Alright. So as you can see from the explosion of my blog, I'm back. So I did in fact see the new episode of Helluva boss and the music video and I'm not gonna talk about them. Why? Because they both encase the same fucking issues as EVERYTHING else.

What I am gonna talk about however is the basics of what I personally enjoy about Helluva Boss, why I have that opinion, AND what I don't like, and why I have that opinion as well.

What I do like:

- I enjoy, unlike some others, the colors. I do love saturated colors. I think it is beautiful and one reason I'm so disappointed in the show, because I can't enjoy it with everything else. I like this because it reminded nds me of the Legend of Spyro the first two games anyway. I love those games because the scenery was gorgeous to look at. The gameplay was a bitch so I'm at least happy I had nice stuff to look at while I was PISSED.

- I do enjoy the lack of censorship and honestly I wish it had more. Not gonna lie before the show pooped it's pants in the race, I was expecting nudity or sex scenes? I'm from the furry community soooo. I was also expecting real adult topics but we'll get to that. I was expecting that because, nudity and sex is part of life. And sex actually plays a huge role in personal personality traits in a character imo.

- I enjoy the voice actors and their talents. It's hard to find, or it used to be hard to find good voice actors in indie animation. I'm not big on celebrity promotion because I think personally indie should be pulling some fresh talent to its feet and helping those who really want to but can't get in the "professional Hollywood scene"

- I enjoy the animation cause holy crap, do these animators have talent. Some of the designs and effects they have to do, like in the music video, are beautiful.

What I don't like

- the designs. Character designs are supposed to say something about a character, convey them as people, or tell you something about the environment. Now I understand everyone has an art style but bodies and faces vary even in style, and especially in a fantasy world. Same goes for clothing and accessories, UNLESS the fashion for a certain time calls for similarities. All of the characters in Helluva Boss have the same features AND they are over-cluttered with un necessary add one. Why I don't like that- because characters SHOULD be varied for at least 1 reason: 1 because looks define a character on the outside, maybe the inside too but good writing can sell a narrative that is composed of (what I look like on the outside and who I truly am on the inside).

- the swearing. Good god. I swear LIKE A TRUCKER. I DONT CARE ABOUT PROFANITY OR SEX JOKES. However, in a piece of media, yet again, a character's dialogue, body language, and how they speak tells you something about the character and or their environment. For Example from Lackadaisy pilot: all of the characters. ALL OF THEM except for one, looks bad sounds like they belong there. The character who doesn't seem like they fit in? ROCKY! BUT THATS GOOD! Because from what I've seen, he's a black sheep. He seems like hes not supposed to fit in. That seems to be his whole struggle. Now For example from Helluva Boss: Blitzo swearing is good. He's a profane dickhead. It fits him. However Moxie? Moxie is portrayed to be innocent and kinda soft. He should stay that way to foil Blitzos character. Striker swearing? Fine but watch what he says. Country folk swear differently than City folk. Stolas swearing? The aristocratic rich try to swear different than the poor because they have a level of decorum to follow amongst one another. They see themselves as better than you so they try and act like it. They try to hide their profane ways. If youre gonna have swearing and sex jokes make sure whatever swear or joke is coming out of someone's mouth fits their personality. If it's out of character, then have that character have a reaction. Like a Catholic who says God damn for the first time in a heated argument.

- the callous attitude toward serious problems. I'll list a few big ones. 1: sexual assault. 2: alcoholism. 3: Classism. 4: Incest?. I don't like the joking manner of sexual assault, the callous disregard for a plot based on coerced rape, the jokes on alcoholism, or the jokes and callous disregard for how the show portrays Classism. why? 1: I was a sexual assault victim along with MANY of my friends. 2: my dad just struggled with alcoholism and died of liver failure and it is much more graphic and heart breaking than people understand. Nothing will make you feel more defeated than battling with an alcoholic, still loving them, then watching them die while your whole family suffers. 3: I'm a poor person who struggles against Classism. I'm not a minority but from what I see other minorities suffer and say about this, and what I know about the history of racism in my country, this needs to be addressed especially when adding Classism and coerced rape into the mix. 4: it seems like there are A LOT of incest implications in the second season. Obvious reasons to not like it. Now it it was played on well, and ADRESSED narratively?

- the behind the scenes allegations. Obvious reasons why I don't like that, but I have now way to know what true and what isn't. However, you can tell A LOT about a creator by what they write and more importantly HOW they write it.

And one more note: I wouldn't care about this shows flaws at all if it wasn't trying to take itself seriously and ouch us into liking these irredeemable characters. If it WAS just a raunchy, shock humor comedy like say Robot Chicken? Then weeeeeee have fun. Robot Chicken IS. NASTY. and I love it! But it doesn't have a serious plot. Even when Family Guy tries to do serious plots, the tone still remains where it is when it needs to. Brian was a dickhead but it was genuinely sad the way they portrayed his death. And the show was good in it's first seasons imo. In my OPINION. I used to like the show but...it ran too long. And that's Helluva Bosses problem. It's running too long. It was supposed to be a short comedy focused on IMP. AND then they tried to make it a plot to run for a while. If done well, great, it could've been great. But it is clear the writers DO NOT have the life experience and or the reflection and maturity to write these seriously heavy topics. Helluva Boss comes off as a fetish comic, the ones I'm not unused to seeing in the furry community. Don't get me wrong, some comics are actually pretty good buuuuut it's obviously porn so the story gets lost alot lol. This show shouldn't feel like an E621/ Yaoi comic/hentai. But it does...

SO yeah. That's my opinion on the whole show so far and honestly I'm not sure if gonna even watch it anymore. We shall see.

My Marshall Collection! (June, 2022)

It's been a while since I've shown off my Marshall collection! Things are a little different now, so I figure now's as good a time as any!

For those of you that missed it, I recently replaced my old display case because the sides were starting to bulge. Fortunately, I was able to find another one for a low price, not to mention it looks much nicer, too! It was about six inches wider though, so it couldn't fit in the same spot. To give everything more space, I ended up rearranging my entire room to place my collection on the opposite wall. Imo, I think it looks better than it did before!

And much like the last time I posted pics of my collection, I figured I'd briefly talk about each section. Well, let's get started!

Over on the left, you'll find the majority of my plush dolls, as well as a few other things here and there. Not too much has changed, except I was able to make the shelves on the wall much wider, so now I can fit more up there whenever I purchase more plush dolls (or other items, such as a few Marshall backpacks I have my eye on).

Over in the corner, you'll find some books! For these, I decided to focus on ones that center around Marshall, or he's the biggest pup featured on the cover. In truth, I'll be replacing this bookshelf eventually, since there's not much room left for the other books I plan on purchasing. Hopefully I'll find something that'll work out better.

This mini shelf seen one of the bigger changes. Previously, it had a bunch of plush dolls, but I decided to relocate them in order to make room for DVDs! Much like the books, I focused on ones about Marshall or he's the biggest pup featured on the cover. And similar to the books, I have a few more I plan on buying despite the little room I have left. Yeah... I'm not sure how I'll solve this issue yet. lol

This smaller bookshelf is a new addition. I originally had other plans for it, but because my new display case is too tall to place the larger plush dolls on top again, I had to relocate them here.

In the middle of my collection is my TV, once again showing off my Laptop wallpaper! And of course, my Ready Race Rescue theatrical poster is right above it! There's a window right behind it, so just pretend those are theater curtains or something. lol

On the right, we've got my new display case... but before that, take a look at the items on the wall next to it! Also, I had to retake this picture later, and I totally forgot to turn the TV back on. Oops!

Here, you'll find my EMT Marshall wall art, the badges that came with some figurines, two walkie-talkies, artworks sent to me by a friend, and a bunch of framed pictures I printed off. Seeing as how the new display case doesn't stick out as far as the old one, I was able to fit in a few more, though I replaced a few, too. The new pictures include Sheep-disguise Marshall, EMT Marshall, Marshall sleeping with Squeakin'Beam, Marshall covered in stickers, and still one of my personal favorite outfits, Marshall in his Rescue Knights armor!

On the bottom of the Display case, we've got Marshall's many vehicles! I decided to rearrange them a bit differently this time, so most of them are all together now. I had to stick two on the floor, but I kinda like it like that.

Because the new display case is wider, I was able to get both his Ultimate Fire Truck and Movie Fire Truck on the same shelf. I decided to place the True Metal vehicles in front of them. The smaller, plastic vehicles were placed elsewhere.

Above that, you'll find the majority of the figurines! Many of them are Marshall wearing his usual fireman gear, but of course, there are so many other outfits on display, such as him in his Ultimate Fire Gear, his Pup-Fu Gi, all versions of his Mighty Pups super suits, Rescue Knights, Dino Rescue, Moto Pups, etc.! That new step shelf I made for them a few months ago doesn't fill up the entire shelf, so I stuck one of those big toys at the end to fill up the space. I think it works!

Nearing the middle, we've got the biggest shelf housing most of my bigger, non-plush items. The Marshall-shaped shampoo bottle (imported from the UK), two bubble makers, ceramic piggy (puppy?) banks, bobble heads, an alarm clock, that large piñata I always struggle to find a spot for, that large multi-color face lightbulb, among other things. The smaller vehicles were relocated here, since there wasn't much room for them with the other vehicles.

Many other various items are right above that, including a talking coin bank (also imported from the UK), coffee mugs, bath toys, a bunch of Christmas ornaments, some candy dispensers, etc.. Admittedly, this is my favorite out of all the shelves.

Nearing the end of my collection, we've got this final shelf displaying additional items, such as the lunch boxes, Good2Grow bottles, the many mini figurines found in those mystery boxes. etc..

Last, on the very top of the display case, we've got the final batch of plush dolls, including the one I recently found for $1 that I cleaned and sewed up!

And there you go! As Tumblr has a limit of ten images per post, I'm unable to focus on everything I wanted to talk about, so hopefully this does the job well enough. But to think, they've released so much merchandise of one character... and yet, I'm still nowhere close to owning everything of Marshall! Crazy thought, huh?

To say this least, I see this collection as a testament to just how crazy I am about the character. I know I say this often, but this spotted pup really is my #1 favorite animated character of all time! He means a lot to me, which is why I made these MarshallPupFan accounts, why I post daily pics of him, why I enjoy showing off his merchandise, and why I even went as far to purchase my own Marshall mascot costume to represent him in my town's parade (that plan's still pending, however). Seriously, I just love this character to death! In my eyes, he's one of the greats, and I can't imagine PAW Patrol being anywhere near as good without him!

it doesn't sound rude! very valid question. and also a very loaded one

jason todd is simultaneously one of my favorite and least favorite characters of all time, and i’m going to take this opportunity to ramble aimlessly about my (mostly negative) feelings about him and how he’s written in modern comics because it haunts me every day <3

and knowing how fans of the bat people can be, this really feels like kicking a hornet's nest so quick disclaimer: THIS IS JUST MY OPINION! not a personal attack on people who like jason as he is now and oh my god i cannot stress to you enough how much i absolutely do not want to argue with people about this lol

jason when he was first introduced is honestly one of my all time favorite characters. he was solid and interesting and he had so much potential. imagine for a moment a world where everything didn’t suck and we got jason staying as a sometimes-ally-most-times-antagonist to the batfam instead of being shoehorned back into their ranks. (imagine. if dc allowed its characters to have complex personalities and relationships again. ever.)

instead of that, the second he was out of winick's hands, with few exceptions, other writers pretty much IMMEDIATELY started stripping him of everything that made him interesting and turned him into essentially just another stock villain running around doing shit that made no sense for his character when they needed someone to shove into the role of antagonist.

(and don’t get me wrong: he should be an antagonist 99% of the time imo, but... y’know. preferably in a way that like. makes sense for him. at all.)

then lobdell clowned his way onto the scene with the final nail for his coffin and now we have a jason todd who doesn't really ever use guns, doesn’t kill, doesn't seem to have any real problems with bruce or his code, and isn't even in gotham most of the time.

there's really no point to the modern iteration of jason. he's essentially just a worse version of dick. nobody has any idea what to do with him like he is now because there’s really not much there to... do anything with. he's a hollowed out shell of a character because we need him to fit nicely into the batfam, and all that pesky character motivation and drive gets in the way of that. god forbid a story have conflict beyond the occasional snarky one-liner

sometimes, other characters will say something about how crAaAaAzy jason is or how he’s the black sheep of the batfam or he’ll be referred to as an “anti-hero,” but he never... does anything? like he’s really no different than any of the other squeaky-clean bats at this point. just fully sanitized

the only thing even slightly setting him apart from everyone else is his murder, so they bring that up at every opportunity to give him some sort of defining feature, but they can't do it in any logical way because then they'd have to stray into anti-hero territory and put him at odds with the batfam, so it's only in the most ridiculously superficial ways possible.

it's just like... him bringing up his death constantly is funny until you realize the writers are doing it so often because it's pretty much the only character trait he has left lol

the only real constant with modern jason is that everybody who comes within 30ft of him starts acting stupid and wildly out of character because he may be the most badly written and nonsensically characterized bitch of all time, but he's got a big fanbase, so writers want him to be the best, most specialest boy in the world at all times to appease them, and the only way they seem to know how to do that is by bringing down the iq of everyone around him so he'll look good in comparison.

it's gotten to the point where seeing he's going to be in a book feels like a bad omen because 9 times out of 10, anything he's in has absolutely shit writing because he's just GOT to be the strongest, smartest person in the room even when the room is full of gods, superpeople, and heroes who've been doing this shit 10x as long as he has.

it was already annoying BEFORE he "reformed," when he actually arguably had the slightest bit of an edge by virtue of usually being more ruthless and willing to cross lines than the heroes he'd fight, but now he doesn't even have that.

there's just nothing special or interesting about him! he does nothing! he's boring! and for no good reason! there’s so much they could be doing with him, but instead he’s..... sitting there. in bruce's shadow. stagnating. it's so annoying. he's just... an amalgamation of pretty much everything wrong with modern comics for me

sooooo to answer the question: i liked him a lot, but as far as i'm concerned, bruce killed him with that batarang to the neck at the end of the under the red hood arc, and there's been some sort of shapeshifter/bizarro version of him running around ever since, and that character, i despise

apologies, i'll elaborate! i think most would agree on the borzoi - that one wolf-skinwalker russian breed which looks like a cross between an angel and a worm-on-a-string

but personally? i think fyodor would be perfect as one of those scrawny, Mephistopheles typa black dogs people write folklore about; maybe a belgian shepherd (or just a black borzoi after all)

now for sigma, a dalmatian would be v cool! but yosano already claimed that one, so i think id assign him one of those smartass sheep herding dogs that can memorize 420 words and people love to stress to death on those tv tournaments. I think thats v sigma coded

I see, both the Borzoi and the Belgian Shepard have such a distinct look but the Belgian Shepard looked cuter imo. I am seeing your theme of having him be very striking and kinda odd looking though in wan!dog form and I like it. (And a longer beautiful black coat of course).

I did forget which were already taken in the wan dog au, so that makes sense! Dalmatian can't be an option then if it is one breed per character. Tbh your idea does sound very much like Sigma in terms of temperament and how they are put through the ringer so, yes I'll accept it 🙏😌

i feel like far too often, he’s painted as this super innocent/naive guy, or a completely calculated and cunning dude. he’s definitely a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but he also is an easily flustered bunny. it’s his duality that’s makes him so interesting (imo), and you’re the first one who I’ve seen who’s properly captured that! even if it’s just innocent teasing, he is kinda cheeky but in a sweet way. just the vibe he gives off is super unique and personally i love the way you write him!!!

Thank you! I don't really see him as super calculated either, like yeah he does have thoughts to what he wants and how he wants things to go, and he can be teasing, but I feel like he's 25% innocent, 25% calculated, and 50% vibes and testing his luck. Ohhhh, he's opportunistic! That's the word. 😂

I honestly love that we finally get a soft-looking cute boy, who is also shown to still have urges. It's nice he's not infantilized and that he can actually be sort of dommy. Then, when I have the urge to bully someone, Rafayel is right around the corner. 💙

I've read a few fics by different authors about Robert, and I'm kinda confused. They portray him in different ways, so what's his personality like in different aspects? I know that he's extroverted (I saw him getting typed as an ENFJ) and extra, and has a warm heart, but what about his flirtiness and apparent hedonism? How does his rural ideals contrast with touring? I know people are multifaceted and no one's flawless, but I still wanna know some things for certain.

Oh dear Anon, you have made my day! These are great questions about my favorite subject in the world: Robert Plant.:D And as far as that goes, I could (and will) go on and on about this forever, I’ve got so much to say!!

I’ve been obsessed with Robert’s music as well as with his personal life for years. I find him to be a multifaceted, highly talented and intelligent person who embodies traits that one would think were mutually exclusive, yet are somehow at home in him. He is without a doubt, totally outrageous and extroverted, he wants to be the center of attention, yet he is also reclusive, a deep thinker who is keenly aware of the world around him while also being introspective and self-aware. In his own words he has said

“It's part of me to get off on those moments where... well, what people would call attention. Obviously, that isn't the be-all and end-all of life, but at the states of creativity that I've reached, well, it helps the lyrics along a little bit.”

“ I’m pleased with how ridiculous I am. I like me. Though I’m not a huge fan. I know when to switch me off.”

I do think he has a very warm heart. He is genuinely interested in other people, in experiencing the most out of any given situation.

In my opinion, he loves the idea and the feeling of falling in love. He gets off more on that than on the longevity of it. It’s like he’s got ADHD in the aspect of love lol!! I say this because of the number of serious relationships (and not so serious relationships) that he has had in his life. I’m sure he was saddened when they ended, but then he’s moved on to the next great infatuation and adventure. He’s quite capable of starting again, as he has shown multiple times both in his personal and professional life. But I also think it’s a testimony to his heart that he’s been able to continue to be friends with his past loves. “There have been people I've warmed to over the years but, as the situation I'm in is so fleeting and transient, I've always known it's going to be over kind of real quick.”

I mean think about this: after having children with two sisters, Maureen (his exwife) and Shirley, they have been able to raise their children in what looks like a loving extended family. His sons, Logan (with Maureen) and Jesse (with Shirley), are half-brothers as well as first cousins. Just think on that for a moment. In a recent picture, there’s the entire family on vacation: Maureen, Shirley and their children with Robert, as well as Robert and a previous girlfriend, Jessica something or other (don’t remember her name). He’s not confined to societal conventions. He could give a flying fuck. I love that free spirit and he himself has said (and I paraphrase) that he may come across as being a good mate, but in reality he’s out to do whatever the fuck he wants. (And it shows!! )

He says, “...if you do what you think is right for the benefit of everybody and everything and you make decisions, then to go back and regret them afterwards - it's a futile experience and it's not worth thinking about. Because life just unfolds. Provided you do your best and you think you're on the right track, you can only be right or wrong. But to regret it - I don't think there are any huge errors or misdemeanors.”

In the area of friendship, however, he is fiercely loyal. He and Bonzo were like brothers till the end, and even still, Robert honors his dear friend. He’s also been able to maintain friendships with so many people from his hometown- people he knew before he was famous. He puts away the trappings of fame and fortune to be the good old Black Country boy, riding horses and playing with goats, walking around in the forests and enjoying nature.

“I think I could sing and shear a few sheep at the same time.” he says. He is the picture of the word “earthiness”. Able to be the rock god on stage as well as the humble farmer on the farm or at the local pub. He’s loyal to his soccer team and to the sport itself which has been a lifelong passion. I love that in him.

Is he a hedonist? Absolutely!! he has tasted every pleasure there is to taste. His every material wish could be a reality in an instant...He has done drugs, had hundreds of one night stands. He is a highly sensual man. IMO the sexiest man that’s ever walked the planet. His sizeable bulge perpetually stands as a symbol (no pun intended) of his virility and lust (and I like it!!) He exudes charisma and raw sexual energy. He’s done it all to the highest level, partied and cavorted around the globe. What a life he’s lived!!

But he is also soulful- in his lyrics there is also a deep spiritual side of him: I think he is a modern day troubadour and philosopher. His lyrics touch on that, “it is the springtime of my loving” ….“In the light you will find the road” “when all is one and one is all” “Then as it was, then again it will be, though the course may change sometimes, rivers always reach the sea” and I could go on and on with other examples. These are just what popped in my head. “I am a reflection of what I sing. Sometimes I have to get serious because the things Ive been through are serious” He’s experienced moments where he is the “golden god” as well as tragic moments such as the loss of his 5 year old son and the loss of his dear friend Bonzo. These are definitely reflected in his music.

And finally, in his own words:

“I'm like one of those firecrackers that goes off in your pocket occasionally. I'm not really struggling with it as much as the people around me. But at least I'm not doing too much damage to anybody or to myself. It's just the condition I'm aware of."

And he’s still got a twinkle in him and always will.

Thank you for letting me go and on about this man, he holds such a special place in my heart. He is a beautiful and joyous old hippie full of wisdom and talent. He has created a lasting legacy and I hold the deepest admiration for him, despite his human frailties or shortcomings.

Owl was the front runner the whole way through this survey, but most of the time by a very beatable margin. The 40 or so people who voted in the last night really tipped it over, it was a tight race! And the results are crazy split imo, a quarter of votes constitutes a win! I love the different opinions and ideas we all have so so much

Ram/sheep came in a hearty second with 16.5% of the vote

After that it gets a little murky, so I’m going to share the second graph I made when is every animal that got more than 1% of the vote. So it’s the top six animals

The second question let you vote for as many options as you thought were appropriate for Aziraphale! So, there were a lot more write-ins! It’s crazy!

I’m using google sheets so I can’t get it to show you every name, but the raw data will be in a read more so you can scroll through everyone’s beautiful imagination there

Again, Owl winds with a solid 20% of the vote. Ram/Sheep coming in with about 15%, followed by Moth, Magpie, Goat, Lion, then Tortoise.

Tortoise was 11th in the first round, tied with Snake (but pale), and managed to surprise me by coming through so strong in the second. Slow and steady, baby.

Nearly everyone who wrote in about Magpies told me that Magpies hoard stuff, so it’s nice to see the hive mind at work there!

Five people told me they were voting goat because of that one piece of art by @hollow-head that shows Aziraphale scaling a bookshelf like goats do cliffs. As an artist myself I found it legitimately moving that this one image had stayed with people so strongly. That’s just beautiful. Here’s an example of just one person’s comment

One moth enthusiast took the time to give me a short essay on their choice of moth. I have included a portion of it, cos it was so great

So if I had to choose an insect, it would be a moth, preferably a Megalopygidae, also known as the Flannel Moth. They are fluffy, white-beige and look innocent and fluffy, but their larvae can cause painful inflammations. A poodle moth would also fit because it's almost pure white.

And then a DIFFERENT PERSON put this in;

the moth i had in mind is Acherontia atropos, in polish called Zmierzchnica trupia główka (meaning more or less "dusk death's head"). i have a whole symbolism planned out and stuff

So, to summarise, I suggest you take a lot of this with a grain of salt. It is not meant as an instruction to fandom or to railroad creativity. I have a narrow corner of the Good Omens fandom that I interact with, and while this quiz was up for a week I’m not sure it reached a great variety of people. About 250 folks filled it out, which was tonnes more than I expected and I love each and every one of you for filling it out!! But I have noticed that Owl was first on my list and in the free form answers the example prompt I gave included, “such as a breed of owl that specifically speaks to you,“ so I think it’s possible I did that unknowing bias thing that practiced survey folk know now to do. So, grain of salt.

I also think that if animals like Swan and Cat were in the list of options they’d’ve gotten more votes because the people who voted for those were coming up with it fresh themselves. I suspect people would’ve voted for them, but it just didn’t occur to them in the moment. In much the same way it didn’t occur to me in the moment I was writing this survey.

So people know, I got the ten or so animals that I put in the survey from searching the demon!aziraphale tag on tumblr, so it was all stuff that other people had come up with. I was trying to avoid my own bias, but i think in hindsight i could’ve done better!

Having said all that, this was all so much fun and the results are clear!!! Love a good owl!aziraphale

There were a few situations where people would write in a specific species. If I got more than one vote for the root animal I just grouped them together, but if it stayed the only vote then it kept the species. Cat got the most specific species mentioned, and in the second vote Bat had a few species mentioned (albino bat being my fave), but I ended up grouping them all just under Cat and Bat to give them a better chance of getting on the graph. There were probably a few other examples but I can’t think of them. The one exception to this is the person who wrote-in Duolingo Owl specifically. For that one I figured Owl is already pretty solid, and that’s just fucking funny, man

I was also pretty generous about some stuff. So, this person didn’t vote for Moose but they clearly regretted it so I added a vote for Moose in the second one where you could vote for multiples. They kept their Ram and Goat votes, of course, but I added Moose for them

I get very bastard energy from my demon az headcanons. Like f-ing shit up for a laugh more than anything, but otherwise indifferent. That's kinda why I like the ram/sheep/goat thing so much because it reminds me of indifference and random chaos. Or a moose. Shit, I should have written in moose

Turkish Angora cat. Magnificently fluffy, incredibly intelligent, love heights and will jump off crazy high things and land on your head, gloriously dignified until they see a string and run into a wall, love one or maybe two persons to distraction and want everyone else to fuck off, will drape themselves over their person’s shoulders and go to sleep, range from “will jump in the sea to hunt fish and has a murder pit full of seagulls they’ve massacred” to “will fall over at the sight of a baby bird”, very particular about food and will yell at you if you get it wrong. Also the breed that some asshole took three cats from and bred parent to child to make Persians. The cautionary tale has been acknowledged and we love our crazy smart, single braincelled children.

I usually imagine him as an owl because they are nocturnal (and we know that Aziraphale can easily stay awake the whole night reading). Also the image of an owl puffed up is kind of ridiculous and reminds me of him, of how an annoyed Aziraphale would look. However the options above have made me think that a lion would suit him very well, too. A lion or just a very BIG cat. I mean, he makes pleading eyes to get what he wants, likes to be confortable, is a bit of a bastard and often puts himself in awkward situations from which he needs to be rescued. He just... acts very cat-like in my opinion. Also owls and cats are both predators, but are usually imagined (or, at least cats are) as cute little creatures, just like Aziraphale is an Angel of the Lord (a Warrior, actually) but looks all soft and cute and huggable. I dunno. Maybe I just want to pet an Aziracat.

I love all the other people's thoughts about demon!Aziraphale, but what about the honey badger? I try to explain why I have it in mind for demon!azi: its name (I think it's funny, expecially in English because 'honey' can make you imagine it's something sweet (it is for me), while the 'bad' in badger can be an alarm bell (like 'be careful! It is not like it seems!')); its face (ok, who can say its face isn't cute? I think, and hope, nobody can, and like the name, it is a misunderstanding: as always, be careful, it's not like it seems!, I think demons can say something about demon!azi as like "you don't seem like a 'good' demon, you can't be, your face (animal and human) is too f-ing disgusting sweet to be a demon!", I think maybe even angel!crowley, at the beginning, can think something like this ("how in the world somebody so cute like you can be a demon?"), then he discovered how demon!azi can be a very talented demon sometimes, but in Crowley's mind azi is still his little cutie angry furry); its furry's colour (black=demon, white/grey/silver/idkitsname= color of demon!azi's wings, because even if he fell, I can't say no to his white wings 😭); it is a snake's predator (and in my mind angel!crowley is still a snake); its solitary life (demon!aziraphale is alone and he doesn't mind it, unless it's angel!crowley we're talking about, then our cute demon minds it); its behaviour (demon!azi, even if he's cute, can be a really very talented demon: honey badger is fearless and dangerous, it can fight bigger animals if there aren't other chances and it can't escape); its skin is very tough (except for a soft/safe spot, behind its neck if I remember well, that only angel!Crowley knows and sometimes he uses it to calm demon!azi down or make azi do some good deeds); its diet (it has a sweet-thooth, for honey in primis, but it can eat everything it wants... Doesn't it resemble demon!azi?); it's smart (search for Stoffle on your browser if you don't know)... Ok,I think I finish, sorry for the novel 😅

I tend to think of animals that meet three criteria: (1) they exemplify “faults” in his character exaggerated to “sins”—gluttony, greed/hoarding, sloth, (2) they are species that favor fawning or flight as a defense mechanism but can also be bold on occasion, and (3) blend very well or have a keen affinity with human society, specifically thriving in urban (i.e., city) environments. This is mostly because I can’t see “Aziraphale” in a reverse AU that doesn’t preserve some of his core traits as an angel (a little hedonistic, hoarding, anxious, etc.). So I like city-dwelling bastard animals with bonus points for relation to scripture, like a rock dove or a fox or an owl.

Owls aren't smart, and the pedant in me says not an owl. But, thinking on it, demon aspect, owls are perceived as smart, but designed as deadly silent predators, patient and solitary. So actually demon Aziraphale could take on more owlish aspects. I just like cockatoo better, since they are smart, and showy. Or a crow, although that does amusing things with Crowleys name.

Magpies are great because they’re cute and fluff themselves up (go look at Sophie the magpie) and like hoarding their favorite things but also I’ve watched one just straight up kill another bird before because corvids are sneaky little bastards with no lack of a mean streak if they’re crossed

It’s the duolingo owl, I’m so sorry op but it just is. I genuinely don’t mean to clown on your post, but this take was delivered to me in a sleep induced haze and I believe it’s the god given truth. Demon Aziraphale WOULD try to make you learn a dead language and he’d go about it in a vaguely threatening way (comment from op, you’re so fucking right dude. also, shit like this is made for clowning, i’m with you 100%)

When choosing a demon aspect for a Aziraphale, I usually tried to keep in mind the artistic tradition of which animals are linked with demons. The Good Omens team seems to have drawn inspiration from that source because all the animals we do see are either reptilian or insectoid. Those species were often shown inhabiting hellish landscapes in Renaissance and Baroque paintings. However, Aziraphale never struck me as cold or slimy or hard like an exoskeleton. Ok so the only reason I pick magpie is because those bastards are smart as hell but also know how and when to inconvenience the shit out of you, and if you gain their trust then they're absolute darlings but if they decide "nah, dont like ya" then you're basically done and you'll wake up every morning with shit on your car window. I also chose sheep/ram cuz I mean... idk it suits him. I don't remember my other choice but I'm sure I had a good reason.

I feel like a barn owl would suit him well but I'm not really sure why, I also think that a moth would suit him really well because of the whole "moth to a flame" thing and as a demon he would have gotten burned because of that attitude.

I write a reverse AU fic called Lambs to the Slaughter where Aziraphale's demonic aspect is an albino sheep! I imagine him as a mix between a wild Argali ram and the first woolly domestics. I chose an Argali because they're the largest species of wild sheep, but I wanted him to have traits of a domestic breed because he obtains his animal aspect from a sheep in Abel's flock which would be several generations down from the original wild species in Eden. I really think a sheep suits Aziraphale! They're an incredibly common animal and have been since they were first domesticated. Likewise, since the start of human history, Aziraphale has been living side-by-side with humans, providing for them, and protecting them. Due to how common they are, sheep are often unnoticed, which Aziraphale leans into. Crowley wants to stand out. He has a dedicated aesthetic and an obsession with human invention, where Aziraphale leans more towards simpler, known things and creature comforts. He fades into the background, and that suits him fine. He doesn't have to be outstanding to Heaven or to humans or even to Crowley -- it's enough to do his part, to trust in a bigger plan. People associate sheep (especially lambs) with innocence or ignorance which foils nicely to Crowley as the serpent tempting with knowledge, as well as with Aziraphale's own sharp mind and ongoing embers of faith in a system that is failing him, Crowley, and all of humanity. Sheep are, like Aziraphale, soft, cute, and hiding a hard-headed stubbornness and a surprising strength that makes them absolutely fearsome. Aziraphale is very much the sort to put his head down and push relentlessly forward regardless of the pressure and strain. Rams in particular have thick skulls to withstand the brutal force of headbutting one another in displays of dominance. While Aziraphale is clever, he's not above rolling up his sleeves and getting the job done, as messy and unpleasant as it might be (see: pulling a gun on the Antichrist). Also sheep are associated with Pan, a god associated with food, music, theatre, and the criticism thereof, which hit many of Aziraphale's personal interests and hobbies! I like the idea that in a reverse AU, the demon formerly named Aziraphale might be the original basis for Pan!

I wrote in Orangutan for the first question because if I remember correctly they are some of the most violent apes. Although I'd accept bonobo for him too. They fuck alll the time.

I keep thinking about that Black Philip quote "doest thou wish to live deliciously" because... it fits so much with the general epicurean/hedonism vibe the Fandom has for him ... but in a demonic way and also I think a lot abt that art piece (already referenced many times probably but what the hell) of him climbing his own bookshelves, it's just so good!!

Albino Lion/white lion (matches his hair). I feel like maybe I should explain why I think Lion would fit him best, lol. Lions actually are rather sedate, inactive for 20 hours of the day (see: Aziraphale reading and unmoving- yes I pulled wiki for this to make sure I didn't spout anything terribly wrong, shhh) but also there's nomad lions. Lions that range widely and move around sporadically either alone or in pairs (*looks at Crowley after apoconope*) (pairs are more frequent among males who have been excluded from their birth pride) but also I think of lions as protectors, defenders, and what is Aziraphale if not that? If not an angel who fiercely protects humans, crowley, earth? (When he finally overcomes heaven and it's abuse) lions don't hunt unless they're hungry, don't attack unless they're defending. They've been known to sit directly next to jeeps full of people and just watch them, not attacking or being aggresive.

I saw art once (I have no idea who the artist is) of Demon!Aziraphale climbing his bookcases like a goat and absentmindedly chewing on his sweater while he reads. I felt like the goat aspect suited him perfectly.

Honestly I wrote Az with a rat aspect because, well, it fits who I see demon Az as. He's not super powerful but he is very consequential, like rats carrying plague fleas (this also describes how I see Az tempting). He tries to blend into a crowd, which is arguably one way rats survive, and can get himself into places/situations that should be impossible or super difficult. Like snakes, rats have been unfairly maligned by our culture for a long time, even though they are very social with their colonies, smart, affectionate, and generally good beans. Finally, male pet rats are known far and wide as the lazier of the sexes while the girls are super curious and adventurous.

Somehow his tartan pattern becomes either his colour scheme or his coat/feather pattern.

Eurasian eagle owl. A big, unapologetic grump of an owl that is soft as soft can be underneath. Possessor of the glare to end all glares to be used in such dire situations as being interrupted when reading or being told one has "had enough cake".

ah! i can! (and again i know i get rambly feel free to follow up if any of this isnt clear)

okay yeah so as you (im assuming ur the same person thats sent the other twitterverse asks) mentioned yesterday, so much of twitterverse is about like. reputation and perception. and cherri and kobra are somewhat equal in terms of how theyre treated by the rest of the zones.

theyre both addicts, theyre both known to be lethal, kobra's got a bit more of a sociable reputation from racing and sleeping around but hes still like. not necessarily seen as a person by other joys? i touch on it a bit in. i think chapter two or three? when kobra's smoking with that roller after the race and they go "i cant believe im smoking with the kobra kid" (or whatever they say) like. its a weird celebrity worship. cherri has a bit of a worse time of it because waveheads are SO stigmatized in the zones whereas sweet tooths are like. ehhh theyre partiers that took it too far

so like. theres a lot for them to respect about each other and theres a lot of understanding that can come with being these kind of. highly stigmatized individuals and having a way that people do expect them to act. you arent really gonna have the same expectations from a person thats on the same footing as you. and most of their softest (imo) moments come around when theyre having sex bc theres a lot of intimacy inherent in that Anyway (especially once it happens more than once). im Really going benefit of the doubt that ur an adult but i still wont be too graphic here

so for instance, theres a moment where cherri asks kobra if he Actually likes having sex bc up till then (and after still but i think to a lesser degree) kobra is. really performative about how he fucks. and im not gonna say whether or not kobra having this many hookups is good or bad for him bc it varies, but cherri's pretty good at getting a read on people and it can tell that kobra isnt being 100 percent genuine. and this is like. a big moment for kobra bc its a guy that, really has no reason to actually stop and care abt what kobra wants but it still does. its a moment where kobra gets that cherri isnt going to take advantage of him (an earlier draft also touched on this when they were at the radioshack and cherri established that there was something it wouldnt do with kobra while he was high)

so ig thats like. (apart from the fact that it is really nice sex) why kobra keeps coming back? bc he consciously or unconsciously knows that cherri sees and respects him as a person and doesnt really look up to him OR look down on him. just kinda looks at him

as for cherri, its also a lot of being able to feel like its more or less an equal to kobra. like, im not sure how much it came across and if/when i do a followup ill probably explore this more but newsie and chimp (cherri's two closest relationships other than whatever it and kobra have) are SO much more put together than it is. its the black sheep/wavehead/ultraviolent/bad at talking to people/cant even really get itself around the zones without asking for a ride/fuckup of the family (affectionate). theres not really a sense of inferiority that cherri has from this but it is like. newsie takes care of it in a lot of ways and sometimes you're jsut tired of that! kobra isnt gentle with cherri, he treats it like an equal and like someone thats dangerous and capable and desirable and (going back to how stigmatized waveheads are) he treats it like its a person. (i dropped an essay abt cherri and personhood in regards to gender a LONG time ago like before i even started publishing SOA that kinda ties in)

i also hope im not spoiling things for u bc idk how far youve read but i really tried to make sure i never had kobra and cherri insult each other based on obvious insecurities. once cherri clues in to how much kobras reputation as a 'slut' bugs him it never throws that at him, neither of them really throw the waveriding and sugar at each other to try and rile one another up. like yeah, they'd probably be justified and it wouldnt be punching down bc they are, more or less, equals, but i think both of them would feel a) shitty and b) hypocritical for using shit like that as an insult

so um. to sum up its on a shallow level bc they can have really good sex with each other and on a deeper level its the kind of understanding that comes with being outcasts in different but still deeply similar ways.

fiveya obvs i ship this since this is 90% of my tua drawings lol

1. ill wait ill wait (to be the one) by georgiestauffenberg made me ship it cause holy fuck dude. I dont know if i ship them romantically when i saw them onscreen cause first of all, age difference is kinda weird lmao. Second, they dont rlly interact much outside literally the first couple of eps. But he was so soft for her, and i felt like they had so much unexplored history.

so i looked at fanfics cause i was wondering if ppl still ship it, then i liked the description of this one so i gave it a go.

Basically the premise is that vanya dates a much older man who seems to know a lot about her. And it was amazingly in character and just provided their characters some depth that u wouldnt find outside of a romantic relationship between them. (The implication of five pining while she doesnt know who he is, their missed chances when he time travelled, fives missed chances of living and having a 'normal' life bec of his own hubris, vanyas insecurity and being able to open up bec shes with someone whos known her since childhood). Its so sweet and thats how i was like, oh yep i can do so much more with these two, and what has kept me interested in drawing them etc.

2. My favourite things are the shippers cause i made some friends in the fandom who are super cool and supportive! I dont get super involved in fandoms and usually just watch from afar so finding people to talk to and muck around with in this tiny fandom is super cool 😭

Though thats not to say I havent come across some bad apples in this fandom and things that I dont like. I think thats the importance of carving out a place for yourself and ur friends in fandom tho.

Another thing I like about the ship itself, i just like the grumpy person whos soft for one person trope. Its so cute. I like all the little clues in canon on how their relationship as kids is quite warm, which is interesting cause five is basically the star student and he can be quite cold vs vanya who is the black sheep of the family.

I also like how five likes her powers even when she caused the apocalypse he spent the majority of his life in lol. Like its a popular hc that five is just a wife guy and i love that.

I see vanya as the type who has a lot of love to give, and she sometimes has unrealistic expectations of what her partner can give. Betrayal and lies really angers her, but also when her partner cannot meet her expectations of love she gets very upset bec its also an indication of how shes not good enough, or not loveable enough to be able to have this in the relationship (her insecurity means every failing always comes back to her, even if its out of her control).

I feel like five would be a level-headed person enough in the relationship to not be afraid to say 'vanya ur being stupid' (ie. the s2 confrontation lmao). Also, five's personality means she will never have to doubt his actions bec she knows hes the type who will not give u the moment of the day if hes not interested.

Not to mention they also have the whole apocalypse vs. saviour, hero/villain thing. Theres just a lot to explore!

3. I probably have several. But mostly I dont mind five being a dick to vanya bec first, even if the appeal is hes soft to her hes already kind of a dick in canon lmao. Also, vanya isnt a child. Shes grown and she can handle petty af things like five telling her shes not good at cooking lol. I also dont mind it cause I feel like people are getting too afraid to write... conflict for fear or portraying an abusive relationship or smth. Like, chill. Conflict is fine, resolving it is how u get a story. However in saying that, nobody should be obligated to write any way unless you want to! Fanfic is for comfort so if what your doing is making u happy then its good enough!

horrance which i also ship but i love the platonic and romantic relationship equally:

1. I came in tua in general not shipping anything so Im honestly not sure. I do remember someone doing a meta before s2 came out that was basically how ben acted weird when klaus summoned dave in s1 that made me go 👀 Otherwise, tua s2 rlly made me like them cause tua FED horrance shippers. Like..... the fact that klaus didnt want ben to leave him, and ben knows thats why he stayed 😢 or the fact that klaus was all over him for some reason???? Somebody also mentioned gay ben once and I resonate with that deeply. Like i get that jill exists but i resonate with gay ben deeply.

2. I love their bickering, theyre so cute together. I just like ben being angry bec hes self aware that hes got both shit and amazing taste. Shit bec he cant believes he likes Klaus (and also amazing also bec Klaus). I think the idea of them being kind of underdogs, theyre not rlly leader types and dont want to be, helps them bond together even in platonic horrance. They're both down to earth, and even tho they can annoy each other, they also know if they want a space to feel comfortable its with each other. Theyre not pressured by rivalry over leadership, or any sort of competition.

alluther. So id say i dont ship this, mostly due to the fact that im not invested? Just like all tua ships so far I rlly came out not wanting anything but platonic relationships cause I feel tua doesnt do romance very well. With alluther, theyre so cute but im not super invested in either of their chars so they havent stuck for me. I appreciate seeing them and talking about them tho, and I'm def open to exploring them further.

1. I think tua canon romances are just so lackluster 😔 Idk who writes the romances but I was just like 'nice' but afterwards I dont really think about them. I love their dance scene and the message behind it! Otherwise, theyre sweet like most of the tua romances but im not super invested, same with all the non canon ships.

2. I really feel like tua needs to decide on what their relationship is. Like, just say its incest or not and stick with it 👀 Or if you wanna support it or not, just make up ur mind. I think I would've liked it better if I found the characters more interesting. Allison especially I feel like suffers from the fact that tua just doesn't want to make her ''mean''. They want to make her supportive and are less interested in making her flawed (ie. she should've had a conflict with Vanya in s2, but the writers didnt want to write the girls fighting which is stupid imo and not what that conflict is about).

In regards to Alluther, the scene where Allison gets annoyed at Luther for sleeping with someone else felt out of line. Like, how are you marrying other people and moving on but Luther isn't allowed to? But honestly, I don't mind if they actually just acknowledge it and make it a deliberate part of Allison's trait that Allison can expect a certain loyalty automatically from other people (which can tie in to her childhood being a star, and the rumour).

Luther is a big simp for Allison, which is sweet, but at the same time it would be nice to have him explore himself for a bit, and who he is outside of the academy. Then maybe they can rekindle their relationship again as new people and see where they go from there.

3. I don't hate them, but they're ok. I'm not super invested in them, just like all the tua canon romance. But I wouldn't mind making content for them if I were a bit more invested in their characters. I love their dance scene in s1 and I feel like its super a underrated portrayal of what their relationship is meant to be. I know no one talks about it but it's just such a great scene, and I'm pretty sure the choreographer was into interpretive dance? The scene had a lot of meaning that I don't see people dig around with.

Essentially I'm pretty sure the fairy lights are obviously a throwback to their childhood together, spending time outside of Reggie. So the dance scene kind of symbolized that pocket of space they made for each other in their life (even if theyre far away, or with other people, they will always have that space for each other).

The way they danced was more like playfighting than dancing, which means their relationship isn't sensual. It's more ''pure'', and romantic. Its basically two kids rekindling their love as adults. I also think this is a response to the incest, cause in s1 tua klaus literally said that 'thank god Regg is not their real father' right before Allison and Luther meet lmao. So its kinda like saying Allison x Luther isnt supposed to be 'ohh step sibling hot' but two people who experienced the same trauma as kids and finding comfort with each other (and rekindling that love after many years).

Okay, so I swear I mean this legitimately and not rudely, but I'm curious about how you pick out your rarepairs (Kyle x Piper, Andy x Phoebe, Sheridan x Phoebe)? Is it like sticking characters in a generator and seeing if you like the dynamics or do you just have a galaxy brain that mere mortals don't comprehend?

so piper and kyle was actually not an invention of my own brain that is thanks to one or possibly two anons dating like way way back this was one of them and the other was the lone person who voted piper/kyle in my valentine's rarepair extraordinaire and it was really the valentine's one that kicked it off because i rewatched that morgue scene because of it and like. like man. There Is Something There. and then i kinda have this tendency to latch onto things kinda chew on them for a while and piperkyle was def one that's real fun to work with because the more you think about it imo the more appeal there is because just to say it point blank is like woah wait what the fuck but to break both of them down especially tracking piper's evolution as we've seen it as she becomes more jaded and bitter and closed off to love and optimism and to have that kind of become undone by a man who is just as jaded and bitter??? like! the flavor. the. narrative foils. an unlikely trust growing that unconsciously grows more and more into something that resembles love but no you can't put that name to it because it's not love because (especially in piper's case like you had love you had it and you lost it you know love) and this is just so wildly different from anything you've ever experienced and yet from where there once lay only thorns now blossom roses like!! i'm a sucker for a good slow burn i also think kyle was a really wasted character when it comes down to what he was versus what the show tried to make him so when there's time to like hash him out i always think that's fun. with sheridan and phoebe that was literally just me giffing i think it's 7x01 where sheridan like vaguely threatens phoebe in the park and i'm like okay. that's gay. that one i'm just like hey everyone sees this right that's just chemistry that's that unexplained x factor (esp considering so many of phoebe's love interests lacked that in favor of casting men who at the time were considered pretty). phoebe and sheridan had that man. phoebe and andy Specifically tho i was thinking of an SO swap for reasons soon to be revealed and i was like oh yeah i should just revisit the greatest hits paigeleo pruecole piperkyle and then i realize that that's a p even swap no like. double stacking love interests meaning i should pair phoebe with a prue interest and i was just giffing wicca envy and i do wanna gif this scene but it's a bit too long kinda a pain in my ass where prue looks really guilty of murder and andy's there like u look guilty of murder and phoebe's like step off her man?? fuck off? what, is this cause she dumped you, huh? bitch? like phoebe's always had such a mouth she doesn't shy away from a fight and you know andy doesn't want some demure girl next door type some sweet boring doormat so i think someone who challenges him and brings that passion is really great and then as we see even in s2 like phoebe does eventually want to settle down and have like a bunch of kids and be a mom and we know andy looks for that too so there's both a present compatibility of this banter this look em right in the eyes and challenge them flirtation (another great phoebe/andy moment? where's your warrant.) but also a future compatibility of similar goals And an added past compatibility of clearly they were all like family friends right that's why we see andy in the manor in that 70's episode but On Top Of That phoebe's the black sheep criminal the punk rock sk8r grrl whereas andy was like. upstanding citizen followed in his father's footsteps third generation cop. like. there's a friction there that can very easy turn into flame, you know?

OKAY SO I JUST WATCHED/REWATCHED (i had seen about four episodes before watching through the whole playlist again) POKÉMON: TWILIGHT WINGS AND WOW (my thoughts are below the cut, i have many of them) ((SMALL SPOILER WARNING FOR POKÉMON: TWILIGHT WINGS!! i don’t spoil a lot but there’s a decent amount in there about smaller things))

-everyone knows this but this series is gorgeous, like it looks fantastic, you’re free to disagree with me but i just don’t understand why you would, it’s just visually stunning hhhHhh okay i’m gonna move on now before i end up making this all about the visuals

-these short episodes fleshed out some of the trainers like the games never managed to, in my opinion the games did about the same amount as twilight wings when it came to characterizing leon, sonia, and hop, and i think the games did better in some places with characterizing bede, piers, marnie, and raihan (i’m really sad that we barely got to see piers and marnie in twilight wings but i guess they did get their time to shine in the games so i can’t really complain that much).

i’m happy we got to see development and a more full-fledged character for bea, nessa, allister, and oleana, i never really liked oleana and then episode 5 (“assistant”) came along and called my opinion wrong in several different ways, which i’m very happy about. i’m still sad we barely got any milo, kabu, gordie, or melony, but hey sometimes that’s just the way things are 😔

oH I ALMOST FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT AVERY, CLARA, AND MUSTARD LET ME DO THAT REAL QUICK! starting with avery, when he showed up in my game at the station i was like “mm, i see what you’re going for and it’s not for me” and i still don’t like his outfit that much, but his personality (which i think he lacks in the games, judging from what i’ve seen) (no i didn’t get the dlc) makes up for it! they didn’t give us much for clara, but she was cute, kinda funny, and then there’s mustard, who i liked (but he says “leon, my boy” so often, i consider it funny but also like,, you can just call him your boy without saying his name we know his name), he seems really cool and fun, leon my boy out of 10, all of them were fun to see, and i’m glad that peonia/nia and peony only got brief cameos because that’s really all we needed of them here imo

-some of the emotional beats really hit for me, especially in episode 3 (“buddy”), i’m not gonna get into me projecting onto a fictional sheep creature but i feel like that sentence on its own says it all so moving on! second on the list of episodes that made me super emotional is probably episode 2 (“training”), just seeing bea push herself super hard and seeing her pokémon know that she needed to take a break while she was just putting her body through more and more intensity was just heartbreaking, like when her machamp had to physically hold her back to keep her from pushing rocks out of the way because it knew it would probably harm her?? ow dude that really made me feel something

and then there’s the finale, which got me a different kind of emotional, as in happy stimming and grinning like an idiot, it just felt like the creators were giving you some kind of payoff for playing the games and like it was made specifically for people who played the games, sort of like a love letter, idk if other people felt this way but it made me really happy, especially because swsh weren’t well-received games, and yeah there was definitely a far-more-than-noticeable amount of issues present within those games, but they did have good parts too, and everything that made the games good and lovable being wrapped up into a neat little package for you to appreciate personally makes me super happy

-every scene has a very good amount of atmosphere and realism to it, they did a great job conveying the idea that wow, this is its own world and it functions like it, no matter how little of this we see in the games, and as someone who’s currently working on world-building myself, this is such an inspiration to me

how does odyssey's forbidden meat relate to the greek child-eating motif? atreus and thyestes, tereus, cronos, lycaon, tantalus, ooh and also the general idea that sacrifice means feasting so human sacrifice is inherently conflated with cannibalism??? like in the agamemnon when the chorus feels the need to specifically point out that iphigenia's death is ἄδαιτον (151) because otherwise i guess the assumption would be that they ate her, because that's what you do as part of a sacrifice????

the Forbidden Meat in the odyssey is a) polyphemus’ sheep, which odysseus steals, b) odysseus’ men while they are turned into pigs, c) sacred cattle of the sun, d) odysseus’ cattle, which the suitors eat, e) The Flesh Of The Suitors. these are all extremely human-adjacent: polyphemus’ sheep were literally used as substitutes for the men when they escaped the cave; the Companions-As-Pigs are literally humans, and are specifically described as still retaining human qualities as pigs!; the sacred cattle are the same as odysseus’ cattle and odysseus is a double of helios, but the companions being almost-cattle so often, and odysseus’ “owning” of them being parallel to his/helios’ owning the cattle means That Cattle Is Just Human Beings!!! and the destruction of the companions at the point when they eat the cattle is like. they eat themselves babeyyyy. so Forbidden Meat is definitely related to the child-eating thing bcs they are both a cannibalism thing.

they are also both uhhhhhh a mimetic thing imo, but in different ways, bcs the odyssey is Weird about mimesis. here are some of girard’s Thots on sacrifice and cannibalism:

(i think you can also add that the consumption of a scapegoat (=outside of the community) figure is a way of physically (re)integrating them and so removing the disruptive power a scapegoat can have even in death.) (also bear in mind girard thinks all animal sacrifice is just substitution for og human sacrifice)

the almost-cannibalism in the odyssey is Weird in relation to this though, bcs a) the sacred cattle/odysseus’ cattle Are killed to be eaten, and then this killing is dressed up in the language of sacrifice to make it look like less of a god-crime, and b) when odysseus In A Metaphor Describing Him As A Lion essentially eats the suitors, it’s odysseus who really should be the scapegoat figure here! the pattern of Community Uniting Against Individual is flipped to Individual Destroying Community And Maybe Also Eating Them, and That’s Bad! follow for more soft pessimistic reading of the ending of the odyssey…… odysseus fucks up the rituals and makes the mimetic crisis Worse. i’m still figuring out What’s Going On Here but it’s probably the failure of rituals in the face of the mimetic crisis blah blah blah.

anyway the child-eating motif. people mostly eat their Own children, and often sons? eating your son can be a good way to not have mimetic conflict with your son (e.g. cronos). tantalus is weird about it and feeds his own son to his dad zeus which ends up Causing? or contributing? to their mimetic conflict?? similarly atreus tricks thyestes into eating his own sons as part of his mimetic conflict w thyestes, kinda as if he was displacing the Eat Your Rival thing onto thyestes’ other potential rivals? except that doesn’t actually Resolve any conflict.

another thing girard says which i think is sexy is that sacrifice is just Terminal Violence, which stops the cycle of violence of the mimetic crisis, and so can only really be labelled as sacrifice Retrospectively. it only counts as sacrifice if it Works at resolving the conflict.
