i love tragedy.
i love when a story is sworn to end horribly, no happy endings. it’s fated to fail, and everyone within it will either be dead or go mad or lose everything they love and then some. if only orpheus hadn’t turned back. if only achilles would have listened to patroclus. if only romeo had received the second letter. if only they weren’t all doomed right from the start.
but they’d do it anyway, every single time. to continue to go on knowing something will end in pain is the epitome of love.
if we didn’t love so much, there would be no tragedy. if we don’t accept tragedy, there would be no love at all.

for me it’s about how it’s the love that makes it a tragedy. if louis had grown to hate lestat, this would be a revenge story or a tale of self-empowerment maybe, and louis certainly wants to trick you into thinking this is the story he’s telling, but he betrays himself and the love slips through the cracks anyway. and it’s a tragedy because, in spite of everything lestat did, louis loves him, and he hates himself for it.

Kepler accepting his emotions for Jacobi too late (after years of denial), living the last days of his life regretful but happy, and Jacobi’s feelings finally reciprocated only to have all he ever wanted immediately ripped from him will never not be my favorite outcome for them

so like, which one between Aires and Jesse would die for the other-
idk lmao this just randomly popped into my head and now I have to ask it
They would both die for each other,, but in reality Jesse would probably die protecting Aires which would send him into a fit of rage (totally doesn’t happen in a fake out way in my s3 hc scenario 🫣🫣🫣)

the way codywan is like. loving someone because they Understand the weight of duty, they Get it, they get what it means to have big picture responsibilities and burdens as your top priority (to cherish those responsibilities, even. to love your people and your culture and care about the galaxy, to do everything with compassion, to know no other way of moving through the world around you.) but also that weight and those responsibilities are exactly the reason you can't be together--

people often complain about the jedi council initially being cold to babey anakin, but i love that scene, and love them for being wary. it just makes sense for them to be that way. qui-gon was asking them to let him teach this super powerful kid how to do unimaginable violence, and we the audience already know by virtue of the inherent tragic irony of the prequels that particular kid ended up hunting and killing and eradicating them all. we are aware of that approaching catastrophe, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it, only witness it unfold.
we know anakin actually was dangerous, for all the reasons established in first scene. lucas is shouting to the audience: “these are the things to watch out for! this is why he’ll fall!” like we’re supposed to learn the rules to know how he’ll break them, be reminded of how emotions and the force work. the fact that they ended up making an exception for this terrifyingly dangerous, darling little boy at the end, we were supposed to feel the dread of understanding of that inevitable tragedy!! we know what’s coming and can’t stop this train, vader is being, will be, and was born, and that scene is warning us about why.

Loki finale being unsatisfactory to me isn't because Lokius (it's there, btw) but because when the whole thing is Loki learning he deserves to have somebody, he deserves to not be alone, to not push away people who cares for him, and the finale is Loki being alone even if he knows people would choose him
well. I think I can feel it is unsatisfactory because the whole thing is "and yet, he will be alone", "and yet, Loki always loses" or something.

This really takes the cake how hikaru couldn’t properly confess his liking to him and now some super natural being is all over him in love (in the same body) because of old memories and feelings-meaning how it’s not very organic.

Y'know. For someone who rarely writes characters being happy. (I only know how to write angst) I sure do want my favorite characters to be happy

it makes me insane the way that beleg is doomed by love. knowing it will kill him and walking into it anyway like boy
love is literally overwhelming his self-preservation to that extent—not just knowing it will kill him, but knowing it won’t save túrin either

something about growing up and hating tragedies and believing that a happy ending is possible or should be no matter what and slowly realizing that tragic stories are actually stories of love from writer to character and writer to world and what does it matter if they’re doomed because they loved each other! and they were still here! and they still mattered!
