— Chapter One: Unorthodox
Bedtime Story Masterlist | Main Masterlist
Previous Chapter | Next Chapter
The Force ached with emptiness around you. You were taught to not form attachments and that they lead you to the dark side, but how could you not when you’re living with someone, meditating with them for hours on end, going to war with them by your side?
Losing her was like drowning - one minute you were breathing in the air around you, feeling the sun shining on your skin, the next you were pulled by an unyielding force into water and dragged beneath the surface, any remnants of the sun fading from view, the ocean nulling your senses.
The return to Coruscant was painful - you were leaving behind the closest thing you had to a parent on some backwater planet, teeming with Separatists and their army of droids. As the planet faded from view, you couldn’t help but breathe in the water that surrounded you- the first painful inhale of many.
Upon arrival, you were ushered from the landing pad into the temple toward the High Council room - a multitude of Jedi Masters and holos of those away greeted you, all holding the same look of despair.
“Padawan, we are sorry for your loss,” a holo of Ki-Adi Mundi began, “We understand losing your master is difficult. Counselling services will be offered by temple healers to assist in the healing process.”
Master Kenobi glanced at Master Mundi’s holo before turning to you, “Master Umbari was a dear friend and valiant warrior. Her efforts will not be in vain, nor will yours.”
“What happens now? Where do we go from here?” As a senior Padawan, you were sure they’d let you take the trials - a look from Master Windu was all it took to tell you that was not the plan.
“As we find a new Master to finish your training, you’ll be assigned to one of our clone units.”
A look of confusion crossed over your face, a clone unit?
“This unit is a special case, as are you,” Master Fisto started, looking between you and Master Yoda, “You are being assigned to Clone Force 99 - a four man squad with desirable enhancements.”
“Isn’t this unorthodox?” You questioned, looking around the room for an answer.
“Losing a master at this stage in a Padawan’s training is not common and usually we’d be able to find a master within days of passing, but circumstances are not the same as they were years ago. We’re fighting a war, Padawan. Jedi are scattered across the galaxy, and we need all capable hands on the front lines.”
The next few days were agonizingly slow. Sleeping in your quarters without your Master a room over, counselling sessions with healers, individual training - repetitive days, lonely nights.
When Master Yoda summoned you, you didn’t know what to expect. It wasn’t common to be summoned directly by the Grand Master, but you started to understand nothing was mundane in your life.
“Troubled, you are.” The green man greeted you, leaning on his walking stick, “Wondering why you are not to take the trials?” He motioned to a seat across from his own, which you gladly sat in.
“Yes, Master.”
“Think you are ready, we do not. Proven yourself to have much potential, you have, but finished your training, you have not.”
Later that day, you were escorted to an odd-looking ship with four men standing in front of it. A tall and skinny one with a toothpick in his mouth, one with the worst posture you’d ever seen holding a datapad, a larger one with a lot of muscle, and one with long hair and a bandana on his forehead.
“You our Jedi?” The one with the red bandana asked, eyeing your frame.
A scoff came from the man with a toothpick, “Of course they are, Hunter. Why else would they be standing here wearing that?” He pointed at your outfit with his toothpick - how odd.
You looked down at your robes before catching his scowling eyes.
“That is the customary garb of the Jedi, whose origins are dated to be from millennia ago.” The hunched figure addressed your outfit and returned to his datapad, not once meeting your eyes.
“Don’t’cha ever trip on those? They look flowy… and long. Dangerous if ya’ ask me.”
The leader placed a hand to his forehead and rubbed his temples, “Sorry ‘bout them. We don’t usually work with Jedi.” He looked up at you, “I’m Hunter. They’re Crosshair, Tech, and Wrecker.” He motioned to each member as he spoke their respective names.
“Clone Force 99, then?” You’d heard rumors of Clone Trooper 99’s heroic deeds from your old unit, “I like the 99. Nice touch.”
That earned you smiles from your new squadmates, which you took as a sign of appreciation. You introduced yourself before heading into your new ship, which was a big change from the Venator class you were used to. Oh, how you’d miss the Valiance.
“How’d you get stuck with us anyway? You piss someone off?” The one known as Crosshair asked with his arms crossed, toothpick sweeping in his mouth.
Your eyes quickly made their way to his tall stature, unknowingly narrowing in the process. “I don’t see how it’s any of your business.”
“Aw, sensitive subject?” He teased, “It is my business - you’re living on my ship with my squad.” He pushed, obviously wanting some sort of reaction - you refused to give him the satisfaction.
While crafting a retort, Hunter stepped in.
“Cut it out, Crosshair.” He used his authoritative tone to call his brother off, apologizing to you once the taller clone exited the room. “He has a thing for getting a rise out of people - don’t take it personally.”
“Note taken. Thanks for the warning.”
Hunter left for you to settle yourself into your new bunk, located right above Wrecker’s. It took you one night to notice why nobody’d taken residence above him before - his snoring was louder than a fully-grown rancor.
After finally getting to sleep by tuning out the snores and fixating on the calming lull of the ship’s engine, you were woken up by Hunter.
“Hey, it’s our shift.” He whispered to you, shaking your arm lightly.
It took everything in you to not shove his hand from your bicep and go back to sleep. Instead, you made your way down from your bunk, losing your footing on the landing. Hunter quickly placed a hand on your back and grabbed your shoulder to stabilize your body.
Once two feet were on the ground, you whispered a “thanks” and made your way to the cockpit, bidding a goodnight to an exhausted Tech. You took a seat in the co-pilot’s chair, leaving Hunter to sit next to you.
It felt like ages with no conversation before you spoke, breaking the silence. “Do you think it’s normal for Padawans to be sent with a special-ops squad? Jedi aren’t really known for going on covert missions - the lightsaber is kind’ve a dead giveaway.”
Hunter seemed surprised at your conversation starter and thought about your question, “I wouldn’t say abnormal, but unusual circumstances call for unusual resolutions.”
“Do you think it’s a bad thing?” You asked before quickly correcting yourself, “not that you guys are bad or anything!” You waved your hands, not wanting him to get the wrong impression. “Do you think it’s bad that I needed such a resolution? The Jedi don’t go off-book and this is everything but textbook.”
“No, I don’t think it’s bad. It’s just… different. Think of it as being sent on a mission - your mission for the time being is with us.”
The remainder of your shift the two of you engaged in small-talk - speculating about missions you’d be sent on along with their squad’s unorthodox techniques.
”The Council mentioned that your squad has enhancements - what exactly did they mean?” You asked, not understanding what makes them different from other clones (except for the obvious differences in appearance.)
“Crosshair has better-than perfect eyesight - he’s an incredible sniper. Can hit a target from 10 klicks away, if not further.” Hunter went on and explained the enhancements of his two other brothers as you intently listened.
“If Crosshair has good sight, Tech’s intelligent, and Wrecker is strong, what’s your enhancement?” You asked, realizing the Sergeant didn’t speak on his own abilities.
“I have enhanced senses.”
You deadpanned at his bare face, “That’s it? You explained the roles of the three others, but what about your own?”
“I can feel electromagnetic frequencies - Tech likes to say I’m more accurate than a map.” Hunter laughed to himself, “I’m like a tracker, hence my name.”
“I see. I thought you were going to say that patience is your enhancement - your crew seems… interesting.”
“Our crew.” He corrected you, “Any chance they told you what your rank is with us? In the GAR you’re a Commander, but we don’t really… adhere to the norms of other squads.”
You took a moment to think, “I’m actually not sure, but I know from our few conversations that I wouldn’t mind following you into battle. Even if I do technically outrank you.”
“And that makes you different from other Jedi. Most would be offended at being seemingly demoted, even more so by following a clone’s orders.” Hunter moved his gaze from your face to the stars you were passing by, taking in the view.
“This never gets old.”
Hunter looked toward the sleeping Omega before returning to the cockpit, settling in his seat next to Tech.
“What fantastical story are you feeding the child?” Tech asked, facing his newly-returned brother.
“The story of the Commander.”

Saiyan Squad AU (part 1) ⭐️
The Saiyan homeworld is Sadala (because Planet Vegeta is ridiculous), but its capital city is Vegeta, where, of course, the royal family resides. Sadala itself is a conglomerate of Australia, Asia, and Africa and the Saiyans are a mishmash akin to the Spartans, Celts, Aztecs, and Mongols. Sadala is pretty much like a space version of Australia: it’s a chaotic death trap from its climate and wildlife to its inhabitants. The Saiyans are made up of clans and have a feudal system, but they all serve the one ruling monarch.
Saiyans act as mercenaries and hunters. Like Predator, they are best known for traveling galaxies to find worthy opponents to fight. They’re feared and reviled as a race of barbaric savages.
They also look more animalistic: they have pointed ears, sharper teeth, claws, and some fur on their bodies.
Saiyans have had a feud with the Cold Empire for a very long time. At one point, they were allied together but the Cold Empire looked down at the Saiyans and began to subjugate them, so the Saiyans started resisting which led to all out war. When Frieza came to power, he amped up the war. He killed King Vegeta III but spared his young son, Vegeta III, to make the boy his puppet king/child hostage.
The city of Vegeta’s center is where the royalty live, while its outskirts is made up of the slums the third class inhabit. This is where Raditz and Kakarot are born and live with their parents Gine and Bardock. Gine serves as a cook to the troops and the residents while Bardock is a captain of his own troop. Gine and Bardock both teach the boys about hunting but Bardock is mostly in charge of their combat training. The boys start their formal training at five-years-old and are put in the same unit as young king Vegeta.
Raditz is the atypical rough and crass Saiyan boy, but Kakarot is another story. He inherited Gine’s kind heart and good nature, making him seem as weak by most Saiyans. He’s unfortunately treated as an outcast and subjected to bullying from his peers. However, he’s passionate and hard-working and wants to become a great and strong warrior, like his big brother and dad, so he’s committed to training hard. It pays off and he makes enough progress so that when his father Bardock talks with the higher-ups he’s able to convince them to put Kakarot on the same unit as Raditz and Vegeta under Nappa, Vegeta’s guardian.
The Saiyan-Frieza feud reaches its turn years later, when Vegeta approaches age fifteen. By then, he’s old enough by law to rule on his own and he’s determined to break free from Frieza’s grasp. As Vegeta begins to secure his independence and throne and wiggle free, Frieza has become fed up with the Saiyans and sees them as a genuine threat. The final nail in the coffin is when he and his men consult the Kanassans on the future of Frieza’s reign. A Kanassan oracle foretells that Frieza will meet his end at the hands of a golden warrior, presumed to be the legendary Super Saiyan. Frieza straight away comes up with a diabolical plan.
To everyone’s surprise, Frieza not only agrees to Vegeta ruling independently, he also agrees to signing a truce with the Saiyans and ending the bad blood for good. In celebration, a formal coronation is held for Vegeta along with ecstatic festivities all over Sadala. Every Saiyan is recalled back to homeworld for the momentous occasion. However, Bardock and his troop stumble upon Frieza’s real plan: to get all the Saiyans together in one place, make them vulnerable, and destroy them all along with their planet altogether. Bardock’s team is attacked and killed to quiet them but Bardock survives and despite being wounded he races to tell everyone and save his family.
Bardock barely makes it back in time. Just as he’s warning the others, Frieza’s soldiers attack and Frieza himself forms a Death Ball to strike at Sadala. Saiyans desperately try to fight back and escape, but many are killed by Frieza soldiers and many more as the Death Ball collides and the planet begins to destruct. Bardock fights on while trying desperately to find his family.
During Sadala’s destruction, Gine and teenaged Raditz and ten-year-old Kakarot manage to find a pod, but it can only fit two of them. Gine makes the boys get in and go without her, assuring it will all be fine (she knows she’s probably not going to make it, but at least her children will be safe). Sadala finally explodes into oblivion just as Raditz & Kakarot make it to safety. Bardock barely makes it out in time. Gine doesn’t make it.
The Saiyans are thusly reduced to the brink of extinction as only a few thousand remain. Surviving Saiyans flee to a desolated planet to recover. This includes Vegeta, Nappa, Raditz, Kakarot, and Bardock (who barely made it out in time). Because of his wounds, Bardock is put in a comatose state in a healing tank for a few days.
In spite of the loss of Sadala and the majority of the Saiyans, Vegeta swears revenge on Frieza. All remaining Saiyans are ordered to group up and spread out across the galaxies. The war against the Frieza Empire is to continue by any means necessary. Saiyans resort to whipping up secret settlements on planets and fighting back via piracy and guerrilla warfare. The endgame is to tear down Frieza’s empire brick by brick and, ultimately, kill Frieza himself.
Vegeta calls on Raditz and Kakarot to join him and Nappa on his quest to hunt and kill Frieza. Vegeta initially doesn’t want to include Kakarot, whom he deems a liability, but acquiesces.
Frieza puts out a bounty on each and every remaining Saiyan, most of all on the “so-called King of Saiyans” Vegeta.
And so, the Vegeta Force moves out. But they become known as the “Saiyan Squad”. Vegeta and Raditz don’t like it, but Kakarot thinks it’s a cool name.

Moving right along to Rescue on Ryloth
Howzer's face when Rampart threatens Hera oh god, he hates this. Despises it even.
Howzer trying to talk him down as if Rampart is anything but a scumbag. He doesn't know who's responsible but he knows it wasn't Cham damn it. And of course he wants to look for Hera himself because that way he can HELP HER.
"Leave the thinking to me Captain" FUCK YOU RAMPART DO NOT TALK TO HIM LIKE THAT.
Omega trying to fix Gonky <3 And during all this apparently this is the first time she's been told he's a defective unit, it's the way that Gonky can't fulfill the one thing he's been created to do and they don't make a big deal out of it they just bring him with them because they're defective too and they love him.
Hunter last episode like 'hey Omega made a friend :)' to this episode with 'Omega's friend is instantly and immediately in mortal peril' This kind of thing always happens to them.
Children often overreact! are you using your vast experience with a wide variety of children on that assessment Tech? You weren't even aware children needed friends.
Hunter trying AGAIN to back out of doing anything and being put on blast by a 12 year old.
"The shocking attack on your beloved senator" and everyone is looking up at him like 'no actually we hate that guy.'
I love every time Hunter stops everything like a hunting dog because he Sensed something. They've never defined anything about how his senses work just he is Aware of things when necessary for the plot.
I forgot how he took down the probe droid by just fucking goomba stomping and stabbing it.
Honestly if everything were the same but Crosshair wasn't here, I think they wouldn't have tried to back out the second time. But having Crosshair there both ups the chances of them dying or of him dying, and avoiding him is the only way they know of having that not be a possibility. They don't know his chip is out yet, so as far as they know going near him will earn them another 'aim for the kid' moment. They can't reach out to him, he doesn't understand what's going on in his own head, IT HURTS OKAY.
Sign #2 that Crosshair is more himself. He put his fucking ass on Rampart's desk.
Tumblr media
He is also tossing things
Rampart has zero patience for being talked back to and unfortunately unchipped Crosshair is incapable of not talking back, especially about his squad.
I'm obsessed with the fucking wet cat face that he makes when he first looks at Howzer before he remembers that he's SUPPOSED to have a bitch reputation to upkeep and switches it to a glare.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I don't need a lecture Chop" what is he saying Hera is he telling you to commit murders about it?
Hera absolutely SHOOK that the batch are Omega's brothers.
The scene with Howzer and Cham & Eleni hurts my feelings okay, we trusted you Howzer. Please he wants to help, he wants to help so bad.
Honestly though I'm obsessed that Chopper has been with Hera for so long because like her parents met the murder droid that craves blood and violence and went 'yeah this is a good friend for our daughter'
GIRLS ENTERING THEIR SHUTTLE THEFT ERA
"WAIT WHAT SHUTTLE-"
Tech is experiencing every form of Heart Attack at once here
"Yes your dangerous and uncontrolled maneuvering is as confusing to them as it is to us" this is one of my favorite lines he's SO tired.
Howzer gets to me every time, he wants to get through to his squad he refuses to abandon them, even if it kills him. And let me tell you on the first watch through I was SOOOOO SURE HE WAS GOING TO GET KILLED. But of course we get our big sign that Crosshair is Different than last time with the arrest order. I NEED to see theses two interact again damn it, it would be very reasonable for Howzer to be Pissed at him given the whole arrest thing but he doesn't know how big a deal it is that he was not sniped here instead.
Tumblr media
Saddest little face
"If a war is coming, it will be their fight as much as ours." Another reason I think they won't be retiring at the end is that I think there is going to be a bittersweet aspect to the fact that, despite everything, I don't think they're going to be able to give Omega the childhood that Hunter especially desperately wants to give her. They can change how they think of themselves, they can change what they do, but they can't change the fact that war is coming and no matter how hard they try to keep her away from it, there won't be anywhere to run after a while.
"If only they were fighting for us instead of against us."
Honestly love that this is the biggest motivator behind Crosshair wanting them to join the Empire isn't this specifically, they're in danger for going against the Empire but IF ONLY THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR THE EMPIRE. No more danger!
Never caught this before but it looks like he smiles slightly at the end there but it's so damn quick it's hard to tell. Finally Crosshair has an idea! (it's not a great one but it IS an idea.)

A Week of My Enigma - Courting
Fandom: My Hero Academia, Boku no Hero Academia
Rating: G
Genre: Fluff
AN: A week of Enigma Bakugou prompt fills.
Words: 1426
Katsuki knew he was moving fast - he and Deku had only been courting for a few weeks, still had finals and to graduate and figure out where they were going to become sidekicks. He knew this was generally the final step, proving to your chosen mate that you could provide, that there was a safe den to nest in somewhere, somewhere protected where the omega could be cared for. Not that Izuku needed to be cared for; even being an enigma, the supposed top of the food chain, a hunter even of alphas that could forced them to bow with a single lift of his lip, Izuku still took him out an even number of times whenever they sparred.
He was strong, he was beautiful and wonderful and everything inside of Katsuki knew. Had known for a while, he knew; even when he wanted to hate the damn nerd, a part of him had been drawn towards his strength, his conviction, had whined every time he’d raised his hand against him. It was easier now, now that they were friends, that Izuku had accepted his courting gift, had blushed and smiled and immediately wrapped himself in the scented All Might blanket Katsuki had given him over a katsudon dinner. Their mixed smells had been enough to almost make him drool, the venom-laced saliva filling his mouth as he watched Izuku rub his cheek against the soft fabric and purr.
So yeah, maybe he was moving quickly, but Katsuki had known for a long time that he loved Izuku, that he wanted him and hoped he was wanted in return. So if that meant skipping right to this step in courting, well, if it got him a yes then it would be worth it.
His parents had been supportive, more than ready to cosign for him even though what he’d made during his time interning over the last few years was more than enough for a down payment. The old hag especially had been excited at his decision, crowing something about a bet or some other bullshit. He’d even put his idiots to work, exchanging study sessions for help sorting through listings to find the perfect place. Thankfully he had; it’d been Mina to actually find the apartment that’d been put up for sale, slamming the printout down excitedly on the table they’d set up in Kirishima’s bedroom (like hell they were allowed in his).
“This place is, at max, a twenty minute train ride from the furthest of the agencies you applied to, and only a ten minute walk from two of the ones he did. The kitchen is huge, two baths, three bedrooms - the master for you two, a guest, and an office when you have to bring paperwork home. You can also keep his collection to the guest and office, so you won’t have to fall asleep staring at All Might’s face every night. An in-unit washer and dryer, a balcony to eat on, a living room you can host both the squads in; come on, Blasty, trust me,” Mina had finished with a smirk, crossing her arms across her chest. “He’s going to love it. It’s perfect.”
And, begrudgingly, she was right. The walkthrough had taken forever, the entire pack insisting on coming with him to check the place out, though it’d been nice to see exactly how much space they all had to sprawl. The more they’d examined the place, harassing the realtor with their litany of questions, the more he could imagine himself and Izuku here. Living there, eating breakfast and dinner before and after work, cuddling on some couch, cooking together, maybe a brat or two or twelve before they had to find somewhere larger. It was a good place to start, and just like he knew Izuku was his, he knew this was too.
It was surprisingly easy for a newly eighteen-year-old soon to be sidekick to get a mortgage, but hey. He wasn’t going to complain. It was on the pricier side, but he knew with the notoriety they’d all gained from taking down the LOV, it wouldn’t take long for him to be able to afford it outright. Even with the Commission's restructuring, with more villains being sent to rehab and therapy than jail, a hero’s pay in the upper ranks was still hefty, and the merch sales alone from the fans biting at the bit to buy a toy or a knock off of his mask wasn’t anything to sneeze at. So the papers were signed, the keys handed over, and the place was his.
His and Izuku’s.
He didn’t buy much; he knew the nerd would want to have a hand in that, and even if this was an old ass custom, he wanted Izuku to have some say at least. He did get them a bed, bringing Pink Cheeks in on the deal so she could help him move the damn thing into place without breaking his back. Though, whether or not dealing with her squealing for a whole hour had been worth it was still up in the air. Some cooking shit, so he could make them a few meals whenever they were there. And nesting shit. Everything he’d read had been clear on that, that Izuku would build the nest, but he had to provide the materials.
A week after he got everything set up, it took almost an hour to convince Izuku to leave the dorms, promising him crepes and extra training and all the notes he’d gathered from the others in the class to pry him away from the books. Even high up in the class rankings, Izuku was still worried about the upcoming tests, scared that his hours of studying wouldn’t be enough to let him pass. A joke, really, but still something the nerd worried about. But with all the promises, as well as a pocket sized guide that Katsuki gave him to keep him entertained on the train, soon enough he was guiding his distracted love into the elevator, enjoying his obliviousness as, for the first time, he actually asked where they were going.
“You’ll see.” Katsuki flashed him a smile as he held up the key, ignoring Izuku’s protests as he just walked into the apartment, one of two on the floor. Strolling in, he started pulling things from the fridge; luckily he had everything needed to make crepes, and had placed an order for fresh fruit on the train.
For a long moment he heard nothing, trying to ignore the lack of sound when he’d expected at least a flurry of questions. He knew Izuku could smell them; he’d thoroughly scented the place after everything had been brought in, had stolen some of Izuku’s clothes and brought them over so his own smell could spread. It was so clearly theirs, despite this being the first time Izuku had ever been there. Finally, soft footsteps began to make their way through the apartment, a peek of green in the corner of his eye as he cooked, small noises of approval reaching his ears as each door was opened and closed, a chirp of happiness at the sight of the bedroom and the pile of blankets and pillows, a hum of interest as he considered the signs Katsuki had put up to give him something to imagine.
He was just plating the first of the crepes when strong arms wrapped around his waist, Izuku’s face burying in between his shoulder blades. “You know,” he said, his voice muffled but clearly please, “most people don’t give a den as a courting gift until after a few years, not a month and a half.”
“I’m an enigma,” Katsuki snorted. “There’s literally three of us currently alive. You’re the one of a kind holder of One for All. We don’t count as ‘most.’”
“You know what this means, right? What it implies,” Izuku asked, pulling away. Katsuki turned just as Izuku was wrapping his arms around himself, his eyes looking everywhere except Katsuki. Katsuki knew; he’d done his research, knew all the implications giving this kind of gift made. Reaching out, he pulled Izuku into his arms, nuzzling at his scent gland, relaxing into the smell of the man he hoped would agree to be his.
“I do. What do you say?”
Izuku kissed him, long and slow and sweet, barely even a kiss at all with how much he was smiling by the time they pulled away from each other.
“I say yes, Kacchan. I’ll marry you.”

USAF F-35 Demonstration Team announces new pilot and commander
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 03/02/2024 - 08:30 in Demonstration Squads, Military
U.S. Air Force Captain Melanie "MACH" Kluesner, pilot of the F-35A Lightning II assigned to the 421º Fighter Squadron, became the new certified pilot and commander of the F-35A Demonstration Team, during the Heritage Flight Training Course of the Air Combat Command at Davis-Monthan Air Base, Arizona, on March 1º, 2024.
Kluesner comes from a military family and was inspired from a very young age by her parents, both U.S. Air Force pilots, to become a fighter pilot.

(Photo: U.S. Air Force / 1st Lt. Nathan Poblete)
“When I was a child, I really appreciated my parents, family and friends who believed in me and encouraged me to follow my dream of becoming a fighter pilot,” Kluesner said. "My father was a demonstration pilot of the Pacific Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon in the 1980s and my mother was the first class of women graduated from the Air Force Academy. She graduated in pilot training as a qualified hunter, but at that time women were not allowed to pilot fighters. My parents are a great inspiration to me and have incredible stories of their careers."

After graduating from the University of Southern California, Kluesner was commissioned with the U.S. Air Force in 2014. She is a veteran combat fighter pilot with more than 1,000 hours of experience in a variety of aircraft, including the T-6A Texan II, T-38 Talon, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-35B and F-35A Lightning II.
Tumblr media
"It was a long way to get where I am and there is nothing more rewarding than doing a job you love for something that is bigger than yourself," Kluesner said. "To be the demonstration pilot means spreading this message to the next generation and I am very excited for the start of the air show season."
Tumblr media
The commander of the F-35A Demonstration Team is not only responsible for an itinerant team of 14 maintainers and support personnel, but also reinforces the team's mission around the world each year, showing the F-35's combat capabilities and its unique experiences to recruit, retain and inspire thousands of spectators in each air show.
"I think it's very important for people to realize that if you want to be a fighter pilot or serve in the Air Force, it doesn't matter how you look or if you fit the specific mold," Kluesner explained. "What matters is to be willing to remain disciplined, work hard, work as a team and worry about serving your country. I am honored to be in this position and I hope that everyone who watches the demonstration will feel inspired to dream big, just as I was when I was a child."

NAME. Sebastian West AGE & BIRTH DATE. 34 & August 16th, 1988 GENDER & PRONOUNS. Male & He/Him SPECIES. Human AFFILIATION. The Eye (Military Division) OCCUPATION. Overseer at The Eye FACE CLAIM. Theo James
BIOGRAPHY
( tw: war, IED injury, PTSD) Sebastian’s family followed the usual military pattern. Like clockwork, his mother and father relocated every few years, uprooting their lives to serve Queen and country. Making new friends and establishing routines wasn’t easy, but Sebastian believed his parents were saving the world. Applying to the British Armed Forces at 15 years and nine months, the earliest an aspiring soldier can enlist with parental permission, he was promptly snagged up by a recruiting officer near their home in South London. Sebastian dutifully completed his studies while training at the Army Foundation College and was placed with the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment two weeks after his 18th birthday.
Each deployment consisted of months of drills, playing golf in the sand, writing letters, football, freezing at night, burning during the day, and then several hours of pure horror. A triggered explosion, a friend missing both their legs, sleeping with one eye open, running as fast as humanly possible, another civilian casualty, this time a child, a neighbour squad ripped in half by enemy fire. Nothing could’ve prepared the legacy gunner for the realities of war.
Specially trained in close combat and regarded for his indomitable determination during complex engagements, Sebastian ascended 1PWRR’s ranks in the crossroads of Central and South Asia. As his reputation grew, so did the weight of his conscience. Hypervigilance, flashbacks, insomnia, agitation, headaches… he knew teammates on the reserve with post-traumatic stress disorder, soldiers emotionally and morally scarred, but experiencing it first-hand was debilitating. He’d witnessed too many innocent people displaced or killed, their lives destroyed by foreign artillery and western corruption. After almost ten years of active service, Sebastian had had enough.
Before completing his final tour, Sebastian was approached by a clandestine agency. They called themselves the Eye, but he didn’t care what name they went by, so long as his plans to leave remained unchanged. Granted an honourable discharge, Sebastian accepted the opportunity to preserve human life on a new front line and relocated to Europe. It was among an international guild of hunters that he discovered the real truth. Monsters existed. Vampires, fey, witches, lycans and demons—these things stalked the streets, feeding and manipulating indiscriminately, and he could stop them. Newly motivated, Sebastian completed the Eye’s rigorous induction training and mastered their weapons in record time. After years of moving from place to place, he learnt everything he needed from established members, kept his head down and got the work done.
When the time came to plant his boots in Rome, Sebastian did so proudly. As the overseer of the Outpost, he decided reform was needed. For too long, the hunters of Rome worked as single entities. Military strategy used presence, equipment, and information against opponents to gain preeminence, but teamwork was imperative. It took time, but Sebastian formed groups of elite tactical units. In combination with state-of-the-art intelligence, he successfully established operational omnipresence—the ability to be everywhere at once.

camping and annual leave in the sith empire
One of the interesting differences between the Empire and the Republic is that while Coruscant is an ecumenopolis on Dromund Kaas the Riverfall Wilds sit alongside Kaas City. While Dromund Kaas has been a settled industrialised planet for a shorter time than Coruscant, keeping a verdant patch of yozusk habitat right next to their capital suggests Imperials have an appreciation for natural landscapes which may seem at odds with the highly regimented structure of the Empire and its willingness engage in planetary bombardment.
This isn’t because Imperials are environmentalists (though there is a cultural flow on both from keeping large proportions of land as reserves and the impulse to dunk on other people for eradicating their own planets’ biospheres). It is a manifestation of the Empire’s paranoia about facing another genocide. Ecumenopoleis are dependent on infrastructure like air-scrubbers to remain habitable and are fundamentally incapable of producing enough food for their population. If they are attacked and their air-scrubbers are destroyed or blockaded and cut off from their food imports they are screwed. Nature reserves act as dispersed air-scrubbers or can be turned over to agriculture in a pinch.
Most Imperial reserves aren’t kept pristine or untouched, and in the case of those which are it’s often by the efforts of highly aggressive local Sith Spawn. Reserves see a constant stream of visitors in addition to the smattering of full-time residents; campers, hunters, the Imperial Reclamation Service, scientists, escaped slaves, and tuk’ata fanciers for example.
In another example of post-genocide paranoia, it is basically the official policy of the Sith Empire that a certain percentage of its citizenship must be away on a camping vacation at any given time. State entities and private employers are legally required to grant and ensure the use of a minimum number of days of annual paid leave to facilitate this camping. In the event that the Republic invades the Sith Worlds again these campers will survive the bombardment of the population centres and rebuild the Empire.
Annual leave cannot be used as emergency leave because it must be applied for at least twenty-eight working days in advance. Potentially it can be used as extra parental leave or medical leave in the event of a long illness, but you will have to suffer through jokes about how you’re planning to transport your baby/kolto tank cross-country.
Wilderness camping is a staple of Imperial culture. Some extended families will have their reunions at the same campsite generation after generation. Imperial students will go on at least one school hiking trip as part of their general education. Squads on planet-side leave will head off one multi-day bushwalks together; this is one of the reasons why the Imperial Military designed Reaver Station to accommodate off-duty personnel rather than let them off planet-side – sure there’s a risk they might desert but there’s also a risk they might go camping. During the invasion of Alderaan the Empire once lost a position they would have been able to defend if they could have called in a couple of off-duty Special Forces units, but couldn’t because the Special Forces units were halfway up a mountain.
Camping is an accepted way of escaping the pressure, surveillance, and regimentation of regular life. It’s also an opportunity to practice viscerally satisfying survival skills like fishing, cooking with open fires, and berry picking.
There is a whole genre of children’s literature built around it. On my camping holiday we discovered; a lost temple, a hidden outpost of Republic spies, mushrooms thieves, the spirit of Imperial courage and perseverance, and/or the magical tuk’ata which shall be our best friend forever :)
Of course, all the shiny new Imperial citizens from the possessions gained in the Great Galactic War don’t feel the same way about it. I have four weeks of paid leave that I could use to visit friends and relatives off world, or vacation on Zeltron, or spend peacefully at home trying out new recipes and you want me to go pitch a tent in a swamp? (All of the people who lost their citizenships and their freedom after being invaded: I use to have holidays :( )

Mister Mind came to Earth during World War II, drawn by its radio broadcasts; he especially loved Edgar Bergen's dummy Charlie McCarthy. Upon learning that his beloved Charlie was not real, he decided to conquer the world instead. To this end, he formed the first Monster Society of Evil, which was merely a shadow of what was to come. He gathered known villains like Dummy, Mister Who, Nyola, Oom the Mighty, and Ramulus to make up the Monster Society of Evil. They succeeded in capturing Hawkgirl. Not long after its founding, the other villains tried to kill him and Mister Mind retreated to Earth-S. Without his leadership, the team was quickly defeated in battle by the All-Star Squadron.[7]
Captain Marvel Adventures: "The Monster Society of Evil" (Earth-S)Edit
As a side-effect of the reality-altering Crisis on Infinite Earths, Mister Mind arrived in the universe of Earth-S (where Fawcett's former characters dwelled) sometime around 1846 (it was mentioned in this story that he had been working on a weapon for 97 years). His brilliant intellect, telepathic powers, and ruthlessness allowed him to conquer much of space, establishing bases on many different worlds as well as varied locations on Earth. He recruited supervillains, armies, and entire alien species to aid him in his attempt to conquer the Earth, and first relayed his information from the planetoid Punkus via radio. He began his reign of terror on Earth in 1943, boasting that he and the Monster Society of Evil would give Captain Marvel "nightmares from now on". This formed the basis of the plot for "The Monster Society of Evil" serial in Captain Marvel Adventures #22–46 (March 1943 to May 1945). Mind was not revealed as a worm until Captain Marvel Adventures #26.
Mind had many and varied plans to conquer Earth, and to destroy Captain Marvel and/or his teenaged alter-ego, Billy Batson. But Captain Marvel stopped all of Mind's plans, dismantled all of his resources, and arrested, frightened away, or accidentally killed all of his henchmen. Reverse cliffhangers were used in the Monster Society stories, such as Mister Mind about to be crushed under a careless heel or about to be crushed in a paper roller. Finally, a desperate Mister Mind attacked Captain Marvel's alter ego Billy Batson with ether and left him unconscious. But he then realized that without his henchmen, he was practically helpless and unable to kill him. Captain Marvel soon captured the world's wickedest worm and had him tried and executed for killing 186,744 people.
Shazam!: Return of the SocietyEdit
Shazam! #2 was Mister Mind's first appearance in a DC comic, and depicted his return to villainy. Although he had been sentenced to death in the electric chair, Mister Mind's alien physiology proved resistant to the high voltage, and he entered a state of suspended animation that was mistaken for death. On the verge of being stuffed for display in a museum, he awakened, hypnotized the taxidermist into creating a duplicate, and escaped.
Shortly after Captain Marvel's own return from suspended animation, he countered Mister Mind trying to destroy the country with an expanding balloon-like weapon in St. Louis. With intelligence from a reformed Herkimer, Marvel succeeds in thwarting Mind's plan and capturing the worm.[8]
Several future issues of Shazam! depict Mister Mind attempting to recruit new henchmen and reform the Monster Society of Evil, at one point even recruiting a displaced Lex Luthor from Earth-One.[9] The Monster Society of Evil was briefly reformed in Shazam! #14 (September–October 1974).
An escaped Mister Mind, hungry for revenge, assembled a new, smaller group which included Doctor Sivana, his evil children Georgia and Sivana Jr, and Ibac. They attempted to attack the Marvel Family - Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, and Captain Marvel Jr. - with a death ray that created "dream" monsters using first evil thoughts and later the nightmares of Uncle Marvel. The Marvels end up defeating the Monster Society by convincing Uncle Marvel to dream up "dream" versions of the Marvels to fight the monsters.
World's Finest Comics: The Monster Society Strikes BackEdit
Mister Mind reformed his Monster Society of Evil one last time in the classic continuity, in World's Finest Comics #264–267 (August–September 1980 to February–March 1981). Almost the entire Marvel Family had to unite in order to stop them—Captain Marvel, Mary Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr., and the three Lieutenant Marvels: Tall Marvel, Fat Marvel, and Hill Marvel. Their wicked plans were wide-ranging, beginning with an assault on Egypt, expanding to a scheme to reverse the entire Earth's topography, Oggar raising an evil army from the sands and dusts of Egypt for Black Adam to lead, and conquering hundreds of planets and using them to build an army of spaceships. Their plans culminated in a massive assault on the Rock of Eternity, home of the Marvels' benefactor, the wizard Shazam.
World's FunnestEdit
In the Elseworlds story Superman & Batman: World's Funnest (November 2000), the two near-omnipotent imps Mister Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite engage in a tremendous duel that destroys many planes of reality. One of these appears to be a version of Earth-S. During their time there, they run into a version of the Monster Society of Evil that is slightly different from any other, featuring many of Captain Marvel's enemies. Mxyzptlk easily destroys them (with a tentacled beast labeled Mr. Mxyzptlk's Anti-Social Monster) when they begin to annoy him, along with the rest of the universe; however, by the end of the book, all is returned to what it was.
Post-CrisisEdit
Shazam! A New BeginningEdit
Mister Mind's return to the DC Universe in wake of Crisis was first hinted at in Roy Thomas' Shazam! A New Beginning. It closed with a defeated Dr. Sivana hiding out and drinking tequila in a Mexican dive bar. He ponders how he will defeat Captain Marvel when he sees a worm in the bottle and has the idea of using it as a weapon against the hero.
Thomas' idea of Mister Mind being a mutated tequila worm was not followed up on and he was given a different origin in his next appearance.
The Power of Shazam!Edit
Mister Mind was fully re-introduced into the DC Universe in Jerry Ordway's The Power of Shazam! series in 1996. Mind was one of a race of millions of mind-controlling worms from the planet Venus, who had plans to invade and take over the Earth, which they claim to have once ruled around the Ice Age. Appointed as the go-ahead agent, Mind arrived on Earth during World War II, by means of an indestructible green Venusian space suit, but was captured by Bulletman, Starman, and Green Lantern Abin Sur before enacting his plan. Mind eventually escaped, stowing away on the Magellan space probe, and decades later forced Doctor Sivana to join forces with him, needing Sivana's scientific prowess to facilitate the Venusian worms' plans. He took control of the wealthy Sinclair Batson in order to finance those plans.
The worms' plans to invade the Earth were thwarted by Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel, who succeeded in killing all of the worms by sending them into deep space where they froze, save for Mister Mind, whom they placed in the custody of Sergeant Steel and the Department of Metahuman Affairs. Mind eventually escapes, takes over Steel's mind, and programs the robot Mister Atom, another Marvel Family villain in Steel's custody, to destroy the town of Fairfield, where Billy Batson (Captain Marvel) and Mary Bromfield (Mary Marvel) lived with their adopted parents. After Mister Atom's nuclear blast destroys the city and kills nearly all of its residents, the Marvels arrive in Washington, DC seeking revenge. Mister Mind's plot to set off a nuclear holocaust included using clones of himself to take over the minds of several regular American citizens, who were to make their ways to nuclear bomb facilities and initiate a nuclear holocaust. However, Mind's plan was foiled by the Marvel Family and Green Lanterns Kyle Rayner and Hal Jordan.
52Edit
Mister Mind played an integral role in DC's year-long 2006-2007 weekly comic, 52, although the importance of his role in the series was revealed gradually over time and involved the concepts of time travel and temporal paradoxes.
The day following the end of the Infinite Crisis event, Dr. Sivana discovers Mister Mind lying in a crater in the desert and pockets him, sealing him in a specimen jar and taking it back to his laboratory to prevent him from interfering with his plans to take over the world.[10] Sivana bombards Mind with particles of Suspendium, a time-altering element introduced in the 1970s Shazam! title. Although Sivana is then kidnapped by Intergang and forced to join their Science Squad, the Suspendium induces Mister Mind's delayed metamorphosis. As Sivana is dragged off, Mind observes a televised memorial for the heroes lost in the Infinite Crisis, and takes particular note of Skeets, the robotic companion of the time-traveling superhero Booster Gold.[11] With his metamorphosis beginning, Mind proceeds to weave a cocoon around himself, which doubles as a matter transporter that he uses to beam himself inside Skeets in Dr. Magnus' lab,[12][13] intending to use the robot as a "cradle" where he can spend the following year gestating and completing his transformation.
Destroying Skeets from within, Mind adopts his identity and makes plans to consume the Multiverse, which had returned to existence as a result of Infinite Crisis. Discovering that Rip Hunter is aware of his plans, Mind, as Skeets, attempts to hunt him down and draw him out, to no avail. Eventually, he discovers Hunter hiding in the bottle city of Kandor, but when Hunter turns the Phantom Zone projector on him, Mind overpowers it and "eats" the Phantom Zone itself. At the end of the year, Mind tracks Hunter and Booster down to the lab of T. O. Morrow, intent on acquiring the head of the Red Tornado, whose computerized brain has mapped the Multiverse.[14] There, Mind's gestation completes and he emerges from within Skeets in a monstrous imago form known as a "Hyperfly". Now, instead of feeding on the brainwaves of individuals, he feeds on space-time itself and decides to devour the entire Multiverse.[15] Booster and Hunter flee back in time to the moment of the Multiverse's birth, with the now-gigantic Mind in pursuit, following them from universe to universe, all 52 of them, where he consumes portions of each world's history, altering their timelines and creating 52 new, distinct Earths.[16] Mind is lured back to Hunter's lab, where he shrinks in size and becomes trapped within Skeets' Suspendium-lined shell.[17] Booster hurls Mind backwards through time, where the Suspendium reverts Mind back to his larval form, and lands on the day after the end of Infinite Crisis, where he is found by Dr. Sivana and sealed in the jar. The remaining 52 seconds of time are used to bind him in a time loop.[18]
Also during the series, unrelated to Mind's activities, a new incarnation of the Monster Society was formed, consisting of the Four Horsemen of Apokolips, creatures engineered by Intergang's Science Squad (including Sivana). Of particular note is Sobek, a humanoid crocodile not unlike the beings who were members of the Pre-Crisis Monster Society. This Monster Society attacked the Black Marvel Family for not joining the Freedom of Power treaty, and killed Isis and Osiris, only to be destroyed by Black Adam, save for Death, who flees. In his hunt for Death, Black Adam destroys the nation of Bialya, before defeating the final Horseman, torturing it for information, and killing it.[19]
Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil (2007)Edit
A new Captain Marvel prestige format four-issue limited series from DC Comics, Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil, written and illustrated by Jeff Smith (creator of Bone) began publication on February 7, 2007. Smith's Shazam! miniseries, in the works since 2003, is a more traditional take on the character, returning Captain Marvel to his roots with a story set outside of the DC Universe. In this version, Mister Mind resembles a small snake, with a more threatening face sans glasses, while wearing a modern style communicator headset. Many different monsters are shown in the Society, with the Crocodile-Men being replaced with the Alligator-Men.
The New 52Edit
In September 2011, The New 52 rebooted DC's continuity. In this new timeline, Mister Mind makes his first appearance after Doctor Sivana's alliance with Black Adam fails. Sivana heads to the Rock of Eternity, where he cannot get in because of a magical shield. He cries out for someone to help him save his family, saying that while science has failed them, magic could save them. Sivana then discovers a caterpillar-like creature trapped in a bottle within the Rock. The creature claims that people call him "Mister Mind" and makes note that he and Doctor Sivana shall be the "best of friends".[20]
DC RebirthEdit
Mister Mind returns in the new Shazam! series during the "DC Rebirth," still in an alliance with Sivana. Residing inside of Sivana's ear, Mister Mind has Sivana go to a doctor's office in order to cut out the tongue of a "medicine man" as it is needed for a spell. It is revealed that Mister Mind's real name is Maxivermis Mind and is believed to have originated from the Wildlands, one of the seven realms in the Magiclands. Believed to originally be a simple bookworm, Mister Mind suffered abuse as a child and tried for years to break into the Library of Eternity. He eventually succeeded and after absorbing all the knowledge and power of countless spells, he returned to the Wildlands and took his revenge on those who he believed had wronged him. Achieving his revenge, he set his sights on the Council of Eternity. He managed to work his way inside the Council and it took the combined might of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, Mercury, and ! to contain Mister Mind, but he was able to cause the death of Solomon. Mind's goal is to consume and control all the power of the Magiclands.[21]
Mister Mind and Doctor Sivana plan to head to the Monsterlands in order to build the Monster Society of Evil from its inhabitants. As King Kid fights the Shazam Family in Philadelphia, Doctor Sivana and Mister Mind are directed to a boat by Dummy who cannot accompany them since he cannot deal with water. When they arrive at the Dungeon of Eternity, Mister Mind states that the inmates of the Dungeon of Eternity were gathered from all over the Magiclands and imprisoned for challenging the Council of Wizards. In addition, Mister Mind stated that the Monsterlands used to be called the Gods' Realm until the day of Black Adam's betrayal which led them to strip the gods of their powers and close the doors to the Magiclands. They find a small prison containing Superboy-Prime in the Monsterlands as Superboy-Prime states that he can hear what Mister Mind is saying. Mister Mind and Doctor Sivana begin their plans to free the Monster Society of Evil from the Dungeon of Eternity.[22]
Mister Mind senses the fight between the Shazam Family and Mamaragan as he instructs Doctor Sivana to stab his magical eye with a dagger which starts to melt the doors to the cells holding the Monster Society of Evil. Then Mister Mind started to control C.C. revealing to Billy that he is using him as a host and not Doctor Sivana. Mister Mind states to the Shazam Family that he plans to use C.C. to unite the Magiclands under his rule. He then proceeds to summon the Monster Society of Evil leaving Dummy behind who is tricked by Superboy-Prime into freeing him.[23] Shazam faces off against a Mister Mind-controlled C.C. Batson while the others fight the Monster Society of Evil. During the fight, Scapegoat and Red Queen ask when they are going to get a turn. Mister Mind states that they will get their chance when the Magiclands are united.
Mister Mind states to Shazam that it took him and Doctor Sivana awhile to find C.C. Batson. When Doctor Sivana uses a spell on Victor and Rosa Vasquez to get what Mister Mind wants, Shazam asks what that is. Speaking through C.C., Mister Mind states that he wants what Mamaragan and his Council of Wizards denied him years ago....access to the magic of the Seven Magiclands. When Tawky Tawny tries to help Shazam, Mister Mind has C.C. turn him into a cub. Then he has Doctor Sivana summon the Book of Champions from the Rock of Eternity. Mister Mind then has Shazam read the spells on the pages in exchange for sparing Victor and Rosa. Complying with Mister Mind, Shazam reads "Seven lands. Seven wars. Seven locks. Seven doors. Magic realms hidden now, show yourself to the Champion and with one final word, the spell is complete! SHAZAM!"
This causes all the doorways to the Seven Magiclands to be unlocked and obliterated. Using a spell from the Book of Champions, Shazam shrinks himself with the Subtraxerim spell and enters C.C.'s head to confront Mister Mind.[24] Shazam confronts Mister Mind inside C.C.'s head and engages him in a magic battle. To prevent Mister Mind from casting spells, Shazam punches his talkbox enough to emit energy that knocks out the Monster Society of Evil. After using the Corpus Magnum spell to grow, Shazam works to undo Mister Mind's spell only for Superboy-Prime to interfere. He was able to undo the spell after he and Black Adam defeated Superboy-Prime.[25]

We find out Coach lost a testicle to exposure And he wants the team to help in the search and rescue
Scott and Stiles talk to Jackson about their fear that she’s turning He is unconcerned
Ugh, Harris
Jackson gets a nosebleed during a pop quiz It’s black He is reasonably panicked
And Derek is in the boys room intimidating Jackson
“If something’s wrong I need to know. You’re with me now.”
he’s trying to be a good dad also not wearing his leather jacket it’s a nice grey wool coat I approve of the adulting
and now Jackson’s ear is bleeding that’s what you get for trying to be an independent werewolf and being an asshole
“What is it? What’s happening.” “You’re body’s fighting the bite.” “why?” “I don’t know” “what does it mean?”
and he backs away slowly with a ‘I done fucked up’ look cause things happened that are painful and that we don’t know about yet!!! Derek doesn’t want death on his hands and look what’s happening
Cute note Scotty
Ugh Matt
Is that the same gossiping girl from the pilot? They’re talking about Kate being crazy
She doesn’t want to go to the funeral And Scott is being amazingly understanding He promises to be there
Her chunky ring is great
Stiles has detention Because harris is the worst And he’s taking out his beef with the Sheriff on stiles
The funeral is a cluster fuck  Victoria is in her boss ass fur coat
“He can deal with this when he gets here”
Matt sneaks under the barricade to take pictures of Allison Gerard breaks his memory card
“Christopher” “Gerard”
And they awkwardly hug
Stiles pops up out of nowhere to hide with Scott behind a gravestone and watch
“I haven’t seen you since you were three”
He tells her that he’d prefer grandpa but she can call him Gerard
“I know what they are. They’re reinforcements”
Stilinski drags Scott and Stiles to a squad car An ambulance with a heart attack victim was attacked and there is blood everywhere
Stiles really needs Scott to find Lydia He’s got so many emotions tied up in her and he’s really worried
Again with the werewolf run? Scott fights the omega
Lydia finds her way to the ambulance scene
“Well is anyone gonna get me a coat?”
Stiles can’t handle her being naked
The omega gets snared while Scott’s chasing him offering to help Derek interferes and keeps Scott from helping him because the hunters have shown up There’s at least six of them Including Chris  Derek is holding onto Scott like he’s really worried
The Omega came looking for the alpha Just like a certain supposed to be dead Cora He says he never hurt anyone living The guy in the ambulance was dead
Gerard lays out what an Omega is And then gets a fucking broadsword Chris doesn’t look to pleased at that
Scott is freaking out and Derek makes him look
“Look! look! Look! Do you see what they do? This is why you need me. Why we need each other. The only way to fight them is together.” “What are they doing” “Declaring war”
“We have a code” “Not when they murder my daughter”
Jackson is coughing up blood alone in his room Where’ are his parents? Why adopt a kid and then let him flounder like this? Or does he just put on an amazing front?
Isaac finds Derek in the subway depot
“We find them we kill them. We kill them all.”
Chris is making serious but face
Isaac’s a good first choice of a beta. He needs Derek more than Derek needs him. And he’s probably willing to ignore the hunter issue for a chance to get away from his father.
I’m thinking there’s maybe a week and a half between Kate dying and Gerard showing up. But they make it seem like at least a month
End episode one

Partners in Crime Chapter Seven
Notes: Brigham Sinclair and Detective Lovato are both from CSI: NY (I have been on a huge CSI NY binge as of late). Syndel Okaia is an OC and Detective Morse....well....y’all gotta guess that one ;)
Tag Squad: @riottstheory @thirst-n-bullshit
A few days later, the two Austins, Raul, and Jake were called to a meeting with Stephanie and Hunter. Raul and Jake, both armed to the teeth, escorted the two Austins to the McMahon Family Corporation Headquarters. The four stepped into the office to see that there were more than just Stephanie and Hunter in there. With them was an African American man dressed in a suit.
“Who is he?” Jake asked, placing a hand on his concealed gun.
“Jake, Raul, this is Brigham Sinclair, he’s the NYPD Chief of Detectives,” Hunter said.
“Not that I’m really here willingly,” Sinclair muttered. Stephanie shot him a look.
“Why is he here?” Austin T asked. Stephanie sighed.
“Sinclair owes our family for helping him out a number of years ago when some...allegations about him harassing a clerk of his. He hired a woman named Ann Steele to ‘fix’ it and she did, by asking us to make her quiet. We did,” She explained.
“Did you guys kill the clerk or whatever?” Austin F asked.
“No, we just threatened her,” Hunter said calmly. Austin F blinked at Sinclair cleared his throat.
“What am I doing here anyways?” He asked.
“The people who have been killed with the symbol of an A and a W, they’ve been killed by the Elite. We are going to…..deal with some of their members, and we need you to have your detectives look the other way,” Hunter said. Sinclair looked unhappy but nodded.
“Fine, whatever. Can I go now?” He asked.
“You may,” Stephanie said. Sinclair got up, leaving. Once he was out of the room, Jake and Raul turned to their bosses.
“What if he doesn’t have his detectives look away?” Jake asked.
“We have a second plan,” Hunter said.
“Who is this second plan?” Austin T asked skeptically. There was a knock at the door and Stephanie smiled.
“Come in,” she called. The door opened and an older woman, maybe mid or late 40s, walked in. She had white hair, though there was a stripe of dark grey right down the middle. The woman held herself with an air of regality, and was dressed in a royal purple pant suit.
“Who the hell are you?” Austin F asked, narrowing her eyes in suspicion.
“This is Syndel Okaia, she works for the New York District Attorney’s office and is a friend of our family,” Stephanie said.
“Why is she here?” Austin T asked, looking unsure. Syndel looked at her, the expression on the Asian woman kindly.
“My family and I will keep the police off of your backs,” she said, “I’m a prosecutor. My husband, Kenshi, is the captain of the Brooklyn Special Victims Unit. Our daughter, Jade, is a detective with him while our son, Takeda, is currently in law school. In addition, our daughter-in-law is part of the NYPD’s Crime Scene Unit, so she is hands on with the crime scenes and evidence. The four of us will keep suspicion from all of you.”
“Why? Why would you do this for us?” Austin T asked, frowning.
“Because Stephanie and Hunter are friends of my family. They trust you, or at least have faith in you, so my family will help you,” Syndel said, “While my family and I may share names with Mortal Kombat characters, we are not like them.”
“Did Syndel just make a Mortal Kombat joke?” Stephanie said with a laugh. Syndel gave her a glare, though her expression was amused.
“You know how my family and I feel about the….retcon from MK11.”
“Yes,” Stephanie smiled, “We all know.” Syndel chuckled and looked back at the two Austins.
“Any more questions?” She asked. The two shook their heads and Syndel nodded.
“I will see you later,” she looked at Stephanie and Hunter, who both nodded. The white haired prosecutor headed out. Once the door was shut once more, Stephanie and Hunter looked at the two Austins.
“Now,” Hunter said, “How have you two been settling?”
“Pretty good,” Austin F said.
“Jake and Raul said you two kind of keep to yourselves?” Stephanie said gently.
“It’s not that we don’t trust you, it’s just that we only truly trust each other,” Austin T said.
“Why is that?” Stephanie asked softly.
“I guess…I guess it’s because of our past,” Austin F said with a sigh.
“What about your past?” Hunter asked. Austin T and Austin F exchanged a look before the two sighed.
“So I was raised originally by my grandparents as my mom was into drugs and stuff, never even knew my dad. But my grandparents were on the older end. When I was six, there was an accident and my grandpa was injured badly. Because of that, I was put into foster care,” Austin F said.
“Mine is similar,” Austin T said, “I never knew my parents, though. Apparently they were both into drugs and shit, I had been a ward of the state since I was a baby. I met the other Austin when I was four.”
“We were in the same foster home, even if it wasn’t a great one. We became close, really close. Siblings, pretty much. When I ran away when I was sixteen, he followed,” Austin F said. Stephanie and Hunter nodded.
“I…that’s a hell of a story,” Hunter said. Austin T nodded while Austin F just looked down at her shoes.
“Do you have anything else for them?” Raul asked, a protective look crossing over his face. Stephanie and Hunter exchanged a look before nodding.
“No, we are good for now,” Hunter said. Jake and Raul nodded before ushering the two Austins out.
Austin T reached over and squeezed Austin F’s hand, smiling at his sister. Austin F smiled back instinctively. Despite everything, the two were always going to be there for each other.
When the four arrived back at their apartment, they found two people waiting outside the door. One was a tall, blonde woman while the other was a shorter woman with dark hair and darker skin.
“Hello, may we help you?” Jake stepped up in front of the others.
“I’m Detective Morse, this is Detective Lovato, we’re with the NYPD,” the blonde woman said, “We would like to talk to Austin Flynn and Austin Theory about the murder of Robert Stone.” The two Austins stiffened at that, knowing that it was their black market seller who was murdered by the Elite.

Toonami Weekly Recap 8/31/2019
Dr. Stone EP#02 - King of the Stone World: Senku and Taiju prepare enough revival fluid to free one person from stone, with Taiju choosing Yuzuriha to be first subject. However, they are suddenly chased by hungry lions, leading them to instead revive the strongest fighter in their school, Tsukasa Shishio, to fight them off. As Tsukasa proves to be a valuable hunter, providing food for the trio, Senku assigns Taiju with harvesting seashells and grind them into calcium carbonate as a first step towards advancing civilization. However, Tsukasa reveals to Senku his intention to murder petrified humans in order to create a world free of corrupt adults, clashing with Senku's ideals of reviving everyone.
gen:LOCK EP#05 - The Best Defense: The team continues training, despite Cammie's trauma from the attack in Dallas and Julian's concerns about her and the fact that they do not know what the Union mech was. Cammie's frustration with her lack of improvement leads her to alter her own confidence and aggression settings during a training session, leading her to have a psychotic episode during a sparring match with Kazu. The team tries to cheer her up, revealing that they all have a shared nightmare of themselves in place of their Holon units in battle, and assuring Cammie that they will support her in their next fight. Colonel Marin briefs the gen:LOCK team and the Vanguard pilots about a mission to a Union manufacturing base in Atlanta, their first offensive attack in some time, despite Dr. Weller's concerns about dispatching them so quickly. Julian and Miranda discuss him returning to the Vanguard, which he shows reluctance to doing. The team is given additional upgrades by Dr. Weller (a sword for Kazu, a new rifle for Valentina, wrist-mounted lasers for Yasamin, and targeting drones for Cammie), while Migas reveals to Julian he upgraded his Holon to include wings for aerial combat, to Julian's delight. The mission is briefly complicated by the arrival of some Polity scientists taken hostage by the Union. The gen:LOCK team successfully rescues the scientists and destroys the base, but their exit is blocked by the return of the Union mech, which strangely recognizes Miranda and speaks in Julian's voice before targeting him specifically. After a vicious fight, the mech escapes, leaving Julian confused.
Fire Force (VS. Special Fire Force Company 5 Arc) EP#06 - The Spark of Promise: Hibana reminds Iris of the time when the nuns and children at heir orphanage were engulfed in flames and Hibana's third-generation powers manifested themselves. Shinra attacks her, but Hibana uses her heat syncope power to lower his blood pressure, incapacitating him. By strength of will alone Shinra stands, but he is still light-headed and no match for Hibana's abilities, and she creates a flaming sakura who's falling petals burn him and then engulf him in flames. However, Shinra still resists and attacks her again, knocking her unconscious. Lying on the floor, Hibana's mind drifts back to her time at the orphanage and how she eventually collaborated with Haijma Industries to become a captain and enable her to pursue her experiments with controlling fire. Hibana regains consciousness, and Shinra offers to protect her but she declines, although she says she will no longer oppose him. She also fulfills her promise to Iris to create flowers from flames and creates an array of colorful irises.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin EP#09 - Dropping the Colony.
Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma (Training Camp Arc) EP#09 - The Breading That Showcases the Mountains: Having come up with an idea for their dish, Soma takes Inui's kaki peanuts on the understanding that any ingredient found in the area can be used. Soma and Megumi gather ingredients and make the Char Okakiage dish with their remaining 15 minutes, using the peanuts as a crust for the fish. Inui expresses her satisfaction and passes Soma and Megumi, but she does not declare a winner between Takumi and Soma as she is ordered to have her group depart immediately. Takumi vowes to challenge Soma to a Shokugeki should they meet again. The students return to the hotel where they are ordered to each cook 50 servings of a steak dinner to serve to the Bodybuilding, Football and Wrestling Clubs, with the risk of immediate expulsion unless all servings are cooked within 1 hour. Soma finishes quickly and heads to the public bath where he runs into Erina, who has just finished her own bath.
Lupin the 3rd Part 5 EP#12 - The Extravagance of Goemon Ishikawa XIII: Goemon is coerced by Lupin into to winning the confidence of the young woman Chloé Cazal. She was apparently a close friend of the late Belgian millionaire André Regnie, who gave her an immensely valuable gem necklace made before the Russian Revolution, which has made Chloé a target for the descendants of its original owners. While looking for her in the town of Sirena (and struggling with the attention of a local Anicon's visitors), Goemon befriends a boy named Jean who lives in Chloé's neighbourhood. He moves into Jean’s parents' hotel to watch over her, spending all his money on expenses and fending off several hired assassins in the process. However, Goemon later discovers that the girl is actually the Chloé's daughter Inés, and that her necklace is a forgery. Inés had acted as bait to enable her mother to sell the real necklace. In the end, with no money left, Goemon asks to stay with Inés to work off his accumulated hotel bill.
Black Clover EP#85 - Together in the Bath: Having failed to face Yuno in a duel, Asta becomes depressed and unresponsive to the Bulls efforts to cheer him up. The other Bulls are all nervous about the exam results and excited to find out which of them has been chosen as a Royal Knight. To snap them all out of their odd behavior, Yami orders them to participate in a team bath. While in the bath, Yami reminisces about his past when he first joined the Aqua Deers when the Magic Knight Squad was known as the Grey Deers under the command of Julius Novachrono. Accepting a job to protect a village's harvest from bandits in exchange for food, Yami finds himself overwhelmed by the bandits' numbers until he received add from his fellow Grey Deer member William Vangeance. Yami and Vangeance managed to capture all the bandits but their leader, the two deciding to become rivals from that day on.

Hermione Granger and the Firebird 4/4
Part 1 here
Part 2 here
Part 3 here
Nagini.
Nagini is . . . oh, boy.
So, previously on Hermione Granger and the Firebird: the Giving Cup, Helga Hufflepuff’s sacred goblet, once used to bind alliances and give strength to the weary, is dead. Before that, it did its damnedest to tear apart Hermione and her Hunt–and it nearly did. Viktor and Ron came close to killing each other. Mila, Darina, and Aleksi aren’t talking to each other. Tihomir is . . . well, he’s being Tihomir about it, which means that everyone keeps an eye on him when it’s his turn to cook. Tiho’s dad thinks a little baneberry in the tea adds variety to family meals and keeps the kids on their toes. Sirius won’t leave dog form.
Oh, and everybody has Horcrux nightmares.
So, running low on sleep and patience and general sanity, the Hunt makes a stopover in Godric’s Hollow. There’s an old Order safehouse there. And Harry has never seen his parents’ grave, or the place where he was born.
Okay, and Hermione wants to meet Bathilda Bagshot and maybe gloat a little about the Wiltshire Smythe/Devonshire Smith thing. Wouldn’t you?
Now, in their youth and excitement to be done with this damn Hunt and finally get some sleep in a proper bed and never talk to their fellow Hunters again at least until they get really bored, our brave heroes make an elementary mistake. They split up.
Harry doesn’t really feel like visiting his parents’ grave and having a lot of feelings in front of a bunch of Bulgarians, even if he did kind of save their lives and even if they do feel indignation on his behalf both loudly and frequently. They’re proving to be awfully handy in a scrap–but they’re still Hermione’s friends, really, not his and Ron’s. Viktor, meanwhile, has some serious shit to say to Ron, and Mila, Darina, and Aleksi have some serious shit to say to each other.
So, with Hermione and Sirius in tow, Harry heads for the graveyard. Viktor takes Ron out to the safehouse’s broom shed to see if they can salvage enough brooms for the Hunt. Viktor and Tiho are the only ones old enough to Apparate, and Tiho isn’t great at Side-Along. Only a few hastily-enchanted Portkeys and some serious cardio have kept them ahead of the Death Eaters. The remaining Bulgarians set about fixing dinner and checking wizarding radio for news.
(The news, by the way, is not great. There seems to be a roving band of young radical terrorists on the loose, staging Death Eater attacks through the countryside in order to continue their lawless spree: three ex-Hogwarts students, expelled by order of the Minister, and a gaggle of foreigners, one of whom rather eerily matches the description of international Quidditch sensation Viktor Krum. If you happen to see any of these hooligans, seek cover and report your sighting to the Ministry at once.)
“I know you care very deeply for Hermione, and you are very good at apologizing,” Viktor says over a pot of old broom polish, “But between apologies, I do not think you are very good at being her friend.”
“James and Lily were family,” Sirius says, barefoot in a snowy graveyard, holding Harry while he cries and Hermione looks awkward. “I shouldn’t have left you. Not with Hagrid, not with anyone, I never should have left you.”
“I hate what I said to you, and I know I can’t ever make up for it,” Mila says to Darina and Aleksi. “But it’s killing me to see it drive you two apart. Please don’t let me being stupid wreck this. It’s good for you. And I want you to be happy more than I want you.”
“Hm,” Tiho says to the stewpot.
“I’m . . . going to give you two a moment,” says Hermione, inching off stage left as Harry and Sirius weep on each other.
The Hunt is changing her. It’s happening faster all the time. She used to be able to spend all day in the library; just the thought of it makes her itch now. The others complain and pick at blisters around the evening campfire, and get distracted in mid-conversation, and slug about in the morning. Hermione has walked across half of England in the last three weeks, and she feels like she could run forever.
But she can’t, because her Hunt needs her to stay close. So she doubles back and forth along the trail. She does her hand stretches and picks idly at the hilt of her sword. Hermione can be patient.
Well, she tries, anyway.
Bagshot House is close, so close, and she knows that the boys will only be bored if they come with her. She spares a guilty thought for Aleksi–but no, he’ll forgive her, if she takes lots of notes for his capstone paper and maybe writes him an introduction letter.
So she goes to Bathilda Bagshot’s house, which is obviously a terrible idea. She has a lovely time over tea, gloats only a little bit about the Smythes, and takes lots of notes for Aleksi’s capstone paper. She says her goodbyes to Bathilda Bagshot, a sweet old witch who doesn’t seem to get out much, and sets off down the street.
Which is when the Aurors pop in and Stupefy her.
Hermione wakes up wandless and, more horribly, swordless in one of the Ministry’s charming detention cells. It might even be the same one she was held in after the Tottenham Court Road attack.
“Seriously?” She shouts at the ceiling. “It takes you thirty bloody minutes to respond to a Death Eater attack in the middle of London and two seconds to pick up a delinquent student in the arse-end of the West Country?”
Which is how she discovers that she is officially no longer a student.
Oh, she thinks, in a distant floaty sort of way, this is what being dead must feel like.
“Focus on your studies, dear,” her mum had always said, sternly, and “Don’t you ever jeopardize your future,” her dad had always said. They worked so damn hard to give her a good life, and this had always been the deal: you work hard enough to make opportunities possible, and we will make them happen for you.
Mum, dad, I’ve been expelled. Hermione could die of shame.
She reaches – stops – drops her hand into her lap, empty. No sword. Right.
She looks at her hands for a minute: gloved in scars from fingertip nearly to elbow. Callused from sword drills. Dirty under the fingernails. A splinter, dug into a callus where she can’t feel it or reach it with her teeth. Empty.
She keeps her eyes on her hands when the Aurors come in, when they manacle her hands and walk her down the hall towards the trial room.
She’d stopped studying Muggle maths in primary school; she’d kept up her science reading, because it was interesting and because it helped her spellwork, but she hadn’t taken proper Muggle exams in ages, and would Hogwarts even give a transcript as proof of enrollment? What are her options? Does Hermione even have options anymore? Or has she thrown them all away like an idiot, waving a wand and toting a sword and swanning about like a hero when there are no heroes––
It is at this point that a minor hell breaks loose. Historians would later sit down and agree that, more or less, this is what happened on the thirtieth of October, 1995:
In Godric’s Hollow, Hermione’s Hunt became aware that they had lost their Huntswitch. A panicked wizarding househusband (Reginald Cattermole, age 47) shouted at Harry and Sirius as they crossed the street in front of his house that he was calling the Aurors. The two sprinted back to the safehouse, where a brief consultation with the radio-operating group clarified that they were all wanted fugitives, at which point Ronald Weasley, age 15, said “Where’s Hermione?”
At approximately 2:10 p.m., the Hunt mounted their hastily-repaired brooms and began the long flight from Godric’s Hollow to London with all haste.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., an alleged Death Eater (Amycus Carrow, age 52) spotted the Hunt in situ and loosed spellfire, shooting down Darina Dimitarova, age 16.
Alexi Nikolov, age 16, and Mila Ganina, age 17, immediately dove to render aid; on finding Dimitarova badly injured, Alexi cast a yet-unidentified Dark curse; Carrow’s dismembered body was later found by Muggles in Dunkeswell, Yarcombe, and Chard.
After a brief argument, Ganina remounted her broom and rejoined the Hunt while Nikolov stayed to administer emergency healing.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., while flying over Salisbury, another Death Eater sighted the Hunt, heading towards London; after consulting with Peter Pettigrew (age 35, widely believed to have been possessed by You-Know-Who, age indeterminate due to spectral status), Bellatrix Lestrange, age 44, gave chase by broom with a squad of junior Death Eaters.
At approximately 4:00 p.m., Sirius Black, age 36, peeled off from the Hunt to engage the pursuing Death Eaters, shooting down three before a third struck him with an artritoma curse, forcing him to make an emergency landing.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., while flying over Epsom, a small force of wizards and witches formerly associated with the vigilante group known as the Order of the Phoenix rose to engage with the remaining Death Eaters; one, with a hex later described as a repurposed cooking charm, dispatched Lestrange.
The leader of the nominal Order force (Kingsley Shacklebolt, age 42) made it known to the remaining Hunters that Voldemort had announced his intent to attack the Ministry of Magic. Spurred on, the now united force (numbering about thirty) made for the Ministry to oppose him.
At 4:36 p.m., a blasting hex brought down the gates of the Ministry, opening the way for a large force of Death Eaters, as well as a small pack of werewolves.
In the ensuing combat, another blasting hex caved in the passage between the Ministry detention cells and Trial Room 3, nearly killing Hermione Granger, age 15, and her escorting Aurors.
At 4:41 p.m., the Hunt and the Order descended on the scene, pincering the Death Eaters between the broom-mounted force and a small band of Aurors rallied by Percival Weasley, age nineteen.
At 4:53 p.m., Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter, age 15, found Granger half-trapped beneath rubble (and by all reports extremely cross) and levitated her free. Weasley and Potter attempted to dissuade her from joining the battle while unarmed; in reportedly strong language, she insisted on finding her weaponry, then.
At 4:59 p.m., probably guided by some arcane Hunt magic, Granger discovered the Sword of Gryffindor (bonded to her some eleven months previous) bound with gleipknots in a Ministry holding cell; reunited with her primary weapon and with little hope of recovering her wand in a timely manner, she then joined battle.
At 5:07 p.m., Death Eater reinforcements arrived on the scene with a Peruvian darkness hex cast simultaneous to a choking, noxious fog.
With the majority of the defending force struggling to breathe and outlook grim, Granger did something extremely inadvisable with the Sword of Gryffindor which cleared the fog, resulting in distinctive scarring and hair loss patterns on survivors of the First Battle for the Ministry, as well as a permanent scorch mark on all the walls of the Ministry Atrium at a height of roughly seven and a half feet.
Fog cleared, it became obvious that Pettigrew, clearly possessed by You-Know-Who, had taken the field.
At 5:15 p.m., Gryffindor’s Sword in hand, Granger rallied the defending force for a charge at the remaining Death Eaters. Both sides took heavy casualties; the defending force retreated deeper into the Ministry
At 5:28 p.m., defending morale, faltering at the failure to completely repel the Death Eaters, was bolstered by the arrival of reinforcements from Hogwarts: the full complement of teaching staff (less one Severus Snape, age 34, who as a double agent was at the time embedded in the invading force) as well as several students who had begged, borrowed, or stolen their way into combat. Rubeus Hagrid, 65, was accompanied by a number of magical creatures which later proved instrumental in defeating the Death Eaters during the three-day Siege of the Ministry.
At 7:34 p.m., another large-scale blasting hex caused a number of internal collapses in the Ministry, killing some dozen members of both forces and dividing the defending force in two. By strange accident, much of one defending force was of an age to have fought the first war against Voldemort; the other was primarily at or below the age of adulthood and included Granger and what remained of the Hunt.
Injured but still mobile, Ronald Weasley assumed the role of strategist to the Young Defenders, orchestrating a series of guerrilla attacks on the invading force throughout the remainder of the night. Meanwhile, Granger determined by Hunt magic that the remaining Horcrux was mobile and within the Ministry but mainly stayed in the Atrium with the bulk of the invading force.
(“Bets that he’s wearing it?”
“Ugh.”)
At sunrise on the 31st of October, the latest strike force is returning from their predawn raid.
“Bagged a werewolf!” One of the Gryffindor upper-years brags. Hermione thinks of Professor Lupin with a shudder.
“Did you sleep at all?” Viktor’s hand is warm on her shoulder, only a faint tremble showing the strain of the last three weeks. Had it only been three weeks? It felt like an eternity since she sat across from him in his uncle’s library and said I’m doing it with or without you, but please let me do it with you.
“A proper Huntswitch doesn’t need sleep.”
“Hah. After year and a day of training, maybe. You have been Huntswitch three weeks.”
Cheeks burning, Hermione looked up at him. “Well, I don’t have the luxury of time. I’d better be a proper Huntswitch now or we’re all doomed.”
“Doomed? Now I know you have not slept.” Viktor grinned at her fondly. “Hermione Granger is never doomed.”
“Pff.”
Light down here in the shattered Ministry has gone strange, blue witchlights clashing with cheery mock-electric fixtures on the blink. Cormac McLaggen and Katie Bell have broom-lamps for night flight pinned to their robes, casting dark orange beams in whatever direction they face. Shadows are confusing and colors are wrong.
“Go ahead, Ron,” Hermione says, when everyone has assembled and for some reason is looking at her. Ron’s the one running this meeting. What are they looking at her for?
“Er, right. So this is us, near as we can figure,” Ron marked their rough map of the Ministry, “And most of the Death Eaters are still in the Entry Hall, with You-Know-Who. There are two exploratory forces here,” the holding cells, probably freeing or killing prisoners, “and here.” The Department of Mysteries. “We think the Order are fighting them there, Angelina saw spellfire before she doubled back.”
“How many are left in the Entry Hall?”
“Forty-odd, last count. Could be more coming any moment. And we’re thirty-two.”
“Thirty-one; I don’t want Tiho fighting with that concussion.”
“Thirty-one.” Ron rubs his nose, lost in the map. Then he looked up. “How do you feel about brooms?”
“Not great.”
“Oh, then you’ll love this.”
Hermione does not love this. Whatever wizarding storybooks say, wielding a sword from broomback is an absolutely terrible idea; even more so when you have someone else riding sloth grip underneath you.
“It’ll slow us down, but it’s the only way to get everyone in the fight,” Ron had said, glowering at his figures as he scratched in the earth exposed by shattered cobblestones. “And with our shock troops, you won’t need to be fast.”
Now, Ron is fifteen, and his grasp of Muggle combat theory is shaky at best. When he says shock troops, he literally means shocking troops; students of apparating age who show up in the middle of the invading force, grab whatever elbow is handy, and apparate across the room, deliberately splinching their passenger along the way. Which is a pretty shocking experience. The twins are experts and manage to teach the trick to a handful of others; the remainder are picking it up as they go.
Meanwhile, the broom riders are providing cover fire and targeting the werewolves, who the shock troops don’t dare apparate close enough to bite. And Hermione, with Viktor on sloth grip steering because he’s probably the only one who can manage it, is near the end of her Hunt.
“I think he is wearing it,” she shouted down to her pilot, “Every time he moves, it–,” and then she claps eyes on Nagini. And she knows.
“Bloody fuck, another living one.”
Here’s the thing about living Horcruxes: being one is pretty damn miserable. Harry describes the first fourteen years of his life as one long low-grade migraine, blurring his vision and making things like sports nearly impossible. He doesn’t wear glasses anymore. And that’s not considering the emotional and spiritual feedback, the constant internal struggle of a self against another self. Hermione can’t imagine how strong he is to have survived that and still come out, at the bottom of it, a really decent person.
But other things can happen to a living Horcrux, stranger and darker things: Parseltongue in a boy who has no blood link to any known Parselmouth, a well of power stronger than any fifteen-year-old wizard really ought to be, the willpower to survive even a partial Dementor’s Kiss.
Harry was a Horcrux for fourteen years. Nagini has been for going on eighteen, though Hermione has no way of knowing that. She does know, as she knows it is her prey, that something is very wrong with this snake.
It’s big, for one, bigger than any natural venomous snake; it moves with a near-human intelligence across the field, striking at shock troops and occasionally catching one.
(Hermione can’t look at the falling troops, can’t look, can’t let herself watch)
“Okay,” she shouts at Viktor, “New plan. Kill the snake.”
But of course, she’s a Horcrux, nearly indestructible; no spellfire on earth will kill her. Maybe Fiendfyre could, but Hermione can’t make Viktor burn her friends along with her enemies. She just can’t.
Her hand goes to the sword. Right. End this like it began; the old-fashioned way.
In a maneuver that will define wizarding warfare for the next century, the two barrel down from the air. Viktor casts a binding hex, trapping Nagini for a few crucial seconds as he pulls up and Hermione falls from above like a star, like a dying phoenix, sword burning in hand.
When she wakes, there is ash. Flakes of charred cloth and broomtwig float down around her; indistinct twitches and moans happen at the edges of her vision. She can’t seem to make her hands let go of the sword, awkwardly angled half-under her.
Oh. And there’s Harry. And Voldemort.
Voldemort wearing Peter Pettigrew is a horrible sight. He moves wrong, and breathes wrong, and looks awful around the edges, like bits of him are fading in and out of existence. He looks – bubbling, like a cauldron about to blow. Hermione should know, she’s been Neville’s potions partner for years.
And when he speaks, everything in Hermione twitches to end him.
She has been hunting pieces of this man’s soul for sixteen months; now he stands before her, fatally weakened by blow after blow, harried as by hounds, torn as by arrows. The Hunt burns in her. It wants blood. It will not be denied.
She is not sure how Neville is there, but he is, scrabbling through ash and rubble to pull her from the blast zone that was Nagini. He practically shoves a potion down her throat, and then another, and then he dumps another one over her head when she can sit up. She’s vibrating now. She needs to kill it. Her throat’s not working right, but she looks at Neville and the sword and Voldemort, who is still taunting Harry, and he understands. Neville has always been good at reading people.
They stand, boy and girl and sword, and they walk: slow, painful shuffle-steps muffled by ash. The twitches and moans are clearer now; they are people, or what’s left of them. Hermione doesn’t look. She just walks, firmer with every step, leaning on Neville whenever she wobbles and still gripping her sword.
Never drop your sword, Gyorgi says, though your hands bleed. He would be proud.
And now Voldemort has cast a spell, and Harry another, and the two meet in the middle.
Your wand has a brother, Ollivander says. Once there was a phoenix that gave two feathers, only two in all the world.
This is Voldemort: he has never, not once in his life, looked aside from his goal. He has not wavered; he has not strayed. When fled, he chases. When pushed, he pushes. Hermione sees him, the horrible twisted bubbling back of him as he throws every inch of strength into pushing against the brother-bond, and she sees what he could have been. Sometimes you just get a wizard born for the Hunt.
But he’s wrong, twisted in every way, barely even a person anymore; the Hunt is all that’s left of him, hungering endlessly, ravening without cease. And Hermione is a Hunter too.
Together, Neville and Hermione lift the sword. Almost gently, they thread it between the third and fourth ribs of a man who was once Wormtail and is now the eighth Horcrux of Tom Marvolo Riddle. Harry’s brother-bond holds the man who tried to kill him once and failed. Harry’s brother-bond holds him until his bones are all that’s left. It’s almost gentle. No blowback. No death-throes of a divided soul fighting to live. Only the end.
Hermione is very tired. She would like to sleep now.
She startles awake in the Hospital Wing.
“Hush now, dearie, it’s over. It’s over.” Cool hands on her forehead and where is her sword–
Hermione is very tired. She would like to sleep now.
She startles awake in the Hospital Wing.
“Hey, easy. Easy. Hermione? It’s me, it’s Ron. You’re all right. We’re all okay.” And then, yes, her sword is there, hilt familiar as her own skin. “Here, Madam Pomfrey said not to let you have this, but I think she’s bonkers, who wouldn’t want a sword in your shoes. Or, er, hospital gown.” The words are helping; she focuses on them, pins all her attention to that voice. “So, er, it’s been a few days. More like a week, I reckon. Er. You did it. Personally, I mean. You killed Voldemort.” There’s a pause, and a wet sniff. “Congratulations?”
And then, oh no, he’s crying. Ron’s crying. “I–I thought I killed you, I thought I sent you off to die, Hermione, and you’re – you’re –,”
“‘m l rt.”
Sobs. Well, honestly. Hermione clears her throat and tries again. “‘m ull-rht. Ron.” And it hurts, but she grabs his hand anyway, because that’s what being a friend is.
It takes a few more weeks before she can even walk far enough to visit Viktor in the next bed. Ron had insisted that they be installed next to each other, apparently, which Fred or maybe George had whispered to her with a wink at the end of a big group visit. Most of the shock troops had come through all right. The broom troops had actually been worse off, at least those still in the air when Nagini had gone up like a dying star. Muggles were calling it a sewer explosion.
Viktor is alive. That’s probably the best that can be said about his condition. He might walk without a cane someday, one of the nurses from St. Mungo’s had told her with a sympathetic look. He isn’t quite up to speaking yet, but on a nice overcast afternoon when the sun isn’t too bright, he likes to sit with her and hold hands. Hermione sees many more awkward letters full of Feelings in her future, but right now, she can’t quite bring herself to care.
Oh, Fudge is dead, by the way. Some Undersecretary defected to the Death Eaters and killed him during the siege. She’s still at large, and so are at least two high-profile Death Eaters. But most of them are dead.
Hermione doesn’t let herself know any more than that. She’s going to be at least half a year healing from these last three weeks, Madam Pomfrey has told her in no uncertain terms. She’s made her first kill (has in fact killed her first kill several times, depending on how you count it) and the Hunt is sated for now, but it still lingers in her. It would be so easy to choose this prey, to say yes and run what’s left of her feet to rags after them. So she doesn’t.
There are letters for her. A devoted throng of second-years headed by Colin Creevey are screening out howlers, but that leaves so much silent mail. Strangers thanking her for saving the Wizarding World. Foreign governments (oh, that’s Mila’s mum’s handwriting) offering her sanctuary (she did sort of technically invade the Ministry, didn’t she?). Hunters in the Americas congratulating her on her first kill and welcoming her to the Hunt. All sorts of people. Oh, and a letter from her mum.
Viktor thumbs a tear off her cheek and gently takes the letter out of her hands.
There are funerals. Lots of funerals. They never get easier.
“They want to give us Orders of Merlin,” Harry says, standing awkwardly at the foot of her bed, not really sure what to do with his hands. “For killing Voldemort, you know. You, me, and Neville. I made sure they knew who did it,” he says, defiant. Harry has never wanted to be a hero. Heroes do too much standing alone for his liking. Harry would much rather stand with his friends.
“Okay,” Hermione says, kind of at a loss. “Do you think they’ll still make us take our OWLs?”
Harry blinks at her and then starts to laugh. Then she does, too.
“Seriously, I haven’t studied at all.”
“Well, if they won’t give us an extension for saving the world, I bet we can retake them next year.”
Next year. And the next, and the next. Hermione has a sword on her hospital nightstand and scars on her fingers. She’s still not quite sure where her wand is. She’s been absent from school for two entire months and might still technically be expelled. But with all those years stretching out before her, free from Voldemort and Death Eaters and fucking Horcruxes, Hermione feels rich.
They talk about prophecies at the Order of Merlin ceremony, and when Dumbledore finally recites the damn thing even though she warned him not to, Hermione could just scream.
Divination. Ugh.
But the medal looks nice enough on her chest, opposite the strap of her baldric, and she’s finally healed enough to stand and walk around for a few hours without aching, so she even mingles a little. But then Viktor waves to her from a nice corner seat, Mila and Aleksi and even Darina beside him. Hermione tows her boys over to sit with her Hunt and gossip and tease each other about Mila’s dashing new facial scar and Viktor’s wheelchair biceps. Between that and the finger food, it’s not a bad evening all round.
So long as they don’t replace that ugly fountain with a statue of her, Hermione thinks she might even chalk this one up as a win.
There’s so much that Voldemort does not know, so many powers beyond his comprehension. He knows nothing of love, or friendship, or compassion. He doesn’t really know very much about Dementors and brother wands. The power of a good sharp murder stick is also foreign to him.
But above all else, he does not know the power of Hermione Granger.
THE END

15 Oct 4027 - The Return Of Skull Squad
After a year off trying and failing to be a professional bounty hunter, I’ve renewed my Geddon Force commission. I was shipped to Space Station KC 845 in orbit of Ross 248, for my assignment to the 108th fleet, second battle group Cyclops class carrier Heaven’s Turmoil 38 (HT38). Much to my dismay the four other members of Skull squad who went AWOL were also assigned here. In fact 84% of the crew of the HT38 had served with me in the past either on the BK45 and/or the SS19. Not wanting to see any of them i purchased a week's worth of food and beverages and locked myself in my quarters. I just stayed in my quarters drinking rum, eating junk food and smoking indica. Things just got so complicated...but that is a tale for another day.
I’d been aboard the HT38 for two days and it was 1244 hours and I was awakened by my doorbell sounding. Risa, my personal integrated computer (PIC), identified the solicitor as Lt. Rheyeice Otneps; fifth seat of Skull squad, my squad. Her call sign is Rice, a simplified pronunciation of her first name. She’s a Devorean so her hair and eyes are the exact same color, pale pink. There are numerous physiological differences between Devorean and Humans, most notably their joints have evolved to function in all directions, and their feet are spatulate. She’s Three inches taller than I am, and her skin is a darker shade of brown than mine.
I was dressed in powder blue boxer briefs and my face itched from 48 days of unkept beard growth. I let her in hoping my current state would repel her. I forgot who I was dealing with. Devoreans believe the most noble pursuit in life is to abstain from vice; Rice is an exception to this. She leads a hedonistic life that has made her the black sheep of her rich and powerful family; whom she loathes.
“Figures I’d find you like this.” Rice came in and went diagonally for a bottle of rum on my dresser. She swigged from the bottle before saying,
“I get it. Things got really shitty for me too after Sorry died and all the mess that followed. But I came back, we all did. We neither want to, nor know how to do anything else. It’s a little late lament about it now. Now you know me, I’m not one to tell another how to live their life; to each their own. But if you didn’t want to be here, why did you come back when asked?” Before I could answer she did it for me. “I guess you never figured they’d stick you with us again. With her. Tough luck. You should know better than anyone it’s good PR for the heroes of the Battle of Darnoc to be seen together.” She took this moment to sip more rum and sit on my dresser.
“And that’s what I’m here for. The new nuggets arrive in 76 minutes and Angel wants all of us in the briefing room in 60. Skull squad has the honor of pay aggressor squad.” She took another sip of rum and said, “I’m not asking you not to hurt, or be angry. I’m asking you to do it for the six hours a day you’re not on duty. When you’re in here,” she gestured to my messy quarters,”alone, you’re free to think and feel how you wish. But it’s only a matter of time before someone who outranks you sees your pitiful state. And if that happens they’ll take away your wings. And when that happens you’ll truly have nothing. Besides, without you we’re one seat short and they just sent us a fresh batch of rookies. It’ll be sometime before we get a replacement.” Rice slithered off the dresser and handed me the bottle of rum. Before opening the door to leave she said, “Remember, flight suit, not uniform.”
I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. Rice was right, the truth is I had nowhere else to go. And all my sulking wasn’t accomplishing anything. It was a means to mask the fact that I missed the job. Sure needless bureaucracy cost Sorry her life, and everything that followed twisted my heart and mind. But it wasn’t the job specifically I loathed. I loathed myself for not loathing the job. Like I should be angry and bitter at something when I didn’t truly feel that way. It was time I embraced the life I chose seven years ago. Though I might need a fake brave smile for a while.
I shower, comb my hair and beard and squeeze into my flight suit. I’ve gained some weight; Risa confirms that I’ve gained two kilos since I last wore it. Then I stop by the officer’s club for a mai tai and two Gran Vuvaa (a domesticated animal native the Periphon system similar to buffalo) tamales before reporting to the briefing room. Despite being seven minutes early I’m the last to arrive. Col. Syllia Winters (callsign Angel) is our air boss, and she looks just like I remembered. Pretty face, violet eyes, healthy pale skin, the only thing that's changed is her hair. It’s all grey save her bangs. She also seemed to develop crows feet but her professional level makeup hid them well.
“I’m glad to have you all back from your sabbatical.” she was still nothing but politeness and manners, “I’m confident you’re all eager to get back in the saddle. But I wanted you to know that none of you are under review, nor will your flight performance be graded in any way. I selected you as the aggressors as a surprise to one of the nuggets. This is about to be the best day of her life.” She was laughing during that last line. “So I need you to mount up before they arrive, so get going.”
“One query Col. Angel.” Cera spoke up. Lt. Capt. Cera Perrine (callsign Cera) is our second seat, meaning she’s second in command of our squad, is a Tarkin; though she’s from Saturn’s moon Tethys. Like all Tarkins she has chromatophores, iridophores and leucophores that enable their skin and eyes to change colors. They also have muscles in the skin to change its texture. They have 11,664 tentacles on their head in place of hair. These features have given them a reputation as shapeshifters. She maintained her “hair” black, her eyes yellow and her skin a pale yellow. She’s two inches shorter than I am. Her younger sister, Ma’re, also serves aboard HT38.
“There are eight new pilots joining us. We’re to face them with just the five of us?”
“Correct. And I’m counting on you five not to lose. I’m sure you won’t disappoint.”
“What scenario shall serve as the nuggets initiation?” Cera asked.
“Operation broadsword, followed by mayhem.” Angel was so amused she could barely contain herself, which was most unusual for her. She was always very prim and proper, even when not on duty. “
“Where’s M’Fisto?” Inquired our third seat Maia.
1st Lt. Maiangela “Maia” Wingates is human and with mauve colored eyes and her purple hair is in afro puffs. We are from the same academy graduating class and she graduated six spots ahead of me. I had a crush on her back in those days and we even tried dating for a time. The return and death of Sorry complicated the whole matter causing the squad to go AWOL. But like I said, that is a tale for another day.
Funny, I just noticed the top four seats in this squad (currently) all have at least one parent serving in the Geddon Force. Though mine is the only one listed as deceased. Don’t ask I’m getting off topic...let’s just say I wasn’t ready to see her when I arrived, and had no choice but to get over that as she was standing right next to me. And she still smelled like lavender.
“Unfortunately, during your...sabbatical M’Fisto was promoted to Captain and assigned elsewhere. I lost track of her about eight months ago when she was assigned to the 78th fleet.” There was genuine regret in Angel’s voice. M’Fisto was our third seat during the battle for Darnoc. She was never one for the fame we gained that day and not really relevant to the story here, so I’ll move on.
There were no further questions so the five of us hurried to the flight deck and boarded our F/A - 74C Phantom space fighters. They were set to simulator mode so we wouldn’t actually be flying or fighting in them, but  were the real thing. Risa had uploaded my preferred settings to the unit, and I used the spare time to make minute adjustments to the seat inclination and pedal sensitivity. While settings could be uploaded, it was simpler to have each pilot assigned a specific fighter. Off duty fighters could be worked on and in the event of crisis time wasn’t wasted waiting for settings to adjust.
The simulation began, but we were casual observers at this point. Operation Broadsword consisted of two waves of Torven fighters (the aggressors were always Torven because of the similarities in performance to our own mecha) defending a cruiser. Their mission was to break through the defensive line and destroy the cruiser. The mayhem part was where we came in; as enemy reinforcements.
There were eight nuggets, four in Phantoms and four in the F/A - 79A Phantasm, referred to as the bomber. The difference was the Phantasm lacks an internal weapons bay in favor of a 105 mm cannon used primarily for anti ship operations. They dealt with the first wave of enemy fighters just like the textbook spells it out. The second wave of fighters presented them with only minor complications, but were soundly defeated. Rice and Maia quipped about how these nuggets had it way easier than we did during our initiation. I gave automatic responses, but was glad Maia was at least speaking to me.
Why must I have this anxiety?
While the eight were attacking the cruiser, we got the greenlight to attack. We decloaked 35 seconds away from the action. As usual, Cera gave the orders,
“Accelerate to attack speed and fall into an “O” formation. If they follow the textbook, the four fighters will turn to intercept us, as they are doing now. All units save Harper are to blow past them and engage the bombers. Harper, you are to delay the fighters until we eliminate the bombers.”
“Four against one? You think to highly of me.” I lamented, noticing how naturally that came.
“And you still think too little of yourself.” Cera retorted. Before I could respond, Lt. Col. Yellow added,
“If Cera and I didn’t have the utmost confidence in your ability we wouldn’t have assigned you this task. Now Cera and I could do it, but that would increase the time it takes to down those bombers and lend you support. But if you can’t say so right now and I’ll handle it. You have seven seconds to decide.” Lt. Col. Scorpio Thaddeus Yellow (callsign Yellow) was our squad leader. He’s 6 ft 5 in tall; his registry is human but he’s quick to point out how the majority of his DNA isn’t human. His hair is black, straightened and almost never tied up. He has pale brown eyes and noticeably dark skin. He’s done his best not to get promoted throughout his career, and was promoted to Lt. Col. for purposely failing the promotion exam with a score of zero.
I only needed one and a half seconds to respond, “No, no I got this sir.”
“Incoming long range missiles.” Maia notified us. We easily avoided them with chaff then entered dogfighting range. As per the plan the others blew past the furball leaving me alone with the four fighters. The four tried to split up but I halted that with a trio of my own missiles. They quickly realized my agenda  and regrouped to take me out four on one. And in that moment I felt it; again. The resolve not to die. I knew the textbook, and I also knew first hand how it could be exploited against itself. Suddenly their maneuvers became predictable something I could exploit. Their stratagem was to surround me and attack from all sides and if I were to lock onto one, the other three could get on my tail and eliminate me. It kept me mostly defensive. But i saw an opening. Something the textbook doesn’t prepare one for. I locked onto one and pursed, and the other three took my tail, but as they did so, I simply dropped my remaining missiles arming the proximity fuses. since I didn’t use a lock on, they ignored them until they detonated. It didn’t destroy them, but it did distract them long enough for me to shoot down the one I was chasing.
The remaining three tried to gang up on me but I went totally defensive. One got overly aggressive and made a bad move and I shot them down too. I felt a smile creep across my face as the remaining two fighters pressed their attack. But it was in vain; if they couldn’t beat me with three fighters they couldn’t with two. I stayed defensive, but began predicting which chapters of the textbook they’d use next. They took notice and tried to be unpredictable, but this left them open to my fire. As they were thinking about their options when they were shot down by long range fire from the rest of Skull squad. They were so focused on me that they ignored the fact that their bombers had been shot down. The simulation was over, but I wanted more. My soul was left wanting. I wanted to shoot the last two down myself and was nearly overcome with rage at being denied.
I exited the cockpit and stormed towards the gathering squad. As i took off my helmet, Maia intercepted me and said, “That was quite the piece of flying Hammer. One wouldn’t think you’d had a year off.” and then she smiled, like she knew it would instantly defuse me. And damn her it worked. All I could do was grin sheepishly and say,
“Aw shucks, it was nothing.” To which Rice said,
“If that was nothing, I’d hate to see something.” Cera nodded in agreement.
“C’mon they’re expecting us in the briefing room.” with that Maia took me by the hand and lead us out. For one brief moment it seemed that all the pain, fear, grief and anger that separated us vanished. But after that moment I remembered reality and forced such pleasantness from my mind.
