‼️The Cruel Prince spoilers‼️
I’m not the only one who never forgave Taryn for what she did to Jude right? Like with Valerian and Locke, yeah I despised them, but it’s not like I truly expected them to be better. But taryn was jude’s family. Her twin. And it makes it worse that Jude was always so savagely loyal to Taryn when Taryn wouldn’t do the same for her. Like Jude straight up shoved Cardan into a tree without thinking because he made her sister cry. Whereas Taryn not only didn’t help Jude, was the reason she was suffering and sincerely didn’t see how she was being awful??? I was honestly hoping when they duelled that Jude would rightfully beat the shit out of taryn because of all the ways she’d let Jude down. It still makes me mad to think about. Jude just deserved better. Ugh.

It has to be a dream...
One moment ago, you were just studying for your college midterms and the next thing you knew, black spots covered your vision causing you to pass out on your desk. Well maybe passing out was your fault since you stayed up for a whole two days straight with nothing but caffeine to keep you energized.
But how did it comes to this?
"Oi...Are you dead?"
A pair of curious eyes poked your form the moment you started to wake up. A somehow familiar face greets you. Tan skin with a noticable scar on the lower left side of his eye and a straw hat. Unlike him, His crew had a look of suspicion as they surround the two of you.
'No way....'
How come you found yourself staring face to face with the Strawhat pirates?!
"What...?"
You can only gawked in shock. There in flesh were Luffy, Sanji, Nami, Zoro, Usopp, Vivi and Chopper. All staring back at you with a mixed of bewilderment and cautiousness.
"Where....Am I...?"
"Hey....Are you okay?! Stop that! Your hurting yourself!"
You questioned yourself, slightly distraughted.
Sweet Chopper got worried seeing how tightly you started gripping your hair with both of your hands. Because of his natural caring nature as a doctor, he immediately approached and grab your hands to stop you from hurting yourself further.
"Nooo! I can't take my exams now!"
Tumblr media
Seeing that Vivi and Karoo are with the crew, you concluded that you were transported during the Alabasta arc. With Chopper already being there, that means that they had already been to Drum Island and are now on their way to stop the war brewing in the sand nation.
The Strawhats were somehow nice enough to let you stay with them for a while, although deep down, you knew it was because of seeing you in your most pathetic state.
Well most likely since you're a woman and Sanji is the type of man that will never deny a damsel in distress.
But ofcourse, you didn't want to end up on any of their bad side, and since they allowed you to stay with them, you decided to atleast try to be useful to help around the ship.
Only to find out that you have zero experience in managing a ship. You can't tie knots nor lift heavy equipments, Chopper had to help you out when the Going Merry's cannon accidentally fell on you.
All you could do was learn by observing others do their tasks, respectively.
Zoro was far more suspicious along with Usopp who was wary of you, so you couldn't ask any of them for any pointers. Nami, tried to teach you how to stir the ship but you somehow managed to get off course, so she had to step in, not after yelling at you ofcourse.
As much as Chopper helped you out whenever you were struggling, he was a bit too afraid to actually talk to you. And you like Sanji, but you hate how he treats you like a delicate and fragile glass to the point that he never let you help out whenever he's nearby.
Luffy and Vivi were the only ones who are normal around you. Luffy being somehow curious with your mannerism and weird habits. You were slightly glad that he was still the Luffy you knew in the show.
"Where did you came from, (Name)?"
He would often ask the most random questions about you. And whenever you answer, you could feel the eyes of the crew lingers your form.
"Some where really far away..."
"But I doubt that I can return back..."
You answered honestly. It had been a few days since you got sent into this world and you still don't understand how you managed to get here. You knew that you don't belong here, and without the Strawhats, you would probably be dead by now.
The Grandline is indeed a terrifying place, so you have to do what you must if you want to survive in this world.
Luckily for you, you read a few isekai mangas along with those popular korean manhwas back in your world. So with your One Piece knowledge, you have a slightly advantage of knowing what will happen next. However, you kept silent of that, as you were still trying to figure out what you were suppose to do.
In the world of pirates, a sane person would ask the crew to drop them off to a nearby island, however you were far from sane.
You are in the One Piece universe, how can you miss all those major event, nor miss the opportunity to meet some of your favorite characters.
There were two options for you, To become a pirate or marine. You did considered trying to join the revolutionary army, but you didn't like people bossing you around as you go on missions.
As much as you want to see the adorable Captain Koby as a marine, you weren't that keen to get beatened up by pirates. What if you meet those famous characters of the series, you'll definitely die.
So your only option is to become a pirate, being already on board the Going Merry. Besides, you doubt Luffy will let you go now that he has taken an interest on you, not that you know what he saw on you anyways.
You stayed up a few nights, trying to recall the future events that might happen soon. You wrote them down on a notebook that Nami gave you, not before giving you an interest of paying her back. She was slightly suprised on how you just smiled and told her that you'll somehow find the berries for it.
And now, your habit of not sleeping came back. It's like your studying your notes for an upcoming quiz again. You wrote down everything you remembered regarding the current arc you were in right now.
But first, you have to earn the crew's trusts. So you made a lot of effort to get to know them.
Their personalities were still the same like how it is on the series. There was also somethings that weren't mentioned yet you were able to notice small details while being around them.
Whenever Luffy goes feral at the sight of meat, he would let out small growls when someone approached him. It became noticeable whenever he's really hungry.
You were never a threat, Zoro saw that. You were just a weird helpless woman who somehow just ended up in their ship. Surely he was cautious around you, but seeing how you trip on your own two feet made him rethink of his assumptions that you were a spy sent by baroque works.
"Please...! Teach me how to fight...!"
At your most desperate tone, you plead Zoro to train you. If you have to survive, then you need to learn how to fight.
"Worry not, Mademoiselle! For I shall be there to protect you from those filthy trolls that dares to lay a even a finger on your delicated skin...!"
Sanji straight up told you with hearts on his eyes as he fawn over you having him as your Prince charming on a white horse. You won't learn anything from him.
"Sorry, (Name). I'm not exactly an adept brawler like Sanji, Luffy or Zoro."
"Fighting is not really my expertise. Just ask the guys about it."
Nami and Usopp aren't really much of a fighter, so they wouldn't be able to help that much. And Luffy is out of the question.
"Fighting? Just throw hard punches like this! Oh wait, you can't stretch..."
As much as you like Luffy, his fighting style is a bit too reckless for your liking and you doubt that he can teach you without getting side tracked.
And you can't just ask Vivi, like Nami, she's more of a dictator rather than a fighter. Surely she can fight, but you doubt using whip like weapons is fit for you.
So Zoro was your last hope. Watching anime for as long as you can remember, swords is something you were familiar of and You always wanted to learn how to use a sword, and Zoro being a skilled swordsman could maybe teach you a thing or two to atleast defend yourself.
"If you're asking for my help, you must have a good reason. But why should I help you..?"
Zoro was still wary of you, yet you can see that he was less hostile than he was when you first ended up at Going Merry's deck.
"Unlike any of you guys here, I'm the most vulnerable...! I'll die the moment the Navy or another pirate ship appears!"
Okay, you could have sworn that you sounded and look like another Usopp in his eyes.
"If you're serious about learning to fight, you'll have to prove your dedication. Show me you're worth the effort, and maybe, just maybe, I'll consider teaching you a thing or two."
Zoro was dead serious. But it also look like he's willing to teach you how to weild a sword if your resolve was strong enough.
"I'll do it! I want to learn how to defend myself. I can't rely on you guys all the time."
Seeing him suddenly grin, you knew you were about to experience hell.

“Wow, Vivi…” You took a deep breath in, marveling at the architectural wonder before you. “This is…”
“Totally awesome?” Nami chimed in, looking around the room.
“I was gonna say that it rivals the work of Michaelangelo, but that works too…” you replied.
Vivi crouched down and crawled into the blanket-pillow fort, poking her head out and looking up at the two of you.
“Feel free to come in! There are many snacks for us to share and movies to watch!” Vivi said cheerily, tucking herself back into the fort.
Both of you crawled after her, choosing your spots within and diving straight into the generously provided snacks.
Nami shoved a handful of pretzels in her mouth, “You’ve really outdone yourself, Vivi.”
“For sure,” you added. “Having a sleepover wasn’t on my college to-do list, but it definitely should have been.”
“And without the boys!” Nami cheered, kicking her legs excitedly. “No Luffy here to eat all the food!”
Vivi smiled at you both, “I’m glad you are enjoying the sleepover! I don’t have any siblings, so I have perfected the art of fort-making from a young age…”
“Well, that’s what friends are for!” You took a couple pretzels from the bowl. “Now we can do all sorts of things you couldn’t do back then.”
“And we can drink!” Nami interrupted, stealing a pretzel from you.
You rolled your eyes, moving over to the laptop to pick a movie, “I’ll leave the drinking to you, Nami.”
“Really?” she snickered. “You seemed pretty open to it when we were at the Baratie. If I can remember correctly, Sanji had to carry you back to the dorm…”
“How the hell would you know that?” you gaped, crossing your arms defensively. “You drank more than I did!”
Nami laughed, crossing her arms proudly, “I can hold my liquor pretty well, for your information! I’ve outdrank at least 30 grown men before!”
“What an accomplishment, Nami!” Vivi clapped.
You grimaced at Vivi’s cheeriness, “Don’t congratulate her for that, Vi…”
“Any more interesting bits of information from you, ____? A story we’ve yet to hear, maybe a long lost love? Or perhaps you and Sanji…”
“Nope, not a thing,” you quickly countered.
“Oh, you’re no fun!” Nami pouted.
You were quick to bring this party back on track, and away from your own personal life, moving to the laptop to search for movies.
“Alright, what are we thinking, gang? Romance? Comedy? Horror?”
Nami made a gagging noise, “Ew, no horror, please. I’m here for a good night, not a nightmare-filled one.”
“I do love romance!” Vivi said excitedly, looking over your shoulder with Nami at the selection of movies.
“Also, I want something classic!” Nami reached for the laptop, scrolling endlessly for movies. “And no superhero stuff, or future-y stuff.”
“Ok, well, we’ve got Clueless, Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You…”
“10 Things I Hate About You!” Nami shrieked, reaching over and clicking on the movie before you could stop her.
Vivi gave Nami a confused look, “I’ve never seen it before, is it good?”
Nami scoffed, “Only the best romance movie of all time! Trust me, Vi, you’re in for a treat.”
“Agreed,” you added, “it’s at least in the top ten best movies of all time.”
“Make that top five,” Nami corrected, leaning back into the pillows.
“I’m glad to be experiencing it, then!” Vivi cheered, joining Nami in her cushioned throne.
You cracked your knuckles, “Alright, ladies! Movie’s starting now, I expect all phones to be silenced and all mouths to be zipped! Now, please enjoy the show.”
“Ok, mom,” Nami quipped, throwing her arms behind her head.
“You wish I was your mom.”
“Nuh uh, my mom’s already the greatest mom, like, ever!" Nami hissed, sticking her tongue out at you.
“Yeah, I already know, we had a fantastic time last night.” You grinned, copying Nami’s pose.
You earned a pillow to the face for that joke.
.
.
.
“I knew it! They belonged together from the start!” Vivi sobbed as the credits rolled, throwing her face into a nearby pillow and staining it with her tears.
“It’s a romantic comedy, Vi,” you said, pinching your nose, “you’re not supposed to be crying.”
Vivi’s lip wobbled, “I can’t help it…”
“Shh…there, there, Vi,” Nami cooed, rubbing the poor girl’s shoulders. “Be nice, ____! It was her first time seeing the movie of a lifetime.”
“It was a romantic comedy, ” you groaned, laying down in the mass of pillows.
Nami hummed, giving Vivi her blanket before collapsing down beside you.
“Tell you what, girls,” Nami yawned, pulling her sleeping mask over her head. “We absolutely need to go shopping soon. I know we all need a break after this heart-wrenching cinematic experience.”
“It was a fucking romantic comedy!”
“Well, so was the Fault in our Stars, and I cried at that!”
“You’re supposed to!” you yelled, hitting Nami with a pillow, “it’s not a comedy!”
“Comedy, shmomedy,” Nami shrugged, “you in for a shopping trip, Vi?”
Vivi smiled, her blanket pulled up to her chin, “Yes, it sounds very fun! I would love to go out with the two of you again!”
“Well, I suppose that depends on our little roomie,” Nami smiled devilishly, turning towards you. “You in, ____?”
You grimaced as the two girls looked at you expectantly, waiting for an answer you didn’t want to give. Nami’s eyes were dark and knowing, while Vivi’s were light and full of happiness, unaware that Nami would probably coerce her into paying. You were more than capable of saying no to Nami, but Vi? A world with a sad Vivi was a world you couldn’t bear to live in.
“...How about Friday evening, after classes?” you muttered.
“Perfect!” Nami cheered, sliding the sleeping mask down to cover her eyes. “I’ll see you girls then. Just text me when you two are out of class and we can head out!”
“A terrific plan!” Vivi said, snuggling into her pillow. “I will see you both in the morning, good night!”
“Yeah, night, Vi,” you murmured to yourself, fearing for the safety of your wallet.
And so you joined their roommates in their quests for sleep, shutting your eyes and curling up in the mound of blankets and pillows surrounding you, giving you a very cushioned send off to the world of dreams.
*⋆✧*.𖥔⋆☆⋆𖥔.*✧⋆*
“...up, ____,” a voice mumbled above you, though you were hardly able to make out their words on account of the pillows smothering your ears.
Instead of responding, you just rolled to your side and pulled the fluffy comforter over your body, deciding that whatever the person was trying to tell you wasn’t worth it. You could decipher it in a minute, or five. Hell, why not just make it ten?
“Wake up!” the voice, now shouting, called out.
The dull pain in your ears was nothing compared to the unexpected pain in your face as a pillow hurled at top speed smacked you in the head.
“Hey!” you shrieked, clutching your cheek and looking around frantically. Nami stood above you, fully dressed with a hand on her hip, brows furrowed.
“Are you kidding me? How many times are we gonna have to wake you up?” she huffed, throwing a pile of clothes at you. “You’re lucky I set my alarm for earlier, you still have time to get ready.”
“My savior,” you groaned, examining the clothes laid before you. “Thanks for the clothes, though.”
Nami certainly had style, and it wasn’t hard to see with her daily outfits. What she picked for you chic, but comfortable enough to walk to your classes in, and wasn’t that the college dream?
“Oh it’s nothing, just something I threw together for you,” she giggled. “Vi’s in the shower right now, so once she’s done and dressed we can head out, ‘kay?”
“Got it, girl boss.” You rose from the jumbled mess of pillows and blankets and stepped carefully over to the closed bathroom door, gingerly knocking.
“Vi, it’s me! Mind if I come in for a sec?” you called out.
A muffled ‘yes’ came from the other side, so you creaked the door open and stepped inside with your bundle of clothes, doing your best to get dressed as quickly as possible.
“Sorry for the intrusion, Vivi,” you apologized, slinging the top over your shoulders.
“Ah, it’s no problem, really!” she said from behind the glass walls of the shower. “I hope you had a good night’s rest after our sleepover.”
You scoffed, “Oh, believe me, the rest was wonderful. It was the wake up call that sucked.”
Vivi laughed heartily, the sound echoing in the cramped bathroom, “This is the second time Nami has woken you up, yes? I am glad I missed this time, the first was quite…brutal.”
“Be lucky you’re not on her bad side, Vi,” you snorted, pulling your phone out.
Aside from notifications from games and emails, you did have a couple unread texts from Sanji this morning.
| Mr. Prince: Good morning Sleeping Beauty!!!!! | Mr. Prince: <333333333 Read 8:12 AM | You: lol i swear you say the same thing every morning | You: do all the women in your life get the princess treatment? | Mr. Prince: Just you! | Mr. Prince: I swear princess <33333 | You: swear your loyalty to me and i’ll believe you | Mr. Prince: ;3; | Mr. Prince: If it means earning your love… | Mr. Prince: I’ll do it!!!! | You: lol i’m just kidding | You: pls don’t do anything rash | Mr. Prince: ;3; | You: go forth and take care of every princess!! | You: that is my command | Mr. Prince: You are too kind!! | Mr. Prince: I wilokgopp;;;;;
You raised an eyebrow as Sanji’s final text, clearly too disordered to be anything except for a violet keyboard smash.
| You: did you die prince charming? | You: it’s only like 8 in the morning lol | Mr. Prince: its zoro | Mr. Prince: sanji needs to get ready so im taking his phone away | Mr. Prince: see u guys at 9 | Mr. Prince: Attachment (1) Image
The picture featured was a selfie of Zoro and a very angry Sanji, the latter attempting to wrestle the phone out of the former’s hands. You could also make out a very blurry Luffy crawling over a horrified Usopp in the background, clearly trying to be a part of the picture.
“I’ll give you some space, Vi,” you said, exiting the bathroom and making your way over to Nami amongst the mess of comforters.
“I got a text from Sanji—well, from Zoro, technically. They’re planning on heading down at nine, if that’s cool,” you said, sitting beside her.
“Yeah, that’s fine,” Nami responded, scrolling through her phone. “We’ll probably have a few minutes to kill, depending on how fast Vivi can get ready.”
Vivi’s voice rang out from the bathroom, “I will be out shortly, do not worry!”
“Take your time, Vi!” you shouted back before turning to Nami. “Judging by Zoro’s texts, Sanji might be a while.”
“That tracks,” Nami sighed, a smile slowly forming on her face. “Knowing him, he’s probably ironing his suit right now.”
“Or curling his eyebrows.”
“Or waxing his shoes.”
Vivi’s head poked out of the bathroom, clearly trying to hold back her laughter.
“Perhaps,” she giggled, “he is powdering his nose!”
The room was silent for a second before the three of you burst into laughter, doubling over at your stupid jokes. You could afford wasting a couple of minutes to laugh, unknowing that the boys were, indeed, waiting for Sanji to finish ironing his suit.
Tumblr media
“Pancakes aren’t that bad, Vi,” Nami said, drizzling her stack of pancakes in tangerine syrup. “You just gotta add what you like on top!”
“Yeah, Vivi!” Luffy said, voice muffled as he stuffed his face with his seventh pancake. “You’ve got syrup, sugar, butter, ice cream, gravy, meat—”
“You can’t put meat on pancakes, Luffy,” you pointed out, sliding your plate further away from Luffy’s potential grasp.
“Sure you can!” Sanji said, carefully decorating his own stack. “There’s plenty of traditional recipes that utilize meat and ‘pancake’, though I’m not sure you could call every example a pancake…”
“I’m saying you can’t put meat on pancakes like how Luffy does it.” You gestured to Luffy’s plate, which consisted of pancakes with huge pieces of steak and chicken on top.
“They’re not even serving steak right now!” Usopp hissed, looking at Luffy’s food with a mixture of awe and terror. “This is crazy! He’s crazy!”
“Pancakes don’t have any special nutritional benefits, but they are yummy,” Chopper remarked, taking a bite of his cotton candy-covered pancakes.
“I will stick to rice, but I thank you for your unique perspectives,” Vivi said, giving a polite smile to everyone.
“Here here,” Zoro agreed, taking a sip from his bottle.
“Stop drinking during breakfast, you have classes afterwards,” you whispered, nudging his shoulder.
“I’ll quit when I’m dead,” he responded unflinchingly, taking another swig.
You sighed, continuing to eat your meal amidst your chattering table of friends. Every conversation seemed to switch, both in topic and participants, every five minutes. You were able to catch details about the introduction of new majors—as if Grand Line didn’t have enough—as well as the topic of Luffy’s potential major.
“Come on, Luffy,” Usopp said, pointing his fork in Luffy’s direction, “you’re gonna have to choose a major soon. Why not try engineering?”
“I don’t wanna do math!” he pouted.
“You could do exercise science like Zoro,” Nami added. “Isn’t Ace doing something similar?”
Zoro hummed in agreement, “I think you’d like it, Luf. You’ve gotta learn a little bit, but you might like it.”
“But I don’t wanna copy Ace!” Luffy cried, shoveling more food into his mouth.
“If you’re interested in it, then you’re not copying,” you reassured.
“But I’m not interested.”
The table sighed in unison, knowing that any hope of finding Luffy a major would be short-lived on account of his short attention span.
“Well, you can always talk to your advisor,” Sanji concluded, wiping his mouth with a napkin. “Or your brothers. They’re juniors, aren’t they? Should have plenty of experience.”
“Oh, yeah!” Luffy exclaimed, practically jumping out of his seat. “I bet Sabo would know what to do! He’s way smarter than Ace!”
“I wouldn’t say that out loud, Luf,” a blond man sitting behind Luffy said, turning to face your group. “You know how Ace gets when you compare us.”
Luffy’s momentary confused expression turned to one of glee as he tackled the man, grabbing onto him like a koala.
“Sabo!” he shrieked, earning the attention of nearly half the cafeteria.
“I think I remember something like this happening with the other brother,” Usopp grimaced, looking all around as if something would hit him at any moment.“Has he been there the whole time?” you whispered to Nami.
“I’ve only started sitting here since last week,” Sabo replied, giving you a knowing smile. “I heard Ace had a rather ostentatious entrance, so I thought I’d surprise Luffy in a little quieter way.”
“...I’m not sure you can call this quiet,” Nami said, watching Luffy squeeze Sabo rather violently.
“Does this mean Luffy’s off our hands?” Sanji asked, peeking over at the reunion.
Sabo seemed to think for a minute, looking between Luffy and your group, before saying, “I doubt he’ll let go in time for his classes, so I can take him for a bit.”
“Sounds good to me!” Nami cheered, standing up from the table. “We should all head to class anyway.”
“Have fun on your field trip, Luffy!” Vivi smiled, waving at Luffy before dashing out of the cafeteria with Nami.
You grabbed your plate and turned to Chopper, “Do you have class right now, Chopper? I’m heading over to the science building to talk to a professor before my biology lab, so we might be heading the same way.”
“I have my chemistry lab there in a bit!” Chopper said.
“Perfect, we can head over now.” You smiled, before thinking for a second. “Are you in organic chemistry, Chopper? Or are you in some higher class?”
“No, I’m still in general chemistry,” Chopper nodded excitedly, but then looked down at his feet. “I think I’m in your class…”
“Oh, shit,” you blurted, feeling guilty. “Where do you sit? I don’t think I’ve seen you in class before…”
“In the front.”
“...Really?”
Chopper blushed, looking embarrassed, “I can’t see when I sit in the back…”
“Well, I can sit up there with you tomorrow!” you offered. “If that’s not a problem, that is. It might be nice to have someone to talk to.”
“I’d like that!” Chopper smiled, picking up his bag. “But we should head over now, before all the spots get taken.”
You slung your bag over your shoulder, calling back to the table, “See you guys later! Don’t let Luffy cause too much trouble, please!”
Sabo waved back, laughing, “I’ll do my best, but he can be unpredictable…”
“Hey!” Luffy shouted, “I’m 100% predictable!”
“That’s not—”
Before the conversation could grow into an uncontrollable argument, you escaped with Chopper in tow. Luffy may be unpredictable in seemingly every other aspect of life, but you could certainly predict how that was going to go. There would be no winners in that cafeteria, only poor, emotionally-scarred college students.
It’s truly amazing what you can learn from someone despite knowing them for less than a month.
Tumblr media
“I fucking hate chemistry, Chopper,” you deadpanned, feeling wrinkles etch on your face as you looked over the lab you’d gotten on Tuesday.
You’d been sitting at one of the few tables in the building, trying to get a start on your lab before Chopper finished completing the in-class portion of his, but you’d been struggling with question two for roughly the entirety of Chopper’s lab, leaving you feeling hopeless, even with the aid you’d received from the professor.
Chopper looked shocked, joining you at the table, “It’s not that bad! I promise it’ll get better, ____! If you want, I can help you study?”
“Truly, Chopper,” you sighed, “I think I’m a lost cause. But I’ll still take you up your offer.”
You dug your phone out of your pocket and opened your contacts, swapping info with Chopper. Another friend to add to the collection, and this one had inherent value to your major!
“Thanks, Chop.” You smiled, tucking your phone away. “I should probably head to my psych class now, so good luck with your lab.”
“Thank you, ____!” Chopper beamed, waving you goodbye.
Luckily, your psych class was in the next building over, so you didn’t have to worry about being late. In fact, the only thing you had to worry about was your chemistry lab. Psychology wasn’t too hard for you, especially back at South Blue High. It was basically just memorization—albeit a lot of memorization—that you didn’t really struggle with. Differentiating ideas could be a tad difficult, but nothing you couldn’t manage. Way better than chemistry, at least.
Your class wasn’t all too great, however. It was full of people who didn’t really want to talk to others, leading to incredibly bland discussion times. Their lack of enthusiasm killed your vibe, so despite the subject being a total snoozefest, you weren’t really looking forward—
“Hey, ____!” Luffy yelled, waving at you from a lone table near the back.
Sitting beside your rambunctious friend was his brother, Sabo, who also gave you a polite wave.
“...Is this part of the field trip?” you asked Sabo.
“Well, I’m TA-ing for this class, so I thought it might help Luffy to learn about other subjects!” Sabo said, grinning.
“Wait, you’re the TA for this class?” You raised an eyebrow, setting your bag down at a nearby desk. “I didn’t see you on Wednesday, and you weren’t introduced either.”
Sabo leaned back in his chair, “It was a spur of the moment thing. I’m a sociology major, but I thought I might dabble in psychology. It’s fascinating, the mind, and what you can do with it…”
“You sound like a supervillain.”
“Me? A supervillain?” Sabo gasped, putting a hand over his heart. “I’ll have you know, I am the kindest, gentlest, utmost altruistic gentleman this world has ever seen! Isn’t that right, Luffy?”
Luffy blinked, not a single thought going on behind his eyes, “Sabo is totally awesome! One time Ace dared him to eat a caterpillar, and he did it!”
“...Gentleman, huh?” you snickered.
Sabo shrugged, his grin tugging at one end of his mouth, “What can I say, I was a strange child. But not as strange as Luffy…”
“Hey!” Luffy yelled, shaking Sabo violently as the latter laughed.
“Well, if you have any questions, just ask,” Sabo said, easily pushing Luffy off. “Though, you seem like a smart cookie, so I’m sure you’ll do just fine.”
“Or you could ask me!” Luffy shrieked, trying to push back against Sabo.
You laughed, finally taking your seat as class began. With Sabo and Luffy providing you company, the class wasn’t so bad. Sabo was nice to talk to during discussion times, as well as when you were filling out your notes—though it was slightly grating to hear your notes being critiqued. Luffy, despite being reprimanded by the professor multiple times, kept the mood of the entire class up. Luckily Sabo was good at smooth talking, or else Luffy would have probably been expelled. You can only break the same desk so many times before being a lost cause.
As soon as the clock struck 3:20, everyone filed out of the room. You left with Sabo and Luffy, making your way over to the cafeteria for dinner, though Sabo planned on showing Luffy one more class before officially ending their ‘field trip.’
“Has any class struck a chord with you, Luffy?” you asked, glancing over to your friend.
Luffy seemed to think for a moment before speaking, “Nope.”
“Seriously, Luf?” Sabo groaned, pulling on his hair. “Not even sociology? Come one, it’s awesome!”
“I hate sitting in a classroom all day!” Luffy pouted, dragging his feet as he walked. “I wanna do something cool, like being a firefighter!”
“Well, you can bring that up to your advisor,” you offered. “I’m sure there’s a degree that—”
“Fire Fist!”
You felt a tug on your waist as Sabo pulled you ever-so-slightly closer to him and away from Luffy, and within an instant you understood why. Hurling towards Luffy at top speeds was Ace, who tackled Luffy and sailed into the nearby grass patch.
“That’s 572 to 0, Luffy!” Ace cackled, slapping his brother harshly on the back.
Luffy heaved for a couple of seconds, clearly trying to catch his breath after being so blatantly assaulted by his older brother.
“I’ll get you next time,” Luffy scowled, jumping to his feet. “I’ve been working on my punches too!”
“Oh, I’m shaking in my boots,” Ace snorted.
“Now, now, guys,” Sabo said, releasing you. “You almost hurt this poor young lady! What would Dadan say if she saw you now?”
“Don’t leave the house until you’ve done your chores?” Luffy responded, picking his nose.
Ace punched Luffy again, causing the latter to fall over onto the grass. He stepped up back onto the sidewalk, approaching you with an apologetic smile on his face.
“Sorry ‘bout that, ____,” Ace chuckled, scratching his head. “But brothers will be brothers, ya know? Can’t go a day without tackling one of them.”
“I seem to manage just fine,” Sabo coughed.
“...In other news,” Ace said, “I thought I might invite Luffy and his gang of pals—that’s you—to a lovely restaurant in order to celebrate the upcoming hockey season!”
“Is it really hockey season? School literally just started,” you deadpanned.
Ace barked out a laugh, “Every season is hockey season, baby! Now, I have other plans currently that I’m 10 minutes late for—”
“You’re what ?” Sabo’s eyes widened as he turned to Ace.
“—and I need to be there soon, so I’ll take your stunned silence as a ‘yes’ to coming, and I’ll see you Saturday night at eight!”
Before you could even respond to Ace’s outlandish statements, he sprinted away as quickly as he came, dashing through—not around—groups of people, knocking over countless bystanders as he ran away.
“Your brother is a work of art, Sabo,” you finally said, feeling breathless watching Ace’s escape.
Sabo only snorted, looking down amusedly as his little brother rolled angrily through the grass.
“Which one?”
“...Fair point.”

“You have to show me him!” Yuki exclaimed as you adjusted her outfit, making sure everything fit well. “Well, I could show you a picture, but he’s gonna come in right after you, so you could stay a minute extra.”
You two were referring to Megumi, as Yuki had always been one interested in starting conversation on people’s types. You were no exception. She told you that the reason she did it revealed a lot about the person without them knowing, you could see what she meant to an extent but really only she knew what she was talking about.
“Ooo, like how soon after me?” You looked at the time displayed on your phone, seeing the lock screen show the song you were quietly playing in the background for you and Yuki, as you guys were the only ones around. The numbers at the top read the time 5:50. “Like in ten minutes maybe, he said he’d be here around six.”
You backed up, asking Yuki to spin for you, seeing that everything seemed to fit well. “Does anything feel off?” “No, it’s perfect actually!”
“Great! Well that’s really all, you can go and change again, are you staying for a few?”
“Well I am curious, i’ll stick around with you for a bit.”
Tumblr media
6:20, and Megumi was no where to be seen. “Is he running late?” Yuki asked leaning her back against the table while she sat down, facing you who was standing up, peaking out the window of the studio room to see if there was any sign of anyone walking in.
“I don’t know, he hasn’t answered the text I sent him.”
“He usually shows up on time?”
“Most of the time, there was just once where he showed up late, but that’s because of something that was happening.” You turned back to Yuki, checking your phone just once again to see if there was any sign from him. “Like how late?” You placed your phone down, sighing before answering “40 minutes..”
“Oh, wow.”
“He made up for it though!” You defended, “He took me out to dinner, it wasn’t really a date because his friend was there too, but still!” Yuki just hummed seeming amused in your story.
“Okay, i’ll wait another 10 minutes max with you then, but if he still hasn’t responded or shown up, we’re leaving.” You yawned in response, not feeling tired because it was late, but instead because this week had really exhausted you with class work. “Can’t we make it 15?”
“Listen, he’s already done something like this before, and you’re tired, just tell him not to show up and talk it out later, but if I was you i’d go and take the fattest nap ever first.”
Tumblr media
Megumi sighed after finally finishing his project presentation for his Photo Seminar class. He really needed to try on this assignment, as his last one wasn’t the best. He didn’t fail, but he wasn’t anywhere near where he wanted or needed to be. Stressing over it he was glad to have finally finished his preparation, feeling a weight being lifted off him that is until he checked the time to be 6:38, then it was replaced with panic, remembering he had promised to meet you around six today. He looked for his phone, only to find it and see a text from you already saying you left 7 minutes ago.

NEVER MET
2. She looks just like you!
Last. Masterlist. Next.
Tumblr media
"mommy, i—i wanted to watch Hee but my tablet wo—won't work," Y/Ns five year old sobbed, her lip was pouted tapping her small, chubby fingers against the device.
Y/N and her daughter, jaeden, stood in the kitchen of their apartment that the mother had bought in Seoul. Y/N worked as a cafe waitress which didn't pay enough for an actual house but paid enough for just their small apartment, it was just the two of them though so it's not like it mattered.
"jae, baby, your tablet is just dead, if you put it on the charger, you can watch Hee in an hour, alright?" Y/N squatted down to her daughters level, grabbing the tablet and putting it on the nearest charger.
Who the fuck was Hee? Y/N had no clue what the kids watched these days, she was raised off of "the better shows;" invader zim, powerpuff girls, teen titans, etc. she was never too big on kids, even though she managed to take care of her own child for five years, and she did a pretty good job at it (if she says so herself).
"okay, uncle Soobin is coming over, okay? He'll be watching you while i'm at work," Y/N informed her daughter who wasn't paying attention, Jae was just mumbling nonsense while aggressively picking up a red marker and pressing it on the paper.
"i literally can't believe you're actually here,” Sunghoon sighed as he watched his three friends enter the cafe.
“You wanted us to, I have the evidence,” Heeseung shrugged.
“You have to sing, sir,” Kahei mumbled to the boy she was training, her and Y/N were taking turns teaching him the ways of the cafe.
“Yeah, Hee, sing,” Jake laughed, putting his hand up to his mouth to conceal his laugh.
Heeseung got out his camera, turning it on quickly and turning it towards the boy.
Sunghoon sighed, “welcome to Cafe Melody, how many?” He said with a smile (obviously forced).
“For three please,” Jay laughed out, the boys couldn’t get over how weird Sunghoon looked.
“Right this way,” Kahei stood up from her seat, walking the boys to a booth.
“Welcome to Cafe Melody, may I take your order?” Y/N had a smile on her face as she opened her notepad, taking the pen that was set behind her ear into her hand.
“Can I get the melodycakes?” Jay pointed to a picture of the red-colored pancakes that was on the menu.
“Got it, and y….. Heeseung?” Y/N lifted an eyebrow.
"you know her?" Jay whispered.
"she's an ex from high school."
"so how have you been doing since
we broke up? any good things?"
"actually, i've become a streamer—"
"streaming for all those years finally
paid off, huh?" Y/Ns smile visibly lit up,
even though she didn't like the man anymore, she was glad he achieved his dream.
"how've you been holding up?"
"i'm good, i live in an apartment nearby,
i have a daughter, this job pays well,
there's not much to tell about me, i'm
still the same soana as i was five years
ago."
Y/M knew she would regret telling her own childs father that she had a daughter but Jaeden was Y/N's greatest creation, of course she wanted to brag.
"you have a daughter?"
Y/N nodded, pulling out her
phone to show the two her lockscreen,
which was a picture of jae from her
fifth birthday. Y/N turned around to where she heard footsteps and saw Sunghoon sitting people at a table, “I have to go anyways, I’ll be back with your food.”’
Jake and Jay were flabbergasted, their mouths were parted as they waved Y/N make her leave.
"she looks exactly like you..." Jake whispered.
Watch was true, Jaeden looked almost identical to Heeseung.
"don't be stupid, Jake, obviously she doesn’t."
"did you ever have sex with the waitress?" Jay asked. true, the question that was meant to be a joke, but what took the two by surprise is when he refused to answer.
"WOAH, HEE—"
"shut up!"
"achoo!"
"are you okay, bunny?" Vivi asked, the girl who had just come back to the hostess booth.
"that's odd i hardly ever sneeze," Y/N mumbled, sniffling a few times before
walking to the designated group to
pass them their coffee.
"maybe someone's talking about you."
"don't be weird!"

Stuck Chapter 8
Tumblr media
“-A nor’easter is set to hit the city in the early hours of tomorrow morning, Friday the 8th of December. It is recommended to prepare for a potential shelter-in-place order. This storm has already caused shutdowns of major metropolitans to the north. It is predicted that the city will receive a record amount of snowfall.” Himiko paused the newscast as a new message notification came in from Shanks. She swiped over to her message app.
Shanks: Are you still okay to meet this afternoon?
Shanks: I understand if you have to reschedule because of the storm.
Himiko: I think we’ll be fine.
Himiko: The storm isn’t supposed to start until tomorrow morning.
Shanks: Okay, as long as you’re comfortable.
Shanks: I’ll pick you up from the subway stop at 5
Himiko: K sounds good
Himiko smiled down at the text before heading back to her room to get ready for her lecture. Both of her professors had opted to do remote classes because of the inclement weather. One was still conducting a lecture on Zoom, while the other had just assigned a reading and discussion board. She wasn’t sure if the storm was really going to be that bad or if it was just because it was the first major storm of the season. Either way, she was happy to not have to go into class today. Himiko was grateful that her and Nami had gone grocery shopping the night before. No amount of money could compel her to go into any supermarket today. She knew all too well how crazy people got with the threat of any amount of snow even if it was warranted. It was like the beginning of the pandemic all over again. Himiko had no doubt that the shelves would be bare before noon today.
Despite her doubts about the storm, she was glad when Nami told her that she’d be riding it out in center city at Vivi’s apartment. If it was really going to get as bad as they said she was happy that she wouldn’t have to worry about Nami’s safety. Vivi lived in a nice neighborhood, and she got her groceries delivered so there was no need for either of them to leave the apartment.
Himiko slipped on a hoodie before settling into her chair and logging onto her lecture.
***
Himiko internally groaned when she spotted the crowd forming at her subway stop. It was twice as packed as normal. She could already feel herself begin to overheat as her body attempted to adjust to the sudden influx in temperature. It was at least twenty degrees warmer in the subway station than it was outside. That paired with the fact that she and everyone else were wearing bulky winter coats to combat the frigid temperature didn’t help. Himiko quickly unzipped her jacket before boarding the train where she was packed in like a sardine. She grabbed a strap and took a deep breath to center herself. This was going to be the longest twenty-five minutes of her life. She tried to make herself as small as possible to avoid touching those around her or their belongings. On top of the crowd, half the people were carrying groceries or travel bags.
Himiko let her mind wander to Shanks as the train departed. She wondered where he was taking her. All she knew was that it was in uptown and involved food. He specifically told her to come hungry. She wasn’t sure if they were always going to surprise her with the date locations, but she didn’t hate their consideration. It was actually pretty cute to see two grown men get so excited over simple dates.
This time the only clue he gave her was that he went there at least once a month to destress. Unsure where they were going Himiko opted for a nicer outfit just in case. They were going to uptown after all. She was wearing a white A-line dress with a floral corset top that was laced in the front, sheer nude tights, and light pink flats. While she wasn’t positive about where they were going, she’d rather be overdressed than underdressed. She was kinda bummed that she had to wear her glasses today, but she knew it was easier in the long run than having to deal with dry eyes from the wind.
Himiko let out a sigh of relief when they pulled into her stop, and she was grateful to be able to dislodge herself from the crowd. While some people had gotten off at previous stops they were instantly replaced by new people. It felt more like a weekend than midafternoon on a Thursday. She kept a hand locked on her cross-body purse to prevent anyone from opening it. Even though she had a good awareness of her surroundings she didn’t want to risk attracting a pick pocketer. She knew from experience that crowds this big in such a small space were prime places for theft. She made her way up the staircase as fast as the crowd would allow.
She didn’t have any issue finding Shanks once she was finally able to make it outside. Between his height and hair, he easily stood out in a crowd. She could feel the salt crunch below her feet as she crossed the street to meet him. Himiko zipped up her coat as her body temperature started to even out.
“Hey,” he greeted her lifting his arm, prompting her for a hug. Himiko happily accepted the brief embrace.
“Hey, it’s nice to finally see you,” she said as she pulled back from the hug.
“Likewise,” he started visibly giving her a once over, “you look great by the way.”
“Thanks,” Himiko responded shyly. She resisted complimenting him back; she didn’t want him to know how good she thought he looked in a suit. Knowing him it would most likely go straight to his head.
“Ready to head out?” He asked. Himiko nodded as they started to make their way north.
“So, where are we going.” She asked.
“You’ll see,” Shanks replied with a smirk.
“You’re seriously not going to tell me?” she asked.
“And let Mihawk have all the fun? Not on your life.” He responded. Himiko rolled her eyes playfully.
“Can I at least guess?” she asked.
“Sure, but you’ll have to be quick. We’re almost there.” Shanks said.
“How far is it?” Himiko asked.
Shanks hummed in thought before responding, “About two blocks away.”
“Is it some sort of cooking class?” She guessed.
“Nah, I don’t know how much you’d enjoy doing that with me. Outside of breakfast and the occasional sandwich, I’m pretty much useless in the kitchen.” Shanks said with a laugh.
“Does Mihawk cook, or do you mostly do takeout?” Himiko asked.
“Oh, Mihawk’s a great cook. He always does the cooking on his days off; we normally save takeout for when I’m on my own or days he works.” Shanks explained.
Himiko nodded pausing a moment before resuming the game. “Is it a restaurant?”
“I don’t know if I’d call it a restaurant, but they do serve food.” He answered.
“Oh! Is it a sports bar?” Himiko asked excitedly thinking she’s got it.
“Nope,” Shanks said amused, “Me and Mihawk aren’t really sports people. Outside of casually watching rugby, I don’t really find any sports compelling to follow.”
“Damn,” Himiko cursed out of ideas.
“Do you even like sports?” he asked with a laugh.
“Sorta? My dad was from Philly and was a die-hard Eagles fan. I can follow and know the rules of all the mainstream sports like basketball or baseball. I will watch the Eagles if I’m home and they’re playing, but I don’t really go out of my way to see them. Which might be for the best; sometimes it’s a labor of love to be a Philly sports fan.” She explained.
“Do you have your own home team?” Shanks asked.
“Nah, I never really stayed anywhere long enough to call home when I was a kid. Living here for the past three years is the second longest time I’ve ever stayed somewhere consecutively.” Himiko answered, “The first being my time in Florida with Nami’s family.”
“Did you enjoy traveling around the country?” he asked.
“Sometimes, it was definitely a double-edged sword. I’m grateful for all the experiences I had, but it would have been nice to set down roots somewhere.” Himiko started, “Where are you originally from?”
“Oh, I was born and raised in the downtown area. Outside of a semester abroad when I was in undergrad, I’ve never lived anywhere else,” he said, suddenly stopping in front of a café. Himiko looked at him confused before it clicked that they were at their destination. Himiko glanced up at the sign and unconsciously squealed when she realized what kind of café it was.
“Is this a cat café?!” Himiko asked looking up at him in excitement.
“Sure is,” he said with a smile holding the door open for her. She quickly stepped inside to get out of the cold. Himiko couldn’t contain her happiness as she took in her surroundings. There were about eight cats scattered around the room. Some young, some old. There were only half a handful of patrons. She unintentionally fit in with the floral theme of the café quite well. There were multiple cat trees shaped like flowers in bloom. Along with a plush green circular carpet that mimicked grass.
“Are you hungry?” He asked from behind her.
“Yeah,” she nodded following him towards the bakery part of the establishment. Her eyes lit up when she saw that they had a tiramisu cake in the case.
“Hey, welcome in. Are you guys ready to order?” a male worker around her age asked from behind the counter. Himiko nodded again when Shanks glanced at her to see if she was ready.
“I’ll take the strawberry shortcake and a black coffee please,” Shanks ordered.
“Can I please have a slice of the tiramisu and a cappuccino,” Himiko added on. The worker nodded.
“That’ll be 2,100 berries; cash or card?” he asked.
“Card,” Shanks responded adding a tip and tapping his card to the card reader.
“Alright, that will be out shortly. We are closing an hour earlier than normal because of the weather. So, our closing time tonight will be seven.” Shanks nodded in understanding before leading Himiko towards a table near the back wall next to a cat tree that mimicked a cherry blossom tree in bloom.
“So do you come here often?” she asked, shedding her coat, and hanging it on the back of her chair.
“It varies, sometimes I only come here once a month other times twice a week. It really just depends on how stressed I am.” He answered, reaching down to scratch behind a tabby’s ear as it passed by. Himiko smiled as she watched him interact with the cat.
“It’s nice that you have a healthy way to destress. I’m sure your job can be really draining.” She said as the cat stalked away. Shanks nodded.
“I’m used to the stress to an extent, but it can definitely come to a head when I’m working on high-profile cases.” He spoke. Before Himiko could ask any follow-up questions a high school-aged worker dropped off their food.
“Here you are,” She started placing their food and drinks in front of them. “And by the way I love your outfit.” She said giving Himiko a warm smile.
“Thank you so much, for the food and the compliment,” Himiko said with a matching smile. The girl nodded before heading to the back of house.
“You really do look stunning,” Shanks said taking a sip from his mug as he eyed her over the rim.
“I’m sure you say that to everyone,” Himiko said with a laugh as she followed suit and took a sip of her drink.
“Nah, I may be a flirt, but I only ever say things when I mean it,” He started setting his drink down. “Though I do think there’s a better place I’d like to see that outfit.”
“Oh, and where’s that?” she asked, amused.
“My bedroom floor,” He responded with a smirk. Himiko held his gaze for a moment before she broke down laughing.
“What too cheesy?” He asked joining in on the laughter.
“Just a little” She answered with a smile, taking a bite of her cake.
“Damn, that line almost always works,” Shanks said, digging into his own dessert.
“On who? Mihawk?” Himiko asked exasperated.
“Sometimes, depending on his mood.” He responded.
“I don’t believe that,” Himiko said shaking her head.
“What, it’s true!” Shanks said, defending himself.
“How many times has it worked?” She asked.
“I’ve bedded Mihawk with that line plenty of times.” He said back.
“Oh, really. Is it the line that gets him, or is it just because you’re handsome?” Himiko asked.
“You think I’m handsome?” Shanks said with a smirk, leaning his head on his hand.
“I mean it’s clearly not your game that got me here.” Himiko joked, causing Shanks to drop his smile.
“I have game,” Shanks said, feigning offense.
“Oh, I’m sure you do,” Himiko laughed.
“I do! How else would I have bagged Mihawk?” He asked.
“By being attractive! You have pretty privilege.” She said finishing up her cappuccino.
“What’s pretty privilege?” he asked, confused.
“It’s a theory that attractive people are treated better than those who are not,” Himiko explained.
“If anyone here has pretty privilege it’s you,” Shanks said, shaking his head.
“No, I’m pretty and have a personality.” She sassed him. Shanks responded with an exaggerated eye roll as he took the last bite of his dessert. He then stacked their dishes and took them to a wash bin built into the trash can.
“Ready for the best part?” he asked, taking her hand, and leading her over to a box full of cat toys. He grabbed a feather on a stick and took a seat on an ottoman. Himiko grabbed a small mouse plush before sitting down next to him. He started to wave the feather around. A pair of younger cats perked up and crossed the room towards him. Himiko unconsciously smiled as the cats took turns batting the feather around; she almost missed the light touch of an older cat brushing against her leg. She glanced down and was met with a pair of heterochromatic eyes of an older calico. The cat was sat at her feet flicking her tail back and forth while eyeing the mouse plush in her hand. She lightly tossed it a few feet away; to her delight, the cat stalked over to the mouse, picked it up, and returned the plush to Himiko's feet.
The cat and Himiko played fetch for the next ten minutes before it slinked off to lay down on a heated cat bed by the window. Himiko's eye followed it before widening as she looked out the window.
“Shit,” she cursed, at the sight of solid white on the other side of the glass. Shanks glanced at her confused before he followed her gaze to the front window.
“Jesus, that happened fast.” Shanks agreed as he let the two cats grab the feather and pull the toy away from him.
“I think we need to leave right now before it gets any worse,” Himiko said as she headed back to the table and grabbed her coat. She now noticed that they were the only customers left in the café. The staff had just begun to corral the cats into the back room. Shanks nodded in agreement as he slipped his coat back on.
“I hope the trains are still running,” she said pulling up her transit app.
“How far do you have to walk from the station to your apartment?” he asked looking down at her.
“Um, about three blocks.” She answered while trying to refresh the app.
“So, you’d have to walk five blocks in total if you went home?” he asked.
“Yeah,” She nodded as the app finally loaded. All outdoor transportation had a ‘x’ next to their routes, but the subway would still be running, at least for now.
“If you’re going to go all the way downtown, I’m coming with you,” he said looking down at her with a serious look on his face.
“You don’t half to do that-” Himiko started before Shanks cut her off.
“Yes, I do; there’s close to zero visibility outside. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if anything happened on your way home.” He started taking her hand in his. “Alternatively, we can go to ride out the storm at my apartment it’s only a block and a half from here.” Himiko bit her bottom lip as she mulled over her options. She had zero chance of trying to convince Shanks to let her go home alone in a blizzard. That paired with her poor choice of clothing basically made the decision for her.
“Okay,” She nodded, “Let’s go to your place.” Shanks nodded, letting go of her hand for a moment to pull out his phone. A look of relief crossed his features.
“Mihawk just got home; he didn’t get the short end of the stick for once,” Shanks explained, pocketing his phone.
“Does he normally have to stay at the hospital during storms?” Himiko asked tilting her head.
“Yeah, he was stuck at the hospital for three days last summer when that hurricane came to the city.” Shanks started before continuing, “We should get a move on; I told him we’d be home in the next 15-20 minutes. He’ll worry if we’re late.” Himiko nodded as they made their way to the door. Shanks grabbed her left hand again as they opened the door and went outside. It was immediately awful. Himiko had zero visibility as she blindly followed Shanks through the storm. That paired with the intense wind made it almost impossible for her to keep her eyes open. She was immediately grateful that she didn’t opt to go back to her apartment. After what felt like an eternity, she lost Shanks’ grip. Before she was able to panic, she heard a beep and was being guided inside a building.
Himiko took off her glasses and quickly cleaned them on the edge of her dress before putting them back on. She squinted as her eyes adjusted to the bright lighting of the room. She was standing in an art deco-style lobby. The base was a deep forest green with gold and silver accents. She felt anxiety rise in her stomach as the reality of her situation sunk in. She was going to be stuck with Mihawk and Shanks’s home for the next 48 hours at the minimum.

"I. Uh. Might have developed a small crush on my brother's girlfriend.
Now, I dont really believe in love at first sight. But it was close enough.
Tumblr media
She smiled at me once, twice, thrice, and then I realized I wanted to see that smile forever. It's just!! Everything felt better with her by my side, you know? Have you ever felt that?"
Tumblr media
An image comes to his mind, but he can't recognize it. It quickly disappears.
"We were best friends. We shared makeup and talked all night and raised kids together, bestie stuff.
I always thought of me and my brother as equals, i mean, we are both dumb rich kids who love pretty girls and sweet popcorn
But I never understood his ambition. He had everything! A beautiful wife, lovely kids, money, time, fame. Some of us dont have even one of those things!
So why did he not care about them?
Tumblr media
He just left Mari abandoned in their house everyday, he barely went to do his job as CEO, He just ran around doing whatever! Why couldn't he just see how good he has it? The people he was hurting? The responsibilities of a husband and father??
One day Mari came to me, barely speaking, saying he divorced her.
I uh, didn't take it very well.
Tumblr media
In my defense, if you saw someone having everything you've ever wanted and just threw it away, wouldn't you be a little mad?
And I know it's selfish and envy is bad or whatever. But he was hurting people. People I love very much. Even himself, i think.
We fought a lot, i told him he was a stupid spoiled child, and he told me i'd never achieve anything even with our parents' money. Then I, uh, said that I was glad he had little youth left because it meant he was gonna die soon.
Yeah... uh... maybe bringing childhood trauma into the divorce thing wasn't a good plan.
And I only realized it later, when he made some crazy internet thing and he was getting detained by the police.
Tumblr media
Mari was not coping well, me neither, honestly. We both realized the person we knew was actually just in our heads and that the real person is some cruel stranger. It was almost like grieving.
We fought over the smallest things. Nadia and Simon decided to move to their friend's house. I went back to mine as well, I couldn't take it.
Just like him, I left her all alone. It must run in the family."
Tumblr media
"So, yeah, she's probably super mad at me. And doesn't want to be with me ever again"
Beebo tries really hard not to tell her how wrong she is about that
"Well, let's go look for her then! I'll speak on your behalf, so you two dont have to face each other, but the message goes across. Where do you think she is?"
"Um, she said something about her kids, right? They usually are in the observation tower, so she might be looking for them there?"
"Alright, let's go there"
"I'm back I'm back!"
Tumblr media
"The Vivi has been secured"
"You literally just made me turn every single location tracking app i have"
"And now you are secured"
"Um, hello?"
Tumblr media
"Oh! This is my friend ..."
"Uh. Um. Oh fuck I still dont remember his name. And I literally asked him out! Seems like I still get all stupid in the presence of handsome men. I'll just wait until someone else says it"
" ... from college!, and his friend, Vivi right?"
"Hey Ollie, where is the lady with the blue hair I left you with?"
"We are going to her! She might be in an observation tower, we think"
"Wait, are we all going?"
"Yes. You need your emotional support me, I need my emotional support him and he needs his emotional support her"
"I can take it"
"Wait! I still dont know what to say to her! How do I say that Im sorry? That I love her?"
"I have suggestions"
"So do I"
"Mine would be funnier though"
"...Im so fucked"

25 Lucy and Vivi in the siren au
Aaah, finally getting to this one with a cute idea.
25- Write about your ship bathing or swimming together.
It had been a long night working at Mardör. There were plenty of rowdy customers, which meant great tips for both Lucy and Vivi. But it also meant taking a good swim to recharge. Being in human skin was a challenge for Vivi with the damage that she had to her fin translating over into pain while walking and needing a cane, so nights like this were usually more relaxed.
Lucy left Vivi for a few minutes to gather a few things, and Vivi found a comfortable spot that would let them lounge without having to fight the current.
When Lucy got back, the double tailed siren set her haul down on the rock next to them, and grinned triumphantly before leaning back herself.
"Is that sea cucumber?" Vivi asked with a twinge of excitement in her voice.
Lucy smirked at her, "It is. The moonlight hit it just right and I found a huge patch. We have a new secret stash of snacks."
Vivi chuckled, "Good. With how many ships are in port, we're going to need more nights like this."
The two of them took clay that Lucy had gathered and spread a mask on their faces, and snacked on seaweed and sea cucumber as they lounged.
"You'll never guess who I saw Jean-Pierre leaving the bar with last night," Lucy said, a mischievous grin on her face.
"Who?"
"That really cute new waitress, the one with mousy brown hair and sweet brown eyes."
"No! Daniella? Really?"
Lucy nodded, "I swear to you, I saw his arm around her waist and they were both all smiles. It was adorable, I hope they at least have fun."
Vivi chuckled, "Good for them. I think it's sweet. He's a good man."
Lucy was quiet for a beat, "Have you ever-"
"With Jean-Pierre?" Lucy gave her a look as though it was obvious and she said, "No, I just think he's a sweetheart." She looked at Lucy, "Have you ever...?"
Lucy blushed and made a so-so hand gesture as she ate some seaweed, "He may have spoken French between my human legs."
"Lucy!" she gave Lucy's shoulder a playful shove.
"What? I had a little too much of that 20,000 Leagues Sea Water that Mephisto manifested, Jean-Pierre was hitting that imported tequila a little hard that night, and well, one thing led to another."
Vivi laughed, "I was wondering why those bottles looked emptier!"
The two of them devolved into a fit of giggles as they spent the next few hours gossiping and unwinding until the wee hours of the morning, glad that they'd have more nights like this to look forward to in the coming weeks.

“White” Christmas
It might be the new year, but it’s never too late to receive a gift! Hey @viotti-violet you’re my second giftee. It seems your gift was lost in transit so another has been sent in its place. I apologize for it being late, but I hope it was worth the wait! I heard your call for some Vithur, Lewvithur, baking, and cuddles with blankets. Let’s go the whole nine yards shall we? I hope you like it!!
Winter was in full swing, snow fluttering down from the heavens. Earthen colors were replaced with a blanket of pure white, growing thicker with each passing second. A strange contrast to the way the weather usually was around these parts, though not entirely unwelcome.
An orange glow emitted from the windows of a nearby home, nestled in between two others on a strip of road. Night hadn’t yet climbed into the sky, blue still stretching as far as the eye could see, and yet orange mixed along the sills, not that one might notice right away. The once pristine blanket disturbed by the up kick of feet, footprints accompanying the thinner patches of snow along the walkway. Three girls were bundled up, flakes decorating their jackets.
A pair of soft gazes fell on them before they continued to the door, giving a knock. The door opened, Mrs. Pepper’s usual stoic look cracking a smile, “Vivi. Arthur. Glad you could make it. Please, come in.”
A smile formed on both their faces, passing Mr. Pepper. The man was just as bundled up as their daughters, likely either coming to join them in their play, or to watch them while the other stayed inside. With how much energy the children have, it might be a while before any of them were content enough to come back inside.
That’s fine though. The core trio had plans.
The orange glow came from the same source of a gentle crackle sound. A fire danced with life, a hint of smoke filtering into the whole space. Pine and spice in with the scents, the Pepper family going the extra mile when it came to their decorations. It made sense, they ran a restaurant after all. It was in the spirit of the season to assume it was just as decorated. In the more private setting of their own home, they weren’t always burdened by their son’s secrets. Better safe than sorry. A tree stood not too far from the fireplace, lights left off until later in the day, though ornaments made it pop for the time being. Lines of lights and garland were placed with care along the walls, a few knick knacks set up on their wooden furniture.
The smell of spice came lingering from the kitchen, a gentle hum following along right behind it.
Vivi and Arthur both shed their winter coats, the latter of the two probably not needing it as much as the former. The three of them thought it a cute idea to dress up for their get together… well… perhaps ‘dress up’ was a bit incorrect. Lewis was probably the only one with the dramatic flare to pull off anything like that, especially if it were for his sisters.
So something simple.
The concept of an ‘ugly’ sweater seemed subjective depending on who you asked. For someone that wore one just about every day, and one of just one color at that, she was much more picky about the one she picked out to wear. Or perhaps it was simply something that fell under ‘dressing to impress’ in a much more casual light. The color scheme was still the same, though traded out her usual light blue for something darker. White snowflakes ran all around the garment, rows upon rows of them.
Fitting for her.
Arthur’s wasn’t too different from her own, though clearly not as picky about his own. There was only one requirement when it came to his own… technically two if you counted something to match his golden scheme. He wasn’t complete without it. No, the core detail required for his own was some kind of pun. The man was infamous for them, so it was just something that fit him better than some complex design.
Coats hung and stray fibers brushed out lead them to join Lewis in the kitchen, guided by the humming heard earlier. As to be expected, he was adorned in his own sweater, deep purple with some traces of black along the borders. Hardly proper Christmas colors, but then again the same could be said for Arthur’s. There were snowflakes along his own too, but mixed in the monotone pattern were skulls and ghosts.
His golden heart jumped at the sight of them, his ‘human’ form being the one to greet them. Were it not for the black sclera, it would be almost as if nothing ever happened.
His smile was warmer than the fire not a room away, “Vivi! Artie! Glad you both made it safely.”
“‘Course we did, big guy. That van can tough through just about anything.” There was some truth to that, given that even when being chased and crashing into the side of a building… well it could have ended up a lot worse. That van was one of, if not the, man’s pride and joy.
“Right. Still with all the ice and snow, one can never be too sure.”
“Yeah I got you. But seriously, no need to worry. I’m being careful.”
“Didn’t doubt you for a second, Artie.” Ironic coming from him.
Vivi jumped in now, “Yeah yeah, we’re safe you dork. Are we all ready to get started?”
Lewis’ eyes brightened, his arms moving out to encompass the counters in front of him. An assortment of ingredients, food dyes, and decorative tools. Anything they could have wanted for baking, he had, not that it was that much of a surprise. Upon seeing stars in their own eyes, Lewis placed a palm over a recipe book. He prepared everything. Vivi was the first to flip the book open, looking through different cookies while Lewis passed over a box to Arthur, who took it with a confused look on his face.
Work gloves?
“For your left hand. Figured you wouldn’t want to get anything in the… spaces.”
Arthur gave a light chuckle at his choice of words before taking one, carefully slipping it over the metal hand, “Thanks Lewis.”
From there, the three of them broke off, having selected a recipe each to work on. At least that was how it started… First it was just a flurry of flour releasing into the air as it fell from measuring cup to bowl. A sneeze echoed through the kitchen, both men quick to ‘bless her’. She readily gave them both thanks, glancing down at the white streak along her sweater. The bluenette peered at it longer than she should have, a mischievous grin curling wider and wider along her face.
As she grabbed the next scoop of flour, her hand reached further than it needed to, powder, white lining her hand, not that either of her boys would be able to tell with how pale she already was. Her gaze trailed over to the closest person to her, making Arthur her target. He had already finished his dough, carefully shaping his cookies before they were to go into the oven. Her hands moved up, catching his shoulders as she latched on.
A surprised gasp escaped from the blond, his head spinning to look over his shoulder, “Vivi?!”
“Those look so good Artie.”
“O-Oh… Thanks Vivi.”
“No problem. Keep up the good work!”
Arthur watched her walk away, warmth filling his chest… and maybe a bit on his face… letting a smile form on his face. It was nice to let the more genuine smiles out rather than the false ones. He watched her all the way up until she got back to her side of the counter, going back to his work. Cooking… wasn’t exactly his forte. The other two were much better than him, so it only made sense he went with something simple for his choice.
Upon finishing his tray, he joined Lewis at the oven, no surprise his’ was already baking. Looks like he was going to have to wait another round. Purple eyes peered over to his friend, eyebrow raising as he caught the sight of something, “Hey Artie?”
“Yeah Lewis?”
“Why is there a white handprint on your shoulder?”
“White hand-” That snapped him into motion real quick, hands moving up to twist the back of his sweater more into view. Sure enough, there on his shoulder was a smudged, white handprint. There was only one person who could have done that. The blond’s eyes met with Vivi, who despite realizing she had been caught, held a sly grin with her tongue sticking out at him. That heat along his cheeks came back, “Vivi!”
Her reply was simply letting her tongue stick out more.
Before he could think much on what he was doing, Arthur’s ‘noodle’ legs and long strides carried him back over to the counter, finding his own hands dipping in the flour. The bluenette began to back away from Arthur, his own assault of powdery ingredient pointed in her direction. Both of them took turns patterning each other with flour… all the while Lewis stood there watching.
Some part of him couldn’t help but smile and shake his head at their antics… but the other part of him, the professional side of him, was threatening to boil over.
It wasn’t until Mrs. Pepper poked her head in, noting the change in color that her sharp gaze focused on the two offenders. Both of them met her gaze, each raising a hand to point at the other for the blame. That gesture alone caused another shake of Lewis’ head, though a light-hearted one rather than one of disappointment.
Of course they had to clean up their mess, and of course the two troublemakers were the ones taking care of it while Lewis finished the actual baking. They’d be returning to that task once it was time to decorate. Seeing as the cookies would take time to cool before some of them could be done, it was Lewis’ suggestion they took a small break.
The ghost lingered behind for a few moments, Arthur and Vivi enjoying one another’s laughter at their ‘flour war’. Vivi pulled him down in front of the crackling fire, heat pressing against their fronts as they were embraced in the same orange glow from the windows. The bluenette found her head leaning onto Arthur’s shoulder, watching the embers dance in front of them.
The spell was broken by a ‘clink’ sound, mugs resting on coasters along the coffee table resting near them. A couple blankets found their way wrapped around their bodies, Vivi and Arthur leaning back against Lewis once he sat down behind them. A content sigh escaped from them collectively, the scent of chocolate filtering in from the mugs.
They could enjoy those soon…
For now…
It was nice to just share in the comfort of one another.

Hello there! Hope your having a good day. May I request Sayaka,Miu and kyoko with a fem reader that works in a haunted house where they basically scare people and maybe they try to go to see if they get scared or the character goes to work there for a day to see how it is
{+ Miu and Kyoko with a fem!s/o who works in a haunted house +}
Summary: Miu and kyoko ( Separately ) go to their s/o's haunted house
Warnings: Swearing, Please tell me if i missed anything. A/N: Of course! I couldn't think of anything for Sayaka my dearest apologies! ===========================
[= Miu =] - When you asked her to come by to the haunted house she acted like it was for children and it " Wouldn't scare her " - Turns out it did scare her, she was cussing out your entire family during the haunted house - In the end, she just told you she was " Acting " - You can believe her, or you cant. - She even punched one of your co-workers at one point When Miu walked in, she was greeted with a jumpscare from a doll that would fall from the ceiling, " AH- Oh fuck you! " She yelled out angrily continuing to walk to the next room just for you to run at her in special effects makeup and a knife " HELL NO FUCK OFF! " She said running away to the next room where your co-worker was in a clown costume. Your co-worker scared her when she walked in and she punched them straight in the nose " Hah! Serves you right fucker! " She laughed as your co-worker held their nose in pain as she went off to finish the haunted house. Screams of curses and laughs were heard as you were helping your co-worker with their nose. { Timeskip } " I wasn't even that fuckin' scared! Im Miu Iruma, i ain't no pussy! " She laughed saying it overconfidently, " Mhm sure, sure " You said kissing her cheek. "Let's head back home, My shift is over anyways! " You said holding her hand " Fine fine, " She said walking over to the car.
-----------------------
{+ Kyoko Kirigiri +}
Do you really think you can scare her?
She has seen murders, homicides, etc
So when you invite her to try the haunted house, she isn’t very excited so per say
She will occasionally slightly flinch or her eyes would slightly widen
Other than that nothing much “ S/O said to enter from here.. “ She said to herself staring at the door to the haunted house. She entered the haunted house having a doll fall from the ceiling right infront of her, though she slightly flinched, it was nothing she couldn’t handle, “ Hm, interesting. “ She said walking around the doll into the next room. She walked up to the door of the next room, soon realizing it was locked, she looked behind her just to see a clown with a knife, she just stared at the clown trying to open the door calmly. When she did she went into the next room where you stood with special effects makeup with a machete about to run at her “ S/O it is very clear that its you. “ She stated bluntly staring at you, you just ran at her just for her to hold you down with a hug, “ Fine fine, you can go to the next room. “ You mumbled as she let you go, “ Thank you dearest S/O. “ She said as she went to the next room. Where your co-worker dressed a prison escapee with crazy makeup stood “ That outfit isn’t very convincing. “ She said as she reached the end of the haunted house. ======================== There we go! Im glad i got a request i do really love writing all your requests! I am open to more and i do hope i didn't make any mistakes here! Thank you all for the support! - Vivi

Mrs. Alexton frowned at Natasha. “What are you wearing? When I said you could dress casually for this event, because it might make you look hip and trendy, I didn’t mean you could wear just anything. You have a closet full of preapproved casual attire, where did you get that jacket?”
The two were far from the crowd, watching as her employees set everything up to demonstrate her company’s new invention. It was a huge machine like something out of a sci fi novel, a small podium with a huge device hanging overhead, with a small pointed protrusion pointed downward.
“An up and coming fashion designer made it. It’s unique, one of a kind. It will probably be worth millions someday. Well, perhaps not millions, but I bet it will become valuable.” She spun around to show it off. “Look, it’s really high quality, you can’t even tell it isn’t a big name fashion brand.”
“You’re right, it does appear to have been made by skilled hands, but that doesn’t mean it was okay for you to disobey me.”
Natasha flinched, she hadn’t disobeyed. She hadn’t even been sneaky, this wasn’t some big loophole she’d found and exploited with a sly grin. This was approved- she’d been told to dress casually to this event. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to go against your word. I misunderstood what you meant. I’ll double check next time.” She took off her jacket and handed it over. “But can I please keep it to wear at home in private.”
Mrs. Alexton stuffed the jacket into her purse. “If you behave yourself today, then perhaps you might.”
Natasha tensed up, hoping that everything would go smoothly from here. Thankfully, someone approached to distract Mrs. Alexton before she could take out her frustrations on Natasha any further. Looking up, Natasha felt her stomach flip.
Vivi.
“Ah, hello, Miss Elakha, how nice of you to come today.”
“It’s my pleasure,” she said with a bow. “Though I was surprised when you asked me, I work in data entry so I’m afraid I don’t know much about the actual science behind the company’s devices, but I’ll do my best.”
Mrs. Alexton put on a smile, one so fake it made Natasha sick. She was amazed something could make her soul freeze and her blood boil at the same time, you’d think they’d cancel out.
“I know dear, and to be honest, that’s why I wanted you. Sometimes I feel so lost at these events. I want to do good by my husband, God bless his soul, but running his company can be so hard when I don’t understand a single thing going on. It’s always nice to have someone else here who can relate.”
“Yes of course.” Vivi bowed politely once again.
Natasha held her words in. She didn’t have anything against, Vivi, in fact, she thought the woman’s pink hair was cool. But for someone like Mrs. Alexton, who was old fashioned and preferred order, she suspected there had to be some deeper reason. Like she was using Vivi for some publicity stunt or something. Really help sell that hip and modern image she was trying to project.
It was almost hilarious, Mrs. Alexton tried so hard to project a quiet and reserved image around the house and when talking to board members, but she wanted the company to appeal to a broader audience. She stood there, hands folded, watching with a smile as all the photographers gathered around with the other visitors.
Vivi Elakha took to the stage. “Hello, everybody, welcome to the Achefall Electronics Expo. We at Alexton Inc. have been hard at work to bring you this.” She gestured to the strange laser machine. “The R.E.S.T.O.R.E. Laser.
“That’s Repair Everything Save Tarnished Objects Restoration Energy Laser.”
“What’s it do?” Someone asked.
“I’m glad you asked.” Another employee approached her, handing her a small porcelain doll in a clear box. The doll had cracked skin, and her dress was dirty and torn. Vivi carefully removed it and set it on the small podium beneath the laser. “It’s quite marvelous, really. It fixes things. Here, let us show you.” She flicked a switch, and the machine began lighting up like a Christmas tree. It hummed and glowed as it charged a small laser, only firing after a minute.
Everyone watched in amazement as the cracks in the doll began vanishing, dirt seemed to melt right off the dress, and the threads mended at the tears. It wasn’t perfect, the dress still looked a little frayed, but it had gotten much better.
“As you can see, there are still things worth fine tuning,” Vivi flicked the switch again, turning off the laser. “This isn’t some miracle machine capable of reversing time. It finds things that are broken or repaired and mends them at an atomic level. This is still cost prohibitive on a larger scale, we intend to find cheaper ways to build this machine. But for now, this proves it can be done. And we believe in dreaming big.
“One day technology like this could be used to on larger scales, making quick repairs to damaged phones or cars, mending torn clothing on the go. Break a pair of glasses? No longer will you need to wait to pick up a new pair, you’ll be able to fix it in the comfort of your own home!”
Audiences clapped, but reporters launched into a series of questions. How long did they expect the project to take? How much would the technology cost when it was complete? Did it take a lot of energy to run? Vivi smiled and directed them toward the scientists. Stepping down from the stage, she rejoined Alexton and Natasha, placing the doll back in its glass box.
“Hmm, such a pity,” said Alexton. “I was hoping to completely fix this doll. It’s a rare and valuable antique you see. It was meant to be preserved and displayed, but one day I came home to find Natasha playing with it out in the yard.” Alexton shot Natasha a glare. “It’s been ruined ever since.”
Natasha froze up, thinking of the cracks, the frayed clothing, the dirt- none of that had happened because of one simple play session. Natasha wanted to play with the doll on display in her room, after all it was left in her room, so she assumed it was a toy for her. Never in a million years did she imagine it was meant to show off to visitors so she could look sophisticated and important.
She wasn’t even really that interested in it, she simply didn’t have anything else to do. She just wanted to take a nice picture of it, hoping to send it back to her old foster home. Maybe Kris would see and know she was okay. She took it outside because that’s what she’d always seen on TV, you take dolls outside to play and have tea parties.
It only got damaged when Alexton, with a smirk, said, “Oh, dear, if you were bored and wanted a companion, why didn’t you simply say so. Would you like to play with one of my dogs?”
That sounded fun, so Natasha nodded next.
She never expected that “dog” in this instance meant a German Shepard. One that had been trained to scare off intruders, but not attack the staff or members of the household. But Natasha didn’t know that. She was just a child, barely eleven, who saw a large dog, barking very loudly.
It wasn’t a mean dog, nor was it dangerous- but conveying that to a frightened child could be difficult. So when the dog jumped at her, barking, Natasha got scared and fell backward, dropping the doll to the ground. It shattered in a pile of dirt as the Natasha scrambled backward, flicking it at the dog.
Mistaking it for a chew toy, the excited dog chomped down on the doll, frightening Natasha even more. She was never hurt during that incident, not physically. Mrs. Alexton was too smart for that. She kept this all at a level she could easily pass off as playtime gone wrong.
Natasha would later learn just how well trained these dogs were. This was certainly no accident.

🫂 to Nana from Violetta!
Violetta stood in the shade of the NRC stables, watching as the equestrian club took their horses through their paces. It was a hot, dry day, and the animals' hooves kicked up a sizeable dust cloud as they were gently urged through their steps, turns, and jumps. Her pencil flew across the surface of her sketchpad, doing rapid gesture studies of the horses and their riders, even tracing the movements of the dust in the breeze. She wanted to include a scene of a handsome knight on horseback in her next comic, and these studies would help immensely in helping her to get realistic movement reflected on her pages. She was observing the riders so raptly that she didn't even notice the figure that had come to sit on the grass by her feet.
"Meow meow, Vivi," came a voice from below her line of sight. Violetta yelped, dropping her sketchbook. She looked down to see Nana holding the pad, grinning up at her. "Sorry, I guess in this shape, it should be 'hi there', huh?"
"My goodness!!" Violetta's cheeks went purple. "I, I suppose either is good, since it's you! Hello, Nana." She gently took the sketchpad from the other girl, then lowered herself to sit on the grass beside her. "I didn't know you frequented these meetings."
"I wanted to keep an eye on Sebek and Silver today," Nana drawled lazily, "since Lilia's busy with his club activities." She raised a hand and indicated the drawings that Violetta had done. "Looks like I'm not the only one."
"They're good models," Violetta said, a bit defensively.
Nana flicked her ears amusedly. "They probably are. Silver's kinda pretty for a dude, I admit. And Sebek is....." She paused thoughtfully. "There's a lot of him to draw, I guess?"
Both girls giggled, and Violetta put the drawings down. "It's a better set of references for my stories than the guests at mother and father's place."
"Yeah. Everyone there was either gloopy honeymooners or absolutely ancient!"
"But at least I had one friend to look forward to seeing," Violetta said, putting an arm around Nana's shoulders.
"Every summer!" Nana leaned into her, and sighed a soft purr. "Feels so far away though, now that we're here."
"Not that far. We're still friends, at least."
"But now you know I can talk back. I'm sorry I kept that secret for so long."
"It's all right." Violetta patted Nana's shoulder. "I can still talk to you the same way."
"I'm glad."
"Me, too."

The little pink volph awakens from their nap and suddenly finds themself tilted, slipping out of the glass onto something warm and soft that feels like a bed. A bed seems like a tremendously good place to continue their nap, even better than a vase, but they hear vampires talking all around them with their silly, wet mouth-sounds, so maybe they should pay attention in case someone wants licks or to pet their tummy. Their tail wags before they even open their eyes. They knew the vampires would save them! They always did.
A big huddle of vampires -some small and some tall and some wrinkled and old- stare at them, none of which they recognize. This isn’t unusual. Vivi is very clever and knows that servants and guests come in and out of the house. These ones are dressed very nicely, so they must be guests. How fun! Vivi loves it when guests are over because they smell different and sometimes they ruffle their ears, which is an amazing experience you just can’t get back Home because hands hadn’t been invented yet until the first volph met the first vamp.
"It’s her. Vivi. I haven’t seen her since I was a boy,” says an old vampire with a face full of wrinkles, “we spent so much time looking for her, we thought she was stolen, but she was here all along.”
Oh no, the vampires had to make a tremendous fuss just to find them. They hope they didn’t have to take too much time out of their day but surely they’ll understand given the circumstances. Besides, it was only a little nap but when you’re looking for something, everything seems to take longer. Vampires need to learn how to rush less and play more.
The other vampires murmur to themselves but Vivi pays them little attention because some mouth-sounds are hard to understand but also because there are so many new sniffs on the wind. So many new vampire smells! So many new flower smells! So many new red juice smells! Their tail thumps in excitement but not too much; being too energetic is a bad volph thing to do and they know how to follow the rules of the game.
Their thoughts are suddenly distracted by the old vampire stroking their fur. Vivi immediately flops over and shows their belly because this is a cute volph thing to do and they’re cute. They didn’t know what cute was before they came here but they’re glad they did because now they understand who they are better. Success! Belly rubs! Vivi knows a fun trick, which is to lick people while they pet your belly. Vampires don’t have fur or vapors because they’re built funny but that’s okay, they still taste alright....and smell familiar? Vivi stops licking, starts sniffing instead.
Oh! It’s Eno! It’s their baby boy! Oh, how fantastic! He finally learned to shapeshift properly while they were napping because now he’s all tall and wrinkly. How very clever! He’s such a smart boy! Vivi knew that he’d get it right one day! They feel like such a good mother right now. Maybe someone will give them a treat for doing a good job raising him.
Barking is a bad volph thing to do inside unless there’s danger, even though they want to do it, but wiggling around is a good volph thing to do, so they wiggle on their back, tail wagging, tongue sticking out because everyone thinks that’s funny.
“Vivi, it’s been so long,” says their clever, good son and he picks them up like a baby, which is always fantastic because it’s like someone carrying you in their mouth but without danger of getting poked. They nuzzle in close.
There’s a confused whine from the doorway and Vivi knows that whine! An iridescent blue volph with long, long legs pads into view and Vivi knows those legs! They’ve darted under them so many times! Vivi knows those shimmers and shines! This is their very best friend! Oh, how fun! They can show them all around the garden and the big hallway you can slide down and their children and even the special spot where they bury shiny things from the jewelry box!
What a good day! What a good nap! They’re going to have so much fun together!

In Spring
May,
You came.
May,
Your name.
Spring essence seeping out of you,
Filling my senses until I was devoid of anything else.
I fell in love in the spring. It was a late, however warm, evening. You just moved into the unoccupied apartment to the left of me. Both had small balconies. I was reading until you interrupted, and eventually you’d come to interrupt my entire life. May was planting yellow tulips as we spoke. I learned that you plant the flowers that shade as you love the color. I found myself wondering about everything after our initial encounter.
Our second encounter, a coffee shop. It was a nice day which turned into a slight rain, still sunny. There was a rainbow in the sky. The earthy smell of the wet world wafted into the cafe, lulling me into a peaceful relaxation. You walked in, met my eyes, and waved. It was a small wave. You brought your hand close to your face and shook it ever so slightly. Your outfit was similar to mine. Yours being pink, loose shorts with a gray band tee shirt. Mine being black loose shorts and a pink shirt.
“Hey! We are opposite!” You started our second conversation, just like you started the first.
The two of us talked into the late evening. I learned you like sweets, as also apparent from your coffee milkshake. You also enjoy photography. I remember you taking a picture of us to, in your words, celebrate a new friendship. It flustered me. It was a good type, the kind you get when your crush notices you. Wait, did my love for you begin then?
You weren’t the boring, uninteresting type. You were the complete opposite. As interested in me as I was you. For a fleeting moment, everything was at peace.
Two months into our friendship we spent our first sleepover together. The night was hot, humid, and it seeped into the door causing us to be covered in a shine of sweat. I suggested moving to my apartment as my air conditioning worked properly. Needless to say, we did. It was fun. We stayed up all night after taking a marajuana edible then watching as many horror related things as possible. Movies, internet videos, we even read internet stories to each other. We eventually passed out in the early hours of the morning, waking up glad neither of us had work.
Our third month of friendship, sleepovers were common by then. Often staying together days at a time. It was sometime in the third month that you uttered your love for me. We were over at your place. It was around dinner, you made us a simple meal, just some sandwiches. I noticed around that time that meals always tasted better when I was with you.
It was after we ate that you confessed to having something to say.
“Vivianna,” she almost never called me by my full name, often opting for Vivi. “I’ve fallen in love with you.”
Love between two girls? More importantly, did I love you too? She looked, waiting for my response. By then, I never knew what I felt. Was I in love with her? Thoughts swarmed my mind.
“Do you,” she hesitated. “Do you want to go on a date with me?”
“Yes,” I had said before I could even think.
Then started our romance.

A Place for Vanishing review

5/5 stars Recommended if you like: horror, fantasy horror, ghosts, spooky reads, haunted house
Big thanks to Netgalley, Delacorte Press, and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
TW suicide attempt, suicidal ideation
I read Fraistat's debut, What We Harvest last year and really enjoyed it, so I was excited when this book was announced. Both of them fall into that middle category of 'horror' and 'fantasy' that I can tolerate without getting (too) freaked out.
This story focuses on the new house Libby and her family move into. Or, rather, the old house that's new to them. The house has been in the family for generations, but was left largely abandoned after Libby's grandparents died when her mom was a child. From there the mysteries grow. Doors that close on their own, stained glass windows as beautiful as they are creepy, the bugs that just don't seem to die, and, of course, the way people seem to simply vanish from the house itself. The main plotline revolves around the mysteries of the house. It's 'haunted' in an odd sort of way, but there's a magical sort of wonder to it as well. I enjoyed learning how the bugs and the masks and the disappearances all tied together, and was surprised at the mystery.
Libby, despite her many misgivings, wants things to be alright. Her family has already had a rough time of the past couple of months, and while everything in her rebels against staying in the house, she's determined to do it for her mom and younger sister, Vivi. Vivi and Libby are, or were, clearly very close, and it comes through just how much Libby loves her younger sister. Libby is struggling with more than just the house though. After weeks/months of spiraling that culminated in a suicide attempt, Libby is now trying to find her way back to stability. While she's enrolled in therapy and taking medication to help with her cyclothymia, there's no quick road to recovery and Libby still has moments when those darker impulses intrude.
Vivi is several years younger than Libby, and has a fairly bubbly, optimistic personality. She's eager to still believe in magic, and while she's as wary of the house as Libby, she's also captivated by the strange masks around the house. Despite her loving nature, she's fairly angry at Libby at the start of the book, though part of this anger is a desperate attempt to reach her sister and try to understand and reconnect. Vivi has a ferociousness about her that comes out as the book progresses, and it's clear she has a deep love for her mom and sister, with the bravery to prove it.
Flynn, the next door neighbor boy, immediately gives off weird vibes. He knows more about the house than he should, and more about the spirit world than he lets on. It was kind of hard to like him at first, what with all that gaslighting going on, but he ended up being a good guy. Once they're past all that, Flynn comes across as someone who genuinely cares and has a softness about him that peeks through even when he's not at his best. His connection to the house is similar to Libby's, and once they've teamed up, the secrets of the house begin to reveal themselves.
This book is definitely a haunted house book, and like all good hauntings, the ghosts of the house mirror the ghosts in the characters' heads. I enjoyed the symmetry between the masks and the personal demons each character had to face inside themselves. I also appreciated how the haunting acted alongside and in conjunction with the internal character arcs for most of the characters.
Overall, this is a nice spooky story and I'm glad I got the ARC around spooky season. The story mainly deals with a creepy, haunted house and mental health. There's some light possession but honestly....that's kind of the least of anyone's worries, lol. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a good fantasy horror story.
