Thoughts on TBB 3x14: Flash Strike
SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT
Penultimate episode, people! 😨 This better not be too traumatising, I have a flight to catch later...
"Odds are against the Batch..." THANKS FOR THE REMINDER, EPISODE DESCRIPTION. I ALREADY KNOW THAT THERE'S A CHANCE THIS ISN'T GOING TO GO WELL AND I DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT THANK YOU VERY MUCH
"How's Echo going to get off that ship?" I'm with Wrecker on this one! I need to know how my boy is going to stay safe!!!
Well this is already going tits up
Crosshair, I think everything is failing, let alone the shields
THIS IS BATSHIT WTF
Rampart's screams are sending me 😭 he hates life so much rn
Echo's little head tilt when he got the idea for the disguise 🥺
THE END OF THE SCOMP POKING OUT OF HIS SLEEVE I'M DYING
Echo's content may be limited this season but it is absolutely top tier
Poor Crosshair. Having to go back to Tantiss was not something he ever needed to be put through again, but the respect I have for him putting himself through this to rescue Omega is immense. Crosshair was never cold and heartless and he just continues to prove that. 🫶
"Unfortunately, yes" The way they all shit on Rampart is incredible
The Kiners are absolutely killing it with the soundtrack as per usual 🔥
"Thanks for the hand" THIS MAN ISTG
Echo actually reminds me so much of Fives rn and it makes me both very happy and very sad
THE DROID CHUTE AGAIN?! Ffs, Echo
OMEGA, BE CAREFUL I DO NOT NEED YOU LOSING YOUR HEAD
"Depends on who's giving them" The evolution of Crosshair is so personal to me. Being a good soldier was never bout blindly following orders, it was about helping people, which meant knowing whose orders you should be listening to. Watching Crosshair grow to understand that he doesn't need to blindly follow whoever is in charge is heartwarming. This man has come so far.
"Deadweight" 😭 The nicknames for rampart continue to pile on
Well, the giant furry thing coming back isn't ideal
Omega, bestie, you are really stressing me out rn
ECHO THE HAND IS GOING TO GIVE YOU AWAY
...what did I just say?
"Not just her. We're here for all the prisoners you've been experimenting on" Truly Echo being Echo
THIS SHOW IS TOO STRESSFUL I CAN'T COPE
There's so much to wrap up her. What happened to CX-2? What are they gonna do with Rampart? Where did Wolffe go? What ever happened to Cody? What happens if the Batch do get off Tantiss? What then?
Like last week, I really enjoyed this episode, but I'm still worried about how this is all going to get wrapped up. I wouldn't;t be surprised if SW announced more shows that end up going back to some of these story points, but without confirmation of future projects, I feel like they really need to wrap up the loose threads in this show as much as possible.
✨ manifesting a 1hr finale ✨

Updates from The Eclipse Talk (including P'Golf, P'Yokee, P'Prapt) about Kanthua/Neolouis:
1. P'Aof directly casted Neolouis along with First Khaotung without any auditions (actually, they were already looking for scripts for them so P'Prapt wrote the novel, KT sent photos of his tattoos to P'Aof etc etc)
2. Kanlong was the most difficult character for the author to write (Akk being the easiest because the novel version is just like the author) because he was a bit cartoonish/manga/anime-like with his nature (the show doesn't really do justice to that side of it)
3. Because Neo asked for his character to be serious, the staff accommodated and the writer also wrote back stories for Kanthua in the series
4. Due to Neolouis' acting and chemistry, a lot of their romantic scenes were improvised on set (they're not in the scripts!) and therefore, increased. (Louis said this in an interview and I cannot recall if this was mentioned in today's talk?😂 Sorry 😂)
5. This is definitely mentioned in the novel but because they also asked will say - Kan means horny; his name is actually just Long so his name means "Horny Long"
6. Oh, Kan doesn't actually have internalised homophobia. He is just afraid to confess to a friend
7. Edited: They said acting for Louis was a bit of a challenge because of the difficult nature of Thua's character
(Will post about First - Khaotung in sometime)

Part 2 of the Eclipse Talk:
1. GMMTV was already looking to cast First Khaotung as a couple; they were waiting for the right script makes sense cuz they've been shipped off screen for far longer and GMMTV usually gets pairs with good chemistry and years long friendship
2. P'Prapt (the writer) was actually commissioned to write a bl novel in a school setting with political inclinations - the rest of it is his inspiration
3. His inspiration besides 1984 was Love, Simon because of the coming off age/self discovery thing
4. P'Aof (Director of Bad Buddy/ATOTS) was given the script and directly asked the 4 main leads to be casted and asked Khaotung if he had tattoos - all the tattoos in the series are his own
5. KT has a harder time to get out of the character and leaned more into the Ayan being depressed thing unlike the novel
6. The author came up with their MBTIs on spot. I think Akk was INFP. Not sure on this one
7. The staff really wanted to make sure that the show was queer friendly and felt inclusive to people of other races too (like in the café scene)
8. Unlike other Bls, they didn't want to waste time on the characters dwelling on having feelings for people of the same gender - they're all comfortable with the sexualities but hindered by their respective problems/nature
9. The ultimate message of the show isn't just about self acceptance in terms of sexual orientation or gender but just coming into terms with who you are (for example, Wat, Sani) and being true to yourself and accepting who you are
(If I recall anything else, will add later)

Okay, so headcanon: that first match in 2010 was a nothing match for Dashing Cody, he was probably really rude to Seth, probably told him he's gross or whatever and then moved on and didn't think about it again, but it was a big deal for Seth, he's newly signed to WWE developmental, Cody's the son of a legend, Seth's trying to impress anyone he can, he's trying to make an impression so he can get on the main show, anyway, he goes away from it like, fully hating Cody basically, the next time they meet up it's in 2012, Cody's the Intercontinental Champion and Seth's like, this is it, I'm going to embarrass that prick, so he challenges Cody for his title (that video I sent from March, 2012) but he loses again, Cody's rude to him again, says Seth is beneath him basically (all in the video) BUT the difference is, this time Cody /notices/ him, Cody goes away from the match /thinking/ about him, so when they finally meet again (the video from Sep 2012), Cody's rude like usual but it's in a less personal and more like, pushing Seth to fight his hardest kind of way, which Seth does and Cody like, gains a respect for him, which he shows him at the end of the match, which aslo like, catches Seth way off guard, he's been hating this guy, the son of his boss who is basically his Wreslting Dad, for like 2 years lol
Okay, so after the match, after Cody drapes Seth's belt over his shoulder and pats it respectfully, he goes back to the locker room and Seth stays out to talk to the crowd (and says that Cody's the future of the business (which he never would have admitted before this match) and that he hopes he is too, which the crowd gives him a really sweet and encouraging response back) so he's feeling like, really good, he won, he's a champ, he got that crowd support, Cody showed him respect for the first time ever, so he goes back to the locker room too, maybe they're like, coverty checking each other out idk, maybe Cody says something like, backhanded?? Like kind of a compliment but also rude lol? Cody gives off the vibe of a guy who's going to be comfortable making comments, like critiquing another man's muscle definition and offering unsolicited workout advice while standing with one leg up on the bench wearing a towel or his underwear or something, like, he's that jock guy lol which is rude but that's also how he flirts lmao
but he's also still this guy underneath it all, behind all the projecting and like, defensiveness
And maybe Seth gets a little glimpse of /that/ Cody and he's like, oh, okay, maybe I understand this guy a little bit more now, I still don't like him but he's hungry for it and trying to prove something just like I am, anyway, I think they should hookup in the locker room after that fight tbh (and I just mean like, quick makeout and hand stuff in a bathroom stall or something idk) and like, think about who Cody's been with in the storyline so far, Ted, bland and dumb as hell but sweet, Drew, Hot and Scottish but still finding himself, a little insecure like Cody, but more of a passionate lay than Ted, Randy was just like, using Cody sexually which I don't think Cody enjoyed all that much, there's probably some others here and there, but the point I'm getting at is that none of them were like Seth, like, an energetic dirtbag who would comfortably fuck in a dingy public bathroom which would probably gross Cody out tbh but you know what? It's also exciting and something new, and they're still rivals and they don't exactly like each other so there's also that energy which adds to it, anyway, I think they would go their seperate ways and not really talk again for a while but they /think/ about each other
He was a punk, she did ballet, if u will
But also Cody's dad/Seth's boss who he respects a lot is at that show? And neither of them want to actually get caught? So they're quick and quiet but that also adds a level of excitement to it?
Then they can hit the showers afterward and have a kind of awkward "see ya" moment as they're leaving, maybe Cody says something genuinely encouraging to him which seems to come out of nowhere but gives Seth a reason to like, maybe give this dickhead a chance again lol
If I stick to my original [fic] idea of like, Seth eventually letting that guard down and starting to kind of genuinely like Cody behind the scenes and maybe even love him? And like, trust him? And Seth's got that big chip on his shoulder and a need to prove himself just like Cody does and maybe even some trust issues already, and then Cody is just like "peace, I'm out, later losers" and doesn't speak to Seth again until their WM 38 match but this is how they started out? Whew

Spooktacular 2021!
Happy Halloween!!! This is an exchange piece for @awkwardproducktions! Really hope you enjoy, Rio!
Title: Candy Competition
WC: 1010 words
Pairings: Codywan, Foxiyo (background)
Summary: Cody always invites his brothers and their families over on Halloween to make their favorite Halloween treats. But with the addition of a few new members over the past few years, this Halloween promises to be one to remember.
@starwarsfandomfests
https://archiveofourown.org/works/34837174
The first year Cody Fett remembered making sweets with his family on Halloween was the first time his eldest brother, Fox, asked to go trick-or-treating with some friends from school, when they were still back in New Zealand. His mother and father said no because they didn’t want him or his other brothers accepting candy from complete strangers, which was frustrating at the time, because it made them different. Of course, now that he had a family of his own, he understood it now. Instead, his parents suggested they all dress up in their costumes and make homemade candy bars with said friends instead, and it was the most memorable day of his childhood.
Their family continued this tradition even when they moved to the United States. Cody continued to do this with friends in university where he studied sports medicine and practiced many martial arts, although it definitely included more alcohol during those years. It’s where he met his future husband, Obi-wan Kenobi, a student in his university’s English Literature Master’s program.
They met through their respective siblings. Obi-wan’s adoptive sister, Ahsoka, was best friends with Cody’s younger brother, Rex, who had invited Ahsoka and Obi-wan over for the annual Halloween Sweets-off, as it was dubbed all those years ago. Ahsoka was a junior in high school at the time, a year younger than Rex, and would often bounce back and forth between her house and the Fett house with Rex in tow. Cody had never met the infamous older brother, but always heard the occasional mention while Rex and Ahsoka hung out in the living room doing homework and playing video games.
On Halloween that year, when Cody had spotted the soft, ginger-haired wizard hovering close to the giant bowl of caramel for caramel apples, talking to Ahsoka (who was dressed as an airline pilot) and Rex (dressed as a steward), Cody knew he had to get to know him.
After a night full of lighthearted flirting and sugar rushes and crashes, Cody and Obi-wan exchanged numbers with a coffee date set for the Sunday after Halloween, and the rest is history.
Each sibling took turns hosting the annual Sweets-off. Cody’s second older brother Wolffe hosted it the year after they met, at his studio apartment that barely fit them all. He and his siblings always complained about the size but Wolffe always scoffed and said, “As long as there’s room for me, and Plo-dad when he’s in town, I don’t need anything else.” This, as always, led to further teasing about his mentor/second father figure, Plo Koon, who mentored Wolffe during his university years.
Both Cody and Obi-wan graduated from their respective programs that year and moved in together shortly afterwards. Cody got a job with his university as a trainer for the football team, and Obi-wan took a job as an editor with the local newspaper. They decided to adopt a cat and named her Boga. Ahsoka and Rex always dropped by to hang out, but it was mostly because of Boga.
The year after, Cody’s oldest brother, Fox, and his wife Riyo, along with their three-month-old child, hosted the event and they decided on a gingerbread house competition, where the goal was to make the most spooky house. But for Cody, his goal was to sneak the box that was holding the ring box of the engagement ring he bought three weeks ago into the inside of the house while Obi-wan was not looking. He was successful when Rex and Ahsoka began throwing icing at each other and Obi-wan had to run interference.
Cody and Obi-wan’s house came in second place after Wolffe’s, with Fox and Riyo’s in third place, and Ahsoka and Rex in last, mostly because they did not really make a house.
At the end of the night, they all took their houses home, and when Obi-wan broke off the roof to eat it, he finally was able to see the box. With slightly shaking hands, Cody finished pulling it out of the mess of crumbs and opened the box, revealing the small velvet box. No words were exchanged.
None were needed. The next morning, Obi-wan showed up to work with a band of silver around his ring finger.
This Halloween, it was Cody and Obi-wan’s turn to host and they decided to pay tribute to the first time they met and decided on candy apples. The usual crowd was invited, Rex and Ahsoka being first to arrive at their apartment, dressed as Jessie and James from Pokemon lugging a bunch of candy and decorations for the caramel apples. Fox, Riyo, and their two-year-old toddler arrived dressed as ketchup, mustard, and hot dog. Ahsoka immediately swept the child away to be “the best aunt” and started the play in the playpen they kept especially for the child. Wolffe and Plo showed up last without costumes on and were immediately boo-ed and forced into some spare costumes that Obi-wan kept just for such occasions.
Apples were stabbed, caramel melted, apples were dipped messily into the caramel, and everyone raided the candy decorations to make as many as they could before the caramel set. There wasn’t too much of a competition aspect this year, but all the brothers did have a contest to see who could eat one apple the fastest, which Rex easily won and high-fived Ahsoka after finishing a whole thirty seconds before Wolffe.
After clean up was done, Obi-wan pulled out as many pillows and blankets he could find and spread them out across the living room and ushered everyone to settle down.
“Okay, before we watch the movie, Cody and I have a special announcement.” Obi-wan called out over the chatter, which instantly stopped. Everyone knew what this announcement was. They waited a whole year for this.
“We’ve decided to have our wedding next year, on October 13th.” Cody announced proudly, looping an arm around Obi-wan’s slim waist and squeezing him tightly.
Loud cheers and whoops filled the living room, and didn’t calm down even when the movie started.

thoughts on loki ep 2: the variant (spoilers)
under cut to not disturb your scrolling
Overall I enjoyed so that's good
Uh frick my mind blanked so sorry if things are completely out of order
I don't know, I expected the renaissance fair to be 2012 or 2021 or 2024 (Loki's time, our time, current time in the "sacred timeline"). So I was genuinely surprised when it was in 1985.
Ok, i really like the title card thing. And how the year scrolls around. It's a nice aesthetic touch there.
I wonder why the female Loki variant chooses her locations? Does she have a thing for renaissance fairs, French cathedrals, and Oklahoma?
1985 is when Back to the Future came out. And it's y'know, one of the most popular time travel movies ever. So I think they chose that year as a reference.
Again, not liking that the minutemen only have numbers, not names. It is giving me lots of Clone Wars vibes. If you don't know anything about Clone Wars, the clones are given number identifiers by the Kaminoans. Things like CT-7567. The clones would give themselves names (CT-7567, for example, names himself Rex). A really good sign throughout the series that someone is a sketchy person is if they call the clones by their numbers. The clones don't want to be known as numbers. They are people too, they deserve names, so they come up with all sorts of creative names (Rex, Fives, Cody, Tup, Hevy, Hardcase, Echo, Waxer, Boil, Wolffe, Jesse, Kix, Fox, Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair, Omega, Tech, Matchstick, etc). The jedi respect this, and the only jedi that i can think of that called clones by their numbers is Krell, who fell to the dark side. the Kaminoans and other sketchy people all call them by their numbers and the clones don't like it. A big focus of the show is on the clone's agency (at the end, they all have brain chips that take away their agency and force them to kill jedi), and how the clones need to be respected. So for me to see in another series that people are only given numbers is bad. What's worse is that the minutemen are fine with this. They don't see it as dehumanizing or belittling. They are brainwashed into being okay with it. Which says a thing or two about the Time Keepers.
did. did the renaissance fair really have Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" for their renaissance themed fight? Is this normal? Was it normal in the '80's? We saw later that the female Loki can do electronic stuff. Did she rig it to play it? For the vibes?
Also the stuff before the song was about fighting for a princess, and in the end she kidnaps C-20.
Okay, btw, I'm just gonna say Lady Loki for a while because no one has explicitly said Sylvie yet, so I'm going to refer to di Martino as Loki until she or another calls her Sylvie. Cool? Cool.
I was thinking the "Holding Out for a Hero" fight would be the roomba fight or something. It is such a good song that has huge potential for this genre. Why did they use it in a lame fight as that one?
When Lady Loki did the spell on C-20, it looked similar to what Wanda and Agatha can do. As in, it had similar visuals.
Loki reading a random magazine he finds while sitting with his feet on the desk bored out of his mind because he has to learn sh*t is a MOOD.
What is Miss Minutes? She can jump around anywhere, and pop into computers. But she can't be just a projection. She took the effort to dodge Loki swatting at her, so that may mean she was corporeal. She also could be something similar to the Kree's Supreme Intelligence?
So, did Mobius give Loki the shirt, tie, and slacks, but really didn't give him the jacket until they had to call him in? What? That makes no sense? Did the TVA not have any jackets with the variant label? Did someone have to custom design a jacket for Loki?
What is up with this show giving me things I wanted to see only in holographic form? First we saw Coulson's death, and now Loki in his Jotun form in a holograph of another variant.
Okay, Loki being someone the TVA has to constantly deal with is very on brand. Loki is a creature of chaos, of course he's going to unknowingly rebel against the sacred timeline.
Also, headcanon that the Jotun Loki we see is king of Jotunheim because that would be epic.
Also, for personal reasons I choose to believe there is a Loki variant that defeated the Avengers and immediately went queer rights.
Loki's reaction to there being many Loki variants. He's seen what his life is supposed to be. I think he is even more upset that the TVA often deals with him, that there are so many things that could have been instead if it weren't for the TVA and the "sacred timeline."
Also, I totally think Mobius was waiting for another Loki to show up to help him defeat Lady Loki. They get them so often, it makes sense.
Loki explaining the difference between illusion projection and duplication was great. And very helpful to me personally understanding lore. Also, Mobius, get your crap together. If you're a Loki expert, figure this stuff out.
Loki calling the TVA out on propaganda, we love that.
The wolf quote is actually very nice, I quite like it.
Okay, the TVA doesn't even bury or cremate or do any sort of ritual for their fallen minutemen, they just reset the timeline. Which to me seems like another way to show how little the TVA actually care for their workers.
There are statues of the Time Keepers in Ravonna's office. The camera pays extra attention to it. Keep reading for more about Time Keepers and cinematography choices.
What. What sort of relationship does Ravonna and Mobius have? What is going on there? I am really confused.
Who is this "analyst on the side?" What is going on there?
Ravonna is MEGA SUS. Along with that, the Time Keepers are mega sus.
She signs R. Slayer. Yeah. Slayer. Not at all subtle, Marvel. Letting us know that she'll do the deed if needed.
Mobius you are sending me mixed signals. What do you want?
Okay, Mobius saying Loki was a "cold, scared boy" and an "ice runt" and stuff was totally a jab at Loki being Jotun.
Mobius saying Loki is insecure because of Lady Loki is...probably true.
With the elevator, the camera stops and focuses on the Time Keepers.
The Creation of the TVA, the beginning of time, the end of time, all classified. That is sus.
Loki almost crying over Ragnarok was good. Let him cry over the destruction of his home.
Loki being the one to discover something the TVA had no idea about after a day is on brand for Loki. And it shows how the TVA really are vulnerable.
Mobius: Really? In front of my salad?
No but the object lesson was well done and actually did help me understand what Loki was talking about.
Casey! Casey drinks grape juice! Imagine how confusing this is for Casey though. Loki is captured, threatens to gut you like a fish (whatever that means), and now he's dressed like an analysist, stealing your juice box. Does Loki get Casey more juice?
Honestly, Loki looking at everything logically and scientifically is fantastic. Adds to the science = magic thing Marvel's got going on, since Loki is a sorcerer.
Loki saying volcanoes are cool is fun. I agree. Volcanoes mean the planet is geologically active, which means we won't die. Also, there is a volcano named Loki on one of Jupiter's moons. I wonder if the creators knew that and put Loki in Pompeii because he is already linked with volcanoes.
Mobius telling Loki to start off small and Loki completely disregarding that felt very personal to me.
Loki being absolutely chaotic and telling everyone they were going to die while speaking perfect Latin was iconic. I want more of that content. Let the man be buckwild.
Again, Loki finding something out after a day that the TVA never knew about is on brand.
"Be free, my horned friends, be free!" I love that way too much.
Mobius being obsessed with jet skis wasn't something I expected, but I'm down for it. Heck, even Loki admitted they were cool.
The discussion on beliefs is going to lead to saying the Time Keepers are bullcrap. Hopefully.
Grapes and nuts are "candy" on Asgard. So, when Loki was eating grapes in Ragnarok, we can interpret that as him eating M&Ms. Second, this might add to something I've seen around here. I've seen things about a book somewhere with Loki saying chocolate fountains are mythical (which is really funny to me). So, I guess Asgard really doesn't have chocolate.
Oh my gosh, so many apocalypses between 2047 and 2051...hopefully none of those happen in real life.
Roxxcart is probably part of Roxxon, something that has been around in Iron Man movies.
Lady Loki got the shovel thing from Roxxcart that she left in Oklahoma! The minutemen said it was from the early third millenia, which is where we are now! 2050 also fits that category!
I saw something about the file saying Class 8 hurricane...there are only 5 classes...which means this is a crazy storm.
Does B-15 want Loki dead? This is a legitimate question, because I think she does. Dead or pruned.
Loki looking around at the storm, I love it. This could be him loving science, or him missing Thor, since Thor creates storms. Also, at this point Loki probably things Thor dies shortly after him in the sacred timeline, so Loki would be particularly sentimental about Thor.
I love Loki drying himself off and not anyone else. And B-15 yelling about his magic. And Loki's motions are so fluid, it's so aesthetically pleasing, I love it.
Dudes, I thought B-15 was going to try to prune Loki when they were alone.
Okay, was Lady Loki bsing about the azalea sale, or does Roxxcart actually do that? I want to know.
Wunmi Mosaku did a really good job as Lady Loki, I loved it.
Loki being annoyed at Lady Loki and saying he understood how Thor felt, does that insinuate Loki can do what Lady Loki was doing?
B-15 and C-20 were both very shaken after being possessed by Lady Loki. I wonder how that felt for them? We've had different explanations of mind control/brainwashing/similar from Clint, Bucky, Daisy, Mack, Fitz, and Monica in the MCU (including AoS). I wonder what is specific to Lady Loki's possession.
C-20 kept going on about something being real. What was that about?
C-20 revealed the location of the Time Keepers to Lady Loki!
Lady Loki not wanting to be called Loki could be a sign she is Sylvie.
There's something weird where Loki's voice echoed around while the camera focused on Lady Loki. Maybe she's telepathic?
Someone needs to keep a tracker on people telling Loki this isn't his story in a show literally about him.
But, that does add to themes for his life, and how everything was always about someone else in his life. He was always a supporting character for Thor, for Odin, for Thanos. Now, even in his own story, everyone insists he doesn't matter.
I was wondering what the reset charges would be used for. I wasn't expecting a massive bombing of the sacred timeline! Wow! That was unexpected and I loved it!
Okay, this isn't from me, this is from New Rockstars. But to list all the places mentioned on chronomonitors, either bombed or not: Knowhere, Barcelona, Niflheim, Dartford, Phong Nha, Lisbon, Vormir, Thorton, Cookeville, Asgard, Rome, Sakaar, Barichara, Porvoo, Ego, Titan, New York City, Tokyo, Hala, Kingsport, Xandar, Beijing, Madrid, Portland, Jotunheim. Bolded are other planets. Those are almost all the planets visited in the MCU. So fun easter eggs there!
I like Lady Loki's aesthetic. The fingerless gloves, the cloak, I love it. And YES SHE ISN'T SEXUALIZED. So many genderbent characters are excuses to sexualize women. But Lady Loki is just as covered as the male Lokis.
Lady Loki just...left the time door open for Loki to follow...for a really long time...I'm worried he's running into a trap.
What is Loki going to do now?
Theory time y'alls: Lady Loki bombed the sacred timeline to flush the minutemen out of the TVA, leaving it defenseless. And she's gonna go after the Time Keepers themselves. We know she gets into the TVA from trailer footage, and that's what I think we're gonna see next episode. I think she (like the Loki we are following) is upset over the lack of free will, and she plans to change that. That's why she wasn't interested in helping Loki "take over" the TVA, because she doesn't want to become the leader of a new TVA, she wants it destroyed.
Alright, back to the Time Keepers stuff. They keep focusing on the middle Time Keeper. Even in the end credits they have a weird cut to focus directly on his face. I'm not 100% on this, but I like this theory. That face is similar to Jonathan Major's, the actor confirmed to be Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kang is a well known time travelling villain in Marvel. Maybe he is Kang, and is using variant versions of himself (that's a Kang thing in the comics) to mess with the timeline, and no one expects that from him. Also, Renslayer was his S/O for a bit in the comics, and they keep framing her in front of that one Time Keeper's face. I feel like this would be a good way to set up Quantumania and to show how sus the Time Keepers are.
Also, Loki was absolutely adorable the entire episode. And he got to sleep! Yay for him!
Again, I enjoyed, and can't wait for next week!

Cody Rhodes & Kenny Omega = Frienemies or Hidden Enemies.
Tumblr media
1. How Cody Rhodes feel about his relationship with Kenny Omega?
Three of pentacles reversed
Cody Rhodes frustrated with his work conditions and he is often insecure about his own abilities with Kenny Omega. Cody Rhodes feels alone in work endeavours and there is a lack of communication skills with Kenny Omega. There are often issues with anger as well between him and Kenny Omega. I feel that Cody Rhodes think Kenny Omega don't fit in the WWE crowds or wrestling mainstream media. Because Kenny Omega isn't a typical WWE superstars. Cody Rhodes want Kenny Omega to be like the next John Cena without the goofy antic. Cody Rhodes take his wrestling career seriously but he is low key insecure on his direction of AEW. He is so worries that Kenny Omega will leave AEW on bad term after their fall out with each other. I feel that Cody Rhodes tried his best not to cause problem with him and Kenny Omega. However, There is gonna be a lot of damage control with wrestling article about them being friends again. But I see there are wrestling journalist or wrestling vloggers will exposed real truth about Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega not being friends at all. I can see it play out as actual storyline in AEW. If not, I can see both of them are going on their separate way.
2. How Kenny Omega feel about his relationship with Cody Rhodes?
King of wands reversed
Kenny Omega think Cody Rhodes needs to learn to control his temper. He think Cody Rhodes have too much ego and expect everyone to tiptoe around him and cater to his every need. Kenny Omega think Cody Rhodes have difficulties taking responsibility for the state of their relationships and often blame him. If something goes wrong on their relationship. Kenny Omega feel Cody Rhodes is being unfaithful on their relationship. He doesn't trust Cody because he betrayal him in a business deals that cause their relationship to be a issues. Kenny Omega think Cody Rhodes is a very vain person in real life. He see Cody Rhodes believe himself to be much better looking than what he is in reality. At worst Cody Rhodes really has the habit of believing everyone is secretly in love with him. In reality, People around Cody Rhodes are very uncomfortable of him. Cody Rhodes only want to talk about topics he is interested in, which usually involves talking about himself. And people are very uncomfortable of that. I feel like Kenny Omega don't like people who like Cody Rhodes. It's nothing personal but I feel Kenny Omega dislike Cody Rhodes.
3. The Problems in their relationship?
The Wheel of fortune reversed
Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega relationship have become a bit chaotic. External forces have been affecting their relationships and change is around the corner. I see Cody Rhodes focus on his unborn daughter and Brandi. He want to make a name for himself as a Rhodes. I saw that Cody Rhodes really want to be in politics than Hollywood. As for, Kenny Omega....I see he wants to settled down in Japan and live a quiet lifestyle there. I see Kenny Omega don't want to go to WWE. He just want to retire from wrestling without drama. But now, There are drama because he doesn't want to go to WWE. I feel is a reason why Cody Rhodes was angry at him. Because Kenny Omega doesn't want to go to WWE. Cody Rhodes see that is huge money for Kenny Omega goes to WWE. Cody Rhodes is a businessman in the end of the day. As for Kenny Omega not going to WWE it's will mess up his wrestling business plan. Cody Rhodes using Kenny Omega for his career to rise up to be a bigger star in wrestling. And Kenny Omega wouldn't allow Cody Rhodes to use him ever again.
4. What Cody Rhodes can do to help his relationship  problem with Kenny Omega?
Page of wands reversed
Cody Rhodes will become a bully and mean-tempered person who likes to show off and he is demanding attention from Kenny Omega. By he will be involved in a doomed project with Kenny Omega over a heavyweights champions match in AEW or NJPW maybe WWE. There is an unhealthy competition going on between them. Cody Rhodes wants to have more meaning and responsibility in their relationship, and he will create drama out of boredom and due to lacking direction. Cody Rhodes will and his wife Brandi will put out article about Kenny Omega which is false or true to see how Kenny Omega and his fans reaction. Cody Rhodes is so good with social media and news media.
I think Cody Rhodes wife Brandi was a journalist before she meet him. So, It's make sense that Cody Rhodes will release article about Kenny Omega and him with Brandi help. I feel Cody Rhodes will do damage control by release article and reappear on BTE with young buck. Cody Rhodes want people to think there are no problem with him and Kenny Omega. Nevertheless, I see Cody Rhodes is blackmail on his relationship with Kenny Omega.
5. What Kenny Omega can do to help  his relationship  problem with Cody Rhodes?
The Chariot
I see Kenny Omega going it alone and avoiding Cody Rhodes. I feel Kenny Omega want to distancing himself from Cody Rhodes and his friends. Kenny Omega isn't a dramatic person in real life. He is more of a peacemaker and laid back type of guy. Kenny Omega trying to stay out the drama between him and Cody Rhodes. Kenny Omega has overcome a lot of obstacles in life and he is feeling stronger and braver as a result. He and Cody Rhodes aren't friends but they have mutual respect for each other. Kenny Omega is moving forward without Cody Rhodes.
6. Likely outcome for Cody Rhodes?
The Fool
Cody Rhodes will has difficulties in committing and not knowing what he have before it is too late between him and Kenny Omega. Cody Rhodes see true friend is hard to find when time is hard. He will regrets what he did to Kenny Omega. I can see that Cody Rhodes will change when his daughter be born. He will have a change of heart with Kenny Omega. I feel Cody Rhodes say some not so nice thing towards Kenny Omega about his sexuality. He will apologize to Kenny Omega when the time comes. However, Cody Rhodes is a human being himself. He is not perfect but he does his best to be a better person each days in his life.
 7. Likely outcome for Kenny Omega?
Two of swords reversed
Kenny Omega is chaotic and at times very confrontational. He lack tact and he's always saying the wrong thing at the wrong time to Cody Rhodes and his friends also family. I can see Kenny Omega get confrontation by Cody Rhodes. He just snapped and swear at him without thinking. Even Kenny Omega will put Cody Rhodes on blasts about what Cody Rhodes did something towards him. I wouldn't say what Cody Rhodes did to Kenny Omega but I see Kenny Omega will probably do a tell all shoot interview or a tell all book in Japanese. And his relationship with Cody Rhodes.
I feel Kenny Omega keep terrible secrets of his abuse from those who can help them. He need therapy because of it.
8. Overall Aftermath on their relationship?
The Hierophant reversed
I see Kenny Omega might be feeling suffocated or restricted by the same old same old in his social life.
Kenny Omega is eager to open up his mind to new ideas and possibilities, but Cody Rhodes is too stuck in its ways to join him. I see Cody Rhodes might not be ready to join Kenny Omega in taboo breaking social norm, but the Hierophant suggests that Kenny Omega might be! I do see Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes have different beliefs in life but they'll be cordial with each other in later future.

YOUR MESS IS MINE - Chapter 1
It was not a large crowd, but there was only so much space in the Southside Ballroom after the ring and the ramp was set up. Still, it was a larger crowd than I had seen in a long time. My hands were stinging and my knuckles were bloodied, but it didn't bother me. I was feeling something, even if it was for a short time. I was in one of the back stage rooms and trying to clean up. I could hear the cheers in the front room, and I closed my eyes trying to focus on that white noise. Once I let out my "little demon", I had to get her back in the box.  I felt my rage slide back into that place in my brain and I gritted my teeth and looked in the mirror. That might be the start of a shiner on my left eye.  Cool.
My hair had gone prematurely gray a year ago, so I had dyed it jet black. It was a mess after the match, with strands coming out at all angles from its braid. I turned the water off in the sink and I tried some relaxed breathing to help flush the adrenaline from my system. It had been an intergender match, and there was becoming more of a call for men against women lately. My opponent, Denny, had been tougher than most guys I had fought. Denny, also known as Dallas West, was a big guy at 6 foot 2 compared to my 5 foot 3. He didn't mind doing the job for me because I never pulled punches and never did anything fake. My hits were real, and I expected the same from my opponents. In the end, he was glad to put on a good show with someone he respected.  Even if it had been a while since I had been in the circuit.
There was a darker side to me, and one that I was very careful with.  My "little demon" craved the pain, and I was never sure what we enjoyed more.  There was something special about the crunch of my fist hitting someone's face, but feeling the bumps and scrapes made me feel alive in ways I didn't most of the time. It was not something I was proud of, and in some ways I felt ashamed by it.
My long ago past had been pretty crazy, but in the last year or two, I worked to keep myself as even kilter as possible.  Sure, I could be a regular woman by day. People were more likely to take me serious if I was acting stable, so I work to keep the crazy under wraps. Business attire by day, caged animal at night.
I opened my eyes feeling myself return to the fine upstanding citizen I liked to project. Grabbing a towel, I sensed I was no longer alone. Drying my hands I looked up to see a familiar face. Not that I knew the guy, but he was certainly recognizable even dressed down as he was. His glass blue eyes shined, his stark blonde hair blazed in the darkened room, and his Cheshire Cat grin was unmistakable.
"Good evening, Mr. Rhodes." I said politely with a smirk.
"And a good evening to you, Ms. Kelly. That was one hell of a match out there."
I tossed the towel down, picked up my bag and smirked at him. "I appreciate that, but Denny has a way of making people look good."
Cody shrugged. "I've seen other videos of you. There are some of your European tour around two years ago. More from five years ago when you toured the states and Mexico. It's impressive."
I shrugged. "Well, a lot of people can catch some of that stuff on YouTube. I'm just now kind of getting back in after a small hiatus. It has been a little harder to catch attention now that there are more female wrestlers getting the spotlight. It's nice that some people are seeing some stuff I've done." I stood there attempting to make it look like I wanted to walk out, but I could tell Rhodes wasn't going to move out of my way. In fact, he stepped into the room, moving closer to the lockers and leaned against them.
Running a hand across his jaw and scratching what seem to be a tiny bit of stubble on his face, he smiled at me. "Do you have any idea why am here?" he asked.
"I'm guessing it has something to do with that company you got started a while ago."
Cody grinned. "So, you have heard of us. What do you think?"
I put my bag down realizing that we were in for an actual talk. I wasn't opposed to the man. It was more of a guarded feeling I had. Too many times have I seen people that I respected in the business get picked up off an independent circuit and then molded into something they weren't. Cody Rhodes had a reputation for being different, but I didn't have the connections I once had to find out for sure.
"Well, I haven't seen a whole lot of my kind of style in your women's division. Your Japanese  headliners are  awesome and you have some amazing talents. But, I am a hardcore queen. Pure brawler style. I am a very much a supporter of inter gender matches and tag matches. You guys don't do that." I said with a blunt edge to my voice.
"Yeah, well, in the beginning we weren't really sure what we wanted. There were some that felt we needed to keep the inter gender matches off the shows and even others that wanted us to limit the blood when it came to the women's division.  Now, with a year under our belts and the new outlook we have brought to fans, we have more people wanting those back alley bar fight matches.  There is also more people wanting to see women go up against some of the men, and a lot of our guys are open to it.  A couple of them you have already worked with." Cody said.
"I know who is on your roster.  You don't have to give me the run down."  I said a little louder than I had intended.  The issue for me was there was a few people, and one in particular, I was not on good terms with.  When I walked out on wrestling, I had walked out on several friends and relationships in order to get my life in order.
"Ah, well, we all have ghosts, Kit." Cody said softly and his face gave way to an expression of regret.  There was a heavy silence that fell on the room, and I heard a bang from some pyro for the last match.
"Well, are you going to make it to the point of your visit?" I asked.  Cody seemed to shake it off and slid a hand into his jacket.  Pulling out a thick brown envelope, he said "This is not a contract.  It is an offer of temporary employment to determine if we have a permanent place for you with our family.  Come and work out with us, do some dark matches, make some connections.  Get back into the business and let's see what happens."
He held this envelope out to me.  My impulse to take it was strong, but my body didn't move.  He smiled and set it down on the bench.
"I am not going to change your name.  I am not going to change who you are.  No one is.  We want Kit Kelly - whoever she is right now, and we hope to be a part of whoever she is in the future.  Where we go from here is up to you.  Read it.  Think on it.  If you sign, I will see you in San Antonio Monday morning.  We have a show coming up and some of us got in early."  He turned and began walking down the hall whistling as he went.
"Jesus." I whispered to myself.

hii jaksjdkd @\deweyducks is my children's media sideblog but this is my main so i'll send my ask from here but like...god that's so weird??? i haven't gotten to that episode yet (i'm on international dateline and cringing) but. barbara and cody were so sweet (and!!! a good interracial couple!!! that's important actually!!! why the hell would they make them cheat on each other when it has been established that doing so would be horrifically out of character for both of them) if they really wanted to put him with bailey the whole guy waits for girl after she repeatedly says no trope was not the way to go. at all (and yeah!!!!!! zack and bailey could have been something actually but i want to see where things go with him and maya once she shows up) and i actually would love to read your essay :)
I’m sorry, I will turn anon back on soon 😅 (and I get it, this used to be a sideblog until I accidentally deleted and then I decided to just make two mains instead but).
(For real! Like, yeah they were super important and good!!!! but if you had to have them break up, Barbara was going to stay in Boston and Cody’s on a cruise where he’s going to be a literal continent away at any given time. They really could’ve just done something as simple as letting them have an amicable breakup because the distance was too much instead of decimating both of their characters like that)
Anyway, I love Maya and Zack a lot, for the most part, they’re cute and I adore Zoey Deutch and Zack’s good with her so my love for what Zack and Bailey could’ve been isn’t really an either/or thing, I like both ships but just,,,
Putting Cody’s terrible characterization and treatment of Bailey aside for a moment, they pretty much made Bailey and Cody almost exactly alike. There are some differences, but they’re kinda few and far between. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing, you have to have some things in common with your S/O in order for it to work, but in the case of Zack/Bailey I really believe they could've been the good kind of opposites attract. Like, it could’ve turned into a situation where their differences turned into making each other better.
Like, in the case of Zack, we’ve seen in the original that he can actually do well in school (like when he went to summer school and was able to analyze Shakespeare fairly easily), he just needs a reason to really apply himself. And I mean, we know he would definitely do it to impress a girl alsdkfj (technically we saw that in the original too, when he told Maddie he got an 85 on his vocab quiz and he revealed that he tried to do well because she said she likes smart guys). Ofc, it’d be ideal if he was doing it for himself, but him actually trying in school, even if it starts as him just trying to impress Bailey, is not going to really hurt him in the end alsdjkf On top of that, I’m not sure if it’s canon or if I’m just HC’ing this, but I’m positive Cody has probably tried over the years to help him in subjects that don’t come so easily, but I know Zack, and whether we’re talking the og version or On Deck, I know neither of them would listen nor pay attention if Cody’s the one trying to teach him alsdjf He’d be way more apt to listen to Bailey, and I know she’d be willing to tutor him. And I know Bailey would celebrate his accomplishments, even if it’s as small as getting a C on a geometry quiz or something, and I feel like having someone like that, someone that shows him they’re proud of him and isn't constantly comparing his grade to Cody’s, could be enough to make him want to keep trying. (even if he isn’t always operating at 100%).
And on Bailey’s side; I totally respect the fact that she finds enjoyment in school-related things, and she definitely doesn’t have to have fun a certain way in order for it to “count” but. I feel like filling your day with only school/educational-related activities with no space in-between to breathe can so quickly lead to burn-out (especially if she goes to an ivy league, and you add that in with her going from being top of her class to being in a space where everyone was top of their class. But, again I’m getting off track). And, finding mindless, fun things to do in order to blow off steam is Zack’s exact area of expertise. (Like, I’m gonna be vague so I don’t spoil anything, but there’s legit an episode of On Deck where he teaches someone to relax and not make one thing your whole life). And I know this is adult me projecting cause she wishes teenage me wasn’t so serious, but Zack convincing Bailey to stay out an hour past curfew or skip one class wouldn’t kill her asldfjk Like, she might be upset in the moment if they get detention or something but you get out of high school and look back and you realize it literally Didn’t Matter. (i’m not being a great influence here, please don’t listen to me lklsjkdf)
Like, long story short, I just think that Bailey could teach Zack how to take things like his education and his future a bit more seriously, but Zack could show Bailey that you don’t have to take everything seriously all the time
And while we're on the subject; i know he was partially willing to keep Bailey's secret in the first episode because he wanted to room with a girl, but even after everything was revealed and Tuttweiller and Moseby were saying they had no choice but to send her home, Zack stuck up for her! He listened to her when she talked about why she wanted to go to seven seas high and how she wanted to see the world and he didn't do it for the sole purpose of using that information later in order to "win" her 🙃 He genuinely just wanted her to be able to live out her dream, and he did what little he could in order to make sure she got to keep living that dream.

‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’: Dave Filoni Discusses the Final Eps and George Lucas’s Ongoing Mentorship [x] A long time ago in a galaxy where Disney didn’t have its own streaming service, the future of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” seemed bleak. The fan-favorite animated series, which centers on the conflict that helped shape much of the franchise’s mythology, was effectively canceled when Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney in 2013. Though a sixth season eventually made its way to Netflix, the series was axed before several of its key story arcs were resolved, throwing future tales of spunky Jedi Ahsoka Tano, clone troopers Rex and Cody, and the series’ myriad of other characters into doubt (though Ahsoka and Rex would appear at a later point in their lives in the series “Star Wars: Rebels.”) It took six years, but longtime fans will finally get their long-awaited sendoff when the seventh and final season of “The Clone Wars” kicks off on Disney+ on Friday, February 21. IndieWire recently spoke to supervising director Dave Filoni about the series’ evolution, his role in the expanding “Star Wars” television universe, and crafting a story about the philosophical (and frequently literal) battle between good and evil while keeping things accessible for audiences of all ages. The most immediate difference longtime viewers will notice going from Season 6 to Season 7 is the show’s graphical upgrades. Filoni and his team had ample time to hone their talents and make use of new technologies while creating “Star Wars Rebels” and the results are apparent. While technological advances haven’t simplified the development of “The Clone Wars,” new tools have made it possible for the series’ animators to expand the scope of its action scenes to live up to the galaxy-spanning conflict the show derives its name from, according to Filoni. “It wasn’t simple, it’s not like we just go down and turn the ‘Clone Wars’ machine on again,” Filoni told IndieWire in an interview. “Some things get easier, but you’re pushing the boundaries in other ways. You find ways to be more efficient and achieve things with the number of clones we could put on the battlefield, while some types of effects and rendered textures have also changed. Overall, it’s not easier, but there are more possibilities.” One thing that hasn’t changed is the ever-present challenge of crafting a meaningful story when most viewers already know how things end (spoiler: Things don’t turn out particularly well for the Jedi Order at the end of the Clone Wars). “The Clone Wars” takes place between Episodes II and III of the Skywalker Saga, and though it features plenty of original characters and story threads, the series still needs to fit into the continuity of the franchise’s films. The final episodes of the “The Clone Wars” are less a continuation of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padmé Amidala’s stories — though they’re still key parts of the series — and more an opportunity to wrap up the arcs of fan-favorite characters such as Ahsoka Tano and Rex. For Filoni, “The Clone Wars” has always been less about what happens in the eponymous conflict, and more about why things played out how they did in other “Star Wars” media. For example, Darth Maul’s arc has already been wrapped up in “Star Wars Rebels,” but his return in “The Clone Wars” Season 7 gave Filoni and his team the opportunity to delve into the nature of evil and the Dark Side of the Force by contrasting the character with the machinations of Darth Sidious, the franchise’s chief big bad. “I began making ‘The Clone Wars’ right after ‘Revenge of the Sith’ came out and you didn’t know at that time that Anakin had a Padawan, or that Maul was alive, or anything about the personal nature of the clones,” Filoni said. “What happens in the end for these characters? Maul is an instigator for many of the things that happen and we learn things about him that tells us more about the perception of evil and the workings of Darth Sidious.” The series has featured plenty of recognizable characters over the years, while its various arcs fleshed out a dizzying array of obscure “Star Wars” characters and locations. “The Clone Wars” had several plot threads, including episodes that would’ve focused on Darth Maul, that were cut short due to Lucasfilm’s Disney acquisition. Some of these storylines were incorporated into Season 6, while others were released in the form of novels or comic books (such as the Asajj Ventress-focused novel “Dark Disciple”). Plot details about the unfinished arcs were eventually released online, but at the time, it seemed unlikely that they would ever see the light of day on the small screen. “The Clone Wars” Season 7 will finally resolve some of these unfinished arcs, starting with “The Bad Batch,” the season’s first episode. “The Bad Batch” kicks off a multi-episode arc and focuses on an unconventional clone trooper squad of the same name as they team up with Rex, Cody, and Anakin on a dangerous mission to save one of their allies. It’s exciting, kid-friendly viewing, like a Saturday morning action cartoon with particularly high production values, and full of venerated characters, equipment, and locales. In other words, it’s “Star Wars.” Though the franchise has continued to expand and evolve since franchise creator George Lucas sold his company to Disney, Filoni said he still endeavors to keep his “Star Wars” projects in-line with Lucas’ vision and noted that he still occasionally discusses series concepts and other ideas with Lucas to ensure that “The Clone Wars” and other projects are faithful to the franchise’s mainline films and ideologies. “We still talk and if I’m stuck I will bug George for ideas, because he is the canon,” Filoni said. “He created it and I respect that. One of my jobs and purposes is to keep things as intact to what George laid down as possible. It is for kids — George would always say that over the years — but the beauty is that everyone can watch and enjoy it if you get the show right.” As for Filoni, his career has continued to evolve alongside the “Star Wars” franchise. He began working on “The Clone Wars” 15 years ago (Season One premiered in 2008) and never expected the “Star Wars” gig to last more than two or three years. Since then, he’s created the aforementioned “Rebels,” and directed, wrote, and produced two episodes of “The Mandalorian,” the first live-action “Star Wars” series and a key factor in Disney+’s massively successful launch (Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in October).

Matt Hardy
For me because I can’t write an actual analysis
I-Con (ˈīˌkän) noun
1. One who is the object of great attention and devotion; an idol
2. A person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something
3. An entity that will not die
4. A being or force that is stronger than death
5. MATT HARDY
The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City was a scene set in Adam Page’s dreams. The stage had hosted acts like Brittney Spears, Avenged Sevenfold, David Bowie, Paramore, All Time Low, Guns N’ Roses, Korn, Iron Maiden, and two farm boys from the rural south who somehow sneaked in before the curtain fell. The wrestling fans in t-shirts, jeans, and bawdy signs, didn’t match the elegant balconies they crowded. The ring was a jagged piece of metallic architecture placed on an old warn, wood floor. Adam Page, twenty-two years old, settled in the far corner with his heart in his throat and his childhood idol adjacent to him. The microphone lifted to Matt Hardy’s lips like he intended to speak. At that moment as Matt Hardy looked over the crowd, it was like a fantasy. Something he spun-up while he bounced on the trampoline with his sister and begged her to let him try the Twist of Fate one more time.
In the 1970 census, a few years before his birth, Matt Hardy’s hometown of Cameron, North Carolina had a whopping population of 204 individuals. In 1990, when Matt and his brother Jeff were mimicking the moves they learned off TV on the trampoline, the population was an impressive 215. Cameron was a small town in the heart of tobacco country, Virginia and Carolina being one of the few places in the United States to grow the desired plant. Running down to the coast, once out of the foothills of the Appalachians and Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina was flat and balmy. Unlike the dense red clay of the Piedmont region, the soil was silty and perfect for farming. Matt probably never saw more than a few inches of snow a Winter. A few hours to the East and he’d stand at the edge of the Atlantic. Along the cat’s claw thin barrier Islands, he’d watch the waves wash over white sand. Hear the whispers of shipwrecks the vicious coast of North Carolina claimed.
A stupid kid like Adam Page, eyeballs glued to the TV screen as WWF played Monday Night Raw or later Smackdown, heard these stories of the Hardy Boyz and looked at his own life. Aaron's Creek, Virginia, made Cameron look like a metropolis. Adam’s hometown was so small it didn’t even deserve a Wikipedia page. His family had deep roots in Virginia because it was a state for lovers. His father also raised tobacco and Adam grew-up amongst the viridian fields, laid out for acres around the house he grew up in. There wasn’t a lot of money for Christmas most years and Adam knew more about the intricacies of cattle farming than he sometimes cared to admit to his classmates. Yet, while his best friends extolled the Hardys for their daredevil stunts, ladders, and chairs. Adam idolized them because they were a proof of concept. That it was possible for a hard-working, farm working, Virgin-lina boy, to grow-up and be hot shit.
In 2013, Adam was starting to warm-up, with a brand new Ring of Honor contract and some neon green trunks. At Final Battle, the crown jewel event of the promotion he just signed-to, Adam had no choice but to laugh as Matt Hardy was almost booed out of the arena the moment he got a mic in his hand. It made Adam feel like a hero. Of the two, the audience preferred Adam Page to Matt Hardy, just incredible. Of course, Matt Hardy, the iconic, was a manipulative and arrogant son of a bitch, who claimed more than was his to take. Never meet your heroes, they say, and when Adam met his, he was kind of a dick. Yet, when Matt Hardy clasped his hand and gave him a firm handshake, that felt like a small victory. An inner ten-year-old in Adam promised to never wash it again.
It was also a statement. A statement that even if Matt Hardy thought he was better than this everybody, he still had to treat Adam with some measure of respect. Never once did Adam allow the stars in his eyes to blind him. There was no point in fighting a legend if it was only half the legend— Adam was going to get all of Matt Hardy, or nothing. So, he slapped Matt Hardy across the cheek and dragged out the old champion.
A year later, when Adam worked under Hardy’s personal brand, OMEGA, Matt would talk up the youthful Adam Page. Call him the future of wrestling, with his impressive moonsaults, clever counters, fearless attitude, and ‘never say die’ mentality. It was a good showing that night. Adam showed a lot of heart. Surely, he impressed someone upstairs— but he didn’t win. And Adam didn’t know what the point of having ‘heart’ was if he couldn’t win with it. Having ‘heart’ is the wrestling equivalent of a participation trophy.
In the Hammerstein Ballroom though, in 2013, a Twist of Fate would plant Adam on his head and the match would end at seven minutes and twenty seconds. That same night, just a couple of months after their New Japan debut, the Young Bucks defeated ACH and TaDarius Thomas. In due course, the Jacksons would join the Bullet Club with one Kenny Omega. Next month, Jimmy Jacobs, Roderick Strong, and BJ Whitmer formed the Decade, then called Adam out in the same breath, all for daring to dream bigger than the East Coast that Ring of Honor frequented. That night, in New York City, in the heart of Manhattan, the Hammerstein ballroom became a pivoting point for Adam’s life. Matt Hardy was Adam’s first breakpoint.
Through the course of 2014, Adam followed Matt’s invitation into OMEGA and crisscrossed central Carolina in search of his next break. Alongside his then tag-partner, Corey Hollis, Adam wrestled one more match in the ring with Matt Hardy. With the addition of his equally strange brother: Jeff Hardy. An eight-man tag where for a  bizarre moment Adam was in the corner with the Hardy Boyz. Twenty years on from WWF ladder matches and the two men, closer to forty than thirty, could still go. Go with the speed and intensity of their youth. With the reckless abandon that defined their careers. These were the type of guys who looked at a wrestling ring and asked, “ you know what needs ?” Then answered: “More hardware.” Watching Matt Hardy, Adam learned when to slow, when to hasten, when to wait, when to press the advantage. Little tricks of the trade. He absorbed all of it like a sponge and held it tight to his chest. Treasure and gold to spend a little farther down the road.
Adam learned that Matt Hardy ran equal parts hot and cold. He was a little off, in a way that wasn’t healthy, but Adam blamed that on a history of concussions and injuries. Arrogant but in a way that was condescending and so he was always willing to groom a newbie to greatness. In fact, Matt Hardy took great pride in taking some young kid and making them a ‘star.’ In a way, every OMEGA recruit was some pet project of Matt or Jeff Hardy. No better way to pat yourself on the back than to make someone. It was never about the protege, though, it was about Matt Hardy. It was about his ego trip, to be able to say—
‘Look what I did for Adam Page.’
And he could cash in his ‘good person’ chip for the week.
Oh, and how Adam knows how it goes. Like, a favorite catchy tune.
BJ Whitmer ruffled his hair and a stupid twenty-four-year-old, hoping for approval, construed it as affectionate. Unaware that the gesture was more like the way a man polishes the rearview window of his new SUV. Yeah, he likes the vehicle, it’s expensive, he’s invested a lot, and he’d get really pissed if someone keyed the paint, but it was nothing but an object. A thing that he owns. A possession to be used and thrown away when it was no longer interesting. Adam was a good boy though and he’d do anything to be wanted, needed, useful. Even pick-up a chair and go against his better nature. The waves of frustration, internal conflict his own actions created, broke him until all that was left was a defensive, angry man biting at any hand that came too close. So, Adam no longer recognized who he was in the mirror. BJ Whitmer didn’t want to see ROH Champion Adam Page, he just wanted someone to carry his bags.
Falling in line with Cody was like falling into an old groove, well worn and well-trodden. When Cody handed that chair to Adam, he knew exactly what to do with it. How to hold Kenny fast and to twist his head so he’d see his incoming braining. Years ago Adam had been wounded and he had never healed. The blood festered and boiled, a slit through his throat hemorrhaging down his bruised chest. Cody stuck his finger in Adam’s festering resentment and anxiety, dug out his trachea. Weaponized Adam’s unspoken fear that Kenny Omega thought he was better than Adam Page and he was using Adam like BJ did two years ago. When Kenny ripped the US title from Adam’s hands and handed it back to Jay White —who he thought they all hated anyway— it was like a slap in the face. That was his moment, Cody declared, he ruined, he stole it. It took a couple of drop kicks from Kota Ibushi and a V-trigger he couldn’t technically remember, for Adam to realize he’d been played. Cody brought Adam no closer to his moment and Adam had ruined his closest friendships. All for a stupid belt.
Kenny never remarked on all of it, probably because he thought Adam too pitiful to deserve admonishment. Or, that his loyalty could be bartered for with games of Mario Tennis. So long as Adam stayed in line and kept his mouth shut, they were fine. Or, maybe Kenny was more forgiving than Adam gave him credit for. That was too much logic for his brain to handle these days, though.
His family once owned a gentle Paso Fino gelding. A sweet boy with soft brown flanks and soulful black eyes. While riding with his father Adam asked if he could cross a field with the horse, if the Paso Fino would canter. Could he persuade this gentle creature to do such a thing? His father chuckled and waxed, “of course you can, he aims to please.” And sure enough, Adam and the Paso Fino flew across the field, in the long smooth gait of the breed. It was beautiful and for a second it was like they shared a mind, but he wished his father never said those words to him. Because every so often, “he aims to please,” applies better to Adam than the horse.
FTR put a bit in Adam’s mouth and led him by the bridle for three months. Somehow their inevitable betrayal came as a shock. It had just been that drinking and joking with Kenny was nice, but the tension in the EVP room was like poison. While the Bucks sat easy, Adam was dying, and FTR, in their caring familiarity was like a breath of fresh air. He wished he could’ve been there for Kenny but he had been there for Kenny and didn’t he deserve a chance to unwind? Unwork the knife from his gut and enjoy an evening with old friends? Stupid, stupid, stupid, so stupid, so blind, so eager to please, that he’d trade real friends for fake friends. FTR played Adam’s fragile ego like a fiddle and left him in the aftermath of his own decisions. Alone and with just Kenny, who no longer wanted anything to do with him.
And after all those lessons, it was painful to realize that Adam Page was just another trinket for the Young Bucks to marvel over. A living, breathing camera stand to film BTE bits and then do the complex editing, giving a polish to the final product. That was the deal, he understood and agreed to it walking into the Bullet Club. He was to be the problem solver. The replacement big guy now that Gallows was gone. Adam beats up the enemies of the Bullet Club and he stays out of the title shot picture, good deal.  A jobber they can hand a trio belt to and smirk over because the Bucks are such good guys. Adam really thought they were his friends and Adam wished he could say he used the Bucks like he used BJ but he never loved BJ like he loved Matt and Nick. It was the first time he was ever happy being a prop but it still hurt, especially the outrage in their eyes when he started thinking for himself.
How dare he become a tag-team champion when that’s what they wanted?
That was the deal though with Matt and Nick, that he stayed out of the way. Adam violated the terms and their friendship crumbled around the broken covenant.
Kenny though, out of all of these betrayals and losses which had left Adam numb to the idea that he was better off alone—
Kenny fucking hurt.
Some of the ideas lacked foundation. Some floated in the bottoms of bottles of whiskey. Some were inklings from years of standing behind a man he was never going to beat. Most of them made Adam feel like an asshole. The ideas went along the tune of:
That Adam was a shitty replacement for Kota Ibushi, the golden lover trapped on the other side of the pacific. When he was in Japan and had unwedged his head from his ass, Adam liked Kota. Kota was brilliant, a true star, and he understood, totally, why Kenny loved him. There was nothing personal or even resentful in this uninspired realization. It wasn’t jealousy. It was the truth and it was a truth Adam had to bear when Kenny let him collapse in the middle of the ring at All Out. Kota Ibushi could win a G1. Become the intercontinental and IWGP heavyweight champion all in one night. Adam couldn’t even beat Chris Jericho. Kota Ibushi was the God of wrestling and Adam Page was the dirty sinner kicked down to the dust where he belonged.
That Adam was a useful tool for Kenny. Just good enough in the ring to carry a tag-team when Kenny was at the far end of a losing streak. A good bolt of confidence, standing on the shoulders of a younger guy. Before he launched off and took the world title belt he so rightfully deserved. The gleam in Don Callis’ eye when Adam shook his hand told him that this was all part of the plan. Adam was written into the script and hit every line he was supposed to. Adam wondered if he was chosen because he was volatile and insecure, and Callis knew that would just push Kenny away. Away and towards Don Callis, and his machinations. Don used Kenny and Kenny used Adam— maybe, it was just Don all along.
That Adam was a pretty thing Kenny could flirt with. Soft, yielding, supportive, loyal, and eager to put his energy towards someone willing to take it. Like a fucking dog, or something. Hope told him there was something to the way Kenny murmured ‘cowboy’ to him in their private moments. That Kenny’s interest went beyond physical and a desire to be topped by a handsome guy like Page. The bitter reality, the pessimist and realist in him, told him it was hollow, fake, that he was being played again. Damnit, though, if he wouldn’t take those crumbs. Because he couldn’t say ‘no’ to Kenny when he smiled. Because he loves Kenny and he can't stop loving Kenny.
He truly was eager to please.
“Well, it’s okay. You can’t be number one forever anyway, right? Sometimes you gotta take a back seat, and I don’t mind taking a back seat, if it’s to you, buddy.” And Kenny had smiled and nudged his elbow, and Adam hadn’t thought about it as he fiddled with his silly little action figure. When Adam thought back on that interview and thought back on all his twisted thoughts about Kenny, he had almost broken down crying. Because he didn’t know what was true. Kenny was high-up there in his mind and Adam wasn’t sure he could ever shoot him down.
The second Adam Page snatched the title from Jay White’s hands he had known the truth. The light had shone in his eyes and he had flinched. He realized the cost of fame and fortune. The crossroads he stood at, paralyzed in fear and trembling to make a choice. Maybe, he was grateful when Jay defeated him and he could return to the darkness. However, the taste, the warmth of the light, the way his chest swelled and his heart rose, pure, innocent, like a child seeing his first snow, was addicting. Adam knew that he had to step out of the shadows. Out from behind Kenny, Cody, and the Bucks, or he would perish there in the dark. They were never going to turn around and dredge him out of the abyss.
Adam had never realized there was a choice, though: his friends or his soul. And he wonders how many times those friends had made it. How many times the Bucks chose some merch sales over him. How many times Kenny chose a title over him. He knows Cody had chosen his ego over him. Was there a balance? Someplace where you can stand in the light and have those you love with you? For flashes of moments, he sees it, in the Golden Elite, or when the Bucks flanked Kenny in the ring. The balance was called love and it could overcome all trials, or so he’s told. It could mediate the choice between yourself and others.
Yet, Adam knows he’s chosen wrong once or twice, already. So, he’s not sure that kinda love is for him.
John Silvers was on one knee, hand extended, with a goofy grin that Adam had come to appreciate. For the first time in a year, he had felt light and free. It had been nice to exist in a bubble of appreciation and warmth. Yet, there was no room to wiggle, and like a caged, fearful animal, Adam lashed-out. The wording got to him, on the following night when he was thinking about it. He said: ‘I can’t,’ and not ‘I won’t.’ Like, he was physically incapable of saying ‘yes,’ and yet the Dark Order seemed to think ‘no’ was an impossibility. How did they get so screwed-up?
Friendships come with obligations and Adam was aware he’d been shirking his. Not because he felt entitled but because he wasn’t sure he could bear the weight. That he wouldn’t take a stumbling step and collapse on his fractured bones. And that would just be a different kind of a disappointment for the Dark Order than just hearing ‘no’ right out the gate. It’d be his failure with the Bucks and Kenny all over again. Anna was right, Adam had to move on, so they could move on, and maybe it left him bitter that he couldn’t utter an apology, but that’s how things shake-out these days.
The Bucks didn’t want his apology either.
And now, that brought him back to Matt.
Matt Hardy reappeared like a literal ghost in the Summer and Adam still wasn’t sure if the whole Damascus thing was a bit or not. Just that while he sat in a warm bath, water up to his knees and bubbles floating around his elbows, he looked up Benjamin Franklin on his phone. “Franklin was a leading writer, printer, political philosopher, politician, Freemason, postmaster, scientist, inventor, humorist, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat.” Given that Adam Page’s passion since childhood was professional wrestling and throwing his delicate body through tables, none of that resonated with him. And he wasn’t sure if Matt meant he really was the reincarnation of a founding father, or if it was just an apt comparison, but something about the phrase:
‘Join or Die.’
Felt like the story of his life.
Adam’s father kept records of all the songs he listened to when he was growing up. On a rare lazy Sunday, he’d put on the vinyl and let it spin so the music filled the house. Marty Robbins sang of quick finger rangers with big irons on their hips. Waylon Jennings and Lee Greenwood, dreamed of something lost, something mournful, as they rode alone. There was a cost to independence, and beneath the wide brim hat were tired, dark eyes, haunted by those the cowboy left behind. He rode into town looking for a lost love or a home, or just some water for his horse. He’d leave as soon as the plot finished and the town was saved but while the townsfolk rejoiced their salvation, the hero slipped from the jubilee. He was looking for a place he belonged and this was not it, and Adam wondered if he kept looking because there was no place he belonged.
After Dynamite, he took shots in his living room with his dogs laid over his legs and he thought about his wording. ‘I can’t,’ he told John, because, reasons he couldn’t justify in front of an audience of five thousand. So, it seemed fitting that this odd friendship he developed, with another group looking to use him and throw away, began with Matt Hardy. Began when he eliminated the iconic legend from the ring and ended with Matt Hardy, in the ring, begging Adam not to change in the hallway.
Adam didn’t believe a single word Matt said.
He didn’t believe he was a good person who deserved to be happy. He didn’t believe that the Dark Order was awkward — it was, and that’s why he wept with whiskey last week. He didn’t believe that there were no strings attached. He didn’t believe that Matt’s intentions were good or genuine, or even kind. Hell, he never believed John Silver when he called Adam handsome and amazing because that kinda flattery was useless.
He did believe that Matt was going to use him. He did believe that when Matt Hardy brought down the other shoe it was going to hurt like hell. He did believe that by this point, Adam was so calloused, scarred, and numb, that the pain wouldn’t even register. He did believe that he was so desperate, alone, and miserable, that he’ll take any bone thrown at him. He did believe that whatever plan Matt Hardy cooked-up for him was going to end up with him back in the dirt. He did believe that he no longer cared enough about himself to care. He did believe that all he wanted was a place to hang his hat and to lace his boots.
He did believe Tony Schiavone when he said, “you should take him up on that.”
Because, shit, who wants to change by catering?

There's a swarm of people in the building with him, and everyone seems to be working on four things at once. The most pressing project is a scramble to get the latest edition of Road to AEW on TNT up on the fledgling promotion's YouTube channel. Editors jump from computer to computer. All Elite Wrestling's Oct. 2 debut on TNT is weeks away, but the rush is on.
And Cody is in his element.
He, too, is doing four things at once. Gossiping about Chris Jericho's recent lost-and-found escapades with the AEW championship belt. Keeping track of announcer Tony Schiavone as he fights his way here through traffic. Strategizing with members of his team as they plot out story arcs for a wrestling character called "The Substitute" that they invented on the spot when Cody found out that Charlie "Clothesline" Ramone, one of the jack-of-all-trades trainees in his entourage, used to be a substitute teacher.
Oh, and being interviewed. Constantly in motion.
The desk is not his, nor is the building on the outskirts of Atlanta, nor even most of the video team. It's all largesse provided by wrestling legend "Diamond" Dallas Page, who has let the AEW team all but take over his DDP Yoga studio as it launches what could end up being the first true competitor to WWE that wrestling has seen in decades.
When Page walks in, Cody quickly replaces his nameplate with Page's, a bit they would later modify and steal for YouTube.
The mood is light, and Cody's eyes are bright, despite a schedule that would break most mortal men.
It's an energy level that is both exhausting and exhilarating to be around—and those in his wake say this is how Cody operates nearly 24 hours a day. He isn't merely a vice president for the purpose of YouTube sketches. He's working hard, seemingly nonstop, on getting the promotion off the ground. If he's not in a conference call to discuss business operations and budget, he's in one for marketing or for creative concerns.
Or, as he will later this day, he's sneaking in a workout, a reminder that in addition to his many duties in the office, Cody still has to step into the ring and deliver a world-class match, whether against Sammy Guevara in the opening night on TNT or in a title match against Jericho at AEW Full Gear, the company's next pay-per-view, scheduled for Nov. 9.
It's a delicate balance—the same one his late father, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, pulled off for years as both one of wrestling's most potent in-ring attractions and one of its most powerful behind-the-scenes forces.
"I've never seen him not in this mode," Page said of Cody. "His old man was always positive, too. It didn't matter how gloomy s--t was, he never sold it. I would be like, 'Dream, how do you stay so positive?' He's like, 'That's the only way to be. You can't sell it, D. You can't let them feel it.' He was saying, 'Don't let them ever see sweat' before it was a commercial.
"Cody has that same confidence."
Schiavone sees the same quality. "He draws people to him. I think he's a natural leader like his dad was. His dad used to say, 'You've got to be able to walk a room like Richard Nixon.' Dusty always said that Richard Nixon could walk a room better than anybody. Dusty was like that, and I think Cody's like that too. I think you're immediately drawn to his confidence and the way he presents himself."
This, Page adds, is exactly what gave Cody the guts to walk away from WWE in the first place, despite being pretty much guaranteed a seven-figure paycheck and an all-but-guaranteed lifetime position with the leading company in his field.
He couldn't imagine life as just another corporate cog, a life where he never gave it his best shot.
"He wasn't afraid to walk away from the table because he knew he had something. Really had it," Page said. "And it don't matter who else sees it. He did."
And AEW will need every bit of that bravado.
Yes, it has the backing of the billionaire Khan family, which also owns the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars among its many assets. Yes, it has a time slot on TNT, one of cable television's premium outlets (and, full disclosure, a corporate partner of Bleacher Report). Those are solid underpinnings to build on.
But entering what wrestling fans are calling the "Wednesday Night Wars," a head-to-head showdown with WWE—which is airing its own popular NXT show in the same time slot as AEW on TNT—this is still very much a startup trying to disrupt a corporate beast.
To succeed, it will need to summon every bit of bravado and energy and leadership Cody has in him.
If it does, it will be remembered as the culmination of a rivalry between two families as alike as they are opposites—families with the drive, creativity, energy and force of will to take a wild and woolly business in their hands and mold it into something remarkable.
While the leading roles in front of the camera have been played by Hulk Hogan and The Rock and Ric Flair, the Rhodeses and the McMahons have spent decade after decade battling for wrestling's very soul. Theirs is the story of two proud families, two distinct visions and just one business—one that the younger Rhodes is betting is big enough for both of them.
A Dream and a Rivalry
Dusty first became a force on the regional wrestling scene in the late 1970s and continued right through the fearsome battles of the '80s. Even in a world filled with big men and even bigger personalities, he was larger than life—275 pounds of blue-eyed soul who became one of the sport's true national acts thanks to the power of Ted Turner's SuperStation WTBS, one of the first cable stations widely available around the country.
His connection with the audience was legendary. In his most famous interview, he literally reached out to the camera, inviting viewers to do the same at home, to touch his hand so they might fight the good fight together. It's enough to give you shivers: emotional, powerful and poignant.
"When he talked, people f--king bought it," said Page, a family confidante. "Because he believed it. Invested 100 percent."
Dusty was savvy enough to make his greatest weakness a strength. Even in his younger days, tight perm shimmering with either sweat or blood, depending on how the match was going, he had a jiggle. By his 30s, there is no polite euphemism for what he was—a fat guy in a muscle man's sport.
Rather than work against him, his appearance was a differentiator. Dusty sashayed around the ring as the avatar of every guy in the audience who had gone slightly to pot but still fancied himself a tough guy despite outward appearances. He was the common man who hid heart, guts and sinew beneath a healthy protective layer of flesh.
But as big as he was in the ring, it was outside the squared circle where he truly made his mark on the industry. He had a vision for wrestling that was bigger than studio television, too big to be limited to National Guard Armories and the like in Florida.
His dream for America was an American Dream: big, grandiose, sometimes crazy and foolish—blood-and-guts action paired with powerful interviews—fueled by borrowed money and hope.
What it wasn't was boring, even for a second.
He created the modern wrestling supershow with Starrcade in 1983 and then powered Jim Crockett Promotions through the early stages of the wrestling wars with idea after idea—a series of stadium shows called the Great American Bash, an ultraviolent spectacle called WarGames and the cable television special Clash of the Champions, to name just a few.
"I don't think people realize the importance of what Dad did in the early 1980s," Cody said. "Boxing comes along later, but before all that, Vince and Dusty put pay-per-view on a map. And it's cool: Every year at the Hall of Fame, when my dad was still alive, he would kind of count the number of people who thanked him. Jokingly, he'd nudge you. Like eight people every year would say, 'Man, thanks Dusty for giving me my start. Without you, none of this would have happened.'"
The other version of wrestling was glitzier, a human cartoon. But while most critics preferred the Rhodes brand, Vince McMahon and his WWE won the wrestling war. Dusty had to swallow his pride, and in 1989 he went to work for his rival.
Put in polka dots as the "Common Man," he made the best of it, turning those yellow circles to gold in memorable, money-making programs with the "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and "Macho Man" Randy Savage. It was the Dream without the raw edges, and like most of what McMahon did in that era, it seemed to work.
"Him and Vince butted heads over many things," Dusty's wife, Michelle Runnels, said. "They had different ideas, and they both had really strong personalities. But he had nothing but respect for Vince and what he accomplished. Vince did a lot for this business. He took it from a world of regional promotions to a huge conglomerate. Dusty had nothing but respect for that.
"It was making money for the boys, and for Dusty that meant everything was great."
After a few years working with McMahon, Dusty went back to the WWF's competition until it finally closed up shop. He tried and failed with his own wrestling promotion in the southeast, spent time on the independent circuit, working well into his 50s doing the only thing he'd ever known, putting food on the table the only way he knew how.
Dusty spent his final decade working for the man who had bested him. When the McMahons offered him a lifeline and an opportunity to work with developing talent with their NXT brand, Dusty didn't hesitate. At NXT, he continued to fight for his vision of wrestling. Working this time mostly with Vince's daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Triple H, he turned his attention to the future of the business.
McMahon may call the shots backstage at WWE Raw, but the passion and spirit that fuels the dreams of many WWE performers was nurtured by NXT's old oak, who often invited them to sit under his learning tree. There is a generation of budding stars who came through the WWE Performance Center in Orlando who call themselves "Dusty's Kids."
His legacy lives through them—and through Cody and Dustin, the original Dusty kids.
"Dad would be really proud of everything his boys are doing, especially Cody," Dustin Rhodes said. "He not only left the other company to go out and do his own thing, but he's actually attacked it and is in a position right now to do some amazing things. And I know Dad would be really proud. I wish he was here to enjoy it with us, because it's a fun time.
"We miss him terribly. We don't like to harp on it a lot, but we do. But we work and we keep going and we keep doing what he taught us to do. That's 'Do the work' as Cody says and 'Keep stepping' like I say. That comes from Pops. That's what we do. That's what our family was raised to do and what we've been doing for so, so long. I think our name, our legacy, is in a good place right now and we are continuing his legacy. And we will keep the name relevant and alive for years to come."
The Scion
Cody has been many things in his 34 years—athlete, actor, husband and executive, to name a few. But before he was any of those, he was a son.
"We were like the Addams Family," Cody said with a laugh. "We lived in a neighborhood full of lawyers and business people, and we were this weird family. [Dad would] come to the pool in his trunks, like his actual 'DR' wrestling trunks and his 300 something pounds...on the diving board. A lot of my friends from the neighborhood, that was their first exposure to me. Like, That's your dad? That guy?"
There is power in names. In some ways they define us, defying us to live up to the expectations that come with them or giving us something to run away from. For Cody and Dustin, their last name opened doors but also came with a price. Dusty spent a lifetime at the top of a very competitive industry, cultivating a few close allies and a much longer list of enemies and fair-weather friends.
So when Cody told Dad one day on the way home from Waffle House that he wanted to give up on an acting career and join him in the wrestling business, his father sat in his enormous F-250 pickup truck and cried.
"He did not want either of the boys to go into the business because there's a hardship," Michelle said. "There are expectations of them. People think they have it easy because of their father when in reality their paths were not easy at all. Dusty had been on both sides of the business, and he'd had a lot to do with people's careers. He made a lot of decisions, and most made one person happy and another upset. There was resentment against him from some people for a long time. And he was afraid those resentments would get transferred to his sons."
Dusty's fears, perhaps, were prescient.
It's easy to dismiss the big gold belts, to scoff at an athletic accomplishment that's gifted before either wrestler hits the ring for a match, but the truth is championships matter in wrestling. There is power in being positioned as the top performer in your industry.
And Cody, despite checking all the boxes one would normally expect a contender to check in his decade in WWE, never won a world championship.
Not that he'll give away responsibility for that.
"There's this long-standing kind of rumor that Vince has it out for the Rhodes family," Cody said. "If he does, it's deep in there. It's not...it was never on the surface. It's deep in there.
"What happened to me at the end of my career in WWE is not WWE's fault at all. Totally mine. It really is. I wasn't ready for the role I thought I was ready for. If you want to be John Cena, you got to do the exact same amount of work he does. And that's a lot of work. I wasn't doing the work that I should have been doing."
The promotion, right or wrong, never saw Cody as a wrestler at that level. And as uncouth as it is to admit, he craved it. He wanted to trade in the goofy gimmick he was wrestling under, Stardust, and ascend the few remaining rungs to the top of the card. The recognition could validate everything—from his decision to walk away from Hollywood to donning the face paint as Stardust to being a team player and making the best of every embarrassing thing he was asked to do.
Maybe it was parental and not professional judgment. Either way, Dusty saw things differently. He saw Cody as a champion, a talent with endless potential to achieve greatness. But by June 11, 2015, it still hadn't happened. Dusty Rhodes died that day of septic shock after a long battle with his own body.
The dream he inspired, however, was too big to ever fully pass into the great beyond.
"I got a boost of bravery when my dad passed away because all I ever wanted to do was be world champion while he was still alive," Cody said. "That was my biggest fear in life: I wouldn't win it. And I didn't win it. It was such a silly fear, but it came true. He didn't get to see it. He never asked for it. He never was pressuring me on it. It was my own pressure.
"But after that, I thought, 'I have zero to be afraid of.'"
Death crystallizes things. Powerful doubts and desires that might otherwise linger in the subconscious rise to the surface and demand action. Cody knew he was unhappy. He knew why. He even knew exactly what his dad would say about it.
"The one thing Dusty really wanted for all four children is for them to be happy and to live up to what he thought their potential was in whatever their chosen path ended up being," Michelle said. "Cody wasn't happy in WWE. Dusty would have said, 'Son, you need to do what you need to do. You do what is right for you.'
"Dusty made a terribly hard choice when he left Florida. Eddie Graham had been his mentor and had been like a father and was very upset, but he had to leave because he wanted the opportunity to be involved in wrestling on a larger scale. He would have understood and seen what was going on with Cody. I don't think he would have been surprised at all."
First Cody went to agents like Arn Anderson, telling them that he needed a change, that he wanted to put the Stardust gimmick away forever. Eventually, he found his way to Vince's office. At every step, he received pushback. And so, he and his wife Brandi decided to walk away. She gave her notice first, and that's when the company realized he might actually be serious about leaving.
"Hunter [Triple H, Vince McMahon's son-in-law and heir apparent at WWE] took it very personally because he had done so much for my dad at NXT," Cody said. "There was one conversation where he said, 'I'm shocked that you feel this way after everything I've done for your family.' But I told him, 'I'm not my dad. I can't stay here out of loyalty to you for giving my dad a job in 2005.' I get it, and the little boy in me really appreciates what you did for my dad. But I'm not him. He's not here anymore. I've got to be me. ...
"I think Hunter, he's been in wrestling long enough that he knew, 'Oh, this is a real one. He's not asking for more money. He's not asking for a title shot. Nothing would matter at this point.' I let the burn get too bad before I said anything, if that makes any sense."
WWE made an effort to keep both Cody and Brandi. They floated the pair contracts large enough to give pause. But understanding what the future held in WWE, Cody and Brandi ventured into the unknown, preferring the uncertainty of precarious potential over a comfortable stagnation.
"They made an offer," Brandi said. "I said, 'Thank you so much. I really appreciate you wanting to keep me here. But it's just not in my heart. I'm not going to be able to do what I want to do here.' And he said, 'Well, this is what we're going to do. We're going to go ahead and pay you through the end of your contract. You'll see real quick that money is going to go fast.' They were trying to scare us. Thank God we didn't listen."
Less than a year after Dusty's death, his younger son had cut all ties with the only real wrestling promotion he'd ever know—the place where he'd grown into an adult, met his wife and made lifelong friendships. When Cody posted the news, along with a list of all the dream opponents he could now face on the independent scene, the wrestling internet exploded. He was ready.
"I'm a big organizer and planner," he said. "So I had been in [WWE wrestler] Kevin Owens' ear, like, 'Hey, what does the world look like? I've saved a chunk of my money and I bought a home and stuff, but I want to make sure I can keep it. What does it look like out there?'
"And Kevin was the one who said, 'I'll introduce you to The Young Bucks. They're the masters of having marketed themselves outside of the company.' Me and Brandi were totally fearless in that moment. It was crazy."
Becoming the Elite
Cody took Owens' advice and connected with The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, and through them Kenny Omega, who was building a reputation as the best wrestler in the world.
The Jackson brothers come from opposite circumstances as Cody—self-trained in their backyard on a trampoline and built, not with a famous name, but with a decade of grinding away at it until the audience couldn't help but embrace their passion and enthusiasm for wrestling.
"Cody likes to call us the extra-credit guys," Nick said. "It's really true that we had to do all the extra work to get popular and to get known."
The Jacksons convinced Cody to come to the promotion Ring of Honor for an extended run, scuttling his plans to be a nomad wandering the wrestling landscape like a character in the westerns his dad loved.
"It wasn't until after a few ROH shows that Matt asked me, 'Hey, do you want to ride with all the West Coast guys?' Which was him, Christopher Daniels, Frankie [Kazarian] and [Scorpio] Sky (the tag team trio SCU)," Cody said. "And in that minivan that they still ride in to this day was where all the fun wrestling stuff was happening."
The conversations were the cutting edge of wrestling, from "serious ROH stuff" to Being the Elite, the Young Bucks' viral YouTube show, which through hijinks like extended in-jokes and stunts like invading a WWE event has galvanized a fanbase looking for an alternative.
In the "Elite" stable of wrestlers, fans saw a reflection of themselves—like minds looking for an alternative to what WWE offered. And Cody saw a future.
"That's where I think they found my purpose in the group," he said. "My purpose in that group is as a promoter.
"We combine forces well. Kenny's a great bell-to-bell wrestler, Matt and Nick are tag team specialists, and they have this eye for the absurd and ludicrous. I bring my family's name value—not even my own: my family's name value—and my eye for the bigger picture."
Soon, events were getting so big and raucous that they had to hire security for simple meet-and-greets with the stable.
By September 2018, when Cody and the rest of what would become the AEW leadership team promoted the event All In, they didn't just sell out the Sears Centre Arena in suburban Chicago; they sold out the arena that holds more than 10,000 immediately. It was the proof of concept that solidified things, proved to Tony Khan that his instincts were correct, that wrestling fans were ready for something new.
"We had for two years straight a field test to see what worked with the audience and what didn't," Cody said. "And when we saw Buffalo, New York, was just as popular as San Jose, we were like, 'It's real. You know? It's not just Chicago. It's everywhere.' And we started to think about what might be possible."
At AEW's last big event, All Out in late August, Cody stood in the middle of the crowd and basked in their love, a sea of people who believed in him, who were on this journey with him and his partners, going wherever it led.
"We are in it together with our audience," Cody said. "And anyone who's like, 'Oh, let's see how they maintain their enthusiasm when you get to weekly TV.'  Well, guys, how many times are we going to move the goalposts?
"The argument that, 'Oh, that's not a real audience; it's just a small group of hardcore fans.' That's a dead argument at this point. It's a very real audience. And there's a lack of crossover between our fans and WWE's, which is my favorite part. We had a lady say to us at the Houston Airport, 'I'm one of the returners. I was watching in the late '90s, and now I'm watching again.' And I thought, what a great way to describe some of these folks coming into this. Returners."
It was, as Cody dubbed it, a revolution. Others called it a cult. Either way, the idea Cody is anything but a superstar is downright foolish with the power of hindsight.
At WWE, at some point talent is slotted into a position. Changing that perspective, altering your destiny, becomes almost impossible. And Cody had been trapped in a maze with no exit. Perhaps that's why at AEW's first live event, Double or Nothing, Cody smashed a throne, symbolizing his freedom from tyranny.
"It's very romantic, very like Game of Thrones-style with these warring houses," Cody said. "When I left WWE in 2015, I didn't think, like, 'I'm picking up that sword, we're going to war.' It's a wild, wild series of events. There were so many combustible pieces that led to all of this. You throw them together, and suddenly we are in a situation where I'm standing in front of the Turner Mansion with Brandi, in exactly the same spot Dusty took the team picture with WCW. And we're taking another team picture with a billionaire NFL owner who's a mega wrestling fan, ready to launch another national wrestling promotion. ...
"Had Vince listened to me when I really wanted to make the transition back to being Cody Rhodes, we wouldn't be sitting here. It's that fragile."
Page sees it as the inevitability of a force that can't be restrained.
"I remember Cody telling me when he was in high school, 'Next year I'm going to win. I'm going to win the state championship,'" Page said. "And I said, 'Really? That's a bold statement, boy.' I said, 'You know what that's going to take?' He said, 'Absolutely. You got to put the work in.' He went undefeated.
"Look at his weight belt today. It says, 'Do the work.' You never know what's going to happen because this is a startup company. But this is f--king unprecedented. But I know that if it fails, it won't be because there's not a work ethic put behind it. Why do these people care so much? Because he does. When they say 'All In,' they're not talking about money, bro. That's them telling the fans, 'F--king A, we're going for it."
The Future
Back in Atlanta, when Schiavone finally makes it through traffic and arrives, he's wearing a brand-new blazer Cody just overnighted so he won't look the same in every video and is ready to film a segment for Road to AEW on TNT in front of a giant green screen.
The same harried team, led by Steve Yu, that makes these gorgeous promotional pieces has been tasked with creating a video opener for TNT. Deadlines for everything loom, and amid the excitement, there is also a very real sense that one major misstep could be the domino that topples a carefully balanced workload.
It's unique chaos in a way, but it's familiar in a startup.
Cody's consiglieri, Michael "QT" Cuellari Marshall, is there to offer support in all areas, with students from his wrestling school filling in wherever needed. One day, they might be building the throne that Cody smashed at Double or Nothing. The next, they're feeding his dogs during a busy day. There are opportunities here, to find hidden talents you didn't know you had and to step into the breach and be a hero. Marshall himself is a prime example of how quickly you can become indispensable in a company with more tasks than hands.
"We get to All In, and the guy we had hired to be one of our main producers in the 'go' position got drunk the night before, or he used something, and he got arrested in front of the hotel," Cody said. "He literally started up his car and passed out with it in reverse. He hit another car in the parking lot and got arrested."
Marshall, sitting nearby with a laptop, creating a mock advertisement someone will later clean up and present to a potential partner, continues the story.
"My student sang the national anthem at All In, and I drove her there. I was there to hang out and watch an amazing show. But when they needed someone, I stepped up."
Marshall had previously done commentary for Ring of Honor, which prepared him for the opportunity. "I used it as an internship to see how you did wrestling on TV," he said.
The team is filled with people with similar stories, people who breathe wrestling like it's oxygen.
"Now QT is an associate producer, and he's Tony [Khan]'s favorite," Cody said. "He sits in the go position for every match and tells the director and producer what shots to look for.
"We have a lot of will it into existence at AEW. Some of these guys don't have any specific reason for being here, but the only way you really learn about wrestling is to be around it a bunch."
The result is beauty in diversity.
You can see it in the promotion's YouTube channel, the Bucks' wild 'do-it-yourself' brand existing side-by-side with Cody's polished "Road to..." series that often features serious interviews like you might see ahead of a big boxing match.
And you can see it in the ring. While a WWE show can sometimes feel like a group of performers walking in lockstep for three long hours, AEW provides fans with multiple visions of what wrestling might be on a single show. Joey Janela is there for those who love hardcore stunts, the Bucks and Omega for high-flying precision. Cody represents a modern version of wrestling's yesterdays, the blood-and-guts style of his father presented in a package built for a 2019 audience.
"I think people want us to choose," Cody said. "They encourage us to choose. It's like, 'Well, what's it going to be?' It's all of it. Luchasaurus is on the same show with Arn Anderson. I mean, that's wrestling. I'd rather people have a lot of options."
And he has them.
"It's not just Cody. He's got Nick, he's got friggin' Matt, he's got Kenny, who is a force in that world," Page said. "And now having Jericho and [Jon] Moxley, that's a f--king strong six. And you don't need a strong 28. You just need a handful of people the crowd really cares about."
Cody will be the one headlining the next pay-per-view, against Jericho.
It's a decision that has opened him up to online criticism that he's already using his authority to treat AEW as a vanity promotion, the same kind of vitriol his dad faced in some circles when he made himself the top star in WCW.
"I tell Tony, I tell Matt, Nick and Kenny every day almost, I'm like, 'Man, we need a home run every segment.' Because there's a microscope on top of a microscope on what we're doing," Cody said. "When people are like, 'He's doing the same thing Dusty did.' I always want to say, 'Yeah, well Dusty was one of the most over guys on the show.'
"I could only hope to do what Dusty did."
AEW has four wrestlers in executive roles, both for their expertise and to keep each other honest. Khan, ultimately, will have the final say and settle any disputes. The key, Rhodes says, will be self-awareness and a keen understanding of the audience.
"All of us want to be in the main event. But if you're not, you're not. It's a nice checks and balances we have with Matt, Nick, Kenny and myself. There's three guys who are going to tell you, 'Hey, I don't think it's as big as you think.' Or, 'Let's move on this. MJF is becoming a megastar, let's go this direction.'
"An old-timer wrestler will tell you, 'Hey, we lead them,' and that is not entirely incorrect. We do lead them because we present the product to them. But if they drastically want something different, it is OK to let them lead us as well. And I don't think we're afraid to let them lead a little bit. If the other company had been more aware, even 25 percent more aware, we would not be in the position or even have this opportunity."
It all comes back, as it eventually always does in wrestling, to WWE. The question, a simple one, has remained the same since McMahon expanded nationally decades ago. Can big-time wrestling exist beyond WWE's ever-expanding universe?
For the first time since WCW folded, an organization will truly try to answer it—all because one man refused to be just a gear in the machine.
"They're going to make mistakes, and they'll learn from them. They already have, you know. It's a process," Page said. "They got the hardcore fans. Now it's how does that work to pull over to the casual viewer or the WWE fan who doesn't really know they exist. But there's a lot of wrestling fans who never flipped over after WCW died. They just stopped watching. That's the fan they need.
"This is a David vs. Goliath story. And if that can get brought across to the people well—David versus Goliath always works."

Dear Hollywood Foreign Press Association,
Today you embark on the first step of the sacred awards season journey, as you sort through the thousands of submissions sent in by hopefuls in the movie and TV industry. With that in mind, please allow me to offer a humble plea for an actor whose work this year in two vastly different projects deserves your special attention: Mr. Cody Fern.
The Golden Globes have a long history of recognizing young talent on the cusp of stardom: Past winners include an out-of-nowhere ingenue named Calista Flockhart for Ally McBeal in 1997; J.J. Abrams protégés Keri Russell (Felicity) in 1998 and Jennifer Garner (Alias) in 2001; and more recently TV’s future-is-female poster women Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Rachel Boom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) in 2014 and 2015, respectively. And in 2018, no actor displayed more household-name potential than Fern. Viewers can currently enjoy his work on American Horror Story and the final season of House of Cards, but the 30-year-old Australian kicked off the year with a devastating performance in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
Fern costarred in Versace as David Madson, a successful architect in Minneapolis who became serial killer Andrew Cunanan’s second victim. While the Ryan Murphy-produced limited series earned 18 Emmy nominations and seven wins — including outstanding Limited Series and Outstanding Lead Actor for Darren Criss, who killed it as Cunanan — the Television Academy failed to recognize Fern.
This, ladies and gentlemen of the HFPA, cannot stand.
By all accounts, David Madson was an exceptionally charismatic, affable young man, and Fern brought him to life with a captivating ease. His performance displayed remarkable range, as David falls in love with Andrew, then becomes increasingly suspicious of his extravagant lies. But really, if you watch one episode of Versace, make it “House By the Lake,” in which Andrew forces David go to on the run with him after killing their mutual friend Jeff Trail (Finn Whitrock). Fern’s performance over the course of that 44 minutes — as David grapples with terror, resentment, dread, and the awful realization that he’ll never escape Andrew alive — is nothing short of astonishing. Hell, if you don’t have time to watch the whole episode, just fast-forward to the 50-minute mark, when a trembling David pleads for his life — and be sure to set aside the next 30 minutes to recover.
When it comes to the Golden Globes’ Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category, the only performance that comes close to the worthiness of Cody Fern’s work in Versace is… Cody Fern’s work in American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Six months after his spectacular debut in Versace, Fern returned to the Ryan Murphyverse as Michael Langdon, an impetuous, bewildered young man who just happens to be the son of Satan. From his grand entrance — that cape! that wig! that blood-red silk scarf! — to the prostitute-murdering parlor trick this past week, Fern is sensationally entertaining, without sacrificing the scares and gentle sweetness (!) his character requires.
As the voters consider which five actors deserve to hear their names announced with the Golden Globe nominations on December 6, I hope they will remember that only one performer in 2018 transitioned seamlessly from “All-American kid whose death will break your heart” to “cape-wearing Antichrist who will literally eat your heart.” Esteemed members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, I give you Cody Fern.

TF2 OC fic - The End (Cody and Hibana)
As of now, Cody and Hibana are no longer in a relationship in Cody’s storylines, and this is for closure to that past.
It was sudden. It was terrifying. It was painful, filled with agony.
Cody had decided to do a check on the paths things were going on, and the way he was shown hurt him more than any attack and torture session had ever done. The tears that had automatically welled up in his eyes fell as he saw the events that unfolded. He heard his own spine chilling screams and sobs as he writhed on the ground, losing himself in his agony and begging frantically as Hibana walked away, tears streaming down his own face as he refused to turn back around.  As quick as the vision was there, it was gone. Cody cried to himself for a while as he processed this.
Hibana won't be by my side anymore, he's gonna fucking leave... We... have to break up... I DON'T WANT THIS! Cody screamed out in his head, only able to let out overwhelmed growls and sobs outwardly.
Later that day, Cody had finally come out of his room. He had long stopped crying, but the signs of it were still extremely obvious on his face; his eyeswere  puffy and darker, his nose was entirely red. Francis looked over at Cody, his expression changing to one of shock and extreme worry as he hurried over to Cody and put his hands on Cody's shoulders.
"Cody, what's wrong?!"
"...I don't wanna talk about it."
"What's. Wrong." Francis' tone was more serious now, refusing to back off until Cody told him what was bothering him.
Cody only began to cry again in response. He allowed Francis to pull him in for a hug, hugging back tightly and sobbing into Francis' shirt. Francis whispered assurances to him, swaying back and forth slightly in a steady rhythm to try and help calm Cody down. It helped for the most part, only small sniffles and hiccups came from the other man now in terms of the more audible noises. Cody had finally gathered enough composure to attempt to tell what had happened. He spoke of his vision, Francis feeling the sadness and heartbreak coming from Cody before he even spoke, but now it was intense enough that Francis himself had to try and hold back tears. He discussed it a while longer with Cody, both letting it all out and calming down enough to begin accepting this fate.
Now, Cody just needed to break it off before Hibana did, to prevent such a traumatizing future he saw in that vision.
Hibana knocked on the door hesitantly a few hours later. He was scared. He was sad. But, he had to do this. He hated leaving Cody, but he hated leading Cody on after all Cody has done for him even more. His growing anxiety about if they would work or not finally got to him, and eventually his feelings had faded away. Cody was still the best friend he ever had, but at this point, that's all Cody was. He felt the anxiety knot in his gut tighten up to the point of making him want to vomit when Cody answered the door. Cody was oddly silent, an odd look in his near black eyes as he smiled sadly up at Hibana. He felt the fear course through him at seeing Cody's eyes paired with that smile. He knew something was off with Cody from the start. His eyes were never that dark and empty unless he was getting into a state of obsession, or he was about to snap if he hadn't already.
"Hey." Cody's voice was a near whisper. "I uh... have something important to tell you too. Come on in and let's go sit on the couch."
Hibana gulped and nodded, slowly following Cody over to the sofa to sit down. He questioned why Cody wasn't sitting near him in his head, but stayed quiet until they both gathered themselves.
"Cody, I... I need to tell you something that's been on my mind lately, but I haven't had the courage to until now. It's extremely important and I wanted to be upfront with you about it."
"I know Hibana, and it's okay."
Hibana looked over at Cody in shock. Cody had been staring straight ahead, though not really focused on anything, until he slowly turned his head and looked back at Hibana with a slight tilt of his head and that smile he had before, though his eyes were completely black now and completely void of any color or emotion. A broken void projected through them.
"I saw it earlier today," Cody's tone was a little closer to normal volume now, but still as soft and tiny in tone, "I had seen the original outcome of our break up. It wasn't pretty, and was destined to traumatize me for good if I didn't act to change it. It's meant to happen no matter how much I hate it and don't EVER want to leave you, so I decided to just cry out all I could with Francis for a few hours and just accept it and work on mourning the loss of our relationship. I was originally going to be the one to break it off with you before you did me in hopes I could avoid the future I saw, but this will also suffice."
Hibana kept his eyes on Cody the whole time, even though Cody had blanked out again and resumed gazing straight ahead at nothing in particular as he spoke.
"I love you too much to EVER get over you. I know I more than likely never will, and probably will never fully let go of everything we've ever done together in the past either, but my love and respect for you is strong enough to not allow a break up get in the way of us. I'm more than happy to still be friends, and I refuse to let my romantic love for you get in the way. I'm happy with whatever I can get from you, and I refuse to do anything to ever mess that up. You may be the man I want to marry and spend the rest of this life with, but you're also my best friend. I hope you feel the same, and want to continue being my best friend too."
Cody looked back at Hibana to show he was finished, eyes widening slightly at how visible the trembling of Hibana's hands were in his lap, and the twitches of his eyes and lips as he fought back tears. A tear ran down Cody's own face seeing that, but he refused to move from his spot to hug Hibana, or touch him at all. He waited for Hibana to gather himself and listened fully when Hibana spoke to him.
"I-I'd like that. I still want to be friends with you too, yeah. I'm so sorry, Cody... I let myself get too lost in my pain and worries and look where it's gotten us..."
Hibana cried quietly to himself, resisting the urge to let everything out when he saw Cody crying with him, but saying nothing and only continuing to watch him and wait patiently for him to say all he wanted to say.
"Cody, why aren't you doing anything?" Hibana couldn't bring his voice to raise more than a shaking whine. "Why aren't you trying to hug me or anything? Or at least patting me on the arm or shoulder or something! Why aren't you doing it?!"
Cody shook his head, refusing to budge.
"I'm not going to dare to do anything like that anymore until I know for sure you truly don't mind, and we establish our new limited boundaries. You can say you don't mind it now and genuinely mean it, but I still won't do it. You're in a moment of weakness right now, and I won't be doing anything to potentially complicate things."
Hibana wanted to cry harder at how serious and calm Cody had gotten all of a sudden. He hated this. He wished it hadn't come to this. He wanted to hold on longer in hopes his feelings would come back, but there was no getting out of it now.
"Hibana, since we've established the most important things, I think it might be best I give you some space. At least for a few days. We both need to kind of regroup and mourn the losses of the relationship and move on from there."
Was Cody asking him to leave? He didn't want to leave! He was fully expecting Cody to try and talk it out with him and try to mend things, he never expected Cody would be so quick to respect his words and accept it! He wanted Cody to bring him back!
He opened his mouth to protest, but Cody raised a hand up and shook his head to keep Hibana silenced.
"It's for the best, Hibana." Cody said through a mind link that only they could hear now, "I won't allow you to stay with me if you don't love me anymore. Though I will say, if you ever change your mind and your feelings return, I'll welcome you back with open arms to try one last time, okay?"
He hesitated, but nodded before standing to walk to the door, Cody following suit. Hibana looked nervously to the side for a moment before slowly holding his arms open, giving Cody a hopeful look.
"Please. Just one more."
He sighed, but agreed, and walked over to Hibana to allow him to wrap his arms tightly around the smaller man. The sadness was sharp in Hibana's heart when Cody didn't fully return the gesture, only holding his arms close to himself and leaning up against Hibana like he did with everyone else he allowed a quick hug from on a rare occasion. He could feel how tense Cody was. He suddenly understood exactly how Francis feels every time he goes to hug Cody, and swore in his mind to never once try to get Francis to back off again. This obvious tenseness and wanting it to be over felt like agony, and it felt like a necessity to try and get Cody to hug back regularly and full of love again. Cody pulled away as Hibana's thoughts began to wander more about this, feeling how much more upset the other man was getting.
"I think it's best you go now before you get too worked up, okay? At least give it three days before coming back. Please, Hibana, you need to try and regroup too."
He nodded and sniffled, wiping his eyes as tears began to fall again.
"I know, Cody. Thank you for being so understanding. I can't explain how scared I was to tell you, but the fact that you're willing to still be friends too like we've always been makes me happy. I'll try my hardest to wait three days. But before I go, do you want me to get rid of anything you've given me while we were together?"
Cody shook his head, saying Hibana could if he wanted to, but it wasn't necessary. Hibana said the same to Cody, and both finally said their goodbyes. Hibana slowly walked out the door, Francis walking in the moment he heard the door close. He and Cody couldn't hold back the sadness in their expressions when they heard loud sobbing begin outside, gradually getting quieter as Hibana left.
"Cody... I'm so sorry... You two were so perfect together, I wish it didn't have to come to this." Francis sighed and pulled Cody close with one arm.
"It's all good Francis," Cody replied, his tone still soft but mostly normal again, "we're still friends, and that's what matters. I refuse to let anything get in between us, even a romantic relationship."
Francis smiled and hugged Cody, who returned it fully. This would be extremely difficult to adjust to, but Cody would endure. He's endured far more than this and survived going strong, he won't let this take him out so easily.

CONGRATULATIONS, ROMAN! — You’ve been accepted for the role of Xenophilius Lovegood, with a face claim change to Cody Fern. I was a little worried people would struggle with the vagueness of Xeno’s affliction and how he’s been affected since he was attacked during school, but you wrote it beautifully. I also really enjoyed reading your head canons about his relationship with Pandora, and everything else about Xeno. You really brought his character to life outside of the bio, which is exactly what I’m looking for in an application.
Thank you so much for applying. Please create your account and send in the link, track the right tags, and follow everyone on the follow list. Welcome to Hollowed Souls!
ooc.
name: Roman
age: 26
preferred pronouns: they/them
timezone: EST
activity: medium to high; I’m around to answer messages and plot every day, and am usually able to do at least some replies every other day or so depending on how work is going!
are you applying for more than one character?: not at this time!
how do you feel about your character dying?: I would be comfortable with it as long as it’s discussed and I’d have a chance to pick up another character! The possibility of the death is cool to think about; having a grand ending would be satisfying, especially if it was something that was a long time coming, and contributed to the plot in a big way, which I feel it actually could with Xeno. I’m a sucker for a good slow burn with some angst!
anything else?: (questions, concerns, etc.) I did some assuming on some bits about Pandora and Xeno’s relationship that I’m definitely open to changing or revising if accepted! Also, this has nothing to do with the app, but if missing characters make an appearance later on, I would love to express my enthusiastic interest in seeing Ted Tonks!! I wrote Ted in Port Montrose and I’d LOVE to see what he’s like in this other beautiful AU!!!

full name: Xenophilius Prometheus Lovegood
Xenophilius: from the Greek xenos and philia, respectively meaning strange and love; together, the love of the strange. Klaus and Else Lovegood were never going to choose an average sort of name for their child. Believing in many old practices of the wixen world, upon learning they were pregnant, they sought out a Naming Seer to learn the future of their child, and, therefore, what sort of moniker they would fit. They used what little of their savings they had left from the move for the appointment, as it was an important tradition in Else’s family. The Naming Seer projected a strange life for the child, full of wonder and mysticism, a longing for knowledge and a mind open to the belief of the other that most would reject easily. The Naming Seer suggested Edmund, for the prosperity they saw the child could achieve if encouraged, through academic success. The two laughed, thanked them, and left to do their own research. They came across the word xenophile in one of their very old muggle books about cultures of the world and knew immediately that was the name for their child. If they were going to have an open mind, their name was going to let all who heard it know so.
Prometheus: Greek mythological figure, a titan known for creating man from clay, as well as stealing fire from the gods and gifting it to humanity, starting civilization. Xeno’s parents made this choice very soon after landing on his first name. Klaus had a certain fascination with mythology, and what better than to give her child a name to encourage intelligence and creation at any cost?
Lovegood: As it sounds, a combination of the two English words love and good. This was a surname of the Lovegoods’ own creation upon their immigration to the United Kingdom during the muggle’s World War II. They had no shame in their former surnames, but wanted a blank slate to start over with good fortune. They settled on something to show the simple and true quality of their affections, that their intentions, while some might find them strange, were always good.
date of birth: January 20, 1952
Capricorn-Aquarius cusp
The definition of this contrasting cusp, Xeno is a combination of both signs, hardworking and idealistic, with the ability to view the world in strange ways that few others can, and the intention of opening the minds of those around them. The mind is constantly working, creating brilliant, exciting thoughts and ideas, but the constant flow at times makes him come off as distant or uninterested in the ordinary people and things around him. Speaking with someone born on this cusp can be jarring and intimidating, although intriguing, always prepared to discuss the most outlandish of concepts, but rarely able to stop and process the more mundane, often times forgetting about thinking of what others are feeling.
former hogwarts house: Ravenclaw
There was a brief debate, as Xenophilius approached his eleventh birthday, of whether it would be best to send him to Durmstrang, as that was where both Else and Klaus went, and consequently met each other, but that thought was quickly silenced with a visit from Dumbledore himself, offering a place at Hogwarts for the young prodigy. Xeno researched the schools obsessively during the months this debate was going on, and insisted that he had to be at Hogwarts, because he was clearly a Ravenclaw student. Upon his entrance, the hat barely touched his little blonde head before shouting just that, a self-satisfied grin on the child’s face as he joined his new classmates.
sexuality: demisexual panromantic
For all of his youth, he was much too preoccupied with researching anything that was able to hold his attention for longer than a few minutes to worry about things such as dating and sex. People are not what he truly cares about, as harsh as that sounds, and it takes a great deal for him to feel that sort of attraction to someone. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he is fairly certain part of it has to do with what he saw his parents go through as a child. He can’t remember them ever truly seeming to love each other, despite the stories of their own youths they told him. All he remembers is the shouting and the pain they caused each other, all because of the most mundane problems, as if they had forgotten who they truly were once they had a family. That made him wary of that sort of very human connection, not wanting to lose himself more than he already had. Until things changed, of course…
gender/pronouns: agender + any pronouns (primarily he/him & they/them)
He has no great attachment to any gender at large, and therefore feels the label of something closer to nothing, defying any sort of binary or spectrum, fits him better than anything else could. His being feels unexplainable and it’s something he accepted from an early age. As such, though, he doesn’t truly care what anyone calls him. In fact, a lot of the time he’d rather people just wouldn’t refer to him at all, but that has very little to do with gender.
face claim change: Cody Fern, Jason Ralph, Boyd Holbrook  (If for some reason, Cody Fern isn’t approved anymore and I get accepted, I’d love to brainstorm other alternatives with you before settling on one, as Cody is very much how I envision Xeno!)
more.
1. how do you interpret this character’s personality? how will you play them? include two weaknesses & two strengths.
+ determined, idealistic, brilliant
- aloof, selfish, erratic
Perhaps if life had treated him differently, Xenophilius would be considered one of the greatest minds of his time already. If life had not beaten him into the furthest recess of his mind from the moment he was old enough to understand and question what was going on around him, perhaps that person could have existed, already fully formed, by the ripe age of thirty. But life was not so kind, and even now he can say with certainty that it comes as no real surprise, having studied so much of the world obsessively, researching what he can get his hands on of every possibility that the human mind can dream up to understand the world at large.
At an early age, he retreated into his mind as a form of coping with the outside world, even as the thunderous voices, first of his parents, then of the bullies and naysayers at school, then of everyone, tried to infiltrate his thoughts. Single-minded to the core, focused and determined to solve any question proposed, any long lost mystery left unsolved, it is still so easy for him to fall into weeks at a time of researching furiously, even disappearing for days at a time on his quests for knowledge, once an idea comes to him. Because of this, he was never quite as adept as interpersonal relationships as he might’ve been otherwise, and this only worsened after his accident, when the sounds of the voices became nearly deafening in his mind.
He would much rather spend his time researching whatever concept has caught his interest than interact with his peers, causing him to come off as distant and aloof to many. When he does deign to talk to others for an extended period of time, though, his brilliance does become clear, although so does his erraticism. Enchanted with long lost mysteries, and ideas thought only to be legend and rumor, his speech rambles and raves through dozens of topics by the you’ve caught up with the first. If landing on something he truly does care about, he could speak for hours with supreme eloquence on the matter, although what he cares about and believes in rarely lines up with those around him, and thus is often dismissed as nonsense. He believes wholeheartedly, after all, that consciousness creates and therefore nothing the human mind is able to dream up should be ruled as wholly impossible.
People have always been cruel to him, and he has long ago accepted this as a fact of his life, even if he does do his best to spread good in the form of knowledge. When faced with the negativity, the cruelty, he used to do anything he could to defend himself, including the less refined solutions. He still possesses very little respect for traditional authority, but some of his light, some of the mischief has left him in the years since the fight that left him as he is. Now, it is often times easier to accept that others’ minds aren’t nearly as expanded as his, and they do not wish to be, than to try to argue his correctness. An unwilling audience will not learn, no matter how brilliant of a teacher he might be.
Do not mistake that for him thinking the worst of the world, though. Despite it all, he truly does believe in good, and hopes that one day he can bring the hope that he does feel to others as well by expanding their minds beyond the limitations of the mundane. But he’s convinced himself that he won’t be able to do so as he is now, broken and bent, a shadow of what he could be if not plagued with such a curse.
2. how has the war affected this character, emotionally and otherwise?
Upon waking up in the hospital wing all of those years ago, his mind had become a much darker place. The war was never his, never will be, at least fully, thanks in part to his own blood status, but mostly because of how he feels. It took a long, long time until he realized, truly, what was going on, and then it was only thanks to Pandora that he began to grasp the reality, the gravity of the situation surrounding them.
In the beginning, with only whispers and quiet fights taking place as two sides divided over beliefs, he was unaware, too completely wrapped up in his own quests to set them aside and worry about another battle to fight. After all, in the beginning, he was utterly devoted to finding his own cure, whatever it might take. In a way, Xeno’s selfishness kept him blinded to what was happening, or how he might’ve helped for far longer than it should have.
But then he truly met Pandora, and he fell in love as quickly as he had fallen in love with the pursuit of knowledge to calm his mind. Even without a cure, being with her cleared some of the noise, and he could begin to understand the gravity of what was going on around him. He saw how much the carnage of the war hurt her, saw how deeply and thoroughly she cared for all of these people she didn’t even know, and that is what made him begin thinking more deeply on things.
That is when it began to hurt.
The voices seemed only to grow in volume, overlapping each other, begging for his attention at every turn as he watched his wife become more and more entrenched in a fight that should not have been happening in the first place, in his mind. As the war ragged on, and things grew worse, so did his affliction, as if whatever it was that had caused this was somehow tied to the war itself. That explanation made it feel easier, for him, anyway, even if it made everyone believe he was that much further gone, tying himself to something of such importance.
He retreated further and further into himself, his research falling by the wayside, only Pandora allowed into the true depths of his madness, witnesses the oftentimes nonsensical spurts of morbid inspiration burst from the voices of war in his mind. Among it all, there was, and still is, the underlying desire to do what his wife does, to be able to care so deeply about so many others, but his mind makes it so difficult. He cares about Pandora’s safety above all others’, and those she loves, too, now, but widely is still more concerned about the personal matters first. Still, he tries to help her when he can, would do anything in the world for her if it meant she was happy and at peace, just as she tries to do for him. And perhaps, once he finds his cure, he can do the same for others.
But how could he help now, after all, when he’s so far from whole himself?
3. Where does this character currently stand? with those who wish to hide in godric’s hollow until the war ends, with those who wish to rebuild the order and continue fighting the war, or on neither side? why?
This, all of this, it was not a choice of his own.
He could feel Pandora’s desire to fight, even before the question of what came next was out in the world. And just as it came, so did offer of retreat, of refuge. It was never an offer they could have passed up, no matter how it was spun. Pandora wished to help, to do what she could for those suffering, and prevent any more death from blooming in their midst, and he has always wanted what she wants. His own involvement with the Order had been selfish from the start, anyway, and it was clear that retreating with the Order held the most potential for the expansion of knowledge, the potential of finding a cure, even after all of these years, or even just finding a moment of peace. Just as it was clear that the longer they spent out in the world, amongst the hatred and violence, the worse his condition became, descending further and further from reason.
And so it was not a choice in the first place, and now, here they are, without much choice again.
Stuck in a village full of the memory of death, without a say.
With no personal attachment to the war, and as only an affiliate of the Order, it is hard for him to form a true feeling on what is right for all of them. He has very little desire to stay here for an extended period of time, feels trapped and static without access to the world at large for his research, but the thought of rebuilding to fight is one he’s not certain of either, when the war was never his to start and he feels in no way ready to truly help yet.
When it comes down to it, he would do whatever it is that Pandora believes is for the best for both of them, trusting her more than anyone else in the world, especially as the voices become clearer and he feels himself slipping from sense, even if that meant staying until the war ends.
But he doesn’t feel good here.
It stinks of death, of vile hatred, of curses perhaps even worse than his own. And for the first time, he’s afraid.
It’s strange, in a way, that he hasn’t felt fear like this before, after the countless fights, after waking up and learning he was missing weeks of his life, after being changed beyond his own will because of some sinister magic. Not once before has he felt this fear, but it’s settled square between his shoulders now, twisting a terrible knot of tension, keeping him from finding any true peace here. He’s convinced there’s something here that he’s been searching for. But now that he’s closer, he’s terrified of what he might find, that the answer might be there will never be a cure. That maybe he is mad after all.
4. The voices in Xenophilius’ head have only gotten louder since the war began. How are they now that he’s in Godric’s Hollow? Has anything he heard made sense, or is it just a bunch of gibberish?
There were always voices in his mind, although he had never truly considered them anything to worry about until after the that fateful night when they changed. There were always whispers of unknown sources helping him along with his research, encouraging him to expand his thinking, search out new creatures and potions. Those voices helped create new spells, craft potions no one had dreamt up before, study beasts only thought of in fairy tales.
They’re different now, though, darker, jumbled. It’s rarer that there’s anything clear, so many different voices speaking at once, constantly, but when there is, it’s not as it was, inspiring thoughts and breakthroughs. And they’re all familiar; sometimes he’ll hear his parents, sometimes he’ll hear old schoolmates, Order members.
When he became truly aware of the war, something changed. The voices seemed louder, more persistent, as if determined to hold his attention because of what was going on in the world.
Coming to here, Xeno believed that perhaps being in a place of peace would change that, that it may quiet some of the voices, take the constant dull roar down to a whisper once again, allow him to feel more like himself, allow him to focus on searching for a cure. He was wrong, though.
The voices changed upon his entrance into Godric’s Hollow.
There’s something new there, in the corner of his mind, hidden amongst all of the confusion, the hundreds of voices mixed floating around his mind. It used to be so rare to have a moment of clarity, the voices only working to a crescendo so often. It happens often now, one thought or another winning out, coming to the forefront of his mind in complete clarity and bursting forth into a shock of inspiration.
These bursts of inspiration feel almost close to violent since coming to Godric’s Hollow, taking him over completely, frenzied. He finds himself scribbling in notebook upon notebook madly, frantically flipping through pages of the books they’d brought to their tent from home, muttering to himself as if he may lose the thread of inspiration if he cannot get it out into the world fast enough. It’s exhausting, feeling so much, feeling so out of his own control at times, and he’s certain it has to do with this place.
When they calm again, when he stops from exhaustion, quill drooping in hand, and glances at the pages and pages, it scares him even more. Rarely, now, does what he writes seem to be related to his own research. It seems to be what these voices want, the thoughts made concrete.
He hears them saying names, names of those lost, those gone forever. Hears them telling him to go, then another telling him he must stay, that he is oh, so close to what he needs. He tries his hardest to keep going, but it gets so hard when in the din of voices something so clear rings out, something that seems to mean more.
The most terrifying thing was the first moment he heard Pandora’s voice in his mind, clear as day, the familiar wavering whisper as beautiful as a bird’s song to his ears, one of the first days they had come to Godric’s Hollow. She told him to stay. It shook him to his core, but he hasn’t heard her since, hopes he doesn’t. He hates the thought of his curse touching the most pure thing in his life.
So Xenophilius searches for what they’re trying to lead him to, hoping it is what he needs, that the cure might be at his fingertips, if only he opens his eyes.

on pandora:
He knew. The moment she first treated him in Mungo’s, he knew that he would follow her to the ends of the earth, if she would allow him. It was a strange feeling, not entirely a pleasant one when considering that all his life he had expected never to feel that way about another human being. He wonders how he had missed her at Hogwarts, but then, he had been so entangled in himself, so focused on collecting all the knowledge that he could, that he had hardly made any friends in his own house and year, yet alone others. What mattered is that he had found her now, just in time to keep him from giving up.
After truly meeting Pandora, his single-minded obsession became learning to sign as quickly and proficiently as he could. He wasn’t as fast as he wished he would’ve been, but he learned as best he could, and kept going back to Mungo’s as he learned, an excuse to see her again and talk to her more, especially as he realized that the other healers believed him mad.
She was the first person who truly believed him when he insisted it was the boys’ attack with the dark objects that had caused this, and not a dormant mental illness whose symptoms only appeared after the event. As such, his trust and belief in her was enormous from the beginning, and has not once faltered in the years since.
One of the initial reasons he was so attracted to her was for her pure dedication to a singular cause and the pursuit of knowledge, something he believes in himself. He could see how passionate she was about healing, and how willing she was to do anything to help her patients, not limited to the confines of average healing. He admires her determination and creativity greatly.
The way she cares for people stands in stark contrast to his own ability to do so, which is another reason he loves her so much. He can hardly imagine being so open in caring about others, but he likes to think that she has helped him grow in that regard even slightly. He hopes that she’ll help him grow in that even more, once they’ve found a cure.
If it were not for Pandora, Xeno wholeheartedly believes he would have given up hope of finding a cure, or even peace, years ago. She was able to show him the light in the darkness, and she continues to be that beam of sunlight coming through the clouds of a storm with each passing moment, reminding him that there’s always reason for hope left.
The only times he finds even brief moments of something close to silence is with her. Lying in bed together as they both try to drift into troubled sleep, listening to the steady sound of her breathing, feeling her heat pressed against his, it’s nearly enough to calm the war constantly raging in his mind.
His proposal to her was neither truly romantic or at all dramatic, instead a sort of passing question in the midst of the ever rambling road of his words, his fingers moving just as fast as his lips could, by that time. A question phrased in a way that made it seem more for practicality than it truly was, because he does love her, more greatly than he thought he could ever love one person. A simple it would be easier if we were married, and then the nonchalant production of a ring from his pocket, set on the table in front of her. An amethyst and celestite woven together within a bronze band, charmed to emit a sense of pease and focus, as well as ward off Wrackspurts.
details:
His parents met at Durmstang, and then moved to Berlin, Germany after graduating, working as researchers, of sorts, for a company of like-minded wizards interested in what many would call nontraditional magic. When things began to fall apart in the non-magical world, they made the decision to move to start a family of their own in safety. They settled in London, using up most of their savings to make it there and rent a small flat in Camden.
Despite being a pureblood, Xeno holds none of the beliefs of British pureblood society, in part thanks to be raised by non-British purebloods, but mostly because he can hardly fathom how it is possible to see other humans so darkly. He appreciates what muggles have accomplished without magic, and has even studied much of muggle science and technology out of interest, as well as being interested in proving for them the existence of several of their so-called cryptids.
He has never been able to hold a full time job for long, and stopped trying to do so after years spent in his early twenties trying unsuccessfully in various fields that didn’t truly keep his interest anyway. He would miss days of work without mentioning it, was perpetually late, and rarely actually helped customers with what they actually wanted when in customer service fields. Instead, he earned his money by penning essays and articles sold to various magazines and newspapers on his strange beliefs, as well as selling his research to those who would benefit from it. He dreams of starting his own magazine, if things ever return to normal, if heever finds a cure for his affliction, but right now that task feels impossible given how full his mind is.
He’s started a small garden of strange flora for his and Pandora’s use in Godric’s Hollow. Not much of it is useful to the more ordinary needs of the residents, unless they believe in the oftentimes wild properties Xeno attributes to many of the plants, but he and his wife use many of them for potions and infusions of their own needs, and gladly share if anyone has a desire.
Xenophilius is unable to produce a corporeal Patronus at this time, and has not been able to since waking up in the hospital wing those years ago. Before that, though, his Patronus was an eagle owl.
He didn’t actually seek any healing for what the other students had done to him outside of his own attempts at healing until he was well out of school. As confident as ever, he believed that he could find a cure and do so by himself. When it started interfering not only with his life, but his work, though, he sought out help at Mungo’s. Although most of the healers believed he had gone insane, and most people still do, it was the best decision he made, as it lead him to Pandora.
He hasn’t had any contact with his parents since he graduated from Hogwarts and isn’t certain where they are now, or even if they’re still living. It isn’t that he doesn’t love them, but the childhood that they gave him took too much from him even as they fought to offer him opportunity. He still hears their voices amongst all the others, hears them arguing, only now the anger feels directed at him, not each other.
As well as now being fluent in sign language, Xeno also speaks fluent German, although most of what comes to mind easily now has to do with the cursing that his parents used to do at each other during his childhood.
Not concerned with outward appearances, Xeno very often looks like he rolled directly out of bed and walked into public. While that isn’t usually the case, he could not care less if anyone thinks it is. If he owns a brush for his hair, it has long ago been lost, and many of his clothes are either entirely inappropriate for the occasion at hand, or completely mismatched. There is a method to some of what he wears, of course; the necklaces he always wears, one with a butterbeer cork dangling from it, the other with the symbol of the Deathly Hallows.

Uuuhhhh sanders sides mental hospital au with a bunch of cliches that literally no one asked for but it's also a soulmate au????
uhh warnings for disorder talk, suicide mention, swearing?
Polyamsanders mostly
Main story line?
When Virgil was a kid his parents were nice and all, but they did punish him for seemingly random things
They had him do chores a very specific way and if it wasn't done that way, he had to do it again and again to make sure it was proper
It resulted in him having a very high anxiety disorder, both socially and in general
He found he couldn't talk to a lot of people afraid to mess up, and over thinking how he messed up
Especially when it came to his soulmates
Had never written to them, refused to look at their notes, didn't think he would be able to keep them with how he is
Does not do well in messy environments, not necessarily OCD, but close
When he managed to move out his anxiety left his home foodless, and he couldn't talk to get food, so he went hungry
Ended up a cycle and punishment system for himself
Can't talk so can't eat, couldn't talk don't deserve to eat
Someone found him passed out in the laundry room of his apartment complex
Doctors found him extremely malnourished and unable to communicate, so they sent him to the mental hospital to get better
Virgil had the absolute worst time adjusting, had multiple panic attacks every day for like a week straight
He wouldn't talk to anyone and could barely be forced out of bed to join group sessions or meal times
Barely ate anything and almost passed out again
After two weeks of straight up anxiety and no food exhaustion, he finally got tired enough to actually talk to his therapist
Dr Picani is wonderful, says things light hearted and never tries to pry. The kind of therapist to make a small joke or reference to make sure his clients aren't having huge breakdowns
Virgil does open up to him, they decide to tackle the anorexia first
It's difficult to convince Virgil he’s worthy of eating and that food should never under any circumstances be used negatively
But they manages to get him to at least eat something and that's a start
The first time Picani asks about virgil’s soulmate, Virgil has a panic attack
And every time after as well
Come to find out the word 'soulmate' is triggering to him
Sudden flashes of hunger pains and a blinding feeling he's not worth it
They start using the word heartbound
Virgil starts trying to hang out and talk to some of the other residents
Has a panic attack before he can say hi, but the others walk him back to his room and invite him to hang out later
He does, and its good for his recovery
It takes some time to get virgil proper anxiety medication, his body rejects the first two, throwing up and feeling too tired
Virgil wants to stop feeling helpless and so scared all the time, wants to start getting better
They get him on a small dose of one kind, and it works for a while
Picani convinces Virgil that even if he wants to get better on his own, his heartbounds deserve to know he exists, that Virgil shouldn't be afraid to do so
So Virgil does, with overwhelming support from people he doesn't know
He doesn't talk to them, but he no longer hides their notes from himself
Visiting/progress update day is coming up, and with Picani there to tell him it's okay, Virgil writes the address of the hospital asking them to come
He gets confirmation and is able to calm himself out of an attack before it can really start
It's a good day
They carefully raise his dosage till he can be more personable, more himself
He's shaking visiting day, a message on his arm that his heartbounds will be wearing black, blue, and red respectively
So when three people walk in, one in a black button up with the sleeves rolled up to their elbows, another in a blue tee with a design on it that looks like it could be a grandma sweater, and another in a red shirt with white sleeves and heeled boots, Virgil almost faints
There's a lot going for him and it's hard to handle
So the one in the blue sweater is the first to notice Virgil staring bugeyed at them and just knows
So they all go over to him and Virgil stands in a daze and just falls into their arms, clinging to each of them with all he has
They whisper words of encouragement and love and someone is kissing his head and hands and gosh there's a lot going on
The actual session is good, Picani tells virgil’s heartbounds his progress (eating more, anxiety medication getting to the right spot, self confidence boosted) and they are so happy and proud!!!!
Almost a panic attack when they mention 'soulmate', Virgil manages to coax himself out of it while Picani carefully explains triggers
It's a tearful and loving goodbye and Virgil is sure he might just explode because his mind had thought about this moment before and it's never been this good and this is real and oh god hes crying and now the other ones are crying and hugging him and it's a lot
He's damn exhausted at the end of the day
But he has his heartbound now, and it's okay
Eventually he does get out, better, happier, healthier, and his heartbound are 170% so ready to have him in their lives

He doesn't understand why he's being teased for this
Gets in the habit of telling Virgil "this is a comfortable silence for me" because sometimes Logan will just stop and think and its.. very quiet

He's very dead to the world in such a state, likes it when Logan reads to him
Was treated by Picani too
They have all been living together for three years before getting their first message from virgil
Patton FLIPPED OUT, Roman screamed, and Logan kind of just went 'oh' but they could tell he was happy because he kept tapping his hands to his legs
At the hospital virgil made friends with the following people:
Elliot is one of the first to welcome Virgil and always invited Virgil to hang with the rest of them, no matter how many times Virgil said no
Virgil walks past the hang out room, he calls to ask if he wants to hang out, virgil shakes his head hard and runs. every day for like a month until virgil says yes.
Got really happy when Virgil said yes
In the hospital to get over trauma from an abusive relationship, flinches a lot

Most of the names he give a start with d, so most just call him Dee or declan, its the name he gives out most
Sometimes hell ask to be called a certain name for a day, everyone just rolls with it
Declan learned to lie and lie well due to overly strict and picky parents, it was to protect himself from them and even protect his older brother who was a lot softer than him
older brother, who is actually called fabian, is there for him on visiting day.
Will say something, wince, take a deep breath, then say the truth with a lot of effort
Writing is so much easier for him

Picani knows his name, won’t tell anyone
Remy
Is also an asshole but like in a nice way?
Fucking loud to compensate for how tired he really is
In his own words, ‘has insomnia and is depressed A-F’
Wanted to kill himself
Will claim Starbucks saved his life to be dramatic, only few people know why, declan virgil and picani know
Remy is the kind of depressed where he wouldn’t kill himself because of 'future obligation’
'My parents aren’t home I could easily do it but I told them I would feed the cats and they wont get fed if i do it now’ or 'i have so much time but I told my friend i would edit their essay and I need to do that first’
Went out with friends to just dick around, got a stupid fancy drink at Starbucks, and told his mom about it when he got home
Decided he would kill himself tomorrow, he gave his friends one last good memory, told his mom he loved her, he was ready
Next day his mom give a him a 50$ gift card to starbucks, told him it’s for him and his friends because that’s the happiest she’s seen him in so long
He fucking broke down because he can’t kill himself now, he can’t waste her money or her kindness but he’s so fucking tired and so done and he can’t do it anymore
She supports him as best she can and gets him to the hospital
During visiting day she brings his friends, all wearing matching sunglasses, and a coffee carrier with like five different drinks all for him
They all scream at each other happily and they talk about how much better he looks, how much happier
His friends are the slowmo super heroes and sun and moon
No one in the hospital knows his soulmate or if he even has one
uhh taadaa! do with this what you will
