My favourite headcanon about the AU where Anakin doesn’t turn to the dark side and just has a normal happy family:

Luke eventually comes out as gay to his mom and his dad, and while Padme is being all super proud and hugging and kissing him, Anakin is standing there like ???What the fuck is gay???

Like, come on, my boy spent nine years on the star wars equivalent of the middle of nowhere and was then raised by the Jedi with their whole major puritan “no-romance-of-any-kind-with-any-gender-or-species” culture. He barely knew that romance or sex existed until he was 19, there is no way anyone ever told him what being gay means.

(But after Padme explains it to him he starts wearing a rainbow pin that says “I’m proud of my gay son” everywhere and studies queer culture in order to set him up with an Anakin Approved™️ boyfriend)

What do you think of the fanfics where Cal is Obi Wan's secret son?

Of course Cal doesn't know anything.

I know it's not a theory but just something fans write for fun but I admit I find it nice.

Regardless, I'd like to find out about Cal's life before the Jedi order.

Short answer: I do read them because I love and adore Obi-Wan, HOWEVER I have no intention of ever writing one.

The only AU I may ever actually write is Cere being the Seeker who found baby Cal because REASONS. Long answer: I like it as an AU fanfic concept but I very much do not want this to be the case in canon.

I really want Fallen Order to have minimal interactions with the rest of SW canon. One of the things I love about the game is, outside a couple of well-placed moments, it stands completely alone and makes the SW universe feel big again after the shitshow that was the sequel trilogy. I love that Cal and Cere are just these random Jedi who have no connection to the freaking Skywalker vs Palpatine saga and all the other characters messed up in that. And yes, I'm INCLUDING Vader because Cal and Cere have no clue who he is. He's just a terrifying Sith to them, not Anakin Skywalker.

I always think Star Wars could take a page from Star Trek's book here. We know all the Trek characters (barring the recent films) exist in the same universe, yet we don't need to see them all interacting or learn they're all related to feel connected. Fallen Order does this beautifully and I hope they keep it up in Survivor.

AND YET -

The idea of Obi-Wan being Cal's father is nice! (Although I do wonder if people go 'hey, they're both ginger. THAT MUST MEAN THEY ARE FATHER AND SON!' As the only actual red-headed member of my family, this irritates me because I spent most of my childhood being asked if I was adopted 🙃).

I definitely prefer stories where Obi-Wan's his dad and yet they NEVER MEET AGAIN after Cal is born because the minute you throw Obi-Wan Kenobi into the mix it absolutely takes away from Cal's relationship with Cere which is far more interesting to me.

I too am curious about Cal's pre-Jedi Order life, and if I were to ever write that AU a story set that early, Obi-Wan wouldn't be involved.

Tiny 12 year old Obi-Wan on his first mission (with Master Dooku) gets lost because of Circumstances™️ (even with a different master poor baby can’t stop with the rough missions) and finds a strill in the forest who immediately recognizes him as Pup (Obi-Wan was worried that the strill was mad at him for being in their territory so he reached out to them in the force and found the big thing has already decided he’s a lost pup in need of help) and immediately gets corralled off to a close by farm, where Mand’alor Mereel is taking a small vacation with his son Jango and a few verde after a few rough missions, Obi-Wan is immediately nudged into a barn where Jango is trying to get the rest of the strills to bed down and stop harassing the livestock when suddenly there is a small dirty child at his elbow asking Solus to stop trying to trip him and Jango is all ‘…oh no… I’m a father…’ and promptly takes him back to the house where he gets the child cleaned and fed and Jaster is yammering his ear off about all the Jedi texts he wants to read in the archives one day and Obi-Wan (who is perfectly in tune with Jaster’s chattering lmao they are like minded) mentions that family of Jedi are allowed to visit their children a few days a week, and able to visit up to the master’s discretion after they’re padawans or apprenticed, and have access to the archives through that, and Jango is like ‘oh no, now I have a brother’ and when Dooku finally catches up to him Obi-Wan is introducing his Buir and Ori’vod and the few verde that came with them as his Ba’vodu and Dooku is all ‘…oh no his new Buir is hot’ and now they’re all one big disfunctional family and Obi-Wan gets to play with strills and gets lots of yummy curry from his new Mando dad and whoops he’s a prince now?????? Did not expect that one.

Shockingly enough, he finds an entire group of people at the temple who say that’s exactly how they got adopted (half of them by Mandos too) as apprentices themselves, so it’s like. Tradition. At this point. Good shit.

Can I just say that one thing I love about the dichotomy between the Jedi and Sith in the prequels is how it’s a metaphor of how it’s just as dangerous to play it too safe and live by the rules and expectations of society out of fear of taking a risk (Jedi) as it is to play it fast and easy by trying to take charge of everything that gets in your way (Sith)?

We see Anakin Skywalker, and at his worst, he absolutely does become an arrogant, horrifyingly selfish, merciless, and tyrannical villain in his self-loathing, fear of Sidious and others with positions of abusive authority over him, and anger and paranoia towards his enemies and those with positions under him. However, at his best, he is capable of being just as much of an amazingly brave, empathetic kindhearted, and selfless hero as his son Luke in the OT movies. Even though it’s been pushed down, stunted, and underdeveloped, at his best, Anakin Skywalker really is someone who wants to make a difference for the better of the galaxy and cares so much about people he connects with that he’ll risk or sacrifice anything to make sure they are safe and happy. He tried to be the perfect Jedi™️ in public, which was already toxic enough as it was, to try to be safe, and live true to himself in secret with Padme and his family at the same time because he didn’t feel confident to be openly true to himself under pressure. Unfortunately, it destroyed him and the lives of many in the end until Luke came along.

You see Luke, and he is pretty similar to who Anakin probably would have been with more confidence in his conscience and personal agency raised under healthier circumstances with more people who encouraged him to be safe by just being true to the best version of himself. However, because he is emotionally driven like his dad, there is an aspect that if he cared too much, or took off his filter too much, he could go dark.

By contrast, most of the Jedi of Anakin’s time who were constantly making an effort to be the perfect Jedi™️ and didn’t struggle with the dark side too much at all . Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda never became seriously dangerous and evil at their worst, but they never were particularly good people at their best either because they were too afraid to ever be their best and stand up for what they believed in much at all. In the end, all they have is each other, and while Order 66 and Anakin’s fall to the dark side wasn’t something their entire Order deserved, you also can’t deny that they partly brought this fate upon themselves by becoming too arrogant and comfortable in enabling and perpetuating “necessary” abuse, crime, and oppression in the Republic that became safer and easier to partake in then doing the right thing.

mmm sorry it’s time to talk about Obi-Wan and Cody’s brotherly/bestie/father and son relationship. this scene??

Obi-Wan had been alone waiting for Quinlan to arrive, and Cody didn’t even end up going on the mission. So that means that Cody saw Obi-Wan out there looking troubled as always, heaved a sigh and went and kept him company, asked if anything was on his mind, and proceeded to nod like a MOM therapist while listening to his General’s list of grievances. Obi-Wan has CLEARLY made a therapist of Cody before and Cody just seems so?? Content to talk to his General and be his friend, not just a Commander, when he really didn’t even need to be there??

And here for the tenth, hundredth, or maybe even the thousandth time, here comes Obi-Wan to save the day. Do you know how easy it would have been for Obi-Wan to simply not throw himself in front of a missile to save a clone that is by all means supposed to be disposable?? Of course he’s a Jedi and all lives matter to him, but it could be argued that from an objective Jedi’s point of view, an unharmed Jedi would save more lives than a single clone could. Does this matter to Obi-Wan?? Of course not. And not only does Obi-wan dive in front of a missile to save said clone, he proceeds to practically scold him with a harsh “Cody, get down” because Protective Dad Obi-Wan™️ almost had a heart attack. Aside from being friends and brothers in arms, that’s his emotional support clone commander!! who would he whine to about Anakin and Quinlan Voss if he wasn’t around?? he is not replaceable???

and then of course this was Obi-Wan’s last interaction with the real Cody: a lighthearted “I think you’ll be needing this” as they exchanged small grins because both of them are thinking maybe finally this war is coming to an end, maybe finally everything they’ve been fighting for is going to prevail and it will all have been worth it.

Obi-Wan never even got to say goodbye to the man that he fought countless battles beside and saved/was saved by more times than either cared to count. Their last interaction was just another time the Commander had his General’s back; just like the General had always had his.

There’s plenty to be miffed about this episode, believe me. But, I feel like there’s a lot of disappointment for the direction of Luke’s character etc. going around.

But what if Luke *wants* him to choose the mithril chainmail.

“A moment for you is a lifetime for others” he’s LITERALLY sayinG IF YOU CHOOSE THE LIGHTSABER AND DEDICATE YOUR TIME TO THE FORCE RN YOUR DAD WILL GROW OLD AND DIE WITHOUT YOU. He legit has a long ass life to find someone to teach him.

There was a lot of dialogue and focus on choice as a theme this ep. (Ahsoka “The Jedi Aren’t What They’re Cracked Up to Be TBH” Tahno mentioning not being able to control others choices, and telling Luke to trust his instincts about Grogu/probably about his own choices)

I honestly think Luke isn’t making Grogu make this choice to be shitty or continue the toxicity of the Jedi’s Thing About Attachments™️.

He’s giving him the same choice that he made when he broke from his training with Yoda. Only instead of implying he’s a failure if he chooses the ones he loves over his training *cough cough, lookin at you Yoda,* he’s giving him the right to choose. The guy who gave up his training to save the ones he loved most and aid in bringing down the Empire is giving Grogu the same opportunity, knowing that either path has its own merits.

Just. Something to consider.

i don’t think din knows what a jedi is and at this point is too afraid to ask and also has no fucking clue who luke is before the series, but i do think he kinda knows who leia is - he may say the name shakes a tambourine because of what he hears about politics, but mostly it’s because she killed jabba - and he ABSOLUTELY knows who han is, both by reputation and because of That One Weekend On Naboo Yes I Am Implying They Fucked. the Very Important Political Dinner™️ he was forced to go to because he’s, yanno, the ruler of mandalore though is shocking, because in one night he learns that not only is that hot smuggler now a trophy husband to a high ranking New Republic official but also said high ranking New Republic official is the twin sister of his son’s ex-preschool teacher and he doesn’t know how to navigate this tangled web he’s weaved why couldn’t bo katan take the kriffing darksaber. peli however knows EXACTLY who luke is but only because she’s from tatooine and remembers the weird kid who beat her at pod racing a bunch of times. after din casually mentions grogu was at luke’s wizard school until he got kicked out for loving his dad crimes peli’s like I KNOW THAT BITCH and SOLELY refers to him as wormie and din does NOT laugh but it’s a challenge.

The Marcuses when you’re sick HCs

Inspired by a conversation with @disgruntledspacedad @jedi-mando and @perropascal and me being stuck at home injured, because everybody deserves cute Pedro characters to take care of them when they’re sick 🥺😍

Marcus Pike: listen, this boy looks after you like it’s a damn mission. He’ll come over, make a list of everything you need, and then come back from the store with a whole aisle’s worth of supplies. Cold medicine obviously, but also Gatorade, cough drops, soup from the deli, and your favorite kind of candy, because he’s sweet like that. After making grilled cheese to go with the soup he picked up, he’ll help you into your coziest, fuzziest jammies, wrap you in a blanket burrito, and set you on the couch before putting on your favorite sick day movie. (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Obviously.) Then once he cuddles you to sleep, he’ll sneak off to change the sheets, do your laundry, and wipe down all the counters so you don’t have to stew in sick germs. He will, of course, inevitably get sick too from spending way too much time around you and cuddling you while you’re sick, but it’s totally worth it for him, especially when you return the favor and take care of him. 🥰

Marcus Moreno: Marcus M is a dad, so he has lots of experience in helping out on sick days. He has Missy to take care of too, but he has plenty of patience and affection to go around, so he tells you to come over and stay so he can keep an eye on you. His medicine cabinet is fully stocked, because he’s a Real Adult™️, but he does stop by the store on the way from dropping Missy off to school so that he can pick up your favorite kind of tea. And he also makes you tea in a kettle on the stove, because, well, Real Adult™️. He’ll call the Heroics to tell them you both need a personal day. He’ll get you settled on the couch with the tv going in the background while you nap, then cover you with a blanket while he makes dinner (chicken noodle soup), leaving in going in the slow cooker while he goes to pick up Missy. You’re too worried about getting one of them sick, so you sleep in the guest room, but he plants a soft kiss on your forehead before you go to bed, which honestly works just as well, if not better, than nyquil. 😘
