Comic-Con 2008 - Enhanced Edition of Supernatural Panel

Video Improvements - Upscaled, fixed bad aspect ratios, improved colors

I received a great deal of help from @sensitivehandsomeactionman on the color correcting. They gave me tips on how to achieve better colors and they even took a screen shot from my video and corrected the colors on it with their own software to provide me with an example of what was possible. Having that example to reference was invaluable for me, because I'm not good with colors.

Without that help, Jared and Jensen would have looked like they were in training to become the world's tallest Oompa Loompas. Any remaining color wonkiness (Wonka-iness?) is due to my own failure to apply what I was taught and my failure to see the colors properly. But look at that difference! I was pretty excited about this.

Combined Videos to Cover Entire Event

As with my other enhanced videos, I combined multiple videos to create as seamless a video of the event as possible, from beginning to end. For my earlier videos, that meant combining maybe 5 videos. For this one, I used a total of 19 videos from 3 different sources. A lot of those were used for the talking head bubbles, explained further below.

None of the videos are my own. My video description on YouTube has links to the original videos I used.

Good, Color-Coded Subtitles

As with my other enhanced videos, I attempted to provide accurate and as-complete-as-possible subtitles. They're color-coded to make it easier to tell who's speaking. This is especially helpful when people are speaking at the same time, or when the speaker is off camera.

Since there were so very many people talking in this video, I doubled up on a couple colors if I thought I could do so without it being too confusing. Here's the complete color key:

Red = Jared Blue = Jensen Brown = Eric Kripke Pink = Sera Gamble Purple = Ben Edlund Green = General audience Yellow = The person asking the questions. In the first half this is the moderator, Alynda Wheat. In the second half, this is the fan at the mic. White = Mostly the publicist (Holly Ollis), but a couple times it's used for people off camera who I believe were Comic-Con staff. Two shades of orange = surprise guests

Additional Clarifying Content

As with my other enhanced videos, I've added some images to help add clarity to the references used by the speakers. I added images of characters and scenes referenced from the show, images to explain various pop culture references, as well as some explanatory text to help add details or clarity when I thought it might be useful.

I mostly kept this extra content to the sides so that, if it doesn't interest you, you can hopefully ignore it and focus on the main part of the video. Unlike my previous videos, sometimes this is on the left side and sometimes it's on the right side. The margins shift depending on where the talking head bubbles are.

Talking Head Bubbles - Jared and Jensen front and center, but other speakers visible too

This "enhancement" isn't anywhere close to perfect, but it sure as heck isn't from a lack of effort. This represented at least half if not two-thirds of the time I spent working on this video.

I always find the Comic-Con videos frustrating to watch. When the camera moves to other people who are talking, I want to see Jared and Jensen instead. I like to see their reactions and sometimes they do funny things that get missed. But when the camera is steadfastly focused on Jared and Jensen, I also get frustrated because I can’t see the people who are talking. Nope, you can’t win with me! I want to see everything.

I attempted to mitigate this frustration by adding talking head bubbles. The main source videos I used were the ones with the most constant and stable focus on Jared and Jensen. However, if one of the other source videos had a decent focus on another guest, I inserted a small window into that other video as seen below. Eric shows up on the left, because that's where he was seated relative to Jared. Sera and Ben show up on the right, because they were on the other side of Jensen.

Like I said, it's not anywhere close to perfect. Trying to make the bubbles look stable was an enormous challenge for me. Behind the scenes the person in the bubble was bobbing and weaving all over the original video frame, so I had to constantly adjust the position of the secondary video to keep the subject centered in the bubble. They also aren't always bubbles. The people taking the videos often had the writers on the edge of the frame because they wanted to capture Jared or Jensen too, so the bubbles start to collapse when they get too close to the edge because there isn't enough video surrounding them to form a circle.

I haven't decided if the end result was worth how much effort I put into these darn "bubbles", so I'd welcome any feedback -- good or bad.

Massive ask compilation time OH LORD

YES, her journals are a fun read. I somewhat wish there was more to her and The Dark Urge's interactions, too - she's wonderfully evil and clearly very attached to you if you're playing as that character, but I had hoped there was more of a reason for her obsession besides just "you were fun to cut up", haha. I remember reading her journal over a couple of times looking for something I might have missed.

His reaction was pretty in line with the Narrator's cues, just immediate rage over what she had done to him - DU Drow may be a masochist but that's reserved for people he cares about! So, her and her posse met a swift end. Also, despite the fact that the whole tadpole thing turned out being for the best, I think he's easily overtaken by resentment over his lost glory-days whenever faced with it so directly (he misses living in obliviousness) - not to mention his profound fear of vulnerability, and of feeling... Small. The way Kressa spoke to and of him would have absolutely shook him to his core, especially by doing so in front of the others.

As for the question, it depends a bit on the timeline; his dislike of female drow, especially at the start of his tadpole'd journey is pretty irrational and faith status wouldn't be of too much relevance, he just thinks It's in their nature to want to put him down and be conniving, and wants nothing to do with them.

Later, and especially post-game, he might at least give them a chance to prove they aren't "like other drow", though it would take him a lot to ever let his guard down entirely - UNLESS you seem like a complete fool LOL he's actually easy to trick into dismissing you as long as you don't mind playing the role of a dumb idiot.

But if not, he'd have an extremely short patience for any attempts to exert authority over him or his actions - or jokes at his expense, or any level of smugness or secrecy. Nymea would definitely feel kept at arms length because of the gender+race combo alone and have to put up with a lot of snideness. Basically, she'd have to treat this 6'4" feet tall freak with kids gloves to ever develop a rapport LOL

But also... The vampirism may "help"? He'd consider her a "lesser drow" for it. In that regard her attitudes toward Astarion would probably come to be relevant. I'm not sure about that aspect of it to be honest!

First of all, this is a hysterical scenario because he Would just fucking put the ring on without thinking about it LOL so thank you for the laugh that mental image just provided me with.

Oh he wouldn't care though. I mean, he dislikes drow in general, but he is a drow (up for debate, but you know, generally speaking) and he thinks he's pretty great. As long as he's still huge and strong he could wake up a woman tomorrow and not give a damn. And, frankly, his dick could turn into a pussy at any point in time and it wouldn't change anything about his character save for having to add a recurring UTI problem to his character sheet - he'd probably have fun with it.

the harveston sledathon event: jade leech's "incantation"

i'm not sure if everyone has gotten to this part in the new english server event yet, but this part when they were at the market got me curious. so, in typical me fashion, i committed a day of research to figure out what the hell jade was talking about.

first i would like to say that this was put together with A DAYS WORTH OF RESEARCH so if you know more about these plants/mushrooms and would like to add information or correct me please do so in the replies!! i'm not an expert by any means LMAO

with that said, onto the first plant!! i will list the scientific name that jade uses first and then the common name in parentheses. each plant/mushroom will have a picture after the short description for reference!!

Urtica dioica (Stinging Nettle) - A perennial herb that grows best in moist areas. Grows in late fall to early spring. Fall sun, partial shade. Used as an herbal remedy for sore muscles and seasonal allergies.

Aegopodium podagraria (Ground Elder) - Marked as an invasive species in some of the eastern states of the US (Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, Vermont, Michigan, and Wiscousin.) Thrives in moist soil and grows during the summer. It’s commonly used in soup and as a remedy for gouts.

Polypodiopsida (Ferns!!!) - Thrives in moist soil and grows near rivers and creeks. Grows in shady locations in early spring. They reproduce with spores. Fiddlehead ferns are the curled up fronds of a young fern that can be cooked and eaten in various ways (steamed, fried & stored, roasted, pickled, etc.) They can also be used as fertilizer and for landscaping.

Chamaenerion angustifolium (Fireweed) - A perennial herb that flowers in June to September. Grows in full sun to partial shade and moist, well drained soil. Its primary use is medicine but it’s also used in tea, which in turn can be used to treat migraines, infections, and colds. Young fireweed shoots can be cooked and eaten (apparently, they taste like asparagus and should be cooked like them, too.)

Allium ursinum (Wild Garlic or Cowleek) - Thrives in slightly acidic soil & moist conditions. Prefers shady conditions and grows around winter to spring, with a peak season of February to April. You can eat basically the whole plant, but if you eat the bulb the plant obviously won’t grow back. It’s been used as a medical plant and in cooking.

Sorbus (Mountain Ash or Rowan) - A bush that produces edible berries in late summer into early fall, and they stay on the tree into winter. The berries should not be eaten raw, but should be cooked because they contain parasorbic acid. The cooking process converts the parasorbic acid into a preservative sorbic acid. Their astringent taste is made sweeter by the frost. They grow best in full sun to partial shade and moist, well drained soil. They usually grow up to 15 meters tall.

Plantago major (Broadleaf Plantain) - A perennial herb that grows in late spring to summer (and sometimes in autumn.) They prefer moist soil but are very adaptable. Grows in moderate shade to full sun. The entire plant is edible, but apparently the flower shoots are especially delicious. They naturally grow in very dense populations and are easy to harvest. Works as a medicinal herb to treat inflammation and boost the immune system.

Equisetum arvense (Field horsetail) - Another perennial herb that grows from summer to the first frost. Grows in moist soil with full to partial sun. Can be used in tea and benefits the urinary system. Their root systems can grow as deep as six feet.

Craterellus tubaeformis (Winter mushroom, or funnel chanterelle) - Our first mushroom!! They are featured in a lot of recipes and are fairly common. They’re ready to harvest in mid-winter to mid-spring. They can be found in mossy areas with well decayed wood, and grow in loose clusters. They apparently have an earthy/fruity taste, and should be cooked so they don’t taste unbearably peppery.

Boletus edulis (Penny Bun) - Another mushroom with a dark brown cap. Spores grow more mushrooms in summer and autumn. Thrives in moist soil and can be harvested a few days after summer rain. They’re around 25cm tall on average and can weigh a kilo (which made me yell out loud, mind you. That's a big mushroom!!) They have a slightly nutty flavor.

Craterellus lutescens (Yellow Foot) - The last item on this list is another mushroom. It thrives in moist soil and they grow from 2-7 cm in length. They apparently have a peppery flavor when raw, but taste earthy when cooked. They typically grow around moss in loose clusters. They’re pretty similar to the craterellus tubaeformis, as one would expect from their shared genus, “craterellus.”

Overall Plant Conditions (AKA patterns I noticed while researching):

Practically all of these plants love moist & well drained soil. A lot of these plants grow in the summertime and like full/partial sun, but there’s a few exceptions of course. There’s a lot of herbs and perennial greenery that have medicinal properties. Many plants on this list grow well in disturbed soil or near water and roadways. All of them are edible (but beware of dangerous lookalikes!)

THE LINDASIMS2 RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTATION: PART ONE

No idea how to really make one of these posts. Most Sundays I'd wake up and post my own CC. But not this Sunday.

DISCLAIMER: This is not really a callout post. This is a warning to anyone who intends to download Lindasim's stuff. And a genuine one. I have nothing personal against Linda, this is only what I've found from my own deep dive into Linda's files. I have no proof that what I've found is stuff that Linda herself did, but the stuff does exist. And it's terrible.

WARNING: Some of these images contain racial slurs that may make you uncomfortable.

OPENING THE FILE

Obviously, step 1 to any research regarding Sims 2 CC is... opening the file. And at first glance, this may seem completely normal to a CC newbie. It's from 'Base cc #333', 'LS_ACC_TF_AF_nail_M1_4swatches', 'LS_ACC_AF_nail_1v290321_mesh'.

I mean, it looks like any normal Sims 2 file, right? It's a mesh!

Until you open one of DeeDee's own accessory files.

Yeah... notice how there's a TON of stuff that isn't present in the other two?

Now, at first, I gave this the benefit of the doubt. Maybe, I thought, this was just another sign of my lack of knowledge regarding Sims 2 CC. It's been awhile since I've done my own accessories. But let's move on to the next part of my research...

THE 3DID REFERENCING FILES

There are 57 3DID Referencing Files in this nails mesh files. And maybe I'm ignorant, but I'm pretty sure sims don't have 57 fingers.

I didn't have time to actually see where they're pointing to... but... why the heck are they in a mesh file?

THE AGE DATA

This was what originally stood out to me the most. Why the heck is there AGE DATA in a nail accessory?

THE BHAVS

In @dystopianam's post, they mentioned the game reading some of Linda's files as mods. Well, I found the reason why.

There are... BHAVs? In a mesh file? For those who don't know, BHAVs literally alter the game's code or add new code. From what I can guess these BHAVs probably have something to do with the sim embedded in this file?

THE CATALOG DESCRIPTION

This was the icky part. And why I was hesitant to make this post.

Yep, turns out that whoever made this file is a big fat racist. Also fatphobic. Also probably aware that catalog descriptions shouldn't be in accessory files. Most of the ones I've seen were for objects or... sims. But this one isn't.

THE GMDC AND ASSOCIATED MESH ELEMENTS

Okay, through all of this, I was under the impression that the GMDC, GMND, CRES, and SHPE would be the most boring elements to inspect. I... was wrong.

Yep, the sim has a face. No clue what their name is but they are more present in this file than I expected.

THE JPG IMAGES

It's the hero you've all been waiting for... LIGHTNING MCQUEEN himself!!

Yep, he's here too! He's real! And he doesn't just accompany hairs, I can tell you that much, because these are nails!

Apparently these were based on Bruno's files? (From MTS), since there's a Bruno JPG slipped in there.

THE MATERIAL DEFINITIONS

There are 38 random material definitions. IDK why they're here. They're just... vibing.

THE OBJD (OBJECT DATA)

I was baffled to see this here. Why's there an object in here, I wondered. Until I realised the game sees this as a person. So, yep. That's the moment I realised there's an actual sim in here.

There's a bit more stuff in this file (most notably the Texture Overlay XML) that wouldn't fit in this post because of the 10 images limit... but fun fact, our secret sim has grey eyes! Wow!

THE CONCLUSION

Phew, that was a rollercoaster!

I didn't dare actually loading the game with these files (mostly out of fear that secret sim will haunt my dreams forever...) but as you can see in this post, the reuploaded files from Linda are completely fucked. No way around it. These aren't nail files, they're probably nail files merged with a whole-ass sim.

I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject of sims or BHAVs, but this is what Part 1 of my research has yielded and it's made me pretty fucking terrified. How long have people been downloading this 'leaked' stuff only for it to corrupt their game? It makes me wonder how many neighborhoods were lost to 'corruption' that was actually reuploaded Lindasims2 files...

For now, if you have thought about sailing the seven seas to get Linda's Sims 2 CC, I would recommend reevaluating that idea. Unless you want your game to be destroyed like @dystiopianam's and several others.

aga was kind enough to link me to some pre-2020 files of Linda's and they seem OK (so far...) but I would also not recommend supporting Linda on Patreon until we have proof that these files weren't corrupted by her, but by whoever reuploaded them to SimFileShare.

Also, it's not just the mesh file that's corrupted, in case you thought that. Nope, the recolor files have also been given the hidden sim treatment.

I can't really get my thoughts straight right now and really wanted to make this post before I forgot or the hidden sims came to murder me in bed, but for now, cheerio. I'll be back with more 'what the heck is in these files' ASAP!

Image-to-Text AI

I wanted to discuss image-to-text AI, what it's good at, what limitations it has, and how you can use it to help make accessibility easier.

How It Works

To demonstrate how this works, I'm going to use the image from this post.

This photo shows a sleeping kitten laying on desk beside a computer, in between the keyboard and the mouse. There is also a corner of a frame of some sort in the upper right corner of the image. Text displays in the center of the image and reads: my coworker got her new kitten to work and the little nugget was just too tuckered out from being adorable all day.

Image-To-Text AI

Image-to-text AI is basically the exact reverse of the famous (or infamous, depending who you ask) text-to-image AI that has taken the world by storm since early 2021. There are a ton of websites for this, some free, many not. For simplicity, I chose to use the image-to-text feature built into Microsoft Word.

When I paste an image into a Word document, the program automatically generates alt text for it using Microsoft's AI. You can view this alt text in the Alt Text panel when editing the document. It will add "Description automatically generated" to the end of the alt text for transparency though, so if you want to keep the alt text it made, make sure to delete that. You can also edit the alt text directly to make it more accurate.

Microsoft's AI came up with "A kitten sleeping on a desk text to a computer mouse." Honestly, not a bad description at all, except it's missing one important thing: the text overlaying the image. This is because Microsoft's image-to-text AI, like many AI of this kind, does not have the ability to transcribe text directly from the image. However, there is a technology that can.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

Optical character recognition, or OCR, is a technology that dates back to the 1970s, possibly earlier depending on how you define it. While it's application and accuracy have grown extensively since then, the core function remains the same: recognizing text in an image and transcribing it into a true text format.

I took the photo from the previous section and put it into a Free Online OCR Image To Text Converter.

It recognized there was text on the image and transcribed it exactly. Very useful, but it doesn't give us any info about the actual image outside of that.

Limitations

Now, the examples I used above were kind of an ideal situation. AI is not as good with more complex images. For example, I tried putting in a screenshot of a tweet from nym™ (@aretteepls) with a photo of The Sphere at the Venetian Resort in Los Vegas. It is currently displaying a image of SpongeBob's face that fills the entire globe and glows very brightly, turning the night sky's clouds a tinge of yellow. Above the photo, the actual tweet says: The sky is turning yellow because of Spunch Bob.

Microsoft's image-to-text AI came up with "A screenshot of a phone." Defintely much less impressive than our first example, but AI is only as good as the data it's trained on. Things like "screenshot of a phone" or "screenshot of a computer" are not uncommon when AI recognizes that you're giving it a screenshot of something on a screen, but can't make heads or tails of what's in it beyond that. And once again, it has no OCR capabilities, so none of the text on the image is transcribed.

But even OCR isn't infallible. The output for this image from that same website I used earlier would be:

The trademark symbol is kind of faint on the screenshot, so the OCR struggled with making that out, transcribing it as "comma M" instead. The less clear the text is visually, the less accurate the OCR output is going to be.

What Do We Do With This?

AI is best when used in conjunction with human aid, and image-to-text AI is non exception. I think the best way forward with this technology is to use generated descriptions as a starting point, not a replacement for human-written ones. And of course, we need to be careful what programs you use to generate the descriptions, especially with art. Programs like Chat GPT have image-to-text functions, but there is no guarantee that an image you upload to it for that purpose will not be used to train it's text-to-image AI as well.

Unfortunately, the more ethically-sourced a training data base for AI is, the more limited it will be compared to it's less-ethically sourced counterparts.

But there are legal precedents being put in place around this, and many text-to-image AI programs now have explicit and detailed terms of service for what you can and can't do with its output, as well as what you should be uploading as input.

So, for the time being, be very cautious with how you use this technology especially when describing others' art. And even with your own art, read through terms and conditions before uploading your work to a website. I think the Microsoft Word one is fairly safe though.

I also think it would be great if someone developed a image-to-text AI that could incorporate OCR to make the end result more informative.

Evidence of being a bot-

Their first post was reblogged yesterday. Their blog is entirely fandom reblogs, the only original post is the donation link. They reblog almost exclusively original fandom posts, meaning they aren't reblogging posts that the people have followed have reblogged, which I imagine is what most people do. To me this reads like the bot went though a fandom tag and reblogged every post in it. Additionally none of their posts have tags added, which isn't inherently a red flag, but definitely adds to the 'lack of personality' I've seen so far.

No details provided about who this person is. Personally I'm against providing details online, but usually blogs have a name (even a fake one!) or age or at least their interests in their bio. In the case of legit donation posts, people usually include images or proof, to catch attention if nothing else.

Their profile pic and blog header are both AI generated. This is something a normal blog could do, but combined with all the other red flags I'm adding this to the list. It comes across as way to imply personality without having to actually spend time coming up with a believable personality.

The ask for donations seems iffy to me too. I'm not as experienced with recognizing AI writing as AI images, so I can't say for sure, but im fairly confident this was compiled by AI. It's pretty vague (what ovary surgery??? It's breast cancer why are you having surgery on your ovaries??? Why do you need PT for your left arm?) and says the link is below when it, very clearly, is not.

Anyways long story short I am 99% sure this is a bot, yall should make sure to report and block any similar messages you may get

Possibly extinct, maybe still alive, people jeep thinking they have evidence + footage of it still being around but we can't ID it for sure, the government wants to try delighting it from the Endangered Species list as an extinct species but enthusiasts and conservationists are trying to stop that since their listing protects a lot of forests they would need to live in if they're still around etc etc etc. This woodpecker is like a cryptid, but like we know they existed recently and it's completely possible they're still out there just chilling. also when I look at photos of them they look like a Looney Tunes character. if they're still around, they're THE largest species of woodpecker in the US and one of the largest in the world, with a wingspan of ~30 inches and a length of ~21 in. Their range has been severely reduced by hunting and deforestation (has was done to many of our old-growth forests in the swamps/bottomlands for the logging industry 😭😭), but there are those who believe a population could still be out there, deep within the bottomland forests that still remain in the southeastern wetlands. there are entire memes with the X-files guy and that I Want To Belive poster. I really can't think to add anything else, as this submitter really got their info down. My only addition is my personal statement that as much as I do want to believe there's a population hanging on, I don't think I can. The birds weren't very shy when they were still hanging on, and many of the birders who got the final photos and videos of them remember that they were easy birds to follow, if you were familiar with the area.

That aside, delisting a species that is helping to protect endangered habitat is always tricky, so even if they are truly extinct, we should still do what we can to keep that habitat protected. If keeping an extinct bird on the books is what we need to do so, I'm all for it.

There's a cat! And my favourite characters!! Admittedly, I have quite many of those in dw but I love writing for the fam and River. Always a joy! I also get to focus a lot more on Yaz x Ryan than I originally planned and that is such a treat. They're so good for each other and the mutual support is making me very happy. Also, River gets to be a sneaky little devil and while that is also kinda giving me a headache, I am living for it :)

Plus, writing 'River forces the Doctor to confront her feelings for Yaz' is my favourite thing ever because

I kinda want to do it myself (I like how thasmin was executed for most of it but it remains frustrating. I just wanted more for Yaz. I love her. She deserves a happy ever after with the Doctor (and River))

16. What do you find frustrating about this wip

The length! This was supposed to be a silly little one-shot, where did the plot come from?!

The plot itself is another thing : It is complicated to make it work in general and specifically, I wanted to have some alien baddies involved. And like most of what they should have been able to do could have been achieved by either the cybermen - but the fam doesn't know about them until right before Ryan and Graham leave (nevermind that I am busy breaking canon anyway) - or the timelords - which would have been missing a tiny detail and also I did not know who to pick there as - well Gallifrey's gone right?. And then I looked for alternatives but couldn't find any so in the end I made up some species - which I don't feel entirely comfortable with and it isn't like the most inventive idea anyway and doesn't feel necessary you know? Well I kinda fixed that issue but created new ones and just - why does there have to be plot? I'm not a plot writer. I write pretty little pictures of characters interacting. Not adventure stories. Anyway. Good to challenge yourself and stuff.

23. How would you describe your writing style

Kinda messy ngl. I don't have my computer, so I have been writing on my phone. And just. Don't do that?

But well, there are not many descriptions so far - might need to add those - but loads of dialogue and internal monologue. Like, whoever enjoys listening to Yaz having a queer breakdown for pages and pages will have fun with the fic :)

Also quite a few timejumps and 'this is what happened before/after summarised in 2 sentences' passages, especially in the beginning. Complete with Yaz's comments on them. Like, really, this fic is for Yaz fans. (I hope. Unless I wrote her badly, but I really hope I didn't.)

27. Look for three images which best showcase the overall aesthetic for your WIP

I know the last one's not really an aesthetic - not quite sure the second one is either but cats and cozy, you get it - but just imagine I am the safety net that's throwing them there. And then you get an accurate idea if what 50% of the fic is like (= me putting them into a bed together and them being very platonic about it even though the feelings aren't)

We know that both Magnus and Lance know how to brew potions, but the farmer just taught themselves how to do it, so how would they react to a farmer making the wrong potion? maybe it explodes or something while they are making it, or maybe it looks normal until they drink it and something that's not supposed to happen happens, that's up to you.

Would they panic? Get mad (they keep telling the farmer "I told you not to do it")? Do they laugh and just take it easy?

Answering this question, I could not decide how best to answer it: as a regular description, or to add a little scenario? In the end, everything was mixed into one heap, and... well, it is what it is 🥲 Still, hope you like answer and feel free to add your thoughts about this!

Magnus Rasmodius:

Magnus returned late in the evening from his tower home to farm. He immediately turned to the kitchen, knowing that you would be there. And before Magnus announced his arrival to his partner, he found the Farmer covered in soot. The kitchen is a complete mess, and it's smells like magic and something burning.

The Farmer is the first to greet his spouse, explaining to Magnus that the Farmer's unkempt appearance and the mess in the kitchen are the result of failed attempts to master a new potion. At the same time, the Farmer, while talking with Magnus, they're brews the potion again (stop, why are they brewing this potion in a kitchen pot?).

If the consequences of Farmer's fiasco are like this (soot all over their face, elixir stains all over the kitchen), then he will not overreact to it. Magnus chuckle a little, jokes about their "image and interior change" and helps clean up the mess. He will praise their initiative and desire in learning the potion brewing, but still he will insist on their training in alchemy. At a minimum, learn the safety rules, and no Farmer, they are not boring, and very important, so you will learn them.

Hoverer, If he notices that the Farmer is about to put the last ingredient in the kitchen pot (seriously, why the fuck do they brewing elixirs in the kitchen pot?), which is sure to be the catalyst for a huge explosion and the destruction of a good half of the entire Stardew Valley, then he will stop you instantly. After that, when Magnus calmed down a little, and convinced that nothing else threatens, he will turn to the Farmer and, oh boy, expect a long tirade from your wizard husband, because how could you act so irresponsibly?!

They are banned from brewing potions and learning spells! (not for long, he can’t be angry forever). Magnus scolded the Farmer like a little child.

I mean, they understand why Magnus is so angry, but still, please, I'll be careful, I was so interested, the other potions I learned without any problems, I'm sorry forgive me! 🥲

Lance:

It's impossible to explain, but Lance has been feeling a little weird since morning. His inner instinct told him that something should happen today. Usually he has this feeling before a dangerous fight with a monster. Today he stays at home with the Farmer, everything should be alright. But why can't he get rid of this feeling?

This became clear later, when he found his spouse at a table, on which are various kinds of mushrooms, berries, cones and a home-made alchemy set. The Farmer decided to try their hand at brewing a new elixir, which increases their combat performance for the whole day! Pretty cool, huh?

Lance isn't particularly surprised, since you've brewed elixirs more than once. He knows the composition of this elixir, and therefore he is very pleasantly surprised that you can make this potion yourself.

But before Lance could praise their talent, his eyes fell on a green mushroom cut into small cubes. He knows perfectly well what kind of mushroom it is. The potion contains a completely different green mushroom, but it is very easy to confuse them, since they almost look the same.

And then the instinct works: this mushroom is poisonous, no matter how you cook it, it is a danger, death! It shouldn't be in the elixir.

And when he notices that they are about to take a sip of the brewed potion, he abruptly knocks the bottle out of their hands. The elixir spilled onto the floor, leaving a huge acid stain on the carpet.

Lance isn't too angry, more like he was scared and upset. The Farmer almost took their own life in their own house.

And even though Lance only slightly scolded Farmer for such recklessness, you can see from his face that he was very scared for you. The Farmer feels terribly guilty.

Somewhere in the evening, when they both come in bed, the Farmer apologizes many times and promise that they will not act so irresponsibly towards their own lives, that they will be more careful. Lance forgives them, kisses them, and offers to help them brew potions next time. The Farmer gladly agrees, because this means spending more time with their lovely and caring spouse! Win-win for everyone!

First of all,i love these physical description of napoleon. And i find it cute how someone has deliberately described his little feets.i don't have that knowledge into Napoleonic wars and stuffs right now but i have always known that people used to describe him as ugly not quite good looking but these details are telling me the exact opposite.all i can imagine is a beautiful man.small, fragile and pretty. Especially the long haired era napoleon. This is always a safe place to ramble about Napoleon to your heart's content. I might not have much to say in response, but I'm always happy to read it.

For looks - there are accounts that are both positive and negative regarding his appearance over the course of his life, depending on the person and their own feelings towards him on an interpersonal level and political level not to mention everyone has personal preferences for attractiveness. Not to mention that it's as you said, ideals for what people consider ideal aspects of physical appearance change over time. What was ideal in 1800 for men isn't entirely the same as it is today - with some exceptions (strong profiles, for example).

Young Napoleon would have a drastic rise and fall as a tumblr pretty boy fave because he is very #Problematic, but his early life is one that people can do some great UWU-ing with so it might make his tenure longer than expected.

Tutorial: Custom 4t2 Wall Conversion Part 1

It's finally finished! 🍾 I got a message last week asking if I knew of any tutorials to convert custom walls from TS4 to TS2, and since I didn't (and couldn't find any), I decided to put one together myself.

This tutorial is broken into three parts, one for each program used, and covers the entire process from extraction to import. Since Tumblr won't let me add more than 10 images per post, it's also going to be spread across three separate posts. Fabulous.

Image editing software (I'm using Photoshop)

HomeCrafter Plus

Part 1 begins below the cut!

PART 1: TSR WORKSHOP

Step 1 Download the wall(s) you'd like to convert. In this example, I'll be converting the chevron walls from Peacemaker's Floor & Wall Tiles - Chevron and Field Designs, since they've been on my to-do list for awhile now.

Step 2 Extract the file(s). I usually put them in a project folder at this point, just to make things easier.

Step 3 Open TSR Workshop and select Create New Project.

Step 4 When the Create a new project menu opens, select New import (located under Other) and click next.

Step 5 The Import from .package screen will now open. Next to the "File to import" field, select Browse and navigate to the folder where you extracted the walls. You'll need to select Package (*.package) from the file type dropdown (located next to the File name field) for the files to show.

TSRW will then ask "Is this a Sims 4 package?". Click yes and wait until the program fills the "Projectype" field (this usually take a few seconds on my computer). Once the field is filled, click Next.

Step 6 The Project details screen will now open. You'll need to enter a Project Name, but it doesn't really matter what you put in since we're only using TSRW to extract the textures. You don't need to worry about the Title, Description or Diagonal part. Once you've put in your Project Name, click next. The Finished screen will now appear; click OK.

Note: I don't have TS4, so I always get a pop-up which reads "TSR Workshop could not locate the game folder for Sims 4. Would you like to browse for it manually?" If you also don't have TS4 and you get this pop-up, just click No.

Step 7 Once your file loads, it should look something like this:

Above the right sidebar, click on the Texture tab, and you should see something similar to this:

Select the DiffuseMap, which is the actual texture for the wall, and then click the small Edit button that appears to the right. A new screen will pop up. From there, you'll want to click the Export button.

Note: since I don't have TS4, I'm not really familiar with the mechanics of the game, but from what I've read it sounds like recolors occur within the game itself? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I've never seen anything other than a base texture in TSRW, so we'll need to recolor the textures ourselves -- hence the need for image editing software.

The Export Texture window will now open. I like to give my textures a more easily-identifiable name than what the program provides, so you can change this to whatever you'd like. Change the "Save as" type to PNG and click Save.

You should get an "Export complete" pop-up once it's finished saving.

Step 8 Once you've checked to make sure your texture has exported, you can close down TSRW. If your conversion involves more than one texture, you'll need to go to the File menu, click New and follow Steps 4 - 7 again (there's no need to save your project when asked). Otherwise, it's time to open the texture in your image editor. Click here for the next part of the tutorial.

i’m not sure if you do writing advice and if you don’t, feel free to ignore this! i was wondering how do you come up with such beautiful metaphors/descriptions in your writing? and are there any authors that are good examples of how to create new + striking ones? i struggle with finding new ways to describe things and i fear it’s making my writing boring :(

hi!! firstly, thank you so much for the compliment, it's incredibly kind. secondly, if i'm not mistaken you might have sent me a very similar question some months ago, and i totally forgot until now because i started to answer, draft it, then never remembered to finish it. if that was you i'm so sorry (and if it wasn’t you, i’m still very sorry to the person whose question i never answered)!! i'm not sure i ever feel entirely qualified to give writing advice, and please don’t think your writing is “boring” because it doesn’t fall into a certain style. i fully admit that i lean heavily on metaphor (which is probably obvious give you came to me with the question), but i tend to get really tired of this and wish i could write more pointed, startling prose than manages to impart emphasis without excessive description or “floweriness” (the most widely known author i can think of to point to might be chuck palahniuk, but on tumblr i also think abby aka @exalibur manages this beautifully). we are always hardest on ourselves, and the grass always looks greener on the other side of the stylistic hill. 

ocean vuong discusses metaphor in particular better than i ever could, and there’s some reposts of stories he made on the subject here. i also think heather o'neill would be a fantastic person to look at for metaphor, particular her latest book when we lost our heads (albeit possibly my fave modern book is the lonely hearts hotel, if you read this please come scream to me about it). i pulled a couple quotes of o’neills from the former to use as example, which also fall in line with what vuong outlines:

The mansion was surrounded by a thick bed of beautifully kept pink roses. They were like ballerinas taking a break and sitting down in their tutus. darling. delightful. feminine. and with context, the home of a girl who would put sofia coppola’s marie antoinette moodboard to shame: precious, precocious, and doll-like. She found the violin, took it out of the case, and tried playing a note on it. It sounded like a black cat who was on the gallows confessing to all the bad luck it had caused.   this character refused to play piano because she found every sound it made too happy, and didn’t feel it ‘matched her soul,’ which is why she would eventually try the violin. for a girl who would inadvertently murder someone, and spend much of her life wearing black and writing startling erotica, it’s also entirely on-theme. there’s obviously a lot of ways one could describe roses or the sound of a violin, but each fits perfectly into the respective character. if in the first quote the roses has been described as heavy red roses bowing reluctantly under the weight of a snowdrift like angry russian courtiers, you’re going to get a very different impression of the moment. as with the sound of the violin, if it has been described as a lonesome widow calling to her drowned lover from the pier, it’s going to completely alter the reader’s perception. so while these devices can create beautiful things to read in isolation, the most impactful ones are about more than saying something in a creative way: they add to the desired ambiance!

i know none of that is particularly instructive as to how i or others come up with descriptions, but i think that’s going to be very individual to the person! i personally like to think of it as the association game. i’d like to say it’s something more sophisticated than that, but a lot of the time it really does some down to just pausing for a moment and running along an evolution of images: the roses are red. what other physical objects are red? what emotions do we associate with red? what acts are those emotions elicited by? what sensations do we experience in those actions? there’s no right or wrong way to come up with your descriptive text, but don’t be afraid to take continual leaps not only forward, but backwards and sideways until you find something you like. even if you struggle to feel like you’re not being ‘original’ in the comparisons you’re drawing, there’s always ways to make something more ‘obvious’ less cliche. want to describe the colour red but can only think of roses? that’s okay! just rip it up a bit. turn it to sit on its side. think of a way to make it new. apply the notion of trying to impart something in your metaphor: where can a rose be seen, in what context can they be given or seen? instead of saying her lips were red as roses, there’s something like her lips were the red of a rose you’d find abandoned at the stage door, leaning its forgotten head across the last stoop. finally, it’s overstated (and you probably already know this given how you framed the question), but it also can’t be said enough: reading is your friend! while i definitely recommend the authors i mentioned above (or catherynne m valente, or janet fitch, or i remember reading how much of these hills is gold by c. pam zhang in the summer and thinking there was a gorgeous command of language), i think reading of any kind is going to give you a benefit. it’s just stretching the creative muscle, taking in new phrases, words, and ways to apply them. if you’re feeling mentally a bit bogged up, you could even listen to some spoken word poetry on youtube! i never know if any of my ““advice”” makes sense, but i hope this does, or that it helps in some small way!!  ♡

The Sound of Grief (posted on March 15th, '22)

The first and only Gallirei fic I have ever wrote, it consist of three chapters and it's complete (one of the veeery few that met their conclusions💀).

It is set before the events of the narrative arc that is currently being shown in the anime, and contains minor spoilers from much older manga chapters.

It is about finding a kind of fleeting solace in relations dictated by loneliness and grief, and the inevitabe emptiness that follows.

When the Sun Went Down on Us (last updated on November 22nd, '22)

This is meant to be a long one, and even if it's been months since I've last updated it, I have still intention to continue it up to the end (I have posted two chapters out of approximately twenty eight in total, so it's going to be a slooow journey) and I also have many chapters already planned out, so it's not completely abandoned!

This one is full of spoilers since it's canon compliant and also set after the end of the manga, so I don't recommend it for those who would prefer to avoid them⚠️

The main couple is Reijean (I think the official ship name is this one, but I'm not entirely sure yet) and both of them present a good share of difficulties and traumas while dealing with the horrible thing that life can sometimes be, so the story is full of angst to say the least.

Basically my mind exploded and decided that this story needed a plot twist and also Meursault, overall it came out full of angst, death, blood and other incredibly happy things.

It's Called: Freefall (posted on January 6th, '23)

Inevitably Soukoku, this one shot has its own conclusion! It's pretty short and full of thoughts about delicate matters of life and death, and it is inspired by the song that gave it its title.

Nothing more to add, there are spoilers from the early seasons of the anime but nothing too severe.

How to Rip A Heart Apart (last updated on January 26th, '23)

Also Soukoku, it is a multichapter story (nothing longer than five chapters in total) and I've already begun to write the second one, so it will see the light, eventually. This one contains spoilers from both the main story and other spinoffs, but they are all listed in the summary.

It gets pretty graphic and violent, the main characters tend to act like assholes in this one (as if they usually are slices of cake😅) and lots of people get unalived.

Angst everywhere and also some canon compliant inaccuracies (you'll find them in the first chapter which I think I'll revise and correct sooner or later) but overall it is going to be lighter than my other stories, or at least I hope so.

My first jjk AND stsg fanfic, written by tears and hurt alone, it is set a few months after the infamous events of volume 0.

It mainly focuses on Satoru, burdened with the neverending task of holding the whole sorcery world together but still incapable of letting his past go once and for all.

He finds shelter in his sporadic dreams, in the long lost image of a youth that will never return, until he can't help but mix up reality with what his sleeping self begins to perceive.

It all goes downhill from there.

^ Fuck I... ngl i really felt Chicory all throughout the game. the exorbitant expectations that shes putting herself to because of her master.. the astronomical amounts of self-doubt that came with it.. the massive impostor syndrome.. And now that i mentioned impostor syndrome i might aswell mention the amount of relatability i felt with the playable character (In my savefile she's named Cupcake). The enthusiasm that changes for self-doubt the moment responsibility shows up. The inner voices that keep telling her that she doesnt deserve the brush. that she got it by sheer luck. that she's a terrible artist and that everyone is just lying to her.. i felt all of that

^ These things actually.. well they got to me a lot more than i previously expected. especially the fanart one. i had completely forgotten that that was the first thing i drew there despite the fact that Clementine put it in our parent's house but.. i realyl did not expect that. Iceland, forgot which lake.

I tried to take these picture to show fellow drop-off-fearer @plaguedocboi the slope here, but you can't really see it. Also, it was only about 45 degrees, that's just a lot by my standards. Sinkholes are common where I live, but I guess they're easier to flatten out into a shallow lake than volcanic calderas are.

The slope starts at my toes and continues at the sane grade.

Fun moment today: I was looking up older third gender pronouns (specifically ones coined in or before Tolkien's day) to use in a fic, and I ran into a problem. Several sites say that ae/aer was created in a 1920s science fiction novel, but all the sites I found ultimately traced their information back to a Psychology Today article that doesn't even provide a quote of how the pronoun was used in the book.

So, being slightly obsessive once I get an idea in my head, I borrowed the ebook version from my public library, opened it in a browser window, and searched "ae" until I found the definition of the pronoun.

(Surprisingly many words have the letter sequence "ae" in them.)

Here it is! A Voyage to Arcturus, by David Lindsey, first published 1920, ebook published 2012 by Duke Classics. And no, you can't make me write a formal citation.

I'll add an image description when i get to my computer tomorrow, unless someone else wants to do it.

Have we ever figured out why Orome was the one to discover that the Elves had awakened, not Namo (Mandos)?  There must have been plenty of dead Elves in the few thousand years they were awake before he found them.  Morgoth’s forces were already attacking them, and they literally had to learn how to hunt, forage, and make fires entirely by themselves.  Because of the Sleep of Yavannah, they wouldn’t have many food options and wouldn’t even have many animals that they could watch for ideas on what to eat.  And Tolkien says that they were a lot more like Men in those days, so they probably couldn’t survive for long periods of time without food or survive food poisoning.  So I can’t imagine a scenario where no elves had died yet.

Were their souls not going to Mandos?  Maybe Namo didn’t start calling for them until he knew they existed.  That makes it unfair that Tolkien says that Elves who stay in Middle Earth after their death are “marred” or evil.  (I mean, I think it’s unfair anyway, but even more unfair.)  Maybe once Namo became aware of Elves, those who had already died were allowed to go to him?  But I seem to remember Tolkien saying that Elves in those days really wanted to get away from Morgoth and wanted to go to Mandos to be safe.  So... when did that happen?

So were the souls of Elves going to Mandos, but Namo just didn’t tell anyone?  If any of the Valar would keep their mouths shut about that, it would be him.  But I’m not sure why he would want to keep that a secret.

Or maybe he just built his halls and then didn’t visit them again for thousands of years, and came back to find them full of Elvish souls who had no idea where they were, just that there wasn’t anything evil here.  Now that’s a scenario I’d like to read a fanfic about.  @galadhremmin maybe?

OK, so you guys know I’m not happy about the Amazon show, but I’m going to defend politically ambitious Elrond here.  People are saying that it doesn’t make sense because he was a healer and refused to be high king.  But that’s after the Last Alliance.  After Gil-Galad dies, and Elendil, and probably hundreds of people he knows.  After he established Imladris as a home for refugees.  After he experiences what it’s like to be second in command to the high king.  It’s called character development, y’all.  Let him have his politically ambitious phase.

i'm struggling with the best practice for adding IDs to a tumblr post that is comprised of several different users and images throughout, along with text. Like, first post is a screenshot of a tweet, reblog is just text, next reblog is an image and text... Is it best to list my IDs as "image 1, image 2, etc" or "image in bleepblorp's post, image in kronk's post, etc." ? I want to make sure the IDs are actually helpful to someone using a screenreader.

tbh, i don't know what the best practice is because it's very hard. some of those posts are honestly the most inaccessible posts on all of tumblr and unfortunately they're kind of a tumblr staple. one of the reasons it's hard to give a blanket "best practice" kind of answer here is that i think it's highly dependent on context. for example, if the images serve as punchlines to the text within each reblog, i think it makes sense to include that text as context. and then you're left with basically re-transcribing the entire reblog chain and all of the images and that is just. so much. and inevitably someone will add a new undescribed image, making it necessary to do all that work *again.*

i would say that giving textual context is more useful than just a person's username, unless there isn't much textual context / the text doesn't matter. but again. it depends.

nothing makes me wish people would just include image descriptions with their original posts more than those long reblog chains that i struggle to even begin to describe.
