ICYMI, there was fear that companies were scraping public AO3 fics to train their AI without the consent of AO3 or its users. That fear has been confirmed.

AO3 has written about what they’re doing (and what they’re not able to do), and they recommend restricting your work to AO3 registered users only. [Instructions here]

This gross misuse of the archive by techbros is why I’ve locked down my fics for the foreseeable future. I recommend the rest of you do the same.

A number of fanfiction authors are pulling their fics from Ao3 because people are illegally selling bound copies of these fics on etsy.

Pretty sure this hasn't happened to any of my stories. And I have given permission to folks to bind copies for personal use, which is perfectly legal and just and this post does not apply to those situations.

But this needs to be said:

If you are the kind of person who would download something from Ao3....bind it....and sell it on Etsy...you're dead to me.

The fact that people have the balls to take creative works that aren't theirs, that are provided for free to the world because of the joy it brings authors to share their stories with people who love the characters as much as we do, and turn around and sell them for HUNDREDS of dollars is gross and morally corrupt.

And the people who buy these copies, knowing they are putting the entire world of fanfic at risk, are just as bad.

It is ILLEGAL to sell fanfiction. It is immoral to buy it.

Fanfic exists in a liminal space where writers are protected because no money exchanges hands. The greed of a few is going to fuck it up for the rest of us. If you see bound fics for sale, please report the sellers.

Oh man... I feel like you guys (the Käärijä and Joker Out fandom) are my home so I must share this funny story with you guys: I started my job at a Catholic school today and when I used my personal Laptop, I forgot that my lock screen is Jere in the bolero (aka tits out and everything, and there's special emphasis on the tits) my coworkers saw it, and two of them are a monk and a priest (of course...) and to top it off, I was writing the next chapter of my (you guessed it) monk!Jere fic with smut and they saw it too. The priest flinched and the monk blushed hard. I tried so hard not to laugh. I really didn't know what to do. 🤣 I've made a really good impression! Lol

I'm sorry I've been so absent during 2023, life has hit me hard, and chemotherapy hit me even harder, and I just haven't felt up to writing. I've finished now, one more surgery this week and I can finally give my cancer a great big 'fuck off' 😊 I can tell that the chemo brain is easing off as my feral mind is creeping back in and I'm having ideas for new fics as well as little lines, quotes etc for my WIP's.
