Downton Abbey Headcannons

My mother and I went to Downton Abbey: a new era, and when we went back, we were both hyped and she said ''come on that's so sad it's ended'' and I said ''yup, time to start writing fanfictions about what happened next'' but she didn't like most of my headcannons so here's a preview and I'll put more next time.

SPOILER ALERT

Context: I imagine that as a new series centered around the grand-children of Robert and Cora, but with still their parents and all in the picture.

George, Marigold and Sybbie are raised practically together even though only George is in Downton. Since they don't have a big age difference they are best friends and consider themselves as ''the Three'' even though they all have half-siblings (Caroline Talbot, Peter Pelham and Violet Branson, yes, neither the sex nor the name were stated but come on what else) who are much younger.

The Sinderbys (Atticus and Rose) are back from New-York because Lord Sinderby died and they've got to manage the estate. They visit Downton regularly.

Johnny Bates wants to become a footman but his parents think there is no more future in that job and want him to do something else. He'll eventually be put against his will, at the age of 13, at the Mason farm to help with the cows and will find a dog having pups in the hay, so he'll help it, save the pups but not the mom, the pups are more or less the breed Lord Grantham loves so he gives one to Lord Grantham and one to Caroline, because he's so crushing on her even though they are 13 and 12.

During the Battle of England, Downton will welcome many children who fled London.

In 1939, George gets 18 and to celebrate his birthday, Sybbie invites everybody at la Villa des Colombes, but they've got to go back to England because France gets invaded by Germany.

In 1937, Marigold tells her mother she's kinda seduced by the fascist speech or something and Edith decides it's the right moment (why she thinks that, I don't know) to tell her daughter that she's her biological daughter and that Gregson was killed by nazis during a brawl. Marigold laughs and says that she didn't know for Gregson but of course she knew she was Edith's daughter since, well... what else, really? Plus when she asked George to get informations, he asked his mother and Lady Mary said ''yeah, sure, Edith had a child out of wedlock but don't tell anyone ok?'' and he told Marigold since she was the one asking.

Edith is going for a news story in Poland but she gets caught in the invasion and is emprisonned, thus Bertie's main role for the series will be to try and have her delivered by diplomatic means.

So basically that's a first thing. If you want to know more details, stay tune for George's elopement or Lord Grantham's death.

Jimmy headcannon time!

So we have problems as we already know I'm sure-

We have invented Jimmy's whole backstory since we really don't know shit about him canon-wise and I need to explain whyyyy Jimmy is Jimmy

And basically it's gay

Also tragic

So obviously we can all agree Jimmy is bisexual

What if he had a boyfriend right (pre-downton)

But they were all hush hush about it, and it was the first time Jimmy ever had feelings for men, and he's ashamed of it because you know how people are...

He was 100% raised by conservatives who are like... "Ewww gayyyy"

But Jimmy decides his love for this man is worth it, and he takes a risk and goes for it. He loves this man through and through

....Then...

The war starts. Jimmy's boyfriend gets drafted into the army

And gets killed.

(I know I know I'm evil)

But also it makes sense!

Jimmy takes it as a sign that being queer is indeed evil and wrong, otherwise his boyfriend wouldn't have died. It was a punishment of the worst kind.

He doesn't want to risk it anymore. He took a risk and paid for it.

That's why Jimmy freaks out so much when Thomas kisses him. Did Thomas find out he liked men somehow??? Did everyone know??

What was the punishment this time??? What if something happened to Thomas?

So... He overcompensates due to fear. Lashes out at Thomas, terrified of repeating the past. Insists he only likes girls. Mostly to protect Thomas.

I see your Vicount Grantham headcanon and raise you another: that Matthew has a younger sister/brother and despite the 6 year age gap, they were close and the sibling was devastated when Matthew died (also think of the hi-jinks they got up to when they were younger).

OH!!!!

That is actually a great headcanon! Matthew and his sibling being the ultimate partners in crime when they were younger, much to Isobel's chagrin (although since their older brother's instatement as the heir presumptive, Matthew became busier and their sibling is still chaotic, but tries to balance it with trying to be a mature person as they grow up). They are still close though, but not as close as they were when they were kids.

Matthew's sibling will absolutely devastated when their brother died, but tries their best not to be too emotional as they try to be strong for their mother and their nephew George. Them and Mary will be comforting one another definitely.

Also I headcannon that Michael loves fashion. Especially vintage fashion history. He is a HUGE nerd. He could critique a period movie that takes place in the victorian or edwardian era. He could complain for hours how wrong the costume designers are.

Oh for sure. He watches downton abbey and the titanic on loop just to point out to new people how one dress didn’t come into fashion until a year after the titanic sank. I think he’d also read historical fiction for that reason but half of it is shitty romance so he’ll cover the text so he can focus on the stuff he likes.

Alt people are just nerds with a purpose, and Michael’s purpose is to become someone’s cool history teacher

Exciting - ideal type of unplanned adventure?

Resi adores the impromptu get in the car and sees where it takes them sort of adventure. She likes to just let fate pick out where she can go to. Yes, there will be a few 'WTF' moments but the majority of the time she finds hidden treasures like new trails in the mountains, new attractions and different places she didn't know existed such as abandoned places lost to history which she may have remembered year's ago but forgot - it's the nostalgia of the adventure.

Favourites - what's your favourite show, movie and book?

Resi's current favourite TV show at the moment is The Empress on Netflix. Yes, it is another Sisi based TV show but Resi is hooked on it. This is because she wants to see if the show is historically accurate as she lived through it and knew exactly about how Sisi and Franz Joseph were and about how they lived their lives - also most importantly she wants to see whether the show is better than the movie trilogy. Also, she has been watching Criminal: Germany and not forgetting her beloved American reality shows especially Keeping up with the Kardashians (which is her guilty pleasure).

Her favourite book at the moment which she has started to read is Hook, Line and sinker by Hannah Bellinger which is a contemporary romance, She also has started to read the Bridgerton series of books by Julia Quinn as she is fascinated by how they differ from the TV series - she is up to 'The Viscount who loved me' but her all-time favourite and thanks to Vlad for introducing her to it is 'The Forbidden Forest' by Mircea Eliade. She is very slowly trying to read it as her copy is in Romanian and her skills in the language are still not good but she is getting there. She loves the context of the book and is excited about progressing and finding out what Stefan will do whether he will be lured to the mysterious Iieana or stay loyal to his wife Ioana.

Resi's all-time favourite movie is anything with Romy Schneider especially the Sisi trilogy of the 1950s and 1960s but she also enjoys modern American and British movies especially movies which are biopic, dramatic real-life stories or action-packed ones. She is wanting to watch the new Downton Abbey movie when she can.

In my series of Downton Abbey Headcannons, the Tale of the Long Wait!

TW of suicide and of bullying.

So, basically, remember John and Anna Bates? They had a son named Johnny who was born in the sixth season.

And soon after, Mary and Henry Talbot had a daughter named Caroline Talbot.

When Johnny is 13, he goes to work at the Parker farm (at Daisy and Andrew's, but since Andrew is the new butler and Daisy a full time cook, they don't have much time to manage it) and rescues a litter of puppies. He gives one to Lord Grantham and one to Caroline Talbot because he crushed hard on her, and she does on him. So anyway, a few years later, as he is 16, he goes to the hospital to ask if they've got work for him, and Clarkson gives him a few chores, but he soon discovers Johnny has a real gift for diagnosis and finding symptoms (although to be honest Clarkson has kind of the opposite, a gift to make wrong diagnosis, the only one he did right was Sybil's eclampsia or almost.) and Clarkson gives him a more important role, to help the nurses not just sweep the floors, you see the drill. Then he signs him up as an intern and retires happy (though he helped Sybbie give birth to Robbie Crawley as seen in my Tale of the Two Lovers, which kinda traumatized him but no big deal).

He is replaced with a vindicative doctor who was demoted from London doctor to countryside doctor because of a mistake or malpratice or something but he was not demoted to civilian instead of doctor because it's the war and we need doctors. The new doctor, Dr Thaddeus Bartlett, is against the very idea of a ''pampered guy from the big house who became an intern because the former doctor was licking the dowager's boots'' (the dowager being Lady Mary here) and refuses to admit Johnny might have some individual worth. He then starts to bully him mercilessly to get him to quit, but Johnny stands up for himself, saves a patient Bartlett was going to let die because he couldn't see a symptom (same misdiagnosis as the one that got him demoted by the way) and Bartlett is fired and Johnny gets a scholarship in a prestigious medicine school and Lady Mary offers to pay for side expanses like the food and such.

Before he goes, he invites Caroline to the movies and she accepts. He kisses her on the cheek after that and she blushes, they hold hands for part of the walk home.

Then he goes to his medicine school, and when the war is over, Caroline is sent to her first Season in London. When he comes back from his school as Doctor John Bates, he buys a ring and intends to propose to her (but like, five or ten years have gone by).

When he rings at the door, it's opened by a footman and when he asks where Lady Caroline Talbot is, the footman answers ''what, dya mean Lady Caroline Wilkinson?'' because she got married in between, to Arthur Wilkinson, the eldest of a squire.

So basically, Violet Branson, who was here to visit, sees him and thinks ''wow he is even cuter than I remember'' and starts flirting with him, and since he is heartbroken but knows there is no way Caroline is coming back for him, he flirts back, and at the end of the year, Violet Branson becomes Mrs John Bates.

In the mean time, Caroline and Arthur Wilkinson are very happy together, and she gets pregnant. But Arthur's uncle, whom he is very close with, is accused of having been a spy during the 2WW and executed, and Arthur is accused of having been an accomplice. He admits to Caroline that it might be true because he does remember his uncle giving him things to hide or give to other people but didn't think much of it at the time. He is arrested, pleads guilty because he wants to assume his fault, but since he was not aware of what he was doing, the judge says ok life sentence will do. Caroline visits him often in prison, first pregnant then with Enid WIlkinson, but he tells her to forget him, to ask for a divorce and remake her life with someone else. She refuses. Two months later (after he refused visits from her again and again in hopes she would stop coming and follow his advice) he commits suicide and leaves a letter telling that basically it's better for everyone, better for his parents not to have a son in prison, better for his younger brother and family to know without a doubt he is the heir and Arthur's not gonna get out of prison at some point, be pardonned and snatch back the title, better for Caroline to be a widow than the spouse of a traitor, etc.

At the same time, Dr Bates and Violet are having the time of their lives in Manchester where he practices. They give birth to Lucy Anna Bates. Sybbie, George and kids (Bobbie, mentionned in Tale of Two Lovers, and little Mathilda ''Tilly'' Mary Sybil Crawley) come for the christening because Sybbie is the godmother. The two couples take a vacation to the sea to celebrate and Bates stays at the hotel with baby Lucy since she's got some kind of fever. While they are bathing, the Crawley don't notice Violet is drifting away and when they do, they can't get her on time and she is drowned.

They go back to Downton for the funeral, where Caroline and Dr!Bates meet again, each with their child, and obviously nothing happens because they are both grieving, but they do talk again, and they talk about their summer flirt when they were teens, and basically both regret not having done anything at the time, Dr!Bates regrets not coming back sooner to propose and Caroline regrets not waiting a bit longer before marrying WIlkinson, although she did love him and was happy with him. Enid and Lucy are both taken care of by the nurse, along with the little Crawleys, and Lady Mary and Anna Bates are watching their grandkids.

Five years later, after they both grieved to their heart's content and when Dr Bates goes to take the place of whoever took Bartlett's place after he got fired, and goes to live in a cottage near the hospital with Lil' Lucy, Caroline and him meet again, start flirting again but as adults now, and finally get married. They have three kids together, John Bates III, Leopold Bates and Mariana (mix of Mary and Anna, the two grandmothers, of course).

In the mean time George and Sybbie had a third child, after Bobbie and Tilly, a little Christina ''Christie'' Crawley.

My Viscount Downton headcannons (if he ever lived) that no one asked for but I'm doing it anyway:

Cora had a very difficult labor, which made Robert extremely worried

Luckily, the girls got to calm him down, but deep inside they were also worried

Hours later, Dr. Clarkson went to them and simply smiled at the rest of the family

He didn't have to say anything else because Robert already rushed upstairs to their Cora's room

Cora was holding the little boy in her arms, calming him down

Robert then saw them, and cried in joy as he saw his wife and his son

The girls the followed shortly, and saw their little brother for the first time

Cora was tired, but very happy that her family complete and surrounding her

He is an exact copy of Robert, but has Cora's bright blue eyes

They him Alexander Isidore Crawley. Alexander was a name chosen by the girls, after Alexander the Great

Isidore was chosen as his second name honor of Cora's father, Isidore Levinson

It was also chosen by Robert because Cora reminded him the night before that it was her father's death anniversary that day

Cora heard this and was touched, making her emotional once again

Alexander (or Alex, as he was fondly called by his family) grew up during WW1 and got to see Downton being a convalescent home

At 6 years old, he got to be a page boy at Matthew and Mary's wedding. He also witnessed the death of his older and closest sister, Sybil, and the birth of his niece, Sybbie

After Sybil's death, he became even closer with Tom, as well as with Matthew

Which is why when Matthew died, Mary and Alex were the ones greatly affected

He acted like a big brother to both Sybbie and George

Every afternoon, after his home study lessons, he (while accompanied by either one of his sisters or Tom) visits Matthew and Sybil's graves and put flowers on them which he picked from their garden

He will also tell them stories, on how Sybbie and George are, how their family is, and how they always miss them very much

He then also visits his Granny Violet and Aunt Isobel, also bringing them flowers and telling stories

Alex also hangs out with the Downstairs staff, where he was close with Anna, Ms. Hughes, Thomas Barrow, and Ms. Patmore

Through them, secretly learned how to cook, sew, and play the piano; skills he used to surprise his family during their birthdays and the holidays

He was also asked by both Henry Talbot and Bertie Pelham first in offering a hand in marriage to his sisters

He agrees to it, in the condition that they'll take care of them and love them very much

He grows up to be a kind and loving boy, loved by both his family upstairs and downstairs

He was exactly like his sister Sybil, but a bit wilder in spirit

He was also the first Viscount Downton to not attend Eton College. Instead, he insisted that he attend a local school in his county (to which his father agrees eventually). He then attended King's College in Cambridge before the war

He then fights alongside his nephew, George during WW2

Okay can I just say I adore your downton abbey x peaky blinders oneshots/headcannons with Tommy! I remember starting downton and realizing that the shows take place in the same time frame (roughly) - I really hope you continue writing them! (of course only if you want to). I would really like to see reader and Tommy get married :)

Headcanons about your man Charles Talent Manx III?

Ooh boy, this is gonna be long and good:

Charlie’s birthday is November 1st, 1894. I made it that because he’s inbetween Halloween and Christmas (being a vampire that owns a Christmas theme park). Plus, November 1st is the Day of The Dead for children (I believe it’s called “Day of The Little Saints”). “Dead” children certainly connect to him for... obvious reasons 😉. Plus, I imagine his zodiac to be a Scorpio (he’s definately a water sign to me, either cancer like me or Scorpio, but the other elements to making it November 1st attracted me too much, so Scorpio it is).

His favorite shows to watch on TV are Downton Abbey (and other Masterpiece Classic shows), and Antiques Roadshow (but he also loves tuning into Turner Classic Movies when something good is on).

His favorite genres of movies (and books) are horror (which makes him laugh) and Christmas (which makes him happy), but he’s open minded to all genres. What matters most is if the storytelling and concepts are good.

Given that he was around horses as a kid, he knows how to handle one and they would connect instantly (he’s no horse whisperer, he just knows how to deal with them).

He calls his dick “Little Charlie.” 😝

He can crap out candy canes and Hershey kisses as a joke, and his farts and burps smell like gingerbread and sugar cookies. It happened in the 60’s at Parnassus: He was with some of his friends and getting drunk, when one of them jokingly told him he’s full of so much Christmas cheer, he might as well shit out candy canes and Hershey kisses. Charlie thought about this and after everyone else had passed out drunk, he considered maybe using his psychic power for something comedic. When he found he could do it, he offered his friend, who was waking up, some candy canes and Hershey kisses. After he ate them, Charlie laughed and said, “You just ate my ass candy!” Everyone burst up laughing. Well, a few days after that, he noticed his farts and burps smelled... festive. It hasn’t gone away since then and he hasn’t felt the need to change it.

He’s bisexual, but he mostly prefers girls. I’ve explained why many months ago, but to give the long and short of it, it’s a combination of the experience he had when he was thirteen affecting his budding sexuality, but it’s also generally because immortals’ and their sexuality are a complicated thing, and most likely, when you’ve been around a long time, it becomes irrelevant in many ways. Even if Charlie’s experience hadn’t happened, I’m sure he would still have this experience with his sexuality. I like the idea of exploring this complicated aspect to human sexuality rather than just outright making him bi for no reason, as it’s a complicated subject that’s not often heard of.

Chubby women with red hair and very handsome, dashing men are his ideal types, but he makes exceptions because all that matters is if he feels a strong bond with you.

He has two sets of teeth: his naturally sharp teeth and fangs secreted behind his teeth he can jut out when he’s pissed. His finger nails also grow and retract at his will. His bite can cause frost bite.

He has a wide array of abilities, including mind reading, telekinesis, fire starting, making ice/general cold (this one is easier than fire starting), hypnosis/mind control, flight (to an extent), speed, invisibility (but it takes a lot out of him unless he’s hiding with his car), the ability to transform into a bat (but this one takes the most energy out of him), and the ability to eat people, both whole and alive and in pieces, and he can even prevent digestion when needed. He’s not like his kids where he needs people more frequently, but he does have his cravings from time to time he needs to satisfy. Like with his kids, he’s very particular about his meals. There are a bunch of other abilities I have listed somewhere, but those are just a few of others I’m forgetting.

He’s the big spoon when cuddling, but occasionally, he likes to be the little spoon, particularly when he’s upset or in a certain playful mood.

Favorite music: Anything from songs he used to sing as a kid to the 1970’s he enjoys. 1980’s is when interest goes down, he mostly enjoys newwave stuff though. 1990’s it’s hit or miss. Anything 2000’s and up and he’s lost.

The Vehicle Identification Number (or VIN) on his car happens to be: FWM03041922060329. This translates to: FWM= F.W. Murnau, who made Nosferatu. 03-04-1922= When it first released in Germany. 06-03-29= When it first released in America.

He calls the Wraith “Nana Wraith” occasionally (I give credit to my friends Fae, Parasol, and Wraith for this one, they made this one, but it’s definately worth a mention on the topic of Wraithie).
