"the fandom ruined mha" is one of those vastly popular opinions that i've never quite understood. because they honestly...weren't as bad as people made it seem??? i swear people with zero fandom experience will see a thirteen year old in cheap cosplay having fun and say shit like "ew i hate this fandom you're ruining it" like maybe leave the goddamn kid alone??

mha has a very large fan community, and what makes it a little different than most other anime fandoms is that mha was specifically targeted for a global audience. they did their best to avoid any quirks and cliche tropes of anime that would go over non-japanese' heads. the art style is pretty cartoonish and it's got lots of references to western comics. there's a whole ass movie set in the US. what i'm trying to say is that a large, international fandom was always what they were going for, and it was well received. it was one of those shows that you'd kind of had to watch if you wanted to be in anime spaces back in like 2016-2018. mind you this is when even aot wasn't that popular. and when something is so popular, there's gonna be lot of weird people in the fandom. BECAUSE most of them will be people who have never been in fandom spaces before. the "cringy mha fans" that were the butt of every joke in anime discord were more of than not minors having just been introduced to anime or fandom culture as a whole. there were lots of weird stuff, i admit. but was it ever really that serious? like why couldn't yall just leave those people alone??

another thing people just couldn't stop talking about was how there were way too many ships in the fandom but 1) why is that a bad thing? and 2) of course there were gonna be a lot of ships in a show that introduced TWO WHOLE CLASSROOMS OF TEENAGERS AS THE MAIN CAST who interacted all the time. not to mention all the students from other hero schools, upperclassmen, pro heroes & teachers. there are like a million characters in this show and the more characters the more potential ships -it's fucking common sense. i think what really happened there was that people outside of the fandom looked at the fanmade content and thought the fandom must have been obsessed with ships. when in reality i think the fans were really chill about it. most of them were multishippers, they didn’t mind the other pairings. i understand that for an outsider's eye all the ships and disclose must've looked chaotic but in fandom spaces people know how to filter the content they engage with so there really arent any serious "ship wars" going on anywhere except for maybe instagram comments.

i am not saying all the ships were unproblematic, there were some pretty weird ships going on too, but honestly i thought half of them were jokes? or at least crackships? and if you compared the number of fics those kind of pairings have on ao3 to the more family friendly ones you'd see that there really weren't an actual fanbase for any of those weird ass pairings.

i think the core of mha fandom has never been as chaotic as others thought it was. mha fans were interested in the story, the fights & the character development while casually enjoying ships as well. it wasn't that serious until yall started bullying a bunch of kids online. with the rise of tiktok and the boredom the pandemic caused there were a huge amount of amateur content. i'm not saying i've never seen a mha fan being genuinely cringe. i just think the mature response to those posts would have been leaving the poor kids alone.

yesterday i've seen a youtube video about how awful mha fans are and this guy just showed a clip of a bunch of cosplayers outside of what was probably an anime convention dancing to gangnam style and he was going on and on about how annoying they are. and it made me so angry because where the fuck did these anime fan bourgeoisie snobs come from telling people they can't have fun at FUCKING ANIME CONVENTIONS??? i dont know if you've ever been to one but an anime con is basically the only place that's supposed to be safe to do cringe shit like that. everyone goes to those things in cosplay, some better than others. but last i checked everyone was pretty nice to each other, complimenting each other's costumes, asking to take photos. the cosplays don't have to be good, they don't even have to be complete. a convention is the one place you can show up in a wig you bought off ebay and a costume you finished making the night before. i dont know what yall are on but people go to those events to have fun. not to be filmed and made fun of. and from my personal experience having been in fandom spaces since middle school, someone who dances to gangnam style in a cheap todoroki cosplay is an infinitely nicer person than the stuck-up loser who makes a video complaining about it

you had decided to stay at kaveh’s apartment (that you weren’t aware he had a hot roommate he said he didn’t like), only because you had nowhere to stay and your budget wasn’t enough to rent a place. after all, you managed to enter the akademiya because of a scholarship, and it was an opportunity because the akademiya was one of the great schools in teyvat.

but after a few days of staying at kaveh’s apartment, he announced to you and his roommate that he would be going on a trip, and it was a requirement for his task. you glared at your cousin who suddenly made a decision (that he said, he didn’t have a choice) to leave you with the roommate he didn’t trust.

“i thought you didn’t trust your roommate? and now you’re leaving me with him?” you asked unbelievably to your cousin.

“i don’t. but i trust you that you knew how to handle yourself already,” he retorted, placing his clothes inside his baggage. what’s worse was he will be out for a few months, and you knew you wouldn’t be able to get enough mora (when you’re only helping in the library and they only gave you a few) to rent a place.

the reason why you were also willingly to come here and accept the scholarship. it’s because your parents declared that your cousin was studying here and you could stay at his place (they also didn’t know he has a roommate).

“bitch your roommate owns this apartment and you didn’t even say a word? to us?” you remembered rolling your eyes and crossing your arms when you managed to have alone time with kaveh.

he reasoned that he didn’t bother saying anything anymore, so that there wouldn’t be more questions coming from the family (since they won’t shut up when there were happenings around you and kaveh’s lives).

meh, understandable, but still. what the hell?

“alhaitham,” kaveh averted his gaze to his grey-haired man roommate, who had never left his sight on his book. “if you did something to my cousin i would burn you and your house alive.”

you snorted. he was so good at threatening people, but you knew that he would also never do it.

when kaveh left, the first few days with alhaitham was awkward, and the house was really silent unless they would ask each other about the house details like where would he be eating for tonight, whatsoever. other than that, nothing more.

nevertheless, time passed when there was a project you needed to do. but when you asked for your professor’s guidance (because there were difficulties on your part), he suggested that alhaitham should teach you.

you were annoyed, but it eventually became okay because he was your roommate for quite a while and hopefully he wouldn’t neglect you since your professor asked him to do it.

“you were doing it the wrong way,” that was his line whenever you talk to him about your project. you couldn’t help but sigh, but it was also okay for you because you’re taking this as an opportunity to become better.

during those days, you would make small talks when things went silent, and he oddly cooperated. you had never thought that this would be an entrance to make the two of you closer.

and you would be lying if you didn’t find him more attractive that you wouldn’t stop yourself from falling.

“i wonder how much information you know since you never stopped reading,” you said when both of you were getting some fresh air outside, yet his eyes were still focused on his book.

“enough that it would make your mind stir,��

you blinked.

twice.

either you got that or you didn’t. there were no betweens.

“well, you might be considered as the smartest man in the world since you contained a lot of information that would make your mind stir,” instead, you made a joke out of it. you chuckled out of foolishness.

he snorted. “that was a terrible joke.”

you rolled your eyes, “of course it was. that wasn’t a joke anymore at some point.”

his lips curved.

the chemistry friendship between you had gotten closer and if both of you had free time, you would hang out together. and it didn’t mean you would go out and do things, but staying at one place and letting the silence eat the ambiance away was enough to consider as a hang out.

you might have considered it as a rest too. the his presence was so comfortable and peaceful that you would never want to go away and his arms wrapped around you would make you simply not care about the world anymore.

his face wasn’t always buried in the pages of his book. instead, you two hung out more and you could see his facial softened whenever he was talking to you. you could see his smile frequently too.

you knew you were falling, yet you’re scared that things wouldn’t be the same if ever he didn’t like you back.

a sigh escaped your lips when you knew you had to live for two days because of a project in port ormos. you knew you would miss him (even though it’s only for two days—maybe you had gotten very comfortable and used to his presence to the point you didn’t want to be away from it anymore).

“see you in two days, roomie,” you giggled at the nickname you suddenly made. he glanced at you interestingly.

“since when did you start calling me that?”

“since now,” you teasingly smiled, remaining in eye contact with him.

“okay, be careful when you’re there.” he said, still maintaining eye contact. His eyes were so pretty.

“okay, roomie,” you teased.

he slightly rolled his eyes but his beautiful smile carved on his lips that you knew you would miss.

you wore your backpack on your back and prepared to walk away from his apartment.

yet you suddenly hovered your hands on your pocket, realising you forgot the keys with you.

“haitham,” you spoke softly, “you forgot to give me the keys,”

the next thing you knew, a soft lips were pressed in your lips. your eyes expanded and how your body reacted started to become uncontrollable.

without giving you time to adjust, he moved away. and your lips suddenly felt empty.

“haitham, the keys of the apartment not a kiss,” you pressed your lips together, maintaining your composure. “but that was better,”

he smirked, “you want me to kiss you again?”

you smiled, unable to trust yourself with how and what you will answer.

the next thing you knew, he leaned, feeling his delicate lips on yours that was lasting for only seconds but it felt long.

“haitham, the keys,” you whispered when you pulled away.

“that would be unnecessary, baby. i’ll be heading with you.”

“wait, huh?” you tried to prevent yourself from smiling because of the endearment, and the news he declared. “you’re coming too?”

“yes, i need to meet someone there for a day,” he answered. “i’ll wait for you to finish before we head home again.”

“thank you, haitham,” you smiled brightly, planting a small peck on his cheek.

“besides doing it for you, i’m also doing it for myself,” he replied with a smile. “two days without you would be insufferable.”

the cardinal and the kitten - 325 kudos

5. do you respond to comments?

Most of them yes!! I LOVE getting comments I screenshot and save every one I get.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Hm- I guess it depends. Hellscape ends with Carmen's internal monologue just before she gets mind-wiped by VILE, but its technically no angstier than canon. they gave you life (and in return you gave them hell) is pretty angsty the whole way through and examines Carmen's trauma.

Those are both little one-shots, though- I usually end my reigns of terror within chapter fics pretty happily if I can manage it. The Phantom AU (linked above) ends in a dark place but leagues brighter than it seemed to be heading towards. It isn't a terribly neat and happy ending, and it tells a story of trauma and attempted suicide and the road to recovery from these. Let's go with that one.

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

In Love Is A Locked Cell Door Chase Devineaux and Crackle happily start making out in a jail cell and live happily ever after!

Ok, being serious-

For a one-shot, simple (linked above) starts happy and ends happier.

For a chapter fic, Choice ends with Carmen, Julia, and Gray all living in a very happy polycule pardoned from the law with full emotional control of their lives which is fun :]

@emily-prentits used to leave passive aggressive comments on my wattpad and we would fight in the comments sections 💀now we're partners so make of that what you will. but anyway, no serious ones, no!

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

The one time I tried writing smut it was really forced and hard for me to write...doesn't help that I've never felt sexual attraction in my life so I don't know about that. I've had one or two...heavily referenced. Not in bad faith, but it was funny to see a lot of my plot and prose mannerisms reworded in a younger author's fic. I think they credited me as inspiration or gifted it to me both times so its not a big deal.

I have an au where paper star and black sheep escape VILE together and go through a sort of friends to lovers to enemies deal as carmen (renamed cardinal here due to never escaping in the boat the way she does in canon), though influenced by paper star at the start, eventually finds her inevitable path of good while paper star slips into a chaos that cardinal just can't stomach

if there's a small amount of it, i usually write it as-is in the other language and use external sources or context clues to explain it. if a lot of dialogue is in another language, I'll put it in brackets and write it in english!

that's really hard- i'm going to do top three in no particular order SORRY

Love, Carmen - this was the first or one of the first fics I ever wrote. it put me on the map a little bit (wattpad..) in terms of writing and boosted upon the sword and choice when they came along. it was really fun to just be young and writing after finishing all two released seasons of the show. i still like it a lot. its just cute and simple.

the phantom au - what a labor of love. i've had other fics (evil carlotta series, cough cough) that have been long and complex but those strayed into meandering and pointless and i lost a lot of motivation. phantom combined my love of theater with my favorite show and my hunger for angst angst angst. it was super fun to write and, at the risk of sounding vain, i pulled off a very hard to pull off trope at the end and i think i did it well. i think if you read any one of mine, this highlights a lot of my strengths.

the cardinal and the kitten - this is a popular one of mine that kind of serves as an updated love, carmen. i really enjoy how i wrote carmen and julia playing off of each other and my dialogue is very strong in this one.

okay, sorry about how long that was i treated it like a professional interview. i had a lot of fun writing this instead of working on a very important school project

To say that i am disgusted right now is an understatement.

For those that dont know, people have been sending @daddyslilchickenfingers messages threatening to kill her, her family, and telling her to kill herself. Disagreeing with someones actions and sending death threats are two very different things. Saying things like that, especially to a person who may already be struggling, can literally be a matter of life or death.

I woke up at 2am to posts confirming that Jess tried to commit suicide. I was sick to my stomach. I never thought that something like this would happen in this fandom. For many people, including me, Jess was our inspiration to begin writing and posting smut. Now, her Ao3 is gone, and I highly doubt she will be returning to this fandom. I honestly hope she doesn't, for her own well being.

I am a suicide/self harm survivor myself. I know people who have commited, and I know the impact that it has on family and friends when something like this happens. I also know the importance of kindness, and treating others with respect and dignity.

What happened was wrong, and all parties involved acknowledged that it was wrong. They know they made a mistake, so why do we feel like we need to keep beating them while they are down? Some of you are acting as if you have never made a mistake in your life. To be absolutely clear, this is not me defending incest/rape/pedophilia, I just understand that at the end of the day we are all just people. Nobody is perfect, and some mistakes may be bigger than others, but that does not mean anyone deserves to die.

I am sending love to those who need it most right now ❤

-You incorporate OC’s into your fics so seamlessly! They feel so natural in your fics that I legit get excited anytime they show up (srsly can’t wait for Lou Jitsu vs Hidden City, Sal’s my boy) lol how do you find the right balance when introducing and maintaining OC’s in your fics? I feel like that’s a particularly difficult balance beam to tread but you absolutely crush it.

-A previous ask you answered about Cass and Raph in LSoW got me thinking; how do the brothers handle humans crushing on them? Would they be receptive or dismissive? Do they develop crushes on humans- and if so, how is that perceived (by family or the general public)? The drama 👀

Omg thanks so much... I'm so happy people enjoy my writing it's crazy to me. I've written before, but it's always been just for myself so I never really know if it was good or not. (Years of text based DnD is to thank lol.) (Okay I got carried away answering this so sorry in advance.)

On OC's:

I got a lot of comments on LSoW from people who say "generally I don't like OC's BUT-" which is so funny and flattering. Because I am absolutely one of those people who don't care for OC's in fic.

Let me be clear: I LOVE that people write self indulgent self-insert of OC based fic, where they make the craziest off the wall story etc. Every time a fifteen year old writes a story about the cringiest Mary-sue/stu self insert, or non canon character, an angel gets its wings and I mean that one hundred percent. It makes me so happy I literally grin when I see it. I HOWEVER generally filter out the OC tags on AO3 when I'm looking for something to read myself.

So when I started posting LSoW I was expecting to get maybe like, 100 kudos MAX, maybe one comment or so. Which is great! I love writing niche fic just for me, and one other person who I assume I must be drift compatible with. I just could not figure out a way to write the story I wanted without a few OC's- Rise didn't have a big enough character catalog for me to draw from!

When I went to write the OC's, I knew that they had to have a very simple backstory, that was also very fleshed out. (Xander and Sal have full family, Dr. Heo and Carter have full jobs and history together, etc.) For another contradiction I wanted them to be interesting enough that someone reading wouldn't just be skipping ahead to when they weren't present, or just simply plowing through to get past the part where they were doing exposition. They had to be enjoyable! While also forwarding the story!

They also had to be distinct. Anyone who's ever watched a Whedon show or movie (Buffy, Firefly, Avengers-) knows what I'm talking about. It drives me nuts when the characters in a show are constantly the funniest person in the room, with the same personality traits, and the same girl boss/badass tendencies.

(Fandom challenge Impossible: Give a female fan favorite character another trait besides 'girlboss/mom/lesbian'. I'm dead serious.)

(Also a disclaimer: I LOVE making jokes and doing bits. I FANCY that I'm pretty funny, and I love making people laugh. But you can do that without making it a character personality trait. For example: Xander doesn't really crack any jokes in LSoW! He's just funny because we the reader know more about the situation and his thoughts than he does.)

But the BIGGEST THING I kept telling myself while writing the story, was DO NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE TURTLES. Because the whole point of the story is the turtles! And Yoshi! The OC's are there to facilitate that. It's a hard balance to hit. I have all sorts of touchstones I keep in mind while I'm writing, and that's a big one.

(A SUPER good example of this done super well is @faiakishi 's Bella from Dawning of the Hour. She's a great OC that's super interesting, and a super important narrative element, but she never detracts from the main story. Big Bella fan here lmao. There's also the rest of the OC's/interpretations of franchise characters (TIGERCLAW), but Bella stands out as truly original.)

On the Turtles dating Humans:

(CW: CSA mention, SA mention, non graphic talk of minors dating etc.)

I actually talked a lot about this to @/tangledinink in feverish discord chats lmao.

When the boys were growing up they got a very detailed talk from both Yoshi, and their Doctors. ONE: Because nobody will know better than themselves if something was medically wrong with their bodies, TWO: The boys are all intersex (minus Mikey) and they had to understand that there was nothing wrong with them on TOP of the turtle thing, and THREE: Because Yoshi knew the boys would be getting a lot of attention, and you never know what kind of attention that form will take.

THE BEST WAY to protect children (any child) from being sexually assaulted or abused, is making sure they know what that abuse LOOKS LIKE. You don't have to make them terrified of being sexually assaulted, but them knowing how their body works, and also how to say NO and set boundaries, will combine to help make them safer.

Yoshi didn't know what would happen in the future and in a perfect world the boys would never leave his line of sight, but that's not always how things happen. (In a Short Season, Xander parroted Yoshi's instructions before going out to make sure the boys knew what to do if someone grabbed them (in any way) and it was to bite and be loud.) So the boys grew up knowing their bodies, knowing how to say 'no', and knowing that there was probably going to be people out there who would treat them as a novelty, and who wouldn't be appropriate to them as celebrities OR non-humans.

(Remember Emma Watson having to deal with that countdown to her turning 18? Or any other amount of child stars who had to deal with adults being predatory to them.)

But ALSO THIS IS HAMATO YOSHI. His sons are HANDSOME and HEARTBREAKERS! Leo has dated a lot but never anything seriously, and his inability to be intimate with anyone but family kind of puts a damper on any more permanent relationship. (He is gay.) He's the number one turtle people ask out because he's the most approachable. Because he made himself that way!

Donnie is in a sort of relationship with Kendra. (THIS WILL BE A FIC I'm working up to it lmao.) I have a head canon that Yokai and other empyrean based creatures are capable of having rivalry based relationships. IE Yoshi and Draxum in the canon show, the unhealthy dynamic between Yoshi and Big Mama, etc. (Caliginous relationship) Donnie is in a puppy love version of that with Kendra, while also lacking the context of yokai society to understand why he wants to punch her very badly, but also if anything happened to her he would die. They hate each others guts and also she was his first kiss. She is not a nice person I am not a Kendra apologist she's terrible I love her. (Donnie is bi!)

I know a lot of people head canon Mikey as ace, but he is a thirteen year old child you don't have to be head canoning him as anything. it is the very rare 13 year old who knows their orientation, and even if they DO I bet you donuts to dollars it will change eventually. This is normal and healthy. Mikey in LSoW has had puppy crushes on boys, girls, teachers, Violet, the mailman, Adam, and Rupert Swaggert. (Eugh eugh eugh.)

Raph is absolutely irresistible to the entire student body and is completely unaware of it. He's not stupid but he's face blind and bad at picking up subtext in conversations. He's gone to multiple people's houses and spent the whole day with them, without realizing they were trying to make it a date. (Raph is bi.)

All the boys have considered identifying as girls since their Dad is the martial arts equivalent of David Bowie and Fine With That, but have settled (for now) on being boys (age 10 the last time they considered this) because quote 'Lou Jitsu and Jupiter Jim are boys and they're awesome' unquote.

They don't get any fucking privacy for their relationships, and Leo in particular had a very bad experience that closed him off from dating big time. (Stamps 'THIS WILL BE A FIC' on this as well.) But also, as of the LSoW canon they are like, 12-14 and not doing a lot of dating ANYWAY. They are BABIES.

ON CROSSOVERS:

I have one crossover with my white whale of authors (you know who you are) I have pecked at with them that I think everyone will go fucking nuts for and love, but I won't mention it in case we can't get it off the ground! (A completely okay and normal thing to happen lmao.) I think that one will end up happening though because I am too excited about it, even if it's not any time soon.

I am super open to crossovers and cowriting, especially since writing with Li because I learned SO MUCH it was like speed running improvement.

The thing is it has to fit! There's some crossovers that wouldn't have a lot of substance because there's not really a lot to cover. When it came to EiL for example, there was PLENTY to cover and do, it was so fun! But other fics might not have a lot we could do for each other. (At least, not until I get some more world building done.)

That being said I do love talking crossovers with other creators it's so fun...

Your in-depth posts literally have me FOAMING AT THE MOUTHH I don't have much time to read longer books due to school but I wanna feed my obsession so do you have any books on the shorter side or some websites/archives I can research/read a bit quicker? now this is a tricky question because im absolutely insane and ive barely ever read short books. right now im reading His Excellency by Joseph J Ellis and i recommend it!! its only around 2-300 pages which is the shortest history book ive got VSJWBW primary sources can be really good to get in book form, things like Common Sense by Thomas Paine, Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior (Washington’s rule book), and Memoir of Lieut. Col. Tench Tilghman, Secretary and aid to Washington are all primary sources i have on my shelf that are short and sweet.

i also have Hercules Mulligan by Micheal J. Obrien which i haven’t read but is VERY small. there is also James Monroe by Gary Hart which is short but i have not finished (i dont even truly remember reading it but i annotated part of it apparently), The Drillmaster of Valley Forge by Paul Lockhart is a little longer than those others, but still isn’t chernow levels of wrong, but i also haven’t read that one. Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yaeger isn’t the most serious history book, but it is pretty good and an easy read.

as for secondary source websites, start with encyclopedias ie Britannica, which post short articles on different historical figures and events that give you the overview. from there im gonna point you to the National Park Service. this is the best thing the US government has ever made for researchers. this is all your battlefields, winter encampments, historical reproductions, and former capitals. also check out private residences turned museums, such as Mount Vernon, Monticello, and Schuyler Mansion. these institutions have an abundance of easily accessible information on more than just the people who lived there.

now the Library of Congress was a good decision on Jefferson’s part, but it can be inaccessible if you don’t know how to use it well because their website is one of my least favorite things about being alive. so instead, i recommend using Founders Online for any primary source regarding the founding fathers or amrev figures. the Washington Papers are filled to the brim with almost everything that went out of headquarters during all 8 years of the war. founders online is the shit

all of these websites i’ve mentioned are free to access, because i do not pay money on any research tools besides books out of spite for late stage capitalism. also any primary source is 100% accessible online. that includes memoirs and court transcripts, which can be very helpful

also i really do recommend watching documentaries and informational videos on the subjects you’re interested in while doing work or other things if you’re someone who does that (ik some people don’t have background noise but im just assuming you’re as neurodivergent as i am) because you can absorb just a little of that information and it being about a subject of interest can make academics seem a little less miserable!

i hope this is helpful and if you have absolutely any further questions, feel free to ask. i know im very privileged to have the time and resources to read long ass books, which is why i very freely share the information i absorb with the public bc i believe education should never be gatekept by anyone. so if you have any questions, im happy to research them for you, or at least point you in the right direction. love ya!!

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?

somebody being a least a little bit nonhuman <3 but more broadly i really like writing about human/animal dynamics, both in the nonhuman sense obviously, but also even in my daemon aus--what do humans say about animals? how much is true and how much is just something humans have put onto the animal, rather than what the animal is?

i also think i write a lot about grief, and the ways grief and trauma both can manifest in ways seen as 'unpalatable.' how youre supposed to survive these sorts of things, and how a lot of times the answer is that maybe things dont get better, but they do get different. ie i have a lot of bittersweet endings and i dont think that'll ever change.

5. What do you wish someone would ask you about [insert fic]? Answer it now!

oooh ive always hoped somebody would ask what the hell doug-nix and miranda-alphaeus would get up to after the epilogues, 'cause this never got in there (i dont think at least), but i've always had it in mind that they move out eventually! get a place of their own, which would leave minkowski, hera, jacobi, and sometimes lovelace whenever she stops by living together.

i just feel like. miranda and doug are outsiders to that crew, yeah? neither of them remember the people they once were, so. might as well try making something new and better together.

8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)?

this one is particularly topical 'cause a song is actually the inspiration for the current fic i'm writing! grand canyon by the wind and the wave. literally such a frisk and chara song, ALSO a really good roadtrip song, so ive meshed those together and now im working on a post-pacifist chara&frisk centric roadtrip fic! coming out....idk. may probably.

i also think twelve feet deep by the front bottoms could make a real fun onesided dessriel fic. something about 'i get left out of every plan they make / that is what i have to do / to be the only kid from highschool who is still in love with you' REALLY gets to me.

38. Did any of your fics get surprisingly popular (whatever that means to you)? Which ones? Why do you think they were so successful?

i think the one that surprised me the most was garden of earthly delights, which was my madoka magica daemon au. seeing as its been Forever since anything madoka has come out (plus daemon aus are Not popular anymore lol), i didnt know there was still an active fandom there, but there WAS, and all my commenters were amazing and lovely and it was so fun seeing everyone trying to uncover the mystery in real time!!! if i had to guess WHY it got popular, i think i'd guess it was the aspect of mystery...something to keep people coming back and commenting!

42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason?

the comments that always stick with me the most are the people who come to tell me that it was my fics (usually either i know im not well or alterhuman) that either helped them feel SEEN as otherkin/therian, or helped them discover that this was a thing they even could be. i think thats been one of the most rewarding things about sharing those stories. theres not a whole lot out there in the ao3 otherkin tag, yknow? and it makes me so happy to know i've been able to help people.

32) Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

i listen to SO MUCH MUSIC!!!!! it depends on what im wrting tbh but i just queue up a bunch of songs in my liked playlist and write and write until it ends or im no longer on that flow. and well my music taste is an absolute mess so there isnt any one definitive band or genre that does it for me (i only pay attention Sometimes) but i suppose artists like mitski and queen would be a decent summary of my taste 😅

50) How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

gravity falls, no stop. the first one that ever piqued my interest was versability (originally on ff.net me thinks) and god damn it HOOKED ME!!!! gravity falls was already getting me up but wow that just got me SO MUCH HIGHER. i have a few authors i started binge reading like thesnadger and pinesinthewoods, i started extracting fics from reccs from tumblr artists, soon discovered ao3, and never looked back. and as for writing fic,,,,, well frankly it was the search for the cure’s original form that got me GOING!!!! it originally had crappy ocs as the forefronters but i soon changed that lmao (im definitely not saying theyre bad in general, just those… no) and i wrote So Much For It on my notes app. i didnt realize i culd actually show people until way later, in which i did, and realized that it could actually be better. thats why i reversed back to part one, made the story a part two, scapped the ocs, and…now we’re here. i still love it and gravity falls, i dont really show it here anymore. i really should, man. i need to write for them again!!!! it still excites me!!!! and the prose that im weaving now,,,, id DEMOLISH THE GAME!!!!!!! :)

though i suppose if i had to pick one here…god its between time loop and presumed dead (and grief/moruning but idk if thats a trope so much as it is a theme). MMMMMMMM. mmmmm. just YES. the psychological affects of both being a time loop and thinking someone you love is dead but they arent actually are DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!! they are a MUST HAVE. i daydream constantly, but i havent written time loop yet because while i love it, i havent hadthe motive to write such a thing myself. reading is chill ✊ and presumed dead well i try to throw it is as much as i can, the most recent ive used being a west end town and my favorite being that one kid from jersey ! i need to do more of these fr. its just so GOOD!!!!!!

okay. its finally time for the brainwashing discussing of the fic ! i can tell you alllll about that story and it will be my pleasure sonny 🫡 its a very long story. but short verison in case you dont want to go on: its a Titanic epic . april 1912. iceberg. ive read a few that are AMAZING, but i wanted to write one that catered it allll to Me. it has lesbians, heaven sucking ass, flood parallels, and a king of the world AND draw me like one of your french girls scene. very nice 🔥

okay now its time for the long story. so a super super long time ago for a post i cant even remember (i really wanna find it 😭😭) i for someone reason went on a tangent about the titanic. i had just read this fic called sinking into the sea which was tbh VERY GOOD (and i would read it again fr fr ) but at the time, i was kinda bummed that aziraphale and crowley never actually Interacted when i had expected. aziraphale didnt even know crowley was there!!! it left me feeling melancholy, and realizing that all of the titanic fics ive ate up to that point didnt HIT hit the spot (i didnt find this after this realization, but again, theyre not even on the boat 🤧) so i was feeling a bit incomplete. i started ranting and ranting it was a wholeee wall of a text of what I would do with a titanic story and i realized oh wait i can Do Something with this because i haev free will and actual (somewhat) coherent skill. pepper jumped on the wagon, REALLY REALLY encouraged which i cant thank enough for, and….we’re here. its brewing. i had a very large interest in the titanic for a long time before this tbh, so being able to insert it into The Interest just JUMPSTARTED my brain and it still does to this day. now for the plot….

its 2020, a year after the apocalypse (no pandemic). anathema, newt, brian, crowley, and aziraphale have been assigned to plan adam’s 12th birthday party—they shenanigan, as you do. on the day of the party (adam’s birthday) anathema and newt find a chest in jasmine cottage’s attic full of titanic relics, including a pack of polaroid photos (handheld cameras did indeed exist in 1912, i checked !) which kinda might sort of have a photo of aziraphale and crowley!?!?! it was sent to them about six months before. but after the whole Second Volume fiasco, anathema just sort of wrote it off in that way and Hid It. but newt was curious, he found it, and god it was writtent his way wasnt it. (well, not by the nutter they were thinking of actually). anathema confronts them about itsoon after, and they all sit down to hear the story of the titanic in a sort of rose dawson beat. then its 1912—50ish years since the holy water incident and almost a century since the resurrectionists disaster. aziraphale has been assigned to take this trip to new york for Some Reason (we found out why later) and happened to invite crowley to come along to attempt to make amends after Allat (he really does feel bad, but he will NOT do the holy water thing yet </3) shit occurs, but history atlarge will not be rewritten. it does change their story, though. adding a sprinkle of interest in the device family line. agnes prophec(y)(ies), dancing on deck under the stars, playing cards with humans and winning by a Lot, aziraphale’s artistic skills are put to use at one point—ughghgufhits just so DEAR TO ME!!!!! and of course the conflict will come later, especially considering the religious connections to the titanic sinking—“not even God can sink this ship” type conversation 🥰 aziraphale can and will be made uncomfortable. its for the character development dont worry about it. i even have a playlist for this fic (it sorted by the way the tone shifts thru the story, some songs are silly but they had to stay). pep has also made some song covers to some of the songs that ive heavily connected to the fic and I REALLY FUCKING LIKED. the point of all this is that i like titanic fics and im trying to throw my hat in the ring even if its just for me and my friend 🔥🔥 because while others have fed me, i havent seen ones that have documented like Every Single Day on the titanic that aziraphale and crowley would theoretically have as well as developing aziraphale and crowley’s relationship while taking into account whats happened before (insert the story into a part of the timeline seamlessly i think thats how i’d describe) AS WELL AS connecting the reason why the titanic was such a freak tragedy and how the world is not fucking fair instead of just “oh whoops the thing sank 😞” i want NITTY GRITTY DETAIL!!!!!! EVER!!! call me lazy. you wrote me 27 words just now and i have written over 100k in under a year spanning over two extremely detailed multi chapter fanfictions...like? and that doesn't even include this tumblr which goes back 42 PAGES OF VERY LONG ASK MESSAGES.

most of them being extensively thought out lore and headcannons about two fictional boy best friends on a television show that is so unserious that over half of those hcs had to be crafted around straws and legitmized by hours/days/weeks/months of research by me???

because you guys send me "hi uncle nina, what is kyle's fav color?" and i could just send! it's blue <3 tysm for asking! :) but i Never answer my ask memes like that and again??? there is 42 pages of evidence to support that baby, so good luck fighting that fight! it's never just blue it's always Kyle's Favorite Color Is Blue BECAUSE and then i go on for several paragraphs about why kyle's favorite color is blue, i give you everything that i know about that subject. Everything.

like, i feel like some of the ask memes that i write are so detailed and extensive that they might be longer than one shots people are writing? this one about each boys favorite season was very labor intensive and i put it out in one day...uuuuugh!!! on the subject of one shots and actually writing? i licherally said i am still willing to do one shot requests or post pieces of things i had inspiration for? i just didn't want to promise you actual chapter updates because i didn't want to let you down??? like i specifically wanted to avoid this :(((

i'm actually writing the ask memes because i feel like it is the medium where i have the strongest chance at providing you with well written content, like, i could go back to updating but they would be rushed, poorly written and passionless. i put like...a lot of my heart into these.

and, my love, my hate, lmaooo, i could just not do that.

like, i legitimately have no reason to keep doing this.

i could delete this whole tumblr with 42 pages of content that i am sure people come back and reread because they ask me not to delete stuff and ask me where it went. i could also private both my fics on ao3 or i could delete them entirely...and it would be no sweat off my back, tbh. like i said, because my imposter syndrome is so bad and i was so stressed out writing my fics...i can't read them anymore. i am moderately embarassed by them and IF I HAD TIME...i would rewrite them. i would make them so much better...i wish i could.

because i DONT have time? i work a 7-3 job and i come home and answer these...i am exhausted and i answer these? and i do it because its fun yeah, but i do it because i care? about my work?

that's why this seriously hurts my fucking feelings and sucks? because the reason my fics stay up and the reason i answer these is because i love you very much and care about you getting the answers that you deserve and it makes me sad i can't write them better for u.

i write these answers because every single day, like, i shit you not, i got at least 8 asks yesterday about various things, you all take the time and share your hearts and minds with me. because i have angels in my ask box who write to me, who take the time to read my stuff and ask me questions about it, like...specifically rm?

which, not to toot my own horn baby, but it's a lot easier to get people to content about the regular ship in a fandom ( which is still not easy ) but i got multiple people invested in an AU FANFICTION with almost no cushion from the fandom, the only help i got/boost for exposure, is that i had clout from writing a different successful fanfic??? which i literally wrote anonymously? it was my first fanfic!!!!

but yeah, i do this because i care about y'all and i care DEEPLY about the things that i write and that they are quality. for example, oh my god just talking about this makes me depressed...when i wrote rm4 WHICH I WROTE UNDER DURESS, EXTREME DURESS, both physical and mental? which...i loved rm4. almost all of those hcs and metaphorical things in there, i was very, very proud of.

anyways, i wrote like 16k and it was taking me Too Long in my fucked up girl brain to do it on my computer and because i was excited to get that chap you'd all been waiting for out to you and because for some reason i felt Obligated to work fast because of the stress of everyone waiting for my work, i, ON MY CELLPHONE, highlighted basically every single word, all 16k of them and meticulously formatted from like 7PM at night until 6AM in the morning the next day. i had THREE monster energies and i considered buying a 5hr energy AND POURING IT INTO A MONSTER ENERGY???? that is how fucked up my mind got trying to put out my fanfics and...

during the last 100 or so words...because i was so tired, i accidentally highlighted my whole chapter, finished formatting, felt super relieved when i clicked the Save button only to realize...

every single italics was gone.

every single one...italics i'd spent hours on...every single one was gone forever. i could not retrieve it. it was lost...all that work. :( and it's kind of embarassing, but i cried for a very long time about that. like i posted this chapter that i cared about and i was...super depressed. not even because i worked hard on formatting it for hours and all through the night ( which i have done for over 12 other chapters )

...but because i realized that you guys would be reading something with no italics. that you would be reading something that was not as good as it could have been. i was sad because you were going to read something that because you are so wonderful, i was sad to send you. i was so upset, actually, about you reading something subpar that i considered...reformatting the entire thing...i....this fucking sucks.

this makes me really sad. this makes me reeeeeally fucking sad lol. like to say i don't care about all of you? to call me lazy? say this is a cop out??? like oh my GODDDD????

i am a REAL person, you guys! i fucking exist outside of this blog? people who write fanfiction do it out of love. it's a labor of love, y'all. i have a real job. i do this for zero dollars and zero cents and i do it every single day like? fanfiction authors do not owe you anything.

but...i love you? lol? that is lame but i legitimately worry abt all of you. like even you weird, mean anon? because i assume even tho you sent hate mail you did it because you love my work? maybe? because you had to be upset enough about this, or enjoy my work enough, to be sad that you aren't getting more of it? which LITERALLY YES YOU ARE LIKE!!!! YOU ARE GETTING SO MUCH!!! we could have nothing.

i am not writing anymore because of how badly it effected my mental health -- also, very cool of you to punish me for the first time i was selfish and decided to be kind to myself....in months! <3 slay! but bc i care abt my story and you guys not getting left on a cliffhanger forever and ever, i decided that i would give you everything i have.

like just that part of the ravesey hate that i wrote yesterday...that is one of four parts...of two chapters. there is easily over ten chapters left that will probably be split up like that. nevermind pep where we have at least five chapters left...and you wanted me..to write like 17 chapters??? that would take me maybe all year??? wild??? like no!!! i'm not gonna do that!!! i don't even have to do this!!!! but i want to!!!

idk...i guess i'm done now. not updating you on this blog, ofc, just with this ask message. which is not going to be the last one. i will keep updating the kind and lovely people on here who have been so wonderful to me and send me faithful, excited asks everyday. those people do not deserve to be punished because you decided you wanted to be an ahole in my askbox. i am not writing for you.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

8! 😅

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

234,699 (the fact that I'm almost at a quarter of a million words feels all kinds of crazy to me 🥹)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently and on ao3, just Outlander. I did a lot more fandom hopping in my youth and on ffnet.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

the best by far is you (Outlander, multichap, canon-divergent - what if Faith lived?)

Beside the Seaside (Outlander, multichap, 1940s au - single parents twist on seasons 1&2)

The Lost Ones (Outlander, one-shot, modern au - Jamie and Claire are neighbors and help each other through a difficult holiday season)

Holly, Ivy, Mistletoe (Outlander, one-shot, tbbfiy holiday fic)

When My Love Reaches to Me (Outlander, one-shot, modern au - follow up to The Lost Ones)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do for most of my fics! Beside the Seaside has become a little overwhelming so I don't respond to those comments at the moment.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I have to go with one of my drabble for this bc I dont usually write angsty endings for my fics, only angsty middles 😅 but I think Something to Hold Onto fits the bill for this. Though she be but 100 words, she is angsty.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

the best by far is you had a pretty happy ending, but I think Soften Every Edge will hold that title once it's finished.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

There was one person who REALLY didn't like the family separation arc in tbbfiy and trolled the comment section a few times, but that's been the only true hate I've ever received on a fic.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I hadn't ever written smut before Outlander, and I blame Jamie and Claire being the two horniest muses I've ever worked with for my forray into smut writing lol. I don't write a lot of smut, but if inspiration strikes and I feel like it adds to the story, I will usually include it.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I do not!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of 🤞🏻 Back in my ffnet days, I had someone message me about my fic that they wanted to basically copy and paste bits and pieces of it and change the characters but keep the main storyline (staying within the same fandom, mind you... and just switching characters around) and I said ummmm no?? but thank you for asking nicely?? and then watched their stories like a hawk for a few months, but to my knowledge, they respected what I said and didn't do that 😅

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I'm aware of!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I haven't and honestly I'm mystified by how people make that work. I've read a number of fics that were co-written by two people and the results are so cool.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I don't like to answer what my all-time anything is because I am indecisive 😭 but at least in terms of writing fic, I've got almost a quarter of a million words published just about Jamie and Claire, so. That answer feels obvious.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oof. I never even posted it, but in my college years, I was vibing very hard with a Smallville au, wrote several chapters, it lived rent free in my mind, and never got around to finishing it. But oh my god the Themes of it all...

16. What are your writing strengths?

Characterization and theme, I think. I feel like if I know the characters and I know what the themes are, I can cobble together some kind of story.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plotting lol. It's always the joke with fic writing that you have to write a whole story around the one random scene you envisioned, and that's how most of mine start. So figuring out the plot and pacing from there is always a struggle.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I always want to include other languages that are integral to the characters (hi, jamie fraser!), but as someone who regrettably only speaks English, I get so nervous about the fact that I rely on google translate and might get it horrendously wrong and upset someone who actually speaks the language because it's That Bad. 😅 So I usually include what I can and then use indicators when someone is speaking in another language but I'm typing it in English.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Oh god, I can't remember exactly, but I think the first fandom that I actually wrote and posted a fic for was One Tree Hill (though some of you on twitter might remember the story of 8th grade Anna turning in a chapter of her Alias fanfic for a creative writing assignment, I didn't ever end up posting that story, so that was just for me, my sister, and my 8th grade English teacher, apparently 💀)

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Oh god. I feel like it changes depending on what I'm working on, honestly. Beside the Seaside has been super self-indulgent and fun to write, but I'm having a love-hate relationship with sharing that one with an audience at the moment. Currently, my favorite one I've written/am still writing is Soften Every Edge - I'm just very pleased with how chapter 1 turned out and loving any time I get to return to that world and that family.
