Themed Rec List | Tomarrymort Recs by Horcrux ⚡👑🏆🔒💍
I wanted to put together a rec list of Harry/Tom fics with a core focus on horcruxes outside of Diary Tom (the most popular horcrux) and Voldemort himself. Please enjoy these 22 fics that feature one of Tom's horcruxes and their special relationship with Harry.
There’s a ton of interesting variation that can be explored within a Harry and horcrux Tom ship — from where the horcruxes are located and when Harry can conceivably meet them in canon (for example, the Cup horcrux is harder to access than the others); to what age they were made by Voldemort and how that would shape their personalities and interactions with Harry; to the different magical properties that they might embody, depending on the vessel that was chosen.
Finally, it looks like Scarcrux and Locket are the most popular choices (after Diary Tom), and we absolutely need more Cup horcrux fics!
*
⚡ Scarcrux
Amensalism by @cindle-writes (E, 6k, complete)
Scarcrux becomes sentient after the encounter in the Ministry in Harry's 5th year and takes Harry for an adventure.
Bolide by @vdoshu (T, 3k, complete)
On October 31, 1981, a tiny piece of soul attaches himself to Harry Potter in order to survive. This is his story.
Creatures of the Dark we are by @hikarimeroperiddle (M, 28k, complete)
Banished to his cupboard at age 4, Harry learns to listen only to the Voice in his head. Its teachings warp all Harry could have become until no more than dark magic and devotion remains. Visions of a wraith with red eyes complicate matters, especially when Harry and the Voice follow it to Hogwarts so Master can get his hands on the Philosopher’s stone.
Eulogy by @meles-merrivale (E, 6k, complete)
You run through the things you have to do for the day. It is, admittedly, a very short list. Wake up. Be clean. Be ready. An empty life, some might call it. You don’t. It is the life He has given you, and so it is what you deserve.
last rites by @cindle-writes (E, 5k, complete)
Harry has an hour before he walks to his death in the Forbidden Forest. The horcrux in Harry’s scar decides to take matters into its own hands.
Look at me. by @crowcrowcrowthing (M, 1k, complete)
A dark night of the soul.
Pitch Black by @kagariasuha (E, 2k, complete)
The proximity of Horcruxes can influence anyone - especially Harry.
sandpaper kisses, paper cut bliss by @xodahafez (E, 27k, WIP)
Harry Potter survives the Killing Curse, but so does the horcrux within him. And this horcrux has been dangerously infatuated with Harry for seventeen years.
saw you in a dream by @duplicitywrites (E, 2k, complete)
Harry has had this dream before.
*
👑 Diadem
A peculiar way of fitting together by @being-luminous (T, 2k, complete)
“Aren’t you going to ask me why I’m wearing a diadem?”
Dance Me On and On by @duplicitywrites (E, 19k, complete)
In his first year at Hogwarts, Harry overhears Quirrell interrogating Binns about an artifact from over a thousand years ago. Five years later, Harry uncovers Rowena Ravenclaw's Diadem in the Room of Requirement and finds himself pulled into a kingdom in the throes of a mysterious masquerade ball.
In Just a Moment, You’ll Be Mine by @dividawrites (E, 34k, WIP)
Tom has been stuck inside the Ravenclaw's Diadem for decades, alone, with nothing but his slowly fading memories. One day he feels a pull towards someone and gets interested. And then he gets obsessed.
Death is not an Escape by @whitepinkdandelions (T, 2k, complete)
The Lost Diadem of Ravenclaw is full of endless wisdom, so it only makes sense that it gets its hooks into Harry much faster than the rest of them.
*
🏆 Cup
Thirst by @obsidianpen (E, 27k, complete)
Things go awry when the trio beaks into Gringotts. Harry finds himself trapped, locked in the Lestrange vault, wandless and alone... With a horcrux.
*
🔒 Locket
Arson by @rudehellion (M, 8k, complete)
The hunt for Voldemort's Horcruxes is going poorly. In need of some space to think, Harry offers to take the first watch over camp and slips out into the snowy night. Unable to shake his dark thoughts, Harry finds himself drifting and he begins to dream. What he sees changes everything.
knock it off (part 1) / crave gets slaked (part 2) by @theonceandfuturequeenoftarts (E, 6k, complete)
At some point during Harry's time with the Dursleys, pain got crossed with affection. A kick from Dudley or having his arm yanked by Uncle Vernon at least means they’re acknowledging his existence. It’s not love, but it’s something. Too bad for Harry he carries that through to his less dysfunctional relationships.
The Cost by Blood_Stained_Fingers (M, 8k, complete)
The cost of making a horcrux was steep and when Voldemort manages to kill Harry, destroying the horcrux within, Harry finds out the exact price of losing a piece of your soul. It made a cruel joke that if Voldemort loved his horcruxes, Harry should love them too.
The Dead of Night by @cybrid (E, 6k, complete)
An empty house. A glint of gold. A dream. Or: running away from Privet Drive goes terribly for Harry.
The Ties That Bind by @mosiva (E, 8k, complete)
Harry finds the locket at Grimmauld Place, but it has a curse laid on it. When Harry triggers it, he finds himself trapped with the locket version of Tom Riddle, both of them stuck within the enchantment until they can find the way out. Or so Harry thinks.
Whole by Emriel (E, 20k, complete)
The horcrux hunt goes wrong and Harry fails to destroy the locket horcrux. Tom Riddle hands him over to the Dark Lord as a present for they know he holds part of their soul. In their care, Harry learns that feelings, no matter how toxic, are hard to get rid off.
*
💍 Ring
Personal Assistant by @phantomato (E, 10k, complete)
“And that’s it? I call ‘Tom’ and you show up?” “Yes,” Tom answers.
shelter from the storm by @cindle-writes, @duplicitywrites (E, 7k, complete)
After being left behind by the Dursleys, Harry stumbles upon an empty shack in the middle of nowhere, where he finds a mysterious ring underneath the loose floorboards.

I have a guilty pleasure of reading Jegulus fics. Despite I shouldn't because of reasons-
#1 They are repetitive in their characterization. James is never shown as canon James that is cruel, arrogant and intelligent. Regulus is changed to diluted version of Sirius but with some self preservation because the dude went to Slytherin.
#2 I am majorly into Prongsfoot (obviously into romantic James and sirius for all those requiring clarification). So I feel like I am cheating on my babies for reading this fic where james is with sirius's brother.
# I hate wolfstar and Lupin with a passion. And if you had read a Jegulus fic, you will know that that pairing doesn't comes without wolfstar. Like ever. Ever. So, even though I have to suffer through this painful thing, I read it.
Why?
Because of the drama available there. Obviously. You get fluff. You get black brothers, you get strong women characters, you get different tropes and what's ifs, you get an ending where first war has better result as compared to canon.
But I hate it too because -
#1 James will never even look towards Regulus when he has the better black brother sirius right in front of him 24*7
#2 Sirius will never give a damm about remus when James is right in front of him for 24*7
#3 These fics forget that besides from the Wizarding war being about blood purity, it was also about dark wizards fighting for their rights. And Regulus black was a dark wizard. So okay maybe he does not want to be killing people for their status but if he also didn't want to be a dark wizard then you are making him sound like a very disfigured imitation of sirius but only more coward version who is a spineless, worthless follower.
I mean let the dude be a person who does not give a damm about whether other people are killed for their blood as long as he and his people are safe. Let him practice dark magic because he is a proud dark wizard unlike sirius who is a closeted dark wizard and has to hide his affinity to that part of magic just to fit with his friends.
#4 Every single Jegulus fic shows walburga and orion as physically and emotionally abusive parents. When I think it was never the case. I believe that with war on the horizon and with strong personalities, sirius and walburga clashed all the time because of their belief system. Walburga distanced herself when she felt that sirius was lost case and started focusing on Regulus who up until the point was not paid much attention.
Regulus was too happy to make his parents pay him attention, became even more malleable to their belief system in search of that affection while sirius thought that nothing he could do would be any better than Regulus so why try. He was jealous of his own brother. Like any normal child he resented his brother for getting his parents love. It was crystal clear in ootp if people dared to pay attention. {No but we were all busy paying attention to that brotherly hug in poa to have any brain cell remaining to pay attention to other books. Lol}
Why the reasons for sirius running away need to be exaggerated. Look around yourself. Have seen some parent child relationship in which there is no abuse involved, but still miscommunication, expectation, circumstances and belief were the reason of their estrangement.
#5 That point where you are reading form Regulus's pov and he has these abandonment issues because of sirius leaving him alone and not taking him away too and you feel for the guy because he is laying his heart out for his audience to see how much he suffered. He blames sirius and James. I feel that bullshit. First of all I think that Regulus was supper happy that he got to be having the sole attention of his parents. Again my version of his parents were not abusive people just two people who didnt know a thing about parenting. The guy was Slytherin, he liked winning. But he was also hurt by his parents still not being as concerned about him like they are of sirius, even when he is disowned. He hated his brother for having that concern in his parents' mind even now. He wanted to be better. He wanted to make them forget that sirius ever existed. He overcompensates by joining DE, he was not forced. He wanted to be make them pleasantly surprised when walburga never wanted that of her sons. She just wanted them to be bigots like her.
She absolutely despised the idea of her youngest bowing to someone. When Blacks are supposed to be the topmost. Practical royalty.
Regulus when he found out that his parents are in fact not happy with his decision, felt betrayed first and then lost. When he got the actual reality of death eating business, it was too late and he felt that he had no one in his corner. His only friends were all DE and quite happy in it. His parents were silently disappointed.
So when he found out about horcrux. He thought that he can make it upto his parents. But also he did not want to seek their help in his embarrassment. So he seeked to do it by himself and met his tragic end. Also I head canon that he could have fought to survive but his will to survive was lost because he felt adrift with no one to confide the complexities of his life, he felt alone. And he accepted death quite quickly with a relief because he was lonely in the world full of opinionated people.
So the bottom line is that I read Jegulus and then I hate myself for reading it. Because it is bullshit. But it has drama. And fanfics are their to entertain us even if it makes me pull my hair out and gauge own eyes.

“On three,” said Harry, looking back down at the locket and narrowing his eyes, concentrating on the letter S, imagining a serpent, while the contents of the locket rattled like a trapped cockroach. It would have been easy to pity it, except that the cut around Harry’s neck still burned.
Wow. Wow. So if Locket wouldn't have just tried to murder Harry, Harry would have pitied it and not wanted to kill it?

But if either of us is to survive the coming weeks, we must work together.”

Prompt 28 - Skinny Dip
@jegulus-microfic March 28 Word count 1058
Previous part First part
Regulus woke with his legs tangled with James’s. He’d left a note for his parents telling them they’d had a lead in the assignment Voldemort had given them. In fact, he was certain that Remus was extremely close to their quarry.
James stirred. He pulled Regulus closer to his body and buried his face in his chest.
“Mmmmm, I could get used to this.” He peppered kisses all over Regulus’s chest. Regulus didn’t put up any fight, enjoying the moment far too much.
“Come on. We’d better get up. We have a lot to do today.” He pulled away from James and stretched his whole body, which just brought James right back to him. “James, get off. We have to go.” He giggled as James snuffled into his hair.
“No, don’t want to. I’m just gonna keep you here in this bed with me.”
A loud banging at the door soon stopped them.
“Come on, love birds. We’ve got priceless heirlooms to destroy.” Evan called as he banged on Sirius and Remus’s door and his sisters.
It took a while for all of the Thestrals to gather that morning. But eventually, they were apparating into the caves outside of Hogsmeade.
They followed the Gryffindors into the forest as they knew where they were going. It had made more sense to go together this way than to walk up to Hagrid’s cabin, seeing as how they’d all ended up at Evan’s last night.
Regulus held the small chest tightly in his arms. He wasn’t about to lose them now, not after everything they’d been through to get them.
It took less than an hour to get to the part of the forest the Marauders wanted to use. They stopped in an almost perfectly round clearing. You could feel the magic thrumming through the area. It was ancient and swirled around them. Regulus placed the chest in the centre of the grassy circle and unlocked it. The ancient magic reacted to the dark magic within. It became hostile. The forest around them darkened, blocking out what little light there was.
Remus stepped forward, pressing his hands against one of the trees that lined the clearing. Regulus stared in awe as the magic slowly backed off and formed a protective barrier between them and the rest of the forest.
Remus smiled as he took his hands away from the tree.
“Thank you.” He whispered.
“What was that?” Lily asked the question the others must have been thinking. Well, Regulus, Barty and Evan. Everyone else didn’t seem so shocked.
“Werewolf,” Remus shrugged. “I’m more in tune with the natural magics than most. The forest knows what we have, and it isn’t happy. I told it we have come to destroy them, so the forest is going to keep us contained in here until the Horcruxes are all gone. So please don’t try and pass the border, or you’ll be sorry.” He looked pointedly at Barty when he said the last part.
Regulus tuned out whatever Barty had replied. He took the Gaunt ring out of the box and laid it on the grass.
“Are you ready then?” He asked. They immediately formed a circle around him and watched as Regulus poured Basilisk venom from one of the vials onto it.
A thick black liquid oozed out of it, and a blood-curdling scream. They all ducked for cover, pressing their hands to their ears. But nothing happened. When they looked back, all that was left of the ring was a twisted mass of blackened metal and the stone. Regulus cast a few spells over it.
“The Horcrux is gone, but I don’t understand why the venom didn’t destroy the stone.” He handed it to James to take care of while he set up the next Horcrux. They could deal with that later.
Next up was the diary. It reacted much the same as the ring had. There was, however, a lot more of the inky liquid seeping out, as though the notebook had been filled with writing that they just hadn’t been able to see.
Regulus was glad they’d managed to gather as much Basilisk venom as they had, as it looked like they’d be using most, if not all, of it.
Hufflepuffs cup twisted and melted into an unrecognisable blob, the fragment of soul shattering and dissolving into nothing.
He held the diadem in his hands. It was truly beautiful he didn’t want to destroy it. But for the sake of the wizarding world, he had to.
More Basilisk venom dropped onto the delicate tiara, and it spilt and cracked into three pieces before it melted as the wailing scream pierced their ears again.
Regulus reached into the chest and took out the last Horcrux. The Locket. He placed it on the ground and looked at his friends, who stood around him in a loose circle, pointing their wands at the Horcrux.
“Last one. Are we ready?” They nodded, and he raised the final vial of venom. But before he could let a single drop fall, the locket opened, and his mother appeared before him. He stumbled backwards, somehow managing not to spill the venom.
Walburga sneered at him. Her mouth opened, and Regulus knew whatever she was about to say would devastate him.
Sirius blocked his view, grabbing the vial and pouring the entire thing into the open locket.
“Piss off you evil bitch!” He snarled. Walburga screamed in a vortex of black smoke before vanishing into nothing. The locket was gone. Obliterated by the amount of venom poured on it.
They’d done it. All the Horcruxes were gone. Shakily, he got to his feet and was barrelled over by his friends as they all whooped and cheered in triumph.
The forest’s magic let them pass, now happier. It pressed close, almost like a hug, before releasing them.
They came upon a stream that fed a large pool of water as they walked back to the edge of the forest.
“Well, I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m going to skinny dip in that pool!” Barty cried as he vanished his clothes and dove into the clear water. “Come on, it’s refreshing, especially after that madness.” He jabbed his thumb back towards the clearing. The others looked at each other and, after a collective shrug, joined Barty in the pool.

Hear me out
12yo Harry writing to Tom in the diary at night, finding comfort in him and telling him all about his time at Hogwarts. Tom learning about Harry and finding, to his displeasure, that he's becoming attached. Harry goes to Tom when he's frustrated and sad, Tom is always there when Harry needs him.
Harry begging Tom to help him save Ginny when he gets to the chamber. Tom's expression twisting with just the slightest amount of guilt before it smooths over again. Harry feeling guilty throughout the entire fight.
Harry looking up at Tom and whispering "I'm sorry" right before he stabs the diary with the fang. Harry crying as Tom disappears, crying as he leaves the chamber, crying as he glances back and wishes it could have gone another way. Harry crying but refusing to tell the adults why because Tom made it clear to him that no one else would think Tom could be saved.
Harry pushing the guilt away and away in his mind for years as he goes through Hogwarts, unable to reconcile Dark Lord Voldemort with the image of Tom Riddle.
Harry getting the locket from Kreacher and opting to wear it most because it affects him the least. Or at least, that's what he tells Ron and Hermione.
Harry wears it because when he puts it on, it feels like a missing piece of him slides back into place.

You're so right... why the hell DID the locket say "I have seen your heart, and it is mine." ??? Deeply insane thing for Voldemort to be saying to Ron!
ron's clearly not the only one who's been flicking through twelve fail-safe ways to charm witches.

Anyone else have a deep set fear that what they write is accidentally gonna be the same as smth else
Like believe it or not I haven't read/finished every popular fic in the fandom (I like to pace myself with long fics so I read a chapter or two when I'm in the mood for the specific yk? Makes it last longer and feel more exciting) but there are some with vaguely similar ideas and I'm scared of comments telling me I've copied someone else
And I'm gonna have no idea what they're talking about but suddenly I look like an evil thief 😭
It's so irrational but it terrifying

trick or treat 👻
Delphini lingers at the edge of the kitchen in 12 Grimmauld Place.
She's listening.
The ringing had been bothering her for weeks now, every time she's back to their home in London she hears it. Almost like something is calling to her, beckoning.
The ringing grew louder and louder until it was impossible for her to ignore, screaming like a banshee.
It isn't exactly strange. There have been several objects throughout the Black households that Delphini had felt a pull towards. Grandfather often explained that it was likely due to the connection between mother and daughter; that their estates were full of Bella's magic, the sheer force of it imprinted on various objects.
The young witch circles the kitchen, fingers nails tapping along the marble counters as she follows the ringing towards the pantry.
“Kreacher!” The elf appears beside her in a snap, a small broom in hand.
“Yes, Mistress Delphini?” Kreacher starts with a smile, beady eyes look up at her adoringly. Delphi can hardly drag her gaze away from the small door across the pantry, her magic far too enchanted with whatever rests inside.
“What have you got in there?” Her voice is high-pitched, curious.
Kreacher hesitates, either unsure what Delphini is asking or just reluctant to answer.
“Mistress Delphi?”
“Open it.” She demands, arms crossing. “Now.”
With a snap of the elf’s fingers the door creaks open. Delphini takes one large step forward, peeking into the dark cupboard curiously. There's a large array of rags neatly folded along the floor and a smaller piles of artifacts placed carefully beside it. Delphini falls to her knees, hands quickly reaching to search through the items.
“Can Kreacher help Miss Delphini find something?” The elf seems nervous, as though she were about to reprimand him for his petty theft. Delphini doesn't answer, ripping through different objects in search of the ringing, of the pull. She tosses aside a pair of her great-Uncle’s cufflinks, a cup of silver branded with the Black family crest, a worn Slytherin tie, then comes the photographs.
Her Uncle Orion and Grandfather look so alike in their younger days. If there were just a few less years between them they could almost pass for twins. There is a third Black in this picture that Delphini does not recognize, he covers both of their faces jokingly with each flash of the camera.
Walburga and Lucretia stare up at her, each with an equally menacing glare before slowly glancing at each other and winking.
She almost doesn’t recognize the Black sister’s at first, having thought the swaying image of her mother looking up at her was actually herself. Delphini pauses, leaning back on her heels to take in the photo with more interest.
Auntie Cissa looks so small, she’s sitting in the lap of the one girl that is unfamiliar to Delphini. She knows who she is, of course, has heard the story in all of the limited words Grandfather can manage. Andromeda is seated in a wooden chair, Narcissa propped and leaning to the side. Bellatrix stands behind them both, her arms draped around each of their shoulders protectively. Every few moments the two smaller sisters jerk and laugh as Bellatrix pinches their shoulders lightly before the three of them erupt into peals of laughter.
“Look!” Kreacher offers, startling Delphini out of her stupor. “Mistress Bella and her baby!” He sounds genuinely eager as he thrusts another photograph in her hand.
This photo appears to be in significantly better condition than those prior. It was certainly newer than the rest. Bellatrix leans back in a cushioned chair, clearly in the drawing room at Grimmauld. There is a small bundle in her arms. Delphini’s eyes burn for a moment. Mum is exactly as she remembers her before those awful wizard took her away. In the photo the new mother gives a tired smile to the camera before someone walks into the frame, ruining the photo.
Delphini hums, rubbing at her eyes before putting all the photos back carefully.
“Did Auntie know you saved all these spoilt photos, Kreacher?”
“I'm not sure, Miss.” Kreacher answers honestly.
Delphini sighs, shaking her head lightly. She’d rifled through all the objects Kreacher had tucked into the corner...
...She can still hear the ringing.
Delphi turns away from the pile, leaning into Kreacher’s den deeper before glancing around the large boiler taking up the center.
“Little Miss-” Kreacher starts but she already saw it. A gleam of silver, a small chain tucked away deep behind the base. Delphini doesn't even bother asking what it is. It shoots out from around the ruddy pipes with a snap of her finger, she's still too young to be allowed a wand but magic listens to her all the same.
Everything goes quiet the minute the face of the jewelry falls into her slender hands. She can't hear the creaking of the pipes nor Kreacher’s nervous tutting, the ringing in her ears so powerful it's almost overwhelming.
The corners of the pendant are inlaid with small snake heads, their silver bodies making up the framework for the locket, twirling together to create a sturdy clasp. Along the cover rests a beveled ‘S’ her fingers trace the emerald gemstones embedded along it so carefully. The ringing turns to whispering.
Oh, this isn't mother’s magic. Not at all.
“Kreacher,” Delphini speaks sweetly. “Where did you get this?”

Rank all your horcruxes in order of favourite to least favourite 1 (best) 7(worst) and why
#1 - Nagini. 10/10. Very good snake.
#2 - Diary. 9/10. I made it, poured myself into it, crafted it masterfully. Only drawback is my 16 year old self was a bit...grating.
#2 - Locket. 8/10. Family heirloom from back when family was probably actually worth admiring. Stylish.
#4 - Cup. 7/10. I enjoy the story of obtaining it. Belonged to a Hufflepuff, which is...alright. they can be nice.
#5 - Diadem. 7/10. Shiny. One of a kind. Belonged to a founder. No complaints.
#6 - 3/10. Ring. Family heirloom from when family was more cringe worthy. Stone is anticlimactic. Aided Potter.
#7 - Potter. Did not want, do not recommend. Tried to kill me. 0/10.
