Losing Focus { Lando Norris x reader }

I wanted to thank the anon bestie bean for giving the inspiration of writing this as I completely went in an over way to write this, so I write this one shot and will post the prompt shortly after. Free one shot written in one go I guess

Imagine yourself as a young rookie, it is your first year in F1, in the McLaren team, with Lando Norris as your teammate. You were young and debuted this season with Yuki, one of your best mates from last year. Being the same age as him was helping you a lot, having someone to share stuff with was a plus for you. Lando wasn’t a bad teammate either and was willing to help you despite having the focus on his third year in the sport and practically carrying the team now that he was the first driver of the team.

At first the working relationship was only friendly and supportive but the more and more time you’ve spent together your two personalities hit up. You quickly become friends, moving to Woking to be closer to the team. You had a lot to prove as a female driver, the pressure on you was enormous but Lando was always here to support you.

He even helped you when you made the move to Woking, having you at his place for a couple weeks, just the time for you to have your stuff arriving at your new place. That’s where the ambiguity starts to appear. You were to start wearing his hoodie, and take habits in his house, habits with him. You had your little routine together and you were getting closer and closer. In the back of your mind, you saw yourself falling for him more and more.

You were noticing the longing gaze dedicated to you on the other side of the garage, the touch lasting longer as well, the voice changing as soon as you entered the room where he was. You knew there was something going on between the two of you but you couldn’t risk your career for it, you were forbidden yourself of doing it. No matter how the attraction and desire to be together was growing inside of you, you couldn’t allow yourself to dream of a perfect relationship where both your dream job and your dream boyfriend. It wasn’t existing in this world, in the real world where you were the inferior sex in the sport.

Imagine all the blood on paper, it would be the end of career before he would have time to flame and turn into a firework.

But that one day, everything changed. That day where you were staying at the same hotel, the same stair as him and the bedroom next to him. He waited for you that morning for you to only take a car, arriving together at the track. It <wasn’t unusual to see driver teammates arriving together, but seeing the teammate exchanging a certain look, one of them having the arm over the other’s shoulder. That was unusual, but you couldn’t bark out from him, your body didn’t want to and somehow that day your brain was irrational, your heart was speaking out and you couldn’t stay away from him.

You spend all your free time together, but when the driver parade came you wanted to reconnect with Yuki. It has been a while, you wanted to catch up, talking about the season and how you were feeling about it. You just wanted to talk to your friend.

On the other side of the parade truck however, someone wasn’t having such pleasure chatting with friends, he was barely listening to what Max and Carlos were telling him, only focussing on one person … you. He couldn’t look away, even when the journalist asked him a couple of questions he was evasive, looking around to find you in the small crowd, barely paying attention to the question asked.

The race was one of the hardest for you, you had a collision with Yuki on track, it was more his fault, you were mad at the time but racing was kind of cruel at the time. You tried to keep the car on track even when it was almost undrivable, your friend didn’t have this chance and had to retire. You were pushed down to the last place of the queue after only 3 laps, having to fight you way to the field when you start p11 which was not a bad start for you, with many possibilities to be up there with Lando and have some point in the back for the team in your bags, but now.

That’s where your talent enters the room, even with a damage car you manage to pass a couple of cars before having to pit and to do it all over again, but you did it, you were almost in the point, you could do it, you wanted more than p11, you wanted to be at least p9 and you had the time left to do so.

Your engineer encouraging you in your e ars, you could hear people behind sharing for you as well, and when you passed the next car, the mechanics were ecstatic as your engineer tried to keep his composure. You move on quickly on the next car, putting a target on his back, focusing only on him, catching him lap by lap until you are capable of seeing detail of his rear wing. You used the DRS to finally pass him. It was in the last 2 laps and you ended up the race p9! It was one of your best results of the season despite all the trouble you had on track. Of course you wanted more and we're already seeing everything you need to work on for next time, but you felt a little proud as you got out of the car and saluted the mechanics coming to cool down the car and take it back to the garage.

A couple of drivers patted your back, congratulating you on the amazing drive you had today. You had been voted driver of the day and before disappearing in the garage to weigh you and join the interviewed panels you didn’t forget to wave and send kisses to the fans that came that day.

As you joined your trainer and your pr assistant outside you felt a hand on your shoulder, Yuki. He quickly apologized to you and then congratulated you. He felt terrible and you reassured him that it was just fair racing and that you might have some wrong in that as well, it wouldn’t change your relationship with the track at all.

You did all the interview and finally found your driving room, thinking you were finally alone to breath, but no one was knocking on your door. At first you thought it would be your engineer, Andreas or even an assistant saying you need to join a meeting and debrief somehow but to your surprise it was Lando.

He barely waited for your answer to enter the room and close the door behind him, locking it before putting himself in front of you.

“ See that’s what happens when you are too friendly with someone, see what happened on track, “your friend almost crashing into you ? It almost cost us point there, I am sure you could have been higher than p9”

You didn’t understand what this monologue was about, but that wasn’t fair of him to come after you like that, and it was coming out of nowhere.

“Then I shouldn’t be friends with you, because you will crash into me” You were standing up to face him, not accepting from him to be told what to do with your friendship.

“Oh trust me there is so much more things I want to do to you, than to crash into you” His eyes got bigger as his lips let escape a thought that was only reserved for himself.

“What is this supposed to mean Lando” You goddamn knew what this was about but you wanted him to affirm it, the adrenaline from the race was still very present inside your body and you wanted to use it to finally be brave enough and face the truth of your relationship.

“You know damn well what it means, do you know how worried I was when I saw you in my mirror out of the track turn 5, carbon fiber flying around ?”

You broke the challenging stand and relaxed a bit, took a step back away from him to look at him and frame this moment in your mind. He was worried for you, despite having his own race he was more worried about you.

“Do you know how much I might have ask how you were doing to Will,not really caring about my race anymore, and how relieved to know you were okay and going back into the field again, passing every drivers one by one, how proud I was to see you in my mirror once again before the end the race?”

Was he using the adrenaline to admit something to himself and to you as well ? Lando is never expressive of his feelings, nevertheless during race weekend when he is fully focused on being the best.

“I am in so much trouble if I start worrying about you more than I am on track. It can be so dangerous, yet I can’t help it, if you are not there with me and doing good it’s affecting me as much as my own race can do.”

His hands were on your cheeks, taking a long look at your eyes before closing the gap between the two of you, connecting your lips together and bringing you closer to him. His hands soon left your cheeks to find your lower back, lifting you off your feet, his lips were carnal and this kiss was the closure of month and month of tension, the conclusion of all these little moments that only you two were aware of. The outcome of the fire building inside of you. You had hoped to see a firework for your career but you never thought of living one as strong as you had dreamed at night, just by kissing the man you were in love with.

His forehead finds yours, staying in the bubble, breathing in each other.

“Never do that to me again, you heard me!”

“I won’t”

Packing for a holiday has never been my favourite thing to do. So, having to pack my own stuff plus anything Lizzie might need was a real challenge. And I totally over-packed as Lizzie didn't wear half the things in her suitcase, but at least we were prepared 🤣 Our favorite travel gadget was the @inglesinababy high chair. It's great and it fit all the tables we used from a plastic picnic one to a big wooden one with a lip. Do you like your ice cream in a cone or a cup? I'm not a regular one on Instagram anymore, being a mum takes up most of my time and I just don't have the time (and sometimes will) to take photos, so I've that much more admiration for those mums who still post more or less regularly, such as @abilourich and @alicespake how did you ladies manage 😊👏🏻👏🏻 I'd love to share my Trooper's every day antics, but I don't want to baby spam all the time either 🙈 Anyway, we had a lovely Mother's Day and it made me appreciate even more how lucky we are to have a healthy and happy baby. Being a mum, a parent is such a sensitive topic and people still battle judgement on a daily basis. Judgement about having babies, about not having them, about having to go through fertility treatment, about abortion, about adoption, you name it, no one is safe from it. Today’s prompt for @indie_roller insta challenge is “Vision”, and my vision for the future is at somewhat of a crossroads. My business plan so far has very much been for @designbywingers to grow organically, have fun with what I make and build it as a sanctuary where my weird can exist wonderfully, but in the long run that is not a business plan, and that is not an clear vision for the future: That can best be described as a plodding along. And I don’t plod. Is Wingers something I see as a full time future endeavour, or is it a forever side hustle where I let my weird out? Is this where I will funnel all my creative energy, or is it the weird creative outlet fuelling another job? Am I Wingers, or is Wingers just a part of me? I’ve had a lot of time to think and feel recently, and a lot of thoughts and feelings about the future has come up.
