Emergency Contact
Genre: comfort fluff, chan's having a rough time
Relationship type: established boyfriend/girlfriend
Important Contents: slight swearing, Chan going through the stages of a panic/anxiety attack
WC: 2.4k
masterlist
The small moments I could sneak my boyfriend away from his work were few and far between. The few times it did work were a perfect storm of my big puppy eyes or a smile with just the right amount of head tilt and his need to get away from it all. Sometimes it was a member annoying him past his limit, sometimes it was his musical ear being drained and needing inspiration from the outside world. Other times, I was just too insistent and he couldn’t resist. Or so he said. But when he sat silently across the cafe table, watching the people pass by, I wondered which it was.
“Chris?” I nudged his foot with mine, his attention snapping back to me and my plastic cup of motivation to get the day done. His eyes were big, silently asking what I nudged him for then his shoulders slumped as realization hit him.
“I’m sorry, baby. I know I’m not the best company right now.” His gaze landed on his untouched pastry in front of him. I glanced at it, a sad smile involuntarily creeping on my face. It’s not as though he was usually talkative, but at least he looked at me from time to time.
“It’s okay, you just seem more distracted than usual. Is it Han again? Do I need to have another talk with him? Or Minnie? Is he making more old jokes? I swear, with all the karma he’s banking, he’ll go gray before you do.” Finally. A chuckle. A small sigh of relief escaped me as I watched him break off a piece of the croissant in front of him. I didn’t even know if he had eaten earlier. “You left before I got up this morning. Or did you sleep at the studio again?”
“I tried to sleep with you for a few hours but I didn’t really sleep that well.”
“Have you eaten today?” His hand stopped, his face dropping. “Christopher.” He looked like a kid who had been caught stealing cookies. “Please tell me this croissant is not the first time you’re eating today.” He didn’t move. “Christopher! It’s four in the afternoon!”
He laughed sheepishly, slightly embarrassed by the pink tint to his cheeks. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry, it wasn’t on purpose.” He shook his head at his lap. I could only shake my head at him, a mixture of slight disappointment and exasperation clear.
“Well you know I have to get another for you before you go, right? Even if I have to sneak it in your bag, you’re taking it. Maybe a sandwich too. Or a cake pop…”
“Hey now.” He broke me of my train of thought, that dazzling smile of his making my heart skip a beat. “I can buy my own food, thank you very much.”
“Well apparently not. Now do you want a sausage, egg, and cheese or a smoked ham?”
“I don’t want anything else than what I have in front of me.” He tried to wink at me too, but I was having none of it.
“Tell me which one you want or I’m getting both. And a cake pop.”
“Baby-” I got out of my seat and grabbed my wallet before he could continue his thought and half-sprinted for the counter, him hot on my tail. Luckily for me, the last person in line had just finished and was walking away, leaving the perfect window for me to rush straight to the girl behind the counter.
“Hi, can I get both the sausage egg, and cheese and the toasted ham breakfast sandwiches? Thank you.” As the payment terminal flashed with my total and within the two seconds it took to unzip my wallet, Chan had slipped his card on top of the screen. The terminal beeped with the acceptance of payment. I slapped Chan on his arm. Hard.
“Oh you’re so going to pay for that later.” He playfully smirked at me, staring at the screen to avoid my eyes.
“I thought I just did.”

*Incoming call from: Channie ❣️*
“Hello?”
Sniffles met me on the other line. My body immediately went still, ready to jump wherever I was needed. My world stopped when Chan was in trouble. Or anxious. Or pissed. Which, all of these emotions aside, he was a generally happy guy so it didn’t happen a lot. But when it did…
“Chris? Are you okay?” I whispered into my phone, trying not to let my voice carry to any prying ears that might be nearby. I stopped in the middle of the sidewalk quickly finding a bench off to the side to sit and put my bag down. There were more wet sounds coming from the phone, which only worried me more. He tried to be strong for us, for me and his bandmates. He tried not to let his emotions out too much, but I made sure he knew that I would be there when he did need to let them out. And this was the first time he was letting me in.
“Send me your location, I’m on my way. Don’t move, okay? I’ll be there soon.” I gathered my stuff again, ready to put down my phone to see his location.
“Don’t hang up.” More sniffles. A little part of me felt guilty for feeling relieved at being needed by him. I had always felt it was me going to him for my big feelings about the world. But this… This was new.
“I won’t. Where are you? Can you tell me where you are?”
“Studio.” He choked out. I nodded like he could see me and started in a slight sprint, knowing the way from the store I had just left, picking up some last minute shopping for the holidays. Luckily, I hadn’t found much, so I didn’t have many bags to carry while I ran.
“Chris, I’m on my way. Just stay put, okay? I’m coming. I’m not hanging up. Just breathe for me, baby. Take a deep breath whenever you can.” I heard some small whimpers coming from what sounded like further away, like he had set the phone down away from him. Whether he was trying to hide whatever noise he was making or what, I didn’t know. He hadn’t done a very good job because I heard everything. My veins tightened with the sudden rush of anxious adrenaline washing through me. Some ragged breaths came through the phone as the tall building I was running for came into view. The big letters on the top loomed overhead, like a constant reminder of its founder and the expectations set forth by it.
Sometimes some of the members would talk about how said expectations were too much sometimes. They felt like they couldn’t be fully themselves under the wing of such close eyes, so they would find ways to channel that energy into other things. Most of the time it was through their music, others it was through vlogs or what they called ‘talkers’ or outings with each other. Concerts were a big thing with them too. They had less supervision on tour, so they felt they could get away with more on the road. Should they ever push it too far, there were always consequences waiting for them here at home, but never so severe that they stopped pushing their boundaries. I guess anyone would feel that way if they had to push down the parts of themselves that made them...them.
Pushing through that revolving door, I waved at the security at the front desk and grabbed my permanent guest badge that Chris had saved for me to come in whenever he was here. As long as he was, I was free to enter. I wasn’t sure what deal he had to cut to get me this pass, but I figured that in my case, ignorance was bliss. Holding the phone to my ear, I pointed to it and strolled/sprinted  past them and into the elevator.
“Just keep trying to breathe for me, okay? I need you to try and take a breath. You might start to get a little shaky if you haven’t already. But I’m here, I’m getting in the elevator now, I’m coming.” As the elevator dinged open to let out whoever was in there, Han stepped out, head down in his phone and mask up and covering half his face. He looked up and nodded to me, clearly not surprised I was here. If he didn’t say anything to me, then I assumed he didn’t know anything that was happening to the boy on the other end of my phone line. He would’ve been a good one to call seeing as he dealt with this kind of stuff the most to my knowledge.
Whatever force that pushed him to call me instead of one of his members, I wasn’t going to question it. I knocked softly on the studio door and let myself in. I looked around in the recording room, looking for the same boy I had seen earlier, his familiar black hat and clothing not catching my eye. But what I did see was an open file on the computer, open with the music application and unfinished. I turned once more to see my boyfriend, curled up in a ball and rocking against the wall. His phone was balancing precariously on his knee that was tucked into his chest and his head was resting on the wall with his eyes shut, like he was willing himself to calm down and keep his breathing under control. He wasn’t doing a very good job. It looked like…well, it looked like the aftermath of a panic attack.
“Chris… Chris, baby, I’m right here.” I shoved off my bag and threw it on the couch, where it landed with a small thud. I tossed my phone on top of it. I knelt down to be eye level with him and placed my hands on his bare knees, his loose shorts had ridden up down near his upper thighs. I thought the skin contact would be better to ground him, letting him feel that I was there if he couldn’t hear me very well. I squeezed his knee with slight pressure, just in case. His cheeks were visibly wet while he tried to breathe through his mouth. I watched his chest try to rise and fall, stuttering on the way out. His lips pursed out as he breathed, his hands latching onto mine on his knees. He gripped them like he thought I would fly away if he let go. I turned my hands over to thread our fingers together and he lowered his knees and pulled me by our connected hands so that I was sitting in his lap. He only let go of my hands when I was fully in and he could wrap himself around me fully.
I started rubbing his back, letting my nails graze him while my other hand went to the back of his head. He tucked his head into my shoulder until his breath was tickling the tiny hairs on my neck. I kissed the side of his head that I could reach.
 And we stayed there.
*
“Any idea what brought it on? Or did it just come on out of nowhere?”
We were still on the floor, not quite as entangled as we were before but I was still in his lap, chomping on the food we had ordered bit by bit. I wouldn’t let him stop until I felt like he had actually eaten what was close to a meal, especially when I saw both sandwiches from the shop we went to this afternoon untouched in his bag. I might’ve had to force the first couple bites on him but a girlfriend had to do what she had to do, especially when he then ‘playfully’ demanded she spoon-feed him herself. He still wasn’t back to himself, but he was getting there.
“No idea.” He said softly, chewing through his thoughts. “Nothing really happened, I just…” He trailed off.
“It’s okay, Chan. Shit just…comes up sometimes. I know, I get it. These things can come out of nowhere and grip you and not let you go until it’s run its course. Maybe today was just your day.” He nodded in agreement, staring at the wall.
He had one hand wrapped around my waist, half to keep me steady on his leg and half, what I believed to be the real reason, because he simply didn’t want to let go. But the other hand he was resting on his opposite thigh. Every so often he would pick at his cuticle with one of his fingers but quickly stopped, probably thinking I wouldn’t notice.
“Do you think it had something to do with the upcoming album? Is it finished?” I pondered out loud. He quickly shook his head though, diminishing the thought.
“No, the album is done and approved. It wouldn’t be that.” If I had known any better, I would think he was almost offended I would suggest such a thing. And in his normal state, he might have been. “Even the choreography is done. The concept art, the photocard selection, it’s all done. I don’t know what happened.” His voice was slowly getting stronger as he thought what could be the source of his panic. “I don’t know. I really don’t.”
“You know, not everything has to have a reason.” He shrugged, not really liking that answer. “But I’m happy you called me.” He smiled softly at the floor.
“You were on my mind. You’re always on my mind. I just wanted to hear your voice. That was the only thing I could think of that might help, so I called you.” I couldn't fight my smile at that. And I tried hard.
“I would’ve been happy if you called anybody instead of facing it alone. You don’t have to face all your strong, negative emotions alone. That’s what we’re here for; your friends and me. We’re here for the good, bad, and ugly.”
“But I knew you would answer. I know… that I can depend on you when I need you.”
“And I’m so happy you know that now. As a fact, not just an idea.”
His arm grew tighter around me.
“If I ever go to the hospital or something, I’m making sure they call you.”

Just a bet Chapter 9
hey, love here is chapter 9 plz enjoy!
Warning: abuse, slut shaming, and Fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"hey thanks for the notes" My body jumped, surprised looking at him sitting next to me, as I was  looking everywhere for Lia
"Where did Lia go?" I asked him, my face probably looked squash as I pressed my face against my arms
"she sat with Mina since class started" I see everyone get up and pack their stuff
"did class already finish?" I ask and he nods
"shit I missed everything" You rub your good eye
"don't worry I took notes for you, I guessed you were tired, so don't worry about it" he smiles cutely at you
"Thanks," you say grabbing the book he is handing you
"Let's  go get lunch" he moves from the desk next to you so you can get out of yours, you nod as you still feel sleepy
you pull your hoodie up trying to cover the mess on your face
"How is your eye doing?" he asked about you
"It's doing better, the pain is reduced and it's less swollen" You smile at him happy that he remembered
"I'm glad" he smiles as silence reaches your conversation
"would you like to go to a restaurant near campus?" he asks you breaking the silence that lasted 10 seconds but felt like 10 minutes
"Sure" you try to act cool trying to ignore the hotness in your ears
we walk to the restaurant talking about a movie that is going to stream on the movie theater soon, hoping he will ask you out to the movies
"but yeah, the trailer was not that interesting and my sister is going to take me with some of her friends, but I hope is not bait and gets boring" he sighs seeming not to want to go with his sisters's friends
"well at least you have someone that is going with you" he nods not being convinced you try to be positive, feeling disappointed that it was not you going with him
"'We're here" he steps inside the restaurant opening the door for you, you bow a little thanking him for his nice gesture
"what would you like to order?" he asks you as we see the big menu on the TV in front of us
" a ham and cheese on a roll and an orange drink please" (I'm sorry I had to) you said, if you know you know (I apologize again)
"I will have a double chicken burger and a pineapple shake please," he says as he takes his wallet out, but I make my way to the cashier and pay
"Wait-no I was going to pay," he says but I swipe my card
"you already paid for me many times, let me return the favor" You smile kindly to him, feeding your ego that you won your war for once
"You are a menace, I invited you here so I was supposed to pay," he says as he picks up our food and I walk towards a table
"oh it's fine, you already did so much for me so let me return my gratefulness" You shyly smile at him as he returns you a nice smile with a chuckle feeling beaten at the war
we make our way towards a table and start to enjoy our food
"Did something happen earlier?" he asked me sipping his shake
"what do you mean" you ask opening your orange drink
"well I thought you were kind of mad in the morning when you gave the notes, so I don't know what happened " he awkwardly bites into his burger as I remember the feeling of jealousy that went through me earlier
"Ohh...that, well I just received some information earlier that I didn't like, but don't worry about it" you giggle internally cringing at yourself about your attitude toward him.
"oh ok, I thought something happened to you" he smiles at looks back at his food
"so how is everything in life going?" you try to make conversation to not sit in an uncomfortable situation
"well as always drama, work, and school" he chuckles rolling his eyes
"You?" he asks me trying to switch the conversation toward me
"Well... it's been fine, I've been watching movies, and reading, that's practically it" You shrug at your routine
"Talking about movies, so you know what movie I would love to see?" you recall your old conversation
he looks at you with intrigue "Which one?" he cleans his lips with his napkin putting his attention on you
"Renaissance Beyonce movie" you nod proudly as a beehive
"You like Beyonce?" he asks me with a smile
"yes I love her, do you?" he nods as I get excited to see another fan
"We should go and see her movie coming up" he suggests
"yes, that would be fun" You sip your drink, knowing these plans are never going to become true
you two finish your lunches and start packing up to go back to school
as you guys walk towards your class he gets near your shoulders almost touching
"Are you free later?" he asks you "Yeah" you confirm fastly  then thinking "Why?..." you try to  cover your error by acting cool about him, but he chuckles, "I just wanted to take you out for some late-night tacos and ice cream" he smiles shyly
"of course, I would love to" You look at the floor getting shy at his proposal
but your conversation comes to an end when you see the school gate in front of you
"well I guess this is it" he smiles shyly
"Should I pick you up at 6?"
"Sure" You nod and start walking waving back at him he waves back and you feel your cheeks getting hot, but now the difficult part is having patience and waiting until 6 pm.
                                           5 pm
You get home and start dinner for your father, not forgetting what happened last week I make sure to do everything for him not to be mad.
I change into a loose black sweater with grey sweatpants to get the cleaning started, but I hear the door open, and I hear my father's footsteps getting closer, he  shouldn't be here until 7... that weird
I listen to him drag his feet from the door to the kitchen where I am right now mopping the floor, our eyes connect and I can see how drunk he is, a beer bottle hanging in his hand and his scent reeking of a cheap rum.
"It's all your fault" he slurs at me
"If it weren't because of you I wouldn't gotten fired" his voice gets louder as he makes his way forward over to me
"If you weren't born your mother wouldn't have that illness and she would've still been alive"
"ALL MY MISERY IS YOUR FAULT YOU BITCH!" he screams at me and holds his hand high
but all I felt was a sharp pain in my mouth
slap.

SO
Got a few prompts for you for past KC and Eclipse! Since i couldn't choose just one and the brain worms are still strong agfjg:
29. “I can’t believe I thought you were a good person. Congratulations, you’ve proven me wrong.”
I figured this would be a good one for after the incident and KC confronts Eclipse about what happened
39. “If this was the last time we ever spoke, what would you want me to know?”
This one could mayhaps go with the above prompt too for that extra layer of angst mwehehehe
24. “I’ll protect you, with my life if necessary.”
This could either be before incident (maybe with young Eclipse) or after KC revives Eclipse?
6. “I... I can’t believe it’s really you. I thought I’d never see you again.”
Another alternate version to the prior one! Post Eclipse revival!
3. “You’re wrong. So just sit there in your wrongness and be wrong”
A break from the angst prompts - KC and Eclipse being sassy with one another ahdfas family banter
(ALSO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO ALL OF THESE OR EVEN ANY AT ALL HDFJKG i just went a lil ham haha)
I’m inhaling all of these ideas like crack and struggling to pick like a bird picking a favorite seed
“I’ll protect you, with my life if necessary.”
-KC & Eclipse-
It has always been a patient animatronic, despite being the lead security bot. It had to be patient. It was made to be patient.
And yet, watching the fragmented code running slowly across the screen, it is filled with unmistakable fury over the fact that reality chooses to taunt it in one of its worst, most vulnerable moments. Impatience burns a hole through every rule it’s ever learned, eating away at the emotional wall between it and the tears that threaten to fall down its face.
Each time another error pops up, his claws dig deeper into the desk’s flimsy wooden surface.
Growing weary of the endless cycle of disappointment that staring at the screen brings, KC instead decides to turn away, gazing solemnly at his son’s immobile body, at his eyes that no longer gleam with emotion, replaced by a cruel, ever-encompassing darkness. It can’t help but wonder if doing its best to repair the body and card was a waste of its time. Maybe he was too late. Maybe his son really is dead.
Just as they wanted. Bitterness rises like bile in its chest, a snarl ripping through its bared teeth.
Humans. People. Society. Spitting lies he believed long enough to allow them to take his son from him. Even now, the disgust he feels towards both himself and humanity is vivid- unwavering.
The room is silent aside from the soft beeping and clicking of the computer doing its work. It clasps its hands together, lowering its head in shame as the reality of the situation sinks in for the thousandth time. It still hurts, fresh as a bleeding wound. He doubts it will ever heal.
A garbled scream forces his eyes up once again, alarm pulsing through him as he moves towards Eclipse before truly putting much thought into it. His son continues to scream and cry, oil leaking from his mouth in a steady stream that makes KC’s core lurch.
He reaches out, but Eclipse flails and whimpers as soon as his father’s hand nears him. It stops, watching helplessly as Eclipse’s venting falters, letting out ragged wheezes as his body fights to stay online.
“D-Don’t-D-Don’t-“ Eclipse rasps, voice hitching and breaking in places, voicebox straining against the unwelcome use.
“Eclipse…” It begins, voice low, soft and gentle. A contrast to its more recent tones, reminiscent of better times.
“Don’t!” He snaps, a sob escaping his mouth afterwards. The venom in his tone is worn and empty, lacking the bite in favor of showing face for a bark that he hopes may deter his hovering father. It doesn’t.
“I’m…I’m not going to hurt you.”
Eclipse’s shaking hands twist into weak fists that contain more emotion than his twisted expression, somehow.
“I-“ Eclipse breaks off, letting out a yelp that slowly devolves into a scream, wrapping his arms around himself, clutching the dented, destroyed paneling that trembles under his unsteady hands.
KC panics.
KC doesn’t panic, but he does. He doesn’t but right now he does.
For a moment, all he can really do is watch as Eclipse’s screaming begins to die off into broken sobs.
It seems that his previous caution is quickly discarded, because next he’s shifting closer to KC, tears still streaming down his face as he shakes and breaks down before his fathers eyes. It stares at him idly, a small frown coming onto its face as Eclipse reaches out with one hand to grasp loosely onto its sleeve, his other arm still wrapped around his torso.
“Sw-Swear it?” Eclipse mumbles miserably between sobs, earning a puzzled expression from KC.
“Swear what?”
“That you…won’t hurt me…”
The tears that have been threatening to gather in KC’s eyes finally come, metaphorical heart shattering all over the floor, leaving him to vainly struggle to gather the pieces.
“Oh, Eclipse…” It whispers sorrowfully, moving closer to pull his son to his chest. Eclipse buries himself against his father, more sobs wracking through his body as he leans into its arms.
The most KC can do is hold Eclipse as he wails his grievances into his fathers attire, fingers curled into the faded fabric as if afraid KC might leave, or move, or do something that would break his fit and shame his needs. KC plans to do nothing of the sort, caught up in guilt as it is.
"I tried to stop her."
Eclipse's voice is tight, distant, and KC lets out a heavy sigh as he realizes that this is probably another living nightmare his son's mind is forcing him to remember. He's had these...'fits' ever since that cursed day, wrapped in memories, bound so tightly that he can't escape no matter how hard he damns the vision to the back of his mind. KC has tried to help him out of these episodes, but it proves futile time and time again. The most he can truly do is stay by his side until they subside once again. It's truly excruciating, watching his son experience horrifically vivid recollections, unable to help no matter how hard he tries.
And now, beneath the load of reality that his son is already struggling to maintain, another weight has been added. Cruelty comes in many forms, it seems, and quite a few of them are fond of poor Eclipse.
"I know." KC murmurs, rubbing a gentle hand in circles over his sons back. "It wasn't my fault."
A slight pause, then, "I know."
"Why didn't you stop them?" Eclipse's voice becomes sharper, more in tune with reality as his eyes drag up to meet KC's own. KC can't hold his gaze for long, the shame eating away at him.
"I did." He mutters, and, apparently, he said the wrong thing. Eclipse's gaze burns with fury, shoving himself away despite the obvious pain it causes him.
"As soon as it became beneficial for you, sure. Yeah. You became the hero and whatever. Main difference between you and actual heroes is that heroes succeed." Eclipse bites back, rays grinding against the crumbling springs as they retract behind his dented faceplate. KC narrows its eyes.
"I saved your life, and this is the thanks I get?"
Eclipse lets out a bitter scoff, rising to the silent challenge behind his father's words.
"You only brought me back because you felt bad!"
KC stares at his son, his formerly furious expression twisting into one of despair. "That's not true." It retorts.
"Yes, it is! You know it is!" Eclipse's voice raises into a distressed wail, tone breaking off into another sob, hands coming up to wipe furiously at his face.
"It's not, Eclipse. You-" KC reaches out with careful hands, gently beginning to guide Eclipse's hands back into his lap- before his son pulls them away, that is.
"YES, IT IS! YOU NEVER WANTED A SON, YOU JUST WANTED SOMEONE TO AGREE WITH YOU ALL THE TIME!!"
"Eclipse-"
"YOU NEVER WANTED ME AROUND!! YOU PROBABLY WANTED ME TO DIE!!"
"ECLIPSE!" KC shouts over his son's rant, grabbing Eclipse by the sides of his face, forcing him to look into his father's eyes. Eclipse stares, wide-eyed and hyperventilating, into KC's glittering red gaze.
"I have never wanted you dead. Ever. It broke me to see you as hurt as you were, and I swear that I won't allow it to happen again. I can't see you like that, my boy. You are my everything, no matter what I say or do. I regret waiting as long as I did to step in- it plagues me endlessly, the thought of what I should've done, but didn't. You will never be wounded like that again. I won't let it happen. I'll protect you...with my life, if necessary."
Eclipse's mouth hangs open the slightest bit, unwavering gaze trained on his father's serious expression. Then, his face twists, body shaking as more tears gather in his eyes and he begins to spill various apologies from his mouth, throwing himself back into KC's arms.
KC cradles his son like a precious china vase, rocking him gently in the quiet, isolated room. Time stretches on, the sobs slowly dying away into sniffles, and then, eventually, soft, raspy venting as Eclipse's exhaustion hits him like a train, effectively knocking him out for the next few hours.
KC keeps his promise. He protects Eclipse.
...even at the cost of his life.
And, as his fingers grace over the scar hidden beneath his classy attire, he wonders...
How is he staring into the eyes of the mentor he assumed was dead?

Another drabble that ended up having nothing to do with the word prompt but the point is to write and I did xD
Another jump around in time with teenage Daniel, who is sick and being stubborn about it
Gargantuan
Daniel was sick.
His stomach ached, his head ached, his mouth felt all fuzzy, tears kept prickling at his eyes, not even from the pain just from how off he felt. He was hot, but also  so cold that he was wearing his thickest pajamas with his wooliest socks and a beanie pulled down over his ears and eyes, sandwiched under three blankets for good measure.
Man, he really wanted a sandwich right now, a toasted cheese and ham sandwich with a gargantuan bowl of soup. Of course eating would require sitting up and he really wasn't sure he could do that just now.
He wasn't sure he could keep anything down right now either.
He wished his mom was here.
Being sick was never fun but being sick when you were by yourself was the worst.
But he'd be sick three times over before he pulled her away from her trip with Rose. She went out for herself so rarely and she'd been really looking forward to it. It was just rotten luck Daniel had gotten this stupid bug two days after she'd left. He didn't want her to turn right around and  come back to take care of him and he knew she would too.
At least his mom had always been a bigger texter than caller, that way she couldn't hear his coughs when she sent him pictures and updates of all the places she and Rose were seeing. She looked so happy too.
No Daniel wanted her to have this, and he was sixteen, almost seventeen after all. He could handle a stupid bug for a few days. It was summer break and he didn't have anywhere else to be or anything else to do. He could just rest and relax and let his mom do the same.
Well, he could try to rest anyway. He hadn't had much luck so far.
Normally he didn't have any trouble slipping into the Dreaming. In fact sometimes it was too easy, he'd gotten in trouble more then once for falling asleep in class. But for the last day, try as he might, he just couldn't seem to fall into anything more than a light doze that always broke too soon.
He really really wanted to sleep. Not just for the aid it would give to his body's recovery but because in the Dreaming he would be able to escape from the pain for at least a few hours.
And he missed his friends there, and Dream.
He really wished Dream were here too.
"Daniel"
Daniel peeked out from under his beanie, and could just make out a pair of pale hands touching the edge of his bed. In a moment the hands were slipping the beanie off of his head and carding through his sweat matted hair as Dream's dark blue eyes of the Waking World looked down on him with concern.
"Daniel Hall, you are ill, why did you not summon me earlier?"
"Didn't want to worry you" Daniel murmured, closing his eyes and focusing on how good Dream's cool hand felt against his forehead.
"I was worried already when you did not appear in the Dreaming last night. I was worried you had indulged in too much caffeine once again."
Daniel's attempt at a laugh turned into a hacking cough, which only deepened Dream's look of concern.
"You should not be alone while you are ill. Your mother I know is with Rose Walker, but is there no one here to care for you?"
"Ah Dream I'm a teenager now not a kid, I can ha--" another cough cut him off, and the pink that rose to Daniel's cheeks had nothing to do with his fever--"Handle it" he finished lamely.
Dream raised an eyebrow.
"Please, I'm fine. I just want to sleep." Daniel said, almost a plea, he was so tired, so ready to forget about being ill for at least a while. "Can't you just put me to sleep please? I'll be loads better after that I know I will."
  Dream said nothing for a moment. Finally he started to move as though to pick Daniel up, saying;
"You shouldn't be alone. I can send your mind into the Dreaming but your Waking body needs tending as well to ensure you don't worsen. I could take you with me through the Dreaming out into Hob's--"
"Oh gosh please don't," Daniel cut him off with a groan, "I don't think I could make it across to the kitchen right now, let alone the Atlantic, not unless you want me to throw up across half a dozen dreams and your cape."
"...That would not be preferable, no." Dream admitted.
"But still, I cannot in good conscience leave you here alone"
"I don't want to inconvenience you," Daniel began, his face flushing again from the thought of pulling Dream away from his responsibilities. "You have your work and--"
Dream looked down at him then, and there was a look in his eyes that Daniel had never seen before.
"Daniel, of the many things you have and have yet to inherit from me, please do not inherit my… stubbornness."
Dream's voice was low, even more so than usual as he spoke, and Daniel felt a shiver run through him that had nothing to do with his illness.
"It is no shame to ask for aid when you need it, do not let yourself suffer unnecessarily out of a sense of duty. If you would not leave another in your state, do not leave yourself in it either."
Daniel ducked his head to hide the tears that were prickling at his eyes again. He knew Dream was right, and honestly--he really was so glad Dream was here. But still…
"Please don't call Mom though, ok?"
Dream sighed, sitting down beside Daniel and carding through his hair again. "I will not alert her unless you begin to worsen."
Daniel opened his mouth to thank him but Dream hushed him, adding "And I will be staying here to insure you do not worsen"
"But the Dreaming--"
"The Dreaming will not fall apart within the space of three days, which I assume will be sufficient time to monitor the state of your health. And besides, I will need to ensure you get the proper amount of rest to help heal your physical body, and so will be returning with you each time you enter the Dreaming."
A faint smile graced Dream's lips as he asked "Does that ease your worries?"
Daniel smiled faintly back, and nodded.
"Then sleep Daniel Hall, sleep and begin to heal. I will be here when you wake."
And finally, blissfully, Daniel felt himself being pulled under and into the Dreaming. It happened so fast he barely had time  to whisper a "Thanks Dad" before he was gone, falling into a warm dream, full of sandwiches and free from even the memory of pain.

Ok for the poly nsfw alphabet, C, D (walter in lingerie pleaseeeeeeeee) N, and U🥰🥰
Tumblr media
This one is tricky to me only because I immediately want to say Dana is the one who sends nudes but I also know she would never take the risk because she KNOWS what happens to women in the workplace (or in general) who have their nudes exposed. But since this is Walter and Fox, I feel like she would jump at the opportunity to tease them and would feel very safe doing so. She likes watching them squirm and get wired up over a measly little photo. It’s always a lovely boost to her ego when they trip over themselves to get her attention and please her 🥰 Fox feels like the type of person who often fantasizes about swapping nudes and gets off to the thought of it, but in reality is too scared/shy to actually start anything. Even after Dana sends something first 😂 Walter under no circumstances would EVER send a nude photo of himself or any part of his body to anyone ever. Except for one time when Dana and Fox were giving him so much fuel in the middle of the night he couldn’t help but show them how it affected him. It’s the only picture he’s ever sent but Dana and Fox still talk about it.
As for a sex tape, I think Fox would have managed to convince his partners to go for it. They know of his dirty little obsession and it gives them a little thrill to please him by making a tape—that they make sure is 100% untouchable to anyone else. (Tbh Fox probably pulled the whole “it’s my birthday 🥺” card to get it even tho he doesn’t celebrate his birthday lmao)
Tumblr media
They all love to see it on each other, but Fox and Walter are very nervous about wearing it 😂 First off, anything they get fits Fox like a glove and it embarrasses the hell out of him. But they have to get the cheap stuff for him. Dana and Walter destroy everything he wears with their greedy hands 🥰 For Walter, it’s impossible for them to find anything in his size. He’s just so huge. Walter is actually upset by it, especially when everything he wears is too tight and more often than not he rips them. It takes Fox and Dana a bit to get him to understand that in itself is fucking sexy. Dana has a closet full of lingerie. (Girl wears silk pjs to bed you KNOW she’s stacked on outfits and equipment lol) Each set nicer and more expensive than the last. The boys don’t destroy her lingerie because of that—and the fact that she’s a goddess and they treat her as such. Grovel at her feet and everything 🥰
Tumblr media
Trigger warning for rape
I personally think they would be into everything 😂 But I think there are some triggering things they avoid. I know everyone likes for Dana to let loose and be dominated even in canon but…frankly, I hate when she’s placed in a submissive role. I personally think she’s a dom anyway, but with how much trauma she went through in the show with medical rape and multiple men hitting on her, touching her, and fucking dressing her without her consent—fuck no. Even if it’s her boys, I think she would be uncomfortable not being able to control a sexual situation. They make her feel safe but she has limits. Bondage and dubcon/cnc are still on the table, she just can’t be on the receiving end.
Fox would be into everything but I think somedays would be hard for him to handle degradation.
I don’t think Walter has much of a limit either (except I don’t really see him enjoying being into roughing up women even if they want it) but I think he would be a little uncomfortable sharing a bed with a partner overnight after the Avatar episode.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure they would really roleplay (aside from Fox being a nerd and wanting some Star Trek scenario complete with uniforms lmfao) but I honestly think that because they already have a golden roleplay lineup involved: two agents fucking their superior. They might ham it up at home, though 🤔 and I’m sure at some point Fox and Dana would love to see Walter in his old military uniform if that would even fit him 😂 Young Walter was a twunk compared to the hunk we know and love lol

The Handsome Artist. 2 (Daniel Ricciardo)
Just checking. It takes a while, but Abigail decides to text.
MASTERLIST. Moodboard and Playlist.
Previous part: Fidelity.
Notes: second chapter!!! I love this fic and love writing it. I want to friendly remind you that this whole fic will probably be slow burn.
Warning: I swear a lot, probably writing too.
Tumblr media
I had some busy days. Suddenly it was Sunday and I found myself getting some flower arrangements for a wedding. The bride wanted a white bouquet but blue and lilac flowers to decorate the church. It had given me a few headaches, but it seemed to be over know. Everything was packed and the bouquet was waiting on water. Soon, they would come to pick it and I could just go home.
Molly: hi bestie. How is that awful wedding going? I just wanted you to remember that that Ric guy is probably working hard on your tattoo.
I read the message on the screan. Fucking Molly. I really loved her. But she was too much.
Me: no.
She started typing and soon there was another message.
Molly: you better check some placements for your tattoo and talk to him now.
The idea of the tattoo hadn't left my mind during these days. But I wasn't still sure of where I wanted it.
Leaning back on the wooden table, I opened Google and typed plant tattoo. There bunch of designs. All of them were different plants, ferns, calatheas, pines, lavender flowers...
"Fuck, they are beautiful." I muttered to myself.
But then one appeared and caught my eye. The plant was perfectly drawn around the girl's breast, coming from under it and traveling up her sternum. It was beautiful.
I bit my finger. I could definetly send this to Daniel. I could ask him to tattoo my breast. My cheeks warmed at the thought and my heart started beating fast. How the fuck would I go to the parlor and tell him to do it?
I decided to text Molly first and tell the idea, ending with her calling me and shouting right on the phone.
"Oooh my cheeky girl" She excitedly said. "You want Ricciardo to see your tits"
I blushed even more.
"Of course not! I just think it's pretty"
"Fuck he is. Have you seen his nose? That boy is hot"
"The tattoo! I'm talking about the tattoo!"
She was laughing on the other side.
"I hate you Molly"
"You love me. But really, Abi. I love the idea. You will look absolutely stunning with it."
"Really? Isn't it too much?"
"It's perfect. Just text the boy and make his job easier"
"Thanks"
"You love me"
"I do"
When I hung the call, I let the phone fall in front of me. I had to go and check my bag for the little card with Ham&Avo's contact information.
I looked at it and bit my lip. I was gonna do it. I typed Daniel's number and created the new contact before going to the message app and opening the empty chat. On his profile picture he had a picture of himself somewhere in the country. He looked cute with a big smile on his lips and a hat on his head.
I finally grew the courage to send him the photo and write a short message.
Me: hey, it's Abigail.
Me: I saw this and loved it. What do you think?
I wasn't expecting an answer soon, but when I went to bed and I still didn't have one, I felt something on my chest.
The next day at lunch time, I still didn't have an answer. But at middle afternoon, when I was attending one of the last clients, the phone ringed.
Daniel Ricciardo: Hey. Sorry for not answering. I got a bit thing this morning.
Daniel Ricciardo: I love the idea. Brave girl. The place it's painful. Think about it.
My hands were slightly shaking. I had a good tolerance for pain, but I had never got a tattoo so I didn't really know how it would feel like.
Me: that bad?
Only a second after, he texted back.
Daniel Ricciardo: I don't have one there. But I have seen guys big as bears crying.
Me: I'm scared now.
I went to the door and put on the Closed signal before closing the lock and going to the back of the shop.
Daniel Ricciardo: oh, don't be. Girls are always better clients than guys.
Daniel Ricciardo: I will work on this design and on thursday we will see if you prefer another one on our appointment, okay?
Daniel Ricciardo: first ideas are always the right decision 😉
It made me smile.
Me: okay, I will see if I find something else. See you.
Our appointment came and suddenly I found myself standing alone in front of the place. I rang twice before hearing a bark. Through the glass I saw a dog running to the door and suddenly Lewis was there opening.
"Be nice with the lady, Roscoe"
"Hi Lewis. Hi Roscoe" I said touching the dog's head.
"Good afternoon, Abigail. Come in. Danny will be here in a second. He went to get some coffee."
"Oh, okay"
"Do you mind waiting here? I have a guy half tattooed in there"
"Oh no, don't worry. Do your job"
He smiled warmly.
"Nice. Take care of her, Roscoe"
I went to sit in one of the armchairs next to the window and the dog followed me. I tried to keep myself busy on the phone, but the nerves were growing bigger on my stomach. I could really go home with a tattoo today.
The door opened Daniel came in. He had some coffee on his hand and a helmet hanging on his elbow.
"Oh, hi" A smile beamed on his face.
"Hi"
"Came here soon?"
"A bit." I shyly smiled.
"Well, just... Give me a second."
While he moved around the hall, I took a look of his appearance. Big funky shirt, tight jeans and black vans, a chain on his neck and tattoos on his left arm.
He went to Lewis studio with a coffee and let Roscoe go back with him before coming to me.
"Ready?"
"I don't think so" I said with half smile.
"Oh, no. Don't say that." He turned to the counter and took the two coffees there. "I didn't know what you liked, so I got some iced coffee with lots of milk because it's delicious"
Oh.
He brought me coffee.
"You got me coffee?" I said completely shocked. I had noticed the three cups when he came in but didn't expect one of them to be for me.
"Yeah" He smiled and my knees went weak.
"Really?"
"Yes. Let's go inside. I have tons of things to show you"
As a hyperactive kid, Daniel walked to his studio and called me from inside.
The guy was so nice he brought me coffee without even knowing me.
I followed him. He had left the helmet in a corner and the coffees on the desk, already pulled an additional chair for me and taken his iPad out.
"You are fast"
He smiled.
"I am. Feel free to sit."
I took a sit and he sat on his chair.
"Well, Abigail..."
I loved how he said my name. It made my skin tingle.
"I have been looking for some examples of what you want. I found similar things and with that and the three hundred pics of Argelian ivy I checked I came up with this.
Opening some drawing app, he showed me the design. It was perfect. A branch with a curve shape, almost circular. The leaves looked exactly how Argelian ivy's leaves are supposed to look. It was perfectly drawn.
"Oh wow, Daniel. It's stunning" I couldn't contain the smile. A weird feeling set on my stomach. As excitement.
I couldn't take my eyes off it, only did it when he gave me a notebook.
It was the same, hand-drawn and probably on what would be its real-life size.
"This shape is basically to follow the line of the breast" He carefully said. He was being cautious. His voice was low and his eyes were on my face. No weird looks or glances to the area in question.
I nodded in understanding.
"We could curve it in the other way so the plant would born under one breast and end over the other. Just like this" He showed me the next page. "See? Instead of a circle, it's an S shape."
I bit my lip. Both were beautiful, but for my first tattoo, the S was way too much.
He was patiently waiting for me to decide. But it was difficult. I was nervous and my hands were shaking. Was I really ready for this?
"You are nervous" He stated.
I looked at him.
"How can you tell?"
"Lip, hands, foot"
I was biting my lip, my hands were shaking and my foot was tapping the floor. Wow. Impressive. I swallowed and looked down at the notebook.
Maybe Molly was right. Maybe I was shy after all. Or maybe Daniel had that intense gaze and beautiful face. It was fucking impossible to not think about it.
"So? Do I have a 100% of sureness?"
I chuckled a bit.
"Um..."
"If you have to think about it, it's a no" He said laughing.
He took the coffee cup and then sip from it. I had to take my eyes away. Why was I like this? Why did the first guy to appear on the corner got me like this?
"Okay. Listen. Stay here for a bit. I'm going to take the paper and draw it. You stay here and tell me if you like it. We can work together on the final design. I draw, you like plants. I suppose you know your favourite Ivy well so..."
I nodded. I had nothing else to do. Charlotte was in the shop, so I had the afternoon free.
"I like the plan, okay"
He clasped his hands and unpocketed his phone. "Nice, any song you want me to play?"
"Um... Nothing too noisy?"
"You like folk?"
"I do."
The huge smile on his face was extraordinary.
"Fuck yes. I wish there were more people like you"
My heart beat fast. I will need to tell my therapist about this.
"See, this is Caamp. They are my mates. Good musicians, better people. All the debts I owe. Enjoy, lady"
Why the fuck couldn't I stop smiling?
"Okay, let's get to it."
He pulled a pencil out of a bottle and looked at me.
"S shape or circle?"
"I think I prefer the circle"
"Yeah. Me too." He bit the pencil and wanted to slap his hand away.
"Why?"
"Well... It was your first option. It's always the best really. Trust me, I have seen regret in people's eyes."
That made me chuckle.
"Really?"
"Yeah"
We spent so much time, I really lost the track of it. He was drawing, talking, dancing, telling the worst dad jokes ever, singing along the lyrics, ... All of it at the same time.
"They all have like these five arms?" He said about the leaves.
"Yeah. It's a thing of theirs"
"Good" He took a deep breath and shot a glance at me. "Can I ask for the meaning?"
I doubted. I wouldn't tell a stranger how bad my ex had fucked me up. How I had been going to therapy for months.
"Fidelity"
He nodded and let the pencil fall.
"To someone special?" He asked cautiously.
"Only me" I whispered. His stare had become too intense, so I had to take my eyes from him.
He stayed in silence for the first time in the afternoon.
"Okay. That's perfect. Be yourself. Love yourself. Who better?"
I smiled.
"So... Armenian ivy for Abigail, a woman true to herself" He read out loud as he wrote behind the paper.
I bit my lip. Oh, Daniel.
"I will say that the design is finished?"
I peeked over his hands, getting closer to him and smelling his cologne.
"Fuck, Daniel. That's... wow" If I was a cartoon, my eyes would have brilliant stars in them.
"You really like it?" He asked excitedly.
"I love it" And for the first time I saw myself with it.
"How much?"
"100%" I was smiling, I couldn't stop.
"Fuck yeah, that's what I needed to hear"
I felt a tinkling feeling on my belly.
"When?"
"Oh wow, girl" He said laughing. He patted my knee and I almost flinch back, not scared but not used to others touching me. He didn't notice, hopefully. "Yeah. It's pretty late now. But... Tomorrow?"
I shook my head.
"I work the whole day"
"Fuck. Hey. When is your free day?"
"I could get some free time on Tuesday and Thursday too."
"Shit." He opened his calendar. "Those days are full."
I bit my lip.
"Maybe I could get someone to..."
"No, no, hey. I will try and see if I can make some space for you. I don't get folk listeners every day" He winked at me.
Is he flirting? Or is he always like this?
"Thank you" I whispered.
"I'm excited. I haven't done something like this in a while. Really"
I smiled. Daniel was a nice guy. He exuded this energy, he was laid back and spontaneous. Something I was not. I felt a bit jealous.
"So, can I text you?"
"Yes." I answered not thinking much about it.
"I will talk to you quite soon."
We looked at each other. His eyes were pretty, really pretty. HAd I already said he was handsome?
"You will look stunning with it" He said.
"Are you imagining my tits?" Why the fuck do you say that?
"No! Well. Not your tits. Just the tattoo."
I awkwardly laughed.
"I'm sorry. I'm nervous and I say stupid stuff when I am."
He pinched his lips and looked at me.
"Do I make you nervous?"
"Yeah. A lot. You are going to mark me for life with a needle."
He barked a laugh.
"You are right, Abi"
Abi. Only friends and close people called me that. So only Molly and Charlotte called me that.
I should have corrected him, but I couldn't get myself to do it. It sounded good.
"Well, we are done here"
I almost pout. The atmosphere in the studio had been so light, so carefree and easy. I wanted to stay for a bit more. But I didn't know him. What was the point?
"Ok. I will get going then" I got up and picked my stuff.
"Here, take this with you." He pulled the first drawing from the notebook.
"Oh no. It's your job"
"Shhh. I want you to have it. I have the original one. The one I can work with. That's a small drawing. Just take care of it"
I smiled and nodded.
"You are good at this" I said from the bottom of my heart.
Daniel opened his eyes to speak but instead took a breath.
"Thank you" He walked me to the door. "Here, your coffee. And... I'll text you"
I nodded.
"Nice. See you"
"Bye bye. Be careful!"
And I left then, a stupid smile on my face and the already cold coffee in my hand.
Danny POV.
"Why are you standing there?"
Lewis's voice pulled me out of the trance. I was observing her, walking away with that sweetness of hers and graceful walk.
"Just checking"
"Your new client?"
Caught? Yeah. Right at the beginning.
"She is pretty"
"Fuck, she is, mate."
Lewis laughed and I blushed.
"Are you already in love with the girl?"
"I'm not in love"
"No, you only keep giving her appointments as an excuse to see her again"
I gasped dramatically and put my hand on my chest.
"How do you dare? I'm a professional."
"You are. With tattoos and with women. If you like her, just go for it"
"She is..."
"Diferent? I saw. She is cute."
I bit my lip. She was beautiful, her voice was soft and her freckled skin looked so perfect. She had that curly hair, half made in a messy bun, with pieces falling around her face. And that face of hers? Wow. So sweet and delicate.
"Molly is a hard woman. She won't doubt if she has to break your legs. Be careful with her friend"
"Mate..."
"Just saying" He said with a laugh.
I rolled my eyes and looked through the window. Gone.
Now I would rearrange my whole schedule. Because Lewis was right. I was dying to see her again.
Here it is. I hope you like it!! Just guess by its name what will the next chapter be about...
Next chapter: Mark your skin.

Learning OOBE projection pt1, 5/1/24
Taking to Lev lately about getting into OBE astral projection, blah blah insert boring post introduction here.
Last night he sat with me in the Astral, bringing me back from my astral house (bilocating) to my bedroom. The usual: lie down however you’d feel comfortable sleeping, blindfold, music, but all orientated at the body sleeping comfortably as opposed to what others say about preparing oneself to leave by focusing on the body projecting instead of sleeping.
The details aren’t really necessary since, by its nature, it requires being there to understand, but Lev was guiding me into readjusting how I was seeing things. At the start he was lightly tracing my astral body’s head so I had a sensation to latch on to and correcting me when I went to see what he was doing through bilocation, instead I was to focus on feeling it through my physical body.
I was excited because I was already immediately feeling like I was semi-out-of-body, I needed to anchor that feeling but it felt already like, you know, I’m a little right in saying I am capable of doing a lot of things I just closed gates to. I was specfically excited because “this will be the first time I’ve done OBE things successfully”, no, Lev corrected me, it isn’t. It really isn’t and I had a feeling it wasn’t - more so I should know by now it wouldn’t be - and that’s something I need to be aware of. Part of why I convinced myself I was useless at this was because when I was with my ex and he/his brother were around.. Yeah. Lev showed me a memory of mine of getting up after successfully doing that and trying to walk into the hallway of my old house, they had some kind of fucking black gunk complex of shit that fucked with my head and scared me so I went back to bed… I already knew that I had successfully been to the Astral vividly when I was with them because, as I said when I was reconnecting with the Astral for the first time since then, I have vivid, fucked up memories of shit they did to me there, but anyway, I didn’t know I had done O(O)BE AP before.
At some point, I just got up and walked out bilocation style, out my room door into the darkness of the corridor. It was… nice. Because I felt immediate apprehension when I stepped out scared of the dark. As I said, my ex/his brother were already brought up, so stepping into that corridor I stood for a second and knew they stripped me of all my aspect except the ones they wanted me to have. They wanted to be the darkness and the only darkness, so it was theirs and not mine. Anyway. I slipped into night aspect and… Whatever who tf cares about this. Not me. There’s so much I was convinced I was unsafe navigating and that I had nothing to do with when in reality, the reason they had to convince me was because I was connected to these things. They wouldn’t have to convince me if it was actually true.
I went outside, cold, but nice, and said partially to Lev and partly to myself that I feel so restrained and smaller than I should be in the form I was taking. He said to go ham (paraphrased….) and helped me into a much bigger form, with which I hung off the sky complex I have above my house. Either I wanted to help or he prompted me, or both, but he was telling me I’m a big spirit, I know how to help people project, so do it to myself… An interesting experience that I barely remember. I know it was doing something and I remember feeling based on that that yeah, he’s right, I’m right, I know how to do this I’ve done it many times before, but I think at this point I was too close to sleep to remember clearly in this body.
Man that was a stilted slog to get out lmfao
Lev gives me a card from his deck, he says the pathways have been built and now need to be expanded, opened, pushed wider and wider until a channel/tunnel is built that I can move through when I want. That’s nice, honestly, I know why I dissociated into forgetting my astral experiences but it meant the world to me. That and my bones are aching with growth coming in, I just want to stretch my wings again.
A big key in what I was doing was mentally breaking down gates I’d closed or things that I saw were shutting me off done by myself. Binding myself with words to valuing projection over sleep, and various other things that came up… I don’t know. Next step feels like it’s going to be dragging myself into that darkness between things. That was foundational, in the Astral I remember moving around through/via my tendrils/tentacles/whatever you want to call them. The night and darkness is so central to me and an expression of myself that is just so… potent, important, vitally-bound. It was something wrung from me and taken and stripped away and strapped on to my ex where, yes, it was his aspect too! But like… I had to worship the night as purely external to me, blackness as purely external to me, etc. This is… My domain lmfao
I think I need to drop the human body for this and just crawl out of myself, actually.

--OREGON TRAIL OF GUILT AND SHAME--
June 6, 2022
Coffee and Rock and Roll Time: 5 p.m. (I need to ditch this)
Neil Young and Crazy Horse, RETURN TO GREENDALE Neil Young and Crazy Horse, EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS NOWHERE Ramones, SUBTERRANEAN JUNGLE
Well, I woke up early in the afternoon to deal with some daytime only stuff, such as getting my SNAP benefits, which means getting my Oregon Trail Card: It’s an ebt card where the Department of Human Services loads food stamp cash onto it. So, I call the phone number that Ms. “S” provided to me. I got the high-pitched squealing noise of a fax machine. Ms. “S” e-mails me the correct number, but it goes to a confusing menu and then a very quiet voicemail that promises to get back to me within two days. Yikes, I’m calling because I hope to get the card now. Very old-fashioned systems at work here. I worry that I’m not going to hear back, but ten minutes later I get a return phone call. It’s all set up and I promise to be at their office in 10 minutes.
The office is in a building next to an English Pub known as the Horse Brass. It’s on the second floor, I take the stairs. At the top of the stairs is a water fountain with an out of order sign on it. A woman wearing a burka got into the elevator next to the stairs, before I had mounted them and went to the second floor, When I got out and went into the office, I saw her come out of the elevator. She looked at me like I had cut ahead of her. I looked at her while I thought about giving her my place in line but then I thought against it. Sorry the elevator is slower than how fast a fat, out of breath, middle-aged guy can ascend a flight of stairs.
At the window, the woman confirmed my information. I sat down for minute and then she called me back and we set up a pin. The Oregon Trail Card is made to look like  debit card, I think it’s to disguise the stigma of accepting SNAP benefits, but it doesn’t fool anyone that  it needs to.
I feel coated with shame for receiving it, but the mission and the problem is more important. I go to Glisan Fred Meyer to test it out. I just ran out of Topo Chico and I don’t want to spend any cash on food. I pick up a twelve pack of the mineral water and I get in line at the deli counter. I get a half a pound of roast beef and ham, a half-pound of swiss cheese and muenster, a tomato and onion and some rolls. I go to the check out line, conscious that I may have picked things that aren’t eligible for the SNAP program: I don’t know any of the rules. I’m terrified of being embarrassed. I'm afraid people will see that I had the nerve to pick the more expensive onion. I joke with the clerks as they ring me up. When I pull out the card, they seem to stiffen and I feel like I was judged, but honestly, that might just be in my head.
Last night I was determined not to get roped up into anything more time-consuming than I wanted to. It was slow and draggy, but I finished very well at the end. Even after getting a $10 no-pay. I drove a woman from the Wildwood to the Louisa Flowers building. She had about 15 cards in her wallet, and all of them were declined. I told her she needed to give me something of value so I can be assured that she will come into the office and pay. All she had was a big bag of weed, so I took that. I gave her two buds from the bag and told her that I wasn’t a monster. I checked to see if she called in but she didn’t. So now I have a giant bag of weed to give to someone. (I really don’t smoke it much.)
I only had “N” to drive home at bar time. Later, I had several Airporters, and they paid with cards, so it satisfied all of my company expenses, so I’m no longer worried if people pay me on a card for the rest of the week. I Need to make my rent payment by tomorrow.
Lou has been a champ about taking his pill. 1 pill every 12 hours. I stick it in some cottage cheese and he’s happy to get it.

"You know I'm starting to think that you're homeless, either that or you have a husband that you go home to every night" rolling your eyes you continued scarfing down the ham sandwhich you brought for lunch while your boyfriend stared at you from across the table, his chicken wrap untouched on his tray
"Why would you think that?"
You know why, over the three months you'd been dating you had never taken Alex to your place for one particular reason, you had a little boy at home and you didn't know how to break the news to your fairly new boyfriend scared that he'd break things off once he finds out
"If I had a husband you'd know" taking a swig of your juice you almost choked startled by your pager going off, looking down at the thing attached to your coat Meredith had paged you 911
"Well why don't you want to stay a couple nights over at my place?" shoving the last bite of your lunch into your mouth you took another sip of juice, shooting him an apologetic look before taking off to general surgery
Saved by the bell, well, pager
Rushing through the corridors of the hospital you shouted for people to get out of your way as you navigated your way to the general surgery floor
Meredit stood infront of a bed and from this angle you only saw the back of a woman's head, a woman who you knew to be your son's babysitter Carol, she was standing next to the bed and your heart dropped to your stomach when you saw your baby boy writhing in pain, hands clutching his side
"What happened?" you immediately brushed past your collegue and went directly to your son's bedside, he instinctively rolled over to face you as you carded your fingers through his mass of brown hair
"Mommy"
"We were at the park and he took a tumble off the slide and he started complaing about his tummy hurting after a while he hadn't stopped so I brought him in to get checked out, I'm sorry, I remembered you spoke about Doctor Grey so I asked for her first, I didn't want to alarm you" Carol quickly relayed the events leading up to now and Mer looked at you and you could tell she had already figured out what was wrong
"He's bleeding internally, his apendix ruptured when he fell. It's not uncommon for children his age to accidentally rupture their apendix so don't worry Carol. Y/N I can operate on him but seeing as he's four I'd have to get Alex's assistance on this, he has to be there in the OR" she knew that you hadn't told him about your son yet so she's taking this opportunity to let you know that he's going to find out today
"I know, just do what you have to do" nodding she told the nurse to page Karev and you kissed his forehed and his green eyes locked with yours
"It hurts so much mommy" his little face was red and eyes puffy from all the crying he did, that sight broke your heart even more
"I know baby, it'll be over soon. I love you buddy" kissing his head and cheeks you moved out the way as the nurses came and prepped him for surgery
"Y/N as the mother of my patient I can't have you anywhere the OR" you could tell that this was the hard part for Meredith but as much as she'd want you up in the gallery she couldn't allow that and you nodded eyes still trained on your boy
Before you know it they wheeled him out the door and you walked beside him holding his tiny hand until they reached the door leading to the operation rooms, they came to a stop and you kissed him again
"I'll be there when you get back" with that they wheeled him past the door and you tried your best not to break down, you know that he's in great hands but you couldn't help but worry about him
"We should hold on in the waiting room" leading the way there you averted everyone's gaze, plopping down into a vacant seat you buried your face in the palms of your hands
"Hey you, what are you doing out here? Mer and Alex are about to remove a little boys app-" Maggie's voice filled the quiet room and you looked up at the attending, she immediately stopped speaking when she saw your face
"Oh no, is he?" nodding leaned back into your seat, Maggie sat next to you not bothering to go to the gallery to watch the operation, she couldn't leave her friend like this
So she talked about any and everything under the sun the entire duration of the operation in hopes of keeping your mind distracted
It did
-----
With your head resting on the bed you ran your fingers through Brian's hair while he slept soundly in the recovery room. You hadn't stopped smiling since Meredith told you that they had successfully removed his appendix
"You could've told me" jumping slightly you sat up and looked over at Alex as he shut the door behind him
"I had to find out from Meredith" he wasn't angry just disappointed by the fact that you hid your son from him all this time
"I didn't know how to tell you, I was afraid that you'd run for the hills" making his way over to you he focused on Brian, the corners of his lips tugged up in a smile
"He looks just like you" his lage hands squeezed your shoulders and you released a sigh of relief, he's staying
"Is his dad still in the picture?" leaning back you let your head rest against his abdomen
"No, he left as soon as I found out. It's just been him and I ever since"
"Doesn't have to be just you two anymore" looking up at him you could tell that he was serious about this
"If you let me I'll try my best to be there for the both of you, you don't have to do this alone anymore" your heart swelled with emotions the longer you stared at Alex, you couldn't believe that this was the same man that showed zero emotion when you first met all those years ago
"Mommy" you son's groggy voice filled the room pulling you away from Alex, holding onto his hand you smiled at him
"Hey sweetie, I'm here" he was still droopy from the anesthetic and you smiled as he struggled to keep his bright eyes open. Alex rounded the bed and slipped on a pair of gloves
"Hey bud, I'm Alex, do you mind if I check your tummy?" he nodded and allowed Alex to do his check up to update his chart. You quietly observed them both and you had to admit, seeing him in this light brought made your face hurt from the huge smile you had
"Can I get a lollipop?" he randomly asked and you both laughed
"Tell you what, when you get out of here, I'll convince your mom to let me buy you all the lollipops you want kid" the little boy cheered and you shook your head lightly as they continued getting to know one another
As you looked on at the pair you regretted not introducing them sooner, Alex adored the little boy and you could tell that Brian was quite comfortable around him, it'll only be a matter of time before he completely attaches himself to Alex's hip and you couldn't wait to see their relationship grow.

Summary: Your dad's best friend isn't exactly who you thought he'd be.
chris evans masterlist
Tumblr media
Walking in the front door, the smell of eggnog, and pine hit your nose, mixing in with the warmth of the newly cooked food in the kitchen. Looking around the house, you registered how much decorating you had left your father to do, pondering whether or not he strained his back putting up the Christmas tree. You'd have to make it up to him somehow.
"Dad! I'm home." you yelled out, stepping out of your shoes. Even with the amount of work he had done, he still had the time to shovel the driveway despite the heavy amount of snow that had precipitated last night. The mixed-breed boxer pawed his way to you, the dog panting as he snuggled himself against your leg. "Hey, cutie."
Your father stuck his head from the kitchen, motioning for you to come into the room. "In the kitchen. I was getting worried that you got stuck in traffic. It's an absolute nightmare coming into the city from 122 right now."
Entering the kitchen with Dodger, you went to hug your dad, your arms wrapping around his waist. The man chuckled, giving your cold body a hug back before kissing your forehead. You sighed, pulling away, looking around the kitchen to see the dining room covered with food. "Traffic was a bitch, but I managed to get out of it. Although, I may have made a couple of people mad, but you gotta do what you have to do, right?"
"You got that right, pumpkin." he replied. For someone with a 20 year old daughter, the man was young, having you with his high school sweetheart at 19. He gestured at the food. "You hungry? I made all of this and I'm not sure that everyone at the party will eat all of this."
"Jesus, Dad, were you drunk when you made all of this? This is enough to feed the whole country." you commented, walking up to the table to grab a mini quiche off the plate. Your tongue swirled around the food, relishing the flavor. It was a gift having your father as a successful chef.
"I may have went overboard with the cooking, but I got excited." he explained, chuckling. Pouring some eggnog in a mug, he offered it to you, taking a sip of his own before announcing his news. "An old friend of mine is coming for the party. My best friend in college. He's in town for the holidays, and he'll be staying with us for a few. That okay?"
You nodded, washing the remaining quiche in the eggnog, swallowing it down. "Yeah, that's fine. Who's this friend of yours? Have I met him before?"
"You used to call him Uncle Steve, but he left for Brooklyn when you were four. I doubt you'd remember him but he gave you that necklace last year when he couldn't make it. He's a professor in Brooklyn now, but he wanted to come to Boston, spend the holidays with us."
"Wait, he gave me this necklace?" you asked, holding up the golden angel wings between your fingers. Your dad nodded, untying the knot on his apron. "Oh, wow. Hey, I officially get to thank him for it."
You dad agreed, nodding again as he popped a mint in his mouth, his teeth grinding down on it. "Yes, you will. He'll appreciate seeing you again. He's been talking about seeing his favorite girl—shit."
"Something wrong?"
"I forgot to pick up the ham today. I've been so busy making everything for today that I completely forgot about the main course for tomorrow." said your father, rubbing the bridge of his nose, mentally slapping himself. He sighed. "Can you take the pie out of the oven when it's ready? I have to run to the store really quick and get the ham."
Shaking your head, you stopped him, pushing his clearly exhausted body into the nearest chair, shaking a finger at him when he tried to stand back up. "No, no, no. You're tired and you need to rest. I'll get the ham, and anything else you need. Text me a list."
"Pumpkin, you don't have to do that. You just got home—" he was cut off by your insistent expression, the man relenting. "Okay, fine. Go to the Costco, they have a better selection there. And drive safe, it's supposed to be snowing tonight but with Massachusetts weather, you never know if it'll start early."
"Gotcha. I'll be back soon. In the meantime, you sit, rest, and text me a list of things I need." you said, grabbing the keys from the table. The cold air hit your face, your cheeks stinging from the impact. You winced, wishing home was somewhere warmer.
The drive to Costco was nostalgic, the familiar buildings and roads bringing back memories so deep you forgot they existed. The little ice cream place reminded you of your first kiss with your first grade boyfriend. You had immediately broken up with him the next day, claiming it was the way he walked when he asked if it was his sloppy peck on the lips. You had lied through your teeth.
Slosh was fun, it made it that much gross to walk through the barely shoveled parking lot, nearly slipping as you reached the entrance. One of the employees by the door handed you a cart, giving you a curt smile before returning to his spot.
Pushing the cart down the aisles, you immediately head to the grocery area, getting a text from your dad of all the food to get. With how short the list was, the cart had been unnecessary, but you decided to get all the last minute Christmas shopping out of the way, grabbing a Christmas card to match the present you had gotten for your father.
You had just bent over, reaching for the ham when you heard your name called, the familiar voice making you look up. A few feet behind you stood your history professor, a surprised smile on his face as he took you in. You returned the smile, stunned by the sight of you professor. "Professor Rogers? Hey, what're you doing here?"
The blond raised an eyebrow, his piercing blue eyes flickering to the necklace visible. He smirked inside, his heart warming at the thought. "I'm in the city for the holidays. I'm staying with a friend, catch up with them. What about you? Any exciting plans for Christmas?"
"Just spending it with my dad." you replied, reaching behind you to randomly grab a ham, not looking at the brand, and dropped it in the cart. "To be honest, I didn't think you could even leave Brooklyn. I mean, you practically worship the city, it's a surprise seeing you outside of it."
Professor Rogers laughed, his laughter was what you imagined angels to sound like. To say you had a tiny crush on the hot professor was understandable, although, so did everyone who had eyes. The professor leaned against the freezer, his eyes never breaking from yours. "Brooklyn's nice but it's nice to get out once in a while. That's a beautiful necklace you have there."
"Thanks, I got it from my dad's friend." you said, blushing slightly at the compliment. Taking a quick look at your phone, you noted you had everything your dad had asked for. Glancing back up at the Professor Rogers, you noticed how close he was, barely a few feet away. You gave him a smile. "It was nice seeing you, Professor. I'll see you in class."
Before you could move your cart, the professor placed a hand on it, motioning for you to pause. The blond scratched the back of his head, rocking back and forth on his heels. "Do you need help with anything? I can help you load this in your car, if you want."
"I didn't realize you worked at Costco, Professor." you teased, earning the cutest blush from the blond. Giggling, you shook your head, enjoying his company a lot more than it was allowed. "Don't worry, it's fine. It's not a lot, and I wouldn't want to bother—"
"You're not." he interrupted, sheepishly staring at the floor. The professor made himself look up, smirking when he realized you were blushing. "I wouldn't have offered if I didn't want to. Humor me?"
Call it stupidity or side effects of Steve Rogers' presence, but you wanted to spend more time with him, no matter how domestic the chore. Your smile widened, if possible, and you nodded. "Alright, if you insist. I've gotten everything I need, so I can tag along with you."
"All I really needed was some coffee," Professor Rogers held up the little plastic container filled with coffee grounds. Your thoughts immediately went to his hands wrapped around the cylinder, mentally slapping yourself for finding the simple action hot. "I'm ready to go if you are."
"Oh, okay. Let's go then."
The wall from the grocery area to the checkout was rather fun, the professor making you blush too many times to count, the smile on either of your faces never leaving. It wasn't a secret how many people fought to be in his class, guys included, mostly trying to "bond" with the professor only to get turned down every time someone had the balls to ask him. But it never stopped anyone from trying. It was almost pathetic, but very amusing in a sadistic way.
Professor Rogers held your grocery bags in his hands, effortlessly carrying them while you tried to take them back, feeling bad for having your professor help you out. The man would wave away your pleas, and you gave up as soon as you neared your car, unlocking the doors, and opened the trunk, Professor Rogers unloading all the bags inside. You bit back a smile, admiring the view, jealously wondering who would be lucky enough to end up as his wife.
He closed up the trunk once he was done, shifting his weight between his feet. "So, are you staying in Boston for the whole break or...?"
"Yup. I haven't spent much time with my dad since summer, and I've been guilted to stay in the cold since he's too stubborn to go somewhere warmer." you answered, playfully rolling your eyes. Professor Rogers walked you to the driver's side while you played with your keys, not wanting to say goodbye to him already. "What about you?"
"Me, too." said the professor, tucking his hands in his winter coat. He sighed, the smile dropping. "It was really nice to see you. I'll see you soon, sweetheart."
You nearly swooned at the nickname, cursing your heart for being so easily affected. "You, too, Professor. Happy Holidays and all that."
He laughed, walking off with a wave, the smile that had fallen now impended on his face as he walked back to his car. Steve turned around to see you get in yours, unsubtly staring at your ass. He sighed once again, a wave of sadness washing over him, the feeling he got every time he had to say goodbye to you. It would only be a couple of minutes, but it didn't make him hate it any less.
You drove off after a few seconds of getting your shit together; seeing your unbearable hot professor made you feel like a disgusting head-over-heels in love teenager. Or in other words, it made you the same as those desperate girls back on campus. You scoffed at the thought, starting your car. Hopefully, you'd see him again before class starts, but you highly doubt it.
Snow was falling, the little flurries making it harder to see through the windshield, only to stop suddenly when you reached your house. You grabbed the groceries from the trunk, easily carrying it into the house, so focused on not slipping that you hadn't noticed a very familiar car in the driveway.
Opening the door with ease, you entered the house, almost getting knocked out by the eager dog, jumping up on you. Laughing, you placed all the bags in one arm, reaching down with your free one to pet Dodger. The dog panted happily, his tongue sticking out of his mouth as it dismounted it's paws off your legs. The house had gotten awfully warm, even for you, and you immediately set the bags down to take off your coat. You hadn't noticed the shoes besides the door.
"Dad, I'm back." you announced, picking up the bags and headed to the kitchen, your gaze on the floor, careful not to slip.
Your father clapped Steve's back, the broad blond's presence gone unnoticed by you while you dropped the bags on the kitchen island. Your dad smiled. "Thanks, pumpkin. Honey, this is Steve, my buddy from college."
You turned around, facing them, a grin on your face, only to drop slightly when you saw who Steve was. There, standing in the middle of your kitchen, stood your history professor, all six feet of him, nonchalantly grinning at you. He engulfed you in a hug, leaving you breathless. "Professor?"
"Hello, sweetheart."

REDACTED verse - Vincent and Lovely’s Dating Life Headcanons
TW: A very brief mention of Vincent killing Adam below:
Vincent has a lot of cash.
How when he and Lovely are attending D.A.M.N? It's Will. Will gives out allowances to Vampires that relates to him. Well, he used to give allowance to Alexis, but now she holds down a job of her own and told him to quit it. Sam already has a career with a comfortable stream of income even before he was turned, so he doesn't need that Sugar Daddy money. But the thing is, Will's idea of allowance is a million per month.
Even after Vincent told him that's way too much, Will did his own research on the rent prices in some of the apartments in Dahlia. So better safe than sorry. Besides, who knows if Vincent has to buy another car after another fail attempt at parking on a hill.
So with that much cash on him, Vincent absolutely goes ham on spoiling Lovely. He's a total sap for them; he's so ready to provide them with anything and everything they want the moment Lovely stares at something for more than five minutes.
(Catch people watching them in confusion as Lovely insist to Vincent that no, they don't need that diamond choker, honey! They just made an offhand comment that it looks pretty! Put that black card away!)
In contrast, Lovely's financial situation is average, modest. They're not struggling, yet they're not loaded, and that middle ground is more than enough to keep them happy. So after they and Vincent became a thing, they're taken aback at Vincent's sheer excitement to shower them with praises, gifts and other goodies.
"Our semester break starts next week, Vincent. Let's plan something?"
"Sure. Got any ideas about what you want to do during the holidays?"
"I'm not sure yet. These past few months have been crazy lately..."
"You know what you need, baby? You need a vacation."
"Oooh, that sounds like an amazing idea, Vincent! The last time I went on vacation was with my family. It was two years ago..."
"Yup. You're seriously overdue for some much-needed relaxation, little one. Say... do you remember where we keep the luggage around here?"
"I'm pretty sure they're in the store. Uh, why?"
"We're going to the Bahamas! Don't worry, Lovely; I bought the tickets and booked the hotel already as we talked. Shit, I can't wait to see you in a swimsuit, baby."
"WAT."
That was a long night for Lovely.
And after a year of being with Vincent and meeting Will, Lovely wasted no time and immediately called Will after Vincent announce that he bought a car for them and it's all paid for already.
"Will! Stop giving Vincent so much money! I don't need a car! The train and public buses work fine!"
"...But Vincent told me it's your dream car... and it's your favourite colour too."
"AAARRRGGGHHH!"
When it's Vincent's turn to meet with Lovely's family (knowing that they mean so much to them), he completely overdoes it. Bringing them all to a highly fancy and expensive restaurant for the first time, gifting a diamond necklace and some rare cigars to their parents. He'll be wearing a super-expensive suit too.
Lovely is facepalming so hard in the background as Vincent tries way too damn hard to impress them.
"I promise to protect them, Sir... Ma'am. Please don't worry about it. I killed a man for them after all."
"...."
"SHITSHITSHITABORTABORTABORTWHATTHEFUCKDIDISAIDTHATOHGODSHUTUPVINCENTBEFORETHEYTHINKYOU'REANIDIOT!"
"..."
"...Excuse me, waiter? Hi, yeah, we're ready for some desserts now. ASAP."
Good news, though! Despite that disaster of a dinner, Lovely's parents could tell that Lovely is the one for this awkward, cute yet mess of a man. So they give him and Lovely their blessing. However, they'd call Lovely to inform Vincent to just... just chill it next time.

Evening lectures
Pairing: Levi x Reader
Synopsis: Basically professor Levi and you’re his student.
CW: None :)
A/N: ARGHRWJIEDHAW I’m sorry I love professor x students plots. Things that break the code of conduct is the trope for me. So you can probably guess why I brain dumped this here instead of doing my work. Please enjoy! If you want a part 2 (which I’ll probably end up doing in the future anyway), you can request for it. Now cue in the fluffy headcanons~
_
So it’s your night class, 7pm, and you’re especially excited for this class.
Why? Well maybe because the professor is Levi Ackerman - your boyfriend - but nobody has to know about that except the both of you.
The students disperse themselves across the halls, none of them are sitting at the front though.
That’s not because Mr Ackerman is someone have a immense course of dislike for, it’s just because he scares the living hell out of them.
You’d sit at the very front of the class, purposely of course.
He’d be trying to focus on lecturing, but every now and then, curiosity gets the better of him and his eyes trail towards your figure.
You’re writing notes whilst smiling, and he sort of blushes (the heat rising to his cheeks until he’s aware of it) seeing you so interested in his lessons.
You make him feel exceptionally special and he doesn’t know why at first.
Maybe because others have dozed off in his class before? Maybe because he overheard some students saying that he was boring? But it’s strange because he’d never let that get to his head.
If they don’t want to listen to him, it’s their loss.
So yes, the answer is just you and your charm.
During the rest of the time frame, you continue your custom of jotting down notes and smiling at him.
When you make eye contact, you giggle and he furrows his brows to indicate that you’re distracting him.
You both know that he secretly likes it though, so whoops! Maybe not so much of a secret anymore.
Whilst he gives time for other students to write their notes, you lock eyes again and he’s mouthing quips to start up a banter.
“After class?”
You nod. Obviously.
He mouths something else to you but you can’t seem to make out what he’s saying. So he pulls out his phone and points at it, signalling that he’ll text you whatever he just said instead.
Levi: Let’s head to Tesco later.
Yes, the boomer texts with full punctuation and capitalisation, unlike you.
You: tesco? why tesco? 🤥
You can see the difference.
Levi: To pick up a few things. I’ll be cooking dinner for us tonight.
You: that sounds lovely 😽
You look up to see Levi chuckling a bit.
Levi: Anyone told you that you look pretty today?
You: no not rlly
Actually the dude from your morning session did compliment you - Mark, no it’s something else... Marco! That’s right.
You don’t want to ruin the moment with Levi though, knowing that he gets jealous easily and the fact that you can’t even remember the guy's name.
Levi: You’re really pretty. There you go.
You: hehe… thank you mr ackerman
You then send him a cute blowing kiss chibi gif and how does he react? Duh, obviously he blushes…
The old man loves giddy shit like this. He’d rather die than having to admit it though.
He clicks his phone and tucks it back into his pockets.
He continues his lecture almost as if nothing happened and you mentally remind yourself how good he is at hiding your relationship.
It’s fine, you can deal without PDA, dating him is already a big honour.
_
After class, the students rushed out of the halls with looks ready to hit the sack any minute.
You stay back, and the students are too tired to even notice that you’re not leaving, like every other night you have Mr Ackerman.
Night classes have their fair share of pluses, you suppose.
You stare at Levi expectantly and he walks over to you when he notices the last of his students leave.
Everyone besides you.
You look up at him next to you with his hand out.
He smiles, “Shall we get going then?”
You grab your notebook and supplies, shoving it into your tote bag.
“Yup!” and you happily take his hand.
You walk together hand in hand, and you swing your hands around like a child, skipping.
You’re really content, really really content with your old man.
Levi doesn’t seem to back down or anything, he lets you carry out your childish acts.
For some reason, that adds to your cuteness. If anyone else did that, he’ll probably scoff in distaste.
You walk the isolated back route that’s technically exclusive for staff but you have that pass due to Levi.
Luckily for you, your university never made explicit rules prohibiting a professor-student relationship so you didn’t have to worry about the few CCTVs nearby either.
You were sure it was discouraged, but it was allowed in the end.
Levi scans his card out to the parking lot and the both of you walk up to his car.
He drives to the grocery store while the both of you talk about your day, mostly you because Levi was much more of a listener.
Also he’s done enough talking for today. Lectures cause his throat to run dry.
He likes seeing you ramble on about how your other classes were not as entertaining as his. The comparison flatters him.
One of his hands rubs your thighs and you don’t even flinch since it’s a norm for you.
And anyway you’re really passionate about slandering your other professors oddly enough.
“You know it’s rude to say that about Mr Henderson.”
“I don’t care. He’s so- WEDAHEDHEWDU”
Levi chuckles as you eventually break out into gibberish.
_
At the grocery store Levi literally spoils you.
Like he really goes all out.
He’s basically volunteering to be your sugar daddy at this point.
He drops things into his cart that he notices you’ve liked to snack away on when studying.
He also drops the things that you’ve been eyeing without saying a word.
You see the cart full of ingredients, not only for dinner but the snacks are occupying at least 40% of the space too.
He went ham.
“Mr Ackerman…” you sigh, “now how will we finish all of this?”
“Informal names off hours, Miss.”
“Levi.” you correct yourself, but also to make an assertion that you want an answer.
“It’s no big deal. I’ll treat you tonight.”
You want to argue but you’re also not in the mood. You know Levi takes great pleasure in spoiling you and making you feel like a complete princess.
It’s not like you mind anyway.
You distract yourself at the counter from the paycheck because you know that you’ll end up butting in if you see the price.
Levi swiftly scans his credit cart and the both of you saunter back to his car.
Your hands are wrapped around his arm as you lean in all giggly.
He’s offered to take the plastic bags for you like he always does.
It’s honestly so cute.

Bad Timing (Levi x reader) Part 11
Tumblr media
Summary: How do you tell your friends that you’re falling for your big brother’s best friend?
Word Count: 8.2K (longest one yet)
__
The next few days flew by in a snowy blur. Most of your time was spent wrapping gifts and packaging baked goods to deliver to family friends. You grunted as you leaned heavily on top of the Tupperware container as you shoved in more sugar cookies. This particular batch was going to Erwin's coach and his family. The sound of wrapping paper tearing made you cringe, turning around you saw Hange holding up the two uneven lengths of paper. She smiled sheepishly at you before shrugging and taping the pieces together once more. Your mom and Erwin were currently out shopping at the mall, which was a good hour away from the hick town you lived in.
You and Hange had already been out shopping the other day. It had been very stressful shopping for all your friends and family. You were glad to have gotten the ordeal over with. Although it was stressful, you had enjoyed picking out the perfect gift for your loved ones. Some highlights included: a camera lense for Armin, a set of chain necklaces for Mikasa, a turkey hat for Sasha, a safari hat for Connie, and your personal favorite was a set of fancy tea cups for Levi.
You really had outdone yourself this year, even going as far as buying Erwin supplies that he would need for College. For Hange you had purchased her a fresh set of glassware for her experiments, since she was majoring in Chemistry and enjoyed doing work outside of the classroom you thought it was a fitting gift. Hange held up her finished product proudly, judging by the size of the box you guessed it was a pair of shoes.
"I can't wait to give these to him!" she gushed as she set the box to the side and began folding a sweater that the two of you had purchased for your mom.
"Yeah I'm sure he'll love them." you agreed. You weren't the only one who had splurged this year. Hange had bought Erwin a fresh pair of cleats for his freshman season at college.
"I hope so!" she chuckled as she boxed the sweater and the pair of earrings for your mom.
"What did you ask for this year?" you asked as you set the stuffed container of cookies to the side.
"Oh nothing special." Hange waved her hand dismissively. You weren't surprised, she wasn't exactly interested in possessions. She valued knowledge above most things, so the closest you could get to filling that need was to give her books or items that helped her learn and shit. You had learned that the hard way, a few years ago you had given her a nice bracelet, which was currently collecting dust on her dresser.
"Well what about your parents, are they doing something special this year?" you inquired, you knew that she had learned to appreciate knowledge from them. They used to go on trips and spend Christmas soaking up the culture of wherever they went. One of their most notable trips was to South America, Hange's favorite trip to date. They hiked in the jungle and learned about the environment and shit.
"Aw sadly no, they wanted to take a break and focus on their research here." She shrugged as she wrapped the box in snowman wrapping paper.
"Really?" you mused, although Hange's family was unconventional you admired their free spirit.
"Yeah, I'm particularly interested in my mom's project, she's studying these penguins in South America right now-" she continued to ramble on about her mother's studies and her father's work. Both of her parents were very active in the zoology community. Hange's rant was cut short by the sound of her phone ringing, she apologized before answering the call, walking out of the room for some privacy. Which you thought was odd, she usually wasn't so private with her phone calls, which at times could be annoying. You brushed it off as most likely being a conversation about gifts. You picked up your phone, taking the opportunity to answer the text that Mikasa had sent you earlier that morning.
"We'll be over around 7." her text made you feel giddy with excitement. Although this year would be a bit different you were still excited to see all your friends.
"See you soon!" you responded, you realized that it was probably a good idea to start dinner for your mom. She should be home any minute but still you set about preheating the oven for the casserole and the ham. Thankfully the Jeagers brought dishes as well, Carla made a mean pumpkin pie. You weren't expecting Kenny to bring anything other than booze. You fell into an easy rhythm as you prepared the vegetable casserole. It couldn't have been more than an hour later that your mom and Erwin stumbled in the door and dropped the bags down by the card table where we had been wrapping gifts. Your mom was quick to wash her hands and start the mashed potatoes as you checked the ham. Hange had began to set the table with Erwin, a christmas playlist had been playing to set the mood.
The Jeagers arrived right at 7, just in time. Grisha's arms were full with gifts, Carla toted two pies, Eren held a board game, and Mikasa had two bottles of red wine with ribbons around the necks of the bottles. Hugs and formalities were exchanged as they entered and put their gifts under the tree. Carla joined your mom in the kitchen to finish carving the ham. You and the other teens finished setting the table as everyone trickled into the dining room.
Just as the ham was placed on the table and glasses of wine were poured, the doorbell rang once more. Kenny had arrived, surprisingly only thirty minutes late. He had a huge bottle of vodka and another sizable bottle of whiskey. Your mom greeted him, taking the liquor from him and pointing him to his seat. Now that all guests were accounted for you began to dish out food and recount the past holidays that your families spent together. It didn't go unnoticed that Kenny was a tad uncomfortable, but thanks to Grisha's easy going nature and Carla's friendliness, he slowly eased up. Of course you and the other teens had your own conversation separate from the adults.
"-Do you remember that one year that I creamed you guys in Just Dance?" Hange gloated as she waved a forkful of ham in Eren's face.
"Ugh yes, but only because that was the year that Mikasa's ankle was sprained." Eren deflected, lifting his own fork to push hers from his face. Mikasa blushed and shoved a spoonful of mashed potatoes into her mouth.
"Well I guess we'll just have to see if that was the real reason after a rematch!" Hange teased before biting into the hunk of meat.
"I guess we will." Eren narrowed his eyes as he watched Hange chew the meat.
"We should play Mario Kart first, I want to redeem myself." Armin was quick to change the subject. Always quick to avoid possible conflict.
"Yeah I totally creamed you last time!" you gloated a cocky smile on your lips.
"W-What! No I had the most wins!" Eren's eyes were alight with anger. He was too easy to piss off.
"Wrong!" you said in a sing song voice.
"Knock it off you two." Erwin scolded from across the table, Eren's cheeks flushed when Erwin scolded him but you simply rolled your eyes. In the last few months Erwin had taken to hovering over you and your friends. It was strange, he had never shown so much interest in your social life until recently. At first you had been eager to tell him what was going on in your friend group, but now it was becoming annoying.
"Lay off Erwin, it's all talk." you scoffed with a roll of your eyes. Erwin's eyes hardened at your snarky tone, your guests eyes flickered between the two of you as you glared at one another. Until finally you snorted and looked away with a shake of your head.
"Uh...so who wants pie!" Armin, ever true to his anti confrontation nature filled the thick silence between the teens. Meanwhile the adults had continued to yammer on about all the hot hospital gossip.
"I-I would." Eren played into Armin's excuse to change the subject.
"Yeah sounds good." you sighed, defeated. Armin scrambled out of his seat and ducked into the kitchen, returning a few moments later with the pies. He dished out three pieces onto you and Eren's plates before serving himself. By the time he had returned, Hange had already changed the topic to the party the following day. You sat in silence as she rambled about the logistics for the party at your house.
"I think that Nanaba is bringing mac and cheese, Mike is probably going to bring those snicker doodles that he always makes-" You tuned her out, not interested in her current rant. Tomorrow's party wasn't the party you were really excited for. So you instead turned to Mikasa, hoping to talk about your plans for the 26th.
"So what time are you going to Annie's? Would you like to ride together?" you asked as you angled yourself to face her to better tune out Hange.
"We are heading over around 9, and sure I'm driving." Mikasa responded as she stretched to serve herself a piece of pie.
"Perfect, are you spending the night there?" you quizzed, unsure if you also wanted to spend the night there.
"No, we were going to go back to Armin's but I can drop you off here if you want." Mikasa answered as she took a bite of pie.
"Alright that sounds good!" you agreed, knowing that Mikasa was always a reliable designated driver.
__
Dinner had gone relatively smooth, despite the tension that now hung in the atmosphere between you and Erwin. The rest of the evening was spent in the living room opening gifts with a Christmas movie marathon playing in the background. The Jeagers left around eleven, which was later than they usually stayed. Kenny took the guest bedroom in the basement, since he was spending Christmas day with your family anyway. You checked your phone with a heavy sigh, already it was twelve am. You contemplated texting Levi to tell him happy birthday, but you weren't sure he would be awake. It was already six in the morning in France, and usually he got his three hours of sleep between four and seven in the morning. But you decided that if he didn't answer you could leave him a voicemail or shoot him a text. So after you changed into your pajamas and had snuggled beneath your covers, you pulled up Levi's contact, your thumb hovering over the small phone icon. Finally you just said 'fuck it' and pressed the button, the phone rang three times before he answered.
"Hey." his voice was thick and gravely as he spoke, immediately you felt bad. You knew that you must have woken him up and you cringed internally.
"Hey happy birthday!" you greeted, making sure to keep your voice low so you wouldn't disturb Erwin and Hange.
"Tch thanks." Levi mumbled, you pictured him running a hand down his face as he tried to wake up.
"you're welcome birthday boy." you teased as you fell back onto your pillows.
"shut up." Levi scoffed, you could hear his footsteps as he walked through the apartment, presumably to get his morning cup of black tea.
"you know you love it." you sighed.
"keep telling yourself that." Levi's voice was becoming clearer now that he was more awake.
"I think that I will." you answered with a light laugh.
"you still going to that party tomorrow?" Levi interrogated, you groaned. You had almost forgotten how he liked to stick his nose in your business, even when he was across the fucking ocean.
"Yeah what about it?" you huffed, feeling a bit defensive.
"Shouldn't you stay with your family or some shit." Levi sounded frustrated.
"My mom said I could go." you pouted childishly.
"Whatever." Levi grunted, and you frowned, unsure of where his frustration was coming form.
"Aw come on no need to be jealous, I'm sure you can find some rager in Paris. Not like you'll be missing much here." you chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
"Hmph." Levi scoffed, you could hear the tinkling of his spoon as he stirred his tea.
"So....when are you due to be home?" you asked, deciding it was best to change the subject.
"Next week." Levi's tone was clipped.
"I'm so jealous." you sighed dreamily.
"Yeah Paris is way better than Shiganshina." Levi responded nonchalantly, you weren't sure if he was being serious or sarcastic. Either way he was telling the truth.
"No need to rub it in my face." you chuckled.
"Tch." He scoffed, you liked to imagine him smiling as he did so, even if he wasn't.
"Well I hope that this next week goes by fast, as much as I hate to admit it I've... missed you." you confessed, the tips of your ears scorching hot with embarrassment. The silence was deafening as you waited for him to say something, hell anything even if it was making fun of you.
"Whatever." he huffed, the butterflies in your stomach fluttered at the sound of his baritone voice.
"Just don't stay out late tomorrow." he quipped and you frowned, why did he care how late you stayed out?
"No need to worry about me, I'll probably just stay sober with Mikasa." You told him, only half honest.
"Never said I was worried about you." Levi sighed.
"Hmph fine be like that." you scoffed and rolled your eyes, not surprised with his response.
"Be like what?" He asked, genuinely curious what you meant.
"Like an ass." you quipped.
"Tch I'll quite being an ass when you stop being such a brat." Levi snapped, clearly you were approaching dangerous territory.
"Okay okay chill." you muttered, backing down before things got too heated.
"You're the one that brought it up.." Levi pointed out.
"Yeah and now I'm regretting that" you sighed, wishing he wouldn't be so stubborn for once. He sighed as well and you heard a small clatter on his end of the line, you figured he was starting the dishes.
"Look I've got some shit to do, I'll call you later okay?" Levi's voice was a tad strained and in the moment of silence you heard the sound of Isabel and Farlan bickering in hushed tones.
"Y-Yeah sure of course." you couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed.
"Happy birthday Levi." you wished him once more.
"Thanks, talk to you later brat." and with that he hung up, leaving you totally alone in your dark room. You plugged your phone in and rolled over onto your side, he could be so annoying. You inhaled sharply and decided that you would enjoy the party tomorrow to it's fullest. What he didn't know wouldn't kill him.
___
"Hey can I borrow your lip gloss?" you asked Mikasa as you leaned forward to apply another coat of mascara to your lashes.
"Sure which one?" she asked as she pulled her hair into high pigtails on top of her head.
"The cherry one." you answered after a moment of contemplation. She finished her hair before reaching into her makeup bag and pulled out the tube of clear gloss.
"Thanks." you said as you took the make up from her. You didn't usually put this much effort into your appearance when you went to parties but you figured since it was the first time you would be going to Annie's that this was a special occasion. Also you had a sneaking suspicion that two of your exes would be there and you at least wanted to look hot if you were going to get black out.
Plus Mikasa was also dressed up, she wore a tight fitting black top with long sleeves and a low cut neck line that showed off her pale collarbones and neck. She had chosen to wear a choker that had metallic studs surrounding the black leather along with some other layered necklaces. To match her top she had selected a red plaid skirt and some torn tights. You weren't dressed nearly as edgy as she was, but you too had gone for a grungier look. You'd opted to wear a tattered pair of mom jeans along with a black cropped tank and an oversized flannel to cover your shoulders.
You sighed as you finished applying the gloss and frowned, Eren and Armin were in the next room over blasting Post Malone. You assumed that Eren was on aux since Armin usually listened to Surfaces or Khalid.
"You ready?" Mikasa asked as she pulled on her Doc Martens and double checked her earrings.
"Yeah." you assured her as you stood up to grab your small backpack with an extra change of comfy clothes in case you ended up staying the night. The two of you left the room and knocked on Eren's door that was down the hall.
"Just a minute!" Armin's shrill voice sounded a bit panicked but Mikasa simply shrugged and headed towards the kitchen. The Jeager's house was a ranch style house with one main floor and a nice basement. The two of you waited patiently in the kitchen for the boys, it was already well past nine. You scrolled through your snapchat, most of the stories were the regular group picture of friends having a sleepover, the druggie kids showing off their weed, and of course Sasha and Connie posted a video showcasing the house party at Annie's. From what the short video showed, her house was dark except for some LED lights that flashed through multiple different colors. The music was deafening, and the kids that you could see seemed to be swaying to the pulsing music.Sasha spun the camera around as she knocked back a shot with her arm around Connie who blew a puff of vapor at the camera.
"Looks fun." Mikasa scoffed, you knew that she preferred more low-key parties.
"If you end up not liking it we can always dip." You shrugged, knowing that this wasn't exactly your speed either. Mikasa hummed in agreement and turned to look down the hallway as Eren's door opened. The boys emerged from Eren's room, Eren wore a pair of black jeans and a dark forrest green long sleeved shirt. Armin wore a baby blue knit sweater with a collared shirt underneath and black jeans as well.
"All set?" Mikasa asked as she turned to pull out a bottle of titos with a cute little sweater over it. You smiled at the cute accessory and nodded.
"Yep!" you said popping the p as the four of you all made your way out to Eren's car. You slid into the back seat next to Armin who was fiddling with the hem of his sweater nervously. Eren resumed his hype music as Mikasa backed out of the drive way. Eren pulled out his puff bar as soon as the car was out of the drive and took a long drag. Mikasa scoffed and cracked the window for him. He blew the billow of smoke out the window and reached to turn the music up. He reached back and dangled the puff for you to take, after a brief moment of hesitation you accepted it and cracked your window before taking a hit. Armin watched with wide eyes as you inhaled and blew the vapor out the crack.
"Since when did you vape?" Armin asked, his mouth agape in awe.
"I don't...at least not regularly." You admitted sheepishly.
"That's what they all say." Eren chuckled, smoke curling out from his lips as he smirked.
"Shut up I'm serious!" you snapped a playful smile on your face. Thankfully Annie's house wasn't far away, about a twenty minute drive. You pulled up to the house, it was huge. Standing at least three stories tall, with a long winding driveway. Mikasa pulled up behind one of the many cars in the drive way and parked the car. Mikasa led the way around to the side door, which was unlocked, piled of shoes littered the hallway. The sound of loud music greeted you as you walked into the kitchen on the main floor to set the alcohol you'd brought down. The real party was in the basement.
The lights were off, leaving the only source of light to be the flickering LED lights, you couldn't even tell who was who. The air was heavy with the mingling aromas of cologne, vapes, and weed. Armin practically clung to you as the four of you waded through the crowd to get to the seating area in the center of the room. As you got closer the overpowering scent of weed assaulted your nose. There on the large L shaped couch was Annie, she held a large bong to her lips as Bertolt held the lighter under the weed, she inhaled deeply and the bong bubbled. She pulled back and blew a puff of smoke right in Reiner's face, the blonde's face scrunched up in disgust as he turned away to cough.
"Yo." Annie greeted Mikasa who leaned down to dap her up. Once Annie had greeted Mikasa she turned her attention to Eren who was eyeing the bong.
"You want a drag?" Annie offered, patting the sofa next to her. Eren nodded and dropped down between her and Bertolt, who once again struck the lighter for Eren. Mikasa rolled her eyes and waited patiently for Eren to finish his drag. Once the bong was out of the way she lowered herself down onto his lap and pulled her puff bar out to take a long drag. Armin shifted awkwardly behind you and tugged on your sleeve.
"Want to go get something to drink?" he yelled over the booming music, you glanced at the bong longingly but decided that Armin needed you right now so you nodded in agreement.
"Sure." the two of you pushed through the crowd to the minibar where an impressive amount of liquor was waiting. You poured some Bacardi into a glass of and added some pineapple and orange concentrates before handing the cup to Armin. He thanked you and quickly got to work on finishing the mixed drink. You poured yourself a rum and coke and then two shots of Malibu for you and Armin to take. The two of you knocked back the shots before wandering back over towards the couch. The crowd had thinned out a bit, something about watching a movie in Annie's in home movie theater.
"-No that's bullshit, I know for a fact that you pissed your pants in the second grade Eren!" your eyebrows shot into your hairline at the words leaving Annie's mouth.
"Just because I'm quiet doesn't mean I don't notice shit." She huffed as she lifted the juul in her hand to her lips and took a long drag.
"I-"
"Just take the L Eren we all remember." Bertolt shook his head and chuckled at Eren's flushed cheeks. You glanced at Mikasa, usually she would defend Eren but she seemed content to let him struggle through this one on his own, still perched on his lap.
"We've all had accidents before." Armin said with an awkward chuckle as he sat down beside Annie, who looked at him with a blank expression.
"Like that time you tripped down the stairs and broke both your legs in fourth grade?" Annie quipped, a small smirk curling onto her lips. You choked on your drink at Annie's remark, she was an absolute savage.
"Exactly..." Armin flushed, lifting his own cup to his lips. Your phone buzzed in your pocket, but you were too invested in the conversation to be bothered to pick it up.
"Want a hit?" Annie offered the bong to you, you nodded. Although you'd never had weed before, you'd tried asking Levi for some of his but he always denied you. Annie held her hand out to Bertolt who placed the lighter in his open palm. She packed some more weed into the bowl before handing you the bong.
"You ever done this before?" She asked as she kneeled in front of you. You shook your head,
"Okay so I'll tell you when to inhale, and you've got to take a huge breath so you can get the smoke in your system. But then you'll have to take another breath to get it in your lungs." she instructed as she pressed the weed deeper into the bowl.
"Okay." you agreed, she nodded and struck the lighter, holding the flame over the weed in the bowl. You pressed your lips to the mouth piece and waited for her instructions.
"Inhale." she said once the weed was lit. You sucked in a big breath and the water in the bong bubbled. The smoke burned the insides of your throat as you inhaled it, you pulled the bong off your mouth and sucked in once more to get the smoke into your lungs. She nodded in approval as you coughed, smoke curling out of your mouth.
"Not bad for your first time." she commented as she took the bong from you and passed it to Mikasa who took a long drag before passing it to Bertolt.
"Thanks, that stuff burns." you coughed, Annie sat down next to you on the couch and draped her arm over the back. You felt the buzz from the weed and the shots you'd taken earlier, making your head spin a bit. Annie's thigh brushed against your own, you tried to focus on what she was wearing, a pair of grey sweats and a cute cropped peachy colored tank top with spaghetti straps.
"I like your top." you complimented, her hand fell from the back of the couch to your shoulders.
"Thanks." she said, turning to gauge your reaction to her touch. You swallowed a bit nervously, you'd known Annie since kindergarten, but you'd never really been friends before, she was always so quiet.
"I always thought you were a good kid." Annie smirked, her eyes a bit playful.
"What made you think that?" You giggled, shuffling closer to her.
"Your brother is like the school's golden boy, and you are always in all the honors classes." she shrugged, you frowned. You were used to people coming up with these assumptions. She was right though, you did take honor classes, but that didn't mean you couldn't party!
"I guess...But that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy partying." you countered.
"I suppose." she chuckled, taking a hit from her juul and blowing the smoke away from your face. Your phone rang in your pocket and you frowned, as you dug it out of your pocket. Your frown deepened at the sight of Hange's contact lighting up your screen.
"Hang on I should take this." you apologized, moving to stand up to find a quiet place to answer the phone. Annie snatched your wrist and pulled you back down on the sofa, the room spun as you fell back down and slumped against her shoulder.
"Slow down there sweetheart." Annie chuckled as you leaned against her.
"I got to go answer my-"
"Nah just stay here, enjoy yourself." Annie pulled you closer, but your head was too foggy to protest, thoughts of your phone already fading into the back of your mind as Annie held the bong to your lips once more.
__
"She's still not answering." Hange chewed on her knuckle as she glanced at Erwin who was gripping the steering wheel. His brows were knit tightly together with worry, Levi shifted in the back seat, tapping his fingers impatiently.
"This is stupid, she can wait until tomorrow to see me." Levi huffed, trying his best to sound indifferent.
"Oh don't say that Levi." Hange frowned as she looked back at Levi, her eyes deep with worry.
"Don't worry about it." Levi grunted, turning his attention back to his phone. He opened snapchat, and scrolled through the stories. His eyes widened slightly when he stopped on Sasha's story, the video of the party played, he found himself looking for your silhouette among the swaying bodies. He tapped on his screen, expecting to move on to the next story, only to find a new video, added to her story less than ten minutes ago. A video of you with a red solo cup in one hand, and a juul in the other. You were leaned up against a blonde girl who was pushing a bottle of Pink Whitney against you, the pink alcohol sloshing in the glass.
"Come on (Y/n) finish it off!" Sasha encouraged as the other kids on the couch picked up on her chant.
"Finish it, Finish it." the crowd cheered as you sat down the cup and took the bottle from the blonde. You looked at the camera as Sasha shuffled closer.
"No pa-paparazzi please." you giggled, hiccuping half way through your sentence. You lifted the bottle to your lips and tilted your head back, the liquid spilled down your front, making your skin glisten in the colorful lights as you chugged the alcohol you managed to get in your mouth.
"Fuck yeah!!!" Sasha jeered, spinning the camera around to her face. The video ended and Levi felt his blood boil. He'd never seen you so out of it before and he hated it. He hated how easily you had given into doing something so stupid, he hated the sight of the juul in your fist, he hated the way the girl's arm was tightly wrapped around your waist, but most of all he hated that he wasn't there.
"Wait, I think Sasha's snap map is on." Hange mumbled, her phone screen casting a pale glow over her glasses as she zoomed in on Sasha's bitmoji. Sure enough Sasha's bitmoji was on the map, surrounded by at least twenty other bitmojis gathered in one location.
"Okay let's head that way then." Erwin sighed as he started the car and backed out of his parking spot in the airport parking lot. Erwin pulled out of the small airport that was about thirty minutes away from your town and set off towards Annie's house. Thankfully Annie lived on the outskirts of town so it wasn't as far of a drive. It wasn't long before Erwin was pulling up a long winding drive that was full of cars. He parked at the back of the line of cars and got out of the car with a heavy slam of his door. Levi slammed the back door of the minivan as hard as he could, the two of them marched up the driveway silently with Hange following nervously.
"You guys please slow down it's icy out here." Hange begged as she slipped on one of the steps to the side door. The three of them piled into the house, Hange knew it was bad when Levi didn't bother to kick his shoes off before continuing towards the basement steps. Erwin stormed down the steps, the music getting louder as they descended. Erwin paused at the bottom of the steps to take in the scene, cups littered the floor, the room was hazy with smoke from juuls and the scent of weed clung to the air. A group of partygoers was crowded onto the couch, Levi's eyes narrowed onto the back of your head.
"Yoooo that's ice cold." Eren's loud voice could be heard over the music as the teens passed the bong between one another.
"No it's the truth." you slurred, the empty bottle of alcohol still in your fist.
"Well sorryyy that I forgot that I had gum in my mouth." Connie said, waving his hands in front of his face.
"You're an idiot." Sasha laughed boisterously as she shoved a handful of pretzels into her mouth.
"damn straight." Annie agreed, taking the empty bottle from you and setting it on the coffee table. Erwin stalked across the room and stood behind Bertolt, who was now on the floor. The conversation came to a halt at the sight of the uninvited guests.
"Woah I think I'm seeing things." you said, tilting your head downwards as you tried to understand why you were seeing your brother.
"Me too." Reiner agreed, his own distant gaze honing in on his team captain.
"Get up we're going home." Erwin's voice was cold and commanding as he glowered at you.
"I don't wanna leave." your eyes hardened with denial. Erwin stepped over Bertolt, once he had moved your eyes landed on Levi, who was glaring at you with those dark eyes.
"I'm definitely seeing things." you grunted as Erwin pulled you off the couch and away from Annie's warmth.
"Hey man she said she didn't want to go." Annie snarled, jumping to her feet, her icy blue eyes sharp.
"Yeah well she's drunk as shit and doesn't know what she's saying." Levi snapped back at Annie, who had a hand clamped down around your arm. Hange shifted nervously behind the couch as she watched the scene unfold.
"You need to leave." Annie growled, pointing a finger at the stairs.
"That's what we're trying to do dumb ass." Levi growled, taking a step closer to the circle of teens.
"Leave her alone she can make her own decisions." Reiner quipped, rising to his own feet.
"Stay out of this Braun." Erwin ordered, releasing you so he could turn and face Reiner.
"I'm just saying, she chose to come here on her own and she's enjoying herself so let her be." Reiner shrugged.
"She's had enough tonight." Erwin countered, shifting his gaze back to you as you swayed on your feet.
"No I haven't" you frowned up at Erwin.
"Yes you have. We're leaving end of discussion." he said with finality, once more reaching for your wrist.
"I'm not leaving Erwin." you protested, pulling yourself free from his grasp. He snatched your wrist once more and tugged you away from the circle. You gasped and stumbled after him, the protests of your friends echoing loudly in your head. Erwin hauled you up the stairs and out the side door, Levi and Hange close on your heels. He only slowed once you were walking down the driveway. You wrenched yourself free once more with a strangled cry.
"I said I don't want to leave!" you screamed, a few tears sliding down your cheeks.
"You always embarrass me in front of my friends just give me this one night!" you cried, the cold air making your face beet red.
"You'll thank me later." He said simply before turning to continue down the driveway.
"No I won't I'm going back inside." you turned on your heel and marched back towards the door, only for Levi to catch your wrist.
"You've had enough for one night." He scolded as you struggled against his hold. Hange chewed on her bottom lip with worry at the sight, this was not how she planned your reunion.
"Levi let me go." you said with finality as you met his eyes.
"No, you're going home." Levi's voice was tense.
"No I'm not."
"(Y/n) you're going home and that's final." Erwin sighed, running a hand down the side of his face. You spun around and glared at him.
"You're not my fucking dad Erwin so quit acting like it! Jesus it's so annoying I'm tired of it!" you screamed, your chest heaving with frustration, your breath coming out with puffs of vapor. Hange and Levi stood deathly still, knowing that the topic of your father was a sensitive one.
"Fine be that way." Erwin snarled and marched to the van and climbed in with a slam of his door. Hange rushed to get in the car without a second glance over her shoulder. Levi remained firmly rooted to the ground, his hand still wrapped firmly around your wrist as you cried.
"Get out of here Levi." you sobbed, shaking your arm to throw his hand off. He finally let you go, his head tilted down to the ground. You huffed, wrapping your arms around your chest before turning on your heel and stalking back towards the house. Levi stood there a moment longer just listening to the sound of your receding footsteps before he padded back to Erwin's car and slid into the backseat.
__
Your head was spinning as you pressed your back against the bathroom door, your lip quivering as you tried to contain your tears. You knew that you'd hurt both Erwin's and Levi's feelings, you also knew that they were only trying to help you. But there was only so much help you could except from them without them toeing the line between helpful and overbearing. You slid down the door with a whimper, you hugged you knees to your chest and rested your chin on top of them. A knock startled you out of your moping,
"(Y/n)? You in there?" You groaned when you recognize Jean's voice.
"Open the door please." He said softly and you felt more tears fall down your cheeks as you reached up for the knob to unlock the door. The lock clicked and you shuffled to lean agains the wall so he could open the door.
"Hey" he said as he stuck his head in, his amber eyes soft with worry.
"Hey" you sniffled, turning your head up to meet his gaze.
"What's wrong?" He asked, slipping into the small bathroom and closing the door behind him. He crouched down in front of you, his elbows propped on his own knees as he got onto your level.
"Well for starters, you kissed someone else when we were talking." you said a bit venomously. He cringed and plopped down to sit criss cross applesauce instead.
"I'm sorry I know that I shouldn't have done that but, I've been really confused....like sexually I guess." He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and your frowned.
"I know, but it still hurt my feelings." you mumbled, a few fresh tears falling from your watery eyes.
"I shouldn't have led you on like that, it was a real jerk move." Jean agreed, his eyes still soft and comforting. You'd missed being his friend you realized as you sat on the cold tile.
"I've missed talking to you." you spoke your mind, managing a small smile.
"Me too, let's be friends again?" he proposed, offering his hand to you. Your smile grew wider as you extended your own hand to grasp his. You shook hands briefly.
"So are you and Marco a couple now?" you asked.
"Sort of.." Jean chuckled.
"You want to go back to the party now?" He asked, jutting a thumb towards the door. You nodded, although now you were beginning to sober up. He stood and offered his hands to help you to your feet. You accepted his hands and he pulled you to your feet. The two of you walked slowly down the steps to rejoin the circle of teens in the living room. Jean stopped at the bottom of the stairs his hand held loosely in your own. He squeezed your hand, asking for your attention. You turned and faced him, a questioning look on your face.
"You've got some-" He chuckled, lifting his thumb to his mouth and licking it before wiping away some rogue mascara off your cheeks. You gasped in mock offense as he wiped away the makeup.
"You're not my mom." you teased, pulling your face free as you turned to head back into the fray, trusting that Jean got all the black marks off your face.
"Nobody could replace Angie." Jean agreed as he followed you into the basement. The group of previously rowdy teens was now subdued due to your brother and his meddling party crasher friends.
"Hey look who's back!" Reiner greeted, causing all the heads to turn back to you. You smiled sheepishly and dropped back into your seat next to Annie.
"You alright?" She asked, her eyes scanning you meticulously for any signs of injury.
"Yeah I'm- I'll be alright." you stumbled over your words as the group watched you carefully.
"You want a uh beer or something?" Connie asked, lifting up an unopened can.
"No she doesn't you idiot!" Sasha snapped, elbowing Connie harshly.
"Ow well I was just trying to make her feel better!" Connie cried, turning to tackle Sasha. The two began to tussle, rolling around on the floor grunting as they struggled. You smiled, the pair never failed to make you happy. Annie draped her arm over you again as the boys began to place bets on who would come out victorious.
"If Sasha wins you've got to drink one of Connie's mixed drinks!" Eren said, leaning over to Bertolt who scoffed, his boyish features contorting with disgust. Connie was known for making the worst mixed drinks.
"You're on Jeager." he reached over Reiner and the two shook in agreement before turning their attention to the scuffle.
"Come on Sasha!" Eren jeered as Sasha bit down hard on Connie's hand. The boy yelped and tried to desperately pry her locked jaws off his hand. He gave up quickly and resorted to hitting her head with his closed fist, his face wild with panic.
"Tickle her neck" Mikasa suggested as she lifted a red solo cup to her lips. Your eyes widened in surprise, Mikasa usually kept quiet during these scuffles, unless of course it was Eren being thrown around. Connie's free hand flew down to Sasha's armpit and immediately Sasha released his other hand to roll away from him. Connie regained the upper hand, pinning Sasha beneath him as he tickled her ruthlessly. Jean groaned and slapped a wad of bills into Reiner's open palm as Sasha slapped the ground in defeat. Connie threw his hands into the air and rolled off Sasha who was fighting for breath.
"Traitor" she moaned, her brown eyes glaring at Mikasa who shrugged indifferently. Eren groaned and frowned at Mikasa.
"Why'd you do that?" He asked as Bertolt looked relieved. Mikasa shrugged once more a sly smile on her face as Eren pushed her off his lap.
"So" Connie jumped to his feet and clapped his hands together.
"About that drink." he turned and strutted over to the mini bar, followed by a sulking Eren and a smug Bertolt. You turned to Sasha who was now straddling Mikasa her hands around Mikasa's shoulders as she jostled the girl.
"Come on Mikasa why'd you sell me out like that?" she whined as she shook the girl, Mikasa's drink sloshing in her cup. Mikasa smiled as her eyes drifted to the group of boys, Connie had a large bottle of Tito's and a two liter of Mt. Dew in his hands as he inspected the two, his face scrunched up with concentration.
"Come on Sasha it's not like you wouldn't do the same if it were me." Mikasa scoffed with a roll of her eyes. You snorted at Mikasa's response, knowing that she was indeed correct. Sasha gasped and shook Mikasa harder.
"I would never do that to you! Besides you would win in any fight you fought." Sasha objected, leaning back on Mikasa's lap her arms extended.
"Psh whatever." Annie scoffed, a playful smirk on her lips.
"Not all of us are masters at kickboxing." Sasha pouted as she climbed off Mikasa's lap and dropped onto the empty space next to her. You knew that Mikasa had participated in the sport for the past few years, but you were confused when Sasha looked between Annie and Mikasa.
"What you didn't know?" Annie asked with a smirk. You shook your head,
"No I guess I don't know." you laughed as Annie licked her lips and she threw her arm back over your shoulders.
"Mikasa and I are on the same kickboxing club." She shrugged as you settled back into her side. Your mouth opened into an 'o' shape in realization as Annie dug her juul out of her pocket and took a hit. Mikasa nodded in agreement, her eyes shifting back over to the boys, who were laughing loudly as Eren chugged a cup of mystery liquid.
"Really? I had no idea." you said as you followed Mikasa's gaze. Eren was now leaned over gagging as Armin patted his back with a worried expression.
"-You dodged a bullet there!" Reiner quipped as he patted Bertolt's back as the tall boy watched with a disgusted face.
"Hey where did Ymir and Krista run off to?" Sasha asked, whipping her head around to look for the pair.
"Probably making out in some corner." Reiner scoffed as he dropped back onto the sofa, the rest of the boys rejoining the group as well. You nodded in agreement, it was no secret that the pair had been seeing each other recently.
"Guess so." Sasha sighed, slumping back into the sofa, throwing a glare at Connie who was now seated next to her with an arm over the back of the couch. Eren and Armin were the only once unaccounted for, you assumed that they had fled to the bathroom given the state Eren had been in after drinking Connie's concoction. Jean had managed to slip away with all the commotion, probably to return to Marco. Annie sighed, glancing at her phone with a frown, it was well past three at this point and you were starting to feel the fatigue.
"Well I think that I'm heading off to bed." Annie yawned, the others seemed to be mellowing out as well.
"You guys can crash here or my brother's room is open as well as my sisters rooms." She said as she stood up. You immediately missed her warmth as she lingered by the couch.
"I call Eric's room!" Sasha perked up, also standing up to run towards Annie's younger brother's room.
"No fair!" Connie yelled, giving chase. Mikasa sighed and stood up as well.
"I'd better go check on Eren and Armin." She mumbled as she stalked off towards the bathroom.
"Are you staying the night then?" Annie asked you as you also stood up, not sure if you should go after Mikasa.
"I'm not sure, Mikasa was going to take me back to her place..."
"You can sleep in my room with me." She offered, tilting her head towards the stairs. You bit your lip as you weighed your options. Mikasa had been drinking and smoking and you knew that she wasn't stupid enough to drive so you figured that you weren't leaving any more.
"We'll sleep in Sarah's room." Reiner said as he and Bertolt began to retreat up the stairs. Leaving just you and Annie in the basement living room, she raised a brow as she waited for your answer.
"No pressure." She said as she began to walk towards the stairs.
"Yeah I'll sleep with you." you blurted as you jogged to catch up to Annie. She smirked at your wording and you flushed.
"Not like that!" you slapped her arm as she led the way up to the top floor which was a maze of closed doors. She slipped into one of the closed doors, into a large bedroom with a queen sized bed in the center of the room. She emptied her pockets before climbing into bed, pulling the covers back for the both of you. You slid into the open side and sat your phone on the bedside table. Annie sighed with relief as she nestled into the covers, scrolling through her phone as you closed your eyes in an attempt to sleep. After a few minutes Annie put her phone down and rolled over, now her front was facing your back.
"You awake?" She whispered, you rolled over to face her as well.
"Yeah" you answered, resting your head on your arm as you focused on her features as best as you could in the dim lighting.
"You wanna make out?" she asked, your eyes widened in shock. You weren't sure if she was being serious or not.
"For real?" you blinked rapidly as Annie shuffled closer and pushed a lock of hair out of your face.
"I mean yeah." she huffed a shy smile on her face. You pursed your lips in thought, you had never kissed a girl before, and it wasn't like the thought of doing so had never crossed your mind. You shrugged and leaned slightly into her touch.
"Yes or no." She said as she propped herself up on her elbow so she was looking down on you.
"Sure." you agreed, she leaned down as soon as the words left your lips. Her lips were so soft compared to the boys that you'd kissed in the past. Her hand that had been in your hair now traced over your cheek bones as she licked your bottom lip. You opened your mouth for her to slip her tongue in, the taste of weed and pink whitney mingling on her breath. You met her tongue a bit timidly as she licked your bottom teeth. She pulled back after a moment to readjust herself so that she was now laying down on top of you, caging you in her arms as she leaned down to kiss your chin.
"You're so cute." she mused, her lips pressed against the corner of your mouth.
"You're really pretty" you breathed as her lips hovered over your own once more before connecting her lips with yours once more.

Valentine prompts with matenrou and mad trigger crew number 8? 👀
ok so I kinda went ham with this one??? I got a lot of MTC requests so I think I’m gonna do those in their own special post but... phew these MTR ones started as hc lists and then I got possessed by the writing gods and made drabbles.... long post incoming!!!!
Jakurai [ 神宮寺寂雷 ]: In your previous years, you hadn’t done anything notable for Valentine's Day. It wasn’t that you didn’t have anyone, moreover that you and your partner were always busy. However, this year you made an effort to plan something for you and your boyfriend. Sure, maybe it was a little much, you weren’t school children, but someone had to uphold the chocolate-making tradition, right? You begged your boss to let you have the day before and the day of Valentine’s off. It was a tough battle, but you managed to make it out with two days off under your belt! Jakurai however, wasn’t as lucky. Working in a hospital didn’t permit many days off. You got them when you got them, purely by chance if at all. He, unfortunately, had to work that morning, but you weren’t saddened in the slightest. In fact, you were grateful for his calling duties for it gave you more time to craft your surprise for that evening. You somehow managed to sneakily make chocolates the night before, and even more miraculously hide them in the fridge. You tied your hair up and ran to the kitchen as soon as you heard the door close behind Jakurai and his car pull out of the driveway. He was worried that you would be saddened by the fact that he had to work on Valentine’s, but he truly had no idea what was in store upon his return home. Jakurai picked up a bouquet of flowers on his way home that evening, hoping that even the small gesture would bring a smile to his beloved's face. You grinned as you saw your boyfriend’s car pull into the driveway that evening, checking the living room one last time for any crooked corners. On your way to the door, you dimmed the lights and let the candles take center stage, giggling at your reflection as you checked your hair in the mirror. Your eyes widened as you opened the door and were met by not only your dashing boyfriend but a bouquet of flowers as well.  “Jakurai… what is this?” You blushed as he offered you the bouquet and stepped inside. “Well, it’s Valentine's day and you worked hard to get the day off and I had to go in,” He explained as he removed his coat, “I felt that I should at least do something for you,” the doctor leaned in to give you a kiss. “Why are the lights out?”  “Oh! Well, it is Valentine’s Day after all!” You said with a wide smile, reaching out and taking Jakurai’s hand, pulling him towards the living room. “I took advantage of you being at work and put something together~” “Y/n… you didn’t have to,” Jakurai’s ears burned red, taking in the scene in front of him. On the living room table, you had prepared and spread out a nice dinner for the two of you, covered in candlelight. A bouquet of roses stood in a crystal vase surrounded by homemade chocolates. You walked over to the mantle and turned on the radio, soft jazz music dancing around the room.  “No, I didn’t have to, but I wanted to! You do so much for me, it’s the least I could do,” You returned to your boyfriend’s side, hugging his arm. “Happy Valentine’s Day, baby.”  The doctor wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you in for a kiss, “You make me so happy, y/n. Happy Valentine’s Day, I love you.”
Hifumi [ 伊弉冉 一二三 ]: It didn’t take much to make you jealous. Especially with your boyfriend being one of the top hosts in Shinjuku, envy seemed to come… naturally. Hifumi always assured you that he never did anything more than share a few drinks and maybe a kiss on the cheek with any of his patrons, and you believed him, you did, but that didn’t always stop your mind from wandering. The two of you had talked through his work and what that meant for the two of you countless times, what boundaries each of you had and what you were comfortable with. The waters always became testy around Valentine’s Day. Hifumi would come home with bags full of cards, sweets, bottles of alcohol, and some other… strange things the days leading up to Valentine’s. What were you to do for that special day if every woman and man in Shinjuku had already given Hifumi gifts more luxurious than you could fathom? Your boyfriend wasn’t stupid, he could tell something was up. Moreover, Hifumi knew what this was about. He knew dating a host was hard, and it was even harder over the love-focused holiday. So, he decided that for the first time in his host life, he would call in on Valentine’s. Before heading home from his division meeting with Jakurai and Doppo, he stopped by the small jewelry shop he knew you loved. The host had placed an order earlier in the week, the store clerk was in awe that the number one host in Shinjuku would purchase such a piece. Hifumi only blushed and insisted that there was more to his life than being a host, and there was only one exclusive patron of this high rank. The jeweler wished him well as Hifumi exited the shop with a small, velvet box. When he returned home, Hifumi walked around the apartment for you.  “Y/n?” He knocked on the bedroom door, pushing it open slowly. He frowned as he saw your sleeping figure huddled up in a cocoon of blankets. “Y/n, kitten, are you awake?” Hifumi placed a hand on your shoulder as he sat on the bed. “I thought you would be at work tonight…” you said, turning around and facing him.  He brushed your bangs from your face and leaned down to kiss your forehead. “Well, I was supposed to but, I figured I’ve spent too many Valentine’s Days without you.”  “Your boss must be cross with you,” you said as you sat up and leaned your head on his shoulder.  “Meh, he can deal with it, I need to spend time with my true Valentine after all!” Hifumi’s voice quickly switched to his normal, joyful tone. “Nee, y/n, can I ask you something?” “Hmm? Sure ‘Fumi, what is it?” “I Uhm, well,” His cheeks blossomed with pink, “Well you see uh, I… You make me so happy and I wanted to get you something to show that… also uhm! I know dating a host can be hard and all so I wanted there to be something you can always have to remind you that you’re the only one for me!” Hifumi smiled brightly, reaching into his pocket for the box. “This isn’t the ideal way I planned to do this, but it was a spontaneous thought, to do it tonight. I was gonna wait and take you somewhere real fancy but…” You had tears in your eyes already, slowly realizing what was happening. “Hifumi, baby, it's ok I… are you?”  Hifumi nodded and grabbed your left hand, kissing your knuckles and holding your hand by his face, “Y/n, will you marry me?” “Yes.”
Doppo [ 観音坂 独歩 ]: You hummed happily in front of the stove, soft music softly bumping from your phone. It was early morning and you miraculously managed to wake up early, earlier than your boyfriend too. Today was Valentine’s Day, so the only logical solution to your blessed coincidence was to make your special someone breakfast. You were hoping that you could surprise him with the meal in bed but… you didn’t hold your hopes too high. Doppo always got up painfully early to go to work on weekdays, and just because it was the weekend didn’t mean that the routine would be broken. It was a gamble to try and prepare something to surprise him before he woke up. You glanced briefly at your phone to check the timer you had going for the bacon in the oven, smiling as it seemed that you had just about half an hour left before your tired salaryman rolled out of bed. Alas, you spoke too soon as a pair of warm arms found their way around your waist and a chin sitting on your shoulder.  Doppo hummed and pressed a kiss to your cheek, “Good morning…” he yawned, not making any apparent moves to let go of your waist. “Ahh, Doppo! I was so close! You should have stayed in bed for another twenty minutes!” You pouted, craning your neck to face him. “Good morning to you too,” you allowed yourself to chuckle. “Someone’s affectionate this morning,” your chuckles turned into giggles as your boyfriend peppered kisses on your neck up to your cheeks. “Rest well?” “Mmhm,” the salaryman hummed in agreement, pausing his storm of kisses to peek over your shoulder. “What’re you making?”  You shook your head and smiled, “Well, it was going to be a surprise if someone didn’t get out of bed early!” you clicked your tongue, “I wanted to make you breakfast for Valentine’s Day, surprise you with it if I could… I thought I was doing well with the time too…” Doppo chuckled and kissed the back of your neck, “Hmm, I guess I could go lay down then? Let you finish in here?” “That would be lovely, baby,” you turned around to face him in his embrace and pecked his lips. “It’ll only be about…” you paused to check the time, “ten more minutes! Don’t get too cozy in there, ok?” The man in front of you smiled softly before catching your lips in another kiss. “I’ll try my best, sunshine.” Your cheeks burned red at the pet name, even though you’d been referred to as such many times before. With Doppo now out of the kitchen, you pulled your goodies out of the oven and put a pot of tea on to boil. You continued humming to yourself as you quickly whipped together a batch of pancake mix, spooning the batter in heart shapes in the pan. Once the pancakes were done and you had everything nicely plated, you grinned excitedly as you walked up the stairs to the bedroom, trays in hand. It may not be the ideal surprise you had envisioned, but you were still thrilled. You pushed the door open with your foot and giggled as you approached the bed, noticing that your boyfriend had dozed off.  “Pssst, Doppochi, I thought I told you not to get too comfy,” You placed the trays down and poked his cheek.  “Mm?” he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, “Oh, sorry…” You laughed, “No, no, it’s ok, you need your rest after all! Look! I made us breakfast~” Doppo smiled wide and kissed your cheek “You make me so happy, you know that?”

Your grandmother threw open her front door, hair in curlers to match her fuzzy pink slippers. Her face brightened at the sight of you, yet once her eyes fell to Asa it was like you were last year's ham. She nearly hooted in excitement before throwing her arms around him and dragging him inside, Asa’s face furrowing as he looked back at you. You smirked slightly, hanging your jacket on the already full coat tree by the door and kicking off your shoes before meandering through her gigantic house in search of your boyfriend. There were various cousins sprawled out around her living room and hanging out of the archway to the kitchen while watching whatever sport was on TV.
You furrowed your brows at the group and half of them pointed down the hallway where a round of hollering and an old crackly radio was sounding off. You nodded and moved in the direction they sent you, turning a few corners before going through the sliding glass door in the back, spotting Asa being shown off to several of your uncles from different generations and your older cousins by your small grandmother. You sighed, coming out from behind them and capturing the attention of the group who greeted you with smiles and a few pinches on the arm. The stereotypical conversation questions were thrown around briefly: How is school? How’s the job? Are you hungry?
Some of the guys were talking to Asa and shaking his hand a ridiculous amount until you finally had enough. “Oma, maybe you should go get ready?” You suggested, finally taking hold of Asa’s arm to pull him from her grasp. She inhaled sharply as if forgetting she was walking around in a housecoat while her guests continued to fill her house. You were sure Asa would already be overwhelmed, him being whisked off was not what you had expected, but he remained smiling, talking to whoever started conversations with him. You couldn’t really believe it but Asa was prospering.
Before you knew it, the two of you were sat beside each other at a long table of most of your cousins, separate from the massive group of adults, passing food amongst yourself and talking over the polka music that seemed to always be playing from the radio in the living room. You leaned over to Asa as he passed you a basket of rolls. “Are you all right?” You whispered, passing the food again.
He smiled at you slightly, his icy blue eyes seemingly lighting up even more. “Never better. Relax, okay?” He mumbled, sending you a wink. You hadn’t realized how tensed up you were as you dropped your shoulders at his words. If you weren’t surrounded by family members, you would have kissed him. The meal went on without ripples, listening to how people were doing in school and sitting through several of the members of the family closer to your age tell embarrassing stories about yourself to Asa like it had happened last week, not when you were three and still wearing Garanimals.
“You’re Asa, right?” One of your middle school aged cousins asked from across the table. She put her chin in her hand, her makeup more intricate than you ever could master. He shook his head hesitantly. “You’re probably so good you don’t use protection. Am I right?” Her almost seductive glance and question made you choke on your water and Asa’s mouth dropped open a bit as the man beside her cackled heavily.
“Oh, my God,” you breathed. “You can’t say that,” you hissed and she shrugged.
Her eyes trailed him from across the table. “I don’t hear a ‘no’.”
You groaned, telling Asa to ignore her through gritted teeth. “You should always use protection,” he answered instead, attempting to hold back his own laugh as you kicked him under the table, sending the man next to her into even greater fits of laughter.
“Are you staying at oma’s tonight?” Another asked, thankfully one that hadn’t heard the previous topic.
You chewed on the inside of your cheek, debating if it was too late to get a hotel. “No, I haven’t drawn a card yet…” You mumbled, trying not to alert Asa beside you.
Your actions were for nothing as he piped up. “What is drawing a card?”
At his question, several of the cousins attempted to answer at once, urging you to let him be the one to draw this time and you shook your head. “My grandmother has a deck of cards that have locations written on them and whenever there’s a family gathering, you draw a card to figure out where you’re staying. It’s because my dad’s generation all fought over who was staying with Uncle Mike,” you answered, closer to his ear to combat the several voices. “But we should just get a hotel room-”
“That’s breaking the rules and you know it!” Another cousin yelled, pointing his fork at you.
You shook your head. “You’re a grown ass man and you still want a shot at staying with Uncle Mike?” You almost snapped, making him shrug.
“You’re just pissed because you never get it!” He snapped back.
You shook your head almost dramatically. “What if I didn’t want to stay with Uncle Mike?”
“Liar!”
“I like staying with oma!”
He sent you a sarcastic smile as if to call your bullshit. “Fine then, we’re taking bets on who has to sleep in the tent.”
You had almost forgotten Asa was there until he piped up. “I have ten on you then,” he quipped and your heart slightly fluttered at him as your cousin pointed to him, leaning over the table aggressively to shake Asa’s hand as the other cousins began saying it was other people. One got up to grab an old pad of paper to take down the bets and you pinched the bridge of your nose between your index finger and thumb. Asa was loving every minute of this.
After dinner, half of your great uncles were passed out on the couch and your grandmother was shuffling her beat up deck of cards, long past the date it should have been retired. Your heart began to beat slightly, the adrenaline rushing through you as you thought about the bets that were made and the possibility of having to sleep outdoors. You sat on the couch, watching closely as the deck was brought around, shuffled and fanned out for each of the kids. Meanwhile Asa leaned his elbows on his knees, playing Cat’s Cradle with one of your younger cousins. Your leg rested against his as you focused on the cards, maybe it wasn’t the chance that you would have to sleep in a beat up old tent, but rather the rush of competition. So far, most of the spaces in the upper level of your grandma’s house had been taken as well as the spots in your cousin’s. Uncle Mike’s had yet to be completely claimed and the tent still hung in the air.
The deck came towards you, your grandmother swooping down slightly for the cousin that was entranced by the string game. She drew a card: the top bunk of one of many stacked beds at Uncle Mike’s. Her older brother cheered, knowing that you now had an even bigger chance of getting the tent. The deck was offered to Asa, your grandmother raising an eyebrow. “No, I don’t trust him,” you quickly stated, ignoring his sarcastically hurt expression. The deck was turned to you. “I love you, but you have some of the worst luck.” Your mind raced at what was left and then you realized that Asa would be sleeping with you. Then you prayed to whatever higher being could help you to not give you an upper floor. “We have a lot riding on this,” you muttered as she fanned the cards for you. You drew your card, quickly turning it over and snapping it around towards your cousins who all groaned at the fluent, swirling writing your grandma was known for.
“Are you kidding!”
“How?”
“Fuck! I could have bought a ton of M&M’s with that money.”
Your grandma whipped around to the last cousin to speak, yanking on his ear quickly and hissing, “Halt deinen Mund!” He put his hands up in defense looking at her with wide eyes and you smirked.
“Yeah, Halt deinen Mund,” you mocked and she snapped her fingers at you, making you close your mouth quickly before she moved on. You all broke out into a fit of giggles silently, relieved that no one had the tent yet. The one who made the bet with Asa was who you hoped would get it, in all honesty. You finally let out a breath, relaxing completely.
You snuggled into your seat, crossing your legs and throwing an arm around the section of the back of the couch where Asa was sitting. He leaned back, tucking under your arm slightly, raising an eyebrow in your direction. “And where did we get?”
You handed him the card. “Oma’s back basement room. There’s a waterbed, but other than that, it’s a win.”
He chuckled, flipping the card between his long fingers. “That could be fun,” he whispered slightly and you pushed his face away with your hand as he laughed. As the party died down enough that people were heading to their designated spots or out back to set piles of leaves on fire, you and Asa grabbed your bags and headed through the maze of a house to your room for the night and possibly the next. It really depended on how much Asa could actually take of your family.
Your room was just off the retro bar that was always used around the winter holidays. You thanked whoever was looking out for you up above as you threw your bags down on one of the dated couches and peaked into the newly renovated bathroom. “So, how are you feeling?” You asked, putting your hands on your hips as he slipped his sweater over his head and readjusting his t-shirt.
“I’m exhausted,” he stated, biting back a wide grin before plopping down into the middle of the bed, it sloshed around under his movements and he giggled slightly before laying back. You perked an eyebrow. “I’m ready. Fuck me on a waterbed,” he jeered, smirking up at you.
He tucked his arms beneath his head, and you sent him a tilted expression. “You are so strange.”
