Tumblr media
i love these tags this person is so right
actually, can you imagine if dave was raised by B1 roxy?
i wanna get into this actually
(ok i had to spend a few hours rewriting this because IT DIDNT FUCKING SAVE AFTER FIVE HOURS OF WRITING WHEN MY COMPUTER UPDATED WHILE I WAS AFK so it would mean a lot to show this post some appreciation. i LOVEEE hearing what other people have to say)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
even though these things mom does are presented in an extravagant, kitsch, jokey way, her intentions always came from a place of sincerity. she is simply Funnie
Tumblr media
but rose reads too far into it and assumes things that aren't there, that her mother is passive-aggressively feigning interest in rose's interests simply because the things she does are so extra. "why do all of this if not to mock me"
Tumblr media
im telling you right now if dave lived in this household he wouldn't assume antagonism, he'd go,
Tumblr media
don’t forget who LITERALLY patented tangible jpeg artifacts as their post-scratch adult self and scattered shitty scummed up statue of liberties all over the planet. theres no way some of that overboard artful shit wasnt post-ironic / circling back around to genuine funny sincerity
dave's natural state is funny sincerity like roxy. he's had the natural capacity for this type of humor from the start and this is the direction he goes towards when he grows out of his brother's shadow by the end of the comic. dave and roxy share an earnest “so bad its good” type of humor
(lots more under the cut; the length of this meta analysis just got unwieldly with all the pictures and whatnot)
despite the alcoholism, roxy is a supportive mother. she's not the ideal guardian but hells of a lot more supportive of her kid than bro is. if she knew dave's interests she would totally indulge in them with some over the top silly goofy haha shit as a genuine gesture simply because she loves him
Tumblr media
rose isn't too keen on it though. but she is more similar to dirk in her natural state of thinking of overthinking shit and assuming the worst, like the tags said
and yes dave got the sweet cuddly yet sometimes backhanded ouppy gene from roxy, probably even moreso lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
roxy's even said rose "sounds like girl dirk"
Tumblr media
side tangent here, but this is something i wanna talk about.
i dont think bro should ever be in custody of children ever but if theres anyone who would be up to the task it's rose probably. i know she'd be able to keep up with him. not only does she have a defined personality (dave is more malleable and absorbs his environment like a sponge), if anyone can pick apart B1 dirk's batshit brain and probably be right on the money it's her. lil cal has been pumping patriarchal nonsense into bro's head and rose would be able to bring the fucking facts to the table without losing her own and being a living example of a badass little girl. i also don't think bro would try to force masculine roles onto rose like he did with dave, seeing as she is a girl, so she would actually have more of a leg up and get some passes that dave was never afforded. and rose wouldn't stand idly and accept any bullshit; she is no doormat. and i think this would earn bro's respect
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but anyway, from this, couldn't we conclude roxy "sounds like girl dave"?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah okay. we havent even gotten into their penchant for funny typos or misspeaks, deliberate or otherwise
so, dave's environment
Tumblr media
the sentiment "god you hope you can be as good as your bro at this some day" might have been genuine at the time when he idolized bro but of course he's not able to express that in any sort of sincere fashion because he's in dirk's fucking household. and this level 10 irony shit isnt doing dave any favors
his role models were the Internet and a vague idea of what Bro was like. So he built up his facade based on irony–not the literary definition of irony, as Rose might be quick to point out, but a popular concept of irony based on the idea that things that didn’t make sense actually made sense in some roundabout way. As a master of irony, Dave probably reasoned, he could see in a way other people couldn’t why a world that was scary and didn’t make sense really did make sense, and could therefore convince those people that he was superior to them. And he would wield his knowledge to maintain the appearance of superiority by calling everything ironic and pretending he didn’t care about things that didn’t make sense, and he would use walls of vaguely rhyming words to keep everyone at arm’s length so they wouldn’t discover his insecurities (source)
roxy's style is the embodiment of post-irony. being raised by mom lalonde would be like being raised by joel vinesauce ok
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
what can i say ….. (getting meta about this actually, hussie got these jpeg wizard wallpapers from a spyware website. link takes some time to load because internet archive)
rose is quick to read post-irony as actually being a joke/insincere, which in bro's case would be true. but i believe dave's natural instinct, outside of the influence of bro, is to read post-irony as genuine, which is exactly how mom serves it. we see this as early as act 3 from him; he understands her motives better than rose does herself:
Tumblr media
and in act 6 intermission 2 i think it's pretty clear
Tumblr media
but the thing is, it's always genuine from her. dave wouldn't have to second guess it because he's not one to naturally second guess someone's sincerity; that was learned due to his bro being virtually unassailable
there two types of ironies at play here:
seems like a joke, is actually genuine (roxy)
doesnt seem like a joke, is actually a joke (dirk)
you can make the argument that the second is is more psychologically destructive because it makes you question the reality of what is genuine sentiment and what isn't. dave never knew what was genuine and what was irony so he just sort of existed in this sincerity-ironic limbo and always did the opposite of what he genuinely felt on principle even if it always did originate from a genuine place.
"it just a joke bro i was just being ironic i dont actually x" is so much more trust-breaking and psychologically damaging than "wait are you being serious" / "i am being so fucking fr rn davy gravy" / "ok thats actually pretty fucking awesome. giant ass wizard statue" / "RIGHT"
how much about dave would change do you think? his character arc would be completely different for one thing, i think he'd have it good aside from mom's alcohol issues. he'd be left with the sweet and funny parts of him that we see at the end of the comic. the fake coolguy stuff is out, but this remains. this is dave in his element and we see it as early as act 1
Tumblr media
he'd probably have no shades growing up in the lalonde residence* either cause those were given to him by bro straight out of the crater as an extension of his own cool image. and john gave dave ben stiller’s aviators for his 13th birthday to replace them so he could “spread his wings”
Tumblr media
dave said he was wearing them for the ironies but i kind of doubt it. maybe post-irony but there was some reacharound to it being genuine because dave never put those pointy anime shades on his face again.
*though... it’s kind of hard to imagine him without his shades at all? B2 dave still got stiller’s shades from stiller himself so maybe getting them is a universal constant. i can imagine mom getting him them as a birthday gift cause shes pretty wealthy and probably could buy it out in an auction. but also itd be cool if john still gave him it as a gift
dave is actually a lot more genuine and easy to read than he lets on even when grappling with his upbringing with B1 dirk (again, see this post). this can be seen all throughout he comic but a good example is the evolution of thoughts about his interest in the preserved dead things in his room:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if B1 roxy was dave's guardian he probably WOULD have pursued paleontology because she wouldve indulged him in it and probably find it cool and worthwhile to pursue, instead of allowing dave to flounder under ironic detachment, being poisoned by irony to the point of gaslighting himself into believing he doesnt actually believe he thinks this shit is cool. even if it was indulged in this such a way; a superficially kitsch and ironic appearing presentation, it comes from a genuine place and inspires genuine interest. just read the comments.
basically, i think if B1 roxy raised dave, their relationship would have a surface level appearance of being bizarre or over-the-top but they’d have an unsaid mutual understanding that it’s completely in earnest and just build on each other's funny and absurd gestures of affection. rather than seeing it as one-upping each other, it'd more like collaboration of some silly bullshit that you take a step back and look at full and just say, "fucking incredible"
speaking of paleontology, mom had the proto-ectobiology lab. maybe they'd be able to use the equipment to appearify paradox ghost imprints of the dead shit to create paradox clones of things from the cambrian era??? sounds like a fun mother son bonding activity. and theyd actually put the sciencey shit in the household to use
oh god i know exactly the kinds of music shed listen too also growing up as a teen in the 80s. she on that (post)-punk/art rock/new wave/new romantic mtv stuff. XTC shit fr. this is a B-52S HOUSEHOLD. maybe the associates for the campy melodramatic flair. so he gets to keep the record on his shirt cause he is an enjoyer of the shit in her vinyl collection. dave would still gravitate towards musical expression and music itself but of more variety outside of just rap, with an 80s-90s, even 70s flavor due to mom’s influence. see this for perhaps a glimpse. she probably visited new york city a lot for business trips and because the music scene was cool as hell around that time, imports came straight from jfk airport, she probably got in on that a bit and have remnants in the form of vinyls and cassettes. in this way she could be distributing void to dave (influencing him with forgotten / presently irrelevant music). now he can REALLY rave about bands none of his friends have heard of. “hey davy grvay watcha listenin to” (he holds up vinyl cover) “omg snakefinger”
btw dave lalonde would look like this to me

A Warm Embrace
Hazbin Hotel Lucifer x gn!Reader
———————————————————————
Tumblr media
“Recently Lucifer has seeming more depressed than usual, constantly putting himself down, shutting himself off from everyone, and locking himself in his office for hours at a time, whenever he comes out he’s distant and moody, so you go and try to comfort him.”
Tags: Fluff, slight angst, Lucifer being sad, comfort
This was an anonymous request, if anything is wrong feel free to request again, but I hope I did well! I’m not the best at writing fluff but I tried.
———————————————————————
It was a normal afternoon at Lucifer’s castle, yet Lucifer was not out like he usually was. He has been really down and depressed lately, only leaving his office for meals, and during them he just picks at it and is silent. If you try to get him to come out he will just make excuses.
“Sorry I just have a lot to do.. like make..ducks and, paperwork…” He would say.
So you decided that enough was enough, and you would help him through this episode. You made him some warm lavender tea, some apple slices with honey, and an assortment of fruits.
You hum on your way to office, knocking and opening the door, stepping inside, you see your partner hunched over the desk, papers and rubber ducks scattered all around. His eyes are half-lidded, and bloodshot. His hair is a mess, knotted and messy, stands infront of his face. Hes wearing a random white t-shirt he found, stained with paint and dirt. He’s working on a duck, a pile on the floor next to him. He seems to not have heard you come in so you clear your throat.
He looks up from the duck he was working on. “O-oh hello darling, sorry I didn’t notice you came in, I was uh…” He glances at the duck. “…working.”
You walk up to his desk, setting his plate on it. “Yes, I can… see that..”You say, glancing at all of the ducks strewn across the room
“Oh- oh oh! Look what I made!” He says, picking up the duck he was working on proudly. “Presentinggg, the magictastical backflip ping rubber duck! That spits fire!” He says, in a showman type voice, smiling.
“That’s very nice honey…” You say, petting his hair.
He pauses for a second, and his face drops. “Who am I kidding this sucks!” He says, throwing it across the room with a sigh and looking down.
You look at him sadly, going behind him. “My love, I’ve noticed that you have been really on edge recently, you seem really depressed, and stressed..why don’t we take a break?” You say, rubbing his shoulders.
He looks at you with a fake confused expression, and lets out a fake laugh. “Haha! Me? Depressed? N-no way, I’m perfectly fine! I’m not stressed at all, I’m just uh… a little hyper that’s all! I’m okay!” He says, another fake laugh, obviously not okay.
“Darling we have been married for years now. I can tell your really worked up right now, why don’t we take a break and talk about it?” You say, going and sitting in his lap, resting your hands on his face, your thumb rubbing his face comfortingly.
He pushes his face against your hand, and looks down. “I… guess I have been a.. tad bit stressed recently…” He murmurs, still not used to people caring.
You give him a smile, and run your fingers through his hair and rub his back soothingly. This seems to calm him, as he leans against your chest and closes his eyes. You hum softly, continuing to comfort him.
After a couple moments you hear him mutter something unintelligible into your shirt. “Hm? What was that hon?” You ask.
He turns his head still leaning on your chest, before hesitating. “T…thank you for staying with me and caring for me…”He murmurs.. cheeks a bit red, obviously a bit embarrassed by his vulnerability.
You smile and give him a kiss. “Of course love, now why don’t we go take a bath, no offense but you kind of stink.” He laughs, his cheeks going redder. “Yeah I think that’s a good idea.”
———————————————————————
My first ever request done! I hope it was up to standards, I’m not very good at writing comfort, hope you enjoyed!

Secret: cbf!soap x f!reader
Johnny was grabbing the items out of his locker and packing up his backpack to meet you after school when his locker was slammed shut.
“Holly.” He gave her a sharp glance and she smiled.
Holly was part of The Mean Girls, the one who had stolen your bunny all those years ago, the one he called a daft cow and had no interest in even if she seemed to be interested in him.
Usually Jonny just ignored her, unless she was bullying you then he was stepping in to tell her to go away as politely as possible.
“Who are you going to prom with?” She wondered and he raised an eyebrow.
“You know who.” He scoffed and opened his locker again.
“Really? I thought you both were on the rocks.”
Johnny paused, his heart sinking and his stomach twisting up in knots. He didn’t think there was anything going on between the two of you but maybe he was wrong.
“What’re you talking about?”
“You two have been acting different around each other for a while now.”
He stared at her with confusion. There was nothing different between the two of you, nothing! You two still hung out all the time, still joked around and laughed…yeah maybe he stopped telling you about some of the serious stuff that goes on in his mind but that didn’t mean anything.
Did it?
“Look, we’re not friends but even I can tell that whatever’s going on between you has you a lot more quiet than usual.” She explained and he clenched his jaw. “Whatever’s going on she’s got you acting different.”
“Nothings going on…” he trailed and before he could stop the words were falling out his mouth. “I’m going into the military and she doesn’t like it.”
“Wait, you’re actually going?”
Johnny froze and swallowed hard.
He hadn’t told anyone, not even his own mother, that he had been accepted into the military. In just a month he’d be going into the military and starting his career.
He was going to tell you. He was just going to sit later rather than sooner. He had to come up with a way to tell you and to prepare himself for when you’d be disappointed.
And now he told Holly, the girl who had it out for you since fucking kindergarten.
“It doesn’t matter.” He slammed his locked and gave her a stern look. “Don’t tell her anything about this.”
“You know I wouldn’t be upset with for going into the military.”
Johnny felt disgust but said nothing as he walked away from her. He didn’t want to be with anyone else, he couldn’t imagine himself with anyone but you.
You were the only one he wanted, you were the only one he could imagine a life with in the future, despite your disapproval.
Maybe that’s why he put off telling you, he so badly wanted your support on his decision because it was the only thing that truly mattered to him. But it was hard to ask for it when he could hardly support you decisions, or lack thereof, for your future.
You didn’t have a plan, he knew you didn’t. For some reason it irritated him to no end because why didn’t you have a plan? Shoudlnt you want to have something to follow?
A bad part of his brain thought that you didn’t have one because you were hoping he’d give up on the military so you could follow him wherever he went. It was irrational but that’s what it looked like to him.
He was so caught up in his thoughts he nearly didn’t hear you call his name.
“Hey, you okay?” You wondered with concern.
You were always so good at reading him and he always had trouble hiding things from you.
Tell her, he demanded in his mind. Tell her now.
“I’m exhausted.” He smiled and let out a long, exaggerated sigh. “We should take a nap when we get to your place.”
You smiled and his chest hurt. He was going to miss that.
He was going to miss you.
“I’m glad you suggested it because I would’ve too.”
A/n: rewrote this three times HAHA love that for me

Genuine question: what's the point of writing fanfic? As in, what's the purpose? No one in the fandom I'm in comments on fics and I even got told off by one person for doing so, as it "encourages bad writers and makes them think they're good". So it seems that it's a lot like book writing, where people work hard and are creative, but instead of getting paid and getting comments on the work, you just sit there silently hoping someone will press the kudos button and make a number go up. I feel like that time and work could be better spent on making something you might get some kind of profit off of. Don't get me wrong, I love doodling fanart, but I don't post it, as I'm aware that there's no point to doing so, and while it's a nice way to fill the time on a commute, it's not something that takes me as much time and effort as fanfic does. So... why do people bother? Sometimes I describe ideas I have and people I know in my fandom will tell me I should write it, but I don't see why. I get more interaction from just saying "imagine if [thing here]" than I would by sitting down, writing for hours, editing and posting [thing here], so what would the point be? I'm not punching down or going "haha women and their fanfic lol!", I genuinely do not get what the point is and this blog feels like it might have someone reading who knows the answer.

Do you make art for profit? Genuine question.
There's nothing inherently wrong with being motivated primarily by external factors, but it's not actually why a lot of people create things, whether it's books or recipes or doodles in a notepad.
I enjoy the actual process of writing.
I think many people lose sight of that aspect in an era where tons of <500-word fics that are mostly outlines and "Imagine if..." posts get disproportionate attention for being easy to consume. But the satisfaction of doing a bigger art piece and doing it right is real and motivates a hell of a lot of creation.
I suppose you might be thinking "Okay, but why not just write it alone and never post?", but I like sharing. Showing off my finished creation is part of the joy, and sharing with other people like me is too. But those aren't quite the same thing as worrying about kudos. It's like dressing nicely when you leave the house because you feel great when you know you look good vs. needing another person to tell you you look good.
To be honest, though, this type of feeling has grown in me the better I've gotten at a craft. The closer my finished projects get to the vision in my head, the easier it is to find them fulfilling and to be excited to share them. When I fall short of my own ambitions, it's discouraging no matter how much attention I might get from others.
I feel like it's time for my regular reblog of Adam Westbrook's video essay series The Long Game.
vimeo
vimeo
youtube
The third and least known in the series is all about this idea of who you're making art for if you're not getting material rewards in the short term. It talks a lot about autotelicity—being internally driven instead of externally.
--
But if you really just want clicks, anon, start a blog that accepts anon asks and posts about wanky stuff. Actually tag things, unlike me, so people can find you.
No, writing for attention isn't worth it.
The time investment is too great and your brain will always fixate on the times people didn't respond instead of the times they did.
But that's not actually why most people write.

Tumblr media
It’s not that you hated your mother, you just preferred your father over her. Your mother was pretty young when she had you (teen pregnancy, she was 16), so she was pretty immature as you got older. Your father was only two years older than your mother, but he was so much more mature than your mother, hence why you preferred him.
So, when your father ran away from home when you were 15, you were stuck with your pretty immature mother. You had no idea where your biological father went, so it’s not like you could have gone and stayed with him. No matter— you just had to deal with your mother for another three years, and then you would be able to get out of her house and never have to live with her after. Again, it’s not that you hated her, but you seriously couldn’t deal with her bullshit on a daily basis.
When you turned 16, though, your mother got remarried. So, at the age of 32, your mother married a different man, Yunho. But this man was barely a man. He was 10 years younger than your mother, which weirded you out a lot because you were closer to his age than he was to your mother’s age. So fucking weird. You hated it. Your mother knew him for a year before she locked him down, which meant he was just 21 when she first met him. You lost a lot of respect for your mother the day she married him.
Yunho, your stepfather, moved into your house. If only you were 18, then you wouldn’t have to live with the weird dynamic of your family, but you had two years until then.
When your mother went for work, you would be alone with your stepfather. Your mother had to go into the office, but your stepfather worked remotely, so he was always home. You hated being alone with the guy, so you would just camp out in your room until your mother got home. You grounded your own self whenever you got back from school. It sucked.
One day, when you got back from school, Yunho was in the living room. Usually, he was in his office, but that day, he was in the living room.
“Hey, Y/N. How was school?”
“Fine.”
You immediately started to walk towards your room, only for Yunho’s voice to stop you.
“We haven’t talked in a while! Come, sit here. Let’s talk.”
With a groan, you turned around and trudged over to the living room. You sat on the sofa furthest away from where that man was. “What did you want to talk about?” you asked rather coldly.
“I feel like we should get to know each other. We are family now, after all.”
“Okay, let’s get something straight,” you sat forward and stared him down. “I only have to be in this stupid house for another two years, and once I’m in college, I’m gone, so don’t even think about trying to be a proper “stepfather” and don’t expect me to call you that either. Legally, we may be a family, but that’s only on paper. Okay?”
Yunho pressed his lips together. He looked slightly disappointed, but he also looked as if he was anticipating this reaction from you. “I’d rather you didn’t call me stepfather, so that’s fine…”
“Also, why did you marry my mom in the first place?” you asked him point blank; since you were actually talking to him properly since the first time you met him, you thought you might as well ask him. “You’re so young. Fuck, you’re closer to my age than hers! What the fuck are you doing? Did you marry my mom for her money?”
“No! I really do like your mom! We had a genuine connection and…” Yunho trailed off.
“And what?”
“…Nothing. Nothing you would want to know.”
You took a moment to process what he told you, only to be immediately disgusted. You stood up and marched out of the living room, thankful that Yunho stopped before divulging his sex life with your mother.
Two more years with that man, and then you were done. You couldn’t wait.
Tumblr media
In those two years, many things happened. You mother got pregnant (much to your dismay) and gave birth to a girl, your half-sister. You were very unhappy with the development of your mother’s relationship with your freakishly young stepfather when your half-sister was born, but you couldn’t help but have a soft spot for her— she always loved you and being in your arms. You were the only one who could get her to stop crying and go to sleep.
Then, you got accepted into your dream school hundreds of miles away from your hometown. You were so excited to go, and the final year of high school passed quickly.
During this time, you had very minimal interactions with Yunho. You only really talked to him when you had to, but that was maybe once every week. Then, when you went to college, you didn’t interact with him at all— or at least you thought you wouldn’t have to.
“But mom, I don’t want to—”
“I don’t give a shit! You are coming home for Thanksgiving, otherwise you can find a way to put yourself through school!”
You couldn’t believe that your education was being held against you to go home, and to be very honest, you would rather suck it up and just go home than work several jobs to pay for your tuition and dorm.
So, every Thanksgiving, every winter break, every spring break, and every other miscellaneous holiday that happened throughout the year, you were at home ignoring the hell out of Yunho and just focusing all of your energy on your younger sister who got bigger every single time you saw her. Your friends would always wish you luck when you had to prepare to head home for the holidays, and you would always be jealous and salty that your friend group went on vacations together during these breaks and would post the pictures online and on social media fully knowing that you were stuck at home with your mother, her husband, and your sister, who was the only person worth going back home for.
One year, however, you had enough. It was your final year of school, and you desperately wanted to go on a trip for spring break with your friend group. Your mother was hellbent on getting you home for that time, so the two of you spent a lot of winter break arguing about it.
“When I say I want you to come home, I mean it! There is no way you’re going on that trip because I am not paying for it!”
“Mom! I listened to you every single holiday for the past three years, and this is my last chance to go on a college trip with my college friends! Please!”
“I’m not saying you can’t go— go if you want! I’m not paying for it, so I know you won’t be able to afford it, so dream on because you are not going to go.”
Frustrated, you let out a huff and stormed upstairs to your room, slamming the door behind you. You sat on your bed and angrily beat up a pillow, trying to get out all of your anger so that you wouldn’t physically take it out on your mother. Someone knocked on your bedroom door lightly as you beat the shit out of the pillow.
“Sis, I’m not in the mood right now,” you said with a sigh, assuming that the person on the other side of the door was your younger sister.
The door opened— you forgot to lock it— and in walked Yunho. He would’ve been the last person you wanted to see had you not gotten into that argument with your mother. He closed the door behind him.
“Oh. What do you want?” you asked him flatly.
“May I?” Yunho pointed to your bed, asking if he could sit without explicitly stating it.
You didn’t want him to, but at that point you were exhausted. You nodded, allowing the man to sit.
“You want to go on that trip with your friends, right?”
“Did you not get that from the argument just now?”
“I did, but I just… I talked to your mom.”
“Okay, and?”
“I told her to let you go on the trip. I’ll give you the money that you need if she doesn’t.”
You stared at the man in complete confusion. Why was he doing you a favor when you made it very clear to him that you couldn’t stand his guts? Narrowing your eyes, you asked, “Are you serious?”
“Yes. You’re right— you never got to go on any trips with your friends, and I want you to be able to go before you graduate. College trips are always fun.”
“Well, you should definitely know since you literally just graduated,” you said, pointing out how freakishly young he is.
Yunho let out a light laugh. He nodded and continued, “Just let me know the expenses when they come, okay?”
You nodded. Yunho stood up to leave. Just as his hand was on the doorknob, you said, “Hey. Thanks.”
He turned and smiled at you, your heart suddenly fluttering. He had such a beautiful smile. Without a word, he left.
Tumblr media
Thanks to Yunho, you were able to enjoy the rest of your college experience to the fullest. Whenever your mother refused to let you have a good time, you would tell Yunho, and he would help you out. It made you wonder why you couldn’t have given him a chance earlier.
Graduation rolled around, and you forgot that with graduation came your family to watch you graduate.
Your friends knew that you didn’t like your stepfather, but they didn’t know why. Then, when they finally met him, they were shocked.
“Dude, your stepdad is so fucking hot,” one of your friends said.
“Why the fuck did you not want to go home for the past four years when that’s the view?!” another friend asked.
“Also how have you not pounced on him yet?” asked one other friend.
“First of all, shut up,” you slapped each one of your friends on the cheek lightly. “That’s gross. Second of all, he’s my stepfather, and that’s all he will ever be to me.”
“Say whatever you want, but the man is hot.”
“And he looks so young!”
“I mean… He is ten years younger than my mom, and he’s six years older than me,” you explained.
“What?!”
“Girl, he’s closer to your age than hers!”
“I know that…”
“You can totally hook up with him!”
“Stop,” you held your hand out and shook your head. “He’s married to my mom, guys, and that’s so weird for me to think about. Can we just not talk about it anymore?”
Your friends nodded, only for one friend to say under their breath, “But he’s still fine as fuck…”
“Shut the fuck up!”
Your mind was racing the rest of your graduation. What your friends said about your stepfather really stuck in your head— it was those kinds of thoughts that made you avoid Yunho like the plague in the first place. You didn’t want to think that way about the guy that your mother fell in love with. You were so in your own head that you didn’t realize your graduation was official until one of your friends’ hat hit you on the head on the way down.
After leaving the venue, you stood outside the doors and waited for your family. Your mother wanted to take pictures of you with your cap and gown in front of the stadium. Your friends waited nearby— they wanted to get a look of your stepfather again. You tried to shoo them away, but they refused to move.
“Y/N! My baby!” your mother cheered as she saw you. “You’re officially a college graduate! I’m so proud of you!”
Your mother hugged you, and you could only weakly smile. She kissed your cheek before immediately turning to your friends and asking, “Can one of you please take a picture of me and my daughter?”
One of your friends stepped up and took your mother’s phone to take pictures. At first, it was just you and your mother, then it was the entire family. You stood in between Yunho and your mother, your little sister standing right in front of you. You felt your heart start to race the closer Yunho stood to you, which freaked you out because you wouldn’t have been feeling this way had your friends not said anything about his looks.
“Okay, now just you and Yunho,” your mother told you.
“Wait, I—”
“Yes! Stand over there, Y/N!” your friend with the camera said as they pointed to an area slightly further away from them.
You shot your friend a glare before going to where they asked you to go. You seriously did not want to take this picture, but you didn’t want to make a scene in public. Yunho stood next to you as you positioned yourself. There was a slight gap between the two of you, prompting your friend to say, “Scoot closer together! You both look so awkward!”
You were so ready to kill your friend. Reluctantly, you took a step towards Yunho. He also took a step towards you at the same time, causing you to bump into him. Before you could stumble anywhere, his hand went around your waist. Butterflies erupted in your stomach when he hugged you lightly. His touch was so… Pleasant. You hated that you liked his touch, and you hated it even more when you wanted him to touch you more. He wasn’t getting touchy-feely at all, but that didn’t stop your libido from wanting more. You couldn’t help but think that it would be so nice if he could be more intimate, only for you to immediately reject the idea. You seriously needed your brain to shut up. Thinking about your stepfather in that sense was so weird, and you needed it to stop.
The second your friend took the picture, Yunho released you, and you could breathe once more. You didn’t even realize that you held your breath while he was holding you. After you took a couple pictures with your little sister, you immediately turned to your friends and slapped the backs of their heads. If it weren’t for them, you would not have thought about Yunho, your goddamn stepfather, in that way.
Tumblr media
Luckily for you, you found a job right after graduating from college. It was in the big metropolitan city near your hometown, and while you could have made the commute daily, you decided to live in the city for a multitude of reasons, a huge one being the fact that you just didn’t want to live with your mother and her new family. It wasn’t that you hated them, but you wanted to be an adult, and living at home would not allow you to do that. Also, Yunho. You wanted to continue to avoid that man as long as you possibly could.
That being said, you did go home pretty frequently to eat your mother’s cooking (for free, and free food is always great), and you went to visit your half-sister because you liked being there for her. You babysitting her also allowed your mother and her husband to go out on dates, which meant it was mainly just you and your little sister at home. Not bad at all.
One day, you went home to run some errands. Your friends in your hometown wanted to meet up, you had to visit some of your old favorite stores, and you wanted to grab some food from your mother to bring back to your apartment in the city because the next week was going to be incredibly busy for you at work, and there was no chance you would be able to make yourself meals.
It was silent when you got home. You looked around to see if anyone was home, and you found someone, but it wasn’t who you wanted to see.
“Oh, Y/N, what brings you here?” Yunho greeted you from the living room.
He was sitting on the couch and just started playing a movie, which he paused as soon as you walked into the house.
“I’m just here to grab food because I have a busy week next week. Where’s mom and sis?”
“Your mom took her to the eye doctor to get her eyes checked because she’s been sitting too close to the TV lately.”
“Oh…”
You stood awkwardly in the kitchen, unsure of what to do with yourself. You had to wait for your mother to come home to make food, and you felt awkward just leaving the area and going to your room. You and Yunho had never been alone together, so ignoring him felt wrong.
“What’re you watching?” you asked Yunho after a long moment of silence.
“Orlando. Have you seen it?”
“No, I haven’t.”
“Come watch with me, then. The movie barely started.”
You hesitantly made your way to the living room. You were going to sit in one of the arm chairs, but Yunho patted the space on the couch next to him. You joined him on the couch, enough empty space for God between the two of you.
As the movie played, you tried your best to watch the movie, but you couldn’t help but steal glances at Yunho’s side profile— he was heavily invested in the movie. You kept thinking about what your college friends said about him, and you finally admitted to yourself that, yes, Yunho, your stepfather, was indeed very attractive. You had to keep reminding yourself that he was your stepfather, and that the thoughts in your head were just wrong.
Then, the craziest thing happened. Yunho put his hand on your thigh. You immediately reclaimed your thigh and scooted away from him.
“What is— Why— When— What do you think you’re doing?!” you stuttered.
Yunho looked you dead in the eye, his serious face making your insides swell with heat. “Cut the crap, Y/N. You want me, don’t you?” he said with a low voice.
“Are you insane?!”
You continued to scoot backwards and lean away as Yunho approached you. Your head hit the pillow as Yunho pinned you down, his hands pressed on the couch on either side of you.
“You think I didn’t see you sneaking looks at me? Why do you keep looking at me instead of the movie, Y/N?”
“I mean— I don’t— How— Uh—”
“See, you can’t even answer me properly. You want me.”
Yunho ran his hand up your thigh, which you immediately slapped away while saying, “No, I don’t!
“Really?”
You tried to roll off the couch and away from Yunho, but his arm blocked your path. His hand firmly held onto your waist as you tried to wriggle out of his grasp.
“S-stop it…”
“Face it, Y/N. You want me just as much as I want you.”
Your eyes went wide. You had no idea what the man meant by that when he said it, and it freaked you out completely. Slightly panicking, you tried to push him away, but the second your hands touched his chest, he grabbed your wrists and pinned them above your head. You squirmed and tried desperately to get out of his grasp, but then he kissed you.
Yunho kissing you melted your brain. He was an amazing kisser. He kissed you intensely, his soft lips sucking sweetly on yours. You pushed yourself further into his kiss, your lips desperate for his. You had never kissed anyone so intensely in your entire life until that moment, and you only realized that fact after he finally broke away from you as you were completely out of breath the second he moved away. Your face was hot, and your eyes were bleary as every atom of your body yearned for him.
“See, I told you.”
“Fuck…”
Wordlessly, Yunho turned off the TV before turning back to you, his arms wrapping tightly around you. He lifted you off the couch, and you immediately wrapped your legs around his waist. You held onto his face and kissed him over and over and over again because you seriously could not get enough of him. When his hands supported your thighs instead of your torso, his grip on you got stronger, turning you on even more. The two were you were breathless as he carried you to his room and laid you down on the bed gently.
His lips were still connected with yours as he began to caress your body. He rolled the tips of his fingers over your clothed crotch, causing you to moan into his mouth.
“Fuck, that was so hot,” Yunho pulled away to comment. “You’re so fucking hot, Y/N.”
You had never heard the man utter a single profanity in the time you knew him, so him swearing was so unbelievably sexy to you to the point where your body trembled with excitement. You desperately needed him to do something about your throbbing pussy, but Yunho wanted to take things slow. He dragged his tongue along your neck before kissing your neck sloppily. While you didn’t think it was smart of him to leave a mark on your neck, you couldn’t help but want him to. Then again, it was fine if he left hickeys on you, but you definitely could not leave hickeys on him.
“God, I could just fuck you up,” Yunho whispered half to himself.
“Do it.”
“What?”
“Do it. Fuck me up, Yunho.”
Yunho stared at you, his eyes getting darker. He brought his face near yours and said with an incredibly sexy, low voice, “That’s the first time you’ve ever said my name, Y/N.”
He kissed you hungrily, making you hold onto his shoulders for dear life.
“I want you to say my name. I want you to scream and cry my name,” he uttered as he wrapped light fingers around your neck. “I want you to beg me to fuck you senseless. Will you do that for me?”
You responded with a light nod. Yunho kissed you harshly, his fingers pressing into your neck. You didn’t realize how much you would enjoy someone choking you while making out with you until then. Yunho was experienced, and he was using that experience to turn your brain into mush. You wanted him bad. Your hips moved restlessly as you felt the tension build between your legs, and you desperately needed a release. Your hand move down to rub yourself, but Yunho grabbed your hand before it could go there and held it above your head while he stopped kissing you. There was a slight smirk on his face as he noticed your restlessness.
“Yunho,” you said, your voice wavering.
“Yes, Y/N?”
“I— My pussy… Do something,” you nearly cried.
With a knowing smile, Yunho nodded and sat up. He pulled off his shirt— he grabbed the back of his collar to take it off, which you found to be incredibly hot— before helping you strip down. Your clothes were in a pile on the ground, leaving you laying on the bed completely naked. Your pussy was soaking wet by that time. Yunho gazed at your pussy, your throbbing, pink, fresh pussy, with sparkling eyes. He grazed his nails along your folds, your thighs trembling at his touch. But, he was taking his sweet time with you, and it was driving you crazy. You clutched the pillow under your head and groaned in frustration.
“Yunho, just fuck me please! I can’t take it anymore!”
“Mmm, for someone who’s been avoiding me, you sure do want me bad right now,” Yunho chuckled.
You were going to respond, but when you felt his fingers shove into, you let out a loud gasp and moan. You flung your head back into the pillow and let out cry after cry. You had to bite your lower lip and muffled your noises when Yunho started massaging your breast and sucking intensely on your nipple.
“F-fuck, I’m cumming,” you choked out as you felt your orgasm nearing.
“Yes, come for me, Y/N,” Yunho moved up to whisper in your ear, his fingers not letting up.
That was all you needed to hit euphoria. Your nails nearly tore through the pillowcase as your pussy convulsed. Your moan echoed in the room, and your eyes rolled to the back of your head. Sweet, sweet relief.
“Shit,” Yunho hissed as he removed his fingers. “You’re so incredibly sexy… I can’t hold back any longer.”
You were completely out of breath as the high of your orgasm slowly disappeared. Your eyes were bleary as you opened them to see Yunho’s faint shape get off the bed to remove his pants. Within seconds, Yunho was back on the bed, and he moved your legs, your knees in the air as your feet pressed into the mattress. He positioned himself and leaned his upper body down to dominate your lips. The second his lips locked with yours, he thrusted into you powerfully. You moaned into his mouth when his waist slammed against yours and when his tongue shoved its way into your mouth.
Yunho let out grunts of pleasure as he waist met yours repeatedly at a slow and steady pace. But, when you let go of the pillow to hold onto his shoulders, and when your nails dug into his skin, he inhaled sharply through his teeth and fucked you harder and faster. The entire bed squeaked and moved as his tempo increased, and you felt your brain and body melt with pleasure.
“Yunho! More!” you ended the kiss to whine.
And he delivered. He moved up, held your waist with a strong grip, and pulled you closer towards him as he lifted your waist. Him pounding the shit out of you felt so good that you couldn’t control yourself anymore. Tears filled your eyes as more moans and groans and cries spilled out of your mouth. His cock felt amazing inside you, and even though he was pile driving you into oblivion, you somehow still wanted more of him.
“I’m close,” Yunho bit out. “I’m going to cum inside, okay?”
That was probably the more you wanted. You nodded and pulled him down towards you once more, your mouth begging for his tongue. He groaned into your mouth as you felt his dick shudder and spurt within you, his cum filling and warming you up. When he pulled out, his cum leaked out of you, and you watched him stare at your pussy in delight.
You laid on the bed until your heart rate calmed down before pushing yourself up and saying, “I’m going to go clean myself up…”
You didn’t even wait for a reaction from Yunho. You scurried to the bathroom (trying desperately not to leak out on your way), and sat on the toilet to quickly clean yourself up. Shortly thereafter, you stood in front of the mirror and washed your hands. You looked at your reflection to see small, dark hickeys scattered across your chest. As you inspected the bruises on your skin, Yunho walked up behind you. He arms snaked around you and massaged your breasts as he pressed his dick against you.
“Yunho, what are you doing?” you asked carefully.
“I’m not done with you just yet,” Yunho said softly as he bit your earlobe.
“Uh, no. We’re done.”
You turned around and tried to push past him, but that didn’t work the first time, so how was it going to work again. Placing hands on the sink countertop on either side of you, Yunho trapped you. He leaned in towards you, and you leaned backwards to the best of your ability. You were so sure he was going to kiss you, but when his face stopped a mere couple of centimeters before yours, you stared at him in surprise.
“What, do you want me to stop now?” he asked you teasingly.
You felt his hard cock press against your stomach, and feeling how hard he was, not to mention seeing the amount of lust in his eyes, turned you on entirely. You swallowed hard and begrudgingly shook your head. You needed him again.
“That’s what I thought. Turn around. Bend over.”
With his hands guiding you, you did as he said. Your breasts pressed against the cool countertop, making you shiver. You didn’t have the time to be cold, though, because Yunho swiftly slid his dick into you, your entire body lurching forward.
“Oh, fuck!” you screamed as you felt Yunho’s pelvis slam against your buttocks quickly. “Y-yunho!”
“You like that, huh?” Yunho said with a grunt.
You moaned loudly in response. The two of you were breathing heavily, and the mirrors in the bathroom were starting to fog up. Suddenly, Yunho pulled out, making you cum almost instantly. Your legs trembled as you came, and they nearly gave out. However, before you could collapse to the ground, Yunho turned you around and sat you down on the countertop. He shoved his dick deep inside you, but he didn’t move quite yet.
“What is it?” you whispered as he looked you up and down.
“You’re stunning… So sexy,” Yunho answered as he brought his nose to brush against your jawline. “I could seriously just stare at you all day long.”
He peppered kisses along your jaw and neck, his hands running up and down your waist sensually. You wrapped your arms over his shoulders and held onto the back of his neck as he left more hickeys on your chest. When his hands went around you and hugged you towards him, you couldn’t help but press your fingers into his skin, making the man tremble.
Without a second to lose, Yunho lifted you up and fucked you by using his arms to raise and lower you onto his dick. You held onto him tightly, the fear of falling and feeling of his dick going deeper inside you exciting you. He pressed his lips against yours again, your tongue dancing with his briefly until he brought you down harshly on his penis.
“You’re hitting so deep, Yunho!”
“It’s because you’re taking me so well, Y/N. Your pussy was made for me.”
Your heart skipped a beat. Yunho saying something like that to you was unnatural, but it made you feel so good, so sexy.
Yunho carried you out of the bathroom. He pulled out, set you down so that you were standing, and stroked his dick several times. He pinned you up against the wall and brought your thigh up, your leg wrapping around him. His cock entered you again, and he resumed thrusting fast and hard.
Then, you both heard the front door open. Yunho covered your mouth— he did not intend to stop fucking you. You did you best to hold back your moans, but you were worried about the sound of his hips slapping against yours.
You heard footsteps head towards the door of the bedroom. Tears filled your eyes and started rolling down your cheeks as the fear of getting caught tensed your body entirely. You heard the doorknob jiggle as your mom tried to open the door, but the door did not open. Yunho had locked the door ages ago. So, she knocked on the door.
“Honey?”
“Yes, darling?” Yunho responded, his voice low, sensual, and almost a little groggy.
“What’s going on? Why is the bedroom door locked?”
“I’m taking a nap.”
“Oh… Okay. Have a good nap, then.” You heard your mom walk away from the door, only for her to quickly walk back. “I saw Y/N’s car outside. Is she here?”
“No, she stepped out. She said she would wait until you got back since she only really came to pick up food.”
Yunho’s hips hit yours even harder, the sound scaring you, but the force pleasuring you.
“Shoot, I have to go grocery shopping!” Come, sweetie,” your mom said to your sister— her household nickname was sweetie— and continued, “Let’s go grab some snacks for you and your sister!”
The second you heard the front door close and lock, Yunho removed his hand. You hiccuped and cried softly. Meanwhile, Yunho was still fucking you.
“That was so scary,” you cried. “Why didn’t you stop?!”
“You look way too fucking good right now. I can’t stop.”
Yunho thrusted so hard into you that your back hit the wall slightly, making you yelp. You continued to yelp as he fucked you without remorse.
“Fuck, Y/N. I’m so close.”
You sniffled and nodded, tears still blurring your vision. Yunho kissed you again, but rather than him eating you alive, his kiss was sweet this time around. He held your face and kissed you softly. With one final thrust, his cock throbbed and trembled inside you, his stickiness filling you up once more. Your hold on him relaxed, but you continued kissing him, his posh lips making you forget about why you were so scared in the first place. You remained in that position against the wall for a good several minutes, not wanting to lose the feeling of his long dick shoved in your tight pussy so quickly. If anything, you wanted him to fuck you more.
Which he did. A couple more times, actually.
Tumblr media
You got cleaned up and donned all of your clothes. Before you could leave the bedroom, Yunho grabbed you and hugged you. He buried his nose in your hair and sighed deeply.
“Yunho, I have a question,” you told him as you leaned away from him.
“What is it?”
“Earlier, when you said that I wanted you as much as you wanted me, what did you mean by that?”
“You’re a beautiful young woman, Y/N. It’s hard for someone to not be attracted to you. I’ve honestly been wanting this to happen since you graduated.”
The realization of your relationship with the man hit you. It was in the back of your head the entire time he was fucking your brains out, but you only really remembered the nature of the relationship then and there. You pushed him away; and this time, he allowed it.
“We shouldn’t have done this, Yunho.”
There was a certain look on Yunho’s face, but you couldn’t quite put your finger on what it was or what he was thinking. The two of you maintained eye contact, and despite the fact that you knew very well that there was nothing that could ever happen between you and the man in front of you, your libido still lusted for him.
“I know that, but,” Yunho took a step towards you and wrapped one arm around your waist. “I’m glad we did.”
And with that, he kissed you one more time— it was sweet, hot, but nonintrusive. His hand moved up from your waist to your neck, his fingers moving to your scalp and holding you closer to him. You nearly whimpered when the kiss ended.
“You can stay in denial all you want,” Yunho told you. “But just know that I’ll be here in case you ever want to cross the line again.”

DEKU
When Deku has enough of waiting for you to notice him and all that he's been doing for you, going out of his way to stick close to you to protect you, taking time out of his training just to hang out with you, he decides to be more direct with you. Breaking into your room and pinning you down to the bed was really the only option left.
"I wanted to confess to you for so long, I wanted to feel you for so long. I don't have a lot of experience but... I hope this feels good for you too. Tell me if I'm doing something wrong."
A little hard to talk when his hand is over your mouth to muffle your moans and whimpers. You knew there was someone following you around lately. Never pictured that it would the sweet and smiling Deku. He's still smiling down at you as his hard cock pushes inside of you, a lot thicker then you anticipated him to be. He was supposed to be a pro-hero, someone to save you, someone you admired from afar. Not someone you have in your bed, thrusting wildly between your legs, making your legs go numb with the force of it.
"So good! You feel so goo! Amazing! Much better then I thought, and so much tighter too. Ah! S-Stop clamping down on me! I want this to last. I need it to last, we need to enjoy ourselves. The first time between a couple is supposed to be the most memorable. Ah! St- Ah! Damn it!"
Deku became very sloppy in his thrusting, his face pinkened pink as he was the one moaning and whimpering high enough for the both of you as you felt his hot cum filling your pussy up. He can't stop thrusting when he feels your walls milking him for more, your body snapping under him, your teeth biting into his finger.
"Oh. I guess you did end up feeling pretty good after all. I'm glad! I always want you to feel good with me. From now on I'll try to last longer okay? You just... felt so good and I lost control over myself. A little embarrassing haha. I'll do better for you. That's a hero's promise."
DABI
Dabi knew that you were watching him, you were a reporter, it was your job but for some reason you always showed up only where was at, and you always covered his stories. That's right he's noticed you, and guess what he wants to reward you for all your hard work. He even went out of his way to meet you in the city, in broad daylight.
"Sorry this alley is a little bit uncomfy for you sweetheart, but I don't want everyone to see what a slut you really are. It didn't even take that much for you to open your legs for me, shows how desperate you are for some good dick."
He's holding you up by your ass cheeks, rough fingers hot on your naked flesh while he thrusts inside you with wild abandon, the sound of cars and trains passing by covering your whimpers. With your panties hanging off your foot you can comfortably wrap your legs around him to pull him closer, deeper. But should you? Dabi is a villain, you know all the bad things he's done... yet you can't help but want it. You need him closer, need his cock so deep.
"I saw you watching my every move. Didn't think I was watching back did you? Not only that but I've seen you, fucking yourself on that dildo, moaning my name. I almost... fuck... I almost took you right there and then. But it was more fun to play this little game of cat and mouse with you."
Knowing Dabi wants you as much as you want him sends you over the edge and into the hardest orgasm of your life, your hips rocking down on him, his balls smacking into you loudly as his big cock twitches and explodes with cum, directly into your womb. He looks really smug when he sees it all dripping down on the concrete floor.
"Oh look at that! You finally got what you deserved, what you wanted! There's a lot more where that came from. You just make sure to show up like you've always been and I'll give you something better then a news story. Or... I could always visit and we can have a private night time interview."

It was another beautiful day in Pabu. The sun was bright and warm, moonyos were chittering as they ran across the paths, and Hunter stood against a wall, scowling at the scene playing out before him.
You were standing, talking to a neighbor excitedly about something he couldn’t make out, but he could see that you were smiling.
You had adjusted to life in Pabu easier than the rest of them, trusting the people here immediately and wholeheartedly. Sure, the rest of the squad was opening up, too, but there was something nagging at the back of Hunter’s brain every time he watched you make a new acquaintance.
Your laugh caught his attention and he watched as your hand touched the man’s arm, steadying yourself.
He heard Omega approach from his side. “Hunter?” she questioned, following his line of sight to you.
“Yeah?”
“Is everything okay?”
He briefly glanced down at her. “Yeah, everything is fine.”
Omega nodded, but her curious gaze stuck on him. “You’re doing it again.”
Hunter’s brow furrowed a little more. “What?”
She shrugged. “Echo told me I had to keep an extra eye on you because you do this thing where you stare at them looking all grumpy. He said that you were gonna scare them off.”
Hunter’s gaze finally fully shifted to her. “I don’t do that,” he protested, earning an incredulous look from his sister.
“Why are you always so angry with them anyway? They’re really nice and funny-”
“I’m not angry,” Hunter interjected with a sigh. “I just think they trust too easily.”
“Oh,” Omega hummed, drawing out the vowel. “So you’re protecting them?”
A vague suspicion tagged at the back of his brain as her tone shifted, but he ignored it as he kept his eyes on you. “Sure.”
“You don’t watch Tech or Wrecker like this,” she pointed out.
Hunter sighed. “They don’t get into trouble as much.”
“Is that the only reason?”
“Omega,” Hunter warned.
“Don’t you trust them?”
“I do, but-”
“I think you like them.”
Hunter all but growled in frustration. “Look, sometimes you have to keep an eye on people you lo– people you care about to make sure that they’re okay.”
“So,” Omega murmured. “You do care about them.”
“Yes.”
“A lot?”
“Ye– they’re part of this squad.”
He wasn’t sure when exactly she had left his side, his attention focused on you as you accompanied the neighbor back through the streets of Pabu.
It had taken quite a bit of practice, but Omega was getting better at evading her brother’s heightened senses. She ducked underneath a wall with flowers growing out of it, whispering your name as you emerged from your new friend’s house.
“Omega?” you chuckled. “What are you doing?”
“Get down here!” she hissed, her tone setting off an alarm in your mind, but her grin soothing it.
You knelt down next to her. “What’s going on?”
“Remember that special mission?” she smiled, excitement permeating the air around her.
You eyed her suspiciously. “Omega-”
“I know you said to drop it,” she explained. “But I think I’ve made some progress!”
You sighed, running a hand down your face as she continued.
“He only glares at you like that because he’s trying to protect you,” she informed you. “He thinks you get into trouble a lot, so he has to make sure you’re okay. But he said he cares about you a lot.”
You blinked at her, the information still processing.
“Why- why didn’t he come and talk to me himself?” you mumbled.
“Echo said it’s because he’s scared of you,” Omega stated, matter-of-factly.
You scoffed. “Scared of me? Look at me, ‘Meg; I’m not exactly intimidating.”
“Perhaps not physically,” Tech suddenly appeared at the other side of the wall they were sitting against, startling you. “But given that Hunter has seldom cared for anyone outside of his siblings, it stands to reason that his affection for you feels unfamiliar and therefore, uncomfortable.”
Tech continued on to inform Omega about how she can improve at staying out of Hunter’s awareness as you sat, trying to absorb the information. One phrase hummed through your body on repeat. He cares about you.
As it neared sunset, you found yourself sitting on the edge of the dock, staring out at the horizon.
“Mind if I join you?” Hunter asked. You nodded with a small smile.
He sat next to you, mirroring the way your feet hung over the side. You sat there together in an easy silence, though you could tell he had something to say.
“Did Omega tell you I was here?” you prompted. Maybe you could draw something out of the terse sergeant.
“Uh, yeah,” he hummed.
“So you came looking for me?”
He nodded, awkwardly sparing a glance towards you.
You smirked. “What can I do for you, Hunter?”
He felt his body humming with electricity as you said his name. You have no idea the effect you have on me, he thought.
“No? Maybe you could tell me,” you suggested, watching his entire face bloom into a deep red as he realized he’d voiced what he meant to stay in his head. You set a hand gently on his knee, noting the tiny gasp he made. “I have it on pretty good authority that you care about me.”
Hunter swallowed. Omega was so grounded.
“Perhaps our little double agent didn’t relay information back to you,” you mused.
“No?” he nearly whispered.
“She told me how you feel, but I don’t think she told you how I feel,” you smiled, feeling your own cheeks warm under his intense gaze.
Hunter’s mouth felt dry and his heart pounded against his ribcage. “And how do you feel?”
This was it. You had to say it now.
“To put it simply, I’m in love with you, Hunter.”
Time stopped around you, the ocean ceased its ebb and flow, the sun paused where it hung low in the sky. There was no sound but both of your heartbeats as you gazed at one another. Hunter’s mouth was parted in a tiny ‘o’ like he couldn’t believe what you’d just confessed.
Reality snapped back into place around you as he began to smile. He leaned towards you, one hand coming up to cup the side of your face. “I’m in love with you, too, mesh’la.”
Neither of you knew who’d closed the gap first, your lips slotting together in a deep and overdue embrace. He broke the contact first, resting his forehead against yours as he attempted to catch his breath. In this moment, it was just you and Hunter.
Neither of you heard the hoots and hollering of the rest of the squad.

On the topic of Raphael and him "being bad in bed".
Okay I'm only ever going to talk about this at length once and then never again. I've been avoiding talking about it until now because bringing it up always just seems to keep this topic in circles and it becomes an endless pit of nothing.
First of all, I know most of the time (like maybe 70% of the time) it's for the lolz. I get it. Hell, Raphael fans will be the FIRST to quip about this.
BUT
For those taking it seriously one way or another... It becomes such old hat VERY fast.
Those who use it as a jab towards Raphael havers are... Kinda dumb. Because it's like... Okay, and? You act as if somehow negates the entirety of his character somehow just because "HAR HAR HANDSOME DEVIL MAN IS BAD AT SEX" and it's so... vapid and boring? Also it seems a lot of people keep thinking "bad at sex" = JUST that he finishes too fast and nothing else but they seem to forget that the player character came up with that insult on the spot (rather than seeing it as a commentary about his pure selfishness and where it stems from). Haarlep is also a bias source. There's a semblance of resentment from them AND they're a damn incubus. EVERYONE'S terrible in bed in comparison (have you seen Tav? Little shit just lays there like a sack of potatoes during the Haarlep scene). This isn't me saying "Oh it means Raphael is terrific in bed because Haarlep's word cannot be trusted". HELL, no. Quite the opposite, actually. I'm saying "okay... What can I glean from that set of information?"
I feel like this goes for Raphael havers too who have this conversation. I feel like many tend to fall into this trap of odd desparity when they realise that "oh no our magnificent hot man is bad at sex" and somehow treat it as if it's forever a caveat and somehow negates the ENTIRETY of Raphael as a complex character. My first reaction when I got this information during House of Hope was laughing and then going "mmm that's so interesting and adds such a great layer to this already amazing character. Where else can I take this to". In fact, House of Hope as a quest does SO much in adding all these tidbits that make Raphael not just another boring, all knowing, god like, ineffible character. It made me love and appreciate his character even MORE. instead of going in circles and lamenting in how this is somehow "the worst thing ever", I think it's way more fun to explore it and delve into where the root of his narcissism and self esteem issues come from. The dichotomy and complexes of his character. There's SO much to talk about there and yet we're still just stuck on "haha devil man is a bottom and bad in bed" (which is another ridiculous thing btw because people seem to misconstrue bottoms as JUST being submissive. Y'all need to be more open minded 😂).
Apologies if this came off as ranty/condescending maybe. But it's coming from someone who's just minding her own business but have to see a variation of that line CONSTANTLY in the notes/tags on my art/gif posts and as I said... It gets so old REALLY fast. Like please be more imaginative than this, I beg of you. 😭

Hey lovely!
I'm back for another request haha
Could I please request amethyst with Boss in Winter?
There's just something about Boss being courageous in everything he does that makes me think it would be a good fit!
❤️
Tumblr media
Confession
Summary: You and Boss have been tiptoeing around each other for, what seems like, years. Something has to give, and early one winter morning, something does.
Pairing: Clone Commando Boss x Reader
Word Count: 733
Prompt: Amethyst - Courageous Love
Warnings: None
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni @imabeautifulbutterfly
A/N: I hope this is close to what you wanted! I love Boss so much, so I put a lot of myself into the reader, lol. Sorry. And I gave Boss some of my husband's mannerisms (like walking on the outside, closest to the road)
Tumblr media
Months ago, when you were in the middle of an anxiety attack, Boss dragged you outside and took you for a walk. You didn’t walk anywhere, the pair of you just walked and talked.
It was the start of an early morning habit, or perhaps tradition would be a better word.
Every morning, you and Boss will wake up and go for a walk while the sun rises. No matter the weather. Heat, cold, rain, shine. It doesn’t matter.
It’s become a much beloved part of your morning routine. It allows you to be the center of Boss’ attention for however long the pair of you decide to walk, it gets you some much needed exercise, and it allows you to get out of your own head for a bit.
Really, it’s no wonder that you fell in love with him, all things considered. No one’s ever been so conscientious towards you before.
Of course, he doesn’t know that.
You’re not quite brave enough to put yourself out there like that. Not even for him. But you are, slowly, working up the nerve.
Very slowly.
Like. At a snail’s pace.
In any event, when you wake up at your normal time one winter morning and see that there’s snow falling from the sky, you’re thrilled. You love the snow, how it coats everything in a blanket of soft white, how everything seems quieter and more muffled.
Snow makes everything seem a little more magical.
Maybe you’re a bit old to believe that, but you don’t care.
You can cling to this little bit of whimsy for a bit longer, right?
Quickly, to not keep Boss waiting longer than you have to, you dart around your room, pulling on thicker clothes and boots that are suitable for walking in the snow, and then you hurry out of your suite to where Boss always waits for you.
“Sorry, am I late?” You ask as you hurry to his side.
He looks amazing, dressed in casual winter clothes rather than the armor that he normally wears. Of course, he never wears his armor while going on these walks with you.
“No, I only just arrived myself.” Boss allows as a small smile crosses his face. He reaches out and flicks the pom-pom on top of your hat, “Cute.”
“It’s my only winter hat,” You admit sheepishly, “My mom bought it for me.”
His smile widens slightly and he pushes open the door and steps to the side to let you out first, “It suits you.”
You step into the snow, throwing an amused smile over your shoulder, “You think so?”
“I know so. It’s a good color on you.”
“Thanks. I have a lot of siblings, so mom made it easy when we were born and chose a color for all of us. I was given teal.”
“Yeah? How many siblings?”
“Less than you,” You tease as you wait for Boss to fall into step next to you, before you head off the base.
“Everyone has fewer siblings than me.” Boss points out wryly, “I should hope, at least.”
You laugh, “I have less than 10 and more than 1.”
“That’s very specific,” Boss teases as he moves to your other side so that he’s walking closest to the road.
“I try.” You tease right back.
Boss guides you into the park, towards the hiking trail that you both prefer, the conversation light and friendly. And then he stops in front of the fountain. It’s not running, because of the cold, but it’s still beautiful.
“I need to tell you something.”
“Okay?” You turn to face him properly, “Is something wrong?”
“No…and yes.” Boss takes your gloved hands in his, “I’m tired of us tiptoeing around each other.”
“You…what?”
“I love you. I want to date you. And I think you feel the same way.” Boss says, “Tell me that I’m wrong and I’ll never mention it again. We can continue on as we have been.”
“No, I-” You fumble over your words, “I feel the same way. I do!”
He smiles at you, and your heart skips a beat, “I knew you did. But it’s still nice to hear it.” He steps closer, one of his hands comes up to brush some snow off your cheek, “I’m going to kiss you now.”
And then his lips are against yours, and it’s everything you’ve ever wanted.

Word Count: 6,306
It's been exactly four weeks and two days since you last spoke to Eddie. Ever since that day you saw him and Chrissy together, you vowed to never let him hurt you again. It was tough going to school and dealing with all the rumors swirling around you, Eddie, and Chrissy.
Most people had called you a slut, others said Eddie was the slut who had corrupted you in some way and a few people said it was a hoax, unwilling to believe that Eddie The Freak Munson was able to date two women at once. You ignored the rumors, choosing to focus on your schoolwork so you could graduate and get the hell out of this town.
Clara was there beside you through it all and helped you brave the storm. You were forever grateful for her friendship, people like her are hard to come by and should always be cherished. You vowed to repay her as soon as you got the chance.
Eddie had tried his best to talk to you afterward. He had tried everything from following you around at school, showing up at your house, and calling you every night but you shot him down every time. The blinders were off and you wouldn't allow yourself to be fooled by him any longer.
You still loved Eddie but not enough to sacrifice your happiness. You vowed that you would never do that after witnessing the destruction of your parent's marriage. Your mother had spent many nights crying herself to sleep and now was a shell of who she used to be, throwing herself into her work to avoid her harsh reality.
They say that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree because here you were, on your way to your new job at Family Video. You'd had the great idea to get a job to help keep you preoccupied. You've been working there for officially two weeks now and you loved it. It's a laid-back job with decent pay plus your co-workers were awesome.
You pull into the parking lot and park your car. As you make your way into the store the hairs on the back of your neck began to stand on end. You stop in your tracks as you look around the lot cautiously, heading into the store when you don't see anything strange. For the past few weeks, you kept having the strangest feeling that you were being followed. With Hawkins being notorious for people going missing and all of the strange occurrences, it was always best to be on guard in a town like this one.
"Hi, Y/n," your coworkers Robin and Steve echoed in union.
You raised a brow at them as you entered the store and went behind the sales desk. "Oookay, that wasn't creepy at all," you laughed as you placed your bag under the counter.
"What do you mean," they both asked in confusion.
"Okay, seriously guys, this is weird," you stated, getting slightly creeped out. With the weird feeling of eyes watching you at random times of the day, it didn't take much to put you on edge nowadays.
"Sorry Y/n, it was Steve's idea," Robin laughed, hugging you.
"Hey, not true! Don't believe her Y/n," he tells you as he hugs you as well. The bell on the door chimes, signaling the arrival of a customer as you are wrapped up in his arms.
You turn your head to see Eddie headed your way with his eyes trained on you. Steve lets you go to help Eddie as he places his items on the counter. His eyes are dark, nearly the color of coals as he glares at Steve.
"Harrington," he sniffs before turning to Robin with a bright smile. "Hey Robbie," he grins.
"Munson, if you call me that name one more time, I'm going to jam your precious guitar up your ass!"
Eddie throws his hands up in mock surrender "Yes ma'am," he replies jokingly. His gaze finally settles on yours "Hello Y/n," he whispers, his eyes soft and shining with emotion.
"Hi, Eddie." Your voice is monotone and your expression is indifferent, a severe contrast to the emotions raging inside of you.
Sensing the awkward atmosphere between you two, Steve steps in and picks up the movies Eddie placed on the counter. He taps a few keys onto the register and scans the barcode on the back of the tapes. "Alright Munson, it says here that you have an overdue late fee of $6.18 on your account. Would you like to make a payment today?"
Eddie begrudgingly looks away from you and turns toward Steve. He digs into the pocket of his jeans, pulls out a wrinkled ten-dollar bill, and hands it to Steve. Unable to stand the tension building, you busy yourself by going over to the romance section to organize the shelf.
Minutes go by, and you hear the soft footsteps of someone walking up behind you. You look over to find Eddie standing there with his hands shoved into the pockets of his well-worn jeans. You stand up and move to leave before he stops you.
"Wait Y/n, can we talk? Please!" he begs, his hands stretched out towards you blocking your exit.
You sigh deeply and shake your head, feeling your resolve break. "You have a minute," you relent, crossing your arms as you wait.
"Baby, what happened before," he begins, as he takes a step towards you. You take a step back, holding your hand up between you two.
"Sorry," he mutters sadly before continuing. "What you saw with me and Chrissy, it wasn't what it looked like. I was about to tell her that it was over between her and me when she —," he trailed off unable to continue. He couldn't tell you about the upside down. It could put you in danger and that was something he refused to allow to happen.
You lifted a brow expectantly as you waited for him to continue. Your patience was starting to wane thin.
"Um, she said that she um— that she needed me," he responded weakly. It sounded unbelievable even to his own ears. He sees your face drops back into a cold stare and his chest tightens in fear when he realizes how bad he's fucking this up right now.
"You have to believe me Y/n. It's just for a little while and this doesn't mean that I'm with her because it doesn't and I promise you she knows that." His words are rushed and awkward as he tries to convince you that his words are true.
"Times up Eddie." You turn to walk away and he grabs your hand quickly.
"Y/n wait, I'm telling the truth. I just need you to wait for me, please, at least until I sort everything out." His plea is desperate as he holds your hand close to his heart.
"Why should I Eddie? You haven't been honest with me not once this entire time! You won! You got what you wanted so just leave me the fuck alone." Your voice rises out of anger, causing Robin and Steve to throw concerned glances in your direction. You let out slow deep breaths as you attempt to reel your emotions back in.
Shock is evident on Eddie's face, which soon gives way to anger. If he was honest with himself he's never done well with confrontation. With his father mentally and physically abusing him throughout his childhood, he's developed a sort of defense mechanism, which makes him run away when he feels threatened. The hurt that he feels because you don't trust him makes him angry, not knowing how to properly deal with his emotions. He feels that he's been nothing but honest with you this entire time. If there was anything he left out it was for your safety, not so he could try and fuck you over.
"You know what, fuck this," Eddie grunts, as his feelings get the better of him. "You don't have to believe me." As the words leave his lips his heart breaks and regrets already spreading through him as he turns away from you, storming out of the store.
You want to call out to him, tell him that you were sorry for going off. You're not a confrontational person, so your reaction just now took you by surprise. Bile rises in your throat as you watch Eddie leave. You turn and run to the employee's lounge, slamming the door shut as you hurl your lunch into the toilet. Your fingers grip the wall tightly and you begin to dry heave once there is nothing left. Once your stomach settles you drop down onto the tiled floor, trying to catch your breath.
A few minutes go by when you hear a knock on the door. "Y/n, is everything okay?" Robin asks you from the other side.
"Yeah, I'll be out in a minute." Your voice sounds weak as you answer her. You rise to stand and go to wash your hands. Once you're done you splash cold water on your flushed face. 'What the fuck.' You wonder as you gaze at your reflection in the mirror. Was this whole situation so stressful that it was making you sick? Or was it the thought of things finally being over with Eddie that made you ill?
You honestly didn't know but you refused to dwell over it any longer. Taking a deep breath you opened the door with a fake smile plastered on your face.
"You okay," Robin asks when you appear back at the counter.
"No, but I will be," you reply with a strained smile but you're not convinced you will be.
Steve takes in your appearance noting how squeamish you look, a stark contrast to how you were when you first arrived. "Hey Y/n, if you're not feeling well you can leave early if you want. I think Robbie and I can manage," he says earning a smack on the back of his head from Robin.
"Yeah, I think that's for the best," you say, laughing in response to their antics. You begin to pack up your things and give them both a hug before making your departure.
The fresh air of the evening does little to settle your stomach and the nagging thought of something you had forgotten in the back of your mind. You make a pit stop at the local mart, unaware of the eyes watching your every step.
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
You sat on your bed with Clara, your fingers gripping the unopened pink box tightly. She listened intently as you told her the events of what happened a few days ago with Eddie. Her features shift with each detail you relay. Shock settles over her face once you end with the purchase you had made due to the absence of your period.
"Why haven't you taken it yet," she questions as she clasped your hand in yours. You blinked your eyes, trying desperately to stave off the tears threatening to escape.
"I'm scared," you admitted. "If I take this test, then it becomes real and then I'll have no choice but to deal with it." Your hands shake nervously, causing the box to fall onto the floor.
Clara bent down and picked up the box, pressing it back into your hands. "Y/n, this isn't something you can ignore. The longer you put it off the fewer options you'll have."
"I know, but what if it's positive? Things between Eddie and me are horrible right now. A baby will only complicate things even more." A few tears skip down your cheeks as your emotions began to overwhelm you.
"Whatever happens I'll be here for you okay? I'll even beat Eddie up for you if you want," she says, pulling you into a tight hug.
You laugh along with her as you hug her back. "I'll keep that in mind," you snicker as you get up from the bed, making your way into the bathroom. You close the door behind you and lean up against it. You take calming breaths as you read the instructions on the back of the box.
'Okay, remove cap and place tip into urine stream for five seconds. Replace cap, lay it flat, and wait for results, should be ready within five minutes. Seems easy enough,' you thought silently.
You will your hands to stop shaking as you unwrap the package and begin to follow the instructions listed on the box. Once finished you lay the test flat on the counter and began to wait. The seconds ticked by agonizingly slow and you become all too aware of the silence in the bathroom. The walls felt as if they were closing in on you with each minute that passed.
Your timer beeps on your watch, signaling that the test result was ready. Turning back towards the counter you eye the test warily. You could feel a trickle of sweat running along your spine as you start to perspire. 'This is crazy. Just pick it up and read it. It's not a big deal, it's not like this is going to change your life from this point in every single way.'
Exasperated, you sink down onto the edge of the tub. "Clara" you called out through the closed door.
"Yes!" She replied immediately, busting through the door.
You gesture towards the test on the counter. "I can't look," you said softly, letting your head fall into your hands. You stare at the patterns on the tile floor as you listen to her pick up the test.
A soft gasp fell from her lips making your blood run cold. "It's positive," she murmurs as she crouches down in front of you.
"Of course it's positive, I've never failed a test before. Guess I'm not going to start now huh." You laugh bitterly, shaking your head in disbelief.
"Y/n, it's going to be okay. Whatever you decide to do, it's going to be okay." She laid her hand on yours as you sat there in silence. "Are you going to tell Eddie," she asked.
"I don't know if I should. I mean, what would even be the point of that anyways? I don't want a pity relationship because he made the mistake of knocking me up." Your words come out heated and rushed as your anger washes over you.
"He deserves to know Y/n. Don't keep it from him because you're scared of what his response may be. You never know, maybe he'll step up, maybe he won't but you'll never know if you don't give him a chance." Clara's voice was firm and sure as she held your gaze.
"You're right, I'll tell him," you huff out a moment later.
She gives you a small smile before standing up and pulling you up along with her. "Fuck! Squatting like that made my legs hurt," she complained trying to shake the pins and needles feeling out of her legs. "I guess I'm getting too old for that now. Welp, no more blowjobs for Steve then," she jokes, crouching over and holding her back dramatically.
"Yeah right, I'll believe that when pigs fly," you laugh snorting obnoxiously as you follow her back into your room.
"You calling me a slut," Clara growls, her hand inching towards the pillows on your bed.
"Uh yeah. You and Steve are biggest the horndogs I've ever met," you retort grinning cheekily.
"You're gonna regret that Y/l/n," she yells, smacking you in the face with a pillow. You stand there for a moment in shock before springing into action, grabbing a pillow for your counterattack. Peels of laughter sound off in the room along with thumps from the pillow fight, giving you a welcome reprieve from the tough decisions sure to come.
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
Eddie sat perched atop his throne in the old theatre room, which was also their meeting place for all of their D&D campaigns. Drumming his fingers against the chipped wooden table, his patience began to wear thin as he waited for everyone to sit down and get situated. After a minute had passed, everyone was still talking animatedly to each other.
"Can we hurry this along please!" he yelled out, causing the room to go silent as all eyes snapped onto him. "Thank you," he said once he had everyone's attention. He had called an emergency meeting weeks ago as soon as Chrissy had told him her dreams had returned. Due to conflicts of schedule and the matter of long distance for some, it had taken a while to get everyone back together again.
"What's going on Eddie? Why are we all here," asked Dustin.
"Vecna's back," Eddie replied somberly, getting straight to the point. A few gasps of panic flew across the room at his announcement.
"Are you sure? I mean— how do you know, what happened?" Nancy questioned, her eyes flickering with concern.
Eddie began to explain what Chrissy had told him that day, omitting the part with you in it. He didn't need everyone to know about his relationship with you when he was still trying to fix the damage he'd caused.
"So why isn't she here if she's so scared that he's after her?" Max's voice was low and her expression held a look of skepticism. Something about this situation seemed off to her but she didn't want to jump to conclusions just yet.
"She had cheerleading practice," Eddie replied rubbing a hand across his face tiredly. Between Chrissy hanging onto him like a leech every chance she got and you avoiding him like a leper, he felt as if he was losing his mind. He hadn't had a proper sleep in weeks and it was beginning to show. His eyes were dull, sporting dark heavy-looking bags underneath each one.
Murmurs echo around the room at his response. "I'm sorry man but I call bullshit. I've seen Chrissy around town and she didn't look scared to me," said Steve.
"Why would she lie then huh? If you have an idea, then by all means please share it because I don't have a clue!" Eddies hands grip the arms of his chair as he struggles to regain control over his emotions.
"Are you okay Eddie?" Robin asked. She had never seen Eddie like this before and it was starting to scare her a little. After witnessing the scene between Eddie and you, she had the sinking feeling that this all had something to do with one another.
"Yeah— I'm fine, just a little tired is all. Now, can we please get back to the matter at hand?" Eddie hated being so dismissive toward his friend but he wanted to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.
"Well, I haven't felt anything from him. Honestly, I thought he was dead. I haven't felt this peaceful in a long time," Will replied in a soft voice.
"Me too," Max confirmed as others began to echo in agreeance.
"I think that settles it, dude. It sounds like Chrissy lied to you," Dustin said softly so only Eddie could hear him.
"I think you're right and I'm going to find out why." Eddies features were stony and everyone could see the shift in his demeanor. He adjourned the meeting, thanking everyone for coming and apologizing on Chrissy's behalf.
Before he left the room he tapped Robin on the shoulder, pulling her from her conversation with Steve. "Hey, I just wanted to apologize about earlier. I haven't been—, he started but Robin cut him off with a wave of her hand.
"Don't worry about it. There are no hard feelings okay? Just go handle whatever it is you need to with Chrissy. To be honest Eddie, I never liked her anyways," she tells him with a smirk.
Eddie gives her a quick hug before taking his leave. He was on a mission as he made his way hastily to the gym, determined to catch Chrissy before she left. He wanted an explanation as to why she had lied and he wasn't going to leave until she gave him one.
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
Chrissy's friend Alice stood to the side of the bleachers anxiously. The loud voices of Chrissy and Eddie rang out sharply throughout the gym. Standing in the shadows, she wasn't trying to be seen until the time was right.
The words lying bitch could be heard clearly throughout the room followed by a resounding slap. Chrissy stormed by quickly tears streaming down her face. She passed by quickly, not seeing Alice standing in the corner. Once the double doors had closed, Alice stepped from behind the bleachers into the light. Eddie stood close by with his head hanging down, his hair hiding his face. She cleared her throat lightly, gaining Eddie's attention immediately.
"Jesus Christ! You scared the shit out of me!" He yelped, holding a hand over his chest. His heartbeat was erratic as he took a deep breath to calm down before he had a premature death. "What do you want," he asked warily after he had regained control of his breathing. He knew you only through Chrissy and had never spoken to you alone before. If he was a betting man, he would bet that Chrissy didn't know you were here, especially right after the fight they'd just had.
"Chrissy doesn't know that I'm here," she said confirming his suspicions as she looked over her shoulder cautiously. Eddie nodded in response and she continued, wanting to get this over as soon as possible. She didn’t want Chrissy to find out about what she was about to do.
"Chrissy's been lying to you, Eddie. She's been seeing Jason behind your back the entire time you two were together," she whispered.
When Chrissy told her that she and Eddie didn't have sex, she was in disbelief. The reason why became even more obvious when she caught them hooking up in Jason's car during school once. Jason had later told her with a smug look on his face that he and Chrissy had always maintained a sexual relationship even after she had gotten with 'The Freak'.
When she confronted Chrissy, she only shrugged with a coy smile, "I get what I need from Jason and Eddie, what's the big deal?"
Alice had told her that it wasn't right but Chrissy didn't want to listen to reason, only warning her to stay out of it before flouncing away, her ponytail bouncing perkily behind her.
"Wow, I mean what the fuck. I know I have no room to talk but for her to pretend to be so innocent when she's just as bad is fucking insane." Eddie's eyes were big as he ran his hands through his hair.
He had tried before to initiate a sexual relationship with Chrissy but she had told him she wanted to wait until marriage. He had accepted her decision, not wanting to pressure her into something she didn't want but he couldn't deny that the thought of why things were the way they were didn't cross his mind at times. Boys tended to talk and he knew that she wasn't a virgin because of Jason, so the new information just revealed to him, answered the questions he's had for a long time.
"Thanks for telling me," he said finally, looking over to Clara. "I know that couldn't have been easy."
"You're welcome, Eddie. I know I can be a bitch sometimes but I like to think that I'm still a good person," she said as she began to walk away. Before reaching the doors, she turned around to look over her shoulder at him. "Eddie be careful with Chrissy. She's not the same anymore and I'm afraid of what she may do if things don't go her way."
He nodded in response and watched as she walked through the doors, her ominous warning of Chrissy repeating over and over in his head.

You're lost in your thoughts as you walk along the crowded hallways. You had spent the entire weekend trying to figure out how to tell Eddie you were pregnant. The last time you talked, it ended horribly and you were kinda ashamed to have to approach him again so soon. You were sure that after how you treated him, he didn't want to speak to you again.
As you neared your classroom a hand snatched you into a nearby closet, closing the door briskly behind you. "What the hell," you shrieked before a hand clasped over your mouth keeping you silent.
"Shhh Y/n, it's just me," Eddie whispered as he clicked on the overhead light.
You snatch his hand from your mouth, looking upward at him. "I knew that Eddie. You are literally the only person who snatches me into closets at random."
"Yeah, you're right," he says laughing awkwardly. He rubs the back of his neck as he takes a moment to look at you. It feels as if he hasn't gotten a chance to really look at you in forever. His heart flutters nervously as you stare back into his eyes. The speech he had prepared, long forgotten at the sight of you.
You were also experiencing something similar as you began to malfunction at being in such close proximity with Eddie. An apology sits at the top of your tongue for the way you treated him before but you quickly swallow it back down as quickly as it comes. "What do you want," you question once you finally begin to settle from the mental Olympics your mind is going through.
"I wanted to talk to you. I know that our last conversation didn't end well and I want to apologize to you." He takes a deep breath in an attempt to settle his nerves before continuing.
"I let my emotions get the best of me and I reacted poorly. I know that you're probably getting tired of me apologizing and I promise to do better— I want to be better for you. Whenever I'm with you, I feel better about myself. Even though we haven't had the chance to be together, I'm sure of how I feel about you. You don't have to worry about me and Chrissy anymore because I've handled that situation and it's completely over, I promise you. So please Y/n, please take a chance on me and I promise I won't let you down again ever." His eyes are big and wet as he looks down at you pleadingly.
You lean back up against the door as you consider his words. The fierceness in his eyes is endearing, making you want to believe him this time, but there is still a nagging thought in the back of your mind. You still feel that there is something that Eddie isn't telling you. Until you know the real reason he broke his promise and chose to stay with Chrissy, you can't forgive him just yet. "I want to trust you Eddie but for me to do that, you have to be completely honest with me. I don't want to start a relationship on a half-truth."
Something akin to fear flashes across Eddie's face before disappearing quickly. His features relax again as he takes your hands into his hesitantly, pulling you in closer. "Y/n— there's a lot of things that's happened in Hawkins in the past couple of years. A lot of things have been kept from the public for safety reasons," he pauses to make sure that you are still following him. "I'll tell you everything but I need you to keep an open mind okay? I know that what I tell you may be hard to believe but just trust me okay?"
You nod your head slowly as your heart begins to race. You're not sure what it is he is about to tell you but you have the feeling that it will change everything moving forward. Just as he opens his mouth to speak, the tardy bell rings announcing that you both are late for class.
"Fuck! Can you follow me to my house after school?" He says hopefully, resting his hand on the doorknob behind you.
"Yeah," you reply breathlessly as he leans in closer to you, resting his forehead against yours. Your eyes flutter close as his nose brushes against yours, his breath is warm as it fans across your face pleasantly.
The sound of the second bell rings and the moment is gone. Disappointment is clear on both of your faces as he pulls back, giving you room to move away from the door. "Later?" His eyes are bright, filled with hope and longing.
"Later," you smile squeezing his hand gently before slipping through the door. Eddie waits a second before taking his leave as well. His smile is big and wide as he walks into class, even after his teacher tears him a new one for being late once again, his smile never fades.
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
You rush out of class once the final bell rings and you head to the parking lot, eager to meet Eddie as planned. After you have your talk with Eddie, you'll have to go straight to work, so you're grateful that you were able to get the car from your mom this morning. You spot Eddie in the crowded lot once you make it to your car. He gives you an excited wave and you wave back with a shy smile.
You both enter your cars and you began to follow him as he leaves the school. As you're driving out of the lot you pass by Chrissy standing near her car. She stares at you with a blank expression as you pass by. Your eyes meet and you hold her gaze before looking away to safely follow the traffic.
"Crazy bitch," you mutter under your breath. You shake it off mentally, you refuse to let her ruin the good mood you were in. You're anxious about what Eddie is going to tell you. Optimism is flowing through you and you can feel your walls lowering for what could be. You hope that he'll be receptive to the news you have for him as well.
Your hands begin to shake as your mind wanders at what his reaction will be. You had planned on telling him today but you're not sure you'll have time after he reveals whatever the secret is he's been holding in.
Before you know it you are pulling into the trailer park behind Eddie. You follow closely as he passes by several trailers before pulling into what you assumed was his home. You park behind him and get out of your car.
Eddie walks over to you with a smile, taking your hand into his, and leads you up the steps. As you both enter his home you notice the trailer is a little on the small side but has a homey feel to it that you find charming.
"Welcome to my humble abode," Eddie says bowing at the waist as you walk into his room. You giggle in response as you sidestep some articles of clothing and stand awkwardly beside his bed. His room is for the most part clean, albeit a little disorganized.
You're not sure if you should sit or stand so you choose to wait for him to tell you what to do. You act as if you're strangers as if Eddie hasn't been inside of you and made you cum in almost every way.
Eddie closes his door, kicking off his shoes. "Make yourself comfortable sweetheart, mi casa su casa." He takes a seat next to you on his bed and takes your hand into his.
"I'm so happy you agreed to listen to what I have to say. I was afraid that you would never talk to me again after last time," he says honestly. He feels happy but also nervous for what he is about to expose you to. He knows that everyone will be pissed at him for getting you involved but he could care less. At this point he would do anything to get you back, he would even travel through Mordor unarmed for you.
"Me too Eddie," you reply sweetly. Your heart skips a beat as he presses a kiss to your knuckles. "Eddie, before you begin, I just want to say I'm sorry for how I acted the last time we spoke. It wasn't unnecessary and I said some things that I didn't mean." Your head drops down and you look at your lap, unable to meet his gaze.
He lifts your chin with his ringed finger. "I already forgave you, baby. There's nothing to apologize for," he whispers against your hand still pressed to his lips. You smile as a heated flush creeps up your neck and settles on your face.
Eddie smiles at your response before he begins "As I said before sweetheart, what I'm going to tell you may be hard to believe but just know that everything I say is the truth." He licks his lips as he prepares to tell you the truth about Hawkins.
His eyes are wide, filled with warmth that eases any doubts you may have had before. You nod your head and you listen intently as he begins to tell you a tale so bizarre that it sounds like it's straight from a movie scene.
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
You wave goodbye to Robin and Steve as you walk across the dark parking lot toward your car. Your mind races as you fumble with your keys to unlock the car. Hours have passed since your conversation with Eddie but you're still in shock.
The story he had told you felt too bizarre to be true. But when you sat back and thought about all of the strange occurrences that's happened, his explanation was more reasonable than what the media had portrayed. You were correct before when you thought that you wouldn't have time to tell him your truth. He had taken hours to go over everything with you and by the time he was done you were late for work.
You promised that you wouldn't tell anyone about what he had revealed to you, including Steve and Robin. He wanted to keep everyone oblivious to the fact that you knew everything, for now. You smiled to yourself, the way he worried over your safety made your heart clench in happiness and hope that he would be open to what you had to tell him.
A noise startles you from behind and you drop your keys in fear. You were on edge and every little sound was making you jump. Bending down you scoop up your keys swiftly, fear pumping through you as you slot your keys in the lock. You climb into your car swiftly, slamming the door behind you.
Your heart is pounding as you look behind you out of your car windows. For a moment there you could've sworn that you heard footsteps behind you. Taking a deep breath you start your car and head back to Eddie's house. He had invited you back to his house after work once you told him that you had something important to tell him as well. Your mom was out of town visiting family and you hoped that if things ended well, you could spend the weekend with Eddie.
So wrapped up in your thoughts you didn't see the car behind you until it slammed into you, causing you to swerve hazardously before regaining control.
"What the fuck," you yell in surprise. Your eyes fly to your rearview mirror and you're blinded by the harsh light reflecting from the beams.
You realize with a start that the reason you didnt notice them was that they didnt have on their lights until just now. They obviously didn't want you to notice them until it was too late. The car behind you rams into you again and you jerk forward from the impact. A cry leaves your lips as you step on the gas, you have to get away from this person before they kill you.
The other car is right on your tail as you bend the corner dangerously. Sweat coats your entire body as your adrenaline skyrockets. No matter how fast you go, the unknown assailant is right behind you.
The roads are dark and empty as you both race along the paved road. You cry in relief when you realize that you're a few minutes away from Eddie's house. No sooner than the thought enters your mind, they slam into you violently, and the wheel jerks as you lose control of the car. Your car veers off the road and your wheels screech as you skid across the pavement. A silent scream leaves your mouth as you realize that you are headed straight for the treeline.
As you brace for impact, your last thoughts are of Eddie, how you didn't get to tell him you were pregnant and that you never got the chance to tell him that you loved him. Your thoughts are filled with him as glass breaks around you with a sickening crunch and everything fades to black.

January 1991
Steve’s POV
“Pick up, pick up, pick up.” He taps his foot on the linoleum, the buzzing overhead lights causing him to squint through his already painful migraine. Your phone goes to voicemail again, and Steve all but slams the payphone down onto the receiver. “Fuck!” He huffs, turning back down the hall, defeated.
In his room, Eddie sleeps on the hospital bed under a thin blanket. There’s a tube in his nose, but the doctor said the word stable, leaving Steve some time to call you. Not that it mattered. Even if you had answered, what would he have said? Would you even want to know?
July 1991
Eddie’s POV
It’s been a whole year since he’d seen you, but there you were. Right in front of him, dancing with a small redhead covered in tattoos, a plastic cup in one hand, the other in the air. He already knows he won’t go over, won’t approach you, or even try to violate your field of vision. But he can’t bring himself to look away from you, the way your shirt clings to your body perfectly, the way your skirt lands right below the curve of your ass, your exposed legs going on for miles. He drinks you in from afar, without caring how creepy it feels, seeing you without your knowledge, It’s day eighty nine, but Eddie turns to the bartender and orders a drink.
Present Day
Your POV
It just doesn’t make sense. If Steve had known about Eddie’s problem like he claims, then why on earth had he let him drink himself stupid? Your brain tries to rationalize your best friend’s choice, but you come up with nothing. There is no good reason for what Steve did. Didn’t he pride himself on taking care of his friends?
You sit up as the bus starts moving, preparing to confront Steve before quickly remembering he’s on the other bus. Instead, you find Robin reading a beaten copy of On The Road in the breakfast nook, and drop down beside her, sighing.
She glances up but doesn’t speak, eyebrow cocked as you pout for her full attention. She dog ears her page, making a show of sitting up straight, like a proper catholic girl in class.
“I’m having a dilemma.” You state, refusing to let your voice crack. “I need an outside perspective.” Really, you need someone to tell you what you want to hear, but you can’t say that.
“I’m all ears, babe.”
“This whole thing with Eddie,” You ignore her not so subtle eye roll. “Something’s just not right. Steve knew, y’know, about Eddie’s drinking. He told me himself he’d been aware, even before I was.”
“Okay…”
“But Eddie had been drinking, when tour started. A lot. And Steve definitely knew, because he’d been the one to carry him to bed most of the time.”
“What exactly is your dilemma in this scenario?”
“Why was he watching his friend backslide? Why didn’t he do a fucking thing to help him?” You can’t keep your voice from weavering, and you choke on your breath. “I don’t get how he could claim to care for Eddie, to love him, and let him do that to himself. Not after-” You stop, not knowing what Robin should and shouldn’t know.
“After what?”
“After everything, I guess.”
“Listen to me, honey. Eddie is a grown man, so’s Steve. Sure, we’re all buddy buddy, but when it comes down to it, we can’t always play heroes.”
“What, so we’re supposed to be okay watching Eddie slowly kill himself?”
Robin pinches between her eyes, deep in thought. “No, of course not. But at some point, talking to a wall is gonna get old. But, hey! Eddie hasn’t had a drink in weeks, right? So why the worry now?”
You shake your head. “I guess I’m just nervous. We have a month off, and I don’t know where i’m gonna go. I could go to my place in Boston, or go back to Seattle. I just-”
“You’re worried about Eddie.” For once you’re grateful for how easily she can read you.
“I am.”
“You want my advice? Play it by ear. No one said that you have to stay away from him now that business hours are over. You can afford to reconnect with him, in the real world.” She makes a point, but what exactly is the real world? The world you know is barely real, and the one you’d known before it felt even less so. Sometimes you wish you’d died in the Upside Down, at least then you wouldn’t have known such a profound kind of pain.
Eddie’s POV
“Tomorrow night, we play our last show of the first leg of the Freak Show Tour,” Eddie announces to his bandmates crowded around the small breakfast table of the tour bus. “We will rock this house like we have rocked no other, a grand finale they will wish they televised!” The response is various whoops and cheers from his friends, and a small smile from Steve as he stands aside with his arms crossed. “Let’s make sure the state of… uh…” Eddie places a hand to his mouth, stage whispering to Steve, “Where are we?”
“Delaware.”
“Let’s make sure the state of Delaware can’t prepare for what we’re about to give ‘em!” Eddie hollers, and his friends join in as the bus pulls around the back of the hotel parking lot.
He swipes his key card as he catches you unlocking the door next to him. “Hey neighbor.” He winks, feeling awfully bold after a long trip without seeing you.
“Hey, Eds.” You send him a smile that makes his heart skip, and he curses himself for being so easily bent out of shape. You and him are friends. Friends with a long, frustrating history, but friends nonetheless. “You ready for the mid tour finale?” He asks, awkwardly shifting to lean against the doorframe.
He catches as your face falls the slightest bit. “Yeah, I guess so. It’s gonna be weird, I think.”
“How so?”
You shrug. “I dunno. We’ve been on the road for like a month now. It almost feels normal. I won’t know what to do with myself when I’m back at home.”
He must be mistaken, but your words sound almost like an invitation, a cracked door. “Where’s home for you?” He asks, ignoring how tacky it must sound.
Your POV
It takes a lot to bite your tongue before you blurt, “You,” but you manage.”I uh, I think I’m going back to Boston. Might as well, it’s where we start back up again.” It will be August then, and you’ll have heard for sure whether you’re playing one of the biggest music festivals of the year. You still haven’t told Eddie, and at this point you aren’t sure what you’d say. “What about you? Where are you headed?”
Eddie sucks his top lip between his teeth in thought. “Maybe LA, or I’ll hold myself to my promise to visit Wayne. Depends.”
“On what?” It sounds like a challenge.
“On if I want to face my guilt or keep running from it. Or something equally dramatic.”
You snort, pretty eyes rolling back into your head. “Please.”
“What?”
“Don’t be shitty. Let yourself feel guilty, god knows you deserve to. Visit Wayne, at least for a while.”
“Why does it matter to you what I do?” He doesn’t mean for the words to come out as harshly as they do.
“Believe it or not, Ed, you still matter to me. Very much. And if you let yourself be miserable, we’ll all have to put up with your bullshit when we come back. Do us all the favor. Go home.” You swipe your card again, entering your room before Eddie can respond.
It shouldn’t matter. You and Eddie aren’t what you used to be, no matter how hard you delude yourself into thinking you can get back there. That possibility feels long gone, completely unreachable at your current status. You have to settle.
You walk over to the big window in your room, drawing back the heavy shades to reveal the setting sun and city of Dover below. You lay back on the bed, the fluffy pillows soothing you quickly to sleep.
A knock on your door rattles you awake. The digital clock on your nightstand reads 11:30 PM, and you groan as you roll onto your feet. Another round of heavy knocking makes you scurry faster to the door.
“What?!” You demand, flinging the door back to reveal a disheveled Steve clad in a wrinkled tank top and linen pajama pants. “Oh good, you’re awake.” Steve shoves past you and into the room without an invite, causing you to spin on your heel to face him.
“Well, I am now! What the hell is going on?”
“I can’t find him.”
“Who?”
“Eddie!”
Good fucking god. “He’s not in his room?”
Steve looks at you like you’ve asked the dumbest question in the world. You suppose you have. “No. He went out. Didn’t seem like he was okay.” Steve holds his face in his hands. “I’ve called all the bars in the area, no one’s said they’ve seen him. He could be on the street somewhere, he could-”
“Okay, enough!” Of course he’s worried, but you’re fed up with Steve’s inability to be consistent. “Where was this attitude a month ago? When he was drinking himself silly before every show, when he would beg for whiskey the mornings after? You let him relapse, and now you’re worried?” You don’t realize you’re yelling until someone next door bangs on the wall, demanding you shut up.
“What are you talking about?” Steve sniffs, lifting his head to look at you.
“Steve, you’d known this whole time that Eddie has a problem. You’ve been letting him indulge in it, doing almost nothing. Now you’re surprised he’s gone out without telling you? Seriously?”
“There is only so much I can do to stop him, Y/n, you have to know that. I had to watch him vomit all over himself while I waited for the paramedics, I had to watch him detox in that hospital bed. Then I had to watch him relapse. Not just last month, but last year. He fell off the wagon after eighty nine days, Y/n, eighty nine. You wanna know why?” He waits for you to answer, but you’re not sure you want to. “Because he saw you at a gig. In New York, last July. He called me that night, told me everything. Told me he was sorry, that he was a waste of my time, all that shit. Made me promise to never try to save him again.” Steve’s in tears when he finishes, and you feel your own start to fall. “I have kept my mouth shut because I promised, but I worry about him every day. Well, until lately. He’s been so much happier, and there’s no use even arguing why that must be. But he’s not your responsibility either, I know that. It’s not fair of me to be putting any expectations on you. I just thought you might know where he is.”
You drop onto the mattress beside Steve, resting your head on his shaking shoulder. “I think I might know where he is. We can’t go there, though.”
“Why not?”
“It’s supposed to be anonymous.” You hope to every god that you’re right.
Eddie’s POV
“I haven’t been to a meeting in about a year,” Eddie starts, addressing the small group in front of him, sitting in a circle of folding chairs in the basement of a church. “But today is the two year anniversary of the worst day of my life. I guess it’s getting to me lately.”
“What happened two years ago?” The woman running the meeting encourages Eddie. She’s an older woman, with sandy blonde hair and a wrinkled, kind face.
“I ruined the best thing I could have ever asked for. I lost the love of my life, walked out on them for the last time after months of doing whatever I felt like with their feelings…
July 1990
“We can’t do this anymore.” You’re talking to the ceiling, arms resting on top of your chest, you don’t look at him. He’s next to you, stuck to the bed with sweat, breathing in your scent that begins to suffocate him. He knew this day was coming. You’d been seeing each other for about a month now, after half a year of not speaking.You’d fallen victim to his drunken pleas, as well as what Eddie suspects is your own self hatred.
“What are you talking about?” He plays dumb, hoping you’ll chicken out of leaving him for a second time.
“This,” You motion to the room around you. “I can’t see you anymore. It’s too much.”
“Too much?” Eddie sits up, and wills the room to stop spinning.
“Every time you come over, you’re wasted. You’re miserable most of the time, and the times you aren’t you’re hopped up on blow. It’s like you’ve added me to your list of fucking bad habits. I don’t want to be that for you anymore.” Your tone is ice cold, not a hint of sadness or anger in your voice at all. It chills Eddie to his core.
“Fine.” Eddie huffs, shoving himself out of bed. “Makes perfect sense, you telling me all this after I fuck your brains out. Made sure to get what you wanted first, right?”
“Eddie, come on,” You go to move, but Eddie tucks the blanket back over you.
“No, really, it’s fine. Ten minutes ago you were telling me how much you missed me, how good it felt. Now you’re cutting me off? Just like that?” Eddie shoves his legs clumsily into his jeans, cursing under his breath when his toe gets caught in a hole. “We talked about this. This was supposed to be purely physical, remember? You agreed to that.”
“I did, I know. But I agreed before I could understand that you’re… well, different.”
“Different how?” He snaps. You hesitate, picking anxiously at your fingernails. “Y/n?”
“You’re mean, Eddie. You’re cold. You don’t care how you make me feel, or rather, how you don’t make me feel when you sleep over. I’ve had to fake it. Beyond that, I can’t even make conversation with you. I feel used. It’s lonely.”
He sees red. Eddie gathers up his jacket, and his still half full beer bottle from the nightstand. “Fuck you,” He spits, tossing things aside as he searches for his keys. “Y’know what, yeah. We’re done.” He gulps the rest of the drink down before slamming the bottle into the bin.
“We can’t be done if we weren’t anything to begin with.” Your words bite, despite them originally being his own from when he’d come up with such a stupid agreement. “And we won’t have to break up, because this isn’t a thing.” He’d seduced you after a show one night, high out of his mind. He’d never expected you to agree to it.
“Perfect,” He snaps, daring himself to look at you. Your eyes are wet, but you’re stoic. You don’t tremble, you don’t heave or scream or shudder. “I don’t ever want to see your face again.” He doesn’t mean that, and he regrets the words as soon as they leave his mouth. But he can’t take them back now. “We don’t know each other.”
“I don’t think we ever did.” Your final words ring loudly in his ears as he slams the door behind him.
The group waits patiently for Eddie to finish, and he wipes a tear he hadn’t noticed from his cheek.
“You say you see this person frequently now?” The woman asks, and Eddie nods.
“We’re on tour together. Tomorrow’s our last show ‘til next month. Needed a meeting a little extra tonight, I guess.” It’s past midnight, this group being one that meets in the late hours to cater to night shift workers.
“Well, we thank you for sharing with us tonight, Eddie.”
“Thank you, Eddie.” The group responds as if on cue. The meeting is dismissed shortly after, and Eddie makes his way to the table for complementary stale coffee and doughnuts.
“You’re really brave for coming here.” The voice is small, taking Eddie a second to register. He turns around to face a girl who can’t be older than seventeen. “I’m Macy. Addict.”
“Hi, Macy.” Eddie greets her like he’s reciting a script. “I dunno about brave. That’s probably the last thing I feel right now.”
“Well, think of it like this. You could have gone to a bar, or a club to try and score. You came here instead. That’s brave.”
He shrugs. “I guess you’re right.”
“And they still love you, y’know. That doesn’t just go away.”
“How would someone your age know so much about something like that?”
Macy shrugs. “I follow the tabloids. I know who you are. I won’t say anything, obviously. But I’ve been watching you, with them. I’ve seen the photos, and the music doesn’t leave much to the imagination.”
“You can’t believe everything you read.” He’s not sure whether to take her word, she seems so genuine.
“Maybe not, but I believe this.”
Eddie gives her a sad smile before saying goodbye. She waves him off with a warm smile.
Once outside, he lights a cigarette, letting the smoke fill his lungs as he closes his tired eyes. The exhaustion has washed over him, and he’s ready to be dragged under when he hears footsteps approaching.
Your POV
He opens his eyes and meets them with yours, heavy from lack of sleep. “Hi.” You wave shyly, like you’ve never met him.
“How’d you find me here?” He flicks ash onto the concrete.
“Saw the flier in the lobby when we came in. Checked it again and saw one less tab on the bottom. Minor detective work.” You smile, despite the exhaustion written on your face. His cheeks warm.
“You alone?”
You nod. “Took a world of convincing Steve not to come with me. I think I’ve sedated him, though.”
“Shit, he that worried?”
You shrug. “You know how he gets. He’ll be glad to know you’re okay, though.”
“What, did you think I’d gone on a run too?”
“No, actually. It was my idea to check here. Relieved as shit that I’m right.”
“Yeah, me too.”
You stretch your hand out to hold as the doors swing open, a herd of people filing out. A small girl with a sweet face sends Eddie a smile, and winks at you before getting into a cab, and you turn to find him blushing.
“Friend of yours?”
He chuckles. “Guess you could say that.” He entwines his fingers with yours without waiting for an invitation. All too familiar touches, worlds away from where you’d stood only a month ago. “So,” He starts, swinging his arm and yours as you start back toward the hotel, “were you worried about me?” His tone is teasing, tinged with what can only be described as hope.
You can feel your cheeks warm and you suck your bottom lip between your teeth. “Guess you could say that.” You squeeze his hand. “But that’s nothing new. I’m always worried about you.”
July 1990
Your POV
“It’s over,” You’re sobbing into the receiver, barely able to hear Steve’s sigh on the other end. Relief? Disappointment? You can’t tell, your senses are blunted only by the thought of him.
“Are you okay? Wait, stupid question,” Steve stumbles on the other line, unsure of how to comfort you. “Can I do anything?”
You shake your head before you remember he can’t see you. “No, no. I’ll be alright. I ended it. I had to. He’s not the same person I fell in love with. I know that now.”
“Maybe, but there’s a lot you don’t know.”
“Do I want to know?”
Steve waits a beat before answering, the static of the line filling your head. “No, I don’t think you do.”
You talk for an hour before you feel your eyelids grow heavy, and say your goodbyes before hanging up. You are once again in silence. Alone. In a fit of rage— or of heartbreak, you’re not sure, you fall to your knees and let go. You haven’t cried like this in months, the kind of cry that leaves you hoarse and tired, but tonight, in the dark of your bedroom, you cry for the person you used to know.
Eddie’s POV
“Thank you, Denver! Goodnight!” The crowd erupts into cheers, pleas for a second encore, and Eddie’s sure he can see women in the front row tearing their bras off to throw onstage. The house speakers blast Talking Heads Burning Down The House as kids make their way to the exit. Eddie slides through the crowd of techs and stagehands backstage, making his way to the green room to collapse on the weathered couch.
“That was fucking incredible!” Jeff exclaims, clapping his calloused hands together. “Best show so far, I think.”
“Psh, that was nothin’, wait ‘til you see what Boston can do.” You’re sitting in the rickety recliner, a cigarette between your fingers, still dressed in your stage clothes. Your skin shines with sweat and glitter, cheeks rosy from exertion. You’re most stunning like this, Eddie thinks.
“Yeah? You willing to bet on that?” He jokes.
“Oh, more than willing!” You chuckle, stubbing out your smoke in the ashtray next to you. “But tonight, I turn in early.” You make a point to stand up, stretching your arms above your head. Eddie’s eyes fall to your midsection, exposed to him while you sort out your limbs. You’d think he’d never seen skin, the way he feels his skin burn at the sight of your stomach.
“Aw, it’s our last night together!” Sylvie whines, shoving you playfully. “One drink?”
Eddie waits with bated breath, and swears your eyes dart to his before you answer.
“Fine. One drink.”
Eddie doesn’t follow you to the bar, he knows better. Tonight has already been difficult, knowing he has nowhere to go after tonight, nowhere he wants to go, anyway. He digs through his duffel bag until he finds his long ignored copy of Tighten Up. He wants more of you, somehow. He’s still desperate to know how you’d felt, those horrible years apart.
He skips to the title track, tucking his hair behind his ears before equipping the headphones. The song greets him with the static of an amp, followed by the clicking of drumsticks. When it kicks in, the song is full, clearly a whole band effort. Robin’s bass cuts through with a funky riff, layered underneath dirty guitars and heavy drums. He’s sure the song can’t get better until your voice slices through the music
Dared myself to stand back up, / After all these wasted tears, / Felt my heart sew itself together, / After all that wear ‘n’ tear. / I let you turn your back on me, / I watched you walk away, / And ‘til now I let myself believe / I was supposed to die that way. / But now I’ve tightened up my heart, / I’ve locked away the pain, / and I don’t have much left to give, / without asking for the same.
You tell a story of a broken soul, fighting its way through the dark on its own. The music swells as you belt the chorus, and Eddie can almost feel his fingers hurt during your guitar solo. Robin’s backing vocals fill out your lead, and the buzz of the snare drum carries out the bridge.
When the song fades, Eddie takes his headphones off, needing to digest what he’s just heard. This one might just be his favorite on the album, at least so far. It feels like the pinnacle, the turning point of the story told by the tracks. He’s heard it live, sure, but something about hearing the way it’s produced gives him more of an idea of what you’d been feeling in the moment.
He has an overwhelming urge to see you. He launches himself out of bed, gathering himself as best he can for being so frazzled. He’s in sweatpants, a tattered t-shirt draped loosely over his form, hair pulled into a low ponytail to keep from tangling. He goes to turn the knob, but stops when he hears voices in the hall.
“I can’t believe it.” You’re wasted, words slurring together between hiccups and giggles. Eddie can picture you, rosy cheeked and stumbling, clawing for his arm to support your swaying weight, and his heart lurches as if to grab you through the door. “We’re playing fucking Lollapalooooooza!” You howl the word, and he hears Steve shush you as Robin cackles.
“Hey, hey!” Steve stage whispers, trying to silence you. “Don’t go gloating about it.”
“Why not?” He can almost hear your pout, and he chuckles to himself.
“I don’t wanna deal with you pissing Eddie off.”
“Y’know, Stevie, he’s gonna find out one way or another. Might as well come from me. Besides, he’s different. He’s happier, I think. I dunno. I hope he’s happy, he deserves to be happy.” Eddie’s heart swells as he listens to your tangent, but you’re not done yet. “I wish I could make him happy again. I feel like, whatever I do, I make it worse.” Your voice is cracking, whether from overuse or from trying not to cry, Eddie can’t tell. Now he has to see you. He goes to turn the knob again, but there’s a knock on his door at the very same moment.
Eddie opens the door almost as soon as you’re finished knocking, wafting your scent of lavender and vanilla into his nostrils.
“Hi,” You exhale the word, and Eddie can’t help when his lips twitch upward before he lets his grin free. “Needed to see you.”
“What a coincidence.” He tries not to let his excitement show, standing aside to let you in. “What’s goin’ on?”
“I have to tell you something. Well, I don’t have to. But I want to. You were the only person I wanted to tell, actually. I hope you’re not mad, though. I don’t know what I’d do if you were.”
“Hey, whoa, slow down,” Eddie rushes to where you sit on the edge of his bed, spiraling as the liquor tightens its hold on you. “Why would I get upset?”
You shrug lamely. “I dunno. Just, need you to be happy for me right now. Please be happy for me.” It’s a hoarse whisper, a plea meant for his ears only.
“Oh, sweetheart,” He doesn’t know where to put his hands, so he settles for resting one clammy palm on your leg. “You can tell me anything you want.” He knows what’s coming. You’re playing the biggest festival in the States. Something he’s dreamed about since the festival came to be. Of course it hurts, but Eddie can push that aside to be happy for you. He knows better.
You don’t continue, though. Instead, you scoot further into his side, nuzzling into his shoulder like a needy cat. Despite his aching heart, Eddie wraps his arm around you, letting you further into his hold. Your breathing slows back to normal, and Eddie has no desire to move from this spot. Tomorrow, you go back to Boston, and Eddie fucks off somewhere to wait out the month until he gets to see you again. He can indulge for one more night.
“I do have stuff to tell you,” You say finally, “but not right now. Right now, I sleep.” You hum, and he scoffs. Surely you won’t remember this tomorrow, so he decides not to push you. Eddie slides out from where you rest, laying you back into the mattress. He slips off your shoes and jeans, careful not to tug at anything else. He then tucks the blanket up to your chin, and starts to make a place for himself on the floor when your hand shoots out, snatching his wrist.
“Please, sleep here.” You pat the bed next to you, and he melts at the gesture. Your eyes are almost completely closed, hair wild from dancing, sweating, whatever you’d been doing tonight.
“You’re drunk, sweets. You’ll be upset in the morning.” He doesn’t want to deny you, especially in your softened, sleepy state.
“No!” You shake your head vigorously, wincing at the movement. “No, I won’t. Please, Eddie,” and he’s a goner. Of course he surrenders, and tucks himself into the warm bed next to you. You snuggle into him like it’s instinct, making a home on his chest as he lay stiffly with an arm around you, waiting for you to get comfortable.
You let out a sigh, your breathing slowing, arms wrapped around him with surprising strength. Eddie’s mind starts to wander back to the song, how someone is capable of two such wonderful emotional extremes.
Your mumbling tickles his neck, pulling him from his head. He doesn’t quite catch the words.
“What was that?” He coos, enjoying your touches, your breath on his skin. He could live here.
“I said, ‘I love you, Eddie.’” The words come out strung together, but to Eddie they puncture with each syllable. “G’night.” And before he can respond, you’re snoring.
Eddie, once ready to retire for the evening, is now completely wired, feeling you drift into dreamland next to him, as if you haven’t just upended everything.

Tumblr media
You’ve always been a fan of the baseball team at your school. You weren’t a diehard sports person, but you were supportive, nonetheless, for you had a friend in the team. Satou Hiroshi.
You always waited for him during his practices, so you were well-acquainted with the team... Some of them, anyway.
You knew of Abe, and the... conflict he got himself involved in– the one that temporarily halted any games that PK Academy’s team were scheduled to play in.
However, that didn’t stop the team from practicing. “For Abe,” they’d say. You’re well-aware of everyone’s quirks, sometimes it even felt cliché.
“Satou, has your team got practice today?”
Satou nods at you. With a smile, he asks, “Will you watch again? I heard Nendou from 2-3 is joining us as a substitute.”
“Oh! The one who saved you guys during that one game! I hope his friends tag along.” You laugh.
Satou has a surprised look on his face. “Are you friends with them– Do you like one of them?”
You shake your head. “Not really. But, the one with pink hair is kind of cute.”
“Ehh? The... What’s his name... Saito? Wait, no, Saiki? Really?”
You nod at Satou, though the slight judginess in his tone has you confused. “Why? Do you not like him?”
Satou quickly shakes his head. “It’s not like that at all! I just think he’s, erm, kind of weird? I don’t know, I saw him once by the gate reading Weekly Jump and drinking peach juice–”
“Aren’t those things that you like too?”
A blush spreads across Satou’s face as he nods, and you can’t help the laugh that escapes you.
Satou doesn’t say anything else. You continue talking, “I mean, I don’t know. There just aren’t a lot of cute people in school that aren’t... weirdos? No offense.”
“Are you... calling me weird?”
You excitedly point to Nendou and his friends, changing the subject of the conversation. “Look, there they are!”
Satou turns to where you’re pointing, and a slight smile graces his face. “I’m glad. Although, just Nendou wouldn’t be able to fill in all the missing positions.”
“Ah, you guys are missing Abe, right?”
Satou nods, a mix of sadness and hope present on his face. “If only he were here... Surely, the whole team would be all the more motivated.”
You just give a slight chuckle in response. You think, Yeah. With the way things seem to work for you guys, there’s going to be something cliche, like, Abe showing up. Haha.
...
The day for the game finally came. You weren’t expecting to see Abe on the stands (maybe you were), yet, there he was.
He walks away from his seat, seemingly in defeat. You’ve seen the team practice for the last few weeks for this game– there is no way in hell were you letting the old star walk away just like that. You follow him outside, quietly.
So does Saiki.
Okay, I tell him not to quit on his own team, yes–!
Abe gets hit on the head with a lost ball and falls down to the ground.
OH MY GOD.
You make yourself hidden somewhere, fumbling around your uniform for your phone in the hopes of contacting Satou and getting Abe the first aid he needs. As you do all that, you take quick glances at Abe.
Preoccupied by his own thoughts, Saiki doesn’t quickly pick up on your presence. This isn’t until your thoughts start to get louder. You witness him using his astral projection to take possession of Abe’s body.
You can only watch in terror as Abe’s once unconscious body stands up and boredly dusts himself off.
Okay. Just walk up to Abe and... Wait– Abe-slash-Saiki, and ask what the hell is going on.
Abe/Saiki starts walking towards you. You frown. This is it, I guess.
“What– What happened? What did you do?”
“Astral projection,” Abe/Saiki calmly replies. He says the next thing like it isn’t a big deal. At all. “I just took over his body. His spirit’s still in here, don’t worry. I’m telling you all this since you’re a witness.”
“You make this sound like a crime...” You crouch down to Saiki’s actual body. “You’re Saiki, right? Saiki Kusuo?”
Abe/Saiki nods. It takes everything in you to not curiously remove Saiki’s tinted green glasses and put them on for yourself.
Strictly, he tells you, “Don’t touch me. I’ll hide me somewhere.”
Oh. Okay. You don’t question his words. (You try not to.)
“I’m classmates with Toritsuka. He talks about you a lot.” I’ve got to stop thinking I’m talking to Abe. It’s so clearly not him! His face is devoid of emotion... I’m talking to Saiki. Yes. I’m talking to Saiki.
Saiki hums in response. “I know.”
You continue talking, “I didn’t immediately realize you were both the Saiki that Toritsuka talks about, and the cute guy with pink hair that tags along with Nendou sometimes. I guess you’re different around him.”
“Well, I have to keep him in line.” Saiki jokes. He turns to you, “He hasn’t made any weird comments towards you, no?”
You shake your head. “He’s actually kind of nice. Just have to treat him like you would anyone else.”
“Oh.” Saiki pauses. “We have to get back to the game.”
You nod, but you don’t immediately follow Abe/Saiki’s footsteps.
“What is it?”
“You’re bleeding.”
There’s a streak of blood down Abe/Saiki’s face. “It’s okay,” Saiki replies. “It doesn’t hurt.”
You sigh as you take out a handkerchief from your pocket. “Of course, but,” you stretch your arm a little to reach the blood on Abe/Saiki’s face, “but it’s going to freak someone out on the team.” He lowers himself a little to make it easier on you. “The manager, actually,” you specify. “Blood scares her.”
Saiki doesn’t say anything else.
“Okay. We’re done. You’re good to play. You know how to play baseball, right? The same way Abe does?”
Saiki nods before you two walk back to the field. Saiki walks towards the team’s manager, and you choose a seat in the stands. This time, you pick a seat that gives you an even better view of the game.
You watch Saiki as he continues the game as Abe. He doesn’t do a flashy pose before pitching, which you brush off. It could be easily ruled off as training, or whatever. Abe’s the one who would have to explain himself when Saiki’s spirit is out of his body.
Time passes by, and PK Academy’s baseball team wins the game.
Excited, you head to Satou to congratulate him.
“Oh, I didn’t do much... it was all Abe, actually. It’s really glad to have him back!”
You just nod. Mhm. Totally Abe in there. Not Saiki.
“The team and I are going out to celebrate later.” Says Satou. He asks if you want to tag along, and you decline. You do get along well with the team, but that celebration belonged to them, and only them.
You make your way towards Saiki, whose spirit was now back in his own body. You beam at him, “Congrats on the win, Abe.” You laugh lightly at your own joke, but quiet down at the lack of a reaction from Saiki.
Saiki looks at you blankly. Seeing that facial expression on his face felt much more correct than it did on Abe’s face. Hm.
“Satou and the team are going out,” you pause. You suddenly glance side-to-side, avoiding any eye contact with Saiki.
“Would you... maybe want to go out with me as well...? Not, like, on a date. I don’t really dig that... and especially not with people I’ve only talked to, like, two times–”
Saiki answers, to your relief. He stops you from rambling any further. “I suppose we could do that. It’s the least I can do since you had to see me use my powers.”
“Really? I’m glad you aren’t offended, or weirded out. There’s a café that just opened up! My treat.”
Saiki nods. “I might enjoy that. Thank you.”
You smile at him. “I’ll make sure you do have fun, don’t worry. The desserts there are really good! The cheesecake? To die for!”
“I’ll have to tell Nendou and the others they can go without me.”

title: warm admiration
summary: You just wanted to try and ride a Blastcyle, yet here you are praising your boyfriend.

Tumblr media
"Are you sure you wana ride that thing? Wouldn't you prefer to test it out virtually first?" Idia asks, his gaze lingering on you as you sit on the Blastcycle he made...for fun.
He didn't see the point in riding these things. Sure, tinkering with them and making them from scratch was thrilling, but taking a ride on it? Yeah, no. It has to be just as bad, if not worse, than flying. Okay, maybe he can see the appeal just a bit. Anime characters look so cool when they drift dramatically onto the scene just in time or when the main character went on a drive with the sun setting in the background.
It's so cringey that he imagines himself doing that for you. Ugh. At this rate, he's going to end up like a real normie. Gross.
"That's different," you argue. You let your fingers glide across the machine while balancing on it. "I can't feel the wind in my hair or the motor- it does use one, right?"
"If you want a simulation of the real thing, I can make it in a snap." He grins, full of pride. And you believe him. "Yeah, I guess in your case. Magic is supposed to power it, but you can be basic and go without it." A pause as he pulls his hands together. "I-If you need me to power it with my magic I can."
"Really?!" Your eyes widen and you smile. "Than-"
"Prefect!"
Idia jumps as he hears another voice, one that isn't Ortho or Grim's. He's quick to hide behind you to avoid any sort of interaction. So much for having some alone time out in the fields. Normal people wouldn't be out here while the sun is setting. While Idia would have preferred coming out in the dead of night, even he knows the roaring sound of this machine could wake the heaviest of sleepers.
"Hey, Deuce!" You wave to your friend as he approaches.
The first year comes to a halt in front of you. If it weren't for Idia's flickering flames, he may not have noticed him.
"Oh, uh, hello, Idia! Sorry, I didn't see you there."
"I wish you hadn't..." You hear him mumble. You reach out behind and put a soothing hand on his shoulder, rubbing him gently.
He's grateful for the comfort and glad that one of your more...calmer friends approached. Well, somewhat calm. As long as he didn't activate his delinquent mode then Deuce wasn't too bad on his own. As long as that other extrovert isn't tagging along with him, he may just survive this encounter.
"What brings you out here? I thought you had to study per Riddle's rules?"
"I do..." He sighs. "But I started to get a headache and decided to take a walk. Clear my head a bit, ya know? But hey, I didn't know you had a Blastcycle." Deuce eyes the machine more than he does you. A part of him feels like he has to apologize for giving it more attention than his friend, but could you blame him?
"Is it a new model?" His eyes are filled with childlike wonder and awe. You can tell that he just wants to reach out and touch it, grasp the handles and take it for a spin. It's taking all his might to simply keep his hands at bay instead of touching this priceless piece of machinery.
"No? Kind of? It's homemade." You point to Idia, who flinches as the conversation switches to him. "He made it."
"Idia made this?!" Deuce gasps. "Ignihyde is known for its technical powers, huh? It looks even better than the latest model..."
"Right?!" You chirp, leaning forward and nearly sliding off the vehicle. As you steady yourself, you continue, "I don't know too much about Blastcycles, but I saw Idia put the whole thing together on his own! Not even Ortho helped him out. It's like he knew the machine like the back of his hand! He even said he added some new thrusters! This thing even has some magic energy saver, which is cool to! You know, I bet if Idia made me one that I could use I'd beat all the magic riders." You say with a bright and confident grin. "You included, Deuce."
"Is that a challenge?" He says, getting excited by the prospect of a friendly fight.
"Hmph. They'd definitely beat you," Idia mumbles, not expecting Deuce to hear him. He retreats into his hoodie when their eyes meet and turn so his back faces him.
"Whatever Idia makes, I know it will be better than anything else." This time your voice loses that bit of fight, going softer. "He's just cool, ya know? Smart and pretty. I'd trust in whatever he makes me."
A part of Deuce melts at how sweet you can be towards your boyfriend. Of course, he still thinks he could win in a match against you, but he also knows that he shouldn't doubt his senior's skills. Even if said senior is hiding in his hoodie and trying to hide that fleeting pink hair of his within it.
"Do ya think I could test it out sometime?" Deuce asks to take his attention off Idia.
Now, you turn to look at him. You're not too surprised to find him hiding from the conversation, though you had expected him to throw in an answer.
"I'll ask him later." You say to your friend. "I can get him to say yes, don't worry," you add with a grin.
Deuce's eyes light up once more. He then clears his throat and stands tall to act as if he was never offered a golden opportunity.
"Thanks, Prefect!" Now he's excited. Then it dawns on him that he's out here for a reason. And now he's probably third-wheeling a date. Should he apologize now or just go? He isn't quite sure, but he decides on the latter. "And, uh, thanks for talking. I'm going to head back to my dorm now," a sigh. "Or it'll be off with my head..."
As you wave to your friend, you pray that he'll survive his study session. It's not his strongest point, but you do want him to do his best. Once left alone, you turn your attention back to Idia. While he may not have been active in the conversation, you always checked up on him after a hard encounter.
"You okay?" You ask as you slide off the Blastcycle and stand beside him. He seems okay compared to earlier as he's not too hunched over, but he still grips his hoodie and keeps it pulled down. And that's worrying.
Until you see his pink flames. A tendril of once-blue hair seeps from his hoodie. He couldn't conceal all of his lengthy hair no matter how hard he tried.
"Wh-Why do you talk like that...?" He asks, lifting his head so your eyes can meet. You find that his cheeks are colored the same as his hair.
"What do you mean?"
"So...lovey-dovey. It's cheesier than those Markhall movies."
"Do you not want me to do that?" You frown.
You adored talking about Idia, especially with Ortho. The younger Shroud was happy to have someone who could appreciate his amazing older brother. But sometimes, you slipped. Like today with Deuce. At least your friend didn't seem to mind the way you spoke about him, although to be fair others would be. You're just thankful it was Deuce who dropped by and not Ace. You didn't want to hear him fake gag over your love.
"I could dial it down a bit if you want."
"N-No! I just..." He releases his hold on his hoodie, fumbling with his hands as he tries to figure out what to say. "No one really hypes me up aside from Ortho...A-And hearing it come from you is like a dream...! They're like super special voice lines I should have recorded..." He's desperately trying to hide that toothy smile of his. You know he dislikes it, meanwhile, you found it charming.
"It's all true, you know," you nudge him with your shoulder. "You're the coolest person I've met. The best one too. Should I list all your wonderful attributes?"
"D-Do you seriously want me to KO here and now?!"
Another laugh escapes you. "I'd rather you stay conscious. So, I'll keep it for another time." You lean towards him to give him a quick peck on the cheek. If you couldn't kill him with your kindness, you would with your love.
Idia burns even more with that display of affection. At least no one, aka Deuce, is around to see it. He loves what you do to him, but at the same time, he feels as if his heart can't keep up.

the way I love the ocean
Tumblr media
Relationship: Robin Buckley x Female!Reader
Summary: It was the summer of ‘87. Nothing in your life had prepared you for Robin, but somehow everything had begun falling into place. It all started with a movie and a pair of ocean-blue eyes, and suddenly you were dancing to a Jukebox in a long-closed diner, or racing down the length of a pier, swimming in the moon-dipped lake and walking her home down yellow-lit streets, talking about the way The Smiths sound like indigo and the best time of the summer is when the fireflies start to come out.
It was the summer of ‘87, and you were falling in love.

Chapter 2: Crickets
The evening air was cool -- thank god; the last thing you needed was to show up at Family Video a sweaty mess. You took your time, and the physical activity helped calm your anxiety as you watched the townhouses pass by in a line. The sky was lit in an orange glow, colored like someone had spilled paint across the horizon. Light from the setting sun bled through the patches of clouds, and the air smelled alive. Crickets set the backdrop, whirring loudly. You smiled.
By the time you reached Family Video, you had a good feeling about tonight. You were still nervous as all hell, but it was a good kind of nervous. An excitement.
The parking lot was empty save for one car, presumably Steve’s. You pedaled up to the side of the store, leaning your bike against the stone wall and hoping that no one would steal it while you were gone. Instinctively, you straightened your clothes, hands running over your body as you tried to make yourself look as presentable as possible. You wiped a bit of dampness from your forehead and then took a deep breath, holding it for three seconds before letting it out into the darkening evening air.
You could do this. It was just hanging out with some friends. People did that all the time. It didn’t matter that you hardly knew anyone. People did that all the time, too; it was practically what school was. And anyway, relationships had to start somewhere, right? When you caught sight of Robin through the window, leaning over the front counter, her hair falling in a feathery sheet across her face, you knew that a little bit of anxiety would absolutely be worth it if it meant a chance with her.
Suddenly you were aware of how tight your chest felt. Of the way you were standing, the sound of your breathing. Of how incompetent you were with small talk. God, what if there was small talk? Then Robin looked up and you were met with those damn blue eyes, clear as the ocean under a bright sun, and you thought your heart might actually burst apart into a hundred butterflies and flutter right out of your mouth. She smiled when she saw you, excitement brightening her cheeks as she gave an eager wave. You suspected then and there that your face would be hurting by the end of the night from all this smiling.
You gingerly opened the door.
“Hi! Hey, you’re right on time! Uh, come on in. Not everyone gets to see FV after hours, haha. At least we’re not haunted, or anything -- just, you know, dusty shelves and weird smells. The floor’s also kind of sticky because of the, like, super cheap soap that we use to mop. Steve and I keep trying to convince Keith to change it but he’s set in his ways. He’s our manager, by the way, but he….” she trailed off, growing a little small despite her height. “Sorry, I’m rambling, aren’t I?”
“It’s okay,” you quickly offered. “Keith sounds like kind of a pain. Soap isn’t really supposed to make things sticky, is it?” you grimaced, chuckling when your shoe made a velcro sound as you pulled it off the floor.
Robin’s brow furrowed in disgust and perhaps a little embarrassment.
“Ew, yeah. That’s, like, really gnarly.”
“Hey!” A voice interrupted as who you assumed was Steve sauntered out of the back room, pulling his Family Video vest off to reveal a polo shirt underneath. “Long time no see. So, are you gonna be like a frequent customer, or what?”
He flashed you a grin, then stuck his hand out. You took it, letting him shake your hand with unexpected softness, considering his flamboyant, slightly loud entrance.
“Steve Harrington, at your service. I’m this dipshit's chauffeur.”
“Ignore him,” Robin waved, nearly smacking Steve in the face as she stepped in front of him. You were pretty sure you were still smiling like an idiot. You were also pretty sure you weren’t going to be stopping anytime soon.
“Anyway,” Steve continued, leaning around Robin to peek at you. “We’re just waiting for another friend to show up and then we’ll get this show on the road.”
“Sounds good,” you managed, smiling between the two of them. Your eyes flickered back to Robin when you noticed the girl staring at you. Her cheeks darkened to a deeper shade of pink.
“Uh, I’m just gonna go back and… get ready,” she grabbed at her Family Video vest. “I’ll… be right back.” Holding up her pointer fingers, she waved them once as she backed towards the employee room, then spun on her heels and disappeared.
That left you and… Steve. He was leaning against the counter with his arms crossed. You picked at your sleeve and awkwardly crossed your ankles, suddenly not sure how to stand in a way that would be considered normal.
You’d heard about Steve Harrington back in high school. Everyone had, and though you’d never met him, being a year behind, you knew vaguely of him thanks to all the rumors. Well… you knew vaguely of someone; the man standing in front of you didn’t seem much like the King Steve everyone talked about, and, though you’d only just actually met him, you got the idea that a lot had changed since high school.
“She can come off as kind of weird sometimes, Robin,” he suddenly spoke up, jerking his head towards the back room. “But she’s great once you get to know her.”
You looked over at him, at the way his face was distantly fond, and you smiled.
“She seems great,” you breathlessly agreed, trying not to be too fucking obvious. “And I don’t think she’s that weird. I mean… she’s weird, but, like, good weird. Does that make sense?”
Your nervous laughter quickly became unnecessary when you saw how Steve was looking at you; like he was suddenly eager about something. Like he was pleasantly surprised.
“Yeah. No, it makes a lot of sense,” he nodded.
You had just been floundering for the next available small talk topic, cursing your inability to behave like a functioning member of society, when Robin reappeared, her flannel revealed over a loose t-shirt now that the vest was gone, fluffing her hair with one hand and tucking the front of her shirt in with the other.
She looked a little frazzled, and Steve turned back around to raise his eyebrows knowingly before grimacing at her.
“You ready or what?”
“Hey, don’t give me that look. Eddie’s not even here yet, so it’s not my fault we’re running late--”
As if on cue, the roar of an engine echoed through the parking lot. A pair of headlights blinded the three of you before a sketchy-looking van came to a screeching halt next to Steve’s car. You weren’t sure if you hoped that was Eddie or wasn’t.
“Finally,” Robin rolled her eyes. “I swear, that’s the last time we invite him to anything without at least a week's notice.”
“He said he was having a thing with the kids -- that dragon game or, whatever,” Steve lamely argued, shrugging. “Probably just ran late.”
“Well, in that case, we’re lucky he’s not, like, three days late.”
Steve’s lips curled into a reluctant smirk -- which morphed into an outright smile as a curly-haired, leather-clad man barreled his way through the door.
“Sorry I’m late. Dustin’s a butthead.”
“Tell us something we don’t know,” Steve shot back. You were confused.
Thankfully -- or, maybe not thankfully, considering your brain almost left the building -- Robin lightly grabbed your arm and smiled encouragingly at you.
“This is Eddie. Eddie, this is Y/N…”
You managed to pull yourself out of the depths of Robin’s eyes and look over at the man, who flashed you a smile and a dramatic bow.
“Pleasure to meet you.”
“Yeah, you too,” you replied, smile widening at the way Steve rolled his eyes at Eddie’s theatrics. Though, you thought maybe you saw a hint of a blush. What were the chances that you’d been so worried about Robin when actually all three of them were…
You mentally scoffed, immediately telling yourself that there was no way in hell you’d ever be that lucky. It just wasn’t possible.
“Alright,” Steve clapped. “You bozos ready? Oh, and… you,” he shyly added, seeming to remember that it wasn’t just him and his friends anymore.
“Steve!” Robin smacked his arm. “Have I told you to ignore him? Seriously, ignore him.”
“It’s okay,” you laughed. “I assumed I was included in the bozos, anyway.”
“I like her,” Eddie grinned at Robin, leaning his shoulder into yours.
You tried not to completely lose your cool. Had making friends always been this easy? How was it that you’d struggled all these years when over the span of a week and a few minutes you’d somehow met three new people that accepted you into their little group without a second thought? And somehow it had just…. worked.
You were still trying to figure it out as the four of you piled into Steve’s BMW. He and Eddie took the front and you and Robin climbed into the back. You breathed a shaky sigh of relief, glad that you’d get to spend the whole ride next to her. The drive-in was on the edge of town, so it would be a bit of a scenic route. Any worries you’d initially had that the ride would be awkward were immediately forgotten.
Steve was insistent that they were going to miss half the movie -- the name of which you still didn’t even know -- and Robin had to keep telling him that it started at eight-fifteen so they had plenty of time. Eddie turned around in the passenger seat to tell you that they were “always like this,” and Robin groaned while Steve began protesting loudly and very defensively.
All you could do was laugh so hard you were now one hundred percent certain you’d have the worst headache of your life by the end of the night. It didn’t matter -- you were having too much fun to even care. If Robin wasn’t bickering with Steve, she was smiling at you; little sideways smiles that made you feel like you were a part of the conversation even though you weren’t. Smiles that said “I’m glad you’re here” even though the two of you didn’t get much of a chance to talk directly to one another.
Up front, Eddie made a comment about how Steve’s music was “killing him slowly,” and suddenly pulled a tape out of his pocket.
“Woah, what the-- where the hell did that come from?”
“Just be glad I have it, Harrington. Might be able to save this fuckin’ trip after all.”
“Alright, just-- not too loud, okay? We don’t want to scare the new girl off.”
“I don’t mind,” you butted it, smiling as Eddie whipped around to give you a gesture of thanks and then flip the bird at Steve.
“Not everyone’s as high maintenance as you, Stevie,” he insisted, and going by the look on Steve’s face, Eddie was lucky the man was currently preoccupied with driving.
“Hey,” Robin’s voice, low and melodic, pulled you back into the backseat. “How, uh… how are you doing? I hope this isn’t, like, totally weird or overwhelming or anything.”
“No,” you jumped to offer -- and actually scooted across the seat a little, that way your voices could stay low as Eddie’s music began to blare. “I’m good. This is fun. I don’t really have a whole lot of friends -- and definitely not friends like this, so… yeah.”
“Cool,” Robin breathed. “I mean! Not cool that you don’t have any friends, but, like, cool that we’re not super scary or off-putting.”
“I mean,” you scrunched your nose; Robin’s eyes seemed clearer in the dim light of the car. You wondered how that was possible. “Steve’s music taste is kind of off-putting.”
“Hey, I heard that,” his eyes turned from you to Robin in the rearview. “What, did you recruit her to bully me like the rest of you?”
“Oh, shut up Steve,” Eddie teased.
“Yeah, what happened to not scaring off the new girl? And you say we’re bullies -- you’re being a total bully.”
“After I drive you everywhere, too. Unbelievable.”
“Holy shit!” Robin suddenly rasped, Steve completely forgotten. “That reminds me. The tape! Did you listen to Tango in the Night?”
“Oh my god!” you turned to face her. The two of you had somehow gotten closer. “Yes! I’ve been listening to it, like, all week. It’s so good. Thanks for recommending it,” you shyly added.
“Are you kidding? Of course! I swear, it’s such a great album. God, the whole,” she started bobbing her head, hands gesturing as she hummed out a chorus before softly singing “Mmmn ‘someone with that kind of intensity,’” she laughed at your reaction -- wide-eyed and giddy -- then grew playfully serious again. “‘You touched my hand, I played it cool -- and you reached out your hand to me…’” She held out her hand in a dramatic gesture, and you grabbed it out of excitement, giving it a little shake.
“Oh my god,” you half-squealed. “It’s so, like… romantic.”
“Right? It totally is!” Robin replied, reaching forward to grab your knee now, seemingly just as excited as you were. “And the whole, ‘if I live to see the Seven Wonders--’ and her saying that she’ll never see something so beautiful ever again.”
“Ugh,” you groaned, leaning back with an awed smile. “Literally amazing.”
“Literally amazing,” Robin repeated. “Okay, I’ve got to know what you think of ‘When I see you again…’”
By the time you reached the drive-in, you’d completely forgotten that it was where you’d been going all along. You would have been content to let Steve drive you right out of Hawkins as long as you got to keep talking to Robin. Your anxieties were gone, left somewhere in the taillights, probably curled up between the handlebars of your bike and awaiting your return. But for now, you’d forget that they even existed. How could you not, when Robin was smiling at everything you said, laughing in that way that made her nose wrinkle and lines appear across her skin; saying something funny and totally endearing before immediately apologizing, somehow thinking that you’d find it annoying. Her apologies came like second nature to her, but every time you waved them off they grew a little less frequent until, by the time the BMW pulled through the gates of the drive-in theater, she wasn’t saying it anymore.
You honestly thought that she just forgot; her brain moving too quickly now, too excitedly, to even think about apologizing. And even though you sometimes had a hard time keeping up with her, she always had those quiet moments of reflection, of sudden shyness, where she would softly ask you what you thought about whatever she’d said, or something about yourself; your favorite color, what other music you liked to listen to, which season you thought was better because she was sure that people who liked summer were crazy but people who liked winter were even crazier.
Spring, she said. She liked spring. You wanted to tell her how that made sense because her eyes were the color of a breeze and her hair was the color of a fawn, and her freckles reminded you of pebbles in a stream, and streams always looked the most magical in spring.
You wanted to tell her, but you didn’t know how, so instead all you replied with was, “I like the time of year when the fireflies start coming out.” And she’d looked at you like you just got it. Like you understood exactly what she’d been asking beneath the words she'd actually said.
Steve bought everybody popcorn and sodas from the concession stand. He didn’t even ask, didn’t mention it, just parked the car and disappeared dragging Eddie behind him, a quick glance at Robin in the rearview that seemed to conceal a tiny conversation within it. When the car doors slammed shut and the two of you were alone, you both sat back against your seats, silence, for the first time, finally settling between you. It was loud after following nearly thirty minutes of constant noise. You tried not to breathe too loud, at the same time thinking about how sweet Robin’s own breathing was. But not sweet in the way a grandma calls someone sweet -- more… sweet like strawberries or root beer floats, or the sound that trees make when everything is really still and quiet and there’s just enough of a breeze to make you feel like the Earth itself is alive. That kind of sweet. The kind that’s found in the dirt, underneath a pile of leaves and roly-polys. The kind of sweet that feeds the worms.
“Hey, uhm… thank you for coming,” Robin softly started, and if her breathing was sweet, her voice was enough to feed the whole Earth until it bloomed. “I honestly kind of feel like we’ve kidnapped you, this is so crazy.”
“Yeah, of course… I’m really glad that you invited me…” you shifted. It was now or never, and then the night would be over and you’d regret it. “I, uh… I was actually really hoping you’d be the one to call me, a-about the tape. I thought maybe you’d just have Steve do it…”
“Oh,” Robin breathed, then shook her head. “Uh, trust me, he usually would. Getting numbers is usually his thing, haha. He’s always trying to pick up girls. Honestly, it’s kind of insufferable, working with him when he’s all like ‘hello ladies,’” she pulled a face that was fantastically Steve-esque and pointed finger guns.
You laughed, and she watched your reaction through those intense springtime eyes.
“But,” you smiled. “You called this time?”
You weren’t sure what exactly you were asking, considering you knew she’d called. Maybe you were asking why. Maybe you were trying to figure out what Steve picking up girls had to do with her being the one to call you. Maybe you wanted to know if that meant what you hoped it meant.
“Yeah,” she whispered, eyes searching your face. “Yeah, I-I did.”
“Alright ladies,” Steve ducked back into the car. “We’ve got two Cokes and two Pepsis. I guess we can fight to the death over them, or something…”
“Don’t call us ladies,” Robin grimaced. “And I call a Coke. Oh,” she turned to you. “Unless, what do you want? If you want Coke, you can have mine. I won’t fight you to the death, or anything,” she laughed nervously, smiling brighter when you laughed, too.
“I’m fine with either,” you started, not wanting to be a bother, but Steve shook his head.
“Nope, we don’t do that bullshit here unless you’re under the age of sixteen--”
“Steve has, like, six adopted children,” Robin interjected, her eyes widening adorably as she took a sip of her drink. “Sometimes Eddie and I co-parent.”
“Anyway,” Steve insisted. “You pick. What’ll it be?”
“Uh… I’ll take the other Coke if you don’t mind.”
“Not at all. Jesus, it’s so nice to be around someone who actually has manners,” the comment was directed toward the other two as he handed a cup and a bag of popcorn back to you with a smile.
“Thanks,” you instinctively said, then smirked. “You know, it, uh, might have something to do with the whole… six adopted children thing.”
“See, you’d think that -- and it’s true -- but these idiots still have the shittiest manners of anyone I know, and this particular idiot,” he pointed to Eddie, “Got held back like four times. He’s practically thirty at this point and he still can’t say ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ to save his goddamn life.”
“Jesus,” Robin groaned around a mouthful of popcorn. “Can you stop complaining for like two whole seconds? You’re ruining the mood.”
“Oh yeah? And what mood is that?”
Robin ignored him and turned to you.
“We need, like, a curtain or something.”
“How would we watch the movie, then?” you giggled.
“Honestly, at this point, I don’t even care. Anything to get away from this dingus,” she threw popcorn at the back of his head.
“Hey! Not in the car, man -- what is wrong with you?”
“So, Y/N, having any regrets yet?” Eddie asked with dry teasing as the previews began to play. Steve jumped to adjust the radio station for the sound.
“Nope,” you easily replied, glancing at Robin out of the corner of your eye. “No regrets here.”
Her eyebrows raised slightly, eyes locked with yours until music began to blare through the radio.
“Got it,” Steve announced, and all of you settled in for the movie.
You still didn’t even know what you were seeing. It didn’t matter, anyway. You weren’t paying attention to what was on the big screen in flashing lights and pixelated graphics -- something about an alien, maybe? You couldn’t focus on much of anything at all the second that Robin scooted close enough for you to feel the heat coming off of her leg.
Drive-in movies aren’t really meant to be viewed from the back seat of a BMW. Usually, if you’re in the backseat of a BMW during a movie you’re doing something else…
Your face heated at the thought, made worse by the close proximity of the most attractive girl you’d ever seen. In order to see around Steve and Eddie, you and Robin had to slide into the middle seat. Which wouldn’t have hindered your ability to watch the movie if it hadn’t been for Robin’s leg brushing against yours, or the fact that you could practically feel her breathing. The contact, at first, had been an accident -- one that Robin had softly apologized for, to which you could only reply with a hasty shake of your head and thoughts about all the things you wish you could tell her about all the things she was doing to you. But gradually, as flashy fight scenes and dramatic music carried on, Robin began to inch her leg towards yours.
You watched it from the corner of your eye -- watched as she shifted closer, retreated, then shifted closer again. You watched her fiddle with one of the rings on her hand, then mess with the button on the sleeve of her flannel, buttoning and unbuttoning it until you were sure the string had to snap any moment now. When her leg finally found its way towards yours again, you tried to ignore the way your chest was threatening to burst open and instead did something that probably would have made that feeling worse if you hadn't already gone numb.
You opened your legs, bumping your knee against hers. It was quick contact -- gone almost as quickly as it had been -- but it was enough to make the whole left side of your body vibrate with warmth. You could almost still feel the lingering warmth of her knee against your own, even through the layers of fabric that had separated skin.
God, you wondered what her skin felt like. You weren’t sure you’d actually survive finding out.
You weren’t sure you’d survive when Robin's knee bumped against yours, knocking softly against your thigh a few times before settling there, finally staying. From that single point of contact, your entire essence grew warm with the feeling of her. Right then and there, you knew you wanted more. You wanted to wrap yourself into her flannel. You wanted to get lost in the way she smelled, take that smell with you even after she left. You wanted to lay your cheek against her neck and listen to the sound of her heart in her throat.
Instead, you managed to adjust in your seat. Your hip barely brushed hers, but this time she looked over at you, hair fanning across her cheek before settling back against her ear. Her eyes were wide, and somehow they were even brighter in the darkness; even bluer. They reminded you of the ocean at night, pale but not dark enough to be called grey; nothing short of a melancholy, silvery blue. A tired blue.
Your face must have been a reflection of her own because she spent a few seconds searching across it -- flickering between your eyes, trailing down the bridge of your nose… your lips.
You thought you might actually die when she looked at your lips, gaze quickly flickering back up to meet your eye, perhaps to see what she would find there. You weren’t sure if you were hoping she’d find the truth or something else. But, whatever she found, she smiled gently at it -- that soft smile, the one that reminded you of a warm room, lit dimly; just enough to be safe, but not too much to be glaring.
You wanted to taste it. You wanted to see how it felt against your own smile.
Your hips stayed touching, and halfway through the movie, Robin shifted again, propping her arm just behind you. Her shoulders were slanting towards yours, and you’d never felt… safer. More secure. Being close to her was like falling asleep slowly when you were tired; it felt good. Natural, like a stretch in the morning. You couldn’t believe that you’d never felt this for another person before. You couldn’t believe that you were even feeling this right now with a girl you’d known for barely a week -- someone you’d only actually talked to twice, including the drive over.
But nothing about Robin felt strange or unfamiliar. It didn’t feel like you’d known her your whole life, or anything like that; you just had the feeling that you didn’t need to know her to be sure that you already liked her. You also had the feeling that you wanted to know her anyway, because how much more was there to like?
By the time the credits started to roll, the crook of Robin’s shoulder was pressed firmly against yours. Your faces were barely a foot apart, and though your back hurt from the odd angle you’d just spent the last hour and a half in, you felt like you were floating. It wasn’t until Eddie and Steve began to talk, arguing -- obviously -- about the movie and how it had ended, that the two of you leaned away from each other. In the quiet atmosphere of the movie, with the distracting hum from the radio and the flashing lights draped down onto the car, it had almost felt like you’d been in another world. But now that cars were starting back up, engines revving as people pulled out of the drive-in and through the gate, now that the movie was over and reality had returned, the real world came rushing back; the world in Hawkins, Indiana, where your dad was worried about you seeing boys and Robin touching you like that would probably wind up being a fluke. She’d just been trying to see the movie, anyway.
But, when you chanced a look over at her, a comment about the movie that you hadn’t been paying attention to on your lips, Robin’s expression shut you right up. She was already watching you, and when she caught you returning her gaze, she arched her eyebrows in an almost knowing look. A wrinkle appeared between her brows, and her mouth was half-open like she wanted to say something, but then Steve was turning around in his seat.
“So, what did you ladies think?”
You opened your own mouth, but nothing came out. Robin’s eyebrows raised an inch further, and then she turned her head towards Steve, dragging her eyes away from you at the last minute.
“I told you, don’t call us ‘ladies.’ And it was… good.”
 Steve turned sideways to glance at her.
“You didn’t like it,” he said after a moment.
“No! That’s not what I said, I said it was good.”
“Yeah, which totally means you didn’t like it. What about you? What did you think?”
“Uhm,” you started. “Yeah, it… it was good. I liked it.” Steve looked a confusing mix between slightly exasperated and… smug. Like he’d been right about something.
“The ending was a little weird,” you continued, and suddenly Eddie was throwing his hands up.
“Thank you,” he insisted.
“I’m telling you. I’m surrounded by bozos. And this time I mean you, too,” he pointed at you in the rearview, and you laughed at his almost motherly tone. He smirked, but he wasn’t done yet. “Seriously, you’re officially a part of this shit, now, so you’re fair game.”
“Can you stop harassing my plus one?” Robin insisted, leaning forward to say it as close to his ear as possible. He swatted her away like a mosquito. “I’d like for her to maybe want to keep coming around, and you bullying her isn’t helping, Steve.”
“Wha-- ‘bullying’ -- I’m not bullying anybody.”
“You are being kind of a douche, Stevie,” Eddie sang, eyes wide as he glanced around the car like he was a lawyer in a courtroom.
“I drive you assholes everywhere!”
“I feel like at this point I might as well get ‘ignore him’ tattooed to my forehead with a big red arrow pointing to Steve,” Robin muttered to you, and your barely stifled giggles nearly exploded when Steve threw a wadded-up popcorn bag directly at her head.
Robin gasped, feigning annoyance as she launched it back at him a moment before turning to duck towards you and breaking into laughter. Steve turned to Eddie.
“They’ve only had one date and already they’re teaming up on me.”
Just like that, neither of you were laughing anymore. Steve, on the other hand, realized what he’d just said and was awkwardly trying to laugh it off.
“I mean, haha, I was just kidding. I didn’t mean, like…” he took one hand off the wheel to rub the back of his head.
“Steve,” Robin hissed, shoving his shoulder before turning around to look apologetically at you, her usually rosy skin red with embarrassment. “I swear, I'm gonna get it tattooed.”
You laughed even though you were panicking because holy shit what if? Because… Robin seemed to be panicking too, so maybe that meant she was wondering the same thing you were. So… you had to say something.
“I don’t mind. Besides, as far as dates go, this is probably the nicest one I’ve been on since I was in, like, seventh grade.”
You weren’t going to tell them that the ‘date’ you were talking about was when you and Elsie Brown had gone to the candy store in town and then held hands on the soccer field while you talked about what you wanted to be when you grew up. Elise wanted to be a singer. You wanted to go to outer space. Not be an astronaut, just… get away from everything. Space had seemed like a pretty good distance.
“Oh,” Robin’s voice, raspy and slightly panicked, replied. “Yeah, I mean… same. Dates, haha, they can be, like, super weird, am I right?”
“I guess,” you pulled a face between a smile and a grimace. “Honestly, I haven’t been on many dates since I was in middle school and everyone was, like, married to each other.”
“Oh my god,” she snorted. “They totally were. What the hell was wrong with us all when we were kids?”
“I have no idea,” you laughed. “I guess it seemed reasonable at the time? Like, fifth-grade math was fucking hard, so might as well get married to fucking Brett Weaver underneath the bleachers because your parents would probably approve of him, if he’d, like, stop picking his nose.”
Robin burst out laughing, a fluttery, velvety sound, and you immediately loved it with everything inside you. You didn’t want to ever stop hearing it.
“Ew, Brett Weaver. I remember him,” her nose wrinkled. “He used to do it just, like, out in the open even though we all told him to knock it off. He never even turned red or anything.”
"Which is crazy,” you added. “Because I can't even ask for directions without feeling like I'll actually melt into the ground."
"Holy shit," Robin waved her hands in eagerness, her body needing to do something in the moment it took to catch up with her brain. "Me too! It's honestly an issue."
"It is," Steve confirmed. "If a customer's mean to her I have to peel her off FV's floor and wrap her in a blanket like the victim of a crime."
"The sticky floor," you added, and Robin laughed harder, high and squeaky. God, this girl.
“The sticky floor,” she excitedly insisted, grabbing your knees. “Oh my god, you’re so cool…” It took her a moment to realize she’d said it, and then she was trying to cover up the way her voice had gone all genuine with a timid joke. “I mean, to be fair, I only ever hang out with fourteen-year-olds and this dingus,” she nodded to Steve. “So I probably don’t have the best cool gauge on the planet.”
“Well in this case I don't think you’re wrong.” Eddie piped up, sounding like he knew something the two of you didn’t.
“Oh jeez, I don’t know,” you felt your face getting hot as you fiddled with your hands. “Thanks, I guess…”
“Alright dipshits, everybody get buckled,” Steve insisted as he shifted the car into gear. It had taken a little while for the parking area to clear out, and he was finally able to pull into the exit lane.
“That’s a new one. Am I included in the ‘dipshit’ category or just the ‘bozo’ one?”
“Well, now we’re gonna have to make a third ‘wiseass’ category. That’s a first, considering the rest of you are idiots.”
Eddie and Robin both began protesting at the same time -- Eddie because Steve had just called him an idiot and Robin because Steve was still being “a fucking bully, I know for a fact your mom raised you better, dingus.”
Steve insisted that you had started it, and then he’d sent you a smile and a wink in the rearview as Robin was still determined to defend your honor against her dumb best friend. You told her that it was fine; you had a reputation for being a little too sarcastic -- something your parents reminded you of constantly. The girl replied that her parents told her that she talked too much when it wasn’t appropriate.
Eddie insisted that both your parents were douchebags and the two of you were just fine the way you were.
“What do parents know, anyway?” he asked as Steve pulled out onto the road, adjusting the radio so it was only a soft hum in the background, the song lyrics indistinguishable under the sound of the engine and your conversation.
It was late and the road was dark save for the slice of headlights that cut through the curtain of black pavement and the gaping darkness that made up the forest. Inside the car, a faint glow from the dashboard created a pocket, like a bubble in the ocean, where the four of you moved through the night at a leisurely speed. It felt like you were standing still in time. It felt like you were going everywhere and nowhere all at once -- like you were moving a hundred miles an hour but would always stay here, on this road, in this night, together.
You and Robin had returned to your seats, and the distance between your thigh and hers felt like it spanned the whole universe. You missed the warmth of her body, being able to sense it in the air, moving particles around like a warm breeze until every inch of you was touched by it. You hated how it felt like winter in the absence of her spring.
So you leaned in slightly, propping your arm up on the middle seat and tilting your head like you were looking out at the road. Headlights skipped over the pavement, the occasional loose rock, and you thought you could make out the pale-yellow center line that separated the sides of the road. It was eerie, but it felt familiar, too. It felt like a memory. After a moment, Robin’s hand was inching toward yours. It was nothing drastic, nothing strong enough to push you spinning into orbit or moving forward in space -- just enough to make it smell like spring again. And the only unfamiliar part was how your life as of only a few hours ago now felt cold and empty without that breeze. Without Robin and her warmth and her smile and her glorious flaw of talking too much.
You wondered how you were going to sleep tonight. You wondered if you’d ever get to see her again.
When Steve pulled into the Family Video parking lot, those questions rested heavily on the backs of your eyelids. You saw them every time you blinked. Steve put the car into park and everybody climbed out. Eddie opened your door for you, giving you a genuine, eager smile when you thanked him. He was so different from what you’d been expecting when his van had pulled into the lot. The same van that Eddie returned to after patting Steve on the back, shaking your hand, and giving Robin a hug with the declaration that he “had fun, even if the ending was stupid,” to which Steve rolled his eyes. He was smiling, though, and couldn’t help but give a determined “drive safe, alright?” before Eddie pulled out onto the road, his music blaring loud enough that he’d definitely piss some people off. He didn’t seem to care.
When you turned back from the road, a faint smile still on your face, you found Robin watching you. When you saw her, your smile widened, though you tucked your chin to try and conceal it, hoping your expression didn’t give you away. But she tilted her head to follow you, pressing her lips together as the corner of her mouth twisted into a dimple that you wanted nothing more than to kiss.
“I guess I should get going,” you weakly offered. “This was really fun… thanks again for inviting me…”
“Of course,” he replied, voice hushed. “I’m really glad you came.”
It felt like you needed to whisper, with how quiet the night was; crickets chirped softly, and you didn’t want to speak over them on the chance that you’d miss something important within their humming choir.
Robin was a special kind of beautiful in the moonlight. Her hair looked even softer to the sound of crickets. Her skin, pale smoothness interrupted by dark freckles and blush, looked ethereal beneath such a quiet sky. The fact that you were in a video store parking lot was probably for your own benefit; you weren’t sure you’d be able to handle it if the two of you were somewhere even a bit more beautiful. You might have actually stopped breathing.
You almost did when Robin took a step towards you, one hand crossed over her body to cradle the opposite elbow.
“Uh, if… if my dingus friends haven’t scared you off yet… maybe we could do this again sometime?”
A smile bloomed across your face, and your brain was racing too fast to even register what was happening.
“I’d like that,” you replied, a single breath hidden beneath the symphony of crickets.
“Cool,” Robin replied, just as softly. “Awesome. Great. I mean… yeah, I-I’d like that, too -- if you’d like it. Uh…” She shook her head, never breaking eye contact with you. You felt like you were floating and sinking all at the same time, suspended in air.
“Awesome… great,” you repeated with a smirk.
“Hey,” Steve’s voice interrupted your staring, and the two of you managed to drag your eyes away from one another. “Uh, shit, did you bike here?”
“Yeah,” you hesitantly replied. “It’s fine though, I bike pretty much everywhere.”
“Yeah, but it’s, like, pretty late,” Steve said, propping a hand on his hip, and suddenly you remembered that he was a bit older than you -- though it seemed like more than just a couple of years when he got that worried mom look on his face. “Come on -- throw your shit in the back, I’ll drive you home. Don’t want you getting kidnapped or anything.”
“Oh, you really don’t have to,” you waved your hands, but Robin was nodding.
“No, Steve’s right. It’s super dark out, and we’re, like, surrounded by the woods, and you’re alone, so it would be, like, ridiculously easy for someone to just pull up beside you and yank you into a van.”
“See,” Steve raised his eyebrows and pointed at Robin. “Even she agrees.”
“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean, dingus?” Robin glared at him before turning a pleading expression back to you. “Please,” she sang, folding her hands together. “If you bike home I won’t be able to sleep because I’ll be worried that a pervert kidnapped you and is selling your organs.”
“And she’s not even kidding,” Steve added.
“I’m not.”
“Okay, okay, fine,” you caved, smirking. “But… I don’t know if my bike will fit in your trunk.”
“We’ll make it work,” Steve shrugged.
He insisted on carrying it over to his car for you and Robin rolled her eyes. You smiled, too distracted by the faces she was making at her friend’s chivalrous behavior -- comparable to someone who'd eaten bad food -- to notice that Steve had already managed to carefully shove your bike into the back of his car. He couldn’t close the trunk, but you told him your house wasn’t far and he didn’t seem worried about it.
“Alrighty ladies -- hop in.”
“Jesus Christ, Steve, will you stop that,” Robin insisted, waving her hands before dropping them suddenly and staring at the car. “Oh. Shit, uhm…” she turned to you. “Do you want to sit in the front or the back? O-Or we could both sit in the back? I don’t really know how--”
“I don’t mind sitting in the back,” you offered before she could get herself too worried about it. You gave her a reassuring smile, and Robin’s anxiety seemed to deflate. Her shoulders loosened and she smiled back at you.
“Okay cool. As long as you’re sure?”
“Yeah, totally,” you shrugged, already opening the door. “No big deal.”
“Okay,” Robin nodded, and you got the idea that she was reassuring herself now.
You barely kept yourself in the back anyway. Leaning between the two front seats, you propped your elbows on the armrest so you could direct Steve to your house. You probably didn’t need to actually lean on the storage compartment to do that, but the minute you had, Robin had turned to and asked if you’d ever been to the diner in town because she liked their strawberry milkshakes. Before you’d had the chance to answer, however, she’d backtracked because “Of course you’ve been to the diner in town” so instead she asked you what your favorite flavor of milkshake was.
You almost missed telling Steve where to turn onto your street. By then, you almost wished you had because as he pulled in front of your house, the porch light glowing glaringly onto the yard, you realized that the night was over and now you were home. Now you’d have to go inside and you wouldn’t see Robin until who even knew when. You felt a sinking disappointment fill your stomach as you got out of the car. But then Robin was climbing out after you and helping you pull your bike out of the trunk of Steve’s car. Her elbow brushed yours and instead of apologizing for it, she gave you a little smile and carefully maneuvered your bike onto the asphalt.
“Well,” you scratched at your arm. “This is me…”
“Yeah,” Robin softly replied, scuffing the toe of her converse along the pavement. You heard the hum of crickets, the same backdrop as Family Video; no matter where you went in Hawkins, there would always be the song of crickets.
“This was a lot of fun,” you whispered, glancing between the cherry red of her converse and the ocean blue of her eyes. Everything about her was color; she was like a rainbow, even in the darkness of night. The yellow from the porchlight your parents had left on lit up her hair like a candle, shadows slanting over her face, making her look even more stunning.
You wanted her to come inside with you. You didn’t want this to be where you parted ways.
“Uhm,” you continued, needing to say something. You were too scared to tell her what you actually wanted so instead you said, “It was a pretty good date… as far as dates go.”
You wanted to sound like you were joking. You guessed that you likely didn’t. Robin laughed anyway. The toe of her shoes jabbed into the pavement. You realized that she’d doodled on the white rubber, shapes that you couldn't make out in the shadows and dim light.
“Yeah,” she laughed huskily. “Yeah, it was. I guess according to middle school logic, that makes us married, right?”
You smiled, glancing down at your feet again.
“Yeah, I guess it does. So, uh… I guess that also means I’ll be seeing you around?”
“Um, yeah… sure,” Robin’s eyes widened like she couldn’t quite believe that you were real. You knew the feeling; you still hadn’t figured out if she was. “You, uh, know where to find me,” she lifted two fingers to her forehead in a salute. God, you wanted to kiss her.
“Alright, well…” you murmured. “Night.”
“Night,” she replied, a soft whisper as she reached up to brush some hair behind her ears.
She watched you wheel your bike up to the porch, and then she watched as you turned back around to give her a final wave before slipping inside. She also watched your door slam shut. It was only when the porch light turned off that she was able to actually move.
When she ducked back into the passenger seat, Steve was already staring at her with that annoying look on his face, mouth half open in a grin.
“Shut up, shut up, don’t even say anything, Steve, I swear.”
“Hey, I didn’t! I didn’t say anything,” he raised his hands in surrender before pulling the car back into the street. “Didn’t say anything…” he repeated, staring straight in front of him. Robin was rubbing her temples.
“Holy shit, Robs.”
“Stop.”
“She’s so in love with you.”
“Steve,” Robin wailed, dropping her face into her hands with a dramatic smack.
“What?! I’m being completely serious! Dude, she’s, like, head over heels. Robin,” he insisted, and the girl groaned. Finally, though, she looked up at him through her fingers and slightly smeared mascara.
Steve smiled kindly and lifted a hand. After a moment of hesitation, Robin rolled her eyes and placed her hand in his. He gave it a squeeze -- and then a little shake, and Robin was trying not to smirk.
“Be excited, Buckley,” he encouraged. “That was, like, really good.”
“Oh my god,” she groaned. “It was so good.”
“So good!” he agreed, nearly crashing the car because he was grinning so wide. Robin squeezed his hand back -- more out of stress than anything else -- and he took that as a good enough sign to let go of her and assume she was no longer at risk of flat-lining in his car.
“What am I going to do, Steve?” she whispered, her smile not completely erasing the genuine worry in her question.
“Easy,” he softly started. “You’re gonna get the fucking girl.”
Robin scrunched her eyes shut.
“And then you’re gonna get married -- for real, none of this middle school bullshit -- and I’m gonna plan your wedding because you’re way too unorganized for that--” Robin was laughing now. Steve smiled. “And we’re gonna have to bribe Max to wear a dress. I’ll probably have to buy her that skateboard she’s been wanting just for her to even think about it.”
“Oh my god,” Robin groaned again, but this time the pain of it was offset by her laughter. “Holy shit…” she breathed. “How did that just happen? What even just happened?”
Steve looked over at her and smirked.
“One of us had to get lucky eventually, right?”
And right now, with the rosy tint to her cheeks and the way she was absolutely vibrating with eagerness and excitement and anxiety -- all the symptoms of love -- Steve could safely say that he was glad it had wound up being her.

A Little Game, A Lot Of Torture.
The one in which G/ojo has been a bit of a (loveable) prick, so his friends decide to hold a little contest to see who can get him back the best. Contest rules? Whoever makes him sneeze the most in one attempt wins, you can’t get his help, you can only use one method. Let the games begin! (Do I have requests I should be working on instead? Yes. Was this idea haunting my every waking hour until I finally agreed to write it? Also yes. I promise I’ll get back to requests tomorrow <;3) Takes a minute to get into heavy snz stuff, but hopefully it's still enjoyable! (credits to @snzdreams for the breathtaking headcanon that even talking about sneezing gets G/ojo going, and I hope it’s okay that I borrowed your genius to use in this <3 and doubly hope it's okay that I tagged you in it <33) Also I want to clarify: while they were all in the same class in highschool, this is set post-graduation, imagining a future where they all still hang out. (AU technically I guess haha~) Just making it clear, everyone in this story is meant to be an adult. Picture early 20’s. Characters: G/eto, S/hoko, and G/ojo. Plus a bit of S/atosugu Word Count: 4.1k (whoops-)
(References to swearing in case anyone doesn't like that!)
~~~~~~~
The rules were agreed upon the day before, Geto insisting that they needed to be clear.
Rule #1: You only get one attempt. If you fail, or he manages to avoid/subdue the attempt, it’s over. You don’t get a second try. If you get subpar results, same as before, no second tries. Amendment added by Shoko: number of sneezes only counts from the first couple minutes. If said attempt results in sneezing for the rest of the day, those are not to be counted.
Rule #2: Gojo is not to be informed of this, or asked for assistance of any kind. You cannot ask him for a list of what makes him most sneezy, you must use your knowledge of him to come up with your own methodology.
And finally, Rule #3: You can only use one method. Said ‘method’ can include multiple inducing tools, so long as they’re considered one ‘attempt’. Ie. Multiple scented candles at once, or a bouquet of flowers are both considered one method. However, flowers and candles at the same time would be considered two. Amendment added by Geto: Helping him along with words doesn’t count as a method, and is therefore fair play.
With those in place, Geto and Shoko got to work, each with an idea in mind.
In order to not taint results the attempts will be held three days apart to give Gojo’s nose time to get back to baseline before the next attempt begins. Shoko is up first. Let the games begin!
~~ Shoko’s Attempt ~~
‘I’m at a disadvantage. I know Gojo, he’s my friend, they both are, but I’ll never know him the way Geto does. He’ll always know more of Gojo’s quirks, especially since they’re so obviously in love. They both deny it, but the looks they share when they think no one can see tells a different story. If not dating, the feeling is at least mutual.’
Shoko pauses her musing, letting a smile take over as she waves to the boys, starting her approach with a hand in her bag. ‘Always together, even when I’m not around. I know they care for me, but the bond they share will always be one step deeper.’ Despite this, she has a plan. Earlier she wrote out a list of what she remembers Gojo showing reactions to in the past, eliminating anything less than a full attack.
‘He’s quite sensitive, it doesn’t take much to set him off, but getting an actual fit from him is a touch more rare. Normally he has quite the exaggerated buildups, long and hitchy, which he makes a lot of noise about, but the actual sneezing is minimal. At least, compared to the results I’m looking for. No, I need something more than a simple sensitivity. If it was Geto I’d blow smoke in his face, but that’d only prompt a minor reaction out of Gojo.’
“Hiya Shoko, take a seat! Geto here was just sharing the mochi he bought!”
“I bought it for myself, you just stole half when my back was turned.”
“Come on, we both know if you put something sweet in front of me I’m gonna eat it.”
Shoko seats herself next to Gojo, sharing a glance with Geto when he’s distracted by the sweets once more. A darker tone dips into Gojo’s voice as he lets his sunglasses fall so Geto can see his eyes, a mischievous haze clouding them.
“You knew the risks, now you pay the price.”
“The price being my mochi?”
“Exactly! Now you’re catching on~.”
With that, Gojo grabs another one, laughter bubbling out as Geto attempts, and fails, to smack his hand away. However, before he can pop it in his mouth, he freezes, hand inches from his face. His breath catches, nose twitching. Shoko finds Geto’s eyes darting over to her, and she offers a slight shake of the head. ‘Nope, not my attempt, this is all him.’ Geto starts to speak, eyes flickering back over to Gojo.
“You alri-”
“heHh-! hah’adJSHhh’iew-! hep’gshh’iew-!”
“Blessings.”
“Guhhh- thank you.”
Shoko takes her turn to speak, eager to ascertain any possible advantages. ‘If he’s sick his nose will be extra sensitive, and I may be able to cinch this win. Especially given Geto needing to wait three days, ideally the window of sensitivity will have passed.’
“Feeling okay?”
“Indeed. This is just the price I must pay for being so talented- huEH’djZShh’uu-! I can't be perfect in every aspect, that would just be unfair!”
“Come again?”
Geto rolls his eyes, gesturing to the sky as he turns his gaze back to Shoko once more. Gojo meanwhile wipes a few tears from his cheeks, groaning lightly at the quickly increasing watery nature of his eyes.
“He’s just allergic to the sun.”
“I am not allergic- I’m just a tad sensitive to bright lights. Christ this is annoying.”
“Was the mochi really worth it?”
“Suguru Geto, don’t you talk like that! Mochi is always worth it!”
The eagerness has quickly faded out, Shoko letting an airy sigh press out between her pursed lips. ‘Right, I did know about this. I believe it’s called a photic sneeze response? He’s had it for as long as I’ve known him, though I believe he said it’s gotten worse the more he wears those glasses. Blocking out the light so much of the time only adds to his sensitivity when it inevitably breaks through. However, it causes very few sneezes, he said the main issue is his eyes watering.’
“If you touch the last piece I’m making you buy me a new one.”
“Aw- that’s not faiiiir!”
“Boys, boys, let’s not fight. I have a better solution.”
With that, Shoko swipes the last piece, grinning at the complaints from the guys as she places it against her tongue, savouring the sweet taste. Her mind dips back to her plan as Gojo starts to whine about being hungry again.
‘He’s incredibly sensitive, even the mention of sneezing is enough to get his nose itchy. Describing how much it must tickle is fair game, but on its own, pretty ineffective. He’s annoyingly good at holding back when he wants to be, so if he catches on that sneezing is what I want, he’ll do everything in his power not to. I just need him to think I’m teasing him for his reaction, can’t let him read deeper into my motives.’
“Shoko?”
“Hm?”
Her name pulls her back into the conversation, both Geto and Gojo watching her closely, a lopsided grin spreading across Gojo’s mouth. ‘Oh, I’m going to enjoy wiping that smug look off his pretty-boy face.’ Gojo speaks up again, Geto’s eyes following her movements as she casually lets her hand dip back into her bag.
“I was asking if you’d want to come with us to the mall, DiverCity specifically? I’ve been craving chocolates that they sell at one of the stores for days.”
“Funny you mention it, I was just thinking about that place earlier. I’d love to come, but I have an assignment. Next time though, yeah?”
“Aw fiiiine, but Geto, you’re still coming, right?”
“Sure, why not. I could use a few things.”
Shoko tunes out again, hand tightening around a bottle as she lets a smirk spread across her face. ‘Funny he mentions the mall, seeing as that’s exactly where I got my method from.’ The last time they’d gone together she’d been showing him around a store he’d never been to before. It specializes in calming methods, and given how stressful being a Jujutsu sorcerer can be, she finds herself drawn there often.
An employee next to them had been showing a few people a new pillow spray, and as soon as they’d spritzed it, Gojo had been bent over into his arm with a rapid fit. She’d had to drag him out of the store. ‘Quite embarrassing at the time, especially given how whiny he can get during an attack, but now? Now I’ll get to use that spray to get payback.’
“Hey, Gojo.”
She cuts into their conversation with ease, used to interrupting them. ‘With those two, someone is always talking. If you wait for a pause, you’ll never get a word in.’ Gojo turns to her with a curious look, across the blanket Geto mimics it, a hint of something deeper flashing through his eyes. She gives him a quick nod, smirk quickly spreading across his face as he attempts to cover it.
“You know how I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping recently? I found a new spray that has been really helping. I thought you might want to have a look at it, I know you sometimes struggle with insomnia too.”
“Oh, that’s kind of you, yeah show me- show me- show me!”
‘Kind isn’t quite the word I’d use, but I appreciate your excitement anyways.’ Pulling it from her bag, she’s unsurprised at the lack of recognition in his eyes. He’s never been one for cataloging irrelevant information, and for some reason he’d decided keeping a list of everything that sets him off was irrelevant.
Taking off the cap, she gives him an open smile, before spraying it right in front of his face. ‘Can’t risk actually hitting him, that would be too suspicious, but I want it to get as close to his nose as possible.’ The result, much to her delight, is instantaneous.
“hhaHhHH-! Wh- whAhht- what kind of sp- spra… sprayisthat… heH’gnDZShh’uuhh-!”
“Something wrong?”
“I think I’m- eH’GNDZSHh’uu-! I think- heHASIhh’oo-! ah’gehhzshh’iew-!”
“Are you okay?”
Geto’s watching carefully, Shoko’s sure he’s keeping count in his head. Still, needing Gojo to believe her facade, she offers sympathy, pulling a travel pack of tissues out of her bag. ‘Tissues that just so happen to be sprayed with the allergen. Still only counts as one method, according to the rules.’
“Y- yeah- hAgzshh’uu-! knDzshh’iee-! Oh, scus- scuseme- heHhh-!”
“Here, take these, you sound like you need them.”
“Th… thhhehHh- thank you- hH’GUHzshh’oo-! aiYISHH’oo-! aHH’DNGZSHh’uu-! Oh god…”
“Blessings, Gojo.”
Finally speaking up, Geto catches Shoko’s eye and mouths ‘nine’. She shoots back a whispered ‘so far’, catching a smile in response. Gojo’s too busy tearing into the pack of tissues to notice any of this, bringing one to his nose as he gets a pause in the sneezing. He manages to blow, breathing a sigh of relief, instantly cut short by an itchy inhale.
“heAHh-! hH’DnZShh’uu-! AYISHH’oo-! KETZSHHH’oo-! What the- henGT-! ainGT’shoo-!”
“Blessings indeed, Gojo. Are you alright?”
“The ti- tihhhckle- heH’kNGDT-! haAHh-! eh’dnZZShh’oo-! Scuse me- the tickle got wo- wo… worse… I’m… I’m gonna… heHh-!”
Shoko smirks as the tears start pooling in Gojo’s eyes, his nose quivering as it starts to flush a brilliant shade of pink. ‘Time to implement phase two: suggestions. Just gotta be careful not to tip my hand. He’s attempting to stifle, which will only help, it only makes the tickle stronger.’
“You must be allergic to the spray, I’m so sorry, I had no idea!”
“heH-! hh’gndJSHH’uu-! AIYShhh’iew-! heH’DJZSHh’uu-!”
“Oh, bless you. Sounds really itchy, are yo-”
“hH’DJEZSHh’aa-! Sh- Shoko- waaitt… ahh’keTShh’oo-!”
“-you feeling it? The burning sensation-”
“eh’GnDJZSH’aahh-! hAHh’inGKt-!”
“-filling your sinuses? Like a feather, gen-"
“nGEHT’choo-! hePt’choo-! eNgEHP’choo-!”
“-gently brushing the inside of your nose?”
“heAIISHH’uhh-! eh’GdJZShh’uu-! I need… I’m gonna… I can’t…!”
Geto gives her a pointed look, lightly tapping his wrist. ‘Time’s almost up, time for the home stretch. Gotta make sure I get one last fit outta him. I know exactly what to say.’ Gojo’s nose is pressed into his wrist, trembling with allergic need as the tears keep flowing down his cheeks, seemingly making the tickle even worse as they brush up against the edges of his nose.
“I’m so sorry, Gojo. If I’d have known you were this allergic I never would have sprayed it so close to your nose! I mean, the droplets must have just floated through the air, gently landing on your skin, right on the tip of your nose-”
“Cru- Cruel Shoko- hEH’EDZSHH’uu-! eh’KTZSHhh’aa-! aiYISHH-keATzhh’oo-!”
With that, Shoko meets Geto’s eyes one last time, mouthing ‘how many?’, quite satisfied by the ‘thirty-two’ she receives in return. Her satisfaction only rises as Gojo ducks into his arm with another tightly stifled burst, Geto raising an eyebrow at the display.
“hH’KNGt’choo-! iNGt’choo-! hah’DNGt’choo-!”
“Blessings, Gojo.”
“Snff- Thank you, Geto. Guhhh… I’m gonna be itc- itchy… hh’GNZshh’iew-! for the rest of the day.”
Shoko pulls the tissues from Gojo’s lap while his focus is aimed towards Geto, replacing them with a second pack from her bag. ‘As fun as it is to watch you suffer, my attempt is over, no need to prolong the exposure. This reaction is gonna last for most of the day anyways.’
“Blow again, it might help dispel some of the allergen.”
“Yeah, good- eh’aISHH’uu-! good idea. Ya know, that may help you sleep, but I’m- heHh-! hEZSHHH’aa-! I’m getting the vague notion it wouldn’t do the same for me.”
Geto laughs, a smile tearing through Gojo’s itchy face at the sound, Shoko soon joining in. ‘Always one step removed, just outside the joke, but that’s okay. At least for now, I’m in on the joke while Gojo isn’t. I can live with that.’
Final Results: Thirty-Two (32) sneezes from Shoko’s Attempt. Method Use/Application: Linen spray Gojo is allergic to, sprayed in front of face/on tissues presented to him. Sneezy talk was also implemented, increasing success.
~~ Geto’s Attempt ~~
‘Shoko’s try yielded better results then I was counting on. I may know more about Gojo but some facts escape even my grasp. I had no idea he was so allergic to that spray. However, that wasn’t what set her apart, it’s her cunning. She explained to me after that she sprayed it on the tissues. Truly genius, I would’ve never thought of that.’
This time it’s Geto’s turn to approach the duo, eyes closing as he smiles, Gojo giving a shout and Shoko putting out her cigarette. ‘I guess she doesn’t want to be called out for interference. It’s no matter, I don’t plan on letting anything distract me from my attempt. I didn’t have to think long about what to use, just how to best utilize it.’
“Geto! Shoko was just telling me about a new type of chocolate she saw the other day! Can we go buy some? Pleaaaase? Pretty please?”
“You still owe me for the last pack I bought you.”
“Aw, come on, you know you wannaaa~! You don’t wanna deny me of my happiness, do you?”
“You can have happiness without chocolates, Gojo.”
“How could you say such things?”
Gojo lets a pout spread over his face, lightly huffing as he leans his head against Geto’s shoulder. ‘Dramatic as always. Though, I guess that’s the reason we came up with this little challenge in the first place. One I’m sure to win with what I have planned.’ His mind starts to drift back to the first time he got to witness Gojo and lavender in the same room.
They’d been in a meeting together, the higher ups needing something Geto can’t recall now. It’s not of importance, even at the time it was one of the last things on his mind. Front and center was Gojo’s losing battle against the vase of lavender sitting almost mocking him on the table.
Normally, should the situation call for it, Gojo could hold off an allergy attack for hours, or at least upwards of twenty minutes. However, against the lavender he lasted no more than three, needing to leave the room just after seven because he was no longer able to form full words between the sneezing. The higher ups had been quite irritated, but today it would serve Geto well.
“Earth to Geto? Suuuguruuu? You there?”
“Huh?”
“Jeez, what is it with you two lately? Did I miss something, or is it just ‘stare off into the abyss with a smile creeping at your mouth’ season?”
“Sorry, I was just reminiscing.”
“Any particular memory you want to share, Geto?”
Shoko offers, eyes flashing with mischief as Geto sends a dark look in her direction, quickly replaced by a smile as she playfully sticks out her tongue.
“Not at the moment.”
“Oh, I know! Why don’t we play ‘share your favourite memory of Gojo’!”
“Yeah, no.”
“Aw Shoko, you’re no fun.”
Geto chuckles, ruffling Gojo’s hair as he gazes up from behind his sunglasses. ‘Just placing the lavender near him wouldn’t work. He could either leave the area, or the attack might not surpass thirty-two. The reason it had such a severe effect in the meeting was likely do to the pollen having a chance to gather in that tiny room.’
“Gojo, I have a gift for you.”
“A gift? You shouldn’t have!”
“Well if you don’t want i-”
“Hey, woah-woah-woah- of course I want it-!”
Reaching into his bag, Geto starts to set his plan in motion. ‘My best chance is getting some form of lavender where I can get it near his nose, close enough for the pollen to have a chance to float around him, but not obvious enough that he’ll just avoid it. I think this is the perfect solution.’
Making direct eye contact with Shoko, Geto sends her a message clearly. ‘My attempt is about to begin, get ready’. His hands grip around the present, placing it gently on Gojo’s head, fighting a smirk at the joy filling Gojo’s eyes.
“A flower crown!?”
“Yes. You showed me how to make them a while back, and so I made this one myself. I thought you might appreciate it-”
“Suguru… I love it! What kind of flowers are these?”
“Mostly sakura, though I did add a few other plants I found in the area to tie it together.”
‘If I just used lavender he’d simply take it off when he started sneezing. However, given that it’s not a type of flower he’s allergic to, it won’t be his first thought. Because of that, he’ll be too focused on sneezing to worry about removing it, letting the hidden lavender keep sending wafts of pollen down into his face. Plus, I made sure the sakura was quite pollen soaked. He’s not allergic, but with his nose already being set off from the lavender, the sickly sweet smell is sure to prompt a few extra sneezes.’
“It’s bea- hEHh-! Oh, scuse me. It’s beautiful.”
“You alright?”
“Yeah, just thou- ahHh-! Hehh… thought I was… o- oh… I am…. I’m- hH’DjZEShh’oo-!”
“Blessings, Satoru.”
“iHh’kETChh’uu-! S- sorry I… eH’DtjZSh’iew-! hEh’kezzchh-aiyshhh’aa-knGT’choo-!”
“And again.”
A glance over to Shoko tells Geto she’s keeping track, fingers tapping against the railing she’s leaning on with every sneeze. Gojo lets out a faint whine, hand coming up to scrub at his nose as tears start dripping from his eyes.
“hH’GNt’choo-! ehH-! Ohfuck- hH’NGT-EINGT-nNGT-knDT’choo-! aINGT’choo-! hAH’DJZSHHEW-!”
“Christ, Satoru, bless you.”
“knngT-! aIghNT’choo-! hH’YEZSHH’aa-! AIYShh’oo-! neH’GEDT’choo-!”
Geto risks another look at Shoko, barely containing his smirk at the dumbfounded expression she’s wearing as Gojo frantically fans his face. ‘I haven’t even started talking about the tickle yet. He’s more allergic than I remembered. I almost feel bad…’ His thoughts are cut off by Gojo pressing his rapidly twitching nose into Geto’s shoulder, hitching against the fabric of his shirt. ‘And that’s why it’s only almost.’
“henGT’choo-! hH’DEHgnT’choo-!”
“You should stop that, you’re not-”
“heH’KNDTZSHH’uhh-! ihh’GNXXZT’choo-!”
“-gonna be able to catch a breath.”
“You- you’re right… Suguru it- it tihhhhckles… hEaHh-! AIYZSZHH’uu-! kuh’MMZSHH’aa-!”
Gojo’s voice is muffled from the congestion already seeping through the cracks, and Geto feels a pang of guilt tear at his heart. It’s quickly replaced by something calmer as Gojo aims the next fit at Geto’s chest, flower crown shaking lightly as he ducks his head, only releasing more pollen. ‘Sorry Satoru, but this is well deserved. Time for a little power of suggestion.’
“aH’GnZH’euu-! hehHh-! hH’MMZSHHH’oo-!”
“Blessings. Those sound quite itchy-”
“emmpffshh’oo-! hEPT’choo-! ehP’choo-!”
“-don’t they? Something bothering your sensitive-”
“hHMPPT’choo-! AInGT’choo-! S- Suguru- hNGT’choo-! heH’KDZGT’choo-!”
“-nose? I bet it’s tickling something awful, isn’t it?”
Meeting Gojo’s watery eyes, Geto lets himself slip right into stage three of his plan, time quickly running out. ‘Knowing him, he should be sensitive enough by now that just the word sneeze will set him off. Let’s try to get a handful more. I believe I’ll win anyways, but better safe than sorry.’
“eNGXXT’choo-!”
“Don’t you just-”
“hepDT’choo-!”
“-have to…”
“hAhHh-!”
“Sneeze so badly?”
“hAH’ADJZSHH’uu-! keTSCHH’aa-! AIYZSHH’uhh-!”
“Blessings again for those sneezes.”
“I kn- know what…. Ohgod- hEH’EDZSHHEW-! guhhH’DNZSHH’oo-! I know what you’re doing.”
“Doing? I’m simply blessing you as you sneeze.”
“AIYZSHH’oo-! hH’GNkZSHH’uhh-!”
Taking pity on him as Shoko mouths ‘time’s up’, Geto pulls the crown from Gojo’s hair, tossing it to the side as the sneezy man ducks into his arm for another fit. ‘Whoops… maybe I should have removed it a bit sooner…’
“iNGt’choo-! heASHH’oo-! kEtCSHh-aizshh-kezZSHH’uu-!”
“Bless you Satoru…”
“You- hEHnGT’choo-! Sound quite gui- guilty- eh’knSHH’uhh-! Guilty, Suguru. Why ever could- hh’gEZSHH’aa-! Christ… Could that be? Wouldn’t have any-hNGSHH’iew-! Anything to do with my having two allergy attacks in the past four days, would it?”
Geto’s eyes snap to the floor, a warm tint starting to spread across his cheeks, Shoko chuckling as she lightly pats Gojo’s back, letting her eyes close with a slight huff.
“I think he’s caught us, Geto.”
“I believe so.”
“hNNSCHh’iew-! Would someone care to explain to me what’s going on exactly?”
“Of course, but first we should probably get you some allergy medication. There was lavender in the flower crown.”
Gojo’s watery glare meets Geto, his mouth hanging open. ‘Probably less from shock and more for the sake of breathing. I doubt much is flowing through his sinuses right about now.’ Geto can’t help but smile at the sight, pink nose vibrating as Gojo attempts to end the attack by pinching it shut, tears streaming from his gorgeous eyes. ‘If he wasn’t so miserable, I’d want to see this side of him more often, he’s quite adorable like this.’
“I want to be mad bu- knDJZSSH’uu-! But I proooobably deserved this.”
Laughter erupts from the group, Shoko nearly falling over as it bursts from her chest, Geto pulling Gojo closer as they start walking back into the school, explaining the competition to a still sneezing Gojo.
Shoko leads them to her office where she keeps a stash of medications for situations like this. ‘Well, not exactly like this,’ Geto chuckles to himself, ‘I doubt there’s even been a situation quite like this one. Oh, that reminds me-’
“Say, Shoko, I did win, didn’t I? Even not counting-”
“hHNGTshh’aa-!”
“-the bonus ones?”
“Unfortunately, yes. It’s not like I stood a chance in the first place, you two obviously know more about each other.”
“Actually, I didn’t know he was allergic to that spray. That was all you.”
“Huh, really? Interesting. Oh- I guess you want to know the numbers?”
Geto flashes a smile, eyes wrinkling as Gojo whips around with another small fit aimed at the floor. He nods at Shoko, murmuring a blessing against Gojo’s hair as he convulses.
“heh’gnZSHhh’oo-! eh’kshhh’iew-! heHh-! hAH’DTZShhh’uu-!”
“Again, not counting the extras, you rang in at forty-two. Exactly ten more than mine, surprisingly enough.”
“Oh Christ, that wasn’t counting the ones I- hH’gnZZShh’aa-! I’m still doing?”
A blush spreads across Gojo’s face, one of the strongest sorcerers in the Jujutsu world apparently not immune to embarrassment. Shoko offers a laugh in response, rummaging through her desk until she finds a blister pack, handing it over. Geto grabs a bottle of water from the fridge, passing it to Gojo with another blessing, lightly cupping his face for just a second.
“I saw that, ya know.”
This time both men blush, Shoka rolling her eyes playfully, then throwing a box of tissues at Geto. Gojo hastily yanks out a handful, blowing his nose with a deep groan before sniffling into the pile.
“Clean him up, will ya? It’s been a long day, I’m headed home.”
“hH’AieZSHH’uu-!”
“Let’s play again some time, shall we, Shoko?”
“Yes, let’s. Next time I’ll beat you for sure.”
“hAH’ZASHH’oo-! How ‘bout next time it’s a free for all? I’d like a little chance for revenge.”
“This was the revenge, Satoru. Ours.”
“Oh fine, but you two owe me some chocolates! Oh- oh, and mochi!”
Shoko smacks Gojo upside the head as Geto lets a laugh burst from his chest, the other two soon joining in harmony.
The world outside may be a dangerous place for a Jujutsu sorcerer, and the three of them aren’t immune to the stress, but right here, right now, they’re just three friends sharing a laugh.
Final Results: Forty-Two (42) sneezes from Geto’s Attempt. Method Use/Application: Lavender hidden in a flower crown already dripping with sakura pollen. Also used suggestibility, increasing success with sneezy talk.
