studying like rory gilmore
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
introduction:
not gonna lie, im not the biggest fan of gilmore girls, and while i do admire rory's studying habits i rlly don't like her as a character. but anyways, ik that in this space she's kinda an icon, and her academic habits are inspirational, so here are some tips on how to study like her, and some academic mistakes that you should avoid :)
things to do:
creating a study routine. have a go-to place that's not distracting, put away anything that can distract you and get to work. it's good to have a routine that you're consistent to. like spending 15 minutes after school reviewing what you learned.
take organized notes. highlight key terms and make sure that your notes are neat and make sense.
study with flashcards. rory uses flashcards to study which is a great method. you can do this on paper or use digital flashcards :)
always have a book to read. rory always has a book to read, and it's always good to have something prouctive to do after you finish your work early in class. i have a block schedule so classes take forever, and when i have nothing to do i like to read.
join extracurriculars. although i think it took rory a whole season to do this (not sure) make sure you join clubs! joining clubs and having leadership roles within them looks really good to colleges when you're applying and also just helps you make new friends.
if your stuck studying on one subject then go to another. rory talks about doing this in an episode and although it doesn't sound productive it is! if you're really stuck and frustrated while studying for one class, then go and do work for another on and then come back to what's making you frustrated.
things to avoid:
not being able to handle criticism. in the show rory is pretty bad at taking criticism or dealing with getting bad grades. she kinda views it as some sort of attack on her intelligence which is a horrible mentality to have. when you get bad grades learn from it, and learn from constructive criticism as well. i know it sucks when you do bad but ultimately that's how you learn what to do better.
conclusion:
you don't need to be like anyone else and just follow a routine that suits YOU! it's great to take inspiration from other people and from characters, but ultimately, just do what makes you feel the happiest and what makes you the most succesful.

Imagine Hayden Christensen warms your day up.
Warnings: none, light, short reading.
***
Here you are again. You have all that you want: a good job, good paycheck, but not a domestic stability. Your family, in spite of you being an adult woman capable of looking after yourself, keeps meddling in your life and always says things aimed to hurt you.
Who cares whether you are peaceful, gentle, good hearted? Who would remember the sacrifices done throughout these years to them? Should it really surprise anyone at all that you are trying to be unreachable?
You’ve had a huge fight with your grandparents. They are difficult to handle most of times, they don’t make your life easy… even if they don’t live with you anymore, but this weekend you paid them a visit and they hurt you badly.
Still under the effect of these old wounds, you opt to isolate yourself at home. It’s when Hayden comes at you. Your long time celebrity friend has been wondering why you haven’t been picking up his calls, wondering about your whereabouts.
On this Saturday, though, you are going to get a pleasantly surprise. Hayden decides to come to your apartment and check on you himself.
“Frankly, my dear Y/N, I do give a damn.”
Such are his thoughts when rewinding at the back of his mind the gleeful way you often lead your life, or how you helped him throughout his divorce, often there for him when you needed.
As Hayden prepares to drive all the way to meet you, he recollects the times you made him laugh when he was heartbroken due to a misunderstanding that led his ex wife ask for divorce; or even before, when you cheered him up after the critics he got in “Revenge of the Sith”.
Your closest friend also remembers when you encouraged him to take back the role of Anakin Skywalked/Darth Vader, ever the enthusiast about “Star Wars.”
(“Seriously, H. No one does the Darth Vader thing better than you”, you told him then.
“I do not feel so inclined… I mean, don’t take me wrong but…”
“I will not, I will take you by Force.”)
A joke that brought him to laughters then….and makes him smile now. But for a while he could tell you’ve not been the same. There was sadness in your eyes, exhaustion showing in how you sighed… your smile faltered often, and he could tell you haven’t been yourself lately. Whenever he tried to inquire, you shooed him away.
Once this upset him, now he knows he should have never given you up—because you never quit him.
Now here he is, anxious to check on you. He doesn’t care whether you are sick or not, he’s going to be with you, to spend weekend with you.
Hayden Christensen is going to look after you… because he also comes to realize he came to love you.
***
Unbeknownst about it, you follow your routine. You have just taken a shower, so your hair is wet and you are dressing a black “Darth Vader” blouse and jeans shorts. You are about to have ice cream for lunch when the doorbell rings.
“Who the hell is here?”, you ask yourself out loud, not in the mood for interaction.
But every moaning dies when opening the door and seeing Hayden Christensen with a grave look on his face.
“Hayden!”, you exclaim, rather shocked for his unexpected visit. “What are you doing here?”
“We haven’t talked during these past four days. It is very atypical of you to go off like this”, says he, engulfing you in an embrace that makes you mewl deep inside. “I missed you, Y/Nickname.”
This isn’t how you expect to be greeted by a friend. When his strong arms engulf your petite frame in a warm embrace, your heart races and your mind goes blank. When breathing in his scent, your body chemistry is affected—an unfamiliar warmth clings onto your feminine parts in a way that has never affected you before. At least not where your friendship has been concerned.
Which makes you realize that there’s always been that question which you promptly avoided to ask: is friendship enough for you?
Sweeping away such thoughts, you rather focus in the delight his presence gives you.
“Well?”, says he, impatiently so when both of you reluctantly part of the other. “What’s your excuse?”
“I wasn’t being myself lately”, you admit, aware how pointless it would be to lie to him, not after his surprising visit. “I was just…”
You sigh before updating him about the recent events. You detest how family businesses affect you, and so suddenly you find yourself sitting in the couch with him by your side as you burst into tears.
This time roles are reversed and Hayden consoles you, not only patting your shoulders, but actually listening to what you have to say. And then he plays with your hair, delicately so, before making you look at him.
He can tell you are a mess, but this fragility you often kept to yourself. Thus it is meaningful how open you are to him, like he has been to yourself.
Indeed, what you two have is rare.
“You don’t have to shy away from me”, he helps wiping away your tears. “Come on, you have no right, not when you saw me at my worst.”
You have no right to protest it, your conscience already admonishes you for any attempt in doing it. So you nod your head and lean it against his shoulder, melting in his strong arms.
“I apologize for being proud”, you sigh heavily, feeling like he’s your home and he is, you know it. “I did not wish to trouble you.”
Hayden scoffs at your lame excuse and you chuckle at the sound of it. He’s not ready to admit it yet but when he lowers his gaze to meet yours, his heart stops lightly.
Oh.
“For the love of God, woman, when have you ever troubled me?! If you have, I would’ve told you somehow.” Pleased to make you smile, he adds: “I am staying this weekend.”
“Hayden!”, you blush, the first evidence of something that gives him hopes that perhaps his fondness is not entirely one side.
“What? You looked after me, now I should return the favour”, says he as a matter of factly. “I am not taking any no as answers.”
You don’t protest, specially because it does feel good to be finally looked after at least once. You are the one who tends others and always try to be strong.
As you nod, you delegate Hayden the control that used to be yours.
“What happened?”, he inquires as you two sit in the couch.
As he plays with your hair and you get comfortable with his presence in more than friendly acceptable ways, you tell him about your recent emotional distress.
He listens.
Attentively so.
And then… he lifts your chin, seeing sadness in these pretty y/c eyes of yours. His long fingers hold you still and you are paralyzed, mesmerized by how he denudes your soul.
Never before you felt so exposed.
Never before you felt… seen.
Understood.
“I need to apologize”, says he, breaking the spell, though he doesn’t let go of you for a moment.
“What for?”, so you question him, confused. “You’ve never done any wrongs to me, Hayden.”
“I’m afraid I have”, Hayden sighs before parting the gaze just to dive again in you. “I took more than enough time to realize I love you. I think I was afraid to admit it concerning all I’ve been through, as had you, but I cannot look away.”
You are shocked by his words and, as a result, your mind goes blank. Hayden waits as you process it, partly fearful for being misled into think you feel the same.
His heart starts to race faster when you lean into him with a sweet smile on your lips.
“You are my sunshine and you make me happy when skies are grey”, you translate your thoughts in such a famous lyric before holding him near and kissing him gently.
Every doubt dies at this very moment, when peace moves away the last reminiscences of a long lasting storm.
So there you two remain, locking lips, locking hands with interwoven hearts.

This isn’t a question as much as it is an agreement with your last ask (talking about how romance is both looked for and expected from IFs). I’m personally pansexual and love a good harem, but it is growing more and more evident that that is what readers/players are expecting from our stories/games. Maybe it’s a maturity issue with the fans begging for more romance options and the anger when a plot point doesn’t play out the way they want; but you also see that with grown adults in other fandoms—namely Star Wars or A Song of Ice and Fire.
I enjoy writing romance and I do write it, but that is not the only thing my stories are about. It gives me anxiety when my readers expect more than what I’ve promised. And I always gaslight myself into thinking that I should be giving them what exactly they want instead of writing for myself.
I suppose I do have a question: how do you maintain fan expectations in your IF and stay true to your vision with/without worrying about their opinions? <3
Unfortunately, there is no way to stop your audience from having expectations that don't match up with the story you want to tell or where you want to take your characters. This is a normal part of writing fiction--everyone is going to have an opinion, everyone is going to want different things, and some people are going to be disappointed when you don't follow through with the thing they imagined in their head.
And, as an author, it can be a lot to handle.
Managing feedback--whether it's criticism, wildly off the charts expectations and assumptions, hate messages, or actual constructive critique--is a skill. It takes time to learn how to manage it without feeling like you're attacked and need to go on the defensive. It can also be really hard not to sit with all of this feedback and want to change your whole story to fit your audience's demands.
There's no easy way to get used to this. I think a good starting place is to have a dedicated beta group--either your playtesters, an editor, a few trusted friends with whom you share in-development things--so you can get genuine feedback before you put it into the public eye. It's really easy for writers to isolate themselves because it's a one-person job, but you need to have people with whom you can safely share the unpublished stages. Once something gets published, it's a free-for-all and you can't control how people react to your work, positive or negative. You cannot rely on that for the kind of feedback you would get from a beta group.
Furthermore, you are not writing for one person, regardless of how many times they ask (if they want something personalized, they can commission you). A lesson that was stressed to me in grad school is how fragile a playwright's new work can be when it is in the workshop/staged reading stage. People are giving you their opinion constantly. You make changes, you make edits, you come back one day with a whole new draft of Act 2 and the actors have to adjust. It's really easy to want to make changes to the characters so they better suit the actors originating them. Sometimes actors make demands because they had an idea about the character they are playing and they were really excited about it and they come to you with questions. The fate of a play is that it will be performed multiple times by many actors, not just the first one.
My supervisor told me: "Don't write the role for the actor--their job is to play the character you wrote, not the other way around."
And I think this can be applied to IF. Be clear about the direction of your game from the beginning. If players want something that isn't part of your vision, it's OK for them to voice that--but they may also have to accept that this isn't the type of game for what they want.
At the end of the day, you need to let your audience have their opinions on your work. That doesn't mean you're obligated to listen to them.

I’ve had a thought nagging at me ever since I first watched ‘Death Takes a Holiday’ and it’s been driving me a little crazy.
My thought is this: when the wounded flood in and the nightmare starts up again, Father Mulcahy, for all his purity and good-naturedness... takes on the role of an angel of death figure.
When Mulcahy tries to do the last rites on the dying soldier in ‘Death Takes a Holiday’, B.J. tells him, “No. You can’t have him yet.” It made me realize that from the doctors’ perspective, if Mulcahy closes in because things are looking dire, that means that they lost. They have to give their patient up. They failed.
It’s not just that episode. It’s also in the way he’s always present in the OR, as crucial a presence as the doctors or nurses, always lingering... in case someone dies. Waiting for someone to die. He’s also there to help if he’s needed for orderly duties, of course, and I’m sure he’s also praying for things to go well - but the main reason he’s there every single time, on hand even when there’s only a few causalities and everyone’s assistance isn’t necessary, is if someone doesn’t make it. He considers that a sacred task, and within his occupation, it is. But for the doctors, his stepping in to do his job means that they failed at theirs, and they lost the life.
On a spiritual level, really, if the healing of the physical body by the doctors fails, then the priest steps in to try to provide benediction to the soul, right? Being a man of faith, Mulcahy believes that’s just as critical, that a soul’s just as if not more important than the body, and it’s a solemn task but one that probably gives him a modicum of consolation, that he’s provided a service that’s essential within his world, and that he was there to provide that to the fallen in their final moments. But none of the surgeons who’d be torn up over losing a patient (aka all of them except Frank) are particularly religious. We don’t know if they believe in a heaven or not. It doesn’t matter to them that Mulcahy’s providing something to the soul, or that the soldier they couldn’t save may be in a better place. At the end of the day, they’ve still got a dead kid on their table, and that weight’s on them.
And it’s not just the last rites. The doctors handle the wounded living; Mulcahy is seemingly the person within the camp who’s in charge of the deceased. In one episode he explicitly mentions serving as the Summary Court Officer for one of the fallen young men: a Summary Court Officer is “a commissioned officer appointed to handle the personal property and effects of deceased personnel.” We see him do this in multiple episodes; Radar and other corpsman usually take care of the living soldier’s belongings (which Mulcahy sometimes assists with), but Mulcahy’s the one we see boxing up the belongings of the deceased to ship them back to their families. He’s often the one who writes the letter that lets them know they’ve lost a son.
As much as all of them hurt for the lives they can’t save, Hawkeye and B.J. get to escape back to the Swamp right after and drown it away with booze, and Radar gets to stare down at a statistic in his report and wonder how a little number could possibly constitute an entire human being - but Mulcahy’s the one shifting through the remnants of a stolen life, trying to find a way to be tactful about something heart-breaking and maybe even life-ruining. He has that burden on him. He’s the one holding the hands of murdered eighteen year olds as they breathe their last breaths, something arguably more personal and intimate than rifling around in anonymous insides like the surgeons do - but that’s not even the end of it. It doesn’t end there. Because afterwards, in his duty to inform the families of their loss, he’s forced to inflict an impossibly painful wound. Can you imagine repeatedly writing letters that, when opened, will bring people to their knees with grief? Worse yet, the depersonalization of it? Especially for someone as people-oriented as Mulcahy. Maybe it’s better, not having to look them in the eye when you tell them, not having to see their initial pain, like a doctor would at a normal hospital after a surgery proved fatal or a person succumbed to a sickness. In both cases, you don’t have to see them after. You tell them the news and you don’t have to stick around to see the years and years of grief.
But there’s a different pain, for the surgeons and for Mulcahy, in how much they care about people, in being forced to do this repeatedly, endlessly, until the causalities all blur, until the deaths don’t even hurt anymore, until forgetting is possible and you realize the family would’ve got the letter last week and you forgot to send a prayer their way. He doesn’t just feel useless - he’s being forced to actively inflict pain. No other priest besides a war chaplain would have that responsibility. As often as a confession goes well and he offers a recovering soldier some peace, does it even balance out? Does a smile and some relief make up for being forced to play ferrymen to the dead?
It’s an impossible task... and it’s never even dwelled on or given focus. He just lives with that.
Really makes me think about all those times he’s stood in such a way that one of the OR lights lit his head up like a halo.

I was looking up music and I heard the song "hug me" (the one in the animation memes) and I couldnt help but think of an au where Phoenix needs to act in a movie for a mission with John Juniper and Juniper gets attached (phoenix is internally screaming)
Juniper is an actor.
World famous, critically acclaimed for his appearances in movies like “Spying the Liar” and “Marigolds are forever,” near-universally beloved and one of the best of his craft in the entire world - at least, if you were to ask him.
Though if you did actually ask him, he would, of course, put it a little more delicately.
The point is, Juniper knows acting, knows body language and cadence and what they can mean, has perfected his ability to pretend, to immerse himself in a role - he’s learned just about everything there is about acting and honed it to perfection. Not that he actually has to give his all most of the time, nowadays. Even a sloppy attempt seems to be enough for most.
Still, he tries, because what kind of actor would he be if he didn’t actually put in the effort? (Though few things were worthy of his real A-game.)
He’s getting off track again. Where was he? Oh, yes -
There is an actor on set that he does not recognise.
A minor part at best (though he knows that there’s not really such a thing as a “small” role, really - they’re all integral making a movie what it is), with no spoken lines, which seems to be perfectly suited to them, as they don’t speak. At least, not as far as he’s heard.
And they’re new. A last minute addition, he’s told - the previous actor got sick or something, and they were brought on to fill the gap. For some reason.
They’re reclusive, and quiet, avoiding interacting with anyone they don’t need to, and when they speak they speak in sign language rather than aloud - though as far as he can tell they show no indicators of being deaf.
He’s not sure what catches his attention about them besides the fact that they showed up so late into production, but he doesn’t usually pay attention to people enough to notice such things.
Still, he finds himself watching them as subtly as he can.
He sees their eyes dart around the room, and them sneaking off when people aren’t looking to snoop around the building.
He sees the way their eyes go unfocused sometimes as they tilt their head every so slightly, as if listening to something nobody else can hear.
He can tell they aren’t who they say they are, as if reading them like an open book.
They move silently, as though accustomed to sneaking constantly. They rarely startle, aware of their surroundings at all times, and when someone does manage to get the jump on them he can see as their hand twitches as if they’d been about to turn around and hit the guy, before their body language immediately becomes relaxed.
Despite clearly not being accustomed to the whole process, they’re a pretty good actor, blending into the background seamlessly.
These are all suspicious things, but not something he’d be particularly invested in usually. He’s far too busy - he’d probably just pass along a message to security or someone who could handle it better.
But this movie’s production is proving to be dreadfully boring, and he finds himself watching them more than he’d like to admit.
Which is how he catches them narrowly sidestepping a heavy piece of equipment falling right where they’d been just a moment ago, which would’ve surely severely hurt if not outright killed them, and instead of looking shocked or afraid he watches their eyes narrow and snap upwards.
Their gaze flicks back and forth for a few seconds before apparently spotting something, and looking upwards himself he catches a flicker of movement. His mind races for a moment.
There’d been someone up there, where the piece of equipment had been. Looking back down at the thing itself, he spots… loose screws.
Sabotage? A murder attempt? On his set? But… why? Why this random filler actor, rather than, say, him?
His train of thought halts suddenly as he catches the actor in question disappear into the crowd, using the tumult caused by the fall to slip away unnoticed, no doubt in pursuit of the strange fellow who’d just tried to kill them.
Juniper, swept up in the mystery of it, doesn’t even stop to think about it before he’s pushing after them.

I also have an idea to recontextualize leafpool’s arc. And I wanted it to involve her fragile transfemininity and lesbianism and how she’s so critical of herself and fears that she would never be a “true lesbian”.
because i take inspiration from powderseas’s interpretation of squilf and I really do like the interpretation but I like to see leaf as a polar opposite when it comes to her relationship with transgenderism.
while squilf is way, more confident and fluid with her gender expression. Not letting micro labels get in the way of who she is. leafpool fears that if she tries to be somewhat fluid with her gender expression she would be treated as a joke and a man. So she stick to gender stereotypes and roles. The difference between her and her brother is that squilf is confident and ultimately happy with himself and allows him to be whoever he wants to be. leafpool has been hurt, and in turn she regurgitated into gender roles and stereotypes.
because at that time she identified as a nonbinary lesbian but when the only person she trusted crowfeather calls her a “ugly delusional man who just wants to get with lesbian” she breaks. now she only identifies as a trans woman. he tries her best present, more feminine, she loses weight. Tries to do voice training. Even try to trim some excessive fur on her face, now she’s stuck in a dilemma of trying to be her self and trying to fit a object that people might like.
leaf dysphoria in a nutshell
This is such an interesting portrayal, Marina. You don't often see people portray gender dysphoria that much to such extreme degrees. I like the reference to powdersea's portrayal of SquirrelFlight's relationship with being trans and how it contrasts with LeafPool's relationship with it.
Gender dysphoria is very much a real thing, not every single trans person will go through it, but it still exists. It's important, at least I believe it's important, to get out there that gender dysphoria can be nasty, it can be soul crushing and awful, but by portraying it, it sort of lets those who have/are going through it some sort of comfort, that they are not alone.
The topic of transgender characters and their experiences/relationships with it can be anything, it can be however one would like to write it as long as it's handled properly. Sometimes you get those who support you, sometimes you feel comfortable with yourself, but sometimes there are people who don't feel that way. Like with LeafPool, you mentioned that CrowFeather makes transphobic remarks about her and even before that, LeafPool struggles immensely with her lack of self confidence towards wanting to transition, things like this happens in the real world, it exists! I really like what you've done with LeafPool, Marina, it's very interesting, thought provoking, and also brings light to those who might be in a similar situation like your version of LeafPool is in. Perhaps even finding comfort in it, even if she isn't real, it still feels all the better knowing that people know that your struggles are known and shared, To feel like you need to force yourself to abide by some fake fucking "do's and don'ts of being trans" rules that people just made up. It's important to talk about it, to portray it with care, not every trans experience will be the same, some will have a good time with it while others will have a horrible time with it, all that matters is that you're here and you're doing great

IDK IF ITS TOO LATE FOR THE CHARACTER ASK GAME buuut trish if ur still doing it!
(For this ask game)
First impression: I guess I didn’t really think much about her at first? I loved her intro and her almost breaking Narancia’s wrist + dunking on Fugo for no discernible reason was so awesome of her. But she unfortunately kinda took a back seat for the beginning parts of Vento Aureo, and I just found myself wishing there was more of her, and that she was granted more agency by the narrative.
Impression now: LOVE HER SO MUCH. After like the halfway point of VA she very quickly became a highlight of the part for me. The way she doesn’t hesitate to question what’s happening around her, chooses to become an active player instead of letting her (very justified) fear consume her, and when she not only gets a stand, but one that presents her softness as a strength and demonstrates the incredible resolve she has? So so good. I also really really love her in the Purple Haze Feedback bonus chapter, where she meets Bucciarati’s mom and ponders whether he was a good person after all, and I think she was a great perspective to frame the Giorno vs Mista fight in the flashback. I only wish she had more time in the spotlight, and that she had a more active role in the final fight (which. Sorta ties in to other criticisms I have of the part as a whole).
Favorite moment: Obvious answer, but the Notorious BIG fight. Like I said before, I think Spice Girl is a perfect stand for her, and I like that she’s sentient, which allows her to basically interact with her own conscience while she’s suddenly thrust into a life-or-death situation only she can handle. And we finally have a fight where it’s not Giorno stepping in to save everyone – because without Trish, Giorno would’ve been out of commission for good. I also just found the way she struggles, has to think on her toes, and ultimately perseveres very refreshing and human in a way that reminds me of what I loved about Jonathan in Phantom Blood. And her “arrivederci” at the end is so awesome I clap and cheer every time I see it. Again it makes me wish we had more Trish-centric arcs, because Notorious BIG was so so good and she was what made it such a highlight for me.
Idea for a story: Post-canon Trish aughhh I love you. Whether it’s immediately after Vento Aureo where Giorno isolates her from her only living friends, and she has to navigate life on her own after her world was shattered over the course of a week, or years down the road where (I think) she eventually reunites with them, has to confront Fugo now that’s he’s back, interacts with Sheila E. (so much tragic toxic foil relationship potential), and balances her stardom with her ties to the criminal underworld. I need to write more about her there’s so much to talk about with her.
Unpopular opinion: As much as I love AUs where she joins Passione in some capacity, I don’t think that would be a good or satisfying ending for her. I think she retains those relationships eventually, and she definitely wont ever be able to live a “normal” life after everything she witnessed, but the fact that she ultimately leaves Passione and does something else with her life is good, actually. It builds on her contrasts with Narancia (where he didn’t take the chance to lead a better life, and she did), and, frankly, I don’t think she deserves to have to do horrible things and fight to survive for the rest of her life.
Favorite relationship: Her and Narancia!! The parallels between them are so awesome, and I like how Narancia projects onto her at first, but eventually gets to actually know her as a person – and while they’re different in many ways, they’re still similar, and Trish grows to trust him, too (love that one of the first things she does after the body swap is to run to “Narancia” for comfort). And her friendship with Mista by the end is so fun and silly too, and quickly turns tragic with the PHF bonus chapter stuff. Let them go to the mall together please I’m begging no more horrors </3
Favorite headcanon: When she’s older and far into her music career, rumors start spreading around that she’s involved with the mafia. They’re generally treated with the same level of seriousness as the “Paul McCartney/Avril Lavigne died and was replaced with a lookalike” conspiracies. Eventually, she puts out a rock opera concept album based on a “fictional mafia story,” with a couple strangely-dressed musicians nobody can place a name to – a guitarist and a pianist – joining her usual lineup. Everyone praises her for being a meme savvy queen.

Sincerely, a Rainbow of stories for you:
Please Tell Me the Story of the Rainbow: Part 7
Tumblr media
(Location: Exhibition at an Old Castle, Central Kingdom, Day Time)
Figaro: That plan sounds good. That cunning tendency you two have, I don't hate it.
Snow: Then feel free to join us, Figgie.
White: We’ll go all out to win everyone over!
Snow & White: Yay!
Figaro: As you should. After all, we are “good” wizards.
Following the fading sounds of chattering voices disappearing into the back of the venue were Murr and Shylock.
Murr: Hey, do you think it would be easier to win over the guests if something terrible happened?
Shylock: That may be the case. However, to wish for such a thing before an incident even occurs...
Murr: Do I have to stay out of trouble?
Shylock: Not at all. You are free to do as you wish.
I’d never wish for such an incident but… the immorality of expecting such an event is irresistibly tempting.
Murr: What a nice expression! Incidents are exciting!
Shylock: Fufu. However, that may not be our role this time. I’m afraid it’d be all too easy to forget what is expected of us while engrossed in these strange exhibits.
Murr: Well, that’s fine! It's a waste not to enjoy the fun things in front of you before they’re gone!
Shylock: Yes, let's go. To truly enjoy this invitation.
A few paces ahead of them was Faust. Lennox's large shadow trailed not far behind him.
Faust: I don't really feel like going through with this, but... it can't be helped now that we’ve already accepted.
It would be inconvenient if something were to happen and they blamed us for not being able to handle it.
Lennox: Once again, your words are misleading, Lord Faust. You mean to participate in order to spare the younger wizards from criticism in case of an emergency.
Faust: You’re wrong.
Lennox: I have a rough idea of the venue’s security arrangements. I do not believe there are any weak points.
Faust: I thought the same... it's a pretty large venue, so it seems the magical exhibits are scattered throughout. Let's go up to the top floor, and make our rounds as we head down.
Lennox: I will accompany you.
Faust: Very well. If anything unusual occurs, I’ll investigate first. While I do that, you should guide visitors away from the area… wait no. Why are you even following me? Go somewhere else.
Lennox: If an incident does occur, I believe it would be best to respond in the way you suggested.
Faust…
Lennox: Should I leave?
Faust: I understand, do as you like.
Lennox: Thank you, I will.
Nero: Y’know, Riquet, the party on the last day will have a buffet.
Riquet: What is a buffet?
Bradley whistled as he snatched the informational pamphlet that Nero attempted to show Rike out of his hands.
Bradley: Y’ take as much food as you want ‘nd pile it onto yer plate.
Which ones to choose… well, isn't this a large selection? As long as I can eat my fill, I don't mind attending the party at least.
Riquet: Getting to eat everything I want… I feel as though I will fall into depravity.
Bradley: What’s wrong with that? You’ve never been to a place like this before, right? You should just do whatever you like.
Riquet: I will not. And it’s easier to lose your way among so many options.
Nero: That’s fine. There are lots’o high quality options ‘ere, and it’s yer dinner, so it’s okay to indulge for a bit.
Riquet: …Really?
Nero: I’m sure they’ll also have your favorite: Bread Pudding.
Riquet: Will you make it for me?
Nero: I don’t make the food here though…
Riquet: Is that… so…
Nero: The chefs ‘ere ‘re better ‘nd more skilled than me.
Riquet: But I like your cooking.
Nero: Haha, it’s an honor. If y’ find anything y’ like let me know and I’ll make it when we get back to the house.
Bradley: Oh, isn't that nice? I guess you’ll need to try a whole bunch o’ new things.
Riquet: Okay!
Mithra: That is what a buffet is. If you do not finish every dish laid out for you, you will be killed.
Mitile: What?! No one’s going to die! All you have to do is pick out as much food as you like and eat it.
Mithra: How much is “as much as you like”? Does that mean I can eat it all myself?
Mitile: According to the rules, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it's not good to keep everything to yourself. We all have to share with each other.
Mithra: Well, it will depend on my mood. Where is the buffet displayed?
Mitile: The buffet isn’t an exhibit though…
Owen: It doesn't matter, I'm not interested in such a small reward. Can I leave?
Rustica: You can decide whether or not you are interested after looking around a little more.
There may be rewards that will make you much happier than parties and luxurious meals.
Chloe: That's right, it’d be a waste to miss a reward just because you left early.
Owen: There’s no way something that would satisfy me would be in a place like this.
Chloe: Where would it be?
Owen: …Somewhere?
Rustica: If it exists somewhere in this world, it may very well be here.
You may encounter it today, tomorrow, or even in a hundred years.
Owen: You’re so annoying. Can I cover that noisy mouth?
Rustica: If something is going to be covered, I’d rather it be my ears. When you cover your ears, you can hear the sounds inside you echoing, right? It’s so exciting to hear the voice of your heart. Go ahead and do so.
Chloe: Oh, everyone’s gone ahead. Look, Cain is waiting for us.
Cain: Hey! Don’t get lost.
Owen: Ha? Who’s lost?
Rustica: What should we do? Are you lost?
Owen: I’m not trying to be.*
Chloe: Rustica gets lost all the time.
Rustica: Haha, that’s right. But maybe I… maybe it’s because I want to get lost. Thank you, Chloe.
Chloe: Wait, why?
Rustica: I mean… I’m able to get lost because there’s someone looking for me.
Arthur: What is this statue...?
Cain: Arthur, did something happen?
Arthur: Look at this.
Cain: What a strange statue. There are so many  tails on the body. Let’s see… the title is... "Oz"?!
Oz: ...What has happened?
Arthur: Lord Oz! I-it’s nothing at all.
Oz:  You’ve seen the sculpture?
Arthur: Oh!
Cain: I thought it was some creepy monster, but it looks like it’s a figure of some legend about Oz. You sure have a lot of stories surrounding you, Oz.
Oz: I have no interest in what others say about me. Let the masses do as they wish.
Arthur: However...I cannot accept the display of a statue that claims to depict Lord Oz, but instead resembles a demonic beast rather than a person. I regret putting organizers in this position, but I must ask them to remove this statue...
Cain: Huh? The statue has a numberer next to the title. This one’s nine.
Arthur: What?
Cain: One two three… this corner is entirely sculptures of “Oz”.
Oz: There are roughly twenty of them.
Arthur: The entire corner depicts legends surrounding Lord Oz… did the artists research beforehand? The quality of these statues are amazing, but...
Oz: This one resembles the Leviathan, though the tail is now the head
Cain: Regardless of their image, they all definitely carry a dignified presence. It's certainly a sight to see so many "Oz" statues lined up. Hey Oz, could you stand over here for a second?
Oz: … Here?
Cain: Yep! What a cool sight. Next to all these statues, the real Oz looks like a piece of artwork.
Arthur: … Even so, these monstrous figures do not resemble Lord Oz at all. The real Lord Oz is the coolest!
Cain: That’s, right, he’s the best out of all of them!
Oz: …
Arthur: Oh! …Lord Oz, could you stand over here next?
Oz: If that is what you desire.
Arthur: Cain, what do you think? From this position, does it not look like Lord Oz has subjugated a gigantic monster?
Cain Definitely. He gives off the impression of absolute power! It definitely feels like he's the pinnacle of all the other Ozs.
Arthur: They are not Lord Oz.
Cain: Oz definitely looks powerful... but from this pose, it looks like it’d be difficult for your opponent to give up. Oz, could you move over there next?
Oz: …
Faust: They’ve collected so many rare gemstones from all over the world... I'm not particularly knowledgeable, but the quality of the items is apparent. It's clear the event is by an art dealer. He seems like quite a knowledgeable man.
Lennox: The venue’s security seems to be good, too. As Lords Snow and White said, he seems to be quite an influential person.
Nero: After all, the jewelry here is different from the ones lined up at market stalls. These ‘re every bit worth the value.
Faust: Leno, take a look. Apparently this ore is mined in the Southern Country. It’s quite beautiful.
Lenox: There is a lot of undeveloped land in the Southern Country. I hear the remote lands far from settlements are rich in minerals.
Bradley: Oh, so it’s like a treasure trove lying untouched? Sounds like someone could make a profit if it was exploited.
Nero: Brad... how long have you been here? I thought y’ left a while ago.
Bradley: If I’d left without permission, those damned Grandpas ‘d never shut up. Even if I’m just going through the motions, I still hav’ta be ‘ere. I’m any case, that ore looks like it’ll appreciate. ‘Re things like this lying all over the south?
* I believe this line may be a colloquial expression, but I couldn’t find much on it, so I translated it as best I could. The original line is 狙ってなるものじゃないだろ (narate naru mono ja nai darou). I believe 狙ってなるもの (narate naru mono) means something you are aiming for or attempting to do. If anyone more qualified than me understands this phrase and believes that I’ve used it incorrectly, please feel free to message me so that I may correct it. Thank you :)

Critical Role, Campaign 3 Episode 88
Ah yeah, 9th Anniversary! Sweet ... hence the fancy duds! Cool ...
Wr don't need a skit, just let Taliesin cause Sam massive distractions ... oh, okay ... yeah, these fake Sam ads are always fun ... that one was ... unique ...
Plushie Sprinkle! OH MY GODS IT'S SO CUTE!!! :3
Ah yeah, cliffhanger resolution time! What's happening?
Okay, so have they been rumbled? Who is this? Does not sound good ... hmmmm ... gotta be careful with this ...
A "cute" growl? Hmmmm ...
Touch your friends with CONSENT, Letters ...
A SLITHERING sound? That can't be good ...
Travis' sleep paralysis demon is Laudna, apparently ...
I love how they're almost CASUALLY considering letting complete strangers suffocate in the Hole ... this group really are a bunch of murder hobos ...
Imogen: "We don't kill people!" Ashton : "We just power them down." FCG: "So they just go to sleep?" Ashton: "For a very long time, yes."
Hallucinatory Terrain? Sounds cool ... oh, ten minutes to cast? Yeah, maybe not ...
So they're coming now ...
A Battlemap? Just in case? Okay ... Sam's plug may not actually be necessary ...
Laudna-in-the-box ... XD
Pass Without A Trace is verbal composed? I agree, that IS counterintuitive ...
The porno play again? Really?
So they definitely ARE bad guys ... Unsettling Presence? Yup ...
They DOMESTICATED one of the freaky worms? Oh dear gods ...
Yeah, that's just LOVELY ... oh, it's BLIND! Great ... and it just KEEPS GETTING WORSE ... yeah, Travis is HATING IT ...
Time for D&D maths, guys ...
Laudna's Mission: Impossible dance of evasion ... XD
Sound like rocks, Ashton!
It has a freaky FLOATY ability? Weird ... crap, there's TWO MORE!!! Shit ...
Balls ... Imogen's BUSTED ... O.O
It's BITING HER HEAD?!!! Aaaaaaaah! Now it's CHEWING?!!! Fuck! Noooooo ...
How is Laudna not completely panicking right now? Seriously ...
An ANIMAL HANDLING check? Hmmm ... NAT20!!! Yes! This is a total fucking MIRACLE that this worked ...
Just get out of here, creature! Shoo!
Oh shit ... 7? That's such a bad roll, Laura ... it's just SO BAD right now ...
Shock Flare? Really? And now Inflict Wounds? Might be better ...
Laura: "TRAVIS, SHUT UP!!!" Maybe too late for that, now ...
Foll for Initiative? FUCK!!!
Matt's Peter Lorre impression is beautiful ... XD
Laudna convinces Fearne to turn into one of THESE things ... okay ... a Slither? Really? Ye gods ... Marisha thinks it's cute ... Travis: "Shit, WHAT?!!!"
Oh fuck yeah, they still can't see anything ...
FCG casts Guiding Bolt at 4th Level? At Disadvantage ... oof ... it still hits! Phew ... 23 damage! Yes!
More chewing! Argh! But Imogen's mental cries are oddly hilarious ... LOL
Yeet the faux slither! Fearne goes upstairs ... and now she's floating about up there ... she's getting SCRITCHES?!!! Really?
A bigger Battlemap? Hmmmm ...
Tremorsense, not Blimdsight ...
Oh, this is not good at all ... they're in a BAD SPOT right now ...
Marisha gets Whispers! Okay then ...
Stay quiet? RIGHT NOW?!!!
A deception check? As a worm? This is one of the most surreal battles we've had on this ...
Orym FEELS HIS WAY to the fight ... ye gods ... oh, here it is ... and ENGAGE!!! Stabby stabby stabby! A Goading attack! Sweet ... a lot oh hits ... and he IMMEDIATELY gets the HDYWTDT!!! Nice ...
She's free! Meanwhile Orym's puking ... Imogen tries to stop it and he vomits into her hand ... oof ...
Fake them out, Fearne!
It's working, she's leading them away! But NOW shat does she do?
Chetney starts to do a Crimson Rite ...
Yeah, everybody's just HOLDING right now, ready for whatever ... FCG can't heal Imogen because it makes noise ...
Lead them outside, Fearne! Come on ... this might actually work ...
Looks like it might be clear enough for now, at least ... Darkness dropped! Imogen is HURT ... not TOO bad but thos must be painful ... 2nd Level Cure Wounds from FCG ... 13 points of healing back! Phew ...
Yeah, how's Zhesh ... okay, not great ...
The Hole is turning into Mrs Miggens' pie shop cellar in Sweeney Todd ...
Can a slither SHRUG? XD Deception check ...
Crap, she's busted ... oh, no, they're just GOADING her ... now what? So she's just FAKING IT st someone else's door ...
They're burrowing! Okay Fearne, notes your chance! She flees to the others again ... or TRIES to ... yeah, she doesn't actually know WHERE she is so she just KEEPS GOING ...
Fearne is now LOST underground ... crap ...
This has become very surreal all of a sudden ...
Locate Creature? To guide her back? Yes, do that ...
FCG I'd trying to guide her back to them through some VERY ridiculous second hand directions ... and she's FINALLY back home them ...
"The Purple Lightning does not strike twice." Okay ...
Zhesh is fascinated by Ashton's hammer AND his skull ...
Oh ... a crystal blade replacement for FCG's saw? Cool ... that could be pretty sweet ...
They use the bones of their beloved dead in crafting things? That's cool in a creepy way ...
So the bane worms are basically like sandworms ...
A shortsword? Cool ... and it's blue ... that's very cute ... good choice, Orym ... oh yeah, that glow thing is a nice bonus, like a Ruidusborn detector ...
Druidcraft strawberries ... cute! :3
Laudna's giving Sashimi crystal bladed hands ... wow, that is EXTRA creepy ...
Short rest, then ...
Oh, the box? Aha! Yeah ... can they unlock it?
Ashton gets a ratty new makeshift glove ...
Chetney Claus returns ...
Orym takes his shirt off? Oh boy ... O.O
Fearne tries to use a long distance Dispel Magic on the box ...
Treshi scry ball ... still some distance away, at least ...
Zhesh makes FCG his own little crystal mood stone indicator on his chest ... oooh, AND he gets a new and improved sawblade ... that's pretty cool ... scary good ... snd it's LETHAL, too ...
Dusk has arrived ... time to go ... off to the Overspoke ...
Meanwhile opening the box ... and it works! Nice ... unlock it, then ... check for traps! Chetney is SCARY proficient at lockpicking ... and it's open! Here we go ...
An odd device ... hexagonal? No, you are JOKING, surely not ... oh no, more like something from the Malleus Key, but much more high quality ...
Eyes of yhe Rune Keeper? Okay ...
Abjuration magic ... cool ... Nat20, okay ... it's PART of something serious ... oh, it's designed to BREAK A SEAL ... it's Aeoran tech! Holy shit!
And NOW we're taking a break ... O.O
There's a 1 in 6 chance that the crystal blades SHATTER with each hit? Crap ... but in Imogen's proximity their properties are boosted ... cool ...
Arcana check for FCG ... BIG success ... okay ... even so, still really no more actual information on the piece in the box ...
Apparently Sam just discovered that FCG has acquired a black negligee from somewhere, but has NO RECOLLECTION where ... O.O
So back out into the street ... Vanguard gear on again ...
Keeping an eye on the scry ball as they go ... yeah, probably best ...
Group deception check ... it's good, not GREAT ... hmmm ...
Spiral stairs ... okay then ... but there are guards ... so what to do, then?
Chetney Claus sees you when you're doing THAT?!!!
Oh, so they could just BLUFF THEIR WAY up? Cool ... they think Imogen's her mother? Or just that she's automatically expected? Hmmmm ...
So is this actually working, then?
Aha, so here's Earot ... another deception check? 25? Bloody hell, Laura ...
Looking for a PURPLE house? With darkvision? Hmmmm ...
Borrowing Earot's spyglass ... and intimidating hom with her telekinesis ...
A Reiloran copy of Tusk Love ... which lost something in translation, apparently ... XD
Aha! Purple! Okay then ... so we have a destination, then ...
Off to find the Volition ...
Liliana is now FAMOUS on Ruidus ... hmmmm ... this could be useful OR problematic, depending on circumstances ...
Orym is now pretending to be Imogen's bodyguard to maintain an Illusion ...
Is that a Videodrome reference there, Matthew?
Pass Without A Trace! Go!
Fuck, yeah ... Ashton's still exhausted, we'd clearly forgotten about that ...
An excavation site? Okay, then ...
So ... is this a test? This IS the place, isn't it?
A persuasion check ... go Orym! Yeah ...
Oh, sneaky mind reading from Imogen ... now persuasion? 24! Okay ...
Meanwhile Chetney's fallen asleep ... on his FEET ...
Okay, looks like they passed the test ... so they're "friends of the Volition" ... okay ... Watcher Volido? Cool ...
Talk to Rashinna of the Golden Hammer? And Gaz Tomo? Hmmmm ...
A secret passage! Yay!
Apparently Orym is VERY SMALL ... O.O
Going in a pair at a time, losing the Vanguard outfits as they go ... and now they're in ... while Matt accidentally punches the mike and gives us all a heart attack!
In a tunnel, then ... going down ...
Oh, here we go ... how DO THEY prove they're friends of the Volition? Oh, the bodies? Really? The Juggernaut's head? Wow ...
So Rashinna will decide ... hmmm ...
A very weird wooden door ... so what's THAT about, Matthew?
So this guy's a Shrike? But blind ... that's interesting ... I like this guy, whoever he is ...
The door is ALIVE? Whoa ... they're ROOTS? Fascinating ... Chetney is rightly intrigued ...
Okay, so they're now SURROUNDED ... yeah, that's about right ...
They have their own Juggernauts? Bloody hell ...
Ah yes, this must be Rashinna ... oh yes, she us VERY impressive indeed ... oh, and she speaks OPENLY!!! Wow ...
True, Bells Hells STILL haven't picked a leader ... but Orym's picked Imogen, which is right ...
Imogen must make it clear she is NOT loyal to her mother ...
A persuasion check? Oh boy ... 27? Holy fuck, Laura!
Oh, so she believes her? Or rather believes that SHE believes that, at least ... maybe this'll work, then ...
Some kind of fancy magic mirror? Oh, so it's dome kind of ENTRANCE? Fascinating ... Holy shit, it's like the Goblin King's Labyrinth in there ...
Oh, so THIS is the real Kreviris? That is BEAUTIFUL ...
Gods, I love it when Matt gets enthusiastically carried away with his descriptions ...
A massive crystal core at the center of it all ... fascinating ...
Oh, that thing is the Weavemind itself? Wooooo ... and THAT I'd where Matt chooses to end it? Bloody hell ... cue massive indignation, ESPECIALLY from Ashley ... much as I would expect ...

good gpd im so frustrated with stuff in terras rn. idont care anymore if they know who i am im jyst. so so frustrayed. its so hard to get stuff u want without spending money and im really lucky i have 3 terras. but oh god its so frustrating seeing people ask for. what even was it. asking for 14 myos. for 1 terra. it makes me so unvelievably angry!!
not tomention the way terra staff picked all the people who werent that active in chats. but just because they knew eachother well and were friends. it makes me lose hope for ever being a syaff and helping make this cs a little better :(
also how terra gas are always peopel with super detailled "pop" styles. like yeah youre picking smaller artists but.. yhey all have very similar styles and. its discouraging to someone with a chibi style who just really likes designing terras. it makes me wanna leave so bad.
and i. i cannot handle some of the members sometimes. some members will talk about how they dony have much money, like someone said they didnt have money for something. then immediately after bought a terra??? i mean i get that it can be addicting n stuff but. its so so frustrating oh god.
especially when people like. are talking about stuff and someone mentions something cpmpletely off topic. i could understanf if!!! maybe !! they asked nicely for a topic change and left it at tht but. ive seen people spam their own topics in the middle of another convo.
also i dont even wanna mention the trading scene. its insane. man i. ive been condidering leaving for sonlong mostly from members and specific staff. but. aughhhgg i love terras so much i just. wish i could make it better. i genuinely cry over it bc . i love terras so so much but its all going to shit . :C
im mostly just frustrated with dtaff constantly taking customs because if the staff customs channel and their new godly role. it sucks. it makes people feel like their artvisnt worth it, seeinh bids surpass thr hundreds while some camnot sell a fullbody for $5 just bc bias.
if staff see this, im sorry. i wish i didnt have yo go on a vent blog to say this. but i know saying it in the server would just get me silenced. please try to help with these issues seen here. and im genuinely so sorry, i really want to help, but this is the only way i can help now: giving criticism. i hope things change and i can enjoy terras again. i also hope staff are okay, i do not eant this to be mean or stressing in any way. :C [sorry for the typos mod i am very shaky rn and in a bus and carsick so im trying to fix them as mucj as i can. and ty for dealing witg all the drama.]
im sorry youre having such a bad time anon, it can be difficult once you realize all the deep cracks within the foundation of something you like
youre right in saying the trading scene is absolutely insane rn, people have decided that myos arent as powerful of a trading chip anymore but theyre still just as difficult to get, what the FUCK would someone even need 14 myos for
the staff has always been cliquey, if youre not in their little friend group you might as well be dirt, and theyre so biased toward pop artists, thats why kiwi rot was allowed to make a feral terra custom even while the hammer was coming down hard on them.
members are so rude and im tired of people pretending theyre not. at some point you gotta wonder how many times someone will breach social contract again and again regardless of every single time theyre politely told to wait their turn, just say you want to butt in and be done with it. ive never seen so many people absolutely unable to actually pay attention to the conversation at hand and it really seems like they just want to hear themselves talk
staff as a role is just a pretty little modifier to say “im elite, now drop $100s on my customs so you can immediately trade it off and say ‘looking for staff swaps ONLY if you offer me anything else u r getting blocked xoxox’”, none of them actually really use the new role to bring new viewpoints to the species or to make systems move faster, if they were then youd think we would actually have implemented more site functionality than one single fucking forage button and people wouldnt have to wait upwards of 2 weeks to get a myo design approved
terras biggest downfall is that every single person in the server is too sensitive for criticism and take it way too personally, that way everything gets silenced and nothing gets better.
personally anon, i suggest distancing yourself a bit. when i started moving away from the species and focusing on irl self improvement, i felt so much better (and started saving a lot of money)

i have only watched the first two episodes, but i have to write this down before i forget it
SPOILERS AHEAD
i'm so upset you people made it seem so much worse!! i'm talking about ATLA live action show, of course. all i saw about it is criticism, harsh, angry criticism. which is valid, to each their own, but it's not that bad!! it's actually quite good. for people who haven't seen the original it should be gold. their new fav fantasy series.
yeah, the plot is moving FAST. faster than it should and thus eliminates so many things. like, getting to see Aang's backstory so soon, whitout showing how happy he was before finding out he's the avatar and how the other kids pushed him away once the news got out, gyatso being told to stay away too being the final drop, causing him to leave and despise being the avatar. in the show he just fears the responsability. which is in tune with his character. it's valid. it's just far less complex and complicated.
Aang's still childish and likes to play and goof around, he just accepts his role faster. fear of hurting others, a very important characterization of him that appears in the original show as well, plays a huge role still, he just becomes responsible and stops running from who he is faster.
Katara and Sokka are really well written. Sokka's sexism isn't out and open, it's not obvious and it's watered down a lot, but it exists. harder to catch on, easy to brush away, but it's there. and Katara is motherly, the only thing i was upset about was her not mentioning her mother. it was made up for with the flashbacks, but still.
Zukko didn't mention his honor once!! whyyy??? i mean, i know it's a running joke in the fandom, but all humor aside, it plays an important part in his character. throughout the series he learns how to be an actual honorable person, he learns he's the only one who can give himself this value, he can't receive it from – or have it taken away by – Ozai. other than that, though, he's a really good Zukko. he has the entitled prince patience – or lack of it more likely. he has the anger, the need to succeed driving him over his limits. he's rude with those he sees beneath him. i have faith his growth will be well handled.
SUKI!!! other than the fact she has an immediate crush on Sokka, she's also good. her and Sokka still train, she still beats him and shows him how to fight better. he still tries to show off in her face and is ashamed to lose to a girl. he's ashamed to ask for her help. but he comes around real quick. it's two seasons worth of character development and relationship development crammed in one episode. but they have to do that to catch your attention. the average public has lost their patience to watch a slowly developing, complex character arc. and they don't want the show to be cancelled.
Uncle Iroh is on par with who he is in the original. nothing to comment here.
there are major chances, like Aang channeling Kyoshi and entering the spirit realm so early in his journey. but the channeling other avatars in their temples is an interesting addition in my opinion. i personally like it and am ready to see more of it.
Katara is learning a bit fast, but she still can't fight Zuko on her own, so they didn't, thankfully, make her a prodigy mary sue. it's fine by me. she still has to work to achieve her powers and it actually reminds me of how fast she learns when she has a teacher, so they did rush her, but the struggle is still there.
they leave so many things unadressed because they don't have time to write them in, but they do touch the important main events. so i'll take it.
the costumes are SPLENDID!!
all in all, i like it. it's nostalgic and i can see my childhood show come to life. nothing could replace it, but it's a beautiful addition.

Can you tell me again why you dislike like Lana? I remember seeing your original posts and agreeing. I like her but ugh sometimes I want to shake her
I talked about it here, but it’s a few different things.  I think in general she glamorizes a lot of things that need to be handled with more care when so many young people see her as a role model.  Lana presents herself/her character (which she insists is not a persona) as someone who loves sex and drugs and partying and abusive relationships and mental illness and suicidal ideation for the romance and aesthetic of it all.  A lot of the “romantic” songs she’s written are versions of “this man is bad/abusive/the worst and I will love him forever/die for him/am nothing without him/can’t imagine my life without him,”  and I don’t think that’s a good message for young people who look up to her to be getting about romantic relationships.  There are ways to discuss abusive relationships, low self-esteem, drug addiction, and mental health issues that aren’t inherently glamorizing those issues, but that’s not what Lana is doing and it’s not what she’s trying to do.
My other big issue with her is that she refuses to grow or learn. I talked about this at length when she was under scrutiny for a “shady” Instagram post she made, but whenever she’s (rightly) criticized, she insists that she’s a misunderstood victim because she’s a sexy sexy woman and isn’t willing to consider that she might actually be in the wrong.  And this pattern has been happening for ten years straight.  She keeps being given opportunities to grow and mature (opportunities that other artists, particularly WOC, do not get) and she keeps squandering those opportunities.  Her whole schtick was sort of understandable when she was 20, but she’s 38 now.  At a certain point, we all have to take responsibility for our actions and work on improving ourselves, and Lana isn’t exempt from that.
I also feel like she's kind of an opportunist.  Her “shady” Instagram post wasn’t even really about feminism or wanting people on the internet to be nice to her.  It seemed like it was a ploy to get people to pay attention to her so she could hawk her poetry book and new album.  Social issues are so hypothetical to her that, in that time of incredible social upheaval and change, she’s willing to co-opt that for her own benefit.
And that’s not to speak of her other “minor” controversies, like cultural appropriation (that she continues to engage in), her aestheticization of poverty, something she, as the daughter of a millionaire who funded her music, has never experienced, her tone deaf Twitter arguments, her rejection of feminism, her refusal to accept that a music critic might criticize her music, putting her fans at risk by doing a meet and greet during the pandemic where she didn’t social distance and wore a mesh, netted mask… in my opinion, there are a lot of reasons to dislike her and a lot of artists who are doing what she does but better.
And I feel like for the record, I should say that I don't think she's a bad musician. A lot of her songs are really well crafted and incredibly evocative. But I struggle to get on board with the way she presents herself publicly, and I think it's done a lot of damage to young people who relate to her and aspire to be like her.

Mmm I feel like sage would be a pretty decent cook. Definitely not a professional tho. He can handle chopping and cleaning pretty well and make himself and/or tulsi some really delicious small meals but not something for a full on feast. He probably follows his impulses waayyy too much so a lot of the times he fucks up by adding some random ingredients just to see how it would taste together. Oh and adding beer to random shit, most likely learnt that one from balsam. He definitely starts eating small bits of whatever he's cooking along the way to if it's taking too long. ALSO SAGE LEARNING HOW TO MAKE YOURS AND TULSIS FAVOURITE FOOD AND BRINGING YOU SOME CAUSE THERE OH SO COINCIDENTALLY HAPPENED TO BE LEFTOVERS BOY OH BOY WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT BETTER EAT UP Or he'll cry. You can be his taste tester!!!!!!!!!! UGH MY HEART-
LUCAN BAKES. THATS IT. THIS MOUNTAIN OF A MAN LIKES DECORATING CUPCAKES.
-egg anon (dumb bitch anon)
Sage is a great cook and I'll kill on that hill (/lh) but yes after much contemplation I can see your point, and now I have many thoughts about the griefers and cooking m.list
Now, comparing Sage and Balsam depends on which period of their lives we're talking about. As kids/teenagers Sage was probably the better cook; they had the bare minimum to work with and Sage knew how to make it work. He also had Tulsi (and probably Balsam) to take care of, and for her he's willing to go above and beyond. He might like his meat half-raw it could almost start breathing again, but Tulsi doesn't so he had to adjust to her tastes.
In fact his impulsiveness was probably his strongest point. Recipes are too boring for him to follow, but it was his spontaneity and willingness to try anything once that made him such a good, creative, and adaptable cook. He figured out what worked and what didn't through trial and error.
Further into adulthood, when Balsam got his own place, he was able to stock up the shelves with herbs and spices, and could peacefully experiment with cooking thus honing his skills. Probably better at following recipes than Sage, because he truly was lost at first when it came to cooking and needed all the help he could get.
I do agree he probably threw in a little beer or wine when he wanted to feel ✨spicy✨
So, ultimately, in the wild Sage is the better cook, but in the kitchen Balsam does better. The lack of many ingredients made it easier for Sage to experiment, whereas in a kitchen setting he might be overwhelmed with just how much stuff there is to work with. What do half of these tools even do?
That's where you can play the role of Sage's taste tester, maybe even cooking assistant. You guys are stuck in Fathom until this whole Griefers and corruption thing is resolved, and he's sick of Felix and Anisa's attempts at cooking. (I wouldn't immediately discredit Felix's potential but his tastes might be too specific for Sage.) So he starts experimenting in the kitchen, and your help would be most appreciated.
Starts small with the things he's already used to: frying eggs, meat and fish, and maybe the occasional vegetable, then he starts to branch out with all the different ways you can cook these things. Yes, you have to stop him several times from taking one too many bites of the food. He'll probably smear some of it on your face just for an excuse to kiss it off, or it can evolve into a food fight. You're surprised when he's the one to bring the fight to a stop, then he insists that food must not be wasted and that's when you understand.
Sage will scoff about how he doesn't care how the food comes out, "y'all can either eat it or find your own thing," but he does care, especially about your (and Tulsi's) opinions. His eyes are fixed to your face after he spoon-feeds you something, but he quickly averts his gaze when you catch him in the act. Please put his heart at ease and tell him it's great, or show him what might need fixing. Sage is surprisingly accepting of criticism when it comes to food.
Unless that criticism is coming from Felix, then Sage will tease him about how spoiled the bourgeoisie must be. Little does Felix know that Sage does keep all his little complaints in mind, not that he'd ever admit to it.
If anyone is more likely to flub a recipe it's probably Lucan. This man doesn't know his spices and what's even worse is it doesn't matter to him because he'll eat anything. Like Sage, he likes his beef raw and never had any reason to adjust to something different.
You'd probably have to introduce him to baking yourself. Then you'll have to keep stopping him from trying to shovel all the whipped cream into his mouth. This grown man can't resist a sugar high.
His favorite part is when the batter is in the oven and he can watch it rise, just... this mountain of a guy sitting cross-legged before the oven watching it like he's in a trance.
He keeps Elowen in mind when drawing cute kitty faces on cupcakes, because he knows his cool and stoic sister can't resist a cute kitty face. Elowen can't help it, though; her little brother will always be a baby to her and anything sweet that he does for her might make her tear up just a little.

What’s your LEAST favorite song? Why?
"Growltiger's Last Stand"--we all know why. Fuck you, T.S. Eliot, and fuck you, ALW, for not having the good sense to leave it out.
Share one (1) hot take/opinion about the show/fandom/etc.
No more London-style replica designs--society has progressed beyond the need for London-style replica designs. More Broadway replicas or, better yet, Hamburg replicas, you absolute cowards.
Do you think Cats has a theme/message? If so, what is it?
I do think it has one, albeit not one that I think its creators were aiming for. The original poems have a distinct element of British classism to them, i.e. "these cats' jobs/roles in the household constitute their entire lives, and there is nothing else notable about them" (yes, that is partially me projecting based on what I know about T.S. Eliot as a person, but I'm not wrong, am I?), which you still do get some of in the musical. But by nature of almost all of the cats being onstage the entire show, we do get to see that these cats have more to their lives and relationships than just their human-designated jobs. And for all the "Hal, it's about cats" of it, there is quite a lot in the show about the importance of community and acceptance and cherishing our lives and loved ones while we still have them and how growing old is something that happens to all of us with the only difference being how we handle it and how others treat us. I wouldn't call it a message so much as a theme, but I'd say if there is a central one, it's (to paraphrase a certain poem) "sing, dance, and be merry for tomorrow we die."
What was Cats 2019’s biggest mistake, in your opinion? (OTHER than 'bad cgi’) If you don’t think it made any notable mistakes, what’s your favorite thing about it?
I think so many of its flaws can be laid at the feet of Tom Hooper as the director. The dude clearly does not know how to handle a show like Cats (he barely knew how to handle Les Miserables, and that's me being generous), and I'm still baffled that he wanted to inject more realism into it, like... my guy, it's about singing and dancing cats. Realism has left the building. Not only that, but the movie feels like it has a certain amount of contempt for its source material, like it's having a laugh alongside everyone who thinks Cats is weird and bad, which would have made for a mean-spirited and bizarre-in-a-bad-way watch even with a more competent director. I don't hate the Cats movie--I'm not overly fond of it, given all those reasons, but I think all the hyperbolic hate for it got really tiring really fast. If anything, I feel protective of it--if you're gonna criticize the movie, criticize it on its own merits, and don't drag Cats as a whole down with it.

Oho, and this one’s from that one idea - Phoenix as a background actor, investigating Zoraxis involvement in a movie production, and Juniper - not Zoraxis affiliated - becoming a little too curious about them. Written before I reconsidered and decided the Agent should be a stagehand instead?

Ok i regularly see the “Trap is better for Hawkeye’s mental health” argument and I’m consistently baffled how anyone has come to that conclusion on source material alone. Hawkeye’s mental health - or his grasp on it - is simply just… better in seasons 1-3. He has some obvious episodes but in truth Trapper (and Henry) went very much for a ‘plug the leak’ technique rather than any serious help? Hawkeye actually saying “you let me lean on you”, which frankly I take to mean more generally anyway, isn’t really enough for me to judge. I’d want to see this in action, which we barely do. As far as I can see people just say “Trapper would do better” based on vibes and personal preference alone.. which is fine but… i see this presented as more fact than headcanon.
So when I talk about this I pretty regularly say I have no idea how well Trapper would handle later seasons Hawkeye when he starts doing much worse. It’s one of the big questions I have that will never be answered by canon. When I say Trapper is better at handling Hawkeye’s mental health I mean he’s better at handling what he got. It’s not an equal comparison.
It is mostly based on vibes and headcanons but “you let me lean on you” actually doesn’t come into the equation! Trapper just always seems like he’s paying attention. I don’t put Henry and Trapper on the same level because I don’t think Henry paid as much attention. But Trapper seems really aware of what’s going on with Hawkeye. At the end of Dr. Pierce and Mr. Hyde, Henry asks “McIntyre, what makes him do these things?” which in my headcanon implies this isn’t the first incident like this. Trapper is just doing his best to manage it. Sedating him was also a very solution-oriented move. Whatever the underlying issue it was definitely medically necessary at that point. Adam’s Rib also feels a lot of the time like Trapper is sort of trying to manage Hawkeye.
It is somewhat a plug and leak approach, but I think at that point that was appropriate. Their options for serious help are severely limited. At that point the army might not even think psychiatric treatment was warranted, and if they did that’s a whole can of worms. The psychiatrists we see before Sidney are not trustworthy or people Hawkeye would be safe with. Sidney doesn’t start taking on that role until his third appearance, in season 3. He would have benefited from more help in seasons 1-3 but what he needed wasn’t available in the army in the 1950s. Trapper knew that and was just doing the best he could.
Even later on the lack of appropriate care is an issue. There’s a reason they don’t get Hawkeye any official mental healthcare until they literally have no other choice. I think there are probably times they needed to do more but I’m way more critical of Potter on this front than BJ. Potter is repeatedly shown to be aware of Hawkeye’s fragile mental health. He’s almost more of a parallel to Trapper that way than BJ is.
I think BJ handles The Late Captain Pierce as well as he could and honestly Trapper probably would have done the same thing. But I do think BJ is less aware than Trapper, which again is based on vibes. It’s also based on when we meet them. When we meet Hawkeye and Trapper they’ve known each other for a while, so naturally Trapper is already aware. When we meet BJ, he meets Hawkeye. Part of the story for BJ is him realizing just how bad his new friend’s mental health is which is fascinating and sad. I BJ has a bit of a learning curve with it. In Hawk’s Nightmare I honestly think he’s trying to help but he comes across as a little dismissive like he’s minimizing the problem because he genuinely doesn’t understand how bad it is. By Bless You, Hawkeye he’s doing pretty well, or at least as well as everyone else. I think it’s easy to go to far with “BJ isn’t good at handling Hawkeye’s mental health” because a big part of it is just that there isn’t much he can do.
But then there’s GFA and that complicates things. Everyone has a general level of awkwardness and not knowing what to do, but BJ has that visit at the hospital and I genuinely do not understand his behavior there. That probably affects my read of BJ and how he handles Hawkeye in general.
Basically I think Trapper is more aware of what’s going on with Hawkeye and this is based on vibes and some throwaway lines. I don’t think I’ve seen people treating that like it’s canon but it does feel like a bit more than a random headcanon to me, but with the caveat always that Trapper got a very different era of Hawkeye to deal with. I think Trapper would have handled Hawkeye getting worse better than BJ did just because he already had some experience with him but “handling it better” is functionally pretty marginal because again there isn’t much anyone can do, and this is all speculation.
