The Ace Attorney translation is so funny because if it were translated today it would probably just be normal but since it was the 2000s and American brains couldn't comprehend Japan there's randomly an insular village that strictly practices Shinto divination in Southern California

This is the page that I have firefox open to every at the moment. Why is opening to this? Because I have a character that I am using this name for.
It's an original character in an Ace Attorney fanfic.

i love how no one ever questions tintin bringing snowy with him wherever he goes and this even continues to the point where tintin is going to the moon and they're just like ok tintin here is your space suit and, of course, the special little dog-shaped space suit we made for your dog who is going to the moon as well

one translation choice i think was sort of messed up by a lack of knowledge when this chapter first came out is doflamingo's epithet, which is 天夜叉/ten'yasha in japanese, and which is revealed here at the start of dressrosa.
it's usually translated as "heavenly demon" or "heavenly yaksha", but both of those miss that this seems to be riffing on the word 天竜人/tenryuubito, "celestial dragon." the same character (天) is translated as 'celestial' in tenryuubito but as 'heavenly' in ten'yasha.
i imagine if we'd known about his heritage at this point it would have been translated as 'celestial demon', i think that would probably have been a better translation and would have made this connection a lot clearer.
