It’s the lead up to the Easter holidays and it feels like it so I’ve really been treasuring my weekend breakfasts. A bit of a stressful week - exciting for job offers but then having to make tough decisions and realising that this whole era of my life is coming to an end… But also some lovely moments, baking with friends, breakfast with flatmates and lots of dancing ahead of our shows next week! Oh and the never ending final year project which I think is coming along nicely!
scattered thoughts right now but am currently reading the Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer manga (am following the anime too!) and the arc of Hantengu is particularly fascinating to me
(spoilers after the cut!)
the fact that they've mentioned how the more frightened or threatened he gets, the stronger his four clones (eventually just Zohakuten) become.
i couldn't help but think of how they say anger is a secondary emotion, and is usually rooted in fear.
it also brings to mind how animals would appear to be very violent when they are cornered. the desire to stay alive (or perhaps more accurately, avoid death?) manifests itself in such a manner that appears to be almost unreconcilable with how they would act when not suspecting a threat
going back, is this perhaps why they say "hurt people hurt people?"
there is no other place for the hurt and fear to go except towards others?
This last week was honestly tough, but tbh the book I’m currently reading is pretty slow. I think I may switch to something with a little more action to keep me motivated to finish the month!
I’m so sorry but in the nicest way possible do yall actually read books or just read words??? Cause I’ve been seeing that trend of people not understanding how “snarled” and “eyes darkened” and “eyes softened” etc. was used in a book and like…
Genuinely, do yall just not have imagination?? Or not understand figurative language??? Also eyes do literally darken and soften have you not lived a life??? How do you read with no imagination? Is this how you get through so many books in one month - you simply don’t take the time the understand the words as they are read?
Remember the 6 year old girl who was surrounded by Israeli tanks and the red crescent couldn't reach her? Her name is Hind Hamadeh. Here you can hear the phone call her 15 year old sister, Layan Hamadeh, made with the medics. She was killed exactly a moment later including all people in the car, except for 6 year old Hind who was stuck in the car with the dead bodies of her family, Israeli tanks and IDF surrounding her, shooting, preventing anybody to reach her.
That was last night (29.1.24). Today, still nothing. The fate of Hind remains unknown.
palestine red crescent ambulance team went to rescue her yesterday evening, but they have not returned as of now. We lost contact with them about 18 hours ago, and we still remain unaware of their fate and whether they succeeded in evacuating her or not.
Please, share Hind's story as much as you can on any platform. We need to know what happened to her. Put yourself in her place, how terrified she must be. Don't scroll past this.
RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — More than half a million people in Gaza — a quarter of the population — are starving, according to a report Thursday by the U.N. and other agencies that highlights the humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s bombardment and siege on the territory in response to Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack.
The extent of the population’s hunger eclipsed even the near-famines in Afghanistan and Yemen of recent years, according to figures in the report. The report warned that the risk of famine is “increasing each day,” blaming the hunger on insufficient aid entering Gaza.
“It doesn’t get any worse,’’ said Arif Husain, chief economist for the U.N.’s World Food Program. “I have never seen something at the scale that is happening in Gaza. And at this speed.”
...
At the start of the war, Israel stopped all deliveries of food, water, medicine and fuel into the territory. After U.S. pressure, it allowed a trickle of aid in through Egypt. But U.N. agencies say only 10% of Gaza’s food needs has been entering for weeks.

Taking my summer duties of browsing the library and reading very seriously. Finished my previous two books and am now starting Discworld (very intrigued!). Hit all my daily goals - I am surprised at how walking is making me feel so much better, I would recommend!
it shouldnt, but it always shocks me how frankly and openly the puritans/early protestants spoke about pagan religion and civilisation, rather than shrinking away from it in fear like modern protestants invariably do.
