#faking death

Note
May I perhaps have a few reasons a character would fake their death? It's for a Creepypasta I'm writing.
It did not occur to me that there were people still writing actual Creepypastas and not just fanfiction. But it looks like you're doing both, so more power to you! I hope you have fun!
Thinking most generally to more specifically, the first reason that comes to mind is: new beginnings.
A character may want to start over in such a way that their old self can never be recovered. The death could be used as a symbolic death of who they used to be. They may not want to be the person they were anymore for some reason or another, potentially even because they saw an aspect of themself they may want to "kill."
In another case, a character may be running from something or someone. The character's previous identity would be known to this entity, which could be a problem for them for a variety of reasons including:
Safety
Consequences of previous actions
A new sense of self that does not match with the entity's preconceived notions of your character's existence (this can be a trans allegory, an "I'm not like you, Dad!" story, or a being hunted down by a scary science facility of ill repute and unknown origin story)
Very low bullshit tolerance (“You are NOT getting me into that shit again if you can't find me!”)
Faking one's death just to get away from someone scheming can be played for comedy depending on what aspects you lean into. Is this some idiot with ten thousand get rich quick schemes up their sleeves or someone more than willing to throw someone else under the bus for their own safety/gains?
Third option is they need to be dead. Your character should be dead for some reason but they aren't done living yet. This also has a variety of flavors that can be mixed and matched with previous examples!
There is something they cannot do while "alive"
Something will be stopped with their "death"
Someone very badly wanted them dead, but can be temporarily sated with this "death" so long as your character is careful
And there is also the copout answer of: they never meant to fake their death, they almost died/were nearly killed but got better and now must deal with living as legally dead.
Good luck on your Creepypasta!

The whumpee wasn’t supposed to be alive- after all the whumper had killed them in front of everyone. The team had already grieved and moved on, it had been years after all, but all of a sudden the whumpee is found deep within the whumper’s lair, completely disheveled and injured beyond what’s humanly possible, but somehow alive. A majority of the team doesn’t even believe it- surely this must be some kind of trap, right?

Irondad Prompt #102:
Tony does the “fake heart attack” prank to Peter. He does it in good fun. He does it because he thought Peter would freak out, then they’d have a good laugh, and that would be it.
But Peter absolutely breaks.
His third father figure in a row is (supposedly) gone and Tony didn’t even get to how much Peter saw him as his dad.

[What if WWX never died and JC hides him]
ChengXian | Mo Dao Zu Shi 05-08-2022
[#chengxian brainworn]
What if wwx never actually died at the siege? What if he faked his death? What if the person who confirmed his death was his precious Shidi? And no questioned it, sure that if the Yilling Laozu hadn't died the Jiang sect leader would have finished him And no one ever saw the Yilling Laozu afterward either, so he was indeed dead, right?
Right?
And then things settled in the cultivation world, wwx slowly becoming a character of warning tales, crazy stories whispered between people.
And no one noticed how seemingly unaffected Jiang Cheng was, despite being the one to end his one Shixiong. He was busy rebuilding a sect after all.
As They were rebuilding Lotus Pier, no one asked nor really noticed the small house that was being built farther in the dept of Lotus Pier, only accessible if passing by the Sect Leader's living quarters or by waterways (which had protection and traps).
Everyone simply assumed it was a more secluded house for their sect leader.
For when the man needed quiet and peace. No one was allowed there, forbidden from even simply walking the path to said house. No maid, no disciple, no even the sect leader's trusted spider could come with him.
Only jiang cheng.
If there was an urgency, they were to use a talisman that would alert him, but otherwise, no one really dared bother him when he would seclude himself in his small little house by the lake.
Little did anyone know that this wasn't really the sect leaders' secluded house.
Little did anyone know that someone else was living inside this little house on the lake.
But maybe if they knew, it would explain the quiet rumours going around the disciple of Lotus Pier.
Sightings of a silhouette draped in purple robes walking their sect leader's quarter late at night, disappearing as quickly as he would appear to people.
Some dared bring it up to their sect leader, who look more amused than anything at the young disciple who came to him, brushing off the matter. "No ghost is wandering my quarters at night" he simply assured.
after all, a friend and lover wasn't a ghost.

Heart Still Beating Part 1
Summary: Suna asks for help from unlikely ally.
Can also read it on AO3.
Suna looked at the pregnancy test that showed positive while the doctors ran extra tests to be 100% sure. It was a miracle that she had gotten away from Korhans and Kaya without either following her. The tensions in the mansion were rising with each day and now this. Suna needed a plan and fast. She couldn’t submit a baby to that kind of life.
Doctor handed her the test results with a big smile on her face. That confirmed it for Suna. She really was pregnant with Kaya’s and her child. Her arms went around her stomach, already trying to protect this child. Then an idea popped in her head. Maybe this would make Kaya hate her but he would understand in the end. Suna slipped money to the doctor, asking kindly: “Could you, please, delete all the records of me?”
“Yes, yes, of course!” exclaimed the doctor, deleting them while Suna was looking. Nobody could know about her pregnancy, especially Kaya.
“Thank you!”
Suna left the clinic, calling only person that could understand and help her in this situation.
“Please, don’t end the call. Can we meet up in the cafe by the seaside in two hours?”
Nünkhet had never expected a call from her daughter in law. They were not on the best of the terms. The woman saw Suna as an obstacle in their revenge plan. Still she was curious what this girl wanted from her. So she was sitting by the table that overlooked the sea when Suna sat right in front of her.
“Mrs. Sönmez, I want you to help me disappear from everyone's life.” Suna said confidently. There was fire burning in the younger woman's eyes. Something had changed since Nünkhet last saw her.
“And why would I help you?” asked Nünkhet, looking straight in the eyes of Suna but the woman did not back down.
“Because you are the only one who can understand and help me. I would leave Kaya to fulfill your plan of revenge. I am a distraction for him and if he gets to know this, it will be even worse.” Suna slipped the test results to Nünkhet. The older woman looked at the paper in front of her. Suna was expecting a child, her first grandbaby. “Now you know why I need to disappear. I don’t want to give birth here where anyone could hurt our baby, or use us against Kaya in this war you are raging on. Now you know why you are the only one who would understand. We both want to protect our loved ones.”
“He is gonna hate you and me, if we do this. But I do understand you.”
“He may hate us at the start, but he will understand in the end. When all this revenge ends, you can tell him where to find us.”
“How do you want to do this?”
“I want you to kill Suna Şanli and be reborn as Suna Sönmez, who lives in London.”
“You’re tougher than I gave you credit for, my child. Why do you want to keep our family name? Wouldn’t they find you that way easily?”
“First of all, they think we hate each other and think I would never ask for your help. Secondly, they won’t be looking for me. You and I will make sure of it. They already don’t believe I am in a happy marriage with my husband.”
“You put a lot of trust in me.”
“As I said, we both want to protect our loved ones and we both want revenge to be served.”
“Then you have a deal, Suna Sönmez.” said Nünkhet, reaching out to shake her daughter in law's hand. Suna reached out and gave a proper squeez to it.
“One last thing I want to ask from you, mother, I can see you are determined like you are on the last 100 meters of a marathon, but, please, hold on for your first grandchild. I want you to see them being born. You deserve to see the next generation of Sönmez.”
That made both women tear up. Nünkhet got up  and gave a hug to this woman. She was worth the family name for sure. Kaya has chosen wisely, even if his choice was made so quickly.
“Wait for my call in a few days.” With that, the older woman released Suna from a hug and left the cafe. Suna sat back down by the table, wiping away the tears. Hormones are already getting the best of her. But her plan was in motion. Now she just needed to play her role well for the last few days of this life she had been living.
*****
This year has been rough on Kaya in both physical and emotional sense. He lost both women he held in high regard in his life - his wife and his mother. His mothers still stung because it was so fresh and that he was kept in the dark about her worsening state. Still he granted her biggest wish of hers before dying - to see the Korhan family business burning down, bringing the whole family down with it. It was his biggest wish after his wife's death. They were the reason why Kaya lost Suna in such a freak accident, and then Halis prompting him to marry someone else just two months after Suna’s death. It was like someone had flickered on a lighter and put it to wire that leads to explosives.
“What am I even doing here?” Kaya asked himself, looking at the apartment building where the Sönmez family's old London flat was. Before Nünkhet had taken her last breath she had given him this letter. He still had it in his hand, holding onto it like a lifeline. The letter contained the address and just We’re sorry for causing you so much pain. Be free and happy now.
It confused Kaya to no end. How can he be happy without people that he loves? Still he got to the right floor, just staring at the doors till he finally rang the bell. It was quieter than he had remembered.
“I am coming, I am coming!” called out a familiar voice. No, it could not be. She was dead. “Feray, I didn’t expect you to be back so soon.”
There in the now open doors of the flat stood Suna. She looked better than he remembered. Happiness radiating from her in a way it never did in the mansion. In shock Kaya reached out to touch her face, putting the palm of his hand on her cheek. He had to make sure he was not hallucinating. Suna nuzzled up in it. She was warm and real, but how? He had seen the body, he had seen the DNA results, he had the ring of hers that he carries with him.
“How?” Kaya asked, while his brain tried to dig up some answers. How was his wife alive and well in London?
“Come inside. I will answer all your questions.” answered Suna, taking his hand and leading him inside the flat. It had a lighter and warmer aura there than he remembered. “Do you want coffee?”
It seemed to flicker up anger in Kaya. Suna was being so casual about returning from the dead that it irritated him. He backed her up to the wall, bracketing her in by his arms. She didn’t show any sign of fear. Kaya had never hurt her and she knew she could trust him still, even in his anger. He was breathing ruggedly like he had run. Suna understood the shock he was going through.
“You made me think that you are dead for more than nine months. You made me go through so much grief. I didn't even have anyone to turn to when my mother died. What excuses are you going to use, Suna? What even can excuse you for breaking the promise we gave each other? ANSWER ME!” he spoke angrily, even punching the wall near her head. This time he could see her flinch for a bit.
“I had to protect them.” answered Suna, looking at the door of the room that once was Nünkhets. This now was the nursery for their twins - Emre and Elvan. Two most important people in Sunas life. “You can be angry with me. You can even hate me but I think you will understand me one day.”
“Who is this “them” you are talking about?” asked Kaya, but the babies feeling their mothers distress and their fathers shouting started to cry. The man looked first at the door where the cries were coming from and then back at Suna.
“Suna!”
Kaya was so confused, putting out his anger. Why was there a baby or more than one crying in the flat? Suna slipped out from the bracket that Kaya made. She knew that he would follow her. Right now, she had to calm down their children. Suna was moving quickly in the nursery and had the twin calming down in no time. They didn’t seem to want to nap anymore, just looking around.
“Everyday I told them that their dad would soon come to us.” softly spoke Suna, looking at shocked Kaya who was standing in the door frame. It all was too much for Kaya. Before Suna could move, Kaya had dropped down on his knees, tears filled his eyes.
“KAYA!” exclaimed the woman, herself dropping on the knees in front of the man she loves. She pulled him closer to have him wrapping his arms around her. It reminded her a bit of his first breakdown that she noticed. Then they too were on their knees, hugging each other close.
“Did you want to keep them from me forever?”
“No, Kaya, I would never do that to you. I had to protect myself and them while you and your mother were on this revenge road.”
“I would have protected all of you. I would have kept you safe.”
“Would you be able to do what you had to do for revenge, if we were there?”
Kaya shook his head in a negative answer. He would have been vulnerable. Korhans would have used that against him.
“You had to finish that family for your mom and for our future. Could you imagine living a life constantly needing to look over your shoulder? I know I hurt you badly and the trust between us has been destroyed but that was all done for a longer game.”
Kaya wanted to understand what Suna was saying but hurt and betrayal was too fresh. “Kaya, don’t hate your mother. She helped me as another mother. She took great care of us.”
Suna got out her phone, showing Kaya pictures of his mom with their children. She had been in the hospital when they were born.
“Did you ever want to reach out to me?”
Suna took Kaya’s face between her hands, so he would look her in the eyes. She needed him to see what she felt through her eyes. He looked straight at her and she started to speak: “Everyday, I wanted to reach out. Everyday since the death of Suna Şanli, part of me has been in pain because I put you through all this. I just knew your love for me would be an obstacle for the nightmare to end. Hardest was the last months when I was pregnant. I needed you so much, I needed you to hug me and tell me all will be alright. I needed your soft kisses. I needed you to make me laugh. Your mom was here, and that had to be enough.”
Kaya listened intently, trying to take in all this information. Suna had wanted to reach out. She had wanted him there but the evil people in their lives had kept them apart. She knew that Kaya loved her, but most importantly he was a father.
“Can I hold them?”
“Of course, Kaya. They are ours. But I will need you to wash your hands before you hold them?”
“Yeah, yeah!”
Kaya got off the floor, leaving for the bathroom. He washed his hands and splashed some cold water on his face. His life suddenly had taken a 180 degree turn. His wife was alive and he was a father of twins. Just a few hours ago he was ready to give up on life when the universe threw all this on him. Kaya took a deep breath. He was ready to face the world.
By the time Kaya returned to the nursery, Suna had lifted Elvan out of the crib.
“You can sit in the rocking chair. I will put Elvan in your arms first. Emre here needs to have his lunch. That will allow you two to bond and then I will switch them. After feeding you can hold both of them. I think all that working out needs to be put to the test.”
Suna giggled, carefully putting their baby girl in the arms of her father. Kaya didn’t even notice Suna slipping out of the room with Emre. He was mesmerized by the cuteness of his daughter. She was a beautiful baby, having her mothers nose and his eye color. Elvan seemed to admire him back. Kaya used one finger to run down his baby's cheek. Elvan reached with her chubby hand and caught his finger. Kaya chuckled softly but his daughter was too fascinated with his finger and now used her other hand to grab it even more.
“Time for a swap.” said Suna, already in action of exchanging babies in Kayas arms. Emre wasn’t as aware as Elvan had been but he seemed as content as his sister to be in the arms of this man. Emre gave one look at his father with the same dark eyes that Suna has and then closed them because it was time for a post feeding nap for him. Kaya hummed the lullaby that his mom had sung to him when she was in the right mindset.
Suna returned with Elvan who seemed ready for her nap, too, in the arms of her father. Suna put the other baby on the other arm of Kaya. She could only have dreamed about sight like that. She took her phone and snapped some pictures for the albums of both kids. Their first picture with their dad. Also Kaya also seemed to be more content like being here had taken off the haunted look on his face.
“You’re natural, but wait till you have to change the diapers.”
“I think I can manage and surprise you.” Kaya said, looking up at Suna who stood by the door. This way giving the kids and their father time to bond. “Do you have space for another person in the flat?”
“Of course, Kaya! I am staying in the guest room because it is closer to the nursery.”
“You should have used my room. It is bigger.”
“We did use it.” mentioned Suna, soft blush covering her cheeks. Kaya raised an eyebrow in a question. “Each time I opened the doors, it smelled like you. When my kids and I were stressed out, we went there to lay in bed and breathe in the smell. It seemed to do the trick for all three of us.”
Suna traced away the tear. Kaya was now here. They had a lot to talk about, a lot to work through but he was there with them finally. She had missed him everyday as she had told him before. All these months were torture but this moment was so bittersweet. So Suna jumped to tell Kaya all about the things she had made to keep him up with pregnancy and their growth in these three months: “I made videos, took photos. There is also my pregnancy diary and scrapbooks for each of the children. All there for when you are ready to look at them. I just don’t want to overwhelm you.”
“Why are you standing so far from us?”
“I am allowing you to enjoy this bonding moment. I have had my fair share of those. You have three months to catch up on those.”
“I would love to bond with my wife, too.” declared Kaya with a sincere look on his face. “I thought I would be forever alone after your funeral, Suna. I just couldn’t imagine another woman with me. You poisoned me for all the other ones. Once again when I think everything is dreadful, you come into my life to make me the happiest man in the world.”
Suna had sat down on the floor that was covered in lush carpet by Kayas leg. She couldn’t handle what she was telling her. Too many emotions were coursing through her. Kaya was showing more trust to her than she deserved but she will take it. Suna supported her head on the thigh of her husband. “I hope you can trust me one day again, Kaya.”
“Let’s not talk about it right now, Suna. Just enjoy this moment of calmness. Your plan worked out. I am here, you and the twins are healthy and happy. We are all together now.”
So Suna did as Kaya told her, closing eyes and just breathing in the smell of collagen that Kaya used.
At this moment, Kaya understood what his mother meant by the words in the letter. He was free from her illness that had always impacted his life, he was free from Korhans who had driven his mother to her illness, he was free to live the life he had always wanted. Finally free of all the chains that had held his spirit in pain. Happy about his kids, happy about his wife being alive, happy that he had more than he expected to have in life and most importantly happy to be alive next to his family.

When characters fake their own death in fiction, it’s not uncommon for them to attend their own funeral.  When done in a dramatic “their former self is now dead to the world and they will have to live the rest of their life knowing they have inflicted tremendous grief on their loved ones” sense, a lot of the weight is in 1. the “dead” character reckoning with their decision to fake their death as they see, before their very own eyes, the aforementioned tremendous grief of their loved ones, and 2. the dramatic irony of you, the viewer, being the only other narrative presence in the scene sharing the burden of the knowledge that the character’s not dead, because, you know, it’s not like anyone else attending the funeral is like, telepathic or anything.
Now, I’m not saying this could or should happen, but I’m just saying, you know, purely as a hypothetical, if, as his exit plan, Loid—

New Law
There should be a law that you can fake your death if you still pay your debts and taxes.
Like I'll still pay off my car just let Will think that I died.
Come to think of it this would probably need some kind of system for it so that could help make new jobs.

I am requesting assistance from the medical experts of Tumblr!
How would a person fake their death? Specifically, how would a person fake their death in the presence of an experienced detective who knows them well?
This person in particular is pretending to have been bludgeoned with a rock (faking injuries is not a problem). They need to fake their death in a way that looks like it was caused by rock bludgeoning, as mentioned above will fool a detective, and will allow them to choke out some mysterious last words before tragically dying in the arms of said detective.
I was thinking along the lines of something that slows their heart rate but allows them to stay conscious so they can hold their breath, but I know next to nothing of this field so I'm welcoming any input.
Thank you!

If only Machete wasn't so distinctly white and waifish. Otherwise one could possibly use a lookalike to fake his death and just run away with vasco. But finding someone that resembles machete would be almost as hard as making the choice to end a life to save your own.

[The ghost of jiujiu's seclusion house, feat. XianCheng (w.i.p)]
Junior Quartet | Mo Dao Zu Shi 11-08-2022
[#jinling, secrets, the ghost of Jiujiu's seclusion house]
Growing up, Jin Ling was always allowed to go pretty much everywhere in lotus pier. The only really restricted area where if it was too dangerous to be alone, but even then, if someone was with him it was okay.
It was the same for his jiujiu's quarters. He could go there without any problems, jiujiu more than happy to let him go there.
Yet there was still one place he was not allowed to go to.
jiujiu had a "seclusion house" (this is what the other jiang disciple called it) and no one was allowed there, not even a-ling!!
He had asked his jiujiu what was there, but was only told this was his private room and that jiujiu simply wanted no one there.
He sometimes sees his uncle go to the house, stay there for a little while and then come back. a-ling was really curious as to what he was doing there for such a short amount of time.
But he did notice that often when jiujiu was back from his little house farther in the land of lotus pier, he looked calmer and relaxed. Was there something that helped his jiujiu relax? a-ling was very curious about it, but he was also scared that jiujiu would be mad at him if he went there without his permission. Maybe jiujiu would then ban him from going to his quarter!?
Then one night, when he was woken up by a nightmare, he went to his jiujiu's room. He was surprised when he saw the door open, ready to call out to his uncle, only to freeze.
a tall man loosely draped in purple robes exited his jiujiu's room, lazily fixing his lapels. The man seemed as surprised as him when he noticed him,  offering him a smirk as he closed the doors behind him, lifting a finger to his lips to ask him to keep quiet.
a-ling only nodded, frowning a little as he tried to remember if he had ever seen this man before. Yet his young mind couldn't figure out who it was and he hadn't heard about his jiujiu having visitors today.
Then he saw the man make his way towards the path leading to his jiujiu's secluded house and he couldn't help be worried a little bit.
"Mister!" he said, taking quick steps to get closer so he wouldn't yell. Thankfully he didn't need to talk too loudly, as the older man turned around after hearing him.
"You can't go there, this is his jiujiu's secluded house, no one is allowed there," he said, anxiously glancing back towards his jiujiu's room.
he was shocked when the man simply laughed at his words, offering him another smile.
"Don't worry, I have your jiujiu's permission to go over there" he replied with a wink, resuming his walk towards the depth of the land.
a-ling lingered there for a moment, unsure if it was really okay. but he assumed if this man was coming from his jiujiu's room he must have been a friend of his, so maybe he did have his permission.
He instead made his way to his uncle's room, opening the door to slip in. jiujiu seemed a bit surprised to suddenly see him, before looking up at the door with a little frown.
"A-ling had a nightmare," he said, watching his uncle's expression soften. He quickly finished rearranging his night robe, gesturing for him to come to him.
he told his jiujiu about his nightmare, letting the man reassure him.
a-ling didn't dare mention the man, as jiujiu also didn't ask about it despite him arriving pretty much exactly when the man was going out.
Then as a-ling was growing older, he started hearing about the rumours of there being a ghost in his jiujiu's quarter, which made him pale a little bit. Was the man he had seen that night a ghost haunting his jiujiu? But if so, wouldn't his jiujiu have already taken care of it? So it couldn't be a bad one if it was, right?
Then one day, as he was waiting for his jiujiu's quarter for him to come back from some business in a nearby village he heard something.
The faint sound of music comes from the forbidden path.
He hesitated for a moment, but years of accumulating wonders made him get up, quickly making his way to the entry of the path. He chewed on his lips as he look at it, before turning to Fairy.
"I want you to wait for me here," he said, "And warn me if someone is coming this way, then hide until I arrive" he ordered. he received a bark of understanding.
He quickly made his way down the path, soon getting to an area of the path that was surrounded by water tree, blocking him from view.
the further he went, the clearer the sound was and he realised someone was playing the flute. this only made him more curious.
He quickly found the secluded house, a bit bigger than he thought it would be.
He quietly made his way around, a bit surprised to find a boat tied to a small deck. He had never seen anyone pass here before.
He rounded the corner and then he found the source of the sound.
the same man he had seen in the past was sitting on the windowsill, playing his flute peacefully. Although, the tune soon stopped as the man opened his eyes again, gaze quickly landing on him.
The man smiled again upon seeing him, looking somewhat relieved.
"Well, look who's disobeying his jiujiu's orders" the man teased him, making jl blush a little bit as it was true. "You've grown quite a lot since the last time we met".
"I-it's been 2 years and a half, of course, I grew up" the boy pouted, making the man laugh.
"Are you the ghost haunting my jiujiu?" he then asked, making the man laugh again. "I am being serious!".
"Sorry, sorry, I just heard him mention it and didn't think it was really true" the man chuckled.
"But I am no ghost" the man lazily grinned, "just an old friend from your jiujiu living in this house he was generous to give him" the man replied, a hand showing the inside.
jl took a careful step closer, looking inside.
While the outside of the house looked peaceful and elegant, the inside was messy and chaotic.
Art pieces, scrolls, talismans, art tools and other trinkets were everywhere in the room. The only really clean area seemed to be a low table to eat and have tea.
There were also weird contraptions in a corner, as if the man had been trying to build something.
This only man him more curious. Who was this man?
"Sorry, I guess it is a bit messy, your jiujiu often scold me about that" laughed the man.

Palpatine: My boy, Master Kenobi is lying to you!
Anakin: ?...yeah? He does that? Lying is Obi-Wan's favourite sport. Bant told me that he was dropped on his head by Master Qui-Gon when he was a child and Master Qui-Gon was really tall, so the fall shook loose some things in his brain and now Obi-Wan is allergic to giving straight answers. It took me 3 years to figure out his favourite colour. and his birthday. 5 to figure out that he's allergic to shellfish. I once told a restaurant that Obi-Wan can't have shrimp and he told me to "stop giving information to the enemy". I've made a game of it really.
Palpatine: *muttering under his breath* ok try using shrimp next time
Anakin: what?
Palpatine: Nothing!
