Fates Reexploration Part 2: Down the (rabbit) hole

And we are back folks. This one is a bit on the shorter side, since not too much happens, but I am already pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy this.

I absolutely love this shot of the Nohrian capital. You can immediately tell so much about this place. Perfect mood setter and extension of the lore found in this game. You look at this and know immediately that it’s not a very pleasant place to live. The castle is literally dug into the ground, while shaped like a colliseum. 

Man, I really wish 3 Houses had done this with the capitals. Would have helped make the cultures feel more distinct. Imagine Deirdriu giving everyone Venice vibes, Enbarr being full of ancient buildings and bombastic architecture, Fhirdiad covered in glittery snow... Ah, what a shame.

Fun fact! Garon is voiced in Japanese by Akio Ohtsuka, the same guy who voices Ansem (and a lot of his various knock offs) in Kingdom Hearts. So every time one of his voice clips plays, all I hear is “KINGUDOMU HAATSU YO” 

This is kinda interesting. He says “... Us royalty, as those who have inherited the blood of the ancient gods, the “Divine Ancestral Dragons”, are the descendants of gods.” (he says gods a lot in this), which is interesting in that it subtly refers to the Nohrians (and Hoshidans) not being actualy related to dragons, but rather just having received their blood ages ago. (like what happens in that one Hydra/Anankos dlc)

The English didn’t use that and only made a vague statement about having the dragons’ strength after the initial “We are their descendants etc.), which isn’t quite such a neat nod.

“The Demonic Sword Ganglari... It’s a blade hiding magic from another world” 

This isn’t a translation note (it’s mostly the same in English). I just never noticed Touma being hinted at this early.

I do like how this scene builds up the sheer grip Garon has on everyone invovled here. They simply cannot afford to defy him and it takes a huge amount of drama and deception to get out of this situation. This especially nicely contrasts with Xander being the confident older brother before this, whereas now he is almost helpless.

Another one of Leon’s more common expressions. まったく (mattaku), essentially a (formalish) expression of exasperation (usually). Miyano really is good at making him sound so annoyed and done with everything. 

That ナイス at the end is Elise literally saying the English word “Nice.” in katakana. Elise uses English loan words occasionally to make her dialogue sound more peppy and carefree.

Anyway, yeah that’s about it for today. I hope I have more to talk about next time. Maybe I’ll start merging chapters together until I get to the route split.

KARASUNO FIRST YEARS - Friendship

This is something I have been thinking about a lot lately. I simply love the hc in which the four boys are extremely protective with Yachi, so I HAD TO write about it.

The image is not mine, I found it on Pinterest and I have no idea where it comes from, but I love it!

I am sorry about any possible grammatical error, English isn’t my first language so it is a bit difficult for me to write such long things on my phone.

Warnings: mhhh not much, there is swearing and mention of sex, but this isn’t a smut fiction.

Story: Karasuno first years being good friends for Yachi when she struggles to deal with love.

Yachi Hitoka was the sweetest cinnamon roll of all Karasuno. She was shy, but extremely determined, she was hardworking and passionate, and she was incredibly cute. Not that anyone, besides the few people who actually spoke to her (mainly the volleyball team), had noticed.

This went for the first year of high school. But it changed as soon as her body started showing stronger hints that Yachi Hitoka wasn’t a baby anymore but she was, in fact, a woman, and a beautiful one.

Maybe it was because of the sudden interest of the whole school for the volleyball team after their admirable performance at the nationals the previous year, together with Kyoko’s absence; or maybe it was just because Yachi Hitoka didn’t develop only two sizes on her chest, but also more self-confidence. Anyway, in the second year of High School at Karasuno, Yachi became pretty popular and she found herself a boyfriend. A pretty good one! He wasn’t a volleyball player, “Thank God!” she always thought. She loved her friends and she loved volleyball: but she wasn’t sure that she would have liked to date one of her teammates. The “Karasuno First Years”, which were now second years, and now were her closest friends, didn’t particularly like or dislike this guy. He was totally insignificant, according to them.

Yachi wanted her boyfriend to meet the “volleyball guys” she was so attached to, mostly because he looked a little bit jealous and she was determined to show him that they were cool guys, and that they didn’t have any hidden intentions towards her. So she organized a group date with the boys in one of their free days.

“I mean, he’s not that bad...” Hinata said to his teammates at the end of the date, once Yachi had been far from them, holding that insignificant guy’s hand.

“Yeah, it’s just... I don’t know, I feel like he’s not that great either.” Yamaguchi added, with a frown on his face.

“Oi! Dumbasses.” Kageyama punched Hinata on his head, just because. “Yachi looked happy. This should be the most important thing, right? Didn’t you see how she was smiling?”

Tsukishima shrugged “As Our Majesty said, our friends’ happiness comes first: it’s not like WE have to date that guy. If she likes him, I guess he is ok.”

“But.” Kageyama intervened once more “Yachi is too sweet and naive sometimes.”

“That’s why she has us.” Hinata replied seriously. “We’ll watch her back.”

The fun thing was that none of them has ever had a relationship before, so they were basically observing Yachi’s one without really being aware of what was happening. Their only goal was to be sure that this boring normal guy made Yachi Hitoka happy. And he did! He did it for almost... three weeks. Yeah, after 18 days since they start dating, Yachi Hitoka skipped practice for the first time. And it was a pretty incredible event, since she has alway been serious about her responsibilities as a manager.

The “Four-first-years-which-were-actually-now-second-years” immediatly noticed her absence, reporting it to the third years and causing a great mess in the gym. Takeda Sensei and Coach Ukai spent a good 20 minutes trying to convinge Kageyama and Hinata that skipping one practice wasn’t such a big deal, that Yachi was fine and that surely had a good reason to skip practice that day. Capitain Ennoshita had to physically stop Tanaka and Nishinoya from “going to look for their adorable kohai in need of her amazing senpais”.

“Stop!” Ennoshita Chikara’s voice roamed through the gym to gain the attention of his teammates. “Chill guys, Yachi messaged me yesterday to ask if she could skip practice today. Apparently she has a date. So please, PLEASE, let’s just start the practice without any further drama.”

Yamaguchi decided to text her quickly: he would have properly talked to her after practice. It was ok to stop and rest sometimes, but she should have told them. Especially because she was ditching them because of a date! Yamaguchi was the closest to Hitoka, and he felt pretty cut out at the moment.

The following day, Yachi Hitoka looked a little bit distracted during lunch. She met the four volleyball players at their spot behind the gym, greeting them with her usual smile, but she didn’t partecipate to the conversation. The boys didn’t push her, and eventually she blurted out what clearly has been bothering her all day.

“Uhm guys...” she started with uncertainty in her voice. The boys reverted their attention to her. “We are friends, right?”

“Of course, Yachi-chan!” Was the immediate reply of the energetic orange head. Nods of agreement from the other three followed his statement.

“A-and you are boys.” Continued the blond manager, a light shade of pink coloring her cheeks.

“Yeah, I am pretty sure about that.” Tsukishima replied with a smirk.

“Uhm, yeah of course... so I was wondering, ehm f-for a boy, how much is sex important in a relationship?”

The question left the four boys totally flustered and embarrassed. Kageyama almost spit his milk, chocking on it. Hinata’s face became redder than Nekoma’s uniform, in contrast to Yamaguchi’s which was now paler than snow. Tsukishima maintained his usual unexpressive face, but his eyes widened for a second, before replying calmly to the girl.

“I mean, it sure would be a pretty important part of a relationship of course. Why are you asking?”

Yachi Hitoka wasn’t feeling very comfortable talking about her love life, especially with four teenage boys equally inexperienced as herself in the matter. But she needed an outsider opinion, and those guys were her closest friends at the moment, so she gained all her courage and kept going.

“Yesterday afternoon I skipped practice, because I had a study date with Yuki.”

“D-did you two...?” Started Yamaguchi. “I mean uhm...” the boy was sweating like crazy.

“Woah nice kill Yachi-kun!” Exclaimed Hinata, earning a punch from a very flustered Kageyama. “Shut the fuck up Dumbass.”

Yachi’s face almost exploded. “NONONONONO, you misunderstood!” She quickly corrected her friend.

“So what was the meaning of your question?” Tsukishima was revealing an outside calm that didn’t reflect at all the strong discomfort he was feeling inside.

“Well, we were at my house and... Yuki-kun kissed me. It wasn’t the first time we kissed of course, but he kind of pushed it a little bit.”

“Oh, you made out.” Commented Yamaguchi. “Did you felt uncomfortable?”

“No, no. It didn’t feel uncomfortable until he tried to... push for more.”

Everybody went deadly silent.

“Did he do something to you?” A very serious and angry Kageyama asked.

“No, I told him to stop, that I wasn’t ready for anything more than making out on my bed with our shirts off and... he kind of got angry and stormed away.” She concluded, avoiding every eye-contact.

“Maybe he just went to... hum you know... jerk off?” Hinata guessed embarrassed, making the group even more uncomfortable than before.

“Eww!” Disgust was Yachi Hitoka’s first reaction, which caused the tension within the group to fade in a collective laugh, before she could continue “Ehm sorry, I mean, I don’t know what was in his mind. I haven’t heard from him since yesterday. I tried to message him, and even call him. He is avoiding me.”

“It is pretty rude of him. Running away and ghost you just because of a boner doesn’t seem to me a normal behaviour.” Commented bluntly Kageyama.

“That’s why I am asking you!” Yachi Hitoka was clearly irritate.

“Every guy is different Yachi-chan.” Hinata smiled at her. “Just look at Bakayama: he so grumpy and scary all the time.” He said flattening his hair in a bad imitation of the setter.

“Boke!” Was the only imput from Kageyama.

“And the Beanpole?” Hinata was going on. “He is so damn annoying and bad at receives.”

“What the fuck do my receives have to do with this?” Tsukishima wasn’t particularly happy with Hinata’s examples.

“And don’t get me started with Yamaguchi!”

“Ok Hinata, I guess you proved your point. You’re all different.” Yachi stopped him before he could insult the next Capitain of Karasuno.

“I guess I’ll have to corner him at school and talk to him face to face: there must be a reason for his behaviour.” She concluded.

“Sounds like a plan. And feel free to share his reasons.” Stated Yamaguci with a deadly glint in his eyes.

“Yeah, for... reserch purpose.” Concluded Tsukishima with a dangerous smirk.

That day, Yachi Hitoka left from practice a little earlier than usual, in order to find her boyfriend and force him to talk with her. Yuki Tachibana was a member of the football team of Karasuno, whose club room was right next to the volleyball gym. Luckily his practice ended at the same time as the volleyball one.

“Yuki-kun!” She called him as soon as he set foot outside the club room, together with some of his teammates.

“Oh. Yachi-san.” He greeted her coldly with a monotone voice.

“I-I would like to talk with you, about yesterday.” She stuttered.

“Why?”

“Because you run away and didn’t talk to me since then.”

“And whose fault is that?” He stated angrily.

“What do you mean?” Yachi felt her own voice tremble.

“I mean that in almost 3 weeks you didn’t even show me your boobs. I can’t keep jerking off in the shower: what’s the point on having a girlfriend if I can’t even fuck her whenever I want to?” He was shouting now, and there were a very thin possibility that the whole football team together with the volleyball one hadn’t hear everything.

“Keep your voice down, people will hear our couple problems!” She started panicking.

“Don’t worry: we won’t be having any more couple problems. You’re really hot, but you’re not the only one in the school. I will find someone else to fuck.” And with that he turned around and walked away.

At least he tried to, because during his embarrassing talk, he didn’t notice the four shadows which were towering behind him. As soon as he turned around his face went straight against Kageyama’s chest.

Yachi Hitoka herself was kind of shocked when she found the bravery to lift her gaze and look at her four friends scarying the poor football player with their deathly glares. The ones which Capitain Ennoshita had instructed them to use only on the court. When Tsukishima opened his mouth, probably to spit some venomous words in Yuki Tachibana’s face, Yachi bursted into laughter.

“It’s ok, guys, seriously. I am fine. I am very happy that he dumped me, or I would have waste other precious time with him. I am not sorry, Tachibana-kun, that I am not your ideal girl, but I hope that you’ll find someone who will mean something for you outside the bed.” She kept smiling while she talked, despite the sting at the back of her eyes.

When finally Tachibana went away, Yachi Hitoka let herself cry for a little bit. Not because she was in love with the guy, they have been together for less than a month and she has known him for barely two months! She was crying because she felt overwhelmed. That boy was only interested in her body, and he basically dumped her because of the lack of sexual life in their relationship in front of a lot of people. That was indeed a shitty situation.

For the four boys, being in the precence of a crying Yachi Hitoka was extremely stressful and difficult, mostly because none of them had any idea of how to deal with a girl crying. Of course, Hinata has seen Natsu crying but se was still 7 years old! It was pretty sure that letting her hold her favourite pluche while watching Frozen wouldn’t have worked with Yachi. Last time that Kageyama saw his older sister cry was at his grandphader’s funeral, and this was definitely a different situation. Tsukishima was still working on dealing with his own emotional sphere and it was clearly too early to deal with someone else’s. Yamaguchi didn’t have a clue about what he could do for Yachi, so he thought ‘What would Sugawara-senpai do?’

Immediately, he rushed to the little sobbing girl, cleaning her face with a tissue and awkwardly patting her head with a smile. Catching up with Yamaguchi’s plan, all the boys thought about what their senpais would have done in that occasion.

‘What would Bokuto-san do?’ Thought Hinata, before engulfing Yachi in a bones-breaking hug.

‘What would Oikawa-senpai do?’ Thought Kageyama. Oikawa senpai would have worked harder and harder, but he didn’t think this could be useful in this situation. Oikawa-senpai would have also done something else actually. “If you want, I can beat him up, and hit him ‘till it breaks.” Declared the setter.

At this point Yachi Hitoka had alreay stopped crying and was actually struggling for not laughing in Kageyama’s face. “Thank you Kageyama-kun, but I don’t think this will be necessary.”

Tsukishima’s mind was completely blank. Who the fuck was someone he saw as a senpai? Akiteru-nii? Nah, they were far too different from each other and they weren’t that close anymore. When finally he understood who his most influential senpai was, he almost threw up. “Chibi-chan.” He started. Kuroo-senpai’s pet names usually angered him, but he thought that Yachi could have liked it. “Don’t worry too much about him, he was an asshole anyway. You have us, and we care about you, we always will. C’mon let’s get you a pork bun.” He stated wrapping her fragile figure up in his oversize black sweater.

“Wow Tsukki, since when have you been like this?” Yamaguchi asked him.

Tsukishima smirked, turned towards them and opened his arms before stating: “What do you mean? I’ve always been this kind! What’s wrong with being nice?”

Haijima Kimichika was an idiot. No, his grades overall weren’t that bad. He was slightly above middling for his third semester finals. However, Kuroba was dumbfounded when he saw the breakdown of that “slightly above middling.”

In regards to math and social studies, he was well above the average, and in fact, he was at the top of the class in his grade. Math, ninety-five. Social studies, ninety-nine—that was the first time he ever saw ninety-nine on an exam paper. He was taken aback by the brilliance of the two 9’s next to each other.

But, things didn’t look good from there. Science, seventy-three. English, sixty. His marks around here were so normal that it made you wonder what his high marks in math and social studies were. Apparently, his strong areas were unusually inclined towards calculation and memorization.  

Japanese,

Thirty points.

…They really were unusually inclined.

“Ooh, there’s a whole row of x’s here. What a nice view.”

It was a question about close reading a novel. The answers to “What are the emotional states of the characters”-type questions were continuously absurd, and the way the x’s were written was becoming increasingly desperate, as if to represent his Japanese teacher’s emotional state.

“For the question ‘Please answer in eighty words or less why you think the king forgives Melos,’ you answered, ‘Melos was naked      the cow,’. I can see the signs of suffering from trying to write a little more, but not being able to write a sentence and getting frustrated. …Cow?”

“Shut up. You’re always joking about people’s exam answers.”

“Ow ow ow!”

Kuroba groaned as he fell prostrate on the exam papers spread out between his legs with a weight pressed tightly against his back. The other club members laughed at the two stretching as a pair.

“You shouldn’t laugh at other people, Yuni. You got forty-two in math and fifty-five in social studies.”

“Hey, don’t read it aloud. This is an invasion of privacy.”

“Japanese…oh? Eighty-seven. Not bad.”

“For real?”

His back lightened with Haijima’s upset-sounding voice. He lifted his body with a self-satisfied look that said “Fufufu. Japanese is the only thing this guy’s good at,” but Haijima, who snatched and returned Kuroba’s Japanese exam paper, once again pressed down on his back tightly with his entire upper body while staring at his answers with a slightly displeased look on his face. Kuroba grumbled “Ow ow ow” while facing the floor in an open-legged forward bending position.

“Why did you answer the cow question like this? I don’t get it at all.”

“First, let go of the cow…I think the first issue is that no cows appear in the story. I’m getting worried about whether or not you can get into high school.”

He briefly wondered if one could get into school through a volleyball recommendation, but even if one could, it didn’t matter because there was no chance of their weak club reaching the point where they could get noticed in a big tournament. If Haijima was in his previous middle school, recommendations might come, however—he hadn’t asked Haijima himself, but there was no doubt that he had been in a fairly strong volleyball club with a decent coach. He had no idea what a full-scale stretching regimen was until he started practicing with Haijima. Next, Kuroba laid on his back as Haijima took his legs and thoroughly stretched them.

I thought that since Haijima would have nothing left if you took volleyball away from him, it would be his greatest desire to go to a strong volleyball school, but…

Haijima Kimichika was a volleyball fanatic.

The ban on club activities, which had been suspended a week before finals, had been lifted, and they held a practice day at once. With people turning up once they knew it was active, the boys’ volleyball team, which used to be as good as non-existent, had more or less taken on the appearance of club activities recently. With just barely six people, they still haven’t been in a match yet.

It was when they stood up and stretched their backs after finishing their brief stretching session.

“Kuroba, how tall are you now?”

Haijima said while looking up at his hair whorl.

“Hmm? Didn’t I say I was one-seventy-three?”

“When did you measure that?”

“Um…in fall, I think…November?”

He tamped down his hair whorl, but his bed hair bobbed back up. He felt depressed when he wondered if he had been exposing this hair to people all day since morning.

There was a scale on the door frame of the gym equipment room that could be used to measure height, and was used to compare heights for fun during club activities and gym class. It was probably the work of students from decades ago. It was the culmination of very precise work, with each millimeter being carved out from one-fifty to one-eighty centimeters with a utility knife.

“One-seventy-five-point-zero.”

Putting an empty powdered drink box to the top of Kuroba’s head, Haijima read the scale out loud.

“Ooh, I grew two centimeters?”

“My turn.”

They exchanged places and now it was Haijima with his back to the scale.

“Don’t raise your heels. Um, one-seventy-two-point…seven.”

“Ah. I grew too.”

But, Haijima didn’t seem too happy about it. With a sullen face, he left the scale and grumbled “Two centimeters off.”

“Two-point-three centimeters off. Don’t round it down. You’re a setter, so you don’t have to be so worried about your height, right?”

“I have a favorite player. It’s Abe, who was selected for the national team. He’s a setter, but he’s one-ninety-one. Even for setters, the bigger you are, the better you block and the faster you set. And, Abe’s ambidextrous, and he has a good left dump.”

“Huh? That reminds me, do you also…”

Haijima served with his left hand. But which hand did he hit with outside of those times...he didn’t have a clear impression. He felt like he recalled him hitting with his left and with his right.

“Use both hands?”

“I do,” He said carelessly, but was that something so easy to do? “There’s still an eighteen-centimeter difference, huh… But Abe can’t hit jump serves, so once my height catches up, I’ll be better.”

When it came to the subject of volleyball, Haijima became more talkative than usual. The way he spoke was basically like cutting short the front part of the context and throwing away the back end, but he came to be able to speak fairly long lines in a polite manner. He must love it a lot, he thought in half amazement and half admiration.

“I’m not sure if you have way too much confidence in yourself or is just an idiot…but I never thought you’d compare yourself to a member of the national team.”

He forced a smile, and got glared at with resentful eyes. He got scared, wondering if he said something that made him angry. He still wasn’t very good at knowing what set Haijima off.

“Kuroba, at the practice game, you see blocks and differentiate between hitting the ball cross and straight, right?”

“Cross-court and straight…oh, straight is where you hit the ball right down the middle, and cross is where you twist a little and hit it outside.”

“It’s the other way around, dumbass.”

He had answered with hand gestures while tilting his head to the side in confusion, but was completely denied with an insult.

“A cross is a spike that passes through the court at an angle. A straight is a spike that goes straight and parallel to the sidelines. When you’re hitting on the front row, you tend to step towards the center in front of the net a lot, so if you hit it straight on, it becomes a cross, and if you hit it with the intention to twist it outside, it will be straight.”

“So complicated…”

“It’s not that complicated, but…oh well. I’ll teach you step by step.”

He thought “Teach me?” every time, but why was he naturally acting like he was above him?

“Even if you don’t understand it with your head, you have good eyes, so you can deal with blocks. Being able to naturally rotate your trunk midair, the length of your time in the air, the suppleness of your shoulders…those are qualities you’ve probably always had. You will get good. It’ll be in no time if you do it properly. You’ll be taller, too.”

“…? Do you have a fever?”

He stared at Haijima’s face suspiciously and got a suspicious look in return.

“What. Did I say something weird?”

“No, it’s just that you’re always so self-important, so I thought you were someone who wouldn’t praise or acknowledge people in that way.”

“If there’s something to acknowledge, then of course I’m gonna acknowledge it. But, there’s no way to acknowledge what’s not there.”

Haijima stated, pouting and seeming truly upset.

Haijima never flattered. He wasn’t humble. He couldn’t hold himself back. Indeed, he might be sincere and straightforward in a sense. …But, he thought it was probably a tough way to live. Most people didn’t want to be told the truth right to their faces.

“You will get good.”

Afterwards, slowly but steadily, a ticklish feeling welled up in the depths of his body. It was uncool to take someone at their word, so he purposely looked indifferent and said,

“I have a talent for volleyball, huh. It won’t make me all that popular though.”

He feigned ignorance and talked big. Unlike Haijima, he felt like he had been drifting through life frivolously, with a bunch of façades lined up in front of him, obscuring reality.

The days have become longer, and the chill had subsided considerably. It was now often possible to sneak peeks at patches of blue in the sky which had been covered by depressing snow-laden clouds in midwinter. The sun had completely set when he nearly ran over Haijima in front of that karaoke box in February, but by mid-March, there was still some faint light left in the sky at that same time of day. A rusty copper sunset fringed the ridgelines of Mount Nokude in the distance.

Since their houses were in the same direction, he ended up going home with Haijima on days they had club activities. Their enamel bags, slung over their shoulders, rattled, and they tread on the rugged road in their snow boots. Although the snow on the road melted during the day and was close to becoming sherbet, it had begun to freeze again in the shape of punched-through car ruts and footprints. During the snowfall season from December to March, elementary and middle school students were prohibited from cycling to school, so it took forty minutes to get there on foot. There was no doubt that they would starve before they reached home, so the two stuffed their cheeks with sweet bread as they walked. Incidentally, he stuffed himself with two pieces of bread before club and of course he was going to eat dinner when he got home. At any rate, he was hungry. And at any rate, he was sleepy.

Until one or two months ago, he would have wanted to skip over middle school and become a high school student as soon as possible, but come to think of it, he had stopped thinking about that recently. He had no time to think about superfluous things because after he finished club activities, went home, ate, and took a bath, he immediately went to bed. He fell asleep feeling like he was sinking into the floor with his futon, and then when he woke up, it was next morning.

Finals were over, and now it was time to neglect everything and go into spring break. And whether he left it alone or made a fuss, once the break ended, he would become a third-year. The word examinee still didn’t really strike home for him.

“Haijima, what are you gonna do for high school? Are you taking it here?”

He finally broached the subject that actually wanted to ask him about during club, but hesitated over.

“Well, I was thinking of taking it here, but…”

He got stuck on how Haijima trailed off at the end of his sentence, which was unusual for him.

“But? Is there a condition or something?”

He once again asked Haijima’s profile, which was bulged out with the bread he stuffed in his mouth. He wasn’t wearing his glasses right now. Haijima always followed the procedure of putting in contact lenses and taping his hands before club started. If he taped first, he wouldn’t be able to handle his contacts. When club activities were finished, he followed that procedure in reverse, but there were days when he went home as he was, perhaps because he couldn’t be bothered. From the point of view of Kuroba, whose vision had never fell below 20/20 and whose fingernails and bones seemed healthy and strong, he had a difficult constitution.

“More importantly, new first-years will come in April.”

“Hmm? Oh yeah. Skilled guys would get picked up by the other clubs, so it’s better not to get your hopes up, but maybe we can get one or two people.” More importantly? He had a feeling he was changing the subject, but the timing to repeat the question escaped him.

“If we get more members, I wanna go to a tournament. I don’t know the tournament schedule here, but there should be a prefectural tournament before the summer inter-school.”

“Tournament, huh. But even if we can be in it, I don’t think we can win at our level…”

“It’s no fun if you don’t play a game. I wanna be in a match. I’m gonna train you all to be presentable enough by summer. I’ll take care of the rest.” Once again, he said that he was gonna train us without hesitation. Is he treating us like performing monkeys or something?

Ah, there it was. The sparkle in his eyes like that of a dinosaur-loving elementary schooler. Though he was just being arrogant and saying something self-centered, when he had that look in his eyes, he couldn’t help but feel that it was as though it was being secretly switched with something of pure purpose. Kuroba realized that he couldn’t oppose those eyes at all.

“Ooookay, got it. We need an advisor to be in a tournament or it’s no good, right? Let’s ask tomorrow.”

When he said that with a sigh, a crude voice called out to them from the side of the road.

“Hey, isn’t that the head house’s bon walking there?” (1)

It came from in front of the signboard of the aforementioned “Karaoke Box Monshiro”. Was this the only place to hang out? Well, it probably was. There were three men. Two 125cc motorbikes and one moped. Each of them was sitting astride their seats and hanging their butts on their tandem grips, smoking cigarettes as they tucked their chins inside their collars of their jackets, looking cold. They had the appearances of what countryside delinquents should be.

“Oh, Yori-chan!”

Kuroba called out to him with a smile, but Yorimichi only took a glance at his appearance and looked away.

The other two were Yorimichi’s senpais, both from the neighborhood. When someone other than his relatives called him the “head house’s bon”, it was probably filled with ridicule, but since he was used to it, he didn’t react to it every single time, and Kuroba greeted them in a friendly manner as well.

“’Sup. It’s been a while. I didn’t know you guys are back.”

“It’s spring break in uni too. Bon, how much you got today?”

“Oh…I only have some coins. I’ve been doing club activities lately so there’s a lot of times when I’d be leaving my bag alone.”

“’Club activities’?”

The two repeated it with a rising inflection that contained laughter.

“Oh, is that what Yorimichi was talking about?”

Smirking, they eyed Kuroba from the top of his head to his feet. He uncomfortably let his gaze escape to Haijima, who was waiting next to him. When he looked at Haijima, he could see his own appearance like he was looking into a mirror, or rather, he was just copying Haijima, but—he was wearing a knee-length padded coat over his jersey with his rectangular enamel sports bag slung over his shoulder, and he really did look like he was coming back from a sports club. In regards to the padded coat, Kuroba saw Haijima’s and also bought one recently.

“You do receives or something, how did that go again? We didn’t do it in gym in high school, so I completely forgot.”

The two had mean smiles on their faces, pointing their chins. Either the smoke of their cigarettes or the whiteness of their breath from the cold made their stubbled mouths misty.

“Um, it’s like this, I guess…?”

Kuroba had no choice but to drop his hips on the spot and did the posture for an underhand pass, and the two cackled and applauded.

“Wow, looking pretty good, aren’t you? I know, it’s that thing, Attack No.1, right?”

“That old manga? It’s that ‘I won’t cry, I’m just a girl’ thing, right?” (2)

“The heroine spoke in dialect. Gyahahaha!” (3)

“Haha…”

When Kuroba forced a smile while feeling his face turning hot, his bag was suddenly pulled on. The strap was biting into the pit of his stomach. “Gueh,” he groaned as he turned around.

“Haijima?”

“You’re just getting looked down on. We’re not playing around.  Don’t keep them company.”

Like he was pulling on the leash of a not particularly disciplined dog, Haijima primly started walking while gripping the strap. “Okay, okay, don’t pull me. It’s dan…” Right when he twisted his body around and rushed to follow him,

“You’re hanging out with us, right, Yuni?”

Yorimichi called out to his back.

Haijima turned around, not even trying to hide his annoyance. Kuroba also followed his gaze while feeling lost. Turning away and smoking his cigarette, Yorimichi snorted sarcastically.

“Don’t tell me you’re getting’ influenced by Fighting Spirit Chika-chan, are ya? You’re the one who’s gonna be embarrassed later.”

“Hey…oh, hey Yori-chan, are you mad at me? Sorry for not hanging out with you lately. We’ll do stuff together during spring break.”

“Kuroba, we’re practicing during spring break too.”

Haijima’s dissatisfied sounding voice pierced the back of his ear. “We can’t practice everyday, right?” When he turned around with a half-smile, his face seemed to say, As a matter of fact, of course we are. “If we’re going to the summer tournament, we’ll still never make it in time even with that.” “Are you serious…” He was of course ready to have fun and relax during spring break, so when he was told to be prepared to completely spend that time on club activities… I underestimated this guy’s volleyball obsession.

“Yuuuuni. You understand, right? It’s no good for you. It’d be less embarrassing if you stop playing around. I ain’t patient either, so I can’t wait too long for you.”

“Hey, even Yori-chan’s being mean? You’re not serious, right?”

He looked at Yorimichi again with a twitching smile. “Oh, you’re pretty popular, Bon. If you pick one, you have to cut off the other. This is a real mess.” The two university students irresponsibly jeered and aggravated the situation.

“You, you get it, right? I have the same blood in my veins as you, so we get fired up and cooled off easily.  I’ll probably get bored halfway, right?”

He ended up prioritizing putting Yorimichi in a good mood with a joking tone. A cold sweat ran down the nape of his neck as he felt Haijima’s burning gaze scorching it.

He knew that he was playing it safe. He was still afraid now that Yorimichi would throw him away. He wanted to secure the warm place he could always return to if things got tough. Don’t put me together with you, he grumbled in his mind. Haijima, who didn’t have an ounce of doubt about himself doing volleyball, probably wouldn’t understand, but for us until just now, guys who went hardcore for club activities were just something to be watched from a distance and gawked at.

Yorimichi bared his teeth and grinned.

“Haha, that’s right. You’re the same as me.”

Relieved, Kuroba also slackened his cheeks.

And, the heat wave of Haijima’s gaze that was burning the back of his neck also abruptly disappeared. The strap was released to send him flying.

“Then quit now.”

Haijima said it bluntly in a cold voice, a complete reversal from the heat of earlier.

“Hey, no need to go that far…”

“I don’t want to the tournament to get messed up.”

“Messed up…”

He immediately guessed that he was talking about scandals that would result in a suspension. Kuroba himself didn’t smoke or drink, but he overlooked Yorimichi doing it. It wasn’t illegal to ride double on a bike, but having only one helmet was probably not allowed. It wasn’t a good look to sneak into karaoke bars either. He didn’t really care about it until now, but it was somewhat understandable that school sports were sensitive to those kinds of issues.

Haijima’s concern was reasonable, and perhaps this was where he should be sorry. But on the contrary, antagonism reared its head. So, from the beginning, he wasn’t worried about whether or not Kuroba would continue to do volleyball or not, but about that?

“You showed your true colors, eh!”

Yorimichi’s loud voice suddenly rang out. Haijima glared suspiciously at him and Kuroba was also confused. Peeling his lips back in a vicious grin that made him draw back a little, Yorimichi continued to speak in a theatrical way.

“The infamous ‘Genius Setter’ of Meisei Middle School only thinks about satisfying his own desires, right?”

“Yori-chan? What are you talking about?”

“You were the one who wanted to know, Yuni. You asked why he came back here. That’s why I investigated.”

Haijima’s sharp gaze immediately moved to Kuroba. He did voice his doubts, but he thought the conversation ended there, so to think that Yorimichi would investigate it…

“Oops, you’re barking up the wrong tree if you’re blaming Yuni. It’s that ‘you reap what you sow’ kind of thing, right?”

Yorimichi came down from his bike and stepped on his cigarette to put it out. He thrust his hands into the pockets of his down jacket and approached him with bowlegs and swinging shoulders, looking particularly vulgar. “Move, Yuni,” he said, pushing Kuroba aside and standing before Haijima.

“I could have easily gotten the name of your school from your grandpa through mine. Well, I used Itoko though, since I’ve been given up on by Gramps. So when I quickly searched the net…oh look, there’s slander of the ‘Genius Setter’ who reigned over Meisei Middle until last year. The net sure is terrifyin’. Everything’s on there. Well, I guess it means you’re not liked very much.”

The more Yorimichi talked, the stiffer Haijima’s expression became. The color disappeared from Haijima’s face that seemed to embody the world’s arrogance and fearlessness, and his gaze dropped downwards. The shadow of Yorimichi, who was a size bigger in height and width, hung over the head of Haijima, who was looking down and biting his lower lip. “Oi oi, look at the poor guy, Yorimichi. Don’t bully middle schoolers. You’ll make him cry.” The two university students saying insincere things were completely taking the role of spectators.

“Yuni.”

“Huh? Y-yeah.”

Kuroba reflexively responded, unable to catch up with the conversation very well. Yorimichi’s face changed from that of someone tormenting a dying animal, and when he turned around, he was no longer smiling. It was an extremely serious expression.

“I don’t have anything against Chika, but I don’t really care. I think it’s petty to talk about other people behind their backs online. It’s all for you. Don’t get too absorbed in it. After all there was apparently someone who attempted suicide because of this guy——”

An instant later, Haijima barked something that couldn’t be expressed in words and grabbed Yorimichi. “Oh?” Although Yorimichi staggered a little, their physiques and amount of fight experiences were different. He grabbed Haijima’s face and thrust it aside, just like he was grabbing a ball—a dodgeball instead of a volleyball—with one hand and throwing it violently. Haijima was lightly blown off two or three meters away, the side of his face crashing into the muddy snow-covered road.

Because it was the first time he heard Haijima’s enraged voice, Kuroba was temporarily distracted by that. He hurriedly broke into Yorimichi’s path.

“Yo-Yori-chan, stop! Violence is no good!”

“He was the one who charged at me. Ah, it’d be no good for a sports boy to be violent, right? Didn’t you say that yourself? I’m being kind by ending it with just knocking him down.”

Yorimichi threw mocking jeers at Haijima over Kuroba’s shoulder. Kuroba turned around and ran up to Haijima, who was crouching and holding his hand to his face. “Oi, you’re alive…” he knelt down and was about to touch his shoulder, but what Yorimichi said flashed across his mind and he stopped his hand.

…Attempted suicide…?

“Let’s go back. My ass is frozen.”

Urging the two university students, Yorimichi returned to his bike.

“Yuni, get over here.”

Summoned, Kuroba looked up at the chin of Yorimichi, who was sitting astride his bike, but hesitated and returned his gaze to Haijima. His earlobe, which was poking out from the gaps between his hair, were terrifyingly white. No way, is he actually dead? He thought, but he saw a fist clenching the snow underneath his face pressed against the ground. Mud soaked into his white taping and stained it brown.

He couldn’t leave him here and go home.

“Even if you say go home, you won’t let me ride double anyways. I’ll send him home, okay?”

“Well, whatever.”

Yorimichi backed down easily with just a shrug of his shoulders. The sneering had already disappeared and he returned to his normal self.

“Don’t forget. Wash your hands of him as soon as possible. From his reaction, it doesn’t seem like those are groundless rumors. Be careful on your way home. I’m talking about the snowy roads and your teammate next to you.”

Perhaps Yorimichi also felt that he went a bit too far. He awkwardly turned his face away, made his engine roar its usual crude and vulgar sounds, and departed on the Komashi-gou.

“Mei from zayuu no mei and makoto, Meisei. (4) It’s called Meisei Private Academy Middle School. It’s a middle and high school in one, and their sports clubs are pretty strong. Apparently the distribution map of famous private schools is common knowledge among Kanto kids. You can’t really experience it here, can you? There aren’t enough schools to choose from. Hey, everyone’s gonna hang out in the city after the end-of term ceremony, so do you wanna come with us? I wonder if Haijima would come if we invited him. You guys have been getting along well lately.”

“Um, oh, yeah. If that’s all I can ask then I’m good for now. Thanks.”

He hung up first because it seemed like the conversation would never end if he left it alone.

Itoko said “Everyone”, so the group probably included girls. To tell the truth, he was really jealous of this merry spring break-like event. Normally he wouldn’t be able to refuse. But, it was only today that he couldn’t get into the mood at all. He was willing to bet that Haijima would never come either.

He put the phone handset next to the desk and turned towards the computer again. Since he had an agreement to not own a cell phone until high school, the only place he could access the Internet at home was the laptop in his dad’s study. When he tried to convert Meisei-chuu (5), he realized he didn’t know the kanji for it, and since Yorimichi said he learned it by way of Itoko, he called to ask her directly. Based on the current feeling, Yorimichi had really only gotten the school name, and it seemed he didn’t tell Itoko more than that. He felt relieved about that.

A school with a strong athletic department. If this school was that famous, then it might not be strange for there to be a rumor or two to float around the Internet. After all, there was even a message board titled “[Monshiro Town] Old Man Kuroba [Yokai]”—Yorimichi thought it was hilarious and told him about it, but Kuroba never searched for it because he was scared of learning the contents.

“Tokyo meisei academy middle school boys volleyball club attempted suicide”

He entered the search words, and just when he was about to click the search button, his finger stopped. He couldn’t easily press the key. Of course he was unbearably curious. But, he was afraid to find out the contents for that more than Grandpa’s message board.

“Yuni? Where are you?”

His mother’s voice came from somewhere on the other side of the sliding screen door. He twisted himself around on the tatami chair and raised his voice.

“In here! The study!”

“Why are you there? Aren’t you going to take a bath?”

“Okay!”

After thinking about it a little bit, he ended up pressing the backspace key to delete everything he typed in. Once he did so, he completely gave up, closed the computer and stood up.

The most important Names to understand this Masterlist:

Hybrid: Dog Hybrid Shapeshifter, they’re able to shift their usually human form into a dog.

Vixen: Half-Hybrid. One parent is a hybrid, the other parents is a human. They’re not able to shift their shape, but they’re able to get “Hybrid pups” (fully formed hybrids) together with an other hybrid.

Human: …just a normal human. xD

Kei couldn't breathe due to their proximity. The weather didn't help either, as their breaths produced little clouds. This was stupid. He was cold. This game, Hinata suggested, was stupid. Why were they playing it again? And why outside?

"Okay, ready? Three, two, one, go!"

Kei and Kageyama were standing toe to toe, their noses nearly touching. The goal was to push the other away and cause the other to stumble. Kageyama held Kei's gaze without wavering. This close, Kei could see just how deep the setter's eyes were. Like an ocean, steady and calm. Kageyama was also staring, Kei's golden eyes a sight of their own. The two boys seemed to have forgotten their surroundings as they stared into each other's eyes. Hinata shouted go again and Kei pushed Kageyama, causing him to fall. The setter was too distracted because he couldn't believe what had crossed his mind as he stared at Kei.

Your heavy breathing echoed in the hallway as you made your way up the stairs. So many things had gone wrong today that you were simply craving for a nap on the sofa. Or whatever furniture was ready to make you rest on it. 

For weeks you had planned out this specific Thursday; over and over again. Actually you wanted to be home early to prepare dinner for your husband and to set up a movie night with him. All of this effort was meant to make him happy, because this day had a special meaning.

Today you had been married to him for a year. 365 days ago you were announced Akaashi Keiji’s wife.

In your imagination the car should not have broken down in the morning. You should not have had to replace a colleague, which had caused you to stay at work for two more hours. Actually you should not have to climb up these stairs freezing because it had started to snow on your way back home.

To sum it up, instead of feeling all lovey dovey and head over heels, you were on the verge of tears thanks to your disappointment in yourself. 

But the worst part had been to send a text to Keiji to inform him about your cancelled plans since you wouldn’t make it home in time. We might have to order pizza to have something for dinner. - How could you even dare to fail that horribly on your anniversary? Your anniversary of all things?!

Finally you had reached the fourth floor and made your way to the door, which you definitely didn’t want to go through. Only the thought of your husband trying to cheer you up after this rough day resulted in you feeling sick. You had planned to comfort him this evening to say thank you for the past year, not the other way around.

Searching for your keys in your bag, you didn’t notice the pink sticky note at the door until you were standing right in front of it. Without having a second look at it you immediately recognised the handwriting and pulled the paper off carefully.

Welcome back, sunshine!

Three words made you love this man even more. Not letting go of the note you opened the door with your other hand to enter the apartment afterwards. As soon as you had closed it again, you wanted to place the keys at its usual place - A little bowl, that stood on the shelf next to you. 

But again your movements were stopped from an item that wasn’t supposed to be there. You found another note, which had been written by your husband.

I admire how organised and responsible you are.

Okay, now he had gotten you to the point where your heart nearly stopped beating. Moreover you had reached a mood, that could only be described as a combination of absolute overwhelmingness and endless love for the one you called your husband.

„Keiji? Where are you?“, you spoke into the seemingly empty rooms. But since you had spotted his shoes next to the door, you knew that he must have been home. You just couldn’t find him.

Making your way through your apartment, from the kitchen to the bathroom to the bedroom, you were able to collect a lot of new post-its with different notes written on them.

Do you know what I’m most grateful for in life? Your existence.

Even the worst day turns into a good one after seeing you smile.

I couldn’t have wished for a better wife because you are perfect.

Every single one of them made the butterflies fly in your stomach and you felt like the high school girl that had just been confessed to from her crush. Akaashi Keiji, third year at Fukuroudani, setter and captain of the volleyball club. 

Compared to that day in your last year of high school, your beloved one hadn’t changed a lot. He always caught you, if you fell - Physically and mentally. You could call him in the middle of the night and he would talk to you for hours just to make you feel better. 

But he still wasn’t very skilled when it came to expressing his feelings verbally. Written words were more his kind of thing, that ended up in you having at least a dozen of love letters hidden in an empty shoe box in your wardrobe.

The last room you hadn’t checked happened to be the living room, only god knows why. Maybe the closed door had confused you earlier because it normally was open all the time. Suspicious. Placing one hand at the door knob you slowly opened it.

„Keiji, are you in he-“

Before you could finish your sentence, you were flashed by the sight inside of the room. If you didn’t know it better, you would swear that someone had teleported you into a romance movie. Candles on the table, roses everywhere and some very fluffy looking blankets placed on the sofa. 

And your significant other was standing right in between. With open arms to welcome you: „Happy anniversary, (Y/N). I love you.“ You couldn’t hold back anymore and you only sunk into his hug. A comfortable warmth embraced your body as you heard his heart beating in his chest a little faster than usual.

„I love you, Keiji. I love you so much. Thank you and-“, you started to answer after loosening your grip a bit. Yet again you had to stop in the middle of talking because a thought flashed through your mind: „Hold on! I’ll be back in a second!“

Off you were, leaving your quite confused husband behind, just to arrive completely out of breath a little later. In your hands you held one of the most important things you owned because it was filled with hundreds of memories.

„This is for you.“ You handed him what you were carrying, finally presenting a smile on your face. Pressing a kiss on his cheek, you whispered: „Happy anniversary, Keiji.“

Meanwhile your husband couldn’t tell whether it were the candles or your presence that made him feel hot right now. Having a look at your gift for him, he wasn’t able to hold back a smile of his own. 

It was a picture book and from what he could see on first sight, it contained a lot of pictures from the past years. You even named the album with the title „The Story of Us“. 

The day had definitely started differently than expected, but the time you spent sitting on the couch together and having a look at the photos immediately made up for it. In the end you were able to laugh about the fact that the two of you really ordered pizza as their anniversary dinner.

Only a few minutes were left until midnight, certainly you both wouldn’t notice the start of the next day because you had fallen asleep. Sleeping safe and sound you were snuggled into his chest, while he had pulled you close with his right arm, resting his head on yours.

Still laying in his lap was the self-made picture book, whose last page had been reached. This time revealing your handwriting instead of his, it said: To be continued.

okay time for me to ramble about how much i love bts and how much those seven boys mean to me (this is actually a whole 2,390 word fucking essay so you can probably ignore this lmao):

for starters i want to talk about their talent. they have worked so hard as trainees and since their 2013 debut, and a lot of people seem to think they’re overrated. they have worked their asses off to get where they are today and they are always setting new records (or the army is for streams and shit) and doing things never done before when it comes to kpop. members like jin, who started off as a bighit actor with no singing/dancing talent - his vocal coach (and anyone who had heard his vocals from 2013 to now) says that instead of improving, that he’s completely transformed after probable years of staying up until 3am practicing. this is also shown with hoseok, who was meant to be a vocalist and main dancer but instead a rapper and main dancer - he worked hard (with the help of yoongi and namjoon) to learn HOW to rap, and again, if you compare cypher pt 1 to cypher pt 4, there’s a massive improvement in his rap. all of the members work so hard and have natural talent and i just- they deserve to be where they are today. 

i also want to mention each of the members and what they’ve taught me.

starting with worldwide handsome kim seokjin, he’s taught me that hard work and perseverance will get you where you want to go in life. like i said, his vocals have completely transformed and he can sing notes higher than the sky [see his crystal snow triple high note, it gives me chills everytime], and his vocals have become so stable now while performing and i am proud of him. in his wings album solo, awake, he also expresses how he feels that he isn’t as talented as his other six members, and i can relate to this - i also feel inadequate compared to nearly everyone else around me. the bridge also makes me cry a little bit because it’s just- holy shit man. he’s also like the mum of bts, despite his love of cracking dad jokes whenever he can. 

min yoongi, my ultimate bias. he is someone i look up to and aspire to be. yoongi is an incredible producer, lyricist, and rapper, and i could go on and on about his skills. he also works incredibly hard making music and his rapping is no joke, especially in cypher pt 2, 3, and his mixtape are brilliant. more than this, he talks about his struggles with anxiety (social) and depression, and especially his mixtape song the last - a lot of his songs on the mixtape have amazing lyrics, and specific instances of something happening that was incredibly personal to him. despite struggling with his issues, he has kept going, and when i ever get down, i think of how he has learned to love himself, and that i am capable of this too. also i think i relate to him most on a lot of levels - he’s the tired grandpa of the group, but can be silly and fun when he’s with hoseok. he has a hard time showing how much he cares for the others and isn’t as touchy as the other members tend to be, but he still does show he cares in subtle ways and i also can relate to this, because i often have no fucking clue as to how i should express my emotions. he looks like someone that could beat the shit out of you but is actually a big ol’ softie on the inside and he constantly says shit that makes me go “wow, same.” going back to his rap again, yoongi can rap fucking fast, but still can put so much energy behind his verses while doing it - he often builds up, he will go off and rap so fucking fast you question whether this man has lungs, and then go back - all the while you can tell he puts his entire being into his rap, if that makes sense. he also has a wide range - he can go from a kind of harsh, fast rap to a slower, smooth one (compare his verse of cypher pt 2 to seesaw - though seesaw does have his great vocals in it too, the change in his voice is remarkable). 

your hope, your angel, j-hope. jung hoseok is an insanely talented dancer and rapper, and like the other members works so hard. his rapping, like i said, has improved over the years and he’s incredible now. his dancing has always been amazing to look at, because unlike jimin, who was also a dancer pre-debut, he did a lot of hip-hop based dance and he can express literally all of his emotions in his movements which i think is incredible. his vocals are also amazing and bighit needs to give him more vocal lines (like in blood, sweat and tears. that shit gets me every time). he is definitely the member who bias wrecks me a lot and i love his sunshine attitude. he’s a ball of joy and an angel (but also his fancam for that no more dream dance break does actually murder me) and his random outbursts and the fact he is also such a meme makes him lovable too. he’s taught me that i should always have a positive attitude to life and that it makes other people feel good too. hoseok has this effect on the other members (i believe it is referred to as ‘mood setter’ or something?), especially yoongi, where the other members may feel down but hoseok just has to be his extra self and they start smiling - like, yoongi will go from being tired and grumpy. place him in a room with hoseok? they’ll be goofs together and it’s the cutest shit (okay this is supposed to only be about hoseok but i do love me some sope content and i’m gonna go on about them here for a little bit longer). yoongi and hoseok are my two ult biases out of the various groups i listen to, because the two together create this chaotic energy and i love it - see the sope me behind the scenes duet bangtan bomb on youtube. those two are so chaotic in that video. 

the kim namjoon himself. he’s the leader, rapper, and also produces/writes songs for bts. he’s also fluent in english due to watching friends, yet again he has an iq of 148 so he can do pretty much anything. namjoon is the glue that holds bts together - he does a good job of it, too, with sorting out solutions to disagreements and comforting the members when they need it most. if seokjin is the mum of bts, namjoon is the dad. namjoon has taught me that it is important we learn to love ourselves. his two mixtapes are different, particularly with the overall sound and tone of each mixtape - rm has a very hip-hop/rap sound, and is quite aggressive, while mono. is calming and very relaxed and reflective. i listen to rm when i’m feeling aggressive, and mono. when i need to relax or calm down (it is one of three things that helps me relax before going to sleep and also good to listen to after i’ve had a panic attack or something). i feel a particular connection with moonchild, from mono. the message namjoon portrays throughout the song is something with a calming sound, but also something that offers some encouragement to me when i need it, especially the chorus: “moonchild, you shine, when moon rise, it’s your time/moonchild, don’t cry, when moon rise, it’s your time” 

park jimin. his high vocals are incredible and his high notes also give me goosebumps. he has a beautiful dance style that is unlike hoseok’s, as it is more contemporary/ballet focused and his movements reflect this. he has gone through hating his looks and becoming anorexic because of this, and i think that he is doing so much better now (i am talking him not eating a full, proper meal for upwards of ten days). he’s still quite self critical, and hates whenever he makes a small mistake, but i think that he puts so much work into making sure his performance is always perfect that he doesn’t always take care of himself, and that’s what i have learned from jimin - take proper care of yourself, and you should never have to hate your appearance because others develop high expectations for you. again, he works so hard to make sure he has a perfect performance every time and i commend him for this, but also he tends to overwork himself a lot and i’d love for him to take a week off at some point where he can just relax a bit more. he definitely deserves it. 

kim taehyung. i think of the whole vocal line, his vocals are my favourite. he has a wide vocal range, going from notes lower than my not achieved grades to notes higher than the sky (stigma and singularity are great examples of this) - i can also actually sing his parts as i have a lower range and when i can sing a few lines with taehyung, i always feel good. like yoongi, tae can change and influence his rapping “voice”, taehyung can do a similar thing - he can be low and smooth with some high notes, and then suddenly he goes raspy and it’s fantastic (again, singularity vs war of hormone). the other three vocalsists can make their voices rough and raspy, but taehyung i think does it especially well, and it suits his incredibly low notes. despite his low voice, he’s actually got the personality and mental age of a child 99% of the time and to see him on and off stage is certainly interesting lmao. i would also like to add that he too is quite the meme (gucci boy) and he looks really good in a bandana/headband and i need more of that content in my daily life. taehyung was also behind the meaning of the army phrase “i purple you”, which means “i love/cherish/support you”, and whenever someone says that to me, i always feel great for the rest of the day. taehyung has taught me that bts do genuinely love us all and that as long as we support them, they will support us, and the shared love between bts and army. 

the golden maknae, jeon jungkook. jungkook’s vocals are great, and in all honesty i do miss and go back to bts’ older music purely for the reason of seeing this young lad as one, a fetus, and two, to hear him rap. he’s good at pretty much anything he tries, having a black belt in taekwondo and various other things, and he’s currently working hard to study and learn english so that namjoon isn’t the only fluent english speaker in the group. honestly i find the concept of namjoon helping jungkook with english wholesome and it brings a smile to my face. despite jungkook being thrown into fame at a young age, he’s stayed humble and a happy person and i think it goes to show that fame won’t always screw someone up if they have the right people around them. jungkook had six older boys who practically raised him from when he became a trainee (which he must have been 12-13 when he became a trainee) and they taught him well. i’ve learned that from jungkook - by surrounding myself with the right people (though he wasn’t willingly technically, i’m grateful he did have the boys there for him and i couldn’t see anyone else in the group), i can remain what is most important in life - staying happy and humble. 

bts has taught me several lessons in life, and i think that a lot of people dismiss them because they’re korean, because they’re overrated, because their music isn’t in english. what they seem to fail to understand is that emotion transcends languages, and that multilingual people do exist who translate lyrics for those who wouldn’t understand the entire song. even then, if you listen to the truth untold without english (or your native language) lyrics, you can still feel the sad vibes of the song. likewise if you listen to something like anpanman - you will feel the more positive energy and hype that the song conveys without the lyrics. a lot of people don’t want to listen to kpop because they might not understand what the songs are saying right away, but if you take your time and find music with messages you find inspiring and that impact you, it shouldn’t always matter what language the song is sung in, as long as you have a translated version that you can read and understand the basic message of the song. a lot of people wonder why bts has become so popular, and not just for their golden visuals, or their talent, but also the message they spread, especially with their love yourself album series - and it’s easy to see why after that. self love is something that many, many people struggle with and once people understand this message, people like bts because of this. people will listen to music that may not be in a language they speak because once they have seen/read the lyrics to the song in question, if the message stays with them, they will remember the message when they listen to the song, and just the association of the song and the message is enough for people to feel comfort from it. i am like this with magic shop - it is a song made specifically for the army, and about how we can take comfort in them when we are in pain/struggling/etc. the thought of this message enough while listening to the song makes me smile (and cry too lmao).

Kei couldn't breathe due to their proximity. The weather didn't help either, as their breaths produced little clouds. This was stupid. He was cold. This game, Hinata suggested, was stupid. Why were they playing it again? And why outside?

"Okay, ready? Three, two, one, go!"

Kei and Kageyama were standing toe to toe, their noses nearly touching. The goal was to push the other away and cause the other to stumble. Kageyama held Kei's gaze without wavering. This close, Kei could see just how deep the setter's eyes were. Like an ocean, steady and calm. Kageyama was also staring, Kei's golden eyes a sight of their own. The two boys seemed to have forgotten their surroundings as they stared into each other's eyes. Hinata shouted go again and Kei pushed Kageyama, causing him to fall. The setter was too distracted because he couldn't believe what had crossed his mind as he stared at Kei.

He thought, Kei was pretty.
