Profiles in Villainy

Gru

The infamous super villain, Felonius Gru, is the son of Marlena and the late Robert Gru.  Taking after his father, Felonius established himself as a renown criminal of epic proportions.  Among his many evil accomplishments were the stealing the jumbotron from Times Square, as well as pilfering the replicas of the Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower from the Las Vegas Strip.  He has been aided in his various schemes by the brilliant inventor, Dr. Nefario, and a legion of artificially generated puckish servants known as The Minions.

Seeking to become the greatest super villain of all time, Gru set out to steal the Moon.  In order to do so, he needed to first obtain a powerful shrink ray from the fellow villain, Vector.  In the course of this caper, Gru found himself having to care for three orphan children named Margo, Edith, and Agnes.  

At first, Gru was annoyed and irritated by the antics of these three little girls.  Yet their sweetness, innocence and need for care gradually caused Gru to warm to them.  Gru had been terribly bullied as a child as well as neglected by his own parents.  The chance to offer these girls the happy childhood that he never had but so desperately wanted brought about a change in Gru.  He ultimately decided to abandon villainy and formerly adopted the trio.  

This brought about very possessive changes in Gru’s life.  Although he is never able to become the world’s greatest villain, he is much happier and fulfilled.  He went on to marry Lucy Wilde and along with their daughters and the scores of Minions, he was able to create a warm and happy family.  

Actor Steve Carell provides the voice for the former villain.  Felonius Gru first appeared in the 2010 animated feature, Despicable Me.
