Early Morning
“Olivia, sweetie, we can’t bring Mr. Centaur to school,” Reyna told her daughter gently as she put on her golden studs.
It was an early morning and they were getting ready for Olive’s first day of school. The said girl pouted, put her stuffed animal down and went to sit on her parents' bed. She smiled softly and could clearly see Jason in her. Big blue eyes and lips pouted like a three year old she is.
She was about to go sit next to the little girl when her father beat her to it. He casually strolled in from the bathroom and sank down next to the girl. “Hey sunshine,” he started slowly, “you know if you bring Mr. Centaur to school, maybe he would miss home.
“He would?” Olive asked with huge eyes.
“Maybe.”
The three-year-old seemed to think for a moment before making up her mind, putting her stuffed animal and covering it with the blanket. Jason just turned to her and gave her a cocky smile that still made her knees weak even after all these years. They had been married for over four years now, but he still had that effect on her. And honestly, it frustrated her every time.
The two were knocked out of their little staring match by their daughter’s question.
“Can we go now, Daddy?”
“Sure, sunshine.” He replied, using her favorite nickname he used with her mother.
The little family made their way to the front door before Reyna carefully approached Jason’s back. Hearing her footsteps, he turned around when she was close enough and wrapped his arms around her.
“What’s up?” he whispered before gently kissing her neck.
“Jase,... we need to talk”
“Sure.” He was still kissing her neck, only this time his head was getting lower and lower.
“Jason.”
He stopped and looked at her cautiously. “Are you Ok?”
“It worked,” she simply replied.
He stared at her for a moment. “What?”
“It worked.”
He didn’t stop staring for another moment before his face broke down into a big, goofy grin and he engulfed her in that big bear hug he gave her the first time she told him.
“Mommy, Daddy, why are you guys hugging?”
They broke apart and slowly smiled at their only daughter, well not for long anyway.
“Olive, sweetie, come here for a second. We’ve got something to tell you.”
The little girl squirmed for a moment before shyly spoke up. “Mommy, I broke your favorite flower vase in the kitchen.”
“Oh, Olive. What happened?”
“I’m sorry, I was trying to reach for my lunch,” she quietly said and hung her head down shamefully.
“It’s Ok, love. We’re proud of you for admitting this.” Jason spoke up for her.
“And I also dropped my milk cup on the floor and it’s all over your shoes, Daddy. Oh, and does it count if I spill the water but not break the glass?”
Reyna sighed. A lot can happen in an early morning.

i miss you, i'm sorry
Pjo Rarepair Week Day 3: Angst Ship: Jason Grace / Reyna Avila Words: 1.1k
“I miss you, Jay,” Reyna whispered, kneeling next to the small legionnaire made monument to the side of the Temple of Jupiter, a last tribute to the praetor of the people who fell a little too early. It felt wrong, being here in the dead of the night, being next to a shrine that shouldn’t exist, mourning a boy who shouldn’t have died.

A Glimpse of Us - Reyna
inspired by Joji's Glimpse of Us ~ please listen to it while you read!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvOpPeKSf_4
She'd take the world off my shoulders If it was ever hard to move She'd turn the rain to a rainbow When I was living in the blue He loved Piper, really. She was comforting and happy - always uplifting his spirt whenever he needed a shoulder to cry on or someone to hold onto when his mind is lost adrift in cloudy memories. Why then, if she is so perfect Do I still wish that it was you? Perfect don't mean that it's working So what can I do? (do ooh) She's perfect. Familiar, and what everyone expected of him - with her choppy brown hair and his electric blue eyes. Ever since that day he woke up on that bus, she's all he's ever had that was consistent. Stable, comforting. But some part of him (especially on the late nights around the campfire) wishes that her hair was obsidian black and eating jellybeans instead of marshmallows - but it's all too late and he doesn't want to hurt Piper because he loves her. When you're out of sight In my mind 'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes And that's where I find a glimpse of us So he banishes that part of him away and buries his face in her shoulder and tries to forget memories he once wished he'd never forgotten. But it always comes back when he looks into Piper's eyes during those moments. When they're laughing just a bit too hard, when they're cuddling around a fireplace, and especially when they're visiting New Rome. Through her multicolored eyes, he sees her. Her black hair whipping around her face as she rides Scipio, the way she looked when she fell asleep while doing paperwork late at night with a coffee still in her hand, the blazing fire in her dark eyes as she fought with him against the titans (always silently guarding his back), and the way her lips, her voice, and her eyes looked and sounded when she whispered to him that she loved him. And I try to fall for her touch But I'm thinking of the way it was Said I'm fine and said I moved on I'm only here passing time in her arms Hoping I'll find A glimpse of us
But he can't go back and change everything. He wishes he could, sometimes. But he can't. So he holds onto Piper, trying to banish memories and regrets while he presses kisses into her hair. He hates the way he loves those candid moments because deep down, he knows it reminds him of Reyna. He holds Piper, telling her he loves her and reassuring her whenever Reyna gets mentioned. "I love you Piper, not her. Always have and always will," Tell me he savors your glory Does he laugh the way I did? Is this a part of your story? One that I had never lived
It falls apart when he's invited to Reyna and Malcolm's wedding. He wonders if they're in love like how he and Reyna used to be. He wonders if this could've been what he could've had. One that he could have lived if he had gotten his memories back. If he didn't forget her. One that he could have lived if he wasn't a coward. The life he could have had with her. Maybe one day you'll feel lonely And in his eyes, you'll get a glimpse Maybe you'll start slipping slowly And find me again (again) He hates everything about their wedding. He hates how much he wishes it was him in Malcolm's place. He hates the way her eyes light up when she sees him. He hates the perfect venue she has - just too similar to how he used to envision his wedding with Reyna. He hates himself for wishing that maybe, just maybe, Malcolm's just his replacement, that Reyna's heart is still his and that he and Reyna will be together once again in the future. He hates these thoughts that he can't stop thinking while he watches them exchange vows. Jason knows that none of these wishes will ever happen; the way her eyes sparkle when she sees Malcolm and the way she'd look at him like he was the only good thing to happen in the world, like they were the only two there - the exact same way she did to him years ago tells him that she's only going to see Malcolm and that he doesn't have a place in her heart anymore.
When you're out of sight In my mind 'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes And that's where I find a glimpse of us And I try to fall for her touch But I'm thinking of the way it was Said I'm fine and said I moved on I'm only here passing time in her arms Hoping I'll find A glimpse of us
At the reception, Jason slow-dances with Piper. They're sort of secluded, away from the main venue, and he's grateful for that. He doesn't want to (and can't) handle to see any more of Reyna and Malcolm. But he knows, even if he can't see them, that she's gone, too far away for him to reach and he's falling apart because of that. His heart aches so badly, Jason's struggling to keep himself from breaking down so he relies on good, sweet Piper for support once again. 'Cause sometimes I look in her eyes And that's where I find a glimpse of us And I try to fall for her touch But I'm thinking of the way it was Said I'm fine and said I moved on I'm only here passing time in her arms Hoping I'll find A glimpse of us
He avoids eye contact with Piper though, as he savours the comfort and support she brings with her. He's afraid that the glimpse in Piper's eyes may be the final straw for him to break down at Reyna's wedding. So, he buries his face into Piper's shoulder like he always does when he thinks of her as they continue to slow-dance. He hates it but while the night slowly fades away at Reyna's wedding to another man, Jason can't help but to think of Reyna and him.

Love's a Game- a jeyna fic
Chapter 5
Jason woke up for school exhausted that Friday after the game. Last night they'd stayed out exceedingly late for a school night, but he thought it was more than worth it. His stomach was still doing somersaults from the memories.
He'd been about to leave when he saw Reyna's jacket sitting on the chair in his room. He really needed to give it back to her the next time he saw her, which would be fourth period today, but the jacket was too large to fit in his backpack that was already stuffed with binders and books. He’d have to lug it around with him all morning, which would be terribly awkward.
That left him two options: wait to give it back (and risk making himself look like he was obsessed with her by trying to keep her jacket) or wear it until he could hand it to her. But did he have the guts to walk into school blatantly wearing her jacket? What if someone asked him if they were a thing now? He couldn’t tell if he was more anxious about admitting his feelings or about being wrong about what Reyna thought of their relationship.
Jason found himself staring at the jacket as he stood contemplating, backpack in hand. Folded on the chair, it looked nearly identical to his. Nearly identical. If he couldn’t notice the difference, what were the chances his classmates would? He may be able to get to fourth period with no questions asked.
He decided to wear the jacket and left for school, picking Nya up on the way as he did most days. Nya asked him about how it had went last night and he spilled all the details, leaving out the jacket part. By the time they pulled into the parking lot she hadn't given any sign of recognition about the jacket, which made him feel much more confident about being able to get through the morning unbothered.
First period went by in a flash and suddenly he was sitting in second when he noticed some whispers from behind him.
“Jason? Is that Reyna’s jacket?” asked a voice from behind.
Jason felt his cheeks heat up. He took a deep breath, hoping he wasn’t about to choke on his words and die of embarrassment, and turned around to face the voice. It was a kid he’d known a few months, Aiden. In the seat next to him sat Leo with a strange look on his face.
“Uh, yeah,” Jason replied, shifting in his seat. “Why?”
And how did they figure that out so quick?
In a moment of horror Jason realized he’d forgotten something. Reyna's last name was written in big, bold letters across the back of the jacket. All they had to do was read the massive lettering and any hope Jason had of flying under the radar was gone.

if love is what you need (a soldier i will be)
Summary: A praetor must be strong, must be capable, must be infallible. Reyna will never be all three at once, but neither will Jason and that's alright.
Warning: None
Rating: G
For one night, one glorious night, Jason and Reyna could relax. The war had been over for a week now. Medical professionals have worked on most people and even therapists were rolling in to help traumatized demigods and legacies.
Jason and Reyna forgo seeing them. It would send a bad message to the legion; that they were too weak to be Praetors. That they should be replaced. So, when the nightmares inevitably roll around, it’s each other's job to comfort the other.
“Saturn surely was dumb to start a way with the Gods.” Reyna mused, “Especially because of the army of demigods and legacies willing to fight.”
There aren’t nightmares yet, but Reyna still avoids sleep. The horrors she saw are some she should be used to. Though, she’s never had to seriously fight—to kill—children. They were her age, the age of Camp Jupiters fighters. She’s fought monsters, pirates, and even her own father, but never had it been children. Even if they were on the side of Saturn—the side of the TItans—they were still kids. Just like herself and Jason.
“Before you start a war, you better know what you were fighting for.” Jason replies, a sleepy smile on his face. He stands, leaving the paperwork on his desk, joining Reyna at his door, “What do you need at one in the morning?”
“There is a song that goes like that.” Reyna tells him, “by some group called The Cab.”
“Can you sing it?”
“I’m not the greatest singer, but—” Reyna starts to sing. It isn’t the prettiest thing in the world, but Jason watches her with adoration for the raspy-voiced girl. She sings the chorus, the catchiest part of a song.
“You did great.” Jason tells her.
“Don’t lie to me Grace.” Reyna laughs, “but, thank you.”
Jason asks her again, “What do you need at one in the morning?”
“I don’t want to go asleep.” Reyna admits, “Can we go to the Garden of Bacchus?”
The Garden of Bacchus, Reyna’s favorite place in all of Camp Jupiter, if not New Rome. There’s a cafe nearby, in New Rome, but it would be closed this time of night. Though, she goes for the sereness of it all; the way time seems to go by at the pace you set it, not on the ticking metronome Saturn’s set it by.
“Setting a bad example for our subordinates aren’t we?”
“Well Praetor Grace, I feel like we’ve deserved a bit of leniency.” Reyna replies, “Just for tonight.”
“Just for tonight.”
Jason slips on some shoes, staying in his Captain America pajama set, a joke gift from Reyna for his birthday, or, when they celebrated it.
“I see you like my gift.”
“What can I say,” Jason replies, “I relate to the guy.”
“A good man,” Reyna quotes, “not a perfect soldier.”
Jason has forced her to watch the Marvel movies, a film franchise just rolling out. During their final free day before the war ended, they went to see this movie.
“I think it’s better that way.” Jason replies as they start the walk towards the Garden of Bacchus. He continues, letting the August wind roll through and mess with his hair, “Morality should outshine actions.”
“But what if I needed you to be the perfect soldier,” Reyna asks, “like Camp Jupiter requires?”
“Is it for you personally or is it for Camp Jupiter?”
“Me.”
“A soldier I’d be.” Jason pauses, “I’d do anything for you, Reyna.”
There’s a minute of silence, but soon, they get into the Garden of Bacchus. Both Praetors are in their pajamas and a bit cold, but won’t show it.
“Why did you fight?” Reyna speaks first after the silence.
“For Camp Jupiter, for New Rome, for little Julia and the Athertons who took me in.” Jason breathes out, “but mostly, for you.”
There’s another pause in the conversation before Reyna continues, “Sounds like you have a crush.’
“I do,” Jason admits, “I’ve had one ever since you saved me from campers trying to give me food poisoning for being in the fifth legion. You beat up those dudes and I have crushed on you ever since.”
“That was over two years ago, Jason.” Reyna tells him, “If you’ve had a crush on me for two years, I’d dare to say you like me.”
“Reyna,” Jason replies, “I’ve liked you since you’ve been here.”
“Good.” Reyna replies, “I’ve liked you for months now.”
They’re standing in the center of the garden, under a vine-covered gazebo. Grapes protrude from the vines and Reyna plucks one. Jason follows soon after.
“So,” Reyna asks, “What do you want to do with this revelation?”
“I want to ask you out.” Jason admits, “and I want to kiss you.”
“Then do it, Captain.” Reyna tells him.
And he does.

am I the only one who actually found camp Jupiter interesting and wished it were explored more? I wish it served a bigger purpose rather than simply being "an evil strict millitary camp" to rival the Greek camp and wasn't just written to be hated. I mean, the exteriors seem hella cool, they have war games, and the feasts are great, etc. I wish we got a more positive outlook of it, I mean, they have a literal city for demigods to settle down in? That's fucking cool.
I badly need a jason prequel exploring his life at CJ with his roman friends like Reyna, Gwendolyn, Dakota, how jason turned down the first cohort privileges simply to protect the 5th, his battle with trojan and krios, and of course, I NEED Jeyna having childhood beef w octavian and his dumb teddy bear massacres lol. gosh I need it soo bad now. None of y'all are writing fanfics about it either since jason is hated, so I might just do it myself one day, smh.

reyna felt empty for most of her life. she was a obedient servant for the longest time. and she was a pirate. and then a praetor. but for something she never was, that'd have to be... jason's choice.
many times, she found herself waiting for affection, one that would come at the right time so she wouldn't give up, but also at a time where it was hard for her to believe it would become something else.
that was, definitely, a bad moment. not because of piper, they had broken up weeks ago. but because of her heart. reyna was giving up willingly, and then, boom. he came home to reyna's heart and cried out his sorrows. because piper didn't want jason anymore.
reyna wished she was strong enough to deny him. she was never his first choice. but when he got closer, she couldn't help but open her arms, and accept such weird love. because she knew, deep in her heart, that jason's kiss was out of love. that the tears in his eyes were out of guilt. guilt not for using reyna's affection as a way to receive comfort. but guilty because he loves piper. and he loves reyna.

Quotes part 2
After being friends with Percy Jackson, some of his rebellious streak does come onto you. But unfortunately, being friends with Reyna means that she outruns you.
-
In her presence, he felt like a mere spectator, not a grand prince.
-
Every moment I am with you, I feel like I’ve been submerged into a fantastical story.
-
I don’t feel so lonely when I’m up here. The stars make for fabulous company.
 -
I couldn’t bear to think that you were willing to give me your heart without knowing the history of mine.
 -
I’ve loved her before I even understood what love was
-
I love him for who he is, not what he does.
-
I saw it for myself. What it is like to breathe just for yourself. I want you to have that.

and so as he watches her intake a deep breath to steady herself (the exact way she does when she's nervous or about to jump into a deadly fight, ready to protect everything that she loves - including him, the city and dreams that they used to share, and all her friends and family), he feels his consciousness screaming at him to stop her from walking down the aisle and away from him for the last time. he studies her eyes - the same eyes and face that he's loved for 15 years now; not including the 4 years that he lost without his memories - and realizes that she's gone, far too gone from him now. so he sits down with clenched fists and teary eyes beside his girlfriend, piper. sweet, beautiful piper who he was supposed to be the perfect couple with; and they would be, if he still didn't love reyna. so as he sits ignoring his 14 year old self (the same one that fantasized at night about what he and his fellow praerator would look after growing old together and even had their children's names prepared) in the back of his brain who's screaming at him to stop the wedding and make everything right again. but he doesn't - he's happy with piper, reyna's happy with Malcom, so what's the point in it now? but still, his eyes tear up as he watches her step down the aisle towards malcom (the spot he knows he should be in instead) and with each step, the ruins of what used to to be the strongest couple in the world crumble to dust - never to be restored back to their former glory ever again. and even though the thing is, he's willing to do anything to repair it still, but he's just. too. late.

Love’s a Game- a jeyna fic
Chapter 10
"Leo?" he called out into the empty room.
The body shifted, and soon the stall door opened to reveal Leo. He looked better than Jason had expected, actually. He'd been prepared for bloodshot eyes, swollen from crying. Instead the only thing noticeable on him was red-tinged cheeks and a look of surprise on his face.
"Hey," Leo said as he stepped out of the stall. His eyes focused on a trash can by the door, avoiding his gaze.
"Are you alright? If this is about what Aiden said in class, or if I-"
"What? No," Leo cut him off, a frown on his face. "It's not anything specific. Just everything, you know," he said shrugging.
Oh right. Jason had forgotten about how rough things had been for Leo since his mom passed away last year. That was why he'd locked himself away in here for so long, not because of some silly crush. He felt like an ass now for assuming that.
Jason took a seat on the bathroom floor.
"Do you want to talk?" he offered, giving Leo his best attempt at a comforting smile.
Leo stood still for a moment, but then he sat down next to Jason, as if accepting his offer.
"It's just been a really sucky year. And knowing the guy I sorta have a crush on is with someone else was just the cherry on top to push me over this morning, I guess."
Jason stared at the boy next to him, whose eyes were glued to his hands in his lap. The guy...
Oh. Oh.
Leo liked him, not Reyna. At least his guess had been partially accurate.
"I'm sorry," Jason began.
"No, dude, you don't need to apologize, it's not that big a thing. Plus you and Reyna really suit each other. I'm happy for you. Just needed a good cry is all," Leo explained.
Jason examined his friend's face. He looked at peace now, as if getting it out of his system really had solved the problem. Jason was glad to see that.
But what Leo said reminded Jason of how he'd felt just minutes earlier, when he couldn't stand the thought of kissing Reyna.
"I'm confused about whether or not I want to date her," he blurted out. "She asked if she could kiss me today and it freaked me out. I don't know why."
Leo furrowed his eyebrows as if taking a moment to think the issue through. Jason was really hoping his friend could provide some profound answer that would clear up all of his confusion right now.
"I'll be honest, I'd be relieved if that was because you don't like her. But I think we can all tell you do, a lot. So maybe it's just kissing that you don't like. In an asexual way, you know?"
He took in Leo's words. He knew what asexual meant, but he'd never thought of himself as it before. Granted, he'd never had someone interested in him in that way before either so he felt like he couldn't really know till now.
And he did, in fact, know now.
"I like Reyna romantically, but I think that's it. Hey," he turned to look at Leo as they sat on the bathroom floor together. "Thanks for helping me figure it out."
"No problem. Thanks for being here for me too," Leo nudged his shoulder, "bro."
Jason smiled at the phrase and stood up, offering a hand to help Leo up off the floor. Together they went back to the cafeteria, Jason's heart at peace knowing that his friend was okay and that he was finally dating the girl he liked.
~ the end ~
