Between the pages of a book I found this photo I took of my primary school classroom on the last day of class in 2000 and I distinctly remember taking it as a kid and thinking "this is the present but one day when I am old it will look so quaint and nostalgic"

though I had trouble believing it because it seemed impossible for the year 2000 (futuristic-sounding date) to feel like a past era

#favourite detail is the capital K in cursive on the board. you know some poor kid was suffering over it #it's one of the worst ones!#anyway the fact that we had those old timey tables with a hole for the ink makes it look even more dated than the pic quality #they didn't factor in my sentiment as they felt normal to me but now i look at this and think #wow my school hadn't had a new budget for furniture since the sixties huh

Made myself sit down and put a fork in it today #I like Jackson Crawford's translation of the Poetic Edda a bit more but Terry's is good #If you didn't know: Sigurd eats the heart of a dragon (Fafnir) and gets some cool powers from it #Sigurd is the same guy as Siegfried in the German stories (which don't seem to focus on the dragon stuff as much..?)#I haven't read as many of the German stories though. The Norse stuff's more my domain

It's not moth season here yet. But here's a species I drew because I wanted to see it 1 day... & Then last summer it did actually drop by my moth trap to say hi!

Blotched emerald moth, a beautiful species that feeds on oak leaves 💚

You may not think you love moths. "I prefer bigger flappy things like birds" you might say. But listen... Birds feed moth caterpillars to their chicks. Some much-loved garden birds rely on these caterpillars to feed their young, and time their egg-incubating accordingly. Love birds? Then you need to love moths. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

I had a fun conversation with some other cartoonists in a National Cartoonists Society open house Zoom a couple of months ago about the difference between traditional inking and "digital" inking. I mentioned always feeling a little weird calling it "inking" as, obviously, no "INK" is required in any way. The idea sat in the back of my head until I also realized how often I draw myself at a drawing board I RARELY use anymore, and I figured I could combine the concepts and make Dandy the voice prodding the questions. He's FAR less antagonistic than Skeezicks, who I used to use as the Anxiety Demon in the strip, but still able to get under my skin for the sake of comedy. Plus... I never get tired of drawing him. What can I say, it's my comic strip. I'm self-indulgent. lol

I was tagged a few days ago by @serially-wayhaven for WIP show and tell and I now have more progress on my attempted Wayhaven binding. I printed out a book! Holy shit! Looks like real book pages and everything!

I ordered some supplies for putting all of the pages together and that will hopefully be here in the next week. It does mean this is on hold again until then while I wait and also absorb a bunch of tutorials.
