Random kfp headcanons that I had (that I am not making them up right now for a post, I just had these in my mind since forever)

- the release date of the movies are the birthdates of the villains (Tai Lung 6th of June, Shen 26th of May, Kai 29th of January)

- Obviously Tai doesn't know his birthday so they celebrate the day Shifu got him instead which is the 4th of July (I chose this date because it was the date that it aired on my country :3 )

-Meanwhile Tai and Shen have their family issues Kai has loving parents with a wholesome relationship and absolute no problems with.

- I headcanon the mixed animals offsprings work the same way in Beastars so the offspring won't be a mixed creature but rather just one of the parents

- Kai has a cow mother and a crocodile father.

- Shen's mom's mother is an Albatross.

- Both of Tai's parents are snow leopards

- I know people usually say that Po and Tai would be besties which I agree but among the villains I think his bestie would be Kai, they seemed to be getting along (almost) in the movie for me X)

- After the third film I cannot imagine Tigress and Po not having a panda daughter

- Tigress and Po has a panda daughter. One child

- Tigress becomes Shifu's succesor. Taking over the Jade Palace ( after it is rebuilt ) Teaching new generations

- Crane is the first one to marry among the five. Mantis is the last he's scared (didn't marry an other mantis oh god kajsksbdjs)

- Po is the youngest member and Mantis is the oldest

- Oogway and Kai met in the army but they knew eachother's existence before that. They just weren't talking to eachother at all

- Kai listens to Oogway's "deep talks". When he was young he couldn't exactly come up with words to explain what is in his mind and tell it, Kai watched him as he mixed 15 random words together to explain what his philosophical thoughts were

-Shen had a close relationship with his parents till the age of 5. Then it fell apart

- Tai Lung used to count his spots regularly to see if he had grown any more. He stopped after he finished puberty

- I'll probably add more I just kinda don't remember all of them right now

Like........He's colored- and i guess in cannon that could be explained with the fact "all of them are colorful" but Peahens are brown most of the time, and Shen's 1'st dad is the colors of a stereotypical male peacock.

So, Shen's 2'nd dad could be closeted, and had to get mainly pink dye as to not be suspicious. Also.........He looks like the ftm flag ngl

Bro I remember seeing that Shifu had a love interest back in the day for the first time I was absolutely s h o o k e t h 😂😂😂 Shifu was my fav character (and still is tbh) so yea that was a wild trip

I kinda feel them seeing the other again was extremely awkward, sort of how you would feel after seeing a classmate after many many years or smth... basically it was just really WEIRD. Not sure if this genuinely happened in the show since I haven't seen that episode in a long time but either way...

Speaking of which idk if they ever genuinely got back together but who cares lol. I see them as just distant mutuals.

Back in the day Mei Ling would know EXACTLY what to say to fluster Shifu, so she would tease him sometimes it was kinda funny ngl

I mean Mei Ling kinda gives that kind of vibe anyways.. Shifu got used to it really quick lol

Mei Ling stole a writing utensil from Shifu without him knowing in their primary school years and she never gave it back. To this day, she still has that writing utensil.

Shifu definitely chided Mei Ling on not doing honorable acts and basically was the more responsible one out of the pair, he was successful in getting her to not at the beginning of their friendship (and relationship ig) but later on it got harder and harder to convince her what she was doing was wrong

So eventually she just made up her mind, though I think a small part of Shifu still believes she can change. Quite stubborn but that's just how it is ig

Y'all think Shifu wonders about what went wrong and where it went wrong? Like I feel he holds himself very accountable and thinks about what he could have done differently to not lose Mei Ling like that, though a part of him knows that nothing would have made anything different

Also this whole shabang is a part of his past that he does not speak about but of course when Mei Ling showed up to the Jade Palace that got slapped in his face

Cant remember how the actual episode went but to me Shifu should have/definitely pulled the "we're not on speaking terms" card for a while LOL. At least not until he felt ready to confront Mei Ling. There was probably feelings of anger and also just confusion, because like.. what

Do people have any interest with a redemption arc between these guys?? I don't really care but idk wouldn't it be kind of cool if they can be on at least okay terms

Lord Shen forged his own spear

A theory...

ok there's a chance some of you eagle-eyed Shen studyers already know this. But a few months ago I was checking out models from the game Showdown of Legendary Legends, and I noticed this:

"Huh, that's weird, the blade is all messed up." I wondered why the game devs decided to make his spear so assymetrical and imperfect. Until I compared it to his spear in the movie:

Clear as day, the thing has a very pronounced curve along its axis. Now I wondered if this was just a technical gaffe, so I looked further back into Shen's development:

Still there. But just to be sure, I went back to the clay model:

And all the way back to the drawing board:

Yep! Fully intentional.

Now I can only guess as to why it's forged so crudely, and my only conclusion can be that he made the "guandao" himself. Perhaps he took it as a sign of pride for him to need to forge his own weapon with zero outside help.

This could be supported by the fact that the weapon he used in the panda massacre is completely distinct from this one:

And no, it's not just a stylized version for the flashback. It's a real weapon that actually exists, and is seen in Kung Fu Panda 3:

So, Lord Shen lost or discarded this weapon after the panda massacre. Thereafter, he forged himself a new one with a lobed blade, one less connected to his old home's "flame" theme and more with his own "eye" design. There is only one small issue with this theory, however...

The durn thing shows up in the 3D portion of Po's flashback. So, it's a wash? Not quite. There's still the possibility Shen forged it himself before he was banished, or that the filmmakers forgot to switch his spears out for this sequence.

If he did make the weapon himself, that also means it was his decision to add this cute goth collar to the crossguard:

HEADCANON ☆148

Shifu has a memorial box under his bed, the Five and Po happened to find it "accidentally." There were many pictures of the Five and Po, also some of baby Tai Lung. Tigress found her old toy bunny, which she was sure she threw away after being a master. Also an old drawing of herself and Shifu with stick figures, "Sifu" written on the sky. It was adorable, and drawn with "astonishing" talent, as Po said sarcastically.

Shen

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

It depends on how close you get to him. If you’re most people, then he’s not remotely affectionate. But, if you get close enough to him? He is the definition of clingy. He can and will spoil you with expensive jewelry and gifts as well as putting aside a lot more of his time for you.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Oh jeez. In order to become best friends with Shen, you would have to go through a lot of… let’s say difficult moments. Keep in mind that this guy has pretty much been alone for his entire life, so he has very little idea what a good relationship is or how to have one. In order to become best friends with him, you would need to share his common interests or show a deeper interest in him. After a little while, when you become best friends with him, he will very much be that sort of best friend that will take your things without asking and just sort of show up at your place. He is also that sort of best friend that will stab someone for looking at you the wrong way.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

As much as he would hate to admit it, he absolutely is touch starved and loves to cuddle. He likes it when the person cuddling him wraps their arms around him. It makes him feel safe and cared for.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

The thing is, with Shen, he’s a special case in this department. His idea of settling down is much more along the lines of ruling after he’s already conquered the rest of China. But if we’re talking the traditional “settling down”? Not really his thing. Despite being royalty, he has learned how to cook and clean relatively well, especially when you take into account the fact that he had to live on his own for a while with the whole exile thing.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

If he were to break up with someone for the reason of “I am broken I need therapy and can’t be in a relationship.” He would still make that person know that once he went through with getting help that they still belonged to him.

Otherwise? He is going to be violent. I see him as a very dedicated person, so if you did something to make him want to break up with you, he is going torture you to his hearts content, or just straight up kill you.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

Shen isn’t really a one night stand sort of guy. He has trust issues, so everything with him is all or nothing. He believes that the natural end goal of dating is marriage, and once he trusts you with all his heart, he is not going to want to let you go. Basically, when you get him to trust you enough, he is going to be proposing.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

He can be gentle in both areas when he wants to be, but that is the operative word. Wants He’s very quick to anger and often deals with a great amount of other emotions, so he goes back and forth pretty often. If you’re someone close to him, though, he’ll try a lot more to be gentle. 

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Again, if you’re close enough to him, absolutely. Heck, even go up to him and hug him! If not? You’re probably going to die. He likes hugs, again, he is touch starved. as for how often he wants hugs? It depends on how he’s feeling at the moment. When he hugs, he wraps his wings all the way around the person and pulls them close.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

I don’t really think this man would say that word at all, to be honest. He’d say that he is fond of you, but love is kind of a tricky word for him. Remember how in the movie the Soothsayer said “You parents loved you! They loved you so much!”? This sort of language is common in abusive household that try to justify the parents behavior, and it’s especially in validating to the child’s feelings. from what I can see, I theorize that Shen’s parents were at the very least somewhat abusive (see X for why I think that). So, in that sort of household, where the word love is thrown around so much? It just makes it feel like it doesn’t mean anything. He may grow comfortable enough to say the word later on, but that would involve a lot of unpacking his past.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

This is the most jealous man you will ever meet. He’s got no emotional permanence, so to him everything feels like if you’re giving attention to someone else that you hate him. Again, definitely something he needs to unpack. When he’s jealous, he’ll usually insert himself into the situation and pull you away. Surprisingly and thankfully, the other party usually comes out unharmed. Now, if they were bothering you in any way, on the other hand…

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

Kissing is difficult for him, as he has a beak. And it is a very sharp beak. He doesn’t kiss much, and when he does, it’s just a quick little cheek kiss or something. He finds it difficult and uncomfortable to kiss on the lips with his beak, so he just doesn’t really do it. He likes being kissed practically anywhere on his head or neck. It makes him feel important.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

Absolutely do not let him around children. He will act sane and civil around them for a little bit, but some thing will get him riled up and that’s when problems start to arise. He will get into full-blown arguments with literal children, because when he was a child he was not taught how to resolve those. He was just told to shut up. Now, as an adult, he makes it a point to not silence himself or back down. This would go really poorly around middle schoolers especially.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

He wakes up at a decent hour every morning, makes himself some tea, gets ready, all of that. He has a nice little routine and everything in place, but he does deviate from it sometimes to spend a bit more time with you. Cuddling an extra few minutes is definitely a valuable use of his time.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

It depends on the day, because he can get pretty wrapped up into his work and be working through the night, but aside from that he may play a few games or write a little bit of poetry, before getting ready for bed.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

I think with him, once you hit a certain point, he starts just revealing everything. But before you get to that point, he is very slow and careful about what he reveals and how. He’s afraid of looking weak, so he’ll try to act like he knows what he’s doing and he’s confident and all of that, even when he’s not.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Patience? Yeah, this man has never heard of it. Yes, he did wait 30 years for his revenge, but still, he is crap at patience. For some things, he can wait, but if he is obsessing over some thing he will want every single thing about the process to be immediate and freak out when it’s not.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

he remembers everything. He keeps a lot of mental notes about the people around him. When you have CPTSD, you do that sort of thing to protect yourself. But he ends up using that information that he learned about you more to get closer to you once he starts to trust you.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

Any time when you have truly made him feel loved or valued is his favorite. Any time where he has gotten to feel like he is someone that belongs, that’s his favorite.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

Incredibly protective. Always has guards walk with you when he’s not present, tries to be present as much as possible, teaches you some kung fu, and still has an extra few tricks up his sleeve. Getting close to you and hurting you is going to be pretty much impossible with him around. Shen doesn’t really need physical protection, but when it comes to dealing with his emotions, he definitely needs someone to talk them through with. He has no protection from his trauma or any really good coping mechanisms or any of that so that’s really where he needs help

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

Once he begins to care about you? A lot. Again, he is an all or nothing guy when it comes to people.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

Plucking some of his feathers out of stress. Also, impulsively murdering people for petty things.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

Very concerned. So concerned to the point where he makes a whole ordeal of whenever he’s molting. He’s already had to grow up with the whole “ people thinking he looks sickly and weird because he’s white and also white symbolizes death” thing, so he is very self-conscious.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

Is that even a question? Of course he would! You are the only person who has ever cared about him. Without you, he isn’t whole.

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

I believe that his parents were abusive. There were some cut content/early ideas for the film that were going to delve into the fact that his parents hated him because he looked sickly and white symbolizes death and all of that. Not to mention in the opening scene, if you just look at what Shen is doing, he’s just playing around with the gunpowder. He wasn’t “becoming a dark person” or whatever the Soothsayer implied. He just likes science.

Also another hc I have for him is that he’s autistic. This is pretty self-explanatory.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

I hc this man as ace and sex repulsed and I will die on that cross. He also just really dislikes when things are dirty or people have an extreme lack of manners.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)

That’s assuming this man gets sleep. He typically doesn’t. This guy has quite the insomnia problem. Partly because when he does sleep, he has nightmares sometimes, so that’s not really a fun incentive to sleep.

I will default to a gender & race-neutral reader for simplicity, but if you want a specific perspective, just make sure to note it in your request! - If you ask how I think that characters will react to certain situations/scenarios, I'm going to give you that. I'm not going to soften their personalities or flaws for romance. - If you ask for a reader in an anthropomorphic setting(ex. Beastars or KFP), don't feel shy about saying what kind of animal you want the reader to be! Just keep in mind that a lot of animals are much more dimorphic between sexes than humans are. - Goofy/Humour requests are highly encouraged, I'd love to see them! - To clarify, in reference to stuff like abuse, SA, and SH, I will write comfort for those who have had to deal with that in the past, but I won't write any characters/reader committing those acts or it being done to the reader/characters. - If you want to know if I'm into a certain fandom, ask and I'll let you know! There are some fandoms I don't feel comfortable writing for, but I still really love. Like Cookie Run because of the childish elements of its content, or Warrior Cats because all of the characters are literal animals. - Finally, at the end of the day, I am the person writing this stuff. THANK YOU for the Oogway defense!!! Villains are fun, especially sympathetic ones, but acting like they’re some poor misunderstood sadbois ironically just takes the fun away from them. It’s really people not wanting to admit they like villains, which is ironic because they claim otherwise. The need for stans to villainize benevolent figures that correctly called out their faves as immaturely evil just comes across as insecure.

Np, I tend to be the dude always saying what needs to be said. I think villain stans here in kfp just want their hcs to be true so badly which is where the insecurity comes from, I can't tell you how many times Tai fans I've spoken to outright forget his animosty toward others and his own damn Father who we watched him do the following; - Throw him against a STONE COLLUMN - Punched him through the roof - Asked him to commit fraud regardless of Oogway's passing - Choked him out and probably would have killed him had Po not arrived. He's just a terrible person and I wasn't shocked Ian (Hia VA) realized that guy was never gonna change, he's like his dad; always thinks he's right but unlike Shifu he never opens his eyes. It's why I love him, he's a loser and an idiot who could be perfect for being a loser like villain no one takes seriously anymore if he was ever revived cause its been years. But everyone wants that Prison Break Tai Lung, overestimating how smart and cool he is, ignoring how he fell apart at the end of the film. So, his fans emulate him in a way, an insecure child who always wants to proclaim they are right and everyone else did them wrong despite the evidence showing otherwise. Which is why they dislike Oogway so much and "distrust" him because he told the truth, there was darkness in Tai lung's heart and he had so much time to change that but never did. And they can't handle the latter part, I mean just look at all the Tai redemption arc fan media we have out here and how many VIEWS they get its wild, No hate cause I read Traces of Spring as purely fan content. It's a funny and sad reality we live in. And don't get me started on the Shen fans, at least the Kai fans are funny and don't make weird art about genocide survivors deaths. But that's a story for another day.

Daiyu's preferred method of waking up Kai usually involves her jumping up off the bed as high as she can go and elbowing him in the gut like some sort of professional wrestler while screaming "WAKE UP, FAT-ASS".

But I think once Jing proposes this much more "gentle" method of waking up Kai I think she'd immediately agree. The hard part of this method, however, is running from the room as fast as possible before Kai kills them.
