Nuada was a disciplined elf. He spent hours pouring over books and stone tablets in his lord father's great library. When he was not reading, he was sparring.
The crown prince was a warrior without peer, so the singers said. Even when he was but an elfling, it was said no match could be found for Nuada's gift with spears and swords. His father, the high king of all elves, considered him to be the greatest warrior of their people. And the most accomplished. The prince was not just gifted with the blade and well-read; he was also skilled in craftmanship and music and even dancing. It was a strange thing indeed, to see such a brutal warrior glide across a hall like a feather on the wind.
Handsome and charming and dangerous in equal measure, the prince never wanted for company. Nuada was always surrounded by beautiful maidens, all of them vying for his attention. He was unwed, you see, and was expected to take a wife. That was one of his duties: to marry a maiden of the highest birth and produce an heir. The prince understood this. He was more than willing to pledge himself to marriage, but he just needed time to find a bride worthy of him. Until then, he decided, he would find other means to satisfy his needs, for he was a warrior, and as disciplined as he was, he had a warrior's many appetites.
Of course, it must be said that the prince would never sate his hunger by taking another elf to bed. Oh no. Nuada abhorred the very notion of sullying one of his own people that way, no matter how lowborn the elf in question may be. He turned his eyes to the servants instead. They were all mortal hostages taken by his lord father after a great and terrible war. King Balor tolerated them as well as he could manage, and turned a blind eye to how they were treated, provided certain decencies were observed. Those decencies were simple enough: No torture. No working servants to death. No forced couplings. Alas, these edicts had many and more cracks to find if one knew how to find them.
And Nuada found one precisely to his liking.
"Why are you whimpering, little mortal? He grunted. "I thought a good little whore like you wanted nothing less than being bedded by the crown prince Bethmoora."
Whore. That was the choice word he called her, among other things. And yes, y/n did desire the crown prince ever since the moment she first saw him. Her dreams had been haunted by sweet and tender visions of him wooing her before bedding her. She thought that should her dream ever become reality, he would be as generous and courteous and gentle with her as he was with the ladies of his father's court. Such blissful ignorance only lasted until he caught her looking one night while serving his dinner. The prince only waited till his guests took their leave of him before asking her to sink to her knees. He had caressed her cheek, almost in affection, and insisted she open her mouth for him. Not knowing what was expected of her, y/n obeyed. So much had changed since then.
She jolted when he slapped her thigh. His hand was large and had been roughened by centuries of fighting and wielding weapons. It left a mark all of its own. He slapped her thigh again and dug his nails into her flesh. Y/n licked her lips. The prince was expecting an answer.
"I whimper out of pleasure, your highness," she replied as fast as she could, hoping it would please him. She may have felt some pleasure; it was true, but it was so little. The prince would slake his lust upon her body and chase his release, and show little care for her own. As soon as he was satisfied, Nuada would order her to dress and leave.
"You are not lying to me, yes? You do know what happens when people lie to me, yes?"
"I know, your highness. I am not lying, your highness."
Nuada grunted and grabbed her hips, muttering indencies in her ear the entire time. His hands left bruises wherever they touched. Sometime he held her so hard her body would be sore for several days after. Then there were the things he called her, not caring about how they might make her feel. Y/n would not have minded any of it had he shown any interest in her during the act. Or showed concern for her after it.
"Such a good little whore," he said, picking up his tortuous pace and thrusting even harder, filling her as deeply as he could. His nails dug into delicate skin, leaving bruises in their wake. "But you must be fucking silent. I like you that way. Is that understood?"
"Yes, your highness." Y/n lowered her arms and rested her head against the pillows. That allowed the prince to find another angle. He rammed her and found a new place that made her moan long and deep.
"I said be silent!" He barked at her and soon lost himself in her flesh. Nuada moaned and grew drunk on the sound of his thighs slapping against hers. He chose well, he thought. Y/n was meek and discrete and obedient, a maiden who had not known the touch of men until him. She was so soft, her skin warm, and her cunt plush and sinful whenever it fluttered and tightened around his cock. Then there was that sweet little mouth of hers. Nuada enjoyed seeing it swollen and glistening with the remnants of his spend.
The bed creaked softly. Y/n bit her lip and buried her face in the pillows. A heady mixture of pleasure and pain overwhelmed her even as fresh tears coursed down her cheeks. They had sprung from the knowledge that she was a mere plaything to the prince, someone he could use and throw aside once someone worthy of him was in the offing. And there would be someone worthy. Nuada would take an elf-maid hailing from only the highest of births for a wife. She, on the other hand, was a mere mortal, the only child of a petty king who dared to march against King Balor.
"If only your pathetic father could see you now," Nuada grunts and stops just long enough to reach over to gather her wrists. One hand tightens over them, keeping them behind her back. The other curled around her hair. He tugged hard whenever he sheathed himself in her. "A slut servicing her master."
Her father had been allowed to live on the condition that she be sent to court as a hostage. He had no say in where she was placed or whom she had to serve. He was not allowed to know, either. Perhaps this was a mercy.
The air grew thick and heated. The room felt uncommonly warm. Y/n's neck ached from Nuada tugging her hair. Her entire body trembled with each violent thrust. Tiny beads of sweat formed over her skin. Her breath had reduced to shallow gasps and pants. A sweet tension gathered in her core. She was close. So close. But the question remained: will the prince let her have her pleasure just this once?
That was not to be. Nuada felt the coiling in his belly. He was on the precipice of his release, and he had no intention of spilling his seed in y/n's slick heat. As glorious as that would be, he did not wish to risk planting a halfling bastard in y/n's belly. The elves were the children of the earth. The golden blood of the true ancients and the elder gods flowed strong in their veins, and Nauda would never dream of mingling his blood with that of a lesser creature. He drew back and got out of bed, pulling y/n with him as he did. She knew what was to happen next and did well to hide the sadness welling within her.
"Open," he commanded, after she settled on her knees.
Y/n obeyed, letting her mouth go slack while he sank his length all the way in. She kept still while he set the pace, her breath filled with the clean scent of him. His cock was warm and heavy on her tongue. Y/n tightened her lips just enough, just as he taught her the first night. He moaned. She opened her eyes. His head was thrown back, and his mouth was slightly parted. Nuada moved, fucking her mouth and grunting whenever that sinful tongue of hers glided along his member. He sighed wistfully, grabbed at her hair, and went faster and deeper, delighting in the little gagging sounds she made. All y/n could do was keep her hands on her thighs and let Nuada enjoy himself. She was not allowed to touch him during the act or speak to him unless spoken to. He delighted in that too, for he believed that was where mortals like her belonged. Silent and by the feet of their betters.
A few more moments were all it took. "Fuck," Nuada muttered while his cock throbbed and twitched and a warm torrent of his spend spilled onto y/n's tongue. He pressed himself hard against her lips while still riding the high of his orgasm, groaning one last time before finally pulling his cock out of her mouth. The prince ran a thumb over the servant girl's lips, pleased to find them glistening and swollen as always.
"Swallow," he commanded, and brushed a thumb over her tears. He brought it to his mouth, as if to savor the taste. "Swallow my spend like the good whore that you are."
Y/n obeyed, trying not wrinkle her face when the salty essence of him washed down her throat. She knew Nuada would not let her leave until she had swallowed every last drop. Nuada grunted in approval when she opened her mouth and he found it empty. He lifted y/n to her feet and kissed her hard on the lips, his fingers digging into her skin. When he pulled away his eyes glinted in savage triumph.
"Get dressed, and then get out," he said without even looking at her. "I have had my fill of you this night."
Y/n gathered her clothes. Her fingers trembled, as if they had all turned to thumbs. She fumbled with the lacing on her dress, the ties of her neat little apron. She glanced at him. Many a turn of the moon had come and gone since their first coupling, and the prince could not bring himself to even pretend to show her a shred of kindness and respect. Y/n sniffled and looked away.
Nuada made a sound of disgust. "Spare me the sad little doe eyes. I will not fall for it. Now get out and get one of the others to draw me a bath."
Y/n slipped into her shoes and fled into the cold and empty darkness, finding it a welcome relief to the prince's company.

look at me, going back to my roots and writing about elves. that used to be the bread and butter of this blog, haha.
i started this ages ago (and by ages, i mean like 2022) so it's nice to finally have it finished and ready to share with the world. hope you guys enjoy!
the fire and the forest (prince nuada x gender neutral!reader, hellboy)
Tumblr media
The weight of the books in your arms tugs at your shoulders; you’ll have one hell of an ache to deal with once you drop them off. You catch a few sympathetic glances from agents as you pass them in the hall, and though it’s a struggle not to roll your eyes, you swallow back your annoyance and return their stares with a sunny smile.
Cowards, you think uncharitably. How many of them had balked at the job you now found yourself saddled with? It would amuse you if it didn’t annoy you so much, how a gaggle of trained agents had foisted off the position of Nuada’s handler for so long that the task had eventually fallen to you.
You’d been terrified at first - you were a researcher, not a field agent, and the prickly elf Prince wasn’t exactly a fan of humans. The idea of one assigned to be his glorified babysitter was sure to rub him the wrong way and you’d seen enough footage of his fight with Red to know how easily he could skewer you with that spear of his.
But while he certainly hadn’t seemed fond of you at first - had glared daggers at you until you left him in peace, in fact - he had eventually grown… tolerant of your presence. You had a feeling his sister was to thank for that; Nuala had a way of soothing her brother’s more murderous tendencies, and you knew it was a mixture of her diplomacy and Abe’s reassurances that had allowed the twins to be accepted into the BPRD after Nuada’s rampage instead of exiled, or worse.
They were an asset to the team regardless of the circumstances under which they’d joined, and though Nuada was still regarded with distrust among some of the bureau, Hellboy had accepted him as one of their own, and where Hellboy led, others followed. Eventually.
“Kid does as he’s asked,” he’d told you, a smirk curling his lips. “He just does it angry. I can work with angry.”
In truth, you couldn’t blame the surly Prince for his rage. You understood all too well the devastation humans had wrought on his home and the earth as a whole, and could only imagine how it must feel to hide yourself away from the world.
That was why you’d joined the bureau, for the chance to learn as much as you could about the supernatural, not only to protect yourself and others from sinister forces but to better understand the benevolent creatures that existed on the fringes of your world.
Not that you could call Nuada benevolent. Passionate, perhaps? Intense?
Complicated. Yes, complicated worked nicely.
Not so complicated that he couldn’t be swayed with gifts, you hoped, readjusting the pile of books in your arms. It had taken months to pick through and assess the various tomes and trinkets kept in Nuada’s subterranean lair, and though much of the objects in his possession had been declared… well, shady as fuck, the books at least had been deemed safe.
They looked fascinating, the spines embossed in silvery font in a language you couldn’t read. According to Abe, most were concerned with the history of the elves, their deeds, their language and legacy. You hadn’t felt brave enough to ask Nuada about them, but Nuala had been kind enough to answer any questions you had.
“He will be pleased to have these returned,” she’d told you, just before you’d begun your trek toward Nuada’s chambers. “And pleased that the gesture has come from you,” she’d added with a beatific smile, leaving you feeling more than a little exposed as you’d walked away.
Arriving at Nuada’s door, you fumble with the heavy tomes until they’re nestled against your chest, freeing a hand to knock.
“Enter.” Nuada’s voice is gruff, a touch annoyed, and not entirely welcoming.
Business as usual, you think with a wry grin, before twisting the handle and pushing open the door.
It’s strange, really, how Nuada’s chambers have always appeared so much more welcoming than their host. You’re certain Nuala is to be thanked for that, and for the various small touches that give the space a hint of life - the books and trinkets that line the bookshelves, the chair pushed near the fireplace, the leather bound tome perched on the bed.
You try to imagine Nuada tucked away near the fire, lost in a book, the anger and resentment eased from his shoulders when no one is watching.
The image disperses in a thrust of the prince’s spear through the air, the blade coming to a stop a few scant inches from your nose. You swallow, hands tightening around the books in your arms, and take a hasty step back from its master.
“Have you come to gawk?” Nuada’s shrewd, amber eyes trace the angles of your face, his chest heaving gently beneath the force of his exertions. You try not to notice the breadth of his shoulders and the muscles packed onto his wiry frame, a feat made nearly impossible with his torso bared to your gaze.
You jerk your eyes away from his chest, stumbling around your words. “Your books - I thought - uh, we thought you might like them back.” Your chin jerks clumsily to the heavy tomes cradled in your arms, wary of the spear still aimed in your direction.
Nuada’s fierce golden eyes flick to the silver-flecked spines, recognition - and maybe even relief - blooming in their depths. “I suppose I should be grateful they were not destroyed,” he mutters, anger sharpening the line of his shoulders.
You shift awkwardly, useless platitudes lingering on your tongue. Nuada wouldn’t appreciate any of them, you knew, and so you sink your teeth into your inner cheek and say nothing at all.
Nuada scoffs at your silence and gestures impatiently to the bed, seeming to take pity on you. “Leave them there.”
“Right,” you murmur, carefully laying the books out along the foot of the bed. Nuada resumes his spear work behind you, his bare feet moving noiselessly across the ground and his sharp gaze focused on an enemy you cannot see.
You’re drawn into stillness at the sight of him, watching the flex and bunch of his shoulders as he moves, the fan of his silver hair and the clench of his abdominals after each powerful thrust of his spear. It’s of little wonder why the Bureau had been so eager to recruit the Prince rather than sentence him to death for his crimes. He made for a powerful ally, unwilling though he may be, his strength rivaling Red’s and his cunning a formidable weapon in their arsenal.
You flinch as the head of the Prince’s spear whistles past your ear, jerking you abruptly from your - rather frank, you’re now realizing with a guilty flush - perusal of the pale elf’s body. Your eyes follow the length of the shaft held aloft over your shoulder until you’re caught in Nuada’s gaze - fierce, narrowed, but not angry.
“The others hide,” he murmurs, stalking closer. Your breath catches in your throat, and he hears it, eyes jerking to your lips, where they linger. “Their fear, their contempt, their distrust.” His scent fills your nose - ash and dark forests and sweat. You can feel your pulse quickening at the base of your throat. The head of his spear lowers to the floor, crowding you against his chest. You can hear his breaths, labored by exertion, and your own breath rushes to meet his. “But not you. You return, day after day. You look. You linger.” His fingers tighten around the shaft of his spear, golden eyes sharp. Dark. “Why?”
Because no one else would, you almost say, because it’s the truth - or at least it had been, back when the higher ups had first graciously volunteered you for the job. You could have foisted it off to someone else if you’d really wanted to, could have refused to have anything to do with the prickly Prince like so many other agents had done before you, and yet you hadn’t.
Why?
You swallow roughly, lifting your chin to hold Nuada’s gaze with your own, and tell him the truth. “Because I want to.”
The clang of the spearhead rattling against the ground should make you flinch, and yet you’re too busy gasping against the heat of Nuada’s mouth, your shoulders hitting the wall with a muted thud as he pushes you against it. The pain barely registers, your mind awash with the sensation of the Prince’s lips moving roughly against yours and the flex of his powerful shoulders beneath your hands as you hold onto him for dear life.
A strangled cry slips from your lips when he hoists you into his arms, your legs grasping for his hips as he plunders your mouth. There’s no softness to it, no mercy, just a fierce hunger that threatens to engulf you, overwhelm you. Your shaking fingers delve into his pale hair, silver strands slipping against your skin like silk, and your mouth falls open on a muffled keen as his tongue pushes through the seam of your lips to tangle with your own.
You can feel him between your legs, hard, straining, hot enough to burn. You wait for the fear to set in, the unease, the surety that you’re making a terrible mistake, courting anything but distance with a force like Nuada, and yet all you feel as the elven Prince drags you to bed is a desperation that burns through you like wildfire, hunger that gnaws at your belly like a living thing, and something sharper, something you can taste in the back of your throat and in the slick recesses of Nuada’s mouth, feverish and fierce against your own.
Need.

Whoa you like Nuada too? I can’t pass this up! Can you please write Nuada with a reader who is cheerful individual? I like grumpy x sunshine ships 😆 I feel he wouldn’t know how to go about it and more confused when he falls for reader (Gender neutral pls)
Tumblr media
Of course I like Nuada anon! How could I not?! I’d be ashamed of myself if I didn’t.🦦 also this is long as shit. I got carried away…no I won’t apologise.
Nuada first heard of you whilst being held captive at the BRPD through Nuala, whom had met you earlier that day through your mutual love of literature. And according to his sister you were a bright, bubbly, happy and warm individual who made her feel welcomed and included the moment she came to the Bureau; even going so far as to gift her with a poetry book with a cerulean blue cover.
It was actually a personal possession of yours but due to never haven gotten to read it, you had decided that it would serve Nuala far better than it ever did you. Nuala naturally refused to accept it but, you were persistent that she’d have it as you would rather have it be well loved and read than sitting on a cold, lonely shelf collecting dust.
‘They’re such a delight to talk to brother.’ Nuala began, clutching the poetry book with the cerulean cover close to her chest as though it were a priceless treasure, which to her it very much was.
‘They’re human dear sister, this persona they’ve put on is probably a trick, an illusions of sorts to lure you into a false sense of security.’ Nuada warns, not as trusting towards humanity as Nuala was. Giving? Warm? Welcoming? These were traits that the elven prince would’ve never associated with humans. Ever. It just sounded too far fetched to think that such a kindhearted and selfless person could ever have existed. Nuada only knew humanity for their glutinous greed, so such simple acts of kindness as gifting someone a poetry book, would do very little to change his perspective on the entirety of mankind.
Nuala frowns. ‘You haven’t even met them and yet you refuse to give them a fair chance. I understand your grievances towards humans but all I ask of you, dear brother, is that you learn to trust one, even if that one happens to be y/n.’ Nuala pleaded with Nuada, holding out on a spark of hope that with your influence, Nuada’s heart will no longer be veiled in shadows. Nuala truly believed that if anyone could come close to doing just that, it would be you, she just knew it.
Nuada merely scoffs at the notion his sister has in you being the one to unveil his heart of the pain and suffering. While he may have once bended to his twins every plea, this was one he could not find himself willingly doing so and the look upon Nuala’s face told him that she was very much made aware of that fact and wordlessly left.
Nuada wouldn’t get to experience you in your entirety until the BRPD decided that Nuada was trusted to head out on missions as your partner, they too also had some inclination that your bright and sweet persona would not only run off on Nuada but also soften his resolve against all of humanity; an request that would take a lot out of you.
‘You must be Prince Nuada. It’s nice to finally put a face to the name I’ve heard so much about.’ You said, barely able to contain your excitement at finally being given a partner. Sure the stories you’ve heard about the elven prince were…less then enlightening, framing him as an angry and vengeful being incapable of change, but the ones you’ve heard from Nuala however painted Nuada as a somewhat tragic figure.
‘I can’t remember the last time I saw my brother smile, if he even smiled at all.’ Nuala would say as a saddened look came across her face before she looked over at you when you abruptly grabbed her hand, face set in serious determination.
‘I’ll try and get him to smile more for you.’ You said.
‘It’s an impossible feat.’ Nuala counters but you weren’t having any of it.
‘Then I’ll just keep trying until I do, no matter how long that may take.’ You replied, staying strong to your conviction.
‘Why. Why would you go out of your way to do something for someone you barely even know?’ Nuala asked, feeling your strength, determination, heart and more theough just holding your hand alone. It was overwhelming of hoe bright you were that Nuala swore she would soon be blinded by your light alone, however it was because of your power of will that gave her hope, hope that you’ll might just do what she had long since believed to be impossible.
You merely smiled and relied with, ‘because even the strongest of us deserve to smile and like you said, you don’t remember the last time that you’ve seen your brother smile. So leave that to me and I promise to have Nuada smiling soon.’
And you always meant your promises. Always. What you wasn’t expecting was how handsome Nuada actually was. No one had bothered to tell you prior that your partner was a true beauty. A beauty with a piercing set of golden eyes and desirably soft, silky hair that fell past his shoulders in a platinum blonde waterfall. He held an air about him that made you both nervous and excited, however you had to quickly remind yourself that he wasn’t going to warm up to you nearly as quickly as you’d hoped.
Nuada on the other hand was immediately blindsided by your personality. It was so vibrant, colourful and filled to the brim with radiant life that he was certain that he looked rather dull and lifeless in comparison. It also looked as though his sister was right about many things in regard to your character, however that didn’t warrant Nuada to immediately start trusting you like she had wished for, after all you were still a human at the end of the day.
‘I’m-‘
‘Y/n. I’m aware.’ Nuada cuts you off abruptly before you could properly introduce yourself.
You made a face. ‘How-‘
‘My sister speaks highly of you,’ you began to smile at that but Nuada wasn’t finished, ‘but I have yet to witness what’s so special about you.’ You merely shrugged and answered with your entire chest. ‘You will soon enough. I promised your sister to get you to smile after all.’ Nuada’s brows raised at this but before he could get you to elaborate on that further, it was already time to head out for your first mission as a partnership.
Your first mission had turned out to be an avid success that it would only stand to reason to keep sending you and Nuada out as a team. You worked extremely well together and your fighting styles complement each others, while also concealing any weak spots that the other may have almost seamlessly. You and Nuada both complement missions in quick and swift succession. That was out in the field however, the way you acted towards Nuada afterwards made him feel a weird warmth within his chest.
You would often note of how Nuada fell a good distance behind everyone else after group missions, and so you would then fall to the back of the group also -not wanting him to be alone- before naturally falling into step with him, all the while still adhering to giving him his own personal space. You didn’t force a conversation with him like he expected you to, but instead allowed a calming silence to befall the pair of you as you headed home; Which was something he was oddly grateful to you for as he wasn’t that much of a conversationalist after battle.
However he couldn’t help but wonder why you were putting in so much effort into him. He hated your kind and yet you’ve treated him with nothing but respect and kindness. You didn’t push his boundaries, you didn’t overstay your welcome but even long after you left his side, Nauda could still feel your lingering warmth within every breeze that passed him by. Nuada just didn’t get why you were so hellbent on your promise to his sister, was it truly that important for you to help fulfil Nuala’s wish? And if so, what was it that she had said at the time for you that solidified your need to see it through film the end?
While Nuada had to admit, it was quite admirable that you kept to your word but some days he couldn’t help but question whether if that was your sole reason for sticking so close to him. Whether or not he’d ever confront you about it was his to debate upon later, but as for now he decided against it; His pride would never allow him to indulge in such thoughts and ideations that weren’t remotely relevant to hating humans.
Nuada had also noticed that after being your partner for a while, he had developed a need to protect you from all harm. At first he thought that if you died on a mission, the fault would fall onto him and he would be put back into confinement until further notice, but he soon learned that wasn’t actually the case; Far from it actually that he soon found himself sitting across from his sister to discuss about it.
‘Sounds like you have grown fond of y/n, brother.’ Nuala had said, smiling as she relishes in the times that Nuada obviously expressed interest in you without knowing it, but luckily that’s when the link they share makes situations like these a whole lot more simpler to navigate.
‘I merely find them more tolerable than others.’ Nuada defends, crossing his arms over his chest, still heavily in denial that anything he felt for you could possibly go beyond the realms of being cordial with one another. Yet that didn’t explain the sting in his chest whenever you were as joyful and excitable with anyone who wasn’t him, almost as though he wanted you to only beam that bright for him and him only.
‘Then why do you feel at peace with them near? Has their light finally unveiled your heart?’ Nuala asked and this time Nuada stayed silent for a longer period of time as he was beginning to realise that yes, you did infect have unveiled his heart from the shadows he cast over it. What scared him however was how you had done it. You constantly showed him patience during the times where he needed it, showed him understanding when he talked about his feelings, something he hadn’t done as much before meeting you; you even showed him solidarity for the times where he needed someone to stand by his side.
You had changed Nuada’s way of life in small but meaningful ways that there came a day where he starts to hate the fact that he had come this far without the gentle guidance of your voice for him to follow unto a better path. However despite acknowledging that you play a pivotal part in his current life, doesn’t mean that made Nuada’s understanding of his feelings any clearer than they were when he first discovered them.
‘They make me feel things I’d never thought I’d feel again Nuala.’ He began, knowing that whatever he said to his sister would be kept solely between them. ‘I’ve been lost admits my need for revenge that even the fluttering in my chest, or the warmth that reaches my cheeks feels foreign to me now.’ He adds, taking the time to remember the first time he felt something towards you that wasn’t explicit hatred for being human. ‘It feels as though I’m experiencing them for the first time and I can’t help but become addicted of sorts, that whenever they smile at me-‘
‘You hope that they smile at you like that forever.’ Nuala interrupts her brother softly, already quite well acquainted either that feeling from the times she felt Nuada’s emotions through the link.
‘Yes.’ Nuada said in an almost whisper. ‘I wish to be the reason y/n smiles as much as they are mine.’ Nuala couldn’t help but express her happiness for this new stage of Nuada’s life, all she wanted was for her brother to be happy and she was made even happier at the fact that it was you who made him the happiest he’s ever felt in a long time.
‘We shall get through this together brother.’ Nuala reassured, feeling her brothers’ still prevalent confusion, making Nuada look back at her, ‘then soon everything else will fall into place. You just have to put faith in the hope that y/n will be there to catch you when you fall.’
Nuada was still confused about everything but with hi sisters help, he hopes to surely get a clearer understanding of what he was currently feeling before confronting you about it.

Prince Nuada Headcanons! 🤍
Prince Nuada x gn!Reader headcanons. I recently watched Hellboy II and I couldn't help but simp. I wrote these headcanons on how I think a relationship with him would be, and I wanted to share them with you! We can always do with a little more Nuada love. I hope you like them, and feel free to add your own headcanons if you have any!! I would love to hear your ideas 💕
Also, these are safe for work!
Tumblr media
Protective, protective, protective. This beautiful, lonely prince knows how cruel the world can be, how many dangers lie in it. Every time he cradles your face in his hands delicately, he silently vows to himself that he will protect you. For once in his life, he has finally found his light - someone who listens to his troubles, who watches curiously as he tinkers with mysterious elven technology, who washes and braids his hair when he can’t bother to do so. He will fight to the death for you.
He is the literal embodiment of “scary dog privileges”, so if you ever want to go for a walk or a run after dark, he will be there by your side, scowling at anyone who looks at you for a moment too long.
He looms over you like a shadow, always ready to push you behind him and shield you with his body if someone or something threatens you.
This is especially true when you visit the Troll Market. You had to insist for Nuada to take you with him the first time, but in the end, he gave in, unable to resist your bright, hopeful eyes and warm smile (you are his weak spot, after all). He agrees on two conditions: you are not allowed to wander on your own, and if something dangerous happens (such as a skirmish or if a creature bothers you) the trip will be over, and you will return to the surface immediately.
Luckily, nothing dangerous happened and you were able to experience the bustling, chaotic atmosphere of the market undisturbed. Unexpected bonus: Nuada always kept a large hand on the small of your back, ready to guide you or to tuck you in the safety of his arms at a moment’s notice should something threaten your safety.
He loves it when you watch him train. It makes him proud to show off his strength, to remind you of his immense prowess and, by extension, his ability to defend you. He always puts in more effort when he knows you’re watching (he can’t help it: your adoring gaze is much too adorable to resist). He wouldn’t deny you if you asked him to train you, but he will remind you that you won’t ever need to pick up a sword as long as he breathes.
Nuala loves you!! She is so happy that her brother has found someone who cherishes him the way you do. She can’t hide her smile as she tells you that she has never seen her brother smile so much (which isn’t a lot, but for Nuada, it’s huge). She can feel how much you mean to him. She will want to get to know the person who has bewitched her brother body and soul (*wink wink*), so expect her to invite you to spend time with her to get to know you better. She grows to be really fond of your presence and of the joy that you bring. She is yours and Nuada’s number one fan.
Sometimes, Nuada just stares at you. He takes it all in: your beauty, your smile, your kindness - just you. He used to think that humans were hollow creatures, incapable of showing empathy or kindness towards anyone or anything. But then you came along. You, so sweet, so ready not to treat him differently because of his past or his actions. He never stood a chance.
When you two are alone, he’s all over you. His preferred form of physical affection is through spoiling you with soft, delicate touches that always leave you trembling and craving more of his warmth. He will tuck strands of hair behind your ear if he wishes to better see your beautiful eyes when you’re talking to him, only to peck your lips unexpectedly when the urge to be close to you overtakes him. He is a legendary warrior who is quick to bestow death upon his enemies, but with you, he is as gentle as a soft breeze. His gentleness is a stark contrast to his power, but wholly welcome.
He becomes quickly addicted to kissing you. Your lips are soft and heavenly, how can he resist? He will usually move his lips against yours slowly, savoring the moment, one big hand behind your head so he can kiss you to his heart’s content, and the other tucking you against his chest. He loves it: it reminds him that you’re safe with him, protected against all the evils in the world. He won’t let you go until you’re sighing in bliss against his lips.
He will let you braid and style his hair. He loves the feeling of your smaller fingers running through his hair. To be touched so softly after a lifetime of war is heavenly. And moreover, he has to admit that, even if you are not a professional, the hair styles you choose for him always suit him. He appreciates both simple updos and intricate braids – as long as he gets to feel your hands and spend time in your presence, he’s happy.
How could I forget his markings? Nuada will let you run the tips of your fingers over the markings over his nose and temple – he is proud of his heritage and even more proud of you accepting his culture. Similarly, he will let you explore his battle scars: they are reminders that he has fought many battles and won, and therefore they are a testament to his courage and strength.
He will tell you about his culture, his people, and his language. He will even try to teach you a few words in Elvish, loving the way his tongue sounds when spoken from your mouth (also, imagine him telling you how beautiful or amazing you are in Elvish, loving the way you have no idea that he’s saying such intimate things to you). He is very proud when you listen intently to his stories and ask questions. He will feel honored that you show this much interest for his culture, further solidifying his belief that you are the one he wants to spend his life with. Also, expect him to use so many pet names in Elvish!! And then he smirks when you ask him what they mean – you won’t get a response until he's kissed you tenderly, the meaning whispered against your lips soon after.
All in all, I think Nuada has a lot of love to give under all his layers of anger and anguish. He is a loyal partner and an exceptional friend, always ready to be your rock and to steady you when life becomes too tough. He is your watchful protector and your greatest ally 🤍.

Call My Name (Nuada x Reader)
Tumblr media
Nuada Silverlance (Hellboy) x Reader
TW: Some slight violence (as to be expected), but otherwise just Nuada being an emotionally-constipated ass
Word Count: ~5400 words
Prompt: I always call you by your title except the one time when you’re in trouble, enemies to lovers, slight hurt-comfort
I stayed up until 3 am writing this, so if you see a typo... no you didn't. Just a reminder that my requests are open so please send them in!
Your ability to get along with just about everyone is something you take a lot of pride in. When you first came under the protection of the BPRD with Red, you had quickly formed many valuable connections, even if you couldn’t call many of them true friends. And when Liz later joined the team, the two of you got on like wildfire (pun intended) almost instantly. Hell, even Manning acts agreeable towards you. You’ve always thought of yourself as a charming person, despite your somewhat off-putting appearance, and your skills in negotiation and peacemaking are unmatched.
That is, until a certain elf-prince came into the BPRD’s custody and put that to the test.
You hadn’t been part of the task team that fought in the Battle of the Golden Army, your… special skills pulling you away from the conflict to mediate between two warring tribes of giants in the Himalayas.
You are an Avian, a mutated human with wings and the ability to speak every language, both human and supernatural, on the planet. Had the two tribes gone to war, it would have been devastating for the entire Asian continent and would have exposed the entire supernatural world. Being deep into the world’s tallest mountains and in the throes of complicated negotiations meant that you had little to no communication to the outside world for weeks, so to say you were shocked to find out that the world had been incredibly close to being destroyed by an ancient army would be an understatement.
Even more shocking was finding out that the BPRD had taken the culprit into custody.
The compound was bustling with activity as you made your way through the long corridors to Manning’s office for your debrief. Familiar faces greeted you as you walked past, some stopping for a moment to ask you about your mission. There were a few who gave you a wide berth, eyeing your wings warily. You had grown used to such looks, knowing that your wings were far from the prettiest things to gaze upon. Avians are an incredibly rare type of mutation, but your specific type even more so. While most had beautiful feathered wings like that of an angel, yours more closely resembled a bat’s.
You unconsciously tuck your wings closer against your back, wishing that there was more room underground to stretch out to your full wingspan more often.
You knock on Manning’s door once before pushing your way in, too tired from your trip to wait for him to call you in. All you want to do is take a long, hot shower and sleep for days.
You’re surprised someone is already sitting there across from the director of the BRPD, and from the tension in his shoulders he isn’t very happy. His head snaps towards you the moment you step into the room, his golden eyes finding yours instantly. His mouth is pulled back into a sneer as he regards you coolly, eyes flicking up and down your form before settling on your wings. Something hardens in his gaze, and he quickly turns his body away from you as if you were not even there.
“Ah, you’ve returned!” Manning greets. “Well?”
“The conflict between the giants has successfully been resolved,” you report, trying hard to ignore the disdain that seems to be radiating from the golden-eyed man. “I doubt they will be so quick to go to arms with each other again.”
Manning hums in approval, settling back into his seat. “I want a full report typed up on my desk tomorrow.”  You nod, turning to leave. “Wait, there’s one more thing.”
You eye him warily, your hopes of a quick escape dashed. Manning gestures to the stranger in the room. “This is Nuada Silverlance, Prince of the Bethmoora Clan. He is in our charge for the foreseeable future.” You notice Nuada’s hands tightening into fists at his words. “I’ve assigned you to be his personal guide and companion while he settles into life here.”
“I do not need a guide.” The prince speaks for the first time. His voice is deep and smooth like honey, and you would find it strangely attractive if it weren’t for the fact that he was glaring at you as he spoke. “And I certainly do not want companionship from the likes of her. If I am to be forced to live in this insufferable human prison, then I wish to at least be left alone.”
“You will escort Nuada around the compound,” Manning ignores the silver-haired elf. “And you will help him with anything he needs as well as teach him about human culture.”
Nuada growls, getting to his feet abruptly. “Absolutely not!”
Manning eyes him coolly. “Need I remind you of the reason you're here in the first place. And if you have any hopes of repairing your relationship with your sister, I would recommend you behave and do as we say.”
You stifle a yawn as Nuada growls again, your jet lag really starting to make itself known. The elf turns his angry gaze towards you, rage sparking like molten gold in his eyes. “Am I boring you, human? Maybe a knife to your throat will wake you up.” He threatens.
“Really? Because I don’t see any weapons on you.” You gesture to his empty belt and  exaggeratedly look around the office. “Unless you’ve hidden one somewhere. Is the knife here in the room with us?”
Nuada looks like a volcano about to erupt, and you have to stifle a laugh. “That’s enough, (Name).” Manning says. “If you would be so kind as to show Nuada to his room. It’ll be right across from yours.”
Great.
You and the elf-prince exit Manning’s office in silence and stand awkwardly in the hallway. “Okay,” you clear your throat. “It’s this way.”
You walk a few paces before you realize Nuada isn’t following. You sigh, mustering up the last of your remaining energy as you face the still-glaring prince. “Look, I know you don’t want to be here. Hell, I wouldn’t either. But you are, and from what I’ve heard about what happened, there’s much worse places you could be.” You hold up your hand to stop him as he takes an angry step forward. “We can fight about this tomorrow, but I have had a very long day. And I can promise you that of all the people to get assigned to be your chaperone, you could do a whole lot worse than me. So unless you want me to go get Red to be your buddy, I recommend that you follow me to your room.”
With that, you turn and begin walking away again, a small smile pulling at your lips when you hear light, almost-silent footsteps following behind you.
By the time you reach your rooms, your wings are dragging against the ground with exhaustion. “That’s yours, I guess.” You gesture vaguely at the door across from yours. “If you need anything, just knock or find one of the guards. I’m sure they won’t be far.”
Nuada nods stiffly and enters into his room, closing the door solidly behind him. “Good talk,” you sigh. You spend the rest of the evening decompressing from your trip, taking a hot bath and relaxing in bed with a cup of tea, and most importantly, keeping your mind off of the intriguing elf-prince just across the hall from you.
~~~
You’re shockingly unbothered for the entire night, managing to sleep well into the next day. By the time you drag yourself out of bed, it’s shortly before noon and your stomach is making its hunger known.
You dress quickly and go to knock on Nuada’s door. You wait several moments with no response and knock again, louder this time.
“What do you want, human?” Nuada growls, opening the door half-way.
“I thought you might be hungry and figured I could show you to the dining hall.”
The elf narrows his eyes but reluctantly steps out. “If you must.”
You struggle to hide your amusement at the sight of his disgusted face when you get to the bustling cafeteria. Agents roam between full tables and a clamor of voices and cutlery scraping against plates fills the air. Your smile fades when Nuada suddenly goes rigid. You follow his gaze to see Nuala sitting at a table with Abe. Their bodies are angled towards each other, knees knocking together as Abe leans forward to brush a stray hair behind her ear.
Before you can stop him, Nuada is stalking forward, and you struggle to keep up behind him without knocking into anyone with your wings. Nuala gazes up at her brother with a face devoid of emotion while Abe pulls back awkwardly. “Sister, I wish to speak with you privately.”
“Whatever you have to say can be said to the both of us, brother.” She replies evenly. You hang back, unsure of if you should redirect this before the elf-prince causes a scene.
“You really stoop so low as to openly fraternize with a traitor? You would truly embarrass your people this way?” Nuada shoots Abe a withering glare. The fish-man blinks in surprise. “Uhm, excuse me, but-”
“I love Abe, brother. I expect you to respect my choice.” Nuala reaches over and clasps his hand in her own. “And he is far from a traitor.”
“He helps the enemy! He lives amongst them as if they are family!” Nuada hisses.
“They are my family,” Abe replies smoothly. “If you were to let go of your hate, you could see all the good that they do.”
Nuada growls, taking a menacing step forward. “Hey, let’s maybe not do this here, yeah?” You finally butt in, acutely aware that the dining hall has gone completely quiet and everyone’s attention in on you.
The elf-prince turns and stalks away without a word, leaving you struggling to keep up with him once again. He’s already half-way down the hall when you catch up to him, and you reach forward to grab at his wrist. “Nuada, hold on a second-”
“Don’t you dare touch me, you filth!”
You reel back for a moment, shocked at his outburst in one second and enraged in the next.
“And don’t you dare talk to me like that, your highness.” You square up to the prince, matching his angry gaze with your own. “You may be royalty amongst your kind, but that doesn’t give you any right to speak to me in such a manner. I have done nothing but try to help you.”
“I never asked for your help.” Nuada hisses, looming over you in a certain way that you try very hard not to pay attention to. “If you haven’t noticed, I am being held here against my will.”
You soften slightly, feeling slightly bad for him despite yourself. “I know you are. But you tried to wipe out the entire human race- what did you expect to happen? The best you can do now is try and make the most of being here. It really isn’t so bad once you get used to it.”
“I will never accept being a prisoner here.” Nuada growls, whipping around and stalking off in the direction of his room.
You watch him go with a frown, deciding to give him some time to cool off.
“I apologize for my brother,” a soft voice speaks from behind you.
Nuala stands there with Abe standing slightly behind her, a sympathetic look on her face. “He has always been quick to anger, even when we were elflings.”
You give her a lopsided smile, reaching out a hand to introduce yourself formally. “I appreciate the apology, but none is needed, at least not from you.”
You cast a glance in the direction the elf in question disappeared off to. “I feel bad for him, in a way. Even though he tried to commit mass genocide and all.”
“My brother is very passionate when it comes to the preservation of our people.” Nuala sighs. “Unfortunately, his means of acting on them are grossly misguided.”
You leave the two of them to go on their way, heading back into the dining hall to actually eat this time. After making a quick sandwich, you leave with some fruit and bread wrapped in a napkin. You place it in front of Nuada’s door, knocking sharply twice before heading to the training room for some practice.
Only once he’s certain you’ve left does Nuada open his door, stamping down the small twinge of guilt he feels as he picks up the food you’ve left for him.
~~~
Nuada doesn’t leave his room once for the next three days. The only indication you have that he’s still in there is the faint light from beneath the door and the fact that the food you leave for him always quickly disappears.
On the third day, you grow tired of awkwardly hanging around in the hallway debating on knocking on his door and finally do so.
You wait a few moments before knocking again, louder this time.
“You humans are so impatient. I was going to answer.” Nuada gives as way of greeting. “What do you want?”
“I was wondering if you wanted to come with me to the training room.” You offer with what you hope is a convincing smile. “It’s always empty at this time of day and I figured you might enjoy a change of scenery.”
The prince quirks an eyebrow at you suspiciously but begrudgingly gestures for you to lead the way.
You ask him about his preferred weapon, surprised that he answers your question without malice. He tells you of his prized spear, indulging you in a tale of how it was forged.
You hum in thought before the weapon wall, grabbing a bo staff and handing it to him. “It’s not elven-made, but it’s the closest training weapon we have to what you’re used to.”
Nuada gives it a few test swings, getting used to its weight. While he does so, you unsheath your personal dual swords from their scabbards, examining them closely before deeming them acceptable for the training session.
You settle into a loose fighting stance, shooting the elf a wicked grin. “Ready when you are, princeling.”
He surges forward without warning, immediately going on the offense. You parry his blow easily, following it with a lunge of your own. The sound of metal on metal begins to fill the room as you match each other blow for blow, both of you unable to land a hit on the other. You blink at the sweat threatening to drip into your eyes, searching for any chink in the prince’s otherwise impenetrable stance.
He takes a small step back, presumably to gain momentum for his next attack, but in that moment you spot his weakness. He shifts too much weight into that one foot, and before he can pivot towards you, you’re darting forward with a well-aimed strike to his knee.
He wobbles, off-balanced for a second. That second is all you need, and before he can comprehend it, he’s knocked onto his back with one of your blades pointed at his throat.
He ignores the hand you offer to him, pushing himself to his feet without a word. He can’t help the glimmer of respect he feels for you as you smile at him, finally wiping the sweat from your brow.
You stretch your arms languidly above your head, and he averts his eyes from the sliver of soft skin that becomes visible as your top rides up slightly.
“I haven’t had to work so hard to win against someone in forever.” You say. “We’ll have to do this again sometime.”
“That would be… amenable.”
You grin in victory, pleased at having won two battles today. “Come on, there’s one more place I want to show you while we’re over on this side of the building.”
You lead him to the library, which is almost always virtually devoid of anyone else. The prince can’t completely keep the look of pleasure off his space as he explores the countless titles, pulling some of them to take back to his room with him.
As you bid him goodbye to take a shower, you could swear his gaze lingers on you slightly longer as you turn toward your own chambers.
~~~
Things are slightly different after that day.
Nuada still makes his displeasure at being the BPRD’s prisoner apparent, and he is often cold and grumpy in his demeanor, but he does not direct such harsh words at you again. You continue to train together, slowly learning each other’s fighting styles and testing them with a variety of different weapons. You know Manning isn’t very pleased that you’re allowing the prince to wield a weapon, but the way you see it, it allows him to blow off some steam and that’s a win in your book.
You also begin to spend time in the library together, most of the time just reading your separate books in silence. There’s something oddly… domestic about it, if you would allow yourself to think of it in that way.
Thoughts like these are dangerous though, for as the weeks go by, you begin to find yourself attracted to the silver-haired elf.
You realize the true depth of these feelings with startling clarity one night after you see Nuada smile for the first time. It is small and barely-there, pulling at his lips after he finds a book of elven fairy-tales on a shelf tucked in the very back of the library, but the sight of it nearly knocks the air out of your lungs.
There’s no denying the elf is incredibly handsome, but his smile completely transforms his face from alluring to ethereal. You avert your gaze before he can notice, and resolve to never let your feelings become apartment to him.
Because at the end of the day, you’re still just a human, wings or not.
You struggle particularly hard one evening in the library to focus on the book you’ve chosen, stealing quick glimpses at the elf sitting across from you through your hair.
“You’re staring,” He hums, long fingers flicking to the next page without looking up at you.
“Just thinking.” You say, forcing your attention back to the page in front of you. You read the same sentence four times before getting to your feet, carefully marking your place before setting the book down. “I can’t stand being inside one moment longer,” You announce.
Nuada raises an eyebrow. “I do not believe I am ‘allowed’ to leave the premises, if you weren’t aware.” He comments drily, and you scoff.
“Who said anything about leaving?
Cool wind whips at you as you push open the door to the roof, and you sigh in relief at the open air. Stars twinkle overhead, the compound being far enough from the city lights to be able to see a faint haze of the galaxy spread across the sky.
You allow your wings to stretch to their full span for what feels like the first time in ages, giving a small flap that lifts your feet slightly above the ground for a moment.
You can feel the prince’s eyes on you, and you extend one of your wings towards him. “You can touch it, if you want. Most people are curious.”
You suppress a shiver as his calloused hand swipes experimentally over the skin, not expecting your wings to be so sensitive to his touch. He drags his fingertips over the back, marveling at how a limb so strong could feel so soft. “Have you always been like this?” He asks softly.
“I was born with them, yes.” You say, directing your attention to the stars above your head. “Gave my parents quite a shock, I suppose, seeing as they put me up for adoption immediately after I was born. I was taken in by Professor Bruttenholm, who raised me alongside Red. He taught me that my wings are a gift, a way to do good despite what others may see them as.”
You turn to see Nuada is gazing at you intently. “Others have treated you horribly for your appearance.” He doesn’t say it as a question.
“That’s true,” you smile wryly. “People can definitely be cruel. But they can also be incredibly kind, and while there may be a couple here who will avoid me in the hallways, for the most part the BPRD is my family.”
You meet the prince’s gaze imploringly. “I know you hold significant anger for humanity. And I even understand why. But don’t punish an entire race for the sins of a few. There are many who care a whole lot… like me.” For you.
You don’t say that last part, but you know he understands its implication. Over the course of you speaking, the two of you have somehow gravitated closer to each other. You stare into the elf’s golden eyes, now inches from your own.
Your hands brush together as he draws even closer, and your breath hitches slightly at the electricity that the touch elicits.
“I must admit I have grown rather fond of you,” Nuada murmurs, almost as if he doesn’t even realize. “You have made being here slightly more bearable.”
You huff out a laugh as his warm breath fans across your cheeks. Your eyelids begin to flutter closed as his lips just barely brush against yours. All of the sudden, he yanks himself away, his face a mixture of disbelief and fury.
“You have bewitched me,” the prince hisses, eyes devoid of the warmth they had held just moments ago. “I see your ploy now, witch. You would make me a traitor to my own kind, complacent to stay here forever and allow humanity to corrupt what little of the natural world there is left.”
“Nuada, I-” you stumble in disbelief, reeling from the complete change in his attitude.
“Silence!” He roars, causing you to take an involuntary step back. Gone is any of the tenderness he had directed towards you, replaced with cold, simmering rage. For the first time, you find yourself slightly afraid of him.
"You are nothing but a filthy human with extra appendages,” he spits viciously, and you rear back as if he had slapped you. “And I will always hate you just like the rest of your despicable kind.”
He leaves you on the roof, slamming the door behind him with a bang.
You don’t know how long you stand in the cold, completely dumbfounded by Nuada’s actions. All the progress you’d made with him had vanished in an instant, any hope of him possibly returning your feelings snatched away in the cruelest way possible.
You finally shake yourself out of your shock, reaching up to wipe the silent tears off your cheeks. You suppose that you should have expected this. You’d been foolish to think that you and the elvish prince could even remotely be friends, much less anything more.
You bury your hurt deep, deciding that from now on that you would avoid Nuada at all costs. Manning would just have to find someone else to accompany him around.
You make your way back to your room in a daze, heart twisting as you briefly glance at the door across from yours.
You don’t sleep at all that night, wrapping your wings comfortingly around yourself and shivering from the cold that has seemed to settle itself right against your bones.
~~~
You and Nuada do not speak for a month.
You deliberately avoid his gaze every time you pass each other in the halls, and if he happens to be in the training room or library whenever you are, you leave until he is finished.
By some twisted form of masochism, you spend a lot of time on the rooftop, staring blankly at the horizon.
Life without the elvish prince is boring and monotonous, and you have no idea how you carried out your days before he was there to occupy all your time. It doesn’t help that you’ve barely been given any missions, the few you’re called on only pulling you away from the compound for a few days at a time.
If anyone notices the change in either of your attitudes, they don’t say anything. Nuala often looks at you with sympathy and Liz seems to hang around more despite being constantly busy with the twins, but neither of them address your listlessness.
You’re sitting in the library pretending to read when a lower agent approaches you. “Manning wants to see you in his office.”
You get up with a sigh, already not looking forward to this conversation.
You struggle to keep any emotion from showing on your face when you see Nuada is sitting across from Manning’s desk. A strong sense of deja vu hits you as his gaze meets yours and flicks away just as quickly before you can read anything there. The director of the BPRD clears his throat, obviously having caught the brief exchange.
“There has been a troll sighting not far from here,” Manning directs towards you. “They’re bold, amassing forces so close to our base. I’m sending a large team to go deal with the problem.” He gestures to the elf who is pointedly not looking at you. “Nuada will be accompanying you.”
You immediately open your mouth to protest, your refusal dying on your tongue as Manning holds up a hand to silence you. “The prince has not caused any problems during his stay here and I believe it is time for him to start becoming more involved with our operations. He will be your responsibility while out on the field.”
You grind your teeth so hard you fear they might crack as Manning dismisses you both. You speed-walk out of the office before Nuada can get to his feet, trying to put as much distance between the two of you as possibly.
It’s a little hard to do that while in the back of a transport van, which you find yourself seated in the next morning. You do your best to ignore the elf sitting across the aisle from you as you’re jostled along. You grip your dual swords sitting across your lap, trying to keep your mind on the mission ahead.
You’re the first out of the van when it stops, immediately beginning to scan your surroundings. Your group has been dropped off right in front of a dense part of the forest, the trees so close together it's impossible to see between them.
As the rest of the team assembles on the grass, you strap your swords to your back and launch yourself into the air, trying to get a better glimpse into the thicket. You swoop closer to the treetops, but the branches are too thick to see through, and you return to the clearing with no luck.
“I can barely see into there,” you report. “They’ve chosen their hideout well.”
Red claps his hands together, calling everyone closer to him. “We’ll have to split up to cover more ground. Me and Liz will head north-west into the forest. (Name), you and Nuada will go north-east. The rest of you fan out in between.”
Ice settles into your heart as the group disperses, leaving you and Nuada alone. “We’d better get going,” you address the elf for the first time in weeks, not waiting for him to reply before you start walking into the trees.
The two of you hike in silence for some minutes, pushing aside branches and foliage with every step. You grumble quietly to yourself, wishing you could stretch your wings. Nuada stops suddenly, his hand on your wrist and a slender finger pressed to his lips to keep you quiet.
Warmth begins to creep up your arm from where his skin touches yours, but the hair standing up at the back of your head distracts you from it. The sounds of the forest have gone completely silent, leaving behind an eerie ringing that you don’t know is in your head or not.
Nuada pulls you down suddenly, wide eyes meeting your own as an arrow embeds itself in the wood right behind where your head had just been.
“Run,” he growls, and then you’re both taking off through the trees.
Branches whip at your face as you race through the thicket, knobby roots seeming to reach up to try and trip you with every stride.
You scramble to a halt as a troll seems to materialize out of the branches before you, his sharp teeth and red eyes gleaming in the dappled sunlight that manages to filter through the leaves. You draw your swords, preparing for a fight. Your swords meet his in a clash of metal on metal, and you grunt from the exertion. The troll is strong, and your stomach rolls at the stench of his breath as he grins wickedly at you.
“(Name)!” A scream of your name steals your attention just enough to notice the troll that has also been creeping up behind you, but it is already too late.
A hard blow strikes you across the back of the head, and you crumple immediately. An enraged roar and a high-pitched squeal of pain that is suddenly cut off is the last thing you hear before your world completely goes black.
~~~
You wake slowly, head pounding with every beat of your heart.
You blink blearily, the sight of one of the BPRD’s hospital rooms coming into focus. Movement from beside you shifts your attention, and you’re shocked to see Nuada sitting uncomfortably in one of the metal chairs by your bedside.
He is dressed in fresh robes, his silver hair pulled back and a somber look on his face. You gaze at him silently, not trusting yourself to speak for multiple reasons.
“I owe you numerous apologies,” he begins without ceremony. “I was cruel and incredibly unkind. I have no excuse other than my own bigotry and confusion. I did not know how to handle my emotions and lashed out at you as a result.”
You allow him to grab your hand, the same warmth beginning to creep up your arm. You can’t deny that it feels nice, but you don’t exactly want to forgive him just yet.
“I feel… very strong emotions for you.” Nuada says, his face sincere as he looks at you. For once, there is no anger lurking in his sight, and his eyes are golden pools of sunlight. “I did not want to admit to myself what they were at the time, but seeing you hurt proves that I can fight it no longer.” The prince takes a deep breath. “I love you, (Name). And I will spend every day for the rest of our lives making up for the hurt I have caused you, if you would allow me to court you.”
You press your lips to his, the kiss soft and hopeful. He responds immediately, carefully bringing his hand up to caress your cheek and hold you to him. This kiss is everything that your first one should have been, and you pull away reluctantly despite yourself.
“You have a lot of making up to do,” you say with a smile. Nuada smiles back, his entire face lighting up with joy.
“I will make you my queen,” he vows. “You will never want for anything from this day forward.”
You can’t help the laugh that escapes at how serious he’s being, reaching forward to intertwine your fingers with his.
“Let’s maybe start with dinner, hm?”
Hello!! I was wondering if you still do Hellboy character requests? If so, could you maybe do a Prince Nuada head canon with a agent reader?
Prince Nuada X Agent Reader Headcanons
Tumblr media
A/N: Might turn this into a fic tbh. seems like more of a summary of a story then HCs haha. Hopefully these are enough for ya'll to enjoy
Pairing(s): Prince Nuada X Agent!Reader
Characters: Prince Nuada, Reader, Hellboy, Nuala
Link: Hellboy
⚠️ Warnings!: minor bits of non-descript violence, not canon compliant, kidnapping
______________________________________________________________
✨Being on the opposing side of the main conflict in HB2, it took a long time for Nuada to even consider you an ally, let alone later, a lover.
✨He first met you at the Troll Market, when you stumbled upon him. You were investigating a lead which ended up with the two of you fighting in one of the less populated parts of the market. Down a side-street.
✨He was impressed with your ability to wield a crossbow, along with quick-thinking hand-to-hand combat. Having been trained in several different martial art styles, you were able to hold you own. However, you had a hard time keeping up with Nuada's inhuman agility. In the end you were spared by taking your fight to a slightly more populated area and disappearing into a crowd due to him hesitating to kill you.
✨This is where the seed was planted for him to take notice of you. His feelings are still largely negative, with your next confrontation being at the library when Nuada comes for his sisters half of the crown.
✨He and Hellboy fight, but you end up cutting in after Hellboy is injured and end up having another fight with Nuada yourself. Instead of killing you, he ends up almost fatally injuring you. You end up spending the final confrontation in critical condition recovering in a medical wing of the BRPD
✨The crown is destroyed and Nuada + Nuala both survive the events of HB2. Nuada is taken in as a prisoner of war by the BRPD.
✨While Nuala picks up the pieces of her shattered people, creating a treaty with humanity to find above-ground land her people can live on, Nuada is planning his escape.
✨You've been assigned to helping with relations between Nuala and members of BRPD who are seeking to create beneficial relations between their bureau and the Bethmoran people
✨You end up confronting him while in captivity about him nearly killing you, and expressing that if he ever escaped you would hunt him down.
✨Seeing your scars visible from how he injured you, while he's still filled with hatred, there is a tinge of regret for hurting you.
✨His sister wants to give Nuada a second chance to do something for his people by contributing valuable information from his travels in order to determine what land would be beneficial to move the new Bethmora to.
✨He see's her attempts at relations with humanity as a futile attempt and continues to refuse to help. However, when you threaten to leave him to rot as you are one of the only people who he will get to see, Nuada says he will offer some help if you come back the next day.
✨Thus begins the tentative relationship between the two of you, as he offers a little info each visit, his spite lessening slowly.
✨As you begin to create some weird comfortable rhythm to your visits, Nuada starts to open up a little about his past and debate you on your people (humanity).
✨Though you do argue, and have many differing opinions on the topics, Nuada is feeling conflicted about what are starting to become feelings of familiarity and affection towards you.
✨He hates himself for starting to have feelings towards an Agent in the BRPD let alone a human. However, this won't stop him in his pursuit to escape his prison and get revenge.
✨Eventually he will have all he needs in order to finally break out of the BRPD. While doing so, he ends up confronting you again.
✨Your fight goes a little better with you nearly defeating Nuada. However, he does get the upper hand and manages to disarm you. However, instead of killing you, he takes you hostage as a bargaining chip to use against the BRPD
✨During this kidnapping you end up having even more heated arguments about how what he's doing is wrong, and his feelings towards you gives him even more inner conflict about what he is doing.
✨He takes you to one of his hideouts in the tunnels of the subway system beneath the city. There you end up noticing for the first time his reluctance to hurt you badly, unlike before.
✨You confront him about this and he admits on some level that he has started to like you, and it is something he wants to quash.
✨This realization starts to make you think more about your own conflicted feelings, and how there might be something there within you which could be affection.
✨In the end, although you are on differing sides of a conflict, tension builds to a breaking point and you end up sharing a kiss.
✨This creates even more conflicting emotions within you both. Nuada tries to distance himself, and you try to figure out what you are going to do.
✨Finally you make the decision that whatever this is between you, it isn't as important as what Nuala is doing for her people. You can't let Nuada use you or whatever he's planning to destroy the relations between humanity and the Bethmoran people.
✨Planning your own escape, you find the right opportunity to get away, taking advantage of Nuada's affection for you and your training as an agent to disappear.
These are a lot of HCs so I'm gonna leave it there. I think any more and this would be the plot to a novel lmao
Part 2 my people! Let’s make this a good one!
Tumblr media
While you two were walking in the hallways of the palace, you wondered if you could find many books about the Bethmoora clan.
Now don’t get it wrong, you didn’t want to learn the Bethmoora clan’s history because of some strategy or something to use against them, but learning more about other beings than just other humans was enough to dream about exploring the outside world.
Ϛ⃘๑•͡ .̫•๑꒜ℒℴѵℯ❤
Seems as though the advisor was a little concerned about what you were thinking. Probably curious instead since it’s been a long while since anyone showed pi Now don’t get it wrong, you didn’t want to learn the Bethmoora clan’s history because of some strategy or something to use against them, but learning more about other beings than just other humans was enough to dream about exploring the outside world. Who could blame him since he is the one who was technically force to guide you somewhere away from the important “royal meeting”.
“So your highness” he started but you hold up your hand quickly. “If you want you can just call me (y/n). Everyone back home usually doesn’t say your highness only for specific reasons.” You said before walking a little faster to catch up to him. “Oh? A may I ask why do you receive disrespectful treatment as though your title does not exist? Surely your parents must be furious about this sort of mishap with the servants I presume?”
You looked down while walking a little slower than usual. He had to slow down a bit to see your frown better.
“No I’m sorry.” You said while looking up at him with a small smile. “The clan may have seem to have good respect to their king and his children, but mine do not serve the same purpose but just to fetch me food and books from the library.”
“Ah I see then.” He stops in front of the library doors and turns to you in a look you can’t recognize. “Then please forgive me if I seem to have been shown to displease you in any way.” “Oh! Not at all!” You said waving yours hands in front of you while trying to choose your words carefully. “You were great help to me and great company as well! Thank you for showing me where the library will be at.” You both bow before he leaves and you went inside the room where still the knowledge you wanted to see can be found.
The library was very quiet and looks to be taken care of just like yours from back home. It seems as though it was used a lot , account of the books piled up on the tables and the many shelves that look almost like you were in a maze. It was messy, but it made you felt at home with the place you leave through the books filled with fantasy, drama, romance and surprises at every corner in every page.
And speaking of surprises in every corner-
“Can I help you human?” A baritone voice said that sounded more of a command then a question. You turned around and spot a elf with long white hair and a frown that makes it obvious you weren’t welcomed here.
“I’m sorry if I’m intruding you sir.” You bowed with your head hung low. You never got over the habit of apologizing to many people who deemed you as a nuisance. You have your sister to thank for that. “My name is Princess y/n and I am here to spend my time here while my family finishes a meeting. I’m very sorry again for intruding.”
You couldn’t tell if he was upset at you or looking at you at all since you still had your head hung low. Maybe he’s wondering what kind of Princess “hung her head low to a elf no less?”
Huh…he thought so too.
“We’ll I’m not allowed to join them while they discuss about important matters, especially with the king of your clan.” You responded, having no trouble sounding more reserved towards the gentleman who didn’t seem to be displeased at your presence nor didn’t seem to want to dismiss you from the library.
“Very well then,” he says sitting down at the chair across from you while you raise your head and see him walk to the table you are occupying and picks up a book from the table, “then I’ll just continue reading from this book while you bid your time reading from the others. I do recommend though that you don’t cause any disturbance that might upset the librarian.”
He states right before glaring at you with a very look of distrust. You can’t seem to read him that well. He doesn’t seem to have any problems with you staying but he also seems to be annoyed with you around. It’s a continual battle of whether to please him by departing and finding a new place to spend you time or just to stay and be quiet. Since technically you don’t know the place well, it shouldn’t hurt to stay quiet and just find a book to read; especially since he seems to already look irritated by just feeling your presence.
“Alright” You responded, “but I do really mean it about me leaving the room if I’m bothering you sir.” you then pick up a random book from the nearest shelf and start to read. He glances up at you before continuing to read his book.
You both end up reading in silence while the sun was shifting from the afternoon to later mid-day. You would occasionally pick a different book when you finished yours and start reading with a small smile upon your face. It seemed like forever ago when you would go to your library and read books that had questions that you wish to know. For example, you were curious about how pirates act nowadays or if there was really a treasure island for pirates to roam and search of.
While you were busy reading a plot twist in your book, you failed to sense a pair of eyes watching you from time to time when you scrunch up your nose or when your eyebrows furrow during a chapter of the story.
Once you found a stopping point, you raise your head to see those pair of eyes looking at you from across the table. It freaks you out at first because usually the looks you get are either in disgust or in denial of your heritage of your family. In this case, you couldn’t tell what he was thinking of what he felt about you.
“May I ask why you are staring at me sir?”
He closes his book and lays it on top of the table before he crosses his arm on top of them.
“Why aren’t you with your family in the dining room discussing with the king? Normally, most humans are with him trying to have an alliance with our people, especially princesses who generally aren’t found in a library to waste an hour.”
You looked down embarrassed by his remark targeted to you, well it would sound so, and closed your book so that you can try to focus on this elf man across from the table.
“Well for starters sir, my family have always left me out of their conversations, especially when they go on their outings when they have time to get together. I do try to talk to my maids or the butlers, but most of the time I see their displeasure in talking to me. This led me to see that I don’t fit into anyone’s expectations of a good daughter or a great princess in their eyes.”
You looked at him and was surprised that he seemed to pay attention to your words. How long ago did someone look at you and listened that same way this librarian was?
“And are you ok with the way you are treated? It doesn’t sound like you enjoy feeling ignored or disrespected by others, including your own servants whom you have the control over if I’m correct.”
“Maybe so” You responded with a genuine smile at him, “but I rather someone talk to me or like me not because they have to, but because they desire to do so.”
Before he could respond, a servant walks to him and whispers in his ear in the language you couldn’t understand before seeing that he probably is about to leave you alone. He walks with the other elf, and they start to chatter behind your back. It seemed suspicious since the servant kept glancing at you from time to time and the man would have a small frown every now and then. Their conversation probably isn’t a good one you thought. He comes back and takes the books he had in his arms, and you already notice that it’s a sign that he is about to leave.
“Oh! Are you needed elsewhere sir? I’m sorry to take much of your time if you were supposed to leave soon!” You stand up but he stops you before you did anything else strange.
“It is nothing that you should worry about, but yes, I am needed somewhere. However, my servant also told me that the meeting is done, and you are asked to meet your family at the dining room where the king is at.” He gives his servant the small stacks of books for them to put away before strolling over to you with his hand extended in your direction. You got confused for a bit until he chose to grab your hand and leave a gentle kiss on your palm. You never felt so flustered at the fact that a man, let alone a prince had left the touch of his lips linger on your hand before raising his head at your level.
“I hope you have a wonderful time here in the library and I would like to extend my gratitude for your honesty and kindness.” He then leaves you alone at the table, feeling bewildered at his change of attitude, and you start to wonder if what you said to him made him had a different view towards you. You don’t think about it even when you walk out of the library doors, and you hope that the way he talked to you wouldn’t be the last time someone treated you that way. It has been forever since someone didn’t mind your presence.
You’ll probably come to regret that thought once you realize what you’re really in for.
Was inspired by the lovely @thedragonkween and her amazing Nuada HCs which I’ll link here to spread some more love for this elf boi! Hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Nuada x fem elf reader
In public, you can expect the Prince to be very well mannered and courtly. Walking with you on his arm, opening the door for you, pulling out your chair, kissing your hand etc. He also really enjoys slow dancing with you, and will insist on you letting him teach you even when you’re self conscious about your abilities. He’ll correct your stance with gentle touches until you relax into him and trust him to lead. All his centuries of stealth training left Nuada extremely light on his feet, and you feel like you’re flying as you two glide across the floor, safely wrapped in the arms of your love. Nuada can’t help but stare into your beautiful eyes the whole time, and runs his hand up your side as you move in rhythm with the music. You quickly become the envy of the king’s court as other elves vying for the prince’s affection know they have missed their chance the moment they see how attentive Nuada is with you.
You and Nuala quickly become like sisters and she often invites you to spend the day with her while Nuada is working. She loves to braid golden flowers into your hair and has taken it upon herself to be your personal stylist; always having an eye for the clothes and jewelry that would look best on you.
And if Nuada’s star struck expression and him nearly falling to his knees after seeing you in a gown she’d chosen is anything to go by, I’d say she does a pretty good job.
Nuala can feel the warm waves of love that roll off of your soul, and cherishes the joy your presence brings. She can also sense a change in Nuada’s heart since you’ve been in his life. Your light has begun to chip away at the darkness that threatens to consume his being and she is grateful to you for bringing her brother back to his old self.
Nuada has more than once walked in on you and Nuala laughing at some childhood story where he’s done something foolish. Nuala’s favorite jokes are the ones at her brother’s expense.
Nuada’s favorite quality about you is your kind heart, so he protects your emotional well-being as much as your physical. The moment he senses your distress, he’s at your side in a matter of seconds ready to shield you anyway he needs to. He can actually use his spiritual energy to put up a temporary protective wall around your mind. No matter what gets thrown at you from the perpetrator, it will not be able to touch you mentally or emotionally so long as Nuada is around.
Seriously though, no one had better threaten you in any capacity. They won’t live. Period. They can run. But they can’t hide.
Nuada will never curtail your freedom; he believes that you deserve to revel in all the splendors this earth has to offer. However, he will be accompanying you. He’s a legendary warrior with centuries of experience. Let him use his skills to keep the most precious one in his life safe. If he is unable to go with you somewhere, he will appoint his trusted affiliate Mr. Wink to assure your safety.
When you and Nuada are alone, you’ve flipped a switch in him. The Prince who, five minutes ago, was tearing through enemies in bloody armor, is now cradling you to his chest and placing soft kisses on your temples as soon as your chamber door is closed. After he’s cleaned up of course. Nuada refuses to touch your precious skin with hands stained with the blood of foul creatures.
As you both love and honor your elvish culture, you use your native tongue as the primary means of communicating when alone. He loves to call you “my light” “my soul” and “my everything” in elvish.
You two spend a lot of time in the library, you cradled in his lap while he reads to you.
This was a lot of fun! Would anyone be interested in a part 2? Possibly some NSFW HCs next?
Lost Love (Nuada x OC)
Long before the battle of the golden army, Nuada loved a human. But they were taken away from him, causing his hatred for humanity to grow stronger
Tumblr media
______________________________________________
Many Many Years Ago
A smile rests upon the woman's face as she hums to herself. Feeling the soft breeze of spring press against her face has never felt so calming. In her hands, she busies herself with making a crown out of the flowers that surround her.
Her nimble fingers work expertly in crafting the crown. Looping the stems and locking them together to hold the flowers close. Thorns prick at her fingers but she doesn't mind. Some of the most beautiful things can be made through pain.
Soon, her humming becomes singing.
"A man came across this old tower one day,
It was straight like from a book he once read,
He lifted his head up and saw this young lady and here is what the lady said,"
Lifting her head up, the woman picks up her voice and sings louder.
"Moi Je M'appelle Mademoiselle Noir, et comme vous pouvez le voir, je ne souris, ni ris, ni vis.
Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit, di di di,"
As she works and sings, she hears the crunch of approaching footsteps. They are soft, almost unable to be distinguished. But she can hear them.
The smile grows wider on the woman's face; she doesn't turn around. Because she knew who it was. She ceases her singing and waits quietly as she continues her threading.
The footsteps grow louder and louder until they stop right behind her.
"What are you doing, Isabella?" asked the soft voice of her lover.
"Waiting for you, your highness." Isabella said. "I busied myself with making a flower crown."
A soft chuckle escapes her lover's mouth as they sit themself down beside Isabella. He rests his hand on Isabella's shoulder, giving it a rub.
"It looks beautiful, just like you."
Isabella's face becomes flushed at his compliment. She turns away from her work to look at her lover.
A handsome elf sits beside her. Long platinum blond hair with black tips, porcelain white skin, black lips, and beautiful golden eyes. He is dressed in elegant robes with armor clasped over them. On his hips rested two swords strapped to his waist.
A true beauty for elven people but terrifying for humans. To Isabella, he is beautiful.
"You flatter me, good sir." she said with a giggle.
"Enough pleasantries, Belle. You don't need to be so formal with me, I've told you again and again." he said amused.
"I know, Nuada. I just feel like I must be formal as you are royalty and I am a mere human commoner." Isabella said with a sad frown.
Nuada doesn't allow her to be sad as he kisses Isabella's forehead. His lips are cool against her warm skin. The touch of his lips send butterflies to flutter in the woman's stomach. Any touch from Nuada makes her so giddy.
"I love you for who you are, Isabella. Whether royalty or commoner, I love you." Nuada assured her. Then he pulls Isabella into a deep, tender kiss.
The coupling of the elven prince and human is a well-kept secret. Only Nuada's twin sister, who holds a soul bond with her brother, knows about Isabella. In fact, Nuala is fond of Isabella and is happy for her brother.
When Nuada and Isabella first met, it was by accident.
It was the start of the war between the elves and humans. The border between the two realms were watched closely so that no one crossed. The lands were becoming thick with blood and bodies.
Isabella lives in a small cottage close to the border. She made a living of selling food and jewelry in the village markets. Unlike most humans, Isabella wasn't afraid of the fae people. In fact, she often helps pixies, trolls, and many other of the fae people.
About a year ago, Isabella took a stroll through the thick forest that was east of her home. She collected berries from bushes and material to use for her jewelry. Isabella kept to herself and made sure not to bother any creatures.
That is when she met Nuada.
Nuada is the general of the Bethmooran army and often does patrols along the border. If he ever comes across a human, he either kills them or makes sure they never come back. When he found Isabella collecting berries by a nearby pond, Nuada was transfixed by her beauty.
Isabella has long blonde hair that must be braided to keep it from touching the ground. Her eyes are bluer than the finest sapphires, skin as white as alabaster, and a smile that can dazzle the coldest of hearts.
Soon after Nuada spotted her, Isabella looks up from her pickings and spots Nuada. At first, she is surprised but soon smiles in greeting. It catches Nuada off guard as he is used to being feared by humans. And her smile almost made Nuada's heart stop beating.
Quickly, Nuada ignores his unfamiliar feelings and demands to know why Isabella is in elven territory. He expects her to grovel, to beg to spare her life. Instead, Isabella apologizes and explains that she is scavenging for food. She offers some berries as a peace offering but Nuada declines.
Nuada tells her to leave or she would face serious consequences.
Isabella doesn't complain and does as Nuada orders. Not before handing him a lily as a parting gift and an apology for intruding. Then she leaves.
After that day, it began a series of encounters between the two. Isabella would greet him, offer him food, and head off. She became an enigma to Nuada, intriguing him to pursue Isabella. Over time, the two became an odd pair of friends.
After a month, Nuada began to show affection for Isabella. He would shower Isabella in gifts such as jewels, the finest clothes, and trinkets he made. Isabella would only accept his trinkets as they were made by himself.
Isabella was surprised when Nuada asked permission to court her. She believed that he deserved better than her. The prince was next in line for the Bethmooran throne. A member of a royal family is better suited for Nuada.
Nuada refused to allow Isabella to believe this. He showers her in love and affection until Isabella didn't have to worry. It leads to the moment that they are in now. True love between star crossed lovers.
"How many times must I continue to assure you that I love you?" Nuada asked once they break away from their kiss.
"I'm sorry for being so insecure, Nuada. It's still hard to believe you possess such feelings for me." Isabella apologized.
Nuada pulls Isabella into a hug, pressing her head against his chest. Resting his chin on the top of her head, Nuada closes his eyes as he focuses on the woman in his arms. "I will love you to the end of time." he whispered softly.
His words warmed Isabella's heart as she listens to Nuada's heartbeat. It feels as if both their hearts were beating as one.
"I'll keep you to that." Isabella said with a soft laugh.
The two stay there in each other's arms, savoring this pleasant moment.
With the war between humans and elves growing hotter, it's been difficult for Nuada to have moments with Isabella. Commanding armies and working through strategy meetings took up most of his time. Only when it's night time or when Nuala fills in for him is when Nuada can escape. This morning is the first time in awhile since they've seen each other.
"Nuada," Isabella began suddenly.
"Yes, my love?" Nuada asked.
"I know this is a tough subject, but I want to know. Is there ever a possibility you'll end this war and make a truce?" Isabella asked hopefully. "I know your feelings for humans are conflicted but if you can love me, maybe you can put aside your hatred to bring a better world?"
Nuada tenses up. Isabella didn't have to look at his face to know what he is feeling.
"Unlike you, the rest of humanity has a hole in their heart that is full of greed. It can't be filled. The choices they make are killing my people." Nuada responded. "If we don't stop the humans from taking more of the elven land, killing my people; they will keep doing so."
"What if you find a peaceful solution to this? Make a truce with the humans? No one wants this bloodshed. If you can make a truce that both sides agree to, all of this can end." Isabella said.
Isabella understood that Nuada's hatred for humans runs deep in his bones. Her kind has killed and taken so much from him. It's shocking that he fell for Isabella.
"The humans will never uphold any truce."
"There are those who will. You just have to look."
Nuada glances down at his love and gives Isabella a warm smile. "I didn't have to look for you." he said.
The two smile and share another loving kiss. The kiss spreads warmth through their bodies.
"Will you consider it, at least? I don't want to live in a world where I might die the next day." Isabella said, fearfully. She takes Nuada's calloused hands and hold them tightly. "I wish to live in a world with you by my side." she said.
"Then be by my side." Nuada said suddenly.
"What?" Isabella asked, caught off guard.
"I want you to be by my side, forever and always." Nuada said, taking something out of his pocket and presenting it to Isabella.
A gasp escapes Isabella's lips when she discovers the item to be a ring. The band is made of pure silver. A sapphire diamond rests upon silver flower petals that curl around the diamond like a sleeping flower.
A truly beautiful sight that Isabella has never seen before.
"Isabella Rosemary, will you marry me?" Nuada asked with a hopeful smile on his face.
Isabella stares at him in shock but soon breaks out into a big smile. "Yes! Yes! Yes!" Isabella repeated happily. Nuada smiles as he slips the ring upon Isabella's ring finger.
"With this ring, I promise to make you the happiest woman. I will love you to the end of time." Nuada promised. He kisses the ring as a sign of promise. "And I promise to bring peace to humans and the fae people." he added.
Happy tears are streaming down Isabella's face, making her eyes shine bright. "I love you." Isabella whispered.
"I love you too." Nuada whispered back.
Their sweet and tender moment ends abruptly when Isabella lets out a gasp. A look of shock is on her face as blood slips through her lips.
"Isabella . . .?" Nuada asked in worry.
Isabella's chest blooms red. The thick stench of blood fills the air.
Isabella falls forward; Nuada catches her. He looks over her shoulder and finds an arrow embedded in her back. It wasn't an elven arrow, that he recognized. It was an arrow designed by humans.
"No. No. No. No." Nuada repeated.
Nuada cradles Isabella in his arms. Fear is filling his entire body as he tries to keep Isabella awake. "Stay awake, Isabella. Please stay awake." Nuada begged, tears streaming down his face.
Blood trickles down Isabella's mouth as she chokes on her blood. Tears stream down her face as she mirrors the same fear that is on Nuada's face. Death is imminent.
"M-My love . . . " Isabella gurgled.
Slowly, she reaches up and places a bloody hand upon Nuada's cheek. Her skin is already growing cold.
"I will . . . love you forever . . . and always." Isabella whispered as she chokes on her blood.
"Isabella, just hang on a little longer. I'll get you help." Nuada promised.
"It's too late." Isabella said.
Isabella gives Nuada a bloody smile. "I'll wait for you, Nuada. Whether it is a day or the end of time, I will see you again." Isabella said, closing her eyes. Then she dies in the elf's arms.
Humans didn't turn to stone like Nuada's people. Isabella became limp in his arms and lays there as if she is sleeping. It's harder for Nuada as he hopes to see her wake up.
Tears stream down Nuada's face as it feels as if his heart shatters into millions of pieces. A bellowing cry tears out of his lips as Nuada holds Isabella to his chest. He buries his face into her hair, begging Isabella to wake up.
"This isn't supposed to happen." Nuada cried. "I was going to make you my wife. I was going to make you immortal so we can be together forever." he cried. He clutches the body of his fiancé and refuses to let go.
"Damn it. I missed him."
"Just shoot him again!"
Nuada ceases his crying when he hears new voices. His pain grows cold as it hardens into anger. He wipes the tears from his face as rage consumes him.
Carefully, Nuada lays Isabella down.
She is rested on top of the flowers. Her eyes are closed and looks as if she is sleeping. Isabella looks so beautiful resting on the flowers. If only she was napping.
Slowly, Nuada stands up. In his hand, he is holding the flower crown that Isabella made. It's stained in blood and is crushed but still intact. He refuses to let go of it.
The elf prince turns around and finds a group of human men. They aren't ordinary hunters. These men are soldiers. They were probably patrolling the border when they saw Nuada.
One of them was armed with a bow and arrow. That is the man who killed Nuada's love.
"You killed her." Nuada snarled.
"I was aiming for you, not her. A mere casualty in war." replied the human with a shrug.
His words enraged Nuada greatly. This man killed one of his own and doesn't even care.
"This proves that humans are horrible beings. You killed the only human that I truly cared for." Nuada snarled. "You don't deserve to live. You don't even deserve a merciless death."
The soldiers prepare their weapons. Swords are drawn and bows are notched back. The men believe they have the advantage as they are in a group.
Nuada draws out his swords and stands ready.
Wordlessly, Nuada lunges forward and attacks them. His blades slice through them all. Their throats were sliced open, giving them a slow, painful death. Blood gushes out in a spray as the humans collapse to the ground. The fear of dying is in their eyes. Surely, they regret killing Isabella now.
Usually, Nuada grants humans one mercy: a swift death. But he left these men to die by drowning in their blood. It's what they deserve.
Once they die from their injuries, Nuada turns back toward Isabella's prone form. His anger turns to despair.
"You were too pure for this world, Isabella. They didn't deserve you." Nuada whispered as he falls to his knees and hovers over Isabella. He places the bloody flower crown on her head. Resting his hands on her cheeks, Nuada leans in and gives Isabella a kiss on the lips.
"I will love you forever and always."
Killing You - Prince Nuada x Reader
Warnings - none
Tumblr media
I sat on the edge of an old church looking down on city, people scurry down not even paying attention to the world around them. The gargoyles have long gone doing their daily tasks. I saw some fly toward the local foster homes, some even went to the troll market. I envy gargoyles they have their orders; they know their duties and they have no intention of quitting. They help humans and supernatural beings alike and I wish I could have that commitment without any doubts.
Rain falls from the sky lightly misting the city. The cool air ambushes me in as I shiver to its cool undertones. "Oh, god what do I do?" I whisper lowering my head, running a hand through my hair. "Do not waste a prayer on them." A strong voice whispered in my ear, I pushed my back into it and spinning around to kick it in the chest. I sit up ready to fight more till he brings the spear to my throat. "Nuada?" A smile etches on his beautiful face, lowering the spear.
He struts to the edge of the church looking down at the city as I was. "A putrid view, why would you pray over something that can't be fixed?" He inquired his yellow eyes boring into mine. "I wasn't praying for them." Hey, invites me to sit next to him so I do gingerly. "Tell me, are you realizing what roaches they are?" He lets his voice almost have a sliver of hope to it. "Yes, no, I mean it's just complicated right now."
He tucks a hair behind my ear, grazing my jaw lightly then tilting my chin to look at him. "They are vermin," he tilts my head to look out toward the city. "They killed Mother Earth, and now they are killing you." he turns me back to him leaning in close, his eyes never leaving mine. Enticing me as if a cobra to a mouse. "They will kill your mind, and your soul. You will be left with only fragments of yourself from their destruction. Why protect that?"
Tears pricked my eyes as everything I have done for humans come to mind. After the years, the people I have sacrificed I still have nothing to show for it. "Tell me Y/n, why are you a slave for them?"
"I don't know, because I have to be." I answered just above a whisper, closing my eyes. A single tear falls down my cheek, Nuada wipes it away gently cupping my cheeks. "They gave you nothing, and I could give you everything. I would move the mountains to see you smile, and they don't even know you exist. They stare at you as if you are a disgrace, my people would stare at you as if you were a jewel." He leans further in and kisses my lips lightly. We savored our lips on one each other's, as if we were two pieces of a whole broken. " I would stare at you as you were a jewel. I would make you a queen, yet you choose rats who belong in their own sewers. My love come with me. Come with me and throw away the people that are killing you."
He bored his soul into mine, leaning his head on mine. I could feel our souls intertwining, I could feel the bond I have been trying to dismiss, to brush aside. His right hand held the back of my neck, and his left is on my thigh circling it slowly. Memories of home flash through my mind, and all end in a horrible ending. The BPRD was my home for my enter life, and I lost everything and everyone. I sigh, knowing the answer I have to choose. "Yes, Nuada take me away from the pain." I plead leaning into his touch.
"Of course, my love."
🍃As part of a peace treaty with mortals, King Balor proposed an exchange of culture and knowledge between the two former warring races. Selected humans would live amongst the elves as attendants, handmaidens, stewards, and students, and elves would do the same with humans.
🍃A lottery is organized and monitored by the BPRD to stop parties with vested interests from meddling and upsetting the delicate balance of such a hard-won peace. Offices spread all over the world turn into lottery centers, and any elf or mortal wishing to add their name to the list is encouraged to do so.
🍃The numbers may not have been record-breaking, but enough elves and humans registered all the same. Your name was one of them. You did it on a dare, and with your friends, thinking nothing would ever come out of it.
🍃When the announcements start, you join the others in front of the TV, listening to names being called out, along with the names of families and individuals they would be paired with. Your name was not called on the first day. It was not called on the second or third day either. It was disappointing, to be sure, but you made peace with it. The days passed, with more and more names being announced. Then, after a fortnight had passed, you listened, dumbfounded, while your own name was announced to the world in crisp words. You were even more astounded when you found that you were being paired off with none other than the crown prince of Bethmoora himself.
🍃Your friends take you shopping as you would be moving into a series of abandoned railway tunnels he had converted into a luxurious palace. No one has seen the inside of it except for his father and sister, and the handful of attendants that served him.
🍃You’re nervous. Not just because you would be living with elven royalty, but also because Nuada is well known for hating humans.
🍃The prince was cold and aloof when you walked in through thick wooden doors full of strange symbols carved into them. “For protection,” Princess Nuala said, “against any evil that tries to make its way inside.”
🍃She was exceedingly warm where her twin is not, asking dozens of questions about your life, your friends, your family, everything. Nuala helped you settle into your new rooms and then showed you around the vast network of tunnels and chambers her brother called home. Everything was dimly lit, because that was how he liked it. There were sculptures and priceless works of art everywhere, hundreds upon hundreds of candles, thick, plush carpets, and the library was unlike anything you had ever seen.
“Do not touch anything.” He hissed, startling you. Nuada had walked up to you without making a sound. It was more than a little unnerving that he could do such a thing. “These treasures are priceless, and I will not see them sullied by mortal hands such as yours.”
Nuala apologized profusely. “Some of the sculptures you see here belonged to our mother,” she went on to explain after he disappeared down another corridor. “And my brother is quite attached to them.”
She did not say more on the matter, and she took you to her own rooms and hosted you to a light supper. At least, that was what she called it. An elaborate meal had been laid out in the dining room of her apartment. During dinner, Nuala informed she had to return to the BPRD, as her true home was there, with Abe. She would visit from time to time, but her place was elsewhere. Your heart sank, for it meant you would have to be alone with Nuada.
“Do not fret,” she urged. “My brother has a good heart; it is just that he guards it so fiercely. Give him time, y/n. He will come around. Mr. Wink will be here as well, so you will not want for company.”
“That’s comforting,” you tell yourself. Mr. Wink was large and imposing and spoke in a language you did not understand, and his loyalty would always belong to Nuada. Still, you made peace with Nuala’s leaving, and enjoyed the rest of your dinner.
🍃During the course of the subsequent days and weeks, Nuada would go out of his way to avoid you. He dined by himself, trained by himself, and kept to his own chambers when he was not needed elsewhere. If, by chance, you did run into him, he would respond with a curt grunt before walking away. If you came upon him training, he would order you to leave him in peace. Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, he would walk out of a room if you walked into it. It stung. What made it worse was knowing your stay had to last a full year before a change in placement could be requested. And that made you wretched, because the end of that year was still a long way off. Resentment took root, and you slowly began to loathe the prince for making living with him so hard.
🍃Mr. Wink, on the other hand, was surprisingly nicer, allowing you to join him while he used the mechanical toys that kept him entertained, watching TV with you, and even letting you read to him once in a while. He went so far as to ask through Nuala for you to help him learn your language.
It was a trial. Truly, it was a trial. Mr. Wink was a creature of fixed habits, and modern languages were strange to his ears. Once, he nearly flipped over a table in frustration. You had to keep to your sofa and hide your giggles while he ranted and raved and declared, through Nuala during her next visit, that human languages were languages born from the pits of hell.
“They may be languages from the pits of hell,” you tell him, “but you still need to learn. Come on. You can do this.”
The lessons continued. And Nuada’s avoidance of you continued as well.
🍃“Why do you always avoid me?” You finally mustered your courage and confronted him after breakfast. “I know you are not all that happy about it, but do you have to go out of your way to make me feel unwelcome?”
“Because you are mortal,” he rasped sharply. “That alone is enough. Now leave me. I have better things to do with my time.”
🍃And so it continued, until one dark November night, when an injured Mr. Wink brought him home, covered in wounds. A raid had gone wrong, you were told. Hellboy had taken it into his head to charge straight into a hive of tooth fairies, the largest that had been found in North America. Many in the team were injured, and Nuada was one of those who were worse off. Doctors from the Bureau came over and did the best they could. You had to see to his care after they left, as Nuala could not leave the BPRD. She too had suffered the same harm, even though she never left the facility.
For several days, Nuada slipped in and out of consciousness. You wanted to let him struggle out of spite, but seeing him helpless and weak convinced you to do otherwise. You changed his dressing, gave him bed baths to clean him up, and even changed his clothes. You avoided looking at the scars that marred an otherwise near-perfect body. It would be rude to do so, you tell yourself. He would not like being gawked at.
You brushed his hair and then read to him before making yourself comfortable on a nearby pillowed bench that served as your bed. Sometimes, you would find him looking at you with a strange expression in his eyes while you went about looking after him. You didn’t know what to make of it.
🍃“You must eat something, my prince,” you insisted one evening, holding a spoonful of soup to his mouth. “Just a spoonful. Please.”
Nuada’s appetite had deserted him, and you had to feed him his meals. He fussed and grumbled and muttered choice words in the language of his people, but he would yield to your entreaties in the end and make himself eat. It started with a spoonful, and then another, and another. Finally, when he was strong enough, he could eat properly.
🍃Then he started to talk. It’s about the little things at first: the meal before him, his sister’s wellbeing, and your lessons with Mr. Wink.
“He speaks very highly of you,” he confessed, much to your surprise. “He says you treat him with respect.”
“Do other elves treat him with respect?”
“No,” he replied. "Trolls are seen as, how do you mortals put it?" Nuada searched for the right word. "Oh yes. As the knuckledraggers of my world. Mr. Wink is a remnant of a more primitive age and, therefore, unworthy of true respect in the eyes of many. Besides my sister and myself, you are the only one who is openly kind to him."
"You are kind to him, and yet you treat me with scorn," you sighed.
The prince said nothing. He grew quiet and thoughtful. You take it as a sign to clear his tray and leave.
🍃Life with him became easier after that. While he rested, Nuada spoke of all the things he had seen and all the wondrous creatures he had met. You listened to his tales with rapt attention, for few mortals knew of such things. Finally, he opened up about his hatred for humans and why he allowed it to fester in his heart for so long.
“They killed my mother,” he spat. “When father left for war, mother traveled with him. She would stay at camp while he took off for the battlefield. He thought he had no cause for worry, for it was an unwritten rule, you see, for a military camp to be left untouched even during the height of fighting. There could be women and children present. Humans did not care for that. As soon as father’s warriors were out of sight, they attacked the camp. My mother… let us just say she did not survive.”
You did not know what to say, except for "I'm sorry.” Nuada smiled sadly and patted your hand.
“Tis not your fault,” he countered. “And it is I who should be apologizing." Nuada paused, and hesitated. "You have been nothing but considerate of my wishes the entire time, and you went out of your way to take care of me even after how I behaved in the beginning. I am ashamed of myself and must beg for your forgiveness.”
🍃Forgiveness would take a while, but Nuada did all that he could to make amends. He even invited you to accompany him to a great feast as his honored guest. That gave you pause, for while Nuada was lithe and graceful and everything a mighty warrior ought to be, you thought yourself to be the opposite of it all and told him so.
“Everyone would compare me to the other ladies,” you agonized after changing into yet another gown, one that was so soft it felt like you were clothed in nothing but air. “I cannot go looking like this.”
“No one will compare you to others,” he insisted. Nuada came into your rooms after wondering what was taking you so long. “They would not dare do so. Besides, there is nothing to give you cause for concern. Like your hair, for example. It looks beautiful the way you have arranged it.”
A flash of heat crept up your throat. No one had complimented you like this before. “It is?”
“Indeed.” Nuada came closer. “And that dress. How artfully it clings to your body. You have made a wise choice with your garments, y/n.”
“Oh.” Now your cheeks were aflame. “You’re not lying? You really like how I look?
“As my sister would tell you, lying is not something I excel at.” He grew bolder, and brushed his hand over your hip, your waist. “Soft,” he murmured. “Even softer than your dress.”
His touch was electrifying. And he was right. Lying was not something he was skilled at. You saw it with your own eyes—how he could not even pretend to be gracious in the beginning. You flushed and looked away, unsure of what to do or say. Nuada reached over and lifted your chin, making you meet his gaze.
“Did I go too far?” He murmured softly.
“No,” you mumbled. “I… I just didn’t expect such attention from someone like you. You are the crown prince. You’re dashing and skilled, and you're the greatest warrior among your people. And I… I am me.”
He went quiet for a while, as if he were thinking. “Then give me the chance to show you how you are so much more than what you believe yourself to be,” he proposed. “Can you do that, y/n? Give me such a chance?”
He was holding out his hand, his eyes bright and determined. But there was something else in those vivid golden-yellow eyes of his. Something more than determination. It tugged at you and drew you in.
He is trying, you think to yourself. He is really trying. And would it be awful to be at the receiving end of his affections?
You decided it would not be so awful after all and placed your hand in his.
Nuada would do anything and everything to protect you.
He's going to stay by your side every step of the way.
Anyone who dares to lay a hand on you will not live to see another day.
If, for some reason, he can not be there to protect you. He would possibly have one of the guards watch over you.
He isn't too sure or confident about that, so he also has his sister watch over you.
Whether they listen to her or not is their choice. However, heads will roll if anyone dared to not listen to you.
Nuada would be there for you when you give birth. No one, well, except for you, but no one and nothing is going to stop him from being with you during your labor.
Hi, hope you're having a good day/afternoon/evening. Do you write stuff about Hellboy? If yes, could you plesase do gn!verytall!reader x Nuada, where he takes a dislike on them, but somehow catches feelings, but he can't and will not accept that and reader don't know why they're locked in their dungeons and just wait for their death. Nuada has a goal: eliminate all humans. However, he doesn't know if he should include reader. If you're not into Hellboy, forget I asked anything. I like your prompts by the way.
Tumblr media
What’s up with me and liking these kinds of characters…I guess we’ll never know. 🦦
It probably wasn’t your smartest move in separating from the group to pursue a lead in finding prince Nuada on your own because whatever delusion you were riding on at the time that made you think that you stood a chance at besting him. A man who’s movements were as fast, swift and as fluid as a cold breeze.
It might as well be considered a death sentence to fight Nuada on your own. Something you should’ve taken into consideration for as soon after your brief one sided fight, which had Nuada dominating for most of it. But instead of delivering the killing blow with his lance, Nuada had decided to take you as a prisoner and had you flung into one of his dungeons until you friends come to retrieve you or for death to greet you first; So while you waited for either outcome, you began trying to find creative ways as to entertain yourself.
Meanwhile Nuada was finding himself to be at odds with himself over his resolve but mostly over you, a pathetic, greedy, hollow human being. No better then the others in his eyes and yet Nuada found his feelings of resentment, anger and anguish he held towards the human race, having dwindled the moment your eyes met his as he held his lance closely to your throat. Nuada knew that he could’ve finished you off like he had done to countless others but why were you the one to make him falter, to question his resolve, his purpose and cast an ember of warmth within his heart?
What made you so special in comparison to the others, whom he had so easily had snuffed the lives from? Why was it that throughout your fight did he not take full advantage of your openings, your weaknesses then and there? Nuada was given so many golden opportunities to rid himself of yet another filthy human, but something deep down inside was telling him to not bring you any more harm than he already had. Naturally Nuada assumed it was some magical trickery that you possessed in order to mess with his mind, however it was documented that you had no such gifted ability like Liz; You were just an ordinary human like any other who thought they couldn’t do no wrong, while simultaneously standing by and doing nothing to bring about change in the nature of your people.
This only proved to piss and confuse Nuada even more. You were rotting in his dungeons and yet you still manage to haunt his mind like a ghost. Hell he could visualise you so vividly and so real within his own head, making sure to get every feature of yours right, that he could almost reach out and actually touch you and be able to feel the warmth of your skin against his fingertips, feeling your muscles move beneath his touch, followed by your sharp inhale at the unsuspecting contact from him.
You distracted Nuada from what he felt was most important, form what he set out to do and he wasn’t one to leave any unfinished business, not when he was close to achieving his ultimate goal in eradicating all mankind, so much so that he could practically taste it on his tongue. However there was a slight problem with that, for if he were to eradicate all humans, that would naturally include you in that; The one human who had made a home within his unwilling heart and he didn’t know what to make of it because once again he was heavily conflicted, for his heart had grown to find some semblance of enjoyment within your company, much to his dismay.
‘How could I have allowed myself to become so weak!’ Nuada hissed to himself as his once relaxed hands became fists within a blink of an eye. ‘My head and heart have both betrayed me with their conjoined weakness towards that..human.’ He adds bitterly, adamant in even uttering the word human. It felt both vile and wrong to Nuada in naming those who’s inherent greed and corruption had put him in his current position; He felt as though he was doing a disservice to his own people for feeling any kind of way towards the enemy, and yet his heart couldn’t help but become more and more intrigued by you.
Had things played out a little differently just what would your relationship with him be? His heart would wonder aloud.
They’re a human, you fool! There will never be a relationship between them and us, for we’d only end with a knife within our backs. Nuada’s mind would reply, not wanting to ever show an ounce of weakness towards the enemy, not when he was so fucking close to finishing it.
It was within your human nature to be cruel, to lack empathy, kindness and compassion and yet Nuada felt an uncertainty in whether or not he wanted you dead with the rest of humanity. Would it be considered hypocrisy if he were to keep you alive while everyone else is dead? Maybe but he would deal with the consequences of his actions for a later date.
For now he had to confront you about how you’ve made him feel recently.
Courtship Confusion (Nuada x Reader)
Tumblr media
Prince Nuada Silverlance x Reader
TW: gets slightly steamy towards the end but not too explicit
Summary: Prince Nuada has been courting you for the last few months. You unfortunately, don't seem to realize that.
3.6k~ words
I had entirely way too much fun writing this. Please enjoy the emotional constipation and complete obliviousness to come. I promise it pays off in the end.
~~~
In all his long years as a warrior and a prince, Nuada could have never imagined that he’d be feeling this way.
His heart began to pound as you walked by him in the hall, not looking up from the case file you were flicking through. He held his breath until you’d turned a corner out of sight, ignoring the knowing gaze of Nuala beside him.
    He’d charged into battles without a sliver of fear, faced countless foes without even breaking a sweat. So why did the thought of you near him make his knees weak and his stomach churn?
    “(Y/n) is looking rather lovely today, isn’t she brother?” Nuala said as they continued towards their rooms.
    “All humans look the same to me,” Nuada grumbled, despite knowing that his twin would be able to sense the lie. It was rare to see you wear something outside of your usual all black combat wear (this was something he admired about you- like him, you were always prepared to fight and defend if need be). Today, you’d been wearing a long skirt and a nice blouse, a combination that accentuated your curves. As Manning’s assistant, not only were you often out in the field, but you also accompanied him to meetings with government higher-ups. Not that Nuada had tried to find out anything about you or your job after the two of you first met. Why would he, you’re just another human after all.
    Nuala hummed at his response. “Well, it’s good you feel that way then. Yesterday I overheard one of the guards say he was planning on asking her out on a date.”
    Nuada raised an eyebrow. “A guard is going to ask her to… stand on a fruit?”
    His sister tried to hide her amusement. “No, brother. A ‘date’ is when one human asks another human to join them in a fun activity when they wish to begin courting the other.”
    The elf prince stopped. “A guard is going to ask (Y/n) to court him?”
    “It seems like you care for this human after all, brother.” Nuala smirked, sensing the jealousy brewing in him. She’d completely made up that story about the guard, but that was something Nuada didn’t need to know right now.
    Without replying, he turned on his heel and began walking in the direction you’d been headed, leaving his sister to smile in victory.
~~~
    You groaned at your desk, stacks of paperwork surrounding you. The quarterly board meetings always left you with more to do than normal and you were really not looking forward to having to deal with it. You had just pulled the first stack towards you when there came a soft knock at your door.
    “Come in,” you called, expecting Manning to enter with more paperwork. To your great surprise, it was Nuada, the elven prince who’d been in the BPRD’s custody for just over six months. To pay for his crimes against humanity, he’d been sentenced to working with the very organization that had brought about his downfall.
    Even though you’d been an instrumental part of that mission, and had even been injured in the final battle, you’d gone out of your way to be friendly with Nuada when he first arrived. Your parents had died when you were little, and you’d been in and out of the foster care system before Professor Broom had adopted you and raised you alongside Red. You knew firsthand how cruel humans could be, and had sympathized with the prince’s mindset, even if you thought it extreme. You supposed if your race was dying out, you’d be a little pissed at the culprits, too.
    Nuada stood before you, as stoic as ever with his hands clasped behind his back. “I invite you to join me this evening in the training room for a sparring session. It will be a… fun activity.” He said formally.
    An odd choice of wording, but you chalked that up to him just not being quite used to the laidback way humans spoke. You looked around at your desk and the mountains of paperwork on it and back at him. I suppose I do need to work off some steam after dealing with those government high hats all day, you thought to yourself. Besides, it wasn’t often that you found yourself alone with him. You’d developed a bit of a crush on the tall elf in the time you’d spent trying to befriend him, and as much as you tried to tell yourself he’d never be interested in a human, you just couldn’t seem to push the feelings away.
    “I’d love to,” you smiled at him, and the corner of his lips pulled up in return. He bowed to you before making an exit, and that was how you found yourself sweating from exertion just a few hours later.
    The clanging of metal on metal echoed into the hall as you circled each other slowly. Each blow had been matched, parry for parry and lunge for lunge, neither of you managing to get in a hit on the other. You blew away a lock of hair hanging in your eyes, shifting your staff from one hand to the other.
    Nuada’s gold eyes never left your form as he searched for an opening in your stance that would allow him the upperhand, but you were just too quick. Even though he outmatched you in both size and strength, you were quick and agile on your feet, always dodging his attacks at the last second. He knew you were a good fighter after seeing you train before, but experiencing it firsthand was completely different. Your skill was one of the many things he lo- respected, he corrected himself, about you.
    He was brought out of his thoughts when you suddenly lunged at him, taking him by surprise. He fell backwards, losing his footing. You stumbled too, not expecting him to actually have gone down. You couldn’t stop yourself from falling with him, landing squarely on his chest with a thump.
    You groaned, winded from the impact, before stiffening as you realized the position you were in. You quickly scrambled up, heat sarong your cheeks as you blushed furiously. “I’m so sorry,” you rambled. “I didn’t hurt you, did I?”
    Nuada propped himself up on his elbow, turning his head to hide the gold dusting his cheeks. Hopefully if you saw it, you’d think it was just the flush from your training session. He grabbed the hand you offered him, trying to ignore the way it fit perfectly in his significantly larger one.
    “Not to worry, it takes much more than that to wound me.”
    You took a step back once he got to his feet. “I suppose this means I win, hm?” You couldn’t keep the smug smile off your face.
    The prince huffed, picking his weapon off the ground where it had fallen. “You’re not bad… for a human.”
    You rolled your eyes, knowing that it was as much of an admission as you were going to get. The two of you began to walk to the exit after gathering your belongings. “We should do this again sometime. It  was fun.”
    Nuada seemed to perk up at that, a small smile on his face. You blinked in surprise. It was the first time you’d ever seen him smile. You were even more surprised when he grabbed your hand, placing a delicate kiss on the back of it. “It would be my pleasure,” he said, bidding you goodnight and walking off to his room.
    You began to make your way to your room as well, lost in thought at the elf’s bold action. Surely that was just his royal upbringing shining through, he was only being polite. You attempted to quell your beating heart, but nothing could stop your mind from wandering to what it would feel like to have Nuada’s lips on yours instead of the back of your hand.
    Meanwhile, said prince was already busy planning your next “date.”
~~~
    You were having one of those days.
    Manning had dropped all the work that he didn’t want to do on your shoulders, as usual. The new recruits had been especially tiresome working with today, and eventually you’d given up trying to teach them anything new, just making them run laps around the track until their training time with you was up. And to top it all off, one of the guards had whistled after you when you’d walked by him, landing you a scolding in Manning’s office about “not breaking any more noses” because “the BPRD is low on guards right now” or something like that.
All in all, it had been a shit day, and you wanted nothing more than to take a long bath and not come out of your room for the rest of the evening.
You reached your door in a tired daze, not even realizing something had been sitting in front of it until you’d almost kicked it over. It was a bottle of wine with a silky red ribbon tied around it in a bow, beside it a box of fancy chocolates. The note attached simply said, A queen deserves to be pampered.
You examined the items in your hands with skepticism. Who could have left them for you? Manning would never leave such a gift, he barely noticed all the extra work you did for him. You briefly thought of your adopted brother, but dismissed it as quickly as it came. With such a romantic note, it couldn’t be from Red. Long white hair and golden eyes entered your mind, but you dismissed that even faster than you had Red. There was no denying the romantic tones to the gift, and there was no way that Nuada felt that way for you. He probably barely even considered the two of you friends.
It had to have been that guard, you thought with a scowl. Even after you punched him in the face, he just couldn’t take a hint, could he? You frowned deeply, carrying the wine and chocolate into your room and closing the door with a bang. You’d dispose of them in the morning, you didn’t want some creep’s attempt at wooing you.
Nuada watched from around the corner, frowning at your less-than-pleased reaction to his gifts. Had you not liked them? He thought that all human women liked sweets, but judging by your disgusted reaction, you obviously didn’t. He straightened up and continued down the hall, pace faltering slightly when he passed by your door.
He meant what he’d written in that note, and he longed to be able to provide you comfort after a long day. Resolve settled his stomach as he forced himself on his way. He hadn’t earned that privilege, not yet at least. It was obvious to him now, he needed to get you a much better courting present. One that would completely sweep you off your feet, and ensure that you would not hesitate to say yes when he asked you to be his mate.
~~~
    You’d been seeing a lot more of a certain elf prince recently, not that you were complaining.
    He always seemed to be in the library whenever you were in there. Often, you would bond over books, swapping recommendations and opinions on mutual reads. One time, you had even sat next to each other on the couch, with him reading an excerpt of his favorite childhood book of legends to you in his native tongue. You’d sat back and relaxed, letting the sound of his soothing baritone wash over you. Even if you couldn’t understand what he was saying, it was a calm moment in your hectic workday that you treasured.
    You’d also taken to sparring together every other evening. Right now, your tally was even. You’d beat him, he’d beat you the next time, and so on. It was becoming a fun little game between the two of you, and slowly you began to see Nuada’s true personality shine through his cold and off-putting exterior.
    Of course, these interactions only fueled the huge crush you had on the prince. Maybe you were even falling in love with him, you mused one night after one of your training sessions. It would be just your luck, to fall in love with someone who would never love you back. Even though Nuada was friendly to you, he did little to hide his taste for the others around you. Whenever a man drew near, he sneered at them until they walked quickly away. It was a reminder to you that he could never see you as anything more than a greedy, dirty human. But still, after another impromptu meeting with him in the library, you told yourself it was okay to pretend.
    You’d also been receiving more gifts from the guard- little crystals, fancy pens for your desk, a scarf in your favorite color, each with a sweet note attached. These gleam, but not as much as you. For all the thoughts and ideas that come from your beautiful mind. And the most daring of all, Would you wear this, and only this, for me? You kept them all in a box as evidence so you could convince Manning that he was harassing you. Most disturbing were the sketches of you, done in amazing detail. They were drawn with such obvious care you sometimes doubted that it was actually the guard that drew them, but then reminded yourself that there was no one else it possibly could be. And yet, you couldn’t bring yourself to throw them away.
~~~
    Nuada paced his room, hands behind his back and brow scrunched deep in thought. His courtship with you was going very well. The two of you had grown much closer over the last few months, and it was time to finally ask you to be his mate.
    He looked over to his small bedside table where the courting gift he had made for you rested. It had taken him countless hours to create, and he could only hope that it would be good enough for you.
    His sister entered quietly, and he growled at the intrusion. “I’m busy, sister. Go pester that overgrown fish you seem to like so much.”
    Nuala tsked teasingly. “I expect you to not be so callous with my future sister-in-law, brother. Even if she is ‘just a human.’”
    “(Y/n) isn’t just a human, at least not anymore. She is kind, and caring, and a skilled warrior, and-”
    Nuada cut himself off at the sight of his sister’s triumphant grin. “Love has changed you, brother. It pleases me greatly to see you so happy.”
    The sincerity of her words stopped him from feeling too annoyed at her intrusion. “I am going to ask her to be my mate,” he confessed. He looked at her imploringly, gold eyes filled with rare vulnerability. “Do you think she will say yes?”
    “I have no doubt, brother.”
~~~
    You’d had enough.
    The trinkets had been one thing, the sketches another, but this time he had gone too far. The guard had the nerve to break into your locked office and leave a note demanding you to meet him. ‘Let us make our love official. Meet me on the roof tonight at 8 pm.’
    Your stomach curdled at the delusional note. How could that guard possibly think you loved him? You were deeply in love with Nua-
    You stopped yourself from completing the thought, instead focusing on your anger. Oh, you would meet him, alright. You would meet him and put an end to the foolish obsession he had with you.
    You waited impatiently for the evening to come, delighting in all the ways you were going to give the guard a piece of your mind. If he thought a broken nose was bad, just wait till he saw what was coming.
    You stormed up the stairs to the roof, kicking open the door with a bang only to stop at the sight before you.
    Lights were strung up criss-crossed over a comfy blanket with a picnic basket sitting beside it. Soft music played from who-knows-where, and rose petals were scattered all around.
    “Thank you for not keeping me waiting, my love. I have been so anxious for this night to come.”
    You blink in shock as Nuada steps out from the shadows. His white hair is tied back, and he is clad in regal-looking robes even fancier than the ones you’re used to seeing him in. He walks swiftly towards you, taking both your hands in his and gazing earnestly down at you.
    “Wh-where is the guard?” You manage to stutter out, struggling to understand just exactly what is going on. You must be completely losing your mind, because you could’ve sworn Nuada has just called you “my love.”
    Confusion crosses his features before his eyes narrow in recognition and anger. “Has one been bothering you? I’d hoped our courtship would make it obvious enough that you were unavailable.”
    Now you were certain that you were hearing things. There was no way Nuada had just said the words “our” and “courtship” together.
    Nuada moved closer to you until your chests are touching. He seemed to tower over you as he raised a hand to cradle your cheek. “You are so beautiful,” he breathed, and before you could comprehend what he’s doing, his lips melded with your own. You couldn’t move as he groaned against you, his tongue coming to trace your bottom lip.
He pulled away suddenly, seeming to try and gather his composure. “I promised myself I wouldn’t get too carried away before giving you this.” He reached into a pocket of his robe and pulled out an intricate ring, gold wires wrapped elegantly around a large glittering diamond.
“This was my mother’s,” he explained, sliding it on the ring finger of your left hand. You remained still, quite sure that you’d died somehow and had gone to heaven. He got down on one knee, looking up at you with complete reverence. “(Y/n) (L/n), will you do me the infinite honor of being my mate?”
You choked at the word “mate,” finally shaking yourself out of your daze. You took a step back, pulling your hand away from his. “This is cruel, even for you Nuada.” You said coldly. “I don’t know who told you friends are supposed to play pranks on each other, but this isn’t how you do it.”
He had the decency to look distraught, at least. “Prank? This is no prank.” You scoffed, already moving towards the door back inside. You knew you’d done a poor job of hiding your feelings for him, but he didn’t need to mock you for them in such a way. You’re a human, and he hates humans. He could’ve just told you that instead of going through all this trouble to embarrass you.
“Wait, please!” The despair in his voice made you pause, but you still didn’t turn around to face him. You didn’t want him to see the tears that were beginning to fall.
“I assure you, I would never jest about something so serious. It is tradition for courtship to end with the presentation of a token of love and the question to become mates!”
You whirled around, anger being replaced with confusion. “What courtship? We haven’t been dating!”
Nuada looked crestfallen, an expression you never thought you’d see on him. “But my gifts, our dates? Did you not consider them part of our courtship?”
You shook your head in confusion. “I don’t understand, Nuada. You never asked me out on a date.” Your eyes widened in realization. “Wait, it’s you that’s been leaving me all those things outside my door?”
    He nodded, getting slowly to his feet. “Yes, and our dates were in the library and the training room. I thought all they needed to be were fun activities, but I see now that I was mistaken.”
    He looked absolutely devastated, and your heart clenched at the sight. You never could have believed that he would return your feelings, and here you were learning that he thought you two were engaged in a months long courtship!
    You walked back up to him and reached up to make him meet your gaze. “For the record, I would love to be courted by you,” you said softly, tucking back a wayward piece of hair that had fallen. Your fingertips brushed the point of his ear and he shivered. “I love you, Nuada. I have for a very long time.”
    No words were spoken as your lips met again, this time allowing yourself to truly get lost in the other. You opened your mouth eagerly when Nuada’s tongue swiped at your bottom lip, and you couldn’t help the moan that escaped you when he immediately dove in. You ended up pressed against the stairwell door, your legs wrapped around his waist so that you could feel every inch of his hard length against you.
    You broke apart for air, both of you panting with swollen lips. Nuada groaned deeply when you teasingly rolled your hips against his, fingers clutching your thighs so hard you wouldn’t be surprised if they left a bruise.
    “Do not tempt me so,” he growled, voice low in your ear. “It is obvious to me that I have not courted you properly, and for that I must make amends before I can make you my mate.”
    “Then let the courtship begin,” you said, giving him a wicked smile before pulling him back down into another searing kiss.
