Which books would the Hallowoods characters read?
Happy HFTH season 4 day! I'm so excited for the new episodes, and I want to celebrate by recommending some books I think some of the main characters would love.
Diggory Graves - Unwieldy Creatures
Tumblr media
I have a feeling that Diggory might be interested in a nonbinary Frankenstein retelling...
Percy Reed - The Spirit Bares Its Teeth
Tumblr media
A transmasc protagonist, ghosts, a t4t love story - Percy would relate to this book so much.
Nikignik - This Is How You Lose the Time War
Tumblr media
Even aside from the whole Bigolas Dickolas thing, I think Nikignik would really love this book. It's an epic, complicated, super emotional love story, written in a way that almost feels like poetry - I have a feeling that Nikignik would like that.
Lady Ethel Mallory - Lady Susan
Tumblr media
It's short, it's funny, it's a classic, it's from the perspective of the villain and said villain uses the title "lady"? Lady Ethel would love this book.
Riot Maidstone - Gideon the Ninth
Tumblr media
It's about a butch lesbian with a sword. That alone would probably convince Riot to read it, but I think she would love the story, too.
Olivier Song - Infinity Alchemist
Tumblr media
This book is about an alchemist who is rejected by the magic school he tried so hard to get into, and one of the love interests is genderfluid - Olivier might relate to it a little too much.
Clara Martin - The Grimoire of Grave Fates
Tumblr media
It's a murder mystery set at a magic school that moves around the world, and it's told from 18 (!) different perspectives. I think Clara would love reading about all these different types of magic and trying to solve the mystery.
Polly - Good Omens
Tumblr media
Polly reminds me so much of Crowley sometimes - to quote this post, they're both "demons sent on a celestial audit of earth and catching more feelings than they signed up for" - so Polly would probably either love or hate Good Omens, no in-between.
Yaretzi - The Salt Grows Heavy
Tumblr media
I can't really explain why I think Yaretzi would like this book, but she would. Something about the main character being a murderous mermaid, probably.
Mort - All Systems Red
Tumblr media
Mort would definitely want to be friends with Murderbot.
Hector Mendoza and Jonah Duckworth - Silver in the Wood
Tumblr media
This is my go-to "Read this if you like Our Flag Means Death" book because the main characters remind me a lot of Stede and Ed, but the book also reminds me so much of Hector and Jonah, especially with the magical sentient forest setting.
Zelda Duckworth - The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher
Tumblr media
This book is about a 83-year-old Chosen One who has to save the world armed with nothing but gumption and knitting needles - I think Zelda would enjoy that.
Mx. Morrell - What Moves the Dead
Tumblr media
I think a fungal horror book with a nonbinary protagonist would be perfect for Mx. Morrell.
Danielle O'Hara - Pet
Tumblr media
Pet is about a trans girl who has to reconsider everything she's been taught and save her friend with the help of a terrifying creature - everyone should read this book, but I think Danielle would especially like it.
Book titles:
Diggory Graves: Unwieldy Creatures by Addie Tsai
Percy Reed: The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White
Nikignik: This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Lady Ethel Mallory: Lady Susan by Jane Austen
Riot Maidstone: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
Olivier Song: Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender
Clara Martin: The Grimoire of Grave Fates, edited by Hanna Alkaf and Margaret Owen
Polly: Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
Yaretzi: The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw
Mort: All Systems Red by Martha Wells
Hector Mendoza and Jonah Duckworth: Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh
Zelda Duckworth: The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher by E.M. Anderson
Mx. Morrell: What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
Danielle O'Hara: Pet by Akwaeke Emezi

Even tweets started to give away that something was up. But to Dan and Phil’s surprise the entire phandom appeared completely oblivious to these clues for nearly an entire year, up until the middle of 2016 when the two men decided it was time they tell their fan base that not only was “phan” real but they were both in fact engaged and getting married by the end of 2016.

Summary: Dan laments over his past with Phil
skin on skin (ao3) - sadlybunny
Summary: It was subtle at first. Dan would grab Phil’s hands and hold them when they started to wander. He’d catch Phil’s lips in his when he tried to press them to Dan’s neck. Phil received the message eventually, and stopped trying to progress things altogether. It was odd. Dan was usually the one in their relationship to initiate sex in the first place. And it was especially odd for them to go so long without sex, or at least something quick. But two weeks was weird.
or... Dan gets a tattoo and is scared to show Phil.
Starstruck (ao3) - Yiffandquiff (paradisobound)
Summary: Phil attends all of Dan Howell’s concerts. In fact, he makes it a rule to even record every one he goes to. You could say he was in love with Dan Howell and in fact, that wouldn’t be a lie because he’s actually Dan’s fiancé. Too bad Dan’s fans see him as the creepy guy at Dan’s concerts.
What We’ve Been Hiding-Secret Project and More - too-queer-for-you
Summary: A description of a video in which Dan and Phil finally answer long asked questions and reveal the truth.
Your Crowning Glory (ao3) - pasteldanhowells, rainbowchristy
Summary: Dan is 18 years old when the news is suddenly sprung upon him that he is next line to be the next king of Genovia, but things don’t go as smoothly as he thought, between having a suddenly busy schedule, a new lifestyle, an arranged marriage that Dan has no control over, and worst of all, Philip Lester trying to steal his crown.

Good morning! Part EIGHT of the series of sections of my end-of-college novel which I'll post here. Several more posts of this to go. You can read the others at the tag.
Idk if it's clear from this excerpt, but the characters are themselves Cajun. Their movie is making fun of the way tv exoticises people. This premise was kind of a rich choice coming from me, the woman who knows only as much about Cajuns as Youtube told me.
It was one of the movies. Evening light on the water of the Teche. Lawrence Walker on the soundtrack. “The Sun Sets on the Bayou!” shouted the couch, delighted.
“Is this the one with the can opener?” asked Paul, but Jean-Daniel gathered the sound of his voice in a wave of his hand. “Shut up, shut up,” said Jean-Daniel, leaning into the screen. “I want to hear.”
This was a Jean-Daniel picture. The credits appeared, white and tailed, a 70s typeface like an educational film. Kim’s name was spelled Cassette. The Sun Sets on the Bayou: Cajuns In Their Own Words.
The camera zoomed out to the side of the Teche. Jean-Daniel, in a suit like a pillowcase and a bright red tie, strolling, high grass opening around his knees. He was fourteen and already becoming rectangular. He spoke to the camera. “Voodoo,” said Jean-Daniel. “Alligators. A history as rich as a jambalaya and a culture that sparkles like the diamond on a gambler’s pinkie.” He spoke in an appalling Northern accent.
“It sounds like you ate a jaw harp,” said Zeline on the floor.
“I was doing Rick Steves,” Jean-Daniel explained.
“Louisiana is America’s ghost story, and it’s one we love to tell. But there are voices here; voices that you can only hear when you are quiet, when you truly listen. Voices that want to tell their own story. Voices who have never had a chance … to speak for themselves.”
An explosion of color and lunatic noise: the movie had cut to figures in brilliant courir costumes, fringes diving and sailing as the figures slammed their feet down and clapped their hands. They were out front of the Douin house. It was everybody but Jean-Daniel - who was filming - plus somebody whose name Kim had forgotten.
“If it hadn’t been for Cotton Eye Joe
I’d been married a long time ago!
Where did you come from, where did you go?
Where did you come from, Cotton Eye Joe?”
They were shouting off-time. Isaac was doing the Electric Slide.
Jean-Daniel, smiling over a coffee at Bord’s. “That’s right. The fun-lovin’, swamp-swimmin’ Cajuns. The French that France forgot. Join me in this land of po’ boys and pirates, zombies and Zataran’s. At the dawn of the twenty-first century, let’s celebrate the last twinkling of the Cajuns …” Jean toasted the camera. “As the sun sets on the bayou.”
In the Douin living room they ate toaster strudels and drank wine. On screen, Jean interviewed Cajuns about their fading culture.
“You made those courir costumes,” said Kim on the couch to Zeline, who had crawled up and taken Benjamin’s spot. “I forgot about that.”
“It took me about a billion fucking years,” she said. “I got a box of old jump ropes from that physical fitness day, Hop into Heart Health or whatever.” She was happy to remember it.
Isaac and Paul and Kim, dressed head to toe in courir outfits, sat on plastic chairs in somebody’s driveway pretending to drink from empty Miller cans. “The best beer is the French beer,” said Kim. “We have a saying that says this.”
“How does the saying go?” asked Jean-Daniel, behind the camera.
“It go very far and long, sir. It go all around the town. You hear every man to say it. It go buzz buzz buzz then it come home again.”
“Just like the bee who come home,” said Isaac. “That’s a story we tell. The bee who spent all his papa’s silver then come home and say, oh papa bee, I regret my sins.”
“I love this story in my boyhood,” said Kim. “It make me to fear sin and love virtue. My mama, she tell me these stories, her.”
“French beer is all gone now,” said Paul.
“It is the English who take it! It is the English who steal all that is ours!”
“No,” said Paul, dragging a cooler into shot by putting his arm into it and pulling. “I mean we drank it all.”
“Ha ha!” said Isaac. “It is just like the sinful bee.”
“We are doomed to sin,” said Paul. “Like bees. You must tell these stories or you forget.”
A cut and drastic change of noise as Jean-Daniel walked Zeline’s block, hands behind his back. “You must tell these stories,” said Jean-Daniel. “Or you forget. A lesson tenderly learned at every Cajun mother’s knee. And who will tell these tales when the old storytellers are gone? The answer just might come … from cyberspace.”
Zeline for a talking-head interview: behind her was a school computer. Zeline was wearing a suit jacket and a pair of Mickey Mouse ears.
“It can be a challenge to get Cajuns to make any kind of records,” said Zeline. “They are afraid of pencils and pens and are almost completely illiterate. But I’ve found that if you show them a bright screen,” Zeline gestured over her shoulder. “You can distract them long enough to get a couple of answers. After that it’s a simple matter of hacking the mainframe and downloading a zip drive. We’ll be in and out, fifteen minutes. And nobody will ever be able to trace it to us.”
“You got so mad at me about that, Jonnie,” said Zeline on Isaac’s couch. “You wanted me to stay on subject.”
“It didn’t make any sense,” said Jean-Daniel, something like offense in his voice, small, faraway, a silhouette in the distance. A memory of being a director in 2004.
“The whole thing was fucking fruit loops!” hollered Zeline. “That was the point!”
“Yes, but it was crazy in a way that made sense. You were just free-associating.”
Onscreen Jean-Daniel passed before a card table laden with food. It was in the Douin’s living room, late in the day, and Kim’s body got a brief echoey bump of then-now, then-now time-travel. “From beg-knee doughnuts to crawfish etoofee,” said Jean-Daniel to camera, “Cajuns have given America some of her most colorful dishes.” Jean paused beside Paul, who was cranking a can opener through a pizza. Paul and Jean smiled hugely at one another.
The camera traveled away from Paul’s back, over the dimming chairs and toward the window. Briefly the evening light through the window cut the camera’s focus and there was a second of white. Then Ray’s silhouette, too black against the window; a slicing orange sky, and the woods, also black-green. Ray was looking out. “Sun’s settin’ on the bayou,” said Ray, softly. “Mm-hm. Mm-hm.”
The vague blurred form of Paul brought Ray a slice of pizza on a napkin. Ray took it. “Some folks call it a can opener,” said Ray. “I call it the Beefaroni hammer. Mm-hmm.” Zeline’s laugh screamed for an instant before the scene cut, too close to Ray’s mm-hmm to edit out.
“I don’t remember what I meant by that,” said Ray.
Paul and Zeline remembered. Zeline was hopping to adjust herself and see Ray down the couch, and it made Kim bounce a little.
“You went through like fifteen lines,” she said.
Paul said, “It started out ‘Some folks call it a can opener. I call it a pizza cutter,’ or something, but every take you said something else. You said ‘I call it a Danger DVD’ at one point.”
“I forgot that’s where that came from,” said Isaac. “I still say that in my mind sometimes. Whenever I see a circular blade.”
“You were trying to make everybody corpse,” said Paul.
Outside the grid of video tapes on the rug there was a little cairn of rejects. Kim noticed his own name. He investigated, holding Zeline briefly in place so she would not ricochet off the couch when his weight left. Kim slid the video from its pile. “What’s this?” he asked. Isaac’s high-slant Enlightenment cursive said KIM PONT TECHE SHOUTOUT on the case’s spine. Kim held the video toward Isaac, who touched it to bring it closer to his face. “That’s history,” Isaac said. “Important.”
KIM PONT TECHE SHOUTOUT was a crummy cheaply-filmed interview from Kim’s early career. Kim did not recognize it. A couch jammed in a corner of a fluorescent room. White cinderblock wall. Kim sat alone, maybe nineteen years old, skinny and stiff. His hands were linked on his knees. Twenty, Kim decided: twenty was the year he wore his hair slicked back like a silent film star. There were people talking off-screen and Kim was looking at them and not at the camera. Kim’s face was tense.
This was when Kim was only Kim Kasset. This was before Benjamin and Perry. Young Kim looked lonely. “No, it’s just I object to the terminology,” he was saying. His voice was odd. He was doing something like a California accent.
“You object to the [unintelligible] that I [unintelligible]” said a man’s voice offscreen, obscured by the bad sound of the pokey hard-walled room and by the other people murmuring.
“I do, I object to the terminology,” Kim said.
“- only a descriptor,” said the man’s voice.
“I’m not white,” Kim said. “I’m not white. Because that’s [unintelligible] to me, that’s why. It’s my, it’s my, it’s my family. Where I’m from, it’s a point of pride.” Kim was getting angry. His hands were open on his knees.
“[Unintelligible] proud? Is that why you changed your name?” asked the man, amused.
Some of Kim’s words were lost. “[Unintelligible] motherfucker, I did not change my last name. I changed the spelling. It’s a fucking design choice. I’m - ”
The man interjected: “So if you’re not white, what are you? Are you a black man?”
“Get fucked, man,” said Kim. He was moving sharply from the torso, talking to somebody else offscreen. “He’s saying it like it’s a joke,” said Kim. Kim turned back to the man. “Being black, it’s funny to you? Big joke? In your fucking racist [unintelligible] it’s funny?”
“The idea that you’re black is funny to me, yes,” said the man. A lot of other voices went fumbling around, covering the man and Kim.
A woman’s voice spoke offscreen: “I’m interested, Kim. What’s your heritage, what’s your, where’s your family from?”
Kim looked at her. She must have been beside or behind the camera. “We’re from Louisiana, okay?” said Kim. “Louisiana. Pont Teche. It’s a proud, it’s, to be [unintelligible] I’m French and I’m Spanish and I’m Native American.”
There was a bang of laughter from offscreen.
“I’m fucking,” said Kim wildly. “It’s not a fucking joke! I’m Coushatta! I’m proud Coushatta! My family are - come here, man - ”
Kim rose but did not straighten. From his bent-pin v he reached offscreen and then tipping back pulled a man with him, by the front of his shirt. The man lost balance over Kim and the couch and caught himself with a hand on the wall just as Kim swung a fist hard at his face, from a tight cramped arm. The grapple was violent and miniature, because there was so little space. Kim was almost lying backward on the couch and he was shaking the man terrifically. Other bodies came to separate them. From a worried clutch of people Kim flung himself and pushed the man by the face into the wall and punched him again with a fist.
Now Kim remembered the interview.
“I didn’t know this video existed,” said Kim. He was a little proud and a little embarrassed. He had forgotten, rather, that he had once been inarticulate and fragile. And he was feeling a little tender toward his own soft, anxious face, his underfed torso. Like this was somebody else’s boy. Somebody’s brother.
“We transferred it to VHS,” said Isaac. “It’s a local favorite.”
“Why? God, because I said ‘Pont Teche’ once?”
“They were talking about changing the town motto,” said Ray. “Pont Teche: It’s a proud, it’s, to be.”
“I’ve talked about Pont Teche again,” said Kim. “In better interviews where I didn’t have villain hair. How come this is the favorite?”
“I think people responded to the violence,” said Isaac with an air of kingly pride, chauvinistic pride in Kim.
“I thought it was great,” said Zeline. But she had some criticism: “I’d have throttled him.”
“I don’t know that I’d have made such a big deal about it now,” said Kim modestly. “Everybody treats me like I’m white and I look white.”
“It was nice, man,” said Paul. Paul looked at Kim with understanding. “It was nice.” Twenty-year-old Kim had felt, in a disorganized and unguided way, defensive, of his mother, his dead father, his old friends. Paul recognized this. Paul had always been sensitive in that way: able to perceive, ready to perceive.

Goth : Round 0 (Part 1)
At the Goth mansion, everyone arrives the next evening for the wedding. Cassandra doesn’t know many people, so it’s a small backyard wedding with only Mortimer and Alexander, Darren Dreamer, and Mary-Sue and Daniel Pleasant in attendance.
Tumblr media
Alexander wishes his sister luck on her big day.
Tumblr media
Mary-Sue and Daniel flirted autonomously and regained their crush on each other. The magic of weddings!
Tumblr media
Don actually goes through with the wedding, despite his misgivings about the situation. I think everyone besides Cassandra is surprised. Mortimer didn’t think Don had it in him.
Tumblr media
Wedding fever is really affecting Daniel and Mary-Sue. These two couldn’t keep their hands off each other during the party. Maybe there’s hope for their dying marriage after all.
Tumblr media
Cassandra is over the moon and heads off to cut the cake, but Don lingers at the altar, his mind plagued by regret. Mortimer and Alexander dance sweetly together.
Tumblr media
Darren is the only person other than Don who is not enjoying the wedding. He’s still madly in love with Cassandra, and if someone was going to take her from him, Don was the last person he would have wanted it to be. He hates everything about Don, from his smug face, to his womanizing ways, to his rumored involvement in Bella Goth’s disappearance. Cassandra notices Darren acting weird and tries to approach him, but he makes an excuse and wanders off.
Tumblr media
Cassandra feeds Don a piece of wedding cake. He tries to fake a smile. Maybe this is for the best, and he’ll be happy married to Cassandra. He does love her, but I think both his and Cassandra’s belief in his ability to change is unfounded. Only time will tell if he’ll remain faithful or if this marriage was doomed to fail from the start.
Tumblr media
The party is so un-lively that even the Goth Ghosts have come out to celebrate. Don is starting to realize he may have bit off more than he can chew.

The idea of Danielle celebrating her first Halloween with the Fentons/ever is pretty adorable/fluffy. The idea of Elle getting to experience and participate in things with family that doesn't want to kill her is great.
Danny, Jazz, and Elle carving pumpkins.
Danny, Sam, and Tucker taking Elle out to trick-or-treat.
Elle getting set free in a Halloween store and being told to choose whatever she wants. Indecision happens.
Danny and Elle being little ghosties. Just your normal day in Amity Park where ghost siblings just sorta chill. (And maybe play little pranks on neighbors. Like making the candy bowl float)
Set the ghost siblings loose to float through a haunted house in ghost form.
Jack and Maddie attempt bonding by doing a ghost movie marathon with all 3 of their kids.
Elle creating happy memories with people who actually care about her!

What Was Bound, What Was Loosed Chapter 3
Written for Dannymay Day 6: Core.
.
Ellie took to spending her days in the palace library.
Danny thought he was trapped. Believed he was trapped. So did everyone else. But Ellie didn’t believe it. All cages had keys. Danny had opened hers. It was only right that she return the favor.
(Of course, she wasn’t happy about being stuck herself. There were still things she wanted to see on Earth. She missed the stars.)
The books were old and new. Some were in English, others were in languages she couldn’t even begin to recognize. Most of them had nothing to do with what she was looking for. Like in any library, they were on a wide variety of subjects, all spread out.
Still, she searched. The stack of tomes that had to do with ghostly kingship and the laws of the Infinite Realms grew progressively larger. Occasionally, one of the shades would attempt to put the books back, but they were easily dissuaded, having no will of their own.
She was making progress. Not a lot, but some. Enough to keep her going.
.
Vlad knew when to quit.
Oh, maybe it didn’t seem like it, he was easily as obsessive as any ghost, but he did. Sometimes, a plan just wasn’t feasible, and he had to cut his losses.
Cutting his losses, in this case, meant getting incredibly drunk on ghost wine. Fright Knight didn’t approve, but who cared what he thought? Fright Knight was part of the reason he was in this situation in the first place!
If he had just been warned this would happen, he’d have been able to make arrangements, to find some way to keep his portal open, or to stay in the human world, where his life was.
But no. They were all trapped here. No way out.
When hundreds of ghosts all said the same thing, Vlad was inclined to believe them. Danielle, as motivated as she was, was simply experiencing denial. Or, perhaps, bargaining. He had to admit he was never exactly clear on the stages of grief.
Then, there was Daniel, who seemed to be firmly trapped in the ‘depression’ stage, more of a ghost than Vlad had ever seen him as. He lingered in corners, at the edge of Vlad’s vision, quiet, sad, always flanked by Fright Knight and that other ghost, the one with the clocks.
There were parts of him, his Obsession reasserting itself, that yearned to reach out to Danny, but… He didn’t even know how to begin.
.
Danny felt like a pale, wandering shadow of himself.
Most of the time, he slept, exhausted by the demands the Zone made on him and the continuing changes he was undergoing. The expanding circle of vitality, of rejuvenation, of reconstruction and growth, that so many ghosts were celebrating had to draw energy from somewhere, after all, and even though Danny was absorbing just as much as he was expending, that process made him drowsy in and of itself.
Pain, too, plagued him. His missing eye ached, and sometimes it seemed as if the crown was burrowing into his skull, not merely resting on it. His hand hurt from all his attempts to take off the ring.
He could hardly care for himself in even the most basic of ways. Clockwork often had to remind him, or help him, and he was always so excruciatingly gentle.
Then Vlad and Ellie came.
Their arrival was a relief. Ellie was a friend, was family, and hadn’t been complicit in his betrayal and binding. Vlad had been an enemy, and not even an honest one at that, but essentially everything they’d been at odds over was moot, but he was familiar.
Despite the relief, despite his desire to connect with people who hadn’t hurt him, at least not as badly as everyone else, he hung back. He didn’t know what to do, didn’t know how to bridge the gap.
So, he lurked and lingered. When Ellie went to the library, when Vlad moped and bothered the shades that ordered the kitchen, he followed, he watched.
Clockwork and Fright Knight, of course, followed and watched him in turn.
At least, this is what happened when he was awake and aware enough to do anything. Danny was under the impression that being awake and independently mobile at all this soon after being… coronated… was unusual, perhaps even unnerving. Normally, he’d be curious, excited about new abilities and what they might mean. Maybe he’d even throw around a quip or two about how awesome he was but…
It wasn’t the time, and he didn’t have the willpower to reach for even that dubious coping mechanism.
In the too-numerous times when Danny was both awake and not well enough to follow Ellie and Vlad around, he liked to sit in the garden. It was almost peaceful there, by the fountain, although the plants had a distressing tendency to reflect his every change in mood.
Today was one of those days. He was too dizzy and lightheaded to drift after Vlad or Ellie, even if neither of them moved very much, but he didn’t want to stay in the bedroom, or, worse, the throne room. His core seemed to pulse, sluggish and painful in his chest. Or perhaps that was his heart. He couldn’t really tell with this mixed-up form. It could even be both.
Another slow wave of transformation swept out from him, making his extremities tingle. He watched, tiredly, as it briefly interacted with the walls of the palace and the scattered shades before moving on. The shades… another aspect of all this that Danny wasn’t comfortable with, but couldn’t bring himself to learn more about. They were sustained through his power, but what were they? Extensions of his will? Aspects of his personality? Constructs generated by the palace? By the Ghost Zone itself? He didn’t know.
As much as he should try to learn, he couldn’t help but think of them as yet another imposition, another burden he was being forced to bear.
This wasn’t a healthy mindset. Jazz would tell him as much. Jazz wasn’t here.
“Danny!”
He looked up, his one eye already searching for Ellie. Fright Knight stepped forward, as if to protect him, but Danny snarled at him, annoyed. He wasn’t going to let him get in between him and one of the few people he could currently stand. Clockwork stayed back, passive, but he looked… worried. Uneasy. As if anticipating a disaster.
“Danny!” exclaimed Ellie again, bursting from a bush, a thick book raised above her head. “I found it!”
“Found what?” asked Danny, leaning forward slightly as Ellie joined him sitting on the edge of the fountain.
“A way out!” She opened the book and started flipping through it, obviously looking for a specific entry.
Both Clockwork and Fright Knight looked extremely tense, now. They probably didn’t want him to find this, didn’t want him to leave. Would they try to stop him?
He hunched his shoulders. He might not be well, but he could fight and make it hurt.
“Here!” said Ellie, triumphantly. “Look at this.” She tapped a picture of a bright, spherical object.
“The core of the Infinite Realms?” asked Danny, reading the legend of the picture.
“Uh huh. Apparently, it’s what determines what the Ghost Zone is like as a whole and controls the rules and laws and stuff. Like, even when it comes to what ghosts act like, and what they can physically do, or how the Ghost Zone’s physics behave. But the important part is that you can go talk to it and petition it and stuff, and sometimes it’ll listen. I bet we can get it to listen to you and make it so that the Ghost Zone doesn’t need a king anymore.”
Danny felt a flutter of hope. The book was old from what he could see, and, ignoring Ellie’s paraphrasing, the language was fantastical and couched in metaphor, but still if there was a possibility…
Near their feet, small, bright flowers began to bloom, each no larger than the head of a pin.
“Daniel,” said Clockwork, in a careful, soft tone. It wasn’t pity, not quite, but it was the verbal equivalent of being handled with kid gloves. “It doesn’t work like that.”
“Then what is it like?” asked Danny, hunching his shoulders and leaning protectively over Ellie.
“What do you think the King of the Infinite Realms is?” asked Clockwork.
Danny shrugged. Clockwork gave him a small, pained smile.
“The King of Ghosts and the core of the Ghost Zone,” said Clockwork, “they’re the same.”
Danny shook his head, unwilling to let this scrap of hope slip through his fingers so easily.
“Please, Daniel,” said Clockwork. “Why do you think it was so vital that you be crowned? The Realms cannot exist without their core.”
It made sense. A horrible, horrible sense.
“That doesn’t make sense,” said Ellie. “The core’s supposed to be the basis the whole Zone is built on. That can’t just be one person.”
“The library has some books on the subject,” said Clockwork. “But you can see how Daniel is changing things.”
Danny felt his hope collapse and doubled over, hands on his head, face almost touching his legs. A scream bubbled up in his throat, but he swallowed it. All those people, everywhere, his responsibility, his… Not just the people, everything. Everywhere. Not just his responsibility, but relying on him, modeled on him, dependent on him, centered on him.
He wasn’t just the Ghost Zone’s ruler, nominal or not, he was its heart.
“Danny?” asked Ellie. He looked up.
There were blast lines in the ground, radiating away from him. The fountain was cracked and leaking water. Fright Knight had, evidently, grabbed Ellie and leaped away, into the air.
Clockwork hadn’t left, still leaning towards Danny. There was a jagged, dripping slice across his shoulder. Danny gasped, reaching towards him.
“It’s alright,” said Clockwork. “It’s alright.”
“I can’t be,” said Danny. “I can’t be. I’m—I can’t be part of the Ghost Zone. Not—Not like that. That’s not—I can’t be what the Ghost Zone is built on, it doesn’t make sense, I…”
“It’s alright,” repeated Clockwork. “Would you like to go inside? You may feel better if you eat something.”
“Don’t want to bother Vlad,” mumbled Danny. Didn’t want another person to see him crumbling like this.
“We can send something up to your room,” said Clockwork.
He did feel tired. The fountain was repairing itself behind and underneath him. He groaned as the ground beneath him pulled together as well.
“I don’t want to be the core of the Ghost Zone,” he said, knowing that what he wanted was not and never had been a consideration. “I don’t want to be king. I don’t want to be in charge of anything.” He grabbed the edges of Clockwork’s robe, ignoring the moisture despite the pang of guilt it brought him. “I want to go home. And I…” His words failed as he reached for Clockwork’s injury. “I don’t want to do this.”
“This is nothing, Daniel,” putting a gloved hand over the wound. “I have had far worse.”
It started to rain. Great, heavy droplets of water tainted with just enough ectoplasm to glow.
It was one way to hide tears, he supposed.

Boobiegate begins! Celebtm has published its expose about Briana and her alleged sugar daddy, Micheal Straus. He claims that the reason he gave her thousands of dollars was because she was broke and he was raised by a single mom, so he felt bad for her. The article goes through the ways in which Briana’s OWN FAMILY called her “unstable” (pot, kettle much?) and then! AND THEN!!! Goes through babygate! They outline all of it - that people think Louis is gay and with Harry, that she’s photoshopped pregnancy pictures, that they are photoshopping pictures, that Louis never sees Freddie, ALL OF IT. In front of each claim, they quote a fan, so it cleverly seems like they themselves are not making the assertion, but as anyone who has reported anything in this fandom would know, everyone has an opinion. The ones you AMPLIFY are the ones that you legitimize, and Celebtm even went as far as linking tumblr masterposts on all things babygate if anyone wanted to dig into it. Well, better y’all than us! In the end, however, they do take a strong stand, saying:  “Whatever the truth is about Freddie’s parentage, it’s clear that Jungwirth has secrets. While the vast majority of babygate proof is speculation and fan rumor, it does paint a picture of a woman hiding something. Whether or not Tomlinson is in on the secret or being cheated remains to be seen.”
Louis himself has said nothing, nor do I expect him to. Michael Malarkey, a former co-star of Danielle’s, posted a tweet with a picture of Louis, saying “WE LOVE YOU LOUIS” after seeing it trend on twitter and then plugged his own music. I assume that this random shout out is related to the stir that Celebtm’s article caused, but, honestly, maybe he just really loves Louis. I can certainly relate.
Liam is doing his best to steal my title of *ghost* writer, as he makes a spooky halloween account: let’s all welcome Cornelius the Ghost to this year’s Halloween shenanigans! It is unclear what Cornelius’ role in the show will be, or if this is an eroda style RPF lead up to Halloween. He is a cloaked figure who is haunting Liam for information about the Halloween LP show via Instagram. Silly ghost, you should be haunting this blog instead! We have you covered (cloaked? You get it)! MUAs on Twitter have begun to send in their Halloween looks into Liam’s competition and they are VERY spooky. I’m not a fan of horror but campy, spooky Halloween fun? Sign me TF UP!
Golden is LIVE...or is it??? Golden is impacting radio stations and climbing some radio charts, despite the Official Date of Impact being the 26th, I guess they just couldn't wait. I have not heard it on my local radio, but I’m more of a Spotify kinda gal, anyways. I think stations have started to jump the gun and are playing it, in spite of any official dates. Eroda has stirred, at any rate, and added a description to their Lighthouse attraction. They are describing it as, “Eroda’s famous lighthouse is the perfect place to catch a beautiful golden sunset”. Very nice, very romantic! The picture that immediately comes to mind is the last shot of the WMI director's cut where the cute couple walks into the sunset. Sigh, I love that music video.
Harry is VERY in LA; he’s meeting fans, taking pictures, hanging out with his costar Florence Pugh, and wearing his rings again! He didn’t have surgical gloves over them this time, so we can see that they aren’t ALL back, but his plain bands (including the peace ring!) are firmly on his fingers. One fan who met him asked him to take a picture of her and her friend, and she bought dessert for him. In return, he covered hers - or, sorry, an anonymous patron paid for her dessert - it’s always nice to see that his mother raised him well! We also got a little throwback to last Christmas (I gaaaveee you my heaaarrrttt) with Harry sitting on Santa’s Lap in an LA party, presumably around the time of Fine Line’s release. I guess those North Pole Catfishers from last month were onto something!
Niall and Capitol Records are celebrating three years of Flicker, so Happy Birthday, it should be walking on its own and forming complete sentences by now, and at least a meter tall, if Freddie is anything to go by! Niall is celebrating by spending the day in a recording studio with british singer songwriter Anne Marie, who’s dream collab was Niall! Go girl, make it happen! He was playing an acoustic guitar, and hopefully making more of that new music he’s been teasing in interviews over the last week.

I'll meet you at the divide
To break the spell
It was too good to be true, like a fantasy with a tragic twist, a hope for a sunny day clouded by storms. Daniel carried a heavy heart yet he felt empty. His heart beat in his chest, pumping life into his veins but he loomed around in silence. He was a ghost haunted by the walls of his own home. The house was draped in an eerie quiet, so quiet Daniel could hear the clock ticking in his bedroom from downstairs. He set aside his freshly washed plate in the drying rack and dumped his emptied beer bottle in the bin. When Lennox went to school, lunches were painfully quiet. Daniel often found himself in front of the TV, eating his lunch with the background noise of any program playing on the screen.
With a sigh he rested his hands against the counter, leaning forward. His eyes drifted to the living room, where a line of photo frames stood on the mantle above the fireplace. She was everywhere. Daniel didn’t know whether that was a blessing or a curse. The clock ticked rhythmically, Daniel couldn't count the hours. His fingers traced the frames on the mantle. She was always smiling, even when it hurt the most. He never understood how. How could she hold all the rays of the sun while her star collapsed? He was the moon without a sun sharing its light, a dark unlit sky with lonely stars.
Stars. Lennox. Daniel smiled shakily, his vision blurring as he stood in front of the last photo on the fireplace. Even as the faces and colours blended together with his tears, he could still remember the image clearly. Lennox’s first hockey match. Lennox was squashed between Daniel and Marigold, wearing his hockey gear. They all held matching smiles on their faces. She was everywhere and maybe that’s what made it so hard to let go, suffocating when her presence was embedded in the air around him.
Daniel grabbed himself a beer and sat down on the couch, picking up a familiar belonging: a scrapbook Marigold had crafted for them, celebrating their early dating anniversaries. The book’s cover was brightly decorated with stars and stickers. He sat down, tracing his fingers over the scribbled text in her handwriting. He flipped through the pages, taking his time to trace the stuck-on tickets and read the small love letters Marigold had delicately weaved in her writing.
A point where two worlds collide
Yeah, we'll rebel
His mind felt dizzy with the slight tinge of alcohol. All the memories printed into the scrapbook seemed like distant conversations and hazy images. He turned the page over, his eyes falling to a scribbled date in the middle and countless doodles and stickers in the background. His heart dropped as his mind took him back to one of the most special nights in his life. His mind and heart pulled him down like an anchor into the sea, dragging him deeper until there wasn’t enough light left to see.
Daniel wiped the stream of tears off his face, closing the book. He sunk down farther into the couch, holding his head as he cried. He exhaled shakily, feeling a light feather touch trailed up his shoulder. Daniel tensed as he heard a whisper. The voice was smooth like a calming wind, familiar like the arms of a lover.
“Why so many tears, my sweet?”
He opened his eyes and from the blurry mist in his eyes he saw the form of the woman who carried his heart.
“Sunshine,” he breathed. Daniel threw his arms around her in an instant. He cried, clinging on to her tighter as sobs shook his body.
“It’s okay, I’ve got you,” Marigold held him close, rubbing soothing circles over his back. She kissed his head as he cried. She tried to pull back slightly but Daniel only held her closer.
“How- you-you’re here-I don’t know what to do, Marigold,” he whimpered. “I can’t do this without you.”
“Why would you say that, hmm?” she pulled back and cupped his cheeks. Her thumbs wiped the tears from his cheeks. “You’re doing so well, my sweet. I am so proud of you.”
Daniel shook his head from side to side. He gripped her shirt and rested his head against her chest. His lips trembled, “I just want you back.”
Marigold sighed quietly, “You know that’s not possible.”
“Please don’t go. ”
And we run
And we run
And we run
Until we break through
“I won’t leave just yet,” she stroked his hair gently.
Daniel sniffled, and looked up. He reached his hand up, brushing his hand along her jaw and then cupping her cheek, “You are very real.”
Marigold laughed softly, “Yes, I am here.”
“Do you-” Daniel held her hand. “Does it hurt anymore?”
Marigold smiled, “Not anymore, no.”
Daniel smiled shakily, feeling the tears build up again at the answer he wished he had heard many months ago. He sat up and his hands reached up to caress her cheek. She had this golden glow that reminded Daniel of when she was carrying Lennox. “You’re so beautiful.”
Marigold smiled.
Daniel pressed his forehead against hers, “I miss you.”
“I miss you too, my sweet.”
He leaned closer, pressing his lips on hers. Her soft lips and skin disappeared under his touch, fading into the air. Daniel fell forward on the couch, his hands gripping the fabric. He snapped his head around in search of her, letting out a strangled cry as he was met with the walls of his living room.
If I get high enough
Will I see you again?
Daniel was falling into a routine and he was growing to hate it. With no energy by noon, he often landed on a couch, a drink in his hand and the multiple CD’s of home videos by his side. He never drank too much before Lennox came home. Lennox was the only light which filled the gaping hole in his chest but the sharp taste of the beer numbed his mind. It calmed the storm of emotions he carried inside, just for a few moments and for him that was enough. Daniel entered the living room with a beer in his hand, heading to the CD’s by the television. The text on the CD covers were fading where he held them, some more than others, exposing the amount of times he watched them.
I feel my loss every night
Not long to wait
He slumped back down on the couch with a beer bottle in his hand as the video loaded. A crackle echoed over the speaker before a soft voice spoke.
And if I do this thing right
I dream of our escape
“Lennox, say hi,” Marigold whispered behind the camera.
She zoomed in on a baby Lennox, waddling around the flowers in the garden in his small yellow boots. He wore one of Marigold’s old sweaters, far too small for her but slightly too large for the little boy. The sleeves and hem of the sweater were rolled up, hugging his body. Spud turned to the camera and grinned, his two little teeth sticking out. He waved his arm at the camera and turned back to the flowers decorating their garden.
He pointed at the bunch of hydrangeas and tugged at his sweater, “Blue. Like mine.”
Marigold gasped, “Yes, well done my shining star!”
Spud giggled and the camera turned just as Daniel’s car rolled into the driveway.
“Daddy’s here!‘ Marigold captured Daniel stepping out of the truck with a smile. Lennox squealed, running to Daniel with his hands up. “Dada!”
Daniel scooped him up into his arms, bouncing him gently, “Hi Spud, I missed you!”
Marigold shuffled closer to Daniel, the camera lens covered as they shared a quick kiss, “Hi my sweet.”
“Hey sunshine.”
The camera flipped, fitting all three of them into the frame. Lennox grabbed the camera in his hands and pressed the lens close to his face.
“Oh, careful Spud.”
The curious child attempted to hold the camera out like his mother, pointing at the flowers, “Blue!” The garden twisted into a spiral as the camera tumbled out of his hands and the video cut off.
Daniel sniffled quietly and took a gulp of his beer. The next video began to roll. He heard the familiar sound of her footsteps down the stairs. The camera trailed the floor until it lifted up outside the house, pointing at Daniel.
“Look how handsome my baby daddy is.”
Daniel glanced up at the camera with a bashful smile. Marigold pulled him up by his arm so he could be seen better and she set her hand against his chest, giving him a pat.
“I’m going to have to keep close eyes on you at Sunday brunch. All the ladies are gonna want a piece of this.”
“Oh my gosh.” Daniel chuckled shyly.
“And my other handsome man!” Marigold added, shuffling around the open door to get a good shot of the baby in the car seat. “Gonna be fighting the ladies off you too, my beautiful boy.”
Lennox blinked up at her but her same smile could be seen forming behind his pacifier that bumped excitedly against his little nose. Marigold turned the camera around as she leaned in with Daniel, capturing both of them together and Daniel just smiled at her, pressing a kiss to her cheek.
She looked up at him lovingly, “Happy first Father’s Day, my sweet.”
“Thank you.” Daniel smiled, meeting her halfway for a kiss. “And thank you for making me a father.”
They shared a few more kisses and ‘I love you’s until Lennox let out a small cry.
“Oh my.” Marigold said, addressing the camera again as Daniel left the frame to care for Lennox, “Well, when Lennox says it’s time to go, it’s time to go! We have church to get to and a bunch to show off at.”
When she was a few steps away, the camera caught her admiring her husband over her shoulder as he finished buckling in the baby.
She looked back to the camera and spoke gently with her wide grin spread all over her soft face, “Lennox Blake, if you’re watching this some time in the future when you’re grown up and annoyed by your parents – just know that you have the best daddy in the whole stinking world. I picked him out myself for you so that’s how you know he’s good.”
The camera clicked softly and a another video played.
The screen zoomed in on Daniel and Lennox across the grass. Lennox was tucked up on his shoulder and Daniel was pointing out little flowers and the buds on the trees as they walked. He finally looked over and caught Marigold filming, a shy smile taking over his face and he rested his head against his son’s tiny body.
And we run
And we run
Daniel was a mess, his stray tears turning into quiet sobs. He turned off the TV, the bright screen of colours and memories turning into a reflection of his pain. He chugged down the rest of his second beer and dragged himself off the couch. The air felt stuffy, like he couldn’t breathe properly. He swayed as he stumbled to the garden door, nearly falling down the steps. A choked sob left his lips and he covered his mouth. He stormed past the bushes of overgrown, wilting flowers.
And we run
Until we break through
Daniel stumbled to the back of the garden, grabbing the support of the garden swing. The tears fell down his face , smudging the darkening colours of the flowers around him. He slid down to the grass, leaning his head back. Daniel dug his fists into the ground, tugging out strands of grass with a yell. The pain in his chest burned into tears and he closed his eyes, drowning himself in his loss. His head felt heavy with what remained of the alcohol in the system and his tears. A soft breeze rustled gently.
If I get high enough
Will I see you again?
A soft hand brushed his cheeks, wiping away the tears.
“My sweet.”
Daniel shook his head, “No, go away.”
“Daniel, my sweet. It’s okay, I’m here.”
He wiped his eyes and took a shaky breath as he saw her again. “Mari.”
“Come on, let’s get you up.” Marigold reached out her hands to pull him up to his feet. She dusted off his shoulders and smiled. “There. Much better. Come on.”
Daniel sniffled, his eyes focused on Marigold in some state of confusion and surprise. Her arm was wrapped around Daniel’s as she guided him inside the house. He lifted his finger to touch her cheek. Marigold giggled softly, “What are you doing?”
“Where are we going?” his voice cracked.
“I haven’t seen Apollo and Venus in so long,” Marigold smiled, looking up at Daniel. “Let’s go for a ride.”
Daniel moved at a slow pace, trotting beside Marigold on her horse. Marigold looked around at the green fields ahead of them, a glow in her eyes. He watched how her hair moved in the wind, her blonde curls flowing. The sun reflected on her face, and Daniel smiled. Her face was full of colour, no longer pale, no longer lifeless. For once she seemed at ease and Daniel had forgotten what that felt like.
Marigold slowed down to a stop and for the first time Daniel turned his head away from her. He gasped softly, instantly recognizing their surroundings, their spot. He followed her movements as she climbed off her horse and sat down at the spot where he would normally park the truck. Marigold shifted closer to Daniel, if it was even possible, and placed her head on his shoulder.
Daniel held her hand, brushing his thumb over her knuckles. Marigold sighed, “No matter how many times we come here, the view still takes my breath away. It’s beautiful.”
Daniel hummed in agreement but his focus seemed to lie on staying as close to her as possible.
“You haven’t been singing much lately, my sweet,” she remarked.
“I know,” Daniel mumbled. His voice trembled and he took a moment to breathe. “It’s hard.”
Marigold smiled softly and caressed his cheek. “Could you sing something for me?”
Daniel nodded. His voice was quiet, just barely above a whisper. “A h-heart on the run.” He gulped. His eyes connected with hers and he sighed shakily. “Keeps a hand on the gun. You can’t trust anyone. I was so su-s”
Daniel’s head bowed down and he wiped his eyes, “I-I’m so-sorry-”
Marigold shook her head, cupping his cheeks. She wiped his tears away and smiled softly. “I was so sure. What I needed was more, tried to shoot out the sun,” she sang.
Daniel lifted his eyes to hers, his frown breaking into a shaky smile. “The days when we raged, we flew off the page. Such damage was done,” he joined in unison.
Marigold stood up on her feet, reaching out her hand. Daniel stood up, his hand in hers as she pulled him closer. Her arms wrapped around his shoulders and Daniel held her waist, sucking in his breath. “But I made it through, 'cause somebody knew I was meant for someone.”
They swayed gently from side to side. Daniel cried quietly, pulling her closer until there was barely space between them, his forehead against hers. They shared the kisses that had been stolen from them, singing the unfinished lyrics of their song with their lips just a touch apart. A setting sun cast a dreamy light over the couple. Daniel’s singing was consumed by his tears and he buried his head in between her neck and shoulder. He held her tighter, his tears staining her beautiful dress.
“So cover me up and know you're enough.” Marigold rubbed her hands soothingly over his back and kissed his shoulder. “To use me for good.”
Marigold moved her hands to his chest. Daniel didn’t move, wanting to be in her arms. “My sweet, it’s getting dark. We should get home.”
Daniel pulled away reluctantly, holding her hand as they walked back to Apollo and Venus. Marigold waited by his side as he climbed his horse. She placed her hand on his knee and they leaned closer, their lips meeting each other halfway. Daniel nearly wished he couldn’t breathe when he pulled away for a breath. Marigold pecked his lips again before climbing her horse.
She travelled forward, Daniel following behind. Marigold sped up, urging her horse to gallop faster. Daniel frowned and tried to catch up with her.
“Sunshine,” he was an arm’s reach away.
“My sweet,” Marigold turned back to him with a smile, but it wasn’t the same. There was some underlying loss in her smile and it made Daniel’s heart drop to his stomach. “It’s time to go.”
“Sunshin-” he hurried Venus to run faster. “Sunshine! Marigold, wait!”
And we run
And we run
And we run
Daniel struggled, panting. The wind blew harshly in his face as Marigold moved faster, turning into a blur. Marigold faded farther and farther away until she disappeared. He cried out for her, his voice dying out into violent sobs. “Mari-stop!”.
Venus turned to mist from beneath him and Daniel fell to his knees. He pulled himself up, ignoring the ache in his legs and he broke into a sprint.
He felt himself fade the faster he ran, hearing a voice call out for him, but it wasn’t hers. The distance he covered never seemed enough as the fields ran endlessly in front of him. His legs gave out under him and he fell, head first into the grass.
Until we break through
Daniel’s eyes opened and he turned over with a groan, feeling someone shake his shoulder. “Dad, dad!”
He sat up in a sudden movement, startling Lennox. Daniel pulled himself to his feet, marching past Lennox to the stables.
“Dad, what happened? Where are you going?” Lennox followed him, his school bag bouncing on his bag as he kept up with his father. Daniel entered the stables, his shoulders falling as he found the horses well kept in their pens.
“Dad?”  Lennox walked up to his side and held his arm, looking up at a distraught Daniel. He looked down at Lennox and brushed his hand over his head. Daniel pulled Lennox close, hugging him tight. Lennox welcomed the hug, unknowing of the inner turmoil in Daniel’s heart. He could still feel her in their own shining star, little remnants of sunshine and beautiful blooming flowers.
“Let’s go inside, Spud,” he whispered.
Lennox pulled away with a smile and jogged back into the house. Daniel watched him go before he turned back to the stable. He looked past the open entryway where the green fields stretched out to the horizon, meeting the sky.
And we run
And we run
And we run

🎃🍏🥂
Thank you for asking wifey 💛💙
This got a little longer than expected, whoops. So I'll just leave a cut here 💛
🎃 Favourite Holiday
Lizzie & Ava answered here
Selene: Selene loves Christmas. She was allowed to spend it at the Hexleys' (@the-al-chemist) several times, even though her parents didn't really approve of the influence they (meaning Ethel) have on their daughter. But Selene has her ways to make sure her parents are glad to let her stay some other place instead of her wracking their townhouse in Edinburgh. Maybe some flying ferrets were involved, maybe not. We'll never know.
Carolyn: Caro doesn't really get excited for holidays. To her, it's just the same as all the other days so why make a big fuss about it. She loves the way Brady (@kc-and-oc) gets excited about them, however, especially when it comes to Christmas. If anyone manages to get her into a festive mood, it's him. Another thing she actually enjoys is New Year's Eve, but more because of the opportunity to dress up than anything else.
Reva: Reva adores Halloween. Dressing up in scary costumes, jump-scares around every corner or telling ghost stories with her friends? She's so in. Her favourite Halloween has got to be the one time she visited her uncle Jake in America, however, to see how Halloween is done 'properly'.
Dylan: It's not a holiday as such, but Dylan likes summer solstice. He likes summer in general and spends all the time he can outside. When he was little, his parents, Reva and he would always make a bonfire in their garden, just because. He tried doing the same during his Hogwarts years, sneaking out with some friends to have a bonfire on the grounds but it didn't really turn out the way he expected it to. Let's just say, as good a friend as Saffron (@the-al-chemist) is to Dylan, he will never celebrate summer solstice with her ever again.
Danielle: Danielle comes after her mother Penny when it comes to all things love and romantic. So naturally, she gets very excited about Valentine's Day. She's hyped up about it days in advance and enjoys hiding little gifts for her friends and loved ones. On the day itself, she goes all out with the effort, much to the annoyance of Dylan who doesn't really see the sense of it all. But Danielle doesn't care - she's cheerful enough for both her and her grumpy boy.
🥂 Favourite party
Lizzie: Any party her friends organise revolving around Quidditch matches. Pre-match parties take her mind off her incredibly strong nerves that usually start showing the evening before the match, while post-match parties are the perfect opportunity to either celebrate a glorious victory or drown a crushing defeat. Lizzie has some very good memories related to post-match parties in particular.
Ava: Ava isn't that sociable but she prefers sitting and drinking with friends (or people she tolerates) to actual parties. Casual, informal and no fuss about it.
Selene & Caro answered here
Reva: Any party is Reva's favourite party, as long as there isn't too much etiquette involved. She'd trade a spontaneous get-together for a gala party any time, but you can have quite a lot of fun on both, if you know how. And, oh boy, if Reva doesn't know, no one does.
Dylan: Dylan would prefer hanging around in his own circle of friends but he does go to parties if the occasion arises. He prefers the more informal ones and is happy to find a quiet place to himself or where he can chat in peace with other people instead of being in the thick of it.
Danielle: Danielle loves any party that involve dancing, whether it's formal or just goofing around. She enjoys dressing up for them and loves helping her friends with their make-up. And all the gossip you can share the next morning? So much fun.
🍏 Favourite food
Lizzie: Cherries! Surprise 😂 She loves them so much Orion planted not one but three cherry trees in their garden and cherry season is Lizzie's favourite time of the year.
Ava: Ava is living for Chinese food, she could happily eat it for the rest of her life. Also, chocolate with whole hazelnuts. Touch her chocolate and you might live to regret. Or you might not live at all. Your choice whether you want to find out.
Selene: Her uncle Mortimer's raspberry cranachan
Carolyn: Kanelbullar - the Swedish version of cinnamon buns
Reva: Reva loves peaches, preferably the white ones. When she joined him and his uncle for NYE one time, Farid (@carewyncromwell) made a delicious phirni with fresh peaches for her. Merlin knows where he sourced those at that time of the year but Reva didn't ask - she was way too busy enjoying the lovely taste.
Dylan: Dylan doesn't care much about food, as long as it's good and doesn't contain any meat, he's content. If he had to choose something, it would be pancakes with fresh fruit, preferably made by his dad because he could actually eat those pretty much every day.
Danielle: If she could eat only one cuisine for the rest of her life, it would be Italian. Danielle loves the Italian way of cooking, whether it's pizza, pasta, fish, desserts... anything really. She'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite but would probably go for traditional Tiramisu.

As Sam carried their bowl into the kitchen after dinner, Edrissa met their eyes with a shy smile. They stacked their bowl by the sink as Vera rolled up her sleeves and turned on the hot water. Isaac and Gavin began to pile the cooking pans by the sink, Gavin’s eyes a little red-rimmed, and Isaac watching Gavin as they moved around the kitchen. Finn and Ellis had decided to eat dinner in Burmingham after they’d spent all day fixing up their house. Tori kissed Vera gently on the cheek and stood to the side of the sink, ready to dry dishes as Vera handed them to her.
Zachariah hovered at Sam’s shoulder, an anxious, near-constant presence since he’d called Edrissa ‘sweetheart’ that afternoon. He wrung his hands, glancing every now and then at the sink where Vera was now scrubbing each dish, rinsing it, and passing it to Tori to dry.
Almost without thinking, Sam gently placed their hand on Zachariah’s arm.
Edrissa’s gaze flicked to Sam’s hand, and back to their face. Her clear blue eyes darkened, just a little. Faded. Her smile was still there, as gorgeous as ever, but the corners of her mouth fell slightly as Sam watched. They wet their lips to speak.
“Want to go for a walk?” Edrissa said first. Her gaze flicked to Zachariah. “Um… just… just you and me.” She smiled wider, but it seemed forced, that sadness still tightening in her eyes.
Sam’s mouth went dry, and they swallowed. “Yeah,” they rasped. They glanced at Zachariah and squeezed his arm.
Zachariah’s eyes went slightly wide, and he glanced around at the others.
“They won’t bite,” Sam said gently, and smiled at him. They stepped away and followed Edrissa to the back of the house, and out into the warm night.
The sun was still up, shining over the lake, not even behind the trees yet. Sam blinked and tilted their head back, breathing in deep the clean air, the smell of the grass and sand and trees. They felt the wind play through their hair, felt Edrissa’s warm fingers clasp through theirs as they walked through the overgrown yard and out the back gate to the beach. The grass was patchy, giving way to sand that shifted under Sam’s bare feet.
The moon hadn’t risen yet. It was almost the full moon – Edrissa kept track of things like that, the moon, the seasons, the time when the herbs in the garden sprouted and bloomed. She had a little journal Gray had given her where she drew plants and charts of the starts, patterns for clothes, sketches of Nata where he sat in the sunny windowsills. It occurred to Sam that the last time they saw Edrissa scribbling in her little book, she’d been close to the end of it. Sam had seen a shop in Crayton that sold pretty things like Edrissa seemed to like: notebooks, pens, tiny jars of colorful ink that they’d seen her staring at when they went into town. They were unbelievably expensive, all of it either taken off luxury syndicate shipments or purchased from black market dealers – who knew there was a black market for fountain pens? – but if Sam started volunteering with the refugees and saving the credits Daniel Schiester gave them…
Maybe I should get her a new notebook, they thought to themself. Maybe she’d like the one with the pink flowers on the cover. Or… she seemed to like the leather ones, too. Maybe I could get one for her birthday. When was that again? I think it was—
“We missed your birthday,” Sam whispered.
Edrissa blinked and looked at them. “What?” The sun shone on her hair, making it seem like liquid gold.
Sam reached out and tucked a lock behind her ear. “Y-your birthday,” they said softly. “It’s in May, isn’t it? We… we missed it.”
Edrissa shrugged and looked at the sand shifting under her feet as she walked. She turned slightly and they both began to walk along the shore of the lake. “It was May fifth. You were, um… s-south,” she murmured.
Sam stopped where they stood. “Oh.”
Edrissa stopped beside them and squeezed their hand. “It’s okay,” she said gently. “Gray celebrated with me. We went into town and went to that restaurant that makes the cheese they light on fire. Then we went to Ms. Clancy’s nursery and Gray let me pick out any herb I wanted.” Edrissa glanced back at the house. “I picked the lemon balm. It’s loving the cool weather. That’s what I made the tea from.”
Sam turned to fully face Edrissa. She had a proud little smile on her face, and a sparkle in her eyes that she always got when she talked about her beautiful things. The breeze made wisps of her hair float around her face, and her lips were curved up into a smile that made Sam want to lean forward and kiss her.
Without a word, they cradled her face and brushed their lips against hers.
Edrissa sighed and pulled Sam close, her fingers winding into their shirt. She trembled as Sam carefully pulled their right arm out of its sling and wound it around her waist, holding her close. Their right shoulder was sore, but there was no flash of pain, no bolt of agony through the wound. Edrissa ghosted her tongue over Sam’s lower lip and they whimpered softly. They didn’t meet her tongue with theirs, though, because Edrissa didn’t like that.
But Edrissa liked kissing Sam, and Sam loved that.
Edrissa pulled slightly away, breaking the kiss but keeping her forehead pressed against Sam’s. She shivered in the breeze and blew out a slow breath as she held Sam.
“Edrissa?” Sam said softly. They gently pulled their hands away and let them fall to their sides. Their right arm twinged, and chewed the inside of their cheek as they held back their groan of pain. Their gaze moved over her face. Her fingers tightened in Sam’s shirt and she bit her lip like she was holding back tears.
Sam’s eyebrows drew together. Their stomach dipped. “Edrissa?” They licked their lips. “What’s the matter?”
Edrissa finally released Sam and wiped her eyes. She sniffed. “Um… I was just thinking… um…” She shrugged jerkily. “I’ve been, um… w-watching, um, you. And Zachariah.”
Sam’s eyebrows shot up, and they pushed down the stir of warmth in their chest. “Y-yeah?”
“Yeah,” Edrissa said. She cleared her throat. “And you, um… you seem to, um, do really well together. You look, um, good.”
Sam ventured a smile. “So do you, Edrissa,” they said gently.
Edrissa waved the comment away. “He’s… he’s big, and, um, and strong, and he’s really nice.”
“Yeah, he is.” Sam reached out and squeezed Edrissa’s hand. The sling hung empty around their neck.
“And… he seems to like, um, you.” Edrissa shrugged again. She wrapped her free arm around her waist and looked at the ground.
Sam’s heart skipped a beat. “You think so?” they croaked, and glanced back towards the house, shining white-yellow in the sun.
“He’d be really good for you, Sam,” Edrissa said, and Sam was confused to hear a hint of sadness – of dismay – in her voice. “He’s good, and kind, and he’ll protect you. And he’d probably be okay with… he’d… probably…” Edrissa released Sam’s hand and wrapped her other arm around her waist, squeezing herself tight. Tears glittered in her eyes.
Sam’s eyebrows pulled together, and they tilted their head as they looked at Edrissa – their beautiful girlfriend, their sweet Edrissa, gorgeous and talented and special. They chewed their lip. “Edrissa… I don’t…”
“What I mean to say is,” Edrissa said, tight-lipped, “Is that… I think you two should go together.”
Sam watched Edrissa carefully. “Okay…”
“Because… I would understand if…” Edrissa blinked and two tears ran down her cheeks. Edrissa swiped them away and stared at the ground again. “You deserve… everything, Sam,” she rasped. “You deserve someone who’s strong, and not broken, someone who can, um… h-have sex. I don’t know if I’ll… ever want to. I don’t know if I can.”
Sam reached out to her. “Edrissa, I—”
She pulled away from their grasp. “He’s good for you, Sam,” she whimpered, her voice trembling. “You’re good together. And I mean… he’s… he’s gorgeous… and so considerate, and he’d… he’d… treat you s-so well…”
Sam’s heart pounded in their chest. “Edrissa, are you… b-breaking up with me?” Their chest ached. Their skin felt too tight, their lungs not quite able to expand.
“N-no!” Edrissa cried, and grabbed Sam’s hand. “No, I… I want to be with you, I just… I want you to be… happy. And Zachariah can make you happy.”
“You make me happy, too,” Sam whimpered. Their mind reeled, grasping for an answer, a reason why Edrissa would do this. “And… you like him too, right?”
Edrissa blinked. “Well… yeah, I mean… he’s… he’s wonderful. I like his arms, and his voice, and his lips, and how he always wants to help me in the kitchen, and… and…” She blushed a furious crimson.
Sam drew in a deep breath, trying to calm their pounding heart, trying to soothe the ache in their chest. “So… if you like him… and I like him…”
“He’ll choose you,” Edrissa whispered. “I know he’ll choose you. You’re…” Edrissa’s gaze flicked up to Sam and back. “You’re… He’d have to be crazy not to choose you.”
Sam looked at Edrissa for a long moment, searching her face with their gaze, swallowing against the lump in their throat. “Um… Edrissa, we could just… be with him… together?”
Edrissa blinked and raised her gaze to Sam’s. “We could… what?”
Sam shrugged. “I mean… you don’t have to? But… if you like him, and I like him, and he seems to like both of us…”
“You think so?” Edrissa breathed. Her eyes shone with painful-looking hope.
Sam suddenly thought back to Edrissa clambering up onto Zachariah’s back, holding the baking sheet aloft like a shield – and of how Zachariah’s hands had gently curved around her legs, how he’d been so careful as he dodged Sam’s handful of whipped cream, how he’d kept her safe, even from that innocent attack.
“Yeah,” Sam said with a nod. “I think so.”
Edrissa swallowed hard. “Is that… something people do… a lot?” she murmured. “I thought… I don’t know, I’ve never seen that before. My parents were married only to each other, and my boyfriend and I were only with each other, and my o-owner only ever had—” She cut herself off with a gasp and looked back down at her feet, sinking into the soft sand.
“I just know it’s something people do,” Sam said gently. “And we don’t have to if you don’t want to. But… Edrissa…” They stepped forward and cupped Edrissa’s face, tilting her head back so they could see her eyes. “I would, um… really, really like that. If we could all… be together. And… please know that…” They leaned forward and gently kissed Edrissa’s cheek. She drew in a short, quick breath. “I like you. A lot. And just because you’ve been through… what you’ve been through…” They kissed her other cheek, and she whimpered softly. “…doesn’t mean I don’t want to be with you. I told you.” They gently pressed their lips to hers. “I don’t need to have sex, if you don’t want to have it. You’re my… my girlfriend.” They smiled at the shiver of her breath against their lips as they said it. “And you told me what you wanted when we started this, and I told you that’s what I wanted, too.”
“Oh,” Edrissa murmured. She pulled Sam close and laid her head on their shoulder. “So… did you want to talk to him… tonight?”
Sam’s stomach flipped at the idea of pulling Zachariah close, kissing him, as Edrissa touched him, too, as he touched them both, together. Their mouth went dry. “Um, yeah,” they croaked. They laughed softly. “Yeah. Tonight. Sounds good.”
They turned back towards the house. Sam slung their left arm over Edrissa’s shoulders. She laced her fingers through theirs, and wound her arm around their waist. They laughed as they bumped hips, stumbling over the sand, as they made their way back to the house.

Tumblr media
Karasuno:
Hinata: Sofia by Clairo. It’s actually kind of a happy song and Hinata is a ray of sunshine. I cried to it purely because of the line “I think we could do it if we tried.” LIKE I WAS SOBBING
Kageyama: Bravado by Lorde. I cried to this when I was a kid and I’ve assigned it to him because of it’s like about her rising above her shortcomings to embrace her career/fame and Kageyama basically did that when he chilled out from the king of the court thing
Suga: Epiphany by BTS because he learned to let go of his envy of Kageyama and be happy for his team and himself even though he wasn’t on the starting line-up
Daichi: Not About Angels by Birdy and Next To You from Parasyte cuz that’s the part where the girl dies. Rest in Peace Daichi 😔💔🪦 some angels leave us too soon
Tsukki: Car Radio by Twenty One Pilots. Idk he just screams TOP to me
Yamaguchi: Literally this OST from Mulan where she cuts all her hair off. Also Bravado by Lorde and Epiphany by BTS because he radiates all of those “overcoming my weaknesses and mental barriers to become my best self” vibes
Nishinoya: Training Wheels by Melanie Martinez because of the scene of him biking as a kid he used to be scared of everything and now he’s not and I just love my baby boi
Tanaka: If You’re Not The One by Daniel Bedingfield because he would sing that to Kiyoko TELL ME HE WOULDN’T YOU CANNOT BECAUSE HE WOULD BECAUSE THEY LOVE EACH OTHER ugly cries
Seijoh:
Oikawa: Girl From Mars by Cosmic Child because space AND BECAUSE IT’S LITERALLY ABOUT SOMEONE WHO HIDES THEIR SADNESS AND THAT’S OIKAWA HE’S DEPRESSED. That’s self-explanatory. And the Most Beautiful Moment In Life by BTS because it’s literally about Suga putting his all into basketball and neglecting his life to the point that he’s scared of it and I just feel like that’s Oikawa
Iwaizumi: Heart by Heart by Demi Lovato because I feel like he’d just be the best sweetest boyfriend and like the romance would just be so passionate and I- that’s all I love Iwa
Nekoma:
Kuroo: Mind over Matter by Young the Giant and Hometown Glory by Adele. Kuroo gives me intense “cute neighbor boy you’ve had a crush on forever” vibes. Mind Over Matter never fails to make me sob
Kenma: SUBWOOFER LULLABY LMAOOO and This Side of Paradise by Coyote Theory because I want to be lonely with Kenma
Lev: Class of 2013 by Mitski because Lev is def the bby of the family and 100% needed to be kicked out of the house
Yaku: Like or Like Like by Minature Tigers cuz it’s happy and I just can’t imagine Yaku as anything but happy or maybe frustrated tbh. I’m not sure why I cried to this song but I definitely did.
Fukurodani:
Bokuto: Always Forever by Cults. I want to be with Bokuto always forever and it’s just so sweet and pure and that’s Kou for you and I just love him and this song makes me feel so much. And One of One by Duendita because that’s how he’d make his s/o feel. I’m not wrong.
Akaashi: GOLD RUSH BY TAYLOR SWIFT. WHY? Because Akaashi is absolutely stunning and that’s what the song talks about. ALSO THIS OST FROM HXH BECAUSE IT’S THE PART WHERE KILLUA IS LIKE “GON YOU ARE LIGHT” AND THAT’S LITERALLY HOW AKAASHI FEELS ABOUT BOKUTO TELL ME I’M WRONG YOU CAN’T. Also Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish because he would. HE WOULD. No.1 Reliable boi Kaashi
Shiratorizawa:
Ushijima: Ghostin by Ariana Grande because I want to ghost him. Not really but like the only pity I ever had for him was when his parents bullied him for being left-handed like wtf was that
Tendo: …yeah I cried to Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul at 3am, but listen I’m giving it to Tendo because he did not deserve to be called a monster like he is literally an angel and I’m glad he embraced it but like TF HE WAS A CHILD.
Semi: 505 by Arctic Monkeys. Semi the actual celebrity. He writes music like this. Semi deadass would write this song. Semi is a sex icon as an adult for sure. He deserves this song
Inarizaki:
Kita: New Year’s Day by Taylor Swift. Kita is the one to enjoy the domestic moments in life after the party with. He’d stay and help you pick up the party, HE’S LITERALLY PERFECT OKAY?? And Wait by M83. It just gives me Kita vibes.
Aran: The Night by Lovewave. It’s so calm like my boy Aran is and like just imagine walking home late at night with him and then like parting ways forever. It just screams Aran.
Osamu: SATISFIED FROM HAMILTON. Yeah, I cried to this because I have a little sister. And Osamu gives me intense “I sacrifice a lot for my impulsive sibling and they don’t see it” vibes
Atsumu: NUMBER 1 PARTY ANTHEM by Artic Monkeys. This song literally just screams Atsumu. I can’t explain it. Sexy, heartbroken Atsumu trying to hit up a girl at the bar as a distraction just to find out she’s taken just immediately reminds me of Atsumu. Also Boyish by Japanese Breakfast cuz I wrote a fic about it.
Suna: Quit by Cashmere Cat and Ariana Grande. Idk. It just makes me think of him. Maybe it’s because it talks about the person she’s leaving like a drug and Suna gives me intense stoner vibes.
Other:
Sakusa: Clean by Taylor Swift 🤷🏻‍♀️

i’m rewatching monday’s 911 episode and holy shit do i have a theory. brace yourselves: this is a rough one. tw: child death, hostage situations
so around the seven-minute mark, bobby and eddie have this conversation:
bobby: where’s buck? is he joining us? eddie: on the phone with dr. copeland. emergency therapy session bobby: again? eddie: yeah. he had to ask her for advice on some, uh, de-escalation techniques bobby: what, is he afraid his parents visit is going to turn into a hostage situation? chimney: *drops silverware*
notwithstanding the fact that this scene is giving father-and-son-in-law-discuss-their-mutual-loved-one vibes, let’s start with chimney because he’s the real star of this scene. we already know chimney can’t keep a secret. CHIMNEY knows chimney can’t keep a secret, and all through the episode he conveys cues to the viewer that he is trying (and failing) to hold this secret in. this is one of those cues. this, to me, seems like he is startled by how close to the truth bobby’s statement actually came. we know he’s not startled by the mention of buck because they’ve already been talking about him. he can’t be startled by the mention of his parents because he’s probably been hearing about that from buck and maddie both. so what else could have caused him to respond like this?
so okay, go with me here, i’m about to make everyone miserable, but what if daniel was killed in an actual hostage situation? i know this sounds like crack, stay with me.
picture the buckley family: a mom, a dad, a sister, a brother, your run of the mill suburban nucleus. according to maddie, her parents used to be happier. i assume that also means they were better parents, hence the fact that she has a baby box (i’m assuming daniel did too). they lived a good life, a happy life, until one day that all changes.
maybe mom or dad goes to the bank. they walk into something they didn’t mean to, wrong place, wrong time. everyone’s forced to get on the ground, hands behind their heads or the guy’s gonna start blowing people’s brains out. the cops show up, his plan is going off the rails, he gets agitated and shoots daniel (daniel’s not the only one who gets shot, but for the sake of this theory, he’s the only one that matters). by the time the cops apprehend the guy, daniel is critical, practically dead already. he’s rushed to the hospital where the doctors perform emergency surgery; hooked up to tubes, bleeding all over the table, all over the floor. he didn’t stand a chance. he’s confirmed dead only an hour or two after he arrives at the hospital.
the buckley family has been shattered, no longer that picture perfect dream the other neighbors used to envy (because we know the buckley parents are all about their image, but that’s a post for a different day). mom and dad are devastated. the little girl has just lost her brother and doesn’t know how to cope by herself. they withdraw from her first. when mom finds out she’s pregnant, the occasion feels more like a time to mourn than a time for celebration.
by the time the baby, another little boy, is born, mom and dad have taken their hands off their children completely. the little girl practically raises herself, and once he’s old enough to eat real food, she’ll practically raises the little boy too. the little boy who is a sad replica of the ghost haunting the buckley family, the little boy who will never, ever fill the shoes of his dead brother no matter how hard he tries.
the parents blame themselves for the loss; how could they not? it’s safer to just take their hands off their kids completely. they’ll be alright. when the little boy is old enough to understand concepts beyond asking basic why questions, mom and dad pull the little girl aside. it’s the first real conversation they’ve had with her in months. “maddie, promise us you won’t tell evan about what happened to daniel. remember how sad you were when that happened? we don’t want to make him sad.” of course she agrees to that; her little brother is her world, she doesn’t want to make him sad.
and so buck grows up feeling lesser, surrounded by an overprotective sister and emotionally distant parents.
and so the secret remains buried.
until now.
