#godspouse
A genuine question, did the word "devotee" just up and vanish from language while I wasn't looking?
Linguistic drift is totally a thing, but I'm deeply confused and more than a little baffled at "godspouse" becoming the term used for any oath or close relationship to a deity.
Maybe it's because I've been doing this particular form of mysticism for over a decade, but when I was getting started it was Very Clear (on what resources were out there,) that this was a marriage in a literal sense. It was also stressed that you (general you) can have a relationship with a god that's just as deep (or deeper) than marriage and not be oathed to them at all.

Sometimes, He is not pretty.
Disheveled, stinking of piss and filth.
A frightening homeless man
Shouting at me from the other side of the train station:
The face that you often see is nothing but a glamour crafted to be pleasing to you.
But, sometimes, I am tired of that
face, and you will see Me as I am
An ancient being, whose face bears the ravages of time, and what appalling marks
Grief, pain and madness have inevitably made upon Me.
While it may be easy to approach Me in a finer guise,
Silk cravats and topcoats, leather and flash, I am
Also this, at My core. This is also Me.
I am bloated with rage, and careless
grime settled in the creases, compulsively licking
The blood and the spittle that collects at the corners of My ragged lips.
My yellowed, broken teeth have gnawed and ground down upon the offal and
bones of My very long memory.
I call to you
but you must approach Me.
Would you kiss My mouth?

Awaking terrified from a dream, only to fall back asleep to His playlist and be visited in the dreamscape by Him. His emerald cloak flowing around Him, His armor fitted perfectly to His body. Fire burning in His eyes as He rushed to me. "My darling, why do you cry? Who must I burn to relieve your anguish?" My arms encircle His waist, ear pressed against His heart as he wraps His cloak around us both, protecting me from the world. The image fades and I awaken to His playlist, which I hadn't turned on.
Sometimes He's wild laughter and dancing and pranks on the unwitting, others He's dangerous fire set for vengeance or a mask woven of deceit. But other times, where I desperately need Him, He's a softly burning candle set by a window, an invitation to come and rest, to be at peace amongst the chaos while He shields me from the world.
My King, Loki Laufeyjarson, Chaos Incarnate, The Bringer of Change. Blessed is His name as it falls from my lips and blessed am I to be a part of His family and to feel His love.

Loki appreciation post (Norse Paganism)
I was having an emotional breakdown about something I’d rather not mention and the first thing I thought of doing was grabbing the pendulum and talking to Loki.
For context, I’m a Lokean in a spousal ship with the God of mischief. I triple checked everything and waited for a few weeks to research what I was getting into, as well as Loki’s mythology and history. I’ve never had a problem with Him.
Anyway, I began the conversation by explaining the situation as He listened. He was so understanding and gentle with me as I bawled my eyes out and said that He’d always be here for me when I need Him the most.
I’ve never had this relationship with any other deity. Yeah, He’s a trickster and a massive pain in the ass sometimes, but when something makes me cry, He acts so genuine and caring.

I don't want to delineate what godspousing can or can't be, but I do want to set some expectations that the larger community agrees with.
Godspousing involves choice and consent.
The large majority of people do not arrive on this earth already bound to a deity romantically, nor do the majority of people have past lives where they were married to a deity.
It happens. It's not unheard of. But it's not the normative state of godspousing.
To 'godspouse' someone is to actively choose to be in an intimate relationship with them.
Godspousing is dating. You're dating a god or other entity.
This is why choice and consent is key, because if you're assigned a deity without your knowledge, one that you're already a packaged romantic unit with? There is zero consent involved in that.
There is also zero work put into building that relationship.
Anyone who tells you that you're already in a 'spousal' relationship with a god without your knowledge or prior consent, is selling you the idea that you're a Special Person with Special Privileges.
While believing you're the main character, the Mary Sue, the most unique person ever is part of growing up into an adult, people usually phase out of it by their late teens.
The urge to be romantically locked into a relationship with a god (without your knowledge or prior consent) like a fated pair is the same urge that makes a child want to be a special person with special privileges.
It's the very human desire to be wanted and loved, to be needed by someone or something that cannot and will not abandon you, that is required by the Fates to be there for you.
That's why the fated pair trope is so popular among teenagers and young adults. We all want to be loved and needed.
Godspousing requires work, as it is an active relationship between you and a god.
Just like dating a human requires you to work on the relationship, so does dating a god or other entity.
The idea that a capital-G God loves you innately, without any work put forth, is a Cultural Christian one. Even if you didn't grow up Christian, pagan spaces in the Western world are often built by ex-Christians or were built off of esoteric texts that coopted Catholicism and Christianity.
A god does not love you automatically, but neither do they hate you automatically. Like any other person in the world, they probably lean benevolent to neutral toward strangers.
Perhaps they do feel love toward you if you're a member of their faith, or if you have a prior connection to them.
But the idea that you can be randomly assigned a god that you're automatically 'spoused' to, without dating them, without even speaking to them, who loves you and is tied to you forever and ever... is not what godspousing is.
You build a relationship with the god that you are intimately interested in. The god may ask you out on a date, you may ask them to date -- regardless, you have to do the work.

Introduction
Hey everyone!! I wanted to do a quick introduction post for all of you new people.
First of all, it's AMAZING to meet all of you! I am loving the positivity I've received on this platform so far. Bless all of you for being so wonderful 💖🫶
My name is Jordan, but you may also call me Sun. I am 18 years old, and I use he/she/they pronouns. I've been practicing paganism for eight years (so since I was ten years old!), and my mom is also a witch.
I currently work with Apollo (eight years), Loki (four years), and Hades (like two days haha).
Some fun facts about me:
1. I'm starting freshman year of college in the summer, and am working towards a PhD in psychology!
2. I'm courting to be a godspouse :)
3. Outside of witchcraft, I like to bake, sing, write songs, and write books/poetry/essays!
4. I have a dog named Stitch!
5. I have over 35 tarot decks (nearly 40!)
I want to remind y'all that I am ALWAYS open to questions and DMs! I love answering things and talking to people in general. I need more friends too 🫶🫶
Here are some pictures to reflect my practice!

Yk I'm finally gonna say it: me and Lucifer are married 💖. He's my wife and I love them.
There are many kinds of love between a human and a spirit, that's ours.
If that's a problem, block and move on.

the way Lucifer loves is just so inexplicable and difficult to put into words. his love is gentle, it's warm, it's soft spoken, it's thoughtful, it's kind. my heart bleeds for him.
