As a Chinese, I hate wlw/mlm cdramas

The homophobic & transphobic policies in China are systematic, queer identities are erased by the government, so trans murders in China are silenced, the reason why gays committed suicide are censored, lgbtq communities are shut down by the authorities, outed queer employees are kicked out of their schools and jobs. The government even documents queer students in colleges, queer people are literally living in a living hell. And those wlw/mlm cdramas, they queerbait as if China is so lgbt-friendly and carefully erased queer identities but turn queerness into “sisterhood”“brotherhood”, they keep scrolling through the mainstream internet and pain me everyday.

We are killed, silenced, discriminated EVERY DAY and mainstream using well-censored ambiguously hinted queerness to make a profit. It’s not even profitable activism it’s just homophobic capitalism with Censorship. Don’t get me started on the homophobic&transphobic&biphobic comments and hate speech circulating in both fandoms and non fandoms every single day. And because of queerbaiting, these cdramas are ultimately homophobic and misogyny, reeking heteronormativity and having nothing to do with fighting against massive homophobia in the country. Even worsening it.

I had enough. They are not my representation. They are reminders of how this country mistreat us and exploit us.

That's sooo crazy because I have this little spreadsheet I'm working on where I'm trying to document all media with protagonists/major characters who are FTM or transmasculine.

The spreadsheet currently has 200+ entries spread across the following categories:

Books

Manga

Memoirs and non-fiction

Movies

TV Shows

Graphic novels / Comics

Webcomics

Audio dramas

Books and movies are also sorted by:

Which character is trans (MC, love interest, antagonist, etc)

If the trans character is POC

The trans character's sexuality (Because I saw lots of transhet guys sad about only being able to find gay romances)

If the author/actor is also trans (if we know for sure)

It's free to use, and free to add to as well! Editing permissions are on, and I check on the spreadsheet every now and then to make sure everything is in order and to clean up.

If you know something that isn't on the list, please add it! You don't have to fill in every single column, but fill it to the best of your abilities.
