I’m not the only one who never forgave Taryn for what she did to Jude right? Like with Valerian and Locke, yeah I despised them, but it’s not like I truly expected them to be better. But taryn was jude’s family. Her twin. And it makes it worse that Jude was always so savagely loyal to Taryn when Taryn wouldn’t do the same for her. Like Jude straight up shoved Cardan into a tree without thinking because he made her sister cry. Whereas Taryn not only didn’t help Jude, was the reason she was suffering and sincerely didn’t see how she was being awful??? I was honestly hoping when they duelled that Jude would rightfully beat the shit out of taryn because of all the ways she’d let Jude down. It still makes me mad to think about. Jude just deserved better. Ugh.

It's been announced that the streamer formerly known as HBO Max is partnering up with AMC+ for a limited time digital pop-up.

From Sept. 1st through Oct. 31st, a slew of AMC/AMC+ series are going to Max. The titles are:

What is series two all about? Just like series one we are on the quest to uncover the truth of our favourite amnesiac Elliot's (Dornan) past, this time in Ireland. May I just say a big thank you for your love of Taryn because I too really liked her when I read the books and I was sad at how many people disliked her: she is far too misunderstood by people and I could go off on one about the double standards people have for Taryn vs Jude (probably because Jude is our pov character and so when she plays a Faerie's game to survive, she's respected by the reader, but when Taryn does it - although differently to her sister - and is pushed away by Jude, the reader pushes her away)

Anyway, not the full rant because I don't want to fill up for askbox 😅

Oh you are totally welcome, my friends and I often go on rants about how irrational the amount of hate Taryn gets is. Everyone is allowed to dislike characters, but the way people misinterpret her instead of just saying "I dislike her" is incredible. Someone once accused me of "stanning a manipulative abuser". Like. She just lied and cheated just like every other character in that series it's Not That Serious lol

The stolen heir review- this may contain spoilers

So, I just finished reading the stolen heir and I cannot say how happy I was to go back to Elfhame and see those characters- tho I have to admit it was a bummer to not see jude and cardan- Madoc didn't change a thing but I loved Oak, the way he's doing everything in his power(being very stupid and reckless) to protect his family just melts my stupid heart.

But now to the story, I liked it a lot and I'll totally wait for the next book biting my nails but I didn't think it was as good as the first three books. I totally called the plot twist in this one so I wasn't shocked like I was in the others what didn't make it as fun to read, and I didn't find that the plot was good enough to drop everything and not stop reading and I think it's bc I just couldn't connect with Wren the way I did with Jude, when I was reading my girl's story I would totally agree and be by her side the whole time and the fact that i don't feel the same about Suren may have gotten in the way, it's not that i dont like her or that she's not a good character it's just that it wouldn't be as thrilling to see her acting even when she had her big get to power moment i was to busy disagreeing with what she was doing to enjoy it.

Anyway, the book is great, I know y'all will read it and love it, and in here we stan Tiernan, so if you don't like him or is thinking about throwing your shady judgment on my kid we'll have words

Happy 57th Birthday Scottish actress Shirley Henderson.

Shirley was born 24th November 1965 in Forres, Moray, but grew up in Kincardine, Fife, she began performing young and at the age of 13 found herself singing in a boxing ring between bouts after winning a local singing competition going on to sing in the local working men’s clubs on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. Reading through a few interviews I found it interesting that her big days out as a youngster was going to the York Cafe in the town I live, Falkirk, the cafe is still there, but has been through a few changes in ownership since I came here 8 years ago.

Anyway back to the lass herself, after deciding upon acting as a career, she uprooted to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

After graduating in 1986 Henderson embarked upon a stage career that included spells at the National Theatre, the Royal Court, the Traverse, Hampstead, the Citizens, and the Whitehall Theatre.

I first remember her in Hamish Macbeth where she played Isobel Sutherland, who was head over heels in Robert Carlyle's character, though he didn’t know it, she bowed out in the penultimate episode.

There are very different roles that you might remember Shirley from, in my case she played Gail in the two Trainspotting films, if you need another reminder who she was, well remember Spud’s girlfriend and the incident with “dirty” bedding that he wanted to was and got into a tugging contest?

Other film fans will know Shirley as Moaning Myrtle in a couple of the Harry Potter films.  Romcom fans will know her for her role as Jude in Bridget Jones’s Diary  who is always in the ladies’ room crying about her boyfriend.

She has of course been in numerous other shows and films including Wish Me Luck, Casualty, The Bill, Rob Roy, Dr Who, Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, Happy Valley and she plays Lucille Hardy, wife of Oliver Hardy about the comedy duo, called Stan and Ollie. 

Shirley is a busy lassie, she has recently been in  Lovely Little Farm, on Apple TV,  The  2022 comedy mystery film See how they run, and the excellent Channel 5 drama The House Across the Street. 

Next up for oor Shirley is a new adaptation of Tom Jones, from the makers of Poldark, it is of course based on Henry Fielding's 1749 novel,  Dune: The Sisterhood as prequel to the original for HBO Max and a Brit-flic set in London,  The Trouble with Jessica is a comedy about the dissolving relationship of two couples.

Shirley has a great attitude and has said;

“ I never get the tall, blonde, glamorous roles because I'm not tall, blonde and glamorous. I'm more the wee, disturbing characters because of the way I look or sound.” And as a Scot;

“I like doom and gloom with a sense of humour. Maybe it's a Scottish thing, we like to undercut indulgence with a laugh.” And on fame;

“I like to be left alone,” she tells me at one point. “I’m happy to be anonymous and just to lead my own wee quiet life.”

My review of the Secrets of Dumbledore (it’s a bit cluttered so beware)

I don’t get what they were trying to do with the whole Germany supporting Grindewald. Like this would be after World War Two and grindewald is kind of a knock off hitler and crap so wouldn’t that be a bit suspicious? Like I get there were nazi sympathizers back then but not the whole fucking country? To make it more realistic they should’ve had more people protesting against him and being ignored like the real world did which can actually convey a true story. And about that, like this movie didn’t even feel like a story, more like someone telling you stuff. It was such a weird piece of film and honestly just not made that well. The writing was literal dogwater and Theseus, Leeta’s literal husband, never once mentioned her??? Or grieved over her??? Like the only mention of her was from her brother who got zero screen time i was not invested in his character at all. But I did notice for the first time that Jacob was Polish!!! I was unbelievably happy do you know how much Polish representation there is in media? Pretty much none so this was great. I did like a few characters in this movie, mostly because they were good actors, Theseus, Newt, Jacob, the one teacher lady, Credance. Dumbledore was a fucking coward as always but we stan a Scottish king and Jude Law is a good actor. The new dude who plays Grindewald is good at being scary and is an actual good actor but you know Johnny Depp shouldn’t have been fired. Bunty was so annoying like I don’t even know why she was in this movie at all. Also did they just throw all the previously established laws about magic out the roof because I see them doing crazy shit that is not explained. Like that weird teardrop thing? WHAT WAS THAT!?!!!?! Literally so weird. Also I don’t know why wizards are so stupid they put a dragonfly in a lamp and are like ho ho there we go light (but twist it will run out (and btw kill the dragonfly in it maybe? So messed up) and then you’re dead) like oh my god just use a normal lamp bro. Why do you have to make things so complicated. Also what was even the point of giving Jacob a wand if he never used it? I did like the sibling relationships in this, like the Scamander brothers were literally so iconic. And the Dumbledore brothers with Albus like recounting shit and Aberforth being like “hello bitch i know we literally grew up together” and the scene where it’s like “ah yes Aberforth will cook you his finest recipe” and it’s literally dogshit lmao. Anyway I rate this movie a 3/10, three suitcases out of ten magic erotic scorpion things.

I've been remembering the pleasures of weirdgirldom. what do you think about carter baizen

i love him, we should've gotten more of him, he was really interesting &. the wasted potential of having seb stan play a character like baizen, sleazeball w/ a heart of gold, but making him such a minor character is just. :(

carter/serena is my #1 serena ship as far as endgame ships go, i would've loved for the show to end with carterena, or with serena being single but being happy w/o a boyfriend. i feel like carter was one of the only people who saw serena just for serena, and not as ✨ Manic Pixie Dream Girl Serena van der Woodsen ✨ - so i liked that.

i also loved the brief blair/carter we got, and how blair was just. all over the place and carter actually wasn't bad to her at all, despite serena and chuck's concern.

carter/nate, though? ahhhh, what a tragedy. baizen my man broke natie's heart so badly. i love the angst potential, but i always feel a little sad on nate's behalf.

anyway, ships aside, i feel like he could've been a really interesting character. being a few years older than most of the main crew, he could've brought in some more layers of history re: constance/st jude's history and culture, in the way that alumni can do, and it would've been a valuable and interesting sort of insight to have carter show what things were like, while we see blair's era pave way for jenny's era pave way for sage's era (i hate sage spence but whatever). like. who came before blair? old serena being queen s, maybe. but who came before that? carter could've opened a lot of interesting narrative doors if he'd been given main character status and that kind of space within canon.
