Shun, Andromeda
Profile
Name: Shun
Age: 16 y.o.
Nationality: Japanese
Height: 1.68 m
Hair Color: Chestnut
Eye Color: Blue
Skin: Light
Summary
Shun is a Bronze Saint, presiding over the Andromeda constellation. Like his older brother, Ikki, he was one of the orphans taken by Mitsumada Kido and the Graad Foundation, trained and raised to acquire Cloths and become Saints.
Shun was meant to be sent to Deathqueen's Island, a desolate place, but his older brother decided to go in his stead. As a result, he was sent to Andromeda Island, where he acquired the Andromeda Cloth.
Extremely smart and insightful, Shun will often comment on topics his peers do not know of, and may enlighten them on their current situation. Despite being a warrior, he is quite fond of pacifism, and avoids violence unless absolutely necessary. In similar fashion, when his allies use extreme violence, he seems to disapprove it.
For example, when Sagitta Ptolemy begs Seiya to take his life, Shun protests. To him, all life is precious, even that of the worst criminal.
This contrasts with Ikki's murderous intent. Even still, Ikki seems to admire his younger brother's mercy, which is why he spared the life of Dark Hydra, whom Shun refused to kill beforehand.
Shun's intelligence is a great asset to Athena, hence why she appoints him to lead her new intelligence group long after the civil war. Under his guidance, intelligence takes great strides in uncovering the past of Saga and Kanon.
His hobbies include reading and playing chess, the latter which he happily did with Saori before her awakening.
June has been his best friend since they were children, but Shun quickly grew intimate with Hyoga when they met again. It is implied he harbors deep romantic feelings for Hyoga, despite it being unlawful for Saints to engage in such relationships.

Sometimes I get nice reviews on FF.net, and I got another one. I think some of the comments the person made are really thoughtful. It made me wonder a few things about my fanfic, its contrast with canon, etc. I want to add words to some of what has been said, first as a form of gratitude for every nice comment, but also in the hopes that others might find my insights interesting.
1) "The other Bronze Saints don't disappear after the Galaxian War, Sanctuary feels like an actual community […]"
Hopefully more people feel this way about my portrayals. One of the major issues with works like Saint Seiya is the vast amount of underused/ill-used characters. We have tons of these, mostly Silver and Bronze Saints. How I did June is already a sign that I want to better portray minor characters.
Please, I wish for others to take this for their stories too, wherever possible and desirable. The best way I found to achieve it is so find uses for those characters: because Sanctuary is a true society, all-out war was necessary to take down the Pope; Marin is Athena's contact on the inside; Jabu and the others are her allies in preparing a rebellion, but their known participation in the Galaxian Wars means they're a target for the Pope; Silver Saints like Crow and Auriga are a part of Sanctuary's intelligence, and appeared way earlier in the story than my readers have noticed, leading to the purge that initiates the war. People like them, Lizard, Centaurus, Cerberus, etc. are not evil, they are all Saints serving Athena, misled by lies. Their deaths are terrible things, and the Bronze Saints respect their corpses and Cloths like any other.
I understand that characters are not real people, but tools for the plot. I try to enrich the plot of SS by ensuring that characters are not oversimplified caricatures, and that they have some use whenever possible. I learned a lot about writing better stories by doing this.
2) "You've done so much work with the Gold Saints, not only clearing up inconsistencies from their canon portrayals, but also making them so much more interesting! Deathmask and Shaka stand out to me in particular; the former because his initial canon portrayal was a) one dimensional and b) really at odds with how he ended up being portrayed in later spinoffs, and the latter because his first appearance had so many personality differences from his later version that they feel like two different characters."
Like the anime, I omitted the manga's random visit that Shaka does in Deathqueen's. This would make his encounter with Ikki in Sanctuary less impactful, so I had to find a way to make up for it. I was always confused about what Kurumada wanted from Shaka, so I instead reinforced his Mahayana Buddhism. He's the first Gold Saint who, instead of using lethal force, incapacitates the Bronze Saints and waits for a word from Mu. Originally, the Six-Path Transmigration could kill someone; in my version, it can only ensnare someone indefinitely. There's tension between Shaka's non-violence and Ikki's bloody past.
That is both consistent and interesting, and the length of Shaka's chapter (the longest so far) is also a demonstration of how long the Bronze Saints were actually trapped with him. It was more than enough time for Hyoga's senses to heal.
These changes fit well to me, Shaka becoming a more stable character. Buddhist mendicants are like that: tranquil, reasonable, and distinguishable. You feel safe near them.
My Deathmask is the opposite, a potential menace. He's not an evil man and certainly serves Athena, though he's also an extreme pragmatist. Sure, he has some distasteful opinions, but that's a personality flaw. We all have flaws.
What was Deathmask in the original? He was an obstacle for the Bronze Saints. Shiryu's question is, "how can an evil man become a Gold Saint?" The canon's answer is that sometimes evil people achieve great power (this is fine, but repetitive due to Saga, etc.), whereas my fanfic's answer is that Deathmask isn't evil at all. Shiryu is mistaken.
In "A Strife of Silver", I made Athena say this: "We need Saints as sweet as Shun, and Saints as severe as [Shaina]." She believes both mellow and harsh Saints are necessary for a functioning Sanctuary. There is no ideal personality for a Saint, which means Deathmask is good and in his righteous role.
The worst part in my fanfic, however, is that Shaka is just a super strong dude. Deathmask, in the other hand, holds the fabric of existence together. I rewrote the Cancer Saint to be crucial to the Underworld, Sanctuary, and Heaven. If no one tends for the souls in the House of Cancer, reincarnations suffer a great toll.
This makes Deathmask less unidimensional, more useful, more interesting, and forces me to write him with depth. There's background plot that will slowly be unveiled over time for him, and his death will echo until the Heaven Arc.
3) "[…] then you have the early introduction of the other realms, which is phenomenally appreciated! Especially getting a brief glimpse of Olympus here; one of my biggest frustrations with Saint Seiya is that we still haven't gotten a proper Heaven Chapter, even with all the spinoffs still coming out."
I'd like to know, do you have a personal theory on why Kurumada and Toei never gave us that? I never understood it. I feel that there's a disconnect between what fans long for in a popular IP, and the risks most authors and companies are willing to take. Kurumada had a vision for Heaven Chapter, and that's Next Dimension. It's ok, just not what I wanted. Maybe I'm somewhat of a fatalist, but my fanfic has a beginning and an end, no loose threads. We will go from Japan to Heaven, and it will finish there. That's a big bet to make.
Since I know where I'm going, I know the limits of my universe, and I explore it once it's convenient or needed. The Underworld and Heaven had to appear now, because Deathmask affects them too greatly not to. This hints at more visits from Heaven over time. Actually, Pandora is subtly alluded to for the first time in the Dark Saints Arc, so I wonder if any readers noticed that. She's obviously going to be much more of a key character than in the original.
In all fairness, we have the benefit of hindsight, so we can tie up plot points neatly like that. It's a wonderful, privileged position to be in, not unlike, well… Netflix's scriptwriters. I preface this expressing genuine respect for their labor, despite disliking the results.
With that said, here's another reminder that this is my vision for what I wanted the Netflix show to be. It has all of our Western grittiness mixed in: questions of Becoming, morality, love, hate, violence, peace, and a constant exploration of death and its outcomes. Contrasting this with the X-Men: Saint Seiya we got from Netflix gives me a chuckle. I naively hoped for Netflix to give us all of those things we didn't get from Toei, but here I am, 260,000+ words into writing my vision.
If I had been hired by Netflix, I would've pressured executives and leads in the directions I laid down. Alright, let's make wild changes, make June a main character, focus on Jabu and friends some more, give Marin and Shaina space, double down on Hyoga and Shun, fix Deathmask, create new characters, show the Underworld and Heaven early on, turn Seika into someone else… but keep it Saint Seiya.

I promise not all chapters will be as long as the latest one; I got too excited. Here are changes on Shaka's side of the story for my fanfic (slight spoilers only):
In the manga, Shaka confronted Ikki for the first time in Deathqueen's Island. I follow the anime and don't have this scene.
Shaka lost most of his mannerisms from the manga. He's more of a serene monk.
Shaka abides by nonviolence wherever possible, so he scales up power based on the need to stop the Saints, always avoiding a kill.
The Six-Path Transmigration needs contact between Shaka and the target. It's also a way more in-depth technique, and we get to see the Saints trapped in it. It cannot kill a person on its own.
Treasures of Heaven is replaced by the Realms of Formlessness, which has four degrees. This requires Shaka to meditate and have contact with the target. It still affects the senses, but only temporarily. Some people are impervious to certain degrees if they meditated enough in their lives (in Buddhist terms, if they have reached the arupa-dhyanas).

its really funny how stans get upset when characters are mean and rude to poor little nesta, when certain characters tell her mean cruel things😥
as if nesta doesn’t purposefully rip into peoples insecurities to hurt them and likes doing it too. i mean…fuck some of these stans are so hypocritical like babes? i thought you like female mean characters who give no fucks? well then why dont you like it when mor, amren, elain and feyre act like nesta and gives no fucks?
why is it okay for nesta to open her mouth and spew cruel shit to feyre? but when mor opens her mouth and tells nesta she doesn’t deserve anyone apparently thats not okay?
why is it okay for nesta to blame elain for their fathers death? but when elain gets a back bone and tells nesta off suddenly thats not appropriate?
why is it okay for nesta to go off on people? but when amren pops off and tells nesta every single thing others dont have the guts to say to her suddenly thats mean and cruel?
why is it that none of the characters can even look at nesta the wrong way before nesta stans start spewing of words like harassment, abuse, entitlement, blah blah
but when nesta does it, for no reason bc nesta never has a reason to be rude, suddenly its #girlboss! #queenofqueens!! #powerfulwarriorvalkyrie!!! #deathqueen!!!!
why is it okay for no one to hurt nesta with words but it is totally, 100% okay for nesta to do as she pleases. i mean stans bitch and bitch about how everyone was so horrid to poor depressed nesta in acosf and they all deserve hell but when we point out how horrible nesta was in all the books suddenly being in denial is the stans new favorite hobby. suddenly we’re all idiots who lack reading comprehension bc what are we talking about? nesta has always been an innocent victim :(
if nesta gets to act the way she does without any repercussions then the same goes for the others.

i always wonder that... does Captain Barnacles have a trauma experience, other than just His childhood fear of tight spaces backstory. he have been traumatized his childhood fear and something that cause him trauma.
tagging @apple-deathqueens because they asked a very similar question:
Tumblr media
[angst warning]
y e a h .
one of my interests is psychology so lemme ramble for a sec-
It's very likely that he has some kind of trauma not related to his claustrophobia backstory; he's terrible at expressing and sharing his feelings, experiences separation anxiety if alone for even a minute, needs to be constantly doing something "useful" or he gets stressed, etc. He had to have learned this behavior from somewhere.
AND; something definitely happened on the Manitoba.
Barnacles has plenty of old friends from his past, like Natquik, Tracker, Boris, and Harry. So—why on Earth would he leave his entire crew on the Manitoba behind, never to talk to them again, or even mention them?
It's not like he hated being on the Manitoba, and hated his crew on it, because if he did why would he keep the wheel and anchor from the ship in his room?
Even just the presence of those two things being there imply that he was in a shipwreck. Possibly one where he lost his whole crew, and never learned what happened to them. That's why he's so protective of his current crew—and that's where his separation anxiety comes from.

Zabini Estate, Masquerade, 8:00pm Closed to @deathqueen
Lucius strode toward the door with his wife on his arm. He wasn’t going to arrive at an event in any other way, regardless of whether or not people could see who he was--not that he was truly hiding. Lucius never likes when people didn’t know who he was. Everyone always should. He had had his doubts about the event, and if it had been held by a family other than the Zabini’s, he may not have attended, but he knew regardless of his misgivings about the night, it would be decadent enough to be worth a night out.
“I wonder just whose idea it was to have a masquerade party at a time like this. It seems to be inviting trouble,” he commented casually to his wife.  “And I’m not really sure how I feel about the idea of masquerades to begin with. I just don’t understand the point.” He looked down at the crowds already gathering about. “I did hope that being the Zabini’s their guest list would be a little more...exclusive.” He turned to look at her. “You will watch yourself tonight, won’t you?”
