anyway, my favorite thing from the LOTR books that isn't in the movies is the hobbit conspirators!

there's something i love about how frodo spends like three chapters feeling super alone and afraid but then it turns out he was never actually alone bc his friends knew about the ring and were trying to help him from a distance. and that they're planning to come with him, despite being terrified themselves.

im also a certified merry and pippin appreciator and i much prefer the book version of how the two of them join the quest. in the movies they really have no idea what's happening and only wind up involved because they literally run frodo over and then got attacked by the nazgûl. the book gives them more agency in that decision, which i think makes their character arcs more meaningful. the book version also shows their individual character traits better from the start (merry's intelligence, pippin's optimism, etc) rather than just showing them as a duo.

I don’t fucking care and why should you. Actually that’s a bit of a lie, bestie you could have gone ham with giving the black elves long braids with gold woven into them and the dwarven woman a sick beard with ornaments woven into it but you didn’t and I’m a bit mad about that.
