i love (love) (/not correct not sincere this is an untrue fact about myself) dissociating at band practice and then being expected to sing about wanting to kill myself it’s so fun
#fuck. like i’m the person writing these songs but they are not for these moments#catharsis is something you can experience while you have some semblance of a will to live. not when you are staring into space blankly#feeling like a broken person. and actually at that very moment wanting to die#anyway i’ll be okay. just got home. this mom and kid were in the elevator with me up to the apartment and the mom recognized my cello#(​as being a cello i mean) and asked me about it and i told her i’m in a punk band about it and she said that’s the coolest thing#so that was good and cool. and they live on the third floor i live on the first so i might not see them again. but it was nice#and band was fine. and my band likes my song. but sometimes it actually is bad to sing about this stuff sometimes#(especially because it’s like. this particular song is also about. insecurities in relationship. and i’m able to play the song because i#don’t really feel those insecurities as much any more and i’m in a better place with regards to. not spiralling about being loved. however#that only applies to the relationship insecurities of that moment. when i was writing it. and i went a while without developing new ones#but now there’s a lot of irl friendships that feel as unstable as i felt at that time. and so now the song means something to me directly#and now it hurts again. and it’s not good. i’m like scared for certain people to ever hear it)#anyway my mom and little sister are actively waiting for me to come out of the bathroom where i sit typing this. and tell them how band was#and whatever i say will not involve any of these facts. but i sure have to go say it#so idk. i love you guys. struggling a bit. but i’ll be okay. scary current relationships mentioned = nobody here i feel pretty stable#i have built relationships that i feel confident about. with the most important people. and that is really good and i’m glad#there are other newer scarier relationships that i am going insane about. a teacher and two students and a coworker. wish me luck#anyway i have to go. but yeah. idk. i’m so tired. heading out now. be back in a bit#me. my post. mine.#delete later#suicide mention#ask to tag#vent cw#(kind of)#friends only

sunday was a public figure. head of the oak family and at the will of the watchmaker, anybody who had even heard of penacony probably had heard of him. while he did manage most of the affairs of penaconians in his office, he was a well known face - mainly due to him making sure he could accompany his sister to her performances and personally greeting very important guests.
to maintain such a high profile position, sunday had no room to be shy nor anxious when it came to anything. he needed the ability to communicate with and sway anyone to his whims and so he needed to show no signs of weakness. perhaps it was maybe helped by the fact that he did have quite the desperation for control and so to achieve that, he needed everybody to see him as the confident and formidable person he was.
as a result, alot of his relationships were strictly business - in a way every business relation he built up was built up to his benefit, to keep him in control and eventually elevate his status. he needed to be in control to succeed and so he never took up opportunities that made him feel like his control would diminish and leave him scrambling for his power. by extention, sunday wasn't exactly the kind to enjoy physical affection, if anything he despised it. of course there were exceptions to a degree, namely his sister and you.
you were like a complete polar opposite to sunday. he was confident and an influential figure that liked keeping people at arms length, even those he was close too. you were a shy and reserved person who craved nothing more than to be close to those you held dearly. physical affection was very dear to you but unfortunately the shyness was an obstacle that prevented most forms of physical affection - unlike sunday who would take any opportunity to stay away from any kind of physical contact.
sunday didn't mind how shy you were, it didn't really matter to him as he enjoyed your company nonetheless. he didn't mind doing things for you and so if your shyness did prevent you from talking to people he'd gladly step in. your shyness was actually a great comfort to him at the end of a day filled with business dealings, just to spend his evening with you indulging in smalltalk and relaxing without the pressure of being the head of the oak family.
it wouldn't take sunday long to notice how hesitant you could get in private, you always looked like you wanted something but you never said anything and so he didn't know what to do. if something was bothering you, you probably would have told him know no? truth be told, your issue wasn't so much your shyness when it came to physical affection but more with how unsure you were with sunday's willingness to just that.
you knew for a matter of fact that physical touch and affection wasn't exactly sunday's deal, so you're shyness was overcome with worries that he wouldn't understand your love for physical affection. you started fearing that this would be the reason you couldn't stay with sunday, that this would be the breaking point of your relationship. what made it worse was that you never brought it up. you were way to shy about it to bring it up and so you say on the issue.
that was until sunday started picking up more ideas to what was causing your hesitation around him. he noticed how a simple act of hand holding made your face light up even if you didn't mention anything, so unconsciously he started doing that more. sunday realised you were very fond of physical affection and maybe you were just hesitant that he wouldn't appreciate it.
it was true that he was uncomfortable with most kinds of physical affection but maybe he could try and make an exception for you - he really couldn't bare seeing you so pained because you couldn't ask him. simple acts like hand holding, that still made you light up, were bearable with him to start as long as he still wore his gloves but you didn't seem to mind. maybe just maybe he could atart building up his tolerance just for you.
or maybe he couldn't deny you when he realised you built up all your courage just to ask him for a hug. sunday fully understood now, he knew for sure that you lived physical affection but you were simply too shy to ask for such. albeit he probably didn't help you by seeming so off put by physical affection but he just had to prove to you that you were indeed an exception - so long as you still let him get used to more physical contact.
it all seemed worth it in the end to him. seeing your face light up when he offered a hug, a small kiss, or even hand holding made his day, what really made it worth it for him was seeing you becime more comfortable with asking for the physical affection you lived oh so much. it may be foreign and slightly uncomfortable to him but he'd be willing to build up that aspect if it meant helping you in the process.

Flashbacks in Stranger Things: When, Why, and How They Are Used (Long Analysis)
sit back and relax everyone. this is gonna be my longest post yet.
disclaimer before anyone proceeds--i have not tagged this post with any relationships other than byler so if you do not like this pairing please just scroll past this post! i never cross tag because i truly want a safe fandom space for everyone. this is just my analysis of the show and my own brainrot.
I’ve thought about the usage of flashbacks in Stranger Things a lot over the past few weeks. I saw a post by user @girlskth on Twitter (HUGE shoutout to them for this very eye-opening post, please go check it out their tweet and give them all the love!!), who mentioned the contrast between Max’s scene in Dear Billy (running up that hill → from Vecna), versus El being trapped by the vines in 4x09.  First: we need to talk about flashbacks as they have been used throughout film and TV history as a key literary device. Here are some articles that I found that explain why flashbacks can be so important to understanding characters:

This quote is vital:
"Flashbacks are really a function of character, not story…the visual image we’re seeing is what the character is thinking and feeling at that present moment…it illuminates a character’s point of view.”
Flashbacks are never pointlessly placed. There is always an intent behind reverting back to the old material to demonstrate something about the character’s current mindset.

These two scenes are clearly parallels (complete credits to @girlskth for bringing this up), as both Max and El are encountering the same situation–being trapped in Vecna’s lair and hearing a monologue from him. The scenes are not only plot parallels but visual ones.
However, there is one thing lacking in this parallel, and @girlskth brilliantly points out what it is—their emotional connection. Max relies on flashbacks of her happiest memories to free herself from Vecna’s trance and come back to reality. There are MANY flashbacks of her platonic relationships (her friendship with El being the most significant), and her romantic relationship with Lucas, which is ultimately what gives her enough time to run away from Vecna.

Now, going into El’s scene, I as a viewer was EXPECTING that they would show flashbacks of El’s happy memories with Mike during his monologue. This is coming from someone who does not ship these two characters together at all.
I like them as friends, and I was still waiting for them to show us moments from their kiss at the snowball, from Mike giving Eleven the name “El,” from Mike calling her for 353 days in season 2, from Mike saying “No, El, you’re not the monster–you saved me,” from El saying she loves him at the end of season 3…but nothing. 
Absolutely no flashbacks were shown apart from the scene of the boys finding El in the woods. This is extremely odd for a couple who has supposedly been the centrepiece of Stranger Things for four seasons, or, in the words of people who ship these characters, have been “built up for four seasons.” But no. Nothing.

This is an INSANE contrast to Max’s Dear Billy scene, which went out of its way to show her history with all of these characters over the 3 seasons her character has been in the show. 
The concept of “show, don’t tell,” is critical in understanding this parallel. Take Max’s relationships that are highlighted when she is in Vecna’s trance: these flashbacks all occur because she knows they will give her strength. She is never verbally prompted to think about these memories because she has confidence they will help her fight in her darkest moment. Here’s some more information on show don’t tell and how it is used in media:

If we apply Max's unconcious logic to El’s scene in Vecna’s lair, being able to pull from her happy memories with Mike should have been something that came relatively naturally to her. Except, this didn’t happen. What did happen? El’s memories with Max DID come naturally, and those memories ultimately saved Max’s life.

Zero Flashbacks to Mike/El's Past Seasons' Dynamic
While waiting for volume two, even as someone who likes this pairing platonically, I was excited to see flashbacks to season 1 Mike/Eleven once they reunited at the Nina Project. I’ll always be nostalgic for seasons 1 and 2 and I wanted to see some of their friendship dynamics from those seasons come back. I was literally expecting there to be some sort of “still pretty?” flashback, or some other cut back to season one. Again, I am saying all of this entirely as someone who 100% believes in a byler endgame for this show. I was still very surprised by this, and it is clearly intentional on the writer’s part.

Some would argue that the lack of flashbacks is due to the varying perspectives in Mike’s monologue scene. We see Mike’s, Will’s, El’s, and Jonathan’s POVs switching between each other in this scene. When peeling back the layers, we learned that Mike's monologue utilizes the miscommunication trope in a big way. Let’s analyze:
Mike is under the impression, because of Will, that “these past few months she (El) has been so lost without you…You make her feel like she’s not a mistake at all–like she’s better for being different. And that gives her the courage to fight on.” —Will, 4x09
First and foremost: Mike’s monologue would not have happened without Will’s veiled confession in the van. He believes Will’s feelings are El’s, and it is these feelings that make him think that what he says is what El needs to hear. 
Mike is TOLD (not sure if he entirely believes it especially after the final scene in the cabin when El walks away from him, but we’ll have to wait for more scripts to see the truth), that El has been “lost” without him and that she “needs” him to be able to fight.
This is what he is TOLD by Will about El, and this is not true, as NOWHERE during any of El’s scenes at school in California, or once Mike comes to visit, or during her time at the Nina Project, or during her battles with the military + Vecna does El EVER give the impression that she somehow needs Mike in her life to keep fighting, or that he gives her courage. In fact, given all of the parallels El draws between Mike's "what did you do?" and Brenner's "what have you done?" I would say what Mike gives her is the opposite of courage.
El keeps fighting because she has come into herself and she is powerful and strong, not because she needs Mike there to help her. And Mike, prior to Will’s confession, knows this is the truth, as seen by the line in the official script that was cut out from the show:

If El truly needed Mike to “fight on,” as Will implies with his own feelings, I believe that more flashbacks would have been utilized, regardless of the multiple perspectives in the scene, to show how Mike has supposedly helped El “fight” in the past. But none of this was shown BECAUSE El’s battles have always been about her personal arc and growth. In the past seasons, El has never relied on or needed Mike to help her fight–he has been misled because of Will’s veiled confession. 
Perhaps the best example of El’s battles being about her own growth is in the 2x09 scene where she closes the gate: you'll see here that all the flashbacks she has during this critical battle have to do with her personal growth and past trauma. The same is true of her fight with the Demogorgon in season 1, of learning from Kali in season 2, of fighting Billy and the Mind Flayer in season 3--her relationship with Mike is not critical to any of these battles. It is her friendships and familial love that motivates her as well as her own coming of age.
The miscommunication about El "needing" Mike to be able to "fight" explains a lot of things, including, at least to an extent why Mike VISIBLY HESITATED when saying “I love you” for the first time in his monologue. There are obviously other reasons to this that have been analyzed by many other people, but I feel this miscommunication is critical.

This is something that has really been annoying me ever since season 4 came out: the whole plotline about Mike not being able to say he loves El should be extremely clear to audiences about what it implies. I love romance and I KNOW that the Duffers can write amazing love stories (Lumax, Jancy, Jopper…).

Lucas and Max never once say they love each other but it is clear to audiences–they SHOW it in their own ways. 
True love is shown, not told–especially in media.
That is how the most popular romantic pairings are so believable to audiences. Showing, not telling your love for someone, makes it feel real. And boom: ever since season 3 and ESPECIALLY after season 4, there have been hundreds of thousands of people saying that Mike/El's dynamic seems "off" somehow.
My point here is that if you love someone unconditionally, if you are truly, deeply in love with them, you would not hesitate for a moment to say that you love them, especially if they practically beg you to say it while crying about that very fact. You would also not call them “ridiculous” after they start crying and then you proceed to deflect blame about a situation you caused onto other people. 
Love is powerful. To me, it’s one of the most powerful things that exists in this world. And I believe that the writers of this show feel the same way: Love Conquers All. I’ll insert one of my favourite quotes from Avatar: The Last Airbender to display how I feel about this topic:
"You have indeed felt a great loss. But love is a form of energy, and it swirls all around us. The air nomads' love for you has not left this world. It is still inside of your heart, and is reborn in the form of new love." -Guru Pathik, Avatar: The Last Airbender
Real, romantic love is never something that should be questioned at critical moments. Let me emphasize: I do not question that Mike platonically loves El. He clearly loves her a great amount as shown by what he has gone through with her over the course of the show, just as he loves Lucas, Dustin, Max, Nancy, etc. 
Millie literally said in an interview for ST4 that “Mike is not loving Eleven the way she wants to be loved.” This situation for El is honestly extremely heartbreaking because she truly deserves so much better than what she’s been given. El is one of my favourite characters and I love her dearly, and seeing her suffer because of this relationship as well as the bullying at school hits very close to home for me. She deserves so much happiness and I hope she gets to have endless amounts of it by the end of season 5. 
How else have flashbacks been used in Stranger Things? 
The article I cited earlier holds true to the Stranger Things writer’s perspective on flashbacks. Remember: "flashbacks are really a function of character, not story…the visual image we’re seeing is what the character is thinking and feeling at that present moment…it illuminates a character’s point of view.” Utilizing flashbacks as a literary device in this manner has been seen multiple times in the show at key character moments. 
Will and Joyce

This flashback is key to showing Joyce's relationship with her son and how much she loves him. It holds true to the article in that it SHOWS that while searching for Will, she thinks back to the time they spent together in Castle Byers.
Jonathan and Will

Jonathan's relationship with Will is key to season one and remains one of the most beautiful parts of Stranger Things. This flashback, just like the ones with Max and Joyce, happens naturally. Jonathan associates The Clash with Will and can't help thinking back to their happy memories together once he hears the song play. This simple scene shows the depth of their relationship.
Hopper and Sarah

In my opinion, this is by far the most effective use of flashback Stranger Things has used to date. When I watched season 1 in 2016, this was the scene that made me cry my eyes out. I still think about it to this day as the catalyst that started my long-running love for this show. While trying to revive Will, Hopper is reminded of his daughter Sarah's struggle with cancer which led to her death. This flashback is a perfect representation of Hopper's development.
Hopper's arc in seasons 1 and 2 was one of my favourite things to watch: he starts as someone cold and isolated who drowns himself in drugs and alcohol to cope with his past trauma. Eventually, he learns to love again in all sorts of ways once Joyce comes back into his life. Hopper's drive to find Will and his love for Joyce inadvertently led him to El, and as he says in season 3:
"For so long, I'd been stuck in one place...And then, I left some Eggos out in the woods, and you came into my life. And for the first time in a long time, I started to feel things again." -Hopper's Letter, 3x03

In summary: flashbacks are used with intent and to SHOW the audience a character's internal struggles and thoughts. Stranger Things follows the textbook way to use flashbacks effectively, and has clearly been selective for a reason when it comes to which moments they choose to remind us of, as well as when, how, and why these moments are used. They have juxtaposed two very similar scenes and how the characters have escaped from the series' antagonist, Vecna, using these flashbacks/memories to their advantage. The final battle between El and Vecna was driven by El's love for Max. Mike was under the impression that what he said was what El needed to hear because it was veiled in Will's feelings. While these ideas have been widely discussed, showing how flashbacks have been effectively used throughout the show and comparing them to their usage (or lack thereof) in season 4 gives us excellent insights into El's headspace, as well as what the future holds for these characters. Wedding Plan and the Evolution of MAME

I have a bit of a love/hate thing going on with MAME, one of the most notorious writers in the bl genre. Her shows have traditionally been a mixed bag of incredible chemistry, high heat, dubious consent, and pushy semes transgressing every boundary laid out for them, all of it built atop a foundation of heteronormativity and homophobic tropes. In the early years of bl, her shows were one of the only places you could go to see mature depictions of intimacy in relationships, but they also necessitated dodging through a landmine of problematic content. So my long standing policy has been to never watch her shows live and instead binge them when they’re done so that I can go in with some idea of what to expect. As someone who liked Love By Chance and TharnType for what they did well despite their problematic aspects, and actually kinda loved Love in the Air, I figured I would watch Wedding Plan at some point, but it wasn’t that high on my priority list. 
So imagine my surprise when people I trusted started telling me: hey wait, this is actually really good? Like, not good for MAME, but genuinely, legitimately a quality show. @bengiyo wrote a great post on the queer read of the story that was very intriguing indeed. @ginnymoonbeam wrote about seeing an authentic representation of her own experiences in the show. When I asked for others to weigh in, @negrowhat, @slayerkitty, @thegalwhorants, @nieves-de-sugui, @he-is-lightning-in-a-bottle, and @magpie24601 all said they were enjoying it to various degrees and that it felt different from MAME’s previous works. So this weekend, I sat down to watch it, and as soon as I finished, I pinged @waitmyturtles, who had previously said she did not intend to watch any additional MAME shows, to tell her she had to add it to her project tracking the evolution of Thai bl. 
Because y’all, this show! This show is stunning, in more ways than one. The people and settings are gorgeous (shoutout to that McDonald’s money), the characters are compelling and sympathetic even when they behave in frustrating ways, the romance is properly swoony, the friendships are deep and touching, the family relationships are complex, and the ending is triumphant. I enjoyed it immensely, and I was taken aback by how genuinely rooted in queer experience and celebratory of queer love it felt. It was kind of a revelation, and I felt compelled to get down some thoughts about it. I’m going to break this down by narrative themes and characters so that I can dig into some of the tropes at play and what makes their deployment feel different here than it has in MAME’s previous shows.
The Core Premise

When I say this story feels authentically queer, this premise is the foundation of that. A lavender marriage is something that can only occur between queer characters. Right away, we are kicking MAME’s typical use of heteronormative tropes right out the door, because Lom already has a wife. Yiwa is his stand-in for the female partner his parents and society expect him to have, so Nuea cannot and will not fulfill that role. Instead, Lom’s pursuit of Nuea is explicitly about his desire to break away from those constraints and pursue the authentic queer life he has never been allowed to live, even if he has to do it undercover of this facade. Lom is gay, and he is pursuing a relationship with a gay man, and there is no coding here to make a heterosexual audience feel like what he wants with Nuea is the same as what he’d have with a woman. The difference, and the way one fulfills Lom while the other doesn’t, is the point.
Nuea

At first glance, our POV character, Nuea, feels like a stock MAME uke character. He is cute, he is a romantic, he is emotionally reactive, and he has a massive crush on Lom pretty much from jump. But pretty quickly, we start to notice some important differences between Nuea and those who came before him, starting with his competence and confidence. Nuea is the ace at his company and excellent at his work, and he’s financially comfortable. He is an out and confident gay man with a strong community of coworkers, friends, and family who will support him through anything and close ranks to protect him when needed. He does not share the standard characteristic of typical MAME ukes: uncertainty about who he is and/or low self-esteem. There’s simply not a whiff of that anywhere on Nuea. He knows who he is, and he knows what he wants. And as the story unfolds and Nuea gets deeper entangled with Lom, we recognize another crucial aspect of him: he is experienced, both emotionally and sexually. Nuea has been in relationships before, he knows how to say no, he knows how to draw a boundary, and he knows when he is deciding to cross one. In short, Nuea has something crucial that a lot of MAME ukes are lacking: power and agency. 
We see this throughout his relationship with Lom, as Nuea begins their flirtation eyes wide open about his own feelings and the fire he’s playing with, and alternately pulls back and pushes forward as his conscience wars with his desires. Nuea wants Lom. Their attraction is extremely mutual. No one is wearing anyone down or inspiring a sexuality crisis in this dynamic. Instead, Nuea’s struggle is rooted in his own morality and desire to be a good person, because he thinks Lom is taken, and he wants him anyway. Which is why we see him waffling so much and sending Lom all kinds of mixed signals, pushing him away with one hand while grabbing him back with the other, drawing boundaries only to step right back over them at the next opportunity. And when he finally crosses a boundary that he can’t rationalize (sex with Lom), he retreats back home to try to get his head together. It’s not an accident that despite Lom being in the active pursuer role, we see Nuea make a conscious decision to move forward and even be the one to initiate a relationship progression at several crucial points in the story. Nuea is making his own decisions here, and he has his own power over Lom that he exercises consistently. He’s warring with himself, not with Lom.

Lom is also, on the surface, a fairly standard MAME seme character. He wants Nuea, and he’s comfortable being pushy about it. He pursues Nuea fairly relentlessly, showing up in front of him even when he’s told not to, and leverages his role as Nuea’s client to see him as often as possible. He obsessively pines for Nuea in a way that also feels familiar. But for me, there is something that makes Lom stand out and feel markedly different from his predecessors in his romantic pursuit: sincerity and frank honesty. 
From the start, Lom is genuine in his interest in Nuea and sincere about how much he likes and admires him. He tells him in a very straightforward manner that he likes him and wants to spend time with him. He tells him he knows he doesn’t have the right, but he wants to kiss him and be near him anyway. He tells him exactly what he intends to do to stay close to him, and then he does it. He tells him honestly that he loves Yiwa, but not in the way Nuea thinks, and that he is not marrying her because he’s being forced. “But Shan,” I hear you yelling, “he did not tell him the most important truth!” And you’re right, he didn’t, at least not until he was forced to do so. Which brings me to the other thing that makes Lom so compelling: the constraints of the closet and his loyalty to Yiwa. 
Lom, unlike Nuea, does not have a supportive family or the freedom to live as an out gay man. What he does have is a best friend whom he loves deeply and completely, to the extent that he would sacrifice his own life and chance at happiness to protect hers. He has no choice but to hold some things back, because to lay it all bare would expose not only him, but her. The decision to tell a boy he likes the truth about the nature of their relationship is not just about him; anyone knowing is also a risk to Yiwa and the life she is building with Marine. And he takes his duty to protect that very seriously. On top of that, Lom has been in the closet since he was a teenager. We know that Lom and Yiwa connected over their queerness and their mothers’ bigotry when they were only 15 and 13, respectively. They grew up Knowing. That self-protective mindset is not something you can easily shake off, and not something you risk for any given person you develop a crush on. He is trying to walk a line in his pursuit of Nuea to snatch whatever happiness he can without blowing up his entire life. 
And to Lom’s credit, the moment he realizes how serious he is about Nuea, he goes after him (with Yiwa and Marine’s support), dutifully pays his penance and earns the respect of Nuea’s family, and finally unburdens himself, looking at Nuea with complete and total honesty and saying to him “This is who I am, this is my situation, can you deal with it? Do you still want me?” And by the way he sobs when Nuea says “YES” and asks to be part of his arrangement with Yiwa and Marine, he never expected for someone like Nuea to accept him and all the complications of his life. He was absolutely overcome by gratitude and relief, and you could see the burdens he’s been living under start to lighten.

I don’t have anyone to compare Yiwa and Marine to, because to my recollection, they are the first significant female characters in any MAME story. And significant is an understatement. Yiwa is the engine that drives this entire story. The lavender marriage is her idea, because it’s the only way she can think to give herself the freedom to be with Marine under her mother’s watchful eye. She is the one who goes to her best friend and begs him to do this for her, because she trusts him absolutely and the devotion between them is complete enough that she knows he will sacrifice in such a monumental way for her. She is the one who encourages Lom to pursue his own happiness with Nuea within the constraints of their arrangement, hoping that he will find his own Marine that can hang in for this half life they’ve constructed to meet the tenets of filial piety. She is the one who ultimately decides to come clean when she sees how the lie is hurting Nuea. And she is the one who makes the final decision to prioritize her love over her obligations to her parents, and in doing so frees them all. 
The fact that a character like Yiwa exists in the bl genre at all, let alone in a MAME show, is mind-blowing to me. A female character with this much depth and narrative importance, who is not just here to play a cheerleader to men but instead to be a fully realized character with her own narrative? A female character who matters? In my Thai bl?? 
And Marine gets to matter, too. Marine, whose experience of coming into this relationship and accepting the limitations of the life Yiwa can offer her is treated with the utmost seriousness. Marine, who we see in joy and in struggle, who is kind and compassionate with Lom, who offers solace and guidance to Nuea, and who ultimately crumbles under the weight of Yiwa’s mother’s cruelty and reaches her breaking point. As minor as her role is, she feels like a real person, not a generic side character. The relationship between her and Yiwa is developed enough to make us feel invested in their happiness, to understand the choices they make, and to ultimately feel joy at them breaking free and living a more authentic life, even if it comes at the expense of Yiwa’s family bonds.
The Ending

Which brings me to the way this show ended its story, and how glorious it was. Yiwa and Marine run away to live on their own, freeing Lom from their agreement in the process. Yiwa takes full blame for the broken engagement, a parting gift to Lom that saves face for his parents and gives him cover to publicly dodge any further expectations for marriage to a woman. Lom’s mother, who is just as bigoted but not quite as stubborn and short-sighted as Yiwa’s mother, understands exactly what has happened, and reaches out to her son to assure him that she will no longer try to force the issue, and to ask him plainly not to run away from his family like Yiwa did. It’s not the support and love of Nuea’s family, but a kind of resigned acceptance that she offers. She knows who Nuea is to her son and she knows if she tries to intervene any further she will lose him for good. It was reminiscent for me of the dynamics between Shiro and his parents in Kinou nani tabeta—it still hurts, but it's a detente everyone can live with.
And Lom and Nuea? Have the freedom to love each other more openly. To flirt in a restaurant and hold hands in public. To live together and call themselves partners to the people who matter. We end on a message from Nuea about the beauty and joy of queer love, the simple nature of two people deciding to marry regardless of their gender, and a promise that someday soon he and Lom will be the ones to make that commitment. Just, perfection, and an earned resolution so rooted in a genuine queer experience. It’s not something I could have imagined seeing in a Thai bl even a few short years ago, and I am stunned that MAME is the one who delivered it. Her storytelling is clearly evolving with the culture around her, and I will be going into her future works with an open mind.

i think part of the reason fans are so split on whether alastor actually has paternal feelings towards charlie or if hes just pretending to get one up on lucifer is the low episode count unfortunately. this show desperately needs low stakes filler episodes. it sucks cause i feel like this epidemic of shafting shows with only 7 or 8 episodes at most is affecting almost everything right now and we're missing out on character development and investment for the sake of getting a burst of attention to make a good impression on a bunch of detached business people. this show would be close to perfect if it had twice or thrice the run time.
imagine if instead of having to slam these important events in the story (which are meant to take place over six months btw) together at break neck pace we couldve had them spread out between quieter moments that let you better understand the "normal" mode for these characters.
we could've actually had tike to sit with the mystery of who killed the angel, we could've gotten more foreshadowing about vaggie being one, we could've seen more guests go the hotel and build the audience's confidence and attachment to her goal, we could've actually seen charlie and alastors growing relationship instead of having it implied later on. that song with lucifer and alastor could've been way more interesting if the story had had the chance to show his and charlies interactions and hint at whether alastor is being genuine in his own way or if he has nefarious motives. heck we couldve gotten multiple episodes in heaven to establish emily and have charlie and her grow a friendship to make that solidarity between them later far more powerful.
It seems like the only things being properly built up atm are alastors and lilith mysterious simultaneous disappearances and angel/husks growing bond. i hope the criticisms against this season motivate the producers to greenlight more episodes for season two so we can make up for lost time. but i doubt it cause these criticisms are being wrongly leveled at the WRITERS when theyre only working with what theyve got which isn't enough to tell this story.

Lucifer was under the impression that their relationship was built on trust.
He’s shown them some of the most intimate parts of himself, and they can’t share this with him? Like he would reject them for something like this sooner?
Tell them that he wishes they felt more comfortable to share this with him, and encourages them to not wear their concealing garments; if they feel comfortable.
Mammon
Shocked that he hadn’t noticed before and feels pretty dumb.
Mammon will be the first to admit to himself (but no one else) that he misses a lot of stuff, but he didn’t think he’d be so thick he’d miss this.
Takes it on the chin though when MC tells them that they shared this with him because they trust him. No one has ever really trusted him before.

Levi
Probably the most….excited about it? But that seems like the wrong word.
Levi is obviously very influenced by anime, and there are a lot of one-armed/prosthetically enhanced characters throughout the genre.
Has a lot of questions about the prosthetic since he thinks it can shot laser beams, or has a secret compartment for charging consoles. Disappointed when it’s just an arm.
Asks it they can use this to their advantage for cosplay events.
Satan
Fascinated by it.
As mentioned in previous headcanons, Satan is very interested in anatomy and the medical field.
He would want to be discreet & respectful in his questions about their prosthetic, the manufacturer, and subsequently what causes it; if they are comfortable.
Pressures them the least to not wear their gloves or concealing garments anymore because he appreciates this may be important to them.
Asmo
Surprised and tries to be supportive.
Takes the ‘it’s ok’ ‘you’re still whole on the inside’ approach that people often do with disabilities, even if they don’t need that encouragement.
Tries to be materialistically supportive with new gloves for accessories or even offers some cloaking magic to cover it completely.
Obviously the most freaked out and uncomfortable.
Beel
Genuinely surprised he didn’t notice before, but Beel is aware he misses a lot of things.
Doesn’t really have an opinion. Though he is curious on how they properly lift things ‘one handed’. Can their prosthetic actually hold weight? Can they do bicep curls?
Now he’s very interested in developing a single arm work out routine. Even if MC doesn’t really want him to.
Holds a lot more of the bags, groceries, and other items they get when they go out because he doesn’t want them break anything.
Belphie
He always knew, but didn’t say anything about it.
Despite people thinking he’s not paying attention because he’s half asleep all the time, Belphie is very observant. He noticed the way their shoulder lend and that they would do most things with their other hand, anxious to move and complete a task before anyone could beat them to it.
Belphie has never had anyone trust or rely in him, being the youngest, so having MC confide in him makes him feel special.
Asks them to sleep on their other side or take it off when they nap together because he doesn’t like it when it poke him.
+Raphael
He’s grateful that they felt comfortable enough with him to tell him; it is a new experience for him. However, he doesn’t see the big deal.
Being of a warrior class of angels, Raphael has many comrades who have scars, permanent injuries, or missing limbs from battle. It’s a sign of their commitment to the fight.
Though MC’s story is probably not as dramatic as that, Raphael is still encouraging to their condition and doesn’t understand why they would try to hide it.
Oddly protective of MC after this new information. Maybe it’s because they can’t really afford to lose another limb? Or at least an arm…..No one really knows.

How would s2 LIs feel when they date someone who's actually new and inexperienced in their relationship for the first time? Are they gonna end well?
I love these kind of sweet questions, thank you! I think most of them would be fine with dating someone inexperienced, but here are some individual headcanons for you
Bobby – I honestly think he'd quite enjoy being the most experienced in a relationship for once, as he strikes me as one who usually ends up with someone more experienced than him.
Carl – He's probably been in that exact situation himself, so he might be surprised at first and then just smile about it as there's nothing wrong with being inexperienced. I think he'd
Elisa – I think Elisa could get a bit impatient as she doesn't really have time to coddle anyone when living her busy influencer life. Still, if she truly loves them then she'll eventually figure out that she needs to slow down for their sake, and listen.
Gary – He's so experienced it might be overwhelming for MC at first, but if they communicate clearly I think they can work it out together. Gary just needs to learn how to take it slow for a bit.
Henrik – Absolutely doesn't matter to him. Do they want to take it slow? Fine by him. Do they want to learn as much as possible as fast as possible? Also fine. He's so easy going and will just ask them what they want, making sure they're comfortable. No problem at all with him.
Ibrahim – Rahim is a bit complicated as I think he could go either way, but overall he's protective and in some ways traditional. So I think part of him would almost enjoy having an inexperienced partner, who'd learn from and with him.
Jakub – I think he likes the *idea* of an inexperienced partner more than actually having one to be honest. I just think he's too impatient to face the reality of having to take things slow. I'm not a Jakub stan at all though, so I might be biased here lol
Lucas – Definitely fine with it (and maybe a kink of his? I don't know but he's definitely one to be turned on by both getting to teach and being taught). He's got more general commitment issues that might be a problem, but if they can work through those it'll be fine!
Marisol – If she could choose I think she'd prefer someone with more experience, but she won't turn someone down because of it. Love is more about the deeper connection to her, even if s*x is also very important. So yeah, I think if things are made clear from the start that she'd be fine with it (and she'd be a fantastic teacher)
Noah – I think he'd be pretty chill about it. It's basically canon that he loves strong, independent women/people, but that doesn't mean they need to be more romantically experienced than him. As long as the relationship is built on trust and love he'll be happy, and I think it could be confidence building for him too in a way.

well lolly , since theres only six days left can we get some super wrong or super right predictions from you?
I'm a little late (4 days now!!) Anyways I'm not good at predictions. Here's some silly little wishes instead. I know I'm not getting any of this but I can dream. (Most of these copy n pasted directly from discord.)
- Gus casting a huge terrifying illusion around everything as he gives Belos one long "reason you need to repent for your sins" speech. He walks towards him, shifting into all the people he's hurt over the centuries. Then he turns into Evelyn, then Caleb. I want Gus to be Belos' worst nightmare basically.
- I've seen takes that Gus being the key against Belos and all the grimwalker lore wouldn't fit and has nothing to do with his arc and it shouldn't be his responsibility. But like
Gus has spent his whole life being deceived for being trusting and gullible. Gus going up against a man who has built his life on lies and deception. Oh it would fuck. And all the similarities between Gus and the Collector. Like this part of the story is practically tailored for Gus to slip into. If you know how to write it. And I just hope they know how to write it
Ohhhhh I know Gus already loathes Belos as much as anybody but ohhhhh. He learns the Collector lore and then turns to Belos, eyes glowing like "You lied to him. You said you were his friend but you lied to him."
- I'm not an Amity Blight expert so I'm probably far off. But I've been thinking about it. I'm wondering if maybe her puppetification is JUST her, rather than it being all of the kids. And maybe Odalia is directly responsible.
And considering Amity is overdue for her ✨️Moment✨️ I'm wondering if this might be it. There's a running theme in the owl house when it comes to puppets and puppet masters, and this is directly linked to the characters who suffered abuse and manipulation at the hands of their parental figures.
Hunter got his puppet moment in TTT. Maybe Amity gets something similar in WAD. I know she's HAD her big important moment of establishing her autonomy in EE and then again in COTH. But maybe its one final nod to it. I also find it interesting that in spite of being puppetfied her hand is moving. Like to symbolise this defiance and stubbornness to comply with what Odalia has demanded of her ever since EE
- I've been mostly thinking about the potential scenario of Belos!Luz and GG!Hunter from Luz's POV. Cuz idek if we're getting the actual Hunter or a dream version of Hunter.
But like. It's FUCKED. Because Belos was Hunter's blood relation. He was his family. A terrible twisted version of a family but the only kind Hunter knew.
And then came Luz, who reinvented the meaning of family for him. She confided in him, she trusted him, she loved him. She made that boy her family because she adored him.
So THIS is deranged. Its warping the relationship they've built together into this depraved disturbing thing. The merger of these two family dynamics into one sickening thing. Like Luz was his shelter. But now she's become the exact thing he was running from.
Having Hunter look at her with blatant fear, shrinking himself so he stands beneath her, the horrible emotions that must make her feel. Oh I HATE THIS!!!
And even getting this miniscule comfort of Hunter ripped away from her. Like he was her PERSON. The only one who was aware of the horrible things she's done and she doesn't feel judged by, for several months. Like if all else failed, at least Hunter didn't hate her.
And now THIS scenario which is like "maybe....maybe he should be the one to hate you the most."
- Want a scene where Willow and Hunter gotta split up and there's some kind of antagonist pursuing them. They've only got a moment of peace before it reaches them. And Willow's like "You go ahead. I'll hold them off." (Like she did in LR) and Hunter doesn't want to leave her. But the circumstances are dire and he knows he has to and he KNOWS she'll keep herself alive. But he still worries. So they promise each other that they'll stay safe and Willow turns her back to him after that, preparing herself for a fight and expecting him to hurry off now. But he doesn't. He lingers there for an extra moment, wanting to tell her something but unable to put it into words. Then he zaps himself to her side, hastily smooches her cheek and zaps away before she can recover from her shock.
And then Willow is just. Left there. Stunned. Staring blankly at the space where he once was. And then a smile cracks her mouth wide open. Whatever she's fighting catches up to her and Willow can only cackle giddily, her engine all revved up, and she's all like LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
Willow gets one teeny tiny little smooch by Hunter and it makes her go all "I AM POWERFUL AND I WILL NEVER DIE!!!!!!!"
- Actually overall I believe in a Willow and Hunter comic relief. I think Gus and Amity are both having special spotlight in this episode. And Luz will finally reunite with Eda and King. And idk WHERE the fuck Camila is (smooching puppet Darius or smth). But ya Willow and Hunter are gonn be so cringe.
- Evelyn Clawthorne voice reveal and Irish accent.
- Belos dies an excruciatingly painful death
- Hunter Noceda
- If there is not a big dramatic scene dedicated to Willow and Gus reuniting with their dads I am fucking killing somebody.

I once had this topic in my posts, and I want to talk about it again. Perhaps I will say the same thing, but in this context it is important to bring to the main idea.
So, the found-family trope. It has been perverted into "here's a set of characters, I've squished them into the heteronormative roles of father/mother/child". - found family CAN be that, in some cases, but that is not what the trope was initially founded on. The found family trope was built on NON-CONVENTIONAL FAMILIES/RELATIONSHIPS. It is about finding a family OUTSIDE of the one you were born into, a family that can be whoever you want, and look however you want it to. That's the very reason it's so popular in LGBT+ spaces. It is not about pushing people into strict parental/child roles. It is about finding family in other people, regardless of what they are to you. Romantic partners absolutely count as found family, so no, we are not pushing aside a lovely found-family trope for the "sake of a ship" (a silly sentence to begin with, imo, but I digress) Hank and Connor ARE found family, because you can find your family; your comfort, your helper, your partner in life, in your husband, wife, or partner. The opportunity for a queer love story does NOT cheapen anything, especially in todays world, where it's desperately needed right now.
So, when people say they are not infantilizing Connor by making Hank treat him like a son because adults are allowed to have parents and that Connor is smart and all but he’s still unexperienced when it comes to human emotions and needs someone to guide him and that Connor needs a guide, an anchor in his life I always ask myself why.
Why it has to be Connor of all androids? Why do people think Connor needs an anchor, a guide and why do they think he’s unexperienced? Considering, he’s a clever machine whose brain, or whatever he has in his head, works much faster than human being’s. Does that mean all the androids need a guide and an anchor? Isn't that infantilization? Weren't they actually shown as independent individuals? Doesn't this destroy him as an independent person who's already decided who he wanted to be and is aware of his own actions? In addition, people forget that he is not a human and he may not need the very concept of a father figure or parents/child relationships at all.
I have often seen how people who insist Connor needs a father, need a father figure themselves, in fact, they simply project their desires onto Connor and Hank due to a lack of fatherly love or attention, and some of them have directly admitted this to me. Tho, they choice of Hank as a father figure seems really ridiculous, considering how his relationships with Connor started. But then again, Connor is not a human, and such concepts may be alien to him. We do not talk about Markus here, because he lived for 10 years with a man who considered him a son from the very beginning. Therefore, Markus is the exception rather than the rule. We leave out Alice because she was essentially programmed to be a child and needs to be taken care of, this is basically her function. And there were no other examples of family relationships among androids, there were only couples.
The most interesting part is also that people who are usually against HankCon, seem like the ones who are applying their personal feelings and issues to the characters. Can your partner not be your family? Is your partner not your friend, your confidant, and the person that helps you heal and uplifts you? Those things aren’t locked to just platonic or familial relationships.
Although I'm still sure that good old stereotypes are to blame, because if Hank was younger or at least looked younger, no one would think of him as a father figure. If people are only doing this because of his age and looks (and I suspect that's the case... in most cases), it's largely the fault of the fandom itself that forces Hank into this stereotypical role. Because a lot of people who played the game, but have never been part of the fandom, have no problems seeing Hank and Connor as a potential couple or just who they are accrotding the plot - friends), it just shows how incapable they are of analyzing characters. Because according to this perspective, any human being, if they are not a child or a teenager, will be more experienced in life than any android. Shouldn't androids view all humans who are over 20 as their potential parents or parental figures then? But for some reason, if a human being looks young, no one assigns them such a role, although from such a point of view this is exactly how it should be. So either people accept that Connor is an adult, capable of making adult decisions (while remembering that he is not human), or they accept that any android is infantile by the very fact of their existence and needs a parental figure, even if humans who the androids interact with, look young.

Derrick - He's quite close with both parents, more so with his father than his stepmother, Margaret. He's very close with both his half-sisters, Anne and Lucretia. Margaret is a very proper, sweet, and caring lady. She's known Derrick since he was seven and has loved that boy like he was her own. Lucretia is somewhat in her angsty teenager phase, but she's very sweet and takes after her father's extroversion. Anne is much more introverted but just as kind as her sister. She really looks up to Derrick, though she'd never admit it. Information about Atticus, his dad, and Mundir, his uncle, can be found in the Important Characters post.
Talia - She has no siblings, only her parents, with whom she's very close. Her father, Fabian, and her mother, Anneliese, both work in the church, though Fabian is a regular shmegular priest and Anneliese is a healer. Both parents are caring and affectionate, but aimed to let Talia live as freely as she wished outside of her teachings. She had no siblings, but the other kids that were raised in the church are like family to her. Her parents are very open people and are rarely even slightly worked up over anything, and they could only wish Talia had this trait as well.
Alex - They're amicable with their parents and close with their siblings, besides their oldest sister, Selene. Their father, Heinrich, is a fisherman and their mother, Steliana, is a scrivener. They never built that close of a relationship with their parents due to how busy their schedules were, so they grew closer with their siblings as a result. They have four other siblings, including Selene, with them being the second youngest. In order of age: Selene, Vera, Simon, Alex, and Anghel. All of their siblings remained back home, or, at least, close to their parents.
Z - Z, like Talia, is also an only child, but they're quite distant with their parents. Leopold, like in many of his other pursuits, treats Z like an extension of himself and wants them to follow his every move, even though they're obviously disinterested. Rebecca is colder than her husband, but she's always tried to coddle Z despite her failing attempts later in their life. I will reveal that they had a lonely upbringing and they continue to feel that way now.
Lastly, can you share more about MCs family?

Cyprian is your annoying, but doting, brother and the new king. He's naturally a nervous fellow but hides it under many layers of false confidence. He cares deeply for everyone in his life, maybe a little too much with how hesitant he is to break some ties. Despite this, there are ways to decrease your relationship with him, but I wouldn't recommend lmao.
Stefan is your similarly anxious father, but he actually shows it unlike Cyprian. He was a very good king, leaving your brother with some big shoes to fill, but he's never pressured you two to be anything but yourselves. He's kind to practically everyone, but he's especially sweet with his family. Even so, he can and will enforce rules and discipline unto you should you need it.
Mirela is your distant and relatively stuck-up mother. She married into the royal family and she's been blinded by the wealth and luxury of her new life. She's never been particularly affectionate with neither her kids nor her husband, preferring to retreat and do her own thing. She's sterner than your father and has always encouraged you to act first and think later, lest you let an opportunity fall through your fingers.

what do you like most about writing each south park character?
Oh MAN I love this question! I’ve only ever written from the perspectives of Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Cartman, Butters/Marjorine, Craig, and Tweek, so I’ll be focusing on those seven!
Stan I adore making him a massive simp like ohhhh my god Stanley Down Bad Marsh my son hes kind of a loser sometimes and we love him for it! He’s definitely one of my favorites to write and I project onto him a good deal and have a few running gags with him, like a lot of the time I put him in clothes that I actually wear, have him reference media I enjoy, make him vegetarian every single time, just… Stan. What an icon. I love when he’s just so Done with the shenanigans around him too lmao
Kyle is my other favorite, easy, like he lends himself out so well to serve as the voice of reason and there’s so much to do with his character over every au! The majority of my Kyles are very empathetic to a fault, mostly idealistic in their worldview, very introspective, which is super fun to explore! It’s also fun to delve into his hypercritical side, when he portrays a false confidence that he doesn’t feel, when he’s everyone’s go-to. I really enjoy writing style because like yeah they’re in love, but they’re best friends at the root of that, and it’s important to me that their relationship is built off that bond.
Kenny! Dude Kenny is such an inherently complex character, whether you factor in the immortality or not, but he’s so interesting because he’s kind of a comic relief character on the surface, but holds this deep melancholy. He’s another favorite of mine to write and I have so many headcanons for him, like how he’s incredibly good at reading people, super good at making friends and cheering people up. Also I LOVE making Kenny unhinged as shit, like he is my vessel for inappropriate jokes and out of pocket comments, just so much eccentricity because he deserves it damnit! King shit. Or princess shit, perhaps ;)
Ok Cartman, I had SO many hang ups writing Cartman when I first started. I had absolutely no clue how to tackle him, because I don’t really like writing truly evil characters, and when I was super new to sp fanfiction I thought that was the only way I could really do him, that or leave him out. But YALL!!!!!! Once I realized I could write him as actually caring for his friends but just being an abrasive fuckwad for the hell of it, everything changed!!! He is SO GODDAMN FUN TO WRITE like the Cartmanisms are delightful to come up with and he is EASILY one of my favorite characters to include now! His commentary is fucking hilarious and he will deadass just say anything, I can’t BELIEVE I spent so long avoiding writing him bc he’s a blast and the most unserious guy you will ever meet also he absolutely reads fanfiction that guy is devouring dead doves. One of these days I’ll make a list of my favorite cartmanisms I’ve written.
Butters/Marj, so I don’t necessarily have more of an attachment to either version, but I think my favorite thing about writing them is the speech pattern! Butters has more of a hesitant way of talking and that’s honestly super fun to translate into writing. I like making them a really nurturing character, like as the station medic in ATLCTS, but also pretty gullible to shit like pyramid schemes like in the OrangeJuiceVerse. Another character that I hesitated to write from for a hot minute because I wasn’t sure how I wanted to go about it, but Butters/Marjorine is really fun to switch up the rhythm of the prose!
BY FAR my favorite thing about writing Craig is giving him pointless beef with Stan, like when this mf does not care about shit except his bf and stripe it’s so fucking funny to me. In In The Truly Gruesome I had SUCH a blast making him so quick with the comebacks and the nonchalance like bruh he is so damn funny for no reason that’s probably one of my favorite Craigs I’ve written. His relationships with people in his life are really cool to explore too, like in the later OJV he’s really good friends with Kyle, and their differences in personality that au are super cool to work with!
Similar to Butters, Tweek is fun to write because of the distinct speech and thinking pattern! His prose, the slight stutter and hesitation, like you can tell when it’s Tweek talking. That’s part of the reason I alternated chapters in Broken Bottles From Apartment 2 between him and Kyle, because of the juxtaposition of their ways of thinking and talking. Whereas Kyle is concise and deliberate, Tweek is more scattered and sporadic, which is an interesting contrast!

Howdy kids
My name is Dee! It's not the name I went by for most of my years on Tumblr, but it's the one everyone knows me as. You might remember my url as nyriad, visovari... I went by a bunch of others too, but those are the only two I seem to remember now 😅
The last time I was on Tumblr, I was in the middle of a very difficult period of my life that I didn't really have the tools or support to navigate. But sometimes you gotta go a lil wacky and make some fresh new regrets so you can grow up a lil bit wiser and sexier
I quit the internet pretty much cold turkey for a while and it was one of the best things I ever did for myself. I spent a year pretty much focusing on nothing but my immediate surroundings, living in my own skin, learning how to love myself. I've gotten a lot more comfortable being myself, and have grown a lot more connected to the earth.
In my time away, I was diagnosed with ADHD, which even just the diagnosis has significantly improved almost every facet of my life. I've gotten so many new tools and so much new language to express myself and my needs. I've stopped feeling like there is something wrong with me and let go of a lot of shame that I held around myself, my work flow, my ability to focus, my needs for rest, etc. As I've met more people with ADHD, I've grown a lot more empowered and confident. I'm still figuring out what medication works for me (Adderall and Concerta are hell incarnate; Ritalin and Vyvanse are the bee's knees). It's been revolutionary and healing, honestly. Reading the book "Driven to Distraction" was an important first step that I recommend to everyone who's ever thought they might have ADHD, or if you were like me, always felt stupid and slow and always wondered why you never could quite get around to doing all the things you want to do.
I am also currently pursuing a diagnosis for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, as per my doctor's suggestion. I won't get into it too much here, but it is a chronic illness that has made the last year pretty difficult. I have a lot of severe chronic joint pain and lethargy, and it's been... a lot. I'm starting physical therapy soon. This part isn't fun to talk about, but it's becoming an important part of my identity.
I've also met the love of my life, my soon-to-be fiancee, Nathalie! We were inseparable pretty much from the day we met, and spent a year as best friends. And then after that year the sexual tension became too much to handle, and now another year later, here we are, stupidly in love, utterly obsessed with each other, turning every single day into a fun, wacky, new adventure lmao. We've built the most beautiful, trusting, communicative, intimate relationship I've ever experienced and I am so filled with pride and joy and love and happiness every day. We're still best friends -- no force on this earth could ever get us to shut up when we're in the same room. She just fills me with butterflies and glee and light. Nat has this burning desire to create in whatever the most tactile medium she can find is. She loves mechanisms and fibers and all of the ways different materials interact with each other. She inspires me every day to be more open and honest and to pursue whatever creative venture has caught my interest, and I do the same for her. We dance together, create together, and share big emotions and life goals and it's just the most beautiful thing I've ever felt, and this paragraph could go on forever if I don't end it right now
I've also finally started to settle into my writing flow. I've got a space opera that's really beginning to take shape and I'm pretty proud of what it's turning into :) I also have a fantasy saga that's following a few steps behind. Both are things I've been working on for nearly a decade in fits and spurts, but I've done more work on them in the last year than in all previous years combined. I've gotten into more artistic mediums as well: oil painting, photography, beading, and so on. And very into fashion, kind of. Y'all should see my wardrobe these days -- bright colors, crazy patterns, wacky silhouettes. I feel like I finally look like myself. I'm currently rocking a purple mullet and a mustache, so... yeah, I'm having fun with it
I'm not sure how many of my old friends and mutuals are still hanging around, but I wanted to say hey, track a few of you down, and give a little update on how things are going for me post-Tumblr. I am alive, and I'm pretty happy these days. Some days I miss it here, and while I'll never come back in the same capacity as I used to, I wanted to reconnect with some of my old friends that I used to talk to and hang around with every day! I'm gonna poke around over the next while and see who's still around :) honestly I still think about some of y'all on the daily, and I got too curious about how my old friends were doing.

I don't know, this is all kinda word vomit, I guess I just wanted to let all my old friends know that I'm still here and that I'm finally figuring myself out. Top 5 Tsubasa Ships
PFFFFFFT god dammit I'm known too well
Tsubasa x Madina
The oc ship takes the cake here obviously. You just don't understand these two were BUILT for each other, they're SOULMATES😭😤💯 Very chill, very mutually adoring of each other, very autistic, very obnoxious couple to be around by blader standards (though those standards are very low in a romance-less show). Metal Mayhem romance is coming I swear to god, y'all are gonna find it DISGUSTING.
Tsubasa x Kyoya
I don't think I'd thought of this one too much until I watched Fusion, and BOY you can see why! Trying to gain a mutual understanding of each other, Tsubasa proving to Kyoya that he truly does believe in the blader's spirit, Kyoya seeing Tsubasa lay dead on the ground after his battle thinking "I SEE you now". They're the two "no-nonsense serious grumpy frowny face" people of the group, but together they're smirking gayly and sniping at each other like a pair of homosexuals. They tease each other all the time and they are ALWAYS holding onto each other. The clingy Kyoya agenda is alive.
Tsubasa x Ryuga
Now, I don't necessarily ship these two in a typical relationship light like I do with most other ships (except for in my sims 4 world lmao), but I do think that the concept of these two being into each other provides a lot of interesting ideas. The fact that, despite claiming to not care about anything other than his eternal enemy Gingka, Ryuga still flies his ass all the way to Italy to give Tsubasa a little fucked up therapy session at the behest of a mountain goat is very interesting to me. It provides some angsty "why me?" scenarios, because really, why Tsubasa? Doji could've made anyone else fight Ryuga in Battle Bladers, anyone else who fought him could've (and should've) obtained the dark power, and Ryuga could've not bothered with him and gone straight to Gingka in Italy. All in all, the fact that they keep meeting in these frustrating, confusing scenarios, with building tension and annoyance at each other's existence is something I'd love to exploit.
Tsubasa x Jack
Jack is canonically infatuated with Tsubasa and Tsubasa is so very confused as to why. I think they'd make a great odd couple (as well as being the prettiest damn couple you ever did see) with a stone-faced, serious Tsoobs and the kooky fucked up one with a concerning amount of body paint. They share ideals in the importance of elegance and perfected technique, though Jack wants to see it more in other people for inspiration, whereas Tsubasa only needs to see it in himself. Ironically, I think Jack would inspire Tsubasa to be less refined and instead just go with the flow of what he's feeling.
Tsubasa x Benkei
SUMMERSHIPPING OR BURGERSUMMERSHIPPING SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THIS. In Shogun Steel they are the embarrassingly in love dads, and in the Metal series they are the embarrassingly in love teens. Benkei bakes him heart cookies while Tsubasa leaves wreaths of flowers at his door. Benkei loves loudly but bashfully, while Tsubasa loves quietly yet confidently. And they both feel inferior as people due to the events of Fury! :D A whole lot of potential there.
As a bonus, here's a list of people I think would have crushes/romantic tension with Tsubasa without actually shipping them: Gingka, Madoka, Hyoma, Tobio, Teru, Daxiang, Zhouxing, Julian, Sophie, Zeo (he has some issues he needs to work out), Johannes :D

2002: The Bohrok Swarms
Part 1.3: Into the Nest
Y'all ready for some original content?
So this is Into the Nest. Not to be confused with Into the Nest, a mini promotional comic covering the fight between the Toa and the Bahrag. Totally different.
All things considered, this issue is kind of a big deal. To Trap a Tahnok was a fun little side adventure, but now we're getting back into the main plot. The Krana are collected, Lewa is freed, and the Toa begin their descent into the Bohrok nest to end this conflict once and for all.

That said, last time I read this comic, I found it kind of a slog to get through. A side effect of much of 2002's media being somewhat repetitive is that it can make you lose appreciation for certain story beats you've seen a few too many times. Like okay, for example, this issue contains the Krana!Lewa vs. Onua fight, also known as "Onua Saves Lewa's Ass 3: There Will Be Trauma This Time." And this is a very important scene, it's the Lewa mind control episode everyone remembers and the only one that has lasting consequences throughout the story. But because I know this part so well, it was a little hard to appreciate it upon revisiting. I am here now to say my younger self has no idea what he was on about. This is the original version of this scene, the first way most people experienced it, and it's a banger. I do think the extended version in Beware the Bohrok does improve it by allowing the exchange to play out more slowly, but I don't think the comic version feels rushed at all. Maybe a little too easy, given how Krana!Lewa has been built up for two issues by now, but it's still a good moment, and seeing Lewa tear that little parasite off his own face is deeply satisfying.
The pacing in this issue, since I'm apparently focusing on that today, is pretty good overall, actually. Though if I have on complaint, it's the scene of Gali and Pohatu in what I believe are supposed to be the ruins of Po-Koro.

Not that this scene is bad by any means, Pohatu's line here about his people wanting their homes back is actually quite poignant. But it is rather brief, and it interrupts what I think would be a natural flow from the scene of Onua saving Lewa to the scene of the Toa entering the Bohrok nest. I think the point is to show the devastation the Bohrok have caused, and showcase the emotional component as well. This isn't just the destruction of wilderness, which is bad enough already, people have lost their homes. Locations the audience knows and may have grown attached to have been utterly destroyed. But if that was the point, I do think it misses the mark. Maybe if the scene was more obviously set in what used to be Po-Koro, or if there was some smaller detail to show how devastating this event has been to many people's lives. As is, I'm afraid it feels much more like waxing poetic about the horrors of war than showing a burnt child's toy, if you know what I mean.

But to get back to the good parts, the Toa's interactions as they descend into the tunnels are pretty interesting, as they continue to highlight relationships between the Toa that are less focused on down the line. Pohatu and Gali are again paired up here, showing a depth to their friendship seldom acknowledged elsewhere. The Lewa and Kopaka friendship I only noticed through this retrospective continues to shine. And at this point Tahu and Onua seem to be closest to each other. Or at least Tahu views Onua as his closest confidant, expressing to him both his doubts about Lewa and his plan to scout the Bohrok nest. Makes me think that Onua probably would have been Tahu's choice for his deputy at this point, had he been the official team leader at the time. Appropriate given how they were paired up on the cover of Triumph of the Toa and how Onua would go on to be written as Tahu's earliest supporter in Tale of the Toa. But yeah, lesser seen relationships, always nice to find.

And I do also have to give this issue points for its meme-worthy faces. This stuff is excellent. Oh, and also for the inclusion of the first look at the Exo-Toa armour and the Bahrag, of course, that's kind of important I guess. But mostly for the meme faces.
The Bahrag's introduction is actually really cool. They look very fearsome and menacing, and finally seeing the faces of the true power behind the Bohrok is very cool. Makuta in 2001 was an eldritch horror and now the Bahrag in 2002 are very dragonesque, it's a good progression. 'Kay thanks byeee~

nadja x the guide rambles because I’m mentally ill over a ship with close to no actual canon chemistry and I need to make myself feel better via headcanon:
- I just want a scene where nadja and the guide are forced to be alone on a mission and they actually connect quite a bit in a way they haven’t before to the point the guide actually catches massive feels. this actually is the ‘ unsuspected crush ‘ the writers were talking about I’m keeping myself blissfully oblivious to the fact she’s canonically crushing on guillermo - she can have two crushes ok !
- if they were in a relationship nadja would hype up her little anxiety-ridden loserwife so much and she’d help the guide come out of her shell a lot more and get past some of the insecurities she previously had. nadja would be the person in the guide’s life helping her push herself to be more confident and self-loving, while the guide might even help nadja understand humans more and help her be less cold to everyone
- nadja and the guide first start seeing each other and they delve into this passionate “secretive” love affair where they think they’re being so sneaky but everyone finds out literally the second it’s official because they’re not slick about it at all. the others have to pretend like they have no clue what’s going on when nadja makes some bullshit excuse like “ um we have to go. do council stuff it’s very urgent! “ and then she grabs the guides hand and they run off giggling. only nandor is like “ 🤨 but we aren’t on the council anymore “ and everyone else just stares at him tiredly
- they paint each other’s nails/do each other’s hair and talk about all the scandalous things they’ve done over the centuries. the guide is nervous about spilling her secrets at first because of all the shame that’s built up and all the repressed memories but nadja eventually helps her feel more lighthearted about it all and learn to laugh at her past and maybe even feel a little nostalgic instead of guilty
- nadja teaches the guide how to be more aggressive/assertive flat out while the guide teaches nadja how to be more unsettling and ominous. nadja gives her lessons on how to confront people in the loudest and most scary possible way while the guide gives nadja lessons on how to make people shit their pants when she sneakily and mysteriously enters a room. the guide learns how to make people stand down with a single threatening stare and hiss while nadja learns how to jumpscare people through turning into smoke
- theyre passionate and flirtatious 24/7. It’s worse than nadja and laszlo. they’re CONSTANTLY touching and giving each other goo-goo eyes and batting eyelashes and randomly leaving during important meetings just to go make out somewhere or even just enjoy each other’s company in private without any strictly romantic stuff. occasionally you will see the guide sitting in nadjas lap at house meetings or the other way around. they’re constantly attached at the hip and if they’re not then they’re having a couples squabble. no you know what even then they still probably hold hands they both just refuse to look at each other and appear cross despite the fact they can’t stop touching because they’ll get too lonely if they do that
- laszlo is chill with all of this. no, really. “ this is my lady wife nadja and this is her lady partner the guide. “ - laszlo probably, holding nadjas hand while nadja holds the guides hand
- nadja asks laszlo to teach her about psychology and when that inevitably obviously fails she asks (demands) guillermo what he knows about it so she can understand the guide better and even help her through bad ocd/general anxiety moments. she becomes weirdly supportive and gentle and it freaks everyone out
- the wraiths set up nice small cliche dates for them where they dine upon blood in goblets under candlelight on a nice round table with flowers on it in a little vase. they do this at least once a week and nobody else is invited and all they do is vent to each other and hold hands
- nadja helps the guide regain part of her past self and it makes the guide more of a spontaneous party animal at random times and it’s just nadja being like “ YES BABE SLAY! “ while everyone else watches in fear as the guide swings from a very expensive chandelier
this post is getting quite long so I’ll leave it at that but I have so many thoughts about this guys it’s actually insane
