Doctor Beverly Crusher @SpaceDocMom There should never be any social pressure against talking about health needs openly and honestly. Hey!! I stumbled upon your post about UC, and, my girlfriend is just going through the very same thing with a diagnosis of a severe UC for over a year now.. Is there anything that you could share as words of advice? Any hope to spare our way that things can get better? ( & I love love love your art )
Hello, and thank you !!
I'm so sorry your girlfriend is going through such an awful time. What I can say there is a light at the end of the tunnel. For me it was taking a very strong probiotic that targeted the colon. It literally changed my 6 year long severe UC into remission in 3 days. Does that mean it'll work for everyone? Not necessarily- everyone is different. But what I'm trying to say is not everything her doctor will suggest will be the answer. There's also pills now that are on the market to help with UC. I've been diagnosed for almost 10 years now, and medication for it has gone a LONG way. There's options out there, but it's okay to try home remedies as well.
As for advice, if she hasn't already get medical emergency cards from her doctor. Docs are going to say 'avoid stressful situations' because stress is the trigger for UC, but we all know that's impossible. The medical card will inform spaces with private bathrooms that, by law, have to allow her to use it.
Healthline also has an IBD app that connects people with UC and IBS in a informative, community kind of way. I totally recommend it to have her feel she isn't alone and to help with specific advice. It's also okay to call off work/school when flares are really bad, and if it's option down the line to work from home so she's always near the restroom.
Because all in all it boils down to having her be as comfortable as possible. Severe UC is tough, so please make sure she's taking Slow Release Iron, Vitamin D, and drinking plenty of water on top of her medication. The disease relies on how well you're taking care of your body, so those additional meds are a must. Try out different remedies like I mentioned before too, but also let her know it's okay to tell people about her disease. For the longest time I held shame, but in recent years I've been more open about it and it's made me feel better about myself and my situation. People call me IBS Warrior now, and while it's a meme, it does feel pretty empowering not gonna lie.
I hope any of this helped! She's got this, and it sounds like she has an amazing partner to help her through it. Of course if you have any other questions feel free to reach out!

Ive been an artist, student of art & photography, designer, photographer and crafter since I could utilize my digits and I honestly have no idea how to keep up with the tech of it all these days but I've been super engaged with just creating some completely random ai art to decompress. I have OCD and a drive to always WORK, I don't play app games so taking time for things like this is super fun and relaxing and also important to healing, not only PTSD but my Sacral(Creative)Chakra which definitely connects its roots to my IBD Crohns & Colitis issues Anyway this was the first ai creation I made, I have no clue about the nuances of the tech but I just typed in a string of words of some of my most favorite things ... cats, c^mmabi§, candy, comedy, creativity, crystals... I would love to learn more about creating and uploading my digital art somewhere since all the flyers I spend hours working on keep getting me shadowbanned...anyway that means so much more to me when you all send me love for my flyers and memes and artwork. Thank you for allowing me to be creative and random in this space as I navigate just trying to post though all the aggro-rhythm hoops that change daily. -Angelina Rose ✌️🍃🧚‍♂️💚 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp0lO7AOvOt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
