Sigyn.
The one that burns the britghtes in the darkest moments. And the one that all to manny forgott.
Her name means "freind of victory" and is the wife of "the burden of Sigyn's arms" Loki.
While Loki had a love afair with Angraboda, Sigyn is his true wife. And no matter what he did she is true and loyal to him. Shes listed as one of the Asir and one of the disir by snorri, unlike Loki whos a Jötunn.
For me shes a goddess of strenght in tuff times, a goddess of strengt and light in the dark. This is also why for me she is included during Disablot, when the nights are long and the the world still cold, to find strength in the one that stod for endless nights awaiting light and reelife.
I find her also as a goddess of victory, to do her name. I find her surprisingly innocent compared to her husband, with a good nature, but very choosy of who she helps.

Some heathen aesthetics that arent ⚔️🩸
(not that those are bad! I love those too, I've just seen a severe lack of anything about the brighter sides of magic and the natural world from a heathen perspective. It's strange to me. Heathenry is so deeply about protection, interconnectedness, and rebirth- there deserves to be more art and aesthetics embodying these positive aspects!)

Angraboda
Tumblr media
I have always been drawn to the Jotuns of the Norse pantheon. I think their dark, primordial nature appeals to my trauma. There is something awe inspiring and commanding in these forces.
I worked with Angraboda a couple years before she would let me paint her. She didn’t want to reveal herself to me. I listened to a Slipknot album while painting her.
Mother of Wolves and Monsters.
Consort of Loki.
Cheiftess of the Ironwood.
When she comes near she brings fear. Fear that if I want to grow into my most authentic self then I must face the secrets of these dark spaces.

December 20th starts the 12 nights of Yule.
Did I want to make new illustrations for this year, yes. But I’ve been dealing with some health stuff that adding that to my plate is too much.
So this year im just doing doodles to capture feelings.
The other day was so warm it felt like the sun was singing.

A sketch I made some time ago, based on several 'outside meditations'.
This is looslely based on a personal interpretation of the old Germanic ritual of 'Utiseta' or 'sitting out'. We know from old Norse sources that practitioners of magic would sometimes go outside at night to cover themselfves and sit on the land, possibly on or near a grave, to receive knowledge from the spirits of the land and/or the ancestors (which may be one and the same in this practice).
It's interesting to see how modern witches and heathens who do magic, practice utiseat or a version of it. if someone has any knowledge or experience they'd like to share with me, don't hesitate to PM!
