For awhile, Heroes and civilians alike (Villains didn’t particularly care since as he didn’t get in their way) thought the villain ‘Risk’ had ‘reflection’, the ability to, you guessed it, reflect attacks after they’d hit.
Though it was similar, it wasn’t right. They figured that out, unfortunately, catching inconsistencies with every new fight—if he was hit by, say, a punch (which were surprisingly common in a super-powered world), he would stumble back normally. If he were hit by a fire blast, often belonging to the hero Ignite, he would be burned and turn-tail.
But when Eight shot blue energy at him through his signature staff? It would turn-tail, changing direction to hit it’s user (Risk seemed to have it out for Eight, for whatever reason—he’s almost never been hit by one of the man’s attacks, taking extra care to dodge and throw back).
When a sound wave from Dream, the no.1 villain who saw him as a nuisance (which he took great pride in), didn’t move fast enough, it twisted without a pause, often hitting the man back. This was a slightly better outcome, for the heroes—if Dream had a ‘rival’, which is what the media called it for simplicity, he’d be occupied, giving the heroes more time to prepare.
But even then, their efforts weren’t enough. Even distracted, Dream worked quickly, and with Risk in the mix, it was getting harder and harder to hold their ground.
Dream, you see, was objectively superior to most all heroes power-wise. He was one of the rare few to be born with three powers—Weaponised sound, wingless-flight, and enhanced speed. He could move swiftly and without care for gravity, allowing him to dodge with ease: sound-waves were forceful and you never knew where they’d come from (the chatter of civilians, the sound of attacks colliding, your own voice. Silence was highly recommended), making for strong attacks.
He could only be defeated by The Blade, the no.1 hero, who had superhuman strength, reflexes, and stamina. But even then, if Dream left the ground, it was over. The strength let him jump higher, yes, but he couldn’t stay higher.
So in short, Dream was powerful. And fast. And above every hero even if they loathed to admit it.
So with another villain on the streets who could very possibly rival and weaponise that power? They’d be screwed. Absolutely screwed.
So patrols went up. They needed to catch one—most likely Risk—before the two teamed up (though that didn’t seem likely, it was possible). Heroes patrolled more often, working to the point of exhaustion. Dream seemed to be playing it safe and, despite his cockiness, laying low.
Risk was doing the same, somewhat. He showed up every so often, narrowly evading capture and leaving damage in his wake, but otherwise wasn’t sighted.
And, thanks to the fatigue and need for more assets, nobody seemed to notice when two people—both blonde with opposite colour schemes, coincidentally listed as powerless—were hired at hero-tower. And worse, nobody noticed the signature lime of a villain or the vibrant red of a reflector creeping into the supposed haven.
And when they do?
Well, it’ll be far too late by then. Maybe it already is: they’re armed with information and files, a begrudging alliance, and the realisation they’re a dynamic duo when they tolerate the other.
So, safe to say, hero-society, or at least the tower, is screwed.
Sorry if this got confusing in any way. This was originally meant to be another prompt (Tommy with reflection powers) but it got out of hand and somehow became a full AU.
To clear things up, Risk is Tommy, a notorious villain with a a type of telekinesis that lets him control powers. Though not mentioned, he can also manipulate his own energy (being red, which morphs and solidifies at will).
Eight is Wilbur, who uses the same (condensed energy but blue, which burns more than solidifies and often harms the user (hence the staff)). The Blade is Techno, ofc, who has superhuman strength, speed, stamina and reflexes.
Dream is, well, Dream, who weaponises sound waves, can fly, and walks fast (a deadly combo, I know /j). Ignite, though only mentioned in one line, is Sapnap, able to generate fire with his hands and withstand both hot and cold temperatures.

Egotober Day 1: Hoodie
DSMP Superhero AU  Phoenix Rising
Summary:  During one of his shifts Tommy wearing his lucky hoodie winds up having a chance to actually talk to his crush, Roxanne.  A Swan Avian on the Swim Team and in Tommy’s opinion one of the most beautifulest and very smart girls at school!  What can go wrong?  Oh Primes!  Why is his brother here?
TW: NONE! Just some good old Fluff!
A/N: Hi! I'm finally here! Yes, I know I'm late but school's been kicking my butt and I'm trying to stay ahead of the game! So, Egotober might not have as much this year as Whumptober. Actually not all of them will have a lot this year. Hopefully, next year!
HAPPY CREATING EVERYONE!
(The Craft’s House)
It was Saturday which meant that Tommy due to his shift at the Cloudy Café here in an hour.  It was actually not that bad of a day.  Tommy woke up on time instead of missing his alarm.  Wilbur was home during one of his rare days off.  And Tommy got to have a cooked breakfast from Phil!  Techno was even here, although he had to head on out soon.  He had to “keep up appearances at the bookstore, so no one knew that he was Superhero” (the staff figured it out in a month but never said anything).
Tommy, wanting to keep the good vibes going, decided to take his “Lucky Hoodie” to work today.  Who knows, it might bring him good luck!
“You’re in a good mood Tommy,” Wilbur commented, noticing Tommy’s smile.
“It’s been a good day so far,” Tommy answered.  Then Tommy turned towards Wilbur, a question on the tip of his tongue.  “Hey, Wilbur, can I ask you something?”
“Sure gremlin.  What advice do you need from big brother Wilbur?”  Wilbur teased.
“You know what, I changed my mind!”  Tommy exclaimed.
“No, no, seriously what do you want to ask?”  Wilbur asked a bit more seriously now seeing the nervous look on his younger brother’s face.
“Wilbur, how do - that is - you see there’s someone that I,” Tommy tried to say.  He didn’t know how to ask his brother.  How do you ask your older for advice on how to ask a girl that you like out?
“You like someone, Tommy?”  Wilbur asked with a teasing grin.  Apparently Tommy said the last thing out loud without realizing it.  “Oh, who’s the lucky girl?  Or guy?  Or person?  I won’t judge!”
“It’s - her name’s Roxanne.  She’s on the swim team and she’s an avian.  Um, how do I ask her out?”
“Do you know if she likes you?  Or if she has someone already?”
“I don’t know if she likes me or not, but I know she’s not dating one right now.”
“Well, then, ask her out for a cup of coffee.  That way you can see if you guys like each other and if she likes you.  Worst case scenario she’s not interested and just says no, right?”
“Yeah, right,” Tommy nervously smiles.
Oh, Primes, how was he supposed to get the courage to ask her out for coffee?  Tommy Danger Kraken Innit-Watson, the younger brother and youngest son of the World’s Top Superhero in L’Manburg can’t even find the courage to ask out a girl he likes!  Glancing at the clock on the wall, Tommy quickly grabbed his bag and headed out the door to check the bus so he wasn’t late for work.
(The Cloudy Café)
The Cloudy Café was a Café/Restaurant that was opened by a former Hero, Puffy aka the Captain.  Puffy retired about ten years ago to raise her sons Noah and Clay.  She opened the Café as a way to occupy herself in her free time but at the same time have something to help try to keep her boys out of trouble when they were younger.  And also have a place for people to come to in the lower region in the City.
Tommy liked working here.  He wasn’t just Techno’s or Wilbur’s younger brother.  He wasn’t just Phil’s kid.  He was Tommy.  Just Tommy here, and Tommy loved that!  He was his own person working at the Café.  Tommy couldn’t be more than grateful for that!
Tommy grew up in the Foster System just like Wilbur and Techno.  Hell that’s how they met!  But when the three of them got adopted they found out that Phil was the Crowfather.  Wilbur and Techno soon followed suit but Tommy still felt out of place.  No powers and it’s nearly impossible even with his family’s reputation for him to become a Hero.
But here at the Café it was different.  It was different in a good way.  Tommy was just another employee here.  No one cares if you’re a Hybrid or not.  No one cares if you have powers or not.  All anyone cared about was whether or not their order was made correctly and if you could get it to them in an untimely manner.
That wasn’t to say Tommy enjoyed all of this time at the Café.  There were times where he wondered why he even said yes, to the Help Wanted Sign in the window.  But seeing as he’s making his own money and not relying on his family.  Being his own man while maintaining his grades.  Yeah, if all Tommy had to do was put up with Karens then Tommy was content with his life right now.  Next to helping out his two best friends in the Vigilante area.
The bell rang and Tommy turned his attention to the next customer to plaster on his Customer Service Smile, when his heart stopped.  There coming into the Café was none other than his crush, Roxanne.  Roxanne was a Swan Avian with silver-white wings black tips, gleaming beautifully in the afternoon sunlight.  Blond hair, dark eyes, sliver-white feathers with black tips around her ears and web fingers.
Roxanne was on the Swim Team and was rumored to be up for the position of Captain of the Swim Team.  She wore a power suppressant during practices and swim meets proving that she was on the team because of how good of a swimmer she is and not because of her being a Swan Avian.
Roxanne was also in a few classes with Tommy.  Tommy had the pleasure of being partnered up with Roxanne and saw just how intelligent she truly is.  She even helped Tommy out a few times, when he was struggling a bit with the assignments.   And both of them got a really good grade on the assignment.
Tommy smiled.  “Welcome to the Cloudy Café.  How may I help you today?”
“Oh hey Tommy,” Roxanne greeted with a polite smile.  “I didn’t know you worked here.”
“Yeah, saving up for a car,” Tommy said.  “Also, trying to save up for college.  Dad said he would pay for tuition and books but everything else I have to pay for.”
Okay, that was a bit of a lie.  Phil actually said he would pay for everything if Tommy got into college or a career center.  But Tommy just didn’t know what he wanted to do once he graduated high school.  He couldn’t be a Hero because he was powerless, so he was really trying to figure everything out.  But Roxanne didn’t need to know that.
“Well that’s good to hear.  I’ll have a Caramel Frappe please?”  Roxanne ordered.
“Sure, can I get a name for the order?”  Tommy recited putting the total in the register.
“Roxanne.”
Tommy told her the total of the order and gave Roxanne her change.  Then he went over and wrote something on her cup and went to make her drink.  When Tommy was finished he placed the drink on the counter.
“Caramel Frappe for Roxanne?”
“Thanks, Tommy!”  Roxanne grabbed her drink and put a ten in the tip jar.  “Good luck with saving for the car!”  As Roxanne was about to head on out when she noticed the note on her drink.
Roxanne, I know we don’t know each other very well other than being classmates in a few classes.  If you're not doing anything and are interested.  Would you like to get some coffee with me next Sunday? - Tommy  PS here’s my number if you say yes.
Roxanne smiled at that and turned her attention to Tommy before she opened the door.  “I have to check my calendar, but I’ll text you if I’m free.”  Then she headed out the door.
Tommy couldn’t stop grinning.  He did it!  He did it!  He did it!  He asked her out!  He asked Roxanne out!  Oh, could this day get any better?
“So, that's Roxanne?”
“What the fuck are you doing here Wilbur?!”

no one’s ever burnt you - never grow up
- SBI hero / AU
- WIP
Unlike what his family seems to think, Tommy’s not stupid . He can see the way they ignore the news, he can hear how the windows slid open at night- the shadows that passes by the blondes own before they leave. How they wince and hiss at covered wounds when they come home, how they ignore his questions as if they were poison.
He’s not stupid.
He knows he lives with three criminals, three criminals who appear on the news every other week, claiming a persons life as of it was nothing . He’s not stupid, he sees how Puppeteer has the same curly hair as his brother, how Bloodhound snarls just like his own- and how Nightwing holds the same hair that is a perfect match to his.
Tommy knows he lives with villains; but, he doesn’t think his family realizes how he winces at his own wounds, how his window is left a little open every night so he can slid through, how on some days, he’s so tried that he can’t even get out of bed from hours and hours of training. While he knows that his family is the feared syndicate, he doesn’t think they realize that he’s the new upcoming hero - Apollo - and that they laugh with one of the people they fight every week.
They don’t notice how they live with an underaged hero.
☀︎︎
Tommy pours cheerios into his bowl, frowning once realizing there’s no milk. “Dad forgot to go shopping’, I guess.” Huffing, he grabs a spoon and sits down, eating dry cereal, as he watches amusedly as Wilbur stumbles down the stairs. He snickers, the brunette shoots him the middle finger, which, rude.
“Nice bruise,” Tommy speaks through a blob of messed up cheerios, pointing out the black eye that his brother sports. “Fall down another staircase?” He’s being sarcastic, and Wilbur seems to recognize that as he burrows through the cabinets. “Something like that.”
Tommy, offhandedly, feels some level of guilt at the bruise - knowing the only reason he has a bruise is because Apollo had used Puppeteers face as a springboard last night in a last ditch effort to get away. Oops. He swallows down a chunk of cereal. “Stay away from staircases,” the blonde mumbles out, flicking a dry cheerio at the brunette. “Gremlin.” Is hissed out, as he gets another middle finger in response, and a comment half mumbled about rabies.
☀︎︎
Tommy realized he lived with three villains when he was thirteen, digging through his brothers closets in hopes of a new sweater - instead finding the masks of the most feared villains amongst the city. In all grown out honesty, he couldn’t bring himself to be scared, more so numb at the information. Because in the end, it made sense, the whispered conversations when he left the table- the nights where he wasn’t invited out with the rest of them; it made sense.
Despite that, he used to be bitter at the fact, bitter that he was left out, abandoned every planned out movie night - instead of watching some flashy new musical per Wilbur’s request, he watched as his family destroyed, or nearly get killed on live television.
He used to be bitter when he was thirteen, cold at the fact he was left out; now, he was fifth-teen and a had secret of his own, an unwilling hero.

The waves continued to lap against the shore. Push and pull. Breathe in, breathe out.
“What triggered it?”
The question was quiet, and so out of the blue it took Wilbur a moment to realize Tommy had asked it.
“What do you mean?” Wilbur asked.
“Your panic attack,” Tommy clarified, his hair tickling Wilbur’s cheek again. “Was it random, or did something trigger it?”

On the note of c!Dream and the Revolution and L’manburg in particular, I actually wanted to touch on another argument that I see sometimes that I’ve been thinking about lately re. L’manburg’s legitimacy. Because among some groups that are more L’manburg-positive, one take that I feel is decently common is the idea that L’manburg couldn’t be a government because it was only four, five, six people, that the size of the group meant that it was functionally incapable of the power attributed to it. In this, the assertion tends to be that because L’manburg is small, the power it holds is meaningless; it doesn’t have the power and provisions backing it that a regular “government” has, so L’manburg is fundamentally no different from a group of friends that believe in the same thing and therefore work together. The argument, here, seems to be that because the power of L’manburg as a government is manufactured, the power doesn’t actually exist in any meaningful way.
And the thing about L’manburg to me is that, well, the power being manufactured is...the point? Like. The whole point is that L’manburg doesn’t actually have jack shit to base itself off of, the whole point is that L’manburg is founded on a lie and writes itself into being treated as a legitimate entity through scapegoating other people in a story. That’s the reason why the mythos exists! The mythos needs to exist because it’s the foundation of L’manburg’s existence. Why does L’manburg exist? Because they were ~fighting against oppression~. Why does c!Wilbur have the power to do X, Y, and Z? Because if you’re opposing him you’re on the side of traitors and tyrants and enemies and get out of his fucking country. Just because L’manburg’s existing as a nation and government and what have you is illogical doesn’t prevent it from being treated as a legitimate country and government etc, because in the end people treated it as legitimate and therefore it had real power not only over its own land, but later on over how the entire server operated--see everyone being swept up in the elections, Manberg vs. Pogtopia, etc.
(What’s especially funny to me about this take is that in a lot of ways, it really reminds me of c!Dream’s opinion of L’manburg during the Revolution. Because while c!Dream definitely saw L’manburg as a threat in terms of the people who were declaring war against him, in terms of the...actual ideology? The whole government thing, “we’re going to be a separate server”? It’s pretty clear that c!Dream thinks that all of that makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. He calls L’manburg a “delusional small part” of the server because from his perspective, what the fuck do you MEAN you’re a government now? What do you mean you’re a separate country--scratch that, what do you mean you’re a separate SERVER? Game rules? Whitelist? What the fuck?? You’re a group of people threatening violence because you have a grudge against me, not revolutionaries fighting a nonexistent oppressive rulership like holy shit I’ve NEVER EVEN MET YOU BEFORE? c!Dream approaches L’manburg’s shit as illegitimate and ridiculous and nonsensical from the get go, because yeah, I mean--they’re literally just a small group of people, not the government they claim to be or that they claim they want to form, or whatever. But things...don’t stay that way.)
Like the whole point is that in the end, it doesn’t matter that c!Wilbur shouldn’t have been able to stick a flag in a piece of land, declare it as his own, make all these arbitrary rules about who could or couldn’t go inside and what they had to do and declare himself leader over these people and leverage joining his little club to keep them from opposing him and use all of that to threaten conflict against a guy he literally never even met before. Because...he did! And with the mythos established, no one challenged that. L’manburg’s policies and power and legitimacy and leadership and what the leader could and couldn’t do were all based in literally nothing and that didn’t matter because people acted like it was a real thing, so it became real. c!Dream fighting against L’manburg and discrediting its legitimacy at the beginning is part of what gives L’manburg legitimacy because the revolution ends up being used as the foundational story that made L’manburg a Real Thing. The elections and c!Quackity challenging c!Wilbur by running against him when the elections were originally rigged ends up reinforcing L’manburg’s legitimacy as the elections become a Real Thing and the leader of L’manburg as established by the elections are a Real Thing, etc. As long as people buy into L’manburg, as long as it’s TREATED as a real entity, then it remains real because that’s what people believe (which is part of why doomsday and L’manburg like, dying required the people within it to become disillusioned w/ the country so they didn’t feel inclined to rebuild it again.)
People treated L’manburg as a real entity with real power, which gave it real power over people. Nothing should’ve been in place that allowed c!Wilbur to declare a rigged election, or c!Schlatt to execute the Red Festival, or c!Tubbo to create an extrajudicial army that put c!Phil under house arrest and would extend its influence outside of its own land to kidnap c!Techno’s pet and execute him. The reality of the consequences of L’manburg do not depend on whether or not it should’ve logistically had the power to back up what it was trying to do but whether or not people actually treated it like it did, and they did. Just because L’manburg shouldn’t have been capable of acting like a government doesn’t mean that people didn’t treat it as a government the entire time--from its conception to its death, L’manburg was given a lot of power and influence comparable to that of a government because of what was granted to it that allowed the leader of the faction to do a lot of things without challenge or argument “for the country” both to people within the country’s borders and outside of it, and this very real power and influence wasn’t challenged or disturbed because people believed that it had a right to exist.
YES L’manburg was manufactured! YES that power didn’t make any sense! YES the legitimacy that L’manburg had as a government entity was basically a fucking crapshoot based on jack shit, and yes it had real power anyway. At the end of the day L’manburg was always treated w/ a level of power and legitimacy beyond just being a Group Of People, and therefore that power and legitimacy became real. L’manburg was a government because people treated it as one. L’manburg was powerful and legitimate and free and independent because that’s what the story said, and everyone believed the story, and that’s what’s important moreso than the logic of whether or not it had enough people to actually “be” a government in the first place.
