside those E/C eyes. And that was all he needed to know about your state before carrying your collapsed body to the couch.
The Khonshu Avatar watched as your eyes fluttered open, squinting a few times to adjust the light. Your head turned to see him despite it throbbing terribly. Tears clouded your blurry vision but you could still see Marc moving towards you. Your eyes widened in realization of someone coming towards you. With a jerk, you stand up and immediately back away from the person.
"Y/N?" Marc questioned.
You looked down as your feet kept dragging you away from the man. "I'm sorry, I won't do it again. I promise! I– it was my fault, I'm sorry, I am. I didn't mean to disobey you, I didn't mean to kill them, I'm sorry, please don't hit me, I didn't mean—"
"Y/N, it's me, it's Marc." Marc tried to cut you but failed as you replayed your muttering again and again and he'd be lying if that didn't shatter his heart. "Bud, it's all fine. You're alright. They can't get you here. You're safe," he made his voice as soft as he could.
His arms gently reach out for your shaking figure. The mercenary is fighting back the tears that started to form in his eyes. Alarms blazed in his head when you tried to hit your head. As if out of instinct, he leaped to engulf you in his arms, preventing you from hurting yourself. He could still hear you mutter through your tears, "stupid me, I shouldn't have– I shouldn't –"
"Shh, stop it, Y/N, please don't hurt yourself. You're alright, I've got you. It's alright. Follow my breathing, okay? In, 1 2 3, hold it, out 1 2 3. Come on, you can do it. Again." You followed Marc's instructions, breathing in and out with him. Marc's hand never stopped circling your back to calm you down and it worked. Once your crying has reduced into small hiccups, you clung onto the back of his shirt as he rocks you back and forth. "There you go, better?"
You moved your head up and down while wiping a single tear. "Yeah," you answered. Looking up at the man, you noticed his eyes were a bit puffy too. Has he been crying? "I'm sorry, Marc."
The dark-haired man patted your head softly. "You didn't do anything wrong."
"They died because of me, my mom and my brother." You paused. "She died giving me a chance to live in this cruel world, and he died saving me to continue living in it. I don't need him to remind me every chance he gets that I killed them because I already live with the guilt every day."
The confession you made sent a jab to his heart. He knows how it feels to be in your shoes. He knows it all too well. When he looked inside your eyes he saw a glimpse of his past, and that was all he needed to know what happened. It was exactly what happened to him, and it pained him to acknowledge it. Marc pulled you into another embrace when your tears started spilling out again. Then somehow when he glanced at the top of your head, he saw the hair that belonged to his younger self, which only caused him to pull you closer.
"It wasn't your fault, kid," he replayed what Steven said to him on their trip down memory lane. "It wasn't your fault that they died. It wasn't anyone's."
Marc's words only trigger more tears to come out of your eyes. You tighten your grip around him, allowing yourself to break down in his arms. It wasn't after a few minutes that you had calmed down. "I don't wanna go back there."
"You don't have to. We'll sort things out later. For now, let's tend those bruises, eh?" Marc helped you get to the couch before he went to grab the med kit. When he was about to get back, you jumped off the couch.
"The scarab!" you shouted, now remembering that Marc had gone for the scarab before you were taken back to your house. The pain going through your body made you wince. "What happened to the scarab? Did you find it?"
The Moon God's avatar ignored your question as he hurried to your place to sit you back down and gave you an ice pack for your black eye. He hesitated to answer you for a moment, afraid of what your reactions might occur. "I did. I saved the world. Kinda."
"What!?" There it is, the reaction. You stood up again, ignoring the pain this time. "You saved the world!? How? What did you do? What happened?"
Marc sighed. "Will you sit back down? You're in pain."
"Please, this is nothing more than knowing you saved the world without me." You scoffed, earning a chuckle from Marc.
"Alright, fine, I'll tell you everything. Now sit back down, kid." You lowered yourself to the couch again, watching Marc start to tend your bruises. "It happened in Cairo."

Are you gonna make a part 2 for Moon Dad meets y/n? I would like to see Marc's first meet up.
Moon dad's part 2.
Tumblr media
Summary: what it's like living with Steven and Marc as your father figure<3
It has been a month since you moved in with Steven. By now you had been introduced to Marc and had gotten an explanation on who Khonshu is. Marc had immediately grown a soft spot for you.
It was nice being around someone who accepted you and could relate to you.
They had treated you like you were their own child and you were forever thankful. Even Khonshu had a soft spot towards you. Although he often gave you bad and dangerous advice so Marc told you to ignore him.
They knew he wouldn't let anything happen to you, so they didn't mind if you spent time with Khonshu as long as you weren't doing anything dangerous.
You finish the chapter of the book Steven had given you before placing in the bookmark and standing up.
You walked into the kitchen where Steven was preparing breakfast and asked; "do you need any help?". He smiled at you before shaking his head no and responding; "I'm almost done, love. How about you go sit at the table?"
You nod and he smiles lovingly at you. You go to the table and sit down in your favorite spot. It was facing the window so you could look out as you eat.
Khonshu appears and you casually look up at him. The first few times it was scary, but by now you enjoyed his presence.
"What are you doing?" He questions you as you stare out the window. You roll your eyes at his nosiness and respond; "I'm just watching people. Dad's almost done making breakfast..."
"Dad?" He asks. You cringe at the realization and try to play it off. "Dad? I said Steven..." Khonshu lets out a sound that almost sounds like a laugh before disappearing again.
Steven walks up with a plate of breakfast prepared for you. You smile as you grab your fork and taste the food.
He laughs as he looks at your exited face. You loved when Steven and Marc spent time with you and it made them feel bad for you.
It broke Marc's heart to see how happy little things meant to you. It made him overthink a lot about your childhood and made him hate your parents even more.
Steven sat in the seat across from you and started eating his own food. When you finished eating Steven said you could go to your room or watch TV but you responded that you'd rather stay there.
When he finished eating he told you that; "I have something planned. I was hoping that the we could go to the book store today. I just finished my book and it looks like your almost done with yours".
Your face becomes happier and you nod. He leaves the table to go get everything he needs and then goes to put his shoes on.
You quickly tie your shoes before standing up and walking to the door. "Hurry up!" You complain as Steven lets out a small laugh. He finishes putting on his shoes and opens the front door.
He holds your hand as the two of you walk around the large town. When you arrive at the library, Steven lets you look around while he picks out a book for himself.
By the end of the day you and Steven are both satisfied and spend the afternoon reading together. Marc fronts and the two of you lay down on the couch and watch television together until you fell asleep.
Marc carries you back to your bed and tucks you in before leaving a kiss on your forehead. He grabs your favorite stuffed animal which had fallen onto the floor and lays it down next to you.
He leaves the room and quietly closes the door before going to help Khonshu as moon knight.
A/N: should I do a part 3 where YN meets Jake? And maybe YN gets adopted? If you all have any other ideas, lmk 🥰🥰🫶

masterlist - marvel masterlist - series masterlist

takes place after the Marvel series Moon Knight, may have spoilers?
pairings : steven grant x (platonic)reader, marc spector x (platonic)reader, khonshu x (platonic)reader
i will be using she/her pronouns
~~~
A/N : this is all over the place btw, also fun fact, i have schizophrenia so that's kind of what motivated me in writing this. i'm going off of what i experience. pls enjoy <3
also if you want to be in the taglist, please ask! its not a problem
TW : mental disorders, child abandonment, language, fighting(?) let me know if i missed anything.
~~~
some would say its freaky,
others would say its like a superpower, like seeing ghosts is cool right?
you would say its a bit of both
you had schizophrenia, a mental disorder you have had for the past couple years, causing you to have hallucinations such as seeing shadows nobody else can, or fire where theres not fire, and that had absolutely nothing to do with ghosts, and you were labeled delusional by many peers.
you didn't take offense to it, because you were delusional. in fact your disorganized thinking has gotten you in trouble.
not because you're stupid, no, but because of others at your school making fun of you for it, you think its ok to beat them up for it.
which only fueled it. it caused others happiness to see you in trouble.
it also causes you to get suspended a lot.
such as now.
you were heading up to your apartment that you stayed in alone, since your parents dumped you in the street when you were young, and going through too many foster homes was a pain so you chose to just get your own place to call a home.
you just worked at an average paying coffee shop near your school, which you had to walk to.
you could either pay rent on time or get a car, so you thought that some cardio each morning and evening wouldn't be too bad.
you got into the elevator and saw another... man.. as well. he was in a bird costume and he was staring- or you thought he was staring at you.
"'scuse me." you move your arm past the extremely tall man to press your floors button. the bird man looked down at you with its creepy mask, and you tried to ignore it until it touched your shoulder and gasped.
you jumped and stepped away from him, thinking he was just a weirdo messing with you.
you could sense the guy staring at you so you turned your head to him. "you need something?" you ask him, to which he shakes his head slowly.
you nod and look away, but turning back when you see that nothing was attaching his head to his body, also now noticing the huge scary stick with a cresent moon on it.
your eyes widen and your breath hitches, as soon as the elevator hit your floor, you get off and speed walk to your apartment. unlocking the door took 4 tries, but that's only because you just saw some sort of demon.
your breath quickens as you finally open the door and slam it shut behind you and lock it.
you lean back against the door and listen for anything, and after a couple minutes of that, you got up and threw your bag on the couch and took of your shoes.
~~~
it had been about an hour since you got home, and you were hungry so you got up off your bed after pausing your favorite show on your phone to go to the kitchen, tossing your phone on your bed.
when you stepped into the kitchen area, you got out y/f/f and y/f/d, only to hear a knock at your door.
you stiffen up and feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. turning you head to the door, you curse yourself for scratching out the peephole since you were paranoid that someone could see you from the other side.
even though you've tried to look through it and didn't see anything.
you slowly get a wooden bat from near the door, holding it so whoever was out there couldn't see it. putting on a brave face, you open the door to see just a normal man.
he had short wavy dark hair, he also had a smile on his face as he waved at you.
"'ello there." he greeted, you loosening your grip on your bat a little as you smile back.
"hey, can i help you?" you ask him. he nods and runs a hand through his hair.
"actually, id just like to introduce myself." he starts with his british accent. "im steven. uhm- steven grant, i live a couple doors down and i realized i know all my neighbors except you." he explains, using hand gestures while he speaks
"well, my names y/n. do you need anything else?" you ask as nicely as you can, starting to feel intimidated by the taller man.
he darts his eyes to your shiny door knob for a split second.
"uh- well, I-"
"ok cool, goodbye." you cut him off starting to shut your door when you see steven shake his head like a dog then stop the door with his hand, glaring at you all of a sudden.
you furrow your brows at this, and tighten your grip on the bat as you try and push the door closed when the man pushed it open, almost making you fall backwards, him immediately slamming it back closed after.
you hurry and swing your bat at the man, but he catches it in his hands before it could hit him. he yanks it from your grip and tosses it aside.
your breathing quickens, and you back away from him, looking around the room for anything to help you when you spot a vase you found at a thrift store.
'oh well, it was only 2 dollars..'
you pick it up and chuck it at the man who was getting closer to you, only for him to block it with his arm, still breaking and cutting his arm.
he looked offended, and looked at the small cut it made, before turning to you who starts running towards your room, hearing him chasing after you.
you of course, a 16 year old girl, is slower than an adult man so he catches up before you get halfway to your room.
he yanks on the back of your shirt and pulls you to him so that he has an arm wrapped around your flailing arms to keep them still and a hand covering your mouth to prevent you from screaming.
"calm down, kid." he orders, his british accent gone and turned into an american one, making you confused.
you try to kick him which results in him tightening his hold on you as a warning.
he takes a breath, you feel him shake his head from behind you. "you done? i just gotta ask you something" he tells you in a cocky tone.
"are you gonna be quiet?" he asks you, and when you nod frantically he takes the hand off your mouth and moves it to hold you better to not risk you running off.
you take a couple shaky breaths. "good." he starts. "now, are you one of them?" this made you confused more than anything.
"o-one of what?" you ask him quietly. you hear him scoff.
"don't play dumb with me, kid." he starts. "you know what? let me just see your arms." which made you even more confused.
before you could say anything, he turns you around and lifts up your sleeves and looks both your arms over before letting go and running a hand through his hair in defeat.
you back up as soon as he turned around to pace about your apartment. you stand there awkwardly, watching this stranger pace around and and start yelling at anything with a reflective surface.
"yes, i know she could see him!" you hear him yelling into a mirror you had hanging on one of your walls, the thing that made your stomach twist was the fact that the reflection wasnt matching the person.
"oh my god..-" you mutter to yourself, going to go sit on your couch, far enough away from 'steven', but close enough to make sure he doesn't do anything.
"no! you cant have control, i need to know why she-"
"marc" the man in the mirror makes eye contact with you and points in your direction.
he whips his head around at you and walks over to you, putting an arm on each side of you, caging you in between him and the couch you wish you could lean back more in.
"how are you doing that?" he asks lowly. you don't answer, which makes him mad.
he slams a hand down, making you jump. "i asked you a question and i expect an answer." he begins. "are you trying to unleash ammit again? huh? maybe a friend of harrow trying to get revenge?" he lists off making you tilt your head in confusion.
"what the fuck are you talking about?" you gain confidence, which makes the man furrowed his brows at you.
"you don't- shut up steven" he looks to the mirror, to which you look as well.
the guy in the mirror sees that you're looking at him, so he turns to you. "you can hear me, can't you? see me too?" he asks rhetorically. you nod slowly and take a deep breath.
the man in the mirror was the man at the door, but the guy who pushed his way in? you had no clue.
"marc, please let me talk to her properly!" he turns back to the guy still hovering over you. "you're scaring her!" he pleads, which makes the guy above you roll his eyes.
he jumps up and shakes his head again, this time looking back at you with a small smile.
"so. i take it you've met marc, eh?" he asks, sitting next to you instead of threatening you, yet you still lean back.
"what?" you are completely clueless.
"listen, i'll explain the best i can, is that alright?" he asks you carefully, and you nod.
"right! so i'm steven" he gestures to himself. "and that's marc" he points to the mirror, to see 'marc' shaking his head. "we are two people that live in the same body, do you get it?" he asks you, and you nod again.
"so it was y/n right?" another nod. "thats a nice name, i'm so sorry about marc by the way." he apologizes for marc.
you just stare at steven in shock, not knowing what to say. "whats ammit?" you eventually speak up, making steven hum in thought. "and all those other things he was talking about" you question.
steven chuckles breathily, and claps his hands together lightly. "well, marc would be better at explaining it than me, plus its getting late and i-"
"let me out steven"
"no"
you look between the two arguing, and smile slightly. "steven i wont hurt her just let me out. just for a minute." marc argues from the mirror.
steven sighs and rubs his hands down his face and looks to you. "is it alright if marc comes out for a minute?" he asks you, to which you hesitantly nod.
and another head shake later, a more stern expression takes over the once friendly face, signalling marc was back.
he smirks at you and helps you up by your hands all of a sudden, making you gasp.
"hey, kid i'm not gonna hurt ya, just let me show you something" he chuckles to himself.
"what are you-" before you can finish your sentence, he turn you around, back pressed against his chest and him holding your shoulders to keep you from moving too much.
you hear him chuckle again, moving you so that you're facing an open space in your home. you become confused again at why marc thought this was funny.
"khonshu" marc says as he tightens his grip on your shoulders.
you were about to just walk away when the bird demon phases through the wall, and starts walking towards you and marc.
your eyes widen and you try to get away from it, but marc prevented that and began walking you closer to the extremely tall bird, you still trying to get marc off you.
"nO-" you start to yell curses at the man holding you, hes just forcing you towards the bird with a smile on his face.
"so the little mortal can see me" a voice comes from the birds direction.
you stare up at the skeletal head which is tilted curiously in your direction, you frozen not knowing what to do.
"careful y/n, he can smell fear" marc whispers in your ear, making you jump and turn your head to him. he had taken his hands off you, just hovering behind you to block you from running.
"marc stop it! y/n! he cant smell fear he's just a dumb pigeon" you hear steven from the mirror.
"i chose the wrong day to get suspended." you mumble to yourself.
the death pigeon takes a small step closer to you, and you cant help but panic so you take you best shot and punch the bony beak as hard as you can.
your hand feels like its on fire as you hold it to your chest. the bird has turned away holding its beak and marc was staring at you in shock from behind you.
"oH MY GOD!" you shout. "i'm so sorry i-i didn't-"
you get cut off by marc laughing behind you, turning around you glare at him.
he sighs and shakes his head. "aw man, you got spunk, kid." he tells you. clutching you hand to your chest you turn back around to the bird, whos looking at you.
"'m sorry" you apologize to him. he grunts and looks to marc.
"can we keep it?" he asks marc, but stevens the one to answer from the mirror.
"shes not an 'it', khonshu."
"can it, worm"
"oh, i get it now" you say, all heads turning to you. "this isn't real" you deadpan. "i'm dreaming again" you try to convince yourself.
"what?" marc asks confused, giving you a look.
"mhmm. what time is it?" you frantically look around.
"its 8:12" steven says from the mirror making your eyes widen. "shit"
you speed walk to your bathroom to retrieve an orange pill bottle before taking two out and swallowing them dry in the middle of your living room.
the three just looking at you in confusion. "whats that for?" steven asks.
"look for yourself." you toss the bottle to marc, a rattling echoes through the room as you shuffle through your kitchen for some new food.
marc wanders into the kitchen area, khonshu looking at all the random stuff you had laying around. "you're schizophrenic?" he asks you, making you turn to him.
"no, they gave me the wrong bottle." you answer sarcastically, marc giving you a look. "yeah. its pretty severe and its probably why i can see your.. weird friend." you gesture to khonshu, whos poking the ceiling with his moon stick.
marc sighs. "if its so bad that you can see an egyptian god then how come your parents dont do anything about it?" he asks kind of rudely.
you look up at him and snatch your pills back from his hand. "i live alone. i dont know where my parents are." you say truthfully, the sympathetic look on marcs face being unseen as you turn back around to put the bottle on the counter.
"listen kid, you cant tell anyone about this alright?" marc gestures to everything around him. you shrug.
"whatever" you mutter, forgetting about the food and moving to pick up the broken pieces of the vase that are scattered across the floor.
you gather the jagged piece of dried clay and throw them away, ignoring the stares from the three beings in the room.
sitting down again on the couch, you put your head in your hands for a second before running them down your face and leaning back, staring at the wall as you feel the couch dip from beside you.
theres a quiet sigh. "would it be innapropriate to invite you over for supper?" thats stevens voice again. you look to him and shrug again. "is this an elaborate sceme to murder me?" you ask him seriously.
you see him internally panic. "oH- nononononono- i just noticed you didnt have much in your cupboards, thats all" he confesses, and you look over to your open cabinets and notice that you do in fact, have barely any food.
you crack your neck and nod to yourself. “only if you elaborate on all of.. this." you gesture to the murder bird and marc in the reflection of the mirror.
steven nods and smiles to you. "of course" he agrees and helps you up, leaving your apartment to go over to the messy one a few doors down.
that night you made a couple weird friends. they got even weirder after steven and marc took turns explaining how exactly they got into their situation.
and khonshu was giving you advice on how to kill your parents if you ever met them. he claimed that they 'were not worthy' and that you needed to break their windpipes.
you just assumed that it was because somebody other than marc and 'the worm' could see him.
but either way, its wasn't a bad day after all
~~~

Accidents Happen
Tumblr media
When it first started, the boys thought you were trying to escape every night.
But, they soon learnt that you were sleep walking.
They did everything they could, from restraining your ankle to holding you all night, it never worked.
One night Marc was sleeping peacefully when he heard a bang and quickly woke up, on full alert.
He jumped up to see you sitting in the kitchen holding your head.
"Y/N!" He shouted as he rushed forward.
You were holding your head and he could see blood.
He slowly took your hand away to see you'd split your head open.
"I'm sorry." You cried out as he assessed the wound.
"It's okay, baby. Did you knock your head on the counter?" He asked as you nodded.
He helped you to stand up and got you over to the couch.
He quickly grabbed your teddy and gave it to you.
"Here, love. I'm just going to get the first aid kit." He said as you sobbed and nodded, clutching onto your teddy.
Marc returned and sat in front of you.
"Sweetheart, it needs stitches. I know it's going to hurt but I need you to be strong for me." He said as you sniffled but nodded.
You shut your eyes and gripped onto your teddy as Marc got to work.
You did your best to not move but it was hurting so much.
Everytime the needle went into your skin you wanted to scream.
"You're doing so well for me, darling girl. I'm almost done, after this we can have some hot cocoa and watch a movie and cuddle." Marc reassured you while you tried your best to not focus on the pain.
Finally Marc had finished and he placed a bandage over the wound.
"There you go, baby. You were such a good girl." Marc praised as you lunged forward and hugged him.
"I'm sorry." You whispered as he wrapped your up in a tight hug.
"Oh, love. You don't need to be sorry. Accidents happen, now let's settle down and watch a movie, okay?" He said, kissing your forehead as you nodded.
"Yes, please."

Help from your friends.
Moonknight x Teen reader PLATONIC.
Genre : Oneshot.
Pairing : Steven Grant x teen reader, Marc Spector x teen reader, Jake Lockley x teen reader.
Summary : Your friends help you build a shelf.
Tumblr media
Sitting on the ground, legs crossed, you cast an annoyed glance at the plans spread out in front of you. No matter how hard you read and reread them, examine the many diagrams in detail and even look on the internet, you still hadn't managed to assemble this damn shelf, even after a good hour of assembling and disassembling the many parts.
You groaned for what felt like the hundredth time today and threw up your arms in exasperation. Handiwork was obviously not for you.
You liked to read more than anything and you had decided to buy one of those pretty book shelves from IKEA to store your many books. You were tired of leaving them lying around in piles bigger than you. At night, you'd trip over them sometimes and then have to pick them up and pile them up again as you rubbed your sore toes.
You lay on your back, crushing your tools and some building plans, and rubbed your eyes. You almost didn't hear the knock on your apartment door. You indicated that the door was unlocked in a loud, weary voice. The door creaked open, then slammed shut, and you heard familiar footsteps crossing your hallway.
"Hiya love !"
You straighten up hastily, a big smile on your face.
"Hello Steven !"
He smiled back at you with the same energy then turned to the window and you knew he was listening to his two alters.
"Marc and Jake say hello too."
"Hi guys !" You waved awkwardly, not sure if they could see you.
Steven held grocery bags in his hands filled with what appeared to be sweets, sodas and chips. He often brought you snacks and books when he visited you, and you smile thinking that he spoils you a lot. He put them on the couch and walked over to you as you rose to greet him. He hugged you tightly, then released you, his gaze lingering on the mess that littered the floor of your living room.
"What happened here ?"
You fidgeted a little, embarrassed.
"I was trying to assemble a bookshelf, but it turned out to be more difficult than expected,” you confessed.
"Why didn't you call us ? We could have helped."
Without waiting for your answer, he frantically reached into his shirt pockets and pulled out his pair of rectangular reading glasses. You smile as you watch him put them on his nose and sit on the floor, in the same spot where you were a moment ago.
He began rummaging through the many plans and brought a few to his face to examine. You tried in vain to restrict your laughter to his old man's attitude. A chuckle escaped your lips and you couldn't stop it. Steven looked up from the papers he was holding and gave you a questioning look.
"What is it ? What's funny ?"
"You," you replied with a mocking look.
"Me ?" He says pointing his index finger to his chest. "Why ?"
"You look like a grandma."
You burst out laughing at his shocked look. He rolled his eyes playfully and returned his attention to his work.
~~~~~~
Half an hour had passed. Steven now had the same desperate look you had earlier. His curly hair stood on end from every time he'd run his hand through it.
You sighed in annoyance and stood up, your leg bones cracking after all the time you'd been sitting on the floor.
"Ummm... You want tea ? I'll make tea."
You stomped towards the kitchen without waiting for his response.
"Hey, Steven. Give me the body, you're messing it up !"
"I'm definitely not going to give you the body !" Steven exclaimed. "I know you'll end up getting upset and throwing everything away. They don't need that," he added, watching you bustle behind the counter, a kettle full of water in your hand.
"What ? I would never do that!"
"Stevie is right, amigo. You can't keep your cool," Jake sneered, joining the conversation between the british and the american.
You heard the man arguing with his reflection for a few more minutes, laughing. Eventually you saw the body straighten up and lose its shy and friendly look to be replaced with a tense body and a deep frown. You knew it was Marc who were fronting now. You watched him shake the blueprints and tools and mutter annoyedly for a few more minutes before the whistle of the kettle startles you.
~~~~~~
"That doesn't make any sense ! And why is it so hard it's just a damn bookshelf !"
"I told you, hermano."
"Oh shut up Jake !"
"You're never gonna make it if you keep arguing like this !" said Steven wearily. "Now shut up and focus on that bloody shelf before they come back."
Marc stared at the shelf he had partially built. He took a sip of the tea you had brought him and concentrated on his work while you picked up your books scattered all over the apartment, ready to put them in their new location.
"C'mon hermano, give me the body. I can do it faster than you."
Five minutes later, the large white shelf stood against the wall with a proud Jake leaning on it.
"How in the hell did you do that ?!" Marc spat in an annoyed tone.
"I always said I was the smartest of us," Jake replied smugly with a smirk. The american answered him with an irritating growl.
"Well done Jake !" exclaimed Steven.
"Jake, you did it !"
He turned to you, who had just come out of your room, a stack of books in your arms, and a wide grin. You put them on the floor and examined the shelf with an admiring look.
"Yeah, it was nothing, don't wor..."
He was interrupted by your arms hugging him tightly. Surprised, he did not immediately return your hug.
"Thanks guys. What would I do without you, hm ?"
"You probably would never assemble this damn shelf," he sneered, his arms around you.
You giggled in his neck and released him. You could sense it was Marc now.
"Do you want to do a movie night ?" You asked hopefully. You were always very happy to spend time with them and you also wanted to thank them for helping you.
"Of course kiddo. Why do you think we bought snacks ?" he said, pointing to the bags Steven had put on your couch earlier.
You grinned and thanked him.
"So, what do you want to watch ?"
"Harry Potter."
"AGAIN ?!"
"Yes, again. Now sit down and shut up. I'll go get the snacks Steven bought."
He sat down on the couch, grumbling, and turned on the TV. He complained a lot but you knew he loved doing movie nights no matter what movie you chose. You also knew he secretly enjoyed watching Harry Potter. As long as it was with you, he would be happy, they would all be happy.

Emotions (Marc x Teen!reader)
Tumblr media
I was inspired to write this so I whipped it up real quick. A bit of angst to comfort. Idk if this is just my way of venting my own personal emotions and issues by putting it into a fanfic with my favorite fictional characters, but I guess it was sort of therapeutic for me lol. Either way I hope you guys like it.
It was 8:00
It was a quiet evening and Marc Spector was on the couch next to you. He was reading a book about Egypt that Steven had been begging him to read. He seemed to be enjoying himself though.
But not you. You felt like there was a big gaping hole that got burnt into your stomach. You felt like an elephant was pushing against your chest. You were, in short, dealing with the wonderful life of being a teenager.
You wanted to scream. You wanted to break something. You wanted to cry.
Oh god. Not cry. Never cry. Especially not in front of Marc. You knew full well that crying was a sign of weakness. If you cried it would make you completely and utterly vulnerable.
And so you tried to think of something else. Something that would help you gain control over your emotions and your current state. You tried to think of happy things.
But you couldn’t.
The pressure in your chest began to grow heavier and heavier tears were forming in your eyes but you tried to blink them away. But Marc noticed your breathing had seemed to stop, as you had subconsciously held your breath.
“Y/n, are you ok?”
Oh god.
The pressure became too much to contain and you couldn’t stop the tears from spilling out. You quickly get up and make a dash to your room. If you were being forced to cry you weren’t going to let it happen in front of him.
You could hear Marc calling after you but you shut the door on it as you quickly wipe the tears away.
You don’t lay down on your bed because you worry that if you lay down, it might soften your body and make it harder to keep control over your emotions.
Not long after, you hear a light knock on the door, “Y/n?”
It was Steven.
“Come in.”
You decided that you didn’t want him to think anything is wrong. So letting him inside would be the best choice.
“Marc told me you ran off.” He said softly as he sat down next to you on the bed.
“He thought that if you came in I’d be willing to tell you what’s wrong huh?”
Steven looked sheepish, “He did seem to think I’d be able to get through to you.”
You sigh. “Well, tell Marc I’m ok and nothings wrong. I was just tired and needed to lie down a bit.”
It was then you noticed the worried look on Stevens face.
You felt guilty. You didn’t want them to worry.
“Ok, ok… it’s just… I’ve been…” you felt awkward and doubled back.
“Yes?” Steven asked.
“Ok FINE! I’vebeenfeelinglikecrapandIdon’tknowhowtodealwithit.”
You say this all with one breath.
Steven stares at you for a moment, and a soft smile appears on his face. Then suddenly his eyes seem to shift.
“I thought it might be that.”
The voice had lost the British accent.
“You were listening Marc?” You ask, slight embarrassment tinted your cheeks.
“I had to get through to you somehow. Even if I had to use Steven to do it.”
“Well you aren’t through to me. I’m not telling you anything!” You say this with a slight childish attitude.
Marc sighed, “Look, I understand you’re a teenager and that puberty sucks, and I’m no parent, but I’ve dealt with the same things when I was your age. I might be able to help. If you talked about it a little then you might feel better.”
“But.. I can’t.”
“You can’t?” He replies.
You nod.
“Why can’t you?” Marc asked. You take a deep breath, “I… I don’t want to talk about it. Well I do.. kinda. I guess I’m just…”
You realized how sentimental you sounded and shut up immediately.
“Scared?” Marc finished the sentence.
You nod.
“Well that’s ok! It’s ok to be afraid. Opening up is scary as hell. It’s hard to talk about things that bother us, usually because we’re worried of being judged by others. But I promise you, there’s absolutely nothing you can’t tell me.”
You consider this for a moment. “I don’t like to talk about… feelings, and stuff… it makes me feel weak.”
“You aren’t weak.” He assured you. “Trust me, Y/n, the bravest thing you can do is to talk about it.”
You take a deep breath. “Ok fine. The truth is. I’ve been feeling a pressure in my chest. Like there’s a big gaping hole in my stomach. It was making me feel so bad. I was trying not to cry but it didn’t work…”
Marc put an arm around you. “Oh, Y/n, if you needed to cry why didn’t you just say so?”
“But crying is showing weakness.” You say in protest, “you said Im not weak!”
“I said that opening up is the bravest thing you can do.” He said, “If you needed to cry I wouldn’t have judged you for it.”
“B-But..” you can’t hold back your feelings anymore. You are blinded by big and heavy tears. Sobs began to escape.
“There, there, just let it out..” he said gently as he pulls you close to his side. You clutch his sweater and cry into it. You cry harder than you ever had before in your life.
Marc just soothingly rubs your back. He was patient. He didn’t care how long he’d have to stay there. He just wanted to make sure you were ok.
After some time, you finally calm down.
“Better?” Marc asked, looking down at your puffy red face. You nod slowly.
He sits up, grabs a box of tissues from the night stand and hands it to you. You grab one and wipe at your eyes as well as your nose.
He pulls you in again slowly and he lets your body sink into his.
Soon you fall asleep and he moves you slowly into a laying position on your bed. He covered you with a blanket, kissed your forehead, and left you to your well earned, peaceful rest. He was already planning to check up on you in the morning.

Marc Spector x Platonic! Reader, Steven Grant x Platonic! Reader, Jake Lockley x Platonic!Reader
Reader is gender neutral
Summary: After a huge argument between you and Marc, you two go without speaking for weeks. Until one day, the Moon system is missing and you go out looking for them to bring them back and apologize.
Note: Inspired by The Last of Us >:) also its more Marc x teen!reader tbh
Word count: 8,357 (gaahd daaamn)
Warning: ANGST, death, graphic, mentions of suicide
—————————————————————
Standing above your city, you looked down at the passing small cars and pedestrians. Each of them had their own story, and you wondered how they were doing. If they were going through what you were going through.
Each thought brought you closer to the edge of the abyss than you were already. The wind tried to blow you back as if to save you from your actions.
However, why should you be saved? Your parents were killed by a villain, and you spent your entire life trying to make them happy. But they had vanished, as had your motivation. You had no one else to love you the way they did.
You missed them so dearly that all you wanted to do was go and see them.
After reaching an acceptance, you lifted your foot off the cement, ready to free fall into peace.
“Are you alright?” You heard a man's voice come from behind you.
You turn around to see the same man dressed entirely in white. He was wrapped in cloth and wore what appeared to be body armor on parts of his body. A golden crest adorned the center of his chest. In addition to his costume, his mask featured two white glowing orbs.
“If I was, I wouldn’t be thinking about jumping off,” you say. He nods, admitting his obvious question.
Without much thought, you look back to the edge and lift your foot up once again.
He extends his hand immediately as a deterrent to you continuing. "Wait, I know you might feel like there's nothing else to live for; believe me, I've felt that way before. But how will you know that the finish line was a better end if you just stop here?"
You keep quiet and just observe him. The wind howls, as if to say, take his hand and listen to what this man has to say. It wasn't what he said that made you reconsider, but rather how he attempted to save you. Why you?
You step off the ledge and take a step toward him. You can see him almost breathe out in relief.
His mask vanishes, and you are startled before seeing a man with dark brown curly hair and tanned skin. He appears firm, but his eyes convey kindness.
You reach out to him and take his hand in yours.
—-----
It was the middle of winter and spring four years later. The cold and plush feel of the sheets was incredible. The blanket on top of them kept you close and let you know you were safe.
However, a masculine voice broke all that peace. A well-known one at that.
“Hey, wake up”
The sound of metal rubbing against metal indicated that the curtains were being pulled apart, signaling the end of your comfort. You drew the blanket up to shield your face from the sun's rays.
It was immediately pulled down, and your body balled into a fetal position as the winter cold engulfed you. As you slowly opened your eyes, you noticed Marc holding your blanket away from you. As the drowsiness faded, you reached out an arm to reclaim it, but he yanked it away.
"I know the bed is comfortable, but it's time to go, kid." Marc draped the blanket over the bedframe. He then exited the small room and entered the main part of the apartment.
You sat up slowly, your bones cracking as you did so. You looked out the window, blinking away the sleepiness, to see the day was sunny but cold.
Groaning, you stood up and walked out of your room. You slowly shuffled towards Gus’s tank, grabbing the small plastic can of fish food.
“Already fed them,” a chipper voice was heard.
Looking through the fish tank to the kitchen, you noticed Steven preparing something on the stove. Giving a quick hum, you placed the food back on top of the tank.
“Morning to you, Gus," you said as you lightly tapped the glass of the tank.
You walked to the kitchen to catch a scent of what Steven was cooking.
"Good morning, you three." You sat at the table, awaiting breakfast.
Steven approached you, carrying a plate of vegan sausage and eggs with toast. "Eat up, you and Marc are-”
"Are we going to patrol again? But it's light out and people are walking around," you said as you picked up a piece of vegan meat from the plate with a fork.
"The guys who were trying to catch only happen to come out during the day. So you'll be bait," Marc clarified as he sat down and started eating from his plate.
“Like always,” You grumbled
You guys continued to eat your breakfast before getting ready to start your days.
You tried looking for the location that Marc mentioned earlier for today's small mission while walking side by side through the streets of London. Even though it was later, the cold was still with you two, so you wore two layers of clothing.
Shivering, you pulled the collar of your hoodie up to your chin to get warmth. “So who is it we’re trying to stop?”
"A group has been kidnapping people for human trafficking," Marc says before motioning to a table with two seats in front of a cafe.
You two sat at the table, puzzled as to why you were there.
"That's bad. And a coffee break?" As you leaned back in your chair, you said
Marc shakes his head and motions to a building under construction. It was surrounded by a green fence and a large tarp sign with the name of the construction company.
"That's where they're meeting; for now, we'll just wait for them to turn up." Marc reclines in his metal chair.
A waitress approaches and starts asking about your orders. Marc takes the lead as he examines the menu. Meanwhile, you're too preoccupied with looking behind Marc.
Behind him was a table filled with students your age. Each of them had a drink in front of them, and one of them appeared to make a joke based on the way everyone began to laugh.
You couldn't help but be envious of the scene. You were young but mature enough to attend college. However, you were unable to attend one due to a number of factors. As a result, you found it difficult to make friends or socialize with people your own age. Instead, you were with Marc, fighting bad guys.
A voice sounding muffled slowly became clear and snapped you back into reality, “Y/N”
Blinking in realization, you saw Marc and the waitress staring at you, waiting.
"What do you want, kid?" Marc inquired, sounding less annoyed and more patient.
"Oh, I'll just get some matcha tea." You looked up at the waitress for confirmation, and she nodded and walked away.
You two sat in silence, your gaze fixed on the group. Marc noticed as well after following your eyes.
“Anything on your mind?” He turned back to you.
You slightly jumped at how Marc was able to notice you in deep thought, “Nothing really…..actually there is something I’ve been meaning to ask you”
 Marc raised a brow and asked, “What is it?”
You shrank, not expecting to be able to speak, and said, "Uh, so I was wondering if I could go back to school..."
Marc stared at you and said, “College?”
You nodded, and the waitress returned with your drinks before you could explain further. You two exchanged an awkward smile before she asked if that was all. She returned to the cafe with just a nod from you two.
“How long have you been thinking about it?” Marc questions that once you two are alone again,
"For a while now," you cross your arms and lean back, your gaze fixed on the road and passing cars.the street and passing cars. "I was thinking I could fit it in on days when you don't need me and I'm stuck at home all day."
You say the last part with annoyance, which Marc notices.
Marc sighs, “Y/N…”
"I know you say that being out in public makes it easy for bad people to find me, but I guarantee you that I can handle myself." You put your elbows on the table to get closer to Marc so he can listen better.
“Y/N”
“I won’t get too many classes!”
“Y/N”
"I'll even stay late to patrol with you guys, and-"
“No!” Marc raises his voice.
You don't mind that a few people in the cafe are now staring at you two. You look down at your untouched cup of matcha, angry rather than sad. Marc sighs, running his hand through his hair.
"We can't risk problems like that; college might make things worse, and you won't be able to handle it on your own if something goes wrong," Marc declares.
You remain silent and stare down at your cup. Marc looks at you, his lips pursed in guilt. He tries to think of ways to break the tension, but nothing comes to mind.
A few cars speed up but then slow down to turn around in front of the previous building. Two men enter and take a look around before closing the gate to the entrance.
"Are you ready to go?" Marc casts a glance your way, but you avoid his sights.
"Please, just—...  We'll finish this job and then talk about college, okay?" Marc nearly begged.
Looking back up, you made eye contact, thinking about it before nodding, “Okay”
After going over the plan again, you were sent to speak to the group. A few men stood guard by the gate, watching you as you approached. "Hey, I believe I was told to come here?" You looked around and pointed to your phone.
"Another way she's getting people in?" one of the men asks the other.
"She?" You thought to yourself, "This is the first time I hear a girl is leading shit."
“Yeah, follow us” the man finally says and the gate opens, letting you two in.
You look behind you to see if Marc is nearby, but he isn't. You already know he's hiding and trust that he'll be there every step of the way, but being alone for this part is terrifying.
They lead you to the first floor of the unfinished structure. Because it isn't built, the walls aren't there, allowing the wind to blow inside. It is detrimental to your body's temperature.
Looking around, there are a few wooden tables with guns on top of them. It was clear that the group didn't care that it was out in the open.
When they notice you looking at the weapons, they zip tie your hands together without a warning. You struggle to pull your hands apart. The friction you create against the plastic causes your wrist to burn.
“What the fuck?! Get these off!” You give your best acting.
"Shut up, you guys always yell too loud and it's making me deaf," grunts the man. "Let her know that we have another one."
A man nods and walks away. The man walks towards you, pulling a chair to himself and sitting on it backwards.
“Well get comfortable, because it’ll be the-“
"Will this be the last time?" You scoff, shaking your head. You didn't care if it messed up the plan; you were still irritated with Marc.
"You guys just don't know how to make conversation." you moan
"Looks like you're not scared anymore," the man says with a small laugh. "Can you tell me your name, kid?"
"Ew, don't call me a kid, and why does it matter what my name is? You're just going to change it, or however human trafficking works."
This time, the man laugh loudly, "Human trafficking?! That has nothing to do with what we plan to do."
A group walks in on cue, and a woman holds a long object wrapped in cloth. “We found it! Call Vanessa!”
You take a look around and notice how pleased everyone is with the info they have got. You're curious on what everyone is so excited about. Another woman walks in, her ginger hair tied in a tight ponytail. She's dressed in a dark green tank top, cargo pants, and combat boots. The thing is, she's your age.
At this point, it is obvious who is the leader of the whole situation and who they call Vanessa.
She walks by and glances at you and asks, “How many do we have now?”
“About 14, you think that’s enough?” The man from before stands up from the chair.
“We’ll see” Vanessa grabs the object and begins to unwrap it.
You concentrate on the mystery item because some of the colors show through each time the cloth is unwrapped. Your eyes then widen with each repetition.
Unwrapped, Vanessa holds up a cane. A cane with a crocodile head on top.
You recall Steven telling you about a fight he and Marc had with a man named Harrow. With the assistance of a goddess named Ammit, he used a cane similar to the one now in use to murder people.
Marc assured you that it had been destroyed and that you were safe, but are you still safe?
The way the two explained the power it possessed scared you. Jake, on the other hand, terrified you with his explanation of the world's future if it returned.
“Bring them to me, we’ll test it out” Vanessa says as she grips the cane.
You blink and realize what is about to happen. Two men lift you up and drag you towards Vanessa.
“Get off!” You try to get away from their grip but they tighten their hold. You search up and around the place, hoping Marc or Steven is there.
Vanessa brings the top of the cane towards your face. You move your head back to escape, but Vanessa keeps drawing it closer.
Marc nor Steven nor Jake were seen. Since they were taking long, you acted on your own.
You use your right hand to pull out the pocket knife you're carrying. You take out the blade and force it through the loop of the zip tie on the plastic. With your hands free, you flip the knife around and aim it at one of the guys' thigh. You slam it into their femur, eliciting a scream from the man.
Both men lose their grip and you stand up, swinging the knife at the other man’s throat. As they back away, more come.
Vanessa glares at you before she tries to use the cane. It starts to glow and you back up into a corner. Theres nowhere to go as the rest of the group surrounds you.
Before Vanessa could send you flying, Marc comes in and side-kicks her down. The cane clatters to the floor and skids across the room.
She lifts herself up and looks at Marc with hatred, "Its you"
Looking at Marc in his suit, he swings left and right at the men. A few members of the group appear from behind you while he is busy. You duck the punches with your knife in hand and target specific areas of their body with the blade.
With the last one dropping to the floor, you catch your breath and look over to see Marc still fighting. To your right is a woman shooting at him but of course not working. Still, it is throwing Marc off course as he fights.
You rush up to her, wrapping your arm around her neck and stabbing her in the stomach. As her body falls limp, she drops the gun to the floor.
Marc notices and finishes off the last man before walking to you.
“Let’s go” He says harshly
“They have the cane, we could get it back” You gesture to where the cane is.
“Let’s go!”
You both go quiet as you hear a loud buzzing sound. As if something is powering up. Turning around, you see Vanessa pointing the cane towards you two, a purple light glowing brighter and brighter.
Not hesitating, Marc picks you up before running out of the building and flies off the ground. A blast passes you two just missing by a bit.
Vanessa glares at you two as you make a break for it.
“Get more ready” she commands the last of her team standing, “He’s going to come back for this”
She holds the cane tightly in her hand, the metal crocodile shining from its polished material.
——
Marc set you down at the apartment after you kicked and squirmed in his grasp. His suit vanished, and he began to walk away from you, hands on his hips, looking down.
"I told you to stick to the plan," he said, his voice deep within his throat. You can almost feel the lingering anger from it.
"I did, but as you saw back there, I was almost killed!" you scrunch up your face as you set your sweater down and sit on the couch. "And I did just fine on my own," you crossed your arms and turned your gaze away from him.
"Really?" he scoffs, "Because it looked like you were being cornered back there, with what? A knife?" He mocked
You try to get a word in but right now Marc is blowing up, “You straight up ignored what I asked of you and almost got yourself killed!”
“But I didn’t,” you say firmly, looking straight into his eyes.
Marc bites his cheek and shakes his head, “You can forget about college”
“What?!” You stand up from the couch.
"You heard me, if I can't trust you to follow a simple plan, how can I trust you to go somewhere as simple as class?"
"Oh, so just because I decided to stand up for myself, you don’t trust me anymore?”
You raised your eyebrows at him, and you both glared at each other. Steven could feel the tension rising and knew things were about to get out of hand. He made the decision to take control of the body right away.
Marc’s composure became timid and soft, and you knew why. Looking up at Steven, he gave a small, one sided smile.
“How about we cool off shall we?” He patted you on the shoulder and began to walk to the kitchen, “Ill make us lunch alright? How does that sound?”
He turned to you with a grin but you stared down to the floor and mumbled, “Im not hungry”
From there, you marched up to your room and shut the door.
“You two could have just talked it through,” Steven sighed.
Jake hummed in response, while Marc stayed quiet.
“You guys might not be related but you sure act like father and daughter”
-
You sat on your bed, your gaze fixed on the wall across from you. There were a few posters and wall decorations, such as shelves with figurines, but directly across from you was a picture of you and Marc at a lake. Jake was cooking kebabs on the grill in the picture next to it. Another picture of you with Steven and Layla.
Just one mistake, and now you've lost the chance to get a normal sense of life. Lost the ability to make friends. Lost the ability to experience so many things all together.
As your thoughts ate you up, you felt a burst of wind. Soon after Khonshu was sitting at your desk that was in the corner of your room. He held his staff and looked at you, waiting for you to acknowledge his presence.
“Why are you here?” You said annoyed.
“I came to see if you might have been climbing through the window again.” He set the staff down, making it lean on the wall.
“You know about me sneaking out?”
“Yes, but don’t worry, I haven’t told your three fathers out there.” He slightly chuckled.
Your face scrunched up, “Don’t say that, you’ll probably jinx it”
After that, there was silence, and Khonshu exhaled, "They're just trying to protect you, especially Marc." They all do care about you”
“If they did care about me, they wouldn’t keep me locked up here,” you say, looking over to the window, seeing how it's still sunny out there.
Khonshu hesitates before continuing “...I know I shouldn’t say this but the reason why he has been keeping you safe is because he sees his younger brother in you”
“He has a brother?”
“Had” he clarifies.
"Marc blames himself for his death and never forgave himself, despite the fact that he was only a child," Khonshu continues. "Perhaps that's why he wants to protect you and heal that wound."
You wrapped your head around what he said and only got angrier, “...So the real reason he kept me around was to use me as some kind of therapy?”
Khonshu paused, “That isnt’t what I said”
“Well thats what it sounds like” you laugh and run your hands through your hair. You stand up from your bed and grab your other hoodie from your dresser and walk to the window.
“Where are you going?” Khonshu stands up, grabbing his staff in the process.
“Just– leave me alone” After you open the window and climb out onto the fire escape.
You descend the escape and walk to the place where you go to be alone. It’s a 20 minute walk from the flat but it’s worth it. It is an abandoned building with a stable flight of stairs leading to an open area with views of London. You walk over to the edge and sit, allowing your legs to dangle. Normally, you do this at night, but because the sun is shining, all you can do is stare at the sky and think.
-
As night falls, you can hear heavy footsteps ascending. When you turn your head, you see Marc in his white suit. His mask falls away, and you can see a sense of relief wash over him. His chest heaves as if he's just flown all over town looking for you. That he did.
You begin to stand up and he rushes towards you. He examines your face to see if your fine and then brings you into a hug.
“What the hell, you don’t just run off like that without telling me or sending me a text” he breathes out.
It would have been nice, but remembering what Khonshu said makes the embrace seem insincere. He was hugging his brother instead of you. You push him away, and he is taken aback but maintains his distance.
“Im tired, and I just want an explanation…” you finally say
Marc nods and asks, “Is it about college? Is that why you left?”
"Part of it” You breathe out, "But that’s not what I wanted to talk about”
“Then what is it?”
You take a moment to find the words but they aren’t hard to find. This makes Marc nervous though.
“Why did you save me?”
It went quiet, Marc looked at you confused, “What?”
“Back when we met, I was going to jump off that building, but you came and talked me out of it.” You hold your ground as you stare at him.
Marc stays quiet and you take that chance to continue talking, “I was supposed to die that day, I already had no plans for my life so I was ready. Instead, you came and saved me, why?”
“…I couldn’t just let you throw your life like that“
You scoffed, “Then tell me it was for me and not your brother”
Marc’s eyes widened and his jaw clenched, “Khonshu told you about my brother?”
You nodded, “So that’s why you saved me? To get closure or something?”
“No, Y/N I-“
“Then what?! Why was I so different that you had to save me?!” you said impatiently.
This time, you shoved him back. He stumbled but stayed on his feet.
“I’m now stuck here dealing with the bad part of the world again! I can’t even make friends because you think I’ll get hurt! And I have to live with hiding from everyone and everything, because of you!”
You try to shove him again, but Marc grabs your hands and pulls them away from you. He was hurt, but discovering the cane was back and failing to stop it was drowning it out. He didn't mean to say what he was about to say.
"Well, I couldn't just let you jump off and end up being a flat piece of meat! What?! Did you want to be another name on the list of people who couldn't deal with life anymore?!"
Taken aback, you step back. Marc notices what he said and closes his eyes in regret, “Kid, I didn’t mean to say that”
“…I should have jumped off faster,” you finally say, “I wish we had never fucking met”
Marc's lips part slightly and only stares at you. He forgets about earlier today and is only focused on you. How there are tears falling from your eyes when they only come out when you two are watching a sad movie. How you are angry when that only happens when you lose at Mario Kart. All these innocent reasons were out of the picture because he had said something he shouldn’t have.
“Y/N..” he reaches out to you but you slap his hand away.
"Don't fucking touch me," your words sting and tense Marc.
You walk past him and walk down the stairs, wiping all the tears with the sleeve of your sweater. Meanwhile Marc stays frozen in the same spot.
-
It’s been two weeks since your argument with Marc. Steven and Jake have taken turns in taking care of you since Marc decided to go AWOL.
He didn't do it because he wanted to; he did it because he knew you despised him. Despised him for never telling you the whole truth about your saving. But most importantly, for insulting your feelings.
The real reason you were angry with him wasn’t that he saved you. It was because he didn’t save you for you.
You were actually angry with him the first week. You didn't want to deal with him. You purposefully ignored him for the first week, only calling out to the other alters. When this happened, Steven and Jake felt terrible and looked at Marc, who only hid.
However, by the second week, all of that rage had vanished. You were no longer angry with him; instead, you missed him. You wanted to apologize, but you assumed he despised you because of the harsh words you used.
It was now raining and cold. It was like Mother Nature knew you were feeling gloomy and wanted to make it worse. You climbed out of bed and looked outside to the storm that was passing through. You frowned and turned to the door of your room.
You peeked to what was the rest of the apartment. It was quiet with only the bubbles from the fish tank bubbling and the rain hitting the roof. The boys weren’t here which left only you in the flat. You walked over to the kitchen and opened the fridge to see if there was anything to eat.
Failing to do so, you shut the fridge door and turned to see a yellow lined sheet of paper on the dining table.
Taking a closer look, it looked like Marc’s handwriting.
Knowing it was from him reminded you again of how much you missed him and his company. You were regretting ever trying to argue with him. If you hadn’t, he would have shared breakfast time with you like every other morning.
Hey, we went to find the cane. Well, be right back. Steven made some vegan stuff and left it on the stove. Please eat.
Even though it was just writing, you can tell Marc was hesitant in starting the note and felt like he was on thin ice. He was probably convinced by the other two to write.
It is delicious! I recommend heating on the stove instead of microwaving. Eat! You need strength! Also, we have news for you when we come back :)
You smiled at how Steven was so cheerful. You were honestly excited about what they had to say. Hopefully it meant you and Marc can stop going through silent treatment.
Cuídate mija, don’t open the door for anyone. My card is on the bed if you don’t want to eat Steven's cooking ;)
You almost laughed knowing it was Jake, he always loved bullying the other two. Getting to the last part, you notice how it switched to Marc’s handwriting again.
We’ll be back soon.
Love From,
Marc, Steven, and Jake
You stared at how the word "love" was crossed out and wondered if Marc was the one who thought of it or if the others did. Either way, it moved you and you felt even worse about yelling at Marc.
You fold the note and put in the pocket of your sweatpants. Going to the fridge, you grab the pot of pasta and walk over to the stove. You heat it over the flame and wait for it boil.
In the meantime, you return to your room. You stoop to the level of your bed and place your hand beneath it. You move your hand around mindlessly until it comes into contact with a small box.
Pulling it out, you open it two see two blunts with a lighter inside. Once you take out both the lighter and a blunt, you make your way to the nearest window.
Taking a look at the lighter, you examine the almost peeling moon sticker on it. It was from a sheet that you saw at the market when you went with Marc for groceries a while back
You slipped it into the basket before he noticed it in the line. All he did was simply look at it and give a small chuckle, glancing at you before putting it with the rest of the items.
You smiled as you inserted the blunt between your teeth and lit the end with your lighter. You inhaled deeply and exhaled the smoke out the window and into the world. Notifying everyone who passes by that you are high at the moment.
The soothing patter of the rain put you in a pondering state. Wondering if you can handle another two months of not speaking to Marc again.
Actually you couldn’t, and you didn’t want to.
You didn’t want to give him the silent treatment anymore and you wanted to apologize. Apologize for not having a civil conversation which turned to a yelling battle.
You thought of the choice of words for Marc and how to repay him for the damage that was done.
Letting out another breath of smoke, you came to a closing.
“Hope you aren’t angry with me” you sigh and put out the blunt.
—————
A Few Hours Earlier
—————
In his Moon Knight suit, Marc was jumping from building to building trying to find the new hiding spot of the group. The storm made it almost difficult to see any suspicious buildings in sight. However, they weren’t even in his mind right now.
“Mate, I think it’s time to talk about Y/N”
“Yes, I think you two should talk when we come back”
“I know,” Marc continued staring straight ahead, “I just don’t know how to apologize. They probably hate me”
“They don’t hate you, they idolize you”
“They do?”
“Of course, that move they did back at the hideout was yours. They have been watching you anytime you go and fight”
Marc maintains his silence but can't help but smile. This time it hits him how much he misses you as well. He misses being able to tell you about his day. Your movie nights and Nintendo tournaments. For you, he’ll do anything to make it up to you.
“…I’ll talk to them when we’re done with this,” he says.
Steven and Jake smile, “Then let’s get this done quickly”
Marc continues running on top of the roofs until he stops and sees a building with purple flowing out of the windows.
“That’s them”
Marc stands on the edge of a nearby building and examines each room, trying to find where the so called Vannessa is at.
“There”
Marc looks over to one window and sees Vanessa talking to some group members. In another window he can see the cane on a table unprotected.
Marc gets off the building and jumps into one of the windows closest to the cane. With the breaking of glass, everyone in the building is now alerted but Marc can take them.
That is until he feels his power begin to leak out of his body. Confused he looks to his hands and sees how his suit is starting to disappear to where soon he is just in his casual clothes. Looking around, he sees the group corner him with guns drawn. He doesn’t move a muscle and only raises his hands up to show surrender. Soon Vanessa makes her way in and stares at Marc.
"I don't have a good feeling about this"
“Took you long enough. Got lost?” She said snarkily, “Oh wait, I forgot you're an ex-marine right?”
She then looks over to one of the men and gestures her head to Marc, “In the leg”
Before Marc can understand, a shotgun is loaded, soon aimed, and a bullet is fired at his thigh. Marc lets out a scream of pain and drops to his knees, holding the wound. Two men rush in and hold him against the wall.
"Marc!"
"Let me take control!"
Marc tries to get out of their grip, but with the pain in his leg throbbing, he feels his senses leaving.
Vanessa makes her way to him and crouches down to his level, looking into his eyes.
“To cut it quick, remember how that red witch controlled that small town? Well it turns out she had a barrier going on, so I said why not I do it too. Point A you crossed and point B you are now powerless and,”
Vanessa takes out a blade and lodges it into Marc’s other thigh, which causes him to groan in pain, but he continues to look at her.
“Mortal. Oh, and I know about your weird alter, Jack? Jake? I don’t fucking know, but I know he’s a pain in the ass but with no mobility, he’s nothing”
"Hija del reputa madre"
Marc glares at her and stays quiet.
“Aren’t you wondering why I’m being a bitch to you?”
“Well when you see a bitch you’ll expect them to be a bitch” Marc remarks which causes Vanessa to land a punch on his face.
“Funny. You’re not going to be laughing soon. Do you know who I am?”
Marc huffs and just shrugs, “Why don’t you just tell me and get this over with”
Vanessa lands him another punch and this time Marc is now bleeding from his nose.
“Switzerland. You were there looking for the scarab, and my father,” Vanessa stabs Marc once again in the thigh, “was there and you killed him. For what? For trying to make the world a better place?”
Marc doesn’t say anything but just glares at her. Vanessa scoffs and gets up, walking to another table.
“Tourniquet his legs” is all she says before grabbing a bat. A woman does what she says and ties a rope above Marc’s wound.
Everyone watches Vanessa’s moves, awaiting for next command. She turns to him and winds her elbow back before landing a blow to Marc's head.
——
The rain was still going, which is what lulled you into sleep. You were laying on the couch with an arm covering half your face. The blunt might have also been part of the equation in your slumber.
The coffee table was a mess before but now an even bigger mess with the bowl of food that Steven made being on there with the fork inside. Next to it was your ashtray which had what was left of your blunt.
You felt at peace before you heard urgent knocking at the door. Slowly opening your eyes, you sit up and hear your bones crack from being asleep.
Walking over to the door, you check the peephole and see Layla still knocking.
You open the door, and Layla looks at you a tad disappointed, "Hey, what’s up?”
“Can I come in? It’s urgent” She points to the inside of the apartment which you nod and let her in.
“Jesus, was that you?” Layla coughs and waves her hand to get the smoke that fills the room away.
“Uh, maybe. Anyway, what happened? You’re never this freaked out”
Layla bites her cheek, “Have you heard from Marc? Steven? Jake? Any of them?”
You blink, “Not as of lately, all I got was a note from them saying they were going to find the cane”
“Yeah, the last text I got was him saying he found the hideout, but I haven’t gotten a response.” Layla pulls out her phone.
She shows you the last message from him, which was about 5 hours ago. Usually Marc would need less than that to complete a job.
“Maybe things got heavy, they’re probably on their way now.” You try to reason, but in reality, you begin to worry.
“If they were, I would be able to see their location but it’s off. I have a bad feeling something might have happened” Layla's face is tense and she doesn't appear to be able to relax.
Usually Layla was the one who was the calmest amongst the trio. So whatever it was that happened must be bad.
“What do we do?” You cross your arms.
Layla fidgets with her wedding ring as she looks down, “I-I don’t know”
All you do is stare at Layla and try to think. The boys were always the brains in this sort of thing, all you did was follow. What would they do?
You can probably retrace your steps, but again, you have been missing out on all the meetings ever since you claimed your hatred for the side missions.
A blast of wind comes and blows away all the pages that were on the coffee table. You and Layla turn to the noise and see Khonshu. However, he looks rough and stressed. Having both of the ofthe group who always calm now stressed was odd and almost a bad omen. He doesn’t waste any time before he starts.
“They’re in trouble, the group created a barrier which caused me to unlatch from them”
“What?” You say with disbelief.
“There’s no time! They are in grave danger and need help!”He bangs his staff on the ground to get the message across.
You feel your heart begin to beat rapidly. You’re almost frozen by the news that they're in danger. They have saved you countless of times so it would make sense to repay the debt.
“Take me,” you say and Layla looks at you shocked.
She grabs onto your shoulders, “Y/N, no. We have to go together, we don’t know what they are capable of”
“I can handle it on my own,” you say before removing her hands and holding them, “I’ll be fine, I’ll send you the address and you can meet us there”
You begin to walk to Khonshu which he does not hesitate to give you your own powers temporarily. You are quickly enveloped in a similar suit of the Moon Knight’s. If it was a normal situation, you would have gloated but today was different.
“Wait Y/N!” Layla calls out but you are gone. She looks around to think before she calls for an old friend.
——
All you can do is keep running, jumping from building to building. Nothing else is on your mind but the three men who have been by your side for the past few years.
“It’s right there!” Khonshu called out.
You looked down and see a building with a purple glow coming from inside the windows before it leaves. That must have been the barrier that was made to stop Marc and the others from having Khonshu by their side.
Khonshu immediately takes you to the building's entrance. It doesn’t take you long before you burst through the doors. The suit disappearing at the same time. You don’t let Khonshu explain to you how many there are or what they are capable of doing. All you want is to see Marc again and apologize for everything you've said. How you are glad that you met him.
You look around the first floor quickly to find signs of one of the boys being there but they aren’t. Rushing up the flight of stairs you find an open space with a few tables of a few weapons. You walk to one and grab a pistol. You check for bullets which thankfully it has a few.
You never learned to handle one before which leads you to grabbing a knife from there too. Once you look over your weapons, you hear a large thud coming from upstairs and grunting.
“Marc” You breath out and sprint up the stairs.
All that adrenaline begins to spread through your body. That is until you get to the top of the stairs.
The scene is horrifying. Your eyes widen and you feel the world go quiet, only your heartbeat can be heard banging through your ears. At first you thought it was your pulse going crazy.
Thud
It was just your pulse.
Thud
It was your pulse, thats what you kept telling yourself.
Thud
Marc received another blow to the head. He was helpless. He could only lie on his stomach and let blood drain from his nose and mouth. His left eye was purple and swollen. Red had now stained his dark brown curls.
All of this pain inflicting on him was coming from the red haired woman. Vanessa.
You're enraged, and you swear you see red. You point the gun at her, ready to fire, when one of the members notices you and tries to take the gun from you. You two fall to the ground while attempting, causing the gun to skid across the floor. You pull out your knife before he can get up. You swing it at the man horizontally. Making a cut at his neck.
Unfortunately, it is not deep enough.
When the other two members notice your presence, they tackle you. You try to push them off with all your strength, but they pin your arms behind your back. Their weight crushes you, causing your cheek to collide with the cold floor.
“Get the fuck off me!” You yell out.
The man who you cut wipes the blood off and glares at you. He immediately rushes to you and begins to kick you in your stomach, calling you a ‘bitch’. Before he can do more damage, another member holds him back.
“Hey! Hey! Thats enough!” Says the man as he tries to keep his friend from beating you.
You don’t care about the man though. All your attention is on the redhead. You have never felt so much anger as you do right now.
“You’re going to fucking die!” You growl.
She looks at you and cocks her head to the side, “It’s you from before”
You continue to glare at her before two other people come in. One man and one woman, they look at the scene before continuing on with Vanessa.
“Who’s that?” The man points at you.
The woman then adds, “How are they here? Why weren’t you on watch?”
The one with the cut on his neck yells, “I didn’t know he’d bring someone else!”
“Well thats enough, it won’t take long until people report a noise complaint” the man looks at Vannessa.
“You want what I want, right?” She grips the base of the bat as she stares at the man.
The man stays quiet and just says, “End it. Now”
Realizing what they said, you stop resisting and look over to Marc’s body. You look at him with pleading eyes and beg, “Guys, get up. Get up!”
Even though they are badly hurt, you can see the small shift between Steven and Jake. Jake, who tries to move but fails. Steven, who tries to reach out to you but can’t.
They soon give control to Marc. He tries his best to open his eyes and looks over at you. He mumbles your name, you’re the only thing he focuses on once again.
“Marc, fucking get up!” Your voice cracks.
You look back at Vanessa and now beg, “Please stop!”
She ignores you and winds her arm back, having a tight grip on the bat.
“Please don’t do this…” you sob, “Marc, please get up!”
Vanessa then brings the bat down and smashes it against Marc’s skull. Blood spilling more than there was.
“Nooo!” You yell out feeling your throat burn from forcing your vocal cords.
You sob as you stare at Marc’s lifeless body. The man who loved and protected you was no longer here. He was gone.
One of the members walk up to his body and spit on him, wishing him to be in hell. That same anger from before comes back up and you try to get up.
“I'll fucking kill you!” You keep repeating to them.
The members of the group began debating whether or not to kill you. However, as you stare at Marc, all of their voices become muffled. Your gaze then shifts to Vanessa, who drops the bat and turns to face you.
You remember her features. In fact, all of their features. Memorize them so they don't believe they are free. Keep them close by memorizing them. Remember them for Marc. Remember them for Steven. Remember them for Jake. It's for them.
You breathe heavily before one member comes to you and kicks you in the head to knock you out.
-
“Y/N” Layla softly calls out to you, shaking your body awake.
She is wearing her suit given to her by Tawaret. She was too late though.
You open your eyes slowly and mumble, “Are they…”
Layla looks down and nods, “I’m sorry”
-
Back at the apartment, you stayed sitting on their bed. What once used to be their bed. The sheets are still undone and you can still see where their head lay. They would have done the bed by now. There would be food being cooked right now. Instead, it was their funeral.
You fidget with the Star of David necklace that used to be theirs. Looking at it, remembering how it sat around their neck.
A knock comes from the door but you don’t try to get up. Usually it was one of them knocking, usually because they forgot their keys or wallet. But they aren’t here. The door didn’t matter.
It opens, and you can hear hesitant steps approaching you. Layla can be recognised by her heels clicking on the wooden floors. "Are you ready?" she asks, holding both hands over her stomach as she turns to face you.
Her voice is almost a whisper. She must have been crying all night.
“Yeah…” You look up at her and see you were right.
Her eyes were red and her face tear stained. Yet she tried to keep her composure for you. She wore a black slim dress with black heels. Her hair was tied in a low ponytail.
For you, all you had on was a black jacket, shirt, and jeans with black boots.
You two made your way outside the building to a taxi. Layla spoke to the driver while you remained silent and gazed out the window. You were numb because the world seemed numb to you.
Soon enough you got to the cemetery and saw a few people there. Not family but more of colleagues from his Egyptian work it seemed. You and Layla stayed close to his grave, watching as his coffin lowered inside. All you could do was think about his beaten face inside that coffin.
Once buried, everyone quickly left except you. You remained motionless, staring at the tombstone. You got down on your knees, grabbed a small pebble, and placed it on top of the stone, following a Jewish tradition you'd learned beforehand.
“I'm so sorry, I should have said that earlier. If only I did” you croaked.
After bidding farewell to last guests, Layla walked up behind you and put a hand on your shoulder, “When your ready”
"Um, I'll catch up to you. I just need more time," you say, looking up at her.
Layla gives a tight smile and nods, “Okay." She walks away, her steps fading away.
You breath out, seeing your breath in the cold. Your fingers were frozen but you didn’t care. As expected, you feel the wind pass by you. Knowing who it was, you didn’t bother in looking up.
“I am sorry for your loss, Y/N” Khonshu gently says.
You don’t say anything and continue to stare at Marc’s carved name on the tombstone. Khonshu doesn’t find it surprising and understands.
He thinks before he says, “As you humans say, they are no longer suffering here-”
“I want to go look for them.” You don’t look up at him when you say it. You grab a handful of dirt from the ground and slowly release it back down.
Khonshu, surprised, responds, "It's dangerous, they wouldn't want you to go alone"
"I know they wouldn't want me to, but I want to. Are you going to help me?" You take a step forward and look at him. He looks into your eyes and sees the revenge burning within your irises.
He stays quiet, which you take as a no. “Fine, I’ll do it by myself”
You clench your fist and look down at the grave. Marc's death plays over and over in your mind. Each face flashes through your mind, and you consider how each one aided in his death. How you begged them to stop.
“I’m going to kill, every last one of them”
---
Anyways, wasn't that cool? :D
Also, I know the argument between the reader and Marc was dumb but you try coming up with an argument that isn't cliche or one that would be reasonable for you to get mad at. It was for the plot is what I'm trying to say.
If yall want me to write a happy ending to it let me know or don't idk

As the shot rang out through the vast room, all you could do was stand frozen in shock and horror as your blood ran colder than the moon.
The sound was deafening, but you could still hear everything. The grunt of a man. The sound of splashing as a body hit the water. The sound of heavy breathing. But above all, your own heartbeat that rang above all the other sounds. Louder. Clearer.
You barely registered as your mothers sobbing form took you into her arms, pulling you to her chest so that she could try and comfort you.
But no tears fell out of your eyes, you couldn’t wrap your mind around it. Any of it.
Your father couldn’t be dead. Your strong, brave father, Marc Spector.
Or your other father, the kind and gentle one, Steven Grant. The one that you had only met a few days ago, but formed a deep attachment with nonetheless.
How had this happened? Just moments ago you were running through the halls of the tomb, more than certain that you and your family would beat Arthur Harrow to Ammit, then all of you could finally find peace.
Then the next thing you knew, you heard your mothers outraged screaming and then your fathers deep and calm-even in the middle of a crisis, but still partially desperate- voice trying to coax her away from the room.
Then you had run in, just in time for Marc to gently push you towards your mother, telling her to take care of you, barely having time to give you a gentle kiss on the crown of your head before ushering you and Layla out of sight.
He had been so prepared to fight to the death for the two of you. Make sure that you guys got out of there okay, and it ended up being the last thing he would ever do.
It was a battle that he had lost.
Marc had found you eleven years earlier on one of his mercenary missions and back then you were just a young, four year old, child who had no family and nobody to turn to for help.
Without knowing it, you immediately captured the normally cold man’s heart and he took you under his wing right away, giving you a place to stay and food to eat.
That was before Layla had come along, and when she did, you looked up to her almost right away and she quickly began loving you like a daughter.
It wasn’t perfect, but you guys were quick to make a small family of each other. A family that loved one another, no matter what.
It was as if you were watching from a far as Layla gently took you by the shoulders and kissed the crown of your head, trying to silence her soft sobs the best she could.
You just looked up at her with a pale face and wide eyes, mouth dropped slightly open.
Then without warning, or meaning to, you harshly pushed away from her and sprinted to where your father had been standing just a moment before.
Ignoring her whisper shouts for you to come back, you made a beeline to the water right behind the sarcophagus, and when you saw what was there, your knees gave out from underneath you in sheer horror.
Marc’s body lay there, half in, and half out of the water, his eyes closed, and half open mouth still. Not a muscle in his body moved.
A sob escaped your lips for the first time, now that you were looking at him, “Dad,” you shook him a little, as if trying to wake him up, “Come on, dad, please. Dad!”
Your mother quickly came up from behind you and caught you just before you collapsed again, and began shushing you even though she too was crying.
The salty tears streamed down your face, one after another, like an endless waterfall of sorrow.
After a moment, Layla gently tapped your shoulder to let you know that she was going to let go, and moved towards her husband with a shaky figure.
Once she took a long breath, she gently pushed Marc into the water, as if afraid he were made of glass.
Your sobbing continued, but did quiet down a bit when you came to your senses and realized that Harrow was still most likely in one of the mazes of halls somewhere and might still hear you.
You watched as Layla slowly stood up and then helped you up as well, “Come on,” she whispered tearfully, “We have to go.”
You couldn’t even give him a proper funeral.
With that you went back to your barely-registering-anything-state, and allowed your mother to lead you out of the tomb without complaint.
Not a word was passed between either of you as you got into a cab that brought you guys back to your hotel room.
It was only once you got into the room that she finally spoke up, “I’m going to go out for a while, sweetie. I need you to stay here.”
On a normal day, you would’ve fought against her and insisted that you go where she was going. Because on a normal day you would’ve known her, and you would’ve known where she was going. To face Arthur Harrow, alone.
But you didn’t have the energy to think or comprehend what she had said to you as you numbly nodded.
She quickly bent down to your height as you sat on the bed, staring at the floor, and she moved her face so that you were looking at her, “I need you to promise me that you will stay in this room. No matter what.”
Again you just nodded, but when she gave you a slightly stern look, you mumbled, “I promise.”
She seemed to visibly relax when hearing that, “Thank you, sweetie.”
Giving you a quick kiss on the forehead, and grabbing a couple of things, she scurried out of the room, making sure that the door locked behind her.
She was only okay with leaving you alone because she knew that Arthur and his followers would be somewhere looking for Ammit, meaning she could keep them as far away from you as possible.
That and there was plenty of food in the mini fridge for you to last a few days.
You sat in the same spot that she had left you for hours, staring blankly at the spot on the peeling beige colored wall.
Then suddenly, without warning, it was if a gust of wind had just blown through the room at full force and brought a huge dust patch with it, but the widows weren’t even open.
Your wide eyes traveled over to where Khonshu then stood in the place that the dust patch and been, and though you had never actually seen him, you knew enough Egyptology to know who he was.
“Little Spector.” The god greeted.
“What do you want?” Your voice came out hollow, as if you were done with everything and everyone.
“I need your help, you need to become my avatar.” The bird replied, his tone impatient and restless.
You scoffed, “And why would I ever do that?”
“Because the world is in danger.” He said it as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“I think enough Spectors have been taken from the world today because of you and your stupid war.” Anger suddenly replaced that emptiness that you had been feeling all afternoon.
“Your mother is in danger.”
This made you pause where you were, halfway standing up as you were ready to match over and yell at the skeleton looking bird.
He could see that he had gotten you to pause and took that to his advantage, “An avatar is needed so that Ammit and Harrow can be stopped.” He insisted.
“I will not be your avatar.” You made sure to make yourself clear as you made up your mind, “But I will be someone else’s avatar. Anybody else, I don’t care. As long as it’s not you.” You spat out the last word like venom.
Khonshu paused, studying you for a moment, “You are brave, Little Spector… I know the perfect goddess for you to host.”
With that the dust and wind appeared again but gone as soon as it came without a trace, leaving you to wonder if any of that had really just happened.
“Y/n Spector.” A smooth and melodic voice suddenly rang out in your head after a moment, “I am Mayari, goddess of the moon and ruler of the night.”
The name rang a bell to you, when your mother had taught you years ago about Philippine mythology. You were originally from the Philippines before Marc found you, and Layla found it very important to teach you about the culture of where you came from. And you had always really appreciated that.
“Khonshu has informed me of the situation,” she continued, “And if what he says is true, then I need your help just as much as you need mine. So, do you, Y/n Spector, swear to withhold the legacy of the moon, and promise to keep the stars shining bright?”
You hesitated, knowing what being an avatar had done to your father and Steven, but then their cold, dead body flashed through your mind, and your mothers sobbing face, and you hesitated no longer, “I do.”
With that, you felt a wind around you, not a harsh and cold one like when Khonshu had entered the room, but a slow and refreshing one.
It swept around you like you were at the center of a tornado, and when it stopped, you no longer stood in your busted up hiking boots and ratty old t-shirt and jeans.
You then stood in a flowing blue and purple one piece jumpsuit that had a golden sword sheathed at the side of your right leg.
The material against your skin was smooth and durable, which let you know that it would be easy to fight in.
How does it feel?
Mayari’s voice sung through your head, making you jump slightly.
“Uh-g-good… it feels good.” You quickly got over your initial shock when you remembered the reason you were there in the first place.
Good, now let’s not waste anymore time. Shall we?
“Shall we what-“ You cut yourself off with a small yelp as you felt your feet being lifted off the ground, “What the- Hey! What’s happening?” You fumbled around, trying to grab onto something while trying to stay balanced so you didn’t hit your head.
You heard her chuckle a little.
I’m a goddess, flying just so happens to be a perk.
You swallowed hard, “Right, yeah, of course.”
You heard her laugh again before you started moving forward while still in the air.
Now hang on.
-•-
Next thing you knew, you were zooming through the skys, over the city buildings of Cairo on your way to where you could only assume the fight was taking place.
In the distance you saw a very large crocodile and dead looking bird fighting near some pyramids, and you didn’t even have to think to know that it was Ammit and Khonshu, who must’ve tricked some other poor soul into being his avatar for him.
It looked weird enough to you, who knew about avatars and everything, so you could only imagine what it looked like to the rest of the world.
Are you ready for this?
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” You mumbled, clearly unsure of yourself.
You’ll do great, and I’ll be here the whole time if you need anything.
You allowed her to bring you closer and closer to the ground until your feet hit the pavement, and you stumbled a little while trying to regain your balance.
Taking a moment, you took in your surroundings to see what you were dealing with.
People where running around in complete chaos, with windows broken, cars flipped, and buildings on fire.
You saw a flash of purple out of the corner of your eye and quickly whipped around to see Aurthur pointing his staff at a mother, father, and daughter who all sat huddled in a bunch.
The parents were obviously trying to shield the screaming child from whatever the strange man was about to do to them while gripping onto each other tightly for comfort.
It was as if your brain switched off and was replaced with that of a warrior, which you later knew you could thank Mayari for.
You quickly unsheathed your sword and sprinted over to the group as fast as your feet would carry you, before jumping right in front of them just in time for Harrow to shoot out a beam of violet light.
His eyes widened in surprise as your golden sword caught the blast midair and sent it right back at him, sending him flying backwards a few feet before his head hit the pavement.
Only partially listening to Mayari’s words of praise, you turned back to the family after reshething your sword, “هل أنتم بخير؟” You asked hurriedly.
(Are you all okay?)
“أنت بطل خارقة!”
(You’re a superhero)
The little girl gasped in awe, staring at you with wide and adoring eyes, and all you could do was smile at her softly.
You took the next moment to reassure the parents that everything was fine as they sobbed and thanked you over and over again.
Once you saw them hurry away, you turned back to the spot Harrow was in, only to find him and his staff gone.
You cursed quietly before running through the streets, helping people along the way, and listening to your goddesses advice whenever she had any words of wisdom.
Just as you were helping an old lady out of a car, you heard your name being called in disbelief above all the other noises that the city had to offer that night.
You whipped around and froze in your place, suddenly feeling like you were back in that tomb.
Marc Spector pushed his way through the crowds as he came running as fast as he could towards you.
I thought Khonshu said he was dead?
You ignored Mayari’s curious voice, unable to comprehend it or anything else other than your father at that moment.
“D-dad?” You whispered out in disbelief.
“Oh, honey.” You could hear the relief in his voice as he quickly pulled you into his chest.
You gripped the back of his suit tightly, as if afraid if you let go then he would disappear once again.
For a long moment, the two of you rocked back and forth, him comforting you lovingly as you sobbed into his chest.
“The bullets- I saw- you were-“ you couldn’t even form a proper sentence.
He shushed you once again, “It’s okay, I’ll explain everything later. I promise.”
You were grateful that Mayari gave you two a moment together without her interrupting you or your father.
Gently, he pulled away but still held onto your shoulders, keeping you at arms distance as he studied you and your outfit, “What is this?”
You could tell by the way his eyes flooded with panic and horror that he already knew the answer, though.
“Dad-“
“No, no, no.” Marc shook his head in disbelief, dropping it down in defeat, “First your mother, and now you.”
You felt your heart drop, “Mom?”
He nodded painfully, “Layla became an avatar for Taweret.”
Before you could question him further though, his suit quickly changed into a very different one. One that you knew to be Stevens outfit.
“Oh my gosh! I can’t believe you’re Mayari’s avatar!” He gushed, “That’s so bloody cool! Oh poor old Marc had no idea who’s avatar you were, but I could tell from one glance that-“
He was cut off by you throwing yourself into his arms, “I’m so glad you’re okay, too.” You whispered into his ear.
After a moment, the two of you pulled away at the sound of the screaming of your name from nearby.
You and Steven both turned to see Layla angrily stomping towards the two of you, wearing an outfit you can only assume Taweret gave her.
“Yeah, no thanks.” Steven said, “You can handle this one, mate.”
And with that, his suit disappeared and was quickly replaced by Marc’s, “What- no, Steven! Hey!” He stuttered out, quickly stopping at his wife’s deadly glare.
“What are you doing here?” She seethed, glaring down at you, “You promised to stay in the hotel room! And what are you wear-“
She cut herself off with wide eyes, realizing what was happening.
“Oh no, honey. Why would you do that?” Her voice had softened slightly and she was referring to you becoming an avatar.
“You needed help.” You mumbled, looking at the ground with slight guilt, “If it makes you feel any better, it’s the goddess-“
“Mayari.” She finished in awe, “The one I used to tell you stories about.”
Aww, you used to listen to stories about little old me?
Your goddess teased you playfully.
Marc on the other hand, huffed and crossed his arms, “Why did everybody know who it was right away, but me?”
Before any of you could respond, you were all cut off with a shout coming from a couple feet away from all of you.
You all whipped around to see one of Arthur's followers charging at you with a gun, and Layla immediately pushed you behind her and put her wrists up, deflecting all of the bullets with her cuffs.
Marc then took action and quickly ran out from behind her and kicked the man in the face, making him drop to the ground.
Then Ammit’s followers were all around you.
All three of you fought back, trying your best to defend one another while trying to stay alive.
You unsheathed your sword and quickly got to work fending off the woman nearest to you while Mayari gave you helpful tips.
You noticed with glee that your parents both glanced at you every now and then in pride at seeing you handle your own.
But there were only three of you. Avatars or not.
You were all quickly outnumbered, and next thing you knew you were backed up against a wall, fighting the best you still could in your situation.
You glanced to the side to see your mother pinned up against a side of a car while your father glanced worriedly at the two of you and Aurthur was shouting something you couldn’t hear at him.
You knew they could handle themselves so you focused back on your own fight and after a few minute struggle, they were all down and you were no longer surrounded.
Turning back to see if your parents needed help, your eyes widened in shock at what you saw.
There were bodies of Harrow and Ammits followers scattered all over the place, and your parents stood above them looking around in confusion.
“That wasn’t you, Steven?” You heard your father ask in slight horror, but you knew he didn’t even have to ask. Of course it wasn’t kind, lovable Steven.
“Dad?” You called out hesitantly.
He quickly turned to face you, scanning you for any injuries, “Yeah?”
“What the hell was that?” Layla voiced your thoughts.
“I-I don’t know.” He admitted, “I blacked out.” He glanced between the two of you, “Are you two okay?”
You both nodded and he sighed in relief. And though you were all in the middle of the biggest fight of your lives, you all couldn’t help but be grateful.
Because you had each other, your little family. Just like it always had been.
