Since my previous posts talked about elementals. I want to write an essay about them from my perspective and possible theories and headcanon I gathered so far. It might not be accurate so fill me in if you want to add or correct some of it. I love open discussion ^^

I've seen some people thought that in the early season, all elementals had not have characteristics but changed after Halilintar's incident.

Boboiboy's emotions under circumstances not only triggered the true self of available elementals, but it also awakened the other elemental powers as well(hence how the rest 4 were born) like what anon said here.

This is gonna be looooong ted talk so I have to spilt this in two parts!

What I want to talk about is how interesting their character development throughout the series. Starting with the original trio!

(That 3rd picture lasted for a few minutes... I didn't even notice their communication at first. :'()

Their development was that drastic in the youth era. The unstoppable "the fun, the serious and the tough one"(edit: more like, "The Striker, Tacklerer, and The Goal Keeper in soccer terms. Don't ask why I thought about this a lot) which sparks Boboiboy as the hero of Pulau Rintis. But, it's starting to decrease during Galaxy onwards.

I know I know they need to blend with the others as well. (They got most of the screen time in every series after all). I already talked about it here.

(People say this year indirectly the reunion of this trio I guess? Windara and Gentaraju animated arc? ...

but... aaah well... my head's spinning right now >_<)

Halilintar/Thunderstorm.

What more to say about this person? haha, I've already talked about it from anon in the first link I put on before and this one.

But still, from the very first moment he arrived till today, I am almost certain my hypothesis then and now is coming true. Being just created as "the cool, serious" side of Boboiboy, This 'talk less, do slash more' guy unknowingly becomes the tsundere eldest due to his tragic incident.

He is such a supportive person behind that murder mask. Seeing rare moments that he actually cares for others whenever he can is an absolute miracle. God, the season 2 comic and Sori continuingly showed his soft side from youth era. wtf my 12-year-old me is screaming right now! aaarghh! :3

(But that face in ep 5 when he's strangled lmaooooo X'D)

Taufan/Cyclone

One of my favorite things that I know about him is he enjoys whenever he's out. He truly loves all the thrilling fights, if not get the vibe, he instantly goes into a bad mood. Every poster I saw about him, always with his smile and never faded. That's why I was shocked when I saw his decision in Windara's arc. Finally, the man he always wanted to be, bravely giving it all in one v one fight. I'm so proud of him! T^T

His easygoing attitude reminds me of a certain hedgehog I knew hehe...both resemble the wind itself right? :] (I need to draw them in June)

Leading the Troublemaker trio is always fun to watch. And the fact that he looks at Hali as his role model is really cute! Despite him and Hali being the first two elements who had civil fights before, a bit sad these two are independent on their own from Galaxy onwards :'(

Gempa/Quake

Gempa got me confirmation that he is the leader of the elementals from the very first fight till now. I can see why he has the closest resemblance to Boboiboy himself (hence the hat position :] ).

To be fair, Gempa is the only elemental that I see no difference with Boboiboy. And with being one of the strongest elementals(with embedded two giant stone hands), he sure is a low-profile person and easily blends with other elementals. Now I know why he gets the title "Mama Gempa". He is unknowingly taking too much care of every elementals like a family ^^)' .

Even tho he's the last power to be introduced(in this trio) and sometimes people see him as a lone wolf in the group, he's natural at giving orders. The others actually listen to him and get scolded if they messed up! Like how parents do! X'D

How about the Temper Duo?

How fitting the theme song of movie 2 titled Fire and water as well? Hehe.

Being the first two powers to be fused(the coolest name, "Frostfire" :} ), these two are what most people like to call "The polar opposites". The ones that used two hoodies in the youth era(except now only Ice wears it), the ones that had back-to-back introductions (exactly after Fire arrived, water showed up in the next episode, Galaxy season 1 also showcased the exact same pattern), the only two powers survived in movie 2, and even their own original masters lived in the same planet.

I'd say if these elementals do be brothers, these two were most likely born twins. (I know I may be late to this headcanon but hey why not? :/)

Blaze

The gremlin boi who got more screentime in sori than his partner. I absolutely adore this boy in Galaxy onwards. His wild and reckless traits are always the main attraction whenever I watch his combat style. I still think since season 3 and movie 1 He should've gotten a brass knuckle type as a weapon than the fire disc. He's a close combat brawler, right?

Anyway, he might be the one who hasn't changed much since his youth until now. In fact, I'd say he is a pretty consistent character from the start. Only gets wilder and cheekier to his fellow elementals tehee~. But that's the beauty of having a friend like Blaze. If done right, Blaze could shock you with his kindness and care deeply for others. Just like how he did with Duri once he accidentally broke Duri's plant in one of Boboiboy's official posts. (Sori ep 3 and comic made my day lmao)

Ais/Ice

If I can relate to one elemental, I choose Ice. He likes to eat yet is frightened to get fat like he did in his youth era; a very sleepy person; also an introverted person but he is confident when surrounded by his closest circle. And most of my friends are usually the Blaze type. So I can understand how to handle that person ^^)'

Ehem. Ice's first tier, Air/Water, got me confused at first. Mainly how he summons his power. Somehow Ice fixed that issue. Making his right arm purely made of ice is genius. My headcanon is every weapon or power he uses comes from his right arm. His cannon comes from his right arm, the same as the bow & arrow one. Even so, many scenes contradict that(Boboiboy is an ambidextrous guy).

Can I say I'm glad from Galaxy onwards he's a bit more open than in his youth era or just me? This doesn't count during the transition mode. All I see now is that he showed more emotions than Hali. (Also whoever decided Ice's tears become snowflakes, I salute you sir)

Last but not least! The Photosynthesis duo!

(I talk about this scene before but holy shit this scene is always mesmerizing to watch)

Duri and Solar were also made me adore them if not because of season 2 & Sori. Okay, I have to confess first to avoid misconception:

I was disappointed when Duri and Solar showed up in movie 1.

My selfish youth still took some time to get used to with Fire and Water in season 3. And all I think was negative reactions when Duri and Solar showed up. That's... also the reason why I went on hiatus.

Luckily, hence the word "was" I put it there.

I'm very grateful that they reset his watch back to start, so then they can at least make a proper debut with both Duri and Solar in Galaxy series. I much prefer that method. (That last episode was truly huge, I'm shocked they went that grand)

Therefore, Sori could continue to make the audience know better about these two! Pretty creative I'd say! I can see why the last three episodes are fan favorites. Me personally love eps 5 & 6.

Duri/Thorn

The most unique symbol to draw to, Duri truly shines in galaxy 2 comic and Sori. His debut in galaxy 1--oh wait, in Eid Fitri's short video after movie 1 made me confused with Taufan at first. Even though he's got more screen time than Solar, Duri still surprised people with the recent series. Who knew his childish and clumsy features could do unverbal damage to enemies by his words? Count me in! He might not do that to his friends and families, but he will delightedly do so with Solar :D

And thanks to Sori, I can now differentiate between Taufan and Duri more clearly. His design in Sori especially the last three is my fav. I love what Monsta did the effects on his arms. Since he doesn't has a signature weapon, they create a 2D flash-winded green leaf around his arm like a coil. That is a very cute detail for Duri.

A bit surprised when every elemental went to serious mode in Windara's arc, only Duri still managed to find fun in the battle. Heck even Taufan dropped his smile during that.

Solar

Being the trump card of the group, I can see why he is the last elemental to be introduced, both in movie 1 and galaxy series. The hardest one to obtain his 2nd tier that requires proper research and pure luck, Solar's traits are also what makes him interesting. To be honest I didn't expect his characteristic to be like this, at all. And somehow very matched with his design and attack as well. Every aspect is strangely in synch I'm astonished. (Adding a visor to his 2nd tier is uhh *chef's kiss B=) )

Also, I love that his attacks use his finger that's also kinda easter egg of the famous "Ray Gun!" shot attack from Yu Yu Hakusho(look it up, there's a live-action ver if you want to know the short ver of the series. The anime itself is legendary to all weebs out there).

Regardless of his limited screentime in every series. I'm very much grateful Monsta treats him equally. His timing in Sori is exceptional and his popularization bursting successfully. My only hope he didn't get cut in Windara and let all elementals showed up. When was the last time Boboiboy did that without splitting to 7?....

... Well if you count heptasplit part, the last time he did that was in Movie 1. That's 9 years ago.

I forget I can just ramble and rant my thoughts!

I try to focus on sharing just my art but I also do writing and try to have a bit of a critical mind when it comes to media I consume.

Now that it has been a few months since I watched all of TMNT 12 I do have some thoughts and opinions and kind of want to just ramble about it before I forget, in an informal manner.

I at first really liked it, it was the second TMNT show I watched after Rise, now that I've been watching the 87 and 03 shows my opinions on 12 did change just a bit but I still do like it!

Literally all the turtles are my son's now. Especially Leonardo (he's blue coded so-). I just think they're so cute and neat!!!

I'm going to put thoughts to spoiler stuff of 12 so if you plan to watch the show then don't click beyond this point!

So in the last season of TMNT 12 it kind of feels like all the scrapped ideas or random plots that couldn't be fit into the prior seasons were put in this one? I really like the new op it gives of Cowboy Bebop vibes. The op song change is really nice to because I never really looked the tmnt 12 op song before.

However, the plots feel all over the place? There's a mini ark where they're jumping through time meeting Halloween monsters and then another ark where Mikey defeats Satan? Then we get another really tiring ark that's this implied alternate madmax fury road parody that is honestly so depressing? Donnie is just dead.

Which btw, the show likes killing ppl off for dramatic effect. They killed Master Splinter three times and had Mikey and Donnie get scattered to atoms on two separate occasions. I should also mention Leo was in a coma for 3 months with no IV or anything and he woke up relatively fine.

Anyways, going into the last season and stuff leading up to it... They kind of ended with the 87 turtles and the 12 boys finding new passion and inspiration from teaching the 87 boys. I didn't really vibe with it because it just made the 87s the butt of the joke and made them out to be incompetent silly little guys.

They ARE silly little guys but the thing is they're not incompetent. The 87 boys have done some insanely incredible things even when unarmed. Especially when unarmed. I actually think the angle of finding a new way to help people as a means to end the series on an inspired note is fine, the 87 boys even carried on the will and told Bebop and Rocksteady they can be more than Shredder's mutant henchmen. It is very cute and wholesome. I just think they could have maybe done it differently?

Why not set up for them to teach Chi arts? The turtles of 87 don't have any mystical abilities and it would have been interesting to do a set up like that? There are ways to write the finale without just dumping on the original source.

Focusing back on the ending of 12, we also leave on a seriously alarming note. It's just a big mixed bag. After Master Splinter went to run on the hamster wheel in the sky, Leonardo was handed the reigns of the family. He was told "You're the teacher now Leonardo. You're the father. Look after your brothers" and Splinter then willingly walked into his own death. I think the writers maybe thought this was amazing and inspirational or something but I found it incredibly messed up? We start tmnt 12 on all 4 boys birthday. Meaning Splinter himself considers them all to be the same age. And since the series was running they haven't on screen celebrated a birthday and from the implied weather changes most of the seasons 1-4 seem to take place over just a year??? We don't get a definitive timeline (or I'm a bad audience and didn't notice).

So one can only assume Master Splinter was telling his...15 year old son to be the father to his other 15 year old children.

Why do I bring this up at all? After Leonardo takes over the family and he KILLS shredder they go into this rushed cult demon resurrection arc that culminates in the classic dead walk the earth and Mikey defeats Satan. In this arc we meet a ghost splinter who does not even go to see his kids, he just helps Casey and April. But throughout and the lead up to this we have moments of Leo having conversations with what we can perceive as Sensei's ghost in the dojo.

But the climax of the arc cements splinters ghost has not once visited his son's.

So Leonardo is quite literally having full on conversations, in the dojo for his brothers to hear, with a hallucination of his dead dad. He's coping this way. His family does nothing about this.

Tmnt 2012 has the worst Splinter. He ignored his son's and chose favorites. He told Leonardo to die (season 1 finale). He calls Mikey dumb and insights the others to do it too. He told Raph his anger makes him exactly like Shredder and never elaborates or teaches him how to better work through his issues. And he straight up calls Donnie useless.

None of that is even an exaggeration. Adding context just makes it worse.

Here's a list:

Do you know the turtles are the equivalent of helicopter raised homeschool boys? They've never stepped foot outside of the lair except at the start of ep 1.

They learn ALL of their lessons from old shows and cartoons. The show writers even sometimes use the cartoons to set up the theme of the episodes!

When Leonardo rescues Mikey he pats him on the head to comfort him.

Literally almost all of their ninja weapons have hidden weapons. I love it I wish I saw more of them using them.

Michelangelo is the family chef because somehow none of the rest have any life skills. Not even Splinter (explains so much).

They all have such cute shape language. I love bean pole Donnie, blocky buff Raph, perfect pear Leo, and round freckled Mikey.

They also now have unique eye colors. I love their eyes. Donnie with his big beautiful brown eyes (sometimes they look red). Raph with his acid green stare into your soul eyes, they look like they would glow like mako eyes in ff7. Mikey with bright blue eyes all big and round. And then Leo with the cunning dark blue eyes!

I just want to pinch their cheeks and kiss their foreheads and give them hugs.

Also, Leo is so affectionate to kids and his brothers??? My heart??? Couldn't take it??? He just randomly hugs them?? He had a tea party??? He wore a pink feather boa? The way he just immediately held baby Miwa??? Too good. Too good. He's such a good big bro.

Raph is also such a soft guy. Like yes he's a Butthead that beats up his brothers and takes every single violent urge out on Leo when he's even minorly inconvenienced but he does learn to do better. He helps Leo a lot and he even is there for the others a lot too.

Raphael also does art and seems to like fine arts.

Raph, like Leo, is a resident baby man. He loved tiny helpless creatures. He had a pet turtle he loved with his entire being and then later on adopted a space alien baby turtle that he also loved with his entire being.

I love Donnie in this, his cute little tooth gap, his gentle demeanor, the fact he'd rather be in the lab than training. I feel bad for him tho cause he clearly wants Splinter and Leo's approval with his inventions and efforts but very rarely gets it (Leo is the only one to really praise him and get what he does). He's also a good team player but he has so much stress and no confidence.

Donnie needs a big ol hug.

Mikey is so cute. But he is so weird. Why did they write girly pop collecting underwear. Why did they have him cannibalize a mutant pizza man? They do the most random things with Mikey. I like that he avidly tries cheering ppl up. He tries so hard for his bros. He's just a sweet little guy. I wish they did more with the baby bro.

Mikey should have kept his lightning powers.

They fight a lot but all the brothers love each other. I think they're just stressed and cooped up too much.

I like drama tho it's juicy when they argue.

I read on the wiki that Donnie is supposed to be canon OCD and Mikey canon ADHD and it makes so much sense in the show.

I really like all their voices. I miss Leo's first voice he was so dorky and sweet. The new voice is all sad and serious. Raph sounds perfect. I like Donnie's voice but instead of him always yelling why not have him do the low angry science rant because that's a good time. I like Mikey's voice he sounds like a high pitched beast boy.

But despite the occasionally baffling writing choices of the show I still like it. It's entertaining in the same way as a telenovela or kdrama. They literally have a plot where one of the turtles falls in love with his secret half sister. Something I've seen in telenovelas and kdramas.

2012 tmnt makes a great dogblooded drama.

I think the CGI art can get pretty bad at times but other times it looks great. The music is pretty good and I really like the voice cast. I actually totally see why so many people like this show but I definitely don't think it's the best one. From what I've seen thus far, I think the 2003 TMNT show might actually be a masterpiece. Better than Avatar the Last Airbender levels of masterpiece (not a competition just giving an example of another show I find monumental).

Aw that's so sweet of you! A longtime viewer! (Viewer? What am I, a YouTuber? Calm down.) It's sweet of you to remember me and I'm delighted that I am apparently famous and evidently famous for making long/extensive posts lol. Which I'm about to do again.

I talked about Strome, Milano, Sandin, and alllll those young guys on my last post, as well as Darcy and TvR. [And Dowd but you already knew him.] The rest of the guys currently on the team I haven't really touched on yet that joined post-Holtby era are Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Anthony Mantha, and Charlie Lindgren. I'll get into them in a bit, but I gotta get into some other things first.

You said you haven't really watched since the Holtby era, so I'm going to assume you know everything that happened/all the people we had up til that final season, and that you know little/nothing of what has happened since then. So I'm gonna give a quick recap of some of the big things that have happened in that time:

You missed the ENTIRETY of the Sammy and Vitek goaltending era, which was kinda turbulent. Sammy was gonna be the starter with Henrik Lundqvist as the backup, but then it turned out Lundqvist had a heart condition and had to retire and never played a game for the Caps. This forced Vitek into action, and we had 2 years of the Sammy and Vitek goaltending duo. I, personally, loved it. Some people did not. I still hold that they were BOTH GOOD!! They split time, neither one ever TRULY grasped the starting reigns. There was also when Vitek got taken by the Kraken in the expansion draft and then immediately traded him back to us. Also they were besties, which started when they were a duo down in Hershey. It's also why my blog is titled "goalie best friend tandem," though it also currently applies to Darcy and Chuck who are besties. You can search the "goalie best friends" tag on my blog for cute Sammy and Vitek content. Neither of them are here anymore, but they're still friends - I remember seeing a quote Vitek gave to some Devils people talking about him and about still being friends and such.

Players you knew back from the Holtby era who are no longer with us: Lars Eller, Richard Panik (useless), Jonas Siegenthaler, Travis Boyd, Christian Djoos, Michal Kempny, Radko Gudas, Garnet Hathaway, Dmitry Orlov [don't talk to me about these last two I'm sad]

Players that played with us for multiple seasons after the Holtby era who are no longer with us this year: Justin Schultz, Conor Sheary, Daniel Sprong, Matt Irwin

COVID robbed us of our time with Brenden Dillon and I'm sad about it

We had Zdeno Chara for 1 year, and he straightup fixed Nick Jensen. Jensen was abysmal before that, then Chara was his defense partner for the whole year, and Jensen is good now. I no longer dread every time he touches the puck, I trust him. Also he has a personality now! Idk what kind of dark magic Chara used, but I will be forever thankful to him for it. 1 year of Chara absolutely 1000% worth it just for fixing Nick Jensen

We got Marcus Johansson back! :) And then we traded him again

We traded Jakub Vrana for Anthony Mantha, who is useless and unfortunately still here. He never fit in with the team vibe of "sexy idiots," he's not loud enough or slutty enough.

In March 2022 Carl Hagelin suffered a really bad eye injury during practice. I think the butt end of someone's stick got into his eye? (We were never told whose stick it was, I'm sure they have to feel absolutely terrible about it.) He's lucky he didn't lose his eye. He tried to come back, but he never played a game again after that. He was technically on the roster all of last season, but he never got into any games, and he just announced his retirement this summer. A really sad end, tbh. And RIP to the 4th line of dreams.

We were GONNA have Connor Brown for the 2022-23 season, and he was gonna play with Dylan Strome whom he's friends with and played in juniors with. But he played for like 2 games and then got hurt and was out for the season and never played for us again. I think he's in Edmonton now.

You know about goal songs, right?? I think the last year of Holtby was the first year of goal songs. I have a Spotify playlist of goal songs if you wanna check it out

There have been SO many injuries the last 3 years. 2021-22 was what I like to call the year of babies. I don't even remember who exactly was injured but there were so many injuries it necessitated the callup of SO many rookies. TWELVE rookies played that season: Martin Fehervary, Connor McMichael, Beck Malenstyn, Garrett Pilon, Hendrix Lapierre, Brett Leason, Aliaksei Protas, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Zach Fucale, Joe Snively, Alex Alexeyev, and Lucas Johansen. All of whom made their NHL debuts that season except for Fehervary, McMichael, Malenstyn, and Pilon. Of those rookies, Fehervary and McMichael were the only ones who were really supposed to make the team that season; they stuck around the whole season, while Leason and Protas played 30+ games, AJF played 20+, Snively and Malenstyn played more than 10 each, and the rest had 6 or less. It was truly the year of babies. Some of those guys aren't in the organization anymore, but I think this is the year the rest of them finally make the leap and are true full-timers. [Except for Fehervary, who already is]

More injury news: Nicky and Tom were injured for like the first half of last season. And in December, John Carlson broke his fucking face. He got hit in the face with a puck and it broke his entire face, like it was really bad, and he hardly played again. I think he came back for like the last few weeks, but tbh his injury was when the season went downhill. [I say "broke his face" but the official reports are he had a fractured skull and severed temporal artery. Yikes! He's fine now though]

Ovi just keeps breaking goal records. He got 800 goals and then passed Gordie Howe last season!!! He is now number 2 all-time in goals!! He currently has 822. Watch out, Gretzky, he's comin' for ya

Oh yeah the Hershey Bears won the Calder Cup this year!! It was absolutely epic. They played the Coachella Valley Firebirds (Kraken AHL team) in the finals, and it was an awesome finals. It went to Game 7 overtime. GAME SEVEN OVERTIME!!!!! Do you know how rare that is? It's only the 2nd time the Calder Cup Finals has gone to overtime in Game 7, with the first time being in 1953. In the NHL, it has only ever happened in the Stanley Cup Finals TWICE. EVER! By the Wings in 1950 and 1954. So the Bears won the Calder Cup in Game 7 overtime and it was exciting as FUCK. And a lot of guys who might make the Caps roster this year were on that Cup-winning team: Snively, Protas, McMichael, Malenstyn, Johansen, as well as top prospects Lapierre and Iorio. They're the oldest franchise in the AHL, and that was their 12th Calder Cup, which is the most in AHL history.

I fucking love Darcy, so much. I've already said that I've liked him for a long time, and I'm absolutely elated to have him on the team. He won the Cup with the Avs in 2022. He is also very tall, he's 6'5", one time he hugged TJ and it made TJ look like a child. He's so sweet, and he's so dumb. He's like a giant labrador. Some of my favorite assorted Darcy things and moments include:

In one of his first interviews after signing he said he was gonna visit every museum in DC, and I'm like no you're not, Darcy, that's not possible. Our first sign that he was a big dummy

One time suplexed Matthew Tkachuk into the ice

Got a shot on goal during a game last year

The time he tried to "interview" Nick Jensen at the outdoor game practice while giggling incessantly

Is absolute BESTIES with Charlie Lindgren, the backup goalie. Like, so much so that they and their wives constantly take their dogs on walks together, the dogs are reportedly besties as well, and the Kuempers dog-sat Chuck's dog over Christmas. They also kind of have matching dogs, I'll include a picture below. Chuck also called himself and Darcy two of the "more normal goalies in the league" which is an absolute lie after the dinosaurs thing, so clearly Chuck doesn't have that many brain cells rolling around up there either. And then TvR 🥰 Mine own love TvR. I adore Trevor van Riemsdyk so much. He's just got incredibly good vibes. I also have a bit more of a personal attachment to him, because he and I have the same birthday (July 24). He's a bit soft-spoken, especially compared to some of the other freaks on this team. Possibly one of the only ones with any semblance of a brain cell. He's not flashy; he's a steady-eddy defenseman, almost always on the third pair barring injuries. He's not gonna score a bunch of points, but he plays hard defensively every game (one of the reasons goalies love him), he's reliable, and he blocks SO many shots. He's also one of THE guys on the penalty kill. The penalty kill is TvR, Jensen, Fehervary, and Dowd, those are the main guys. We also officially claimed him as our own. As of this year, he will have played more years with the Caps than with anyone else, he currently has more goals, assists, and points with us than with anyone else, and after about 40 more games he will have played more games with us than with anyone else.

Also the ENTIRE team is absolutely fucking OBSESSED with him. There aren't like that many big specific things I can point to, it's just how I've noticed them treating him over the years, and how they talk about/to him and the general energy. They all love to shout "REEEEEEEEEEEEMERRRRRRRR" at any and every opportunity. And like you can just tell that every single one of them is deeply in love with him. They are all constantly tripping over themselves to give him the player of the game award in the locker room, even when other guys have a bunch of points in the game and it feels like they're the obvious choice but no they all want to give a love letter to their collective crush. The goalies especially love him. (Here's Chuck giving him the POTG, Nicky giving him the POTG, and a recounting of Sammy's love affair with him two seasons ago). The coaches also love him, sometimes too much for their own good - there have been times in the last few years when they've put TvR on the power play and in the shootout (??) when he had no business being there lol. And like I don't blame them lmao. He's grown to become a leader on the team (and occasionally gets As on his chest during preseason games and when a bunch of dudes are injured - another thing that confirms to me they're all in love with him, he got real high up on the chain of command real quick), he's super consistent (there was one game last year when there were so many injuries on D that the defense was quite literally just TvR plus a bunch of rookies - I said that day that the defense was "TvR and a dream"), and he will absolutely never put his mouthguard in his mouth. So as the year goes on, and as you watch games and social media content, just keep your eyes peeled, watch TvR, and you'll see that the entire team is so fucking horny for TvR specifically. I made this meme awhile back, which is exactly how the Caps feel about TvR:

Our backup goalie is Charlie Lindgren, but we all call him Chuck. It suits him better, especially with his mustache. He also catches right-handed, which is different than practically every other goalie in the league. So like if you look, he and Darcy wear their catching gloves on different hands.

There are a LOT of NHL brothers on this team. Dylan Strome's older brother Ryan plays for the Ducks, and his younger brother Matt actually plays for the Hershey Bears. Trevor van Riemsdyk is also the middle child of three hockey-playing brothers: his older brother James plays for the Bruins, and younger brother Brendan doesn't play in the NHL but played college hockey. And Charlie Lindgren is the oldest of 3 hockey brothers: Andrew played college hockey but never made the NHL, and youngest brother Ryan plays for the Rangers.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel (NAK), a French-Canadian fourth line winger that the Caps picked up on waivers in November last year, is Sergei Ovechkin's (Ovi's son) favorite player. We learn this in a video feature with Ovi's wife and kids (I'm including the link to this gifset from the lovely @thornescratch which is where I first saw this). The producer asks who Sergei's favorite player is, and Sergei immediately answers "Aube-Kubel." Not only is Aube-Kubel his "guy" according to Nastya, but then we also see that a selfie of Sergei and Aube-Kubel is the lock screen of Sergei's iPad. And Sergei calls Aube-Kubel his "best friend." Learning this information is such a curveball, because it's like the last person you'd expect Sergei's favorite to be. It's not somebody Russian or even European, it's not somebody old or someone who's been on the team a long time, it's not one of his dad's closer friends, and it's not even one of the stars of the team, it's a young Canadian dude who plays fourth line if he's in. Aube-Kubel must be REALLY friendly, otherwise why else would he be Sergei's favorite? You know it has to be absolutely devastating to Tom Wilson to not be Sergei's favorite lol. [I'm also convinced this is why they re-signed NAK so quick in the offseason, you HAVE to bring back Sergei's favorite player!!]

Speaking of NAK: remember how I said Beck Malenstyn was Nic Dowd's chosen winger? NAK is his OTHER chosen winger. Those two are twin shitstarters and Dowd loves them and I know he absolutely wants both of them on his line this season. They're gonna be a great 4th line. I could talk all day about Dowd and his 4th line duties, and you can ask me to do that if you want but I'm not gonna do it here

S2E07 in the eyes of a Happy x Garbage shipper:

I've shipped this since season one so it was fun to write this. Also this has spoilers so go watch the new season first. This is not some polished analysis meant to be critiqued, this is just me having fun writing about one of my fave episodes and ships. I'm too tired to edit this again so please ignore any typos.

For this I'm gonna start with mentioning how sweet past Garbage and Happy's interactions have been in the flashbacks before the friendship starts to crumble. The animators made it so clear how close they are with Happy always reaching to touch Garbage whether just to be close to him or to reassure him and him calling Garbage 'Garb', whether that is to shorten it or to avoid pushing negative connotations on his friend is up to interpretation. Happy even opens up to the corgi about his owner and the bell training he will always have to live with. Garbage is so sweet in return, reaching for Happy just as much as the poodle does for him, helping him up after a bell rings, and asking Happy to teach him to tango as a way to put a positive spin on the bell training (which is the sweetest thing but also the gayest thing.)

In the PRATS break room after Happy accidentally embarrassed Garbage by telling the other future captains about the corgi's low scores, Garbage and Happy almost look longingly at each other. This is the scene that really first stood out to me as romantic or romantic adjacent (I’m not sure what to call pining.) It could really just be just both dogs feeling bad about their past interaction but… meeting each other's gaze across a room while soft, sad music plays in the background? Sounds hella gay to me -‘that moment when you accidentally hurt your crush and best friend’ kind of vibes.

Later Happy finds Garbage sitting on the floor in the hallway and they have this sad moment with Garbage refusing to look at him until Garbage stands up. What I really like about this scene is not the way the shadows on the two are done or how Garbage moving to one side of the hallway could represent the distance growing between them, it's not even Happy's animation though all three are so amazing to me. It's when Garbage asks Happy to train him, Happy is reluctant to agree but gives in any way due to love for his friend and a little, hopefully unintentional, manipulation from Garbage. To me that feels like someone helping out their crush even if it could backfire on them. Garbage is so happy by his agreement that he actually presses close to Happy and it's the cutest thing. I think it's the closest the two get to each other in this episode.

After we get to see how Happy and Garbage’s friendship ended, we’re back in the present where the group now has to fight the ice aliens. Here we get to see Happy and Garbage fighting together. I really enjoyed seeing Garbage step in to cover Happy’s ears so the poodle could fight. It was such a cool scene, getting to see the two work as a team made me really happy. The smile Garbage has and the small nod Happy gives to him really makes the scene complete and helps transition to the next.

As they're getting ready to leave the planet, Happy and Garbage finally reconcile. They shake paws and do a little flirting. One could say it’s banter but it felt like flirting to me -it had a bit of a "Did you jump into fire for me?" kind of tone if you will. Stella literally had to shout at them to get them to stop or they would've probably kept going. Now, I'm gonna just say… if the animators didn't want this to come off romantic (assuming I'm just getting gay vibes from nothing), why did they make Happy and Garbage do the 'look at the other and then look away when the other looks back' trope? Garbage catches Happy towards the end of his look and smiles one of his softer smiles. It just feels too on the nose for it not to be romantic or possibly hint towards past (or future) romantic feelings. The looks feel too longing and sad like they're only now realizing what they've missed out on.

This episode was everything I ever wanted for a Happy and Garbage reconciliation. If we get another season, I hope we get more scenes with these two whether its romantic or not. They’re my favorite characters.

Gushing over Magical Girls Ep13 (Finale)

surprisingly the best looking showed out of the 3 ecchi ones I watched this season, despite being the lewdest by far but anyway it was alright. the only thing I knew about it going in was that it was about magical girls and lewd. turns out it's just the author's thinly veiled fetishes totally out in the open with a thin coat of magical girl on top to have an excuse to do stuff like MOTW there's not much else to say about it really, everything that happens including plot developments are just an excuse for more and lewder scenes. not sure about reading the manga anymore after having watched it but I'll probably watch a s2 if it ever gets one

Mashle S2 Ep12 (Finale)

there's not much to say really. I had hope it'd be better than s1 and while it was due to the source material being better it still wasn't that much. was hoping for a lot more sakuga cause of one of the pvs they showed but there was barely any. even the best fight in the series which I had my hopes up for only had 1 cool moment and the rest was just the usual quality. which mind you, isn't bad at all, but still not as good as it could be. out of all the things that aired this season too I expected this to get another season announced since they can finish adapting the manga with just 2 more cours (3 at most) but they haven't yet. they announced an event in may so if there's a s3 announcement it'll be there but don't hold your breath I guess

tl;dr: everything I said about s1 applies here. you're better off reading the manga instead since the anime doesn't really get the vibes right

Pokemon Horizons Ep45

this episode marked the end of the second arc and the first year of the anime (basically). next episode we start a more scarvi focused art with the main characters going to the school from the game and a ton of npcs showing up or making a return (rika and nemona 🙏)

but anyway this arc was just alright. it was all about searching and getting the six hero pokemon but there were more random eps about other stuff than that. we also have the explorers who are supposed to be the antagonists and they barely showed up despite them revealing the designs for a bunch of them. two of them are gonna be a part of the school art so maybe they'll have a bigger part in the story but I doubt it. they'll prob just be there to give the mcs a hard time and be comedic relief like team rocket.

anyway, considering how it's gone I don't have very high hopes for this next arc BUT I'm stoked to see rika and nemona, they're some of the best things to come out of those games by far

today marked the last chap of ruri on WSJ, going forward it'll be on jump+ and run biweekly, tho the next chap will be on the 21st so I guess it's taking a week off. kinda weird to make the transition on an incomplete part like, could've very easily done it on last week's chap it felt like a more natural stopping point, but oh well. obviously tho she's gonna join that committee thing and the other girl that doesn't like her is gonna be a part of it too and they'll make up and become friends too anyway it was nice having ruri back, it's still as good as before it left. it's a shame that it's going biweekly but hey, the author's health is more important

Favorite color: Yellow, but not an overwhelming yellow, like that soft warm yellow? I love it. People tend to not expect this answer, I think I give off more of a blue or grey vibe. Honestly a pretty grey/silver is probably my second favorite color, but a buttery yellow is just so good for the soul.

Last song: You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi. Danced to it in the kitchen, got consumed by the guitar riffs, nearly knocked a chair over. Before this morning it would've been the Genshin OST... I've been listening to it a lot while I write or do chores recently.

Last movie: An exceedingly mediocre romcom on Netflix that I watched with my sick mom to be nice. Genuinely couldn't tell you the title or more than like, two or three plot points. Last movie that I watched bc I wanted to was the Barbie movie, which was genuinely better than I expected. Enjoyable but would still give it, like, a mixed review. Currently watching: I'M STILL TRYING TO FINISH THE UNTAMED!!!! woobifiedvillain i'm speaking directly to you and quoting you: i too am "chronically incapable of paying attention to visual media, even the good shit" and when i try to explain this to people irl they act like i am insane!!! I haven't watched Good Omens season 2 yet even tho I am reblogging posts about it rn. I think it's mostly adhd, or really just a part of the larger Neurodivergence Soup (tm) that makes it nearly impossible for me to learn something from a YouTube video. I mean, sometimes for a hands-on task a video is essential, but can't there be a written list of instructions to go with it too, bc that sticks in my mind way better sobs... ANYWAY i'm currently on episode 43 of The Untamed, so I should be able to finish it by, like. The end of the year at least lol?

Currently reading: I started reading SVSSS recently because, like. The mxtx mania is in full throttle. I just got here a little later than most people lmao. I'm also currently "reading" like seven different books that I bought or pirated this year and have on hold. One of my Unfortunate Skills is bingereading like 200 pages of something in 1-2 days and then not finishing the rest of it for 8 months.

Currently working on: Keep My Shadow Alive, my big xue yang-centric fix it fic!!! Well, more like a fix it, and then break it more, and then eventually actually fix it fic. Starting from the canon divergence of "Add Pre-Teen Xue Yang to the Burial Mounds Fam" and going from there. I read every fic like that that's on ao3 and was still being eaten alive by the brainworms so I started writing my own take on it and ~6 months later it's the longest fic I've ever written and only 25% of the way through its outline???? So. Who knows if it will get finished (my track record is admittedly not great)- but I've had such a blast writing it so far. Xue Yang is just SO fun to write. Yes it has a plot and character arcs and I could even go full English Major* and start telling you about its Themes, but also it's just an excuse to write Xue Yang interacting with every member of the MDZS cast. Going to STOP talking now bc I fully am the type of writer who will get carried away talking about their wips.

*i am not an english major, but spiritually i am an english major.

Current obsession: Yeah uh, MDZS. My friend convinced me to finally read it in January of this year, and the hyperfixation train has simply not stopped since then. Genshin Impact also dragged me back in with the Fontaine update and I've been having a lot of fun playing it. But MDZS is still mostly the thing that's eating up my RAM. Particularly the Yi City crew, but 3zun is rotating in there too. Sometimes even The Man WWX Himself, i talk about him less but i do love him a lot also lol

I. favourite colours: Red, purple or black. Especially when combined together in a gothic style. So specifically deep reds and plum purples, not so much the emo style of bright red and bright purples with black. Think regal vampire's castle.

II. favourite flavours: Barbecue seasonings, char on meat (steak or chicken wings especially), apple sweets, pineapple sweets, watermelon in any form and a nice warm spiced rum.

III. favourite genres: Fantasy and sci-fi that have deep world-building elements, found family stories in whatever form they take, horror, psychology and if any of these come with a touch of comedy then even better but I rarely enjoy pure comedy driven narratives.

IV. favourite music: I'm a bit polyjamorous, listening to whatever vibes with me at any given time but recently I've been listening to a lot of alt, folk, rock and indie. Think Will Wood and The Tapeworms, Neil Cicierega/Lemon Demon, Ashnikko - if it sounds a little unhinged then it probably scratches my brain just right.

V. favourite movies: Spirited Away, Van Helsing, Brothers Grimm, Dragonheart, Borrowers, Pans Labyrinth, Wolf Children, The Lost Boys, Tremors, Hellboy/Hellboy 2 - Fun fact, Hellboy 2 had a big influence on the writing of my Fae characters and their worldbuilding.

It was fine, for an ad. By their own admission Mattel has been struggling as a business, so this- along with the theme park they're building- is to create a "Universe" rather than just physical dolls. The in-movie criticism of Mattel doing things for money doesn't it not true. Look at the sheer volume of collabs, commericals, etc that's happening.

(Same with the "if you want to make this point about not being pretty don't hire Margot Robbie!". Like, cute 🙄. You still did though.)

And as a dyke I was irritated by the treatment of 'weird Barbie'. I had bad vibes from the trailer where Kate offered the Birkenstocks as "truth" and the heels as "ignorance". And the other Barbies calling her "broken" bc she "got played with too hard".... making her only role in Dreamland to "fix" other Barbies while being sooo scary..... ew.

Which leads me to something that really irritates me: people calling this movie "queer"! No! Obviously Weird Barbie (played by a lesbian, and since it relies so heavily on star power/meta it's pretty clear what they were doing) treated poorly, and then Alan.. well. I know some Twitter Gays/Bi love to be "ooh I'm so pathetic and scared 🥺" so great rep for them, but the Kens dance being "homoerotic" after immediately following his rampant misogyny, creepiness/sexualization of Barbie, etc is not, in my opinion, good!

The second half overall was just bad. Ferrera's speech was basic (we've been saying that for 40 years. Happy for you if it you took something from it but did nothing for me). Hated the "Girlbossing through playing a bimbo honeypot" 🙄. Sarcastically grateful that Ken thought the patriarchy was horses otherwise he might have put up a fight! And don't even.. listen I was ready for Barbie not to be Confirmed trans/ace/aro, okay I'm not an idiot, put the final moment being a bait and switch- "is she going to a job interview? NO big bright smile for the gynecologist!" made me so angry. They really said "human womanhood is defined by a pussy 🙂 Please still be pretty, hairless, and happy 🙂". Are you kidding me? #feminism ????

A much better film about womanhood, growing up, and mother-daughter relationships and frankly, queer rep, is Steel Magnolias (1989). Hooo boy. Actually cried. Without spoiling it bc you should watch it, the characters actually had personalities, and conflict, and it felt like you could (and would want to) walk right into Truvy's beauty shop and be part of something. Ouiser was my favorite of course.

So uh This post is gonna be a but long cause I'm gonna be putting my two cents on the latest Helluva Boss episode [Season 2 Episode 4 Western Energy] yes there will be spoilers

I may some things that you will like I may some things you might hate I don't really care because this is JUST MY OPINION on the episode and what I THOUGHT ABOUT IT. Feel free to put your thoughts too if you like but let's do this

So when I watched this episode I actually saw a 2 photos on Twitter and it kind of hyped me up because I saw Striker was making a comeback but when I finished it I was to say a little disappointed. The episode was not as bad like 'I'm gonna not watch it anymore' it was more of bland to me

Spoilers for the episode as a basic summary of it basically Stolas finally got jacked by Striker to be tortured and killed as ordered by Stella; Blitzo can't come to the rescue due to Luna needing a shot so M&M take to the streets to find Stolas and get him back. The episode ends with Blitzo figuring out that Stolas can be hurt, Stolas losing more confidence in their relationship, and some questions on where striker went

The animation for the episode was great, it was the writing and pacing of the episode that bothered me more of like they tried to put the le haha funny plot in with the serious tone of the first plot

The episode started at the richest cup cafe where Stolas, Stella and Andrealphus go to discuss the terms of their divorce and after a bit of bickering from Stolas and Stella;

Striker comes into the store and using some kind of angelic rope captures Stolas and starts breaking it for his hideout, on their way Stolas calls Blitzo to tell him the situation Striker tells him he's good and this is where I started to have a problem with this episode

They put this episode as a Plot A and Plot B (A Plot is stolas being jacked and B Plot is Luna getting a shot) Now the thing that ruins the writing of the episode is that they just reintroduced Striker

Striker is a very different and very threatening villain in this show, in his first debut he was put on a hit to kill Stolas at the Harvest Moon Festival and had Moxxie not been in the house at the time yeah he would've gotten away with it

Not only did he over power M&M he over powered Blitzo too

He was the first imp we have seen that owns And can apparently get blessed or angelic weapons and was the first person Stella hired to kill Stolas based on these clues we can concluded that Striker has killed many royals before. He's hot he's very convincing and he knows it HE really is a main threat to the imps and Stolas aside from Stella

But knowing this they way they went about his comeback made it seem like "yeah he's a threat but look at all these funny lines and whatnot" and I'm not talking about when he's torturing Stolas and Stolas making quirky comebacks I'm talking about his fight scene

His fight with M&M was the best fucking thing I've seen since the scene where they fight the D.O.R.K.S. it was so smooth it was edge putting heck it even had Moxxie not being scared or jumbled instead using humor to cope

But it was always interrupted by scenes of Blitzo and the Doc chasing after Luna to give her a shot...

Like seriously outta place for a badass scene like this The Villian fighting against a more upgraded and less clumsy M&M who nearly Like I mean by a inch get out alive just by main character plot armor Millie literally almost gets her head chopped and Moxxie once again almost got choked out if it wasn't for Striker being thrown off by Moxxies comment and Millie using the statue after getting out of her axe Striker would have definitely won and probably took like one of Stolas limbs or something

But through the middle of it you get these pink pastel kind of le haha funny simmer down the tension scenes where it's not needed at all It ruins the vibes of the fight scene it was trying to give

Don't get me wrong this was a cute moment to see Luna not treat blitzo like shit and him being soft and kind to her but I feel like the return of Striker deserved more of a serious "oh shit even as they evolve he's still a huge ass threat to have around" episode like the DORKS epi where it was more focused on Mox and Blitz being jacked and only for a brief moment going back to Millie and Luna getting closer to finding the boys

I will give credit where credit is due though the ending was loafly Blitzo thinking everything was honky dory just like every other time he's saved Stolas only to see that it's stolas getting dragged into the hospital

We already know it's bad because we've kinda seen what Striker did but to see Millie of all people looking at Stolas body like that shows that they haven't seen anything this brutal and the person still be alive not just that but It he seems close to all of them as friends so her face says it all

And then m&m breaking the situation to Blitzo for him to realize that Striker actually fucked up Stolas bad and he can actually be hurt

That was a reality check for him that YEAH He can lose Stolas, he isn't this untouchable higher being like he thought he was and even though he was hit with this reality check he still is too fucking stubborn to go to Stolas but that's just how he is

And the end cap is Stolas remembering what Striker said that "no one was coming" that he's relationship with Blitzo is not good and his confidence in trying to fix his relationship with Blitzo is so shit rn that ending was perfect it was great

Like I said before this episode was kinda bland and not due to the animation or the voice actors who did fucking amazing I wanna say it was the direction and writing that kinda set it off a little made it like exaggerated and too weird for people to focus on

Like we have to be concerned for Stolas and M&M wondering oh shit are they gonna die just to be cut back to Hey look at how Luna acts like a dog and goes CraZy cause she's get a shot or haha look at the doc how he thought this was gonna be easy when or emotions or still on the A plot

That's why people didn't really like this episode that much the tone shift to what we were supposed to feel shifted so much it made the episode look like it was trying to hard to not be serious and show that hey we can make jokes look

I feel like the B plot should've finished at Blitzo threatening to kill the racist lady and then the next time we saw em should've been at the end it would've made the whole middle part good and seeing Blitzo smiling and walking out with Luna like he had a great time even more heartbreaking

I'm not sure if anything is happening with the writing team [based on some instagram and Twitter posts about how Vivienne isn't paying the writers and animators enough for what they putting down] or if someone else took the lead for this specific episode but yeah that what just my take on this epi and why I don't like it that much

Now let me say something else Specifically about Vivienne because I can't get into a tweet without seeing this shit like this flying all over the comments people are convinced that Viv isn't paying animators, va's,and basically anyone that works with her the amount that they should be paid which based on what some people who worked with her have said is false, like I've seen at least two people who've worked with her say that it's a load of bull and people shouldn't jump to conclusions for things they don't know so I don't think that's the issue here

Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor (2022 Halloween Special)

Well, that's the end of the Thirteenth Doctor. Does anyone else feel like she still never quite hit her stride?

Cons:

Dan ended up being one of the most useless companions in Doctor Who history! I found him so charming and interesting to start, he had so much potential, but pretty much all his adventuring with the Doctor happened offscreen. We never got to establish a relationship between him and the Doctor properly.

And that's just generally true of so much of this Doctor's run. I loved the stuff with her and Yaz. There was a brief spark of something great with the Fam, there for a while. It sure was great to see Graham. But in terms of who this Doctor is, and what her specific vibe is, I don't think I ever really clicked in with it. It's not the acting, I think that was pretty damn solid across the board. It just felt like someone was holding these seasons back from reaching their full potential.

The plot got a little too messy and convoluted, and I'm going to praise the frantic energy in the "pros" section in a second, but honestly between the Master and the Daleks and the Cybermen and the cameos, I was getting a little dizzy with all the different stimuli, and I'm not sure I had a chance to properly appreciate much of what was happening on my screen.

After all that from Yaz and the Doctor, they couldn't even give us a goodbye kiss? Come on. They created a whole convoluted scenario so we could see 10 and Rose share a kiss, and Yaz and 13 can't even have a little goodbye peck on the lips? Sigh. That's a big disappointment.

Pros:

I did like the chaos, as I said. We started off strong with a space train and a Cyberman fight, we had plenty of crazy and wacky set pieces, with volcanoes exploding and Cybermen shooting themselves through a holograph of a future-Doctor, and a gang of companions around the console of the TARDIS... there was a lot of iconic imagery here, and even when I wasn't 100% clear on what the heck was happening in the plot, I honestly didn't care all that much, because I was still caught up in the energy.

Tegan and Ace are pretty great! I have no familiarity with Classic!Who at all, but these two had so much fun energy, and their chemistry with the Doctor was undeniable. We got some cute energy with our current regeneration, but also brief moments where they got to talk to their Doctors. Honestly, I felt more energy between those older Doctors reuniting with their companions than I ever got between this Doctor and, for example, Dan.

The Master's plot, and his desire to literally become the Doctor, makes no real sense whatsoever, but I will say that performance-wise I loved watching the Master be utterly deranged, and I did like the psychological aspect of the Master's obsession with the Doctor being... envy of her. Wanting to be her literally, because there's nothing else big enough to encompass his dissatisfaction and longing.

Also it was fun to see Vinder, but mostly because I've fallen extra in love with Jacob Anderson since the last time I watched this show and saw that character. He's a bad-ass. Best moment was the Master thinking that any friend of the Doctor's wouldn't shoot a gun at someone, and Vinder being like "BITCH you thought." That was pretty great.

WHY didn't Yaz and the Doctor share a kiss when they were sitting out on top of the TARDIS? Cowards. I'm just saying. But setting that aside, I loved how much their bond got to have a final spotlight. Even as the Doctor lists all the companions who traveled with her during this regeneration, it's Yaz who got to be with her last, before she goes off alone to meet whatever comes next.

And then the wonderful idea that Graham came up with, to create a support group for former companions! All of them sitting around and chuckling about the crazy adventures they've been on. I absolutely adore that idea and hope somehow we can check in with this group at some point in the future.

And then the regeneration itself! Honestly I'm going to reserve judgment about David Tennant. Obviously I love him, and it'll be fun to see him, but at the same time this feels like it's banking on nostalgia to a comedically absurd degree. Instead of judging those last twenty seconds, I'll judge Jodie Whittaker on her breathtaking mixture of sadness and joy in those last few seconds. She did a beautiful job with a role that suffered many years of extremely subpar writing for the show. I wish we'd done more justice to her time as the Doctor, but I'm glad we got to hang out with her for a while all the same.

Spring 2022 Anime Review

Alrighty! This season I actually ended up deciding to watch the majority of the shows that were airing so here’s my run down of the 20+ series for the 2022 Spring anime season! (I will likely never do this again because I 100% burnt out) Edit - That being said, the last week before the finales aired, I decided to use my time to watch some of the ONA's and holy - they honestly stole the show. Both series I watched were at least 9/10 and blew me away, so I'll be starting with those.

Vampire in the Garden Spring 2022 ONA - 5 Episodes I've linked my main review in the title but here's a summary. This series was absolutely stunning. It was whimsical and upsetting and overall one of the best stories I've experienced in a while. 10/10 - Masterpiece

Spriggan Spring 2022 ONA - 6 Episodes This was based off a movie in 1998. I went back and watched it and please don't bother... The concept is amazing but the new series takes that concept and expands on everything the movie was missing. It also covers the same story in episode 2 but makes it significantly better. Right from episode 1 you can feel the 90s aesthetic build into the world and I absolutely love it. The story is neat, the style is great and they have a super interesting combination of modern and classic styles of animation. 9.5/10 - Amazing

Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie Spring 2022 - 12 Episodes   (Posting this before the finale since it's literally the last thing to air) I think a lot of people went into this series expecting a similar vibe to Dress Up Darling and I think that was the problem. This show was actually really wholesome. It starts off with a healthy relationship and amazing friend group. The focus ends up being more on the group as a whole and their interactions rather than just the couple and to be honest, this made the slice of life aspect a lot more believable. I loved watching the episodes and ended up growing really fond of the whole gang. 8/10 - Very Good

Komi-San Can’t Communicate - Part 2 Spring 2022 - 12 Episodes I was pleasantly surprised by this part 2. This is actually just as good as the first part, if not better. I swear second parts pretty much always fall off, but man am I glad that this was consistent. I really liked Komi san, I don’t think it’s S-tier or anything but I think it’s still really enjoyable. I love the slow burn romance and I’m overall very satisfied with the rest of this season. 7.5/10 - Good + (Enjoyable)

The Rising of The Shield Hero - Season 2 Spring 2022 - 13 Episodes This was a show that I was genuinely hyped for when I found out there was going to be a continuation. The first season felt complete and had everything you'd want out of a series, proper character development, story completion and an actual ending. I really felt disappointed by the first 6 episodes of this new season and man was it rough. It throws you right into a totally different narrative and somehow you're in the middle of a war by episode 3. It really wasn’t until episode 6 or 7 when it started to get back to what was relevant to the first season that it felt the show was even worth watching. Because of how drastically different the two halves of the season were I’m splitting this into 3 ratings. Part 1 - (Episodes 1-6) - 4/10 - Bad Part 2 - (Episodes 7-13) - 7/10 Good Overall - 6/10 Fine

Otome Game Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai Desu (Mobuseka) Spring 2022 - 12 Episodes I actually found this concept hilarious. I was a little concerned that the initial appeal would wear off but I found that the spite of the character really held his own throughout this story and I ended up enjoying each episode. 7/10 - Good

Skeleton Knight in Another World Spring 2022 - 12 Episodes This has honestly been a refreshingly simple isekai. I love how they didn't try to add any twists or make it exceptionally different. Thought as it comes with the territory, it did feel like it started to trail off near the end and the story ended up being a little plain.   6/10 - Fine

The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody Quitting Heroing Spring 2022 - 12 Episodes Each Combining the standard “isekai/fantasy” genre shows. Of course, there had to be a few of these in the season. Now I’ve seen my share of horrible isekais and standard fantasy anime over the last few season and I’d say 90% of them are tastefully trash, that said, these 2 barely scraped by. Quitting Heroing was technically something we haven’t seen before and I was pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of the series and the characters. As for the Greatest Demon Lord, this is a hard copy of Demon King Academy with some obvious alterations to make this ✨unique. It really wasn’t worth watching, everything that was decent in this you can get 5x better in Demon King Academy. (Especially since season 2 has been announced for that, this one just isn’t worth it.) Quitting Heroing - 6/10 - Fine Greatest Demon Lord - 4/10 - Bad

Aharen-San wa Hakarenai Shachiku-san wa Youjo Yuurei ni Iyasaretai Spring 2022 - 12 Episodes Each I’m combining these two as they’re incredibly similar in terms of my thoughts on it. They’re both wholesome series. Regarding Aharen-san, I really hated that they decided to try and take the romantic route.. could’ve just left it how it was and it’d just be a decent wholesome series. In the end, both of these series were cute but to be honest, really nothing special about them that we haven’t seen before. Maybe this kind of show just isn’t for me. 5/10 - Average

Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road (The Executioner and Her Way of Life) Spring 2022 - 12 Episodes This was unexpectedly disappointing. The concept was strong and the character design visually looks good but I felt the story ended up being really weak and didn’t really go anywhere. 5/10 - Average   Mahoutsukai Reimeiki - Dawn of the Witch Spring 2022 - 12 Episodes Frankly I should’ve just thrown this one in with the other two fantasy ones. Again, not a new concept, Black clover covers the lack of magic aspect and the outcast witch has also been done before. Ok story, ok animations and ok characters, some of the ecchi in this series made me seriously uncomfortable on top of everything else. 4/10 - Bad   There you have it, the majority of the Spring 2022 anime season. I have lots to look forward to for the summer but hopefully I'll be able to pick and choose rather than stupidly pushing through all of the mid shows.

2. Favorite TV show you’ve watched/discovered this year.

-I'm gonna exclude Bad Buddy from this bc only the last few eps aired this year and say A Tale of Thousand Stars and Triage. I actually put off watching ATOTS for a bit bc the plot synopsis on MyDramaList didn't really interest me but boy was I wrong about that initial first impression bc it's now my number 2 fav BL, closely after Bad Buddy. Rich college boy almost dies, gains a new perspective on life, and decides to go teach in a poor village and meets and falls in love with another guy there. Lots of pining, staring and fated romance ensues and creates a story so romantic and emotionally moving, helped by Earthmix's incredible chemistry. It's the BL to me that feels most like reading a really good romance novel. What's not to love? Triage is now my number 3 fav BL (topping WOH, which surprised me bc I didn't think that I'd be moving WOH from that spot for a good while). Resident doctor gets trapped in a time loop and can't get out until he saves the life of a rich college boy, and in the process, falls in love with him of course. However while trying to do so, the resident doctor discovers that this may not be that simple as he begins to uncover a whole conspiracy that's been happening right under his nose. I've been hyperfixating on this show for months now and still am (although I think Never Let Me Go coming out in a little over a week might pull me out of that bc I'm already going feral over that show). It's time loop medical drama romance with murder and corrupt higher ups and it's also basically a spinoff of Manner of Death since they take place in the same universe and this show sets up the plot of Manner of Death's sequel, Transplant. Tin and Tol are my blorbos who I would die for and I'm so happy that they got to have their happy ending after the hell they went through to get it (They better have a cameo in Transplant where they're just vibing like Tanbun's cameo in Triage). Honestly I've already said so much about this show these past few months so I'll just leave it at that before I start writing a dissertation about how much I love this show. Am just gonna add that I'm very mad about AIS Play for making this show basically impossible for international fans to watch legally. I hope they make this show more accessible to international fans sometime in the near future especially since it's gonna be necessary to watch this before watching Transplant.

5. Favorite ship you discovered this year.

-Tian and Phupha from A Tale of Thousand Stars and Tin and Tol from Triage. Village gays and time loop gays my beloveds <3 (Also thank you P'Aof for giving Phutian back to me next year even if it's just for an ep!!! ATOTS special ep let's go!!!!!)

8. A ship that finally got (back) together this year.

-Erin and James from Derry Girls!!! I'm so happy that Season 3 confirmed that they were each other's endgame romances. Oh, and also while this hasn't aired yet, it's gonna start and finish airing by the end of the month, so also Lyra and Will from His Dark Materials. I know their romance doesn't really last that long because I've read the book but it's still going to be incredibly sweet and heartbreaking while it lasts.

19. A TV show that shouldn’t have been cancelled this year.

-First Kill. FUCK Netflix for cancelling this show when it literally had the views! Netflix hates sapphics and it shows.

25. Rec me a TV show I should watch next year!

-Hm, well I'd obviously recommend Triage to everyone bc it's truly one of the best BLs of the year and it's criminally underrated. I'd also recommend GMMTV's The Gifted and The Gifted: Graduation bc they're just so good. It's a series about a school with a program where they basically train kids with superpowers. Nanon Korapat plays the main protagonist and he's absolutely INCREDIBLE in it. It's not a BL but there is definitely something gay going on between Nanon and Chimon's characters, especially in The Gifted: Graduation.

and ushi <333 our autistic king he’s so funny and cool and cute. karasuno vs shiratorizawa was my favorite match btw like the differences between them…. the different dynamics……… the crows vs the eagles 😵‍💫😵‍💫 hinata from the concrete .. vs ushi up on the mountain top ….. they make me insane. i think characters who are fully sincere in everything they do are SO charming and that’s literally ushi,… he loves volleyball and he’s never mean for the sake of being mean he just wakes up every day and chooses to speak Facts. he’s charming!!! that One scene where he borrows tendou’s shounen jump just to read the adverts…. 😭😭 he’s the funniest man alive . i loveeee him i want to kiss his forehead and tuck him into bed

and then oikawa obv …. little loserboy…….. he’s a hater and he’s pretty and he’s trying his best :(( hardworking characters . are also so so charming. he has so many great moments and banger lines… that whole thing abt talent vs instinct ……. he rlly is so lovely BUT he’s also just . Funny. shows up to matches just to hate on both sides . realest guy alive

Wow, ML:The Awakening is such a disjointed mess and I LOVED it! I'm just gonna jot down my thoughts before going to sleep now, but I've had a great time watching it, tldr it's a bad movie but great fun for a cynical ML veteran

The songs were, overall, truly the worst parts of this movie and taking them out would've 100% improved the movie by virtue of giving things room to breathe and develop organically, but! As a longtime fan turned hater of the show, this movie nevertheless felt very cathartic. It was a mess, but it's actually clear that for once with ML, it's an issue of not enough time rather than too much. In a single movie they delivered what the show STILL never did, even though they're supposedly both done with the first arc of the ML story... Only one of them feels like it was deserved and earned, which is strange considering how rushed both of their conclusions were, but ig it all comes down to which one had the better idea for how to end things

Overall I genuinely do wish that this version was the one that got the time to be the long running TV show, because even though it was cheesy as all get out it also overall got things right much more than the show ever did, like. Most of it felt like it was taken straight out of fanfics I've read, which to some degree has been the case with ML since season 2, but like? Weirdly enough it felt like the movie actually GOT IT, like, it understood what it was about all of this stuff that people found appealing and made an effort to get it right rather than just steal the idea and completely screw up the execution.

This movie felt like a mash up of scenes I've read in fics brought the life, and there wasn't a lot of connective tissue between them, but like??? The VIBES were all correct, which is so much more than I can say for the show...

Anyway the final confrontation was genuinely beautiful and SO satisfying to see after hearing about the shitshow that went down in season 5, it was pretty much everything I could've hoped for and expected to see back in the first two seasons. In general Gabriel was handled SO well imo! One of the most memorable final confrontations I read in fics was one where Gabriel was released from the hold of the butterfly miraculous, which was cursed or something (its been literal years since I read that one so I don't remember the specifics) and was essentially responsible for him spiraling into abusing its power, and the way Gabriel acted in this movie felt extremely reminiscent of that in a way I really appreciated. He truly embraced being a villain while at the same time very clearly losing his grip on reality, and I liked that that's the way they chose to make him sympathetic. He was just... A truly desperate and grief stricken man, and even when he went full villain he still never lost sight of his goal- his villainy and his motives fed into each other in a really beautiful and devastating cycle that the original show never manged to accomplish, and it made him so much more interesting!! He also managed to be actually terrifying and intimidating, not because he was clever (which he isn't, despite what the show would try and have us believe), but because his determination to succeed properly mirrored the hero's determination not to let him. He was fully aware that he was losing himself and Adrien, but since he was already in too deep before he even began, he just truly spiraled into madness over time. Seeing him lose it was the truly scary part here, because the very start shows him being ACTUALLY competent and held in high regard, which just further drove in how low he sank.

I genuinely really loved everything about Gabriel's depiction here, it's pretty much everything the show tried and failed to accomplish done RIGHT. Highkey the highlight of the movie was just seeing the worst villain ever written get a writing redemption lol. Also, Natalie!!! I loved seeing her stand up for Adrien, and ngl if there's a sequel I hope she kills it as Mayura, regardless of what her motives end up being (gay for Emilie? Gay for Emilie.

Chloe my girl!!! She was wonderful in this, my Chloenette heart was so happy to see these two finding their way to becoming equals. Also Chloe had her own minor arc in the background, over time she became more protective of Sabrina and I LOVED to see it, fingers crossed for a Queen Bee appearance in the possible sequel!!!

Oh my god Alya was so gay for Marinette istg wtf was up with that sexual tension lmao I felt so bad for my boy Nino! They do seem to get together at the end though so good for them!

Mari was really cringe, but I was surprised to figure out that it was like... Pretty exclusively during the songs (and the truly terrible scenes with her parents, wtf was that about it was weird)! Overall she was much more relatable, she had believable reactions even if she sometimes jumped between emotions when changing scenes because the movie lacked connective tissues, and I liked how we get to see that a lot of her "not having any friends" thing which was a weird loophole in the show here was a matter of not letting anyone get close to her (which was a cool mirroring of what Chat ends up saying later!!) and how it was partially influenced by a pretty debilitating social anxiety WHICH WE GOT TO SEE HER EXPERIENCE RATHER THAN HAVING IT TOLD IN A FLASHBACK, SEASON 5!!!

Personally I like Marichat the most and Adrienette the least (it tends to be either boring or unbelievable, which is something this movie wasn't immune to), but I found the focus on Ladynoir really fun!!! I liked seeing their friendship and how they're actual partners here to the core, it was great and the developing romance (not Chat's weird immediate crush, why do they keep doing that in ML) was probably the most believable I've seen in canon ML!

All of the lore changes I've noticed were pretty much without exception for the better, and it was really neat to see them!

It was cool seeing the class just chill together in various combinations, it was a good way to keep them there and show that Mari 100% has a place there as soon as she chooses to take part

Why was Mylenne's dad in jail,,, did he do pretend crimes,,,,

Also the movie was really pretty. Liked watching it just for that tbh

Okay so Sports Car is wonderful, I go feral every time you can hear a clip of someone talking in a song even if it's just for a second. I'm getting a couple colour/vibes from the song it's kinda tricky to describe but when it gets REALLY cold and the sky goes a very pale blue that colour and also rose pink magenta which I didn't think was an actual colour but when I looked it up it had some good pictures that matched what was thinking of! It also reminds me of dry cracked asphalt road in the summer and walking by the river on the beach in late afternoon with the sun not quite setting yet.

Infinitely Ordinary is definitely a blue you get right before the sky is pitch black when you can only half see things and it starts getting colder with nightfall and also doing stupid stuff with your friend when you were kids late at night.

I listened to the entire sick seasons and Northern Attitude is probably still my favourite lol. The View Between Villages is sage green and cream white, it's waking up in the morning to find everything covered in snow and while it's beautiful it also feels wrong with how quiet and undisturbed everything is and doesn't feel right until birds and people and other animals go and live in it.

I don't mind the long winters tbh but when it snows in the first week of November well... it sucks but I do love snow!

Oh god I have so many, I’d be truly obnoxious. The ones that immediately come to mind are: a large portion of the riders of Rohan are women in beards because they couldn’t find enough male riders. Also, Viggo Mortensen, Aragorn, broke his toe kicking the helmet in the scene where he’s tracking Merry and Pippin to the orc camp. They kept that scene because the scream was hella convincing. He also bought two of the horses he rode in filming because he loved them. He also bought Arwen’s stunt double’s horse for her. (I adore Viggo Mortensen). Christopher Lee, Sauruman, wanted to be Gandalf. I could be so obnoxious, but most of these are “common knowledge” against die hard fans and quoting them during movies will quickly get you uninvited to movie night LMFAO. Have I mentioned I love LOTR?
