aot before the fall review in no particular order(mostly cuz im mad)

SPOILERS

xavi was introduced in the story as nothing but an antagonist that wanted to kill kuklo and basically saw him as an annoying bug. then when the wallists came and killed most of his family + kuklo left with sharle, he LOATHED him. in total xavi came at kuklo meaning to kill him 3 or 4 times?? THEN ALL THE SUDDEN in one of the last arcs (the training one) xavi suddenly is working together with him?? yeah he said it was for sharle, but it'd be just as easy to whisk her away during the expedition or something. why suddenly did he start caring so much about the future of humanity, the survey corps, and the odm gear?? because his boss liked him? bffr. BOOO. in the final confrontation, youre telling me xavi and kuklo happened to kill a titan together and suddenly xavi likes and approves of him WHEN JUST A MOMENT BEFORE he was determined to kill him???????? THEN X A V I of all people tore down MP corruption? XAVI? CHARACTER ASSASSINATION I TELL YOU. what a fucking disappointment.

NOW IM THINKING ABOUT THE FINAL CHAPTER.

the second half of the final chapter is nothing but an exposition dump in the form of a letter from sharle to a friend. major shit happens (like the major plot point with gloria being murdered) just GLOSSED OVER in a brief explanation. so annoying

goddamn the training arc went on for foreverrrr. SUCH A DRAG!!!!!!! it was like a lot was happening while nothing was happening. after the underground arc, the pacing went from say 80 to -999999. god i was so bored. i glossed these two volumes at parts because i was so bored. it was supposed to be a time to get to know the characters and figure out who was working against the survey corps, and while that twist was very smart, i wasn't happy. i expected this resolution BECAUSE OF COURSE the survey corps never gets dissolved. OF COURSE the odm gear would work. there was absolutely no tension.

for two volumes, i couldnt find myself caring about these new characters (like rosa, kurz, ivo...).

like when felix almost got eaten. like okay? he fell into that same category of cadets that werent fleshed out enough at all and i felt ambivilent when he sacrificed himself for rosa

ROSA. the plot wanted her to be important and interesting sooooo bad. suggesting a love triangle for the main pair, her importance as maria and sorum's daughter, the multiple times it was insisted she was discriminated against for being a woman (despite that NEVER having come up in all of the 50 chapters before that. if this was consistent, i'd feel differently. it's the best conflict that has to do with her character though).

i really didn't care what her motivations were for killing the titans because i didn't care about her. she's just... uninteresting. so broody. and why? because she got bullied by the boys? for several chapters until she became friends with sharle she did nothing but disappear and feel sorry for herself. maybe it's me, but it was just annoying.

yeah maria (her mom) disapproved of her joining the scouts, and it was interesting to see what maria would think after losing her husband to the titans too, but i kind of figured that would work out (and it did - in just one scene).

why the hell was she made a squad leader right off the bat????? her performance was NOT great, i mean failing at the odm tests multiple times, passing out during one of the training runs... it seems like the plot wanted her to be important (due to her parents) so she was made a squad leader.

shallow and boring. my least favorite character.

the lore is BY FAR THE GREATEST PART OF BEFORE THE FALL. it could be partly because aot is my biggest hyperfixation so i was super super interested by default, but the way btf expanded on the lore - the process of the odm invention, where the iceburst stone and ultra hard metal comes from, what the underground is like, etc - was superb and i loved every crumb.

angel is my favorite character. im not going to complain that btf wasnt referenced in canon more because i dont think thats fair to isayama and his editors, as all isayama did was approve what the writer and artists did. angel is a genius who contributed the most to the odm gear. i wanted so badly for him to leave the underground, overcome his guilt over corina and sorum's deaths, and work together with the main characters to advance the survey corps. he suffered so damn much and he overcame it. he's extremely interesting, well-written, and blorbo worthy.

im glad kuklo was also written extremely well since he was the main character. i only wish that he struggled MORE to adjust what life is like outside of a cage being treated as a freakshow act for being known as the son of a titan. it seemed like as soon as he and sharle escaped, he was the conventional shonen boy. which was pretty disappointing. you'd think kuklo would be awkward and unsocialized or distrusting of people for the abuse and isolation he went through, but he was perfectly fine. near the end, he had no more development and it seemed he blended way into the background, but thats not necessarily a complaint. it was rewarding to see him finally become a scout along with cardina.

loveeee cardina. he's just great. i don't have any complaints about him. despite not going in-depth about his past or who he is - i still cared about him, while i CANT say the same about rosa and the cadets introduced much later.

i have so much to say about the uprising arc. it was underwhelming it seriously came WAY out of nowhere. characters were introduced way too fast, appearing in one chapter and in the next one dying. the same can definitely be said of main aot, but the difference is i CARED about what happened to characters like nifa, willy, and pastor nick. the writing for these characters just ISNT there. i didn't care what the dissidents wanted because i never saw them struggle, or find out WHO THEY WERE. they werent fleshed out. i simply didnt care. they failed. boo hoo. mortiz was entertaining, but to me, mostly because it was like a trainwreck i couldnt look away from. his downfall was entertaining and i liked it.

the first arc with kuklo being imprisoned, meeting sharle, and escaping was my favorite next to the underground arc. it was sooo fun to see sharle try to navigate the underground and finding allies. even though her intentions were pretty naive (i guess?) i was rooting for her and cared that she survived.

carlo, his dad pikale - GREAT characters. was always super interesting to learn more about pikale since he's known as this legendary figure who killed a titan first, and as that was expanded upon and we learned that it was actually sorum and angel was super fun. carlo is a great commander and i liked him a lot too.

i thought sharle was annoyingly useless early on, but when she went against xavi after being captured and braving the underground was where her character rly started to grow and that was fun. she went from cowering at the sight of a titan she saw from the wall to resourceful and independent which felt natural. also seeing her become a craftsman and become her own person outside being from nobility.

maybe this is also just me, but the romance in this story WASNT for me. i wish it wasnt shoved in my face so much how much tension there was between kuklo and sharle to get together. like... we knew that was going to happen. also she was the damsel in distress so many times it felt contrived to me. but they were cute at times (especially with the side stories) and their romance was believable.

the problem came in when rosa was introduced and she took a liking to kuklo. MAYBE also just me... but love triangles are so boring and my least favorite romance trope. i didnt care about this subplot whatsoever and had me rolling my eyes at most points. it was nice to see rosa and sharle become friends instead, and having rosa realize she just wanted to BE kuklo instead of wanting to be with him. that was great.

the art? WOW amazing!!!!! its not that the art style compared to isayama was refreshing so much as super fun and creative. my favorite was how more horrifying the titans were portrayed than even in main aot. i have 0 complaints about it. i loved it

before the fall definitely started out extremely strong, dipped down during the uprising arc, and shined again after that UP UNTIL the training arc after kuklo got majorly injured. from there it was a TOTAL fall from grace. the final chapter was rushed, glossed over, and it sucked.

overall... i enjoyed it, but i wouldn't read it again. i can definitely reccomend it to aot fans who are interested in the lore most of all, but if youre a casual fan who wants a story like main aot or even no regrets (which was mainly character centered), you will be incredibly disappointed.

Ugh. I still have Covid. I feel so so tired and I’m still sniffly. But I’m happy I’m not as sick as I was. and that my case isn’t a really bad one. It’s snowing out and it looks so pretty but I can’t even go play in it... at first he'd be flustered by your crush on him, honestly. it would take a lot for him to admit to himself that yes, you liked him. i dont peg him as the type to tease you over it unless you guys were already close with one another, but if that was the case, he'd probably be a little more direct about it than the rest of the guys. he might straight up bring up your crush on him while you were joking around with each other. he's an empathetic guy, so he wouldn't go too crazy with his teasing, but he'd still tip toe on that line, not realizing he was making you too flustered. he couldn't help himself, though, he was just too over confident around you now that he knew you liked him.

if you began to distance yourself from him or just straight up avoid him over his teasing, he'd beat himself over it so much. he'd think himself an idiot for letting his cockiness get the best of him. he'd instantly miss your presence in his life, but he would feel too embarrassed over his oversights when it came to your feelings. this separation would probably be what would lead him to realize his own crush on you. he wouldn't know how to approach you again, but would muster up all his courage to apologize to you, rambling about how badly he felt and even accidentally confessing his own feelings for you in the process.

ok unpopular opinion maybe but i feel like if he was aware of someone's crush on him, he'd get a lil cocky about it. he has sooo many friends and is sooo popular everywhere he went due to his extroverted personality, but he'd rarely ever catch onto people crushing on him. so when he realized you liked him, he would tease you about it a bit. if you ever agreed with him in a group argument about something as trivial as to where to eat, he'd straight up say something like 'its cause you like me, isnt it?' and giggle at your reaction. he'd do lighthearted stuff like this, enjoying the red on your ears and the way you'd whine and complain at him.

if you ever grew annoyed of his teasing and stayed away from him in order to avoid it, he'd begin seeking you out, pouting that you'd just leave him hanging like that. how can you just leave him like that? what about him? what if he liked you back and just wanted your attention? did you ever think about that? he'd end up just scolding you instead of comforting you or apologizing, annoyed that you'd just deprive him of the attention he'd grown so used to.

it was an important day for the Williamson family but more important to both yours and Leah's two young kids.

you and Leah had been married almost 4 years now and you both had two young children Nova who had just turned 2 and Miles who was 4.

tonight it was just you and the kids as Leah is out of town but that won't stop the kids from seeing their mommy this is because tonight Leah was going to be reading a bedtime story on CBeebies, and the kids had no idea that it was happening and they love CBeebies it was part of there night routine before bedtime.

you had got the kids bathed and into their pyjamas, they were settled and watching in the night garden whilst you cleaned the kitchen and got yourself some food, as you finished washing the dishes, your phone started to ring. you grabbed your phone and answered.

"Hello," you answered.

"hi babe," Leah said.

"hey how are you," you said.

"I'm good how are you and the babies," she said.

"yeah im good all finished up for the night the kids are watching TV waiting to be surprised by there mummy" you said.

"i know can you record there reactions please" she said.

"that was my plan i think im more excited than they will be" you said walking to sit on the couch.

"i'll let you go and get the kids to bed call me once its finished" she said.

"yeh okay ill call you in a minute" you said your goodbyes for the time being just in time for bedtime stories.

you pulled my phome out and leant it against a lamp so you were able to see the kids.

they were sat in there own little seats in front of the TV and leah came on and Miles gasped and Nova squealed.

"mama its mummy" Miles shouted.

after a moment of excitement both kids sat there listening to everyone word that leah was saying in complete aww, with Nova still saying over again mama, looking back at you over and over again.

once it finished you had stopped the video and Nova started too cry and came over you picked her up and cuddled her as she cried for her mummy.

"hey do you want to face time her" you asked Nova and she nodded and miles came over sad that it was over.

you grabbed your phone and face timed Leah she answered and the smile on her face faded when she noticed Nova crying.

"whats the matter baby" she said.

"miss you mummy" she said her tears stopping.

"oh baby im sorry did you like your story" she asked and they both nodded.

"that was the best surprise mummy i am going to watch it every night" Miles said dramatically.

"i wouldnt expect anything else baby im glad you like it ill be home soon and ill read you it okay" she said and they both nodded Nova rubbing her eyes and leaning her head on your shoulder.

"you tired baby" you said and she nodded.

"you go to bed babies ill be home when you wake up" Leah said an they nodded.

"goodnight babies" Leah said, both the kids said there goodnight and hung up.

you put your phone on the side of the couch and took Nova into your arms and held Miles hand taking them to bed. miles went running into his room being able to get ready for bed himself.

you walked into Novas bedroom and but her in her cott and put covers over her and gave her a kiss.

"goodnight baby" you said and she got comfy and closed her eyes.

you walked out and shut her door and went to Miles room were he was in his bed under his covers cuddling his blacket and his monkey he had the day he was born.

you tucked him in and gave him a kiss and walked out after saying goodnight. That night you sent the video to Leah of the kids and you both posted the video of the kid's reaction it is my favourite video of the kids

the following days and weeks and even months every night after CBebbies ended the kids watched Leah reading them the same bedtime story just as Miles said to Leah.

about two weeks later, you found yourself in the kitchen cooking a somewhat complicated dinner for you and your lover. these past few days vi had been working extra hours at the department after some of silco’s old goons started causing trouble in the undercity. which was horrible because of the harm they were causing to innocent people, of course, but also because your poor girlfriend came home at such late hours in the night looking exhausted. you insisted she take some more days off or work less hours, but vi was nothing if not hardheaded.

so, knowing she wouldnt back down on working hard, it was only right you did this nice thing for her. hell, you even went down to jerichos' to ask him for the recipes for vi's favorite dishes.

a while into cooking, you hear the familiar sounds of the front door closing and the atlas gauntlets falling in place on the floor. the sound of vi’s heavy footsteps move towards you until you feel her strong arms wrap around your stomach, her face resting on your shoulder. you briefly move a hand to brush through her hair, making her hum. “rough day again?”

she groans loudly, smiling when you laugh at her. “when is it not a rough day at this point? i swear it's like every damn hour I have to deal with some stuck-up piltie who thinks im too stupid to help or an asshole zaunite who thinks im just a traitor or a liar,” she sighs. as she talks, you continue cooking the dinner while listening to her rant about her day. “and then I nearly got in trouble for telling some asshole at the precinct off! he's lucky I didn't kick his ass. but whatever, it's over now. i'm just glad to be here with you, sweetheart.”

you stopped stirring. “sweetheart?”

vi paused then laughed behind you, gripping onto you tighter. “well-yeah, you said I wasn't creative enough, so i'm trying stuff out. what do you think?”

you turn from the dinner to face her, wrapping your arms around her shoulders and looking into your girlfriend's pretty blue eyes as she looks at you oh so lovingly. “i think it's cute. i love it. use it more.”

“im glad you like it, sweets” she smiles, laughing at your demand and then moving to kiss your cheeks and your lips before turning you back to the stove. “so, whats for dinner?”

strike two

you and vi were walking around the market in piltover, looking for some new clothes and furniture for your home. it was a warm sunny day, and sometimes you caught vi stopping and basking in the sunlight. growing up in the lanes, day and night were almost interchangeable thanks to the altitude, but now that she spent most of her time outside and not in a cell, the pink haired girl blossomed. the cutest part was how her freckles had grown in numbers and darkened in color.

after walking, observing, and buying things for a few hours, vi tugs your arm to sit on a stool at a pop-up cafe, waiting for one of the workers behind the counter to become available to you. you're just glad to be off of your aching feet for a moment, finding comfort in vi holding your hands in hers.

" 'm sorry we've been walking for so long. theres just so much i want to get here." vi apologizes, bringing your hands up to her mouth to press kisses on to them.

you beam at her soft words and actions. "its fine, shortcake. i know you didnt get to buy much when you and pow were younger. our walls n shelves are a bit bare, so get whatever knick-knacks you want."

vi's scarred lips turn up into an appreciative smile before she cups your cheeks and presses kisses onto them, smiling even harder at your giggles. she was such a pda lover, but what could she say? you were a catch, and she loved to show you off.

"hi! can i get you two anything?" a cheery voice pips up from your right, making your love pull away from you to face the barista.

"hello. i'll just take a coffee, but my lil pumpernickel here will take a (f/d) and a (f/s), thank you."

vi, like the little shit she is, casually turns her head back to you after placing your order. as your expression grows more and more confused she struggle to contain her amusement.

"p...pumpernickel? are you serious? what does that...thats just bread!"

"yeah but it sounds cute, right?"

the way you fell for this girls charms were unreal. itd scare you if it didnt pay off in the best ways.

before this youd both been out with friends, enjoying yourselves in a booth at the last drop. the night was filled with stories from your younger days, friendly teasing, and laughter. but as the hours ticked on and the drinks kept coming, you noticed that vi became more flirtatious and teasing, whispering in your ear and raising her hand slowly up your thigh.

all of that led you to now, pressed againt the door of your apartment with a very eager vi pressing into your front while pressing wet kisses on your neck.

"mmhh..v-vi, baby, lets move this to the bedroom, yeah?" you whimper, dually pressing your hands on her shoulders to push her off and pull her in closer.

she hums, squeezing her arms tight against your waist. "hmm, i dont know, hun. i think we should stay riiight here. we wanted to christen every part of the house, remember?"

"god, youre a pervert." you groan, partly in due to playful annoyance and partly because she literally bit you on the most sensitive part of your neck. when you turn your head to reprimand her she captures your lips in a heated kiss.

her kiss is all consuming, causing your legs to feel weak and your brain dizzy. shes taking all of you, and youd gladly give her anything and everything.

she pulls away, her eyes still closed as she pants to catch her breath. "fuck, you taste so damn good, muffin."

you involuntarily let out a small moan, causing both of your eyes to widen.

after a few seconds, vi starts to smirk.

"so, its muffin, huh?"

"oh my god, shut up." you groan, going to lean your head on the door before you feel her rough hand grip your chin to look at her.

"nuh uh, im gonna have a lot of fun with this. god, i shouldve tried calling you this weeks ago if i knew itd make you sound like that."

you sigh, feeling slightly embarassed but admittedly more turned on. you hated it and loved it at the same time. "are we gonna do something orr are you just gonna tease me all night, you jerk?"

the brawler laughs to herself, quickly moving her arms below your ass and on your thighs so you can wrap your legs around her waist.

"dont worry, muffin, i plan on eating every bit of you tonight."

“the 3d HAS to reflect the 4d just understand you have it in your 4d no matter what.” um there is no separation between the 3d and 4d when you are already 1 being (consciousness). theres no need to live in a separate entity known as imagination when its the same as the “3d” anyways. the concepts of “imagination” “physical world” or “3d” are just false forms of consciousness youve made up and personified it as real. they are not. only you are.

“the more you repeat your affirmations the more likely they will come” theres nothing to “do” or say that will bring me my desires since i am everything i already am my desires. the idea of “doing” anything to “get something” outside of me doesnt make sense when its all in me. affirmations can be used to “bring things to your awareness” but understand the affirmations themselves are STILL not bringing you anyway. just making you aware of things.

Oh man I saw your totk issues post and I agree 100%!! Those are all things that have really bothered me about playing totk, and things that made playing it not nearly as fun (the dungeons, the shrines, the building, etc).

Especially the map!! When I tell you I was so disappointed by the maps on totk, I was hoping for something new! It really just feels like a modded botw, not an official sequel.

I was wondering what your thoughts are on the concept of “what if they had sent link to the past instead”? So the surface map would feature huge differences in the land forms and buildings that exist, and we’d get to see more ganon whenever he visits Hyrule, or go out to the desert to see Gerudo town, etc.

If they really wanted no sheika tech, they could also just have it being newly built? And you could introduce the new characters and such, etc etc.

(I also think the past champions are such a missed opportunity? If botw is about grief and loneliness, and finding hope in the hopeless, and Totk is about coming together despite that, it could have been really interesting if Link had gone to the past! They could have used the past setting as an eerie reminder to what Link and Zelda had lost when the Calamity struck!)

THAT BEING SAID: I’m not as familiar with the legend of Zelda lore, and haven’t played totk very much! I wanted to know your thoughts on this because you seem to have a lot of story and game mechanic knowledge that could explain why this could be a bad/good idea!

im glad you enjoy my rants, i often feel like im being overly mean but tbh were else could i just rant as much as my heart desires without getting spammed by annoying people (certainly not on twitter lol)

i have talked alot, and i mean ALOT, about totk and my issues with it, both lore and gameplay wise, i dont claim to be an expert on any, though i am an old zelda fan and aspiring gamedev, i really only talk about what i feel about it, what i think about it, and by all means im biased as hell xD

and to answers your question, i have touched on it briefly, sending link back in time before the shiekah tech existed would have been an easy way to excuse how they jsut got .. rid of it, bc they didnt, it literally didnt exist yet- and for reusing the map- though that argument falls a little flat bc ... they coud have already done that in present totk, like i brought up in one of said rants, things like flooding gerudo desert, collapsing death mountain, drying out zoras domain etc, and changing the location of the main populations would have already done alot without having to redo the map in its entirety;

the little changes to map itself really wouldnt that big of a deal if they didnt also send you to the EXACT same locations AND repeat the SAME LOCATIONS AGAIN but in the underground, like thats a fact i have talked about multiple times bc its so illogical in every way, anywhere theres a settlement on the surface theres a bigger mine below, its so stupid, the shrines conenct to a lightroot, the same, again, you dont need to explore bc theres nothing TO explore (its also extra weird bc theres one below taburasa (tarrey town) which .... link literally build with dumsda (hudson) a few years ago .. unless that got retconned too idk wth do i know anymore honestly- AND it makes the sonau extra weird bc why the hell do they have a bigass mine under every settlement ESPECIALLY UNDER GERUDO TOWN like, that just adds to my suspicions towards them)

anyway, link to the past was the point and yes, it could have solved a few issues (mainly shiekah tech and the whole "story" taking place AGAIN in the past completely disconnected from you the player) i personally am not so much a fan of it, but that mostly comes down to me just not liking time travel, i dont like going back in time, i want to play and do things in the here and now, i want to repair the damages of the calamity, find out its origins, maybe fix that too, i love to learn about past stuff too, but that more in text, no literal flashback (unless done well), i want to connect to the past but it also holds alot of mystery that maybe shouldnt be touched upon, some mysteries and unkowns are much more interesting when left as such, i want to THINK about things and come to conclusions that are logical and makes sense in hindsight even if it wasnt clear at the start, i dont want information and what to think about it told to my face over and over like im stupid

after botw i really didnt care much about the past, maybe about the acient hero who alot of people specualted to be of gerudo origin due to its red hair- which also got a monkeys paw curled bc in totk they do sth with but its so stupid and insulting that i do not accept it as canon, say what they want, there are no dog people anywhere in the past nor present botw/totk wtf is that i hate it- and its not even .. why is that the reward for that, it has literally NOTHING TO DO WITH TOTK ITSELF I COULD YELLLL AAAARGH

main point is that really, i wanted to explore the past .. in the present, i hoped to find broken old shiekah structures, old labs and maybe some left over damage and records from when the old king persecuted the shiekah for their tech, i wanted to know where the ancient energy the shiekah used was coming from, what the boss arena in the middle of hyrule castle really was- so many things just discarded and acted like they never happened or mattered; i dont want to travel into the past, i want to discover whats left of it, piece it together, discover dark secrets you can ask no one about bc all that knew about it are long gone- thats what intrigued me about botw, it felt like there was so much left to discover only for totk to throw it all away and just do its own thing .. but not commit to that hard enough either so its neither its own thing nor a sequel-

Just read the art of seduction and gotta say it was sooo much fun!!! Really loved the way you wrote bully/mean!reader and nerdy/kook!! It's always a nice experience to see the roles reversed in stories like that. All the nuances in mcs personality were good too, nice to see her vulnerable side that early cause like yeah it's lots of fun too read mean!readers (really, I love that trope) but seeing the side that's usually not shown that early is so great cause we can sympathize even more with her. And the fact that kook seemed so genuinely scared of her?? God have mercy on me! Fantastic! AHHHH OMG thank you so much for saying all of this!!! you got me excited thinking about my fic again, i had a blast brainstorming it and have the whole plot planned out already but i just haven’t really written at all recently :(( which makes me sad bc writing is my favorite thing to do but life and lack of motivation gets in the way i suppose.

but this fic was one i was really really excited about bc i LOVE role reversal fics like that and im so glad you do too and that you can appreciate the character development i put in by showing the different sides to oc’s personality with a little bit of insight on who she is and why she is the way she is rather than just having a flat bully character! i feel like establishing that early on is super important if they’re going to get together eventually, which obviously they do bc this is a jk x reader fic lol. but yes you’re right, there needs to be so much deconstruction and rebuilding of their relationship to even get to that point! with their ‘seduction’ lessons tho, there’s also going to be some sexual tension that flourishes between them and confuses both of them 🤭 as well as eventual jealousy of course on the oc’s part when jk continues to pursue irene, bc that’s obviously what these lessons are about so why WOULDNT he do that? and there’s conflicting feelings on jk’s side too and it just becomes one big mess ksjdsj i would love to continue writing this series!! maybe the inspo will strike again 🥹

i think its so funny when youre on the wrong side of the pjsk fandom before you get into it because you will see people talking about rui like hes trying to kill tsukasa and is literally making saw traps just to put that guy in them like a lab rat and is just absolutely evil and manipulative and then you actually read the stories and rui is just such a kind and caring guy that when tsukasa did get hurt by his machines [ON ACCIDENT] he straight up went welp. guess im never doing anything dangerous ever again and im a failure as a director and only got over it when tsukasa started screaming at him that he likes his crazy ideas and if he didnt want to do them he simply wouldnt. or when rui got hurt when tsukasa couldnt test the thing out and his thought was just "well im glad it wasnt tsukasa that got hurt :] it would really mess up the show if our star✩ was the injured one"

or you will see people talking about ena like shes the worst person ever and is just mean to everyone for fun and hates everyone with her whole being. and again. you read the stories and shes just a girl that struggles with her emotions. shes trying her best but she just never learned how to control her emotions and how to deal with them because she lives in a home where everyone feels somewhat hostile towards her, especially her father who she feels only wants to aggravate her on purpose because he never clearly communicates with her. you can see she is very kind and caring as well, especially visible with how she treats mizuki and their secret. yes shes mean at first but shes clearly trying to work on her issues and do better. her relationship with akito is very complicated but she clearly cares about him too, which is shown in the childhood flashback where she tells him that he should find something to do that he loves and stick to it, she encouraged him to not give up so easily on something if it feels right and he lives by those words to this day.

and akito is portrayed as an asshole, especially to ena, but he also clearly cares about her. hes not good at stating it but he clearly shows it with my favourite example being when ena was having something of a breakdown and was trashing her art supplies. akito walked in, agitated at the noise but as soon as he saw what she was doing he was clearly worried. he didnt want her giving up on her passion, just like ena didnt want him to give up on his. of course, ena in the emotional state she was in didnt listen, but akito knows her. his "you will regret this" mightve been taken as mean and something he said just to be annoying but it wasnt. he said that because he knows his sister and how much she wants to create, and she would definetly regret getting rid of all that stuff. he tried his best to calm her down in some way, to talk to her, to give her some time to think about this and if this is really something she wants to do or if her emotions are getting the best of her again.

i think about that moment at least 5 times a day because its such a nothing scene but it actually shows so much to me, as someone who was both ena and akito in similar situations. sorry i care a lot about the shinonome siblings they mean the world to me

tldr: rui isnt a manipulative ass he just has a hobby, ena isnt a bitch she just doesnt know how to deal with emotions properly and has trouble understanding how others feel, and akito isnt a shitling of a brother he actually tries his best

what do you like about rotmhs? like what draws you in?

GAHH IM SO GLAD YOU ASKEDDD at the top of my head thhe top three things i felt really drew me into and made me fall in love w rotmhs is the found family/bonds before blood narrative, the action/fight scenes, and the comedy..

rotmhs is not a romance and i feel like that really pushes people away from reading it, especially folks who were first introduced to east asian novels through bl (specifically mxtxs novels like mdzs tgcf etc etc) which i feel is incredibly disappointing because yallre missing out on a certain depth of writing and nuance you otherwise wouldnt get in a romance focused novel. (orv is another extremely popular knovel with no romance.. if you like orv PLEASE give rotmhs a shot)

rotmhs is about a dead man resurrected a hundred years into the future having to come to terms w the fact that everyone he loved is dead and that the only home he ever had was destroyed, its inhabitants and centuries worth of teachings burned to the ground, and that it was partially his fault these things happened, so in order to prevent a future catastrophe he knows is on the horizon, he trains the youth of this new generation and finds a new home surrounded by ghosts in the wreckage of his home of his past

⬆️…very dramatic but somewhat accurate barebones synopsis of rotmhs which is fairly faithful enough methinks.. rotmhs doesnt make a point of going ‘heyy these guys are family nowww theyre brothers and sisters and love each other like familyyy’ LOL the growth is very subtle and before u can really blink ur like ‘oh man.. chung myung would kill for these kids. obliviously though. i dont think he knows he even likes them’ all the while hes still aching w the loss of his loved ones before.. if we’re being really really honest chung myung, the mc, truly is the star of the show and a character i got attached to incredibly quickly.. hes so stupid but so smart he has so many issues i want to hit him with my car then nurse him back to health just to hit him again

chung myung himself is a whole other thing i could get into but he has so many layers.. so much depth.. on the surface ud look at him and think what a punk but look a little closer and then ud think oh this punk has depression ptsd survivors guilt hallucinations etc etc LIKE DAMN.. NEXT, the action and fight scenes in rotmhs, even in written text form, are sublime to say the least.. my fail cis dudebro trait is that i love crazy insane adrenaline rushing heart pumping shounen-esque battles so much that i could typically care less for the rest of that specific piece of media as long as the fights are good.. FORTUNATELY FOR ME rotmhs is crazy good at balancing its comedy, action, and otherwise more ‘mundane’ scenes together so harmoniously that its such fun read even when theres no swords crossing or heads being beaten in

also important to note, despite being a knovel w korean naming of characters/places, rotmhs actually takes place in ancient china in a wuxia setting so jumping head first into it wont be all that confusing for first time readers/cmedia fans and u can use ur knowledge of cnovels to fill in the gaps.

theres not really much more i have to say on the topic of fighting, im just personally a huge fan of the crazy spectacles rotmhs brings to the table.

saved this for last but THE COMEDY…!!!!!!!! after being soo dramatic w all my previous points and comments ur probably thnkng rotmhs is heavy and somber w no breathing room.. WELL YOURE WRONG. ROTMHS IS FUNNY AS HELL quips and jokes and simple funny actions and scenes litter nearly every page. i mentioned this novel balances its action and comedy well and im NOT LYING youd think maybe the heavy action and light comedy would awkwardly clash but u cldnt be more further from the truth.. rotmhs wears action and comedy like a pair of twin gloves

rotmhs handles its action and comedy in equal doses and it all fits together like matching puzzle pieces, like i really cant stress enough how fun it is to read. not every fight scene is somber, most of the time its chung myung oneshotting someone by hitting them across the head so hard they pass out..

unfortunately im not really the best at listing instances so its be better for u to go read it for urself but this scene from one of the later chapters is soo funny every time i read it i start giggling

OK SO IM SICK AS FUCK BUT I JUSTT WOKE UP FROM A DREAM I HAD AND AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH . BASICALLLLYYY the dream is from watson's POV and its started with this confusing as fuck actionms scene where hoolmes and watson are on top of a train and theres UFOs theyre going after and its CRAZY. thye have to save this guy whos going to be TAKEN by the ALIENS !!!!!! and they end up chasing these UFOS through the badlands and they SAVE the GUY and the aliens just kuinda leave (theyrre not trying to KILL everuone they just wanted too experiment on the guy?) hi! first of all thank you so so much for providing such in-depth information. when i clicked read more on your latest post, i was delighted to see just how long it was & how many links to other great resources there were!

i do have a question about hair washing, if you wouldnt mind answering. what temperature water would someone use for different styles? i would assume some styles (natural & afros?) require more lukewarm water to avoid damage from steam & humidity, but i dont know & would prefer to learn instead of assume.

Natural hair is just hair that hasn't been treated with any chemicals to change its composition. Afros are natural hair, yes, but natural hair can be styled into any form 👍🏾

I'm glad you chose not to assume, but tbh, I have no idea 😅 this is a new one for me. I know loctitians will usually ask me what temperature I want the water to be (well, at least a good one will) while they're washing my hair. I prefer hotter water to wash, with cooler water to rinse when im in the shower doing it myself. But some people might prefer cold!

I found a cool YouTube page called The Science of Black Hair, where she discusses this! Turns out, we been right the whole time! (Well, I could stand to turn my water temp down lmao I bathe in the devil's sweat). She basically says warm water for washing, so as to remove product and oils, and cold for conditioning and rinsing, to help keep the product in while still removing the dirt. 👍🏾 So it's not going to be an issue of temperature for style, as it is just taking care of our hair in general.

Big ramble about baghera and christians performance and also dance technicalities because i need you to appreciate them RIGHT NOW

Bagheras expressions her expressions oh my god shes so good do you know how HARD it is to be expressive like that??? its like dancing twice!! Every instructor ever will tell you expressions are 50% of the performance shes nailing it!!!!! Christians face is unchanged and hes a professional dancer which is valid but also i find it a little funny. Focus 100

The way baghera and christian trust each other! Pair dancing is a two way street always and constantly - even if the "picked up" party seems to be putting in less effort than the "one who picks up" party, that is FAR from the truth. You have to essentially make both your body masses one, knowing where to put your limbs and how far to push your weight to find both your balance. Another detail, from experience - it can be really scary to have your partner touch parts of you that are necessary to be touched for the technicalities. It took me 30 long and painful minutes doing one move over and over to let my partner hold my waist in the proper spot to pick me up. + The spacial and body awareness (of your own and also your parthers body) you need to have to not accidentally hurt your partner is. Insane. They are doing so well, they mustve trained insanely hard!!

Bagheras balance is way better this performance because of the flat shoes and im so glad about it!! the first outfit was stunning, but the heels made her steps seem unsure. Again gotta say expressions are 50% of the performance - if youre not a nerd like me you wouldnt even notice because the rest of her face and body acting are IMMACULATE

Baghera has solid body acting as well. Her forms arent as well defined and movements a little slouchy at times but, again, you wouldnt fucking know because shes so smooth with it. (also if anyone knows, please let me know if baghera has done dancing in the past! even like a school club or something, i am insane about dancers ok <3)

Christian! His forms! Immaculate! I want to use him to point out key points that make an excellent dancer: a) he is light on his feet, almost looks like hes floating. b) pointing his toes for grace points. c) Active heels (lifted off the ground) for better body control and also grace points. d) Swan arms. Ballet arms. Rounded elbows. Whatever you wanna call em. e) Body control. Every muscle is active every move calculated and backed up by experience. Hot Hot Hot

Using your eyes is important (looking in directions lol), it helps railroad the audiences attention to key elements, set the mood and tell a story. Very needed tool in pair dancing to convince the audience of the dancers relationship (in the story of the performance) (also requires a lot of trust and comfort with your partner because you need to hold prolonged eye contact with them). Also diverts audiences attention from you potentially making mistakes with other parts of your body lol. They do it well <3

MASSIVE kudos to the choreography!!! It was very fun, and you could read a story from it!! Loved the bits of visualising the lyrics!!
