"What?"
You took a step back as Hellboy raised his voice. Keeping your eyes low, simply gazing at the floor, as a gentle sigh left Professor Broom.
"My boy..." Broom approached Hellboy, sitting upon the armrest of the couch while leaning upon his cane. "I know you're upset about Agent Clay. It's not an easy job."
Hellboy continued to stare at the multiple screens, of the box TV's which stacked on top of one another.
"But... it's apart of the job. Everyone here knows that."
"Try and tell Manning that." Hellboy's voice had a firm tone. "He's not in charge, yet the asshole walks and talks like he is."
"I know you and Agent Manning don't always see eye to eye-"
"Father, please! The guy talks to me like a piece of shit, and holds me accountable!"
Professor Broom nodded while placing a gentle hand upon Hellboy's shoulder. "I'll speak with Manning. I agree that he has no right in the matter of addressing people the way he does. But please... there's something important I wish to discuss with you."
A heavy sigh left Hellboy, as he silently nodded. Giving the Professor a chance to continue with what he was trying to say before.
"As I was saying... the Osiris Club. They're a British occult society formed in 1866, by the ranking members of the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra." Broom adjusted his semi-circle glasses. Feeling Hellboy's confuse gaze. "Like us, they fight against the forces of darkness. Our organizations have had a long-standing relationship."
"We scratch their backs and they scratch ours?" Hellboy questioned.
Broom gave him a warm smile, "in a manner of speaking... they're old friends of mine, and they need your help with dealing a curtain type of problem."
"Oh yea? What kind of problem?"
"Giants..."
Heathrow. England. 6pm
The cargo plane rumbled and shook as it came to land. Waking up from an uncomfortable sleep, a groan left you as you became aware of the crick in your neck.
"You alright, Kid?"
"Hmm?"
Your eyes fluttered open. The leather of Hellboy's trench coat rubbed against your cheek, as you looked up at him. Cheeks going red, once realizing you were resting upon his shoulder.
"H-How long was I out?"
"Roughly about most of the trip. You snored a little."
"O-Oh... umm, sorry."
"Don't be. I thought it was kinda cute."
A small smile came to Hellboy, as he noticed your cheeks redden even more.
"Good morning guys, this is your pilot speaking. We've landed into Heathrow and luckily it's warm and sunny weather. Please stay seated until the plane has come to a complete stop."
Hellboy undid his belt. standing upon his feet and holding onto the railings above him. "Get ready, Kid. These guys run like clockwork from what I've heard."
You struggled onto your feet. Holding onto his coat for balance, as the plane shook one final time while coming to a complete stop. Causing you to fall into his open arms. You both remained speechless as Hellboy helped you back onto your feet, holding you against him to keep you on balance.
A concierge lead you to the taxi which waited at the bottom of the portable stairs. Holding an umbrella, covering Hellboy from any possible views from passersby.
Sitting in the back of the taxi, feeling Hellboy briefly gazing at you throughout the trip. Biting your lip, you slowly looked at him as his attention snapped away from you. His golden eyes gazing out of the black tinted windows.
"Professor Broom was right." Your voice felt loud in the silence that was held between you for so long. "What happened to Abe and Clay... it wasn't your fault. Without you, nothing would of been achieved."
Hesitating for a moment, softly biting your lip before you continued. "I know you don't like me."
Hellboy's attention suddenly snapped back to you, his features softened as his gentle gaze saddened. Looking at you as though he was hurt by your words.
"It's ok." You assured with a weak smile, "but I'll always be here for you- and not because it's apart of my job." You leaned in a little closer to him, "y'know... you're not as bad as you think you are."
"Kid-"
"We've arrived." The driver announced, interrupting Hellboy.
Black iron gates automatically opened, allowing the iconic English car to pass. You looked out of the window, looking up at the impressive Victorian manner. Reminding you of the old fashioned manner from shows like Downton Abby.
Hellboy saw the small smile forming upon your lips, as the sunlight of dusk reflected from the windows and sparkled in your eyes.
I don't hate you, Y/N... his sadden voice echoed within his head. I just hate the fact of what I am keeps us apart...
Exiting the car, the driver opened your door. Gesturing towards the large double wooden doors.
You couldn't help but gaze at your surroundings, as you and Hellboy followed the butler's lead. The foyer itself was huge and grand, a crystal chandelier hung central to the space. You and Hellboy gathered around the small, circular table underneath the impressive fixture. An elegant rug covered the vintage flooring, while renaissance style paintings lined the wooden panelled walls.
"Your... guests, m'lord." the butler announced as he stopped in front of the flight of stairs before you. Hellboy raised an eyebrow at the man's appounciation, while well dressed gentlemen came down the stairs. Approaching you and Hellboy with warm smiles.
"Hellboy, welcome! I'm Lord Adam Glaren."
A middle aged man stepped a little further in front of the other two. His studious gaze fell on you, as you held your hand out.
"I'm Agent Y/N, sir. You have a beautiful home."
Lord Glaren hesitated before shaking your hand. Your smile slowly fading as you became uncomfortable under his curious stare.
"Welcome my dear, and a pleasure to meet you as well. I thank you for your compliment."
As he let go of your hand, you slowly stepped back to Hellboy's side. Your eyes slowly looking around the foyer. Sensing your sudden unease, Hellboy wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
"May I introduce to you my associates? Dr Edwin Carp and August Swain." Lord Glaren introduced.
Hellboy smiled at Dr Carp, "hi. Have you guys ever been to the Osiris Club in Jersey?"
"No, I do not believe we have." Dr Carp spoke in thought, "say Glaren. Do we have a club in USA?"
"It's like this, but with strippers."
You couldn't help but smile at Hellboy's joke. Watching the Dr's face screw up into an unimpressed expression eased you to relax a little. Clearing his throat as he walked away and adjusting the blazer of his suit.
"Pay him no mind." Mr Swain politely spoke, stepping closer to you and Hellboy. "Your... hand" he pointed to Hellboy's hand of stone, "a fascinating thing. What purpose does it serve?"
"It smashes things good." Hellboy's voice kept it's bold tone.
"We are so very glad you accepted our invitation." Everyone's attention fell onto Lord Glaren again. "The Professor and I go back a long way."
Hellboy silently nodded, as you slowly approached one of the paintings upon the wall.
"The Osiris Club has been long dedicated to preserving the secret history of Great Britain." Lord Glaren explained, as Hellboy's wandering eyes left him and onto you. "It affords us certain insights into... 'certain individuals'-"
"By that, I assume you mean 'individuals' such as Hellboy?" you spoke over your shoulder.
Lord Glaren raised an eyebrow, as his associates nervously chuckled. The Lord noticing Hellboy's small smile, as the demon's gaze never left you.
"We've also given vital counsel to your B.P.R.D on occasion." Mr Swain added.
Your yawn interrupted the gentleman. Hellboy's attention fell back onto Lord Glaren, "perhaps skip onto the important part? My girl is tired, and I doubt you've flew us halfway around the world just so you could give a little history lesson."
Your body stiffened at the new nickname. An uncomfortable chill slowly crawled up your spine, feeling the two mens studious stare upon your back. While Lord Glaren pulled a fake smile.
"Perhaps... we should just show you?" you could hear the Lord's patronising tone.
Lord Glaren walked towards the bookcase in the far side of the foyer, his fingers tilting the spine of a green, leather book. A squeak echoed throughout the space, as a section of the bookcase opened inward. Exposing a small, spiral staircase which was hidden within the wall.
Hellboy approached you, placing a gentle hand upon the small of your back.
"Shall we?"
His voice snapping you out of your daze, and bringing you back into the moment. "Your... girl?" your brain could barely form the whisper.
Your eyes widened a little, as Hellboy's cheeks flushed to a deeper tone of red. Using his hand of stone to scratch the back of his neck.
"Ye..ah" he nervously chuckled. "You're... y'know... and we're..." his body slouched as a heavy sigh escaped him. "F-Forget I said anything... let's... just follow Mr Fancy-Pants..."
You tried to keep a straight face, as you and Hellboy followed the three men down the spiral staircase, and into a basement like space.
"Giants once dominated the British Isles." Mr Swain explained. "Vile, loathsome creatures that would likely eat you, as to look at you."
"They've always been a problem." Dr Carp added, stroking his mustache. "Bodies buried all over England. It's a curious feature of giants, that they occasionally rise from their graves and wreak havoc."
Lord Glaren flashed a smile that made you comfortable, "and when they do... we organize a hunt."
I'm not liking that tone of his... your thoughts wandered.
Coming to the bottom of the stairs, and walking into an archway. Your eyes looked up, placing a hand to your throat as you swallowed your nerves. Framing the high, circular ceiling was a ray of severed heads of giants- multiple ranging in size and colour. Some had broken tusks and horns sticking out from their grotesque faces. Your stomach turned as your eyes continued to scan the area.
"And I thought you had a big head." Nerves taken over your voice, reducing it to a small whisper that Hellboy couldn't hear your joke.
Slowly panning down from the ceiling to the walls, more paintings and photographs came into view.
"We call it, The Wild Hunt." Lord Glaren announced, as Hellboy walked around the room.
"Clearly, you guys are old pro's at this." Hellboy's attention fell onto Lord Glaren, as his associates stood behind him. "Why request my help to kill a giant?"
Hellboy's looked over his shoulder as you bumped into his back, you flashed him a weak smile. Attempting to not raise his suspicions, as Lord Glaren caught his gaze again.
"Three giants, actually."
Hellboy raised an eyebrow at the gentleman's cocky tone.
"One we can handle. Perhaps even two. But three?... now that's a different matter altogether."
"This particular trio is terrorizing the New Forest." Dr Carp explained, his gaze studying you and Hellboy made your spine tingle. "Sucking on the bones of anyone unlucky enough to fall foul of them."
"The marrow, you see." Mr Swain added, "they can't get enough. So if any were to reach a populated centre-"
"It's meal time?"
Mr Swain turned up his nose at the demon.
"This task isn't something to be taken lightly, Hellboy." Lord Glaren's voice held a serious tone. "These are Gigantum Mortis. The most unpleasant and horrid species of the giant-kind. Just ask your father..."
Hellboy followed the direction of Lord Glaren's pointed finger. His eyes widening as his gaze fell onto a black and white photo. Framed in a copper frame, the photo showed a group of men in their twenties. Standing around the severed head of a giant, while they wore armour that looked like something a medieval templar knight would of worn.
"Professor Broom was a guest of The Hunt, when we took a giant down back in '43." Lord Glaren's voice eased his serious edge, but a firm tone could still be heard.
"I always knew Dad aged well..." Hellboy looked at Lord Glaren, "but you guys... picture looks like it was taken yesterday."
"There's a reason for that..." a feminine voice echoed throughout the basement. Everyone's eyes fell onto a beautiful woman, as she emerged from the spiral staircase.
You couldn't help but gaze at her appearance. Silver hair styled in a 1920's updo framed her delicate face. Rabbit fur coat complemented the pearls that hung around her neck, while her pure white eyes gave her native complexion a mystercal glow.
"The phenomenon you so rightly observed was the by-product of a seance." Her voice held an elegance that just captured the attention of anyone whom she spoke to. "The four of us- along with your Professor Broom, were involved in just before the war."
Your eyes widened, "the war? You mean World War II?"
The woman smiled, appeared to be amused by your shocked tone.
"Allow me to introduce our resident seer, Lady Elizabeth Hatton." Lord Glaren introduced.
"The spirit I made contact that night was exceptionally powerful." Lady Elizabeth circled the room, continuing speaking as though she didn't hear Lord Glaren's voice. "It warned us that something was coming... Something that would end all of mankind, as we know it. Therefore we were chosen to seek it out. And destroy it..."
You felt the atmosphere change within the room. Biting your lip as the stare's from the men begun to play on your building anxiety.
"Ever since, we've aged at a snail's pace in order to fulfill that mission." Her eyes wandered over you briefly, "no matter how long it took."
"Okay... and this, ugh thing you're worried about." Hellboy spoke, "did it show up?"
Lady Elizabeth's eyes wandered over the demon, raising her eyebrows as she said with a small smile. "Yes... it did..."
"You and... your girl, must be exhausted from your trip, Agent Hellboy." Lord Glaren butted in, attempting to ease the tension that begun to build. "I have a guest's quarters prepared for you. One bed wouldn't be problem would it?"
You and Hellboy stiffened, as you both awkwardly glanced at each other.
Oh shit...

Courtship Confusion (Nuada x Reader)
Tumblr media
Prince Nuada Silverlance x Reader
TW: gets slightly steamy towards the end but not too explicit
Summary: Prince Nuada has been courting you for the last few months. You unfortunately, don't seem to realize that.
3.6k~ words
I had entirely way too much fun writing this. Please enjoy the emotional constipation and complete obliviousness to come. I promise it pays off in the end.
~~~
In all his long years as a warrior and a prince, Nuada could have never imagined that he’d be feeling this way.
His heart began to pound as you walked by him in the hall, not looking up from the case file you were flicking through. He held his breath until you’d turned a corner out of sight, ignoring the knowing gaze of Nuala beside him.
    He’d charged into battles without a sliver of fear, faced countless foes without even breaking a sweat. So why did the thought of you near him make his knees weak and his stomach churn?
    “(Y/n) is looking rather lovely today, isn’t she brother?” Nuala said as they continued towards their rooms.
    “All humans look the same to me,” Nuada grumbled, despite knowing that his twin would be able to sense the lie. It was rare to see you wear something outside of your usual all black combat wear (this was something he admired about you- like him, you were always prepared to fight and defend if need be). Today, you’d been wearing a long skirt and a nice blouse, a combination that accentuated your curves. As Manning’s assistant, not only were you often out in the field, but you also accompanied him to meetings with government higher-ups. Not that Nuada had tried to find out anything about you or your job after the two of you first met. Why would he, you’re just another human after all.
    Nuala hummed at his response. “Well, it’s good you feel that way then. Yesterday I overheard one of the guards say he was planning on asking her out on a date.”
    Nuada raised an eyebrow. “A guard is going to ask her to… stand on a fruit?”
    His sister tried to hide her amusement. “No, brother. A ‘date’ is when one human asks another human to join them in a fun activity when they wish to begin courting the other.”
    The elf prince stopped. “A guard is going to ask (Y/n) to court him?”
    “It seems like you care for this human after all, brother.” Nuala smirked, sensing the jealousy brewing in him. She’d completely made up that story about the guard, but that was something Nuada didn’t need to know right now.
    Without replying, he turned on his heel and began walking in the direction you’d been headed, leaving his sister to smile in victory.
~~~
    You groaned at your desk, stacks of paperwork surrounding you. The quarterly board meetings always left you with more to do than normal and you were really not looking forward to having to deal with it. You had just pulled the first stack towards you when there came a soft knock at your door.
    “Come in,” you called, expecting Manning to enter with more paperwork. To your great surprise, it was Nuada, the elven prince who’d been in the BPRD’s custody for just over six months. To pay for his crimes against humanity, he’d been sentenced to working with the very organization that had brought about his downfall.
    Even though you’d been an instrumental part of that mission, and had even been injured in the final battle, you’d gone out of your way to be friendly with Nuada when he first arrived. Your parents had died when you were little, and you’d been in and out of the foster care system before Professor Broom had adopted you and raised you alongside Red. You knew firsthand how cruel humans could be, and had sympathized with the prince’s mindset, even if you thought it extreme. You supposed if your race was dying out, you’d be a little pissed at the culprits, too.
    Nuada stood before you, as stoic as ever with his hands clasped behind his back. “I invite you to join me this evening in the training room for a sparring session. It will be a… fun activity.” He said formally.
    An odd choice of wording, but you chalked that up to him just not being quite used to the laidback way humans spoke. You looked around at your desk and the mountains of paperwork on it and back at him. I suppose I do need to work off some steam after dealing with those government high hats all day, you thought to yourself. Besides, it wasn’t often that you found yourself alone with him. You’d developed a bit of a crush on the tall elf in the time you’d spent trying to befriend him, and as much as you tried to tell yourself he’d never be interested in a human, you just couldn’t seem to push the feelings away.
    “I’d love to,” you smiled at him, and the corner of his lips pulled up in return. He bowed to you before making an exit, and that was how you found yourself sweating from exertion just a few hours later.
    The clanging of metal on metal echoed into the hall as you circled each other slowly. Each blow had been matched, parry for parry and lunge for lunge, neither of you managing to get in a hit on the other. You blew away a lock of hair hanging in your eyes, shifting your staff from one hand to the other.
    Nuada’s gold eyes never left your form as he searched for an opening in your stance that would allow him the upperhand, but you were just too quick. Even though he outmatched you in both size and strength, you were quick and agile on your feet, always dodging his attacks at the last second. He knew you were a good fighter after seeing you train before, but experiencing it firsthand was completely different. Your skill was one of the many things he lo- respected, he corrected himself, about you.
    He was brought out of his thoughts when you suddenly lunged at him, taking him by surprise. He fell backwards, losing his footing. You stumbled too, not expecting him to actually have gone down. You couldn’t stop yourself from falling with him, landing squarely on his chest with a thump.
    You groaned, winded from the impact, before stiffening as you realized the position you were in. You quickly scrambled up, heat sarong your cheeks as you blushed furiously. “I’m so sorry,” you rambled. “I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
    Nuada propped himself up on his elbow, turning his head to hide the gold dusting his cheeks. Hopefully if you saw it, you’d think it was just the flush from your training session. He grabbed the hand you offered him, trying to ignore the way it fit perfectly in his significantly larger one.
    “Not to worry, it takes much more than that to wound me.”
    You took a step back once he got to his feet. “I suppose this means I win, hm?” You couldn’t keep the smug smile off your face.
    The prince huffed, picking his weapon off the ground where it had fallen. “You’re not bad… for a human.”
    You rolled your eyes, knowing that it was as much of an admission as you were going to get. The two of you began to walk to the exit after gathering your belongings. “We should do this again sometime. It  was fun.”
    Nuada seemed to perk up at that, a small smile on his face. You blinked in surprise. It was the first time you’d ever seen him smile. You were even more surprised when he grabbed your hand, placing a delicate kiss on the back of it. “It would be my pleasure,” he said, bidding you goodnight and walking off to his room.
    You began to make your way to your room as well, lost in thought at the elf’s bold action. Surely that was just his royal upbringing shining through, he was only being polite. You attempted to quell your beating heart, but nothing could stop your mind from wandering to what it would feel like to have Nuada’s lips on yours instead of the back of your hand.
    Meanwhile, said prince was already busy planning your next “date.”
~~~
    You were having one of those days.
    Manning had dropped all the work that he didn’t want to do on your shoulders, as usual. The new recruits had been especially tiresome working with today, and eventually you’d given up trying to teach them anything new, just making them run laps around the track until their training time with you was up. And to top it all off, one of the guards had whistled after you when you’d walked by him, landing you a scolding in Manning’s office about “not breaking any more noses” because “the BPRD is low on guards right now” or something like that.
All in all, it had been a shit day, and you wanted nothing more than to take a long bath and not come out of your room for the rest of the evening.
You reached your door in a tired daze, not even realizing something had been sitting in front of it until you’d almost kicked it over. It was a bottle of wine with a silky red ribbon tied around it in a bow, beside it a box of fancy chocolates. The note attached simply said, A queen deserves to be pampered.
You examined the items in your hands with skepticism. Who could have left them for you? Manning would never leave such a gift, he barely noticed all the extra work you did for him. You briefly thought of your adopted brother, but dismissed it as quickly as it came. With such a romantic note, it couldn’t be from Red. Long white hair and golden eyes entered your mind, but you dismissed that even faster than you had Red. There was no denying the romantic tones to the gift, and there was no way that Nuada felt that way for you. He probably barely even considered the two of you friends.
It had to have been that guard, you thought with a scowl. Even after you punched him in the face, he just couldn’t take a hint, could he? You frowned deeply, carrying the wine and chocolate into your room and closing the door with a bang. You’d dispose of them in the morning, you didn’t want some creep’s attempt at wooing you.
Nuada watched from around the corner, frowning at your less-than-pleased reaction to his gifts. Had you not liked them? He thought that all human women liked sweets, but judging by your disgusted reaction, you obviously didn’t. He straightened up and continued down the hall, pace faltering slightly when he passed by your door.
He meant what he’d written in that note, and he longed to be able to provide you comfort after a long day. Resolve settled his stomach as he forced himself on his way. He hadn’t earned that privilege, not yet at least. It was obvious to him now, he needed to get you a much better courting present. One that would completely sweep you off your feet, and ensure that you would not hesitate to say yes when he asked you to be his mate.
~~~
    You’d been seeing a lot more of a certain elf prince recently, not that you were complaining.
    He always seemed to be in the library whenever you were in there. Often, you would bond over books, swapping recommendations and opinions on mutual reads. One time, you had even sat next to each other on the couch, with him reading an excerpt of his favorite childhood book of legends to you in his native tongue. You’d sat back and relaxed, letting the sound of his soothing baritone wash over you. Even if you couldn’t understand what he was saying, it was a calm moment in your hectic workday that you treasured.
    You’d also taken to sparring together every other evening. Right now, your tally was even. You’d beat him, he’d beat you the next time, and so on. It was becoming a fun little game between the two of you, and slowly you began to see Nuada’s true personality shine through his cold and off-putting exterior.
    Of course, these interactions only fueled the huge crush you had on the prince. Maybe you were even falling in love with him, you mused one night after one of your training sessions. It would be just your luck, to fall in love with someone who would never love you back. Even though Nuada was friendly to you, he did little to hide his taste for the others around you. Whenever a man drew near, he sneered at them until they walked quickly away. It was a reminder to you that he could never see you as anything more than a greedy, dirty human. But still, after another impromptu meeting with him in the library, you told yourself it was okay to pretend.
    You’d also been receiving more gifts from the guard- little crystals, fancy pens for your desk, a scarf in your favorite color, each with a sweet note attached. These gleam, but not as much as you. For all the thoughts and ideas that come from your beautiful mind. And the most daring of all, Would you wear this, and only this, for me? You kept them all in a box as evidence so you could convince Manning that he was harassing you. Most disturbing were the sketches of you, done in amazing detail. They were drawn with such obvious care you sometimes doubted that it was actually the guard that drew them, but then reminded yourself that there was no one else it possibly could be. And yet, you couldn’t bring yourself to throw them away.
~~~
    Nuada paced his room, hands behind his back and brow scrunched deep in thought. His courtship with you was going very well. The two of you had grown much closer over the last few months, and it was time to finally ask you to be his mate.
    He looked over to his small bedside table where the courting gift he had made for you rested. It had taken him countless hours to create, and he could only hope that it would be good enough for you.
    His sister entered quietly, and he growled at the intrusion. “I’m busy, sister. Go pester that overgrown fish you seem to like so much.”
    Nuala tsked teasingly. “I expect you to not be so callous with my future sister-in-law, brother. Even if she is ‘just a human.’”
    “(Y/n) isn’t just a human, at least not anymore. She is kind, and caring, and a skilled warrior, and-”
    Nuada cut himself off at the sight of his sister’s triumphant grin. “Love has changed you, brother. It pleases me greatly to see you so happy.”
    The sincerity of her words stopped him from feeling too annoyed at her intrusion. “I am going to ask her to be my mate,” he confessed. He looked at her imploringly, gold eyes filled with rare vulnerability. “Do you think she will say yes?”
    “I have no doubt, brother.”
~~~
    You’d had enough.
    The trinkets had been one thing, the sketches another, but this time he had gone too far. The guard had the nerve to break into your locked office and leave a note demanding you to meet him. ‘Let us make our love official. Meet me on the roof tonight at 8 pm.’
    Your stomach curdled at the delusional note. How could that guard possibly think you loved him? You were deeply in love with Nua-
    You stopped yourself from completing the thought, instead focusing on your anger. Oh, you would meet him, alright. You would meet him and put an end to the foolish obsession he had with you.
    You waited impatiently for the evening to come, delighting in all the ways you were going to give the guard a piece of your mind. If he thought a broken nose was bad, just wait till he saw what was coming.
    You stormed up the stairs to the roof, kicking open the door with a bang only to stop at the sight before you.
    Lights were strung up criss-crossed over a comfy blanket with a picnic basket sitting beside it. Soft music played from who-knows-where, and rose petals were scattered all around.
    “Thank you for not keeping me waiting, my love. I have been so anxious for this night to come.”
    You blink in shock as Nuada steps out from the shadows. His white hair is tied back, and he is clad in regal-looking robes even fancier than the ones you’re used to seeing him in. He walks swiftly towards you, taking both your hands in his and gazing earnestly down at you.
    “Wh-where is the guard?” You manage to stutter out, struggling to understand just exactly what is going on. You must be completely losing your mind, because you could’ve sworn Nuada has just called you “my love.”
    Confusion crosses his features before his eyes narrow in recognition and anger. “Has one been bothering you? I’d hoped our courtship would make it obvious enough that you were unavailable.”
    Now you were certain that you were hearing things. There was no way Nuada had just said the words “our” and “courtship” together.
    Nuada moved closer to you until your chests are touching. He seemed to tower over you as he raised a hand to cradle your cheek. “You are so beautiful,” he breathed, and before you could comprehend what he’s doing, his lips melded with your own. You couldn’t move as he groaned against you, his tongue coming to trace your bottom lip.
He pulled away suddenly, seeming to try and gather his composure. “I promised myself I wouldn’t get too carried away before giving you this.” He reached into a pocket of his robe and pulled out an intricate ring, gold wires wrapped elegantly around a large glittering diamond.
“This was my mother’s,” he explained, sliding it on the ring finger of your left hand. You remained still, quite sure that you’d died somehow and had gone to heaven. He got down on one knee, looking up at you with complete reverence. “(Y/n) (L/n), will you do me the infinite honor of being my mate?”
You choked at the word “mate,” finally shaking yourself out of your daze. You took a step back, pulling your hand away from his. “This is cruel, even for you Nuada.” You said coldly. “I don’t know who told you friends are supposed to play pranks on each other, but this isn’t how you do it.”
He had the decency to look distraught, at least. “Prank? This is no prank.” You scoffed, already moving towards the door back inside. You knew you’d done a poor job of hiding your feelings for him, but he didn’t need to mock you for them in such a way. You’re a human, and he hates humans. He could’ve just told you that instead of going through all this trouble to embarrass you.
“Wait, please!” The despair in his voice made you pause, but you still didn’t turn around to face him. You didn’t want him to see the tears that were beginning to fall.
“I assure you, I would never jest about something so serious. It is tradition for courtship to end with the presentation of a token of love and the question to become mates!”
You whirled around, anger being replaced with confusion. “What courtship? We haven’t been dating!”
Nuada looked crestfallen, an expression you never thought you’d see on him. “But my gifts, our dates? Did you not consider them part of our courtship?”
You shook your head in confusion. “I don’t understand, Nuada. You never asked me out on a date.” Your eyes widened in realization. “Wait, it’s you that’s been leaving me all those things outside my door?”
    He nodded, getting slowly to his feet. “Yes, and our dates were in the library and the training room. I thought all they needed to be were fun activities, but I see now that I was mistaken.”
    He looked absolutely devastated, and your heart clenched at the sight. You never could have believed that he would return your feelings, and here you were learning that he thought you two were engaged in a months long courtship!
    You walked back up to him and reached up to make him meet your gaze. “For the record, I would love to be courted by you,” you said softly, tucking back a wayward piece of hair that had fallen. Your fingertips brushed the point of his ear and he shivered. “I love you, Nuada. I have for a very long time.”
    No words were spoken as your lips met again, this time allowing yourself to truly get lost in the other. You opened your mouth eagerly when Nuada’s tongue swiped at your bottom lip, and you couldn’t help the moan that escaped you when he immediately dove in. You ended up pressed against the stairwell door, your legs wrapped around his waist so that you could feel every inch of his hard length against you.
    You broke apart for air, both of you panting with swollen lips. Nuada groaned deeply when you teasingly rolled your hips against his, fingers clutching your thighs so hard you wouldn’t be surprised if they left a bruise.
    “Do not tempt me so,” he growled, voice low in your ear. “It is obvious to me that I have not courted you properly, and for that I must make amends before I can make you my mate.”
    “Then let the courtship begin,” you said, giving him a wicked smile before pulling him back down into another searing kiss.

hello! If possible, I would like to request head-canons of prince Nuada with a heavily traumatized autistic reader?
specifically an autistic reader that suffered severe emotional abuse and instability as a kid? (Am I projecting the entirety of my life into a single request…maybe)
no pressure if it’s not for you! I just rlly like your writing!
thank you! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Thank you for requesting! I'm sorry it took me so long to write this- I wanted to make sure that I'd done a lot of research so I could accurately portray everything you were asking for. Anyways, here are your headcannons!
---
~ Nuada doesn't even try to hide his distaste for humans, even after the BPRD rehabilitates him and Nuala after his battle with the Hellboy. If anything, his inability to leave the compound without supervision, his forced participation during missions, and his twin sister's increasing closeness with a certain anthropomorphic fish-man only fuel the flames of his hatred even more.
~ Everywhere he goes, people scatter before him. They are afraid of him- afraid of his wrath- and Nuada likes it that way. But there is one human in the BPRD that doesn't run from him or flinch away from his presence.
~ You.
~ He watches you from afar, trying to figure out what makes you so different from the rest of your peers that can't stand to be around him. As the BPRD's librarian, you aren't built especially strong or have much field training. When you talk, it's softly and usually with your eyes on the ground. And yet, whenever he enters the library, you remain calmly behind your desk when all others would have left.
~ Your interactions start simply with him asking for specific books or an item to examine from the archives, which you always help him find with the same demure air that you do anyone else. But slowly, the two of you begin to talk about your favorite books, history, philosophy- and Nuada starts to find that you're almost always on his mind.
~ One day, he goes to the library to find it empty. You aren't at your desk or in the stacks, and Nuada doesn't have time to register the fact that he's disappointed you aren't there when a slight noise catches his attention.
~ His keen warrior ears lead him to a small secluded corner of the library. He finds you tucked behind a cart of books, knees drawn to your chest and rocking slightly. You raise your head to look at him, and he's filled with anger at the sight of your tear-stained face.
~ "My lady, what has upset you so much?" He murmurs softly, slowly falling to his knees so that he can move closer to you. You sniffle. "Manning came by earlier. He was angry I hadn't finished cataloguing the newest influx of items. I tried to explain that I have no help, but he wouldn't listen!" You're unable to finish, burying your head in your knees once more while Nuada struggles to reign in his temper.
~ He's seen the way Manning can be when he's angry. It's no wonder the man upset you- you, who flinches at loud noises, who prefers the company of books more than other people.
~ Nuada remains sitting with you, even after you finish speaking. He tells you stories softly, stories from his childhood, myths and legends of his people. When you finally seem to calm, you shuffle close to him and place your head on his shoulder. He tenses for just a moment before relaxing and continuing his story, lulling you into a light sleep.
~ For now, he will let you rest. He makes a silent promise to you in that moment, that he will always protect you from all that could cause you harm. That you are the only human in the BPRD worth anything.
~ Soon he will realize the true extent of his feelings for you, and he will confess them between the tall stacks of books that you feel so safe in.
~ But first, he has a little meeting with Manning to schedule.
