The Owl House And Restorative Justice
At the end of Season 1 of The Owl House, it is revealed that Lilith, the main overarching antagonist of that season, was the one to curse her sister Eda, one of the protagonists, to win a tournament when they were teenagers. This information causes Eda to fly into a screaming rage and attack Lilith, and understandably so.
Eda’s curse is essentially a chronic illness, one that, in Eda’s own words, has ruined her life, being the reason she’s considered a social outcast and why, before meeting King and Luz, she hadn’t gotten close to anyone in years. In season 2, it’s revealed that the curse is why she pushed away her partner Raine to the point that they broke it off with her, and that during a particularly bad flareup, she accidentally maimed her own father, leaving him half blind and with permanent nerve damage to his hands, making him unable to continue working as a Palisman carver. The curse has ruled Eda’s life for decades now, so to Eda, this is the ultimate betrayal.
In the first episode of Season 2, Lilith has defected from the Emperor’s Coven, split the curse between Eda and herself to mitigate the symptoms for her sister, and has moved in with Eda at the Owl House. While Lilith herself still feels guilty and feels she has to make it up to Eda, everyone else, Eda included, has seemingly either forgiven her or chosen to look past it. Eda even makes fun of her for feeling bad about cursing her, and Lilith’s guilt is seemingly absent for the rest of the series.
The response to this was… Less than stellar, shall we say. A lot of people were angry, saying Lilith got away with her crimes without even a slap on the wrist, and that Eda’s forgiveness of her was far too sudden.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of critique. Amity spent years bullying Willow after her parents forced her to break off their friendship, and when she began trying to mend that relationship, the response from fans was that Willow should have been a lot more angry at Amity, and that they went back to being besties far too soon. I’ve even seen this criticism leveled at Hunter for the things he did while working for Belos, at Vee for impersonating Luz for months to trick her mother, and at Luz for hiding the fact that she helped Philip find the Collector from her friends. And it does seem strange for the show to keep tripping on this same point again and again.
Except, it’s not really. Because I think that, when viewing this show from a different angle, those supposed flaws are actually symptoms of something very important to understand – The Owl House operates on a system of crime and punishment that is very different from our world’s.
More specifically, our world mostly utilizes retributive justice. The world of The Owl House utilizes restorative justice.
So first, what do those terms mean? Broadly, they’re two different forms of handling interpersonal disputes, or dealing with crime.
Retributive justice is the one our current justice system uses, where the focus is primarily on punishing the perpetrator. Retributive justice can mean detention, suspension, expulsion, jail time, monetary fines, some kinds of community service, exile, or in more severe cases, corporal punishment or the death penalty. It’s the lens most people view the world through, where if someone hurts you, hurting them back is the correct response.
Restorative justice is a very different approach, where you instead focus on helping the victim recover from what happened, and rehabilitating the perpetrator to prevent this from happening again. Restorative justice can look like verbal or written apologies, monetary compensation for costs and trauma, therapy for both victim and perpetrator, education for the perpetrator, mediation between victim and perpetrator, a restraining order, etc.
When viewed through a retributive lens, The Owl House lets its characters get away with a lot of shit. Lilith cursing Eda, Hunter rounding up Palismen knowing they’ll be killed, Amity tormenting Willow for years, it’s all stuff that, in a retributive environment, they should be punished for, and they’re just not. Eda is only genuinely angry at Lilith for two scenes, Amity and Willow fix their relationship very quickly once Amity starts making amends, and Hunter isn’t punished at all.
However, I believe the story of The Owl House is best viewed not through a retributive lens, but through a restorative lens.
Let’s look at the Lilith-example again. Lilith’s offense was cursing Eda, which she did because she wanted to win a spot in the Emperor’s Coven. Knowing Eda was better than her, she cast a curse on her, thinking it would only last for a day. But when the time came, Eda forfeited the match, soon after which she transformed into the Owl Beast and was pelted with rocks until she ran. The curse turned out to be very permanent, and Lilith spent the next 20 years trying to fix her mistake by working for Belos to try to capture Eda, since he promised to heal her curse.
However, when she finally succeeded, Belos went back on his promise. Instead of healing Eda, he ordered her to be publicly executed. When Lilith protested, Belos essentially told her to shut up, that it was the Titan’s will, and left her there.
So, having realized her method of fixing her mistake has gone real bad, Lilith sneaks down to the Conformatorium to free Eda herself, but arrives too late and finds Luz instead. After a brief fight they end up teaming up, and Lilith leads Luz to the elevator, but they are captured by Belos and Lilith is thrown into the cage with Eda. There, she restores Eda’s partially petrified body, and after fleeing with her, Luz and King, uses a spell to split Eda’s curse evenly between their two bodies.
From a restorative justice point of view, Lilith has done pretty much everything she reasonably could do to fix things. She’s denounced the Emperor’s Coven, returned Owlbert to Luz, helped Luz find the elevator to the execution platform, saved Eda from petrification, apologized to Eda, and while there’s no way for her to cure Eda’s curse entirely, she took on half of the curse at great expense to her own health, in order to ease Eda’s symptoms.
Eda isn’t angry anymore because in her eyes, Lilith has already fixed things with her. Punishing her more at this point is pointless. What more could Lilith do, really? What other lessons could she learn? The only thing that punishment would bring at this point would be more suffering.
Let’s look at another example: Amity and Willow.
Amity’s offense was breaking off her friendship with Willow because she was a late-bloomer, bullying her for years, and allowing her friends to do so too. Willow is left with horrible self-esteem issues because of this, and combined with her failing grades, turned her into a horribly shy and withdrawn wallflower (no pun intended). After she’s moved to the plant track she starts actually getting better, but Amity and Boscha especially continue to torment her. While Amity’s bullying of Willow does peter out over time, Willow is clearly still extremely resentful of her. In an attempt to make Willow forget their friendship, Amity accidentally sets most of Willow’s memories on fire, leaving her confused, amnesiac, and unable to grasp basic concepts like that chairs are for sitting in.
Luz pushed Amity into fixing Willow’s brain by going into her mind together and piecing her memories back together. There, the Inner Willow revealed what happened to Luz and the audience.
At this point, Amity shows her that her parents were actually the ones who forced her to end the friendship because they didn’t think Willow was a suitably powerful or influential friend, threatening to make sure Willow would never get accepted into Hexside if Amity didn’t force her to leave. Amity then apologizes to Willow for going along with it, and for the bullying, and vows to make sure her friends never mess with Willow again.
Willow accepts her apology, but also makes it clear that, while it’s a start, she’s not yet ready to accept Amity in her life again. Restorative justice has not been fully attained, because to Willow, Amity hasn’t fixed everything – Boscha and her squad are still bullying her, and still consider Amity one of them. This changes two episodes later, when Amity tells Boscha to grow the fuck up when she starts bullying Willow again, and joins her and Luz’s Grudgby team despite her personal issues to get Boscha to back off. Willow doesn’t make a grand gesture of forgiveness in this episode, but it is after this point where the two become comfortable around eachother again.
Did Willow forgive Amity too quickly for years of trauma? Maybe. If she had chosen to continue keeping Amity at a distance I certainly wouldn’t have blamed her. But in the end, Amity fixed the mess she caused as best she could, and has proven herself to want to be a better person, to want to be Willow’s friend again. She worked hard to prove herself to be a person worth trusting, and Willow decided to give that trust a chance again.
And while they did become friends again, that friendship was clearly still affected by what happened, which led to bumps that the two of them had to work through. Like in Labyrinth Runners, where Amity’s overprotectiveness over Willow makes Willow feel like Amity thinks she’s incompetent, and still only sees her as the helpless person she used to be.
Willow continuing to be mad at Amity and punishing her for what she did wouldn’t be an unreasonable reaction, but it wouldn’t have fixed anything. It would certainly have an impact on Amity, seeing her former best friend rejecting her attempts to make up for what she did, but the hurt on both sides would have continued festering, because deep down, Willow missed Amity too.
In Hunter’s case, there’s the question of whether he can even be held responsible for his actions. The Palisman-kidnapping in specific was explicitly done under duress – if he failed he would face verbal and physical abuse, and be threatened with his nightmare scenario: getting thrown out of the Emperor’s Coven.
And that’s not an empty threat either. Hunter has no magic, and Belos has drilled it into him that witches without magic have no future. Without the Emperor’s Coven, his only future prospects would be starving to death on the streets or wasting away in prison. Either way, Hunter would be alone, without family or friends, without a job or job prospects, without anyone to turn to for help. Any child would be terrified of that. Hunter wasn’t always acting on direct orders – in fact he defied direct orders to stay in his room in Eclipse Lake to go look for Titan’s Blood, and then again in Hollow Mind to arrest the rebels. But he made those choices based on the idea that Belos wouldn’t want him if he was a failure, and that he needed a chance to prove that he could still be useful.
And contrary to popular belief, Hunter does know right from wrong. He has a very strong moral compass, he’s just been forced to ignore it in favor of doing whatever the Emperor wants. To shut up that little voice telling him he’s doing the wrong thing, he uses what’s called a thought-terminating cliche, a statement that feels so fundamentally true that the argument need not continue. In Hunter’s case, that statement is “It’s for the greater good.” Sure, kidnapping his new friends and abducting Palismen to feed to the Emperor and threatening someone who’s been nothing but kind to him to take the portal key from her girlfriend and justifying terrorism makes his stomach feel like he swallowed a cactus and saying it out loud makes him sound like a horrible person – but it’s for the greater good. He’s doing it to serve Belos, and Belos knows what’s best.
So by the time Hunter is out of active danger and able to rest and recover from what happened to him… what would further punishment accomplish? He already knows that he did fucked up shit while working for the EC, and he’s proven time and time again that while he’s not fighting for Belos’s approval, he’s actually a genuinely kind-hearted kid. Punishing him now would likely cause him to react very poorly, because he’s been at the wrong end of that stick so often that he’s developed severe PTSD because of it.
And if you think restorative justice is still in order – Hunter is currently hyperfixated on making sure Belos can never hurt anyone again, and for the long term, he has expressed that he wants to become a Palisman carver when he grows up. While it won’t bring back the Palismen that were killed, it will help the current Palisman population recover and reintroduce Palismen to witches who may have had to give up theirs.
When viewed through this lens, the writing of The Owl House starts to make more sense. As a show, it is extremely forgiving towards its characters – they’re still held accountable for their actions, but as long as they’re willing to grow and learn and fix the damage they caused, they are very quickly forgiven.
However, I do understand why these writing choices can be… controversial, so to say. Because it doesn’t feel very satisfying, does it? When someone hurts you on purpose, your first impulse would be to try to hurt them back, that’s just how people work.
That’s the hardest thing to come to terms with when you become an advocate for prison abolition for example – you’re not just arguing for freeing a guy who got 5 years because a cop found weed in his pockets, you’re arguing for the release, and most importantly, the humanity of some of the most vile, disgusting people this planet has ever produced. Even now, when someone commits a truly awful crime and gets sent to prison for life, my first thought is “Good, I hope they rot in there.” But that’s not justice. That’s just revenge. And revenge is not something we as a society should want to build our justice system on.
It’s not satisfying to see Lilith go from using Luz as a human shield in her fight against Eda to sleeping on the couch in Eda’s house within 2 episodes. It’s not satisfying to see Willow let Amity back into her life when Amity has hurt her so badly before, or to see Hunter become romantically involved with Willow after he literally abducted her the first time they met. But that satisfaction isn’t really the point. Revenge is satisfying in the moment, but an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, and if someone shows a genuine willingness to change, it’s often better to give them a chance to.
However, my final point is about what happens when this approach fails. Because not everyone is willing to change. Some people, when faced with the consequences of their actions, decide to dig their heels in and refuse to admit fault, or blame the victim(s), or use those same thought-terminating cliches that Hunter used to justify their actions, “I was just following orders” being a big one.
And thus, we come to Belos.
If Belos showed a willingness to change, a genuine one, not an attempt at manipulation, should he be given the chance to? That vengeful part of me is VERY empathetically saying no. But logically, reasonably, he should be given that chance, if only because he’s a human being and no human being deserves to be mistreated. That doesn’t mean his victims are obligated to forgive him or be around him again, in fact I think that, for the sake of Hunter’s mental health, Belos should stay as far away from him as humanly possible. But he should be given the chance to start over, to truly better himself and do something good with the rest of his life.
But Belos isn’t willing to change.
Belos is a product of a bad environment and grew up with a cult-like mentality and hatred for witches that he had to adopt for his own safety. It’s hard to break out of that mentality, but not impossible. Case in point: Caleb. The tragedy of Belos’s character to me is that he had so many chances to change, so many people to help him make that leap, but all of the people who offered him that help ended up dead by his hands because he couldn’t handle the idea that he may have been wrong.
At this point, Belos is stuck. Changing would mean not only giving up on his life’s work, but acknowledging to himself that everything he’s done, mutilating his body, killing his brother, slaughtering thousands and installing himself as God-Emperor of a population he despises more than anything in order to facilitate a genocide, was completely pointless.
He can’t admit that to himself. Especially the thing about Caleb’s death. He’s sunk-cost-fallacied himself so far into a corner that all he can really do when faced with opposing viewpoints is dig his heels in even deeper and lash out in a rage at anyone who challenges him. Even now, when his body is literally falling apart at the seams, he’s still trying to commit witch-genocide, because it’s all he has.
Restorative justice doesn’t work in this case, because the perpetrator needs to be receptive to it. Logically you would assume the show would default to retributive justice, and characters like Willow and Camila do take a very vengeful glee in imagining themselves beating the snot out of Belos. But right now, the primary motivation of the Hexsquad and Hunter in particular when it comes to Belos is to end the threat he poses. As long as Belos is alive and free, he will continue to hurt and kill people, and if he can’t be talked down, he needs to be either contained or killed to prevent him from causing more harm.
The Owl House provides, in my opinion, a very nuanced take on restorative justice. It shows how it works in action, how different situations impact what it looks like, and what happens when it’s simply not an option. It’s not the most satisfying story to tell your audience, because when someone hurts our babies we want them to suffer, no matter how sorry they say they are. But in this case, I think that sacrificing that bit of audience comfort is worth it to tell the story like this.

Do you think it's a bit odd how muddy the premise of TOH is?
I can sum up the premise of other similar shows I've watched in one sentence to any hypothetical viewer going in blind. SU: A chubby boy struggles to master his own power, identity, and goodness while navigating complex family dynamics, old wounds, and sick sci-fi technomagic. Amphibia: Three girls search for each other, stretch their friendship to its limits, and find a way back home in a wacky land populated by amphibians. She-Ra: An imperialist soldier turned rebel fights to free her homeland from occupation whilst struggling with the unique bond she shares with her frenemy.... etc!
I'm just not sure what I could say for TOH. A girl runs away from home to be mentored by a wild witch? But she doesn't really get mentored, and she didn't exactly run away either (she just... didn't go home until it was too late.) A girl leaves her home dimension to enroll in a magic school - hm, but that wasn't really something she super duper cared about, it was just part of the witch gimmick for her.
What else?? A human enters a land of witches, only to discover sinister scheming from the only other human to genocide - which - he's 400-ish too, so, uh, that proves that... colonialism... um.. religion... Let's restart. A human enters witchland and discovers things are not as they seem - no, things are pretty much as they seem-
A closeted girl is thrust into a new world in which she can be herself, and catches the eye of a popular rich girl? Hey, that's not too bad, except it ignores a whole lot of other shit that went down.
How about: A girl enters a wacky land that fulfills her dream of living a fantasy to a T, including the unpleasant parts of the genre.
...Yeah, I guess that's the closest I'm getting. Anyway, what d'you think about TOH's premise? Is it clear to you?
So when I bring up that TOH has a split personality problem, this is what I'm talking about. It effectively is trying to tell three different stories, with three different tones. Any one would be good on its own. Any two would need some finesse but they had plenty of time. All three? Well, even disregarding time constraints, you would have had to be really smart in mixing all three elements in order to make something cohesive as keeping them all separate for longer would simply create the same problem as keeping them apart for a short time does.
And TOH doesn't even fucking try. The literal only element that consistently ties all three story ideas together is Luz. I'll get into it more in a second but this is part of why when you pitch the show to someone, you kind of just have to focus the entire description on Luz in one way or another. To mention any of the other elements causes you to inherently imply one is more important than the others and TOH never chose anything to prioritize.
But of course, what were the three stories trying to be told and with what tones? And I'll talk about how it handles each of them weaving into one another once I've just established a baseline for each.
Well, first we have the slice of life, comedy, coming of age story that is Luz, Eda, King and Lilith. Especially in S1, most hijinks with them are focused around blunt morality, hijinks and just dealing with a problem of the day. It is the most bluntly kid's show of any of them, adopting a lot of the tone of Amphibia. This is why we get so many B plots with King that are the same thing over and over again. It's why Lilith and Eda are on opposite sides of the law but they don't fight until the end but instead are just nice, silly sisters here for hijinks. It's also part of why Lilith is made into a joke in S2 because that is more keeping in line with the tone of this storyline than if she were to actually what happened to her seriously and mixed in with:
The second is a fantasy epic about the corruption of a world by hate and prejudice. Of one man's corrupted beliefs of religion and want for control ruining a land. It is a much darker toned story, meant to reflect the horrors of the real world and its prejudices. This is the plot of Belos and Hunter. It is also the plot that is the smallest part of TOH but should have been the most omnipresent due to how so much of it is tied strictly into the worldbuilding. A lack of world building easily makes this sort of story, like most dystopians, fall completely apart. It also is the one that requires the most adherence to it as conflicting elements makes this story feel all the weaker each time someone treats this existential threat as nothing to be worried about.
The third is the most obvious: The school drama/romance story. This one is probably the one actually trying to be the most concise due to how almost every element for a season and a half of this plot is dedicated just to the weird girl/serious girl romance. It's a classic and one I've iterated on multiple times myself as it's just a fun concept to handle.
So there you go. Three ideas that are each on their own a good story but have their own complications. Each one of these could have easily taken two seasons to properly explore and tell. With more efficient storytelling, any of them could have taken a single season or less.
But then you get the exponential problem of mixing them together. Because mind you, tonally you have a comedy slice of live, a romantic drama, and a dark epic. Those are VASTLY different genres for each tonally and in narrative intent.
The easiest combo is actually the first and second. This is actually what Amphibia is effectively. The show starts in a somewhat isolated part of the world so its lighter tone can not contrast with the darker epic that is to come, giving it a safe space for character development, relationships, etc. Then with each threat, it gets a little more serious with its tone. There's a reason Hop Pop buries the box in S1 but the confrontation about what that means isn't until S2. There's a reason why S3B of Amphibia is MARKEDLY more serious than anything that came before it. The strength of this combo is that when the darker elements show up, the contrast of what came before makes them hit all the harder and makes you care about the stakes.
So what about how TOH handles it? Well, Lilith and Eda are theoretically a blend of the two but Lilith is never treated quite seriously enough. Also, rather than it being ideological, it comes across more personal with those two and it kind of leaves Belos out of it for the entirety of the first season, especially due to how wishy washy the show is about the covens being a big deal. Then in S2, Lilith absolutely SHOULD be the connective tissue. Her and Luz share a similar anger towards Belos and the two acting on that anger is a way to show that hate in any form is destructive, playing on the grander themes of the epic side of it while bringing in The Owl Family.
Instead, Lilith is just kind of flicked away, rendering any connective tissue from S1 to just evaporate, especially as no one actually seems to have cared about Belos almost murdering Eda. Rather, Raine is the connective tissue for the two plotlines. You know, the character who never gets to meaningfully interact with Luz or King, nor actually has a role in potentially pulling Luz to different ways of learning like Lilith might have, meaning they don't interact with the mentor side either. Even in their first episode, Raine is entirely self contained away from the other two. Eda and King's closest contribution to the plot before S3 is honestly in trying to get info out of Warden Wrath and that's really it. Otherwise, they're entirely divorced from Belos, his philosophy and his machinations.
So next easiest combo: The grand epic mixed with the school setting. This is how you get things like S3 of RWBY, My Hero Academia or Harry Potter (Though HP sucks dick at it too because good old Joanne sucks both at being a good person and actually writing anything serious.) The school setting is used as a kind of safe space for drama, romance and teenage shenanigans while the dark elements allow those things to come to a fever pitch as well as a way to test the bonds made at school versus the grand threat's hate and evil. It's hard to make smooth though, if the fact that I listed two things with... questionable plot writing to put it mildly isn't indicative. It at least has been done before. Oh, Naruto pre-Shippuden could possibly also be counted as this.
And TOH mixes these two by... Hunter? That really is the closest it ever comes to mixing them. The school is easily the part that obliterates taking Belos' regime or themes seriously as it constantly, CONSTANTLY undermines the worldbuilding of the show and struggles to actually feel like a part of the grander society. None of the Hexside Squad members ever properly face what being a wild witch or ditching the coven system actually means after all. Amity literally treats it as something that will mildly disappoint her parents but isn't a big deal.
So all you really have is Sport in a Storm and Labyrinth Runners as at least those episodes are using the school setting to give Hunter a chance to make friends and become a better person, theoretically, and he's important to the epic storyline so that kind of counts. If you REALLY want to stretch it, Eclipse Lake is another point of crossover before all three plotlines are mashed together starting at Clouds on the Horizon but the only justification there is that Amity is from the school stuff, though it's closer to fitting the tone and tropes of the mentor's storytelling than that of the school's.
But that is still three... In almost 38 episodes.
The last one is easily the most awkward and the one I don't have examples for: Mixing the Mentor and School plotlines. It's actually pretty easy to see why this would be hard. Both are about teaching the main character but in different ways. I think you could claim some works have done this by having a specific teacher be the primary teacher/mentor for the main character while the school is just where that mentor is accessed.
So how does TOH mix the-
Error 404.
Huh...
I'm not over exaggerating that much. Besides Teenage Abomination, VERY WEAKLY, the two never actually mix. Eda comes to Hexside once. King interacts with the Hexside kids a couple times but always in episodes or B plots that are much closer to the silly slice of life stuff than anything trying to mix the two tones. Even when it does, you get Really Small Problems where neither story is progressed and it all feels bad. Remember the closest that Eda comes to ever being a part of fixing a school problem is in Understanding Willow where she's just a spell dispenser before then being an idiot for Gus. It doesn't make her look better or play with any of the themes. The next closest is during The First Day where she is isolated entirely in her own plot so it's not actually mixing it besides the fact that Eda is at the school.
And for all three?
Well... I think the best way to point this out is that the best example of all three plots coming together is Edric deciding to expand his knowledge of magic. He actively chooses to reject what society has told him, tries a new method endorsed by the mentor figure but does at least acknowledge that his old schooling didn't prepare him for it. It's not strong and it's still hamstringing the epic storyline because he's already practicing two types of magics and so is mostly just nervous about being any good at this but it's SOMETHING.
But otherwise? The three shall never meet. Even once Clouds on the Horizon happens, they never meet. Eda literally never spends time with the Hexside Squad, especially as a whole. King is barely a part of the mentor stuff by then and is purely in the Epic territory and he's still not interacting much with them. Even in the final episode, the Hexside members are entirely on their own while Luz, Eda and King properly take out Belos, rather than everyone trying to protect Luz or having to fight by her side.
This sequestering of characters, themes, plotlines, etc. causes the show to waste a LOT of time and never have a proper focus. You never know what the point to a scene is because what it's serving is unclear, if it's serving anything at all. The show, by the end, can still have cut Amity and Hexside out entirely and lost literally nothing except much of what made the fandom engage with the show. And a reminder: Disney SUGGESTED Hexside. Dana said yes. It wasn't forced on her.
And that fits the show's entire storytelling ethos. It never feels like it is actually focusing on a single point. Instead, individual episodes will present interesting ideas or statements that immediately conflict or need to be retconned by other episodes because nothing is properly congruent. It is all conflicting against each other because each part is acting entirely independent of the rest.
It is an ever growing leviathan but rather than bringing in more of what is around it to make it stronger, it only ever hurts itself more and more as the details that once shone on its surface are made murky and unclear by all it has piled upon it until there is nothing but a rancid sludge. Unclear, unfocused and hard to describe except in the most blunt way possible. So what is the most blunt way to describe TOH?
The only factor that gets to cross all three storylines: Luz. So the only way to describe the show is "A story of a teenage girl going into a fantasy story." What type of fantasy story? Who knows. The writers didn't seem to after all so why should we?

Best friend hcs for every toh character I write for bc I am insane
Tumblr media
Eda as your best friend is certainly…. something else! She is pretty much the most wanted criminal for a long time until she gets petrified. Or almost. Eda has always gotten herself into trouble and having you tag along, when you were kids, Lily and Raine did too. Due to getting into so much trouble with her eye you guys were kids, and even as adults, your life proves to be very interesting and troublesome with her in the picture at times. In any event, Eda, while getting you into trouble a lot, was a supportive and caring best friend. Encourages you to be an individual and not give into the one coven shit, but doesn’t get mad at you if you do cause you’re your own person. You have a guaranteed worst best wingman of all time when it comes to potential love interests at least! She has a hard time opening up, especially about her curse but as time goes on she’s willing to let you know eventually but she doesn’t like you seeing her.. all owl faced lookin. She loves to joke and tease with you, but more often then not shows a sweet and caring side to you. She’s protective of you as well, and since your best friends she probably considers you like family as well. She likes to talk gossip with you as well, and Luz and King see you as an uncle/aunt figure and adore you!
Lilith as your best friend also proves to be interesting given how much she has changed over the years. Lilith, due to how she is, would go to extreme lengths for you to prove that she’s worthy of your friendship no matter how long you’ve been friends for. When you were kids going on adventures with her sister it was fun, nerding out together over dumb dorky things was how you’d spend your days. But time went on and she got too serious, too busy as well. Much of your time spent was catching up, or making inside jokes that only coven heads understood. Or that’s what she said, but who knows for sure. But s2 and onwards your relationship could be what it used to be and heal. Lilith proves to be a caring individual for you, and it’s clear your relationship is more than friendship, it’s a sibling like dynamic. She tells you her darkest secrets, she vents about her sister and her mom, and she tells you about her struggles with romance. She tells you absolutely everything she can think of to tell you, she’s also quite clingy. She will still feel the need to prove herself to you and that she’s worthy of being your best friend, but she’s getting better!
Luz as your best friend is full of adventure, as you may expect with how much this girl gets into trouble! She’s your partner in crime, (literally) and she will do anything she can to help you out when you need it. It may take her awhile to open up, but if you know her better than anyone you can easily succeed in getting her to spill her guts, you just have to recognize when something is wrong, even when she says it’s nothing. She’ll always do her best to protect and defend you, and Eda probably secretly adores you. Luz values you as a friend a lot, not only because you’re closest to her but she can count on you for anything at any time. She can rely on you to help, even if it’s completely crazy, she knows you got her back and she has yours. She is absolutely your ride or die. She likes to ramble to you about her interests, but will always listen to you putting your two cents in. She absolutely rants about amity to you, because she trusts you won’t utter a word to anyone about it. She also is very attached to you, and she may do dangerous things just to keep you safe. You are a big priority in her life, and she will do anything she can to make sure you are okay. She is determined to have you meet her mom one day, if you haven’t met her already. She knows you two would get along super well!
Tumblr media
Amity is rather complicated, if you’ve been her best friend since you guys were itty bitty, you’ve let Willow go and welcomed skara and boscha instead. You’ve seen the worst parts of amity shine through. Despite this though, you were her only genuine friend that stuck around. It’s also likely you’re very strong and don’t need any protecting, which is why her parents never intervened with your friendship. Regardless, before she met Luz and was still a jerk, she was only nice to you. She was only her true, genuine self when you were around and often you two trained together. Sometimes she’d tell you she feels like there’s something in her life that’s missing, she feels sad and alone and can’t understand why, she has you after all! As time goes by, you see her morph into the person she truly wants to be, shes finally happy with more genuine friends and even a girlfriend. She even stands up to her parents. There may have been a point in time her mom talked bad to you and she never did anything about it, but now she does. She regrets not standing up for you more often. But she works as hard as she can to make up for the wrong she’s done, you may find the once cold best friend you had was more open. You knew who she really was, but now she gets to show it to everyone. You not only train together, you play grugdby together, she reads those azura books to you, she hugs you, holds your hand when you need comfort instead of trying to punch the problem away. In more ways than one she’s changed and become the best friend you could ask for.
Willow is somebody you may feel you need to protect, at least when you’re younger. Amity may have been close to you both before your fallout, and you were always the one “stuck” with protecting her. It’s what you guys know now, but like amity you get to see willow change and become who she truly is. Who she always was but didn’t know it, a strong witch. You see her become more confident in herself, and you couldn’t be happier. She doesn’t need your protection anymore and she couldn’t be more thankful that you realize that. She knows she can always count on you, and she often protects you now. She never doubts your abilities though, and only gives you protection when you need it, but it goes both ways. You protect one another, have inside jokes only you two understand, and are there for eachother through thick and thin. You may feel jealous as Gus and Luz come into the picture, even when amity comes back. However, Willow reminds you that you are her one and only best friend, and that it’ll always be that way. Her dads adore you, and often you guys hang out one on one, even with the new friends you’ve made. Hangouts with the others are nice, but it’s just not the same as it is when it’s just you and Willow. Perhaps it’s because nobody understands you like she does, or that only Willow will remember the stupid stuff you did when you were 8, or that only Willow will understand your inside jokes. In the end, she’s that one person that truly gets you and knows you better than anyone else in this world.
Gus is a supportive best friend, he’s always got your back! If you got any problem he does his best to help, if you struggle with confidence he tries his best to help you with it as well or any other issue at hand. He is always there to remind you that he thinks you’re amazing the way you are and is constantly giving you that love yourself lesson. But as supportive as he is, he needs that back. He struggles with confidence and imposter syndrome and his entire life has been backstabbed by people he trusted. He needs you to support him, remind him to love himself, remind him how caring and forgiving he really is. You two are a fun, comedic relief duo, whilst having a sweet and genuine friendship that nobody could break. Your friendship is tested so many times, but truly nothing can break it. You’re there for eachother, and you protect him whenever he needs it. You never underestimate him, nor illusions. Perhaps what he always needed was somebody to believe in him and his magic, the way you do. His dad knows you very well by now, you have earned yourself the title of being Gus’s “bestie” and he’s always talking about you. He may even tell you about his little crush on mattholomule, in fact he tells you pretty much anything. He adores Luz and Willow all the same, but you are special to him. You get him. You were there for him before anyone else, and you never betrayed him. You remind him that he can still trust people as long as you’re around to check for the bad signs. In the same breath, Gus doesn’t trust any new friends you bring along automatically. He wants to protect you after all, and when it comes to things that are important to you he makes sure everyone knows not to ruin it for you or he will have a serious word with them.
Hunter as your best friend is interesting, it can go so many ways. If you knew him growing up, how did that work? You had to be in the emperors coven, or perhaps were the child of a coven head. In any event, you are the one to teach Hunter true friendship, even if he doesn’t completely understand it until he gets close to Willow, Gus, amity and Luz. Hunter for the longest time thinks that what you two have is romantic, until he learns that no, that’s not the case at all. Hunter doesn’t understand your relationship well for the longest time and it takes so long for him to truly open up to you. As time goes by, and I mean a lot of time, he does. He caves in, and tells you about his crush on Willow, tells you about the abuse he went through with Belos and how he thought that the treatment he got was normal, what he saw in Belos’s mind, that he’s artificial. He’s a grimwalker. And despite this all, you’re understanding. You’ve made your way into his heart enough to be trusted with such information and you never use it against him. You are truly his best pal. You guys probably have a dumb little handshake like him and Gus do, but he is always reminding you that you are truly the best friend in the world. You guys have some inside jokes as well, since yknow.. growing up in a castle together. A true connection that nobody else but you two understand, and if you aren’t the child of a coven head.. well you are now, darius has adopted you both. Hunter likes to tease and make you laugh, and Luz is truly like his little sister. Always interrupting you and hunters hangout sessions and he has to yell at her to get out and leave you two alone.
King as your best friend is interesting.. it’s likely your Gus’s age, or younger than that. How’d you two meet? Who knows. Perhaps you start living with Eda along with Luz, perhaps you’re just a friend of Luz, in any event you and king are the best of friends. He knows even when Luz leaves him behind for the human realm he has you by his side. Upon realizing he’s a Titan, he may become obsessed with the idea of keeping you safe, Luz and Eda as well. He cares for you like nobody else, and is constantly demanding hugs from you. You two often get into trouble together, given that the two of you are so young. Younger than anyone else. You two cause chaos, naturally. But it’s all fun and games. He may not always be the most vulnerable and emotional but he can be at times, perhaps he’s feeling grateful to have you that day. Or perhaps realizes one day he could lose you, perhaps that day could be soon. He hates the idea of you two being separated, but would be fully prepared to do it if it meant you’d be safe. You’ve protected him this whole time, and he just wants to protect you the same way. He wants to show his gratitude. You may find he likes to sleep at your house sometimes, and Eda will allow it since that is his best friend. It becomes a common occurrence for him to stay at your house. It could be to simply hang out and play with your plushies, or just to get away from the madness for awhile. There is true understanding and unbroken trust in your friendship and he finds solace in it. You never lie to him, not like the others may had. No matter what happens your love for one another is unconditional.
Hooty is a clingy best friend, if lilith gives anything like that away. He would hate the idea of either of you being separated, so it’s likely you live with Eda. Bonus points if you’re dating Eda. In any event, you are Hooty are the best of pals and obviously met through the owl lady herself. He is the most reassuring friend in the world, constantly telling you that you are his “skrunkly skrinkly onglydoople” whatever that means. He loves lilith, but you are his best friend for life! He’s always trying to help you out, even if you may not want it. You never stay too mad at him, since you know he means well. He values your friendship, as others find him annoying. They love him of course, but it’s nice to not be treated as a punching bag and somebody who values his companionship. Kisses for Hooty, he deserves it. He misses you whenever you leave, so you always give him a little kiss on the head before heading out. He likes traveling with you in the little Hooty bag, and makes it a goal to protect you. If you order him to protect any others he follows through without any questions. You two are a set, and must never be separated for too long. He hugs you, to the best of his ability. Very often so, and wakes you up a bit earlier than you’d like to be woken up. It’s just because he’s so excited to talk to you about things! He can’t help himself! He’s constantly around you and telling your ear off. While you two have this fun cute friendship, you two are genuinely sweet and care for one another so much.
Mattholomule as your best friend I could imagine being something similar to amity. He’s mean on the outside, but only you get to see his true self. It comes out after his second encounter with Gus. It’s likely you’re in hexside, he’d hate the idea of switching schools because he’d be leaving you so he’d eventually leave glandus and come back. He definitely talks about you a lot to Gus, and you definitely form a close friendship with Matt’s future boyfriend ;D all in all, you and Matt are good for one another. He may feel a special need to keep you safe but he knows you can handle yourself and doesn’t judge you for things. He rambles to you about his crush, about missing Steve, about how he just wishes he had better friends than Bria and the others. He’s so glad to have met you though, a good, genuine friend that cared for him. Just so you know, even though he’s just your best friend he has quite the shovel talk for any potential love interests. You’re a catch after all, you can’t settle for just some loser! He loves to poke fun and tease you, he’s definitely the kinda best friend that makes fun of you and insults you and is “mean” to you, but he’s just joking. You probably know about pretty much everything he does, because he’s very clingy and likes to spend a lot of time with you. So for whatever reason he can’t, you’ll know why. Like when he was helping tibbles scam people? Yeah you knew about that. He is pretty vulnerable with you and tells you about a lot of different things, he may have been afraid to tell you he cares about you before, but the closer the day of unity approaches the less afraid he is about telling you he loves you as a best friend.
Boscha is.. interesting.. as a best friend. You know better than anyone she’s scary and extremely complicated. For any other friend, they have to stay in line or she dumps them. But you’re different, you’re her best friend. Instead of you needing her approval, she needs yours. She goes to extreme lengths to prove herself and her strength, she goes out her way to bully anyone who she’s jealous of and could potentially get too close, and she often opts for just the two of you hanging out and leaves skara in the dark (perhaps that’s how she gets closer to Viney?) she even gossips about the people she’s jealous about to you. In the end, this all seems crazy but she does it for the sake of keeping you around. You mean so much to her, and she can’t lose you! You may find she likes to play grudgby with you, or against you for fun. Or has you watch so she can impress you, that too. She invites you to sleep at her place, she’s always posting selfies with you on penstagram, she shows she’s very clingy in weird ways. By stating you must hang out with her, but she makes it obvious she just wants to spend time with you. Opening up is hard with boscha, but you will get her to be vulnerable eventually. She will always protect you too, she’s got your back through it all. Despite how she may seem.
Skara as your best friend is nice, because deep down she’s a pretty nice girl who’s just been influenced by the wrong person, (boscha). It’s what made her a bit of a jerk for awhile, but she’s glad you are her real friend. Her best friend. And she finds solace in being able to tell you things and not feel like she’s walking on egg shells all the time. To have somebody listen to her struggles and worries and be vulnerable with. When she’s dealing with a problem you not only listen but try to help. She loves playing sports with you of any kind, even if you’re not good at it! She tries to teach you how to play better, and she’s such a supportive bestie as well. You and her probably have a secret dance or handshake you both made up together, and the both of you made it real creative! A lot of the people she was friends with weren’t her friends, just people she hung out with. So she really appreciates you, you’re her first genuine friend. And she’d go on to make more. She likes doing things like makeup and nails with you, if you’re comfortable with that of course! But if not that’s okay, maybe you can do hers? She’s totally the type to greet you with a hug, and say she misses you, even if it hasn’t been that long since the last you saw eachother. She likes being with you a lot, and if you’re in the same class definitely insists on doing everything with you. She also likes grabbing your hand at random times, usually to show you something she’s excited about! She’s eager to show you things since she hasn’t had a friend that listened to her interests. Like boscha, posts you and her on social media a lot.
Viney is a good best friend if you want somebody to listen to you, she’s a good listener. A good support group and supports your interests and hobbies, so much so she involves herself in them. She’s definitely nd so she totally understands the feeling when people don’t listen to her personal interests. The feeling of being an outsider and being different is an all too familiar feeling and she’d never want you to feel that way. She may not post on social media much, but whenever she does you’re always on there. Her social media accounts might as well be yours, because it sure looks like it. There’s only pictures of you, or pictures of you and her. She’s the kinda friend to jokingly flirt with you, but is strictly joking lol. She does this to jerbo too. Speaking of, the two of you are probably good friends as well. She trusts you a lot, and if you take multiple tracks like she does there’s a automatic closer connection between the two of you. If you ever get hurt, she’s likely with you. She’s quite clingy, and spends most of her time with you and prioritizes your friendship. However, as a result of her pretty much always being around, she can heal you at anytime! You never have to worry about being hurt and can make as many reckless decisions as you please! Also, imagine a cute willow and amity moment between you two. She would love it if you did her hair sometime.
Tumblr media
Edric is a cool best friend to have, but he probably keeps you a secret from his parents. Even if he knows they’d like you, he isn’t taking any chances! We know what his parents did to mittens, who knows what they did to Edric too! In any event, the guy adores you. Like, seriously doesn’t shut up about you. Warning though, you may have to be his wingman… a lot. He definitely invites you to goof off with him and his sister Emira, to have some fun and cause some chaos. Truth be told he doesn’t make many friends, there are multiple reasons for that. He’s not considered strong due to being an illusionist, and considered too goofy to spend time with. Could also be because it’s naturally hard for blights to make too many friends. Or something like that. In any event, he’s just really happy he gets a best friend cause he doesn’t get many friends, not to mention ones he feels close to. He definitely opens up to you about his insecurities and wanting to be taken more seriously, and his fear of being alone. He’s glad he at least has you, who he knows won’t leave him. Or at least, he hopes so. He likes to tease you, and if you’re interested will try to be a wingman for you anytime. Even if it happens to be Emira.. especially if it’s Emira! He’d be so happy to be your “bro in law” but for real. He’s got your back always, and is usually casual with physical touch, so he tends to wrap an arm around your shoulders in a friendly manner. He can get annoying with how clingy he is, forgive him.
Emira loves to spend time with you. To her dismay, her brother tries to tag along with you both. She loves her brother, but she’s always with the guy. She really doesn’t wanna be those two twins that never leave each others side and still wear the same clothes when they’re like 80 because then it stops being cute >;( for real though loves spending as much time as she can with you. She can heal now, so expect that from her if you ever get into trouble. But hey, she loves trouble! So you two get into tons of mischief together. Like Ed, would not want her parents knowing about you. They’d think you’re a bad influence, and she can’t have that. So unfortunately, as much as she wants to sleep at your house every weekend she cannot. She is another one to tease her best friend, in good fun of course. She tries not to take it too far. For your birthday she definitely got you your own stone to cover your appearance on the days you feel gross or lazy. Just for you! Believe it or not though, Emira is protective. She wants you to be safe, and while it’s not obvious she’s protective given the way she is, it comes out from time to time. If somebody ever made fun of you and it wasn’t a joke or out of pure fun, or the two of you weren’t really friends at all, you better get ready for protective Emira. You saw amity get protective of Luz when it came to odalia, so it’s kinda like that. She goes right back to her good old self though!
The collector is such a fun and chaotic best friend, he’s very eager to become close with people and have the time of their life, but how’d you two meet anyway? I’m going with the idea you’re a god like entity yourself, but in any event! They love pulling pranks on you, believe it or not! What those kinda pranks entail? Well, obviously destroying your part of the realm>:( he just killed like 5 people!!! But don’t worry! He can fix it! Truth is, they will do anything to keep you around and they crave companionship. Any pranks pulled are fixable and they try not to go too far. He appreciates having somebody that’s genuine, he’s very new to it. He’s used to people lying to them unfortunately. However, they don’t get any trust issues because of it believe it or not. A friendship with him is unique, and often involves playing his favorite games. He cares about you though, and is excited by any new games you bring to the table. They would appreciate it if you played with him all day and all night long. Whenever you don’t, he claims you’re being soooo boringggg. He gets excited whenever you’re around, which can never be too good lol. They like the reminder that they are no longer in a prison so hugs and physical touches are often with them and are very casual! He likes to tease you, in a similar fashion he did with Belos but it’s significantly less taunting and more gentle almost. Like they don’t mean it and it’s obvious.
Eberwolf is such a funky little bestie, however you met does not matter. Eberwolf is almost always clinging off of your shoulder. Like the pikachu to your ash, because that’s truly what it is. Words do not ever need to be spoken with them, but they aren’t ever anyway. You understand them quite well, more than most. They often use sign language to communicate things with you, something only you took the time to learn. But even so, you can still understand their little growls, sniffs, and other animalistic noises. But a relationship does not need speaking or any form of communication, not always. The closeness you share is eminent, and they make it clear they care for you and their love for you is unconditional. They cherish you, and they want to stop the day of unity, not just for darius and the rest of the world, but most of all for you. They don’t want you to die, they care for you so much and they want you to live a king and happy life. The moment they realize things are going wrong on the day of unity, you’re the first thing to pop into their head. That one day off they get every year, they use it to see you. They spend most of any time off they get to spend time with you. They’re quite clingy, for somebody who can’t spend too much time with you. Especially if you aren’t in the emperors coven. They would be pretty quiet about the rebellion, not wanting to push you away. You’re important to them after all, and they’d do anything to keep you around. Funny little tidbit but they like biting you and darius, apparently they’re love bites though =) or that’s what they claim, anyways.
Raine has been your best friend since you were kids. And boy how exciting is was when they finally transferred to hexside with you! How’d you two meet? Both of y’all’s parents are friends, that’s what I’m going with. In any event, you and Raine were always close. They tend to talk about nerdy things with you, and they’re very validating and encouraging of you. They often encourage you to do what you want. Whether that means feeding into this “corrupt” system as Eda puts it, or being your own individual person and doing your own thing. They always supported whatever you did. It’s likely you were friends with Eda too, and it was so exciting to see them fall in love with Eda and finally date her. Nowadays, different story. But you know the feelings are still there, so you often tease them. They will definitely tease you back if you ever get a crush. The more you age the less you two can spend time together, but your closeness never changes. You two joke around with one another casually, have inside jokes, talk about things you wouldn’t talk about to anyone else and you are the first to find out about their little rebellion. They trust you that much, and they know you wouldn’t ever betray them. Gives you the biggest hug before the day of unity. They fight to keep you safe, and they try hard to protect you. For awhile may push you away like they did with Eda to keep you safe but it ends up backfiring on them. It only makes you closer. In the end, they make it clear they still care for you so much.
Darius as your best friend is… certainly something. He is always trying to make sure you don’t look like a bum, he may have quite the mouth about your taste in fashion. You’re gorgeous, so at least try to dress like you are. He is very protective of the people he cares for, that includes you of course. If your safety is ever in jeopardy he drops everything in order to keep you protected. The rare times he’s nervous, he looks at you and calms down, or the rare times he feels cocky but can’t do anything about it he looks at you with a smug look. Unspoken interactions between you both happen all the time, and if you were friends as kids it only started there. He definitely got closer with you after his fallout with odalia and alador, and appreciates the closeness. Totally talks shit about alador all the time to you, and loves to gossip. Yes, he’s a full grown adult. What about it? He will talk shit to somebody’s face, whispering loudly in your ear about adrian and he’s just right there scowling at you both. He’s very annoying, and while he never admits to being a clingy bitch he is. Being a coven head is demanding and difficult, and he likes spending any free time he can with you. Often finds amazing excuses to do so. He’s a good liar after all. You may not feel as close as you used to, because he has become so buys nowadays but your friendship is still strong. And it shows with the rebellion he tells you about. At first he keeps it to himself, wanting to protect you. In the end though, it comes out. Like word vomit. And now you’re helping, and spending time together again and being close and he couldn’t be happier. He needs this plan to succeed, so that you and him can continue spending your days together.
Alador as a best friend is also very complicated, due to how things become after so long. You two were good friends during hexside, and while the two of you remain close he has isolated himself from darius and everyone other than you and his girlfriend. But even then, it seems like she doesn’t like you very much. The closeness between you two seems to dissipate. You still talk, but it doesn’t feel the same. It’s just catch up to be perfectly honest, and you eventually decide the only person that can help alador is himself. You can’t keep trying to convince him his wife is no good for him. But eventually he sees through the bullshit, but even beforehand does try to connect with you better. Even moreso upon that wonderful divorce. You two become close again, and form a bond similar to the bond you had when you were kids. It feels like what it used to feel like, where you both teased one another and had a fun time and didn’t have to worry about the rest of the world and he could finally get some rest. He can finally spend time with you, and his kids. Regardless of the lack of closeness you two had for awhile, alador is very protective and remains that way for many of the people in his life that he cares for deeply. You are of course not an exception to this rule, and he tries very hard to make up for his wrongs in your relationship. He’s definitely a dad best friend so you may find he likes to drink alcohol and watch sports games with you, sorry bud.
Adrian as a best friend is tiring, the guy is so clingy. He should be more busy as a coven head but somehow he just.. is not.. and hes partially doing it cause he likes being around you but mainly doing it to annoy you. As a best friend he’s very teasing, and he often just complains about how boring it’s been without you around. He is another one for gossiping despite being an adult man who should be more concerned about other matters but he’s more worried about his fellow coven heads dick size. In all seriousness though he’s annoying. Like darius will definitely judge your fashion sense and get you the best clothes imaginable. He also has a tendency to have his tail around your leg. He really can’t help it to be honest, and while he claims his tail has a mind of its own, that’s kinda true but.. shrug? The reason his tail is always on your leg is due to his clinginess but not wanting to hug you and make it obvious, it can also be due to protectiveness and other matters. It’s not something he has control of, it just happens but there’s a reason it happens. And he’s almost never vulnerable with you but after that gus experience, he definitely needs some comfort after that. Just don’t mention it to anyone, for real. While a very needy best friend, tries to be there for you too.. subtle about it though of course! He’s one to flirt with you playfully, mainly because it annoys you and you’ll find it gross lmao.
Steve as a best friend is fun, the guy is pretty chill. Like seriously cool with pretty much anything, he goes to any of your events and is able to spend any time off with you. Even when it’s not his day off? Enjoys spending his time with you, like a lot. You two were always really close, even before the emperors coven. It’s hard not to get along with such a chill and friendly guy, he’s genuinely sweet and helps you with your problems and has good advice. He has some problems himself, fearing being just some guy and being too boring, too lame, etc. he doesn’t want to be like that. He’s glad to have a best friend to remind him he’s unique in his own way. He adores you and mattholomule more than anything, so of course he’s down for stoping the day of unity and making sure the both of you are safe. He adores you both so much! Steve is the kinda guy to share clothes, share his jacket when you’re cold. To be a good support system and to get you a therapist if you need it, or elixirs anytime you need them. Anything you need, he’s got it and he’s instant about it. Because you’re a huge priority in his life. Your relationship is cut and clean, simple to understand. You almost never have any fights with this guy because he’s genuinely that great but he’s so humble and doesn’t think he is. If your down, he’d do your nails and you’d do his. And he totally takes you for rides on his bike to just fuck around and have some fun.

Since my post about what I want for season 3 is blowing up I thought I’d try my hand at what happens in my head for Season 3 w/ Storm, her cousin, & Arya included:
Camila takes in all seven of Luz’s friends
They all have bunk beds and share a room
They’re super chaotic too and always up past their bedtime
Homework is done at the kitchen table
Everyone teases Storm for liking Ava
When she does realize she likes Ava she’s in the room and just goes “oh shit” to witch everyone looks at her
She legit just responds with “fuck, I’m a lesbian”
Arya is very flirty towards Hunter but he’s so dense and doesn’t realize she likes him even when she goes “Oh Hunter, darling~”
Storm cuts her hair almost immediately after arriving in the human realm
She picks up guitar
Aralyn starts stressing like Lilith big time
Once they dares Hunter to do the worm across the room but he didn’t know what it was so Storm did it instead
Storm keeps basically her version of Marcy’s journal, but y’know, owl house, human realm, and her
Everyone teases her when she reveals that her middle name is Evangeline
They all love and fear Camila
Once Willow tried to make Camila a birthday bouquet using plant magic but she went overboard and the whole house became a jungle
So they all just baked her a cake instead
In the human realm no one knows what happened to King
Raine and Eda get back together
Alador uses the infamous Stolas line from the new episode “THAT WAS THE SOUND OF A FUCKING DIVORCE!” on Odalia
Raine and Eda get engaged
For those that went to the human realm and King, they have a little tombstone with all their names on it
Eda visits it often and wallows in her remorse and guilt
Raine had to reassure her
She goes mama mode X10,000 and basically adopts all the kids left
Lilith figures out how to go Harpy mode
Eda gets a prosthetic arm designed by Alador
The Collector is literally just being a weird kid
In the human realm all the witches have to cover their ears and one day out of literally nowhere Stan shows up for Storm
Now she spends a day every other week with him
Flapjack keeps being a cutie
Storm keeps a locket with pictures of her and Eda in it
She loves Guns N Roses
Gus is obsessed with giraffes
He gets a troublemaker side and uses illusions for pranks
Amity is worried about the twins and her dad but not Odalia
Gus helps everyone forge illegal documents with his illusion magic
Camila remembers all the kids (including Vee)’s specific likes and dislikes
Lots of family photos with the witches and Vee get put up on the mantle
Luz & Storm take up major leadership roles
Ed & Em look like their natural selves, no more magic to make them look different
Alador spends more time with the twins
Even Darius is reassuring Eda that she didn’t fail the kids and King
King keeps tricking the collector so that they do what he wants in order to find a way back to the human realm and save the group
Storm starts randomly dancing a lot
If anyone calls her “Eva” or by her middle name she’ll riot
Camila doesn’t play favorites
The kids have definitely gotten hurt on the bunk beds before but it’s the only option Camila can think of
The gang will FaceTime each other put food up to the camera and “feed” each other
Luz’s palisman hatches
Hunter loves Zuko
Boscha turns around and turns out to not be so bad
Hooty is more sad but still Hooty
Storm likes Mickey Mouse because his voice reminds her of Hooty’s
She tried doing a Hooty impression once and everyone recorded her
Storm starts letting people call her Stormie and starts wearing her glasses rather than her contacts if only so she can feel more connected to Raine and Eda
Eda and Raine talk a lot about raising Storm together and want to make sure she approves before they get married
Eda opens up a teeny bit about Stan and tells Raine how he really does care about Storm and how she loves how easily he makes her smile and laugh
Bunk bed switching definitely happens in the middle of the night
How people say “I’m gonna get you” to like little kids or animals in silly goofy mood voice is Storm whenever she says “I’m gonna commit arson” she also gets in the crab pose to say that
Storm learns how to play poker and Hexes Hold ‘Em
Bedtime stories are a must for the mothers in both realms and so are bedtime forehead kisses
Eda goes through a lot of old photo albums of little Storm with Raine

The new girl
So it took 3 years later, all was well. Boiling Isles was saved, Luz has Eda and King with her and Vee and her mother of course and Amity Willow and Gus visited her 2 or 3 times a week. Hunter had stayed with Luz in the human realm to learn more about his past, but because he was theoretically related to Philip, he usually had to leave for his duties as the official Governor Hunter with Eda and Lilith as helpers. Boiling Isles was changing more and more it was a peaceful place and yes the symbols had been removed now everyone could control what they wanted. Gus Amity and Luz were still in high school, you wonder how they saw each other so rarely? well..luz had done one semester each year, one semester on earth and one semester in the Boiling Isles. It wasn't that practical but still she only had a year left and quite a lot to recover her luck is that she had Vee and Hunter helping her with math and astrology and a little arithmetic. And on the magic side, Luz trained for that every day, occasionally having an adventure with her favorite gang. One day when Luz was returning from high school, she passed by that old and shabby house. Every time she looked at it, she remembered all the adventures she had spent in that dreamland and her desire to become a witch only grew over the years, there was nothing that would hold her back. While staring at the door she saw a light, she went to see what it was but when she opened the door she didn'tsee anything unusual so she closed it and continued on her way.
When she got home it was crazy, she could hear screams and there was coke everywhere, Luz was just petrified but she was able to whistle and the noise stopped instantly.
Hunter's blond hair peeked out from behind the kitchen door and a chef's hat at the window.
o h-hey Luz...you um went out earlier huh? *Hunter appears from behind the door, dirty with coke and with a grim face of guilt hidden behind a smile and sweat
Gosh what did you two do again? if mom sees this she will faint!
well we wanted to actually try to cook something, you know, for tonight? *Vee stands up, just as full of energy*
ok fine let me put on an apron and help you *said Luz*
Thanks Luz we are a disaster *Hunter said*
more him *said Vee laughing*
*Later*
I'm out I can't do this anywhere *said Luz*
me too*said Hunter*
I will never cook again in my entire life *said Vee*
All 3 were passed out on the couch, they were dirty and tired
Luz?
what's up now vee
what do we do with guests?
OH SHIT I TOTALLY FORGET ABOUT THEM *Luz instantly gets up from the couch *
that's bad, we look horrible and I need to finish some papers from the castle until tomorrow *Hunter gets up instantly*
ok um.. I'm going to wash myself so that when they come I'll hang out with them until you get settled and after they leave we'll help you with the documents, okay? come on come on we don't have much time
they complied and the evening turned out perfectly. No matter how tired they were, none of them had let anything show. After they left, as promised, Luz and Vee helped Hunter with the documents and all 3 fell dead from exhaustion, the bad part was that Luz had to finish some homework for you tomorrow and Luz was at the last deviation. Luz had a big problem with waking up in the morning and how tired she had been in the afternoon, she had forgotten her homework. Luz and Vee were not at the same school and as usual Luz was eager to adapt sometimes the first bullying but she doesn't care because she finally had what she wanted a real family that really understood her. He only cared about Amity, Gus and Willow and the good friendship they had.
Oh it was her, the baddest girl in the whole school, not as bad as Belos by any means but quite bad and intimidating, she liked to make fun of Luz, and when Luz ignored her then the real fun started. She usually liked to torture her even beating her a few times. But that doesn't mean she doesn't fight, and even though they fought so many times and she and Luz got hurt quite badly, she was the director's daughter and Luz couldn't really do anything about it. Yes, she had protested a few times, but it wasn't enough. Today was one of those days where she had to put her pretty face on, Katlin had challenged her to a match ofc she doesn't want to go but she was threatened that her mother would lose her job so she had to do But she will do it without magic, no help, it's just between them, not even Vee or Hunter or her mother knew what she was doing and why she was late for dinner in that evening. But she had managed to beat her so badly that she had managed to put fear into her, of course she didn't escape without a broken nose, a cut lip and a few bruises. He had bruises all over his body but she could stand. All the way she didn't know how to tell them what happened because they would be alarmed, but if she didn't come they would be more alarmed. Outside, she was covered in mud and her face was covered in blood, but at least she had managed to save her mother and to fight 1 on 1 without magic, it seems that all the training with Hunter had paid off.
when she opened the door she saw Hunter Vee Camila Willow Gus and Amity waiting for her. When Luz saw them, she froze, and when they saw her, they looked scared.
G-Guys...what are you doing here? *said Luz still standing in the door*
LUZ! OMG WHAT'S HAPPENED WITH YOU?!*Amity comes towards her and hugs her*
oh hey Sweet Potato *Luz mutters*
Mija, what's happening?! who did this to you??
it's not important, mother, I'm fine *said Luz*
everyone was stirring around her, only Hunter was sitting in a thoughtful and suspicious corner of the crowd
Guys look I'm Happy You are here but I need to rest and make a shawore *said Luz getting up from the middle of the crowd and crawling to the stairs*
let me help you *says Willow*
No, I'm fine, thanks*she had gone upstairs*
That evening none of them went back and they waited to see how Luz felt. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't sleep, the bruises hurt her, but she had peace in her heart.
Lost in thought, looking out the window, she hadn't heard the knock on the door, so when the door opened, she got scared
It was her, wasn't she? *Hunter's voice came from the darkness of her room

love how the owl house confirmed the belos is philip theory and you’d think i wouldnt instantly have more things im confused about. you’d also be horribly wrong dfghjhgf
#LIKE-?? since its confirmed officially that they're The Same that made me think about 'well shit that means hes been there since the 1600s'#but then i remembered how toh is set in like modern day so im just-?? how is he still alive i dont- human lifespans are Not that long so#like how has he not died somehow someway. and then i was like 'maybe the palisman thing is whats been keeping him alive??' since we see him#doing that shit even back when lilith and luz went back in time and shit but then its like- how would that keep him alive?? and now im just-#they had that thing w/ the palismen spirit thingy in his mindscape but like. tbh im so confused about that like?? is it like a curse thing??#like we can figure that whatever it is belos is doing is why that thing exists but like. that doesnt explain the how of it and it sure as#hell doesnt explain WHY he does that. like sure i get him wanting to destroy them given his shit about magic especially 'wild' magic but#i'd think if he *just* wanted to destroy them he wouldnt do the... thing he does??? and now im just- why? does he do that???#like ik his motivations are basically just 'i am an evil terrible shitty person' which like- that checks out that makes sense! but like#im still confused about these other things now. like now that the Big questions of like- 'who actually is belos' and 'what are his exact#motives and goals' have been cleared up its like my brain instantly went 'HEY WHAT ABOUT THESE OTHER CONFUSING THINGS THIS EPISODE DIDNT#EXPLAIN' 'cause like- i dont have any real lingering questions with anything else from this episode i think it was all explained very#clearly (but also. what exactly is a grimwalker. like what exactly Is that). ...except these two things relating to belos#and like im Sure they'll clarify it somehow at some point but for now im just- ??? how is this happening and what is happening in relation#to these very specific things??#like unless i just completely missed something i dunno sdfghgfds#the owl house spoilers#sorry if this is incoherent also im no good at putting thoughts into words DFGHGFD

Comic description under the cut.
Eda threw a heavy arm over Lilith’s shoulders and she rocked forward. Such a marked difference from how her sister had so carefully held the human not minutes before, but she wouldn’t complain; Eda was touching her with affection. She hadn’t thought she would ever do that again.
“So, sis, you finally betrayed Belos! Any big plans?”
Oh, Titan, she had betrayed Belos. She hadn’t even thought about it, she just turned around and spat in his face. “I haven’t thought that far ahead.”
Oh, Titan, she had betrayed Belos. She hadn’t even thought about it, she just turned around and spat in his face. “I haven’t thought that far ahead.”
“Now that you’re a fugitive from the law, the sky’s the limit!” Eda threw her arm out in a grand gesture, but Lilith looked down. She needed to plan, not indulge in Eda’s aimless drifting.
“Now that you’re a fugitive from the law, the sky’s the limit!” Eda threw her arm out in a grand gesture, but Lilith looked down. She needed to plan, not indulge in Eda’s aimless drifting.
“Belos must have my house surrounded.”
“Belos must have my house surrounded.”
“You can always lay low here until the heat is off.”
“Does this mean that Lilith is a friend now?” The bird tube looped around them, loose and at a respectable distance, but Lilith didn’t miss the implied threat.
“Provisionally. It’s up to you to keep an eye on her.” Eda winked and pointed at her house demon. And, oh. That was nice to hear. Even that horrid bird tube looked kinda cute when he wasn’t leading a macabre tea party.
“Aye aye!”
Never mind, the bird tube was still awful. He curled around to look up at her and Lilith turned away, pretending that the foul thing didn’t exist.
“Thank you, Eda. I won’t stay long. The enchantment on my house is good, but if Belos takes a personal interest... I think I’ll try moving it tonight.”
“Does that mean your house has legs too!?” Lilith had almost forgotten about the little human. She was cute, with her bright eyes and barely restrained energy. Like the Eda she remembered from childhood, before everything went sideways.
“Of course, all Clawthorne houses have legs. Did you think Eda came up with the spell by herself? It’s an old family enchantment, passed down from mother to daughter for generations.” It was nice how Eda kept her arm around her shoulders, light and easy now, even as Lilith turned to address the kid.
“Wow! I have history!” It was less nice how the bird tube kept wiggling around her, his breath rancid as it washed over her face.
She pushed him away, straining against his unnatural strength. Eda, the shit, just laughed at her. “Of course, most of us have much more dignified houses.”
The bird hissed at her, spitting and ruffled, and lunged for her face. Eda chose that moment to step away and Lilith swore as she used both hands to try and hold the tube back.
“Don’t listen to her, kid. Clawthornes have never had ‘dignity’—why, great-great-whatever grandma, who did invent the spell, had a chicken house she used to take on walks through the human realm.”
“You’re related to Baba Yaga?” the human yelled. She seemed to do a lot of yelling.
Baba the what? Lilith didn’t have time to parse through that gibberish; the bird was starting to coil around her like a constrictor.
“Who? Ah, never mind, you’re making that nerd face again. C’mon Lili, stop playing with Hooty and I’ll give you a tour.”
Playing with Hooty? He relaxed in her grip and she cautiously let go, following Eda while keeping a wary eye on the damn tube that dogged her every move.
Eda really did give her a tour, starting from the living room and making her way deeper and deeper into the house where everything grew more and more cluttered and spilled out into the halls. Even the room she said was Luz’s was full of shit that Lilith was certain didn’t belong to the human. There was barely enough room for the sleeping bag on the floor, which, really Eda? Really? Eda didn’t seem to think anything was amiss with her hoarding, even after she self described multiple rooms as junk rooms. After the third, Lilith grabbed Eda by the upper arm and halted her in her tracks.
“How many junk rooms do you have?”
“Oh, I don’t know, maybe four? Five?”
In unison, the human and the demon spoke, their voices long suffering, “Seven.” That seemed like a more accurate count.
“Can we skip the next four for my sanity?” Lilith asked.
Eda rolled her eyes. “Ugh, fine.”
She skipped an entire floor of her tour, glossed over the bathroom (it must have been horrifying) and King’s room (the door was closed and King didn’t look too impressed with the idea of showing off his stuff, his little body draped over Luz’s shoulder as he whined about being bored), before stopping at a set of massive doors. “And finally, my room!”
“Really, Eda? No guest rooms?” Lilith asked. Seven junk rooms and yet no spare bed. The priorities her sister had.
“I had guest rooms, but then I got two freeloaders.” She crossed her arms and gave Lilith a deadpan look right back.
“You have your apprentice sleeping on the floor,” Lilith pointed out.
“Whatever, humans like sleeping on the floor.” Eda looked away, the faint traces of a blush on her face, and Lilith felt a smirk cross her own.
She was betrayed by her apprentice. “We kinda don’t.”
Eda coughed. “As I was saying, this is my room.” She pushed the door open and Lilith stepped past her. She walked into the middle of the room which, unsurprisingly, was cluttered. By this point, it was even unsurprising that Eda had a giant nest in the middle of the room.
“Do you own any beds?” Lilith asked. “Don’t you think this is taking the owl lady bit too far?”
“Hey, don’t knock it until you try it, sister. Nests are very comfortable.” Eda looked so annoyingly smug, that look that always made Lilith want to punch her when they were teenagers. She still kind of wanted to punch Eda.
But, still, when in Rome. “Uh, okay,” Lilith said and she gingerly lifted one foot to climb into the nest, teetering dangerously on one heeled boot. A hand smacked her in the middle of the back, sending her flying, and Eda cackled behind her.
“Quit your pussyfooting!”
Despite her landing, the nest was actually... comfortable. In a weird, branchy way. The walls were comforting and it smelled like Eda, like safety, like home.
“Oh. This isn’t as bad as I thought,” Lilith said. “It’s actually kind of soothing?” Her eyes fluttered shut. “I think, I think I’m going to rest my eyes for a bit.”
Lilith was still and Luz cocked her head, peering down at her. She couldn’t actually be asleep, not with Eda laughing obnoxiously. But she didn’t stir, even when Eda’s laughter was interrupted by a large yawn.
“Aw, fuck,” Eda said. “I was going to make her sleep on the couch.”
Eda looked exhausted herself, the bags under her eyes heavier than usual, the makeup wearing thin after the long, long day they just had. Luz fretted, but at least she just looked tired, not feathery, as she dropped down to sit at the edge of the nest before rolling inside.
“Eh, it’s a big nest,” she said and curled up back to back with her sister and instantly fell asleep.
Luz looked at King. “Do you think it’s actually comfortable or is this just a curse thing?”
King’s tail wagged and his eyes sparkled. “I don’t know, why don’t you try it?”
Well, that was an obvious trap if Luz had ever seen one. Still, it was just a nest and it was only Eda, what was the worst that would happen? Being poked in the backside by a twig?
Luz jumped in, totally badass and swinging her leg up and over the edge of the nest. “Parkour!” She flopped down on her stomach, then wiggled around to look up at King.
“It’s softer than it looks. I think the owlbeast sheds a looo—” there was a hand grabbing her, clawed and digging into her side. Luz screamed and strained to look behind her while King, the shit, just laughed. It was Eda holding her, but her eyes were closed and she was mumbling, clearly asleep and not thinking about modulating her unnatural strength. Luz was pulled flush up against her and she choked out, “King! Help me!”
“Luz,” Eda said, her words clear for once, “stop struggling!”
At least she knew who Luz was; she wasn’t going to get intentionally hurt. Unintentionally, however, Luz was being crushed as Eda pulled her beneath her body.
King hopped down into the nest, standing just outside of Luz’s reach. “Yeah, Eda’s a sleep cuddler.”
“King!” Luz gasped out. That was not helpful knowledge now when Eda was in the middle of cuddling her to death.
“No, Luz, stay behind me, I need to protect you,” Eda mumbled into Luz’s ear. Luz’s heart melted a bit; such sweet words from a caustic woman. A caustic woman who currently didn’t want Luz to breathe and Luz tried to squirm out of her grasp.
King ignored them both and just circled in front of Luz, kneading at her cape until he was comfortable and curled up at her side. Luz gave up her escape attempt and Eda settled down behind her, her arm loosening its grasp on Luz until it just fell heavily over her side.
King opened one eye and looked back at Luz. “Luz, hold me, it’s nap time.” With a sigh, Luz threw her arm over King. There’s no way she could get out while squashed between the two of them; she would just have to spend the night in the nest.
Hooty hadn’t forgotten his directive. Though he let Eda take over during the tour, he knew his duty and his duty was to watch Lilith like a hawk. An owl. A hawk-owl. He slithered inside through the open window and looked down on them all, asleep, Lilith’s face tucked into Eda’s armpit and Eda’s arm over her face. They all looked so warm and happy and together sleeping like that. They liked how Eda was sprawled on top of them, even if she was snoring and drooling.
Hooty could make them warmer. They would like more cuddling and Hooty was nothing if not an excellent cuddler. Carefully, he coiled his body around the nest, working upwards until he formed a nice, cozy cone. He was pleased; they would like this and he was part of their family.
Then claws dug into his sides and he screeched in pain, boots kicking him and people screaming and it was chaos, not nice and not peaceful and not cuddly at all.

Maternal Feelings
There she was.
Her tiny granddaughter.
She had a bit lighter skin than Luz and just about Amity’s hair color. And she was so damn tiny.
Eda found herself getting scared, suddenly. This was a really small kid. This was like, a stupidly small child. She would not hold that baby for any number of snails.
---
Eda meets her newborn grandddaughter for the first time.
I don't know man I'm just chucking out words rn like I'm running from something.
But I had this thought of Eda meeting a very small child and my stupid brain was like "We can do that instead of sleeping" xD
So yeah, have this incredibly fluffy oneshot about Eda coming to terms with her Momma feelings and adjusting to being a grandma.
I just really wanted Eda to get emotional over a baby
Don't even ask Idk
Have fun reading! <3
Ao3 / FF.net
---
Eda had never been the most maternal.
Not in her youth, not when she had found King, and not when she had sort of adopted and sheltered Luz until she had graduated and been able to stand on her own two feet.
Not when King had taken her name and not when Amity had asked her for Luz’s hand, which had in truth just been a mockery of her parents’ traditions and had given Eda nothing more than an excuse to drink some apple blood with her future daughter-in-law.
Of course, she had seen Luz as a daughter at some point, had called herself her mother, had cared for her.
She had made their meals, had helped Luz with the homework – even if that had disgusted her – she had taught Luz and King everything she knew, she had tucked King in, cared for Luz when she had gotten sick or sad. She had of course done everything in her power to make sure her kids were content and happy.
That didn’t mean she had felt as though she was a mother. She had liked pretending to be the sort of crazy aunt, in charge of all the bad decisions.
But she had never seen herself as maternal.
Well, she supposed that came from not really setting any rules. When she had been younger, she had always been under the impression that mothers had to set rules, educate their children, and raise them. She had never really raised King or Luz.
She had just sort of made them laugh, given them food, and then they hadn’t left anymore. Like the free-loaders they were. Kind of like pests, actually.
It had always made them laugh if she had called them that. It had made her laugh.
Because she loved them, of course. She didn’t know love alone could turn her, the irresponsible, free-spirited wild witch a mother.
She supposed she had been a mother for King and Luz. Without setting rules, without all the raising stuff. She supposed her kids had turned her the littlest bit maternal.
Was it normal for friends to stay up at night and change the cold applications on Luz’s forehead in the hopes of bringing her fever down? Was it called caring and loving when she went out of her way to get King’s favorite toy, to get Luz the food she could actually digest, to make sure King was free of fleas and bathed and tucked in at night?
Did it make her a mother if she risked her own life to ensure they could lead a happy life?
Eda never knew the line between loving, as friends, and maternal.
Raine had started calling her out on her maternal feelings once she got the littlest bit protective of Luz.
Well, it wasn’t her fault that everything made her jump after Belos had almost – had, in fact – killed Luz on the day of unity. It wasn’t her fault that she woke up at night in a cold sweat, rushing to check on her daughter in the room next to hers sleeping peacefully, only to return to a sleepy Raine dazedly grinning at her with a smug, shit-eating expression of “Told you so”.
Every time, they would roll over their mattress in her nest and wrap an arm around her waist and tell her she was such a sweet mother.
Well, she was. She was the Momma of the Owl House.
But maternal?
Eda supposed she was.
After all, even if friends would do the same as her, a mother would make sure everything stayed safe and protected in her house. Making sure there was food on the table that Luz could eat. Making sure King was feeling loved, despite having discovered his past.
Making sure Luz had all her school materials, spending money on icky, stupid books. Giving her an allowance. Keeping her and King safe.
Well, Eda had never really tried finding a definition for maternal. All the love she had gained for King and Luz had just been that to her – love. And it had been enough.
She had loved calling herself Momma and had loved treating Luz like her daughter and King like her son, and she had loved calling them her kids. She just supposed the word itself – maternal – didn’t exactly describe what she was. She, herself, as Eda the Owl Lady, the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles, an agent of chaos and the most daring criminal history had ever seen.
She had just assumed a mother wouldn’t call herself these titles.
Seemed like her view of a mother had been wrong.
Any person could be a mother, a parent, a father, or anything remotely close to this. And she supposed, caring for Luz and King, taking them in, giving them food, kind of did make her a maternal person, while never losing her pride as a criminal and generally irresponsible person.
A mother.
Well, whatever a mother was, or whatever maternal feelings were, or whatever she defined herself at and whatever she did for Luz and King.
Here she found herself, fidgeting next to her spouse, her excited teenage son in tow who was already towering over her height, in front of the healer’s coven building.
Whatever a mother was, she would probably feel that way. Well, Camila – Luz’s other mother – next to her other side was buzzing in excitement just as much as she was. The two women exchanged a glance before Camila gave her a small smile and she felt Raine taking her hand.
King gave a groan when he finally placed his claws on Eda’s and Camila’s shoulders and pushed them up the three steps into the main entrance, rolling his eyes.
After Belos had been taken down – after he had actually very much killed Luz, Eda had just brought her back to life – Luz and her friends had taken on graduation while the Boiling Isles had experienced a change in the government. Covens were no longer used to steal or limit magic. Instead, they had been used as a way to form a working parliament, with an elected group of government heads. After the gang had graduated, Luz had worked towards getting a way back home while helping establish a stable government form from the makeshift temporary one they had managed to create after Belos’ defeat. Luz had actually helped them quite a bit by telling of experiences made in the human realm, where politics were apparently a lot more twisted than here on the Isles.
Eda and Lilith had been elected as part of the group forming the government, even if Eda had dropped out after one or two periods, while her sister had taken charge like it had been the most natural thing for her.
Discovering that politics hadn’t really been up to her alley – she was way more interested in rebellions than anything else – she had begun building a legal business since she didn’t have to fear being captured anymore. It had gone pretty well.
Raine had started working in the government as well as Amity, while Luz had started working to mastering all forms of glyphs she could find, admitting her studies to the academics, and shortly after, had been offered to become a teacher at Hexside by Bump to teach magicless witches and demons glyph magic.
After traveling the Isles and working on her studies, Luz had accepted and finally settled down with Amity. It really hadn’t been a surprise to Eda when Amity had come to her and Raine with a ring and asked them to marry Eda’s daughter.
After already asking Camila that is.
Eda faintly felt King pushing her into the cool building that smelled like disinfectant – a nifty cleaning drug from the human realm that Luz had introduced them to – before hearing herself asking the receptionist where the room of the Noceda-Blights was.
A kind of bored-looking demon sighed and looked the room number up in the list, before pointing them in the direction. Again, Eda’s feet felt like they had been planted into the tiles below her.
Only after Raine gave her a light push, she moved again.
So, the world now had some sort of order. Nobody was forced into covens anymore, and the coven seals had been removed, setting the magic free again.
Raine and she had married shortly after her daughter had accepted Amity’s proposal, and now, ten years after Luz had first set foot on the Boiling Isles chasing after her book, Eda found herself feeling more maternal than ever. Whatever that meant.
Her hands were fidgety, and not even Raine’s steadying grip could calm her. Camila tried not to look around too much, even after so many years of knowing the Boiling Isles and having visited her daughter regularly, she still wasn’t used to all of it.
Stopping in front of their room, Eda tried breathing through. King sighed again, but Raine shot him a glare and he shut up. At least her spouse understood that this was a big step for her. Looking to her side, Camila tried another smile and Eda nodded at her.
“If you want to, you and King can go ahead. I’ll-… I still need a minute.”
More than willing, Camila accepted. She knocked, and upon hearing Luz’s call, she stepped in. Eda shuffled to the side to let King through, so he could duck through the doorframe and maneuver his broad shoulders in without hitting anything. The door closed and Eda breathed through once more, feeling Raine’s grip tightening.
“How do you feel?”
Shooting them a grin, Eda turned, shrugging and trying to play it cool, “Old, honestly.”
Laughing, Raine pulled her aside to the row of chairs and made her sit down.
“No, I mean, how do you feel about Luz and Amity?”, they tried again and Eda sighed, staring at the blank wooden door with the small eighteen next to it.
“… Proud. I’m proud of them for making this commitment.”, looking back to Raine, she added, “And kind of scared. I haven’t really been the most-… Well, involved.”
Unimpressed, Raine lifted an eyebrow.
“… You’re kidding, right?”
Groaning, Eda shrugged again and leaned back, before closing her eyes, resting her head against the wall.
“I-… I never made the commitment they made. King has his father and Luz has her mother. I was more a friend to them than a mom. Sure, I liked seeing myself that way, and they liked seeing themselves as my kids, but-… It was fun having them. King had always been mostly independent and Luz was already a teenager when I met her. I’ve never-… Well, been around-…”
Raine softly placed their hand on Eda’s hands that she had folded in her lap and when she opened her eyes again, the gaze of her spouse was humored.
“Come on, Eda. How hard can it be to be a not-grandmother?”, at the joke, Eda groaned, “It’s not much different to being a not-mom to your kids.”
Grumbling, she got up again before straightening her back and nodding.
“You know what, you’re right. That kid is family now and whoever the hell cares what a mother or a grandmother is.”
A little confused, Raine got up after her and pumped a fist, albeit half-heartedly.
“That’s the spirit?”, they laughed and Eda huffed, before knocking and getting her own call to be let in.
The room was warm and humid. Eda let in Raine and quickly closed the door after them, not to let too much of the warmth escape, before turning back to her daughter.
Luz looked tired when she approached them.
Well, that wasn’t a surprise, given that she and Amity had arrived in the hospital two days ago before their little daughter had been born just this morning in the earliest hours. She had probably been awake all this time to be there for Amity.
Giving Eda a big hug, she nuzzled her face into the crook of her mother’s neck, before deeply breathing out. Eda could tell that Luz had just overcome a big step for herself.
“… I’m glad you’re here…”, she breathed and Eda wrapped her arms around the now-grown woman, tilting her own head into the embrace. The younger witch snuggled close while Raine squeezed past them to join Camila and King around the crib next to Amity’s bed.
Eda tried so hard not to cry.
This was a happy occasion and she would sure as hell not shed a tear about this. Just when she pressed a little kiss to Luz’s head, a tear rolled into her dark curls as well. Well, there went this promise.
“I’m proud of you, kid.”, she whispered and Luz held her tighter, smiling against her neck, “I’m so, so proud of you. If you ever need some help, I’ll do my damn best to provide.”
Sniffling, Luz nodded, before parting from her.
The exhaustion was evident on her face. She wiped her cheek before Eda placed a hand on her shoulder and caught her gaze. They exchanged a silent smile, then she looked up and around her daughter to her future daughter-in-law on the bed, obviously exhausted as well.
Amity gave a small wave, but it was obvious to see she was under the influence of some strong sedatives. That was the logical thing to do, Eda supposed, to keep her from acting protective over her child while all her family and friends wanted to meet the newest family member.
Witches only carried six months until giving birth, before incubating their pup for another three months. Which was why this room was so damn hot.
But upon giving birth, new mothers would also become a lot more protective of their pups than humans would. Luz had been new to all of this and Eda had had to educate her on the reproduction of witches, because Amity had been too busy laughing. Well, Eda had laughed as well, but not as hard as Luz’s fiancé.
Looking back to her daughter, she finally noticed the bandage she was wearing around one hand. Smirking, she gestured to that.
“Don’t tell me your weak nerd arms gave in.”, she joked and Luz huffed, rubbing the bandage with the healing sticker.
“Amity just had to transform her hand into a damn abomination while in labor. Seriously, who even does that? She sliced my hand right in half.”, grumbling, she looked back to her fiancé and gave her a small smile before looking back to Eda, “I almost missed the birth because the healers had to patch me up first. But there won’t even be a scar because they had my hand reattached just a second after it happened.”
Still grinning, Eda punched her shoulder, then Luz leaned closer to her, lowering her voice.
“Just don’t tell Mami. She’d lose her cool.”
Shaking her head and laughing, Eda walked past her.
“I won’t, don’t worry.”, after making her way around the bed, she sat down on the edge and caught Amity’s dazed gaze, taking her hand after permission, “Hey Minty. How’re you feeling?”
“… ’M good.”, the young witch slurred, trying a small smile, before breathing through and looking to the side where she kept her pup in view, “… Tired.”
Eda nodded, cupping her hand with both of hers, before softly patting the back of her hand.
“Lily will be here this afternoon to look after you two. Your siblings are still in Latissa on Government business, they asked me to tell you because they couldn’t get a hold of you. But they’ll be back tomorrow.”
She could tell that was a lot of information for Amity to process so she made a note to tell Luz as well. Leaving the witch to try and observe the room again – probably to make sure it stayed safe for her pup – she turned to the crib now finally.
Camila seemed a lot more comfortable around the baby, though. She had respected Luz’s wish to leave her in her crib for the time being, so Amity could get used to so many people around her pup so suddenly, but she was already reaching in and brushing the tiny thing over her cheek.
Well, okay, that seemed easy enough. Eda could do that, someday, when the kid was like twelve or something.
King and Luz were talking about something while Raine looked just about as amazed by the small creature as Camila was.
Sensing their amazement and figuring that Raine didn’t exactly have that much experience with children, either, Camila took the hand of Eda’s spouse and guided them down into the crib, brushing their knuckles against the incredibly soft skin of the baby’s cheek.
Amity didn’t even flinch at that. Either the sedatives were really strong or she felt incredibly comfortable with the people in the room. Looking back to the young witch, Eda confirmed the latter. Through half-lidded eyes, Amity was leaning back against the pillow, her other hand that was not held by Eda draped across her belly, while she was calmly watching Camila guiding Raine’s hand against the infant’s cheek.
She wondered how much Amity had actually adopted Luz’s family as her own once her parents had been imprisoned for their crimes against the public.
Judging by her calm reaction, she didn’t mind them being around her and her loved ones in the slightest, even in the now starting incubation period. Finally, Luz leaned around King and reached into the crib to lift her little daughter up and cradling her close to her chest. The baby didn’t even wake up, which made Eda chuckle.
“She’s got your sleeping habits, kid.”
Amity’s hand in hers shook when she started laughing alongside the older witch and Luz flushed in deep red when her mother confirmed.
“Sometimes, not even me shaking her would wake her up to school.”, Camila added and Luz huffed, bopping the infant in her arms.
“You guys are being mean to me in front of my daughter.”, she tried pouting, but King deadpanned.
“In front of your sleeping daughter. She won’t hear any of this.”
They started laughing again while Luz couldn’t suppress a little smile herself while looking down at the infant. When they had all quieted down a little, Luz pressed a soft kiss to her daughter’s forehead, before approaching Camila. Shooting a gaze towards Amity first to ask her permission, she then placed the baby in her mother’s arms and kept her hand cupped on the baby’s head, smiling.
“That’s your abuelita, mija.”, Luz mumbled softly and Eda almost felt her own heart breaking with the light sniffle Camila gave. After all these years of calling Luz her mija, Luz starting to use that label for her own daughter now made the human tear up.
While Camila greeted the little pup, Eda turned back to Amity whose head was softly nicking every time her eyelids fell. She had to be exhausted.
Tugging on her hand, Eda got her attention, then she lightly pushed the crib away to get up and adjust Amity’s pillow for her.
“C’mon, let’s get you lying down. We’ll take care of your pup.”
A sleepy gaze crossed with Eda’s but before Amity could object, the older witch was already adjusting the settings of the mattress to be flat again, before helping Amity lie down on her side.
“You can stay awake for as long as you want, but you should be comfortable with it at least.”, shooting her a grateful gaze, the younger witch yawned, then she adjusted the blanket around her future daughter-in-law and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, “Don’t worry about your pup, okay? Luz is taking care of her.”
That seemed to soothe Amity. She mumbled a soft “thank you” towards Eda and curled up a little, before continuing to watch the scene before her, the blinking of her eyelids already getting slower.
When Eda turned back to Camila, she discovered that Luz had taken her daughter back already and was safely cradling her before going around the crib and catching Eda’s gaze.
She knew that Luz wanted her to say hi, too.
“Luz, I’m not so sure about holding-”
Chuckling, her daughter adjusted the baby, before taking Eda’s hand.
“You can greet them like this first if you don’t wanna hold her. Or you can sit down if you like.”
Huffing, Eda fidgeted shortly, before rubbing her hands together and breathing through.
“Just, uh-… Sitting would be nice. I’m-… Holding the bat kids was an entirely different thing, you know? They could fly. Your kid can’t fly.”
Luz had to laugh at Eda’s rambling, pulling on her hand, she ushered King out of the chair by the window, before letting her adoptive mother sit down in it. Camila helped out by placing a pillow on Eda’s lap, then she was all set. Luz studied her face again.
“If you’re too nervous, you don’t have to hold her. I can hold her over your lap if you want to.”
Trying to wave her off, Eda forced a laugh.
“Pfft, you can just say you don’t trust me holding a baby, kid.”, she tried to joke around, but Luz just gave her a smile.
“If you feel uncomfortable, you don’t have to. That’s all I’m saying.”
But Eda wanted to. She definitely did kind of want to hold the tiny fragile baby that Luz had made together with her fiancé. Even if she was nervous and a little bit scared and so amazed by how small such a tiny thing could actually be, she did kind of want to hold that baby. Patting the pillow, she finally breathed through, then she opened her arms.
“Okay, I’m ready. Bring it, kid.”
Smirking at her antics, Luz leaned in and kneeled, then she slowly placed the baby in Eda’s arms. It was so tiny. It was so stupidly tiny, it wasn’t even as long as Eda’s forearm. Hiccupping, the older witch instinctively cradled the tiny, tiny infant in her arms and a warm feeling overcame her.
A really warm feeling.
If that was maternal feelings, then Eda swore she was going to be the best dang grandmother she could be for that child.
She brushed over her temple and the baby squirmed slightly. Apparently, she had woken up sometime during Camila holding her and was now kind of fighting against the snug swaddle blanket she was trapped in. Eda didn’t even notice she had tears in her eyes when she already felt the first tear rolling down her cheek.
“Wow… You’re my granddaughter now, hm?”, she asked and that tiny thing yawned, her arms struggling in the swaddle, before softly smacking her incredibly small lips. Eda found herself smiling immediately, “Titan, that’s new.”
Luz’s hands undid the blanket that was wrapped around the baby, then Eda laughed tearily when the infant stretched, her absolutely tiny fists stretching up to her face and rubbing her cheeks. She was apparently waking up and while she knew that incubating infants didn’t open their eyes yet, she found herself wondering what eye color the child would have. Adjusting the baby, she cradled them closer, then she smuggled a finger into the fist and giggled in delight when the baby grabbed it, despite not wanting to open the fist at first.
Looking up to Luz, who was still kneeling in front of her, she managed a smile, her teary expression probably matching the one on her daughter’s face.
“She’s perfect, Luz. But, let’s be honest, you two made a stupidly small baby.”
Laughing under tears, Luz nodded then she brushed over her daughter’s head and pressed a small kiss to her forehead to which the baby responded with a huff.
“Yeah, when I first held her, I was so scared she’d just slip right through my arms. But I think Amity would have killed me if I had so much as stumbled so I concentrated really hard not to let that happen.”
Eda’s gaze shot up from her granddaughter to her future daughter-in-law who was calling from the bed, her words slurred from the sedatives and sleepiness, but still very much poised if needed.
“… You better not drop our child, Luz.”
Raine had to laugh at that and went to soothe the new mother, while Eda turned back to the baby in her arms with a smile.
“Titan she’s small…”
The following few minutes were pretty much filled with tearful giggles and a very excited King who almost knocked the crib over when Luz called him to say hi as well. When Eda and King had calmed down a little, Camila had taken Luz outside for a little mother-daughter walk in the nearby park and King had gone with them for snacks. The older witch got up and carried the baby back to the crib, smiling when she lifted them up to her face. Resting her forehead against theirs, she kept like this for a moment, before stopping in front of the crib.
Amity had fallen asleep by now, even if she was flinching with every littlest sound her daughter made, so Eda looked over to Raine.
“Wanna hold the baby, too?”, she asked and Raine blushed.
“I’d-… I’d rather wait until she’s a little bit older.”, she admitted and Eda nodded before still gesturing her spouse over. Raine got up from the edge of Amity’s bed and joined Eda, putting an arm around her waist while Eda still cradled the baby close, taking care not to jostle her too much.
She yawned again and from the corner of her eyes, Eda saw Amity’s eyes opening, unfocused and probably very much still asleep but still attentive to her daughter. Chuckling, she turned back to Raine.
“Boy, I’m sure glad I only had two adoptive children.”
Shrugging, Raine caught the baby’s fist with their free hand and tickled their tiny fingers, but she wouldn’t open her hand this time.
“I’m sure you would’ve made a great biological mother as well. As you’re already a great adoptive mother, too.”
Shrugging, Eda brushed over her temple again, leaning into Raine.
“Nah, I’m glad I never had a baby. I don’t think I would’ve wanted to go through that.”
“Fair enough.”, Raine whispered, but their tone indicated that they had stopped listening to Eda, engrossed by the child in her arms. She softly kicked, which caused them to chuckle, before she settled back against Eda’s chest, curling in slightly and breathing through, apparently getting ready for her next nap. Raine sighed softly.
“Honestly, I’m glad I never had a baby, too. But having a grandchild is amazing.”
Grinning, Eda kissed their forehead, before carefully maneuvering the baby back into the crib and swaddling them the best she could, watching her breaths deepening and calming as she fell asleep again. Then, Eda pushed the crib next to Amity’s bed, to which the young witch immediately responded by reaching into the crib from the side and resting her hand on her daughter’s belly. Smiling, Eda took Raine into her arms and watched as both her future daughter-in-law and her granddaughter slept peacefully, leaning her head against Raine’s.
“… You’re right this is amazing.”
She already knew that this child would have the two best mothers she could ask for. And she knew that her entire family, including her furry uncle, three grandmothers, and one grandparent, and their twin uncle and aunt would do their damn best to make sure this child had everything she needed.
Smiling, Eda reached down to brush over the baby’s cheek and pulled Raine closer.
Maternal feelings or not, this was amazing.

Hunter Noceda AU: Venance
Tumblr media
(can't digitalize these rn so you'll get the sketches for now)
So yeah, Golden Guard version two!
When Belos does find out about Hunter in YBOS, Hunter gets the bomb dropped about them being related (idk how yet). but Hunter obviously doesn’t believe in it. Until Hunting Palismen comes around and they find this small thingy, Venance.
(thank you @bernardo-draws-and-cries for the name. Its based on the name Venâncio, which means “the one who hunts”)
He is another grimwalker made by Belos, he’s 12 (yeah.) and way more stressed (Belos has gotten more iron fisted after losing Hunter). Someone save this poor child
- He’s just starting out as the Golden Guard (and he’s not a coven head. Kikimora is. And she still wants him dead too), he’s still getting the hang of it. He does act tough and serious, way more serious than canon GG/Hunter, no space for goofyness.
Tumblr media
- So yeah, a duo Hunting Palismen thing would be fun. Haven’t sorted out everything here but I do think Hunter would also go with Luz because of no palisman reasons. And he hasn’t met Ven yet, he only heard Lilith talking about him and Luz and Eda dealing with him on Separate Tides (he was busy drowning in guilt and trying to help with the money situation in other ways), so when he meets Ven and when he sees his face and how similar they are (and how many scars that kid already has), he’s reasonably confused/upset, like “Oh, that creepy man wasn’t lying. This doesn’t make anything on this situation better”
- After the initial surprise/confusion, Luz and Hunter jokingly call him Ghaterer until they learn his name, then they start calling him Ven. At first Ven hates this nickname but ends up reluctantly accepting it.
- Even before Eclipse Lake he’s so scared about being replaced, and knowing about Hunter’s existence in the Boiling Isles makes it worse, now he’s super sure he isn’t as valuable to Belos anymore. So he hates Hunter
- Hunter: come here youre part of the found family now
Ven: NO
Hunter: too late *picks him up*
Hunter: If Luz taught me something is that if you didn’t want to get assimilated into my found family, you should have killed me when you had the chance
Yeah that’s their dynamic when Hunter learns a bit more about him
Tumblr media
- Venance doesn’t have much respect as the Golden Guard yet. He’s small (like, maybe even less than 1,50m/4′11″), young, has just been starting out on this role, like, in the last few months, could easily be picked up like a kitty, so he has to fight quite a bit to be taken seriously. Which results on him being way more grumpy and short tempered
- So he doesn’t take it very well when hes made fun of by the scouts in Latissa. Not at all
- Hunter, who was joking around until then:…are you okay?
Ven: I AM! *barely holding the tears back*
Hunter:
Hunter: that’s it youre part of the family now
Ven: you can’t do that
Hunter: we’re two and you’re one, we have your staff and youre very light.
(he still would put up a fight, and it would take a while for it to end. And he bites hard, he has very sharp fangs)
- Scouts: Go home with your sibiling
Hunter: *oh. Oh yeah i forgot we have the same freaking face*
Tumblr media
- They don’t know yet about the grimwalker thing. Well, maybe Ven discovers later but at the moment where Hunting Palismen happens, neither of them know anything besides them being related, Ven got told he is his brother, and that Hunter was taken away from the coven before he was born
- Rascal seeing Hunter: hey you’re cool, i kinda want to be your palisman
Rascal seeing Ven: oh heck this kid needs help
- I’m not sure if Hunter gets Lil Rascal. Because on one side, would be fun for him to have Lil Rascal and train doing magic like this, but also could be good for Ven to have some small support back at home, like how they are to Hunter in canon. So this hasn’t been decided yet. Hunter could either get Lil Rascal and Ven doesn’t get a palisman/gets a blue jay palisman, or Ven gets Lil Rascal and Hunter comes back also empty handed
- So I’m going with the no palisman for Hunter route for now.
- It’s a bitter moment for both him and Luz. He tries to convince her that it’s okay, that they’ll get theirs soon, but she still kinda feels like a failure about this. And he himself thinks it’s because they don’t have a magic bile sac, so it’s not a good time for them. Eda and King lift their spirits a bit about this, though.
- Either by peeking around or just flat out being told, Ven does learn about him (and Hunter) being grimwalkers. What does he do with that? He has a crisis about it, which raises even more the stakes for him in Eclipse Lake. He still wouldn’t know his purpose for the Day of Unity, but he would know that he was created for it and could lose his position if he didn’t prove himself worthy of it.
- He would explode at Hunter one day and end up telling the truth about them being Grimwalkers (after Eclipse Lake)
- Ven: Do you want to know what you really are?! You’re a clone! You’re just someone’s clone just like me! A replacement!
Hunter, trying to not freak out but freaking out anyways: ...are you okay?
Ven; WHAT DO YOU THINK?
- If Belos is searching for Hunter, on the grounds of him being a more mature grimwalker than Venance, Ven could end up resorting to sabotaging the searches, he doesn’t want to be replaced.
- And he’s making Ven convinced that he will be replaced, to pit both boys against eachother. He gets Ven more under his thumb and not risking Hunter making Ven change his mind. Which doesn’t work as he intented, Ven does get scared about it but Hunter ends up pretty quickly going “dude why do you think I want to replace you?” and Ven is quickly thrown into a loop because he can’t understand why he wouldn’t want to do that
- Ven: what do you mean with “I don’t wanna be the Golden Guard”? If you’re like me you should DESIRE IT SINCE YOU WERE BORN
Hunter: lol no. I dealt with my need of approval a year ago on therapy.
Hunter: Also being a cop sucks.
- This boy is a tense child always a few bad moments away from a breakdown/meltdown. And has anger problems. A lot of anger in a very tiny body
- There’s some more interactions between Ven and the Noceda duo, and he would rather die than admit that he’s got slightly attached to them
- Eda: Luz told me that Golden Guard is a uwu smol boi that needs to be protected, hell knows what this means
Hunter, who definetly came there too because FUCKING COOL ASS CAVE AND LAKE: i hate/love her
Ven: If i ever see that human again-
Amity AND Hunter: watch your fucking mouth
(definetly not how it would play out but very funny sdkdshdfsj)
- In terms of strength he couldn’t defeat Amity in a fight for the key, he would lean more on the blackmailing. He is a 12 year old but he’s still on a position of power on the emperor’s coven and he knows where the key is, it would put the owlfam on Belos’ line of sight again (if they even ever went away from it)
- That or he passes out, gets dragged out of there by them (he’s a lil shit but they’re not going to leave him there alone where Kikimora could kill him) and he falls asleep for 12 hours in the couch on the owl house. Which ends up giving him a day where he can be just a kid. He’s very weirded out by everything but he enjoys it a little bit at least. He would still try to get the key and would be torn apart by the guilt of thinking of doing this and the guilt of not doing this
- It wouldn’t take much to make him want to stay in the owl house. He’s starved for positive attention. It wouldn’t be easy but also it’s not as hard as for how Hunter is right now in canon
- I don’t think this could happen but I keep thinking about one day him and Hunter switching places so he can be just a kid for one day. Would be cool to see him sneaking into Hexside (or being dragged there, which is more likely to happen) and interacting with Willow and Gus
And that’s some of what we have for Ven right now! He’s a fun character to figure out :3
This took SO MUCH TIME to write

How Long Has It Been?
Rating: Teen, Gen
It’s been years since Hunter moved to the Owl House. But Belos sank his claws in deep, and it shows.
Ao3
Tw: Flashbacks, child abuse, trauma
“Fight me.”
“Bold words from someone who lost the last three spars.”
Luz stuck her tongue out at Hunter. “I’ve been training. I’ve been making new glyph combos. Re-match.”
He chuckled and rolled off of the couch. “You ready to lose again?”
Luz pushed open the door. “You’re insufferable.”
“And you’re too stubborn to quit.”
“It’s called perseverance.” Luz held out her hand, and her palisman came to her, turning into a staff. “Are you ready?”
Hunter’s cardinal fluttered down, providing him with his own staff. “Are you?”
She responded by drawing a huge light glyph in the air with her staff, setting off a blinding flash. She had her eyes shut when it went off, but she opened them and charged towards a disoriented Hunter, who was blinking owlishly.
He disappeared, reappearing a few feet away, and Luz skidded to a stop, tracing a plant glyph on the ground with her foot and thumping down her staff. A vine whipped towards Hunter, and he smacked it away, disappearing again. This time, he surfaced right next to her, staff crackling with power.
“Got you!”
Luz rolled to the side, this time drawing an ice glyph. “Haha, too slow, golden boy!” She tapped the glyph, and a spike made of ice shot out. Her aim was off—instead of knocking his staff out of his hand, the spike shot dangerously close to his face. He stopped short, and she came around for the final blow.
She stopped mid swing. Something was wrong. Hunter’s hands had curled into fists at his sides, and he was holding. Absolutely stock still. Except for his shoulders, which were trembling.
“Hunter?” she asked quietly.
His chest heaved wildly, and Luz bit her lip. He hadn’t had a flashback in a while—nearly hitting his face must have set it off.
“Hunter, it’s okay,” she said firmly and slowly, “You’re okay. You’re at the Owl House. Breathe. You’re okay. Listen to me, Hunter. You’re at the Owl House, I’m Luz, can you hear me? Belos can’t hurt you anymore. You’re not at the keep, you’re here, with me. At the Owl House. Deep breath, Hunter. You’re okay. It’s all over—you survived, you got out, you’re okay. You’re safe here. Belos isn’t here, and he won’t hurt you again. Breathe, Hunter. You’re okay. Deep breath in, Hunter, follow my lead.” Luz inhaled deeply and was relieved to see him do the same. She let out the breath slowly, and he sighed. “Hunter? Can you hear me? Do you know where you are?”
“I’m sorry,” he whispered.
“Hey, it’s okay, I just want to make sure—”
“I spoke out of turn,” he continued in that whisper, his eyes unfocused.
Luz’s heart sank. “Hunter, you’re not there anymore,” she repeated, “It’s okay—you’re okay. He can’t hurt you—you’re safe.”
Please wake up.
Xxx
The titan has big plans for you.
Don’t interrupt, Hunter.
I don’t want to hurt you, Hunter.
Wild magic is dangerous, and if I catch you trying to use it again…
Hunter. Can you hear me?
Clean yourself up, you’re getting blood on the floor.
Hold your tongue, guard.
Stop crying.
You’re okay
You must be strong enough to survive on your own.
Everyone has a use.
Belos can’t hurt you anymore.
Deep breaths, Hunter.
Come on. Breathe in and out.
Hunter blinked. He was sitting in the owl house—how had he gotten here?
He sank forward, putting his head in his hands. “Shit. Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!”
“Ohohohoho, Hunter has to put six snails in the no swearing jar!” King crowed gleefully.
Luz was sitting next to him on the couch, and she reached out, then paused. “Hey—you back?”
He nodded. “’s okay.”
She gave his shoulder a squeeze. “How are you feeling?” she asked softly.
Hunter pinched the bridge of his nose. “How long was I out?”
“Hunter—”
“How long was I out?”
She shrugged. “Five minutes, maybe? I’m sorry I moved you, but it was starting to rain.”
Hunter buried his face in his hands. “Titan.”
“Hey. You’re okay. You had a flashback, but it’s over now, and you’re back with us.”
“Is it still raining?”
“No, it was just a quick shower.”
Hunter grabbed his staff and strode out the door, flying away.
He needed to clear his head.
Xxx
“Are you gonna go after him?”
Luz shook her head. “Not yet. I’m going to give him a minute.” She got up, stretching. “It was my fault,” she said softly, “I set it off.”
“Ah, Luz. It was an accident!”
“I should have known—”
“I’m going to stop you right there. We’re still figuring out his triggers, okay?”
“It’s been three years!”
“Yeah, and we’ve learned a lot! We’ve learned that seeing Lilith stresses him out, we’ve learned that seeing green slime makes him puke, we’ve learned that he panics if his palisman is out of his sight for more than ten minutes—we’ve learned a ton of his triggers. But some of them, like whatever happened out there, we’re only going to learn when we set them off.”
“That’s not great!”
“Hey. Better we learn what they are now, when we can help him, than him finding them out while he’s alone. Don’t beat yourself up over it, Luz, we didn’t know. I don’t think he knew.”
Luz sighed. “Yeah, okay. You’re right.”
“Of course I am.”
Luz hoped onto her staff, flying out the door. She knew exactly where Hunter would have gone. She made her way to the top of one of the ribs, where he was sitting with his chin resting on his knees, his palisman nestled on his shoulder. Luz landed lightly next to him, sitting down and dangling her legs over the edge. “Hey. You doing okay?”
“No,” he muttered.
Luz nodded, swinging her legs back and forth. She didn’t say anything, just sat there.
“Every time I think I’m getting better, something like this happens. I’m just so sick of it, Luz. It’s been years, why can’t I just get over it?!”
“Hey,” she said softly, “no one is expecting you to just get over it. Belos hurt you pretty badly—years of abuse isn’t something you just walk away from. And you are getting better.” She nudged his shoulder. “Remember when you first came to stay at the owl house?”
He sighed.
“You didn’t sleep. The few nights when you did, you woke up screaming. The phrase ‘big plans’ gave you a nervous breakdown. Some days we couldn’t even get you out of your room.”
He snorted. “I was a real pain.”
“You were hurting,” Luz corrected, “You were hurting a lot, and you were still trying to process, and you were finally acknowledging years of trauma and abuse. My point is, you have gotten better! I know maybe it doesn’t seem like it. I know you still get flashbacks and panic attacks sometimes, and it feels like maybe you’re not making any progress, but you are. Sometimes you take two steps forward and one step back and that’s okay! We’re learning more about how to help you every day. Now I know that sending spikes hurtling towards you isn’t a good idea, even if we are practice fighting. I won’t do it anymore.” She stood up, offering him a hand. “Okay?”
He took her hand with a sigh. “Okay.”
“I’ll stay up with you tonight,” Luz promised. He got nightmares on days when he’d had a flashback, even if he wouldn’t always admit it. “I’ll make tea. We can have a sleepover. Prank call Principal Bump.”
He smiled a little bit at that. “Thanks.”
“Anytime.” Luz got back on her staff, hovering. “Come on. Let’s go home.”

Another Saturday, another episode! Let's take a look at Keeping Up A-fear-ances!
(Good lord I'm starting to make myself sound like some sort of content creator)
Oh, okay, we're just starting at that level of intensity, huh?
Chest gem origins
Gwendolyn not being satisfied with managing the curse and determined to cure it? I'm sure this won't be a real world allegory in the slightest.
Oh, so Eda literally just stumbles upon the portal? I could call that contrived, but honestly it's not dissimilar to how Dipper found Journal 3. For that matter, the entirety of Lord of the Rings is predicated on an accidental discovery like this and nobody gave Tolkien shit about it.
Was the eye on the portal cracked in previous episodes? I don't remember.
Seems like Gwen is the "well-meaning but ultimately misguided" flavor of mom.
As an aside, I am now quite curious about how Eda's first trip to the human realm went. Maybe a future episode will cover it? At any rate, I smell a new favorite fic prompt.
The screaming alarms in the Demon Realm will never not be funny to me.
Also, that is a worrying number of hearts. Eda is straight up murdering these poor creatures.
For some reason the gold fang being removable never occurred to me as a possibility, and now I feel like a kid who's discovered that Santa isn't real.
Oh hey, the new outfit! I'm also impressed how close to symmetrical that tearing was.
I need to get a screencap of Luz sleeping on that stack of books because she is adorable.
Also, staying up all night researching? This season seems determined to completely eradicate the notion of Luz being dumb, and I am here for it.
I have a feeling the Hexside mug will be making its way to The Mystery Shack in the near future.
Lilith's first experience with transformation and she seems understandably horrified.
The curse acting stronger when stressed? That seems...important.
Ah, so the dismemberment is from the curse! A surprisingly useful side effect from what we've seen so far.
Can I just say that I appreciate how Eda's reaction to Lilith's first taste of transformation is immediate remedy, explanation, and reassurance? And doesn't make any snarky comments along the lines of "now you know what it's like?" Whatever happened in that week and a half must have been cathartic as hell.
"Always. Always curious." Luz is the TOH fandom.
(Also, Eda, you know she is, considering how much she went on about your "mysterious past" at the Covention)
"Magic bird tornado?!" Luz has a way with words that's just *chef's kiss*.
"Gwendolyn." Eda is already just fucking done.
"MOM?!?!" Jeez, Lilith, you're just now hearing all this?
I was charmed by how motherly Gwen was acting toward Eda, but then she kinda just...dismissed Lilith, and now I'm somehwat less charmed.
(Sweet flea as a term of endearment is kinda cute, though might have some unfortunate implications depending on how you want to interpret it)
"Who knows what they put in those nasty concoctions?" OH WE GOING FOR THE ANTI-VAXXERS NOW YESSSS
Luz and Lilith's reaction to that whole exchange is priceless.
Everyone's perspective here makes perfect sense for who they are and what they've been through.
Poor Lilith. Her cursing Eda is beginning to make more sense.
Ah, thus begins the collaboration.
"We'll be consulting someone very special." Why does that seem so...ominous?
Is there anyone who watched this episode for the first time whose bullshit detector didn't go off immediately when Gwen mentioned finding someone who promised a cure?
Heh, Palm Stings.
Nonbelievers will be blinded by the power of the tome? I'm sure they will be, Wartlop.
I must say, as something of a scientist myself (okay that's not true, I'm a QA tech for a food manufacturer, but I do have a chemistry degree), I am 100% here for the swings being taken at faith healing/"miracle" cures/anti-vaxxers in this episode
Oh, we Wile E. Coyote now, huh?
Also, interesting how much apple blood is being played up in this episode.
Lilith please you're projecting your mommy issues on a literal child
OH WE REALLY JUST WILE E. COYOTE HUH?
You're right, Luz, Gwen's bicep game is goals.
(Somewhat disappointed the scars are from questing and not beastkeeping, but eh)
Why do I get the feeling there's gonna be a future episode where everybody stages an intervention for Eda's apple blood problem?
"Those feathers mean we're driving the beast out" Gwen no
Hooty is holding the brain cell? Oh no...
If that ice cream came from the Night Market it would explain why Lilith sounds drunk.
(Side note: I can't be the only one getting flashbacks to Mermista's ice cream binge, right? Different context, but still)
"Abomi-berry" "Franken fruit" "Key slime pie" These are A+ flavor names.
Oh, there's the transformation...
I must say that whole segment kinda rubbed me the wrong way. The way King's opinion on his dad was changed seemed...I don't know how to describe it. I get that they needed a trigger for Lilith's transformation, but honestly if any part of the episode is contrived it's this.
"¡It really is that good!" So that's what an accent slip in written form looks like. (The upside down exclamation point is used in Spanish, in case anyone didn't know)
I keep half expecting Eda to say "Beep! Beep!" at this point.
Luz is finally asking questions. Took long enough.
Ah, the classic "moving the goal posts to extract more money from a desparate family member" technique.
Luz channeling Scorpion, we love to see it.
There is an exquisite irony in Eda's mom being scammed, I must say.
Ah, so that's where the elixirs went. Dammit, Gwen.
Luz is definitely thinking "Are you fucking kidding me right now?!"
Beast!Lilith is massive.
"Sweet flea?" Gwen just realized she done goofed.
"I can see you still need a little time." God Luz is so fucking smart.
The con revealed.
OH DAMN SCARY MAMA
(Also I am terrified of bees/wasps, so extra scary mama in my book)
The scam is revealed, goblins, getting back into the Wartlop disguise is kinda pointless.
She joined the Beast Keeping coven entirely to cure the curse? That's dedication. A shame you couldn't have spared some of that for Lilith.
Still, I do like badass scary mama Gwen. I'd be down to see more of that.
Owl Beast fight!
I am slayed by the fact that the portraits are now officially a recurring gag 😂
Aw, here's The Moment™️
"My turn to drive" Does this imply cars are a thing on the Boiling Isles after all?
Lilith crying almost immediately💔 She was holding onto a lot of pain.
Yes, King, she was trying to do her best. I mean, road to hell or whatever, but at least Gwen got there in the end.
WHAT?! YOU'RE BREAKING UP LULU AND HOOTCIFER?!?!?!?
Terrace, that's just cruel. (Worthless brownie points for whoever understands that reference)
No, seriously, you can't just give me my favorite inter-character relationship in the series after Lumity and just...take it away like that, come on! 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I know I should remark on how Lilith told Gwen about the circumstances of the curse, how Gwen rightfully accepted responsibility for the whole situation, and how Luz finds the big hair aspirational, but...NOOOO DON'T END THE ADVENTURES OF LULU AND HOOTCIFER WHYYYYYYYYY💔😭💔😭💔😭
"BUT I CAN'T HOLD A PEN!"
I will never emotionally recover from this.
Okay, I think I got that out of my system. Anyway...
Not the only human, huh? Cue the "Belos is a human" theorists going into maximum overdrive.
That said, a tantalizing lore dump.
We certainly do have a lot of garbage. Some of it even holds office. HEY-O!
Setting up the next episode, too. Continuity!
Camp's over, huh? That means it's been three months.
Way to misdirect with Camila, guys. That said, we have now seen Camila cry and I HATE it. (In the right way, I think)
WHAT THE FUCK
HOLY SHIT
CREEPY LUZ IS REAL WHAT
OWJEIWHQGIWWOPQ
(It's hard to keysmash on a phone, even with autocorrect off)
That wraps it up! The flaws in this episode seem more pronounced than any others in the season so far, but the good stuff was really good! Overall a solid episode! I know everybody's looking forward to library Lumity in the next one (so am I), but I'm personally eager to see what they do with Gus. His part is the A plot, after all.
Anyway, I'll be back at this next week! Still hard to believe this is a thing, but that's life, I guess.

Different anon here! About your post about the owl house, just out of curiosity, how much do you think is forgivable due to how Disney screwed them over? I do agree, the arcs feel impatient and couldn’t dedicate the time to the middle of the arcs, but that’s also in part because of how Disney cut the show prematurely short and they were scrambling to tell the story.
No. Zero. Nada. Nothing. Jack Shit. How many more ways do I have to put this: The cancellation is NOT why the show has writing problems. The show has writing problems because the writers are bad storytellers who have no clue how to actually do plot. For just the most obvious, basic example, let's take the end of S1. Belos presents himself as the big bad. Eda, Lilith and King are almost killed because of him and Luz destroys the portal door to make sure his plans cannot come to fruition. By all means, the show is ready to start its story and Luz is ready to start facing off against the Emperor's Coven.
She won't until Hollow Mind. Now you might disagree with me on this because Shifting Tides has her face off against the Golden Guard, Escaping Palisman is Golden Guard and Kiki, Eclipse Lake is Kiki and you even have Terra showing up in Falls and Follies. What are the character's goals in those episodes? Hunter is a surprise villain in Shifting Tides while Luz was just looking for cash, in Hunting Palisman, the two literally had no clue about the other until Luz was accidentally abducted and fighting them is just saving the palisman, not standing up to the coven. In Eclipse Lake, the coven just happens to be here at the same time as Amity, Eda and King and in Falls and Follies, they aren't standing up to the coven... They're getting Eda's love interest back.
The idea of Belos being evil and of facing him AT ALL... Happens in Hollow Mind. And Luz brings it up right after Eda's old wild witch pal says no to fixing Luz's magical cloak. Which, you know... Has problems for WHY Luz is now deciding to yell in public about how evil Belos is.
Instead, that time is spent on Hunter, who really has a very minimal effect on the plot overall. Like... Besides giving screentime to Belos where we still aren't learning anything about him, his relevance is just very low. We also Lumity which NEVER has plot relevance and King gets a few episodes episodes but still not much despite easily being the most important character in hindsight as far as the plot goes. Raeda and angst about that is given at least half as much screentime though and the closest you can come to justifying that is the failed plan of the CATs.
If you REALLY need something not from S2, then just look at Amity. She was already 99% reformed by the time Adventure in the Elements happens, if not Lost in Language and those are her fourth and fifth major appearances. Worse yet, their treatment of Boscha and her friend group is effectively the EXACT same as how they treated Amity's parents. Just an obstacle to be blown aside for Lumity to happen. The flaws in how TOH is constructed from a basic level are there even in S1, it's just easier to ignore them because the show was willing to be fun back then.
None of this even gets into the Collector, who was explicitly chosen to be moved forward in their plans when the show was cancelled. Instead, you know... Not. Just not introducing a character you have NO TIME to do anything with.
Then there's the condemnation of S3's creative decisions. If they REALLY had a plan for all of this stuff, S3 should feel like it's constant payoffs without proper build up as they wrap up loose ends, deal with the threats that are unresolved, etc. like that. Instead, S3 is so desperate for ideas to fill its runtime that the finale starts with a 7 minute dream sequence that actively goes against the character arc, shit as it is, Luz went through during the time from Hollow Mind to Watching and Dreaming.
If the shortening could be used as a real excuse, you shouldn't have been able to cut 80% of S3... And lose nothing. TOH is not bad because of the shortening. It's bad because because the writers are bad storytellers. (Yes, this was technically asking about the arcs but I decided to focus on how they just wasted time in general, especially on characters or elements that didn't matter. I still stand by the idea that TOH either NEVER wanted to end or that it wanted five seasons to cram literally every idea it had into it. Shortening S3 doesn't change the flaws of either approach.

Honestly, I haven’t been chatting enough about Owl House Season 2, so I’m gonna make some bullet points here about what I’ve been loving from these first five episodes.
-Lilith & Hooty’s whole friendship dynamic. It’s very nice, ironic, funny, and super cute to see two polar opposites become the most unlikely of friends. Also, it adds a nice change of pace to a side character, like Hooty, who was the guy no one liked to hang around with much as a running gag in Season 1. Now Hooty has someone who enjoys his company and values much of what he has to say, too. Lilith knows what it’s like to not have people enjoy their company, as she made choices that winded up putting her in a place of solitude from actual healthy socializing. For a long time Lilith didn’t have anyone to genuinely consult, until this silly freaking Owl tube came along to give a sense of safety after abandoning her ideals that defined this Witch for a couple of decades.
-Getting me to actually care more about King’s role in this story line. King wasn’t someone who really clicked with me in Season 1′s run time. I liked his episodes centering on the sibling dynamic he had with Luz sure, but not any one of them made me go, “This character is actually very endearing and want to see more of their journey.” , where I took King more as an overall decent member of the cast at best. Echoes of the Past seriously surprised me in how well it executed his backstory showcasing the strong connection he has to Edalyn & Luz in general as a found family. The revelation of how Eda & King met, on top of her dubbing him with that name this little guy cherishes, paints a picture of how much Eda truly cares about the young demon. Edalyn wanted him to feel good about his place in their world, which only ended up being a mistake she’d have to correct afterwards in this episode. Echoes of the Past was such a lovely surprise in how well it succeeded in building upon the lore of this interesting world and giving King’s development more of a dramatic and tragic revelation of characterization. I’d arguably say what they did with King’s may be the best part for me in Season 2, thus far. It really was that much of a shock for me in what they accomplished.
-Amity & Luz, my God where do I even begin with these two cute love birds? If Grom Night was the story’s way of acknowledging Amity has got a crush on Luz, then this episode lit a spark underneath our main heroine’s interest in her romantically. When Amity charged in against her parent’s improved abomination saying like a badass, “Get away from my Luz!”,  anyone could see how mesmerized Luz looked at her actions. Part of me thought they’d continue doing the unaware protagonist trope, where Luz wasn’t aware of Amity’s feelings or even gains a crush of her own, either. Really enjoying how Dana Terrace and her crew have been approaching this representation of LGBTQ through making the whole concept of Lumity romance feel super organic from both ends. It’s no longer a one sided deal with only Amity having feelings for someone, who helped make her once miserable life so much greater. Luz now views her in the same inspiring light Amity did in Grom Night’s story of seeing this person as more than a friend, but a significant individual she wants to share her life and world with back on Earth. This is how you do a romantic representation without beating viewers over the head of how much you’re pushing boundaries. Let the characters actions speak on how they feel about each other.
-Gwendolyn’s introduction the story was a very welcoming one, as it gave more of a complicated shake up to how interesting, yet tragic, Edalyn & Lilith’s lives are when it comes to their relationship with their respective parent. Lilith choosing to curse Eda already put many years of guilt upon herself, but to not get any attention afterward from her mother’s top priority becoming curing her sister’s curse instead? Talk about another way to look it as Lilith feeling more down in the dumps for putting that curse on Eda. Lilith likely felt as if she didn’t deserve to be loved after throwing her sibling under the bus to get into the Emperor’s Coven, which led to a long struggle of trying to makes amends. Bringing their mother into Season 2 was a terrific way to shed more light onto how this crazy family operates and show just how much the curse affected them all emotionally on different levels. Eda had to distance herself from others, Lilith searched to find answers on her own, and Gwendolyn poured so much of her life into wanting to help her youngest child, at the expense of forgetting about Lilith’s needs. A great representation of a flawed, yet still loving, family tree.
-Showing Gus’ magical illusion abilities in a seriously cool, albeit disturbing manner, of how even if he may be limited to using just one type of magic doesn’t mean it’s not powerful. How they went about evolving the strength of illusions being used to even physically fool people into feeling the touch of it, while showing a greater strain on its user casting said spell, adds a new level of awesome to Gus’ abilities. It shows he can become a great asset to his friends in the future of growing events and not just get sidelined unfairly, due to a growing power scale of some kind. That was another one of my favorite parts of the episode, beside that whole deal many are talking about surrounding Lumity’s very great growth in Through The Looking Glass Ruins. Give it up for the future MVP Gus over here, as I can see this stuff coming into play against the Emperor’s Coven conflict possibly in Season 2′s finale when shit gets very real.

Reverse Au! Dump
Don’t mind my idea dumping here. Brain decided to have fun while I was at work and I have too many wips as it is, so… Thought I’d ask before I dumped, experience. Used morningmark’s comics as a base, so if you want reference. Now this isn’t all that well compiled, but here it goes.
~
Magic in the Other World is varied as it is crazy. So many styles over the generations and not a lot of organization. There are some that try to categorize it all, but that works as well as you’d expect. Some were lost, some erased, some weren’t passed down/recorded because “the power is all mine! Ahahaha!” It took a lot of time and collaboration, but eventually a sort of system was installed to help out. Still a lot of work to do, but its a step forward. Nowadays the term Wild Magic is generally reserved for those that aren’t all that well documented and understood.
Some Magics are very powerful and desirable, but also tend to be very high risk/high reward, kinda pass/fail, pretty literally Do or Die most times. So not a lot of people can use those or are even willing to. Story says this one guy named Odin hung himself on a massive tree by his own spear for nine days, no food water or rest in constant pain before he could unlock the secret of Runes. But it’s also said he gouged out his own eye to drink from the Well of Wisdom so…
There are lots of different ways to channel magic too: wands, staves, jewelry, certain gems, familiars, potions, enchanted armaments, chants, scripts, etc. Each tool has its own advantages and disadvantages and play into a Witches’ style. Every Witch has at least two methods of spellcasting. Only children have one. Haven’t thought of how Luz gets her Palisman though. Maybe its one of those magic Artifacts like Dr. Strange’s cloak, Elder Wand, Thor’s hammer, or a Green Lantern’s Ring. Something that can’t be recreated because the secret is lost, materials no longer exist, too hard/dangerous to make, accident that can’t be recreated, etc. Happens more often than people like.
Camilla is sometimes called the Blue Witch. She’s a healer by heart and trade, but push her and she will become a one Witch Battleship. Bismark who? Aaaaand she just deleted a whole battalion. And the fortress behind them. Hide me. There are the very rare occasions, like count on one hand rare, when someone near and dear to her heart is in trouble that she takes up her other job. She’s especially terrifying when she decides to torture, those who know how to heal the body know best how to break it. Many shades of Blue, some are very close to Black. She doesn’t necessarily hate Humans exactly, but doesn’t have the highest of regard from past experiences.
Luz has training and is a proficient Witch for her age. Camilla and her father were adamant about having a general knowledge/skillset alongside her specialized skill. Jack of all trades and a master of none, still better than a master of one. She has gone through the system for her magic with varying success. Oracle magic? Zero talent. Bard classes? She can play an instrument, but can’t sing at the same time. When she does sing she tires too hard and messes up. It’s only when she doesn’t try, like absently singing along with a song or playing by her heart, that she’s good at it. Beasts? Can use them, but would rather play with them. Bleeding heart and all that. She does have a good handle on healing magic partly due to Camilla drilling necessary skills into her and partly osmosis. Her father arranged for some CQC lessons from an old friend of his which the girl loved. You get the idea. It wasn’t until she discovered Glyphs that she found her niche and her skills took off. Glyphs are one of those ‘eccentric’ or 'archaic’ styles since they haven’t been used in so long after being lost and are barely understood. She still has a long way to go, but she is on her way.
Luz never really had much in the way of friends, partly cuz of high profile parents which leads to certain pressures and a target on her head, partly because of her magic style and personality, and partly because of the trouble been going on. Luz grew up her whole life with this tension of a group of anarchists trying to burn society that’s just trying to do the right thing. The anarchists started small, but have been a growing problem the past few decades with talk how to 'reshape the world’ in not a good way. Anyone with critical thinking skills can tell this is a bad idea, but they are too brainwashed to notice. They harass anyone who doesn’t follow their rhetoric and attack anyone who even questions them. Luz’s parents put a real kink in a lot of their plans for years, which makes Luz guilty by association.
Luz got caught in one of those sudden larger scuffles and was accidentally chucked/blown through a portal created by an attempted tactical retreat that went off course. Hence why she can’t go home because she hasn’t learned how to do portals yet. Those are high level anyway so how did these guys pull it off so easily? Luz has a hard time blending in obviously. Learning how to use a phone was a fun endeavor. Internet was a trip. Luz is amazed how these people can do all this cool stuff without magic. Keep a low profile sure, she can pass off as a weird out of town kid. Keep the beanie on, underperform in gym and stuff because some things don’t change, like genetics. Someone sharp eyed will see discrepancies. The Beanie has a small Glamor spell built in that covers her witchy traits but she forgot the ears which is why it sits like it does. Luz can erase memories in case she has an accident, but it’s less of a 'remove my face from this picture with a scalpel’, and more of a 'lemme just hack off the past hour or three from your brain with an axe.’ If she tries to take any more then she starts burning into some more dangerous territory and those Wiped are groggy and disoriented for a while after already. Then the magic attacks start happening and her heroic instinct/anti-bystander complex kicks in and there goes that. It runs in the family so Camilla isn’t surprised in the slightest when she finds out.
“Oh titan, why did you curse me with another me?” “I’m right here Mami!”
Eda has a shack very akin to Grunkle Stan. Lots of junk that Lilith can’t believe that people are dumb enough to buy. She’s also involved in some not so legal dealings on the side. Well, Eda isn’t actually hurting anybody and the tax dollars she should be paying would only go towards some politicians’ next yacht or another pointless overseas 'investment’ instead of where it’s supposed to go so. Eda does give some good intel on occasion and a place to vent so Lillith overlooks her. Lil’s more of the secret police for witches and a petty crook isn’t part of her job anyway. Eda understands Luz’s predicament and is willing to help. The cover story is that Camilla work in hospitals and has to work crazy hours while her dad passed away so is living with Eda for a while. King is that kind of critter that grew up weird and acts like ten different animals all the time.
Gus is the nerdy kid who infodumps on everybody, even if they’re not listening. Loves anything fantasy/sci-fi related and plays Minecraft too. A good kid at heart, but needs some social skills. Keep him away from anything more sugary than tea. Luz learned a lot listening to him. Not all of it is entirely useful, but still. Some of his ramblings give her some good ideas for magic and stuff, like putting Glyphs on cards.
The Blights are the cool rich kids obviously, and have some discipline and social issues. Big family name makes them intimidating for normies and a meal ticket for the unsavory. These kids need real friends. They decided to act out to get some attention from the parents who then decided to ignore them. “If you’re going to act like a child tantrum, get treated like one.” Ed is perfect for Drama classes, if he were allowed to partake. Can’t decide what Em is great at, hacking perhaps? Amity’s car is an inheritance from the only family to treat her as such Twins aside, even if she’s too young to remember it. She only remembers that she has feelings surrounding the car. All three of them were pretty impressed with Luz for standing up to them, calling them out on their shit, and not giving a crap about their family name. Being treated like a normal person is pretty weird. Can we get her to do that again?
Amity tried dating Boscha once, didn’t work out very well. Boscha is still hurting over Amity’s comment of “I’d rather go date the new weird kid (Luz) than go back to you.” It’s one of the reasons she goes after Luz. She has that kind of Bud personality from Spider Man, feels lesser and so acts out so much.
“Wow, this new Witch is amazing. Not as cool as the original Witch.”
“What is it with the Witch with you?”
“Oh, she’s a hero. Looks out for the city and the little guy. She inspires me. Makes me want to be a bigger person. *sees Luz* What’s up Luz-er?”
~
And that’s what I got right now. I know there was more, but it’s lost to the void right now. Might come back later, maybe not. Lemme know what you think.
............
DAMN you weren’t lying when you said you had an info-dump this is *chefs kiss* you got me intrigued now

I kinda wrote a mom eda fic, cause I wanted to try writing. This is like the first fic I've ever writen so keep in mind it's not gonna be perfect.. but I'm happy how it turned out.. so here!
Some honesty before breakfast
To say Eda had noticed something off with her apprentice, would be an understatement.
Luz's cheery attitude had all but disappeared for the past two days, and instead had been replaced with a quite sadness that followed the girl wherever she went in the house. Her smiles seemed forced, never quite reaching her eye's, lacking the warmth and joy they usually had.
Eda knew she should have seen this coming, the slow change in luz's demeanour. The portal had been destroyed a month ago, but she'd been too caught up in mourning the loss of her magic, processing the cluster fuck that had been the last few months and adjusting to her older sister taking up residency in her shed, she hadn't noticed.
She should have acted sooner.
Because Eda now watched Luz half heartedly engage in her and King's infamous and dreaded "comedy hour" with all the enthusiasm of Lilith on hooty's cleaning day.
"Luz, you're not paying attention!" King whined, "my food puns are genius, and not even a smirk!
"Come on, this is some of my best material!" The tiny demon added, dropping what was left of his toast onto his plate.
"Sorry king, I was paying attention" Luz assured pushing her untouched breakfast away "I was just thinking as well, that's all.."
"Sounds like not paying attention to me" He grumbled.
Sounds like a terrible cover up.
Eda finished the last of her Appleblood, pushed away from the counter she was leaning on and picked King up earning a "nyee" from him as she placed him on the floor.
"why don't you go play with your army of dolls or something?" Eda told him.
"They're my army of darkness!" He corrected "and its not playing, it's scheming. machinating if you will"
"Whatever, go do that. I need to talk to Luz" She sighed.
Luz shifted in her seat, and went to leave.
"Actually,  I have a ton of homework so-"
"Nope" Eda cut the girl off "you stay, king go" she ordered
King muttered something about world domination as he scurried off, and Luz and Eda were left alone of the kitchen.
"So.. is this about potions delivery's?" Luz asked "because I know I haven't been doing the deliveries alot lately and-"
"Kid, what?-no, that isn't what this is about"
Luz fidgeted with the string of her hoody "then, what is this about?"
"You tell me, you've been acting weird lately- well weirder than usual" Eda said, taking Kings seat at the table and pushing his leftovers aside.
"Its not that big a deal, really" Luz said, but the waver in her voice betrayed her.
Titan help her.
Eda sighed and rubbed her eyes "Look, I'm not an idiot kid, I know somethings up, and I know the past month has been rough. For everyone"
And here comes the emotional mush..
"I know it can't be easy" Eda continued, trying to choose her next words carefully.
"Living under the same roof as Lilith after what's happened, or adjusting to all this crap,  the portal door being destroyed.."
Titan she had no clue what she was doing. How do you comfort people?
"But I want you to know that whatever the problem is, I'm here to help. it matters if it upsets you" Eda told her "and I'll be hexed if I'll let my kid suffer in silence"
"So what's bothering you?"
They sat there for a moment. Eda wasn't sure if her lackluster attempt at reassurance had helped the girl, she searched Luz's face for any signs of what she might be thinking.
Finally, Luz let out in a shakey breath "I miss my mom"
Ah, shit. Of course, the poor kid missed her mother. She really should have guessed that.
"I destroyed the door, to stop belos and- and to save you" Luz's voice cracked " but I miss her.. y'know? .. when things would go wrong back home, she was always there, she knew what to do..." Tears started well in her eyes and spill out onto her cheeks.
Luz sucked in a breath of air " I don't know what to do..the doors gone, and it's my fault and she's probably really worried about me, and its MY fault.
"Im scared I'll never see her again. Eda, I miss my home. I miss my mom"
Of course. None of this was Luz's fault though. Not really. It was Eda's. She was the adult and should have sent her home that first day. But she was selfish and now Luz was paying the price.
"I don't regret saving you though" She continued,  and Eda blinked in surprise.
"Leaving you guys behind was never an option. being here with you and King.. its kinda like home here too" Another shakey breath.
"I know I shouldn't complain 'cause I did this to my self but-" Luz's voice cut off and gave way to sobbing.
Eda didn't know how it happened but she found herself at the other side of the table, wrapping Luz up in one of those "parallel arm" things.
She scooped the girl up easily and sat her on her lap, holding her close as Luz continued to cry. This poor kid, who'd brought so much light into Eda's life, Changed it for the better, magic be damned, was suffering and there was no way in hell Eda was going to stand back and watch her blame herself.
Luz had given up everything.
In one of the few times where Eda felt compeled to do the right thing, Eda vowed to herself she'd make this right.
"Luz" The witch said with a softness that surprised herself "None of this is your fault, it's OK to be upset"
"it's my fault not yours, I want- no. need you to know that. I'm gonna fix this. I'll find a way to get you back home, and you'll be able to see your mom again" she said, stroking her hair.
"I promise"
Luz looked up from where she had her head buried in Eda's sweater, her eyes were red rimmed and puffey. Luz rubbed at her eyes, and sniffed.
"You promise?" Luz asked, voice horse.
Eda nodded, brushing some of luz's hair back, fixing it.
"I promise, and that's a promise from the most powerful witch on the boiling Isles, kiddo. it's a big deal, infact you should feel kinda honoured"
Luz laughed. And there it was. That smile that had been missing for so long. Eda wasn't going to let anything happen to it again.
"I kind of ruined your sweater" Luz said apologetically as she pulled away.
Eda looked down at her sweater. yep. Human snot. Gross as all hell.
"Don't worry about it, I didn't like the sweater anyway"
Yes she did.
Luz jumped off of Eda's lap "how do you feel now?" Eda asked
"better" Luz smiled, rubbing her eyes still.
"Good, I can't have my apprentice's in emotional distress" eda smirked "it'd be bad for business"
"I'm your only apprentice" Luz shot back grinning.
"details" Eda waved her hand dismissively.
Eda looked at her now. She wasn't crying anymore, which was good. Eda could still see residual tears, but Luz was smiling, no matter how small it was, she was actually smiling again, and that was what mattered.
A loud definitive gurgle sounded through out the room.
"I never ate breakfast" Luz whispered sheepishly.
Luz turned back to her breakfast cereal to see it had long since turned to disgusting mush in the bowl.
"i'll eat something else.." She decided heading towards the cupboards.
Eda had an idea.
"We could make something"
Luz perked up.
"Really?!"
"I mean, yeah why not?" Eda shrugged " I haven't eaten yet and-"
"Can we make pancakes?!" The girl asked with barely contained excitement "I can dress King up in a little chefs outfit, and we could have pancakes!"
"Um.."
"I have so much prep work to do!" Luz exclaimed as she dashed out the door.
"Kid!" Eda called
"Yeah?" Luz popped her head back in the door.
"Don't forget that if your ever worried about anything at all, you can talk to me. I meant what I said, I'm here to help"
"I know, thanks Eda. I love you" and she was gone.
Eda blinked.
"I love you too, Luz"
