all of the headlines were the same. your group’s inkigayo stage went viral. it was no surprise to anyone, especially given how hard you had all been working. the other members would argue that it was you who worked the hardest, especially given everything you were dealing with, but you simply thought of it as doing your job.

which was why, as mentioned before, the only thing better than a good performance was an even better after party.

truth be told, after you had left aeri a voicemail, you deleted her contact entirely. you didn’t have the heart to block her just yet, but only time would tell when you would eventually find the strength to do such a thing.

however, fortunately for you, any thought of aeri was on the backburner. your performance and its success were enough of a well needed distraction for you, especially given the events of last night.

yujin let leeseo stay and enjoy the after party for once, but she was definitely keeping a close eye on her since she knew gaeul and rei would try and get her to drink a little.

there were a lot of other groups there as well, even if they didn’t perform, they were still invited. the energy and music were electrifying. the rhythm from the bass, the alcohol in your cup, and the flashing lights felt euphoric.

for the first time in weeks, you felt happy. your group was successful, your career was at an all time high, and you were slowly pulling yourself out of a hole that once felt like an endless abyss.

“you look good, y/n!” wonyoung shouted over the music, dancing next to you and gaeul. your roommate was relieved to see you coping much better than you had been just a week prior. she was worried about you not being able to pick yourself back up in time for the performance, but you did it. you gave it your all on that stage, and the result ended up in your favor.

“thank you, wony!” your genuine smile made both of your group members feel relieved. all of them could tell a weight had been lifted off of your shoulders since you finally cut ties with the aespa member.

for them, it was obvious that you were much happier without aeri. even your sister noticed it when she watched your performance in her living room. wendy and irene also congratulated you through a quick text, and they both commented on how happy you looked on that stage.

even if they didn’t know the reason why, it was obvious to everyone that you were much happier now.

even aeri herself noticed it.

originally, only the other three members had been invited to the after party since giselle was still “grounded” as she referred to it. but after the company discussed it over, they decided to send her at the last minute in hope of giving her a chance to be seen with her members in a way that would seem positive.

except, aeri didn’t want to be there. she didn’t want to run into you and face the look of heartbreak on your face. your voicemail already haunted her enough.

she watched her phone ring when you called, and was about to answer too, but she was too late once the call icon disappeared. giselle didn’t think much of it at the time, but then when she heard your voicemail?

aeri almost ran to the ive dorm barefoot and in pajamas. but she didn’t.

and now, merely 24 hours later, she could finally see with her own two eyes the truth that she had been running from this entire time.

you truly were happier without her.

but then you saw me, caught you by surprise

a single teardrop falling from your eye

the rapper swirled the shot glass in her hand, watching the chinese whiskey dance around the ice. it was similar to the way aeri was dancing around you. from where she sat at the bar, she could see you perfectly through the cracks in the bodies of others.

your hair was slightly disheveled, but your stage makeup was still perfectly intact despite the thin layer of sweat lacing your brows. you had been dancing all night, quite literally.

she watched you throw your head back in a fit of laughter. it was probably due to something gaeul had said. you often mentioned the jokes she made whenever she had you come over. it was one of her favorite parts about seeing you.

aeri nearly jumped out of her seat when she saw your eyes meet hers. even though it was just for a fleeting moment, she could see the look of heartbreak and disappointment flash in your eyes.

it made her immediately turn her head to the side, focusing on the ever so interesting patterns of the bartop and the way her fingernails tapped against it.

she waited a few moments before turning to look in your direction again, physically feeling her tense shoulders relax when she saw her favorite smile return to your face.

it was ironic, truly. this whole mess started with her not noticing you at a party. and yet here the roles were reversed, with you not noticing her.

the only difference this time was that aeri didn’t want you to notice her.

to be quite honest, aeri didn’t know why she ran in the beginning. she wanted to reach out to you and have you explain everything, but her pride refused to yield. her pride and her fear of heartbreak caused her to run.

she ran from her feelings for you for so long, which was why when she had the courage to finally accept them, your confession about your sex life with yunjin felt like a knife to her heart.

aeri wasn’t stupid. she knew when you started falling for her after that night. she noticed it in your touches, in your kisses, in the way you clung to her more. it scared her.

at least, initially it did. over time she reciprocated the same feelings that she had ran from for so long.

however, aeri was tired of running. which was why she had to walk away from you, too.

which was why when she finally got your voicemail, she couldn’t help but cry with you. she felt everything you had felt, but due to her petty actions and stupid mistakes, it ended up with the both of you losing each other.

as she watched you and wonyoung dance to the song currently playing, she felt the ghost of a smile form on her lips.

you were feeling happier than ever right now, but aeri couldn’t feel any more miserable than she already was right now.

at least, that’s what she thought.

and just pretended that you didn’t care

her heart sank to her stomach when she saw you and your group members walking towards the bar. she moved her hair in front of her eyes in an attempt to hide herself, but truth be told, she knew you had seen her.

she knew that she was there. but you refused to even acknowledge her presence as you walked past her, laughing and shouting at gaeul to get you whatever she was getting.

you and aeri had been friends for so long that you could recognize each other from a mile away. and when things got more intimate between you two, you both knew that even in the dark, you had each other’s bodies memorized.

the both of you knew everything about each other like the back of your hands. which was why aeri knew it stung so much for you to ignore her just like that, even if she deserved it.

the night of the date, or rather the argument since the date never really happened, aeri drove back to somi’s place and got absolutely wasted. she was so hurt, and somi was blasting XOXO so loud that she was positive everyone on that block heard it.

she remembered how she curled into a ball on somi’s bathroom floor, crying her heart out because of how much it hurt. however, she wasn’t just hurt because of everything you had told her.

she was hurting because of everything she told you.

it hurt her, to hurt you. except, she didn’t realize that fully until after she had been caught with jeno.

she should have never agreed with him to “get back” at you. but she was so hurt, and drunk on both pain and some japanese liquor that night that she couldn’t think straight. even though the articles said they were both sober, it could not have been any further from the truth.

just like how she wasn’t actually dating jeno either. SM only said that to try and help make the situation look better and deal with damage control. in their eyes, a couple caught having sex looked much better than two single idols being drunk and horny.

she regretted it in the moment, but she regretted it even more when she heard from karina that seulgi was looking for her.

needless to say, giselle had been walking on eggshells whenever she was in the company building.

aeri knew she had broken your heart, but as cliche as it sounds, she broke yours out of retaliation since you broke hers.

it wasn’t intentional, and she knew that, but the cycle of heartbreak began and ended with both of you getting hurt.

and now, the aespa member was well aware that you were no longer willing to have her in your life. not as a lover, or as a friend.

the SM rapper knew better than to try and fix things with you. you wanted nothing to do with her, and your voicemail was your final goodbye to her.

even though she wanted to run up to you right now, hold your hand and dance with you under the illuminated lights, she knew she couldn’t.

giselle wanted to kiss you in front of everyone, and tell you over and over again how proud of you she was. you had always worked so hard, even as a trainee. it was one of the many things gigi admired about you.

it was the sum of these admirations that made her fall in love with you.

she didn’t want to be the reason you cried anymore. she wanted you to cry over things like winning awards, breaking records, and giving speeches. she didn’t want you to cry over her and her wretched heart.

in her eyes, it wasn’t worth it. she wasn’t worth crying over.

you felt a tap on your shoulder, and when you turned around you couldn’t fight the smile that crept onto your face.

“hi, stranger.”

yunjin’s arms wrapped you in the tightest hug she could muster up. “you did so good, y/n.” she grinned and pulled back to look at you. she had seen you at your lowest. when you were hurting because of giselle, even from the very beginning, she was there.

you and yunjin had a very long talk the day she slipped under your covers. yunjin had explained herself fully, and also told you why she did what she did. she even told you that aeri had been the one to text first that night.

however, at the time you were upset, but looking back on it, you were sort of grateful she did that. you knew you would have ran back to giselle in a heartbeat, and the vicious cycle would have only continued.

even though you and the american were not together, you had both agreed to take things slowly to see where they went. yunjin had confessed to you indirectly, but you knew how she felt. she was still moving on from chaewon, and you were still moving on from aeri.

but the two of you had each other, and you were willing to see where things with your new “best friend” would go in the future.

“thank you, jen.” the music changed to a more upbeat song, which prompted yunjin to grab you by the hand and drag you more towards her members.

as aeri watched you disappear further from her sight from the bar, she downed the shot in her hand. the bitter taste in her mouth matched the bitter feeling in her heart. but it was only directed at herself, and not you.

aeri knew you deserved better, even though she wanted to be the best option for you. she knew she couldn’t. it was too late for her.

she motioned for the bartender to give her another shot of baijiu. he poured the white liquor into another glass and slid it towards her. with her left hand, she held the glass out and in your direction.

she was making a final toast to you.

“to my best friend,”

she whispered to herself, the music and ambience of the party drowning out everything around her. she caught one final glimpse of you laughing and holding onto yunjin, just like you had done with her in what felt like forever ago.

this was the first and final toast to your friendship, and the shattered pieces of a relationship that unfortunately was never meant to be.

the glass met her lips as she downed the liquor, feeling the bitterness slide down her throat. she wiped her eyes gently, not sure if she was crying because of the alcohol or because of you.

(she knew the reason why. she just didn’t want to admit it.)

“i love you, too.”

info dump about raggedy ann and andy, just recently watched the show and i am in love B))

hello!! ive been in the fandom for two and a half years (almost three lol), so i know a bit about raggedy ann and andy.

so raggedy ann and andy were created in the early 20th century, the former sibling coming first with her patent in september 1915. the most popular legend surrounding her creation is that she was based off an old rag doll that belonged to creator johnny gruelle's mother/sister (can't remember exactly), who he then drew a face on and gave to his beloved daughter, marcella, who sadly would pass away months after ann's patent. marcella's inclusion in the raggedy books has been seen by many raggedy historians as johnny working through his grief by immortalizing his daughter's likeness in his stories to remember her in a positive way. andy came around in august 1920 and is said to have been created with johnny's sons, worth and richard, in mind.

the 1977 film is probably where a lot of the younger fans first became interested in raggedy ann (well, that and tadc, and even then gooseworx is a pretty big fan of the film and even specifically based jax's voice on raggedy andy from the film), although the 1986 broadway musical has also been bringing a lot of people in through tumblr and tiktok. the film, despite ultimately flopping at the box office, had the esteemed richard williams at the helm of the animation, even animating the ever so popular "no girl's toy" sequence. of course, richard williams being richard williams, went way overbudget and way past the deadline and ended up being removed from the project just so it could get released. considering the composer of the film, joe raposo, theorized that the film flopping had something to do with the first star wars movie being released around the same time, it's interesting to think about how the raggedy film's fate could've been altered if it had released the year prior for america's bicentennial. the 1986 musical is a whole other can of worms, and im still learning a lot about it from being in the RARE server (which you should definitely check out, wink wink nudge nudge), but to summarize, a combination of a development team constantly at the brink of self-destruction, constant adherence to a family-friendly atmosphere spurred by parental concerns despite the dark themes playwright william gibson intended the story to have, and too much of the budget spent on expensive special effects that nearly killed the actors led to the musical notoriously flopping on broadway and ending its run prematurely never to be seen or heard from again. or so they thought.......

although the 1986 musical is considered a failure in the united states, over in russia, the story has a small cult following amongst childrens and community theatre productions. basically, in 1985, the musical was brought to the USSR as part of a cultural exchange between the two superpowers, and considering that russians had not been familiarized with raggedy ann or her cultural impact up until this point, this led to the rag doll and her friends not being seen as cheap americana, but rather somewhat of a childrens fable (ironic, considering raggedy ann as a character was born from johnny gruelle's stories...). because of this, russian productions of rag dolly (the 1986 musical) are plentiful, with even some very recent productions popping up every now and then. it should be noted that these productions rarely contain the original songs; sometimes the story will just be played straight with no music, while other productions will substitute the lack of musical songs with their own music. this can lead to some..... interesting results lol

i feel it is also important to bring up the various other adaptations of raggedy ann, too! there's the original books, of course, but if you're an animation nerd like me, there's the 1941 fleischer short (which takes some.... interesting creative liberties from the original source material), the two noveltoons shorts, the chuck jones holiday specials from 1978 and 79, the 1980s cartoon (watch at your own risk lol), and the two snowden specials from 1998; one is just a straightforward direct-to-vhs animated special, while the second is a full ice show with animated segments dispersed throughout. you get to see raggedy elvis! who doesnt want to see raggedy elvis?

in this last section ill just toss to you a bunch of links i recommend if you wanna learn more about raggedy ann beyond the movie!

(i should also probably mention now that some books and adaptations of raggedy ann feature racial stereotypes- i know suddenly its spring has a racial caricature in terms of adaptations specifically- likely due to the culture at the time. these depictions are obviously not right, but sadly when we're talking about a franchise that has been around for over a century, it's kind of unavoidable especially in the older books, so just be aware that those depictions will come up occasionally.)

I saw some of your tags on your recent reblogs, and it made me wonder what you tink of the recent outcry against "AI art" tools? With your tags, it sounds like you'd have different thoughts compared to what digital artists posting about it right now, and it got me kind of curious. No pressure to answer publically if you think you'll get flak for it - I'm just curious to hear your perspective because of those pieces you resurfaced.

I typed out a bit long thing about my own thoughts, but then realised that dumping that in your inbox would be a little unhinged. TL;DR - I'm neither here nor there. Selling the results is wrong, at present at least, but the tools themselves... ehhh? are they really??

That's the jist of it. If you'd like me to, I can elaborate with some of the play in 5 acts that I edited out. For context, I do art but I don't want to pursue a career in art in the current digital age, and I've worked on """AI""" (text to speech vocalisation) in the past but I'm not a staunch defender or anything, I just know some stuff about what "AI" is.

the outcry against ai art is because people are worried it'll take the place of actual artists and more recently because there have been a lot of artists whos art has been used in these ai programs databases without their permission or against their will (I think there's even a few instances where they used art from dead artists.) And I definitely agree with the outcry against that. I don't think ai generated art can meaningfully replace actual human art because art isn't just about creating images, ai cant replicate the self expression and communication and, well, humanity of human art, but I do think in the future it may take some jobs away from artists if an employer/company can get the same thing they want for free or cheap from an AI as they could with a human artist. there is also a real concern that ai images (not art this time but photographs) will become convincing enough in the future that it can lead to misinformation being created and spread incredibly easily.

I use Artbreeder mostly and sometimes Wombo and I use it to generate photos rather than art, I like using the shittier programs bc the stuff they generate is very uncanny which works great for horror art lol. I also don't just post the thing I generate on artbreeder, all my ai posts are heavily edited and I'm basically doing photomanipulation and collage somewhat, they genuinely take a lot of work and time. Ive been inspired by uncanny ai images for my own horror art for a good while (back when that "this image is meant to simulate a stroke" post/hoax was going around, which is how I learned about artbreeder, then called ganbreeder) before I started seeing ai "art" become a thing or neuralblender get popular. Im rly into the idea of horror that comes from something that looks familiar but not quite right and you cant quite figure out what you're looking at. I think you can see the ai influence in some of these,

I think ai is a great tool for artists that should be explored, and I personally haven't seen people object to that use of it, there's artists that use it to visualize their ideas before making the art themselves or use it to help come up with ideas for their art. but i don't think just generating an image and posting that is really art, there has to be some element of transformation from you.

yea ok i know im not the only one voicing concerns over amane getting forgiven this trial but. i am actually so worried for what'll happen if she is so im going to talk about it anyway

- on the one hand, the one everyone talks about: shidou's physical safety. this one's obvious

you can argue that amane is 12 and shidou is a grown ass man more than twice her age but also;;;; a lot of theories ive seen of amane also include her victim being an adult. 12 years old or not, there's a lot you can do with a weapon when you catch someone off guard, and shidou isn't exactly fit to fight someone off, even a 12 year old on adrenaline. also given how he's working himself to the bone keeping mahiru alive and taking care of fuuta he's probably not going to be all that alert to his surroundings either. though with kazui once again innocent leaning, hopefully this concern can be set aside for a while.

- on the other hand, what worries me more (ie making me shit my fucking pants in fear) is that there's another real threat amane poses that can't be solved by kazui being forgiven: amane is trying to convert fuuta.

shidou's safety can be accounted for, but whay about fuuta? fuuta, whose mental health is going to shit and at an all time low; fuuta, desperate for anything that'll give him a sense of safety and security? right now fuuta is a textbook example of someone vulnerable to cult indoctrination, which amane will happily provide. there was also @vampuppyy 's post (that i agree with and also makes other good points) that mentioned this could be compounded if amane is forgiven as well. hell, fuuta's second trial voice drama is even named BAPTISM OF FIRE.

if amane is forgiven this trial, someone is definitely getting hurt.

- the threat amane poses aside however, i do have my own reasons for voting her guilty this round beyond her potential to hurt someone. and it's that i don't think forgiving her is actually going to do her much good??

she says she'll forgive us for trial 1 and to think about our verdict again carefully with the implication that she expects to be forgiven this round. i think forgiving her this round will do nothing but just tell her 'we were wrong to not forgive you the first time, your cult beliefs are right actually. thank you for your generosity, please take this as an apology for our mistake' which does nothing but reinforce her belief that she's righteous in her cult mentality, especially if we're right about her murder being partially motivated by her believing her victim also broke one of the cult's tenets. she's going to turn out like muu singing about how 'it's not my fault' won't she?

i get why people are forgiving her this round and im not saying it's wrong (honestly good for amane for killing her abuser!! you go girl slay), but imo it's not the best decision to make right now given the circumstances. of course milgram's strict innocent/guilty system doesn't allow for any kind of nuance, and i do realize a guilty won't be good for her either, but i think doubling down on the guilty and not forgiving her this round might be the better decision in the long run. if we still want to forgive her, we always have trial 3 to do it anyway

(honestly i think if we wanted to forgive her it should've been in trial 1—but there's nothing we can do about that anymore, all we can do now is play damage reduction trying to fix what went wrong after the trial 1 results)

so uh. yeah that's all the reasons im guilty voting amane this trial 👍 i hope this was coherent

• arguments are definitely avoided ,, especially in this case ,, but the snarky remarks of how he didnt really care for the damage he would take in battle slipped out your mouth without your notice

• at first ,, op kind of brushed it off and focused more on trying to keep you safe from decepticons ,, yet when he had taken a heavy shot to his shoulder ,, your scolding made it clear that you were mad

• he could understand why you were upset ,, he did ignore what you had just said to avoid ,, and resulted in being scolded by both you and ratchet

• though the longer you went on about how he should have listened to you ,, how he should have been careful ,, how he should’ve seen it coming ,, he cant say he didnt feel slightly upset

• he felt as though you only saw him as a child as humans called them ,, coddling him when he knew what he was getting himself into ,, he’d known that since the beginning of the war

• and with you treating him in such a way ,, even though you meant it for good ,, he still became upset with it ,, as it was bad enough ratchet wouldnt let him back out when he was cleary needed ,, and he definitely didnt need you to talk his aft off about how he should’ve listened to you

• so maybe in the brink of the moment ,, with anger boiling his energon ,, he had said some harmful words ,, some sentences he didnt mean to say ,, only meant to keep them inside his mind

• obviously he had already stepped over the line with how aggressive his tone was in the beginning ,, but he crossed it more as he saw your eyes widen ,, the use of your last name coldly rolled off his glossa

• it didnt take as long to make up as it did with op ,, as jazz was quite free often with his open schedule (if lennox or op wasnt filling it up with patrols) and he was ready to talk

• the talk went smoothly ,, aside the few tears you let loose when you told him that you just didnt want to loose him ,, especially when it could be avoided

OKAY SO u only have the full context but i get to ramble ALL I WANT AS U SAID SOOOO Im working on an au's design that i told you about. so far silhoutttes good i LOVE THEM. dying at this one concept CAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH HAVENT SEEN IT YET BUT SORT OF BUT NOT ENTIRELY. Anyway design wise 3/5 look good! i can work with them (its colors per usual bestie as u KNOW) the other two look too much like Vamp lunar and of eachother and im like ... i need to fix this cause vvamp lunar different (did u know i fleetingly considered using him for this??? i decided against it i like making new things) THEN THEN THERES MY OWN PIZZAPLEX AU which i havent touched in a while but i rmabled enough about it to you but i never showed off the thing i was doing about that. SUN!LUNAR AU PLAGUES ME ONCE A WHILE. BUT I DONT TALK ENOUGH ABOUT HIM. Love me some Solar vibing with his new bro and not having a crisis about the other two. Whomst are still having issues (I will remind u all that NICE ECLIPSE'S MOON was something he was also trying to save. That it wasn't verbal abuse until the more recent episodes when they reintroduced how his world is. Makes a good reason for Solar to leave tho.) My au's Moon has bad mood swings. genuine question just as to how you go about culling rabbit kits? im in canada and at least up here ive seen some people post about using "cooling" (the freezer method) on here but in canada in both for livestock and scientific specimen collection thats considered unethical due to lack of evidence that it's actually a painless way to put animals down ...and at least in my experience its always been easier just to preform cervical dislocation and pop them in a cooler until i actually know what im doing with any slaughtered animals i have lol, this isnt like me trying to be a dick but this situation has a lot of rabbit breeders on the defense and as a direct result ive seen some questionable cull methods pop up

Cervical dislocation would be my go-to method just because it's what I know and feel the most comfortable with... I haven't yet had to nestbox cull with rabbits (haven't had large enough litters), but if I remember right, it's what I used to nest cull my mice and considering pinkie mice are even smaller than kits, it should work just as well if not better.

I definitely personally wouldn't be comfortable with the 'cooling' method because yeah, it really isn't a humane way to do things. I've heard of people using gas, but I honestly am personally not a huge fan of that either.

I've seen some folks who just give the kits a good wack to the head and, as brutal as it sounds, every time I've seen it done the kit has died completely instantly. This was by folks that are fairly strong in the first place though, and knowing that I'm not very strong at all, I would be hesitant to try this method myself out of fear that I wouldn't be able to hit it hard enough.

I'm sure there are plenty of other methods that I'm not thinking of - anyone else have anything different they do that they'd be willing to share? (you can send your methods to me anonymously if you're worried about how people might react to it)

please elaborate on the whole "does zane have his original programming" theory. I LOVE computers and technolgy and I find this stuff so, so interesting.

OKAY. SO.

Zane's Rebooted death has always been a big interest for me, and ive invested a ridiculous amount of time theorizing on how he survived. And I think I may have stumbled upon some ideas worth considering.

(This is, uh, pretty heckin long, so I'm gonna put it all under the cut!)

I first wanna preface this by saying that, although I have taken a few robotics and computer science classes and I've done a lot of personal research into the topic, my own experience primarily lies with web design - so I'm really just a big ol amateur at this. Take everything with a grain of salt. Now with that out of the way, lets get into it!

In season 4, Pixal referred to the hard drive on which she was stored as her "neural drive" - so with this information we can reasonably assume that all or most of the data and coding that pertains to a nindroid's sense of self are stored on a 'neural drive'. Meaning that Zane either has one of these neural drives as well, or something very similar.

So Zane's resurrection is a bit of a logistical headache, and here's why. Zane is a mechanical being, and despite being so lively, he does technically count as an AI. Which means Zane's sense of self is the result of some very, very sophisticated programming (and trust me, i have theories about how his programming works too). And programming has to be stored somewhere, be it a CPU, a cortex, or a hard drive of some kind. Like how your mind is stored in your brain.

Now, in regards to life and death, the big difference between humans and nindroids is that humans in this show canonically have souls, and that soul is what passes on to an afterlife. But the soul is a metaphysical thing, and nindroids, as far as we know, have no metaphysical attributes. To quite bluntly put it, they are 'man-made'. So we cant ascertain Zane's life and death conditions by the same standards we apply to the humans in the show.

But Zane was destroyed - like blammo, blasted to bits. As far as we know, the only part of him that came out intact was his broken faceplate. That means his neural drive would have been destroyed as well. So if the device containing everything that makes him who he is blew up...then how did he come back? And in particular, how did he end up in Borg Tower?

If we consider Decoded canon, or at least canon enough for consideration, then Zane himself regards his fight with the Overlord as his death. When presented with the memory of it, he says, "this is where I died." Whatever the basis for life and death in this universe may be, Zane believes his destruction at the hands of the Overlord qualified.

To answer that question, let's first take a look at what we do know:

The Overlord survived his fight with Lloyd due to his spirit lingering in the place where he died, then managed to come back when Borg Tower was built in that same location by haunting the servers. This process caused him to become partially digital himself, as he became functionally similar to a virus and could be stored on a hard drive. Heck, they even called him the 'Digital Overlord'. This suggests that there is some interchangeability between spiritual and digital states of being. How this process works remains to be seen.

Adding on from the previous point, it seems pretty clear (at least to me, anyway) that we were supposed to draw parallels between the Overlord's return and Zane's, since they came back roughly the same way. They both died near the foundations of Borg Tower, they both inhabited the tower's computers, and they both continued their lives after that point as digital entities. This implies that Zane's resurrection process was similar to that of the Overlord. But none of this is hard fact, so it's definitely up for debate. If and when the Overlord returns on-screen we'll be able to make more informed conclusions about this.

In Zane's final moments before death, we saw into his head. We saw him reflect on his life, we saw him smile in contentment as he embraced the consequences of his sacrifice. This suggests to me that he had every intention of dying and did not anticipate coming back. Whatever allowed him to return, it wasn't part of his original plan.

Zane in his original form was repeatedly stated to be incompatible with the systems at Borg Industries. This means that he likely wouldn't have been able to virtually transfer his consciousness into the Borg Tower servers, thereby escaping death at the last second (a popular theory i see floating around). There's also the fact that to accomplish this, Zane would've needed some specific hardware. Zane isn't able to upload himself to Borg's servers simply by virtue of being a nindroid for the same reasons you can't connect your toaster to the internet. A device has to be built with certain connective abilities - your computer, for instance, needs something called an NIC (Network Interface Card) in order to access the internet or other devices on a shared network. Zane can interface with his falcon, though, so it's possible he has some connective ability - but there is a wide realm of difference between connecting to a robot bird his dad built to be his friend and connecting to a major tech company's likely private servers that he was canonically incompatible with.

Zane has memory of his death. According to Decoded, Zane recalls his death right up until the bitter end. The memory was so traumatizing, in fact, that he locked it away in the recesses of his mind until it became a computer virus. This means that Zane was consciously present for the entire experience, from beginning to end. This wouldn't be the case if Zane had transferred out, or if he had been replaced with a replica.

It took Zane a while to come back. A lot of people set the timeline as his memorial happening only a few days after his death, but I think it'd be more realistic if it was at least a few weeks. Between reconstruction/repair efforts around the city, arranging the funeral, getting permissions to erect a memorial in a public park, commissioning the statue in the first place, and then the time it would take for the statue to be built...and all that happening while the city tries to get back on its feet in the aftermath of the Overlord's attack. And even if the timeskip was only a few days, then it's still notable because it means that whatever process allowed Zane to come back, it took time and/or effort. It wasn't an instant thing.

(And if we're gonna draw parallels to the Overlord again, then it's worth noting that the Overlord also took time to return.)

In Shadow of Ronin, Wu refers to Zane as "a living thing". And sure, SoR is kinda in that grey area of could-be-canon, in the same vein as 'Splinter in the Blind Man's Eye', Decoded, and 'Way of the Departed'. So any info provided in SoR should be taken with a grain of salt. BUT I still think it's worth considering going forward. If SoR!Wu was correct, then that means Zane classifies as being alive by the yet unknown standards of Ninjago's life-and-death system.

Zane retained his elemental power after being rebuilt, as well as his sixth sense. This is significant because death doesn't seem to be a determining factor in the succession of elemental power. For example, even after dying, Morro and Garmadon's respective elements didn't choose a new master (yet). Whatever requirements are in place for elemental power to pass on, death isn't necessarily one of them. Your power doesn't leave you the moment you die. So unless some other qualification was achieved when Zane died, his power likely would have remained with him. Which...kind of pokes a minor hole in the theory that post-Rebooted Zane is just a replica of the original. I know Zane himself admitted to being a replica, but I personally regard that as a matter of his theseus-esque existential crisis more than anything. But I'll admit this is one of my weaker arguments, so it's definitely up for debate.

Zane isn't the only nindroid to have died and come back. Cryptor died at the end of season 3, and then came back as a ghost in DotD. Which means that Cryptor, after dying, somehow passed on to the Departed Realm. Cryptor also had a few nindroid henchmen accompanying him, so he wasn't the only nindroid to die and come back in this manner. This suggests that there may be some worldbuilding gimmick that allows mechanical entities to pass on to the afterlife.

No one knows what powers Zane. Even after Pixal scanned him and built an army of clones in his likeness, even after his death, no one knew how his heart worked. I've seen a lot of people theorize that Zane's heart is either a human soul or soul-equivalent, with his unique soul-power being what brought him back. And that idea certainly has its merit, but it does have some issues as well. Like I mentioned in the previous point, Zane isn't the only nindroid to die and come back. And the nindroid army wasn't powered by the same things as Zane. We know this for a fact, considering their reliance on the lightning farms and later the electrocobrai, as well as the fact that no one knows what powers Zane. You can't replicate a power source that you can't identify, after all. And this is all relevant because it means that if Zane and Cryptor were both able to come back from the dead, and both of them were powered differently, then this rules out Zane's power source as the cause of his resurrection.

Souls do canonically exist in Ninjago, and were even mentioned explicitly a few times, (ex. Ronin's "cursed soul".) Whether nindroids have souls, much less Zane, remains to be seen. But given what we've already discussed, it's reasonable to assume that nindroids likely some kind of life force, be it a soul or something else.

(I do have a teensy bit more evidence, but that all involves Crystalized spoilers so we'll skip it for now. Besides, I think I already have enough to make my case.)

So if his heart isn't responsible for his resurrection, and he's probably not a true replica, and he didn't get virtually transferred out at the last second, then what happened? How did he come back?

Well, I have three different theories, all with varying degrees of likelihood.

The nature of Ninjago's life-and-death system is not exclusive to the human soul. Or at the very least, the concept of a soul/life force is not exclusively biological. Perhaps it is just a matter of sentience. If you're self-aware enough to consider yourself alive, then you're alive. I think, therefore I am. You think you're real, so you're real, and that quality alone entitles you to the same processes of life and death as everyone else. This would explain how nindroids, mechanical entities, are able to die, enter the afterlife, and come back as spirits of some sort. As mentioned before, the 'Digital Overlord' situation shows that there is an in-universe ability for spiritual entities to become digital - a process that probably works in reverse too. (This claim is possibly supported by the Prime Empire fiasco, but that's a rant for another day.) Either way, it seems to be that inhabiting a digital space is what allows this switch to happen. Zane died and passed onto the afterlife, or perhaps lingered in the area in the same way the Overlord did, and then became digital once more after coming into his new body.

Another possibility is that all of this boils down to a magic system gimmick - that is to say, golden power. The Overlord was defeated the first time by golden power. And Zane died as a result of golden power as well, being overloaded by too much of it until he exploded. And Cryptor...ostensibly was killed by golden power as well? Zane's ice killed him, and Zane's ice was supercharged by the Golden Armor, so in a roundabout way you could argue Cryptor's death was also caused by golden power. Perhaps there's some quality to golden power that allowed these three individuals to come back in the ways they did (which begs the question, does this same rule apply to everyone else destroyed by golden power?) It's a bit of a stretch, but it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility. The biggest hole in this theory, however, is that it doesn't explain the rest of the nindroids besides Cryptor (unless they were the souls of those nindroids who died touching the Golden Ore on Delta V)

The last option is that Zane wasn't completely destroyed, and his neural drive somehow managed to survive the explosion intact. Ronin came upon it and manually hooked it up to Borg's servers so Zane could rebuild himself and that way Ronin would have a proper ice master to deliver to Chen, and kidnapped him just moments after his reunion with Pixal. This is probably the weakest of the three theories, because it has SO many holes and is painfully circumstantial. But I figured I'd at least present it (also bc I wrote a oneshot about this idea and I can't help but toot my own horn a bit.)

I'm personally preferential towards the first theory, as it seems to make the most sense. But again, thats entirely up to your discretion.

When Kuroo had left the park you couldn’t help but breakdown, what was he thinking saying that kind of thing, and to you one of the nicest people Kenma has ever met?

He never understood it so almost a full three months later when you and Kenma are sat beside eachother on the couch watching one of your favorite series again for what feels like the thousandth time you hear a little knock.

Kenma gave you a small smile before pausing the tv pushing himself off the couch.

You watch as he furrows his brows looking at the door.

“Kuroo?” He asks, and he looks the worst he ever has, he’s got eye bags, his hair is disheveled and Kenma’s almost certain that he’s in pajama pants paired with his button down.

“Kenma” he breathes out trying to see over his shoulder, “is y/n here? I need to apologize!”

You stand up a little patting your sons back when you hear him whine.

He glances at the matching rings that adorn both yours and Kenma’s fingers and he knows it’s to late to salvage the tiniest bit of a romantic relationship the two of you had but he’s praying it’s not to late to create a coparenting relationship between the three of you.

And from that in, that’s what the three of you did, every other week, Kuroo spent with his son, at first it was really difficult for him to accept that you’d moved on, he’d have to mentally prepare himself in the parking lot almost an hour before going to get his boy, and he absolutely dreaded seeing Kenma practically hang off of you when that was all he wanted to do less than a month ago, and he especially couldn’t stand the way that everything your precious boy did reminded him of you, but eventually with lots of time he got over it, he met an incredibly sweet person and told you about them king before he wanted them to meet his son to ensure you were ok with others being in the baby’s life and before he knew it he was moving on and establishing a healthy co parenting relationship with you Kenma and his s/o!

Suna

He wasn’t sure what was happening to him, seeing you again stirred up lots of emotions, but he wasn’t a homewrecker, you seemed happy with Osamu and he couldn’t help but feel like that may have been the happiest he could imagine one of his kids as being yet he still knows it was pretty shitty of him to do everything he’s done in the past.

So that’s why when he goes into the shop this morning he asks to talk to both Osamu and you when the shop closes.

What results is probably one of the most civil talks you’d ever had with Suna. Your daughter was up playing in her room.

When he’d first bought up co parenting you and Osamu shared a look, “Suna…you know she sees Samu as her dad right? He uhm…adopted her” your voice sounds guilty and he gives you a sorrow filled smile, he’s got a few tears in his eyes.

“That doesn’t mean we can’t try!” Osamu corrects, “she just may not see you as her dad at first”

“Yea, I know that” and Suna does, he wishes he wouldn’t have been such a shitty boyfriend but he thinks that maybe it was destiny that he saw you sat in the shop from the window, or maybe it was a coincident but who knows he’s just glad to find that a short two years later he’s being called Papa while Osamu goes by Daddy or dada and that he’s able to go to one of the sweetest kid’s he’s ever Mets birthday party.

okay my dumb ass has been fixated on the “how dabi can be read as a csa victim” and have my thoughts together and wanna know if this makes sense to you (or if i’m out of it)

We know that Touya was groomed to be an extension of Enji to surpass All Might. He was only useful for his body (his power) and Enji exploited his son until he showed he couldn’t produce the results he wanted fast enough. It made Touya mentally unwell because he knew he was only useful if he could produce results. Which leads me to him exposing Endeavor. He explained to society that he and his family was abused and he was used as a tool by his father—him becoming a villain makes sense because he still sees himself as an extension of Enji so his mistakes and wrongdoings would fall on his father—which they did to an extent. The hero society basically told Dabi that he’s ruining his dad’s career and this could have been resolved quietly. Hawks also doubts Dabi’s story and Deku said basically “your dad is nice to me so there’s no need to ruin his life.” These are often things said to victims of SA when they finally have the courage to stand up to their abuser. Also the fact that Endeavor is a popular hero and in #1. Even if he doesn’t have the same base at All Might, he’s still a well-respected figure. Unlike Shigaraki, this makes Dabi’s trauma “invalid” in the eyes of society because his abuser is “a good person” and “they would never do that” which is also commonly said SA victims. That and the fact that Dabi still has some positive feelings towards Enji despite being abuse and still wants his attention no matter what, which makes people still doubt his trauma because he doesn’t flat out hate Enji like Shigaraki hates AFO. Shigaraki’s trauma is seen as valid because it was by a person everyone collectively hates while the hero society still favors Enji because he’s a hero and “heroes don’t do bad things.”

Youre hitting a lotta great points head on.

Ive got so many thoughts about this topic and I really never see it talked about, or Dabi really talked about as a victim in general. A lotta this I really feel (from the fandom) has been real bad since Touya's backstory and the abuse and trauma he suffered ended up being a lot more complex than other victim characters in the series. Touya was groomed and abused in a very covert way, especially when he was real young, Endeavor went about grooming him to view the training and abuse as love and approval, and set him up with all these pressures in a "positive light." Touya for some reason (probably mental health related) was very vulnerable to Enji's grooming too. It worked almost too well on him, and he really did see the abuse as love and "wanted it" in a warped sense, because he believed being used was the only way he could be loved. That can definitely be looked at as a parallel of sa/csa since a lot of victims, especially in grooming cases, do view the abuse as positive, "love" their abuser, and genuinely don't understand they're being traumatized.

The whole point of how he's treated by the other characters and narrative too is what really gets me, especially when you compare it to how other victims are treated. If it was every victim I'd assume Hori can't write characters sympathizing with victims but comparing how other characters traumas have been handled compared to Touya's is really drastic. But it does feel realistic, honestly. Like you said, his trauma isn't treated as valid just because of who is abuser is and how he (Touya) processed the abuse.

i might get some hate for this.

but with the fan base having grown exponentially in the last few years with folklore and the rise of tiktok, taylor’s popularity has skyrocketed (IMO), and i think this needs to be said.

while i’m sure taylor has had some say in a lot of the finer details when it comes to the tour, i’m also sure there is so much more that we don’t know in relation to her contract with ticketmaster. and ticketmaster is far beyond the size of even taylor, who is arguably one of the biggest artists of our generation.

ticketmaster has so much reach and ownership when it comes to ticketed events, and it’s likely taylor has very little ability to make the kind of massive change people are demanding she speak out and make.

at the end of the day, have things gone horribly wrong with this tour thus far? absolutely— but i think the blame needs to be on ticketmaster rather than taylor. she is generous, and she has shown time and time again throughout her career that she cares about us.

i’ve been a swiftie since debut. i’ve seen it all when it comes to taylor being hated by the general public, bullied by other celebrities, judged harshly by the media. she didn’t deserve any of that horrible, negative energy then, but she definitely does not deserve to be spoken about the way ive seen many “fans” speak about her in the aftermath of this ticketmaster disaster.

is she human? yes. does she make mistakes? yes. is she perfect? no. i think there are probably ways in which she could make things better, but she also has a team that she has to work through when it comes to making public statements; she is a brand, this is her business, and she’s smart. she won’t jeopardize everything she’s built because people want her to make a statement ASAP. she has to make sure what she says doesn’t get her into legal trouble— and this is assuming she wants to make a statement. based on what i know about her and how vocal she’s been about injustices before, i can’t imagine she won’t make a statement, but we’re definitely not entitled to one when this disaster wasn’t a result of her direct actions.

i hope taylor knows those who truly love and appreciate her and her work would never burn merch, spew hatred toward her, or “unstan” her. she shouldn’t be entirely blamed for mistakes mostly made by a massive company that should have been prepared for this kind of demand.

i truly hope every fan who wants to go to the eras tour is able to do so; we’re so far from the start of tour still, and so much can happen between now and then. don’t lose hope. you’re allowed to be angry, upset, sad, devastated, or any other emotion you’re feeling. but remember that taylor is a person too. she doesn’t have to tour; she’s doing this for us. and i’m sure this is far from what she imagined would happen.

others might disagree, but i hope taylor knows that i and other swifties like me are on her side. while we may be feeling a range of emotions, at the end of the day, my love and appreciation for taylor and her music are the reason i’m a swiftie in the first place, and that’s the heart of it all for me.

For real i don't know whats going on now either but i will give my input. you havent blamed the fandom as a whole and i appreciate it, its really not cool to see some act like the entire fandom is bad when its just a few people ive seen this before in other fandoms and now im seeing it again. people dont know how to moderate their dash or fandom experience anymore ive been in smaller fandoms with more "drama" and its quite easy to avoid it if people use the built in features staring right them. but that requires effort and theyd rather blame everyone else it makes me angry, i aint to blame and neither are you and most of the other people here

oh absolutely, “x fandom is bad and everyone in it is bad !!” is an unfortunately common sentiment to see online. i haven’t seen anything that extreme in mc/mcd so far but i’ve definitely seen it (and much worse) with other fandoms i’ve been involved in. even on sites without easily accessible filters it’s pretty easy to get the algorithm to understand what you do and don’t want to see, and it’s made especially easy on tumblr with the ability to avoid certain tags altogether. there’s always going to be things that slip through the cracks both in algorithms and filters, but it’s definitely not as hard to avoid stuff as some make it out to be

that being said, i can understand why some people would start to leave or be frustrated with the mc/mcd community - it’s a pretty small place, and i can understand why people would see being involved in it as unnecessarily stressful for the amount of content produced, especially considering that a lot of the people i’ve seen express issues with the community seem to have been involved personally with whatever issues have happened and are also some of the biggest content producers in this corner of the internet. i’m sure at some point that’s gotta start feeling like your work isn’t being appreciated a whole lot

overall just think people need to chill out a little. it’s ok to move on to other things and it’s also ok to stick around, and neither option should result in people being upset with you

MY TIME HAS COME. IVE BEEN HERE TOO LONG AND SEEN TOO MUCH. Most of the hate I see Jess and Jason get publicly is for bad writing choices, but. Uh. THINGS RUN MUCH DEEPER THAN THAT! Here's a big compilation, of both serious and less serious things, that people have gripes with Jess and Jason for.

Disclaimer: A lot of this stuff is sourced from twitter, which I do not use. I am a MCD fan and have been here since MCD Season 1, I also am not a Mystreet/modern content fan. There could be stuff/context I'm missing for some things. I'm trying to keep this post to stuff I can provide links/sources for, in order to prevent that.

Tw for discussions of homophobia, racism, abusive workplace, uncomfortable IRL age-gaps, fatphobia, and depictions of abuse and incest. This post is long, be warned.

Homophobia:

Jessica is a fetishist of gay/mlm relationships. I feel this is pretty visible through her actions as a whole, but in case you don't believe me, here's her tweeting about being a Septiplier fan.

This fetishization does leak into the content Jessica creates. Jason himself has confirmed that the way Jess wrote Laurance and Garroth was intentionally written as queerbait.

Racism:

Yeah so remember how Jason said that they'd never have someone on the team make the skintones of characters to be lighter. Remember how he said that in those tweets above. Yeah well they did that they absolutely did that. They do it in the official poster merch, in the official music videos, thumbnails, and in the skins/ingame footage as well.

(Lots of the in-game whitewashing seems to be a side-effect of the shaders they are using, as they overexpose the footage and make everything lighter as a result. The difference in skintones is glaringly obvious, and definitely would've been tackled by the team by now if they cared about whitewashing as an issue.)

It took until Season 3 of MCD to have a single black character purposefully placed into the show. He had potential to be more than a side character, but the show was cancelled soon after his introduction. As far as I'm aware, Teony is still the only black character in all of Mystreet/Phoenix Drop High. She is a side character who is not included in the minigames or other modern content. Unless I'm misremembering, she doesn't appear in Mystreet in anything beyond Season 2.

Let's talk about Nana Ashida now. Or as she was known as up until late parts of Mystreet, "Kawaii-Chan." Good news! Jessica and crew realized that having an anime-obsessed neko-girl who works at a maid cafe and loves "shipping" and all things "Kawaii" was offensive, and changed her name as a result. Bad news! They confirmed this character to have Japanese heritage through changing her name, further enforcing every single stereotype she carried and more!

(Though it's not as if there was a very good out for this aside from acknowledging the stereotype, tearing out everything about her character, and rebuilding her from the ground up. Either you make your Japan stereotype Japanese, confirming she's a walking stereotype, or you make your Japan stereotype a white girl, and confirm that she the character is stereotyping Japanese people. Either way, they wrote an offensive stereotype and refuse to fix it, because the stereotype is intrinsically tied to her character, and all that is supposed to be appealing and likable about it.)

Fatphobia:

I don't even know what to say. Here is a roleplay video from 2018, where the sideplot is that Aphmau eats too many hamburgers, causing her to hiss at fruits and vegetables like a feral cat. She goes for a jog with aaron, where she fails miserably until being deceived that there is a... "wild hamburger" in the bushes. The video ends with her bursting into tears over turning down a cookie. Eating and food humor are common in this era of video from the Aphmau channel, and these topics are never handled well.

Basically every character who is implied to like food (aside from Nana/Kawaii-Chan, because of course a Japanese stereotype Cutesy Icon™ can't be fat, because being fat is not appealing in the eyes of the writers) is implied to also be both unhealthy and overweight. Three out of Four of the trivia bullet-points for Betty (FCU character) are about her love of food, because she genuinely has no other memorable traits. If I have to tell you what is wrong with this, I can't help you.

Abusive Workplace Allegations:

Back while it was still known as BluJay, Catface Studios was reportedly not a good place to work. Here are some twitter testimonies from ex-employees, ranging from things such as PTSD, to possible legal threats for speaking out about working conditions/experiences. (Some of the text is very small, click through to read better.)

A lot of these tweets are, at this point, deleted. Especially the more negative/accusatory ones. Some of them can still be found online, search for them if you're curious.

(And context for people unaware, _Castr_ aka Castor is the same person as The Chicken Shaman in MCD. He used to work on/be a part of a lot of Jess' old content, and was a writer on various projects for her for a VERY long time. I believe he was involved in the writing of MCD since Season 1, but if anyone has a source on that so I know I'm not misremembering, feel free to let me know. His sudden release was VERY shocking to me personally, seeing as how long he's been a part of Jess and Jason's work.)

Jess and Jason have also pretty iconically had beef with Sebastian Todd, the voice of Laurance. This beef is why Laurance rarely appears in videos, and was written out of Mystreet. I personally don't really care for either of the involved parties, but here's what Mithzan has to say about Sebastian:

Child Labor (???):

I literally don't know how else to describe it. This tweet (and linked google doc) from 2015 is the source of this one:

Yep, that's right, kids as young as 13 were encouraged to apply for this! Or even 12, if your birthday was close enough to the application date. Though it mentions "promotion", there is no payment mentioned or listed anywhere on the document. Presumably promotion is referring to asking for more important jobs, such as writers or voice actors, though I don't know for certain. Despite the mention of "credit given to you as the body actor" I do not remember seeing body actors ever credited on Aphmau videos of this era. (If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me, but I checked a couple MCD S2 episodes that came out a couple months after this, and could only ever find VAs credited.)

I don't know how young anyone who applied or was accepted was, and I don't know what their working conditions were like. I personally doubt anyone accepted was paid for their time at all, though I have nothing to back that up.

(Also, I don't know if that email is still active. And don't plan on testing it. I'd encourage not sending anything, just in case.)

Aggression towards fans:

This is more a point towards Jason specifically, but multiple times he has spoken out very... I don't even know how to phrase it. Agitatedly? Blame-y? Against fans on twitter for seemingly minimal or nonissues.

These are some of my "favorites," and by favorites I mean "I cannot believe a grown man actually said these things to young fans on twitter, for the crime of... wanting to see more non-Aarmau ships with Aphmau ???"

I'm sorry, but "whoring Aphmau's character out" is an INSANE thing to say about your literal actual IRL wife.

This is less of a serious accusation in comparison to some of the others, but looking at it with the following in mind makes an interesting picture:

Jess and Jason's Relationship:

Hate that I have to make this a bullet point given how fetishistic and weird people online are about celebrities/internet personalities' IRL relationships, but unfortunately this is necessary. The summary is, Aphmau and Aaron's 4 year age gap (Freshman and Senior in highschool) displayed in Phoenix Drop High is based on Jessica and Jason's real life relationship. As of making this post, I believe Jessica's IRL age is 33 and Jason's IRL age is 37. They met before Jessica was 18, seeing as she moved in with him when she turned 18, as stated by Jessica herself in her Draw My Life video. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekOog6xKDMQ)

TLDR: Assuming the timeframe displayed in PDH is correct, their IRL ages suggest that Jessica was 14 and Jason was 18 when they started dating. This age gap is disturbing for obvious reasons.

Irresponsible Depictions of Abuse/Incest:

Ein is a character. He's certainly a character. If you don't know who he is, he appeared in Mystreet and Phoenix Drop High as a villain who wanted to romantically abuse and manipulate Aphmau. In some cases he succeeded. Towards the end of Mystreet Season 6, he was revealed to be Aphmau's sister. In contrast to his villainous persona in the main-story content, he appeared as friendly, teasing and even flirtatious in the mini-game and non-canon content. Many fans were upset to see him treated as a friendly member of the cast, instead of as the incestual abuser he is in canon.

Around mid-late 2018, many fans on tumblr were vocal about how they found Ein's story and character handled to be upsetting and uncomfortable. A voice actor for the channel (condescendingly) responded that depictions of bad things do not necessarily mean the writer is bad. This post was then reblogged by Aphmau's official tumblr account, without any commentary.(https://www.tumblr.com/aphmau/179882946599/hey-so)

Obviously writing about problematic things does not make you a bad person. You cannot have a story without conflict. What is concerning is writing about this content irresponsibly. Many fans around this time failed to understand that Ein should not be shipped romantically with Aphmau. This behavior was most alarmingly seen by (younger) fans who looked to the out-of-character minigame content of Ein for how he should be treated, and began shipping Aphmau and Ein without understanding the full force of their actions.

(Tumblr) Fans were then concerned about the responsibility involved in displaying this kind of content uncritically to younger audiences, especially since this time was when the mini-game videos became very clearly more aimed towards younger kids. This was Jessica's response, posted on tumblr: (https://www.tumblr.com/aphmau/179945128104/the-audience-of-my-channel)

It touches on the topic, but falsely identifies the main concern of fan backlash of mini-game and overall channel content becoming kid-friendly, instead of the real concern of irresponsibly exposing children to """friendly""" depictions of incest and abuse.

Making funny, silly content of abusers does not successfully condemn an abuser's actions. Making funny, silly content of an incestual relationship does not convey to the audience that the writer sees these actions as wrong. Without knowing that these text posts exist, the average fan would likely never even know they supposedly saw these things as an issue.

Not only has Catface never apologized for this, they later tried to retcon it out of existence:

TLDR: Jessica/Catface has acknowledged that Ein was written to be Aphmau's sister multiple times, including a mini-game video in 2019 that directly referred to them as siblings in the title and thumbnail.

At some point after this comment was made, they changed the video title to be consistent with the "red herring" statement.

To spell it out, after defending their irresponsible portrayal of this abusive and incestual character for years, Catface quietly pretended like it was never an issue and erased all references to his sibling status, so that they did not have to keep trying to explain themselves or apologize.

If you need more proof, check out this tumblr post below where Jessica does not contest Ein's sibling status, which is directly mentioned and discussed in the ask prior! If it really was a red herring, then go on Jessica! Why not correct it here, when the sibling discussion is causing issues all the way back in 2018? I think it's very clear why nothing about this was ever corrected earlier, and it's because they saw it as nothing needing correction. There is no red herring. Just a poorly-handled retcon.

Many characters are given this treatment in canon, where their poor writing was later friendly-ified or excused for little to no reason:

The treatment and attempted "redemption" of Derek, Aaron's abusive father in Phoenix Drop High/Mystreet, is another clear example of this poorly thought-out behavior.

As well as Travis and Katelyn's abusive relationship, which is initially handled seriously, then comically, then swept aside altogether.

As well as Ghost, the undead form of Emmalyn from Minecraft Diaries, who repeatedly forces herself upon Mystreet Zane, because she has confused Mystreet Zane and Minecraft Diaries Zane, and for some reason has also confused Minecraft Diaries Zane, the man who killed her husband... With her husband. Makes sense /s.

As well as.... whatever the hell is going on with Aphmau and Aaron's relationship in Mystreet altogether. Remember that time in Season 4 when Aphmau threw a rock at Aaron after he just got done freezing to death or whatever, because the person that helped him not die... was a girl...... ?????? and she was...... jealous ??????????? so she tried to hit him with a rock??????????????????? was this supposed to be cute??????????????????????????????????

Okay now here's the less serious stuff. Reasons people dont like Jessica and Jason beyond the horrible stuff.

Because the original asker was just asking why people are mad at Jess and Jason, and despite all of the above being very prevalent I mainly see people angry at them for the following:

Bad writing. It comes from both Jess and Jason. Stuff that isn't bad because it's offensive, but because it's just plain bad. In all produced rps, they frequently forget their own lore, characterizations, and write things that just plain make no sense. A lot of people get frustrated with that, understandably.

Stringing fans along. New MCD/Mystreet/Roleplay content is continuously promised and not followed up on. Seasons/series are left unfinished without warning, or rushed to completion in order to throw them in the bin and stop having to write them. Lots of fans have grown tired of hoping for new content for the things they originally followed for. The Aphmau Fantasy Stories channel is inactive for a reason.

Related to above, she mostly just does clickbait-cocomelon-styled videos targeted towards very young children now, which frustrates a lot of old or returning fans looking for more serious content.

Also related to above, retiring or benching main/beloved characters for seemingly no reason. This is most demonstrated by Laurance, but can also be seen in characters like Garroth, Daniel, Lucinda, and Vylad. (One commonality seems to be that this "benching" frequently happens when there are difficulties with employing the voice actor.)

Shipping. Yeah Aarmau is basically the only Aphmau ship featured anymore in all her content, and has been for a while. So people who don't ship that often don't like Jessica, Jason, or their modern content, since the characters are their self-inserts and it's basically their fault.

Content stealing. A lot of her work references other established works, such as making the wyvern dragon language in Minecraft Diaries just being the dragon shout language from Skyrim, taking the titles and sometimes names of the Divine Warriors from mythical figures featured in Final Fantasy, or, most egregiously, stealing the entire Mystreet Season 6 Finale from Fullmetal Alchemist. Yes, they really did do that. In my opinion, some of these seem like simple references to media she enjoys, while some of these (looking at you Mystreet Finale) just feel lazy at best and incredibly deceitful at worst.

The baby voices. All the VAs, including Aphmau, pitch their voices up to sound cartoony now. It's grating.

Jess learned the word "himbo" and now it is Garroth's only personality trait. It's grating.

The Fucklist, or sometimes referred to as The List, is a list Jessica made and posted on her tumblr of characters who, in a less child-friendly version of MCD, would have fucked. The sentence alone is upsetting enough. It's upsetting to read as well. And she didn't even include the canonical Aphmau and Aaron fucking, because it was spoilers at the time. Maybe this doesn't belong here, I don't know if this is the One Reason why a fan has turned on her. But it's probably been the straw that broke some poor camel's back out there.

Some Mystreet fans don't enjoy the more lore-heavy later seasons, and prefer the sillier slice-of-life first couple seasons that the series was originally written with the intention of following.

Similarly to above, some Mystreet fans don't enjoy the MCD crossover lore added late in Mystreet Season 6. Some MCD fans don't enjoy that the series now crosses over with Mystreet.

And more im probably not thinking of at the moment.

ok so ill probably add to this slowly but time for some stats and answers and stuff! obviously dont check this out if you dont wanna be spoiled (thread)

first, here's the actual amounts of each results people have been getting:

when i say i had NO IDEA we'd get so many chuunis....watching the numbers go up the first few days felt like a fever dream haha

but its comforting to know that everyone is cringe and free! i for one welcome our new gothy overlords!

i was also really surprised that gimmick idols got some of the lowest scores 😭 the space that spans is so wide so i was expecting way more people to get that result since i figured it'd catch a lot of people, but i guess you guys are rare!

now its time to look at the archetype list:

this was pretty tricky, especially cause i was working on the quiz for funsies at silly o clock in the morning for two nights while i was dealing with some sickness induced exhaustion lol. i wanted to include more (a few like the princely type nearly made the cut), but I found there was

1. a lot of crossover between archetypes (this even happened with some of the idols i chose for the results image!!! hanayo being average idoltwt user AND a harapeko type or minori being average idoltwt user AND fake it til you make it for example)

2. some archetypes that were only based on visuals or not on personality at all

3. kind of lowkey paradoxical (eg. someone might really fit the princely type, but often in idol shows they make it so that trait is pushed on them, but they secretly wanted to be feminine all along, which like, ok but then if someone actually fits the princely vibe I'd be slightly struggling for examples and we'd get all tied in knots unfortunately)

4. the amount of answers was already getting so long that if i added any more it'd start getting difficult to come up with more answers for some of the more concrete questions (like what you'd do post graduation etc)

...so I had to kind of draw the line somewhere. especially cause i thought like 3 of my idoltwt mutuals would take it and that's it 😭 maybe I'll make a part 2 or a more extensive quiz later who knows (guess who just remembered the 'rock is life' type idols and screamed into a pillow for only just remembering...)

so the idol archetype categories themselves are DEFINITELY things I've picked up on in multiple series, altho they may require a lil bit of explaining so I'll quickly summarise each one when we go thru the characters. i should probably mention that some of these (like the chuunibyou) are word for word archetypes that people use all the time, while some were just me trying to put words to the character types so the wording was just a descriptor (fake it til you make it queen), altho i hope they were useful! ive seen a few people online using these terms after taking the quiz which is super cute...🙇 let's take a look at these categories shall we?

(note: i have varying levels of familiarity w these characters, i wanted to make it reasonably varied and recognisable but some of them i kind of just knew what category they fit and that's it)

THE CHUUNIBYOU

to those who don't know, the chuunibyou is a pretty popular archetype beyond just idols, and tends to refer to people who are stuck in or going through their 'edgy phase'; chuu-ni being short for second year of middle school syndrome (think like, 13 or 14 year olds), but the general vibe tends to be associated with emo or goth phases, claiming to have an evil eye, being or being a servant of Satan, hiding a secret shy or self conscious side with edge, yaknow. average tween behaviour. it's not limited by age tho especially in anime media! one of the examples i used is a 26 year old grown man with a job. never too late!

Like with a lot of the other categories it was really hard to narrow down the results page characters, but from left to right:

1. Todo Yurika from Aikatsu!

Yurika takes being a lifestyle lolita to the next level, being a gothic lolita and punk idol with the chuuni character of a vicious vampire, which she desperately tries to keep up as part of her career, only letting people see her quiet nerdy self once in a blue moon. She has a secret soft spot for garlic ramen and sings some of the best songs in the entire series (which is an achievement cause aikatsus songs are god tier).

music rec (won't do this for everyone, only ones i know well, but pls feel free to fill in the blanks in the comments/reblogs!): check out Glass Doll, Onegai Venus and Eternally Flickering Flame! She has two singing voices over the series, both of which are incredible.

2. Asselin BB II (Asselin Beelzebub the Second) from The Idolm@ster SideM!

Asselin is a genius chef in his mid-twenties that ended up on the streets being kicked from countless jobs because of his ....quirks. He's a chuuni through and through, and its something a lot of the people around him didn't know how to handle, but when he gets taken in by Cafe Parade (both an idol group AND a real life dining establishment) to be their chef, he finally finds a place where he belongs. He's goofy and crazy while simultaneously being an introverted and nervous personality, and claims to be a servant of Satan, which just happens to be an adorable plushie that he carries around for comfort and finds difficult to be without, who gets painstakingly dressed up in matching outfits whenever he's included in a card! Don't be fooled by his softness though, this servant of satan has PIPES. You may recognise his voice, as he's played by well-known seiyuu Furukawa Makoto.

3. Tsushima Yohane from Love Live Sunshine!!

Probably the most famous on the list so I'll keep it brief! She's been at this chuuni business since she was a little girl, so she encountered a lot of loneliness before joining Aqours, but she's got a cute and clumsy personality and has a tendency to yell about being a fallen angel. She's an absolute sweetheart, despite claiming that she's angered God himself, and is always there at the scene to deliver an edgy pose or stunning vocals.

okay im like. actually curious about anime girl arthuriana. youre the only person ive ever seen posting abt it and you told me abt it once and like.... i kind of Have To Watch It.. do you know where i can find it. also is it like good in a bad way OR is it bad in a good way. should i watch it

well as I have personally been an avid fan of anime girl king arthur for 10 years now obviously I think it's good in a good way. however it has a lot of what is most aptly described as "anime fanservice" baked into the series roots, and a quick look through your blog archive suggests that you don't have a lot of anime exposure, so I can't really say how easily you'll be able to like... look past some of the more distasteful elements of the genre. arthuriana itself is also weird and horny and ~problematic~ though so i'm not saying this because I think you can't stomach it I just feel the need to add a disclaimer because fate/series started with a porn game and never really let go of those roots it just also has bonkers lore. personally i think the good is so good that it more than overshadows the bad and you should definitely give it a try

fate/ is also a bit of an odd series in that translation projects for it are under some kind of curse so despite it's immense overseas popularity a lot of it never gets localised, or gets bad localisations, or fan translation projects for it drop halfway through, or turn out to have been partially machine translated, and so on. I'm sure this is a struggle arturiana can relate to lol. as a result for a lot of fate/ content you have no choice but to pirate it if you want to read or play it at all. there are a lot and i mean a Lot of different entries but individual entries of it are often pretty loosely connected so there's not really a fixed reading order, just a few sets of entries that are directly connected and the rest tends to follow in themes more than setting, and later entries tend to assume you already know how the magic shit works so it stops explaining it. this is also very arturiana of it.

the easiest way to test the waters and see if you'll enjoy fate/ is to watch the anime "Fate/Stay Night [Unlimited Blade Works]". this is an adaption of the second route of the original game, as such it is missing a bit of context from the first route but it should still be easy enough to understand and it's imo a good representation for the overall vibes of the series (both good and occasional bad). last I checked it's available to watch on crunchyroll and netflix. after Unlimited Blade Works comes the movie trilogy "Heaven's Feel", which adapts the third and final route. alternatively you can watch "Fate/Zero" instead, which is on the same streaming platforms. Fate/Zero is the prequel to Fate/Stay Night and has a darker and edgier tone to it which may or may not be up your alley. both of them feature the original anime girl king arthur as one of the protagonists so they're good to see if you'll like her as well

there's a bunch of other fate/ anime on netflix, but none of them are good introductory points. the "Fate/Apocrypha" anime is a notoriously bad adaption, and if you're interested in that one I strongly strongly suggest looking for the manga adaption instead (Apocrypha is particularly cursed, the original novels never finished fantranslation and the manga is still ongoing so the shitty anime adaption is the only way to get the full story in english currently). the "Fate/EXTRA Last Encore" anime is a kind of spinoff slash alternate ending to the PSP game "Fate/EXTRA" and is likely to be incomprehensible without playing that one first (which i recommend because it's a personal favourite). the "Fate/Grand Order" anime are probably fine to watch after Stay Night, just be aware that they're pretty mediocre as adaptions and take place a good chunk into the story of the game with the same name so you're missing a lot of buildup. the "Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya" anime are unapologetic pedobait and not worth the trouble

if you like the Stay Night anime I would suggest reading the visual novel as a next step! as said before the original has three routes, and it's actually the first one that hasn't been adapted properly that focuses the most on anime girl king arthur's character. in this post I explain how to get the game. the nature of animated adaptions is also that they can't possibly convey everything in the original text, so even after watching the adaptions the visual novel will still offer a lot of fresh material.

another good next step is to pick up the mobile game Fate/Grand Order, it's the current flagship title of the series and is still ongoing. it's a gacha game (i don't know if that means anything to you. it's got glorified gambling basically. think fortnite lootboxes but for playable characters) so you might not want to touch it but I like the gameplay and story a lot so I'm still going to suggest it because it has a shitton of round table figures as playable characters and they feature heavily in parts of the main story as well. if you don't want to engage with gambling mechanics you can easily look up the story on youtube instead

i could go on for a lot longer because there simply is a lot of it lol but i think this is already more info than you really need to get started and if you have more questions I'll gladly answer them. I hope you enjoy it!
