hot take moment cwilbur is literally just psychotic as all hell and i think people got way too comfortable villianizing the shit out of a man who was clearly portraying signs of severe mental illness. cwilbur was like im so fucking paranoid and scared and i think everyone is out to get me and hurt me and ive spiralled to the point i cant reach out to the people closest to me because im so afraid and lost in this spiral and im having constant panic attacks and hurting myself because i dong know what to do with myself and the only way out for me is to die. and everybody was like EVIL MAN WHO ENJOYS HURTING OTHERS AND IS ABUSIVE ON PURPOSE AND A VILLAIN AND SHOULD NEVER BE TRUSTED AGAIN. and then he came back and was like im still deeply troubled and afraid but im desperately trying to make up for the wrongs i did in the past and the people i hurt in my own way and communication is really hard for me but i hope people know that im truely sorry and i love them. im going to try my hardest to fix this in the only way i know how and then respectfully remove myself from the situation because i feel thats the kindest thing i can do to the people ive hurt. and people were like ABUSER ABUSER ABUSER EVIL MAN ABUSER. like girl

I'd hope I manage to portray Wilbur the way he deserves in my content, cause that man is heavily bpd coded and he just needs therapy and someone who genuinely loves him but also can handle his bullshit (which has exclusively and reliably been Quackity like, canonically)

But yeah no completely agreed. The man has issues and has definitely fucked up a lot but at the end of the day he really does need love and care and patience, but also boundaries (and therapy and meds, obviously)

Indeed they would. In fact, this point actually pushed me to ask my sister-in-law, who is a therapist/counselor about it just out of curiosity. 

Here’s what I learned:

Despite what my counselor said, not all therapists were required in school to do counseling themselves to get certified. Some counselors have actually never even been to therapy themselves (not sure how I feel about that to be honest… not to deter people from going to therapy - please do if you are able) something my sister-in-law didn’t seem to be a big fan of.

When asked if she felt like she needed counseling after/because of a specific client she said that yes that can definitely be the case. She noted that empathy fatigue is often common after listening to people all day, which makes sense and that would be a common reason for some needed personal counseling. As expected, while she hasn’t had to deal with a lot of it, she did note that dealing with people with antisocial behavior disorders (ie narcissistic, histrionic… think sociopath disorders) can be especially taxing.

Given that the dsmp is a group of povs of the same story and events, I was curious on whether she often found herself taking sides when she does couples counseling. She said that there can be an initial bias at first when the base facts are presented to her, which is something she often has to check herself on, but that actually she finds that usually there is truth and wrongdoing on both sides and there is no true ‘bad guy.’ Though she did add that she has not dealt with any relationships involving more intense abuse especially relating to antisocial behavior disorders. In other words, the couples she sees likely came willingly and are sound enough in mind on both sides to want to fix the problems, if that makes sense.

So in other words, there are, much to my surprise, counselors who do not go (may not have gone) to therapy themselves, but that doesn’t make it healthy and considering the characters in the dsmp it would likely be recommended that this counselor also see someone. I will say though the implication that people in the dsmp are more problematic then real world people are is perhaps an underestimation of irl mental illness. Just because the dsmp members wear armor and carry around weapons doesn't make them more troublesome than people irl, though perhaps that is me viewing it from their world standards which I assume the therapist would be from. In either case, whether the therapist was from the realm of Minecraft world circumstances or more irl, I do imagine they being either inhumanly sane and not need a therapist of their own, or they get together with another therapist and perhaps drink over all the dsmp insanity. And whether they would be inclined to take sides I think is hard to say since there are definitely some characters who need a psych ward. Anyways… hope you enjoyed my info dump. :)

why would Anybody try to do what he did? when Most People don't know the extent of How misleading his summaries were? when they'd Never reach an audience a fraction of a fraction of evan's size?

our chance of Accurate lore summaries for the dream smp are, most likely, gone forever. with the state of everything Surrounding the server it. Wouldn't Be Advisable. and the odds of it reaching Any audience At All at this stage is slim to none.

So much for Sam beginning to see Dream as Not A Monster, lol.

But maybe Punz changes up his revenge tactics and starts being nice. Maybe he realizes that he’s vindicating Sam, and giving him his martyrdom position just as Sam secretly craves. Maybe he starts being good to him after that realization out of spite, to rob him of his desire to be a victim.

Maybe it works.

you're right, Sam flips right back to being angry at dream. how COULD he, he's letting Sam get hurt, the hypocrisy, isn't this what dream was complaining about??? the fact that Sam let HIM get hurt??? so why is HE doing the same thing now?? but dreams also somewhat of a safe haven. dream hasn't ever actually put a hand on Sam outside running a few experiments but none of that was painful, just like. humiliating and uncomfortable. and the few times sam's actually gotten badly hurt dreams begrudgingly taken care of him. so he's a guaranteed respite. dreams Literally been nothing but nice when they interact. first before when dream thought he was just a creeper and even now, when he dresses any wounds, he pets over Sam, and he's gentle.

plus, dream...

dreams having a Very Uncomfortable Experience watching it from the outside in. he even tries to tell himself sam really deserves it. taste of his own medicine and all that. but somehow watching.. punz.. take quackitys role. and hurt sam because he did something "bad". doesnt sit right with him. for multiple reasons.

first, dream knows that the way he's trying and failing to justify this to himself is exactly how Sam justified his mistreatment in prison. he did something bad, so he deserves worse. he's mine to control, so I can let punz hurt him. he needs to be put in his place, he needs to be trained into obedience... dreams spent Hours picking apart every reason Sam had for letting quackity in and telling himself exactly why every one of those reasons is just stupid. he knows how it feels to be on the losing side!! and he honestly doesn't think he can do what Sam did and just stand by and watch it happen.

plus, again, the situation reminds him Too Much of pandora. it makes him Nauseous. at first he thought he'd be okay with punz taking his anger out on Sam cause- well, punz *does* need to take his anger out somewhere (see the attack on LN in canon- u can see just how worked up punz gets, he's finally applying himself to something instead of sitting by, he needed that), and punz is an ally, and hurting Sam doesn't hinder the plan, and it's not like sam's going anywhere, and it's not like sams done anything to earn dreams favor, so why not like... just let punz have his chew toy, or whatever....

but the problem is dreams Trauma tee em. he can't work with punz if he's afraid of punz. and seeing punz take revenge on something that can't really fight back? OHH TOO MANY PARALLELS. dreams basically having a weeks-long Pandora's flashback post reveal because Too Many Goddamn Things triggered Too Many Goddamn Memories. when he starts flinching back from punz is when he knows he needs to stop it.

and like. Sam notices all this. he's not blind to dream having some sort of second thoughts. and then dream proves him right by telling punz to back off? dreams like, actually an angel, or whatever.
