Cassie: So...you ever thought about having another? Darren: ANOTHER?! Cassie, Laurel is already a handful. Cassie: She is not! She's as sweet as can be. Besides, I want to have a baby with you. That way we can BOTH have the experience of being pregnant.
Tumblr media
Darren: I, uh...I'll think about it.

HOLY SHIT ANT MAN QUANTUMANIA SLAPPED
Tumblr media
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
holy shit
that was wild af
ok first of all, them not even being subtle w the whole thing being kind of a metaphor for colonization? our first intro to teen cassie being her getting arrested for fighting back attacks on a peaceful protest? slaps
Tumblr media
i love her sm.
also the whole time i could not get over how great everyone’s eyelashes looked
i want the scott book so bad fr you can buy it through marvel
RYAN? AS IN BUZZFEED UNSOLVED RYAN?
I SCREAMED BRO AND SO DID MY FRIEND
the quantum realm looked so cool so things i thought were cool saga:
the manta ray flying thing
the snail horses
the hot general lady
the hot telepath
the sun jellyfish
um. the ant society? hello there are probs trillions of them what we saw at the end was a tiny fraction and i love that for them so much. you don’t understand that made me so happy.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS DARREN
HOWD HE GO FROM THIS
Tumblr media
TO THIS
Tumblr media
shit was horrific and when i first saw it i very loudly said “oh my gawd” in a full imax theater
ok but his death made me so sad. like cassie just gave him this great pep talk and he fuckin dies. what the hell. rip new avenger
maybe i’m just too emotional
hot general lady was hot and her staff could make people disappear
WHYD THEY KILL THE ROBOT DUDE NO
HE LOOKED LIKE RESIN
>:(
janet being a badass fr fr
omg my ear is bleeding
oh well moving on
that scene in the probability storm with all the scotts helping each other made me cry baskin robins scott slayed
ok but the rings around kang’s ship thing reminded me of the shang chi rings
and the ten rings were also emitting a signal, like how they all got into the quantum realm in the first place
Tumblr media
the mid credits scene confused me lmao. i guess it’s the council thing from the loki series
BUT THAT POST CREDIT SCENE
ooh.
#let möbius and loki kiss 2023
Tumblr media
but overall, this movie slapped. i say that about every movie but still. i loved the emphasis on scott and cassie’s relationship, i thought the special effects looked cool, and the creativity put into making the people of the quantum realm diverse but still very human was tangible.
10/10 good movie, though i do think it’s funny that ant man went from “thief that hangs out with his bestie in san francisco and occasionally fights with the avengers” to “oh my god he saved everyone and is now stuck with a very powerful multiversal enemy”

Modok: at least I died an Avenger
Hank: well I don’t think that’s-
Cassie: babe quick make it official
Y/N: uh…poof! you’re an Avenger now
Modok: thank you
Modok passes away…
Hank: why did you tell him that?!
Cassie: it’s called honoring a dying wish
Y/N: yeah. It’s not like he could come back right? Can he?
Scott: yeah just let the bobble head floating guy die with dignity.

i think everyone forgets what a good movie ant-man was and how it had everything a marvel movie needed.
✓ cohesive plot that actually makes sense ✓ fleshed-out side characters that add depth to the story and protagonist ✓ an antagonist with a good/real motive ✓ being funny, but not at the cost of the story and not for simple comedic relief ✓ character interactions that makes sense (*cough*whatthefuckwasthemorbiusendcreditsscene*cough*) ✓ plot points that draw on human emotion
i love scott lang, our anti-capitalist king and bestest father in the world. i love luis, the heart and comedy of the story, the person who stuck by scotty the entire time. i love cassie, the adorable daughter of scott who refused to believe that the father who was always there for her was a bad person. i love the comparison of hope and darren, how they were treated by hank and how they decided to handle their betrayl (with darren cross being the "bad" and hope pym being the "good"). i love hope pym, the woman still grieving for her mother, finding forgiveness in her heart for the father that pushed her away but inevitable still cares for her. i love the campiness of luis' narration style. i love love LOVE the ant-man movie, it is definitely one of my favorite marvel films.

Stature vs. M.O.D.O.K.
I love this fight. My two favorite characters in the movie go at it. It's short and it's silly and yet weirdly poignant nonetheless.
Darren, up to this point, has been brought up a couple of times as a bogeyman of Cassie's past. She vividly remembers the Yellowjacket fight in her bedroom when she was a kid and it haunts her. She doesn't make much of a thing about it but it's clear she's carrying that memory around.
And now she has to fight him. She has to face this spector from her past.
But this isn't a dramatic fight. Rather, it's a ridiculous one. Darren is a ridiculous man. A pathetic little worm unworthy of the years of trauma he inflicted on a little girl. Cassie confronts the ghost haunting her past and she finds out that he is made of paper. He always was.
He's not a monster. He's not an epic villain. He's just a dick. That's all he is. It's all he ever was. By the end of the fight, he's literally begging her to define his self-worth. He has no power over her.

Also a lot of people seem confused as to why Cassie telling MODOK he wasn't bad was important. It's because until he came to the Quantum Realm, he didn't see himself as the villain. He knew attacking Cassie to get to Scott was bad, but justified it to himself.
As a result, he is physically torn apart and then into some weird suit. Kang made him into this creature. Makes him kill people. He failed at the multiple selves task. He's a puppet now. He used to be a CEO.
His life went down a dark path. When he attacked Cassie was when it veered onto that path. So her saying he's not that bad vindicates that the villainous stuff was Kang's fault (it's not all Kang's fault; he still tried to kill a child but it's pretty different level bad).
I'm not saying it was a well-done fleshed out role and I bet Corey Stoll is waiting for his Oscar nom. But I saw what they were going for. He wanted to be a hero and ended up a villain.

Unceremoniously, discretely, Laurel ages up. How long will Darren and Cassie be able to keep her hidden from the prying eyes of Pleasantview? Do they really NEED to?

((Right!! Like how good a dad is that? As per usual, Cassie came first. He let her know he was there and everything would be okay. Then Ant-Dad went all “not my daughter bitch” on Darren.
That’s a very telling moment in what kind of dad Scott is and always has been. Because you’re right, there have been a lot of cinematic moments where the protector doesn’t let the kid know it’s them and it only freaks them out more. Unnecessarily. Scott knew it was worth the quick few seconds just to reassure Cassie it was him before he went ham on Darren.
I love that so much honestly.))

Ok but Cassie’s pep talk was literally
C: just don’t be a dick
D: but I am a dick
C: you can choose to not be a dick
Like bruh it wasn’t a great pep talk I’m sorry, that shit was awful. I’m not fucking kidding they said dick 3 times in a row which yeah is funny and the general premise is sorta funny but it’s not a good pep talk lmao
