The 40: Catch the Bullet

I decided to bust out my drawing tablet and use Photoshop again to create a comic for The 40, and I will say...it's a start for me to brush up on my digital illustration skills.
Izuku has come a long way after his year-long intense training regiment compared to his Pre-Character Development self. But the most gracious physical feat he had performed that would make Bakugou jealous and All Might proud, was being able to catch a bullet fired from a revolver.
I was looking over Alan Moore's well-known comic, Watchmen, and was greatly interested in Ozymandias' character and the astonishing physical and mental feats he's able to perform after dedicating himself to training his mind and body by retracing the steps of Alexander the Great by traveling the world. The one thing that interests me about how he managed to become what he is, is through his interview in the second to last issue. Where Adrian firmly believes that anyone can do what he can achieve, as you need to have the belief and willpower to see it through.
And what do you know...Izuku manages to do the impossible after the many trials that await him in the year-long intense training regiment. Reacting immediately upon seeing an unknown assailant pull a revolver on him, and summoning all of his willpower and technique to time his catching of the bullet correctly. However, like with Ozymandias, Izuku's skin was damaged from the bullet due to the obvious friction from the speed it had. But it's still a great accomplishment compared to his pre-training self, as the bullet would've burst through his hand and killed him, never mind the idea that he could actually catch it.

Welcome!
Hello! This is my fanfiction recommendation blog. The fics in this blog were written by various authors from AO3, Quotev, and Tumblr. If you're looking for fics posted on Wattpad, please go to my Wattpad profile and check out my reading lists.
This blog isn't dedicated to any particular fandom, so don't be fooled by whatever my blog's current theme is. I post what I like. My main criterion to determine whether or not I post a fic here is whether or not I want to reread a fic someday. I'm a simple woman. (This blog is basically my library.)
Most of the fanfictions here are female reader or OC inserts. It's quite rare for me to post character/character fics because it's also rare for me to read character/character fics. Also, most, if not all, ships are straight. If they're supposed to be a gay ship, one of them is probably genderbent. Sorry. If that's not your cup of tea, you're free to click/tap away. About Me
Name: Mako 魔子
Trickmaster hero – Miss.Magician
Age: 18

Height: 5ft 7in
Quirk: Magician - Flame jumping,illusions, historical projections, damage transfer, steel card, air bullets, paper figurine substitutes, underwater breathing trick (more on my quirk here)
Physical abilities: incredible balance, coordination, flexibility and agility. Danger intuition.
Backstory: I literally just grew up in a happy family. Living rich and lavish. My dad is a retired top pro hero and my mom is an underground hero that works for the government. I have an older sister following in my mom’s footsteps and older brother whom is a researcher. My family often trains together and we do a lot of family activities together. I’ve been friends with Shinso since middle school and I was close with Shotō for like a year in elementary school. We’re literally twins with our heterophobia and dual color hair 👁️👅👁️.
My goal in this reality it literally to be my silliest, most autistic self. Literally me if I never started masking so people wouldn’t call me weird.
Plot (or the lack there of)
The war arc doesn’t happen. I’m not dealing with allat.
Bakugou doesn’t get kidnapped and faces appropriate consequences for his actions and behavior (I’m talking about him being a bully).
The other students quirks are stronger (I hate that Bakugou had it easy. I’m a purebred hater).
Momo was trained and is more skilled at using her quirk (she’s rich why didn’t her parents hire a trainer for her canonically?)
Tenko’s mom leaves with the grandparents and his sister before he goes out of control. He now attends UA.
OFA is still out there plotting I guess.
Mina and midoriya are blasian, and Sero is Latino because I said so.
UA is a university because why are them kids fighting?
Fusions (borrowed idea from priicklleshifts on tiktok).
Overhaul is good and works at UA in support heroes/medical.
Eri is not abused and has a decent relationship with Chisaki even though he is an overworking germaphobe.
UA Departments: Hero, Support (fashion, tech, etc), Business, Gen Ed.
Events like the sports festival only starts to happen at the second trimester (bc why tf did it happen on like the 2nd week of school?)
Japan
Due to its high safety and previously low birth rate, Japan now has many immigrants from all over
Super high tech I’m talking holographic screens, robots in the streets, virtual reality, etc
There’s a National and international tournament where schools compete to see who has the best upcoming heroes.

A spa on campus that is free for hero course students. They offer normal and medical massages, mud baths, meditation, sauna, steam room, lounge, ice fountain, treatment rooms and other beauty and wellness services (yes, I'm going to abuse this).
There is practically an extra little town on the mountain with the school due to all the school amenities and staff.
Massive library with study rooms n stuff.
Lots of school festivals, dances and other events.
Classes
There’s home room which is where you spend most of your time. We do gen Ed and hero law stuff with our home room.
Students can take any electives ranging from costume design to home ec, Solo training to costume engineering.
Students are encouraged to try out things through electives and clubs.
There are free lifestyle classes on weekends so you can take a quick class on cooking, sewing, gardening, first aid without the commitment or worry of grades.
Everyone gets a free holographic tablet thing for the schedule, note taking and to access the school app thing.
The app lets us access the dorms if we don’t have a physical I’d on us, order at the school restaurants with free delivery from the campus delivery bots. It’s just has a bunch of handy features.
Class 1A
Shinso replaces mineta.
There are also 5 exchange/international students in our class.
We go on a few international field trips throughout the year.
There’s a pool table and conversation pit in the dorm.
Merch
School spirit became a big thing with the influence of American immigrants and exchange students (America ya! :D).
UA has school jackets, shirts, jerseys, etc.
The gym uniforms come in different styles and lengths to suit the wearer.
Food
Instead of one lunchroom there are many dining halls around campus. If you’re a boarding student then food is free.
The restaurants have a certain numbers of items you can pick from to create a reasonable meal. Anything extra you have to pay for.
Some of the halls have larger portions or all-you-can-eat to accommodate for stunner quirks and different bodies.
Diverse food culture. (Indian, American, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican and other style foods)
There are mini break rooms around campus for students to relax,study or mingle between classes. They have free snacks (onigiri, chips, fruit, juice,etc).
There are self driving busses that drive students to the area in 10min max.
There’s also food trucks on campus (I am not being greedy. This is 100% necessary).

The Nature Trail

Bakugou walked the same route every day. Through the path in the woods over the creek and out to a slow street and small cluster of buildings that waited sleepily for him. It was a quiet trail that he walked daily. Occasionally he saw Mrs.Walters the sassy old woman who owned the bakery at the end of the trail with her dog, Mako. She would stop him from time to time to convince him to stop in to eat her baked goods. Sometimes she would ask him to do a task or two around the shop. And of course, there were others who walked when the weather was nice. But he walked the trail every day. Every day he walked rain or shine. No matter how hot or cold it was, Bakugou was outside walking the route at precisely noon.
He found comfort in the quiet trail leading into the small town. The contrast of trees and nature to the bustling city was just what he needed on his lunch breaks. Back in the city, he was pro-hero, Dynamite. But here on this quiet nature trail in the small quaint town, he was just a guy walking down the road.
The first time he saw you on his trail he didn’t pay much attention to you. You were walking with your eyes trained on the ground in front of you. You wore ankle boots, dress pants, and a white top with flowing sleeves. He assumed you were an office worker from one of the buildings at the end of the trail. Maybe you were having a bad day that’s why you refused to look up from the ground.
“Idiot, not paying attention to your surroundings.” Bakugou mentally chastised you as you walked by him in the opposite direction. And he didn’t give you a second thought.
That is until he saw you again the next day. Your eyes were still trained on the ground. And he almost felt bad for you. He nearly felt bad that you seemed so sad for some reason. Then, he reached the end of the trail and you were once again just a fleeting thought.
The top of your head floating towards him as you watched the ground and the swinging of your extra long cardigan trailing behind you was just a distant memory. It was a memory that lingered loosely in the back of his head until he saw you again the next day.
This would have been the first time since he started walking this trail a year ago that he saw the same person three days in a row. But this time you weren’t looking at the ground. Your chin was tilted up as you took in the sights of the trees and sky above you. For the first time, he saw your face as the spring sunlight hit it just right. He was almost unsure if you were even the right person. But years of hero training taught him to recognize small things like how someone walks. And he could tell your cadence. Plus, you were wearing the same ankle boots he had on the first time he saw you.
He took note of your face. You didn’t seem upset or stressed. You seemed peaceful taking in each leaf on every tree branch. As you drew closer to him your eyes flicked in his direction. It almost seemed like it was the first time you had even noticed him. You offered a small smile and nodded. Then you continued on.
Bakugou was thrown off for a second. He had created a short narrative in his head you were some sad office worker. But you smiled at him. You seemed happy and peaceful. Then, as he ended his trail your memory was once again fleeting. He didn’t anticipate seeing you the next day. It was going to rain and on those rainy days, he was the only one out on the trail.
He crossed the creek the next day as the rain battered down on top of his umbrella. He noticed how the rapid waters rushed under the bridge. It even made it shake just a tiny bit. He loved the rainy days. No one else was out. He could treat the trail as his own world. A world where he didn’t have to fight and he didn't have to be anyone else besides himself. Even though being the number one hero was what the ash blonde desired most, being able to just be himself meant a lot too.
As he stopped on the bridge to admire the water he saw something through the trees. A flash of pink coming from the trail? He watched, confused, as he waited to see if the pink flash would come around the bend and join him on the bridge.
And to his surprise it did. But to even more of his surprise it was you. You wore another long cardigan and a modest spring dress with god-awful rain boots. You carried a bright pink umbrella over your left shoulder. It was the ugliest and loudest thing he had ever seen.
You stopped when your e/c eyes met his red ones. The surprise on your face mirrored his. Then like some sort of magical creature your face softened you smiled and continued to walk past him.
And that night is when you wouldn’t leave his mind. Your face, your walk, your warm smile, those awful boots they took residence in the forefront of his mind no matter how hard he tried to evict you.
He sat on his couch that evening staring at the TV as it played in the background of his thoughts.
Who were you? Was Bakugou working too hard? We’re you just a figment of his imagination? Who in their right mind would be walking around in the rain carrying a bright-ass umbrella?
Then his eyes glanced to the Dynamite Orange umbrella by the front door. That didn’t count. Mina has him that umbrella as a gift it would have been stupid to buy a different one when there was a perfectly good one right there.
As his thoughts consumed him he finally concluded that you probably weren’t going to be there tomorrow. Why would you? Why were you walking the same path as him every day all of a sudden?
Well, he was right. You weren’t there on Saturday and you weren’t there on Sunday. He felt relief at first. You were gone. The confusing phantom that consumed his mind was gone. However, when Monday rolled around a bit of anxiety filled him. Where were you? We’re you sick? Did you get into an accident? Would he ever see you again?
But as he walked down his path with his eyes extra sharp for any sign of you, he felt another wave of relief flood him as he saw you walk down the path once again. Today you wore a black pencil skirt, a fitted black top, and bright red heels on your walk.
You smiled at him and nodded. Then you continued on like normal.
That lasted every day for months. Monday to Friday he saw you walk along the path. Even as the months turned scorching hot you continued to walk down the path and greet him daily. He watched as you approached him each day. Some days staring at the sky, others you stared at the ground. However, you were never too enthralled to smile and give him a quiet hello. On the weekends he missed you. He wondered where you were. He found himself hoping you would show up on a weekend just to surprise him. He found his midday walks meant even more to him as he anticipated seeing you each and every day.
The days he saw you in the rain were his favorites though. You walked with your pink umbrella and him with his orange and he knew you could spot each other miles away. The drab days were filled with the light of your sparkling smile. The trail was barren except for you two and that to him was the best. He felt like the two of you were in your own world.
It was another day in his magical path. He saw a few joggers as their feet crunched the fall leaves. He came over the creek and around the bend. And there you were as always wearing a stylish outfit. Only today you weren’t walking. You were standing by a tree. You glared up at the expansive structure and your hand rested easily on its bark. Your mouth hung open slightly as you looked at it. You were in awe.
You hadn’t noticed Bakugou yet. Your wonder lust stopped him in his tracks. He no longer felt surprised when he saw you, but watching you run your hands over the tree like it was the first time you even noticed the damn thing made him stop. Again, he wondered just who the heck you were.
He crept closer to you and that’s when you saw him. You turned your head and have him the same smile you had been giving him for months.
“Hi,” you mouthed and then turned back to the tree.
He was still frozen and awestruck by your childlike wonder. He was also so confused about how someone could just be so blissfully lost in something. In a world where everyone around him was always on high alert, your relaxed demeanor was different. It was refreshing, to say the least.
Before he knew he was even moving he was by your side. He looked up at the tree and wondered what you were even looking at. He saw only a bare tree. Something so naked, vulnerable, and bare didn’t seem like something worthy of your wonder.
“What are you doing?” He grunted. You broke your gaze from the tree again. You looked up at him with your mouth agape. You didn’t seem to know how to respond.
“I just…I like the trees.” Your answer was so simple it surprised him again.
“But this tree is bare,” He replied. He squinted harder up at the tree maybe there was something in its empty branches he didn’t see.
“Yeah, but sometimes things are the most beautiful when they’re dying. This tree is vulnerable right now, so bare, so…so…”
“ So real.”
“Yeah… it’s real,” You let that word settle on your tongue for a moment before turning to Bakugou and offering him another one of your warm smiles. “I’m y/n by the way.” You dusted off your hands and extended one out to him.
“Bakugou Katsuki.” He took your hand and gently shook it. He reveled in stark contrast of your soft hands to his scarred ones.
“We’ve passed each other so many times. I feel like we’re old friends!” You laughed.
“Yeah something like that,” He muttered. “Shouldn’t be walking around by yourself in the woods all the time,” He chastised.
Your face fell into a bit of shock. “Thanks,” You muttered then looked back up at the tree you were so enthralled with. “It's nice that people care. I appreciate it, Bakugou.” You looked back to him then at your watch. “Oh! I need to continue my walk if I’m going to finish and be back in time! It was nice meeting you Bakugou Katsuki. I’ll see you tomorrow!” You smiled another warm smile at him and continued on the path in his opposite direction.
He watched you as you walked away. He couldn’t believe you. Did you thank him after he chastised you? Were you truly so sweet, naive and so irresistible all at the same time? And as he thought of all the questions he had about you all he could truly think of was your last words.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow…” He muttered. Were you thinking about him too? Did you look forward to seeing him every day too?
As he reached the familiar opening leading to the street he spotted Ms. Walter outside the bakery waving at him happily.
Bakugou grunted and bid her the usual nod. However, she didn’t smile and continued on with her day like normal. Today she waved him over.
“Come on over, Boy! I need some help getting ingredients up from the basement. Do you think you can help me?” She smiled up at him and unfortunately for Bakugou no matter what the hero tabloids said or what the rumors were Bakugou was actually a big sweetheart. He couldn’t tell anyone in help ‘no.’
“Tch! I can get your ingredients up in two minutes flat! No problem!” He boasted. No one said he would do it humbly or without complaining.
“Ah! Yes a big strong man,” She smiled to herself and led Bakugou to the basement of the small bakery shop.
About 20 minutes later he finally laid the last bag of flour on the counter. It wasn’t that there were so many ingredients but before long Mrs. Walters was asking him to change lightbulbs and reach things that were too high up for her.
“Thank you again, Bakugou! Are you sure you don’t want any of these muffins? They’re fresh!” Mrs. Walters held up a plate of fresh baked blueberry muffins right under Bakugou’s nose.
“Man, you don’t like no for an answer do you, Granny? I’m a pro hero I don’t put that in my body. Plus, you needed someone to help ya out 'cause you’re so fragile,” He teased and pushed the muffins back toward her.
“Fragile?! I’ll tell you Mr. Bakugou! I am so healthy I’ll live to be 200!” Mrs. Walters shook off his harsh demeanor. Bakugou smiled to himself. He liked the old lady. Even if she was annoying and asking him for help.
As he stood outside of the shop bidding goodbye to Mrs. Walters he looked at the office building across the street. That’s when he saw you. You were slipping into the side door.
“Ah, yes, Y/n. She’s a sweet girl. She works at that office there.” Mrs. Walters nudged him and gave a knowing smile.
“What?! Why would I care?” He grunted at her and shook off her nudge.
She rolled her eyes at him and shook her head. Knowing full well that Bakugou was smitten with you.
The next day Bakugou decided he would wait for you. He didn’t want you to walk alone anymore because you know it was dangerous.
He waited by the door he saw you enter the day before. He hoped you wouldn’t run screaming. He hoped you would smile another warm smile at him.
Just a few minutes after 12 the office door opened and out you came.
“Ah!” You jumped in surprise when you saw Bakugou’s hulking figure leaning against the building. “Bakugou! What are you doing here?”
He smirked and offered his elbow. “I told you that you shouldn’t be walking the woods by yourself!” He poked your forehead as you took his elbow and you began your walk.
Thus every day you met him for your daily walks. He still missed you on the weekends, but it made him look forward to Mondays even more. He learned everything about you as you rambled by his side each day.
“Why do you always look at the ground?” He questioned one day as he watched you focus on the ground.
“It’s so gorgeous. Every pebble, every grain of sand, every blade of grass, it's just gorgeous.”
“Gorgeous huh?” He questioned and started looking at the ground. “Arentchya afraid you’re gonna fall? Or someone is going to jump you?”
You shrugged. “I guess that’s a fear. I just don’t want to miss the little things.” You looked up at the sky and Bakugou felt it. He felt himself start to fall for you. He didn’t want to just see you for an hour every day. He didn’t want to see you just on this trail anymore. “What do you fear, Bakugou?” You always used his name. It was like a weapon a double-edged sword. Hearing his name fall off your tongue excited him, however, the fact you didn’t use his first name yet cut him to the core. He had grown close to you and yet was still so far.
“Fear? Tch! I'm a pro hero! I don’t fear anything!” He retorted.
You stopped walking suddenly. Your arm looped into his tightened just a bit as you looked at him with shock. Your e/c were wide and you just stared blankly at him for a moment.
“Bakugou, you’re a pro hero?”
Wait, had he forgotten to tell you? Had he not told you the first thing about him? He was so caught up in telling you about his favorite foods and childhood memories that he didn’t even think to tell you he was a pro hero.
“Uh yeah…I am. Don’t you watch the news?”
“No…not really. I just get highlights on my news feed to stay informed. But the news can be dark.” You chewed on your lower lip. “I’m quirkless. And ya know society just loves quirks and heroes. And I’m just…I’m useless…”
It was Bakugou’s turn to stop and look at you in shock.
“Who the fuck told you that you’re useless?!” He growled.
“Oh uh no one…but I’m just in the way. And a bit of an airhead. So ya know I'm just not…special.”
Your words hung in the air. To Bakugou you are the most special person he had ever met. You weren’t an airhead per se. You were a dreamer and you marveled at the beauty of the word. You certainly weren’t useless.
However, he didn’t know how to say all that so instead he settled for, “Well cut that shit out it’s not true!”
You blushed and giggled. Your hand landed on his bicep once more and gave it a little squeeze. “Thank you,” Your voice was barely above a whisper as you began your walk again. The feeling in the air was thick and again Bakugou wasn’t sure how to dissipate it so he opted for his next best question.
“So you don’t know any pro heroes?” He questioned.
“Well,” suddenly you blushed deep red before continuing, “I know pro hero Deku!”
Of course! Of course, you knew stupid shitty Deku.
“Hah?!? You know Deku and you don’t know me?!” His garnet eyes widen. “Well, sweetheart you’ll remember me one cause I’m gong to be number one!”
“Funny that’s what Deku says,” Your voice trails off and you’re walking again.
“Hah?!” Bakugou is confused. You talk as if you know Midoriya.
“Don’t worry about it. But Bakugou,” You started as you kept your eyes trained on the ground. It wasn’t the same way you looked at the ground normally. He couldn’t find your curiosity or happiness in your eyes. He found fear in them. “Please,” You looked up at him and your eyes were full of concern, concern for him. Something he never saw from your easygoing demeanor. “Just be careful.”
He felt his chest tighten. And that night he couldn’t sleep.
His stupid heart swirled with all these feelings and his even stupider mind kept coming up with reasons not to act.
You smiled at him every day. You walked alongside him and clung to his arm. Your gentle touches along his bicep as he told a story that enthralled you. The way you would squeeze his arm extra tight when you told him about something that excited you.
But was he wrong did he miss read you? Were you just a friendly face to everyone? But why did you make his heart sing? Could you do that if the feelings weren’t mutual?
WAIT! He still barely knows you. But that’s all he wanted. All he wanted was to know you better though.
So, today was the day. He would walk with you and then he would ask you on a date. Off the trail. Somewhere romantic like in those gushy films Mina always made him watch.
He stood by the door like he always did but a few minutes past noon went by. Then ten minutes went by and then twenty. He didn’t understand. Where were you? Were you sick? Then his mind started racing. Were you hurt? Were you just avoiding him?
He decided to go into the office maybe you just got caught up in your work and didn’t realize what time it was. That’s when he heard you. He heard your voice. He heard your happy squeak he looked up at the beginning of the path. There you stood your hand hanging over your mouth in surprise and in front of you was a certain green-haired idiot down on one knee.
“Of course! Of course, I’ll marry you Izuku!” You cheered and launched yourself into his arms.
Bakugou couldn’t move his feet. He couldn’t even think straight. What was even happening? Why was the stupid nerd even here? Why didn’t you tell him you not only knew Deku you were dating Deku?
He watched as Midoriya lifted you off your feet and swung you around happily. Bile crept up his throat and threatened to drown him when he saw him kiss you.
Even in your delirious happy haze you opened your eyes and saw Bakugou over Izuku's shoulder. And even in a state that Bakugou could only describe as betrayal, you smiled warmly at him and his heart clenched. It reached out for you but you were already in someone else’s arms.
“Bakugou!” You called out to him as you sprang from Midoriya’s arms and ran over to him and threw your arms around his neck. You were so happy so excited that he couldn’t help but feel a little happy for you too through his shattered hopes.
“Kacchan!” Midoriya approached his old revival and gently peeled you from him.
“Deku…” He acknowledged the other hero. He didn’t have much else to say as he watched the green-haired nerd wrap a large arm around you. “I uh I didn’t know you were…um…” Bakugou gestured towards the two of you.
“Oh right! Im sorry for not telling you when we first met. Izuku doesn’t like me telling people-“
“It’s safer for her,” Midoriya cut you off. “She’s quirkless and ya know a little bit of an airhead.” He chuckled and poked your cheek. You winced just a tad at his jab but then put on another smile that didn’t quite reach your eyes. Maybe if Bakugou wasn’t in a world of hurt he would have noticed your flinch. Or maybe he would have seen the way you stood behind Deku as if you were hiding. But in the state, he felt all his years of hero training were gone right out the window.
“Last night when I got home I told Izuku that the friend I had made on the trail was a pro-hero too! I couldn’t believe you guys grew up together! And-”
“That’s right, Bunny.” He cut you off again. This time it irritated Bakugou.
Bunny? Fucking Bunny? That’s what he called you?
“And Kacchan used to be a bully. Nice to know he’s calmed down a bit. She talks about her silly little trail walks all the time. So I knew I would have to propose to her here.” Midoriya smiled this award-winning smile at Bakugou. The same one that always made his skin crawl. It never seemed sincere to him and this time even less so.
“Izuku!” You squealed and slapped her fiancé's arm. “It’s not silly! It’s magical!”
“Funny how quirkless people think anything is ‘magical’ huh?” Midoriya chuckled and patted your hand.
Again, Bakugou missed how hurt flashed across your face. Yet, he didn’t miss how condescending Deku had become as he climbed the hero ranks. It almost reminded him of his younger self.
“That’s a little harsh coming from the shitty nerd who didn’t have a quirk at first either!” Bakugou quipped at his old revival. Fear littered your face as you looked up at your new fiance. Were you afraid of something?
“Ahem. Well, that isn’t the case anymore now is it?” Deku concealed the anger that boiled in him. He never enjoyed it when people reminded him of his quirkless years. “We should be going! I already stole her for an early lunch.”
“Well, I guess I’ll leave you two alone. Uh congrats again,” Bakugou began to walk past you towards the trail. He stopped and looked into your usually warm eyes. Today there was something in them he couldn’t quite place. You opened your mouth as if you wanted to say something, but words didn’t form. He gave a slight nod and then continued on the path.
He walked down the path and found the tree that he caught you staring at so many months before. It was just sprouting new leaves, as spring crawled into season. He let his hand touch the bark just the way you had.
“I guess I didn’t really know her at all,” she spoke quietly to himself. As he said those words he stared up at the expansive tree taking in the beauty you showed him through all your time together. Even though he told himself maybe he didn’t know you he couldn’t fight the feeling that he knew you better than anyone.
