lit meme: series or books [2/10] ↝ the daevabad trilogy by s.a. chakraborty
i do not believe ambitious men who say the only route to peace and prosperity lies in giving them more power—particularly when they do it with lands and people who are not theirs.

I'm starting to think Eragon has spent more time during his journey in the first book unconscious considering the number of times he's passed out at this point. Get this man some more iron in his diet or something

Dustfinger inspected his reddened fingers and felt the taut skin. “He might tell me how my story ends,” he murmured.
Meggie looked at him in astonishment. “You mean you don’t know?”
Dustfinger smiled. Meggie still didn’t particularly like his smile. It seemed to appear only to hide something else. “What’s so unusual about that, princess?’ he asked quietly. ‘Do you know how your story ends?”

I finished Crime and Punishment and really enjoyed it. I liked Raskolnikov’s mental torment and his punishment being the psychological torture as a result of his act was really good. I liked how prison wasn’t the punishment and how it gets resolved in the end. I also liked the character interactions and Sonya and Raskolnikov’s relationship is now one of my favorites in classic literature.
I’m also rereading Mrs Dalloway and not gonna lie, the first time I read it, I gave it three stars but it didn’t really click with me. It wasn’t the kind of book I was into six years ago but now…might be five stars.
Lastly, I’m kinda in the mood for classic fantasy- still haven’t gotten around to reading LoTR but I don’t really want to start a series rn so maybe a classic standalone. I’m thinking Phantastes by George Macdonald or The Well at the World’s End by William Morris.

The Dungeon Dive did this fun, short video briefly covering what I’m doing with New Edge Sword & Sorcery magazine - as well as the philosphy informing it - and my beloved Merril Collection. A great lil’ intro to both!

Having seen The Hobbit movies some years ago (and only having a fuzzy memory of them) to having now picked up the book, I think a truly faithful movie adaptation would unavoidably end up as a musical
