Hello!
I was wondering, how does working in a library looks like? Is it fun? What responsibilities are there? Would you mind telling about it?
Tumblr media
YES I want to talk about the library!! Always and any time!! Ask me any library questions and I will be excited to answer them!!
I will say that any experience in any library will depend on what role you were hired to fill. I would have a vastly different experience if I was hired to work in a college library with students, or in a medical library with student doctors, or in a law library, or in a private library or in an archive...There are lots of roles librarians fill, and each one is unique!
I, however, took every child psychology class my undergrad would let me, and now I work with the tiny babies! 🥰❤ (And the medium babies, and the preschoolers, and the kindergartners...)
I work in a public library, which means we serve a certain geographical area, and I work with a certain age group, which happens to be birth through K ages, which means that my role is to support the reading habits, language acquisition skills, and local educational efforts in town and in our school district for all the kids who fit that age group. Therefore, my responsibilities are to:
Manage the collection! This means that I make sure we're getting hot new kids books in, [especially kids books with huge educational value (ask me about how we judge this sometime)], that all the gross old busted books are tossed summarily, and that they fit our library's mission statement. Since I work with the little kids, I manage the Picture Book section, the Board Book section, the Early Reader section, the read-along books (CD books or chip-reading books), and sometimes the audiobooks and the kid tablets. I also have to know about the chapter books, graphic novels, nonfiction books, and tween/teen books, since kids will ask me about them at the youth services desk, but I don't manage those collections.
Provide programming! Librarians usually have a specialty in...something. Everyone finds their niche. It's guaranteed. This may be because most librarians are secretly neurodivergent but also because it's great to be good at something and have people learn to expect it. Some people are great at research in certain topics or know a lot about local resources or can lead certain craft programs that may be specialty only. Since I work with babies, My role is to provide a lot of storytime programs, age-appropriate craft programs, and help facilitate outside performers in the library to provide educational things I can't. (Ex. I don't know sign language, so I can't do sign language storytime. We hire someone to to this for us since it's not an easy thing to branch out.)
Perform outreach! Outreach is what it's called when the librarian shows up at your school and says "you know we have sonic comics, right?" And kids are like 'YOU HAVE SONIC??' And we're like, 'yeah, we have Dogman too'. Outreach can take many forms— Adult Services librarians might head to a community home or the food pantry or nursing homes to check out books and make library cards, but Youth Services librarians usually go to community centers, parks, and most importantly, schools! This is so that we can preach the good word of library cards to kids at an age where they can learn the values of never paying for books but still being voracious readers. Want a million books at home? Check out ten at a time, and you'll hardly ever run dry!
Now...is it fun?
I mean. I think so? I love my job; I get to see babies every day, I get to recommend the books I read as kids to kids now, and give them the hot new books when they need something more modern; I get to tell moms to stop being so weird about their kids' reading habits and just let them read comics, no, really, it has a massive impact on their willingness to fall in love with reading; I get to tell kids that they can get to pick out their own sticker if they clean up the toys when they're done playing (HUGE for them); I was trained to sing since I was yea high, and I love picture books as an art form, so planning storytimes is super fun and exciting for me! On the other hand, I'm basically performing half hour mini-shows once a week— or maybe even multiple times a week on outreach weeks— and have to have them scheduled months and months in advance before they're actually designed, and each one is new and untested. Every week. The performance anxiety can be unreal, even when I love what I'm doing. I love gossip, but I actually get overstimulated in rooms with a lot of active people for a long time, so some on-desk days can be stressful. People will harass you about changes upper admin make, but you're the one on the desk, do you're the one they yell at. My coworkers are all amazing and I love them, and that's pretty lucky, haha. The kids who see me come to their school ALL come up to me to tell me I visited ("I know, I was there! What book did you like the most?") and ask after the books and resources I showed them while I was there. I show them books and things from my childhood, things that are about to disappear. We sing songs older than some of the parents are and songs released last year. All things are give and take.
And sometimes on empty desk shifts, I write fanfic. So. ✨👍🏽📚
I would say that if you're interested in libraries, volunteer at your local one. A lot of things librarians will tell you about will sort of get washed aside when we try to infodump everything to you when you get your card. I'll be like "WE HAVE FREE WIFI HOTSPOTS AND MUSEUM PASSES" and people will be cleaning out their ears like "huh? What'd you say? Whatever." Volunteering is a great way to get out on the floor and get to know all the services public libraries offer. I got a two year degree in two years of working part-time and full-time, and now I make construction paper crafts for kids! I needed a Masters degree for that! Whack. Anyway being a librarian is like doing whatever you want and giving out freebies all at the same time, as long as you also do your homework and make sure your large collection of books is nice and clean and functional.
Also. Weed out all the racist books. "What but racist book #2 was my favorite! :(" Don't care. I work with early childhood education and baby books. If a kid sees that, their self esteem could be harmed irrevocably. Dump it.
Other roles in public libraries are different: you could work in circulation, collection development, marketing, tech services, adult services... But this is what I do! 💜📚💜

CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR, CHIEF INTERNATIONAL ANCHOR: Welcome to the program, everyone. I’m Christiane Amanpour in London.
For 10 straight days, protests have engulfed ever increasing parts of Iran. The most severe since the so-called Green Revolution of 2009. The fury this time is over women’s rights, especially the current hard-line government’s crackdown on the dress code. It erupted after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who had been hauled in over her headscarf by the Morality Police and died while in their custody 10 days ago.
State media and human rights group say that dozens have been killed in the violence so far. Despite internet restrictions and the harsh reaction of security forces. The protests show no sign of abating. In fact, they’re spreading. Demonstrations took place outside the Iranian embassies in London and Paris over the weekend.
Joining me now is Marjane Satrapi. A French-Iranian author and filmmaker who rose to global super stardom with her graphic novel “Persepolis” which tells a story of her coming of age in Iran during the birth of the Islamic Republic and her personal struggles with that oppressive environment
Marjane Satrapi, welcome to the program.
MARJANE SATRAPI, FILM DIRECTOR AND AUTHOR, “PERSEPOLIS”: Hello, Christiane. Thank you for having me.
AMANPOUR: So, I wanted to get your feeling as you watch what’s unfolding there. How does it make you react, given that you saw quite a lot of that when you were much younger and still growing up in Iran?
SATRAPI: Well, obviously it gives me lots of sadness because I — the situation doesn’t change. When I wrote “Persepolis”, it was this hope that, you know, we’re — we will be [living] in a better word and in a better Iran. The situation has not changed. It gives me lots of anger, but at the same time, it also gives me lots of joy because this revolt, these demonstrations, they’re extremely different from all whatever else we have seen here in Iran.
Actually...for example. The first demonstration against the veil, that was in 1980. The women went to the street to contest that they didn’t wanted to put veil. But not only they were alone, they were not so much supported by the men. But even the leftist opposition left them alone saying that the veil that was not their problem and that was a fight of social classes.
When that was a demonstration in 2009, the Green Movement, again that was a seek for a reform. They want, you know, the country to be transformed. And that was this reformist, the so-called reformist that were actually part of this system. Mousavi was the big leader but at the same time, he was the prime minister of Iran with — at the darkest time actually of the Islamic republic. And that was the reform.
...Now, what I see actually is a fight for the women, but the women, they are not alone. There are with boys. ...The boys and girls, they’re all this new generation.
AMANPOUR: Marjane, let me ask you because you said it’s very different this time. And you have been speaking to young people in Iran —
SATRAPI: Yes.
AMANPOUR: — from where you are in Paris. What are they saying to you?... Boys and girls, what are they saying to you?
SATRAPI: What they say to me is that they don’t want the system anymore. They want democracy. I mean, they don’t believe in the reform and their rights. Iran’s government is a dictatorship. If a dictatorship opens for reform, for being transformed, it stops being a dictatorship. Reform and dictatorship doesn’t go together.
So, this is something not possible. You cannot make this government to become a democratic government because it’s... a dictatorship. And they want a new — they want a new government. They want a new regime. They want a new system.
And I talked to them and this generation, they’re very, very different from us. I mean, we have to know that, you know, the time that the Islamic revolution happened, only 40 percent of Iranian people, they could read and write. Now, it’s above 80 percent of them.
This people they have — they’re born with internet. They have access, actually, to the information around the world. This new generation — first of all, they claim not to be sexist at all. You see — I mean, the big slogan is, zan, zindagi, azadi. Woman, life, freedom. And the Human rights
— I mean, the women rights is the human rights.
In any society, Iran or anywhere else in the world, if the women are repressed, if half of the population there were — they’re actually worth [less than] ... the other half just because of their gender, we cannot talk about democracy and human rights. Women right and human right is the same thing.
And this is something that they have understood.
So, that gives lots of hope because I always thought and I always believe that the biggest enemy of democracy is the patriarchal culture. Yet these young boys, this young — I spoke actually with one today, and he was like, of course, we are equal to the girls. Of course, there is no difference. And the — this generation, you cannot fool them like they fooled our generation. And Iranian people, in general, they’re much more secular than 40 years ago.
And this is exactly the basis of the problem. You have a government which is not absolutely in touch with its population. It doesn’t know what the population wants. They think they are the majority. They have a basis, for sure. But this is not the majority of the country. If the majority of the country was with the government, it would not be called a dictatorship again. And, yes ...knowing all of that, if a government is not in touch with its population that it cannot govern them because you have to know your people.
AMANPOUR: Well, we’ll talk about that in a minute because this has been going on for 40 years and more, as you’ve just said. But... just so people understand this battle with the Morality Police has been going on since the very early days of the revolution. And you, yourself, wrote about it, drew it in your book, “Persepolis”, and then it’s a scene obviously in, you know, in the film...
SATRAPI: Well, you know, the veil is — actually, this veil is the symbol of this Islamic. You know, it’s the big tree that hides a big forest. A veil is an excuse. I mean, when we were kids, I mean, they literally told us, men, when they will see your hair, they will become horny. And this is why you have to cover your hair.
So, I don’t know. I mean, if somebody by seeing my hair or by seeing my body, the reaction that it creates in this person is out of my business. That is their business. If they become horny, you know, they can take a cold shower, or I don’t know, go and see a shrink or try to look somewhere else, you know, to the sky or something. So, that is the way we grow up.
So, the way, itself — you know, like each year we fought a little bit to have one millimeter more of hair coming out. And it was another question of fashion, each millimeter of hair, for us, that we could show more, it was a step forward towards our freedom.
Because this veil, actually in Iran, means you, woman, you’re a sexual object that is just here for the desire of the man, you tempted the man. So, this is why for you not to create this temptation, you have to cover your hair.
Now, what they forget actually, in this society, the woman of this society, 60 percent of the students in Iran, they are girls, and our best they are girls. They only Nobel Prize that they have had in the history of Iran was won by the woman. The biggest medal in mathematics, science was won by Maryam Mirzakhani in Iranian woman. The Iranian novelist, the women, they are the one that are the most translated, the most read, et cetera, et cetera. I just saw, you know, in America, they published the name of the 10 most successful bankers in the U. S., and three of them, they are Iranian women.
They have this highly educated, extremely powerful, extremely intelligent women, and they tell them you have to cover your hair because we might get tempted by you. Well, just don’t get [tempted].
You know, I mean they reduced the woman to this — to the — to just a piece of me.
AMANPOUR: Yes.
SATRAPI: And if you want to talk about a piece of me for the Iranian people, you know, raw, medium, or well-cooked, a mawla (ph) is a mawla
That’s not going to change....
AMANPOUR: But in fact, the Morality Police are more aggressive and less aggressive over the last period of 20 plus years, depending on which president is in power. So, the question I have for you is certainly a lot of expats hope and a lot of people there hope that this is the end of this dictatorship as you put it.
But is it? We’ve seen protests come and go and we’ve seen them be brutally put down.
SATRAPI: Yes, I know. But every movement that has been a suppressed and has been put down has put us a little bit forward.
You know, democracy is a culture. Is — actually, is an education. You have to have a democratic culture, actually, to inspire to the democracy. Otherwise, it does not work. We have the example of Afghanistan, for example.
So, when you have this youth that want a change, maybe it will not happen today and maybe it will, you know, let’s not lose our hope. Maybe it will happen. But this is the basis, you know, of the future. The future of this kids that are 20 years old now. The future of the country is not some old bearded guy sitting, you know, somewhere hiding from the population. These are the future. And this is the people of Iran.
And when people they want equality, when people they want freedom, after a while it breaks down. Never forget — we should never forget that Soviet Union with all their KGB, everything, for 70 years, you know, they were big dictators. We are right. We are right. At then they explode because the human being is made for freedom.
And this whole idea that human rights is a westerner conception. No, it’s not a westerner conception. It’s a standard for living and it concern all the human being. And again, this question of veil and the police of that, you know, if I — me, as a person, I don’t have the right to wear what I want or to show my hair or not to show my hair. How do you expect me to have the right to think or to express myself or to express myself or to choose for myself?

Hello RDHero, I have a fic rec. Spare the Rod by dementian on ao3 is a very well written, epic saga of a fic if you like a/b/o that explores the social dystopia that happens when secondary genders and patriarchal systems get out of control. Despite the length and darker parts, it’s not purely depressing and keeps your interest throughout. It reminded me of tsgdt in that there is a defiant omega/guide challenging a flawed system, but beyond that they are two very different stories with different themes. But both stories are grounded and plot heavy for their genre, which is why I wanted to tell you about this fic. I also saw that you watched downton abbey back in the day, and this is a downton abbey fic centered around Thomas, a working class omega. The scenario it sets up where a/b/o meets the Edwardian class system is a double whammy. Don’t let the Robert/Thomas tag put you off, it’s a precautionary tag. There’s a main love interest that I won’t spoil, but his presence is an interesting incorporation of a real “historical” figure into an a/b/o fic universe.
I’m reccing an a/b/o fic first because you’ve written in that genre before and I rather hoped it would catch your interest. But in case you’re looking for something less dark and “out there”, Dementian’s other downton fics are very good. They have an almost original fiction quality to them, where the plot stands on it’s own with twists and resolutions, while at the same time being intrinsically connected to core characterizations and well researched canon historical settings.
Bad Harvest, in particular, might be up your alley. It’s an m/m/m crime thriller with hints of dom/sub. (There’re ropes and DP if that’s up your alley.) Beyond being hot and plotty, it also has a super well written female character whose steely strength and kindness is a joy to read, and villains that are three dimensional and human. If you enjoy Thomas barrow and co. that’s a bonus, but you could honestly read it as an original fic. Both fics are around 500k, a word of warning for those who are looking for short and sweet. But as someone who has never read anything over 100k, these flew by. I felt rather spoiled by the author, as if I were reading a series of published novels (albeit less marketable novels that had graphic m/m smut and grey moral decision making.) As someone who usually prefers original work, I was able to get lost in these two fics and hope you might find some enjoyment out of them as well.
Wow, thank you, i'm definitely going to check this out. "Can be read as original" is like music to my ears. Now that I'm thinking about it, I feel like I was reading a Downton Abbey omegaverse wip back in the day ... maybe this is the same one!

Favorite books: jesus christ this is a hard first question. almost all are favorites during the moments I read them
Favorite authors: MARY ROACH, Toni Morrison, Alison Bechdel, and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting at the moment
Favorite genres: SPECULATIVE FICTION, horror, magical realism, GOOD sci-fi & fantasy (very fine line), satire, and graphic novels but also I think graphic novels shouldn't really be their own "genre"
Currently reading: The Firekeeper's Daughter, American Short Fiction 2021 anthology, The Sisters of Dorley, A Raisin in the Sun (actually just finished but I'm still counting it for now until I finish teaching it, aka infinite re-reading)
To-read list: The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World, American Psycho, The Angel Maker, Walking Practice, Fun Home, Giovanni's Room
Loved as a kid: Eragon series, Eon series, The Little Prince, Warriors series, Under the Dome, Atlas of the Human Body, The Silence of the Lambs (who let me check this out from the library at 11 years old???). can you imagine being an author and having this incredible power to so fundamentally shape the way some young person grows into their person-hood? I imagine this is why people become authors in the first place
Preferred book length: 200-300 pages. 400 can be good from some authors if they're really into the worldbuilding, but beyond that gets grating. less than 200 also can be good from some authors, but usually not enough development for me
Couldn't finish: this is hard because I love to hate-read. Their Vicious Games was a book for a YA lit class last semester and it just was soooo lame. fine concept but the author was just missing OPPORTUNITY after OPPORTUNITY to make it actually GREAT..... not even bad enough to hate-read so fuck this book. YA lit is so so so needed for actual kids but I cannot standdddddd most of it now that I've been exposed to more nuanced books
Fiction or nonfiction: weeps. wails. do I really have to answer this one. I guess fiction because I can hold a longer conversation about it with more people, whereas nonfiction usually needs to be a convo with someone who already cares about that niche. Also unfortunately nonfic authors who care about the artistry as much as fiction writers are harder to find
Buy, library, or read online: libgen.rs my best friend libgen.rs  I would be 100% for library tho if only they had the books I actually wanted. but I do go to my library often to study and play on their piano :3
Most-read author, but that I can't recommend: hmm idk if I have one. I have read a LOT of Stephen King :middle_finger: oh also Malcolm Gladwell pisses me off
Favorite book character: hmm who do I still wonder about... a character I still question... Nel and Sula, from Paradise. especially interesting because you have to talk about them both as two halves of a whole character. especially interesting because I don't particularly like them as people. especially interesting because I still feel intimate connections to them as people. I am so absolutely Gripped by the questioning.
Book(s) that got me back into reading again: Watershed by Percival Everett. the kind of book that makes me want to read so badly that I have to WRITE
tagging anyone who wants to do it :))) Hello Book Fans im so curious

Shingeki no Kyojin Headcanons: 104th training corps (College AU - Outfits pt I)
Hello, Postmodernbeing here. I decided to continue writing about this College AU , only this time, I'm making some outfits HCs, since I'm working in a oneshot and this visuals could be helpful. Also, it seemed like a lot of fun so I've decided to give it a try. Hope y'all like this. Much love.
IMPORTANT: I do not own Shingeki no Kyojin nor the trend of this outfits-displays, only this HCs belong to me. // Contains spoilers (for the icons that I used in some characters) // English is not my first language, so I ask for your patience and understanding.
Tumblr media
Eren Yeager
Chains and rings of stainless-steel. Combat boots matching faux-leather jackets with studs and pins from bands.
Has a few flannel shirts (that he stole from Zeke, his brother doesn't mind, tho). But for the most part, Eren's shirts are from merch of bands with a few (handmade) changes.
Eren likes to sew badly on purpose some patterns or figures by following quick tutorials. All his clothes are modified or drawn over.
While his main looks are metal head alike, he also wears snickers, hoodies, sporty pants, and jackets to class. Pretty laid back, he looks as he just woke up from a nap all the time tbh.
Sometimes goes skating but he’s not that good, his skateboard is more of a fashion statement really.
Has both ears pierced around (lobe type) and tattoos on both arms.
It’s pretty obvious to this point, but I’ll say it anyways: Eren wears black religiously. Definitely he’s open to darker shades of any color, but must wear something black at least.
Tumblr media
Mikasa Ackerman
Our girl wears black clothes mostly. She doesn’t have a preference between skirts/dresses or pants, but you’ll rarely see her wearing jeans.
Many skirts and ripped tights to match with platform boots or classic converse. Also owns a large wardrobe with different hoodie and shirt sizes and designs yet mostly in dark shades.
Lots of necklaces and rings with perforations to match, none in her face yet lots in her ears. Mikasa has only one tattoo: Azumabito’s clan logo.
Speaking about Azumabito’s, whenever she’s working with them, she wears faux leather jackets at most, and her classic red turtleneck. Nothing too exaggerated nor formal.
A total goth since middle school, and even though in college finds it a bit unpractical, she tries to keep it as loyal to her style as possible.
Books and notebooks are part of her attires. She’d be writing or reading at any time that’s possible. Not always about her classes, tho. She also likes novels and arts. An artsy goth, perhaps?
Tumblr media
Armin Arlert
Sky blue is his color. Matching it with classy pants and blazers in clear colors.
His wardrobe looks like one that belongs to an aristocrats’ son. Some light-academia realness.
He can pull off some casual looks with sneakers but it’s more common for him to wear his oxfords, cap toes or moccasins to class, or anywhere really.
Cardigans, vests and blazers are his best friends as soon as autumn arrives. Always in colors such as beige, green, brown, and grey.
Armin is easily the best dressed from all his group of friends, and I’m not even open to discuss this. Let’s just remember his canon outfits throughout the four seasons. Even in a Modern AU he’ll keep being the king he is.
Not a big fan of accessories though. Except for his handkerchiefs that match his blazers. Since his grandfather used to choose his clothes, he taught Armin that a handkerchief was a gentleman’s must carry. Now he wears them only to pay his grandpa honor, as a lesson more so.
Tumblr media
Jean Kirstein
King of brown jackets and turtlenecks. Really, his wardrobe is in such color harmony. It’s impressive.
Little to no accessories besides an occasional scarf or a single ring matching some bracelet.
Although he’s used to wear a consistent type of clothes and even colors, he wouldn’t dare to define a style for himself, is it boho? art hoe? dark academia? Maybe we’ll never know.
Zero perforations only because he’s scared of pain, but Jean is really drawn into them, so he uses fake ones for his ears sometimes. Has only one little hidden tattoo, made when he started college and lost a bet against Sasha and Connie.
Jean’s always stylish, clean, and smelling like cologne. He also has an extensive routine for shaving, combing his hair and trimming his beard.
Second best dressed of all his friends. Lowkey loves fashion but keeps it for himself (and Marco). Plus, in her mother’s house he keeps more clothes than his dorm' wardrobe can storage.
Tumblr media
Marco Bodt
Colorful, youthful, and casual, that’s his style. Marco’s clothes reflect his joyful personality and every time he enters a room, he brightens the mood so easily.
A lot of denim and if he’s not wearing bright colors, you can be sure he’s caring something white with him (a bandana, a baseball cap, a scarf or his sneakers).
Shares with Jean a special appreciation for clothing, except Marco prefers more laidback and casual outfits.
Has no tattoos but recently got both ears pierced. He decided to since he really likes the earrings that k-pop idols wear.
If spring was a wardrobe, Marco would have it. I can’t stress this enough. Just so pretty and genuine.
Also, he definitely uses accessories (small jelly or colorful rings, bracelets of all kinds and simple necklaces) but there's more, he uses objects that are not meant to as accessories too. Such as band aids and small stickers around his face, skates in his backpack and flowers in his pockets.
Tumblr media
Sasha Blouse
Unironically messy style. No matching patterns nor colors, different textures and sizes that made little to no coordination in her outfits. Unaesthetic is her aesthetic.
She likes baggy jackets and jeans with big pockets for snacks obviously, midi-skirts and graphic tees. Sasha is the definition of zero fucks given and still looking cute.
Of course, she knows how to pull off some cool outfits, it’s just that she doesn’t care that much unless is specifically required.
Not a big fan of accessories besides belts (maybe) and her backpack. Unless we’re talking about bucket hats that became a must wear thanks to Connie.
“Borrows” Nicolo’s hoodies/shirts that wears with her favorite threads. Then plays dumb when her bf asks her about his clothes. They both secretly love that dynamic.
Sasha plays it safe when it's about her hairstyle, also not a big fan of makeup -at least not the way Mikasa or Historia do-, but she’s open to try new things if her best friends dare her to.

Connie Springer
King of striped shirts and golden chains. His style is mainly urban and youthful. Conniegod remains unmatched in his awesomeness even in a Modern AU, if you ask me.
Owns a collection of sneakers that wears with his numerous printed socks. So creative and colorful.
Also, Connie has a small collection of unique shaped tinted glasses, also bucket hats and simple stainless steel chains.
Has small fun tattoos around his legs and arms, ears pieced but nothing too grunge. Speaking of which, he matches religiously his earrings with his chains that hang of his belt.
Usually wears dress pants or cargo pants. Anything but denim or really skinny fitted pants. Coincidentally, most of his shirts are loose too.
Definitely brings his skateboard with him all the time so it’s part of the outfit, really (Eren tried to copy that from Connie, let’s be honest). He’s so good at skating, and when he doesn’t feel like walking around campus, skating is always a good idea.

Hey!! could I play the game with Harry Potter? Could I have the characters from the golden era: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Seamus, Draco, Fred and George and also from the marauders: James, Remus, Sirius, Lilly. If one era counts as one fandom, then just the golden era for now please 🤗
I’m am a female, with the nationality French/British, and I go by she/her pronouns, I'm 173, I have short brown curly hair, with brown almond shaped eyes and fair-ish skin and big chest, with the curves. I'm an INFJ and my enneagram is 9, I am a leo and a slytherin. I am quite shy and soft spoken, and incredibly introverted with social anxiety but once I know, trust and love a person you can't quite get me to shut up. I’d say I’m quite sarcastic and witty naturally and being socially anxious doesn’t stop me from making offhanded comments sometimes. I’m also a hot head, I get angry really quickly and I usually keep it contained, I do burst sometimes and can get rather aggressive, it’s not the best but I’m working on it. So I’d say I feel emotions deeply and pick up on others emotions too. I’ve been called sensitive but I hate it, I think just because I cry when I feel intense emotions doesn’t mean I’m sensitive.
My style is quite bright with funky patterns and I like colour with my makeup(on the eyes). My favourite colours are red and yellow. I love to do art specifically painting and doodles, I’ve done a couple of pieces that I would like to get tattooed on me, I also love reading - my apartment is running out of space for my books, I like all kinds of genres, I gravitate towards more non-fiction but also graphic novels, I’m love Deadly Class and currently reading Watchmen.
I love to bake, everything really from cakes to breads, I love a challenge. I also enjoy hiking and cycling, I love to cycle to clear the mind. And I really enjoy scouring second hand shops and sites, I (probably like others) love being able to find things for cheaper even when i could get them new, I’ll spend ages on Marktplaats which is like the Dutch eBay I guess. I am passionate about the sex industry and the rights for women (men) and children within it and power role within the industry and society. I am also a hopeless romantic, I love all love and love to be loved, love and see it around me.
Hello buddy ! Yep sure ! Nah , all the eras are considered under Harry Potter fandom ! Aww dear , it's okay if you're not sensitive or hate being called that even if you aren't but just remember that being sensitive doesn't mean being weak , infact many sensitive people are the strongest ones you'll ever meet ! Being sensitive is a gift of god , do not forget to embrace it if you have it :)

Harry Potter
His thoughts about you
Are you both twins ? Cause that's what he thinks too . I think if you would've participated in the Harry Potter life game , I would've definitely made you his twin . Ohmy god ! How can you both be so similar . Harry always checks on your mistakes to prevent his , ya know . You both are super strong , brave and introverted together and no one understands Harry like you do , and he's grateful for that . Though you both clash a lot , he still is happy to have someone like you by his side . Harry never liked being called as weak , and you don't like being called sensitive (or maybe weak ?) So , you both get each other's back when someone calls you so .
Your relationship
Bestiesss , but I see this either turning into bro-sis or bestiess . I don't know , but I can't imagine you both being lovers lol . You both are too similar to ya know , love each other in that way , that's what I feel .
First impressions
He's gonna like your sarcasm from the beginning heheh , especially because you sass Malfoy out ryt in front of him 😂and the trio (even Hermione) couldn't hold back their laughter.
Hermione Granger
Her thoughts about you
She's fine with you until you don't talk her ear off while she's trying to study . She'll love how you're always there for Harry and Ron , but she might not like how you loose your cool often . She'll also scold you a lot , but it's upon you if you care hahhaa . She's not going to approve your hopeless romantic side , but she'll not mind it either . She'll be glad to find someone who's more towards non-fiction hehehe . She's gonna like you , but don't expect her to not scold you hehehe .
Your relationship
Friends ! I mean close friends too .
First impressions
As said , she really liked how you boldly sass Malfoy , but she wouldn't like it if you did that to a professor hahaha .
Ronald Weasely
His thoughts about you
He worries about you a lot . That's because he really loves you as a friend . He would never want to see you hurt and he'll often stand up for you . He knows the best ways to reassure you and handle your aggressiveness . You can often then more pick up on his feelings too, which makes it easier for him . Atleast he doesn't have to convey them and be all dramatic .
Your relationship
Bestiess . ... But has more potential .. like you both could date , not sure if It would work out .
First impressions
He was like - "she's bloody brilliant, Harry !" He was impressed by you in the first go . And he really wanted to be friends with you . Yeah in the beginning it was tough , but later , it wasn't with anyone else that you got along so good with (except Harry sometimes hehe)
Neville Longbottom
His thoughts about you
I can't help but see how you get along with everyone in this fandom hahaha . He loves how he can share his anxiety problems with you . He's super shy too , so he'll find comfort in you . Your sarcasm might take him off guard sometimes , but mostly , he'll be super fun with you . He'll be himself , he'll be free and he'll have no pressure of proving himself . He'll love how you make him feel , but we all know Neville's a fighter at the end of the day . Even though he finds solace in your company , he'll not stay there long enough .
Your relationship
Really close and strong bonded friendship
First impressions
He really thought of you as someone who's just like him . But when you opened up , he realised you weren't.
Seamus Finnigan
His thoughts about you
He might not be that friendly with you first , and that's what he regrets a lot . Because on seeing your fun side , he's in kinda love with you . OOO. You got an admirer hahah . He'll definitely ask you out in the fourth year ! He thinks your shyness , which is hiding such a vibrant personality is a perfect example of why someone shouldn't judge a book by it's cover . Your sarcasm is gonna make him laugh always.
Your relationship
Hehe it's upon you if you wanna date him, i feel it has a lot chances to work.
First impressions
As said earlier , he didn't talk a lot with you . Inshort he didn't care much , until he saw you with Dean , being super fun and it intrigued him to know you .
Draco Malfoy
His thoughts about you
Hmm...he hates you when you know what he feels . He just calls you sensitive to get under your skin (successfully) but he secretly knows how strong you are . And he admires that sometimes . Even though he has no hate to give you , he'll not be good with you . Super Meany , but super blushy when you catch his feelings (like if he really wants to be mean or is just doing it for his image) . He'll not like when you sass him , and he'll not spare you until you literally get all agressive .
Your relationship
Could be enemies to lovers . I wouldn't recommend you dating him though , because I don't think he'll be able to handle your agressive-ness and you won't be able to handle his coward nature . Seamus is better .
First impressions
Oh please , I can't even measure the amount of underestimation . He literally thought he could pick up on you ...
Fred and George Weasley
Their thoughts about you
Hmmm.. they're okay with you . They like how you're fun and stuff but they'll not prank you because they've seen your agressive and bursting out side .
Your relationship
They're your bestfriend's(maybe even boyfriend's) siblings hahah .
First impressions
Oh they thought you're innocent little lost Princess hahaha . But they were about to prank you .. and maybe they did too , but seeing your anger , they thought of teasing you more but Molly scolded them the following vacation and surprisingly they agreed on not troubling you . Because maybe they had better reactive people (sorry Fred and George are meanies)
James Potter
His thoughts about you
While in lightning era , if he were alive , he'd love you and you'd strongly remind him of Harry , always . Because I feel like Harry might have a few fights with James , when you'll comfort James... In the marauder's era , he'll like you and you both might even be really close , but he has his own temper so I think you both might get into pretty ugly fights with each other .
Your relationship
He's your (can-be-called) family in lightning era . But in marauder's , he's your friend .
First impressions
He underestimated you , kinda because you were shy and stuff and James is exact opposite of shy , that is bold . He didn't think you both could get along , considering the fact that you're Slytherin .
Lily Potter (neè Evans)
Her thoughts about you
Hmm.. she'll love your shy as well as fun side . She'll also love how feisty your sarcasm is lol . She'll help you open up when you're being super shy and anxiety is hitting you . In lightning era , if she were alive , she'd appreciate your presence with Harry , but she would scold all three of you for your hot-headedness
Your relationship
Friends ! She's your (can-be-called) family in lightning era
First impressions
She was in a class with you , so you both were working on a project together lol . She saw how you were actually interested in non -fiction and you both had loads of discussion on different things !
Sirius Black
His thoughts about you
Hmmmmm...in lightning era , he's actually fine with you and you and Harry are super similar to him . He's always gonna be confusing to you though ... One time he'll listen to you , one time he won't . So buckle up to deal with him lol . In marauder's era , he might consider you really innocent and kinda angel types , so he might flirt with you a lot to fluster you while you're being shy , but I'm sure you'll shock him with your fun side and he might fall for you then hehehhe. He'll also find your hopeless romantic thingy duper cute but I think he'll not admit that easily hhehe .
Your relationship
I might ship you with him in marauder's era . In lightning era , he's your bestfriend's godfather lol.
First impressions
He thought of you as someone who has nothing to do with playboy's , but he was also in love with your sarcasm . Absolutely had no innocent thoughts about you .
Remus Lupin
His thoughts about you
Yeah he was fine with you . Okay let's face the truth that you got along super well . He'll always be there to comfort you and handle your anger , while you'll be there with him for his werewolf issues . In lightning era , he'll be super helpful to you as a professor .
Your relationship
Maybe bestiess in marauder's era ofc . You both always would have a really close and deep bond even without meeting each other everyday
First impressions
Ahh , he was the only one who threw you a comforting and forgiving smile when you literally bursted out and needed space . So yeah he was kind with you from the beginning and that's how you bonded .
Don't forget to interact (i.e like or reblog) with this post .
Thank you for the immense motivation you gave me !

SORRY I WROTE AN ENTIRE AUTOBIOGRAPHY BUT THANK YOU SOO MUCH!
Also I'll reblog on my main! It's just in case the matchups are actually closed or sum I don't wanna seem stupid on my main acc 💀 THANKS
Ok so I want my matchup for Attack on Titan 💪🏼
As for age range, keep it as people who were in the 104th! Aka teenagers lol
I'm male and bisexual but I sort of have a preference for men
I'm tan with brown hair, uhh ngl I'm pretty short 🗿I mean I'm still average but on the shorter side, I just gotta be honest here 😬 LMFAO but I don't think I'm ugly though, my eyes are dark brown and I think I have nice eyebrows?
As for my personality: ok so I'm ENTP and yeah I'm pretty loud, people say I'm funny and I hope so, I love going to big parties, I HAVE VERY MUCH FOMO (fear of missing out) and therefore ALWAYS involved in some sort of fight on accident 😂😂 some not-so-good traits I have would be I have seperation anxiety WHICH ISNT BAD just can probably get annoying for others. I want someone really understanding. I can have a bad temper, but I don't take it out on my friends, more so I get into problems bc of it! I kinda want someone who can calm me down for that 😅
As for hobbies: LOVE COMICS, VIDEOGAMES (story videogames only), I LOVE DRAWING, I actually really like watching wrestling as well 😄, AND I LOVE DEBATE (friendly debate ofc).
Also I'm really good at any musical instruments cause I've been playing the viola for 9 years 😶 so yeah people ask me for answers for music class
as for likes: I love tacos, pizza, donuts, parties, having philosophical discussions on the kitchen counter at 11:00 pm very strong on that actually
I really like people who are good listeners! And who are, god I hate using this word, but uh geeky? UGH I HATE USING THAT WORD!! but yes people who are into comics and videogames and all of that 💪🏼
Dislikes: READING GODDD I HATE READING IM SORRY I LOVE COMICS AND GRAPHIC NOVELS BUT GOD NO I HATE READING
As in people, I really don't like rude people, ik that's kinda basic but I really don't. I also don't like (in a romantic way, I love these people as friends) overly smart people or overly dumb people, WHICH IS MEAN but like overly smart people make me feel dumb, and overly dumb people I can't trust to help me with homework 😶
And yeah I'm currently a student but I plan on becoming an occupational therapist (aka kinda just someone who works with kids who have a disorder I have and struggled with growing up 😅)
Love languages: I love both quality time and physical touch but also appreciate words of affirmation. I feel like I just ruined the whole point of this since I said everything 💀
But yeah in general quality time is my favorite to both give and receive! Like when you're together and just having a good conversation alone?? My favorite thing! Especially if it's in the kitchen at 11:00 Pm
But yes I want this matchup to be romantic, and for anyone I don't want...again just nobody old and not Mikasa ONLY CAUSE SHE REMINDS ME TOO MUCH OF MY SISTER 😂😂😂 IT WOULD WEIRD ME OUT LOL
THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN IM SO SORRY FOR WRITING MY ENTIRE LIFE STORY LMFAO ITS A BAD HABIT I NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING LOL
Hello lovely anon! You assure you that you’re perfectly fine! I appreciate all the details of your request :) I hope you’re having a wonderful day!
Also, I’m so sorry this actually took forever :,D I had trouble picking and choosing characters because I feel like you can get along with A LOT of people.
I match you with..
JEAN KIRSTEIN
Tumblr media
Jean would match your energy and your tastes so well. He’s your natural one-up for parties, and the two of you could share a brain cell, for better or for worse. You’re both very sociable and can have rather intellectual and philosophical thoughts. He can seem like a hardass at first glance, though he has a huge soft spot for you. If anyone picks a fight with you, you know he’ll have your back and won’t hesitate to throw some hands for you. He’s a bit rough around the edges and can be crude in calling out someone’s BS, but he’s fiercely loyal and protective for you.
He really loves spending time with you, and he’s very adamant about including you in group outings. It just doesn’t feel the same without you. He’s a super romantic guy, but he would definitely try to act cool about it, even if Connie and Sasha are ragging on him in the background. He’d be a bit quieter when it’s just you and him alone, but that’s just because he’s very comfortable with you. He can say anything that’s on his mind, and you can do the same. Overall, your relationship is very exciting, energetic, and communicative.
Headcanons:
Like you, Jean loves a good conversation and would love to challenge you in debates. He’s good at coming up with counterarguments so the exchange can just keep on going. You could spend the whole day having a theoretical debate with each other and not realize it. Sometimes, your voices could escalate to the point where it sounds like you’re ARGUING arguing, but you and Jean are really just having a very passionate debate.
Jean thinks he looks good playing string instruments, but he’s not that knowledgeable in music. He usually comes to you for music tutoring, though he mostly likes it because he can hang out with you.
You’ve made a habit to have taco/pizza nights with Jean. It’s not the most “romantic” date, but it’s absolutely perfect. You usually take turns paying for each other’s food and try a different kind of taco or pizza everytime. If he notices you’re feeling down for some reason, he’ll surprise you with a donut.
Behind all his grandeur, Jean can be very soft and quiet with you, as mentioned before. While he’s listening to you talk, he sometimes just brushes a knuckle along the frame of your face. He’s also really tall, so it’s easy for his eyes to just wander down to you.
Late night talks with Jean are the most intimate. You two are just alone in the kitchen. Jean is probably cooking omelettes for you to impress you, while you sit on the counter and talk about anything. Sometimes you may talk about the grey areas of morality or you may talk about the characterization of some heroes and villains from video games or comic books. He mostly listens to you, but he’d also give you an honest answer of what he thinks.
He really loves that you spend time with him because it makes him feel appreciated, and he feels energized being with his loved ones. Though, he would notice if you feel anxiety of being left out, and he would be quick to address it. He does everything he can to understand you and to make sure you also feel appreciated.
Other potential matches:
Bertholdt Hoover
Tumblr media
Pairing with Bertholdt for you is almost like when opposites attract. Your more extroverted and outspoken personality compliments Bertholdt’s more introverted and quiet personality, and you both tend to favor quality time. He would be so happy to just be near you, albeit he can be shy about it. He’d honestly be quite starstruck and amazed by your outgoing nature, and it takes him forever to talk to you. He likely shares some of your niche interests in comics and videogames, which he would have a lot of thoughts and feelings on but he doesn’t share them openly. He’s not at all confrontational for debating, but he does have a lot of introspective thoughts and is extremely observant. He can be a calming and gentle presence for you, especially when you might need reassurance. He also has perfect hands for hand holding, and the utter height difference is really cute. He would be one to truly appreciate and admire you and your goals.
Historia Reiss
Tumblr media
She’s a very thoughtful person and can round out some of your rougher edges, and she’s super encouraging and supportive of you. She usually settles fights before they happen, and she’s the type to stick by your side no matter what happens. Surprisingly stubborn, she would also call you out on your temper and would be there for you to help deal with your temper. She might not be as extroverted as you, but she loves a good party, especially if it’s with you. She’s an attentive listener and would be genuinely interested in your perspective on things. You could hold a conversation forever with her, and she would ask questions to keep your train of thought going late into the night. She would also be a big fan of your artwork and drawings.
———
I hope this was alright!
Please look over this post before submitting a matchup request :) Thanks!

hey! just curious if you know - do the blue wraith graphic novels create a “canon” world-state (ie. they mention the hero, champion, inquisitor or their choices) or do they leave that mostly vauge? i know some of the earlier comics had alistair in them - but in my origins he died so i just didn’t feel like reading them because i felt like it conflicted with that lol
Hello! This became a bit long so I put it under a cut.
So in a general sense: the first 2 novels are an integral part of all canon. Because they’re set before the events of DAO, they’re a part of the world’s history/backstory in all possible worldstates. The same is the case for Last Flight, as it’s set way back in history, so these 3 are like prequels.
Then more broadly speaking, all of the rest of the novels (including TN) and the Dark Horse comics are canon material, in the sense that they follow the ‘novels and comics worldstate’ that BioWare chose to set them in, or chose to have them set in. (The ‘novels and comics worldstate’ is technically a different thing to the in-game ‘default choices worldstate’. The ‘default choices worldstate’ is the one you get if you don’t import saves in earlier games or don’t use the Keep in DAI. The ‘default’ settings were kept as basic/minimal as possible for the purpose of simplicity/accessibility, because the devs didn’t want new players being confused by those returning characters that are optional/quantum who they had never met before, or by complex ongoing plots that they had no existing investment in the resolution of. It’s designed to be as clean a slate as possible. So in that world, the HoF died stopping the Blight, Kieran doesn’t exist in any form, etc. The ‘default’ worldstate doesn’t affect anything outside of it, so it doesn’t affect the ‘novels and comics worldstate’ or custom player worldstates.)
Back to the ‘novels and comics worldstate’: DG has said that for the non-prequel novels and comics, if a player’s choices line up with the events in those stories, those events unfolded as-shown and future games will reflect this. He then explained that if a player’s choices don’t line up, then the events unfolded in a different way somehow or simply didn’t at all in some cases. As an example, it’s easy enough to imagine Warden Alistair embarking on the same quest/plotline to find his father as King Alistair does in the comics, just as a Warden instead of a reigning monarch. Or in Asunder, if the HoF never recruited certain partymembers during the Blight, to imagine them still showing up somehow and just omitting the parts where they referenced meeting and/or being with the HoF (kinda like Garrus showing up to be recruited anyway in ME2 even if you didn’t recruit him in ME1).
For the ‘Inquisition-era’ comics specifically (I think of these as the ones written by Greg Rucka, so Magekiller, and the ones written by Christina Weir & Nunzio DeFilippis, so Knight Errant, Deception, Blue Wraith and the upcoming Dark Fortress), it feels like the same ‘novels and comics worldstate’ as the earlier-era comics, as in them Alistair is King*. In terms of your question there are a few specific things, but it’s left mostly vague and they don’t like name/gender/class or mention the race or LIs of the PCs or anything. A few choices are depicted though - for example (hope these aren’t too much of a spoiler, trying to balance answering with not spoiling comic storybeats!), some of the optional Inquisition partymembers either make an appearance in an Inquisition-related context or from a particular detail in the comics clearly exist as Inquisition members, so the Inquisitor in this worldstate obviously chose to recruit [X] and [Y] and then to not send them away/kill them etc. Off the top of my head there’s also a place where one outcome of a minor DAI sidequest-type thing (like ‘war table operation & generic NPC models’-minor) is assumed, so the Inquisitor in this worldstate obviously chose to pursue that particular outcome of that sidequest. Also an optional DA2 partymember shows up (other than Fenris himself I mean), so Hawke probably chose to recruit them in this world.
Since Blue Wraith specifically focuses a lot on Fenris, by necessity in the ‘novels and comics worldstate’ Hawke clearly recruited and then didn’t kill Fenris. Fenris in these comics could have been both unromanced or romanced however, as while he’s not written specifically as if he and Hawke were together, he’s written without any reference to romance, so either scenario is feasible. Friendship/Rivalry also feels like it could be either or. As for the events in Kirkwall in DA2, they’re not specifically referenced. For the big one - the mages vs Templars choice - although Fenris is written as if he fought in defense of the mages with Hawke and friends at the end of the game, the story is still designed to work if Hawke sided with the templars too. iirc the comic writers found that writing Fenris in a Templar-siding Hawke worldstate would make his comic role not work for people who sided with the mages, whereas writing him in a sort-of mage-siding-Hawke worldstate allowed both paths to hold up:
We never reference what specifically happened in Kirkwall. But his interactions with mages are not characterized by wanting them all dead. This is a Fenris who hates the [Tevinter] mageocracy and is wary of those who seek too much power via magic. And he loathes slavers and has been killing them. So if your Fenris sided with mages, he will fit here. If your Fenris sided with Templars, he’ll still work - but his rage is focused on slavers to allow both versions to work. We found that writing him as if he sided with the Templars would break anyone’s Fenris who didn’t, but writing him this way allowed both paths to work. At least, that was our plan - you’ll decide if we pulled it off to your satisfaction. [source]
So tl;dr you may not feel like reading them if in your DA2 Fenris died, as that scenario is contradicted by the comics, is what I’d say. Other than that and the things described in this post they don’t mention or specify the HoF, Champion, Inquisitor and they mostly don’t mention or specify their choices. I feel like it’s been left mostly vague, and as vague as it can be. ymmv in terms of execution, I like it a lot but acknowledge it’s something subjective.
Basically, the DA comics are considered canon as far as they match up with an individual player’s worldstate. In Queen Anora universes, the events unfold similarly yet tweaked a bit in such a way as to allow for Queen Anora. And if “[x] dead char” turns up in a comic, we can safely assume that the events unfold in a similar way sans said character or not at all, fit- and Word of God-source depending. (I personally tend to assume in the dead char scenarios that the events unfolded anyway in a similar manner rather than not at all, despite what DG said that time, as it’s what makes most sense to me in terms of making the parts of the world ‘line up’ in my mind).
Btw, if you’re interested in reading Blue Wraith, I recommend to check out Magekiller, Knight Errant and Deception first if you feel inclined, as there’s an overarching story in this set of comics that’s kind of like one bigger serialized tale that develops throughout.
Hope this ramble helps some and doesn’t make it worse somehow lol :)
[* Alistair’s role in the ‘Inquisition-era’ comics is minor for the record, in case the idea of them being King Alistair-centric would put you off them, they’re not King Alistair-focused at all]

Hold on cuz ur right about those fantasy books. I took a class last semester where I had to read ya novels (it was awful but that’s besides the point) there’s a book called legendborn where the main character is black and the other main character (also her boyfriend) is white. Throughout the entire novel every white person was wildly racist or aggressive towards her because that same white boyfriend has a prophecy about him that states that he’s going to get Arthur’s (King Arthur) abilities and be the one to save everyone. Come the end of the book it turns around that actually the black girl gets the abilities instead and EVERYONE catches a case. They’re denying it, they don’t want her there, she’s not the one who should have powers like 😐 the magical racism really jumped out ((side note the book was fucking awful plus it had a wildly graphic scene of a slave being beaten with a whip))
tbh i would just have to take an F in that class 😭😭😭😭😭😭 its so hard to find ya that doesn't make u wanna die. but magical racism is exactlyyyyyyyyyyyyy it. i remember seeing a post abt how narratives are constructed totally different in iirc japan in comparison to america nd it's been making me think abt how much whiteness has permeated into popular narrative devices. like narrative prophesies have been around since greek tragedies but there's something different abt it now......white stories love to place an emphasis on birth nd being born to high born uber talented parents. and there's always a mention abt rare blonde hair nd shit like that. it's weird! it's giving me manifest destiny mixed with white privilege.....rather than someone being special based of their lived experiences nd motivations u're special just bc u happened to be from a pure blood family or whatever likeeeeeeeeeee hello?

Writing and Rhetoric Course Lesson: Perspective and Tilt in Scott McCloud's Making Comics and Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia
This is a sample PowerPoint with recorded audio of a lesson I have taught in introductory and intermediate writing and rhetoric courses, using Scott McCloud's Making Comics to analyze uses of tilt and perspective in Kohei Horikoshi's manga My Hero Academia. A transcript of the lesson's audio is included below. (Update, October 28, 2021: And here's the lesson plan.)
If you are interested in this topic, I go into more detail in the chapter “Reading Right to Left: Teaching Manga in the Classroom, at Fan Conventions, and Online,” included in the volume Lessons Drawn: Essays on the Pedagogy of Comics and Graphic Novels, edited by David Seelow and published by McFarland Books.
I've really enjoyed getting to take recent popular content that students enjoy, in order to teach about visual rhetoric and its application for understanding how such visual texts influence our thoughts and feelings, especially in advertisements and marketing. Feedback and questions are appreciated in reblogs, on YouTube, or contacting me (email, Twitter).
Hello, I’m Derek McGrath, and today we’re going to talk about looking at tilt and perspective in advertisements and comics.
Why are we looking at this? Many of you are entering this classroom with a lifetime of experience seeing the world around you, and recognizing what someone is trying to communicate to you through images. With so much digital content that you encounter coming in the form of images, it is important to understand how such images influence your thoughts and feelings. Furthermore, as we work to build upon your skills at reading, writing, and persuading people in the English language, we can find common ground for discussion by analyzing images such as these that cross potential language barriers.
Here are three posters from recent movies, and each one gives a pretty immediate example of a different type of visual tilt.
From left to right, we have three types of perspectives that we’ll call “Above It All,” “Eye Level,” and “Worm’s Eye View.” In each case, you need to imagine that you yourself are the person looking at the people shown in these images. On the first image on the left, “Above It All,” you are standing above Mulan as she looks at her reflection. You are above her, you are above this entire scene. In the middle image, you are at eye level with Harley Quinn on the movie poster for Birds of Prey. And on the third image, for Into the Spider Verse, you are below Miles Morales as he falls--you can tell because his feet are larger and closer to your face than his head. You are below Miles--you are like a worm--you are at the worm’s eye view.
In each case, you probably have various emotional reactions from these images and are already coming to conclusions what each image is making you feel, and how your point of view related to those images influences what you think of these people. For example, are you at a higher vantage point where you can judge and analyze Mulan and what she is thinking? Are you at eye level with Harley and can relate to her and maybe understand what she is thinking about or seeing? And are you below Miles and supposed to be in awe of him as he gains his superpowers?
One of the texts I assigned you to read for homework before today’s class was from Scott McCloud’s textbook Making Comics. This is a textbook that teaches you how to make comics, and it’s in the form of a comic book. While this book is about how to make comics, I have assigned excerpts from it because it helps you understand what goes through the thought process of people who work in visual media. The people who made those movie posters work in the visual medium; McCloud is a comics creator who works in the visual medium. And he draws himself inside his own textbook. In the first panel on the left shown here, McCloud is at a slight tilt with a city backdrop of skyscrapers behind him also at a tilt. He has a word balloon where he says the following in relation to that tilt: “It’s the stage where you decide how compositional factors like cropping, balance and tilt affect your readers’ impressions of your world.” In the second and third panels, McCloud gets to what our attention will be for this lesson. In the second panel, we see a tiny version of Scott McCloud looking up at us, where we are towering over him. In the third panel, we see a giant version of Scott McCloud towering over us. In the two panels he says, “And their sense of position within that world.”
Let’s look at three types of perspective that you read for homework that McCloud defines. The first is Worm’s Eye View. In the first panel, McCloud points to an eyeball and holds a photo frame. He is right across from us at eye level. He says, “And there’s no need to keep every panel at eye level.” In the second panel he is looking up at Roman columns towering over him. He gives us the definition of a “worm’s eye view”: “A ‘worm’s eye’ view can give weight and grandeur to objects.” The third panel shows another example, of a giant cyclops towering over two archers. McCloud narrates how the worm’s eye view can also give that weight and grandeur to characters. So, we can take away from McCloud’s explanation that a worm’s eye view is about making what is shown look big and imposing over us.
That takes care of two out of the three perspectives we’ll talk about today. Let’s look at the third perspective: “Above It All.” McCloud is holding that photo frame again, as he now stands on a ladder, trying to be literally above it all to look down on the subject, in this case, a woman in an apartment, with some opened boxes and packed boxes, a rolled up rug, a mattress against the wall, and some cleaning supplies. McCloud says, “Getting above a scene can give readers access to a wealth of info about a setting--and a sense of ‘rising above it all’ emotionally as well.” In other words, being above it all allows you as the reader to maybe get a sense of this setting--this person in this room is either cleaning up or packing to move out or unpacking to move in--while also making you above all of this emotionally as well, where you’re not with this person in their work and are distant from whatever they may be feeling about the work they are doing. It gives you distance from the scene and not as intimate as you could be to how she must feel with the task in front of her.
Your other reading today was from the first chapter of My Hero Academia, the comic by Kohei Horikoshi about superhero high school students. As a reminder, Chapter 1 is available for free at viz.com/shonenjump/chapters/my-hero-academia. You also can get Chapter 1 by signing up for the Viz monthly subscription at that same web site, or you can buy a physical copy of Volume 1 or an ebook of Volume 1. We will be reading later chapters from this comic later in the semester, so it’s important to buy the chapters that are listed in the syllabus.
Let’s review again the three perspectives we just defined, this time with examples you encountered from reading My Hero Academia. Let’s start with a Worm’s Eye View. On the left we have the earlier image of McCloud looking up at the columns and mentioning how they gain weight and grandeur from this low perspective. On the right, we have Izuku seeing his classmates towering over him. His classmates are shadows with eyes and smiles that look toothy, narrow, sinister. By contrast, Izuku is hunched down and sweating. This perspective not only adds grandeur and weight to Izuku’s classmates, it makes them look bigger and more terrifying while Izuku looks weaker and scared. This communicates to us how Izuku, who at this point has no superpowers, is intimidated by his classmates who all have superpowers.
Now let’s look at another perspective, that being Above It All. On the left is the image from McCloud of the woman in her room that she is either cleaning, moving into, or moving out of. We are above her. We don’t get to know what she’s thinking but we see how small she looks compared to the entire room. On the right we see preschooler Izuku trying to protect a bullied classmate--and we see his classmates rushing at him, ready to beat him up. We see how small he looks from this perspective. We see how he is about to get curb-stomped. We are distant from this incoming violence and get to judge the entire scene to see all that is happening and get a sense of the setting and the action taking place, just like how in McCloud’s image we get a sense of the scale of the room and the task in front of that person.
Finally, we have eye level. Now, for this image from My Hero Academia, I cheated a bit. On the right I didn’t use an image from the comic you read; I used an image from the very end of Episode 2 of My Hero Academia, animated by Toho Animation Studios and Studio BONES. This ending image is an adaptation of the end of Chapter 1 of My Hero Academia that you read. At this point we are at eye level with Izuku, as he is down on the asphalt crying because he’s overwhelmed at what the person on the right, All Might, said to him. All Might said he thought Izuku, despite not having a superpower, could be a hero, and that confidence All Might has in him drives Izuku to tears of gratefulness. We are at eye level with these two, and it communicates to us that we can see these two at the same level.
In the image on the left, McCloud is at eye level with us as he explains perspective. McCloud is at eye level with us because he wants us to understand his point--he is trying not to talk down to us or over us. The image on the right may be doing the same: it wants you to see Izuku and All Might as being at the same level of understanding--even though Izuku is now on his knees being overwhelmed by his feelings, so that’s a mixed message we’re getting and that’s probably going to be a contradiction that we’re going to talk about for the next part of class.
And speaking of which, let’s look at what you’re going to do for a group project in class today.
I want us to work together on developing sample introductions for a potential visual analysis essay. What does every visual analysis essay’s introduction need? It should cover the following--not necessarily in this order, but it helps. First, it needs to state its topic. Second, it should hint at what will be the methodology of the paper--in other words, is there any author you’re citing as an example for how you’re interpreting an image or how you are looking at the image? Third, it should have a thesis statement--something that tells the audience “In this paper, I will argue that…” Finally, the introduction should hint at the significance of your paper: what is it about this paper that will make it worth reading beyond the first paragraph?
From this PowerPoint we just looked at, we could fill in those blanks pretty quickly. We started by talking about how movie posters use perspective to advertise some feeling the movie wants you to have. We used Scott McCloud’s book Making Comics for our methodology, to get definitions for the three types of perspective. And then we used Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia as the examples. And we can get a thesis out of those three images of Izuku, too: “Thesis: For most of the first chapter of My Hero Academia, we see Izuku in a lowly position. By the end of the chapter, we are at eye level to see Izuku and All Might across from each other. This communicates how Izuku has risen and is getting closer to the same level as a superhero like All Might.” And why is that thesis statement significant? “By understanding how this fictional story is playing with our emotions, we can see how movie posters and other advertising also uses images that manipulate our emotions to quickly get us invested in a story.”
Now, let’s get to your assignment. I’m going to break up the class into groups. Some of you will look for examples of the worm’s eye view in Chapter 1 of My Hero Academia. Some of you will look for Above It All examples from that chapter. And the rest of you will look for eye level examples in that chapter. As you work together, I want you to write answers to some or all of the questions on the screen. Some questions to consider in the report you will deliver aloud to the class include the following:
What is this perspective accomplishing?
What does the image make you feel?
What details in the image are leading you to have these emotions?
How can you summarize all of your thoughts?
What thesis statement could you develop?
Let’s start with 30 minutes for you to work together to come up with some ideas. If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll speak with your group about any images you’re looking at or any of the questions you’re trying to answer. Okay, 30 minutes start now--good luck!

romance book recs!!
romance is my feel good genre, and it’s also usually somewhat easier to read during stressful times, so here’s a list of some books that are either romance or have a romance element i feel like mentioning.
(EDIT: I STAYED UP TILL 2 AM DOING THIS HELP. this is why some of the comments. don’t make any fucking sense.)
romance books and authors:
CONTEMPORARY:
1. The Bromance bookclub series by Lyssa Kay Adams (A group of men form a bookclub dedicated to romance books in order to understand women, improve their relationships and become better men. It’s funny, cute, and all about dismantling toxic masculinity one romance book at a time)
2. Mariana Zapata books (The queen of slowburn romance. The only book I’ve read by her is ‘Under Locke’, but ‘From Lukov with love’ and ‘Kulti’ have rave reviews. There is so much build up and SO much sexual tension with a great pay off)
3. Milly Johnson books (A uk author whose books are primarily set in the north, these are total feel good books. Not so much graphic and more romantic, but her characters are great and her plot lines really hook you in.)
4. The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren (Super cute, quick enemies-to-lovers story about a bridesmaid who has to go on a honeymoon with the best man when the bride and groom get food poisoning. Obviously this means the holy of holies: fake relationship!)
5. Well met by Jen De Luca (Oh my gosh! Super fun, the characters are just wonderful especially our heroine. A hate-to-love romance set at a renaissance fair! All about overcoming the limits you set on yourself and rethinking your first impressions.)
6. Katherine Center books (My personal favourites are ‘How to walk away’ about a woman who falls for her PT after a near fatal plane crash. And ‘Happiness for beginners’ about a woman taking part in a wilderness trail with her brothers annoying best friend. She writes such great plots and you really feel all the emotions!)
7. Mhairi Mcfarlane books (my personal favourites are ‘Here’s looking at you’ about a woman who comes face to face with her high school bully years later - only he doesn’t recognize her. And he’s not awful? Don’t worry. I know how that synopsis sounds. He’s not excused his actions, but you also understand how he’s grown and changed. It definitely gets you in the feels though. As does ‘You had me at hello’ Which is about a couple from university meeting again years later. God this woman can write angst and yearning!!)
8. A part of me by Anouska Knight (On the same day she and her husband have been accepted into the adoption process, their marriage implodes. This has such a cute romance which follows hate-to friends- to love and it’s v funny)
9. Southern Eclectic series by Molly harper (Just as it sounds. Southern small town romance with a great, quirky cast of characters)
10. Maggie’s man by Lisa Gardner (writing as Alicia Scott) (An escaped convict kidnaps a woman from the courthouse to act as his hostage whilst he tries to prove his innocence. Surprisingly funny and warm. Maggie as a heroine is an absolute joy. They’re sort of chaotic together and it’s a wild ride.)
11. The Mister by E.L James (LISTEN OK - SIT BACK DOWN - It’s not winning awards but it’s actually decent! I was skeptical, but I will admit I was won over. I mean parts are cheesy but it’s so addictive. Basically a rich man falls for his cleaning lady - but it’s also about the yearning. It’s also quite action packed as there’s danger, drama and a chase across europe to get the girl.)
12. RECENT Colleen Hoover (Now, you may enjoy older CH books. Personally I find them very problematic. Now I’ve really enjoyed her recent books though. Especially ‘Without Merit’ and ‘It ends with us’ and ‘Regretting you’. High angst, high drama, dark topics for all of her books. But you can tell she’s matured with her writing. She isn’t for everyone but they’re addictive, fast paced reads.
13. The Austenland duology by Shannon Hale (You might have seen the Austenland movie - The cutest, cheesiest, sweetest, campiest movie ever. Well there’s a book! It’s about women who go on a holiday and live their own Jane Austen story with actors. The first book leans towards Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield park. The second book is more Northanger abbey and Emma.
14. Brigid Kemmerer contemporaries (She is an auto-buy author for me, especially her contemporaries. She writes the best teenage characters, the best teenage boys I’ve ever read about. Her characters are real, she writes about kids trying their best, struggling, and being good, and kind, and the world not being kind to them. Usually the books have a pov from both the female and male love interest. I would rec any of them tbh. ‘Letters to the lost’ comes before it’s companion novel ‘More than we can tell’. I loved ‘Call it what you want’ with has modern Robin Hood elements!!!! seriously she is my favourite YA contemporary author.
15. Sophie Kinsella books (If you haven’t picked up her stand alone novels then what are you doing???? she is the queen!!!! Personal favourites are ‘Can you keep a secret’ and ‘I’ve got your number)
16. A quiet kind of thunder by Sara Barnard (I love her ok. Her books are short and sweet but she packs a punch. TBH these aren’t primarily romance, they’re more just about teenage girls but this one has a good romance element so I’m putting it on here. It’s about Steffi, a selective mute who sometimes communicates with basic sign language who is assigned to look after the new boy at school Rhys, who is deaf.)
17. Meet me at the museum by Anne Youngson (GORGEOUS! moving, tender. A lonely housewifes strikes up a correspondence with a widowed museum curator in Denmark. Oh gosh. I just love this one. It’s about friendship, love, grief, second chances, the choices we make. Seriously love this one and it’s not that long.)
FANTASY:
1. Sorcery of thorns by Margaret Rogerson (Elisabeth has grown up in the great library, protecting grimoires with powers and fearing sorcerers. When a dangerous grimoire is released, she’s forced to team up with an enigmatic sorcerer and his demonic servant in order to save the world.)
2. Sky in the deep duology by Adrienne Young (A viking inspired story about a warrior who is captured by the tribe she is at war with. Such good tension and it’s also got a lot of action. Battle couple romance! Mutual respect! Hate to love!)
3. The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley (I’ve reread this book once but will end up reading it again. It’s a time travel romance about a woman staying in cornwall dealing with the death of her sister who is transported back and forth to the 17th century. It’s a favourite. The romance is wonderful but the stakes are really high too. I also love ‘Belleweather’ by the same author)
4. An ember in the ashes series by Sabaa Tahir (Oh god, the romance. THE ROMANCE! it’s so much. The angst, the pining, the longing. The first book follows Laia, part of a slave class in a roman inspired world. She begins spying in the top military academy and meets Elias, a reluctant soldier. This is a proper fantasy series with only the first three books out, but it’s so great.)
5. Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen (Let me just copy the blurb ok: “Meet Captain James Benjamin Hook, a witty, educated Restoration-era privateer cursed to play villain to a pack of malicious little boys in a pointless war that never ends. But everything changes when Stella Parrish, a forbidden grown woman, dreams her way to the Neverland in defiance of Pan's rules.” I MEAN COME ON. a gorgeous adult fairytale with love and redemption at the center.
6. The Mediator series by Meg Cabot (Obviously Meg Cabot is the most iconic and we stan. But this series is my absolute favourite by her. About Suze Simon, a kickass, no nonsense mediator - Someone who helps ghosts move on to the other side. Sometimes by force. She has to move house and ends up sharing her room with a 100 year old hot ghost named Jesse. The tension. The angst. THE BANTER!!!!)
7. House of Earth and Blood by Sara J Maas (a half fae half mortal girl tries to solve a murder with the help of a fallen angel. It’s a LONG book, but for me personally it flew by. It’s a big new fantasy world but the romance has a great build. Overcoming grief! Being normal together! Being in danger together! THE UST! the characters are so good. I ahven’t been this impressed by a new series for a while)
8. Cursebreakers series by Brigid Kemmerer (yep, she gets another mention. This one is a beauty and the best retelling about a man forced to relive the same season over and over, becoming a literal beat, until a girl from our world can break the curse. The second book, following secondary characters, is my fave so far. But both feature kickass ladies and those small romantic moments BK is so good at)
9. A court of thorns and roses series by Sara J Maas (a fae inspired beauty and the beast retelling. The only time you support a ship switch. Also the secondary ships are getting their own books and oh my god. I’m so excited.)
HISTORICAL/CLASSICS/MILLS AND BOON
1. Jane Austen (The original rom com queen, obviously. Pride and prejudice and Emma are faves. Also I have a major soft spot for the alwayc chaotic and underrated Northanger Abbey)
2. North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell (Actually might be my favourite classic ever. Often described at an industrial p&p. Margaret, from the south, comes face to face with the harsh reality of the world when she moves up north and comes face to face with a brooding millowner. There’s obviously a lot more nuance than that but. THE PINING!!!!!! THE MISCOMMUNICATION! THE DRAMA!)
3. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer (You might have seen the film. Please also read the book. Told entirely in letters. The sharp witted author Juliet Ashton falls in love with Guernsey and it’s characters whilst researching what happened there during the war. Funny, moving and romantic.)
4. The Veronica Speedwell series by Deanna Raybourn (A butterfly hunter foils her own kidnap and is paired together with a reclusive natural historian. They solve mysteries together. They can’t admit they wanna sleep together. The tension.......unbearable. See also the Julia Grey mysteries by the same author)
5. The warrior knight and the widow by Ella Matthews (So last year I discovered Mills and Boon and I have no shame about it whatsoever. This is a medieval beauty and the beast retelling about a woman being escorted to her fathers estate by an enigmatic and scarred knight. She’s hoping to convince her father to let her steward her own lands, and of course trying not to fall for her escort.)
6. The bareknuckle bastards series by Sarah Maclean (A badass, brooding trio of siblings who rule the underbelly of Covent Garden fall for smart, beautiful women. Opposites attract, Good girl/bad boy, strong women, banter. Super fun historical romance)
7. Redeeming the reclusive earl by Virginia Heath (I just read this and it was seriously cute!!!! And book where the hero blushes even once is a good book in my opinion. Basically aspiring antiquarian named Effie barrels into the life of a new earl - who really just wants to be left alone to be grumpy and sad and disfigured. ALONE. But Effie wants to dig on his land. And she won’t take no for an answer. She also talks A LOT.
8. A family for the widowed governess by Ann Lethbridge (Technically this is part of a series but you don’t need to read them in order and this is the best one. A widow who is being blackmailed accepts a governess post. She can’t tell her employer about the blackmail especially when she starts falling for him.)
9. The bedlam stacks by Natasha Pulley (I read watchmaker and didn’t like it but you might like it. This one also FEAUTRES A M/M ROMANCE. I know this list was super straight im sorry. Anyway this is about a botanist falling in love with a priest in the jungle.
10. The wilderness series by Sara Donati (Think outlander without the time travel and also not set in scotland. Basically Last of the Mohicans fanfiction about Hawkeye’s grown up son. An english woman moves to america when her father promises she can be a school teacher there. Little does she know he actually has plans to marry her off. Things get more complicated when she falls for Nathaniel Bonner, a white man raised native american and who’s daughter and extended family is Native American. Like outlander there’s romance, adventure, history. But unlike the outlander books the love interest is a decent guy (i say as if i don’t love the tv show)
STUFF THAT REALLY ISN’T ROMANCE AT ALL. BUT I SHIP A SHIP.
1. The Lacey Flint series by Sharon Bolton (Lacey Flint is a police officer who becomes involved in the hunt to catch a Jack the ripper copycat. There actually is a strong romantic element with the other lead police officer.)
2. The last hours duology by Minette Walters. A novel about the black death and a closed estate lead by a woman who’s trying to protect her people. There’s also a kind of murder mystery. But she also has a close relationship to one of the surfs that I got super invested in.
3. The Strike series by J.k Rowling (I know we don’t stan anymore but. This series about  PI and his assistant slowly growing closer? Becoming best friends and partners? Not acknowledging any feelings for each other?

Hello I’m going to be giving updates about my gigantic 10+ page essay here to motivate myself I guess? Idk this is very much for my own pleasure to document but read these if you’d like!
My essay is for my graphic novels class and I’m writing about American Born Chinese and Fun Home and their exploration of identity and the rejection/acceptance of it. If for some reason any of you want to read it please let me know?? But so I’m reading articles and watching lectures by the authors and I’m starting to develop a pretty solid outline with a lot of content to explore, so I’m sure I’ll hit the page limit! I’m listening to classical music and I’m probably going to make more tea. I think I’m going to be okay as long as I keep going at a consistent and steady pace! Woohoo!

Hello! I have an art question, if you don't mind talking about art stuff! I'm trying to get better at drawing, but having a really hard time with figuring out how to draw people. I feel like I've made progress with things like animals, objects, etc but I just can't get my drawings of people to improve! You draw people (and everything else tbh!!) so beautifully, do you mind if I ask how you learned to draw them? Or if you have any advice? Thank you for posting your art here, you're such a big inspiration and I love seeing your posts when they come across my feed! 💗
I love talking about art stuff!!! ♡ firstly, thank you aww ;×;) !! I'm so flattered, its really so sweet of you to say that!!
(( oh my god once again I've written so much I am so sorry! I put a tldr at the end, I couldn't quite go into much detail about specifics because im not quite sure what specifically you would like to improve, but I did try to cover some bases but please don't be afraid to message me with any more info or questions!!! ))
I'm a bit of the opposite where I can only draw people and struggle making progress with everything else lol, I admire you a little bit!! 🤭
People can be hard to capture, because we naturally (subconsciously?) examine them trying to determine things like emotion and im not quite sure how to put it but... health? For most people, its easy to see if someone is tired or sick at a glance. This comes into play when drawing people because we are wired to immediately analyze everything about them and pick up things that are wrong (think of uncanny valley type stuff!)
I often think about something bob Ross said, I dont have the time to hunt it down but what he said was basically along the lines of; he prefers painting scenery, because when we see a scenic painting its easier to think "this looks like somewhere ive been!" And its more believable. Meanwhile, its hard to capture the exact likeness of someone. If its a little off, we feel it looks "bad". I may have changed or added some points in there, but I think that was the general idea? 🤔 thats not to say scenic paint is easy in any way, its just about how we view it.
My point in this is, the key to drawing people is to create a believable figure. And how to achieve this depends on the style you draw them in ! I can only offer advice for stylized drawings (i struggle to draw hyper realistic people, and I also just don't enjoy it? Lol) but im assuming that since you like my art you're okay with that? ^^
In regards to how I learned to draw, well.. ive been doing it since I can remember ^^; I grew up watching anime which definitely altered my style and interests, and when i was in high-school I transitioned from an "anime adjacent " style, to a generalized "stylized" look, and now I strictly use photo reference which has helped make my style less cartoony but it still shares cartoon elements I feel? For a long time I drew without using references at all which im sure also contributed to how I draw things now. I havent had a chance to take art classes, so I've learned mostly by self study. Practicing drawing from reference, looking up tips and tricks youtube videos, watching other artists work and looking closely at their pieces to try and see how they achieve certain looks. Eventually it all adds up! How i draw people is a reflection of like 20 years of this!!
My biggest regret is not taking art "seriously" and going nearly all of those 20 not properly studying. This is my biggest piece of advice :^( unfortunately, im still learning how to do this myself, I think "studying" is a learned skill and hard to do without instruction. But if you can draw animals and objects I think you probably know a little bit on how to. So then looking a bit deeper into "improving", what about your drawings do you feel are lacking?
Circling back to my earlier paragraphs, how you want to improve depends on what sort of style you are going for and the way you want to portray or capture people. Portraits rely on technical skill i think. I'm not sure i could offer valuable advice here..
Comics, manga, and graphic novels sole intention is to tell a story through drawings. They don't give metaphors (usually!! Sometimes they do but not in the context im trying to explain) and/or tell us how characters are feeling, they show us! This is why the art styles of them often have exaggerated features, and simplified features. The eyes tend to have more detail because we read eyes for emotion, mouths are exaggerated because they are key to reading emotion (most importantly so I think! Watch: 🙂☹ the only difference is the mouth, but we can tell they feel totally different emotions.) Noses in comparison are usually more simplified as they, out of all features of the human face, are the least expressive.
If you want to improve your drawings of people so that they are more expressive and relatable, I would try to analyze how your face changes with emotion and perhaps practice with one of those emotion chart meme templates!
Illustration work is similar, but I feel the face doesn't actually matter as much. If you look at full bodied illustrations of people and zoom in on the face, you'll find that they are sometimes quite simplified! When viewing a full bodied person we generally take in the body's language first. It would take me a long time for me to explain in detail on this post (though I would love to talk about body language in illustration please let me know of you would like me to... also the body language of two figures.. but ill spare you for now ♡) I would recommend gesture drawing and timed studies. I improved drawing so much when I started doing this (I use the site quickposes a lot, set a high timer and draw!!) If drawing the face is hard for you and you can't seem to get anywhere, try focusing on the body for a little bit! Especially how bodies look when bending and twisting.. which might sound random, but I think it helps get a better understanding on how proportions can change with pose.
I wrote so much and I really didn't mean to. Its always hard to answer questions like this without much information like what your goal is and what look you want to achieve. I hope I didnt scare you away with my horrible novel of an answer but if you'd like to give more detail or ask any more questions please I welcome you to!! I love talking about art and I love love love hearing about other peoples art ;^; ♡
Tldr; when trying to improve drawing people it may not be as simple as working on technical skill, its important to keep in mind purpose, emotion, body language, and art style
