Idk if I’m just incapable of writing straight characters or if the gods have just spoken through me but I’ve been writing one of my few straight girl characters and realizing more and more that this girl is gay af and it’s a problem cuz I’ve already got her whole arc planned out of the different guys she dates and her endgame guy and there’s really no room for a sensible gay awakening but I’m worried she might be a lesbian lmao

a long rant/idea/rambling of how i want bbc merlin plot to go

Season 1

General: stays the same (light-hearted season) but merlin starts to question gaius and kilgharrah, empathizes with morgana. Elyan is introduced somewhere between episodes. Gwen father didn’t die. Mordred ISN’T introduced yet. Morgana is gaslighted by merlin + gaius (not forever i swear guys)

Finale: merlin vs nimueh (epic battle this time), merlin is almost close to loosing but gaius helps him, however nimueh survives

Season 2

General: introduction of mordred on the second ep (merlin hates him), ep 1 is abt balinor (mentor figure for merlin + should meet with hunnith), arthur finds out abt ygraine (and yes merlin lied abt it) + starts questioning uther, we got more arthur’s pov when merlin is at the ‘tavern’ (episodes where merlin is not there and focuses on arthur instead), morgana finds out abt her magic. Freya + gwen romance plotline happened. Percival + Gwaine introduction, merthur kiss but they never acknowledge it (yep they’re in denial)

Finale: kilgharrah lost hope of merlin so he turns to nimueh (in a hidden scene nimueh told arthur the truth abt his birth), nimueh + uther battle (but nimueh lost NOO), balinor DIES, merlin stops kilgharrah, glimpse of morgause (at the ep end). Morgana made a decision to kill uther

Season 3

General: aithusa is born (morgana + kilgharrah + merlin really likes her), morgana villain arc (she finds out that merlin is gatekeeping magic from her + merlin trying to kill mordred lmao), either morgwen romance or gwencelot (i can’t choose), gwen’s father died, this season = gwen’s arc

Finale: magic reveal, uther’s death, morgouse + morgana attacked the castle, morgana and morgouse fighting + breaking of to their own path (morgana realizes morgause is kind of twisted evil)

Season 4

General: arthur banning merlin from camelot (merlin runaway arc), arthur + gwen + the knights running the kingdom, morgana redemption arc, morgouse + aggravaine becomes main villain, political shit in camelot (like other kingdom who also despises sorcery/power manipulation, an in-depth look of other kingdoms), GAIUS DIES, hunnith + aithusa + kilgharrah scenes, mordred + merlin + morgana bonding, ygraine scenes, arthur trying to forget merlin but CANT, oh and aggravaine is also a villain here but he actually has personality and pure evil, arthur getting excalibur, arthur is really struggling to find himself here (to be like his father or follows his heart). Btw merlin is there and it shows every time magic related enemies attacks camelot/everytime arthur is about to die really but he’s literally in the shadows now and arthur pretends not to notice

Finale: morgause + aggravaine attacking the kingdom, arthur accepts + forgiving merlin + morgana back and assign them as court sorceress + court physician, hunnith scenes, arthur tolerating magic, adopting mordred (apology for killing his father lol), probably adopting aithusa

Season 5

General: arthur lifts the ban against magic, marrying merlin, cendred is a villain here (however he is introduced in s4), merlin GETTING A STAFF (also introduced in previous seasons but he’s worthy of it here, arthur made it btw and it’s a power up for melrin)

Finale: morgause + cendred finale attack, a few deaths (they won thoe cuz this is the good ending)

End:

Camelot brings a new era (symbolizing change)

Merlin: Queen

Gwen: Court Advisor

Morgana: Court Sorceress

Why i think merthur should be canon:

1) they’re gay

2) real reason: so i think its good for the plot too since magic is a euphemism for gay, relates to the theme of arthur bringing change to camelot but other than marrying a servant, he marries a MALE servant who has magic ☺️🫶😘🙏

thoughts on the new character bios/interviews that the dreamworks twitter posted below the cut, as promised

so right off the bat, i’m trying to figure out when these interviews took place. it seems to be along the lines of a ‘where are they now?’ for the nublar six, so it’d be long enough after their rescue for them to be settled back in their lives. in terms of exact timing, my guess would be it’s 2-3 years before the time frame of chaos theory, and here’s why.

ben’s part mentions him starting college. if he was 14 during JWCC, he would be around 17 at the time of JW fallen kingdom (ie. during the epilogue scene) cuz it’s 3 years after JW. this would make him roughly 21 during chaos theory cuz it’s supposed to be around the same time as JW dominion (i think so, anyway, could be misremembering), which is 4 years after fallen kingdom. while it’s possible ben delayed his start at college bc of the whole ‘was stranded on dinosaur island for a while’ thing, starting at 21 seems pretty late. so this would most likely indicate the interviews were closer to the timing of the epilogue scene, maybe a year or two after (putting ben at 17-19).

more evidence: darius’s part portrays him as fairly well-adjusted and mentions him traveling to give talks, as we saw in the epilogue. we know that at the start of chaos theory, darius has been isolating himself for an unknown amount of time following brooklynn’s supposed death. i doubt ‘the dino times’ would’ve been able to get ahold of him for an interview.

final point: kenji’s part mentions his relationship with brooklynn and that “all is good in casa de kenji.” so like, it’s very unlikely brooklynn is ‘dead’ yet LMAO

the only thing that snags at me is sammy’s part saying she has her own ranch now. if this interview took place a couple years before chaos theory, she wouldn’t be older than 20. that’s a pretty damn young age to own and operate your own ranch- but since she comes from a family of ranchers, it wouldn’t be impossible. perhaps her family purchased some additional land for her to manage a smaller herd and they stay in close business with each other (providing surplus calves as replacement heifers for sammy’s herd, for example). either way, we stan a strong independent businesswoman.

also there’s the fact that they didn’t make one for brooklynn, when theoretically she would’ve still been alive at the time these interviews were done. but i think the dreamworks team might’ve just been concerned that ppl would confuse the timeline and use it as proof brooklynn is alive (full disclosure: i fully believe brooklynn is alive but ofc the show wants us to still think she’s dead) so i could see them leaving her out just for that reason.

now that the timeline junk is of the way, here’s more random thoughts.

yaz doesn’t seem to have returned to her career as an aspiring pro athlete (seems like something the interviewer would’ve mentioned if she had). this feeds my headcanon of her retaining permanent damage to her ankle quite well. also, the trauma. sammy’s part says they “don’t have time to keep worrying about all that running for our lives stuff.” maybe that’s part of it: yaz decided to just settle down and enjoy the quiet life on the ranch. good for her!!

kenji opened up a climbing school?? that’s random as fuck but i’m here for it. on the surface, it seems like the kinda thing rich tourists would sign up for- y’know, the ppl who travel to exotic places around the world to climb shit. but it’s actually a super useful skill to have in a post-dinosaur world, and kenji knows all too well how important these kinds of skills are for survival. so for me, it’s a choice that reflects the maturing he did during his character arc.

i’ve seen some ppl speculating that yasammy might’ve had a breakup/relationship issues. i sincerely hope that’s not the case- at the time of the interviews, they seemed to be in a very committed relationship, but since that was prob a couple years ago i guess there’s a chance something could’ve happened after. fingers crossed i’m wrong and we’ll just get loads of wonderful yasammy content in the show🤞

i’m curious what ben went/was going to college for. considering the epilogue slated him as researching with mae on mantah corp island, i wonder if he’d pursue some kind of neuro/psych/animal behavior thing.

yaz anxiety mention! god please let the show delve into all the PTSD these kids must’ve brought back from the island.

This chapter was absolutely NUTS, so talk about it shall we...? 👍

Okay, so... When I first opened up this chapter, my dumb ass thought that this was Twilight being woken up by Fiona...: 😅

Obviously it was Yuri, but I still got a little worried that Endo was gonna skip Fiona and Wheeler's confrontation...! 😤

Anyway, it turns out that the female SSS officer that we saw at beginning of this arc is the one that wakes up Yuri, and her name is Chole...!! (Which honestly makes me laugh because Scarface and Agent Mustache have been in the series for a way longer time than Chole has, AND WE STILL DON'T KNOW THEIR NAMES!! 😵 Endo, you nut... 😌)

Then, after Scarface tells Yuri to get some medical treatment and for Chole to help him to get there, Yuri starts to wonder to himself about Twilight, and...:

...HE HASN'T FULLY FIGURED IT OUT YET! 😅 Which tells me that Yuri loves doesn't suspect his brother-in-law and would probably have to see that Loid is injured the same way as Twilight before he jumps to that conclusion...!! 😖

Moving on, we cut back to where Wheeler, Nightfall and Twilight are, and things couldn't be more intense...!!

Wheeler has Twilight hostage and threatens to kill him like he did for that other agent back in Mission 84, but unlike last time...

...Nightfall does in fact, drop her weapon... And because of that, Wheeler figures that she must care for Twilight, so tells her THIS:

Nightfall then rushes towards Wheeler, and before he could properly react...

NIGHTFALL KNOCKS WHEELER DOWN!! 😵

(Breaking her arm in the process...!! 😰)

And y'know what, I'm starting to get the impression that Endo might have a thing for women that can kick his ass...!! 😏 (Just like Twilight...!) 😎👍

octonauts ATLA au 🤲

Barnacles is an EXTREMELY powerful waterbender from the North Pole, with a strong love for icebending—he defaults to it most of the time. He can use all subforms of waterbending, but they're a bit harder.

Kwazii's the Avatar, but he's still a pirate AND he's a natural firebender, so he still has that "scary and dangerous" reputation. He's afraid of using his firebending, because he hates it. Barnacles is teaching him waterbending, and he's pretty good at it. So far he sucks at earthbending, and his airbending is okay, but if he gets worked up it can accidentally come out as fire... which, yeah.

Peso is an airbender, and the first one in his family. He's not very skilled at bending, and he can't fly very well, and sometimes wishes he was a waterbender, like Barnacles. That way he'd be "stronger", and could utilize its healing abilities. He has an epiphany later on in the middle of S3 that makes him realize how powerful he really is, and he learns to fly :)

Tweak is an earthbender, which she inherited from her dad (maybe*). Like Barnacles, she has a love and preference for a specific subtype—in her case it's metalbending. She's very good at it. It's how she builds GUPs so fast.

Shellington is a waterbender. He doesn't use it very much, mainly because he's Not Great at controlling it—so you'll either end up getting lightly spit on or completely drenched in a tsunami by accident.

Dashi is a non-bender (with water tribe ancestry), which puts her at a disadvantage during some missions. However! She has all of her skills from the Canon Universe, plus the extra adaptiveness seen in non-benders in ATLA (Sokka, Suki, etc).

Inkling is also a non-bender, but he has studied the elements and different bending techniques his whole life. He's Kwazii's Monk Gyatso but with less dying.

Octoagents! 👇

Calico Jack is Kwazii's Uncle Iroh. I needn't explain further. His main goal is to teach Kwazii to be less afraid of his firebending.

Natquik is a waterbender, who taught Barnacles everything he knows. He got his penchant for icebending from him. He pretty much invented it. He survived Antarctica by ✨ Becoming One With The Ice™ ✨. He doesn't just study icequakes, he can make them. He can probably spiritbend.

*I'm TORN between making Marsh be an earthbender or a waterbender. If he's an earthbender, then he can't metalbend like Tweak can, but he's still very strong. Like, scarily strong 👀. IF HE'S A WATERBENDER, then he's a swampbender, full stop.

Tracker is an airbender, mainly because of how he's clearly paralleling Peso's arc in AnB. He was the only airbender in his Polar Scouts troop, and he got picked on for it a bit—but Barnacles thought it was cool as heck, and that's how they became friends.

Do I need to explain Paani being a waterbender? No I do not. He's probably VERY powerful, but very chillax about it. He successfully freaks out everyone who witnesses him bend every time. He can part the seas like freaking Moses.

Pearl is a waterbender like Shellington; she's not super strong, but she has a LOT more control over it than he does. Peri will be a waterbender as well, but he hasn't unlocked it yet. He's trying very hard because he wants to be like his mum and uncle SO badly.

Min could easily be a bender of any kind and it would make sense, but I kinda wanna say she's a non-bender. Just cuz ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

Earthbender Ryla. That's all. It makes it a lot easier to get out of caves when she's stuck. She's very casual about it. So casual, that most people either forget or don't even realize she's a bender until it comes up. Then they're like "oh yeah." as she literally moves mountains.

Airbender Pinto, who has no clue how to control it. Whenever he gets frustrated with himself, he accidentally creates small tornadoes. He can also fly! He likes to brag about it. a lot. mainly to Peso.

Waterbender Koshi, who hasn't discovered that about herself yet. She's in for a fun time when she figures it out. Remember how happy she was when she got her Octowatch? Yeah :) 10x that. I also imagine their family is full of late bloomers, but because of Dashi she has pretty low expectations for herself right now.

for some context before the headcanons! These are ones I wrote down a while ago when i was finally first reading the stories and I did these after i finished their main story; so if they aren't super accurate to things up-to-date then thats proobbaabbllyy why, so bear with me! (Though i forever stand by disabled saki)

Random Leo/Need headcanons :

saki ofc got really sick and was in hospitalized for a few years, she was left very physically weak due to this so they gave her crutches to help stabilize herself so she can keep balance when walking and standing. She thought the crutches were too dull, boring, and ugly so before she went back to school she decorated them with stickers, ribbons, paint, and whatever else she could add without making them useless. Occasionally she'd redo all the designs just cuz she wasn't feeling it or didn't fit her aesthetic of the day and she'd just change it whenever she felt like it.

shiho maybe has bpd... it was my first thought when reading but I'm not 100% sure yet, she often pushes people away even the ones she cares for most. At times she can be really rude to them and say hurtful and blunt things, but other times she can be really genuine and kind to those closest to her. She has a habit of lashing out at people, often arguing with saki and honestly anyone who pisses her off in the slightest. This one I'm not sure about cuz it could be something else this is just my first thought

honami has social anxiety !!! She cares about what people think of her to an unhealthy amount, she always assumes the worst in social situations and that everyone will hate her if she makes one mistake, even if she seems to talk to people okay it makes her really anxious unless it's people she's really comfortable with

ichika has miku merch and she hides it under her bed whenever people come over... she pretends to be a casual fan, she is not though, she is drowning in her fixation

shiho likes her hair short cuz it's less to take care of, girl has places to be she can't spend to much time worrying about taking care of her hair

aannndd some sexuality/love headcanons: Ichika - aroace (make demiromantic) I feel like she'd be the type of aroace growing up trying to have a crush and thinking liking someone as a friend is the same as a crush and later thought something was wrong with her cuz she has no desire to kiss or really anything romantic with anyone; but hey who needs bitches when you can listen to hatsune miku Saki - questioning but most likely bi/pan with female preference she missed a lot of the important self discovery years since she was stuck in the hospital so she's figuring it out now and wants to try dating to get the full high school experience Honami - unlabeled or bi/pan with no preference if she loves someone then she loves someone! Never really thought about gender or anything In her people pleaser arc I think she was a bit of a hopeless romantic as well to cope with essentially leaving her best friends so she would use Love as a way to fill that hole (and since they're in an all girls school everyone just thought she was a raging lesbian) Shiho - Lesbian, demi-aroace (probably on the nonbinary spectrum too!) takes a lot for her to fall for someone considering how closed off she is and the fact that she doesn't really like people (I just can't see her with a man)

Not me making the umpteenth post about this very panel, but, bc I have only so much to go by here ;_; this panel has some funny underlying subtext because at the first glance, this seems like a very normal, very formal conversation between two people who are more or less strangers but--

1.] Break knows her name now?

interesting that Break addresses her as Miss Lottie here, and not little miss (flirty (derogatory)) like in the Sablier arc.

so, my guess is that he really did not know her name then, because he simply followed Oz (eye of the cyclone lmao) hoping to find some Baskervilles targeting him as they did in the Lutwidge. In fact, Oz himself wanted to do the same, put himself out there as bait for the Baskervilles before deciding to venture into Sablier.

(Funny how Break shoots down Oz's idea of meeting the Baskervilles with the excuse that they might be following absolute orders and hence, useless to negotiate with. and then..... proceeds to do the same lol)

Also, in the same chapter, Oz lets slip Zwei's name in their conversation which Break silently registers--

all in all, the most names among the Baskervilles he would have known by the time of Sablier arc is Zwei's.

meaning, after returning from his meet-cute meeting with Lottie, he must have set about trying to find out her name. Since they don't have internet in those times, only way to get information is to manually dig around.

but... of course, that is not possible just like that, right? Break cannot ask around a Baskerville's name without raising a bunch of questions, facing trouble from the Pandora (which is why he even hid the Intention's desire from them), ntm, nobody even knew any of the Baskervilles, much less their names.

Well, nobody except Oz. Oz did get to meet the Baskervilles and see and hear them interacting. during which time, Fang and Doug did call out Lottie's name a bunch of times. so obvs Oz should know her name. however, it's up in the air whether he would remember, rather want to remember the name of the girl who stomped all over his chest?

so this means Break really went that extra mile to manipulate this information out of Oz without rousing his suspicions. Oz is too smart for his own good, mind you. The slightest misstep, he is going to figure out what Break was planning:

and from this panel, it appears he didn't want anyone (including Oz and Gil) to know what he had been planning with the Baskervilles. and now even we, the readers, will never know lol

He must have asked Oz to recount his experiences from Lutwidge for him again and got him to slip up her name, the way Oz did for Zwei. Sneaky, so sneaky!

sooooo, while everyone was busy putting together two and two about the Tragedy of Sablier and whatnot, Break here was trying to squeeze out the name of the girl he met in a dungeon someday before he went fully blind (he was fated to see her just once, he can never see her again.) lmaooo what kind of shoujo manga plot was he playing out here?

2.] Lottie expected to meet him again?

This is a little more obvious but funny (to me) nevertheless. when Break puts his sword at her throat, Lottie doesn't even blink or get startled, merely sighs and goes: oh yeah I was wondering why the hell you didn't show up?

But for some reason I felt you'd show your face here.

So, I don't think she means Break making an appearance at Yura's party. That's way too obvious. Rainsworths, and by extension, Break their important valet, are invited and are going to be present here.

No, this means she had a feeling Break would slip out of there and come out here to have a tête-à-tête with her which is just... ??? How was she so sure? Was she looking forward to it? Waiting for him to write her a letter to her hiding place in Sablier or something? Waiting for him to come there just as her lion knocked down Yura? She wasn't in the least fazed! just goes, oh yeah I was waiting for you >_>

Unless he got help from another person which he didn't seem to want, esp. not in this case, which, for whatever reason, he wanted to keep a complete secret. And in spite of this radio silence, Lottie doesn't think he was bluffing or stood her up at Sablier. She actually seems quite prepared to meet him here? I wonder how many times she turned the scenario over and over in her mind since they met and parted, and got more irritated what the hell did he mean and if he did mean something, why can't he contact her again?

because, the very first thing she demands of him is an explanation of what he meant by his words at Sablier

Question, what is you opinion on Cinderpelt? I personally loved her in the books, but I do wish the Erin’s hadn’t butchered her sweet and fun personality

She annoyed me insanely when she was made an apprentice, really set off my anxiety, I cannot handle unruly kids whatsoever I just get angry out of anxiety.

Loved her as a kit and later as an older teen/young adult, really made what she could out of her situation. Loved when she grew in sense of self, the whole sneaking meds to shadowclan made me love her, she was rebellious in a morally justice way— her growing more sassy as she spent time with Yellow, learning that since you're the healer, the common warrior has no power over you if they wanna have a higher survival rate than a loner.

Her calling Tiger a useless lump of fur is respectable, love Tiger seeing value in healers and them being the only ones that can boss him around (at least if they're thunderclan born)

Don't know how she is in the later books cuz I only read the first arc, so I'm sad if you say the ruined her mischievous and kind side

Always saw her as a bit of a nd character, cuz of her strong sense of justice when it comes to who she heals (everyone, fuck your bloodline, you hurt? She heals. End of story)

And her, from how I remember reading it, her hate for authority figure. You cannot tell me she doesn't have HAVE to give up on any task immediately if someone comments on "you're finally doing it" "you should do this" "when are you done with this" "I told you to do that"— cuz I believe with my whole hear if Cinder built herself up to organise the herbs by her own free will and then Yellow came along and commented on how "oh you're finally sorting those" that Cinder wouldn't immediately stop and go "well not anymore"

aot before the fall review in no particular order(mostly cuz im mad)

xavi was introduced in the story as nothing but an antagonist that wanted to kill kuklo and basically saw him as an annoying bug. then when the wallists came and killed most of his family + kuklo left with sharle, he LOATHED him. in total xavi came at kuklo meaning to kill him 3 or 4 times?? THEN ALL THE SUDDEN in one of the last arcs (the training one) xavi suddenly is working together with him?? yeah he said it was for sharle, but it'd be just as easy to whisk her away during the expedition or something. why suddenly did he start caring so much about the future of humanity, the survey corps, and the odm gear?? because his boss liked him? bffr. BOOO. in the final confrontation, youre telling me xavi and kuklo happened to kill a titan together and suddenly xavi likes and approves of him WHEN JUST A MOMENT BEFORE he was determined to kill him???????? THEN X A V I of all people tore down MP corruption? XAVI? CHARACTER ASSASSINATION I TELL YOU. what a fucking disappointment.

NOW IM THINKING ABOUT THE FINAL CHAPTER.

the second half of the final chapter is nothing but an exposition dump in the form of a letter from sharle to a friend. major shit happens (like the major plot point with gloria being murdered) just GLOSSED OVER in a brief explanation. so annoying

goddamn the training arc went on for foreverrrr. SUCH A DRAG!!!!!!! it was like a lot was happening while nothing was happening. after the underground arc, the pacing went from say 80 to -999999. god i was so bored. i glossed these two volumes at parts because i was so bored. it was supposed to be a time to get to know the characters and figure out who was working against the survey corps, and while that twist was very smart, i wasn't happy. i expected this resolution BECAUSE OF COURSE the survey corps never gets dissolved. OF COURSE the odm gear would work. there was absolutely no tension.

for two volumes, i couldnt find myself caring about these new characters (like rosa, kurz, ivo...).

like when felix almost got eaten. like okay? he fell into that same category of cadets that werent fleshed out enough at all and i felt ambivilent when he sacrificed himself for rosa

ROSA. the plot wanted her to be important and interesting sooooo bad. suggesting a love triangle for the main pair, her importance as maria and sorum's daughter, the multiple times it was insisted she was discriminated against for being a woman (despite that NEVER having come up in all of the 50 chapters before that. if this was consistent, i'd feel differently. it's the best conflict that has to do with her character though).

i really didn't care what her motivations were for killing the titans because i didn't care about her. she's just... uninteresting. so broody. and why? because she got bullied by the boys? for several chapters until she became friends with sharle she did nothing but disappear and feel sorry for herself. maybe it's me, but it was just annoying.

yeah maria (her mom) disapproved of her joining the scouts, and it was interesting to see what maria would think after losing her husband to the titans too, but i kind of figured that would work out (and it did - in just one scene).

why the hell was she made a squad leader right off the bat????? her performance was NOT great, i mean failing at the odm tests multiple times, passing out during one of the training runs... it seems like the plot wanted her to be important (due to her parents) so she was made a squad leader.

shallow and boring. my least favorite character.

the lore is BY FAR THE GREATEST PART OF BEFORE THE FALL. it could be partly because aot is my biggest hyperfixation so i was super super interested by default, but the way btf expanded on the lore - the process of the odm invention, where the iceburst stone and ultra hard metal comes from, what the underground is like, etc - was superb and i loved every crumb.

angel is my favorite character. im not going to complain that btf wasnt referenced in canon more because i dont think thats fair to isayama and his editors, as all isayama did was approve what the writer and artists did. angel is a genius who contributed the most to the odm gear. i wanted so badly for him to leave the underground, overcome his guilt over corina and sorum's deaths, and work together with the main characters to advance the survey corps. he suffered so damn much and he overcame it. he's extremely interesting, well-written, and blorbo worthy.

im glad kuklo was also written extremely well since he was the main character. i only wish that he struggled MORE to adjust what life is like outside of a cage being treated as a freakshow act for being known as the son of a titan. it seemed like as soon as he and sharle escaped, he was the conventional shonen boy. which was pretty disappointing. you'd think kuklo would be awkward and unsocialized or distrusting of people for the abuse and isolation he went through, but he was perfectly fine. near the end, he had no more development and it seemed he blended way into the background, but thats not necessarily a complaint. it was rewarding to see him finally become a scout along with cardina.

loveeee cardina. he's just great. i don't have any complaints about him. despite not going in-depth about his past or who he is - i still cared about him, while i CANT say the same about rosa and the cadets introduced much later.

i have so much to say about the uprising arc. it was underwhelming it seriously came WAY out of nowhere. characters were introduced way too fast, appearing in one chapter and in the next one dying. the same can definitely be said of main aot, but the difference is i CARED about what happened to characters like nifa, willy, and pastor nick. the writing for these characters just ISNT there. i didn't care what the dissidents wanted because i never saw them struggle, or find out WHO THEY WERE. they werent fleshed out. i simply didnt care. they failed. boo hoo. mortiz was entertaining, but to me, mostly because it was like a trainwreck i couldnt look away from. his downfall was entertaining and i liked it.

the first arc with kuklo being imprisoned, meeting sharle, and escaping was my favorite next to the underground arc. it was sooo fun to see sharle try to navigate the underground and finding allies. even though her intentions were pretty naive (i guess?) i was rooting for her and cared that she survived.

carlo, his dad pikale - GREAT characters. was always super interesting to learn more about pikale since he's known as this legendary figure who killed a titan first, and as that was expanded upon and we learned that it was actually sorum and angel was super fun. carlo is a great commander and i liked him a lot too.

i thought sharle was annoyingly useless early on, but when she went against xavi after being captured and braving the underground was where her character rly started to grow and that was fun. she went from cowering at the sight of a titan she saw from the wall to resourceful and independent which felt natural. also seeing her become a craftsman and become her own person outside being from nobility.

maybe this is also just me, but the romance in this story WASNT for me. i wish it wasnt shoved in my face so much how much tension there was between kuklo and sharle to get together. like... we knew that was going to happen. also she was the damsel in distress so many times it felt contrived to me. but they were cute at times (especially with the side stories) and their romance was believable.

the problem came in when rosa was introduced and she took a liking to kuklo. MAYBE also just me... but love triangles are so boring and my least favorite romance trope. i didnt care about this subplot whatsoever and had me rolling my eyes at most points. it was nice to see rosa and sharle become friends instead, and having rosa realize she just wanted to BE kuklo instead of wanting to be with him. that was great.

the art? WOW amazing!!!!! its not that the art style compared to isayama was refreshing so much as super fun and creative. my favorite was how more horrifying the titans were portrayed than even in main aot. i have 0 complaints about it. i loved it

before the fall definitely started out extremely strong, dipped down during the uprising arc, and shined again after that UP UNTIL the training arc after kuklo got majorly injured. from there it was a TOTAL fall from grace. the final chapter was rushed, glossed over, and it sucked.

overall... i enjoyed it, but i wouldn't read it again. i can definitely reccomend it to aot fans who are interested in the lore most of all, but if youre a casual fan who wants a story like main aot or even no regrets (which was mainly character centered), you will be incredibly disappointed.

Day 15 - Are there any ships you dislike?

alrighty so. there are only rlly four i ‘dislike’, and the first three… it’s more complicated than anything, it’s not entirely utter pure-n-simple disdain. it’s less about the ships themselves (in two of the cases, anyway) and more about how they seem to be perceived by the fandom + how much they dominate everything. other ships exist, guys! the other characters exist! anyway ill try not to be mean but i am gonna be petty, lol

so for starters, yeah, jack x ianto. i have a very specific view of it, that i do enjoy, but the fandom seems to be doing something else entirely and i've developed some resentment despite myself. especially bc it’s overrated as fuck. don’t get me wrong, it’s iconic, as far as being culturally significant gay rep, but if im honest idk how well they hold up in 2024? i thought their relationship in s1 and s2 of the show was lackluster at best. poorly written bread crumbs. and yeah i know it was big for 2006 but im just personally kind of offended that they could show them sucking face but not show the intricacies of why the hell ianto would fall for a guy who shot his girlfriend down?? like, their relationship is inherently dark and angsty to me and im interested in exploring that, bc the show certainly doesn’t (initially) bother to, and a lot of the fan content i see is either fluffy (??????????), or angsty in a Tragique way, or is just kind of… fetishy and whumpy? people slot them into a Specific Kind of Dynamic and it grosses me tf out. so the fandom culture rubs me wrong, and then it’s just… such a bummer to like owen and tosh and gwen in a fandom that only seems to prioritize this one ship. there are 22k fics in the torchwood ao3 tag, and 13k of them are janto. now, all that being said… they do intrigue me and endear me, just a bit. but it took the audios to make me give a fuck about them, which is sad. 

on that same note - i have the same relationship with tosh x owen, but i'm significantly less fond of it, cuz it just plain rubs me wrong. i like them in theory, so i spent months trying to figure out how to make them work and what other people are seeing that they think is so endearing and cute - i just can't find it. owen's treatment of tosh is just about the only thing i can't stand about him. he treats everyone poorly, but most of the rest of the cast defends themself (or even hit back, like ianto and gwen, and thats why i ship them with him! it’s spicy! i love balanced unhealthy dynamics in fiction hfdsjkf i can’t lie) - but tosh just lets him, creating an unhealthy power imbalance where she’s just getting hurt over and over again, and it makes me wanna fucking punch him cuz she does Not deserve that. i want him far away from her lmao. except under certain circumstances, cuz i have written fic about them, and i’ve read like three rlly good ones (and the main link between them is tosh stands up for herself and puts him in his place! i HATE how he walks all over her in canon ughhhhhhhhh). additionally, i do admittedly enjoy the angst of their canon arc. i just think fandom throwing them together and making it cutesy is lazy, uncreative, and an injustice to both characters. i think the SHOW throwing them together was an injustice to both characters, especially tosh’s. they're tragic and compelling, ill give them that, but theyre not sweet, and i don't think they'd be good for each other. 

(also worth noting on a show where everyone has tension w each other, imo barrowman & gareth and naoko & burn pull it off the least convincingly and have little to no chemistry. like every other duo just kind of sparks in some way or another, and neither of those duos do. which SUCKS bc they’re the canon ones. but it’s also heavily poor writing like they were doing the best w what they had. grr. like i still dont know what the fuck ianto likes about jack or what tosh likes about owen 😭 that’s ridiculous!)

the other ship i’m petty about is jack x john hart. i just think it’s far too popular for what it is. idek why that is, do we have a substantial amount of buffy fans in the fandom? don’t get me wrong, i liked john in the show + i liked their relationship as well, but i'll always be annoyed when a minor character gets more attention than the fascinating main ones. 

and lastly i hate john x ianto, because i respect ianto, lmao. i can’t lie, if he was my fav i’d probs ship it HJFKDSHFK i love putting my favs in awful situations. but as is it just grosses me out. get him outta there!! 

tldr: i don’t interact w the john hart side of the fandom, and if a fic is tagged 'jack/ianto tosh/owen gwen/rhys' i probably won’t read it 😷

I kinda feel bad for Dante imagine ur crush being suddenly taken to a life-threatening reality tv show cuz her older roommate has no concept of responsibility. not only are u already freaking out but also when she does make it back alive he brings an annoying asshole who despite knowning her WAY less than you have still feels entitled to all her attention. It would start my villain arc

oh yeah for sure. to say that there’s some tension between Art and Dante is like saying I like Ezekiel a little bit.

You’ve got Dante the Chronic Overthinker, who’s already internally combusting trying to figure out whether he and Isla are in a situationship or not - they’re not, Isla’s just a very affectionate person and Dante is unsure how to interpret that (and direct communication is just too easy (sarcasm)).

You’ve got Art “Attachment Issues” Yaccarino, who in the span of a couple months At Most has gone from caring about nothing and no one but himself to literally he would die for isla but he’d rather bash his own face in than admit it, having never experienced any kind of affection before and the appearance of Dante, who’s not only better looking, nicer, friendlier and more sociable than him, but also actually Has Hobbies that he Enjoys and Stuff He’s Passionate About - all of it makes Art just a liiiittle bit clingy towards Isla.

And then there’s Isla himself, in the centre of this pseudo-love triangle but not really reciprocating for either them, just wondering rather frustratedly why it’s so hard for her friends to get along.

As much as I want to ignore Shrek the Turd I think it's a lot rewarding to address its flaws than take the easy way out. So here us a list of what I would've changed had I wrote the movie.

Harold's death

- the choice of song is rather out of place

- only serves to push a dramatic moment/shove Artie into the plot

- I actually like Harold :/

How to fix it:

- Harold doesn't die. Instead he gets an old man crisis & Lillian decides to take him on vacation to recuperate; naturally leaving Fiona and Shrek in charge

- Harold does die but the moment is treated with actual respect.

- Harold doesn't die BUT there is a death: Artie's father. The Royal Family go to Camelot for the funeral and meets Uther's estranged son Artie. That way Artie's daddy issues has more purpose in the story bc he truly can't reconcile with his dad, and Shrek a more sympathetic reason to steps up as a father figure.

- Alternatively, Artie's mom dies and he is sent to live in FFW bc his father doesn't want custody. So Shrek AND Fiona has to deal with a teenager and both have fear of parenthood byt still wants to give Artie the best. This also allows Fiona and Artie to interact with each other

Artie

Problem: suffers what I call Chicken Little Syndrome, he's kinda bland and we don't know much about him. Also his bullied nerd background Only serves to make him sympathetic cuz everyone is so mean to him! Beyond being kind and kinda dramatic Artie doesn't have much else

How to fix it:

- Everyone has beef with Artie because of his father's reputation. Perhaps Uther had a bad spending habit which left Camelot in financial ruin or his habit of flirting with women left a lot of illegitimate children now they're all fighting over rightful inheritance and puts down Artie bc he's the youngest/weakest

- Camelot has a very warrior like society but Artie is more diplomatic/soft, which makes him look weak in the eyes of everyone else. Eventually his softness saves Camelot

- Artie has a legitimate flaw (his trust issues) which makes him unable to properly communicate with others.

- Artie has a few true friends who are outcasts like him. But their support drives him to pursue a career in politics so he can help them and ppl like them (giving his speech more credibility)

The Princesses

Problem: most of them were boring at best, unlikable at worst.

How to fix it:

- Give the princesses more likable personalities: say they WERE strong and capable but got so caught up in glamor bc they don't want to remember the painful past

Problem: Charming and Rapunzel

- Comes right out of nowhere

- doesnt make since given Charming's arc is all abput becoming villain why would he date ANOTHER princess?

How to fix it

- Rapunzel's new motivation is she doesn't want an ogre on the throne, or she got tired of the princesses bullying her for her baldness. Or that she's jealous the princesses still have their princes yet Rapunzel lost hers. Or maybe Charming DID save her and she's working with him as a favor.

- However she discovers Charming is not as cool as she thought bc he still treats her (and any princess) like objects and not their own person

- Keep Rapunzel in the princess group and create a new character from scratch

- this new OC is a part of the villains not because she is one herself but because they're the only ones who accepted her for one reason or another. This makes her a foil for Charming and Godmother's relationship. She's wants to help them & save the Poison Apple from closing.

- however Charming is very bad at being evil so she teaches him how to be more assertive and this sets up a romance.

Issue: Arthurian myth

Problem: Aside from being retooled as a school campus, the Arthurian mythos doesn't have much prominence in the story

How to fix it:

-change the main goal to finding Excalibur or the Holy Grail (kiddie Monty Python)

- or have it where Camelot is in a crisis of succession so an election or tournament is held to decide the new king. Noblemen from all over participate (introducing us to the Princesses). Shrek and Fiona helps Artie while Charming joins so he can finally get his own kingdom

- Artie turns out to have magic instead of Merlin (who is just a wacky alchemist/scientist) but he lacks confidence

- At the end have it where Artie forms the knights of the round table (with some of the characters and villains as members)

- Maybe make Charming "Lancelot"

Girl Power Message

Problems: They were sidelined most of the movie, preventing Fiona from truly delving into her responsibilities as Queen. Also most of the girl characters like the Princesses & Guinevere were portrayed as shallow b*tches or not having much relevance

How to fix:

- Make Fiona the focus character this time and her story is juggling queenly duties and her trauma in the tower

- Have the princesses be an underground guerilla force they help her take out Charming during the movie

- or have it where the tower was actually a school to train princesses-to-be and Fiona's Kiss was part of a sceret test of character to see if she really is fit to be Queen; accepting her ogress form means she accepts EVERYONE, so she passed the test

- Fiona demonstrates her leadership skills by planning and carrying out targeted attacks, & taking care of civilians

- MAKE ARTIE A GIRL it makes a cool twist fitting for a franchise like Shrek. Or give Artie a female companion/love interest who accompanies him on his quest (perhaps Guinevere or a new character)

- instead of Merlin they meet Nimue/Lady of the Lake who takes the role of the kooky mentor

- Like I mentioned, explore why Rapunzel betrayed the team; perhaps make her have a change of heart and help her ex friends escape.

- Or like giving Charming a new love interest one who is a caricature of the Evil Sexy Villainess or YA Novel Girlboss Protagonist (have her learn it's okay to be vulnerable)

- have Shrek puss and Donkey be the ones in danger and fiona and her princesses are the ones to go on a journey to save them

Puss and Donkey's subplot

Problem: it doesn't do much to serve the story but for cheap comic relief. Donkey is a father himself but doesn't seem to do much to help Shrek and Artie

How to fix it:

- make Puss absent of stay with the princesses to help them

- Donkey talks with Shrek about his experiences as a father

- Remove the body switch entirely

- or have a subplot where Donkey and Puss still aren't getting along and Merlin switches them so they can learn to see from a new perspective.

- Maybe have Puss admit he doesn't have a good relationship with his own dad or something, or is actually great with kids (stunning Shrek and Donkey)

Shrek's arc

- Issue: we don't delve much into his backstory, he only wants to shirk his royal duties instead of doing the smart thing and actually confronting them

How to fix:

- introduce more Ogres or Shrek's dad. Have it be a family reunion or Shrek's dad finds out he married into royalty and that sets up the overall conflict

- Have the babies born before the movie and the plot is spent with him being a stay at home dad or caring for them while in Camelot while Fiona is tbe working parent

- also sets up an arc where Fiona struggles to balance mother hood and her job

- artie gets more used to ogre (children) leading to a realisation he has to step up to make a better future for their sake (again a more sympathetic reasoning)

The Villains

Issue: Charming is just Farquad 2.0, the rest seem to be props in their own story, Rapunzel

How to fix

- Make a new character who represents the villain side we get an intimate look at how society treats outcasts

- Give the villains more screentime like say we follow a group of them during theur trip to capture Shrek. They eventually have a confrontation and in the fray Artie ends up helping a villain much to their shock. They realise Artie isn't a threat. Or have it set at the play

- give Hook or Doris a prominent role

- or a new major villain; make it Charming's dad who takes him under his wing under the guise of wanting to help his son but is just manipulating him for the throne

- Make Charming struggle how ti adapt to being a villain due to his upbringing

- make some of the villains less open to wanting him in his group or have it where they try to help him be more evil (setting up potential jokes)

- Have Charming and Fiona have an actual moment with Fiona pointing out she did dream of a prince but is happy with Shrek and warns Charming that he still wouldn't be happy even if he did get everything

- Give Charming an actual villain love interest as a foil to Shrek and Fiona

- Don't include Charming at all (marry him off to Doris even lol) and create a new villain inspired by Arthurian lore. Maybe the Black Knight? Mordred? Morgan le Fay?

- Or even Artie himself! he wants to use his new position to enact revenge on his bullies

- Instead of the villains taking over it's the other fairytale heroes led by a jilted Charming and Shrek teams up with the villains to save FFW

- Make Uther the main villain

what i liked and didn't like about the finale

so i watched the finale, and... i have thoughts, so imma share them, cuz that's what tumblr is for

here's what i liked about the two episodes: -the way marinette figured out who monarch was, was in my opinion well done. First she had the heavy hinting that she didn't seem to understand completely because of felix's theater bad trip before the finale. Then she went there and found other hints of him being monarch (the tablets), and right when she pieces it together, she has the final proof she needed, she sees him detransform. It might just be an opinion but i really liked how that was done -bugnoir costume looked pretty cool imo -the whole fight in the mansion was so freaking cool, it was really satisfying to see gabriel get a piano dropped on him. Also the fact that the previous lucky charm turns into the new one instead of making 2 lucky charms is a detail that i like which makes it impossible for her to just spam it and get anything she wants which is good, i was wondering about that when she unlocked the whole growing up thing -plagg and tikki becoming fucking giant like the form we saw in dear family, as well as the reveal of gimmi -the cliffhanger at the end with the lightning in lila's room that i can't for the life of me figure out what they're coming from but it's gonna be epic

alright, here is what i DID NOT like however: -lack of chat noir. he was just gone for two episodes there, he was completely useless which really brings us back to season 4 kind of bs -gabriel got his wish and there was no real consequences because of it, so he was proven right all along, he saved his wife and assistant for the low price of his already fading life -gabriel statue and him being treated like a hero, and marinette lying to adrien about it as well -the ending just felt... empty, i guess? It wasn't the big conclusion of the gabriel arc that i expected -where the hell was the reveal? I'm pretty sure back in season 4 it was said the reveal would be in season 5 and it literally isn't, we only have that last episode left, Action, but i'm pretty sure it's not an actual story relevant episode -the cliffhanger at the end. I know it's also in the things i like about it but i also hate cliffhangers, they cause me pain lmao

But, before I start discussing this chapter, I'd like to say something about what happened in the fandom recently...

If anyone here is unaware, an account by the name of shinybluebirdwizard deactivated their account after being harassed for answering an ask about who they thought Anya loved more... Thinking back on the post, to me it felt like shinybluebirdwizard's answer was more of a joke then anything super serious, but we'll never really know for sure... As of right now, my biggest hope is that Shiny is doing alright and will one day return to the fandom... But, I also completely understand if they decide that they don't want to ever come back either... All I can truly ask for now from this fandom is to be kinder to one another and not be at each other's throats for a difference of opinion...

Anyway, let's get back to the review shall we...?

We start where we basically left of at in Mission 83, with Wheeler cornered by Nightfall and another agent...!

Wheeler tries to convince Nightfall to let him go and that he doesn't have the documents, but of course, it doesn't work and the other agent subdues Wheeler and finds the documents...! Wheeler tries one more time to persuade Nightfall in letting him go, but she knows that he may have the documents memorized, so Wheeler will be imprisoned... But then...:

WHEELER ESCAPES FROM THE OTHER AGENT'S CLUTCHES AND NOW THAT AGENT IS HIS HOSTAGE!! 😱

Wheeler tells Nightfall to drop her gun or he'll break the other agent's neck, then exchange happens between Wheeler and Nightfall:

Damn...! 😲 Does anyone else feel like Wheeler was being a little flirty with Nightfall...? 👀 No? Just me...? Okay... 🤷

Anyway, Wheeler escapes into the sewers and Nightfall goes to pursue him...! Then, um... Nightfall has this thought of if she were to ever die, and well...:

Oh, Nightfall... 😌 No words can describe the amount of crazy you are...! 😏

After... THAT...! We catch back up with Twilight after his brutal fight with Yuri...:

Twilight tries to get out of the sewers, but he overhears some footsteps and decides to be cautious... But then, the footsteps stop, and Twilight is unsure of where they were coming from... When suddenly...

WHEELER APPEARS OUT OF NOWHERE AND ALMOST BASHES TWILIGHT'S HEAD IN WITH A BRICK!!! 😱 (Twilight was able to dodge it, BUT STILL!! 😵)

After Wheeler's initial attack, Twilight tries to convince him that he's with the SSS...

...But it doesn't work...

Then, Wheeler figures out that this must be Twilight in disguise and says this to him:

We cut back to Nightfall as she hears some fighting in the sewers, but when she finds where it's coming from, she sees this: 😰

As Nightfall is shocked and stunned by what she sees, Wheeler proceeds to remove Twilight's mask, when...:

NIGHTFALL GOES COMPLETELY BERSERK!!! 😱

and that's how the chapter ends, and HOO BOY...!! That chapter was INTENSE!! 😰 Especially at the end...!! 😥 And I know that this arc isn't over with just yet, but... I think that this might my new favorite arc of the series...!! 😆

HOW ARE YOU THIS GOOD ENDO!!? 👏😆

The only thing that kind of confused me in this chapter was the part Nightfall was like: "No no no, that's Yuri Briar. He's no friend of mine!" and started saying "That's Yuri Briar" over and over again... I believe that was her starting realize that was Twilight on the ground defeated, but I don't know for sure...! 🤷 In any case, this chapter was still amazing and I'm eagerly awaiting for the next one to drop...!! 😆

Lastly, I'm sorry to anyone that just came here to read my review, but it was very important to me to talk about what happened to shinybluebirdwizard...

I was raised to treat others how I wanted to be treated, so whenever I see how mean people can be sometimes, it truly breaks my heart... We don't have to agree on everything, but we can at least try to be respectful to someone else's opinion... And if that means not interacting with them at all, then by all means, avoid them at all costs... But the one thing that I wish for the most is for everyone to be more kind and understanding of one another...! And then maybe, something like this won't again...

This is also not just a Manga panel redraw, but also kinda an illustration of a Tanjiro C.AI bot made by Shikibaki that I played around with as Zakiko

Side note; this takes place LOOOOONG before the swordsmith village arc, like all the way back in season 1, so that's why Nezuko still has her iconic muzzle. Besides, I just miss seeing her with it as I'm sure everyone else does

Drawing Nezzy's face was really fun, she's so cute

So, Zakiko is out & about at night & spots the Kamado siblings heading back to their abode. They talk for a little bit, Nezzy is all sweet with her, & she eventually offers to go with them until they get back home as a means of protection since Nezuko can't help him out forever & Tanjiro is still very much a rookie as of when this takes place. I like to think that Nezuko grows on Zakiko pretty quickly & sees her as sorta a mom or big sister figure sometime after the hashira meeting. That's mostly due to Urokodaki's hypnosis & the fact she genuinely likes her & thinks she's a good person. Full-demons & half-demons gotta stick together, I guess. So, Mitsuri would be a big sister figure while Zakiko is the mom figure

Anyways, she eventually talks about Michi & Yorii since Tanjiro has no idea who they are, or were, & also no idea (not yet, anyways) that Zakiko is actually a half-demon. So, when she starts getting reminiscent, Tanjiro says how she's a good person for missing them that much & so she's reminded of Yoriichi in that moment. She even sees a vision of Tanj as Yoriichi after that for a second, too

Considering how, back at the meeting, their first interaction was a bit rough (Her gripping onto his hair while Obanai keeps him pinned down), this vision & his words & just overall love they, mostly Nezuko, have for her, her usual scary & intimidating demeanor does a complete 180 to soft & kind. That's when she just ruffles his hair as a way of showing her thanks

Bet you never seen Zakiko this gentle before, have ya? It just proves she IS capable of acting like it to anyone other than Kokushibo

hi buttons whats the 17776 rp and tma rp crossover animatic. just a casual question im asking unprompted

cracks my knuckles. well you asked

heads up: 1) this will get long 2) i'm summarising a lot here so even though it's a lot i can't exactly describe all the nuances 3) trigger warnings will show up when relevant

phil is mimi's (@/thatsmimi) character from DSCP, which is an rp based off of jon bois' 17776 story/series. in short, it's set in a world where everyone became immortal for no reason on april 7, 2026 (an event called the moment), and also space probes have managed to gain sentience over time and are people now. the DSCP stands for deep space communication program and is a NASA program (made up for the rp) that basically acts as a big group chat for lots of probes.

phil is the head researcher of the DSCP (NASA staff is practically non-existent at this point, really). he's usually pretty uptight but also snarky - or even asshole-ish, but that's more of a defense mechanism he's eased up on over time. he has a whole arc with nancy (a sentient probe), where he was the first person who talked and bonded with her as she processes being a person, and - actually this is too hard to summarise but he leaves the DSCP at some point due to Conflict and Turmoil but he comes back. they have a very strong bond and she helped him see that he's not just some asshole but really, deep down, a good person.

sicily is mim's (@/coatcandy) character from a TMA rp (or TMARP)! i, uh, am not in this rp and do not know much stuff about TMA. but she's like, 19, an archive assistant (US not british) and got sent off to a very harrowing mission by an archivist AKA her dad to a 19th century ship thats perpetually stuck in the arctic that has several avatars on it. but she actually makes friends/bonds with the whole avatar'd crew and they find a way off.

(tw: mentions of child abuse, murder and death in the next paragraph)

and also she kills her piece of shit abusive adoptive father who only her took her in after her mother was murdered (an event that caused her to become slaughter-aligned) to train her up for Archive Things. yknow, when you're nay but a teenager and a bubbly kindhearted girl who deeply struggles with her humanity <3 (harold deserved it tho)

and then she becomes the assistant to a different archivist, isidore and they're actually friends etc.

and these two RPs are within their respective RP canons not connected at all. but! mim wrote a series of crossover fics that are basically just phone calls between phil and sicily that purely occur by accident due to multiversal avatar-y bullshit and they share anecdotes/some #struggles with each other cuz both of them got something fucked up going on with their universes (phil - everyone's immortal and no one can die, sicily - your regular TMA fare)

in brief: phil gets transported to sicily's universe due to more avatar-y bullshit and they have to figure out how to get him back to his home universe, which involves going to the apartment he used to live in. but, yknow, in this universe. alternate selves and such. (phil from his original universe doesn't live there anymore - DSCP takes place in 20022 currently and TMARP is essentially present day). #shenanigans and #deep conversations ensue.

when they get to the apartment it's like... all fucked up by avatar bullshit, and they find that phil in this universe is actually now a ghost who's being trapped in the apartment due to lonely avatar stuff (he didn't become an avatar he's um. dead) phil manages to make it back, but uh, yknow. he struggled with depression and suicidal ideation before the moment (still does sometimes, some ways, that kind of stuff is tied up with his self-perception issues). in his own universe he never made that choice (and then the moment happened so he's been living for thousands of years in world where no one can die), so seeing a timeline in which he did... yeah. i'm not elaborating on it here but it hits in a way.

this isn't in the fic, but there's also a parallel in these crossover universes - in the way that phil didn't survive in sicily's universe, sicily also didn't survive in phil's universe, because the avatars don't exist there, she didn't become slaughter-aligned when her mum was murdered, so she didn't survive that attack either. and she was 14. so there's this... thing we've got here, with two people who meet and connect, and their lives crossover, and the connection is over. and that person is dead in your own universe, and you couldn't have met that person anyway because they'd be a different person, but still you have to mourn them because you've had that connection and.

[edit: one thing i forgot to mention was that knowing that other universes where the fears and avatars and all that dont exist also hits sicily pretty hard in ways. because she doesnt know who she'd be without all that. and phil reassures her of course. you're a kid it'll get better. but then. she actually is dead in his universe. so. </3 cant figure out how to articulate what this story is really exploring but its a lot! i recommend mimi's directors commentary in the video 👍]

look obviously i could never explain in a single post what all the emotions and narratives and relationships mean here. that's wrapped up in phil and sicily's own stories, which ultimately belong to no one else but the people who told those stories, and the people who got to experience those stories. and i'm gonna get sappy here - yes, it's just something really special to an incredibly selective group of people, but really that's the point. the point isn't to create some grand narrative you get acclaim and praise for, it's just to create a story, just for you and your friends, to connect through that work of creation.

and mim (along with everyone else who co-created these rp universes which led to this crossover) really created something so emotionally engaging that even if other people's wouldn't fully get the entire story at play, because the story wasn't ever made to be understood by more than a few people - even then, i can't help but want to share it. because i love it! it's incredible. something about me is i will always want to share the things i love no matter how incomprehensible.

and of course, i'm a motherfucker who loves talking and explaining shit that doesn't need to be explained.

if you've made it this far (or just scrolled straight to the end really), well, you don't have to watch it, but i can't recommend it enough, and yes its because i'm in a obvious position of bias, but even if you understand nothing about the story it's just genuinely. a really really good animatic. i love mimi's art and this animatic is just incredibly well drawn, in terms of character, boarding, pacing, emotions, storytelling, connection to the song's lyrics-- [i pass out from running out of breath]
